ch 5 is so good in showing crimeboys' opinions of each other through how that changes in this chapter

wilbur judges tommy with the standards he and niki with q, the throne candidates, were held up too and its frustrating to him that tommy can act more childish and still be considered at the heir

and its not that wilbur doesnt know, that tommy is unaware of the reason of his stay in pandorinne, to me it seems like hes almost looking for a reason to be critical of tommy (not that tommy makes that hard) bc niki (and he) and even quackity have been working hard to be good candidates for the throne and now tommy gets to just join in

also tommy insulting wilbur and phil forcing wil to spend more time with him isnt helping that

what wilbur fails to realise, that while tommy is still royalty, the manners standards arent the only different thing about tommys upbringing

as could be seen at the market, but even before, with tubbo, jack and even puffy, tommy is much less detached from servants and other people in the kingdom, where the people in the castle, while not necessarily evil, are very secluded in the castle and detached from the common people, even tho many make important decisions about their lives

and we get to see tommy disprove this prejudice in wilbur

and wilbur also learns that tommy isnt completely stupid in terms of strategy

now what is more interesting to me is how tommy sees wilbur

taking it from the start, while tommy recognises that wilbur doesnt like him all too much, for tommy hes the first new person he talks with in a less formal setting, wilbur doesnt scold him for cursing and generally they managed to have a chill pretty casual conversation before wilbur got pissy about tommy insulting him

and even after that wilbur will slip into banter with tommy (I love their urge to keep insulting each other lol), tommy doesnt know wilbur is kinda being forced to hang out with him on all the occasions they do so he quickly becomes a familiar person

theres never any punishment for what he says to wilbur, apart from wilbur himself and even niki encourages his making fun of wilbur

also I dont think tommy really realises the status imbalance between them

they did have the talk about wilbur not official having any status, but tommy doesnt see himself as anything more than wilbur

so to tommy wilbur is a stuck up guy who acts like the adults in criticising basically everything tommy does, but also he will go and insult tommy back and he keeps spending time with him (unknowingly to tommy very unwillingly) so I dont think tommy actually hates wilbur, he just enjoys making fun of him and knows he can afford it

as someone who spends a lot of time with boys rose!tommys age (scouting, also its not like im that much older) i adore how accurately he acts

any touristic tips if I want to visit pandorinne?

I love the city so much, the canals system sounds super sick and I absolutely adore markets they just have such a cool atmosphere

yeah the thing is wilbur understands that it's not exactly tommy's fault he's acting the way he is, because he isn't even aware of the position he's in. but it's still frustrating to witness. it's frustrating to listen to sam and phil both consider tommy a viable heir when tommy isn't even trying to get their approval, unlike what quackity and niki have gone through their entire childhoods.

but yes what's more interesting is the difference in upbringing between the pandorinne trio (quackity niki wilbur) and tommy. although valbroek is a fairly wealthy city and tommy still lived a very lavish noble lifestyle, he had a lot more freedom there than he has in pandorinne. he was able to go out on his own and interact with the people of his city. he's seen their struggles firsthand. his people aren't just theoreticals to him, they all have faces. which contrasts with quackity, niki, and wilbur who were rarely allowed to leave the palace without armed escorts growing up. and along with that, while tommy goofs off, he's not completely stupid when it comes to strategy. he's just untrained.

meanwhile, yes, tommy can definitely recognize that wilbur doesn't like him all that much but he thinks it's more of a game than it actually is. he thinks that the bickering is something they both enjoy. while he obviously knows his relationship with wilbur is nothing like his relationship with tubbo, there's the familiarity of a friendship where the two of you just insult each other all the time and pretend you can't stand each other when you're actually close. and the fact that wilbur keeps playing into the bickering, and there's never any punishment for what he says to wilbur like you pointed out, only affirms this belief.

not only does tommy not see himself as better than wilbur, he actually looks up to wilbur. it's not obvious and he's not even that aware of it himself, but wilbur is the son of the Consil. he's older than tommy and seems to know so much about what's going on in the palace, but he's less intimidating than niki and quackity since they're the potential heirs. tommy would rather die than admit it, but yknow when you have a 12-13 year old who interacts with a 17-18 year old and they think the older teen is so cool? yeah, that's tommy with wilbur.

lol I'm glad tommy is an accurate 13 year old boy. I did no research for how to write 13 year old boys I'm just going off of how tommy acted in the early days of dsmp along with my own distant memories of being in middle school

I'm glad you like the city!! Hmm tourist tips for Pandorinne... well the Lavender Market is one of the best parts of the city, as Wilbur told Tommy in that chapter. Canals are mainly used for the transport of goods and supplies, but later in the evenings you might find a man with a small boat willing to give you a scenic ride, if you have the right coin of course. There's also a few temples dedicated to the different gods littered throughout the city, which are always worth visiting to get a blessing or two. And make sure to go down to the docks directly to get fish so fresh it's practically still blinking! Of course, you can't miss the cookshops. If you bring your own meat or fish, they'll cook it up for you for a fraction of the cost you'd pay if you didn't provide they ingredients. They can even bake it in some pastry dough for a savory pie if you request it! Wealthier nobles tend to avoid cookshops though, since there's not a lot of heavy regulation on food distribution in the city...

I have no where else to talk about this bcs i'm too terrified to post abt the dsmp after the whole dream thing. I don't support him and want nothing to do with him but my love for the story surrounding wilbur and tommys characters is so immense it makes me really sad that i cant talk about them online anymore bcs everyone seems to be dropping the dsmp, even if i have to argue that it can be separated from the dude its named after. Lmanburg means the world to me, and c!wilbur means a lot to me for a lot of reasons. I guess im just very upset about the events that have ensued lately, i miss the dsmp

i thought a bit about whether i wanted to respond to this or not but i have seen so many concerns just like yours that i feel the need to state outright: just because the dream smp bears his name does NOT mean it is all his, nor does it mean anything to do with the smp has to be “tainted” by his association with it.

c!wilbur is one of my favorite characters of all time, he means a lot to me and just like you i find a lot of joy in the stories he told on the dream smp. the best part about all that? it was WILBUR who did that. WILBUR is the reason why c!wilbur was amazing, and TOMMY was the reason c!tommy was amazing, and so on for everyone else on the server. it feels like a disservice to all the hard work so many people put into their characters and their storylines to allow one guy to ruin all of that. WILBUR wrote those scripts, WILBUR wrote that character, WILBUR poured his heart and soul and energy into creating an amazing story for us, and NOTHING and NOBODY can change that. it was he who made his own story amazing (and this applies just the same to c!tommy and all the other people on the smp who worked so hard)

furthermore, and firesnap spoke beautifully about this already, i’m BEGGING you to listen to your OWN instincts about this entire thing. what do YOU think is right? what feels right to you? what makes sense to you? the people who are choosing to no longer engage with the dsmp whatsoever are entirely valid to feel however they feel which led them to make that decision, but you would be just as valid to come to a different conclusion. as long as you are thinking critically, you’re on the right track. there is no Right reaction to all this. you can refuse to watch anything to do with it from now on, you can just engage with past lore, you can watch the vods, you can watch live but leave when dream appears, or you can watch the entire thing live (and though i would not personally recommend doing so, my word is not god and my morals are not Your morals!!) you can do whatever feels appropriate to You.

life is not as simple as “someone i loved turned out to be someone i no longer want to associate with, therefore i will cut ties with them and everyone they knew or anyone they work with and i will no longer have any positive feelings about any impacts theyve had on my life or any of the things they or anyone they associate with have created.” this is an unfair expectation to put on yourself or anybody!

don’t punish yourself for feeling however you feel. you don’t need to feel guilty for still being attached to the dsmp — hell, i’m going to be candid and say that c!dream is one of my favorite villains ever, and while i really enjoyed watching and talking about his character, because of this situation i no longer feel comfortable publicly enthusing about that character. this doesn’t change that i really enjoyed the character, that i STILL think it was a great character, despite having difficult feelings toward its actor/creator. you are allowed to FEEL, FEELING is not endorsement, and as long as you think critically about how you engage in fandom, however you are doing so is probably just fine

understand that nothing about this is black and white, that you are allowed to have opinions and feelings that are different from your peers, and that if the idea of one man changing your perception of other people’s creative work simply by association feels wrong, then you don’t have to let it

(I'm just so intrigued by Tommy's whole deal in this story.)

Thank you for your ask! I have a lot of Tommy thoughts, so this is going to be split into (a) what's going on in the passage, (b) my headcanons for the Hagan family dynamics, and (c) additional history involving Tommy's older brother Robbie and other characters. I'm not sure how much of this is actually going to get into the story proper, since some of this is stuff I originally thought of for other stories and general headcanons, plus Nancy's view of all of this is pretty limited.

Discussion of Tommy's canon fucked-up behavior, a suicide attempt (the one already referenced in Tonight, Tonight), physical and emotional sibling abuse, bullying, homophobia, and attempted sexual assault.

The Passage

It took Nancy a moment to realize what they were talking about. (The bourbon didn’t help.) Then she remembered the horrible thing Tommy had said back when Will had disappeared, and even a couple of times after he’d died. The last time, he’d made the mistake of saying it within earshot of a teacher, who had berated him within an inch of his life for making up such a cruel rumor.

This is a reference to Tommy's sick joke about Jonathan killing Will. I don't think Tommy particularly has it in for Jonathan as a person. First of all, he wasn't thinking of Jonathan as a real person. Second, Tommy strikes me as someone who says dark or shocking shit because that's his contribution to the group. He's not as good-looking or as much of a star athlete as Steve, but he's tougher, smarter, meaner. He doesn't ever try to beat Steve at his own game--the most he'll do is gravitate to Billy--but he'll do and say sneaky things to undermine him or get him in trouble.

(Tommy's still loyal to Steve in this universe, or at least loyal to him over Billy, who's more subtle in his bullying of Steve because his reputation is more solid. Tommy also has some other stuff going on that’s causing him to reconsider his worldview, as discussed below.)

“If Jonathan Byers heard you and decked you right now,” the teacher had hissed at Tommy, “I would swear in a court of law that he hadn’t. You vile little shit.”

Hawkins is shitty enough that Tommy feels emboldened to make his horrible joke where a teacher can hear, but at least one adult is shocked. Her approach is still essentially to let the kids sort it out themselves, of course. Jonathan's pretty much on his own.

Which, of course, wasn’t how teachers were supposed to speak to students, but Tommy, for all his faults, had his own sense of fair play. He’d only whined about it to Steve and Carol, whose reactions had been, respectively, “man, I told you not to say that shit, that’s messed up” and “yeah, we know it’s a joke, but obviously some ex-hippie teacher who still listens to John Denver is gonna hate that shit, what did you expect.” (Nancy had been present for these conversations, but too busy going over all the terrible things that could have happened to Barb to offer a response.) Then Tommy had dropped the subject.

Tommy's also going to handle things himself, like the under-supervised Gen X kid he is. Steve remains squeamish about the child murder joke and, while it doesn't shock Carol, she doesn't have Tommy's attention-seeking tendencies.

(Jonathan actually did hear the "joke," but he had so much bad shit going on that he was kind of like "yeah, seems like the kind of blood-curdlingly cruel thing Tommy Hagan would say." Ironically, Steve's dismissive "that's depressing" bothered him more, because Steve wasn't trying to be shocking; that was a thoughtless expression of the town's opinion on his family.)

But, it turned out, he hadn’t forgotten it.

“Yeah, yeah,” Tommy said, staring at the carpet. “I know. Obviously Byers had a lot of reasons to check out early. I don’t know if he even heard that shit I said. Just…I don’t know, it’s too weird. One second, you’re going to school with a guy. Then he ends up in Pennhurst and you’re looking at his blood at the floor.”

It got a little too real for Tommy! Not so much because he thinks he's a major cause of Jonathan's suicide attempt (in reality the culmination of months of unresolved guilt and grief, plus despair at having to live with Lonnie, plus just not thinking clearly due to exhaustion and malnutrition), but because he thought for the first time what it'd be like to be Jonathan—a human being, not an unfeeling repository for rumors—and hear that comment.

2. The Hagan Family

Tommy is also experiencing some changes in his family life that are causing him to question certain things. His siblings, twins Robbie and Marianne, are two years his senior. His mother vastly, overtly prefers Robbie to her other children. In Mrs. Hagan's eyes, Marianne is an annoying, negative whiner who's jealous of Robbie and Tommy is just Robbie's younger brother who looks up to him So Much. (Mr. Hagan is kind of checked out, thanks to serious chronic pain issues that nobody really understands.) Robbie was universally hailed as an Ideal Boy during his time at Hawkins High, too. He looks like Rob Lowe, he was a star athlete who's still playing basketball for IU, and every subsequent popular boy is kind of compared unfavorably to him. Steve absolutely adores Robbie, who used to pontificate about girls and sports and life to him and Tommy, and he has a whole thing about how he'll never be as smart or as great at basketball as him. Jason has prayed a great deal on his unChristian envy of Robbie. And Billy has too much persona to admit it, but one time he overheard someone call him a "white-trash Robbie Hagan" and it really hurt his feelings.

At home, though, Robbie frequently bullied both Marianne and Tommy. With Marianne, it was obvious and ugly: constantly tearing her down verbally, ruining her things, sabotaging her schoolwork, even cutting off her ponytail after she yelled at him for leaving her to do all the chores. With Tommy, it was more plausibly deniable: playing very rough with him when they were younger, putting him in dangerous and even potentially fatal situations as a joke, cruelly mocking his masculinity to control his behavior or just to knock him down a peg. Marianne complained and was demonized by their mother, while Tommy sort of accepted this treatment as his due and viewed his relationship with Robbie as normal and positive.

Then Robbie left home to attend IU on a basketball scholarship. Marianne, the un-favorite and a girl to boot, got into college and received a pretty decent scholarship, but her parents refused to pay the rest so she's stuck living at home and attending community college for a couple years. Mrs. Hagan has been pretty down in the dumps since Robbie left for school, bemoaning that it's just not the same with only Marianne and Tommy around. Tommy finds these remarks increasingly dispiriting. Like, yeah, he misses Robbie, too, but he's not nothing, right? He's also come to realize that he has more room to breathe without Robbie constantly picking at him and sucking up all the air in the room. He's even started to see Marianne in a new light. Previously annoyed with her hostility towards Robbie and willing to join in on Robbie's bullying of her, he's coming to appreciate how difficult her life has been in their house and how little she's really held his allegiance with Robbie against him. She's still somewhat wary of him, but she gets why he did what he did and they've started to bond a little bit. He knows she's going to be leaving home in about a year, too, and finds himself feeling bummed out about it.

Finally, there was an incident at the Hagan family's 1984 Fourth of July barbeque that cemented his changing feelings towards his family. Which brings us to...

3. Robbie, Carol, and Jonathan

This is where the homophobia and attempted sexual assault come in. I'm going to put a caveat that I thought of this part before changing Jonathan's situation to be one of sexual exploitation, and now I feel like there might be a lot of sexual assault for a story that's not centrally about that. However: this was always a story about people, especially young people, being isolated and falling through the cracks in society, and rape culture very much ties into that. Also, I tried not to make it sensationalistic at any point.

So, Robbie has a certain kind of nebulous reputation among the girls (popular, pretty, around his age) that people expect him to sleep with. He's not violent or threatening, but he's a player and he always gives the impression that the girl has lost some contest with him by "giving in." It's subtle--he's not going "I don't respect you anymore because you had sex with me"--but even girls who went in with the attitude of "I want to have sex with Robbie Hagan because he's hot and have no expectation of a relationship" end up feeling kind of slimed on. He also has sexual relationships with girls whom he refuses to acknowledge in public--less popular, more insecure, slightly younger girls, mostly--and he's more devious and pushy with them. And he has ventured into even more sinister territory on a couple of occasions, once with Jonathan and once with Carol.

The incident with Jonathan happens in the summer of 1982, when Jonathan is a rising freshman working under the table at the Hawk and Robbie is a rising senior. Robbie finds him alone cleaning up the cinema and repeatedly asks him for a handjob. Another employee walks into the cinema before things can escalate, but, due to Robbie's superior age/strength and the isolated location, the situation is pretty volatile and frightening. Jonathan is basically like "well, nothing happened, ultimately, so I'm just never going to deal with that." But after Will's "death"--which appears to have been brought about partially by someone trying to run him off the road--Jonathan, especially in dreams, starts to mull over a bunch of rough shit that he went through, because he wanted to protect Will from going through that stuff (whether that meant Lonnie's bullshit or scarier bullying from older kids or the effects of poverty) and feels that he failed.

Tommy doesn't know about this incident, but Robbie--pretty confident that poor, crazy Joyce Byers's weird, possibly queer kid isn't going to tell anyone and that it would backfire on him if he tried--nevertheless makes a preemptive strike and makes sure to tell Tommy to watch out for that Byers kid, because he's a queer and you never know what they'll do. This isn't the first or last rumor of this kind about Jonathan, but it doesn't exactly make his life easier, either.

With Carol, Robbie came home from college in the summer of 1984 and attended his family's Fourth of July barbecue. Carol, Tommy's girlfriend since middle school, is invited. Robbie thinks she looks good, he feels entitled to her attention, and he's already in a resentful mood due to some family stuff (Tommy is glad to see him but not exactly worshipful, Marianne has come out of her shell which he interprets as being "full of herself," and Mrs. Hagan is falling all over him). So he tries to get his hand up Carol's shirt while her hands are full with some casserole dish. Unfortunately for him, Carol is not as scared or awed as most of the younger people he approaches, so she screams at him and dumps a terrifyingly Midwestern salad all over his ass. The rest of the Hagans come running, and the fallout is tremendous. Tommy isn't in a place where he can confront Robbie too directly, but he sides with Carol and takes her back to her house, where she tells her mom about it and they all end up having Fourth of July lunch together. Marianne knows Robbie's bad news and sides with Carol, too. Mrs. Hagan is livid, calling Carol a liar and a slut and her two other children ungrateful traitors. Mrs. Perkins (Carol's mom) calls to give Mrs. Hagan a piece of her mind.

In the end, it doesn't go beyond the two families. (Even Steve doesn't know.) Carol is assertive but even she can't deal with being the girl who tried to stir up shit between golden boy Robbie and his own brother. Her folks are furious on her behalf but are realistic and agree that it would play out that way. Mrs. Hagan gives Carol the cold shoulder but doesn't want to push things with her folks, or even acknowledge that Tommy has real reason to resent his brother. Marianne ends up absorbing most of her frustration, and she's just like, "Yeah, that's what I thought you'd do, you horrible fucking woman." Meanwhile Robbie's sulking because he's tired of all the drama that he caused.

This is obviously pretty elaborate for a couple of minor characters in this fanfic and I don't know how much this is going to show up in the story, but it kind of percolated in the back of my mind of its own accord.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

I didn’t not like it narratively, but I didn’t particularly enjoy the whole arc of trying to get Linda and Arthur back together :/ I did appreciate it in a “fellas we are never breaking the cycle” way, but it kinda drove a wedge between me and my enjoyment of Arthur’s boyfailure arc at some points. Linda kinda reminds me of my adorable little WASP-y mom so seeing her threatened and upset because a man will do anything but go to therapy……eugh, hard watch.

13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character?

Alfie - this is gonna maybe be a bit controversial (or not? idk it took a while for me to wrap my noggin around the vibes) but……I don’t think Alf is all that religious? He is very very involved in his community and seems to be a well respected member of Jewish society in Camden Town, but idk how much he really practices in his day-to-day. I could be entirely wrong (would be happy for a Jewish PB fan to correct me if I am, and honestly I much prefer the headcanons that imply it matters a bit to him because as you’re about to see….I love cultural exchange) but Alfie’s irreverence and self-deification don’t really come across as terribly devout to me. If you consider the non-TV works to be canon, he definitely seems to be of the impression that nothing really matters beyond the carnal. He does seem to believe in a God, but that God’s existence isn’t really consequential to him. So I think his Jewish identity is more forged in community than shared reverence! I can relate, in a way; I never practiced Catholicism, but because my entire dad’s side did and I grew up in a highly Catholic neighborhood, it impacts how I interact with the world. So that’s how I kinda see it: it’s not the religion that he practices, but more the identity of someone raised with the religion.

I also wanna doooooo……..

Polly - she wasn’t always a wise, rational woman throughout the show. There were plenty of times she acted out of anger, fear, stubbornness… and while I do love that we kinda treat her as our voice of reason, she’s still as flawed as the rest of them. I feel like I’ve seen a lot of fics fall into the idea that Polly knows everything. It makes for a good story driver, but I feel like that unfortunately just doesn’t encompass who Polly is as a person. I don’t wanna ramble super long AGAIN but I think a lot of her interactions with/about Michael kinda demonstrate that. She’s easily blinded by her fear of loss in particular, and in a way it’s very similar to Tommy’s motivations. I think that’s part of why they butt heads sometimes. I’d like to explore that more myself!

14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

Oooh boy, this one is kinda tough to say. But I think we have a looooong way to go as a fandom in terms of cultural sensitivity. I know we’re working with source material that already has a pretty problematic and shallow way of going about Romani characters, but I think it’s our duty as fans to sorta….grapple with that a bit? Address it with nuance? Or at least listen to POC, particularly Romani, creators who take issue with the things done in the show and in fan content. There are SO many aspects of the show itself that play into racist stereotypes about Romani people, and I’ve seen a number of tropes and fic concepts that revolve around those stereotypes in particularly shocking ways (for example, maybe don’t have “sold to the Shelby family” or “magical g**** fortune teller” as a plot point??? Many levels of inappropriate to that). I do largely give people the benefit of the doubt because I know that not everyone knows what to look out for, especially if they themselves are not targeted personally by bigotry in their communities, and fewer people know where to go to figure that out…. but I feel like specifically Romanichal culture is a strong enough theme in the show to warrant SOME promotion of cultural research. Of course we all have work to do (I’m no exception, and I wholeheartedly welcome concrit if anything in the story seems off) but I feel like some people really lean into exoticism and stereotypes without any unpacking of why they’re doing it. And, when other people express discomfort, I’ve seen more than once the sort of response that sums up to “well so-and-so said it’s not a slur/bad trope/stereotype so I’m gonna keep using it”. Thankfully it’s less prevalent here on tumblr but it’s still a problem! Let’s rid ourselves of the idea that any one culture is a monolith! Cultural exchange and education are exciting! Decolonize your writing! Respect and an open mind go a long way!

Because I Want It All

Part One

Based on this post I made earlier, about an alternate season 2 with Steve being the new kid instead of Billy

Billy’s leaning against the Camaro, smoking a cigarette and shooting the shit with Tommy. He watches Max roll over to the middle school and greet the dorks that she for some reason he’ll never understand, chooses to spend her time with. Tommy’s going on about something that Carol said on the way to school that he took personal offence to, but Billy stops listening as a car he’s never seen before rolls into the parking lot.

Dancing in the Dark blares from the speakers, and Billy isn’t the only one who’s head is turned, watching as the driver parks and exits the vehicle, slinging a new looking backpack over his shoulder. Billy drinks in the sight of the new kid, from his floppy brown hair cresting on his forehead like a wave to his sparkling white Nikes, and everything in between. He’s got on dark sunglasses, and a grey bomber jacket with a striped polo peeking out from under it. His long legs, encased in tight blue denim, make quick work of the distance between the parking lot and the school.

Billy has to fight the urge to run after him and introduce himself. He’s too cool to act that interested. Plus, he’s sure it won’t be long before the rampant gossips of Hawkins High deliver the other boy’s name to him. He stubs out his cigarette and grabs his own bag from the top of the car, leaving Tommy to try to catch up as he heads for the building himself.

It only takes Steve one look to determine who the king of Hawkins High is. He sees him leaning against a blue Camaro, one leg crossed over the other, smoking a cigarette, looking utterly above it all while a shorter redheaded guy talks to him, gesturing wildly, clearly worked up about something. From the way the taller boy is barely sparing him a glance, Steve can tell he’s his lacky. The taller boy, a curly haired blond, has on aviators and a denim jacket with the collar popped. Steve can feel his eyes following him, even from behind his sunglasses, and he can’t say he isn’t flattered.

He walks to the school feeling a little bit more confident that this place won’t be as much of a shithole as he thought it would be when his parents announced that they were uprooting his entire life in San Diego and moving him to Hawkins for his father’s job. He’d begged them to let him stay behind, pointing out that they were never home anyway, but they didn’t go for it, so here he is.

He enters the school, which is much smaller than his old one back home and finds someone to point him in the direction of the office. He finds it, and after a few minutes wait, he meets with the principal, who welcomes him to the school, handing him his timetable and a list of different sports teams that he can try out for.

He’s then introduced to a student aide, Nancy Wheeler. She’s been assigned to show him around the school for the first few days, to make sure he feels comfortable and welcome at his new school. She’s gorgeous, if a little straitlaced looking. She has on a long skirt with a blouse tucked into it, a cardigan overtop. She’s softspoken, but not shy with her opinions, and she’s easy to talk to, even if half of what she says goes over his head. Steve’s immediately taken with her.

Billy’s pleased to see that the new kid is in his fourth class of the day, English. Not only that, but he also sits right behind Billy, as his last name is Harrington. If they become friends, Billy will have someone to pass notes with besides Tommy. Finally. Steve Harrington is his full name, Billy quickly learns, when the teacher forces him to stand in front of the class and introduce himself. He’s from California, San Diego to be exact, and he’s moved here to finish up his senior year. He likes surfing and basketball, which Billy loves. He likes the guy already.

Billy quickly pulls a flyer for Tina’s upcoming Halloween party and flips it over, scribbling on the back. Hey, I’m Billy. Are you going to try out for basketball? Also, you should come on Friday night. He draws a little arrow pointing from his message to the front of the poster, hoping the other boy will get the hint. He folds it up and passes it back.

Steve clearly does get the hint, because instead of handing the flyer back to Billy with his response on it, he hands him a folded sheet of lined paper. Hey Billy, it’s nice to meet you. I’m definitely going to try out for the basketball team. I was the captain of my team back home. I’m also down for Friday. Can I bring a date? I’m thinking of asking Nancy Wheeler. Do you know her?

Billy opens the note and wrinkles his nose at the sight of Nancy Wheeler’s name, glad that Steve can’t see him. He hates that prissy little bitch with her holier than though attitude. Billy’s got better grades than her, but just because he’s not a rich kiss ass, she and her friends act too good for him. Billy only interacts with her when they’re coordinating the pickup and drop off of their siblings, who’re friends. Billy figures it’s only a matter of time before her brother, Mike, decides he’s too good for Max, but for now, they’re attached at the hip, along with three other boys they go to school with.

Billy decides he’s not going to let the Steve and Nancy situation get him down. Besides his questionable taste in women, he seems like an alright guy, or at least a better option than Tommy, and he seems like he’ll be a great addition to the basketball team. He passes the note back to Steve, grinning as he drops it on his desk. See you on the basketball court tomorrow at 3. And the more the merrier on Friday. Look out for the Terminator when you get there.

yea i do love some distinctly tragic hurt/comfort so that tracks. it can't be unilaterally comforting it has to still be extremely fucking sad

the "x character needs a hug" tag being present in basically All of my fics where relevant is actually a very long running and not massively funny joke with myself from when i very first started publishing my dsmp fics and people would say the tag was too silly. not too silly for me those guys need hugs

5. What do you wish someone would ask you about (cause most of us are bitter)? Answer it now!

okay this took a minute to think of... i love questions/talking about limited pov in my fics and it is very present in bitter!! so here's a question: what was going through wilbur's head in cause most of us are bitter over someone (because niki had absolutely no idea)?

i've spoken about this before but an extrapolation of wilbur and niki's dynamic that i like to incorporate into my fics is that wilbur values niki's thoughts and opinions very very highly. oh god no he doesn't always listen to them. in fact he rarely listens to them. but he sees niki as a very quintessential Good Person, a mild paragon of morality, puts her up on a pedestal that is a little too high. she's so good that she can be friends with eret and with l'manberg all at once and so good that she can withstand the horrors of manberg just a little bit longer and so good that tommy can't keep her name out of his mouth during pogtopia and so good that despite everything he has to save her from execution and so good that he can't let anything slip in front of her and so good that he has to rehearse his apology to her over and over and... (this is why i'm a bit disappointed wilbur didn't find out about niki attempting to murder tommy while he was in limbo - i think it's one of few things that could have shattered this view of her for him, and i think it would have made their relationship a lot more honest and equal, but i'm not getting into that now lol) (also for the record! i don't think niki is the only character who wilbur thinks of this way, but i think she is a very notable example of it)

this is still true after wilbur is revived, so when he hugs niki and he can sense that she is uncomfortable (because he is observant, more than she realises), he figures there must be something horribly wrong with him. if niki is always right, and niki sees something wrong with him, he must be wrong. so he pulls back.

He pulls away before she can figure out exactly what her hands are doing, taking two bouncing steps back against the fence. There are still smudgy bags under his eyes - he still looks like he hasn’t slept in years - but there’s a tight smile pulled against his face. Is that a good sign? She thinks it’s a good sign. She smiles back.

(no it is not a good sign!)

so he apologises immediately and rattles off the apology he thinks she wants - a very canned, rehearsed sorry i destroyed l'manberg even though he doesn't really mean it, because he's not really sorry that he died.

“You’re right,” he grins, and gets up off the fence - he leans towards her for a moment, but something in his expression closes off again and he rocks backwards on his heels. “I’ll head in. Better not keep the old man waiting, right?”

he wants to hug her again but he doesn't.

the next time we see wilbur is in a group setting, and after he's had some time to investigate and mull over the group dynamics - i don't think he was necessarily trying to stir shit by inviting tommy and tubbo to a dinner with the syndicate (to be fair, he probably just invited tommy and then assumed tubbo was also coming) but once he picks up on the tension, he is absolutely stirring shit. he's placed himself back into an antagonistic role, because in his mind that is the only one he's allowed. it doesn't help that the dynamic between all these people has shifted so staggeringly since he was alive, and no one wants to talk about it (not just to him, but it feels like they specifically don't want to tell him), so he resigns himself to finding out via causing problems at the dinner table. what's up with emduo vs clingyduo? (keep in mind, wilbur still thinks he is the only one who did all that damage to l'manberg.) what role does ranboo, this strange and non-confrontational newcomer, play in this? why is he so close to tubbo and tommy? what is tommy doing? how does dream, whose presence seems to touch almost everyone at this dinner table, the most powerful man on the server - now imprisoned - play into this? (someone wilbur feels kin with, built of the same horrible stuff, but indebted and knowing deep in his bones that he has done something to hurt wilbur's family?)

and yes, he knows he's twisting the knife, but he doesn't think himself good enough to dig for this kind of information any other way. he is a bad person, so he is doing bad things. as relevant to cause most of us are bitter specifically as a niki & wilbur relationship study - niki has given her opinion on him, that he is bad, so he is doing bad things. he is proving her wary judgement right through his own low expectations (and to some degree, standards) for himself.

Right. For Wil’s sake, who’s kicked back his chair and is leaning back, glass pressed against his lips. His eyes narrow contemplatively behind cracked glasses, surveying.

like, niki is being extremely judgmental in her thoughts, but he is surveying. techno revealing to the table that tubbo and ranboo are married and wilbur's response to that new information is very telling also lol

and then niki mentions the festival (shooting right through the complicated dinner table politics) and phil picks up on it and wilbur has to spill the beans about how manberg was a mess and tubbo died and he couldn't stop tubbo from dying. something to note when niki leaves the cabin as well that i'm not sure if many people picked up on:

The cold comes rushing back in, too slowly and then all at once - like being thrown into ice water. She’s not - she’s nowhere near the festival, she’s spaced out, again, at Techno’s dinner table - where Phil sits, concerned and horrified with every shaking word that falls out of Wilbur’s mouth, where the three teenagers across from her talk over one another and push and threaten to leave, where Techno sits, despondent, at the head of the table. She can’t stay. She’s going to suffocate if she does. She stands, almost knocking over the chair in her haste to go - there are eyes on her, a shaking voice calls out her name, but she ignores it.

haha lol lmao

aaaaand this kind of just makes things worse for wilbur! he's in a very bad headspace - well he was already in a very self-destructive headspace, purposely burning his reputation in the eyes of people he cares about because he's already cast himself as the villain and cannot bear to be seen as anything else, but bringing up the memories of pogtopia exacerbates things to an even greater degree. by the time he meets niki above the crater, he is more than ready to just absolutely shred that relationship. i mean she stormed out of dinner right? she can't stand to be around him. he definitely deserves that. and so on. so he swans around the crater making an effort to be upsetting (stomping on the glass, talking up dream, etc) to make niki uncomfortable, to set her off so the bridge between them is burnt, because he kind of can't bear to actually burn it himself. he doesn't want to hurt her by ditching her so he's trying to subconsciously goad her into ditching him. but it doesn't work so he just keeps pushing it.

Wilbur’s eyes finally drop back down to hers, and he shoots her a look that would be so heart-rendingly familiar, so sweet, if it wasn’t so saccharinely patronising. “Come on, Niki. It’s very admirable of you to put on a brave face, but it’s just the two of us now. I can tell you don’t want me around.”

the thing with wilbur here is that he thinks he is saying aloud what niki is thinking and thus releasing her from this burden of putting up with him, but given the context of how he (kiiiind of inadvertently) left her in manberg and thus she has some unresolved Issues about him leaving her behind, it just comes across as unspeakably cruel. he's just trying to be... well, kind of just a dick. he's spewing out a lot of big words and this illusion of him being some grand villain - of being more of an archetype than a person, more of an archetype than some guy niki's friend wilbur. he doesn't really realise that he's repeatedly hitting niki right where it hurts, because he doesn't realise that him leaving niki (through pogtopia or through death) could hurt her so much, because he doesn't think he's worth wanting.

what throws him off is when niki smacks back a little too hard and accidentally implies that she believes his hype - that she believes he's not just unlikeable and annoying and a burden, but a threat.

Wilbur goes quiet for a moment, simply watching. “You really don’t believe me, do you?” “You said it yourself, Wilbur,” Niki says quietly. The words don’t sound right in her mouth. “You’re the villain, aren’t you?” Wilbur’s dark eyes widen for a fraction of a second, something incomprehensible flickering across his face, before the mask slips back into place - this one, bitterly disappointed, almost upset. He takes a ragged breath, breath catching on - on something, Niki wouldn’t know what - before huffing out a hollow laugh, grin tugging at his lips.

boom. line crossed. if niki - always right, always good - truly believes that wilbur is dangerous, that wilbur could hurt someone (people he has called family, by the way) then there must be no hope left for him. and then niki starts ranting, and in her anger she lets her own hurt slip, and that's when wilbur goes no, wait because she's gone from saying things that he can accept are true (wilbur is a bad, bad person and he Cannot get better) to things he cannot accept are true (niki is gullible and stupid and was misled by him and he never cared about her). those things Cannot be true, so what the fuck is going on with all the other arguments that are coming out of niki's mouth?

and then niki pulls out the axe and wilbur is very quickly also now reckoning with his newfound mortality and the gripping fear that he cannot go back to limbo again so it's this fun game of escalate the situation until niki rightfully abandons him forever but deescalate things enough that he walks out of this one with his head still attached to his shoulders.

and then she says that none of this l'manberg shit is the point, the point is that she's hurt because he left her, and she starts fucking crying.

he softens immediately after this point because of course he does - no matter how hard he tries to push niki away he cares about her, he doesn't like to see her cry, and it is his fault but not in the way he was expecting and that is awkward and uncomfortable and he's just putting the whole grand persona away right now because niki is crying. and finally he computes that yes, niki is hurt by him and sad and upset and angry, but it's because he left her. it's not because of l'manberg, it's not because he was a bad leader, it's not because he rotted the country from the inside out. it's absolutely nothing that he has been blaming himself for ever since independance. the idea that he hurt niki because she cared about him and missed him had not even come close to crossing his mind.

and that kind of breaks him a bit? he's been operating on niki hates me so i must be worth hating. now he has to jump to niki cares very deeply about me actually? so much that it makes her this angry? it is confusing and scary and he doesn't have control over the story anymore and maybe he never did and he can't hold onto his narrative anymore!! in the face of niki's stubborn earnestness and his absolute trust in it he is forced to admit to himself that someone thinks he is worth caring for. and when that someone is a person whose opinion he trusts almost unilaterally...

he starts to come around to it.

i love cwilbur a lot he has exactly 0% of the story's limited perspective focus but that won't stop him from having So many thoughts offscreen anyways

Help a writer out - Peaky Blinders Edition

Hey there folks. I know it's been a while since I posted my writing in here, but life was a mess (still is, but that's a story for another day) and I had zero motivation to write. Now I'm trying to get back to it and also start to write for Peaky Blinders again. For that I'll need your help. I've got a bunch of OC's created and I want to try my hand at one of them. I'll let you all chose the one.

Bellow the cut there's little details from each one, and I'll create a poll so you all can vote on your favorite.

Agnes Stewart - from Little Lamb - Moodboard - A good catholic girl. That’s how people always referred to Agnes. She comes from a very strict and almost excessively catholic family, being considered a miracle since her parents had a hard time conceiving. Agnes is sweet and kinda, too shy for her own good, and afraid to really express her opinions. That changes when she starts working for Polly and gets to meet Tommy and Alfie. Surprisingly, she develops a very close relationship with Lizzie, and slowly lets herself become her own person, distancing herself from the abusive environment she was brought up in.

Amber Gold - Moodboard - Bonnie’s twin is a mystery to a lot of people. Known to have her mother’s looks and her father’s temper, she is an expert in herbs, helping a lot of people in the community. She is very proud of her heritage and a fierce protector of her family. And that’s why the last thing she expects is to fall for the man she learned to hate.

Aurelia Changretta - Moodboard - The youngest of the Changretta children is used at working in the shadows. She has always been a good listener, learning quickly and giving advice to both her father and older brothers. Aurelia knew that the mafia would never allow her to work for them, it didn’t matter how good she was, how sharp she was, and she made her peace with it, finding a way to be involved on the business without being upfront about it. She married at a young age to the son of the Don of the Sicilian mafia, the Cosa Nostra, only to lose hi. During the war. After her husband’s death, she stayed living with her father-in-law, until John Shelby beat up her brother Angel, and interference was needed to avoid a blood bath. Always the strategist, Aurelia saw in the vendetta a way to gain more power by marrying the Peaky Blinders leader, Thomas Shelby.

Cecilia Clarke - from “All the blood I lost with you” and “Lies in the Dark” - Moodboard - her love and her loss are the only things Cecilia knows well. Having being friends with the Shelby’s, specially Tommy, since she can remember, Cecilia has gone through a rough path, loving her best friend and being used by him through the years. What she wants the most is being free from him, but at the same time, she doesn’t know how to live without him.

Daphne Scott - from Nothing’s Fair in Love and War - Moodboard - Daphne is a former nurse that served during the war and has a close relationship with Alfie, working as his right-hand woman. She has a twin brother that died during the war. Tommy takes a liking to her when he starts working with Alfie and drama ensues with Alfie’s betrayal and Grace’s return. Her best friend, Harriet, is also a former nurse that, nowadays, owns a very known brothel in London. William, a doctor who served with both of them during the war is someone Daphne carries really close to heart, even when people expect their relationship to be awkward because they’re former lovers. She is a high-class lady that willingly chose to detach herself from her family for thinking differently.

Esther Solomons - appears in The Solomons Siblings and Hanukkah with the Solomons - Moodboard - The youngest sibling of the Solomons household is a girl that has all her brothers wrapped around her finger. Esther, named after Hadassa, know and Queen Esther, that marked a Persian king and was responsible for gaining the Jews permission for the Jews to kill their enemies when one of the king’s advisors gets permission to get all the Jews in the kingdom killed. She certainly takes the courage of her namesake, fighting prejudice and resistance while she was pursuing her studies and then, later, when she earned a place in her brother’s business.

Eve - from Wicked Ways - Moodboard - A liar and a thief. Eve navigates through life on her own. She has no roots and her loyalty is only to herself. Growing up without a family, being deceived and betrayed more than once, she learned never to trust in people. Eve leads her life and her or kin a very similar way: wrapped in secrets. You never know when she is going to show up or when she is going to live. Working as a thief, she holds leverage against all of her clients to keep herself alive, and tried very hard not to create attachments. Alfie has worked with her a few times, and introduces her to Tommy, marking the beginning of an interesting game of cat and mouse.

Geogiana Abbott - inspired Heaven in Hiding and Sold my soul to a three-piece - Moodboard - The village girl that wanted more than people thought she should. Georgiana grew up in the same village Michael was brought to, creating a strong bond with the boy. She has a younger sister and started having a complicated relationship with her parents once she voiced her aspirations of going to college. They wanted her to find a good husband and be a housewife, but Georgiana refused to settle down for anything less than what she dreamed of: becoming a lawyer. That’s how she chose to leave the village and go to Oxford to try her luck. Her family chose to cut any ties with her, she made her way through school with hard work and some unpleasant situations, having lost contact with everyone from the village, including Michael. Georgiana found an unexpected companion in Daniel Solomons, and after graduating ended up winning a case against Shelby Company Ltd, getting to encounter Michael again and meet his new family, including a very unpleased Tommy.

Ivy Shelby - Moodboard - The woman responsible for mending Tommy’s broken heart after Grace left for America, Ivy is the most loyal person the Shelby’s have ever met. Knowing about his past, she doesn’t expect that when Grace returns, Tommy will make the mistake of choosing her instead of what they’ve built together.

Kathleen Sheppard - inspired Better With You, Out of Time and Just Tonight - Moodboard - A friend, a counselor, a lover, a partner, a daughter... Kath has been many thing through her life, but she was always her own person. Growing up in Watery Lane, the only daughter of a Scottish mother and British father, she was always very close to the Shelby’s. Kath helped Polly keep things up and running during the war, when she lost both her parents. Tommy and her always treated each other as best-friends, having crossed that line a few times, becoming lovers of some sorts after he came back from the war. A complicated relationship that had many ups and down because the two of them are too strong headed to admit their feeling for fear to what it would mean to their friendship in case it didn’t worked out. The thing they never realized is that the relationship had been working just alright for a long time.

Laura Shelby - from I want a divorce - Moodboard - Bond to Tommy since before the war, Laura had learned to navigate through changes. She was the oldest child, the one that took care of the house and her siblings so her parents could work. That worked at home, as a seamstress to help with the bills. That is until she got pregnant and was almost thrown out of her family home for giving herself up to a gypsy. Then learning how to deal with leaving with the Shelby’s, with Tommy changing when his father went away and his mother killed herself. They had to go through the lost of their child and then the war. Life has made them both colder, harder, but even then, Laura never thought that she would have to deal with her husband’s unfaithfulness. Not when she was expecting their child.

Lilliana Oliver - Moodboard - the second child of a very influential family in London, Lilliana grew up loving horses more than people. She always dreamt of racing and fought hard against society rules to achieve what she wanted. And she won’t let any man stop her. Not even Tommy Shelby and the love she has for him.

My general feelings on my F/Os' canon love interests and how I picture my dynamic with each of them:

Prince Eric (The Little Mermaid):

Eric is MY GUY. BESTIE. HIMBO EXTRAORDINAIRE. We high five each other as we pass each other in the hallway because we both have the best wife in the world. Literally the epitome of this meme:

Me: "The stars are so beautiful tonight."

Eric: "You know who else is beautiful?"

Keyleth (Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina):

So admittedly I have not finished the series yet but as far as I can tell, Vax and Keyleth have a very "right person, wrong time" type of relationship? Like, I get it, they're always gonna love each other, they're just never going to be in a place where they can BE together? And I mean......that works for me :P I feel marginally bad about stealing her man because she's so sweet and deserves a break, precious bean, but if it works it works <3

Meryl Stryfe & Milly Thompson (Trigun Stampede):

I felt so bad the moment I started watching the show because I was like "oh god another female character I'm gonna have to throw under the bus in the name of self shipping" but honestly so far in the 23 version I read their dynamic as platonic?? And just in general, I love her <3 She's a tough little cookie; and I haven't properly met Milly yet but I just know I'm gonna love her :P girl frankly you deserve to have Nick maybe you'll mellow him out a little good heavens XD

I haven't properly met Alys yet but I'm looking forward to it, I feel like I'm gonna like her :P And Helaena is A SWEETHEART, an absolute darling, I would love to sit with her and have tea while she does her embroidery and listen to her talk about anything that comes into her pretty little head because THE GODS KNOW SOMEONE HAS TO. I will also be her "dump your shitty husband" friend so fast XD Like, LOOK AT AEMOND. LOOK AT HIM. HE'S RIGHT THERE GIRL I WILL SHARE.

Ive accidentally reached the post limit so Ive basically been doing my liveblog in my notes app, i wrote all of this while watching the February 4th 2022 vod

Oughhhhhhhh the way Sams literally begging

Actually, now that I think about it, I think I was definitely wrong about Dreams manipulation tactics changing with his goals. Like, i still dont think he wants to work with Sam or be 'friends' with him like with Tommy during the exile arc, but he is still doing the thing of breaking people down and then building them up with a fascimile of kindness so that theyll listen to him

Im assuming the time passed irl is the same as the time passed in-universe which means that Sam has been alone in the prison for 4 days but Dream is a lying motherfucker whos telling him that its only been one day

Okay now hes saying its been 2 days but hes still lying

HE DID GET HIM A CLOCK IM GONNA LOSE IT

Okay he wants to compare hkmself and Sam, Im very curious bc this will hopefully grant us some insight into how Dream like, actually percieves himself and his actions

Okay, two things:

1. Dream being like "[the evil bunker full of everyones sentimental items] was just theater" has some serious Wilbur vibes ngl

2. Dream is sooooooo obsessed with Tommy istg

Dream is asking Sam what bad things hes done aside from manipulate Tommy and be dramatic and Sam is like "uhhhhh idk tbh......" as though Dream isnt the guy responsible for Lmanberg blowing up thrice

Sam is basically asking Dream if the things Dream did were wrong/bad and its like, you cant do that, you cant cushion your opinions on someones bad action in this kind of insecurity, especially if youre talking to someone known to be manipulative!!

Ouhhghhh the way Dream can basically make up anything he wants about Tommys time in exile because barely anyone, but esepcially not Sam, visited him

"How was it my fault that Tommy was exiled" I dont even have anything to say, Im just kinda enamoured by the realization of how little people other than Tommy and maybe Wilbur actually know about the exile

Dream just mentioned the Egg and 1. I had already basically completely forgotten about that and 2. The timeline of Drea involvement with the Egg is like, he briefly checked on it back when everything was still kinda kicking of, didnt worry about it for weeks or even months and then he was in jail for a year and he basically completely missed all of the Egg Lore like damn, I hope Punz properly explained all that bullshit to him lol

God, Im projecting so hard rn but Dream weaponizing his own genuine suffering in order get what he wants which also shields him from having to confront the ways it was made him suffer and how it actually affected him is so relatable

Ive been spoiled so I know theyre gonna try and make c!Dream more sympathetic later on and i know a lot of people really hate that and honestly, I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that he didnt get his own POV/only got it very late which gives people less opportunity to sympathize or empathize with him and also really dehumanizes him. Idk this is kinda complex and I'll probably make a seperate post about it

Im going to lose my mind, Dreams monologue about how everyone is the hero in their own story and a villain in many others literally sounds like a thesis statement, like if the Dream SMP had a kids show-esque "message" like so many people inexplicably want it to, it would be this more than literally anything else

Quackity and Schlatt’s Relationship - More Complicated Then You Think

(this is all /rp and about the characters from the dream smp! pls assume i have the dignity not to write analysis of youtubers)

recently there was a bit of discourse surrounding the relationship between Quackity and Schlatt floating around on tumblr. tho i never saw the original post that sparked the conversation, i did see a few posts that were inspired by it mentioning how they disliked that the original post implied that Quackity and Schlatt were mutually abusive and/or equally bad for each other

since i never saw the original post, i can't be sure if that's what the op meant to imply. it's not really my place to speak about a post that i never got the chance to read. BUT the conversation that was caused by the post in question did get me thinking about how this fandom treats the relationship between Quackity and Schlatt and how little nuance there is in discussions about it

now before i say anything else, i want to make a few things clear:

i don't think Quackity and Schlatt’s relationship is mutually abusive. no need to worry about hearing that from this post

i don't look down on ppl who have different interpretations of their relationship

there will be potentially triggering content in this analysis. i will place a quick warning whenever i think one is needed!

their relationship is romantic in canon and therefore i’ll be treating it as romantic

alright now that we’ve gotten all of that out of the way, we can finally get on with the analysis! i apologize for how long this is gonna be

part 1: let's talk relationship!

i think we can all agree that Quackity and Schlatt’s relationship was not exactly a healthy one. tho it didn't start out that way, it certainly turned into what could be read as abusive or toxic (i personally read their relationship as being abusive in its later half due to evidence provided by the text, but i understand if others prefer to view it as just toxic instead)

but what happened that led to their partnership ending so badly? what caused all of this mess?

well, it was a lot of things. but we will get to that later. let's talk relationship first!

from the very beginning, Quackity and Schlatt’s relationship was pretty one-sided. tho they both clearly liked each other as friends/partners in crime both before and after the election (yes they did interact before the election!) Quackity was also interested in Schlatt romantically- something that Schlatt wasn't fully committed to

as we all know from the infamous date stream and from a few other moments, Quackity and Schlatt enjoyed playfully flirting with each other- tho it was pretty obvious that Quackity was more serious about it then Schlatt was even tho Schlatt considered Quackity to be very attractive

in my opinion, Quackity is someone who wants a long term relationship, while Schlatt is more interested in flings. this can be seen in Schlatt refusing to marry Quackity and rejecting most of his advances while Quackity tried his best to convince him to feel otherwise. Tommy put it best: Quackity is just one of Schlatt’s many bitches U_U

to Quackity, the romantic aspect of their relationship was very important. because Schlatt never actually shot him down or told him that he didn't feel the same way, Quackity took that to mean that they were truly in love. Schlatt on the other hand wasn't very invested in the romantic side of things but clearly valued Quackity’s looks and his support as an ally against Pogtopia so he never fully rejected Quackity’s advances

this might not seem like too big of a deal considering the other things that happened between them, but i think it shows part of the nature of their relationship. there is a lot of miscommunication and, on Schlatt’s end, manipulation of emotions. love is a strong motivator for loyalty and Schlatt is a smart guy who would know how to use that to his advantage

but that isn't to say that Schlatt didn't ever care about Quackity!

Schlatt is a complicated guy and figuring out when he's actually being genuine can be pretty difficult. but i think there are some moments that point to Schlatt genuinely caring about Quackity

when he was alive, Schlatt was pretty paranoid. not as paranoid as Wilbur, but certainly up there. but there were never any times where he truly questioned Quackity’s loyalties after his first day as president. Schlatt also seemed truly upset that Quackity betrayed him, bringing up their status as partners in crime while ranting about how much it hurt him and singling Quackity out while talking about how he had been abandoned during his time of need

Schlatt also spent a lot of time sulking after Quackity betrayed him and whining to Ponk about needing a new bitch. this is in contrast to how angry he was after Tubbo betrayed him- both during and after the execution

there is also the situation with the Big Man Gym

after being dead for a while, Schlatt contacted Quackity despite them leaving off on bad terms and asked for him to visit him in his cave gym. when Quackity showed up, Schlatt talked about how he valued their relationship and the good times they had together. tho this can easily be seen as emotional manipulation, Schlatt’s a lot smarter than he seems and- if he doesnt have memory issues due to being a ghost- would know that Quackity’s opinion of him was in the dump at the time of his death and most likely wouldn't have improved since then. Fundy has a higher opinion of Schlatt than Quackity does and is someone who obviously craves validation. but Schlatt went to Quackity first anyway and trusted him to help revive him

i think that this is all good evidence that points towards Schlatt truly caring about Quackity as much as someone like Schlatt can care about anyone- or at least valuing him as a companion

i also think that it is pretty common knowledge that Quackity cared about Schlatt- and possibly still does- but i will go over a bit of evidence that i haven’t already mentioned before we move on to the next part

Quackity tried multiple times to impress Schlatt (like when he lied about knowing how to play chess), would attempt to help Schlatt when he was drowning in water, sadly said that they could have had something together while Schlatt was dying in the caravan, and implied that he wouldn’t have left if Schlatt hadn’t taken down the white house. Quackity also willingly went to the Big Man Gym after being summoned there by Schlatt and wanted to revive him long before the revive book became part of the story

part 2: what made it fall apart?

everything i've said so far has been pretty interesting (hopefully) but it doesn't really answer the original question: what went wrong to turn Schlatt and Quackity’s mainly positive partnership sour?

well it comes down to two things in my opinion: their incompatible desires for political power and Schlatt’s deteriorating mental state

Quackity wanted political power from the beginning and wasn't afraid to be open about his desires. he pooled his votes with Schlatt because Schlatt offered him the position of vice president, something Wilbur and Tommy weren’t willing to give to him. tho Quackity obviously cared about L’Manburg and wanted to see good things for it, he also desired power and was willing to team up with someone he didn't fully agree with to get said power

at 32:40 in this video, Quackity talks about how in politics everyone uses everyone so it's alright if Schlatt is using him. he then talks about how he doesn't want to be a man with no power and how he understands that Schlatt’s main goal is also gaining/keeping power. Quackity also shows a bit of his naughty evil side by saying if he overthrows Schlatt then the fun ends too early!

(side note: these two are pretty evenly matched in intelligence and manipulativeness, i love it!)

it's a bit of a fandom misconception that Quackity was a love sick yes man during the Manburg era. tho Quackity did want to please Schlatt and was in love with him, he didn't shy away from standing up to or disagreeing with Schlatt when he believed it was needed

at around 26:12 of this video, Quackity and Schlatt meet together in private and Quackity tells Schlatt off for playing down his role in the power structure of Manburg. since this was very early in Schlatt’s reign, Quackity shows no fear towards him and confidently tells him not to treat him like that

Quackity also broke Niki out of jail after regretting letting her be put there in the first place, tried to convince Schlatt to not execute Tubbo, jumped in front of Fundy when Schlatt tried to attack him, tried to stop Schlatt from tearing down buildings, and attempted to protect the white house he built from being destroyed by Schlatt. these are not behaviors of a pure yes man but of someone who, despite fear, has the confidence to speak up for himself even when disrespected by someone in authority

Quackity has always been someone who wanted power and someone who was never a yes man to authority. this contradicts with how Schlatt believed Quackity should act as vice president. in Schlatt’s opinion, Quackity’s one job is to sit around looking pretty while Schlatt does all of the important things and holds all of the power. Schlatt was a big fan of promoting people to worthless positions of authority and its pretty obvious that he considered vice president to be similar to the fake positions he gave Fundy and Tubbo

in the end, this was a big part of what destroyed their relationship. like it or not, Quackity’s a power hungry guy and always has been. he didn't like that Schlatt constantly shoved him aside and refused to listen to him

now onto the nasty bit...Schlatt’s mental state

cw for mentions of alcoholism, mental deterioration, and abusive behavior

before i say anything more, i just want to say that i don't think having issues with alcoholism makes someone a bad person. i personally have some issues with such things so it would be pretty stupid of me to say being an alcoholic makes you a bad person. alcoholism does negatively affect your cognitive functions tho and, combined with other health issues, can cause some of the very serious mental problems that Schlatt clearly struggles with

throughout the Manburg era, Schlatt’s mental state rapidly deteriorated. he went from a pretty normal- if eccentric- guy who had a drinking problem, to someone who was delirious most of the time. it's a sharp and noticeable decline that caused a lot of pain for Quackity due to Schlatt often taking his excess aggression out on him by yelling at him and/or belittling him. tho Schlatt often belittled Quackity before he went fully off of the deep end, it was never as aggressive as it was when he was in this delirious state of mind

it was during one of Schlatt’s most aggressive and delirious moments that he tore down the white house despite Quackity’s protests. as we all know, this caused Quackity to snap and kill Schlatt (it's more complicated than that but we will get back to that). as mentioned previously, Quackity implied that he would have stayed with Schlatt if the white house hadn’t been destroyed

in my opinion, these two things combined are the biggest reasons why Quackity and Schlatt’s relationship fell apart. their differing desires for power were not compatible and Schlatt’s awful behavior while his mental state declined caused a rift between them that couldn't be fixed

part 3: how toxic was it really?

cw for emotional and physical abuse

as i said all the way back in part one, Quackity and Schlatt’s relationship was not healthy. i have provided many examples in the other two parts that shine a light onto why it wasn't healthy, but i didn't show the entire picture

there are many moments that show exactly how Schlatt treated Quackity when he was acting at his worst and none of them are pretty. tho Schlatt was never truly aggressive with his insults until he started to go off of the deep end, that doesn't mean that what he said wasn't negatively affecting Quackity

Schlatt would belittle, insult, and mock Quackity for his appearance not being up to his standards, for his opinions, and for being emotional in ways that Schlatt disapproved of like crying. tho Schlatt would often brush off Quackity’s reactions towards this cruel behavior, it's very clear that Schlatt’s treatment of him has stuck with Quackity in many ways

Quackity is very sensitive about his appearance and it seems to be because of how badly Schlatt hurt his self esteem during their time together. Schlatt tied Quackity’s worth to his appearance and then would claim he wasn't meeting his standards of attractiveness. we can tell that this has stuck with Quackity because of his sensitivity towards people bringing up the scar on his face (something that greatly alters his physical appearance) and he still reacts very badly when Schlatt calls him the mocking nickname flatty patty

speaking of flatty patty- that stupid insult shockingly has a lot of weight in Quackity’s relationship with Schlatt. tho its something the audience is meant to laugh at, the nickname also shows just how little Schlatt respects Quackity because he's constantly throwing it around just to make Quackity upset. Schlatt’s last words are flatty patty all because he wanted to get in one last dig at his ex and ruin Quackity’s day even further

Schlatt tends to do a lot of things that are intended to make Quackity upset. tearing down the room Quackity made for him in the white house is the biggest example of this- especially since Schlatt mentions how it will upset Quackity while he does it. you can see this moment at around 19:10 of this video

and now let's get into the elephant in the room when it comes to these two: Quackity was scared of Schlatt. tho we never really see Schlatt hit or attack Quackity physically outside of their confrontation at the white house or their confrontation in the caravan, these clips imply that Quackity was at the very least scared of Schlatt physically harming him in some way

as for actually physically harming him, Schlatt hits Quackity multiple times with a pickaxe and with his fists during their white house fight. Quackity hits Schlatt a couple times too, tho these are all primarily defensive blows since he is trying to protect himself and his property. he also chases after Quackity with a bow after Quackity’s plan to trick him into signing Manburg over to the Pogtopians fails and hits him multiple times during the caravan confrontation

all of this evidence shows that Schlatt was an abusive (or at least toxic) partner towards Quackity and someone who greatly affected him in many ways

tho Quackity did a few questionable things throughout his relationship with Schlatt (such as trying to get Schlatt to have sex with him despite Schlatt not being interested as shown in the later half of this video) and did some downright morally wrong things during his time as vice president of Manburg, no one deserves the pain of an abusive relationship- even a person who has done bad things

as a brief side note before we move on because i know people will bring it up if i skip over it, Quackity did- and most likely still does- want to literally possess Glatt. he brought up reviving Schlatt and using him as a political pawn after Schlatt’s funeral and during their conversation at the Big Man Gym Quackity talked about owning Glatt and having him work at Las Nevadas with no pay

this is unsettling behavior to say the least but this essay isnt about the aftermath of their relationship so much as it is about their relationship when it was actually happening. maybe i will make another post talking more about how Quackity’s relationship with Schlatt affected him even after Schlatt’s death and/or about Quackity’s relationship with Glatt

part 4: final thoughts

i’m not exactly sure why the nuances in Schlatt and Quackity’s relationship get lost when it comes to the fandom, but it’s pretty disappointing to see. hopefully this essay can help people take a closer look at canon and maybe even help them find something interesting that they’d want to explore!

tho the point of this essay is to clear up any misconceptions and hopefully add some nuance to the conversations surrounding Schlatt and Quackity’s relationship, i also wrote it in hopes of showing people how fascinating these two partners in crime were back in the Manburg days. i didn’t cover everything but i think i did a pretty good job for my first analysis post in the dsmp fandom

So I am combining four different requests with this one post because I have recently discovered that I am allowed to do that hahaha. So instead of five separate posts, it’s one big post!! I hope you enjoy!!! (There is a bonus idea at the bottom, it is not SBI, rather a Sam idea and it is so amazing and is not mine, the idea comes from our very own Sunflower anon who has my whole heart.)

Elytran

Well first things first, you guessed it. You have wings. You have beautiful wings that allow you to fly for miles and miles without getting tired. They are big and cover most of your back. When they’re not in use, they’re tucked in tightly to your back for save keeping.

You and Philza are obviously very close. You and he can relate on so many levels. You spend a lot of time bonding over your wings. You know you can always go to him when you have questions about your wings and he is always willing to give you his knowledge, tips, and tricks on how to properly take care of your wings and stuff like that. I like to imagine that the two of you definitely help each other preen your wings. He more so you though. Like if it has been too long in his opinion he will force you to sit down on a chair so that you’re straddling it and your stomach is pressed against the back of the chair and he very carefully pulls the loose feathers and gets all of the grass and leaves and stuff out of your wings. Every so often you will return the favor, but because he’s been around so long he is practically perfect at doing his own wings himself and so he usually just focuses on you because you’re his kid and he wants to make sure that you’re taken care of. He gets a lot of the preening done when you two are sitting on the couch together and you’re snuggled up to his chest and his hand is just softly trailing up and down your wings. Smoothing out your feathers and carefully pulling out the ones that need to come out. It feels very nice and is very comforting.

I also feel though that your brothers would also do this to you sometimes. Just when you’re having a conversation with one of them they will grab your shoulders and turn you around and you would be forced to talk to them as they pick at your wings. Sometimes Tommy is too rough and so he can only do it when he’s absolutely calm. I 100% believe that before his death, Wilbur was the best brother to go to for help with your wings when Phil wasn’t around. He has the hands of musician, steady and gentle hands but still calloused and rough from years of plucking at a guitar. So he would be really good at being careful but also would be very good at picking out the things that needed to go while also being good at, i guess, petting your wings. I feel like Techno would be okay at it, not as good as Phil and Wilbur though. I feel like Tommy could be too rough sometimes. I feel like there are two different Techno’s you could get. A soft and gentle Techno who is very careful when messing with your wings or a rough and quick Techno that just really wants to be done with whatever you’ve asked him to do. So you would have to catch Techno on a good day in order for him to be able to properly help you.

Like Philza and Techno do, You and Philza go on adventures together all the time, only there is a slight difference obviously. You two go on flights. You two fly for hours at a time sometimes, not always have a particular destination in mind. You two just like to fly together. It’s such a freeing feeling. You two just fly together, feel the wind in your hair and your wings. The time is usually spent just chatting about anything and everything. It’s nice. You just get to spend a lot of time with your dad and you get to feel free and get to get away from all of the drama of the smp. I like to imagine that sometimes you two fly for so long that you get too tired to keep flying, but you have to get home. So Phil will pick you up, you wrap your arms around his neck and your legs around his waist, and he will fly the two of you home. He’s been alive for hundred of years and has had years of flying practice and so he almost never gets tired from flying and so he has absolutely no problem carrying you home if you’re too tired. Once you get a bit older and stuff, I also like to think that you’re able to do the same for your brothers, obviously not as long as Philza can, but you can pick them up and take them on a little flight around the server. Tommy would love it the most. He would cling to you, terrified you would drop him, but he would love being so high up, seeing everything and feeling free. He would love that he actually got to feel like a kid again. Wilbur and Techno would like it a lot less than Tommy. They would take you up on the offer every once in a while, but I don’t think they would like it that much. Like Techno would like to feel the wind through his hair and to feel free and not have to worry about anything, but I feel like he would just be hella scared that you’re going to drop him. He’s a big man and he trusts you a lot, but that doesn’t mean you’re strong enough to hold him. Don’t tell anyone, but I kind of headcanon that Wilbur is scared of heights. I don’t know why, I just kind of get that vibe from him. So like on the very very very rare occasion where you take him for a fly, he spends the whole time clinging to you for dear life with his face buried in your neck and his eyes clenched tightly closed. You can’t help but laugh at him though. You asked him about it once, why he accepts your offer if he’s so terrified, his answer warmed your heart. “I just like spending time with you. Anyway that I can.” (Complete side note, Ghostbur on the other hand would love love love love to go on flights with you. Like would beg you almost every day to go on one.)

Ghast hybrid

Listen, I am not saying this to exclude anyone okay? Please don’t take it as that, but you would be pale. You would be so pale. It’s the ghast in you and so you would be so pale. Like I feel you would almost have to wear a hat or put on sunscreen every time you left the house in the overworld because you would so easily be burned. That being said, you definitely would thrive in the nether. Like the heat and the brightness of the lava wouldn’t bother you at all as you travel through your home biome. You would also be able to fly. You would move so smoothly through the sky. You wouldn’t have wings or anything like that, you would just be able to fly. But like it would be so funny to scare the hell out of Tommy. Like you two are arguing or something or he’s just being annoying and so you just start fucking levatating as you stare him down. He would 100% shriek and run away from you causing you to laugh.

You always accompany any of the boys when they go into the nether for anything because no hostile mobs will attack if you’re nearby. Ghasts won’t shoot at you, hoglins won’t charge, blaze won’t fireball… you get it. Like the nether is your home and you are one of them, and they know that. You also are super good at navigating the nether. Think Human GPS but like half ghast GPS instead haha. You have absolutely saved the boys’ asses on more than one occasion. Like one time Techno wasn’t paying attention and he was just kind of walking around in the nether freely without thinking about it. He was going on and on about how it was nice to have you here but he probably could have handled it himself. He was right in the middle of telling you about how he probably could navigate the nether better than you when he literally walked straight off a cliff that hung right over a giant lava lake. You didn’t have time to laugh at his obliviousness. You knew that he couldn’t swim in lava, he may be a piglin hybrid that can survive the heat, but he absolutely could not swim in lava. So you very quickly ran right off of the edge of the cliff, flew down to him and just before he could sink into the lava, you grabbed him and flew him back up to the edge of the cliff. Once he was secure with solid ground under his feet, Techno would pull you into a giant hug. “Thank you,” he murmurs in your hair. You can’t help but giggle as you hug him back. “Of course. What was I going to do? Let you die? Besides, now we have prove of who’s the better nether navigator.” And Techno goes to argue but you just stare at him with a raised eyebrow and so his mouth snaps shut. You both knew you won that.

So Ghast tears right? So when you get upset to the point of crying, you do your best to keep in the tears because when you cry, they literally leave tear stains. Like your cheeks are stained and scarred for the next few hours because of the tears. It burns and is a painful thing, so you try to avoid it as much as possible. Another thing that happens when you’re upset is you begin to breathe fire and shoot fireballs out of your mouth. You accidentally discovered this once when Techno wouldn’t give you back your axe and you accidentally fireballed him into a wall, exploding parts of the wall as well. So when you get angry/upset, you clamp your mouth closed and don’t speak. That is the telltale sign that you’re angry, when you go silent. Tommy loves to push you at this point. Saying anything he can to get you to… well explode. It’s only worked once. Let’s just say that Tommy’s clothes and hair got a bit singed and he didn’t mess with you while you were upset for a few months afterwards.

Something useful about your tears is they can make regeneration potions. Obviously they aren’t full effect because you are only half ghast, but they still work. So even if you are crying and you are upset, you’re always sure to physically bottle up some of your tears when you do cry so that someone, mostly you or Techno, could make regeneration potions with them.

Raccoon hybrid

TRASH PANDAS!!!! Okay, right, sorry.

So we will begin with looks. You have little raccoons on top of your head, dark circles around your eyes, and a fuzzy black and white ringed tail. You have to take very good care of your ears and of your tail, making sure that it doesn’t get matted and stuff. I also feel you’re rather short. And sometimes you feel out of place among the absolute giants that are your brothers.

I feel like you would get along the best with Tommy. THIS IS NOT AN INSULT AT ALL but like for some reason I get a raccoon type vibe from Tommy. So I feel like you two would just vibe very well together. You’re mostly nocturnal due to your raccoon hybrid and Tommy is a 16 year old hyper boy who doesn’t like authority that much. So like he very often can be found in your room late at night. The two of you laughing and just hanging out together. If you get him on a good night, he will carefully pet your tail or brush it while you talk. You two have bonded a lot and shared a lot of sweet moments through your nocturnal nights together.

That being said, it does not stop Tommy from making fun of you. Raccoons are thought to be colorblind and Tommy knows this applies to you and does not stop making fun of you for it. “Hey Y/N! What color is this flower?” “Fuck off.” Because Tommy makes fun of you, you like to prank him a lot. Raccoons are actually very clever and this absolutely applies to you. You can move very quietly if you want so you manage to always prank Tommy really well…. That being said, you also find yourself very often ruining your own pranks because of how loud you can be. Have you ever heard a raccoon rummaging through your garbage at night? It feels like the loudest thing in the world lol. So sometimes you are accidentally careless and are very loud.

Raccoons can fall from pretty high heights without getting hurt, so you would be able to do the same. It would have been a total accident of how you found out though. You would have been helping Tommy build a random cobblestone tower when he accidentally pushed you off the tower. You didn’t have a water bucket and there was no water below you, so you literally prepared yourself for the loss of your first canon life. Your body finally hit the ground and you were left a little breathless from the force of the hit, but nothing hurt. You checked your wrist and found you had only lost one heart. Even though you were completely fine, Philza still gave Tommy hell for pushing you off the tower and grounded him for a few weeks. Even though you know you’d be fine from a big fall, you are still very careful when you’re high up. Like I said, you know you’ll be fine, but you don’t want to push the boundaries.

I feel like you have definitely been caught rummaging through the trash before. You were probably just bored and looking for something to do, or just something to play with and so on instinct, you reached into the trash and began searching through it. Philza would be the one to catch you. He wouldn’t even react too. He would simply let out a sigh, walk over to you, grab your arms and pull them out of the trash and walk you over to the sink before making you wash your hands. While you were doing that, he would take out the trash, making a mental note to get a more efficient/better way of getting rid of your trash.

Cow Hybrid

Yes yes yes yes. Okay okay. I love cows. Okay.

Starting out as always, appearance. So I think that you would have a few brown and white spots littering your skin. You’re entirely covered in them, but there are some on your arms, torso, and legs. You also have little horns that poke out of your hair. They’re a bit sensitive and your hair gets caught on them a lot, but they’re hella cute. You’re ears are where a human’s ears are, but they’re a bit bigger and a little more pink and flimsy than normal human ears. You also have a thin tail that pokes out behind you. You use it to swat things, mostly Tommy, away from you. When someone gets hit by your tail, it stings quite a bit. Your skin is rather tough, not like super tough, but like it has a rather leathery feel. So not only does it hurt when you hit people, but it can also be a bit harder for you to get hurt/cut and stuff. Which is rather nice.

Something just random but hella cute that I like to think happens is that if you’re out walking, with or without your family, baby cows will begin to follow you. If they get far enough away from their parents and you happen to be nearby, they 100% will begin to follow you. It warms your heart a little bit, but it also worries you because you don’t want to upset their parents, but the adult cows just think it’s really funny. Like, it is so obvious that you’re not a full cow and that you’re barely an adult yourself, but the baby cows will still follow you and it is just so funny.

I feel like when you get very frustrated, you begin to moo or let out huffs and puffs. The boys find it very funny, but also not to bring it up to you. One time Wilbur made the mistake of laughing out loud when you mooed…. You charged him and tackled him and broke the table. So now the boys have just learned to try and comfort you and then laugh in private.

Listen I have seen many photos and videos of cows being petted and owners sitting in fields and the cow comes over and just lays on them and cuddles them and so like I feel that a lot of the times when you would find someone sitting on the couch or something, just chilling, you would try and cuddle up to them. Tommy and Techno wouldn’t like it as much, they would give you like a pat on the back before shoving you off. Philza would chuckle but allow you to rest there. Wilbur would absolutely let you cuddle up to him and oftentimes would wrap his arms around you and hold you to him. I also feel like he would be the only one to do it back to you. If you were just seated somewhere lounging around, Wilbur would absolutely flop down on top of you, crushing you a little bit, yes, but it is still nice… not having to be the one to initiate the contact. So you would just giggle and wrap your arms around him and nuzzle your face either in his curly hair or in his chest, it depends on how he flops down on top of you. Wilbur would also absolutely pet and stroke your horns and would just let you relax completely against him.

A lot of the time you can be found with a piece of hay hanging out of your mouth. I feel like you would just enjoy the taste but also just the feel of the plant on your tongue as you chew would be so comforting. Philza at first would try to take the thin straw out of your mouth but after you almost cried about it, he decided to just left it alone and let you do whatever you want. Tommy still tries to steal it from your mouth, but you’ve gotten good at chomping down on it and not letting it go. Techno gives you a little bit of a weird look but goes on about it. (It’s because he absolutely has tried it without you knowing and he hated it so much and he has no idea how the hell you keep doing it.) Wilbur I feel would be the one to help you keep your supply of it and would always get you a new one if you needed it. I feel like you would offer him one and he will sometimes accept it, but he doesn’t like it but he doesn’t want you to feel that your habits are weird so he partakes to make you feel better. Also for eating, you would love everything wheat based and would have a field day with things like that. You absolutely cannot and will not eat beef and you will not be around if anyone around you is eating it. It makes you sick to your stomach. So you don’t eat a lot of meat and you’re mostly vegetarian. Philza is more than willing to adjust his recipes to accommodate you and make sure that you’re okay at meal times.

Minecraft cows avoid going into water at about all costs, so I feel like you would do the same. You would avoid everything from stepping in puddles to swimming across the river to even having a beach day at the ocean. I think you would be fine, it’s just the floating in water and having your feet not be completely on solid ground that you hate. Your family sometimes makes fun of you for it because they have to build a bridge of some kind or craft a boat for the smallest thing of water, but in reality they want you to be comfortable and so they do everything to make it so you could have your way when it comes to the water like that. When Wilbur becomes Ghostbur, Ghostbur likes to hang out with you a lot because you’re good company but also because he knows you don’t go anywhere near water, and he’s allergic to water so it works out very well for you.

Cat hybrid w Creeper hybrid Sam

So 🌻 had this fucking amazing idea okay. Like all credit for this idea goes to her, I am but a simple writer that wrote it out a little bit more, but this was completely her idea and she has my whole heart because she has a big brain. It is praise 🌻 hours friends!

So you are the newest addition to the SMP, a cute little cat hybrid. You have cute, fluffy ears that sit on the top of your head and you have a matching fluffy tail that pokes out behind you. Everyone that has met you agrees that you’re very cute and very sweet to everyone. Everyone loves to be around you and loves to spend time with you….. Well almost everyone.

As we have learned in previous hybrid headcanons, Sam is terrified of cats. It’s the creeper in him and he feels so bad that he avoids you so admently, but he cannot help the trepidation that swells in his veins when he’s near you. He has tried to approach you several times, tried to properly introduce himself, but he just couldn’t get close enough to you to do it. Sam had definitely asked others about you though and had fallen in love with you through the other’s descriptions and through watching you from afar, trying his best not to be seen. You weren’t dumb though, you knew he was there watching you. And when he took his eyes off of you, you let your stare turn to him as well. You let yourself stare at the man that refused to approach you. You, like him, asked around about him and you learned about him through others. You learned about how passionate he was about his work, how kind he was, how he had practically adopted a few of the minors on the server, how he was such a nice guy. It made your heart ache. If he was such a nice guy, why would he only watch you from a far then? Why wouldn’t he approach you? He must hate you… Yeah that had to be it, he heard about you, watched you for a bit, and decided that he didn’t like you… It made you hella sad, but it’s just something you would have to deal with and live with…. Oh well…. Better get building your house.

Sam decided that he would try to make a move on you. He wanted to get to know you better through your own words and stuff, not just what others had to think about you. So he decided he would try to approach you while you were working on your house. Sam didn’t want to come empty handed, he figured he had already made a bad enough impression on you by not approaching you sooner, so he picks some flowers, roses and sunflowers because I’m a self indulgent bitch, and he took a few deep breaths before making his way to the plot of land that you have claimed as your own. He finds you working on the front wall of your house and he finds it very easy to approach you when you’re not paying attention to him. He is getting rather close to you, the closest he’s ever been to you and he’s really proud of himself. You must have sensed him, or heard his footsteps or something though, because your head snaps to look over your shoulder and your gaze locks with his and every single bit of confidence that Sam had worked up leaves his body. The fear of being around a cat fills him and he can’t help but let the flowers fall from his fingers and he sprints away. “Hey! Wait!” You call after him, rushing forward a bit, trying to stop him. But he’s gone so fast that you can only get to where he dropped the flowers before he’s out of sight. You can’t help but let out a sigh as you turn around. He must really hate you huh? Your eyes catch the flowers on the ground and you bend down to pick them up. Are these for you? They must be if he brought them here… Even if he did drop them on the ground to run away from you. Either way, you brought the pretty flowers to your nose and took a deep breath through your nose, inhaling the sweet scent. You can’t help the smile that curls on your face as you make your way “inside” of you under construction. You very quickly find a vase and get some water and set the flowers on a makeshift table in your house before going back to building the walls, every time your gaze catching the flowers, a grin growing on your face.

Sam berates himself when he gets back home for how stupid it was for him to just leave like that. So he tells himself he is going to go back tomorrow and at least introduce himself to you. He will speak at least three words to you. The next day comes and he does as he’s promised. He gathers all of his confidence again before making his way back to your land. He freezes just outside the property line and sees that you have constructed your walls and you are now working on your roof. Your back is to him once again and so he lets out a deep breath before deciding to make the first move. “Hi there!” He shouts from his spot, about 25 blocks away from you. Your attention moves from what you were doing to the man that called out to you. You were very surprised to find Sam standing there. “Hi! Can I help you with something?” You call back. Sam takes a deep breath, happiness filling him at the fact you were actually having a conversation and he wasn’t running. “I uh, I just wanted to introduce myself to you. I’m Sam, it’s very nice to meet you.” You give the man a warm smile, “I’m Y/N. It’s very nice to finally meet you Sam… I must admit, I thought that maybe you hated me because you seemed to avoid me like the plague,” you tease, moving a few materials around before sitting down to face him. A blush that you can’t see spreads across his face as he scratches the back of his neck as he subconsciously takes a few steps forward. “Yeah, sorry about that. I don’t hate you… It’s just that you’re a cat hybrid and my creeper side doesn’t like that very much. I’m sorry I made it seem like I hated you.” It all made so much sense to you now and you couldn’t help but feel bad for feeling that he hated you. “Oh!” You let out, laughing at yourself causing Sam to smile, he liked your laugh. “That’s right… I forgot that. Well, I’m sorry I scare you” you claim with a giggle. Sam gives you a slight smile as he takes another few steps forward, “It’s alright, not your fault. Just both of our natures,” Sam claims eliciting a hum out of you as you nod your head.

The two of you take the next few minutes to get to know each other just a bit better. Even though you scare him still a little bit, Sam can’t help but inch his way toward you. You notice this but don’t say anything about it, you only smile.

Sam is telling you about his latest redstone project when it happens. You momentarily forget your on your roof and so you move to lean in closer to hear him better and it happens. You slip. You feel yourself falling from your roof. It’s pretty high up, easily at least 15 blocks high. You’re pretty relaxed about it, but Sam is panicking. He makes the split decision and he rushes forward and catches you in his arms. Half of his mind is screaming for him to run away from you by the other half is screaming for him to stay and make sure you're okay. You are very surprised to land in his arms but it is a very welcome surprise. You two lock eyes and you give him a big smile. “Hey” you greet casually. Sam gives a big gulp before giving you a nervous smile back, “Hey.” You have a very quick mental debate with yourself before saying screw it to yourself, “Guess you could say I fell for you huh?” The joke causes a bit of tension to leave Sam and he lets out a little giggle and shakes his head. “Guess you could say I caught feelings then huh?” he retorts with a cheesy grin. You blush a little bit before leaning up and kissing his cheek making him blush too. “Do you want to go on a date with me?” Sam blurts out. You’re a bit surprised at the question but you very quickly nod, “I would love to Sam. Are you sure you’ll be okay though?” You ask him. He gives you a reassuring smile and nod. “Yeah, I’ll be fine. Now that I know what it’s like to hold you I’m not sure I ever want to let you go.” The heat returns to your cheeks, but like a million times hotter now. You left speechless for a few moments causing Sam to chuckle and set you down, but his hands don’t leave your waist and yours don’t leave his shoulders. You two simply beam at each other for a while before Sam looks over to your house, “Do you want some help?” he offers. You give a series of quick nods, “Yeah that would be wonderful… Thank you.”

(So I was going to make it a little funny because cats don’t take fall damage and so like hybrid cat reader wouldn’t either but then I began writing the little scene at the end and I liked that a lot and I couldn’t find anywhere to squeeze it in without ruining the mood. So just please think about how Sam got over his fear of cats because he thought you were in danger of getting hurt, but you weren’t because fall damage doesn’t affect you, and so he caught you even though it terrified him… That’s all.
