cocoa - if you could have any type of hair, what colour and cut would you have?
harvest - what fictional character do you most identify with? Why?
Thanks for the ask!
Cocoa - I'd dye my hair white again! I really liked it. I couldn't think of any color to dye it back when I did it the first time but I just wanted bleached hair yknow? So I bleached it and toned it and it looked soooo cool. As for cut? I dunno I like having shoulder length hair, but I also like having close cropped hair. I'd like a cut that magically switches between the two!
Harvest - probably Y(i)n Y(u) from He4v3n 0ff1cial's Bl€ss!ng (don't want this to show in the tags sorry). In short, he's someone who reached the pinnacle of his goals in his mortal life, ascended to godhood, worked diligently but was pushed out because even though he was someone incredible to be able to ascend, the standards of the common people (and by extention the heavens) were too high and his achievements were invalidated. After he fell from the heavens (not relevant here but he didnt fall out of mediocrity, he did something bad and got banished), he continues to show his capabilities but in a different setting. And he continues to just. Exist. In spite of achieving his ultimate goal of ascension. In spite of losing his goal. In spite of losing his acclaim, his connections, his glory. He continues to live and struggle and wish desperately to at least be able to be a good person. There's more to his character, but I just picked the parts that were similar. Oh and also he solves his interpersonal conflicts by either running away or whacking them upside the head with a shovel (literally)

cooking at 3am /// Osamu x f!Reader
Request: Imagine cooking together with Osamu at 3am because neither of you could sleep (or because ‘Samu got the midnight munchies lol). You don’t have anything specific in mind; you’re just playing around and feeding each other little bits of what you make.
A/N: bruh you said munchies and my mind said [[ h i g h o s a m u ]] sorry this went in a kinda different direction? but still fun 3am cooking project vibes :P
Tag/warnings: fluff, light drug use (weed), you and Atsumu are lowkey Bros™️, Osamu's kinda baby 🤧
Osamu’s not good at smoking.
He doesn’t really know how to inhale—you know, hold it in his lungs so it can soak in or whatever—and when he does, he coughs. Except he tries to repress the coughs. Even if he wants to hide it, he’s always close enough to you that you can feel his chest moving from trying not to cough when he takes a hit.
And also, like every baby smoker, he can’t really tell when it’s kicking in until he’s off the deep end.
“Can you feel it yet?”
“No.”
You shoot Osamu a glance where he’s sitting on the ground in front of the couch, watching a nature documentary on Atsumu’s TV with a glazed-over look on his face. “You sure? Your eyes are super red.”
“I can’t feel it. Give it—“ He holds out his hand and honestly you’re pretty sure he’s had plenty, but it’s Atsumu’s vape so who cares. You hand it over and Osamu holds it up to his mouth and sucks, eyes fluttering closed as the light on the side of the Pax glows yellow.
God, he looks hot when he does that. Something about a hot guy smoking, yeah? Actually, no. Something about your hot boyfriend smoking.
Except 'Samu holds his breath a second too long and you can see the urge to cough hit him… Wait for it, you think to yourself, and a second later he hacks and wheezes the vapor out in a wispy cloud that reflects silver against the semi-dark. You coo in sympathy and pat his back. “Want some water?”
Osamu shakes his head, hand over his mouth to stop the coughing. On the tv, David Attenborough talks about penguin courtship rituals and Atsumu (who’s been draped on the couch next to you for the past few hours) gives a light little sigh in his sleep. You check the time. 3am. Bedtime. Too bad you and 'Samu are both too high to drive home…whoops. Guess you’re spending the night at Atsumu’s place.
Osamu rubs his bloodshot eyes like they’re itchy, which they probably are. “Hey, can we— uhh… Do we have pancakes.”
“Pancakes, babe? You mean the ones you made for breakfast?”
“Yeah, there’s leftovers…I made you extra and you didn’t want them.” He twists around and gives you an incredibly dirty look, like this is something you did on purpose to hurt his feelings. “If you don’t want them I’m going to eat them.”
“Wait, 'Samu—“ But Osamu's already getting up off the floor to wander over to the next room. You debate pausing the show—it’s a really good scene—but you leave it going for Atsumu's sake because you’re pretty sure the narration is the only thing keeping him asleep. He’s kinda drooling on your shoulder and you have to push him off to go follow your boyfriend to the kitchen.
“What is all this stuff? Ugh…” Osamu's pawing through the fridge. There’s a lot of crinkling, plastic sounds—you catch a glimpse inside and all of the shelves are stacked up with plastic bags and styrofoam containers.
You yawn and hop up to sit on the kitchen island. “Takeout? I don’t think he cooks.” Atsumu's going to get a lecture tomorrow for keeping 2-week-old Indian food in his fridge. God knows you heard it way too many times before you and Osamu moved in together. You don’t envy 'Tsumu.
Osamu sits down in front of the fridge, fumbles with a drawer, and pulls out a bag of moldy grapes. “Gross…who lives like this…”
You snicker into your hand.
“I can’t find the pancakes.” 'Samu's pulling the plastic drawers all the way out now, setting them down on the floor as he inspects the contents of the fridge.
“They’re not here.”
“You ate them?”
“No, I— Hey, put those back in,” you tell him helplessly as he shuts the door of the fridge, ignoring all the leftover food he took out. Yeah, half of it was probably off anyway, but Atsumu's gonna be pissed if he wakes up and there’s takeout going bad all over his kitchen floor.
“You threw away my pancakes?” Now the look on Osamu's face is utter betrayal. He stands up off the floor and glares sulkily at you. “I made those for you…”
“I didn’t throw them away, they’re—“ You hold back a laugh and wish you had your phone on you (where did it go?) so you could take a picture. He’s so cute when he smokes. “—they’re at home.”
“At home?”
“Yep, at home. The place where you and me live, remember?”
“Oh.” Osamu pauses, reaches out absently to grab the edge of your sleeve. You’re wearing one of his hoodies. “We’re not at home?”
“Nope. We’re at Atsumu's place,” you tell him through a giggle.
He plays with your sleeve, contemplating. “Why?”
“Because we’re out of weed and he said he’d smoke us out. And we like hanging out with him.”
“Oh. We do?”
“Yes.”
“…’Kay.” It takes Osamu a second to accept this, but then he nods seriously. “(Y/N), I'm hungry.”
“I know. What do you want to eat? You could probably have any of that stuff, I don’t think he’ll miss it.”
'Samu thinks about it for a moment, scanning the array of takeout containers spread out across the kitchen floor. “I want pancakes.”
“The pancakes are at home, remember?”
“Yeah…” Osamu flips over his grip on your sleeve and traces his thumb down the lines in your palm. “I could make some?”
More pancakes? “I don’t think 'Tsumu has eggs, babe. Or flour. Or…baking soda?” You’re not really sure what ingredients go into pancakes. Whatever cooking skills you possessed pre-Osamu have deteriorated significantly since you moved in together and he took over any and all food preparation for your household.
He pouts at this, and his hair is a little messed up, and he’s so pretty that you can’t stand how much you like him in that second. Mine mine mine, something in the back of your brain says. He’s mine.
You reach up and Osamu obediently ducks his head down so you can smooth his hair back into place and fix the bits that are flipping over his part. “Is there anything else you want to eat?”
“Onigiri.”
“Oh…” Well, at least Atsumu probably has rice. “Sure. Ok. That’s your specialty.”
“I want ya to make it for me.”
“What?” You frown and pull your hand out of his. “You know my cooking sucks.”
“No it doesn’t. (Y/N)’s food’s the best.”
“You own an onigiri shop, come on—“
“Please?”
One of his bangs falls back in his eyes and without thinking you reach up to put it in place. “Okay, fine. But you can’t complain about it if it’s not good.”
He smiles and you want to blush. “Yes! I promise.”
So you do it for him. Even though you’re high too. You measure some rice and water into the rice cooker (Osamu has to give you pointers on how much of each to put in) and you scrounge around Atsumu's depressingly bare kitchen for a few sheets of seaweed and some easy fillings. Osamu pulls a stool up to the island counter and rests his chin on his hands so he can watch you with a bleary look of adoration on his face.
It takes you…maybe half an hour to be done? It’s hard to gauge time when you’re high. You and 'Samu both jump when the rice cooker finishes and plays the little rice cooker song, which will remain stuck in your head for the foreseeable future. 'Samu hums it in a loop while you shape the rice into lopsided triangles and wrap the nori around it.
“Here,” you tell him when you set the plate down in front of him. He looks entirely too happy to be eating your mediocre food for someone who literally does this for a living, but who cares.
He picks one, takes a bite, swallows. And blinks.
“What do you think?” you ask in spite of yourself.
“Umm…salty,” Osamu says.
You grab one to try yourself and it’s salty. Like, ocean salty. Yuck. “I told you it would be bad,” you complain, trying to tug the plate away but Osamu grabs it and pulls it back.
“Noooo…it’s good,” he lies, although his face is giving him away. Still, he takes another bite and chews enthusiastically.
“Shut up.” You tug a little harder but Osamu doesn’t let go.
He swallows, pulls a face, and takes another one. “So good. I love it.”
“Shut up. You sound so fake. You’re going to get sick if you eat that.” You keep pulling, but he insists on pretending it’s edible so you admit defeat and help him finish the onigiri off. God, they’re awful. But he keeps eating and so you do too.
When you’re done, your mouth feels dry as fuck and you want to sleep almost as much as you want to drink about a gallon of water. “Is it bedtime yet?” 'Samu asks, wiping his mouth and then rubbing his eyes again.
The clock over the oven says it’s past 4. “Yes. It’s bedtime.”
“Wait—we’re…we’re not at home, right? We’re at 'Tsumu's?”
“Mhm.”
“I prolly drove here…I dunno if I can drive now,” Osamu tells you slowly, like he’s apologizing. “I think I'm kinda high.”
“Oh yeah?” You hold your laugh back and put your hands up on his cheeks. “How do you feel?”
“Dizzy. Blurry? Like…you’re in slow-motion.” His hands come up to layer over yours. “You’re pretty in slow-mo.”
“Prettier than usual?”
Osamu closes his eyes, scrunching them up to think and then looking over your face intently. “Same amount, just slower. So it’s easier to see.”
“That so?” You slip your hands around to drape over his shoulders and get up on your tiptoes to give him a little kiss on the cheek, because he’s earned it. “You know what, I think I'm kinda high too. I think we’re going to have to have a sleepover.”
“On the couch? S’not big enough for us both.”
“You can sleep with 'Tsumu in his bed…or I guess you could sleep on the ground?”
'Samu's mouth twists and his brows draw together. You can practically hear the gears in his mind turning while he considers alternatives. “Can we share the bed?”
“I think Atsumu's gonna want it. It’s his house.”
“But he’s already sleeping.”
True, you can hear Atsumu snoring lightly from the living room underneath David Attenborough’s description of endangered falcons in the Philippine rainforest. You should really wake him up—matter of fact, you should really clean up the kitchen because it’s a huge mess—but 'Samu's already pulling you away. And you’re so sleepy.
“He’s going to be pissed tomorrow,” you tell Osamu through a yawn, but you let him steer you in the direction of Atsumu's bedroom, holding your hand.
“Don’t care…I hate sleeping without you.”
“Yeah,” you say, and you squeeze his hand and he looks back at you like you’re the literal best thing in the entire universe—and you decide you should get him high more often. “Same.”

I just want to know how you feel about supporting other fanfic writers. on tumblr theres such a huge emphasis put on reblogging fellow creator’s work to boost them. I understand how important that is but as a fairly big blog, do you feel that it is a responsibility on your shoulders to boost others? I ask u this not bc I want you to do anything, but bc I’m in the same position and I’m feeling very pressured to reblog all my mutual’s content. I’m torn between the whole “it’s my blog” view (aka I just want to log on, post and disappear. that’s all I want to do) and also “I have a debt to repay” bc I know how many people supported me when I started out. that being said...I didn’t expect it, and I still don’t expect interaction from anyone. whether some chooses to rb or like my content has never been a concern for me, but I know interaction is a HUGE thing for many writers here. idk I feel disingenuous for reblogging and hyping them up when I’m really not in the headspace for it...and i feel like I’m putting on some kind of front to my followers like I’m a slimy salesman. this might not make ANY sense hope, completely understand hahahah. if u do want to reply I would prefer this ask not to be posted publicly but yeah you’re under no obligation ofc! (2/2)
honestly i think this is a really good question that a lot of people try to navigate — and i would answer privately but because it’s an anon i can’t! however!
i think this is a great discussion to have because you raise a lot of really good points here and you’re not the first person to ask me about this!
it’s been an interesting culture shift — i have been writing on tumblr for well over four years now, so i’ve watched the algorithm slowly begin to kill written mediums steadily. with this, a lot of people started talking about the like to reblog difference and how to “properly support writers on tumblr”.
for me, interactions are interactions — seeing comments or reblogged comments are particularly lovely because it means someone enjoyed your work enough to take the time to talk to you about. same with asks about certain works! it’s incredibly lovely to see these things, read them, and interact with readers. for some, likes operate the same way. some people are just shy. maybe they don’t have time to send a whole literary analysis on the metaphor you used in paragraph eight. and that’s okay!
i think the tumblr obsession with notes and “boosting” fics has gotten a bit out of hand, and in my experience, i’ve noticed a few of the blogs behind these popular posts can be a bit fame-hungry. in reality, being popular on tumblr has little value, really. no money, a good amount of hate, but gain a strong community if you do it right that can be wonderful! that’s the best part - but sometimes these small writers push for a bit of virtue signaling in that you aren’t “supporting writers” if you don’t reblog to gain this. every other post is something about writing floppping, or how people on their tag list need to interact or they’ll be removed.
(yes, seriously i have gotten into beef with someone over this exact practice, just ask lauren.)
this is why i personally don’t like getting messages about “you should read (this fic) by (this writer)” and i get them a lot. it’s a weird feeling because they’re often without explanation, random, and on anon. it feels a lot like trying to game free exposure to 13k followers. i have set a standard where i don’t do fic recs, so i ignore these messages. and that’s just how i roll!
if you really want to support writers on tumblr, donate to their ko-fi’s. commission a writing piece. send them $5 on paypal. we really do this stuff for free. some people may want to be paid in “exposure” (i.e. reblogs) but those reblogs aren’t paying my bills so i dunno what they’re on about. to each their own, but paying for a coffee is the ultimate thank you.
personally, i operate from a standpoint of enjoyment. if i really enjoy a fic, i reblog it. like i’m talking jaw-hits-the floor really love it! i feel it’s important to be mindful if you’re going to do fic recs that you don’t reblog everything. unless you’re a blog specifically meant for that, or you run it that way!
again, everything i’m saying here is my personal take and my personal way of running my blog.
i have been doing this for a long time, with some mediocre success, and truly the worst writer’s block came when i worried about notes. i felt like i wasn’t creating content that was worth it. in reality, i was creating content i enjoyed, but the pressure of seeing those triple digit notes was putting a damper on my style.
giving content creators the thanks they deserve is important, but don’t feel as though it needs to be your full time job. small things go a long way, and a lot of us are immensely grateful for the tiniest of things.
i hope this helps you figure out how you wanna navigate this tricky landscape.

I was tagged by @rvspberryjvm !! Thank you so much 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💘💘💘
1. why did you choose your URL?
it's a line from a NIN song, 'I do not want this' that got stuck in my mind long ago. It says 'I've lived so many lives. All in my head' and the moment i heard it I thought yes. Sums me up and my inability to do reality pretty well.
2. any side-blogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.
yep. a few. i've got @withoneheadlight, where i spend most my time here, in my beloved harringrove fandom <3, and then i have a few where i basically save things that interest me in different categories.
3. how long have you been on tumblr?
uh, technically a few years?. I've had a few different accounts that I always ended up forgetting about. But had never really used tumblr until this past last year and a half.
4. do you have a queue tag?
I use the most simplistic 'queue' ... when I remember to put it on XD (which, I should, because I'm always so worried people think I'm in here ignoring them when in reality what I usually have is the longest queue)
5. why did you start your blog in the first place?
this one used to be my inspiration sterek blog for a fic I was writing at that time (4 years ago?) so there's basically all sterek at the bottom. but now I have @ivoryhead for that and this one has become my personal blog, since is my main.
6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?
because billy hargrove in profile + light blue + a distant, cool sun? one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen. also, it has some sort of melancholy that just, gets to me.
7. why did you choose your header?
because that's Cannon Beach, where a few scenes from the goonies were filmed, and where are the rocks carved into the doubloon. I always end up mixing the goonies in everything I do because gosh, I'd live in the feeling of that movie if I could choose. 80s kids + pirate stories. doesn't get better than that for me.
8. what’s your post with the most notes?
oh, i dunno? probably is this dumb star wars/stormpilot comment xD
9. how many mutuals do you have?
I honestly don't know, but they all are amazing mutuals <3
10. how many followers do you have?
tbh i really like how tumblr doesn't show the follower count? i LOVE the ones i have (hiiiiiiiiiii!!! 😘😘😘) and it's always 🎉🎉🌟🌟🌟🎉🎉🎉 getting new followers but i still think is better that is hidden, for many different reasons.
11. how many people do you follow?
about 1000? Im just too lazy to go through my big-ass list and unfollow watever is inactive xD
12. have you ever made a shitpost?
if saying the first stupid thing that comes to my head in here is considered a shit post, then t o o m a n y.
13. how often do you use tumblr each day?
I love to check it bc is kinda like hanging around with all of you 🎉🎉 but I've been trying to reduce the number of times i do it bc i get eaaaaaasily distracted and also, neck pain ugh. phone bad BAD!
14. did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? who won?
nope. never. sometimes i want to leave my opinion in some posts, but i still feel pretty insecure about the language, so i'm perpetually afraid of being misunderstood
15. how do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts
the ones with something good/bad is gonna happen if you don't reblog? i usually scream internally while i fast-scroll past them while both feeling like bwahhahaha! and scared shitless.
16. do you like tag games?
oh i LOVE tag games.
17. do you like ask games?
very very much. even if sometimes i repent bc it's hard for me to find the time to answer them xD.
18. which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
Idk but @chichipafarolillos is my personal superstar 💞💞💞💞💞
19. do you have a crush on a mutual?
No crush but I really really 💗💗💗💗 my mutuals.
20. tags?
(forgot to publish this so you'all have probably been tagged already but!)

Too Cheesy
Gender: Female
Pairing: Peter Parker x reader
Warnings: Sickening fluff and insanely cheesy pick up lines.
Summary- Ned agrees to stay at Peter's house and help him find the perfect pickup line to ask out his crush with before spring break. But what happens when his crush tags along and also wants to help? ---------------------------------------
Tumblr media
"Nah Peter, too corny."
Peter Parker was standing in the middle of his room, his best friend Ned sitting on his bed, cradling their death star in his hands. Peter scrolled down the screen of his phone. "Okay, how about this one?" After reading, Peter looked to the wall and gave a smug smirk, as if he were actually looking at someone. "Hey [Y/N]... are you religious? 'Cause you’re the answer to all my prayers."
Ned cocked his head to the side. "Is she religious?"
"I dunno, I never really asked before," Peter answered, breaking out of his assumed position.
Ned scrunched his nose a bit. "Well, we probably should stay off of religious pick-up lines then."
"Right," Peter agreed, looking back to his phone again. He scrolled a bit more. When satisfied, he looked up at the wall again, raised his eyebrows with an award winning smile before he recited another.
"Life without you would be like a broken pencil… pointless."
"Wow..," Ned said. He pointed and nodded slowly. "I think that's a keeper. Try it again just to make sure though. Oh- and this time, make it more personal."
"Okay," Peter said, going back over the line in his head. He assumed the position and instead of a smug, gave a small smolder.
"Wait," Ned interrupted. "Does this one even make sense? I mean- a pencil still has a point even when it's broken, right? Unless, of course, it's the bottom half, but that would only work if it's a clean break. A-and-"
Suddenly, realizing how completely ridiculous he must look, Peter grimaced. "Ned, why're we doing this again?!"
Ned rolled his eyes. "C'mon Pete. It's because pickup lines always work!"
"A-are you sure? Cuz that doesn't sound right."
"Dude, I'm telling you," Ned defended. "I saw Flash walk right up to Sydney and gave her the perfect pickup line and he immediately got a date! Flash of all people! If he can, you certainly can!"
Peter rolled his eyes. Ned was seriously comparing him to Flash? There were tons of reasons as to how Flash got with Sydney. "But Flash is popular and rich and stuff... I'm just me."
Ned scoffed. "Well..." He looked up with a carefree smile. "If it makes you feel any better, if I were a girl, I'd totally date you."
"..thanks..." Peter said, suddenly feeling incredibly awkward. He looked around the room with a nervous chuckle. Ned, apparently not realizing the awkwardness in the room, hasn't looked away and continued to smile at his friend.
Finding his voice, Peter spoke up. "So, um, what was Flash's line anyway?"
"Uh-uh man," Ned answered. "You gotta find your own! Sydney probably already told the whole school, so you'd just be a copycat. Your line needs to be original."
Peter raised his eyebrows. "We're literally looking this stuff up from the internet, Ned! That's not original!"
"Just trust me. Now read another."
"Okay..." Peter begrudgingly agreed. He was regretting this whole thing more and more each second. He took a deep breath and recited his next one.
"[Y/N], my love for you is like dividing by zero– it can't be defined."
He looked to Ned, who was silently contemplating the words.
"...I kinda like it," Ned finally said.
"I don't know," the scrawny teenager sighed, throwing his phone onto his bed. "It needs to be really good! Not mediocre. Tomorrow is my only chance to tell [Y/N] how I feel before spring break starts. I can't back out!"
"Pete, relax. We'll just add it to the list. Now do another-"
"Peter!!! [Y/N]'s here!!!"
The two teenagers froze. Their eyes widened at his aunt May's voice. They looked to the door, then to each other.
"What is she doing here?!?!," Peter whisper-shouted, two seconds from panicking.
"It's your apartment, you tell me!," Ned whispered back, arms flailing wildly.
"She can't be here!," he yelled to himself, pointing towards the door you could be walking through any second now. "She can NOT be here!"
The two quietly went back and forth as you came closer to his room. Normally, you were always more than welcome. But today, unbeknownst to you, Peter's home was probably the one place you definitely shouldn't be.
You poked your head around the doorframe. "Heyyyy fellas!"
They froze, looking to you with their mouths zipped shut. "Why so tense?," you asked, a small smile playing on your lips.
"No reason!," Peter yelled.
"Hey [Y/N]." Ned gave a wide smile.
You return it with a wider smile that certainly betrayed the rest of your face, that held only confusion. "Uh, what's going on, guys??"
They looked to each other, then to you, then to each other again. Ned broke away first this time. "Peter's trying to find a pick-up line to tell his crush was tomorrow!," he spat out quickly, earning an excited gasp from you.
Peter's jaw stopped to the floor. If he were a computer, he would've definitely been crashing right now. "What the hell, Ned?!," he practically screamed, his voice cracking a bit before he covered his face with his hands.
"So, whose the girl?," you asked, pushing through them and climbing onto the top bunk to sit.
"Uh-"
"DON'T. SAY. ANYTHING!," Peter hissed out through gritted teeth.
It didn't take you too long to realize the tension in the room. "Uh, should I come back another time or something?"
"That would be ideal," Peter mumbled under his breath.
Your eyebrows scrunched together in annoyance. Why were they being so weird and vague?
"Okay, did I do something? Is that why you're acting so weird, Pete? I mean, I was gonna try to help you out so you won't make a complete fool of yourself in front of this girl, but-"
Ned dropped the death star as he excitedly clapped his hands together. "That'd be perfect, actually!!"
Both you and Peter groaned as you looked at the peices on the floor. "Ned!"
"At this point that thing needs to stay at my house cuz when it's at either of yours it always breaks!," you laughed.
"Umm..." Peter looked away and took a deep breath. "[Y/N]?"
At this point, he had no idea nor any control over what was going on and the only words processing in his mind were what the fuck.
His crush was not supposed to be here while he was practicing what to say to his crush tomorrow.
"Yeah, Pete?"
But you were here now, and you didn't seem to be leaving anytime soon.
So what's the worse that could happen?
"C-could you maybe, um, help me with this?"
"With your girl problems? Sure. I mean, if we leave it your hands, the poor girl won't even know what hits her."
Ned bit his lip, attempting (and failing) to hide a fit of laughter. "She sure won't!"
"Dude!," Peter hissed, nudging his shoulder.
"So what've you got so far?," you said, watching Peter expectantly.
"Uhh.." He blew out a heavy breath. Welp, he thought. Guess we're doing this now. He picked up his phone and awkwardly read off the line.
"My love for you is like dividing by zero– it can't be defined.."
He looked back up at you, frozen as statue. That was so embarrassing. You smiled and giggled a little. "That was so cheesy!"
"Oh..," Peter mumbled. He'd actually thought that one was pretty good.
"That's only because he's not doing it like he did a second ago," Ned, ever the oblivious one, noted. "C'mon! Do it the way you did it before [Y/N] came in here."
If looks could kill, Ned would surely have been maimed and then ran over a bus by now.
Peter sighed. He looked up to the wall right above where [Y/N] was sitting and gave his best smolder.
But before he could get a word out, laughter erupted the room. "PETE WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!," [Y/N] shrieked, practically falling off the the top bunk of the bed with laughter. "Girls' want a genuine smile, not some James Bond wannabe look!"
"Y-you don't think it looks cool?," he asked, cheeks red as beets by now.
"Frickin' goofy is what that looks like!," she responded. "Gimme your phone."
Peter's face fell. Wow, he thought. I'm way off. No way I'm gonna get her now, except...He looked to Ned, who was practically just spectating the whole thing at this point. Their eyes joined, and they could both tell they'd come to the same conclusion.
What better way to find out exactly what to say than by finding out by who you're going to say it to?
[Y/N] scrolled down a few until she found one that she liked. "Ooh, this one's pretty good." She looked up from the phone. "Now, watch me and I'll show you how it's done." She hopped down from the bed and said the line straight to Peter's face, biting her lip and smirking.
"Hey you, apart from being sexy, what do you do for a living?"
Immediately afterwards, she broke out of it. "See?," she asked. "That's how it's done." [Y/N] tossed the phone back into Peter's hands before sitting back down. "Now do that."
Peter sucked in a quick breath, lightly tugging the bottom of his gray shirt. "U-uh, um, yeah okay.."
That was hot, was all he could really think at the moment. She's so frickin hot.
Scatterbrained, he stood and looked back at you. "U-uh.. -oh, here's one..." He shook his head slightly, as if attempting to shake the jitters out. "A-are you a cam-mera? C-cuz.. you sure do make me sm-mile," he stammered, ending with beyond awkward fingers guns.
[Y/N] chuckled, biting back a small smile. "Ya know, you're just too cute sometimes..."
At that, Ned's jaw fell to the floor. Peter's face turned a shade of red you didn't believe was even possible.
"Uh, u-um, ah, heh, thanks..."
"Hey yo, my mom's texting me," Ned suddenly announced. "I gotta get home. See you two tomorrow." He smiled at [Y/N] and then looked Peter square in the face with a shit-eating grin. "And good luck Pete!," he said, earning a middle finger from his best friend.
After the door closed, [Y/N] frowned. "What's up with you two? Are you guys fighting?"
"Nah, Ned's just being..." Peter trailed off, shaking his head slightly. If he were to elaborate, he could risk telling you. Better to play it safe. "So was that one good?"
"I mean, it'd be nice if you could g-g-g-get it out!," you mocked with a smile.
"No stuttering then," he concluded to himself. "Stuttering's a turn off."
"Well, not exactly," you corrected. "I actually think it's kinda cute when you do it." Noticing his intense blushing, you grabbed his hands to give comfort. "Just relax. No stuttering. And keep eye contact. Got it, Pete?"
His cheeks reddened as he looked away, desperately trying to redirect his focus from your turned up lips. "Oh, u-uh um, thanks! That's great, ya know! L-lets, ah, just get back to the th-thing- uh, the line..."
And so you did. You helped him til eleven o'clock at night. You went over about fifty. Until there was no way he couldn't have a perfect one to show the girl.
Until the next morning.
Spoiler alert: he didn't find a line.
When you left the indecisive teenager, he'd looked like he was on the right path. He had an entire list of good choices you'd picked out with him, along with practiced ways to do each one.
But, when he woke up and looked back at the list, each one just felt wrong.
Cheesy.
Overused.
Corny.
Lame.
You wouldn't like it. You'd already heard it. It wouldn't feel special to you if he'd told you something you'd already picked out for yourself, even if you didn't know you had.
You'd reject him. And more? Because you were a nice person, you'd probably still want to be friends.
Which was definitely way, way worse.
"Peter!," May yelled. "Engine's being turned on in five! Be there or you'll have to swing to school!"
-
Perer told you he'd tell his crush the line by the lockers during homeroom.
You couldn't wait. 'This is gonna be so awesome,' you thought, scanning the halls for his curly brown hair and wrinkled jacket.
'Of course, this girl better be worth his time or I'm gonna frickin' tackle her....'
The night before, Peter had told you nearly everything about this mystery girl.
He gushed about how she was perfect. Beautiful. Everything he ever wanted.
And you felt happy for him.
But deep inside, you knew that whoever the girl he'd chosen was, you wouldn't approve. Because deep down, you wished that it would be you.
But you and Peter were friends. Since the sixth grade. If anything was ever gonna happen, it surely already would've.
And It wasn't gonna happen...
And when this girl said yes (it's Peter Parker, why wouldn't you?), you'd have to watch them hug, kiss, give inside jokes, and everything else couples did.
And because he was your best friend, you'd have to just sit there and be happy for him.
"Miss. [Y/L/N]. Come on, get to class!," your homeroom teacher yelled, standing by the door, holding it open for you to walk into the classroom.
"Must be late again...," you mumbled, looking around the halls for Peter one last time before making your way to the door.
"[Y/N]!"
You whipped your head to where the voice was coming from. It was Ned, running down the hallway.
"Yeah?"
"He's gonna do it!," he yelled. "He's about to ask!"
You turned towards your teacher. "Um, can I go to the restroom please?"
"Yeah sure," the teacher replied.
Once the door closed, you ran to meet Ned in the middle of the hall. "Ask? Wait, on a date or to actually be his girlfriend?"
"TO BE HIS GIIIIRRRRRRLLLLLLLFRIEND!!," he yelled, shaking you by your shoulders back and forth frantically.
'Wow,' you thought, eyes wide. 'Peter's actually getting some balls now.'
This was it. And you were gonna hold your tongue and watch it happen.
Ned looked over your shoulder as he practically gasped for air. "He's coming! He's coming!"
You pulled his arm a bit, attempting to pull him to towards the wall. "Don't we need to hide? They don't need an audience!"
Suddenly, using his strength against you, Ned turned you around quickly for you to come face to face with Peter.
"Where's the girl?," you said, looking around curiously. After you were met with silence, your curious smile went away. "Pete, where is she? Where's she at?"
"I-it's...um, [Y/N] it's always been-heh. It's you," he answered, looking into your eyes shyly.
Ned could've bursts from joy right then and there. You could feel his grip on your arms tighten out of excitement.
But you didn't care, because you were sky high yourself. "So all that, yesterday? That was all about-"
"Yeah. You."
You sighed, practically frozen. "Major fucking plot twist, dude.."
He tilted his head. "'Saw' level?"
"More like 'Shutter Island' level," you answered.
"Ooh, that was a big one," Ned added brightly.
You shifted slightly. "So, um, what was the line you chose?"
"Oh!," Peter laughed. "How could I forget? Uh-" He grabbed your hands gently. "Okay." Hey blew out a long breath. "Relaxing. No stuttering. And keeping eye contact," he reminded himself aloud before he slowly and tenderly recited the line he'd chosen.
"[Y/N], ahem, um, If I had a penny for every time I thought about you, I'd have exactly one cent.."
You frowned. "Hold on, I don't get it. That means-"
"-Because you never leave my mind, sweetheart."
Raising your eyebrows, your heart warmed and you covered your hand over your mouth. That was one you hadn't chosen. You'd never even heard it before. He'd found it himself.
Noticing your reaction, Peter tensed. "W-was that too much? I'm sorry if that was too much! The last thing I would want for it to be is too-"
"That was perfect, Peter."
He paused. "It wasn't too cheesy?"
"Just a little cheesy," you said, pinching your fingers together and giving a quick wink.
"On a scale of one to ten?," Ned asked.
"Ned!," Peter scolded, quickly sliding his finger over his neck as a warning. He then looked back to you with a timid smirk.
"So, ah, does this mean you'll be my girlfriend?"
"Hmm, I guess it does, huh?," you giggled and turned to walk away just as the bell rang for first period.
-
"Sooooo, how'd it go?," May asked, poking her head around the doorframe of Peter's room.
When Peter turned towards her from his bed, May knew the answer before he even uttered a word.
He was staring up at ceiling twiddling his fingers and grinning like a madman.
"She said yes, May..I-i didn't think she'd actually say yes!"
May smiled. "Well, that's good!"
"Our first date's tomorrow and- Oh God! I might need to find another line to tell her! I'll use the math one this time since she was so excited about acing that test earlier today. Oh my gosh what if- what if we kiss?! That'd be SO awesome! Right, May? Ooh man, what am I gonna wear?? Ned said to wear a tux. But it's just a movie date, not prom! Jeans and a t-shirt should work, right? What if I get there and I'm underdressed?! Why is this stuff so hard?!"
Aunt May watched as the young boy frantically vented to himself and shook her head. "God bless him..."
She looked down at his desk in the corner of his room. On it was a small journal. It was opened to a page labelled 'Pickup Lines To Tell [Y/N]'
Underneath it were lines separated into sections based on 'coolness,' 'nerdiness,' and 'sexiness.'
May furrowed her eyebrows. "Hon, you know pick-up lines never work, right?
"Well May," Peter sighed, leaning back into his bed. "There's a special girl out there that would beg to differ.."

The Anti-TBR Tag
Tagged by @captainofthegreenpeas, thanks!
1. A popular book EVERYONE loves that you have no interest in reading?
A popular book everyone loves? Erm... I don’t know what everyone loves? Probably not that popular around here, but... Ian Fleming’s James Bond series? I have not a single jot of interest. But I would still read it. I’ll give anything a chance.
2. A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading?
Seriously I will try anything once. But I dunno, maybe Gulliver’s Travels? If I’m judging books by their cover then I would not choose to read that one.
3. An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you?
Phillipa Gregory. I tried to read The Other Boleyn Girl twice, several years apart, and both times I wondered why I did it to myself. It’s just such an unpleasant book. I haven’t been able to bring myself to read any of her other novels, but then I don’t like her as a person either so... nvm. There are plenty enough hist novel authors out there to get reading material from. Also (and this will get me shot) Philip Pullman. I have tried very, very hard to like the His Dark Materials trilogy but I just... don’t get why they’re so popular. My brain found them all mediocre and I didn’t like any of the characters. I love the concept of the first book but having now read it twice in an effort to understand the hype, it still leaves me feeling totally dissatisfied, and I found the sequels tedious and a bit ridiculous. So many people love them so I’ve concluded that his writing is simply not coded for my brain. I just have no interest in reading anything else by him.
4. A genre you have no interest in OR a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t?
I have never really tried or been interested in modern “horror fantasy” like Stephen King type stuff. I think I should try it but if even the likes of “Elidor” gives me chills at points, and that’s a children’s book, I’d probably never sleep again. I also have no interest in anything to do with sports or modern day spies/modern warfare - unless it’s heavily character driven and the characters interest me enough. In fact I avoid a lot of books simply because they’re set in the here and now and I’m like.... no thank you, I want my escapism to be far away from my living memory, thx.
5. A book you have bought but will never read?
I bought The Silmarillion once and like most people never read it. I don’t even have it any more but maybe I might buy it again one day now I have fallen in love with the Lord of the Rings books (which I used to really not get on with). I’m looking at my bookshelf now and wondering what I won’t ever read. The Pillars of the Earth has been sat there a while but I think I will get around to it... And The Name of the Rose frustrated me last time I attempted it, it’s prose causes my brain to fog. But I am determined to beat it one day.
Who wants a tag? @thisbluespirit? @the-mcguffin? Anyone please help yourself!

tagged by @madisonrooney ! (god this is probably the first tag game in a while i've actually completed, i feel like there are a bunch i either have unfinished in my drafts or i just never got to and forgot about, i should fix that 😅)
1. Favorite Song at the Moment
lost by maroon 5
i've been a big ol' maroon 5 fan for as long as i could remember (since i was like 5, coincidentally) and the voice obviously just amplified that so i listened to their latest album and it's so good and this is my absolute favorite song from it. i hope it becomes their next single, it's really really good.
2. A Song You Associate With Your Favorite Ship
shelter by finneas
i have a lot of favorite ships so this question is not specific enough for me but i am still on aotd brainrot (hahahaha get it? brainrot? bc zombies?) so i am applying this to vandieter which i literally made a whole playlist for, the first song on which is shelter by finneas. it's not the first song i added to the playlist, interestingly enough, but it's the one i feel best applies to them ("give me shelter from the storm" makes me think of them both hiding out in the vault when the bomb goes off) so that's why i'm using it as my answer. perhaps i'll share the full playlist when i feel comfortable enough (and get a good cover photo).
3. A Song That Could Be About You
in my blood by shawn mendes
do i need to explain this one? i have GAD (general anxiety disorder) so this song is a mood and a half for, like, basically my daily struggle. i mean obviously it applies mostly to those bad episodes of anxiety but it's rare for me to go a whole day without feeling at least some sort of mild form of anxiety. so yeah, the chorus lyrics hit deep.
4. A Song You Think is Overrated
drivers license by olivia rodrigo
stealing this one from amanda bc i honestly agree, i do Not get the hype around this song. and i'm a fan of hsmtmts so i was happy to see olivia finally getting some recognition but i feel like it was almost Too Much for what's kind of a mediocre song. not to mention the rumored drama with josh bassett and sabrina carpenter and i'm also a big josh fan so that made me not care for the song either. like i guess i kinda felt protective of him, in a way. it was also mostly swifties who were hyping olivia and i hate taylor swift so there's that too. (i'll admit olivia's third single, "good for u", isn't bad, i do actually like it, but my overall interest in her career is at an all time low and there's speculation she may leave hsmtmts after this season which i would not mind, tbh.)
5. A Song That Reminds You Of A Good Memory
till i forget about you by big time rush
so this is a random throwback story. honestly the details are kinda fuzzy now, but basically i remember there was like a day in 7th grade where btr had a new song premiering on the radio and obviously i couldn't listen to it until i got home from school (i didn't have a smartphone till college), so as soon as i got home, i raced to my computer (i don't even think it was mine, i think it was my sister's laptop, technically, but i borrowed it bc i could and i dunno, maybe she wasn't home?) to go to youtube to look up a recording of the song (remember those days, when songs weren't just instantly available on streaming?) and i found one that was a lyric video so i put it on and yeah. obviously had a great time listening to the song bc i instantly fell in love and i think i was dancing in my seat to it before it was even over and yeah. it was just a good time in my life bc i had a favorite band and i was finally well-adjusted to middle school life but i was still a kid so i still had kid interests and little responsibility and i miss it.
6. The Last Song You Listened To
this is heaven by nick jonas
i was, uh,,,,,, listening to my vandieter playlist 🤐
7. A Song That Makes You Laugh
locked out of heaven by bruno mars
so this also has a tiny story/context. i forget how it started but basically whenever i hear this song on the radio when i'm in the car with my mom, she imitates those little background grunt sounds and it always makes me laugh. like it's basically turned into a routine where i'll sing bruno's part and then point to her as her cue to do the grunts. it's fun and it always makes me smile and laugh and think of her if i ever hear the song on my own.
8. A Song You Want Your Mutuals To Listen To
seize the power by yonaka
i know this looks like a bizarre, random, and totally out of left field answer and it is bc i discovered the song via an alternative edm playlist but i also discovered it around the time i watched aotd and i kinda wanted to add it to my movie playlist but it didn't really fit so yeah. basically the badass girl power energy of the song kinda gave me lily vibes but the playlist for aotd is more general so it didn't really fit but i still firmly view this as a lily song but i recommend it whether you've watched aotd or not bc it slaps.

When did I create this blog: Jan 2020, or maybe Dec 2019, I do not recall lol.
What I post: Uhhhh, shit nothing? XD Guess fanfics and fanart, but pretty rarely. I be drifting through life, yo.
Last thing I googled: "drop that phone dream about me", I was trying to remember the band that did that song. It's Broken Social Scene "Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl".
Other blogs: NONE. None else here, and I'm still not even using my IG, hahaaaa~ha!
Do I get asks: 'Tis rare! I finally got 2 the other day! <33333
Why I chose my URL: It's my fanfiction pseudonym.
Following: I couldn't find that info, lol. It's gotta be less than my follower count, though. Maybe 35?
Followers: 266
Average hours of sleep: It's sporadic, so I dunno.
Instruments: I found my Ocarina of Time Ocarina, does that count? Sadly my fingers are too small to cover the holes. Q_Q I want the fairy ocarina really, really badly now. I'm just sad that the octave wouldn't be the same. SONG OF STORMS BITCHES! It won't be the same!

Dream Job(s): Oh yeah, I thought this tag game was familiar... This is my third time with this one, haha! XD I don't have a dream job anymore, sorry. :\ I am a creator/artist by nature, but lately I'm just not quite feeling applying myself anymore. I might just slip into 'mediocrity', deluding myself into a false sense of comfort by eating and sleeping and gaming my life away.
Dream Trip: I would like to go UNESCO World Heritage Sites. I would also like to backpack through Asia and throw down money in Tokyo. Ah, wait, no. I should focus on a world trip solely around food, like the late great Anthony Bourdain.

Gotta be thick noods all the way), Prime Rib (horseradish and mashed po~tatas), Banh Mi, Tom Kha Gai soup... Godammit, just take me to a buffet already!!! XD
Last Book I Read: I finally finished "Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki". Apparently I chose the wrong Murakami novel to read first, whups. XD I really want to try to get through "Brave Story" by Miyuki Miyabe, but IT. IS. A. TOME!
Top 3 Fictional Universe I'd Like to Live In: How To Train Your Dragon, The Legend of Zelda... Honestly don’t know ‘bout that third one... A:TLA? Kiki’s Delivery Service? Pokemon? One Piece?? Neverland??? ^_^;;;;;

FFVII:REMAKE - A Review
So I beat the game two weeks ago and started writing down my thoughts while they were fresh in my mind, but I didn’t post anything then because my one IRL friend who is also playing it hadn’t finished it yet and I didn’t want to risk posting anything spoiler-y. But the extra time has allowed me to play through the game again on Hard difficulty, which has allowed me to reconsider and elaborate on some of my thoughts. And frankly at this point I just need to dump my Very Big Opinions somewhere, so... here ya go.
I discuss visuals, gameplay, character and story below. I’ve tried to keep spoilers minimal up front, though obviously if you want to go into the game totally cold, don’t read this. All major spoilers are clearly tagged. All of it is below a cut to spare your dash.
Also, there are pretty pictures, because why not?
Tumblr media
First, my background with this franchise: I played through the original FFVII multiple times; I’ve watched and rewatched Advent Children and Last Order, played Crisis Core, gave up on Dirge of Cerberus despite my deep love for Vincent Valentine (sorry, VV, but your game was just a mess), and lamented that Before Crisis wasn’t available in my country. I even played (and own!) Ehrgeiz, the obscure fighting game that featured the main cast. (Still bitter that they didn’t keep Miki Shinichirou as the voice of Sephiroth. He’s one of my faves.)
Tumblr media
^ Ehrgeiz, a mediocre fighting game that forever endeared itself to me by including Turks!Vincent Valentine as a playable character. 💖
In short, I’ve been waiting for this game for DECADES.
So. Here we go. My thoughts on Final Fantasy VII: REMAKE.
The good:
The character models are very pretty. With individual pores, threads and scuffs visible, they’re so detailed that it’s almost impossible to reconcile them with the mouthless sprites from the original game – even more so than Advent Children (and dear goodness, that was over a decade ago now, wasn’t it?). Still, they’ve kept the costume details and absurd proportions largely intact (Barret’s fists are literally larger than Tifa’s entire head, yet somehow it works visually), so it’s not too much of a departure from the familiar.
Tumblr media
They’ve kept the aesthetic. I was afraid the game would try to update the iconic world of Midgar, but by and large, it’s full of visually-arresting designs that preserve the gritty-industrial look and feel of the original.
Japanese version is included. BLESS YOU, Square Enix, for including the Japanese voices and character animations. Not only is it impossible for me to hear Cloud in anything other than Sakurai Takahiro’s voice, but the Japanese script is a bit nicer to the characters. I’m not really keen on the English dub… but more on that below.
They fixed the spelling of Aerith’s name. This may seem like a minor point, but considering it’s been 20 years and I’m still bitter that Devil May Cry still hasn’t corrected “Nelo Angelo,” it’s a small victory.
Improved combat. Admittedly, I wasn’t sold on the new combat system at first, but after playing through the game twice, I’ve come to really like it. It has a few rough edges and can get chaotic in some battles, but it does a decent job of blending the feel of an action game with turn-based strategy. The fact that you can switch to a more traditional turn-based system if you prefer is also nice. (I haven’t tried Classic mode yet, though.)
Tumblr media
Weapon customization. The Skill Points system allows you to upgrade your loadout instead of acquiring new gear. The tutorial was somewhat lacking (I didn’t quite figure out the multiple-core-unlock thing right away), but I appreciated the ability to add materia slots or stat buffs rather than just cycling through a dozen swords that Cloud apparently keeps in his back pocket.
Background dialogue management. On the whole, the conversations as you run through town enhance the story without slogging down the gameplay; you don’t have to stop and talk to every single resident, because snatches of their conversation reach you (and your on-screen chatlog) as you pass. You can stop and listen for more detail if you want, or you can just keep moving. The extra worldbuilding is really nice.
The music. The orchestrated versions of the original themes are excellent (and some of those music cues gave me goosebumps… Did I spend way too many hours immersed in the original game? Probably). I can take or leave some of the collectible jukebox tunes, but the background music in general is good. (But did I earn that Disc Jockey trophy? Yes, yes I did.)
Supporting character development. Jessie, Biggs and Wedge actually have characters! And personalities! Clichéd ones, admittedly, but it’s an improvement over the original game killing them all off within the first few minutes. The game also does justice to the Turks, and actually surprised me with how much depth of character it gave Reno and Rude in particular (perhaps setting them up for a mini redemption arc so players forgive them for dropping a plate on tens of thousands of slum residents?). Their moments of concern for each other and (brief) crises of conscience made them more than the stock villains they were in the original game, more in line with their temporarily good-aligned characters in Advent Children. Tseng, likewise, was on point. However, I do have to qualify all this with one irate question: Where the heck is Elena?! Seems like the female characters are always getting left out… /sigh/
Tumblr media
Improved plot devices. REMAKE cleans up some of the more questionable and outdated content from the original. As you likely already know from the demo, the new game somewhat exonerates the protagonists by having Shinra blow up their own mako reactor to turn public opinion against AVALANCHE (possibly because someone finally realized that it’s hard to sympathize with characters who are willing to melt down an entire reactor and kill a bunch of innocent civilians). AVALANCHE are still eco-terrorists, but they’re… terrorists with a conscience? I dunno, at least they feel bad when people die now… Likewise, the weird and uncomfortable Honey Bee Inn segment of the original game has been reborn as an amazing dance extravaganza. Less voyeurism/prostitution, more Vegas floor show (complete with minigame choreography) and makeover. The whole Don Corneo scenario is still hella creepy, but frankly, there’s nothing that can fix that.
Tumblr media
Series references. Fans of the original will appreciate all the inside jokes and direct references to the original game and other franchise entries: One-off comments about Chocobo racing; a broken console in Wall Market that shoots at you; a framed picture of the original 32-bit Seventh Heaven; ads for Banora apple juice; side mentions of characters and plot devices from spinoff games; PHS communication… The game definitely pays tribute to its history. They even recreate the original loading screen and several of Cloud’s iconic poses/animations throughout the game:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The neutral:
Recycled gags. Look, I know Advent Children was the ultimate evolution of FFVII for a while, and admittedly, it did some things very well. The running gag with Rude’s sunglasses and the victory fanfare being used as a ringtone are some of the best moments in the film, in part because they were so unexpected. But as much as I enjoyed the repeated nods to AC in this game, they felt a little desperate, like there were no new jokes to insert so they had to double down on the ones they’d used the last time this franchise had a renaissance. (See Rude’s broken sunglasses, below.) And fitting into the series as a whole, it feels a little weird. Why is Rude’s ringtone the same as the clones’ from Advent Children? Does Barret really need to sing the victory fanfare over and over when he defeats an enemy? Is there supposed to be some history behind that song that was left out of the worldbuilding? It just feels too meta.
Tumblr media
Arbitrary localization of names. I don’t really grasp why it was necessary to rename so many items and characters for the English market. Some changes make sense for localization (e.g. Whack-a-Box certainly works better for an American audience than Crash Box), but others seem arbitrary, like changing Aniyan Kunyan to Andrea Rhodea or Mugi to Oates (a play on the meaning of his name in Japanese, but... does it matter?). And then… well, I don’t want to spoil A Major Plot Element, but there’s another thing that changes names from one English word (in the Japanese track) to a different English word. Why? No idea. It doesn’t affect gameplay, and it’s not really a problem, but listening to the Japanese track, I found it jarring to have the subtitles contradict what I was hearing.
Underutilized characters. While the whole gamut of original FFVII characters make appearances, several of them aren’t used to full effect, or aren’t used at all to advance the story. Rufus Shinra’s bossfight is a decent challenge, but while his character was vital to both the original FFVII and Advent Children, his presence in this game is little more than a cameo. His fight could be cut or swapped out with any other boss, and it would have zero effect on the plot. Similarly, while Hojo is a key player in the full story (which this game doesn’t cover, since it’s only a fraction of the original timeline), he’s largely wasted here, except as a means of extending play time by making you wander through corridors and fight a bunch of monsters for “research.” (I have no idea what his motivation is; you’d think he’d be more interested in recapturing Aerith or Cloud, but instead he just... opens an elevator and lets them leave? after they beat up some midbosses.) Reeve Tuesti actually has a solid presence in this game, but since he’s ONLY ever active as himself, there’s no explanation for the random Cait Sith cameo in one scene (players new to the franchise probably have no idea why a random cartoon cat showed up for a few seconds and was never mentioned again). Obviously the plot arcs have to change when the game is covering only a few days’ time in a much longer story, and the major players need to be introduced at some point if they’re going to feature in later games in the series, but from a narrative standpoint, there are an awful lot of superfluous characters doing things for no reason in this installment.
The bad:
THE PADDING. Dear goodness, there is so much padding to make this a standalone game instead of just the first chapter of a longer adventure. I got really, really sick of running literally from one end of the map to the other on side quests – and that’s me, an avowed trophy hunter who spends hours scouring dark corners for collectible items in other games, saying that. So much of this game felt like time fill that didn’t really advance the story. It’s also full of unnecessary new characters with improbable Squeenix hair, like Roche the super-annoying motorcycle SOLDIER (below), or Leslie, Don Corneo’s doorman who somehow merits his own backstory and side quest. (Though in fairness, every FFVII sequel has added superfluous characters, with Crisis Core possibly being the worst offender.) But it just felt really drawn-out and bloated for a game of this generation. If this game had been as compact and tightly-written as the other games I typically play, it probably only would have taken me 15 hours to beat instead of 50. (I don’t actually know how many hours I spent on it the first time through, as I didn’t check the play clock before restarting on Hard difficulty. I do know it took me over 110 hours total to complete the game on both modes, though much of the second run was spent dying repeatedly on a handful of nasty fights. Hard mode removes items and MP replenishment, and if you run out of MP at any point during a chapter, you’re going to die. A lot.)
Tumblr media
The pacing. Related to the above... the Midgar portion of the original game was just the setup for a larger story. It wasn’t meant to have its own complete dramatic arc so much as to introduce you to the world and the major players. Consequently, there are some really odd beats in this story, as well as a total lack of urgency in your mission. There are no natural places to slot in the side quests and minigames, so they’re shoehorned awkwardly between plot sequences. “Quick, our friend is in mortal peril and needs our help!” "Okay, cool, we’ll go rescue her after we spend ten hours running around town doing random errands for townspeople and playing games with the local kids.” Uh... what?
The graphics just aren’t as good as they should be. While the character models are gorgeous, there are a lot of low-res background textures and weird polygons that don’t quite match up with other components. Most egregious are the Shinra logos, which frequently get close-ups as part of the fixed camera work and, frankly, look like lossy JPEGs. (See image below, screencapped from a PS4 Pro. Those jagged edges on the logo are present throughout the entire game.) There are weird clipping errors and artifacted images and reflective surfaces that don’t reflect, making the game look more like something from the PS3 era than a 4K late-gen PS4 game. (And it’s not that we don’t have the technology: Uncharted 4 was released back in 2016, and the rendering of its vast world was twice as pretty. Devil May Cry 5, released in early 2019, has far more realistic textures and object interaction. Granted, those are different types of games with fewer NPCs to render, but I feel like there’s no excuse for a game this big to look this mediocre.)
Tumblr media
The HUD could be better. The lower-corners concept is okay, though it took me a while to train my eyes to travel between both sides of the screen and track the fight action. But for a long time, I didn’t even notice the commands in the upper left corner of the screen, and after playing through the game twice I still have no idea what they say because I couldn’t focus on the tiny text long enough to read them while trying not to die in combat. (I just looked it up; apparently they’re combat control shortcuts? Huh, that would have been useful to know.) It wasn’t until my second time through that I realized there even WERE separate controls on screen during the motorcycle minigames; I had resorted to panicked button mashing to figure it out the first time through because there was no tutorial (you’re just dropped into the action) and, having ignored the small text for the previous hundred combats, I had no reason to look for on-screen instructions there. Not that it would have helped, since on many backgrounds the text in the upper left is really difficult to read (see below). It’s worth noting that I have better than 20/20 vision and played this game on a large TV screen and still had trouble reading some things; on a smaller TV, or for someone with less acute vision (like my sister, who is blind in one eye), I think even the basic menu controls would be difficult to see. While you can resize the font for subtitles, my cursory glance through the menu did not uncover an option to increase the size of the HUD.
Tumblr media
Inter-fight menu mechanics. Specifically, the inability to save (or save loadout settings) between fights in a multi-part sequence. There are several back-to-back fights in which it is necessary to switch characters or change gear between bosses. The game treats them as one continuous fight, though it does allows you to access the equipment menu by holding square during key cutscenes. Which is good, if you only have one of a particular materia or accessory that you need to switch between characters, and in most cases when you die the game lets you restart just before your current fight instead of restarting the whole sequence -- also good, since some multi-stage bosses can easily take 20-30 minutes to beat, and if several of those are strung together in sequence, you’re in for a long play session to get past them. But since it’s treated as one fight, you can’t save between bosses (more than once, I had to leave my PS4 running in Rest Mode overnight and just hoped we didn’t have a power glitch), and if you happen to get killed and need to restart the fight, your loadouts reset. Which means if you’re, say, fighting the end boss on Hard difficulty and get killed in the first two minutes -- which happened to me a lot -- by the time you restart the fight, sit through the unskippable cutscene, access the menu and rearrange all the materia and accessories you need, you’re spending five or six minutes gearing up for two minutes of play, and then doing that over and over again every time you die. It gets really old.
The English dub script. *deep breath* Okay, look, I know I can be a bit elitist about translations, but I really do not like the English adaptation of this game. It makes Cloud come across as less socially-awkward and far more of a deliberate jerk, Aerith is mouthy and even swears (which is not accurate to her original character), and it downplays some of the symbolism that’s more obvious in the Japanese script. One quick example: When Aerith gives Cloud a flower, she says (in Japanese), “In the language of flowers, this means ‘reunion.’” It’s subbed/dubbed in English, “Lovers used to give these when they were reunited.” That’s a subtle difference, but since the concept of “reunion” is a freakin’ huge part of the FFVII plot, and since Sephiroth was on screen literally seconds before that line is delivered, my brain automatically went, “OMG REUNION!!!” while I’m guessing people listening in English only picked up on the romantic subtext. It’s a pretty minor thing, and of course translation is always a complex balancing act between literal meaning and local market understanding, but the English version just seemed to me to have a different vibe overall. (Unfortunately, the English subtitles are the same as the dub, so unless you can understand the Japanese audio you’re kind of stuck with that dialogue.)

[WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW THIS POINT]
-
- …And my #1 complaint about Final Fantasy VII: REMAKE is…
…it’s not actually a remake.
Sure, the game starts out the same way and covers a lot of the same events, but fundamentally, it’s a sequel, not a retelling. It’s evident from Cloud’s future-oriented visions throughout the game that something else is going on, and the ending MAKES NO SENSE if you don’t already know the story. Heck, even the rest of the game doesn’t really make sense if you don’t know the story -- Sephiroth’s presence is never explained; Zack isn’t even introduced, just shows up randomly at the end; Cloud’s flashbacks of Tifa and her dead father in Nibelheim are left as a complete mystery (and since she evidently remembers the burning of her town, judging by her dialogue outside Aerith’s house, why doesn’t she even react when Sephiroth shows up?).
The core elements of the plot – the Feelers (Whispers) preserving a specific fate; the three entities from the future (whose weapon types just happen to correspond to certain named characters) defending their timeline; the return of post-Advent Children Sephiroth (the only time we’ve seen him in human form with one black wing), who has inhabited the Lifestream since his death and promised that he would never truly disappear, who in the end appeals to Cloud directly for an alliance rather than attempting to control him, because he knows now that Cloud is strong enough to defy the Reunion instinct; the change in the outcome of story events in which Biggs (and, unconfirmed as to which timeline he’s actually in, but quite possibly Zack) now survives his intended death -- all point toward Sephiroth trying to manipulate destiny into an alternate outcome in which he is victorious, and using this naive version of Cloud to facilitate it. That means this game is taking place in an alternate or splinter universe, created at some point after the events of the original Final Fantasy VII, and possibly even after the events of Advent Children.
All of that is fine from an overall continuing-story perspective – it opens up a lot of interesting possibilities, like the fact that Aerith might survive now that Cloud has seen prescient flashes of her death (among other events), and there are opportunities for more story twists and changes from what players might expect. But touting this as a remake of the original game has the potential to confuse players who are new to the franchise. FFVII was groundbreaking back in 1997, and it defined JRPGs for an entire generation of Western gamers. But that was more than two decades ago, and a lot of current gamers weren’t even born then, so while they’ve probably heard of the classic game, they aren’t necessarily steeped in its lore. FFVII:R relies heavily on prior knowledge of the series to carry its twist ending, so it largely fails as a standalone game.
Also, speaking as a longtime fan of the franchise… I honestly found the ending rather lackluster. It was a twist, of sorts, but not the sort of shocking, mind-bending revelation that made the first game so iconic. Granted, it’s hard to follow an act like revealing that your protagonist’s entire identity is a lie, not to mention killing off one of your main characters a third of the way into the story! But when the surprise ending is just, Surprise! We’re going to change things up a bit this time around so you aren’t entirely sure what’s coming! Also, here’s a gratuitous Sephiroth fight because everyone expects that, even though it doesn’t serve the main story at all nor resolve any conflicts previously established within this game! it smacks of Different for the sake of Being Different, not for the sake of a really amazing storyline they’re hiding up their sleeve. It’s a bit of a let-down, and I find that I... just... don’t really care that much. Which, for someone who’s been a fan of the series for nearly a quarter of a century, means there’s a Big Freaking Problem somewhere. If you’re not keeping the attention of your die-hard fans, how do you hope to build a fanbase of players new to the franchise?
Given the pacing and story issues inherent in this game, I’m not convinced that the following game(s) in the franchise are going to be structured any better. Considering the amount of pure side-quest padding they did in Midgar, I have no idea how they’ll maintain that same tone on something the scale of the World Map portion of the original game, unless they just completely eliminate things like Fort Condor and the submarine and the spaceship side quests. I have a feeling the Gold Saucer is going to be reduced to a Jessie flashback, a Chocobo race (probably to win a key item), and a battle arena run like the coliseum in Wall Market in this game. If they include all the story elements and side characters from the original, this series is going to be a dozen games long.
Still, on the whole this game was enjoyable, and I’m glad I played it. It wasn’t as good as I’d hoped, but they haven’t completely killed off my interest, so I’ll probably continue with the series whenever the next game comes out. Though I’m not really sure if the higher-priced edition I pre-ordered was worth the extra money, so I may wait and see how the next game is shaping up before deciding which version to get...
But if they don’t give me a really pretty (playable) Vincent Valentine in the next installment, I may riot. I do have priorities.

Hey. I'm pretty new to the whole "anti" thing--I read T0G (look at me with the terminology) and did not like it. I kept getting things from the fandom with my soc stuff on ig, so I didn't think it was all bad. I even kinda shipped F.aysand a little, though I thought Alien and ratty were shit because Chaol was my favorite character. And then I looked at a few anti blogs and realized how fucked up these books are. I just wanted to tell you that lmao, dunno why. Do you have any advice (1/2)
(2/2) for talking to stans without offending them? ty :)
Hi welcome to our house!!! Okay this is going to be a multi-tiered answer. My first tip, honestly, is to not worry about offending stans or even interacting with them if it can be avoided. Most interactions between the two communities have gone demonstrably poorly. The luckier users end up mutually blocking each other, but there have been cases of doxxing, deactivation, harassment, slurs, etc. I don’t know how new you are but I’ll recap just in case: the easiest precaution is to tag and censor correctly (ie always tag anti sjm, anti acotar, anti rowan etc, and always misspell names or put slashes or periods through names).
My second tip is to simply not look at stan accounts. In my experience, most of them are mainly interested in telling us why we’re wrong about our lived experiences and making excuses for SJ/M’s mediocrity and problematic writing. Some of them pretend like they want to have a dialogue, but between their professions of “spread love, not hate” and “interact kindly” they insult antis unprovoked, vagueblog, lie about us, and show at best willful ignorance to our robust points about the problems in the series. Some of the BNFs have straight up said they’re always going to hate the anti community regardless of anything we say or do, so there’s no point in trying to appease them. I know my blog’s premise and goal, and it does not include trying to change opinions that will never be changed, spoon-feeding stans on topics I’ve been extensively talking about and they’ve been ignoring for over a year, or indulging in dash drama that distracts from informed conversations about representation.
My third tip is this: if you want to be involved in both the main fandom and the anti community, I think it’s quite possible. Many antis are on sideblog in order to separate the critical posts from the positive posts, and those of us who’ve been here awhile have strict tagging systems so our followers can streamline our content. I’ve also seen people put qualifiers in their bios (ie “SJM critical”) so others can know what to expect from their blog. The stans worth speaking to have approached us with good attitudes and thoughtful discussion topics, which ensured a healthy exchange. Many of my followers are SJ/M fans who wish she’d done better in certain aspects of the books and regularly send me thought-provoking asks. Other antis have had a similar experience on their blogs. If you’re generally a class act (and this goes for fandom as a whole tbh), stans and antis will appreciate that and want to engage with you earnestly.

Birthday contest!
*rises from the dead* Well, it’s that time of year again, the time of year where I realize that I’m actually getting kinda old...… my birthday! And to kick off that day, we’re gonna have another birthday contest!
*Yep, in-between stressing about a chapter for a fic that’s taking forever, it’s time to rise from the dead and host another contest while simultaneously stressing about the fic and everything else I have to do.... Jeez, my priorities are weird*
The deadline is the same, one day after the 14th, so everyone has time to get in their art!
As for the theme of the contest...…. You can choose from two categories this time, mainly because I have no idea what I’m doing.....
Category one: Surprise me! Just draw something awesome (and I have quite a few fandoms other than pmatga, so that should be easy if you want to do this category), in any art form you want! :)
Category 2: If you’re interested in doing the second category..... Why not try drawing something from the pmatga fanfic that you guys love surprisingly much? Anything you want, your favorite scene, character interactions...… The sky’s the limit!
(Oh, and tag me in whatever you do, so I can see your amazing work! :) )
(I dunno, I’d just love to see some art of stuff I’ve written so far other than my somewhat mediocre artwork.. Guess I’m self indulgent like that)
Tumblr media
As for the prize? Well, I’m not too sure what exactly first place will get this year, let’s just say it’ll depend on my funds...…. Or if they want, I’ll update the pmatga fanfic! (Their choice)
Second place will get something smaller, like a drawing(their choice of what I draw!
Third place will get a much smaller drawing(because I don’t want to leave anyone out), like..... a profile of a character or something(they pick!)!
Anyway, happy creating, and good luck! :)

Headcanons for beast!Muriel and beauty!Apprentice, yes? owo'''' no? Maybe? Yeeeeeeeeeeees?
I’ve never written anything like this? Like… I dunno. I’ll attempt, no promises for it being any good… :| Reader is female because Belle is female. The story and characters are structured more around Beauty and the Beast than The Arcana… I just didn’t know how else to write this. Also Lucio is Gaston because he fucking is.
Tumblr media
🐺So the story of Beauty and the Beast is almost the exact same here, except there are no magical dancing feather dusters of talking clocks… and the beast lives in a small shack in the middle or the woods, but those are technicalities.
🐺So Asra journeys off again and promises the apprentice that he would be back within a weeks time, Faust obviously tagging along.
🐺The apprentice runs the shop as normal, the towns people coming in and ridiculing her about the things she does. Lucio flirting with her shamelessly… Normal day.
🐺She was so different from everyone in town, actually caring about learning magic and being well educated. Wanting a better life than what she had as a young woman.
🐺It was late at night, only a few days after Asra had left, after she had just closed up shop that Faust came running for her. She was fretting about Asra being in trouble or something of the sorts, Faust was not making much sense. Still Faust’s panicked state sent worry and fear through her entire body as she to Faust to lead her to him.
🐺It was strangely cold despite the summer weather, very disturbing to her. Faust lead her into the home where she found Asra tied up and shaken.
🐺He pleaded with her to leave before the beast came back, but she refused to do so. She would not just let him suffer on her watch, not if she had a say in it. Well, she really didn’t… but she had yet to learn that.
🐺As she was untying Asra she failed to notice the hulking figure entering the home. His rough and angry voice alerted her to his presence and she turned to face a large bear like creature.
🐺It was huge and filled up a large portion of the shack, its mouth was set in a snarl and its fur was matted in multiple places. It was covered by an assortment of fabrics, some fine like the ones Lucio would wear, and others normal like what she would own. To put it shortly, the creature was terrifying, but she would not let that sway her from rescuing her mentor.
🐺She argued with the beast for little while before both of them decided Asra would be set free and she would take his place. Her mentor refused this, but he didn’t have a choice considering the woodland creatures started chasing him away from the forest.
🐺She hadn’t noticed the animals in her rush to free him, but there were quite a few. Most of them seemed friendly and willing to interact, but she did not trust them just yet.
🐺She did not like her new living arrangements, and tried to escape multiple times, but it was in vain. It was better than nothing, she supposed. She slept on a surprisingly comfortable bed made of furs and other soft items the beast had collected. She made friends with the animals and read and cleaned and occasionally sung to pass time while the beat was out.
🐺Speaking of, the beast himself did not talk much at all… perhaps that why he disturbed her so. He was very snappy and jumpy, but he would answer any question she asked, albeit very curtly. She managed to learn his name was “Muriel” which she found to be adorable.
🐺Her best friends here the woodland creatures. They played with her and helped her around the small shack as much as they could with her tidying.
🐺Somehow, through some astonishing supernatural power, she found herself growing closer to the beast. He opened up more and told her more about himself, and the curse he was under. If he did not find a lover who truly loved him within the year, he would be forever stuck as a beast.
🐺They’d grown so close she started to fall for the hairy man, and he her. One night, after a small walk in the forest, Muriel gave her a mirror as a gift of sorts. She had been wanting to use a simple spell that would allow her to see what was happening with Asra.
🐺Meanwhile Asra had been tabled as a lunatic by everyone in town, no one believed in the magical beast who lived in the forest. They were going to send him off to an asylum until she showed up.
🐺She had seen what was happening in the mirror and hurried over as fast as possible to stop it with Muriels permission. She cast the same spell and showed Muriel screaming in despair. The towns people found this threatening despite her attempts to prove them wrong, and rioted their way to the house.
🐺Lucio locked her and Asra away and lead the crowed to Muriel. She was so shaken and determined to stop him, but how would she do so… Faust!
🐺She told Faust to slither out under the door and free them quickly. Thank the stars for her quick thinking skills, both her and Asra were out in minutes. They had little time for celebration as they still needed to save Muriel.
🐺Asra simply offered to use his magic to get her there quickly. Thank the stars for Asra and his Magical abilities, she was there… only to see Lucio about to stab Muriel.
🐺She cried out in shock startling the two of them enough for Lucio to just barely miss Muriels heart. With the little strength Muriel had, he threw Lucio off of him into a very angry pack of wolves and then collapsed.
🐺She ran to him, tears falling down her cheeks as she tried her best to stop the bleeding with what little cloth she had. He couldn’t die yet, not if she had a say in it. She really didn’t… she had already known this, but refused to believe it.
🐺He placed a giant paw on her face and offered a reassuring smile causing her to cry more. She watched the light slowly leave his eyes and the life drain from his face as the fighting around her died down. She begged and pleaded him not to go over and over.
“Please, Muriel you can’t die on me yet… please! Please, I love you, you can’t die!”
🐺She sobbed and held his paw to her face as he took his final breath, a heartbroken scream leaving her and she sobbed even harder. She couldn’t believe she had lost him, the only other person who understood her and cared for her truly.
🐺She stayed like this far a while, sobbing in the now silent forest, before something strange happened. There was a flash of light and then the cold paw she was clinging to suddenly became warm… and fleshy.
🐺She opened her eyes to inspect and gasped. Lying on the ground was not the bear she had come to love, but a very disheveled and large man. She would’ve screamed, had it not been for the calming familiar eyes she’d come to know and love. This was Muriel, the real Muriel, she was looking at. The man she fell in Love with.
🐺He was smiling at her shyly, almost insecurely, and she couldn’t help herself. She leant down and gave him a loving and passionate kiss that she poured all her emotions into. He was alive, and she loved him so, so so much.

Oof, is this bad? Idk if this is bad I’m hella tired right now. I just hope this was pretty mediocre at least because it took so much time and I missed like two chat rooms trying to make it all okay in my tired ass eyes. Thanks for reading and stuff!
