starting off by saying @cagey-gaymer here it is .

OKAY so . idk if I've made an actual post abt this so I'm making one . if I've made one before congrats , you all get TWO aro Daryl rants <3

yes folks , you read that right ! an aro Daryl rant !! now . I know I've vaguely mentioned my arospec Daryl hc a few times , but today I'm going to actually talk abt it :3

SO to get into the specifics, i think Daryl is romance positive greyromantic, I think he doesn't feel it super often but hes not at all against the idea of being with someone who he doesnt "actually love" . I don't think he realizes this for . a while . like . *a while* . if at all . i think his marriage with Carol is an *excellent* example of this . I think yeah Daryl cares about her a lot , whenever he talks about her he talks about her as his best friend, which is a great relationship to have with your spouse , but I don't think Daryl realizes that there's supposed to be more . also the fact that they got together so early in their lives and Daryl never like . wanted anything more than that . he was totally fine and ok just staying in a relationship with his highschool sweetheart and never wanted to experience really dating people or any of that stuff , bcs he 👏 is 👏 arospec 👏

he doesn't realize that his strong platonic feelings aren't the same as romantic feelings . he doesn't have a lot of other adults that he's close with , he doesn't have a lot of *friends* for him to realize that *that's* what Carol is to him . he knows what love is "supposed" to look like and as far as he's aware he's checking all the boxes , he is going to get a good grade in Husbanding , something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve. he's trying so hard to fit the mold of what he thinks men are supposed to be and doesn't try to really question if that's really what he wants .

I think maybe him and Henry talk about this at some point , that being the start of Daryls identity crisis . maybe he's talking about how he feels about Carol to Henry and Henry's like hmm . Daryl do you know what the term aromantic means ? and they have a loooong discussion about it . anyways my brain is running with this now but that's not what I'm going to chase rn .

the point is . that Daryl didn't realize there were any issues in him and Carol's relationship bcs from the outside , they look fine . they look like a normal couple in a normal family , and if they're *normal* then it must mean they're doing it right . his relationship with his wife *appears* as Daryl believes romantic relationships should , so obviously there aren't any pressing issues . why could Carol possibly be upset ? he was doing it all right ? and he doesn't realize that he's just . not the same as she is . he loves her , she's his best friend , and to him that's a romantic relationship right ? so he never tried to look for anything else and never looked for the *problems* that existed in their relationship bcs hey he still loves her as his best friend , so we're still good , right ?

anyways . aro Daryl . I feel like I kinda talked in circles here a bit , but oh well . just . consider for me . aro Daryl . he is so important to me .

shawn: pansexual; the whole romance thing is extremely new to him bc it’s not smth he’s considered or given a thought to before. as long as they appreciate his totally healthy fear of the undead (bonus points if they feel the same way), he’s down, nothing else matters!

topher: he's trickier bc while I can see him as being the typical straight guy, he also screams 'gay' to me too. maybe bisexual?? yeah, that makes more sense! bisexual and he's in-tune with his sexuality so he doesn't mention it every so often, he just sorta swims along, casually mentioning stuff like 'oh he's cute too. and so is she' and let ppl figure it out themselves. he didn't have much of a sexuality crisis/revelation; the thought just passed by, and he went "huh, makes sense" and moved on with the knowledge lmao

Ok so I’ve considered myself greyromantic for a while now, because I’ve only felt romantic attraction a few times for a very short amount of time each. None of those were recent. I do feel like there’s a kind of wall over girls that isn’t over boys that means I can feel the potential of attraction towards boys. It’s weird.

So I’m friends with this boy who I thought was cute in fifth grade but never had a crush on, and now one of our other friends said we should go out together, and it’s like. Idk even know what I feel about that. I don’t get butterflies around him. I don’t think about him being good looking. I don’t fantasize about spending time with him. He actively frustrates me sometimes, but there is that potential of attraction that i can feel. It’s weird. I don’t want to like him like that. I don’t want to have a boyfriend. I do *not* want to have him anywhere near my bed, and I don’t even want to hug him. Why is romantic attraction so complicated? Is it this complicated for everyone? What the fuck.

dr who (of any regeneration but i stared believing with the 10th) as fully asexual, sex neutral, not quite replused but is like whats the hype? Humans are weird. I also comsider him somewhere in the demiromantic, greyromantic sides of things. I wasnt mad when he was put in romantic relationships, but i dont think hes the type to often seek them out. (Paired with abandonment issues i dont think he ever needs a romantic parter (like do allos think they need a romantic partner??? Idk))

Sherlock (from bbc sherlock) idk if this is self explanatory or not i guess not since ive seen a lot of johnlock stuff in my time lol. But like he is confused by every concepr of sex and romance. Like he used someones crushe on him as a manipulation tactic. Doesnt often see how what he does hurts those with crushes on him. Out of all 63 canon characters that we actually get to know a bit about, I headcanon 55 of them are LGBTQIA+. Why? One, why not, two, they told me themselves, and three... this is legitimately a franchise about theatre kids, of course majority are gonna be fruity.

- came out to her bio family as a teenager which went horribly

- has coached several others in the troupe through identity crises

-He/him, is trying to experiment with they/them pronouns aswell

-Bisexual with a lean towards women, thought he was straight then realized he also liked men and other genders aswell

-DemiAce (Demiromantic Asexual) she didn't have a lot of friends growing up, which in turn also means she never really crushed on anyone aswell.

-thought they were Aromantic for a while until she looked it up on google and went "OHHH"

-Demigirl, and just like her brother, they will gladly kick and/or punch a homophobe/transphobe in the face.

Cole

-He/him/all, he prefers he/him but can go with any pronouns really

-Gay. I think a lot of us agree on that one

-Didn't have any crushes on girls but somehow didn't connect the dots until he was like 15-16

-Alot of internalised homophobia at first because he was scared his dad was going to be disappointed in him, he wasn't but Cole was still scared

-Idk but he's definitely not cis, maybe agender or non-binary?

Jay

-He/him

-pansexual, he does not give two shits

-growing up, he had a LOT of crushes like i mean a LOT, on boys, girls, androgynous people, just.. everyone really

-When they met their father, he asked if it was normal for him to feel attraction at all

-ofc It's dad said yes, then they had an hour long conversation about attraction, the LGBTQ+ community, etc.

-Agender. It was built as a man, but since learning about LGBT stuff, he's found an identity he was comfortable with.

-also they made like.. little metal plates resembling a female and male chest just incase dysphoria hits

Pixal

-Goes by all pronouns

-Greyromantic Asexual, never thought he could ever experience attraction then Zane came along and he was like "uh oh i think i'm inlove"

-wasn't sure what it was at first, human emotions were confusing for her at the time.

-They eventually learned over time and she's proud of who she is.

-They're also Agender, not for the same reason Zane was, though. She was actually supposed to be an androgynous android, but then decided it would rather have a more feminine body, voice, face, etc.

-His father, Cyrus Borg, just kinda went "Okay whatever you want sweetie :)"

-if dysphoria ever hits, she just uses the different breastplates her father made.

Lloyd

-He/It, he just likes it

-demiromantic asexual, thought he was straight his whole life then he found out about the Aromantic and Asexual spectrum

-it told its mother and she was like "that's great honey, do you wanna drink some tea now?"

-was genuinely surprised she didn't have a reaction at all even though he hyped himself up the night prior its coming out, and also practiced in the mirror in which the others overheard and now he denies it ever happening

-he found out like.. way after his dad kinda yknow.. 💀.. so obviously he literally couldnt tell him

-Transmasc. Bc i'm transmasc and I say so.

-he has indeed beat up a transphobe/homophobe before. Multiple times, actually.

something that is so so fun to me is that i hc both alc and izzy as greyromantic and i think it's actually pretty easy to read in canon. siblings that have a complex relationship with romantic attraction together win together ig

yeah for sure those can both be supported by canon. it's in the way alec seems pretty uncaring about relationships and dating prior to meeting magnus, and is totally perplexed why jace would be turning their lives upside down because of his attraction to clary. (though alec turns his own life upside down later on because of magnus hahaha). up to that point alec thought he had feelings for jace, which makes more sense if he had never had actual romantic feelings for someone before magnus - he had nothing to compare his feelings for jace to, so he was like 'strong platonic feelings must equal romantic feelings'. which feeds back into his annoyance about clary and confusion over jace's behavior, he's like 'sure i would do irrational things for jace because we've cared about eachother for years but how on earth does he have those feelings about this random girl.' then he meets magnus and he's like 'ah i understand. now it's my turn to go insane.' and he suddenly changes course completely from just staying closeted and achieving his career goals versus pursuing what he wants from a relationship. before it wasn't worth the risk. before, when it was just sex (maybe) that he was interested in, he could have probably managed that (secretly) while married to lydia and being hoti. not sure if it's in alec's character to do that, but it would have been possible. dating in secret is a lot harder.

alec before magnus versus alec suddenly faced with the violent unquenchable desire to give magnus a hug:

and izzy doesn't seem to hold her relationships particularly close in a romantic sense. like her relationship with meliorn is mostly physical, sure they like eachother well enough but they're not dating. i think raphael might be the first one (in the show) she had some romantic feelings for? esp. since she still wanted to be with him after sex was off the table - if she had no romantic feelings she'd probably have been like 'let's be friends.' (though their relationship was also complicated by addiction). (one could probably read some romantic attraction for clary as well? though the show doesn't go there). i'm trying to decide if i think she was attracted to simon initially - maybe, since she seemed pretty fascinated by him? i'm not sure. i think you could probably read izzy as demiromantic too - it seems to be physical for her first, and romantic interest comes later. idk. i don't have quite as good a read on her as alec as i haven't spent 3 years and 500 thousand words of fanfiction thinking about it 😂 alas

Gender Headcanon: I go back and forth between cis guy & a sprinkling of genderqueerism (I think dan and elise both call him babygirl <3 make of that what you will)

Okay so like I don’t want to kiss them, or have sex, but I want to have shared smiles and hold there hand and maybe some snuggling. I had real quick feelings with two other Afab friends, a few male celebrities, but I think it was more in the charecters they played and I want to be famous sorta thing

But idk. I don’t want them to fall I love with me (they are queer allo) casue I don’t want to ruin the friend ship we have

But maybe I wanna be closer to them in general cause he is the only one my feelings have stayed for. Ok, so what I'm picking up from this is that you have feelings for one of your friends but you don't know whether it's romantic attraction and you don't want to ruin your friendship with them.

I must confess that I'm not entirely sure I can help you here, but I can definitely offer you some pointers that might guide you a bit.

The first thing I would say is that if there's only ever been one person you've felt more than fleeting romantic attraction for, that could suggest you are greyromantic.

I would also suggest looking more deeply into your attraction to this person - the fact that you don't want to kiss them suggests it might not be romantic attraction (although there is debate about whether kissing is a romantic or sexual activity). You could check out some types of tertiary attraction like alterous, queerplatonic, or sensual. From your description of your attraction it sounds like these might be possibilities, but they are just that - possibilities. you know your attraction better than I do.

Two last unrelated things I would add are 1) this probably isn't very helpful but honestly, fuck the status quo!! do what makes you happy and 2) i can't help but notice the way you focus on the agabs of your friends/crushes, and especially as you may be realising you're enby and moving into trans spaces yourself i'd like to mention that the trans community generally doesn't focus on what gender people were assigned at birth, because it isn't really relevant - the gender they are is more important than the gender doctors thought they were :) /nm
