You rested your cheek on the bar, hangover in full effect but the cool wood was calming the headache.

“Sooo, who wears the pants in this triangle of horrors.” Angel leaned back against the bar, watching Lucifer and Alastor glare at each other from separate armchairs.

“Now that’s a dumb question.” Husk shook his head.

“Okay if it’s so obvious then you tell me.”

Husk put his hands up defensively, “Not stupid because it’s obvious, but because only an idiot would piss off the cruelest overlord and the king of hell with one sentence.”

“The king is always going to come out on top.” Luci smiled directly at Alastor.

“Funny, you spent your night on your back.” Alastor rose his newspaper to block out the view of Luci.

“Who am I to deny one of my people the chance to serve their majesty?”

Alastor cackled, wiping tears from his eyes, “Serve? You were literally begging for my-“

“YOU ASKED ME TO!” Horns fully grown, on his feet.

“You sounded like you meant it.” Alastor’s body grew to twice his size, antlers hitting the bar’s overhang as static cut in and out of his voice.

“Enough! Shh. Quiet.” You pulled a napkin over your head to block out the bright lights. “I need you both to shut the fuck up for like, 5 minutes.”

Both men stilled, returning to their seats. Lucifer scrolled on his phone, sheepish. Alastor returned to his paper.

Angel tapped the bar, “Not so obvious, was it, whiskers.”

“Damn.” Husk shook his head.

“Kiss kiss love you sorry,” you offered, a pang of guilt for being so rude to them. Especially in front of others. You knew you’d have to make amends later.

Lucifer perked up, eyes wide and shining, “did you say-?”

Alastor’s smile nearly dropped, an unseen audience awwing over the radio static as he accidentally ripped the newspaper in half, “what was that now?”

it’s been a few weeks since you and wanda last had any real conversation like you used to or hung out at one of the other’s places. wanda sometimes does get to see you when you agree to have really brief lunches together or if you’re passing through where she’s studying on campus

but there’s an athletic awards event one evening and she doesn’t expect to see you there. she’s elated and starts a conversation with you and invites you to sit beside her at her table since there’s an empty seat, but finds that you were invited by natasha to attend for yelena seeing as though yelena was nominated for an award. she very nearly tells you how much she misses you, nearly apologizes for the possibility of having done something to make you upset, before natasha comes to take you away as everyone begins to get settled for the award ceremony. wanda’s sad to see you leave, especially since you didn’t get very much time to talk, but seeing you leave with natasha made her feel a certain kind of way she can’t explain

back at her table, wanda talks with carol who starts discussing a crush she has. when carol reveals that she has a crush on valkyrie, wanda looks a bit confused

“but she’s a girl,” she reminds quietly

“i only like girls,” carol tells her. she likely would’ve thought wanda’s response was funny if she wasn’t so occupied watching valkyrie line up on the stage before being presented her award

wanda watches carol and then valkyrie, then asks quietly, “you like val like you would like a boy? if you liked them?”

distractedly, carol answers, “i suppose you could put it like that. yeah, i guess.”

it wasn’t that wanda hadn’t ever heard of girls liking other girls before in brief passing but it was the first time she’s ever really thought about it. struck by the idea, wanda sits in silence for the rest of the award ceremony deep in thought. after the ceremony, she watches from afar as you and natasha congratulate yelena. she watches as natasha wraps her arm around you, watches as you smile at her and laugh because of her

it’s painful in ways she cannot understand.

I was told the little changes/additions put in the anime made the VS siblings' scenes when they come in to help Sanji escape so much better, so I went to look at it (because I don't normally watch the anime).

Oh yes, yes it did.

The light streaks they make seriously just make me think of Powerpuff Girls. Oh good Lord, self, no, stop getting dumb ideas.

I also find it so funny that they added the above additional bit where they had to Black Bug a bomb out of the sky, because then when Ichiji kabooms Oven with Sparking Valkyrie, he had to come flying back down to do it like a classic superhero saving civilian scene.

In the manga since he was right behind Sanji, he just turned around and didn't have to do any dramatic swoops.

He doesn't make additional comments, but I always maintain that Ichiji's "silent stares" speaks more than words, pffft.

Yonji's rescue part is exactly as-is in manga, so they just had him make sarcastic comments at the end.

I dunno, Toei, it doesn't suit him to be saying this LOL. Like, from the manga, I just don't get the feel like Yonji would go out of his way to say tsundere things like this if Ichiji or Niji doesn't start first.

Anyway. They also had that split second where you can see Niji flying in and grab Sanji mid-air right before the bomb explodes.

Like, they could've just shown a big explosion and then show Niji flying while carrying Sanji unscathed in the next frame, but they actually put that bit in where he goes NyOooOM:

I don't know why this just seems so funny to me.

Maybe because in the manga because of the panelling, it looked more like Niji managed to pull Sanji out of there before the bomb hits. Here, the way it's timed and animated made it look like the bomb actually had hit, it just hit Niji on his Germa cloak and didn't do anything anyway.

Niji's part needs to be heard, because it's in the tone of how he talks:

Because it already looks and sounds like a typical sibling bickering. You know.

"Didn't ask you to help". "We'll help even if you don't ask. Dumbass".

(come on, you can just tell that struck out part is the unsaid part XD)

And this:

It looks like a fond(er) farewell (compared to the manga anyway, where this last bit doesn't happen).

Like, with Reiju it's not really a big difference, because she cares and it was never a question. It's the boys that's funny, because they're all dumb. Every single last one of them.

hi can i ask/request a x male reader who is like luffy?like from power's and behavior

they somehow got in to valhalla like they got accidentally teleported to valhalla and so after a while all of the gods and humans adopted him as a little Brother or son (this was Before Ragnarok]

they also don't know he has rubber powers and so when Ragnarok came around M!y/n decide to also join much to his adoptive families dismay.

but what made them more concerned is that M!y/n wanted to fight with out a Valkyrie.(by the way M!y/n's opponent would be like kaido)

and so when his fight was about to start all of his adopted family was watching very concerned as well as wanting to stop the fight before it even happens as you don't have a Valkyrie.

and so imagine there's surprise seeing you rubber power's as well as using your Armament, Observation, and Conqueror's. haki during your fight.

they're fight would play out the same as the anime/Manga (like everything from the scene of them splitting the sky to kaido turning to a giant dragon ect.)

and so when m!y/n fell unconscious when i tell you all of his adoptive family wanted to run in the arena and get him out of there.

but all of the suddenly they hear Drums?.all of them look at m!y/n seeing smoke or something covering him all of the sudden a Bust of energy in golp's the arena seeing that M!y/n had took the from of nika a powerful sun god that Disappeared centuries ago

after that the fight will continue to be like in the anime amd of course m!y/n won of course

and so how would his adoptive family react?,

for the gods i would like to see:

for the humans i would like to see:

•Nikola Tesla

and Leonidas.

-It had all started with an accident, one that brought you from your world to this new world, Valhalla. It was a paradise- no shortages of food so you were able to eat as much as you wanted for every meal, including snacks!

-While a bit disturbed at your monstrous appetite, those who found you- your new adoptive family, found themselves endeared to you- you were funny, loyal, and just a bright ray of sunshine!

-You loved this new world, despite missing your friends, as you learned that you would be unable to return back to your original world- as the way you came was a one-way ticket.

-Since you had so much fun playing there was no reason to fight, so none of them knew of your abilities.

-However, Ragnarok changed everything.

-You immediately signed up and you told Brunnhilde that you didn’t want a Valkyrie partner, you were going to fight by yourself.

-When your family saw you run out, many were panicking, some scared, some yelling at you- calling you an idiot and to get out of the arena but like normal, you just beamed brightly- not bothered in the slightest.

-Your opponent was massive- you would have strained your neck looking up at him had you not been made of rubber, but you grinned- he looked strong!!

-Your family, terrified for you- seeing that you had no weapon- no Valkyrie, but were quickly all gawking with awe, seeing you easily leap into the sky, stretching your body as if you were made of rubber!

-Even Brunnhilde was gawking- she had no idea you could do that!!

-Using your Haki, covering your body with Armarant Haki, you turned yourself into a weapon, “Gum-Gum Gatling!!” throwing a barrage of punches.

-Humanity was cheering loudly for you- watching you bounce around, hyping you up as you were having fun- that is until you got rocked, being sent hard into the ground, creating a crater.

-You weren’t moving and several members of your family, seeing you as a brother or a son, screamed out your name, several going in to stop the fight.

-Suddenly, everyone froze, hearing drums that seemed to be getting louder and louder, coming in faster and faster. Even your opponent had stopped, sensing something dangerous as white smoke came from your mouth, then other parts of your body.

-Warriors- gods and humans alike, immediately all flinched back, feeling the rush of energy escape you as your form changed, your hair turning white and fluffy.

-Your opponent went to charge and you stunned all by being able to move faster than before, hitting him with a well-placed punch- sending him flying back into the arena wall.

-The drums seemed to crescendo, reaching the loudest as the smoke finally cleared and everyone’s eyes went wide- seeing you standing there, a huge grin on your face, looking like you had not just gotten your ass kicked.

-It was like you became a god yourself, your power- your inability to warp reality- almost like you were a cartoon and anything you interacted with was a cartoon- it was so strange!

-His eyelid twitched, watching this one sided fight, now flipped from before, as your opponent was now on the defensive. He had no idea you were so powerful- but you looked so comical at the same time. However, seeing that you were safe, he did calm, no longer feeling afraid that he was going to lose you. However, you were going to get such an earful from him later- how could you hide something like this from him?!

-Poseidon, Hades, and Leonidas

-Was wide-eyed, watching with large, sparkly eyes- you were amazing!! Watching you fight was one thing- and he was so scared watching you get hurt. And when you seemed to be dead- he felt like he couldn’t breathe, unshed tears in his eyes- he just met you- he didn’t want to say goodbye already! As you came back, even more powerful than before, he could only gawk- he had never seen anything like that before- it was amazing!! He couldn’t wait for you to get backstage- he had so many questions for you!

Dealing with the lost of a child

[ HEADCANONS ] [ Buddha, Jack, Sasaki, Tesla ]

[ Shuumatsu no Valkyrie / Records of Ragnarok ]

Its funny because the other day I was thinking on how losing a child affect so much the parents and their relasionship

Maybe this isn't my best writing, is just that my personal situation is getting in the way, sorry 😔

Buddha

Buddha loves you with all his heart without being egoist nor possessive, he loves you for how you are so he loves you in your freedom too

Buddha doesn't really think on forming a family with you until after a long time of you two being in a relationship, that doesn't mean he won't like to do so, is just that for a while he is just focused on enjoying all the time you two have together, also because if you two decide to have a child it has to be because both of you want it and are willing to take on that responsibility

Once you two finally have a child Buddha is ecstatic, forming a family with the person he loves the most is something that totally brings joy to his life

Buddha had learned to take death as part of life and he had already lose someone really important in his life a long time ago, still that doesn't make less painful the moment he lose his child. Buddha is deeply hurt and sad for losing his little child, if it was while they were just a baby or toddler it bothers him because his baby didn't had the opportunity to enjoy their life, but if they were older it sadden him but he hold all the memories he has with them close to his heart and just wish to have the opportunity to see him in another life

If his child has died by a disease it take him less time to deal with the grief because since the start he knew that this was a posibility, however if it was murdered or died in a accident of some kind Buddha is more angry and frustrated for not being able to do anything to prevent it. If there is someone to blame Buddha will just make them pay if they cross his path again, he doesn't want to focus on that because he has more important things in his mind, for example you

For his part Buddha deal with the grief pretty well, he let himself feel the sadness of his lost and slowly heal his broken heart with time and patience, easily (but not exactly quickly) reaching a point where he can think on his child with love and a little melancoly, and not being induced by pain and sadness

The fact that Buddha is living his own grief doesn't mean that he will leave you alone with yours, Buddha tries to help you at the best of his habilities, not as the enlightened but as your partner, as someone who is dealing with the same situation as you

He doesn't like leaving you alone, he rather prefer to just sit by your side in complete silence, only if you really need time to yourself he will let you alone, reasuring you that he is with you and you can count on him for everything, you are not alone

Buddha more than ever likes to hold you close and cuddle you for a while, anytime you are feeling specially down for your lost Buddha just hold you close and let you cry all you need, or even just staying like that for as long as you need

If you start to fall into a more depresive state Buddha start to take care of you, he knows that this isn't easy to deal and if it affected you that much he should do nothing more than support you at the best of his habilities, however he will make sure it doesn't reach a dangerous and unhealthy point, if you got near that he will stop you

Buddha doesn't like the idea of argumenting with you about this, you two should be supporting each other, if you start argumenting with him he more likely will let you alone to calm down or offering you to heard you vent without having to argument with him, as well as trying to reason with you

With some time and patience you two will be able to get over this, maybe the pain doesn't go away but you two will learn to live with it, together

Buddha has already achived peace of mind living even after everything he had passed on his life, still living in the Valhalla is really peaceful and he apreciate that he is able to be there with you, without having to worry about things of the human world, still one thing that he loves the most of being there is that he can see his beloved child again, the first moment he saw them it was shocking, but in a good way, it take him a moment to understand what were happening before running to hug them with tears on his eyes

Jack the Ripper

Jack is sure that he loves you will all his heart and being, as the time pass he is just more and more in love with you, even if you two fall into a monotone routine over the years is something that he appreciate dearly in his heart

The idea of starting a family with you is something that excited him but make him nervous too, he hadn't has the best childhood but he doesn't complain either, however he doesn't want for his child to suffer from what he suffered, still he is willing to have a child with you if you want it too

Finally having a child with you make him soft, it make him feel like he is just a normal man with his family, it make him forget all the difficulties that he had in his life

Jack is pretty used to death, it has been close to him all his life, still that doesn't mean that losing his own child won't hurt, because it does and a lot, it doesn't matter if it was just a baby or he had the bless to spend years with them, it still broke his heart

If his child died by a disease there isn't much he could have done and still he had done everything in his power to help his child, but if they were murdered or even by an accident where there is someone to blame Jack will be so hurt that he will take out all his anger on the culprit without thinking twice

As much as it hurts him Jack doesn't forget about you, he knows that he still have you and that this is a lost for you too, so he want to help you, Jack want to be able to heal his broken heart and reach the future by your side

Jack may seem calm and composed, almost like if this situation doesn't affect him but that is far from the truth, he is incredibly sad but he is the type to deal with his emotions in a indirect way, being able to just be with you and bring you comfort helps him too. It could be that it makes you mad how little he express his sadness, but if you want he will tell you how hurt he is, if it makes you feel more at ease he will let you see more how truly affected he is

He let you cry all you need, he even cry with you the first times, he never tell you that you are overreacting or that you should stop crying, only you knows how much this hurts you so he isn't going to stop you from expressing your feelings (unless it start to turn unhealthy, like become a deep depression or you start to develop unhealthy habits)

Jack totally understand if you need time alone or not wanting to see anyone at all, he let you stay all by yourself, in the meantime he can deal with his own grief by his own too, however Jack try to help you stay healthy, making sure you eat properly and get out to take some fresh air from time to time

Even if you prefer to be alone or don't want to talk to anyone Jack reminds you every day that he is still there with you AND for you, you can rely on him too since he understand what you are going through, he reminds you every day that he still loves you and even when he is heart broken he isn't planning on leaving you

Jack doesn't like argumenting with you, he understand that you are frustrated and angry for everything that happened but it would be better in this situation to be united supporting each other, he normally let you vent and reason with you but he will get defensive if you ever try to put the blame on him or something like that

As dificult as it can be Jack isn't going to let you alone, Jack had already lose his child and he doesn't want to lose you too, so he tries to deal with the grief by your side, without forcing you to move forward but without leaving you behind

Despite everything Jack doesn't regret his life, he had some troubles but a lot of good things happened to him too. He never thought much in the afterlife but still he is happy to spend it in such beautiful place, but more important is that he is happy to be able to share it with you and his child, the child he lost so long ago and missed so much. The moment he saw his beloved child Jack can't react and just stare at them shocked, he get into his senses until his child take his attention again, making his smile softly to them

Sasaki Kojiro

Sasaki is a really loving person with his partner and even when you two left the honeymoon phase of your relationship or when it had already you have already spent several years together the loves he holds for you doesn't decreases or fades, Sasaki happily falls into a comfortable rutine with you

Sasaki doesn't really think much in starting a family with you but it isn't like he is opposed to the idea, so even if you are the one who brings the idea of doing it he is totally up for it, and once he stops to actually think on it it make him feel fuzzy inside, the feeling that the idea of forming a family with the person he loves the most bring him is similar to when you two started to date

When you two finally form your own family he is completely excited for it, almost like a child with a new toy he is full of innocent joy

However, the cruel destiny had other plans and after a while you two end up losing your beloved child. If is by a disease Sasaki will be incredibly sad, however he had done everything in his power to help them, after the lost he will be just craving for your comforting company, however if it happened by an accident or even they being murdered it would be more difficult to process for him, he had trained so hard and become so stronger and still he wasn't able to protect the ones he loves the most

Sasaki is dealing with his lost by his own, still he likes to ask you how you are and sometimes he craves for your comfort (he knows he can't ask you to be alright in this moment so is more likely comforting each other). He also resorts to training to distract himself of everything and letting out all his frustration and sadness with it

Sasaki is more the type to deal with his emotions by his own so he totally understand when you need time to yourself or that you have your own ways to deal with the grief, so most of the time he let you deal with it in the way you need it, however if he feels like you shouldn't be alone or that you directly express that you want his company he just stay by your side (probably cuddling), and he never do it forced or unwillingly

If you start to fall into a depresive state he will panics a little, he noticed by the unhealthy habits you start to get or you clearly down expression, it scare him because he doesn't want to lose you too and he may be a little pushy at first, motivated by his fear (that probably could lead you two to have some arguments) however it doesn't take him long to calm down and think on a better way to help you, help the two of you

Is just a matter of time for Sasaki to start to feel better, he is still sad by his lost, it still hurt but he start to want to continue, so if in that moment you still strugle with your grief he is completely willing to help you at the best of his habilities

Sasaki doesn't like to argument with you about all this situation, he is hurt too and he is sad too but he doesn't like to take it out in you (that is why he train so much), so if you ever start an argument or seem specially angry/frustrated he prefers to let you alone so you can calm down or heard you vent but he won't really accept for you to take it out on him (let alone blame him)

It isn't going to be easy but after some time you two will be able to get over it, and despite everything Sasaki still loves you and doesn't want to lose you, you are too important to him and he wants to give a try to continue being with you, he doesn't want to give up in your relationship

Sasaki was surprised when he first wake up in the Valhalla, however he isn't going to complain about being in such an amazing place, he can be lazy sometimes so he will spend a while just relaxing, specially after finding you, you two doesn't have to worry about anything else anymore so why don't just enjoy it? However the moment he has the opportunity to see his child again Sasaki needs a moment to fully understand that this is happening, Sasaki dealt with his grief pretty well and still when he see them again he is completely excited, almost immediatly running to them, picking them up while laughing excitedly and starting to cry a little for the overwhelming happiness. Sasaki wants to continue with his training and become stronger but it won't happen in a long time because right now he wants to focus in his beloved family

Nikola Tesla

Dating Tesla could be a little troublesome for how much he is into his work, still that doesn't mean that your relationship can't work, after a while you two can easily come into the terms where you two spend some time together and can continue with his work, also no matter how much time you two spend together his love for you continue being really stronge and he loves doing things for you

Tesla doesn't think much on the future but at least once the idea of forming a family with you appears in his mind and he isn't opoused to the idea, he will love to do so but for him isn't obligatory, if you want to have a family he will love to do it and almost imediatly start planning and thinking in your future family, if you don't or aren't interested on it he is totally fine with it

When you two finally have a child he is totally ecstatic, Tesla can't stop smiling and braging about his beloved family, he spends a lot of time with both for a while before getting to his work again (and probably to create something for you two)

Losing his child will hurt him a lot, he had already lost someone really important in his life back in a young age and this is as hurtful as that moment, it doesn't matter how old his child were or if it was for a disease or an accident (if it was killed he will want justice, but it doesn't go far from that)

Tesla doesn't handle too well with the grief, he tries to stay optimistic and with an smile saying that he just holds the memories he has with his child close to his heart and he will never forget them, Tesla doesn't show much how hurt he is or how much he miss his child, not even to himself, he prefers to stay stronge and optimistic for both

One unhealthy way Tesla has to deal with the grief is putting his whole attention to his work, he doesn't handle too well whit this overwhelming feelings so he stays in the confort zone of his study, but in the process he start to let you aside, not because he doesn't love you anymore but because he doesn't find a way to help you when he can't handle his own emotions

Tesla doesn't like argumenting with you, let alone over all this situation, it breaks his heart so he prefer to avoid argumenting and just talk in a more calm manner, so normally just let you vent (he won't really blame him for something, but if you point out how much he concentrate in his work it will affect him)

However, even Tesla has a breaking point, it would take him a while since he is pretty hopeful and cheerful but at some point he will break down and start crying over his lost (specially for how bad you are feeling, when you start to get depresive he start fearing losing you), in that moment he will let it out all what he is feeling, he finally talks about how much he miss his child, how hurt and sad he feels, how much he regret not being able to do more for his beloved child, but, more important, how happy is for still having you, even when you are so sad and hurt too you continue being the light of his life, he tells you how much he loves you and admit that if he has been so stronge is because he has you by his side

From that breaking point you two will have the opportunity to start the healing process, from the lost and from all that you two had been through, but know you could do it together. Tesla doesn't want to lose you too and he wants to make it up for all this time he has been ignoring his feelings, for you and for himself, so now he is more determinante to help you and let himself live the grief and stay together

Tesla never thought much in what will come after dead he just enjoys all the life he had, Tesla doesn't regret his life, he is happy of all he had done and achived, still when he wakes up in the Valhalla he is happy for being there. The Valhalla is a really peaceful and beautiful place and he is eager to explore it, however before doing it he wants to spends a lot of time with you and with your child, just as he did when he was alive, he wants to spend all the time he couldn't in the past with his child. The moment he saw his child again he is completely ecstatic and waste no time before running to their side

Well, let's get back to the subject of baby Percy's teething.

I remember that in the last posts on the subject we talked about the idea of Percy accidentally causing a zombie apocalypse by biting Hades' bident

I imagine the following situation:

Poseidon has some official business, like maybe he needs to show up at a meeting with the other sea gods (or maybe just kill someone) and needs to take the trident along with him

He leaves Percy with Hades, like the good uncle he is, he quickly realizes the inconsolable state Percy is in due to not being able to bite his favorite "chewing toy", so he sanitizes it and hands over his weapon

When Poseidon returns and they realize how successful the exchange of the trident for the bident was, they reach an agreement in which whenever Poseidon needed his weapon, he would leave Percy with Hades

The deal was a win-win for everyone except the humans who are now alternating between zombie apocalypse and biblical-style tsunami apocalypse

Buddha, Hercules and the Valkyries are desperately trying to find a perfect replacement teething toy to prevent the destruction of humanity, they choose the best toys and go to meet Baby Percy (they have previously arranged a meeting with Poseidon)

They try, they TRY REALLY hard to attract baby Percy's attention to one of the toys but the effort fails, when hope seems lost baby Percy stretches out his little hands to try and catch it...

THE WEAPONS of Buddha and Hercules, she is drooling and alternating her gaze between the weapons with big, hopeful eyes full of desire, the two gods look at each other and realize that there is only one solution that does not result in the death of humanity:

Their weapons are baby Percy's newest teethers and from that moment on Poseidon started to carry three divine weapons (the trident and Percy's two divine teethers)

The two were without their weapons for the next few years, at least now humanity isn't being destroyed with every bite baby Percy takes.

It would be really funny if at every future meeting of gods the two of them just stared at baby Percy nibbling on the weapons as if they were the tastiest sweets in existence, it would be a pretty hilarious thought that baby Percy accidentally confiscated the weapons of two gods

And in the future when she looks at her baby photo album she will think:

WHAT THE FUCK!?

the image of poseidon lugging around not only his baby and his giant ass trident, but TWO OTHER BIG WEAPONS AS WELL makes me crack up 😭😭 especially since heracles' weapon is literally a big ass club 💀

to prevent injury (cuz some of there weapons have sharp and dangerous points!!!), i totally see poseidon buying a bunch of those foam cubes and jabbing them with the sharp tips to babyproof it. 😂

As promised to @maidofdarkness23, here is the first of several breakdowns on the villains of Skulduggery Pleasant.

The Villains of Skulduggery Pleasant

We start at the beginning, in Phase 1, Book 1 (which doesnt have a subname as far as I know, its only titled Skulduggery Pleasant).

Ready?

Nefarian Serpine

Certified best villain ever (I am not biased).

Alright, so first of all:

We are talking about Book 1, the beginning of the series and a book that (in comparison to all the others) is still working with a world that hasnt been established, ideas that arent entirely fixed yet and vibes that are still a little different.

Nefarian Serpine - for all his flaws - embodies this hard. He is almost larger than life in the first book, a reputation that he doesnt really hold in his other Leibnitz dimension appearances. In comparison to every other villain of the week, he lives in an ellaborate, gothic castle filled with hollow papermen and everytime the castle is described, the accompanying thunder and dark clouds are implied.

He never has much screentime, but Dereks perspective style writing lends him just enough depth that his cartoonishness turns sinister and plotting. His interactions with Bliss showcase a man that is deeply aware of his wrongdoings and yet consistently smiles into the face of distrust and hatred. This man knows how to play the game. He is too sure of himself, which makes reading about his movements and actions so full of dread. The question is not only "What has he done in his past?" but the much worse question of "What is he actually doing right now?"

How far will he go, surrounded in his castle by papermen, alone, twirling a wine glass.

In essence, Serpine is a silly villain, so cladden in clichés and stereotype that he is almost larger than the sum of his parts. His shadow is bigger than his body.

The first book establishes that he alone is the reason for Skulduggery Pleasants misery, loss of wife and child, as well as skin and body. A traumatic position that (afaik) no other villain even so much as came close to. The stakes are - of course - world saving level, but they also hold a personal pain that very few following villains in Phase 1 come close to.

In terms of atrocities commited against Skulduggery, hes probably second to none. Even China just followed his lead and never actually plotted or - worse - put them into motion.

The interest in most other villains comes down to

A) saving the world.

B) some kind of moral or ethical conundrum about the world of sorcerers.

But very rarely

C) literally facing the root of your trauma (for Skulduggery) or establishing a root (for Valkyrie).

(Quick Sidenote: Serpines death signifies both Skulduggeries "closure" with his old self and Valkyries acceptance of her new self. Once again, Serpine is not only a foil but also a catalyst).

It is also a great setup to reveal Skulduggerys less heroic sides: His wrath and his care for Valkyrie and Valkyrie alone. The two things that would, throughout the whole series, stay consistent.

Serpine is foil to Skulduggery in even more ways than that, revealing that the same cocksureness and self importance is an incredibly annoying feat in literally anyone else. Going up against Skulduggery must be infuriating, because going up against Serpine definitely is.

And hes also funny.

Have I mentioned how fucking funny Serpine is? Wanting to turn Skulduggery into a piano, absolutely able to hold his wit against the onslaught of insults and quibs exchanged.

Its also important to distinguish this Serpine from the Leibnitz Serpine. His Leibnitz equivalent foils a Skulduggery and Valkyrie that are much further along on their way to madness - he acts just enough like his original (after all, its only been like, what... Six? Seven? books?) but there are still some differences. I'll get to that. Someday.

Back to OG Serpine.

What do we have so far?

Serpine is an almost cartoonish assortment of tropes (the hand, the castle, the general vibe) but somehow, it works. Hes just a little "more" than his tropes, alluding to a three dimensionality he doesnt actually posess, but we have enough to believe it to be there.

He is clearly a product of the series not being established, which explains his constant later downplays (him being the weakest between Vengous, Vile and Serpine for example is only established long after Vengous and Serpine are dead).

He is the most personal villain that the Duo - and especially Skulduggery - face and its hilarious, that its literally the first book.

He is in so many ways exactly like Skulduggery. Full of himself, magically skilled beyond sense, insane (Im looking at you, Faceless Ones Dimension), obsessed with his own aesthatics, also literally a former Mevolent Higherup/Endboss/what do you even call that, witty, sarcastic, smart and able to plot etc. Etc.

He is both the door finally closing for Skulduggery and the door being blasted open for Valkyrie.

We'll come back to him, dont worry. His weirdass villain castle is used by Scarab and Billy-Ray in another book and he plays a passive role even after his death (like the opinions of the Dead Men, China Sorrows trauma, etc.) and even an active role as his Leibnitz replacement.

Solid 10/10 villain.

what are your gwynriel headcanons/expectations for their book? 💙

I think we'll see Az and Gwyn deal with the Illyrians for sure and he'll eventually make peace with them as they'll eventually come around to the idea of and respect female warriors.

I think Gwyn will call Narben from the sea as well as the manuscript / small book Cassian threw in there and the information written in it will be important for them.

I'm thinking maybe Gwyn will tie Az up with his own shadows (since his shadows seem to respond to Gwyn) for their first time together. Not only does it give Gwyn the control in a situation where the control was taken from her but it fits in with what I think SJM might find kinky.

I used to think maybe Az would be into tying people up with his shadows and maybe he did that with the "lovers" he's taken over the years since we know he doesn't like "hand to hand combat" (meaning he doesn't like anyone touching him during sex) but I wonder if he's truly the dominant type in bed when it comes to someone he cares for. His mother was a servant and that's something he's struggled with so I feel like it wouldn't fit his history to demand a female bend to his will. Dominatrix Gwyn could definitely work 😁

I think Gwyn may end up being a cousin of Eris and Lucien's and she'll want to establish a relationship with them (as she has no remaining blood family) and that will cause an uncomfortable setup for Az who thinks neither Eris or Lucien are worth much (also wouldn't it be funny if the tables were turned and Lucien then wonders if AZ is good enough for his family? 😂) . This could also create a bit of conflict between she and Az which I think will be necessary because SJM has never done friends to lovers without them hitting a few bumps along the way.

Complete headcannon but I kind of love the thought of Az (and not Gwyn like Anti's like to claim) being the one SJM spoke of in SF as having one face while secretly hiding another. That his "beautiful" outward appearance hides an actual monster of sorts that comes out around enemies and Gwyn's song will be the thing that brings him back. That she'll have no problem with the monster being let out of the cage so to speak but she can call him back to her when he's about to lose himself.

I do think Gwyn has siren powers that she will use against their enemies. To me, that has nothing to do with her luring others in sexual way and is more along the lines of Rhys and Feyre being able to control others with their daemati powers. (Feyre was able to force Ianthe to pick up a rock and smash her hand so Gwyn being able to use her song to influence others to say, walk off a cliff, is really no different).

I definitely think there's going to be some sort of showdown between Merrill and Gwyn, that maybe Merrill is a bit of a villain that Gwyn will have to bring down but even when she does, it might be too late because by that time Merrill will have reached out to any remaining Asteri on other worlds and that will set up an even bigger threat to the characters of ACOTAR (leading into a multi series battle done in a multi POV beyond the traditional romance spin-offs).

I think Gwyn will suspect their bond first. She's the first full fae SJM has ever had as a possible FMC with a POV (even Aelin was only 1/4 fae) so she probably grew up on stories of the mating bond like Rhys, Cassian, and Az did. Az is so messed up over not having gotten a bond with Mor and realizing that his two brothers got one with two sisters while Lucien (not a brother) got one with the third, that I think he's completely clueless as to what's staring him in the face.

She'll definitely meet Az's mother though I'm not sure if they'll try to convince her to come back to Velaris.

I think they will end up living in the townhouse together.

I think we will eventually see Gwyn / the Valkyries in battle riding Pegasus but before that happens I think someone needs to figure out how to bring back their food source to the island where the Prison sits and figure out the illness that has prevented them from delivering foals (maybe an Elain plot?).

And that's that. 😂 For now at least.

I believe a part of why Azriel held himself back in the blood rite and tried not to save Gwyn is that the blood rite signifies something bigger than romance.

The whole journey solidified Gwyn’s growth. Showed us her bravery and determination.

Azriel may not have said it verbally but when Cassian described his look towards Gwyn, which was admiration, proves more to this point.

Like Rhys wanted to see Feyre grow out of the shell she had become. Same goes for Azriel.

He believes in her. Them. Also believes that this isn’t just about the blood rite, it’s to prove to all the Illyrian men that they are what they claim to be, a strong Valkyrie. If he or anyone stepped in ignoring the rule. It would not only make the girls lose credit but also a part of the journey they are walking in.

That’s why Azriel says what he says.

To believe in them and what the both of them have taught the girls.

And as for the Elriels who say it is funny how we ship them because Azriel didn’t care to show any reaction towards Gwyn during this, let’s just state the facts,

That was war.

There were no rules. Or any kind of deadline for the war. The contrast is night and day.

And most importantly Elain was in the enemy camp with no idea how to defend herself and alone.

But in the blood rite there were 3 of them. Trained by two of the strongest warriors of Prythian. And they had Nesta. Like she was walking God of death at the moment.

So yeah Azriel had faith in them. Like cmon give the girls some credit.

E/riel’s keep changing/backtracking the plot for Elain. First, it’s she’ll go to the Prison and help find the Dread Troves, and become High Lady/High Queen of Dusk. Then, it’s she’ll be a spy with Azriel and once again hunt down Dread Troves. And now, she’ll conquer Ramiel and be involved with the Illyrians/Illyrian plot. However, didn’t E/riel’s say that Illyria was done after ACOSF and SJM isn’t going back to it?🤡 the backtracking is funny.

E/riel’s care about Elain’s story, but they keep changing the narrative to where her journey/plot fits Azriel’s. And realistically, their plots are completely different. Some E/riel’s are just now trying to claim they came up with the idea of Elain defeating Koschei, even though Elucien’s and Gwynriel’s have been saying this for a while. Elain’s plot will be Koschei and Azriel’s will be Illyria and MAYBE the queens/Autumn. If the mortal queen and Autumn Court are tied into his plot I think it would be because Gwyn is involved, but I’m not sure.

Listen given that some of those great minds came up with Balthazar is Elain theory nothing surprises me anymore .... 😅😅😅

As far as plot lines go if I were to guess :

Azriels book - Illyria, made weapons , Autumn will be the plot lines with a Gwynriel centric romance and Emorie sub plot romance.

Elains Book - Human queens, Koschei, Day court and Spring will be the plot with an Elucien centric Romance and Jassa sub plot romance.

Am I a 100% sure ? No ... but at the moment it looks like it .... I would be interested to see if she mixes any more of the world walking stuff ...the likely candidate from the ACOTAR world being Nesta.

Dread Troves and weapons, Prison and Valkyries will always always be Nesta's plot lines.... people can stop borrowing it or perhaps just write wonderful fanfics that stans can enjoy... I have read some brilliant Gwynriel fanfics with koschei as the central plot line .... its fun and so well written .... so by all means ... but as far SJM goes I doubt she would ever mix Troves and Elain...

Valkyrie x Fem!Reader

Summary: You've got some cuts and bruises on your face and Valkyrie is determined to help you.

Warnings: Cursing, lots of fluffy fluff, reader has medium to long hair?, hurt/comfort, terrible editing

Word Count: 1700

A/N: This is quite possibly my favorite character I’ve ever written for. I love Valkyrie and she deserves more love. Please enjoy and let me know what you think! <3

“What is that there on your face?”

You were currently standing in front of your bathroom mirror, getting ready for bed, when Valkyrie’s voice rang through the air. Through the mirror, you could see her standing there with her arms crossed and eyebrows drawn tight. You thought she wasn’t supposed to be back from her mission until tomorrow.

You huffed out an exhausted breath and attempted to hide the cuts and bruises adorning your face behind your curtain of hair. “Hey, you’re home. I didn’t think you’d be back until tomorrow night.”

All you got was the same remarkable glare and steadily growing impatience from her with every breath you took.

You sighed, defeated. “Nothing. It’s nothing, really.”

Her head tilted to the side mockingly. “Oooh, right. So, let me guess, those purple spots and red slices across your face, is what, just paint? Or no, maybe it’s food from supper?”

You rolled your eyes at her dramatics. “Vee, please. I’m tired, can we talk about this in the morning? I’ve missed you.”

The ridicule in her face melted, turning into one of disbelief. “Are you serious right now?”

Turning away from the sink to face her, giving her a full look at the messy array of your face, you gave her a tentative smile. “Um, yes, please?”

She threw her arms out from their crossed position, exasperated. After a paused moment, she started to take quick steps closing the gap between you. “No. Absolutely not.” Valkyrie reached to put both of her hands on your face.

In response, you tried to bat away her inspection, but one sharp glance from her had you stopping your assault.

You scowled at her, but your chest filled with warmth at her attention. A small smirk worked its way onto Val’s face. “You’re cute when you’re trying to act put off.”

“I’m not trying to do anything. I am put off,” You grumbled under your breath.

Since you both were so close, Valkyrie heard your words, loud and clear, but she wisely decided not to comment further.

In her close examination of your face, she poked a particularly gnarly bruise on your cheekbone, which caused you to let out a yelp.

“Whoops. Just trying to make sure it’s not actually really paint or food.”

Your scowl deepened. “Har-Har.”

Amusement flitted across her eyes, loosening the scrunch of her eyebrows. “I can see you don’t find it very amusing, but I thought it was quite funny.”

You knew this little routine well. Ever since Valkyrie lost her sisters to the death goddess, Hela, her willingness to be openly emotional wasn’t very often. But something, in particular, sparked in her when anything happened to you. Always the protector, your Vee.

When you decided to speak next, your voice was sincere, “I am fine, you know. I’m not going to kneel over from a couple of scratches and bumps.”

Valkyrie chose to ignore that. She let her fingers lightly dust across your forehead where you knew a particularly bad pair of scratches lay. “These need to be cleaned to keep from possible infection.” You opened your mouth to protest, but she held up a finger in front of your face. “And no arguing. If you want to do something useful with your mouth, I have some ideas, but until then, keep it shut, yes?”

Your eyebrows raised in surprise at her bluntness, but you couldn’t help the smile that bloomed across your mouth. Valkyrie rolled her eyes at your goofy, lovesick grin and grabbed your wrist, and led you to the toilet seat. She gestured down to it. “Sit.”

And you sat. Because in the end, fighting her was nearly pointless when it came to things like this.

Valkyrie turned away to reach into the medicine cabinet. She mumbled to herself as she searched, “No, no. Definitely, not. Uh.. oh, is that? No…,” and then, finally, an “Ah, ha! Gotcha,” flooded the air, and you knew she finally found the first aid kit.

She turned to you with a proud smile, holding up the white plastic box. “I got it.”

You arched an eyebrow at her and deadpanned, “Yeah, honey, I can see that.”

It was her turn to scowl at you, which caused an unexpected laugh to breach past your lips.

“Oh, so this you laugh at, but at my jokes, it’s crickets.”

“No, because that was actually funny.” Those brown eyes rolled, again, at your expense.

Valkyrie made her way back over to you and crouched down between your legs, so she could easily tend to your wounds. You frowned, another futile protest getting ready to break your lips, but once more Valkyrie beat you to it.

Her eyes were unusually soft as she spoke, “Just let me take care of you. Please.” A leak of desperation found its way into her voice, making your heart tug in your chest. You dipped your head in resignation.

Valkyrie put her hand beneath your chin and pushed your head back up so that your eyes were looking into hers. She let one finger stroke over your cheekbone and then drag a path down your cheek to your collarbone. “I do care, you know. I care a lot about you. So, just let me take care of my girl. Just this once without any further fighting.”

Well, fuck. When she said shit like that, how the hell were you supposed to deny her?

You leaned down to push a kiss onto her cheek. “I know you care, Vee. You don’t have to tell me, baby. I got you.”

You dramatically clasped your hands together and sat straighter. “Okay, doc. I’m ready. Just tell it to me straight. Am I gonna make it?”

The raw vulnerability scribbled across Valkyrie’s face washed away into elation. A loud laugh boomed into the room, her head throwing back with the action. You beamed with pride at the noise.

When she finally pulled herself together, she let out a hum. “Oh, god. I do hate to tell you, but I think you might just…live.”

You shook your head, mock horror covering your features. You ducked your head down into her shoulder, wincing a little when the cuts hit Valkyrie’s shoulder bone. “No. No, say it isn’t true!”

You pulled your head back to see Valkyrie reaching into the idle first aid kit, she shook her head solemnly as she pick up an alcohol wipe. “I’m afraid so. There isn’t much we can do but to let you live.”

You gasped teasingly, but when Valkyrie went and swiped the wipe across your forehead, you really did gasp, for real. “Hey! Ow! A little heads up there, speedy Gonzalas, jeez.”

For the third time, Valkyrie rolls her eyes, amused. “Oh, don’t be such a cry baby. It’s just a little stinging.”

You pouted, letting your bottom lip pop out. “Tell that to my aching forehead.”

Valkyrie didn’t answer you, just put her hand on your knee and started rubbing comforting circles there. That little action soothed you more than any words could’ve.

Val went to reach for the ointment next, to most likely over-apply on your face like a moisturizer of sorts, when she finally asked you the question you’d been waiting to hear.

“So, how exactly did you wind up getting these cuts and bruises?”

“Mmm, I uh, fell. I fell down- fell down a flight of stairs.”

Valkyrie’s lips pursed in false interest. “A flight of stairs, you say?”

You quickly nodded as she started to apply the ointment.

“Do these flight of stairs go along with the paint story or the food one? You know, just so I can keep track.”

You pretended to think for a moment. “I think the paint one would make more sense. I fell, and at the bottom of the steps were a bunch of paint cans which I crashed into, creating the mess on my face.”

Valkyrie’s hand went to the back of your neck squeezing lightly. “Just tell me. It’s not like I’m going to do anything drastic.”

Your face deadpanned and at your look, Val’s hands went up in surrender. “Fine. This time, I promise not to do anything unreasonable.”

You cocked an eyebrow at her, very easily picking up on her choice of words, but Valkyrie wasn’t budging. “Love, all I can promise is that it won’t be unreasonable.”

You sighed. You could either tell her now or face the consequences later. You let your eyes focus on her hand as she went to screw the cap back onto the ointment bottle. “Thor and I got into it.”

You saw her hackles raise instantly at the implication, but you were quick to amend. “We were sparring, and I accidentally dropped my spear, so the blunt end of his stick whacked up my face, hence the bruises. Then the scratches are from my forehead skimming the hilt of my astray spear when I fell.”

Valkyrie’s shoulders loosened at your words, but you could still see the fire in her eyes, and you knew that in a, perhaps not so, subtle way later, Thor would be paying for what happened.

You shook your head at her. “Don’t go too hard on him. For me, at least.”

She made sure her eyes were focused on putting everything away in the first aid kit. Her voice was reluctant, “....Fine.” That earned a giggle from you at her attitude.

After putting everything back into the aid box, she let her eyes sweep over your face once more. After she was satisfied that she disinfected and covered every small red area, she lightly cupped both of your cheeks and pecked your lips. “All done.”

She may have been done, but you certainly weren’t. You cupped her jaw and brought her back into you, giving her a deeper kiss. One you hoped told her how much you appreciated the affection and attention she gave you tonight.

When you both were sated with loving kisses and finally pulled away from each other, you saw the recognition in her eyes, the way she knew how deeply you really did care for her. And you knew she felt the same towards you, too.
