Spy x Family is such a Concept of an animanga. Like here is a fairly good representation of what war does to both sides, taking a neutral ground as it unfurls of the horrors it brings to ordinary people, showing that no matter how justified one side is, it does not erase the horrendous things they have to do......but instead of focusing on that, it focuses primarily on the shenanigans of one family living their best fake relationship AU.
Like, in a way, that's the best way to show how hope and light still exist amongst all the war crimes and devastation (focus on life than death without diminishing the latter). Something about focusing on the ordinary or people hurt and harmed by the war even as they're working against it. Or something

it makes me so ridiculously happy whenever ryan refers to shane as his best friend. they don't even have to say it, that man IS his best friend but hearing the words come out of his mouth is everything. but sometimes i feel like it's not mutual? like, ryan's been shouting how shane's his best friend to the world, even made him his groomsman (was he the best man?) but why do i lowkey feel as if shane doesn't reciprocate that? obviously shane's been saying how he's his friend and has defended ryan time and time again, but is shane ryan's best friend but ryan isn't shane's best friend? or maybe compared to ryan, shane really is just privy with his personal life? (also ryan isn't even one of shane's groomsman]
i don't wanna look deep into their relationship because they're real people but yaknow
shane was not ryan's best man but the fact that ryan wasn't in his wedding should nottt stick out to you as support for shane not reciprocating ryan's feelings or whatever. ryan had ten people up with him at his wedding and shane had four. ryan's wedding was a lot bigger than shane's and there are so many other factors that go into choosing those people that ryan not being in it cannot possibly be a statement that he doesn't care about him the same.
you're definitely right at the end tho shane is more private with his personal life. and they are real people with a private friendship as well as their public one and we have no way of knowing what goes on there but i definitely Don't think theres any one-sidedness or uncertainty or unevenness about where they stand with each other.

PART 18
of the dfk audiobook translation
@cnka
Bökh: „Uh, Martina- Could you please stay with me for a moment?“
Matze: „Ciao!“
Bökh: „Ciao!“
Uli: „Thanks for the lemonade, Herr Bökh.“
Jo: „Bye!“
The door closes behind them.
Bökh: „Um… about your math's test… Um… it was only a 4.“
Martina: „…What?“
Bökh: „Minus.“
Martina: „But… I’ve never gotten a 4.“
Bökh: „It’s not your fault either, you’re just behind a certain bit. I'm offering to study with you in the holidays. So you can pass the admission test.“
Martina: „…“
Martina nods.
Bökh: „Ok? Yeah?“
Martina: „…Could I use your telephone please?“
Bökh: „Yes, of course. Back there.“
Martina: „Thank you. I’d have to call home.“
Bökh: „Ok. Can you remind your mother about the money for the car hood?“
Narrator (audiobook):
Martina nods hesitantly.
When she calls home, she only reaches Oskar, who is sitting alone at the dinner table once again.
(telephone ringing)
Oskar: „Hello?“
Martina: „…It’s me!“
Oskar: „Martina?! You know what, I found my worm! And now he’s at home with us! And I’ll take him to our vacation so you’ll see him too!“
Martina: „…Oskar… I need to stay here. For the entire holidays. I need to prepare for the test.“
Oskar: „…What? You’re not coming to vacation? But- but you promised we’d go on vacation together.“
Martina: „I know. But I need to pass the test first.“
Oskar: „You- you could study here. You and Mama always said, a promise is a promise.“
Martina: „No. I can’t do this alone.“
Oskar: „You know what?! Just stay in your shitty Kirchberg, I can do this without you, I hate you!“
Oskar hangs up the phone with a slam.
SCENE CHANGE
Narrator (audiobook):
Later in the evening, Jo and Martina are in their room, and she is sitting on her bed sadly.
Jo is drawing. She looks up.
Martina: (sniffles quietly)
Jo: „…Are you okay?“
Martina: „Yeah, yeah.“
Narrator (audiobook):
Jo sits down next to her friend.
Jo: „Do you know why this film is so important to me?“
Martina shakes her head.
Jo: „I want to send it to my mother. I thought she’d come to the performance, but… the whole thing is off.“
Martina: „…“
Jo: „My foster parents will come to the closing party. …But they’re booked out the entire summer… Hm. That’s it for my holidays.“
Martina: „Why do you have foster parents, by the way?“
Jo: „When I was five… my mother abandoned me in a disco. Afterwards, she went into hiding for years. A while ago, my foster parents found her in Brazil.“
Jo: „… I was really happy.“
Jo: „… But we won’t see each other. She can’t make it.“
Martina: „I’m sorry.“

Bot sure if i sent this before *but* what do you think about the role fashion plays in kpop currently. I watched a video comapring new groups to older groups in the sense that older groups had more of a cohesive identity when brand deals and High fashion didnt play as big of a role in performances. I tend to agree. Lots of new groups wear the same few fashion pieces in different ways but its become “oh i saw x wearing this too!” Instead of themed outfits that matched with concepts.
i did actually write a post about my opinions on luxury branding a while ago that i can't for the life of me find again, but basically yes to all of that. most current kpop stylists are actually very bad at their jobs from a design point of view. luxury and designer branding is very commonly used shorthand for 'look this is good because it's expensive!' without any thought on 1) the holistic design of the cb itself, and 2) what the connotations of branding has on that cb. the best working stylist in kpop atm is a.c.e's stylist, who works on a budget of like $50 and whatever she can find in the beat int closet, so therefore her creativity is through the fucking ROOF. there's only one group where excessive luxury branding actually works in their favour and with their concept, and that's wayv, the reasons why i've talked about a lot already so i won't go into it again.
to elabourate a little bit more on what i think about it specifically though, i think when we talk about 'fashion' in kpop we're not actually seeing it used to it's fullest extent. i would never go so far to say that no stylists should ever use something from a designer or luxury brand, but none of these stylist are actually using the GOOD work from those designers and brands. the luxury styling that gets used in most kpop is the ready to wear commercial stuff, which just further feeds the capitalist machine and never fully realizes the artistic potential of the more haute couture or even just the more unusual brands. we've had some brushes with it, like when aron showed up in a gmbh shirt for a needle&bubble teaser photo, or like taemin popularizing loverboy, but imo it's not enough. i'll be happy when i start seeing idols in schiaparelli
