“do you think we’re together in another universe?”
miles asks, genuine curiosity in his voice.
he was on his back while you were on his chest. the two of you were supposed to be sleeping but miles kept you awake with this elaborate question.
“i dunno miles. what do you think?”
you ask, trying to end the conversation.
but when the words left your mouth—you realized you may have just inclined him for another hour of his rambling.
he’s silent for a moment. it’s obvious miles is taking his sweet time thinking about an answer.
with all the spider-verse shit happening, he really doesn’t know.
maybe there was a universe were you weren’t together but sworn enemies, maybe there was a universe where you two had a romeo and juilet type of love story.
the possibilities are endless.
so—what’s the answer?
“i’d like to think so.”
“really?”
“yeah. i can’t imagine a universe where i’m not putting all my time into you. where..”
miles trails off for a moment, dragging the ‘where,’ in his sentence.
you look up to face him, but he’s still looking up at the ceiling.
“where?”
you ask, trying make him continue his sentence.
miles finally looks down at you with a smile.
that same lovesick smile he always does.
“where i’m not in love with you. like i know that’s a little corny—but it’s the truth! i swear on my momma—“
he cuts himself off with a laugh, throwing his head back.
you chuckle at the sight of him, it’s been awhile since you’ve seen him this happy.
you lean in closer to him, kissing him on the cheek.
“can’t say that i can imagine one either.”
you say, going back to your previous spot on his chest.
miles sits up, staring at you with wide eyes as you look back up at him.
“what the fu-“
“really? you can’t?”
he pressed for more answers, with a grin on his face.
you could feel his excitement, and you gotta admit—seeing him so happy made you smile a little.
you nod your head, making an ‘mhm,’ sound to confirm.
somehow—miles’ grin gets wider.
he wraps his arms around your waist, pulling you closer.
“yeah?”
“yeah.”
