am i wrong to think they shouldn't be cancelled? imo i feel like fans are holding them accountable as they SHOULD be. i also dont think the triplets are the most educated but i dont think they are absolutely clueless. nick loves melanie martinez and she has been using her platform. if not all of them, nick at the least as some clue about whats happening. i also personally dont think they are seeing as much. i genuinely dont think they were aware of the boycott(this is absolutely not to be defending them, if they didnt know hopefully enough people comment and they become aware and stop supporting mcdonald's) but i truly havent seen information pop up on my feed anywhere BUT twitter. information i see on ig im seeking out on my own(snd i cant imagine the triplets doing that)and ive seen one or two tiktoks on my fyp. i truly dont think they are educated but that should change. its so easy to look up an article and read about it. but tbh i feel like they are going to sweep this under the rug and move on like they have done with almost everything else that has been "problematic" i hope they surprise me, its disappointing. i think so many people have taken this as an opportunity to make this into drama on twt and its why this fandom is so fucking toxic. making it about themselves instead of the ppl in palestine that have been suffering for this past month AND decades.

i 1000% agree with you. I should’ve worded it better, i myself don’t want them to be “cancelled” i love them (hence the blog dedicated to them) but none the less it’s still disappointing. and your right they will probably sweep this under the rug but i do hope the take away from this is to educate themselves and to also be sensitive about where their putting their money.

literally someone replied to the please don’t rec my work outside of tumblr post saying but the drivers already know that fanfic exists and I deleted that post so fast because it put a bad feeling in my stomach, but it all has to do with personal boundaries. yes, I want to share my work with the world, no I don’t want or need the subjects of that work to know about it.

the line between reality and fiction needs to be firmly put in place and maintained, and the delusion must stay contained.

i have a theory and it's kind of two parts but it revolves around the fact that jegulus is a relatively new ship (at least in popularity)

1. jegulus has not been popular for long and therefore there are less fics than other popular marauders fics (wolfstar) which makes people feral for jegulus content (which ofc does not justify this behavior)

2. jegulus got popular during covid/post tiktok blowing up both of which really reduced people's attention spans and i really think got so many people used to instant gratification/a never ending stream of content to consume

2a. because a lot of this happened on tiktok a lot of younger people engaged w fandom in a way we (older people) didn't at their age and they dont really grasp how fandoms usually function and expect to be catered to with the fics they read and think thats normal when it's just. not. at all.

no bc u literally covered so many of the points i've been thinking about like !!!

1. ok this is a new point that i have not considered in this specific way like just the relative lack of content compared to wolfstar leading to people really wanting more content...i definitely think this could be coming into play w people like. demanding writers write faster and stuff. gonna have to incorporate this into my pondering thank u for giving me another point to consider!!

2. yes one of the biggest things ive been thinking about is the way there was this explosion of jegulus popularity specifically via tiktok over 2021/2022 and i think people like....approaching fanfiction with like "tiktok mindset" leads to a whole host of problems which. i simply need to write an essay to encompass

2a. yeah i will say i don't necessarily think this is exclusively younger people although i do think there's sort of a generational gap just bc i think the common denominator is people who got into fanfiction via platforms like twitter and tiktok who interact w it as if it is Content for Consumption and not...like. art that people are making as a hobby. ive talked abt this a lot on my blog already lol but it truly is such an interesting phenomenon

2b. mmmmhmmm algorithmic social media is the root of much evil i fear 🤠 i think this is very true even outside of like. jegulus and fanfiction. we're all being brainwashed to expect catered algorithmic Content and i think it's eroding lots of people's ability to engage with things that make them uncomfortable or even just. things they don't like. we're all so comfortable in our feedback loops and it's bad for us!!!

Hi, my name is aurora, im 24, and i have a full time job sooo unfortunately frequent fic updates/posts aren’t a guarantee. but i do love to write, and i find the time to do it when i can! (yes, im single, thank u for asking). i can play a weird variety of instruments but not well. I rewatch glee every other month, and twilight every month. i can recite the entire first 20-30 mins of the emperor’s new groove from memory, and also most of yzma’s lines. i have a lot of love for satire and adult cartoons, meaning i will unironically defend south park (but my favorite adult cartoons are bob’s burgers, king of the hill, and futurama) my favorite color is pink, my favorite singers are Amy Winehouse & Taylor Swift (and i could write an entire essay on their lyrical geniuses, musical styles, and what songs of theirs i think go together perfectly). my favorite food is potatoes, my favorite animals are bears (specifically the spectacled bear), and my favorite flowers are pink japanese camellias. now you know the most intimate details of my personality. holy shit are you still reading. bro i just put this here because i thought it would be funny. i ddin’t even think someone would read this post. damn u must really wanna know abt me huh. ok well my favorite alcoholic drink is some goddamn jim beam bourbon or whiskey over a lot of ice. close second is jack and coke. i’m on antipsychotics so i can’t get drunk often, and when i do it’s after 2 drinks. i can’t take nyquil because it aggravates my mental issues. i am allergic to pollen, tree nuts, and literal spiders and mosquitoes (their bites give me rashes that look like im dying of some rare disease). i have 8 tattoos. i do 2000 crunches a day. i can hold a plank for 2 mins and 33 seconds. i find memes that are so funny to me on tumblr that i dont want to like "spoil" them by sending them to people because i think seeing them anywhere else besides this stupid website makes it less funny, its really really dumb but this site is literally the funniest social media space that i occupy. discord is predictable, twitter is a hellsite but in a bad way, and tiktok is the visual and sonic equivalent to pink mcdonalds nugget sludge. the shit i see here feels so real and visceral and authentic sometimes i think posting it anywhere else kinda devalues it a little. this is the only site that i use where all of the blogs ive come across are blogs that i had to find myself or found through a blog i follow, it really feels like this experience is my own and the site isnt trying to push shit on me like every other platform

every time i see something funny on here its never just air coming out of my nostril, like ive somehow managed to find people that have my exact humor to a tee and im in tears every time i see something that they post or reblog its AMAZING i really do love this site

With the new techno tiktok I’m seeing a lot of twt fans talking about mcyttiktok and how cringe and bad it is, and how techno won’t want to interact w them and what not and it’s just. Pretty funny, that they don’t realize they can be just as bad sometimes? Even if it’s in a different way. Like, techno is hardly ever on twitter anymore and I just, idk.

when it comes to which place is ‘worse’ in terms of mcyt fandom like.... theres so much lack of self awareness.

like. i personally will say tumblr here is the ‘best’ as a personal opinion. but im not gon say that theres not fucked up shit here too or ppl being wack. its just smaller here, AND its easier to tailor your own blog and dashboard according to what you Want to see and Dont want to see.

on other places like specifically twitter n tiktok. its HUGE. and a largely younger audience as theyre the New and Big platforms w cc’s on em so ppl will flock their whom are desperate or need the chance of attention/validation from ccs. AND for twitter at least its not a great platform for like. curating the content you see. so those all factor hugely into it being ‘worse’ in my mind.

but like. many times i see critique of other platforms or even the one theyre on.... yet no self awareness that They could even be a part of the issue.

but also i honestly have No clue of mcytiktok like i do not go over there nor see much of anything beyond sometimes like. ppl being wack in comments of female mcyters like hannah rose.

1. What is your character’s reaction to a minor inconvenience? Such as getting their jumper caught on a door handle?

Arch is one of those people that, say his shirt does get caught on something, just stops and stares at it for an unnecessary amount of time before letting out a big dramatic sigh.

14. Are they a simple person to please or difficult?

Simple. Extremely simple. Just ask him if he wants hang out, or go on a supply run. Honestly you could hand him a rock and he would cherish it forever. Talk to him? Literally anything, he craves interaction.

20. Does your character have a comfort item?

He has a little frog stuffed animal that he found for his first dog, Pup. It doesn't have any stuffing anymore and its missing both its eyes plus a leg. He keeps it on his nightstand.

22. What are their eating habits like? Do they snack throughout the day? Or do they eat sparsely?

Arch is a sparse eater. More focused on making sure his animals get everything they need to be well than he is himself. A lot of times he's so busy he just forgets, someone will remind him eventually. Most likely Fletcher.

28. If your character was in today’s world, what social media platforms would they avoid? Or be prominent on?

He would 110% have an animal/plant info ad reference blog on tumblr. Probably a YouTube channel and a tiktok (Definitely wears like a full plague doctor fit, people beg for a face reveal). I don't think he would really avoid any platforms i just dont think he'd care for them much? I might try Twitter and just forget about it.

29. Are they an organised person? Or more laissez-faire?

He can organize a bit, specially since the animals kind of depend on it. But thats the only reason he'll really do it for.

A New Wave of Beauty Influencers!

Welcome to article number 1 of my new series where my goal is to cast some light on new and upcoming beauty influencers. We all know that there are the same few LARGE beauty influencers that seemingly have taken over the beauty space. What if I told you that new and much better wave of influencers are on the rise?? Well, today in my first blog post, we are talking about Cody Jay! Cody Jay is an Ohio based professional makeup artist with such an incredible vibe. I had the opportunity to speak with him on a few topics and also got some input from him on the beauty community as a whole. When I say this man is a breath of fresh air, I mean it!! For starters, his approach of being a beacon of light, encouragement, love, and support is on another level. Through my own personal interactions and observations, I have seen Cody Jay constantly sharing other artists work, incorporating them into his youtube videos to help them get exposure, give up PR spots so others would have a chance to finally be on one, make videos exclusively to uplift other creators and artists, and most importantly I have have seen him use his platform for good. It’s rare to see someone with such a good head on their shoulders. Now if we are talking about work ethic.....man does he ever sleep?? Cody uses Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok, and Facebook to upload his content, engage with his audience, and create friendships and connections, Cody literally engages with EVERYONE, unlike most who ignore their fans. He has dubbed his supporters as Jaybabies because he says

“I never want my followers or supporters to think they are just a number. I call them Jaybabies so that they know they are special and mean the world to me. I wouldn't be where I am already without every single one of them.”

That’s enough for me to support him off of that statement alone! In addition to makeup, Cody Jay also has a passion for skin care. He regularly creates skin care content that is for every type of skin. He always makes sure that his content is inclusive and can be helpful to everyone. I think what will make Cody Jay a contendor for success in this saturated space, is his true passion and love for beauty and his naturally kind and supportive demeanor. Based on his actions, it’s clear to me that he wants everyone to succeeed and he already has showm that he ususes his platform to help others succeed.

When asked what his biggest accomplishment thus far was, this is what he had to say:

“Honestly i have had so many dreams and goals and to be honest, I have accomplished half of them in the last year. I have been working my absolute hardest and I try to make sure everything is done the right way. I have a few really big accomplishemnts so far. I would say my biggest accomplishents are being added as an affiliate for Makeup Geek because I love everything about the brand, as well as the owner, Marlena Stell. It’s a globally recognized brand and it still shocks me to see my face on their website haha. I’d also say that being able to monetize my Youtube channel was something i never thought i could do, so that was pretty exciting for me. And lastly, I would say that just having people tell me that my videos or content has helped them learn somthing, or feel better is the biggest accomplishment out of them all”

I applauded Cody Jay for his accomplishments and I believe they dont go unnoticed. I truly believe he is a force to be reckoned with. Towards the end of our interview, I asked Cody what his goals are for the next year as far as social media, Youtube, and overall growth. He had this to say:

“I have a ton of goals for the next year. I of course want to continue growing my platforms, because thats more people I get to connect with and ultimately become friends with. I would also like to join a few more PR lists for brands that i love because being able to be supported by those brands and also be one of the first people to review new products would be very helpful. I want to meet some more of my Jaybabies this year and would also like to collaborate with a brand on some type of limited edition version of a product. I dont know what kind of product that would be yet, but i think it would be amazing. And lastly, i REALLY want to figure out how to make my Youtube channel just become a huge hit. Im working very very hard on that, so i hope to make that happen soon.

My final question to Cody was, “ What are your thoughts on the beauty community as whole, and what changes would you like to see? His response was as followed :

“That’s actually a huge question hahah. For starters, i feel that the beauty community has lost sight of why they are there. There is so much drama and cancel culture is huge right now. It creates so much division, hate, and bad behavior. People need to get back to loving makeup, celebrating the art, and lifting up each other rather than tearing people down. Of course the problem isnt with everyone, it’s typically with larger influencers and then everyone gets super opinionated and they start going after eachother, it’s truly sad to see. I would like to see everyone learn to love eachother again, support eachother, be happy and kind, remember that the beauty community is supposed to be a BEAUTIFUL place, and i REALLY would like to see SO MANY more smaller creators be given the sptlight. It would be life changing to have these larger influencers or brands use their audience to help smaller deserving artists grow. Look at my friend Marly (LVNDRBEAUTY) for example. She was given a gift from a large influencer and she took that gift and turned it into a HUGE empire in a matter of months. Shes thriving right now with her own business and it literally changed her life. We need more of that.”

At 26 do i count as fandom old yet lmao ? Maybe not. but i saw a post (as usual) and a lot of people were like "as a fandom old, fandom used to mean more than Just Shipping and making wild aus that have nothing to do with the source material. We used to analyze and engage with the themes of the work"

And im here like? Um? Well. I can't relate on the shipping part of things, from my perspective shipping has always been a huge part of things. (Also, shipping does Not prevent you from also analyzing stuff. Um.)

Now I'm not fully sure but.. maybe it does seem like more stuff nowadays gets farther removed from canon, quicker? Or at least, Zany Aus used to be a little fewer/farther in between or at least take longer for the fandom to develop.

I have totally ancedotal theories about this

1. Fandom has become more normalized/mainstream and thus has more people in it. The more people, the more already popular things get even more popular. Shipping has always been comparatively more popular than other aspects of fandom, so its getting even more popular.

2. Not to mention, the platforms themselves (twitter tumblr tiktok) DO emphasize quick, easy-to-judge posts and materials, for fast sharing. that doest lend as well to long analysis posts and people dont usually expect to read long posts on social media. That does kinda suck! I actually quite like analysis! but, analysis isnt dead or anything (and if you, dear person reading this, want there to be more analysis.. nothing is stopping you from posting analysis, or sending asks to blogs that post about topics you like! Be the analyst you want to see in fandom!). It would be nice to have fandom space that looked a little different, but, alas.

3. As well, weird and Zany aus with totally different personalities or swaps or odd things have also always been a thing. If we are seeing more of these in new fandoms (idk tbh im not in any new fandoms? So i dont kno?) I think it miiiiiight have something to do with how shows are being released? Maybe?

In my experience, Weird Aus were often a thing that happened during hiatuses, after a show (or whatever) had completed at least one whole season of content over a few months, and needed to take a pause. The fandom didnt want to let hype die down, thus, things got Weird. But now we get everything all at once and we also go into a Hiatus right away, so maaaaaybe people are just skipping straight to it? They get thru the content so fast that there is less stopping to think? Idk.

But, yeah, the fandom i see the most Random Unrelated AUs with totally OOC characters is actually stucky (no hate! I also see a ton of really good quality fics with intriguing and bang on characterization) and that might be because its one of 2 fandom tags i actually follow, but aside from that it sense to me, because it's a very old fandom, has tons of content so of course some of it is gonna be, yknow, only okay, AND its got 2 very hot men that people yeah might just want to project onto (even if they change their entire personalities to do so.)

For the record ... even complete personality swap type aus CAN be well done, and draw on the source material heavily. They can also be shallow as fuck. But it's fully possible the author took time and dedicated much care into creating the circumstances that changed the characters so much while also keeping the themes of the source material. Maybe you still dont want to give the fic a chance and maybe it is actually shit, but....... you really dont know what the fic contains just from tags, and some fic writers are genuinely amazing at bringing together things that one would think wont work. Just saying!!
