been thinking about the liyue gang and how id draw their physical builds so here are some thoughts i had for xy cy and gm in particular
- xingqiu, unsurprisingly, would be quite lanky. i like to think he has broad-ish shoulders, like a thin athlete's build? hes a long boy to me haha, long face, neck, limbs, fingers etc, so naturally hes stands (comparatively) tall at 5'6" or 5'7"
i like to think hes most physically attractive one and has that handsome princely and boyish charm to him because it adds a lot to his fuckass duality LOL
- chongyun is a lot like xiao imo! short stature but with muscular arms. he seems nimble and flexible because of his normal attack animations (which bears a lot of similarities to xiao's actually! this + the fact that chongyun's normal attacks create gusts of wind further reinforces my hc that xiao trains him). sometimes i watch high energy choreography vids on youtube and some dancers look incredibly light on their feet, almost like their body is inherently bouncy? and i imagine chongyun to have that agility to him. chongyun has a delicate face and aura and i let that bleed into my hcs for his fighting style and physical capabilities hahaha. hes kind of like a cat who's deceptively strong. as for height.. just a few inches taller than xiao, so perceptibly short at 5'4"
- ga ming my new beloved. pretty much similar to chongyun but more muscular and stronger just because he wields his claymore with ease. theres a noticeable weight different between cy and his claymore the way he lugs it up after he swings (or even other claymore users like razor who, on his last hit, bounces from impact). meanwhile ga ming literally slams his to the ground LOL. i love his movements though hes very swift and expressive and radiant.. if cy has delicate movements then ga ming's is fierce and (charmingly!) assertive
ga ming is wonderfully charismatic though, i know hes not well known in liyue harbor yet, but he seems like the type to gain a reputation from his friendliness. how could no one adore him hahaha. 5'5" for height! just between xy and xq

How to Tell If That Post of Advice Is AI Bullshit
Right, I wasn't going to write more on this, but every time I block an obvious AI-driven blog, five more clutter up the tags. So this is my current (April 2024) advice on how to spot AI posts passing themselves off as useful writing advice.
No Personality - Look up a long-running writing blog, you'll notice most people try to make their posts engaging and coming from a personal perspective. We do this because we're writers and, well, we want to convey a sense of ourselves to our readers. A lot of AI posts are straight-forward - no sense of an actual person writing them, no variation in tone or text.
No Examples - No attempts to show how pieces of advice would work in a story, or cite a work where you could see it in action. An AI post might tell you to describe a person by highlighting two or three features, and that's great, but it's hard to figure out how that works without an example.
Short, Unhelpful Definitions - A lot of what I've seen amount to two or three-sentence listicles. 'When you want to write foreshadowing, include a hint of what you want foreshadowed in an earlier chapter.' Cool beans, could've figured that out myself.
SEO/AI Prompt Language Included - I've seen way too many posts start with "this post is about..." or "now we will discuss..." or "in this post we will..." in every single blog. This language is meant to catch a search engine or is ChatGPT reframing the prompt question. It's not a natural way of writing a post for the average tumblr user.
Oddly Clinical Language - Right, I'm calling out that post that tried to give advice on writing gay characters that called us "homosexuals" the entire time. That's a generative machine trying to stay within certain parameters, not an actual person who knows that's not a word you'd use unless you were trying to be insulting or dunking on your own gay ass in the funniest way possible.
Too Perfect - Most generative AI does not make mistakes (this is how many a student gets caught trying to use it to cheat). You can find ways to make it sound more natural and have it make mistakes, but that takes time and effort, and neither of those are really a factor in these posts. They also tend to have really polished graphics and use the same format every time.
Maximized Tags (That Are Pointless) - Anyone who uses more than 10 one-word tags is a cop. Okay, fine, I'm joking, but there's a minimal amount of tags that are actually useful when promoting a post. More tags are not going to get a post noticed by the algorithm, there is no algorithm. Not everyone has to use their tags to make snarky comments, but if your tags look like a spambot, I'm gonna assume you're a spambot.
No Reblogs From The Rest of Writblr - I'm always finding new Writblr folks who have been around for awhile, but every real person I've seen reblogs posts from other people. We've all got other stuff to do, I'm writing this blog to help others and so are they, the whole point of tumblr is to pass along something you think is great.
While you'll probably see some variation in the future - as people get wise to obviously generated text, they'll try to make it look less generated - but overall, there's still going to be tells to when something is fake.
I don't have any real advice for what to do about this (other than block those blogs, which is what I do). Like most AI bullshit, I suspect most of these blogs are just another grift, attempting to build large follower counts to leverage or sell something to in the future. They may progress past these tattletale features, but I'm still going to block them when I see them. I don't see any value in writing advice compiled from the work of better writers who put the effort in when I can just go find those writers myself.

Bokuto’s Subtle Confession

Bokuto had always been known for his enthusiastic and boisterous personality on the volleyball court. He was the ace of the Fukurodani Academy team and a force to be reckoned with. However, when it came to matters of the heart, Bokuto found himself at a loss. There was someone who had captured his attention, someone who made his heart race every time they crossed paths. That someone was you, a fellow male student at Fukurodani Academy.
As the days turned into weeks, Bokuto couldn’t shake the feeling that he wanted to ask you out. He admired your determination, your dedication to your studies, and your kindness. But he didn’t know how to approach you. He didn’t want to risk his friendship with you, especially since he wasn’t sure if you felt the same way.
One evening, as he was sitting in his room, Bokuto decided to take a different approach. He would write a love letter. He believed that expressing his feelings through written words would allow him to be more composed and thoughtful. He wanted to be subtle, to let you know that someone at Fukurodani admired you, but he didn't want to reveal his identity just yet. Bokuto's room was filled with volleyball posters, trophies, and jerseys, but amidst all the sports paraphernalia, he found a blank piece of paper and a pen. He began to write, pouring his heart into the words. As he wrote, his emotions fluctuated wildly, just like they did on the volleyball court. His excitement and nervousness seeped into the letter, making it a rollercoaster of emotions.
"Dear m/n,
I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to let you know how much I admire your dedication and kindness. Your determination and the way you carry yourself have always caught my attention. I can't help but feel my heart race when I see you, and I wanted to express my feelings, even if it's from afar.
Your presence brightens up my day, and it's something I look forward to every day at school. I've seen you studying diligently and supporting your friends, and I can't help but be inspired by your actions.
Sometimes, I wish I could gather the courage to approach you, but I'm afraid of making things awkward between us. I value our friendship too much to jeopardize it.
I hope you continue to be the incredible person you are, and I'll be cheering for you, no matter what you do.

Bokuto read and reread the letter several times, wondering if it conveyed his feelings adequately. He tried to make it subtle, but his emotional swings were evident in the words he had written. He felt a mix of anxiety and excitement, wondering how you would react when you received the letter.
The next day at school, Bokuto was a bundle of nerves. He had placed the letter in your locker early in the morning, before anyone else arrived. As the day progressed, he couldn't help but watch you from a distance, trying to gauge your reaction. You went about your day as usual, but something about your expression seemed different. Bokuto couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he had a feeling that you had read the letter. Perhaps it was a subtle change in your demeanor, a slight blush on your cheeks, or a glint of recognition in your eyes.
After school, you approached Bokuto with a warm smile. "Hey, did you read this letter? It's pretty sweet," you said, showing him the same letter he had written. Bokuto's heart raced. "Oh, that letter? Yeah, I saw it. I thought it was really nice," he replied, trying to act nonchalant.
You chuckled, seeing through his façade. "You know, I have a feeling I know who wrote it. Your emotions are pretty hard to miss, Bokuto." Bokuto scratched the back of his head, his mood swinging from embarrassment to relief. "Well, yeah, it's not a secret anymore, is it?"
With a smile, you took his hand. "I appreciate your honesty. I was hoping you'd say something. Let's go get some ice cream and talk more." Bokuto's heart soared as he followed you, realizing that sometimes, even if you're not as subtle as you'd like to be, expressing your true feelings is worth the risk.

Thank you DRDT crew!
Even though I’ve only been a fan for a short time compared to others, the amount of love I have for this series is hard to put into words. It has slowly grown to be my favorite DR-related media of all time, for a multitude of reasons. Everything about it is remarkably impressive, and I just wanted to say thank you for bringing us such an amazing experience.
I got into DRDT through Weeby Newz’ streams. I had just finished binge watching her SDRA2 streams, but this “Danganronpa Despair Time” one looked interesting. Especially because I kept seeing a video by Ocean Unknown popping up in my recommended, which said something about “David’s reveal”. So I decided to watch those vods too.
Fast-forward a binge watch, and… I was in love. It didn’t even register how attached I’d gotten to every single character, and how intrigued I was to see how everything would play out.
I absolutely wouldn’t have started a Tumblr blog without DRDT. But now I have, and it’s been one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in fandom. So, from the bottom of my heart:

•Thank you for Unnamed Classmate! Because they’re really nice and I can’t wait to see where they go.
And of course…
•Thank you, so much, for Min! She may very well be my favorite character from anything ever. Everything about how she’s written is phenomenal, her personality and struggles are so well developed, I could gush about her for hours! She means so much to me, I can’t properly describe how in love I am with her.
Thank you for the laughs! From the arm wrestling scene, Charles getting obliterated by MonoCredits, “milk tastes good”, Teruko tripping over Nico… Not to mention the greatest joke ever conceived: the bathroom investigation. I laughed for a solid minute or two when I first watched it, just replaying the funniest thing ever on loop.
The Q&As were also really funny, and I never really had an issue with the way the were written. I fully understand and support if you decide not to do them ever again, but they were fun while they lasted. From Nico’s favorite ice cream flavor being “the flavor”, to us forgetting people can have friends aside from Mai I mean who, all the way to that time you directed us to inform ourselves on what a pant pocket is.
Thank you for the tears! Because I still can’t watch Min’s final hug without my chest hurting, a lot. Even some of the frames from the Sleepy MV, that beautiful piece of art, get me to tear up just looking at them.
Thank you for the mysteries! From the murders which are really fun to theorize about, to everything related to Mai Akasaki and the multiple source code secrets. And don’t even get me started on the LGI MV, that insanity (affectionate) has been eating at my brain ever since it released. Everything about it is fantastic, even the things we still haven’t solved.
Where’s footnote 8, dev?! Did you put it in your pant pockets?! (/j)
Also, tangentially, thanks for introducing me to the LGI album. It’s a really good album ^^
Thank you for the research you’ve put into everything! Things like Ace’s talent causing his eating disorder are really appreciated, they show a genuine care and love for the project.
Thank you for all the little details you might think no one notices, but that we love to see! Things like the first Nonstop Debate ending in perjury, Teruko listing Xander as one of the people whose secret was unrevealed, David’s eyes being different in his genuine breakdowns to his little thing in Ep 11, strychnine not being listed with the other custom weapons because Charles made the list, the note Xander received having a proper full message which has been obscured (I can only make out “it is” at the bottom, but it’s clear the message is there), the charm on Teruko’s thing-that’s-probably-a-MonoPad-but-may-be-something-else being the same as Unnamed Classmate’s phone charm, all the interesting details in the character profiles, among so many other things.
This also includes details revealed on Q&As. Arei being ambidextrous, Teruko liking “girly” clothing, Xander having a weak sense of taste, Ace having 9 siblings, Veronika’s earring being related to a friend, all the favorite and least favorite colors and ice cream flavors. As well as the few things we know about people like Felicity and Elliot that made the community fall in love with them for no apparent reason. It just makes them all seem so human!
Thank you to the voice actors, as well! They’ve all done such an amazing job, no exceptions! In particular, Veronika’s unhinged laughter, the dialogue after Ace’s almost murder, Min’s last words, David’s speech post the “guilty as charged” incident… but it’s all fantastic, all the characters are voiced really well.
And thank you for so much more! If I kept going, this post would never end. DRDT just means more to me than any finite number of words could ever convey. Without your work, the days pass by tastelessly /ref. So, one last time for the road:

La Pluie: A Tale of Tender Hearts
It's already been a week since La Pluie has ended and I'm still left in awe of how unsuspecting this show was presented and just how lovely it turned out to be. I tend to have the attention span of a gnat when it comes to shows that I consume, but La Pluie has been different. Starting with the cameo of Nora Robert's MacKade Brothers, I find that La Pluie has challenged me to look beyond what meets the eye at first glance and really engage with the message that they are attempting to convey. La Pluie asks you to watch the characters challenge their own beliefs while also challenging your own beliefs of the romance tropes they utilize.
Love in media is always romanticized and dramatized as something that is designed by the stars and predesignated in fate. In a world in which La Pluie takes place, it makes sense why people want to believe in the notion that the one you can hear is your soulmate. Humans are bound to creating answers out of what is unknown and confusing. La Pluie uses all the world-building that they established to subvert the notion of a destined love and instead utilized it to emphasize the active and deliberate choice to love someone and maintain a relationship, even when you're faced with challenges. They subverted the 'stars aligned' trope to show that love is an intentional commitment and ongoing effort, no amount of destiny is going to be sufficient to keep a relationship alive.
I think another running theme, though mostly in the undercurrent of the show, is that any form of love without work just ends up hurting all parties involved. La Pluie, for all intents and purposes, is a romance drama, but they allowed themselves to show so many different types of love. Love is often wrapped up in the idea of consisting solely of eros, and this is especially true in any romance drama, but La Pluie did such a good job at depicting different forms of love. And how they all take the conscious effort to keep the love alive, whether it be romantic, friendly, or familial. Each of these forms of love take a shit ton of work and effort to cultivate and keep safe, without it misunderstandings brew and resentment grows.
If episode 11 really focused on that for familial love, this final episode really continued to cement that message into the relationships of our main four. Lomfon stuck to his guns and publicly professed his feelings through his project, but a starry-eyed edited collage does not mean anything and Tien essentially states as such. Saengtien didn't let himself have hope until Lomfon verbally stated that he was in love with him. Lomfon, who used to be a bit proud, finally learned how to fully communicate. It was a long journey and he fucked up more than once, but he made the effort and he grew as a person from his mistakes. Their whole arch from frenemies to friends to lovers was weaved through the show. Their development depended on how they communicated and if they were even able to communicate. You can't start any relationship, whether friendship or more, if you can't learn to communicate.
Lomfon's biggest fuck-up came from the lack of communication, he expressed vague ideas to Saengtien, but was never nearly as forward as he was in the final episode. He learned his lesson at the cost of his relationship with Tien, both romantically and as his friend. He even warns Tien that he'll show him through his actions as well, and he does. Meanwhile Tien, who has been sidelined his whole life, has finally found his own place of comfort in Lomfon. As I've seen @bengiyo say multiple times throughout his reviews, there's no magical dick that will solve ones problems, and that rings true here. Saengtien will always be one to willing self-sacrifice in order to protect those that he loves, but this time around Lomfon will be there to look out for him. To have his best interests and welfare at heart. There's finally someone in his corner.
Saengtai... Oh Saengtai, I had such a love-hate relationship with his character because he was so finnicky and frustrating throughout the whole show. That signifies that both La Pluie and Title did a good job, because I don't necessarily believe that he was supposed to be a loveable protagonist. We finally get full-blown development from him, and he for once becomes pro-active in his life. It came full circle that Tai had to utilize both his words and his actions to salvage his relationship with Patts, after shunning him out for years. Now without the soulmate connection to assist, Tai has to put in the work to locate Patts.
It was never the lack of love that was the problem in their relationship, it wasn't even that their love was flimsily based on a notion of soulmates, but rather Tai had to unlearn his self-absorbed tendencies for Patts. A relationship won't survive in the long-term if it's one party that gives and gives, especially not when Patts has reiterated the need for Tai's affirmation of their love and relationship. This time, it finally clicked for Saengtai that he needs to communicate his care. Actions may speak louder than words, but if you're conducting yourself in a manner that is contradictory (even with the best intentions), those actions are obscured. Patt's needed that verbal confirmation and Tai finally learned how to give it. They love each other beyond the soulmate bond, they love each other because they choose to do so.
Tai finally came to that realization and understanding because he was forced to face the reality of his own parents and their bond. Saengtai was a traumatized kid of divorce who had their same ailment, it's not crazy that his understanding of love was shaken. He just didn't realize that there was no loss of love between his parents, their love had just taken on a different form. His parents loved each other, but they knew that they weren't good for each other. Priorities had changed and expectations clashed, their separation was a choice to salvage their love. The catalyst of his initial questioning of the soulmate bond brought him the answer that he needed to hear after destroying his own bond. Love is work. Love will always be work. It just depends on you to choose to work with it.
This show will always be a memorable one for me. It probed on ideas that romance shows and novels tend to shy away from, glossing over the fact that no relationship can survive without work. Love is a choice. We will never know if the choice we make will work things out or if it'll cause us the pain that we want to shield ourselves from, but without making that choice, we seclude ourselves. We rob ourselves of experiences in fear. Instead of fantasizing about allowing destiny leading us to who we love, we need to take control. People aren't simply meant for each other, they work to become meant for each other.
La Pluie is more than just another romantic BL, as the story unfolds, it allowed us (the viewers) to witness every single characters' journey of self-discovery, vulnerability, and gradual understanding of what it means to love and be in love. It's not a high stakes drama and it was never meant to be, instead from the first episode we were made aware that this was a show that was going to challenge deep-seated beliefs of the characters. In a world that was built around such a otherworldly, fictional disease, it allowed for an in-depth analysis of what it means to find love and what it means to keep it alive. This show was never meant to be a simple soulmate trope BL, and that much was clear when it set its mission statement in the first episode. It only continues to reiterate that idea as it concluded with this last message from Saengtai.
"In the end, the hearing-loss and soul-mate stuff are still questions that no one finds an answer. Or in fact, no one chooses to find an answer anymore. Because whether or not we know, it doesn't have anything to do with the path each person chooses. And, we will never know whether the paths we choose are the best ones. At least, we get to choose our own paths, instead of destiny determining it for us. There may be sadness, happiness, struggles, or convenience. But all in all, it's the meaning of life. I wish you all a happy journey in life."

outlines. i mentioned this in my previous ask, because it literally is the first thing that i do. as soon as I think of an idea, a person, a scene anything, I write it down. whether that be in your notes app (which I prefer to use) or a notebook, w r i t e it d o w n. this is the best way to truly craft and add onto those ideas as well as plan out your series, story, whatever. with that, I also really like the flexibility it allows when you want to change something or allow other thoughts to appear.
when it comes to fanfiction specifically, it helps me a lot to research the world I am trying to contextualize, whether that be watching scenes, googling, or scrolling through interests -- all of these allow me to get into the right mindset when writing as well as helping if I feel stuck.
as of lately, what I have relied on so much is pinterest. I know it's not exactly for everyone, but I have absolutely loved it so much. I will usually create private boards for short stories or even the books I have written, allowing myself a place to really go and identify the main vibes or feelings I want to convey. it provides motivation when I am maybe not feeling inclined to write, as well as another resource to use to organize my thoughts and intentions.
there aren't many more I can name off the top of my head right now, but a lot of the ones I listed in my previous ask still apply a lot to me as a writer now. so please go read those as well. I hope this helped!

Dating is a pain. Being in a relationship doesn't seem as fun as everyone said. It always ended up so boring. It's either his partner conveyed too much or too little love. Sometimes, they gave him so much love in the beginning only to act distant and cold towards the end.
He groaned for the umpteenth time, eyes observing the employees of Monstro Lounge. It was quite busy for them so there are new staff Ace had never seen before.
"You do know that homework won't finish itself right?" Deuce stated, clearly annoyed. "We have to pass it up on Monday, which is tommorrow mind you."
I'm willing to swallow needles or anything on Monday
Ace looked up to face Deuce, "It'll be fiiiiiine. I can just stay up late to finish it." He huffed before going back to his activity.
"You're always slacking. You said that last time as well and ended up getting scolded by Mr Crewel for-" He completely blocked out Deuce's nagging, treating it as if it was just another fly buzzing near him

"Sorry, I'm late!!" Your voice caught Ace's attention. He snapped out of his trance and search for the source. Once he saw you...his heart began to beat faster.
There you were, dripping in sweat and still managing to look like the most beautiful person on Twisted Wonderland. Realizing that he had been staring at you for the past minute ever since you came through the door, he looked away. He didn't want to scare you, letting you think he's a creep like Rook was the last thing he'll ever wish for.

You've noticed Ace had begun to frequent your workplace more. You chalk it up to just him being one of those students who's addicted to Monstro Lounge for god knows why.
You weren't complaining tho, he was attractive after all. It at least gave you something to look forward to in your boring workplace. It made your shift more bearable having an eye candy to observe.
Ace, on the other hand, was screaming in excitement. He could feel you staring at him more than usual and it made him feel closer to you.
Ace had all the information about you he could possible get his hands on. Your full name, age, birthplace and even your schedule. He memorized everything about you so fast that it'll probably bring shame to his housewarden and making Riddle annoyed he couldn't do it to the Queen's 810 rules.
Sometimes, he would follow you the whole day. He doesn't care about the stares or weird looks the other second years gave him nor the scolding he received from Riddle. He just want to see you and it'll drive him mad if he had to go a day without you.

Ace's money is slowly depleting as he carries on with his Monstro Lounge visit. He had to stop eating anything outside of that place. His friends questioned him about it but he played it off as just wanting to save money.
He had to think of ways to keep seeing you and cease any suspicions others might have. After a week of gaining courage, he finally asked you out on a date.
Suprised, you dropped one of the drinks you were carrying on him. "Ah! I'm so sorry! I'll clean it up for you." You apologize profusely and began cleaning up the mess.
Ace snickered, making your already red face turn into a darker shade. He held the hand that was cleaning and reassured you that it was fine. He'll even pay for the spilt drink. All he wants was your answer.
You contemplate it for a few seconds, He's attractive and is very funny whenever you guys converse. Though a little bit of a troublemaker as you had seen him getting collared by Riddle a few times.
'Is this a good idea?' You questioned yourself but ended up agreeing to his invitation.
"I promise, I'll make you the happiest person alive on our dates. You won't regret saying yes to me!"

During your dates, Ace had made you feel like you're on cloud nine. He made sure you felt love and comfortable. When he asked to make it official, you didn't hesitate to say yes.
Ace was the sweetest boyfriend ever. He walked you from your dorm to your class everyday even if it meant he'll be late to his own. You scolded and nagged him for it but he just smiled at you.
"Cherry pie~ For me, your happiness and safety are my number one priority. I don't give two fucks about that as long as you're by my side." Was what he constantly said and it never fails to make your face red.
Its fascinating and insane what people would do when they're blindly in love. Some would go to extreme lengths for their sweetheart and it never fails to amuse~
'Am I crazy?' The question floats around in Ace's head when he finds himself doing odd stuff. Multiple times he had caught himself stalking and taking pictures of you when he could've simply stayed by your side.
It drove him nuts. His actions are very unlike him yet once he saw his growing collection of your pictures, he dismissed his concerns instantly.
"I'm sorry my darling," Ace caressed one of your pictures. "I shouldn't have doubts. What is my worth if its not you? What would be my purpose? I am nothing without you... I'll make sure those pesky thoughts won't interfere with us."

The Beryl Coronet Part 1 - Notes!
I'm having a lazy Sunday morning so I'm going to luxuriously type out my thoughts while I'm reading today's letter! I'm especially excited because I don't think I've properly read this one.

I have however read this little nugget of detail because I tried to find any and all descriptions of Baker Street for a game I'm making (The Beekeeper's picnic, you can wishlist it on Steam if you like...)
In a different story it's described as having a bay window. Both bow windows and bay windows project from the exterior wall. Bow windows usually have more panes of glass to make a smooth outward curve.
Both are also fiendishly difficult to convey when you're working with 320x130 pixels.
“Holmes,” said I as I stood one morning in our bow-window looking down the street, “here is a madman coming along. It seems rather sad that his relatives should allow him to come out alone.”
Outdated attitudes towards mental health aside, I think it's sweet that Watson is able to see someone in distress at a distance and immediately find it sad nobody is looking out for him. His doctorly instincts are aroused!
Sherlock Holmes pushed him down into the easy-chair and, sitting beside him, patted his hand and chatted with him in the easy, soothing tones which he knew so well how to employ.
Likewise, Holmes is knows by now how to handle someone in distress. There's a really sweet illustration of this moment by Josef Friedrich
We have done a good deal in this direction during the last few years, and there are many noble families to whom we have advanced large sums upon the security of their pictures, libraries, or plate.

Either that or this is some kind of scam on the bank (perhaps they upfront the money for the coronet but never receive it, or receive a fake) But since we're apparently dealing with a famous notable person, I don't think that's going to be it)

There has already been a mountain of discussion about coronets in the LfW server - what precisely it is, how the word is pronounced, the etymology...
I'd always thought a coronet was something like this - basically a tiara but a little more gender-neutral!
Turns out it's actually a small crown which has a top to it.

I really hope this is just lip service and he wouldn't have really done that. Please Mr Holder, don't lend clients your own money! I feel he's being set up here, either by the narrative or by this Mysterious Notable Man.

I thought that first-cousin marriage was a bit of an eyebrow-raiser at this time even though it did happen sometimes.
Where are the jewels which you have stolen?’
“‘Stolen!’ he cried.
“‘Yes, thief!’ I roared, shaking him by the shoulder.
“‘There are none missing. There cannot be any missing,’ said he.
Ok, I think that was actually a "Stolen?!" and he's as surprised as anyone. The beryls were already gone by the time he got there. I'm sure Lucy's disappearance has something to do with it!
at the sight of the coronet and of Arthur's face, she read the whole story and, with a scream, fell down senseless on the ground.
I feel bad for laughing at this.
I am enjoying this one SO MUCH so far! The missing item genre of Sherlock Holmes story is one of my favorites, and so far we've had a really tense tragic narrative with lots of complexity.
I am a little worried that this story isn't a well known one and so perhaps it's a bit of a flop towards the end - but who knows, perhaps it's appropriately a hidden gem!

interview: 82MAJOR Aspire to be the 'FIRST CLASS' Idol in Their Own Colour
82MAJOR, a six-member South Korean boy group under GREAT M Entertainment, has made their official debut with the release of their 1st single, ON. Their name was inspired by South Korea’s country code, 82, and the group’s aspirations to introduce a new direction to K-pop and establish themselves as a major presence globally. Let’s get to know more about the group and their music direction in the recent interview.

Q: Some of the members contributed to the song writing process for this debut single. Can you offer some insights to the song writing process and the messages that you wanted to convey through the lyrics?
Nam Seong Mo: When I first heard the melody of "SURE THING," it brought a positive, hopeful feeling. It inspired me to write lyrics as if directly communicating with our fans. Crafting these lyrics, a lot of beautiful words came to mind. In a section mentioning "a small firefly," I remembered being a child and witnessing a firefly, amazed at how something so small could emit such a bright light. I aimed to be a similar source of light, even if small, for our fans. That’s how the lyrics came together.
Hwang Seong Bin: While creating "FIRST CLASS," my focus was on the aspiration for 82MAJOR to reach a first-class status in the future. I aimed to express this ambition through the song's lyrics.
Yoon Ye Chan: When I was working on “FIRST CLASS,” I just realized that it was natural for us because we are confident with our writing and rapping skills. So, when it came down to writing process, with the ‘first class’ and ‘this is who we really are’ mindset, it was really easy to write the lyrics that match the song.
Q: Do you have any particular goals for this debut single?
Cho Seong Il: Even though we just made our debut, it is my goal to receive the Rookie of the Year award. It is the biggest goal that we have. After receiving the Rookie of the Year award, we will do our best to receive the grand award through our next album.
Nam Seong Mo: I really want to be first place on a music show.
Park Seok Joon: We aim to showcase our group's incredible presence to the public. With tracks like "FIRST CLASS" and "SURE THING" offering different vibes, our goal is to excel in expressing those diverse vibes through facial expressions and gestures, highlighting our capability to pull off such different concepts.
Q: On your journey to debut, did anything funny or memorable moment that you will remember forever?
Cho Seong Il: During the filming of the music video for "FIRST CLASS," the weather started out great but took a turn with sudden rain in the evening. We were concerned about continuing the shoot, but the director proposed capturing the current atmosphere, so we ended up filming the music video in rain. The director did a great job in bringing out the vibe even during when it was raining, and I think it came out better than what was originally intended.

Q: What is one thing that is very different between being a trainee and a rookie idol?
Cho Seong Il: I think our daily schedule changed a lot. Before as trainees, we would always practice here in the practice room. Now that we've made our debut, we have more opportunities to attend schedule elsewhere. Also, we get more time to interact with our fans, which I find to be great.
Park Seok Joon: For me, when I was a trainee, I did not have the confidence that I will debut for sure. Now that we've made our debut, I want to show a better side of us, and it motivates me to do well during practice sessions as well as lyrics writing.
Kim Do Gyun: I think I was able to gain new experiences, and it allowed us to come together more as a team and improve our teamwork.
Q: What is something that you really look forward to now that you've debuted?
Yoon Ye Chan: Personally for me, performing in front of other people and writing more songs. That’s what I look forward to.
Park Seok Joon: When our debut was confirmed as we received the songs for the album, I really look forward to finding out the songs that we will get to perform.
Hwang Seong Bin: I'm really excited for getting the opportunity to collaborate with other artists.

Q: What attracted you to have music as your career and what made you decide to be an idol?
Yoon Ye Chan: My family has a very long and extensive line in music; my brother is already an idol (P1Harmony’s KEEHO), my mother was a pianist while my uncles major in guitar and drums (respectively). Since our whole family has been working in the music industry, so I have always been surrounded by music and naturally compelled in doing music.
Cho Seong Il: As I was thinking about what career path I should take, I thought about how I loved singing and dancing. I decided to audition and eventually landed a spot in the company, leading me to debut as an idol.
Hwang Seong Bin: When I was 16, I was mesmerized Post Malone's stages, which eventually inspired me to take the path of an idol. I found solace in his music and it inspired me to pursue a path as an artist. I was deeply moved and wished to provide that comfort to others as well. That’s how I decide to have a career in music.
Q: What are your long-term goals as a group?
Hwang Seong Bin: With all six of us in the group, I want to leave a lasting impression that 82MAJOR is a cool group that others aspire to become.
Yoon Ye Chan: As a long-term goal, I wish to be our own producer for our albums, instead of receiving demos from other producers. We got two producers, the third one is on the way, so, I hope we can make our own albums soon.
Kim Do Gyun: Also, we want to create music that is distinctly our own colour and present it to the public.
Q: Do you have a message that you want to leave for your fans?
Hwang Seong Bin: Thank you so much for supporting us. You are the reason for our existence. We love you! ❤ ❤ ❤

6. What's something you have in common with this character?
I feel like I'd have to make the understatement of the century to make any of my experiences or characteristics sound equivalent to his LMAO but with something like the wiki, I can definitely relate to his frustrations with feeling like people don't pull their own weight or listen to my instructions, and I definitely don't hold back in expressing that. For better and for worse...
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
I guess it's semi-canon because of RGGO, but I like to think he wears perfume. Definitely something floral based on the petals in his heat aura...
20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?
Arakawa bro this is NOT a QUESTION😭😭😭😭😭I'm certainly curious what his relationships with with various characters will be like in Infinite Wealth, but I don't think he'll ever have what he had with Arakawa again...
23. Favorite picture of this character?
There are a lot of pictures of him I like that actually have his face in the frame (the Tsutsumi bias is UNREAL believe me), but since I have the same brain as @todayisafridaynight (whom most of my followers also follow) and he's posted them a fair few times, I'll take a moment to highlight this particular shot. It always sticks out in my mind on a symbolic level. The way he deliberately bloodies the hand that was clean...
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
I was really thrown off! I loved Sawashiro's character from RGGO and the two couldn't be more different, in both design and and personality. Learning he was a faceclaim cleared up my confusion somewhat, but I was still apprehensive I wouldn't like him as much as I did RGGO's take on his character, since he was tied with Mine for my favorite main antagonist at the time. Although he's not exactly in the running for that particular title given he isn't a final-boss-level antagonist, he is now absolutely one of my favorite characters in the franchise to date.
In terms of how my impressions evolved throughout my experience of the game, that's a little harder to track. I believe RGGS were doing playthroughs of most of Chapter 1 up to Jo's final scene in that chapter, which is all it took for me to look forward to the rest. It should be noted I specifically watched the Japanese version when it came out, about a year prior to its Western release.
I think I'd seen his second boss fight's dynamic intro/transitions prior to actually getting to that point, I believe, and Well. They Were Sexy. What can I say... Unfortunately, something else I'd seen (been told against my will, rather) before that point was the plot twist, but it does speak to the writing and execution that despite this and the fact I thought his abusive background with his father was a little hokey at the time (<- WRONG), the combination of Coin Locker Baby (the entire chapter) as well as his "scene" in the epilogue solidified him as a favorite. Even before then, I found it intriguing to note things like his deference to authority and the lore conveyed through his battles themselves and to compare and contrast him with how RGGO's Sawashiro was executed.
I couldn't honestly say who I prefer between RGGO or YLAD's Sawashiros even at the time. If nothing else, I fully believe they're both the kinds of characters who get better and better the more you revisit and discuss them--I changed my mind on Sawashiro's abusive background just from seeing how well it ties in to his scenes with the rest of the Arakawa family unit, for example. Talking to Snap very much rekindled my love for him as well, and I'm super excited to see him back in Infinite Wealth!

Fall Down With You
Chapter 6
(previous chapter)
Nico really should have known better. They both should have known that time wouldn’t be on their side. After all, it’s hardly the first time they’ve ended up in this situation.
But the thing is, they haven’t properly spent time together in almost three weeks, and now here they are, wrapped up together in bed in their little apartment in New Rome, still sharing soft kisses and careful touches, and Nico’s just managed to divest his boyfriend of the last of his clothes. He presses a final kiss to Will’s collarbone before ducking under the covers. Will sighs, his fingers coming to twine gently in Nico’s hair.
Then - “fuck,” Will groans.
“Hmm? What did I do?”
“My phone.” Will scrambles up, lunging for the night table, his knee bumping Nico’s cheekbone in his haste.
“Shit, sorry -” Will’s eyes go wide.
Nico winces, waving the other man off, and Will dives for the phone, catching it on the last ring.
It’s definitely the hospital. Will immediately puts on his doctor voice, and damn if that isn’t the hottest thing ever, especially combined with the view of the taller man pacing naked towards the hallway, phone pressed to his ear.
Nico hears him ending the call, and Will walks back into the bedroom looking regretful. “I thought I was going to get some sleep,” he sighs.
Nico rises up to his knees to embrace his boyfriend at the side of the bed. “I thought I was going to get to… you know.” He presses a kiss to Will’s chin.
Will chuckles. “What? What were you gonna get to do?”
Nico grins. “You know, that… that thing.” He tries his best to convey… something. Through raised eyebrows, tilts of his head and a pointed glance downward. He winks.
Will lets out a giggle. “I think I have even less idea of what your plan was than I did five minutes ago,” he teases.
Nico flops back onto the bed. “Well. Just rest assured it was going to be really good,” he says, only a little embarrassed. “I’ll show you when you get back.”
Will leans down for a kiss. “I’ll look forward to it.”
Nico watches the other man dress, disappointment tempered with the fact that he knows Will really, honestly loves his work. Even if it means Nico doesn’t have his boyfriend all to himself nearly as much as he’d like to. They’re both so busy these days, Will in the first year of his residency, Nico ensconced in his post-graduate program and the occasional errand for his dad.
Will returns for a good-bye kiss, his hair tousled, face flushed from his rush to dress as well as their earlier activities. They linger just a little longer than they should, in gentle kisses, Will sinking down to sit on the edge of the bed, warm fingers finding their way under the hem of Nico’s t-shirt. He finally pulls away, pressing a kiss to the bridge of Nico’s nose.
“Think they can wait another ten minutes?” Nico asks, hopeful and a little breathless.
Will grimaces. “I should probably go. Sorry, I -”
Nico silences him with another kiss. “Don’t be. Just come back to me.”
“Always.”

It’s hours later when Will finally crawls back into bed. Less than an hour before Nico’s alarm is set to go off, he notes, squinting blearily at the clock.
Will snuggles up to his boyfriend immediately, face pressed into the space between Nico’s shoulder and his chin, his words rushing against Nico's skin.
“My feet are killing me. I was stuck in surgery for four hours and by the end of it, all I could think of was being right here with you,” Will moans softly.
“Mmm. Poor baby,” Nico murmurs, sleepily raising a hand to stroke Will’s hair. Will hums happily, nuzzling.
Nico turns his head into Will’s, feeling himself drift closer to sleep. It’s delicious like this, cocooned in blankets, tangled with the only person he’d ever want to be entwined with.
And then Nico suddenly remembers where they left off, hours ago. And honestly, he’d be happy just to sleep a bit longer, but - “did you wanna um… do stuff?” he whispers.
There’s a long silence. Will shifts slightly, lifting his head.
“I do… but I’m just really -”
Nico shakes his head, smiling. “No - me too. It’s okay.”
Will flops back down, nuzzling closer, if possible. “Thank gods. I mean, if you really wanted to -”
Nico snorts. “Don’t be silly. Sleep, sweetheart.”
“Just want you,” Will mumbles, sounding half-asleep already.
“I’m all yours,” Nico murmurs. “For…” he glances at the clock. “Thirty-eight minutes.”
Will sighs. “It’ll have to do.”
Maybe almost an hour, if he skips breakfast, Nico decides.

Aikatsu Friends always had a tendency to go overboard with vocal filters/effects, but they went completely out of control with this song, which uses vocal filters on not just a few lines, but two entire verses (or more, if you're listening to the full version). I guess it fits with the idea that they're in space, transmitting a message from far away, and then singing freely and clearly once they reach Earth at the chorus. But regardless of that, I personally can't stand it.
The chorus, on the other hand, is marvellous. It's very simple, but it perfectly conveys everything about this song: joy, wonder, mystery, fantasy, and a little bit of sadness. The beginning of the chorus is very major-key, and combined with the bells in the background, it almost starts to sound like a Christmas song – but the lower, slightly melancholic "sugoi nante/jikuu koete"/etc parts help transform the atmosphere into something more dreamlike. There's a very careful balance of putting in enough pop elements to make the song fun and catchy, but not enough to destroy its unique and magical atmosphere.
I'm sorry, but I think the electric guitar interlude is ugly. It comes out of nowhere and completely changes the atmosphere for no reason. Its jarring randomness is only rivalled by Liella's "Wish Song". Also, it has an oddly smooth and wiggly sound that doesn't seem right for electric guitars. Take some of the distortion from the vocals and give it to the guitar instead, please.
I usually love calmer breakdown sections of songs, so it's a testament to how good this song's arrangement is that I always look forward to the drums and bells coming back for the last chorus. I also usually like irregular rhythms, so again, it's a testament to good arrangement that I usually feel slightly disappointed by the change in rhythm and wish that it was the dance beat from the first chorus again. But the change in beat gives a very 'finale'-like sound to that last chorus, and I think it was the right choice.
Vocals
I think the vocals of this song do their part: they carry the lyrics, and provide something other than the instrumentals. No more, no less. I suppose there are a few parts that could be considered slightly good or bad. Of course, I have to mention the part where they take turns singing syllables – doing that requires a high level of synchronicity and trust, and helps to highlight how well they get along as sisters. And there are some moments where their soft voices create a really chilling effect, especially when they sing together.
Lyrics
This song has some of the best (if not the very best) lyrics in all of Aikatsu Friends. They tell a story while providing vivid visuals, and the rhymes and moon puns just take it to the next level.
Choreography
Some people were saying that the ballet-inspired moves were not executed very well. And yes, the dance is definitely does not reflect that the characters are supposed to be good at ballet. But it probably looks fine to anyone who isn't a dance nerd.
Visuals
The stage design, like the song, is so mysterious and nostalgic. It brings back countless vague, unnameable memories for me.
The outfits are really special, and everyone was commenting on them when they first were revealed. I mean, I'm not sure that ram horns and hooves really fit the theme of a Princess Kaguya-inspired fairy tale, but they do give a very strong 'fantasy' feeling.
Good points: Magical yet catchy music, really good lyrics, and the bells!!
Bad points: I think the things I consider bad are the things that other people like...
Rating: 8.5/10
Personal rating: If I consider the whole song and not just the parts I like then it's probably only 6.7/10, but it pains me to say that.

Commander’s NPC fans
There are some NPC’s that have actually flirted with the Commander. I think these are the most bold ones.
Then there are few who have expressed admiration towards the Commander.

A pause. You should be flattered, you know. But once again, the meeting <he/she> called was strictly professional. Your heart sinks as the silence stretches on, unable to say what you really want.
But then the commander moves close. "I've also noticed the way you look at me." You can feel <his/her> warmth. "The way you've always looked at me."
"So now," the commander continues, taking your hand, "I'd like to propose...a different pact. A lifelong pact. With you."
Almost on cue, a flock of snow-white seagulls takes flight.
Nozomi: Yao wasn't kidding, you ARE cute! It's nice to finally put a face to all the good gossip. [...] Yao was right about you. You're a keeper.
Kestrel Ariana: Commander.
Commander: Funny seeing a Kestrel in a place like this.
Kestrel Ariana: I know my limits. Long as I don't hit them, it's a great way to blow off stream. The things I've seen, well, sometimes I need help forgetting about them for a while.
Commander: I understand.
Kestrel Ariana: You need to blow something off too? I could use some company...
Commander: I, ah, ahem...need to go.
These NPCs are called ‘playersexuals’. They flirt with your Commander no matter what gender or species your Commander is (except the Olmakhan ones, they just don’t care about the gender). X3
These few npcs, and I like to think that there are more. They just aren’t as gutsy or forward with their thoughts.
These are always fun to find and read. And I would love the idea if the Commander got an enemy that actually had a crush on them, but wants to deny it.
Also would be nice to every race get a little admiration from their own kind, pretty much like those Olmakhan charr did the charr Commander. XP

When writing both sides of the law whose POV was more challenging to write through? do you have a favorite POV? You captured Beth and Rios voice so perfectly!! do you have any tips on how to put Brio in a completely different universe but still make it feel like it's them?

Putting under a cut b/c, as always, brevity is not ya girl’s strength.
I found both POVs equally challenging for different reasons, and while writing each one, I would longingly think about how much easier the last one was and how much I looked forward to finishing the current one to get back to the other one.
Beth’s was easiest b/c superficially, I’m like Beth. White woman from American suburbia, same general age range, oldest daughter with wacky, irresponsible, beloved younger sibling that I had to parent from the moment of their birth? Check, check, and check. So it wasn’t hard to try to channel that POV, because Beth’s experiences were something I could relate to or imagine her reactions.
By the opposite token, Rio was therefore exponentially more difficult. A man, Latino-American, crime-adjacent, etc. – what do I know about all that other than from pop culture/reading others’ perspectives?
The “man” part being the first hurdle, because yes, I’ve read George R.R. Martin talking about how he as a man writes such disparate women characters (“You know, I’ve always considered women to be people.”) and that’s all well and good (are men people tho? Jury still out. Just kidding. Mostly.), but I also LIVE for the Men Writing Women Badly memes (“Her large gelatinous boobs hung calmly, penitently boobing boobliciously under her boob-framing shirt.”), and I was constantly worried I was doing the same thing in reverse, i.e., “is this actually how a [supposedly] normal hetero cis man thinks/acts? Seems sus….”
And then writing from the perspective of someone a different race/cultural background than my own? I know it’s no surprise that race/culture issues can be so fraught in America and deservedly so (of course elsewhere in the world too, just noting “in America” as that is my personal experience and the experience of the overwhelmingly American media/pop culture I consume), and I was very sure I didn’t have the skill or ability to convey any of that with sensitivity or nuance so tried to avoid it/not get too into it too much for fear of botching it badly or offending or writing something that came off as a straight caricature (example: I cut so much of Rio’s “family” scenes other than the Gretchen ones, etc.).
But then again Beth’s POV was harder for me b/c personality and temperament-wise, she is not me. I am the OG Gen X Slacker Stereotype (the Hufflepuff to Rio’s and Beth’s Slytherins, if you will, which is a good fit as I think about it b/c Hufflepuffs love Slytherins) and sometimes writing all Beth’s lists and research and BETH-ness was so exhausting I wanted to take a stress nap (Insert Fat Amy gif: “ENOUGH [WITH THE DAMN BINDERS, BETH] ENOUGH!”).
And then Rio was much easier b/c his “humor” for me was fun to channel b/c I see it as more like my own, as is what I viewed his approach to school and studying (get by on talking and reading quickly and retaining only what you need to know? Check!), and how his POV could just be long monologues of observing Beth and making fun of her rigidity (this was often-times just straight “JoeyLee dunking on Beth” and not “Rio the Character dunking on Beth” if that makes sense).
As far as tips for writing an AU, I don’t think I have any really good ones – again, I’m not the creative writer others are as shown by the fact that my “creative” attempt at an alternate universe was literally a universe I had actually personally experienced, aka law school – but for me, I tried to think of what I believed to be the core characteristics of the canon characters (understanding that this was MY read of them, and others’ mileage may and should vary):
· She is: intensely private, a Certified Leslie Knope-Level Steamroller, willful, dogged, often entitled, knows how to weaponize her privilege, blind to the things she doesn’t want to face/acknowledge, desperate for approval from outside sources she values (Rio, teachers/authority figures, Polite Society at Large), pragmatic, goofy sense of humor, and above all, will always prioritize “survival” over personal happiness;
· He is: family and business-oriented, charming, charismatic, ruthless, full of joie de vivre and able to see the humor in life, quick-witted, sarcastic, flashy in dress/accessories/material things, and capable of effortlessly slipping into different faces and masks to fit any situation;
· They both are: stubborn, ambitious, very emotional (her more inwardly, him more outwardly), petty, aware of what they look like physically and their effect on others (but often not their effect on each other), absolutely convinced at all times they are right, quick to lash out and go total NUCLEAR/SCORCHED EARTH when wounded or hurt, competitive, and obsessed with each other at all times, even when they supposedly dislike/hate the other.
So I told myself that even though I was writing an AU, they always had to be in personality like how they are in canon, otherwise I would just be writing original characters with the Beth/Rio names slapped on them (this is fine too, of course, but the whole point of fanfic for me is to read about the characters I love).
Then I tried to always write them acting and reacting like those characteristics above, even as they weren’t reacting as I would have and it made the writing harder (me thinking “FOR GOD’S SAKE, can you just HAVE A CONVERSATION for once and stop with this madness!”)
So my advice would be: for any alternate universe setting you can imagine, just think about what the characters’ core characteristics are for you. Then you have to write them always remaining true to those, no matter what different timeline or life experiences you’ve dreamed up (and that could even be half the fun – what would Beth’s life be like in an AU where she doesn’t have Annie as a younger sibling? Or didn’t meet Trashcan Dean too young? What must have happened that formed/shaped her into the same Canon-Beth Personality without those Canon-Beth Life Experiences?).
And final thought, I gotta say, the AUs I’ve read where that is done well (like I have read so many times in this fandom), well, for me, it’s like seeing the Multiverse – all my fave characters in so many different times and places, but still themselves, still them. Don’t get me wrong, I love a canon or canon-compliant fic super hard, and I understand why some readers just can never relate to an AU. But it makes me happy to find a new AU and pretend I’m Dr. Strange seeing another one of the million different universes where my faves are still existing and interacting in different forms. Possibilities = endless.

I always hear different takes on this; but who do you think is gonna be most important in rhine’s resolution?? Since there’s defiantly *something* going in that woman’s head. And I (sadly) don’t think genshin’s endgame will include sending her to a psychologist; who (and why) do you think will be the most figures in her sort of healing (or atleast beginning to heal) all the stuff that’s happened over the last 500+ years??

it would be really funny if they just made her go to therapy hksjagvdj but hmm.. i think the obvious options from what we know are either, a hexenzirkel character, someone from khaenri'ah, one of her children, or the traveler. from what we know of her now i feel like its almost. unfair to say albedo bc he's like. the obvious answer both bc of. well. access to information. and bc his arc would heavily involve hers. and i think her final mission to him is something deeply personal to her. i think hearing his answer would be something so important to their relationship and thus their characters. i don't think she would be changed necessarily from that (at least im hoping dear god she has so many other things to account for i hope they manage to convey that well) and that alone but i wouldn't be surprised if it served as either a catalyst (ha) or a confirmation to something she's been questioning. i do think it would also be compelling if it came from someone she discarded like primo-bedo instead.. (its not what she expected and its almost a direct sign that she's messed up somehow)

“Jon. Can I ask you something?”
Daisy’s been quieter than normal today. She’s already quiet — always tired and careful, trying not to intrude in Jon’s space, despite having her own corner of the office now. There’s a chair and a wobbly end-table they found… somewhere, Jon’s really not sure. A stack of boxes to give her another place to put things. Jon envies how she manages to wrangle any loose papers despite having so little space, and frowns at the mess on his own much larger desk.
At her question, Jon pushes aside the old (horrible, useless, stale) statement he’d been combing through for research purposes and sits up. His spine sings a little song and Jon groans, leaning back in his chair. “Of course. What is it?”
In the seconds before she answers, Jon thinks Daisy looks cold. The sweater she has on is her own, yet Jon has noticed her consistently adjusting it, trying to keep the neckline over her shoulders. Basira had to lend her a belt recently to keep her trousers from giving her similar problems.
“Do you… When you look at me.” Daisy’s chair is turned towards Jon, but she’s not looking at him, searching the dusty corners of his office for the best way to say what she wants. “Do you still see the person who almost killed you?”
Ah. Unconsciously, Jon’s entire body tenses up. He forces his jaw to unclench and his hands not to shake. Daisy’s gaze flits over him, like a butterfly passing, there and gone again without any disturbance.
“...Yes and no,” Jon eventually answers, once the ghost of fear has passed and he can properly think it over.
“Can you explain?” Daisy asks, staring now at the papers in her hands, resting in her lap. Jon notices her feet are planted squarely on the floor, like she might get up from her chair any second.
“Well…” Jon starts to say more, then stops, and frowns as he tries to think. “I mean, you’re… Yes, but, you’re different now. You were Daisy before, and you’re still Daisy now, but… not quite the same person.”
“Aren’t I?”
As Jon predicted, Daisy stands. She starts to pace his office. “Everyone keeps talking like I croaked in the dirt and something else crawled out to replace me.”
The wording makes Jon shiver, but he shakes his head. “That’s not it.”
“All of you have said something or other like that,” Daisy tells him. Her tone isn’t accusatory, but her expression is troubled. “Basira doesn’t want to reconcile what I am now with who I was before. Even Martin tried to let me off the hook for things I’d done. Said it wasn’t me, not really. But he’s wrong. They both are. Right?”
Jon leans forward with his elbows on his desk, rubbing his eyes beneath his glasses with a weary sigh. “You’ve never really stuck me as the type to dwell on the philosophical,” Jon jokes. Mostly for a lack of anything better to say, which he feels bad about. In a way, he understands exactly what Daisy is trying to convey, but— it’s too much. Too close to the questions he’s been asking himself so often, lately.
“It’s not philosophy, it’s real. I’m— This is the same body that hurt you. Hit you, cut your throat.”
“Daisy—”
“I won’t apologize,” Daisy tells Jon very softly. Like she’s trying to comfort him. When she glances at the hand now covering his neck, she holds on. Eventually their eyes manage to meet. “I regret what I did to you, Jon. But I still did it. Can’t take it back, can I? So why did you try blaming the Hunt instead?”
Jon fidgets, but holds her gaze, if only to keep himself from cowering. Daisy doesn’t like looking him in the eyes; Jon hadn’t noticed, before. It was only while they were in the Buried, in the near complete darkness, when Daisy had stubbornly kept her eyes locked on Jon through a gap in the dirt, that it occurred to him. When they maintained eye contact, it made Jon feel… powerful. Bigger than her. Like he could hurt Daisy and she wouldn’t be able to stop him. In some ways, Jon supposed he already had.
It should feel fair, Jon sulks to himself, then wants to laugh bitterly. No, of course not. Nothing in a world of terror gods would be fair.
“...You know why,” he says grimly. Then the shame and shyness comes, and Jon looks away first. “It’s… disorienting, isn’t it?”
“Yeah,” Daisy sighs in agreement. “That’s a good word for it. I just hate the idea that any of me… isn’t me. I know it is. Even if I don’t look the same. Even if I’m different now. The Buried didn’t get rid of who I was, it… It brought everything back into me. Made me settle with it.”
“Isn’t it frightening?” Jon can’t help but ask. He stares down at his hands now, at the ashy pink of his right palm. The taught, faint yellow pockmarks on his left. “To… to be… what you are? And that’s it?”
Daisy’s approach is slow, but Jon doesn’t move away. He watches her hand reach out to touch the back of his own. After a moment, Jon lifts his hand up, and Daisy slips her fingers beneath his, holding him. When he looks up at her, Daisy’s giving him a wan smile. “Yes,” she tells him. “And no.”
