This a dark kingdom AU I made with my friend!
For those wondering Varian is saying something along the lines of: "Did you know? So many plants grow in Corona, they can be vegetarian!" In Siberian (Translation courtesy of google translate :D)
Basically the AU is that for whatever reason the Dark kingdom didn't fall and is a hidden kingdom no one knows about. The Brotherhoods job is to go out to the rest of the world just to see what's up. Once Fredrick uses it the brotherhoods main job is just to make sure the Moonstone doesn't throw a hissy fit and kill everyone.
Eugene is raised like a prince and Varian as a Brotherhood member. Eugene is very rambunctious and careless. Varian wants to start doing research on the annual "horizon lights" and is sure have something to do with the Sunflower but Edmund keeps refusing.
Then on the winter stolcice celebration Eugene manages to ruin it. In order to teach him some humility Edmund sends him on Varians research quest to Corona. Cue movie events.
All these sketches are pretty old except the rhino one. Clothing was mainly inspired by east Siberian clothing in the last one. The first few I completely forgot the reference o-o,

I know the series came out WAY WAY after the wedding short did, therefore the characters wouldn't have existed back then...
But canonically the wedding happened after the series ended
So what do you think are the TTS gang's (Varian, Cass, Lance, etc) excuses for not showing up to the royal wedding? 🤣
Cassandra literally leaves the kingdom at the end of the series. I know a lot of people headcanon that of course she comes back for the wedding, but I'm not one of them. I think she and Rapunzel realize that, while they're still friends, they're also much better people apart than together.
Varian, as the Royal Engineer, is making sure that the confetti canon he rigged to go off is absolutely perfect. Disasters are not permitted today, of all days.
Lance, as well as Kiera and Catalina, are in charge of the reception, and since that happens right after the ceremony, they, too, are doing last-minute preparations. All those barrels of wine? The released doves and lanterns? The outdoor dining? That's all Lance's idea, and of course he's going to have his daughters help him.

varian is the type of guy to have a resistance to some poisons because of the amount of chemicals he accidentally (read: purposefully) ingests, so someone tries to poison him with a small amount of poison (perhaps a bit just enough to kill but be untraceable) and then later they see him and theyre like "what the fuck?? but i gave you that drink???" and varians just like "oh yeah! it was nice :) maybe a little tangy but you did good 👍"

I have a lot of feelings about the rise of he would not fucking say that attitudes in fandom spaces and the paralysing effect it can have on creators. As a writer i think it’s important to just write what feels true to you and not what you think others will “approve” of. Like even as a reader i have enjoyed a variety of different characterisations that all work because the writer makes them work for a particular story. And a fic that’s written out of character to some will be in character to others. Writing fic is not your job you’re not being paid it’s your hobby please. Make them as close to canon as possible. Make them completely different. Who cares! Have fun! Have so much fun! There is an audience for every kind of fic and every kind of character interpretation i promise

can we just talk about how similar those two moments are for a second cuz i just.
how both times, neither of rapunzel's betrayers have done anything unforgivable yet and would likely get a pardon, and how both times, they almost turn back, knowing that if they go through with their betrayal, there is no going back to the way things were.
how with varian, rapunzel's trying to mend broken trust, and with cass, raps is trying to get her to listen.
but then she said the wrong word, and then cass and varian just snap.
how varian stole the sun, and cassandra stole the moon.
how right before their betrayals, both cassandra and varian are acting weirdly nice, but the weirdest part is how sometimes, they both seem to mean it.

Fic idea
Okay so, hear me out. What if there was an episode in season one (preferably after great expotations but before varian’s betrayal) with team awesome bonding.
Like what if Eugene starts to get weird creepy messages all signed as “your biggest fan” so Eugene remembering what varian said in the first time they met, decides to go ask varian if it was him but when he gets there Varian has no idea what he’s talking about. THEN they decide to try and figure out who this mysterious “biggest fan” is. The adventure lets varian show that he is capeable and reflect that his obsession with Flynn rider was a little bit creepy, and it lets Eugene use his sleuthing skills to out the note writer, then they bond over the whole experience
That’s all I’ve got so far but I think it would be a cool idea. I might write a fic but if this inspires you feel free to do what you want with it just please @ me cause I’d love to see it :D
