Check Yes (to go on a date with a dead guy) ch3
“So, what’s your deal?” Jason asked, when Danny’s mouth was full of food. “You’re dead, I notice.”
Danny choked. He gave Jason a betrayed look with big blue eyes, a hand clapped over his mouth to contain any mess.
Jason smirked back, unrepentant. “I died once,” he shared. “Got better though.”
“You got be-”
“You were surprised about what it’s like to fight humans,” Jason continued. It was hard not to laugh at the confused outrage on his date’s face. “So that implies you fight someone else? You’re fighting ghosts or something? Or do ghosts have some kinda natural enemy? Vampires or some shit?” He might have been a bit flippant but sue him, it sounded a lot more magical than his daily life.
Danny opened his mouth and no words came out. He looked like he was in pain when he grudgingly admitted, “I do have a lot of beef with this one vampire guy, Vlad.”
Jason threw his head back and laughed. That was such a vampire guy name, what the hell?
“No, no, it’s not funny,” Danny protested. He waved his hands wildly, flinging a bit of bean from his burrito across the roof they were perched on. “He’s also a ghost- well, he’s a half of a ghost, but that’s a long story from when he was in college.”
“The half-ghost vampire has an undergraduate degree?” Jason interrupted. He needed to know what this fucker studied. Was it like, social science? Literature? Theater? That might explain Danny’s implied belief that a theme was an inherent rogue thing. No, wait, business administration?
Danny gave him a withering look. “He’s got a Doctorate.”
Jason flung his hands up in defeat against the world. That made more sense than an undergraduate degree somehow. There was just something about the type of person who got a Doctorate that made them, you know, creeps.
‘Or maybe they’ve just got enough specialized knowledge to act on latent creepiness,’ he mused. ‘...Shit, am I developing an anti education stance? Can I blame this on Crane and Quinn?’
Danny was continuing with his explanation of the vampire’s background. Every word made it nuttier. “He’s a scientist, actually, and the mayor of a small town. And he lives in a cheese mansion.”
This was a sharp divergence from vampire stereotypes and he needed to know everything.
“Is the mansion made of cheese?” Jason interrupted. He was leaning in, intent on every word. Why was this vampire the most interesting man in the world?
He got a weird look for that. “No, it just belonged to the Dairy King,” Danny said, like it was everyday knowledge that you could expect a layperson to have.
“Of course, the Dairy King,” Jason said wisely.
"Enough about me though!" Danny flailed a bit. "How did you get my uh, number?"
Ah. Jason took a big bite to delay while he chose his words.
There was no point in trying to hide his vigilante identity from Danny. The guy probably didn't even understand the concept.
So he might as well top whatever story Danny had.
"The bat guy who taught me all about being a child soldier got grabbed by this group of loser cultists, right?" He gestured in a way that did absolutely nothing to illustrate the situation.
Danny cocked his head. "This is off to a good start."
"They tried to sacrifice him. You gotta remember him - big ugly guy, dressed in black and gray, underwear on the outside of his pants in a way that's never been cool?"
Danny didn't seem to have words, but he lifted his hands to make two ears on top of his head.
He pointed with both hands. "That's the guy," Jason agreed. "At the time, we didn't know what kind of sacrifice it was. We were thinking more along the lines of blood sacrifice?" He shrugged as if the idea of B biting it meant nothing to him.
Danny made a pffft sound of air escaping between his lips. "I tossed him back." He flailed in place. "I- isn't- wasn't that- that was a while ago," he stuttered. "I kinda forgot about him."
"...You got offered a cape, then a few weeks later a bunch of others, and you didn't make a mental connection?" Jason checked.
Danny flushed. "Time doesn't match up between the realms and anyway, I'm really busy!" He crossed his arms and accidentally knocked over his drink. "I've got a lot going on in my life. Anyway, for a ghost?" Danny blew a raspberry. "I'm sorry to break your heart, but none of you dress wild enough to stand out in the Infinite Realms. We've got robot dudes and child pirates and giant eyeballs and stuff." He gave Jason a smug look. It was cute.
Jason acted on impulse and reached out to ruffle Danny's hair. He realized what he was doing too late. His hand froze above Danny's head.
Danny tilted his face up and made an inquisitive sound.
"There was a bug." Jason pulled his hand back. What was wrong with him? He didn't go touching other people just because they were cute. "It flew off."
"...Right," Danny said. "You're being very normal." He seemed delighted by this, the little gremlin. "So. You were a child soldier too?"
Jason nearly fell off his perch.
Danny shrieked a laugh and pointed. "Ha!" He crowed. "I win! I shocked you first!"
"There wasn't a competition!" Jason lied. His face was bright red. It was too late to save face. "What do you mean too?" He demanded. "Were you a child?"
"Somewhat recently," Danny said. He gave Jason a catlike smile. "Adults come from teenagers, teenagers come from kids, kids come from babies. Do you need to know-"
"I know where babies come from." Jason cut him off. He tried to look off put at the way Danny laughed at him but fuck it, it was funny, in a dumb way. "Of course you were a kid, that was silly of me," he admitted. "Ghosts are made from humans, right?"
"Well yes, but actually no," Danny said, philosophical. "Some of us. I was. Other ghosts are made from like, vultures, or ideas."
It kinda seemed like ghost taxonomy was more complicated than he was ready to get into at the moment. Those two things were pretty fuckin disparate.
Jason sighed heavily and picked up his food again, just to have something to do with his hands.
A thought occurred. He didn't let it show on his face but he felt sick to his stomach.
Danny was dead. Danny said he'd been a child recently, and a child soldier.
Someone needed their ass kicked.
Danny: we are having such a whimsical time!
Jason: sirens screaming

Uniltsa ch3
Hi everyone! So I have thought hard on this one. There might be a few time skips. I type as I go but hopefully you all enjoy this one!
Uniltsa series
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[first pov]
1 year.
I have arrived on pandora 1 year before the way of water plot begins. Tuk was 8 in the film. She just turned 7 a few days back. Knowing this, it doesn't help me with anything. I cant tell lo'ak or anyone for the matter that I am not from their world! They are gonna think I am crazy.
What worse...no one will believe me that neteyam will die. That boy is a good son, a good brother. Being reminded of his death every time i see him just breaks my heart. I don't know if I can prevent it.
Even worse, knowing the RDA will come back. Oh just thinking about it gets me paranoid!
Not only that, every time I try to remember my life before all of this, it gets hazy. Memories of my parents or my life was starting to fade. It scares me and I try my best to act normal but my head is wrapped in so many things I cant think straight!
Oh Eywa...if you can hear me. Hear my internal worries. Please help me. I don't know what to do.
Tumblr media
[third pov]
Lo'ak was collecting some special nectar from the Tawtsngal flower. These past few days his dear human friend wasn't....acting right. She acts hesitant, nervous and easily scared. As if everything was new to her. But it cant be right. Uniltsa was born and raised here along side with spider.
Perhaps she is sick, maybe she has what the humans call a "fever" or a "cold" something like that. Common human sickness. So Lo'ak thinks the nectar from the Tawtsngal flower, which has healing properties, can help her.
After collecting a good amount, he began to carefully dig out the flowers he used and carry them home. Perhaps mo'at or kiri would have some use for them. Maybe make a new basket. His old one is starting to give up.
Tumblr media
[first pov]
Tuk and kiri were taking me to the "usual" spot, that being a lovely lake surrounded by flowers and all kinds of plants. A really beautiful place.
"Nice to have a day to ourselves" kiri says as we all sat near the water. As if by muscle memory, I took a few long grass and began to weave. Guess the other me did this often. Perhaps I can make something for lo'ak. Like a arm band. Yeah, I like the idea.
"You two are always busy! hardly any time to play" tuk claims as she sits between me and kiri. I bring her closer to me, giving her some grass to weave whatever she likes.
"We have responsibilities tuktuk, and when you are old enough, soon you will be busy too" kiri says while playfully tugging one of her braids. Honestly, its really sweet to see them both like this. Nice and having a moment of peace to themselves.
"chores are boring! I rather play!" tuk replies. I sigh and pull tuk closer, "me too tuktuk, me too" agreeing with her. She giggles and continues weaving, looking at it, looks like a bracelet. I continued doing mine. I know lo'ak will like it, whatever I am making.
Tumblr media
[first pov]
After a nice hearty lunch, I met up with lo'ak. Said he wanted to show me something. I thought of many things......but this wasnt one of them. Looking at what lo'ak crafted from this morning, I did my best....I really really did. But it was just sooooo.....!!
I ended up laughing at the top of my lungs.
"Oh please! I may not the best weaver in the whole dang clan but at least I am trying!" lo'ak ranted on. But I couldn't stop laughing, the so called 'basket' looked like a weirdly shape gourd!
"HAHAHAHA!!! oh lo'ak, I am sure tuk can do a better job that you!" I said, my back facing the grass land as I still laugh. Truly lo'ak is a comedic genius without even trying!
Taking deep breathes to calm down, I see him coming closer to me, kneeling down. "You think its funny eh?" he smirks while saying that.
Oh shit......
"NO LO'AK DONT YOU DARE!!"
Quickly I tried to scamper away but lo'ak was faster. He tackled me and playfully pull of my arms in his. "Lo'ak!! come on!! you know I speak the truth!" I argued. Didnt seem to faze him. He pulled my arms behind my back more, I can feel him grinning. "Say you are sorry then I will let go!" he said. Had to tap out.
"ok ok! Im sorry!!! im sorry!!" quickly he let go of my arms. Face meeting dirt. Great.
"see? what that so hard?" I can hear lo'ak's smugness in his voice.
Getting back up, dusting off the dirt I gave him a unimpressed look. "Cant handle a bit of constructional critic?" I asked him. Lo'ak rolls his eyes and comes closer to me. "No, I try my best and it is the best I can give" he replies.
huh.
"Alright, if it is your best, then it is your best" I say, he grabs my hand and holding his craft, we head somewhere else.
Tumblr media
[third pov]
Was quite a long day, both lo'ak and uniltsa were spending the last hours of the day back at the lab, just enjoying each others prescence. Until something brough up in lo'aks mind. He takes out a small vial from his small pouch.
"I almost forgot. Here, I brought this for you" he says to his human friend. Uniltsa looks to see the vial in the na'vi's hand. "What is it?" she asks while gently taking the vial in her hands.
"It is nectar from Tawtsngal flower, drinking it will help you get better. It has healing properties" lo'ak replies with a hopeful smile on his face. At that, uniltsa looks up at him with confusion. "Healing? But I'm not sick or anything like that" she says, feeling a bit worried.
Lo'ak's ears flatten a bit, his smile gone, "well....these past few days you have been acting weird. Not exactly like your usual self. I know humans can get sick but I dont know how sick you were so I brought some in case.....you know".
His explanation pulled uniltsa's heart. Feeling touched of his genuine concern. "Im sorry if I worried you lo'ak, my mind lately is...just filled with things. But I am not sick, I promise you that", the human girl smiles as to reassure her friend.
While lo'ak was glad she wasnt sick, it still hasnt dimmed his worries. "Then what is wrong? What is on your mind? You know you can share with me" he insists. Anything to help her. But uniltsa smiles again, places her small hands over his. "It is something I have to figure out on my own. But I promise, I will tell you if I cant help it myself".
"pinky promise?" lo'ak asks while raising his pinky finger. Smiling wider, uniltsa wraps her pinky finger around his, "I pinky promise".
Tumblr media
aaaaaaaaaand that is it for this one! Sorry it took so long for this! Honestly, I have no idea where to go after this. I will try to figure it out. But hope you all liked this one! until next time! see ya!

hm... 4, 7, 11, 12, 17, 21, 22, 24! happy new year, bunni!
4. Total number of words you wrote this year That's hard to find tbh....I didn't end up posting a lot of fics, so i dont only have to just check my statistics on ao3, but all of my possible fics ive written this year in my wip docs as well. the total i got was 58,171 words (~35k of it being WIPs and not posted)! so definitely not as much as i wrote last year which was (i think over 100k), and also not including all of my notes ive written. i did not do a lot of writing this year, so hopefully next year i'll wrap up all of my big fics and post them all <3
7. longest completed fic you wrote this year Again, i did not write a lot this year, much less finish them lmao. if you were to ask about uncompleted fics, we would have a different story--but alas, the longest completed one was Once More, With Needles, sitting at 4,414 words!
11. fandom you enjoyed writing for the most this year hm....obey me, I suppose. its hard to say really, but enjoyment from writing specifically, i'd have to give it to obey me. what can i say, the cast is just really fun to write (even when levi is impossible to write, like what the hell man i have rewritten your part in my undead fic like 3 separate times and am continuing fixing it, like what the hell man i trusted you and then you dont behave for me). like this year specifically i realized how much i love each and every character--those like lucifer reminded me as to why i love the game and the characters, and people like mephisto and raphael randomly won a spot in my heart. theyre all just so so fun to write <333
12. favorite character to write about this year lucifer!!! even though i only have like, one fic that features him thats out and finished lmao; hes such an interesting and complex character, yet is one whose mind i can easily slip into when i need to write when its his pov. idk, sometimes i find myself struggling to write characters like levi or even asmo sometimes--mainly from my own failures to pay attention to their canon interpretations and making them not out-of-character--but lucifer is surprisingly one i can always rely on to be easy and fun to write!! he is angst galore and so emotionally constipated, hes great <3
17. fics you’ll continue next year Heart Melts for sure!! i originally wanted ch3 to be out before the new year, but ive been drafting and redrafting all of my future chapters (i am trying my best to make it a psychological horror in order to match the tag that i put on the fic, but idk if its going to live up to the hype that people have for this fic ^^;;) so i sadly didnt get time to finish it. maybe by the end of January ill have it out--heres to hoping its done by then! and maybe i might continue Dirty? I didn't even update it this year lol--its def one i dont wanna leave discontinued, as i have all of the chapters planned out, but i just have many other projects that i wanna focus on and also i really wanna rewrite it, so ive been debating doing that first or just to finish then rewrite it. in a perfect world, i'll update that one too lol
21. most memorable comment/review I have two that come to mind!!! in all honesty all comments make me sooo happy, but these ones specifically is just,,,idk man, they just hit a certain way that itches that scratch in my brain that needs validation lmao i love rereading these all the time <3 theres these comments for Messy Makeup:
Tumblr media
(make me go insane from them saying i wrote multiple fics that were their favorites <33) and of course there's this banger of a comment from @/snugglebunnies!!! idk if youre reading this but thank you thank you thank you for inspiring me so much with your fics!!! i love them so much, and this comment was just incredible! from the fic Heart Melts:
Tumblr media
(love when people leave quotes, no matter how long or short!!!! such deep analysis is what i live for!!!!) and of course, sending out so much love to everyone who leaves a comment on any of my fics, no matter how big or small they are <333
22. events you participated in this year i didnt participate in any events this year! i tend not to do events tbh, theyre not really my style, as i dont do well with due dates unless i have months in advance lol;; usually i might do one, maybe two, events a year, but those are usually simple gift exchanges or something. nothing caught my eye this year, and ones that did i just didnt have the time to do, sadly. but! i do plan on doing the sonic big bang next year, which will be my first ever "bigger" event ive been in! exciting, but also really nervewracking as ive never posted sonic content and idk how well i'll do staying on schedule. but its still something i really wanna do (have a great fic planned for it!) so i still wanna give it a shot and do my best on it lol
24. favorite fic you read this year from this year is really hard to say--i think all of my favorite fics were found last year lmao so its a struggle to think of one. @heleentje's BOTW fic Moonlight has been a fantastic read (even though i havent finished it yet;;; i promise will soon!!) and just hits all of the right notes for me!! The batman fic Performance Piece is also definitely up there for me, as it captures so well what i want in my own writing when it comes to writing characters, especially when it comes to inner-dialogue (i might just go back and reread that one again lmao)
as of posting, i have about twenty minutes left before the new year. so happy early 2024!! 🥳🎉💝

I am tempted to inquire by a lot of these titles (I might have to send a separate ask), but I have to push the bhf agenda first and asks for more of, "Death's Door at the count of 10 - Boxing AU" pretty please!! 🥺 👉 👈 💕💕💕
Haha, of course you would! Ty for the ask, I need to get back on this too! Feel free to ask for others too if you would like :D
Boxing AU or Death's Door at the Count of 10 is a modern AU featuring Coach Tardif and his rookie boxer, Damian - while both men lost their way and try to rebuild themselves on their own, both ended up at each other sides. Now they are both on the path to see how long can they last in the cruel world of boxing. It's way easier than fighting eldritch horrors but they still need to pay the bill.
Plan to add other DD characters too, like Margaret and Dismas, with a lot of boxing references. It was slightly inspired by a picture of Damian with a black robe - my mind raced towards "oh this is how he would look like as a boxer", and the story slowly started to form. It's definitely a fun project, hopefully can release sometime soon since first and second chapter only needs some editing. Hope to return to this one in the near future~
Ch1 snippet:
„Okay smartass. Last question: you remember what happened to you?”
The lunatics eyes focused on him. His expression changed to an unnerving smile – full teeth, ear-to-ear, the blood on the lips just adding to the maniac feeling.
„Ah, it was a fun night! It was such a lovely, lovely fight! Ended too soon sadly.” His grin shows off a clipped, no, a missing tooth. There was no blood there, not a recent injury – this wasn’t his first fight ending badly, Tardif guessed.
„Wouldn’t call getting beat up a fun night. You’re lucky they couldn’t take a hit, or you would have been in trouble.”
„Well, good to know a guardian angel showed up for me. Thank you for helping me out.”
Tardifs scoffs. Thats a first. To be fair to him, he was hit multiple times in the head not even an hour ago. He may or may not be concussed.
„So tell me – where did you take me, dear angel?”
Definitely concussed."
And for you Jozzyh, some ch2 (or ch3?) content! (sorry its still pretty rough!)
CW: a lot of swearing for no reason
There in kitchen he saw a tall muscular woman, her red hair tied up in a knot, now having a staring contest with a broken blender. Around her, there were sings of vegetable scraps thrown around – it was hard to determine if it was the cause of the blender or her.
„Good morning to you, Bobo!”
„Go fuck yerself.” The red-headed murmured, barely registering her roommate entering the kitchen. She was still focused on the broken piece before her, clearly lost both the fight and whatever food she was trying to make.
„Bad morning? Did the forces of the universe bend their will to make your life miserable?”
Oh how lucky she would be, he envied.
The woman, Boudica, turned to Damian, her vegetable scraps covered face showing killing intent. Damian always loved being the target of that look, but the forces this time spared him from her righteous anger.
„Blender broke down.”
„How unfortunate. Is this the third time? I hoped it has warmed up to our presence.” the man sighed, scratching his covered wound on his face. It stopped hurting a bit, might actually healed up faster than usually. The itchy feeling was stronger than usual.
„It cant warm up to us if that fucking whore of a woman keep selling me broken down shit.” Boudica swapped Damians hand off his wound way more gentle than her attitude and temper would make you believe she could do. „A good deal she said! I’m gonna strangle her next time i saw her.”
Damian looked over the broken blender, with its blades turning downside, with more cuts on the downside of the blender than the veggies around it. The plastic wrapper outside barely hold unto the base, only remaining still in place since Boudica was still holding it down.
„She can give you your money for it back, right?”
„If she wont, I strangle her even harder.”
She let go of the plastic, which fall down on the counter, some fluid leaving its contains.
The woman let out a low sigh, like a lioness letting out a low growl, seeing how her prey run away from her.
„Fuck it. Soup it is.” she started gathering the vegetable pieces off the counter.
„Want me to cut up the vegetables?”
„Be my fucking guest.”
He helped her clean up the blended out and exploded juices, taking the salvagable part out and into a pot, cleaning the remaining vegetables off the floor.
Boudica started cleaning up some carrots and cucumbers, giving it to Damian to cut them into sizable pieces, a familiar routine started form between them.
„Don't cut your fingers off.”
„No promises.”

KHR - Chapter 2: The Deathperation shot won't work
Deathperation is still such a weird translation for me, since I'm used to scans from way back - Dying Will bullets and all, but whatever, I'll either get used to it or I won't :p
Dramatic opening once again, poor Tsuna.
Well, the students sure had a turn-around in their behavior towards Tsuna (I find it kinda funny that some are actually afraid of him now - that sounds like an interesting idea for a fic to follow hmmm) - let's see how long this new attitude lasts.
(Also, 'we want to borrow that ability' is that a Yamamoto situation foreshadowing? Or maybe this is just common behavior in school sports teams - I wouldn’t know)
Omg, this is the start of Reborn's weird hideouts and coffee addiction XD.
Then some classic textbook manipulation to teach a lesson. It's also for comedy and kicks.
'You're feeling good because someone stroked your ego' … Reborn this kid's been bullied since he was like 5, he deserves an effing break. Also is this Reborn also trying to teach Tsuna that he can't be relied on?
Cue unintentional peer pressure by Kyoko. Oh, damn people even made banners!
Wow, I forgot that Hayato shows up this early! Either my memory is bad or anime makes it take longer. Or both XD
I understand Tsuna wanting to bow out - I mean, until today all of these people have treated him horribly, being suddenly popular feels great, but they're also quick to turn - so Tsuna doesn't owe them anything, he can even look at it as helping them out by leaving, since he sucks so bad.
Then in that same breath I also like Tuna's growth here. The way he sees that all of them are also injured and doing their best. Here, Tsuna, for maybe the first time in a decade, feels like he's a part of a team - not just an add-on.
He squares up and decides to do his best - accepts responsibility for something he agreed to.
I also know that that is the lesson here, about not taking shortcuts or not over-relying to your 'magic bullet' instead of hard work, and even if you fail you've given it your all...I gotta say tho, it's kinda jarring here XD in chapter 2.
The tone is already mismatched a bit.
And now we get into the details on the naming of the 'Deathperation shot' and how it's name is changed depending on where you're hit.
Now I can watch in real time as this story detail becomes irrelevant and fades away.
I mean it's nice flavor, but it doesn't really have consequence (none that I remember) and mostly sounds like something Reborn made up on the spot. 'I shot you in the legs so it's Jump Shot' kind of thing.
The way Reborn says it also makes it sound like the bullet has another name aside from Deathperation Bullet (Dying Will Bullet) and that's just what it's called after you're shot in the head with it. (not before, see the distinction?)
Also, earlier he said that if there's no regret you just die….so it's called Deathperation | Dying Will only if you're shot in the head and then get up.
...Why am I going into the complexities of a gag that will never be plot-relevant in this way?
Let's get back into it.
Reborn says the same things I thought about 'relying on the magic bullet' - but he gets all 'but you assuaged my fears' and it's... well since I know Reborn already it just kind of look like he's fcking with Tsuna (and giving Tsuna 'he cares about what's best for me' feels which is something I'm always iffy on, but would like to believe in) - which is why we end with a gag.
Because this is still a gag manga, I must not forget. I cannot forget.
Narration at the end makes it sound like Tsuna is using intuition to read Reborn's expression and what readers see might be what Tsuna sees, rather than what other characters would be able to pick up from Reborn's expression… hmmm...Interesting.

--------------
What is up everybody!!!!!!! Next chapter besties, let me know what you think of this so far? TW: Anxiety Spiraling Threats Implied violence Swearing I think that is everything, let me know though!!!
----------------
Chapter 2: Avoidance Was a Sport, and I Have Never Been Very Athletic
Wilbur grabbed Tommy before he could rush after the fleeing boy.
“Wil- he needs help, he obviously doesn’t understand!” Tommy snapped.
Niki shook her head, “And we want to help him, of course we do, but if we chase him it’s just gonna put him more on edge. Plus, we don’t even fully understand. We just need to be an option.”
Tommy shook his head slowly, glancing quickly between Tubbo, Wilbur, and Niki. “So he doesn’t remember any of it? What if he just doesn’t come back hmm?”
“Usually hybrids aren’t knocked out like that, yeah? But he pushed his instincts down for a long time, probably subconsciously, so it all came out at once. He’ll probably remember as time passes, it’s like a- a coping mechanism.” Tubbo answered hesitantly.
“Plus,” Wilbur continued, “Technoblade is smart, he knows better than to just run from something he doesn’t understand, he’ll cool down and then come back and ask questions.”
--------
“That’s it, Chat, I’m leaving. I can go hang out with Phil for a few years, maybe farm some more yeah? You guys like the potato war right? It’ll be better. Revolution was getting boring anyways.” Technoblade muttered as he raced towards his base.
Chats’ giggles bounced around inside his head,
   Coward
Mighty Blade fleeing from some affection
   Potato pog?
   RIP Manburg ig
C’mon runt think for a minute
Techno snarled as he dove through the entrance to his base, “I am thinking Chat! They know now, about way more than they should, so now I leave. This is normal procedure.”
If they shouldn’t know then kill them?
   Murder pog?
Dead men tell no tales lol
You killed everyone else who knew.
“I killed those people ‘cause they were ‘xtorting me Chat, not cause they knew. It’s fine, who’s gonna believe them without proof anyways?” he started shoving things into his enderchest and packing up books.
You aren’t leaving cause they know abt your age lol
   You agreed to help Pogtopia
   EEEEEEeeeee
   Philza might believe Wilbur
Technoblade stopped suddenly. “Wilbur wouldn’t tell, would he? Would he? No, no? Damnnit, yes he would, he’s just barely sane right now and it isn’t like he owes me shitall.” He collapsed onto his bed with a sigh. “Tell me Chat, why am I leaving then? If not to protect my identity?”
   The voices snorted belligerently.
   You know why little pig
Don’t get stupid on us now lol
   They made you vulnerable
You haven’t done anything like that since you were a piglet with sounder
Just kill Wilbur, then he won’t tell
“I think Phil would be mad if I murdered his son for any reason Chat, ‘specially one I couldn’t explain.” he laughed bitterly. “Gods, I don’t even remember doing that before, I must have been small.”
He emptied his inventory, “I’m gonna have to talk to them about this huh?” Techno scrubbed his hands up and down his face, “Fuck, I left my godsdamn mask there too. This sucks. Why didn’t you all stop me huh?”
   Tried to warn you
   You didn’t listen genius
When he runs through the woods w/o his mask for anyone to see
   RIP intentional vulnerability
   Just kill ‘em
“Whatever, I’m sure you didn’t try very hard. Let’s get this over with, gods Tommy’s gonna be so smug isn’t he?” The piglin grabbed his spare armor and headed towards the exit.
He walked quickly but stuck to the shadows.
Chat whispered among themselves, with the occasional voice rising above the chorus.
   Walk of shame lol
   Hullo
   Dream’s here!
   Jbaited
   Rivals duo my beloved <3
   Dream?
“You know he isn’t here, he has better things to do than stalk me through the woods. I’m not even gonna look, you guys are so annoying.” Technoblade muttered to his eternal audience as he approached the ravine base once more. “Alright now or never to move to another server where nobody’s heard of me?”
   You scared of Tommy?
   C’mon runt
   You made a promise
“Right,” he sighed and headed inside.
The entry room was empty, and there was no yelling upon his arrival so he headed further into the ravine. He wandered down the stairs and past the pit, but didn’t hear any chatter until the main room’s doorway was visible.
“Hullo.” he called out blankly, about a foot away from the door where he could see the others bickering among themselves
All four spun at the sound of his voice.
“Technoblade! You’re back, much sooner than I expected, big man.” Tommy called out immediately as he dashed towards the boy.
He took a quick step back at the approach, “Yeah whatever, this may be extra armor but it still has thorns on it.”
Tommy stopped and glanced back at Tubbo before bouncing in place and nodding. “Yeah, yeah, ‘course.”
Tubbo moved behind Tommy and leaned over his shoulder, “Feeling better?”
Tech scowled, “M’fine, we uh- I need to talk to Wilbur.”
Nikachu furrowed her brow, “Wouldn’t you just rather talk to us all at once?”
Technoblade’s ears flicked downward, “About what?” he glanced to the side.
“Well, uh, maybe about your age, mate? Or your instincts? Take your pick.” Wilbur glanced between the others and then back at the boy in question.
   Chat laughed raucously,
   No hiding anymore little piggie
Ha, you thought you could just avoid this?
Technoblade huffed, “Pretty sure the last group session discussed my age quite enough, and the instincts thing doesn’t matter.”
Tubbo breathed out slowly in exasperation, “Beg to differ on that one but, uh, whaddya need to talk with Wilbur about then?”
“Then beg I guess? You aren’t Wilbur so I don’t see how you need to know.” Techno drawled out.
Tommy choked down a laugh and rolled his eyes but held his tongue.
Niki glanced over to Wilbur, who shrugged then gestured for Techno to follow.
The boy walked past the others without a backwards glance and firmly ignored any sense of deja vu.
Wanna hold his hand this time?
Techno kept his hands firmly in his pockets.
“Alright Techno, what’s up?” Wilbur sprawled across his bed and tossed his coat into one of the many piles of clothes.
He stood firmly in place and looked to the left of the man, “I know you don’t talk with Philza much, but I need to make sure this stays where it is.”
Wilbur coughed out a laugh and threw a hand in front of his face. “Sorry, no, one minute!” he slowed his breathing for a moment, “You wake up from a three day daze where your only desire is for someone to hug you, immediately run away, and then the first thing you wanna talk about isn’t how you’re repressing your instincts or that you’re fourteen years old, no it’s to make sure I don’t snitch to my dad?”
Techno stood stock still except for his tail wrapping anxiously around his ankle and his ears folding back on his head.
He laughed again, “That- that’s funny kid, what are you even worried about? That I’ll call Phil up casually with a little; ‘Hey dad haven’t seen you in awhile, you know your best mate the emperor turned anarchist? Well he’s actually a kid, how funny’s that?’ that’s really your biggest concern right now?”
Technoblade fidgeted in place for a moment before looking at Wilbur head on. “Are you finished then? Or do you need another minute to giggle like an idiot?” he leaned backwards, shutting the door with his body weight. “Do you wanna know what my biggest concern is Soot? Are you curious, Wilbur?”
   Roll intimidation lol
   Blood pog?
Wil sat up slowly, glancing around the room discreetly at the blocked exit and the faux-casual state of the hybrid. “Sure, what is it?”
“My biggest concern, right now, is whether you walk out of this room or not.” Techno answered lightly as he looked up to the ceiling. “In case you’ve forgotten, oh mighty president, I am a lot of things, and one of those is a warrior. That is why you begged me to join your cause isn’t it?”
The man stared for a long moment, “Are you gonna kill me Technoblade? Gonna stab me with that pick you swung around earlier? Then what, you gonna kill Tommy and Tubbo? Kill Nikachu? For what hmm? To keep a secret? How are you gonna explain that to Phil?” Wilbur smiled tightly, “Cause listen, you’re Phil’s best friend in the world, so you know that there are a lot of things he’s willing to forgive. Is this one of them? I don’t think it is mate. Let me be clear, if you’re willing to kill us all just to keep Philza from thinking differently of you, then you must know that it’s a pointless endeavor. So cut the shit hmm? Let’s not pretend we’re willing to do things we aren’t.”
   Chat began to cackle;
Oh how did that work out for you little pig?
   L
   Oh my god
   Man you’re so obvious
Technoblade tensed for a moment before sighing and sliding down the door to sit on the floor. “That wasn’t ever gonna work was it?” he asked with a self deprecating laugh.
Wil raised his eyebrows and chuckled before rolling off the bed to sit across from the piglin. “No, not really. Did you think it would?”
“I mean, not particularly, but it was worth a shot, y’know?” he leaned his head forward onto his knees. “Where do ya wanna go from here Soot?”

Will there be consequences if we try to pursue more than one romance at the same time? 👀
i'm honestly not sure yet. at the most you'll just have one or both of the ROs confront you about it after the lock in but i haven't quite figured out how i'm going to code it yet, and with the way this update went i'm dreading any and all coding at this point 😬 lol
with lea and merry i am planning to have a bit in the opening of ch3 where you can confirm that you're interested in both of them or just one of them, so you can lock into the poly route - that's the earliest lock in just for my own sanity lmfao. depending how far you went with either of them in ch2 will determine what kind of scenes you'll get, if any, if you choose only one of them.
as for the others... ch2 doesn't have a lot of flirting, so the game is going to rely on your choices in ch1 and who you went with in blackwater and will kind of assume things, for both romance and friendships. i designed ch1 the way i did so people could play through all the branches and get a feel for the characters since ch2 will be a lot more plot and a lot of stat checking for flavor text rather than outright flirt choices.
specifically for the blackwater route in ch2 the scenes you get after combat with all the companions will check whether you've flirted with them or not as well as how many times you've flirted with them, and you can probably get multiple romantic-ish scenes for more than one. like if you've flirted with someone once you'll get a more platonic scene, with the option to flirt/slight romantic tones. but then if you flirted with someone else like 3 times then you'll get the actual full romantic scene for them.
ch3 will be where you're going to make the Choice, and it honestly just... depends. like if you flirted with noel once and then got the flirt option in ch2 and then pick xem in ch3, but you also had already flirted with lea 3 times and got their romance scene in ch2 then lea might feel some type of way 🤷 it's hard to say for sure since i haven't written all the scenes yet, and it depends on your choices how far you want to take it in ch2.
i don't want to say there are "consequences" but yes i do plan to have companions react/talk to you about it if it calls for it.

Helping a ‘friend’ ‘Hey, (Y/N). You’re up early’ Steve greeted her, happy to see her without the egotistical God by her side.
‘Morning Steve’ she said with a hint of sadness in her voice. Something was wrong, he could tell.
‘What’s wrong?’ he asked. He was hoping that Loki would have slipped yesterday and that they had a fight. If they had broken up, it surely would make reaching his goal easier. He felt a little bad about manipulating her, it was not something he would normally do. But she was too oblivious to see that Loki is bad for her, she deservers better, much better.
‘Can we talk for a moment?’ she asked him.
‘Of course!’ he replied, he was growing anxious. Maybe Loki had said or done something to paint him in a bad light. He had to admit that it was extremely difficult to manipulate the God, or outsmart him. He followed her to the living room where they sat down on the couch. Steve immediately noticed the distance between them, which was larger than usual.
‘You know that Loki has some trouble with us hanging out. And last night it became worse. So, I think it is best to maybe keep some distance between us for some time. At least until Loki sees that there is nothing going on’ she told him.
‘(Y/N) if that’s what you really want, of course! I can’t say I will not miss you, but I never want to come between the two of you’ he replied, trying hard not to grit his teeth or to let the disdain of Loki show.
‘Yeah, I’ll miss you too. But I think I need some time to work on the relationship. We soon will be taking some time of to go away for a weekend. And after Loki is comfortable it all will go back to normal’ she smiled.
‘It’s always a good idea to work on your relationship. But if I can be honest, I am starting to grow a little concerned’ Steve replied, hoping to cause some doubt in her mind about the relationship.
‘Why?’ she asked.
‘Well, what if he never comes around? What if instead of working through his issues he just finds another guy to be jealous of? I mean, he is basically deciding who you can and can’t hang out with and I don’t think that is right. That shouldn’t happen in a healthy relationship. He has nothing to worry about, but what if one day there is a guy he should worry about? What will he do then?’ She explained.
Steve saw the wheels in her head turning. She probably would go through with the plan she had, but he knew in the back of her mind these words would linger. ‘Like I said, I don’t want to come between the two of you. But maybe something to watch out for’ he added, before it became too obvious what he was trying to do.
‘Eh.. yeah. Thanks for your concern, I’ll watch out’ she hesitantly replied, still deep in thought about his words.
‘But I have one favour the ask’ he said.
‘I actually have a date next week and I wanted to cook risotto. Your favourite if I’m not mistaking. And I was hoping I could practice tonight and you would eat with me? Tell me if it is any good?’ he asked.
‘Oh, ehm.. I don’t know with Loki..’ she started, but Steve interjected.
‘I know, but you know I can’t go to anyone else for this. Loki has to go on a mission anyway and will be gone. He never has to know! And after that you can work on your relationship. Please, I really need your help’ he whined putting on his best puppy-eyes.
He saw that she became uneasy, finding it hard to reject him. ‘Oh okay, but only if Loki is still gone and he doesn’t find out. It will be one of the last things we will do together for some time.’
‘Yes of course! Thank you so much (Y/N)’ Steve replied happily. All right, one down, one more to go he thought.
After the conversation she went off to work. They would meet at dinner time in the kitchen and eat there. Steve had already bought everything he needed for tonight. He would cook, reminisce and the two of you would drink some wine. Hopefully her guard would be down and then the tricky part. He had to plan his next move the moment Loki figured out what was really going on. Thinking of Loki, Steve needed to get him away from her for the rest of the day.
After waiting for a while Loki finally made it out of bed. Steve had to supress a grin when he saw how hung-over he was.
‘Good morning, Loki’ Steve said with a loud voice.
Loki flinched and really didn’t look happy to see Steve.
‘What do you want’ he grumbled while making some coffee for himself.
‘I have a mission for you’ Steve said.
‘What is it?’ Loki snapped.
‘We suspect that some of our opponents are using a form of magic we never encountered before. I was hoping you would go to the Sanctuary and find out everything about it. Since you are the one with the most knowledge about magic’ he explained, hoping to distract Loki with some flattery. Loki was intrigued and Steve started to tell him all he knew. It was true that there were rumours about this, but it was probably false. Anyway, it could wait months before they researched it but he needed Loki gone for today. He had figured that the best way to manipulate the God is not by lying, but by telling the truth and implying. That way Loki had a feeling he was lying, but could never be sure.
‘That is going to take all day…’ Loki grumbly replied when Steve was done talking.
‘I know, but it is important to know. Plus, maybe it would take your mind off things with (Y/N)’ he said.
That cleared Loki’s head and Steve knew he had to be careful know and do it exactly as rehearsed.
‘What do you mean?’ Loki growled at him.
‘Oh sorry, I thought she had told you’ he replied. Not a lie, he actually expected her to tell Loki about their dinner tonight.
‘We spoke this morning and I told her that I didn’t want to come between the two of you. But I invited her to dinner tonight. She probably didn’t tell you because she doesn’t want to worry you. I mean, it probably means nothing, but you know about our history’ he said. It was word for word the truth, maybe in the wrong order. But it implied a whole different story than what happened this morning.
Steve was startled when Loki grabbed him by his throat and pinned him to the wall behind him. For a moment he forgot that Loki, even tough he was good now, was still a very dangerous person if he was angered. Loki started to rant about all the ways he would kill him if he ever lay his eyes on her.
‘You know she would never forgive you if you killed me’ Steve reacted to Loki’s rant.
With a growl Loki let go of Steve’s throat. ‘Look, if you want you can confront her. Just come by tonight’ Steve said.
Loki narrowed his eyes at him. Probably trying to figure out what game Steve is playing. This was not something Loki saw coming.
‘FINE’ he growled. ‘I see the two of you at six’ he angrily added.
‘Actually, it would be better if you were here at seven’ Steve replied. Carefully picking his words, trying not to reveal the fact that she would be here at six.
At dinner Steve had cooked and she arrived right on time. He had only an hour before Loki would be back and storm inside. He needed to execute his plan right before he could, otherwise she would find out about his manipulation. He was smart enough to have a camera in the hallway which he monitored from his mobile phone. Giving him a head start when Loki would arrive. Currently he was focusing on her telling stories. The two of them were laughing and drinking. After about half an hour he was reminiscing about the past, dropping subtle hints about their last date.
He was still slapping himself mentally for not giving her a chance then. When he finally saw how amazing she was, she just started to date Loki. The thought angered Steve, but after tonight he would have time to win her over. And he was not going to let her go, it would be the best for everyone involved. Even though his methods were questionable, it was the right thing to do.
Every time her wine glass was empty he filled it back up again. He needed her reaction time to slow down and needer her off guard. Five minutes before seven he saw Loki angrily walking through the lobby. So, Steve said his plan in motion.
‘(Y/N) if you don’t mind I need your help some more’ he started. He scooched closer against her and grabbed her hand. He looked into her eyes and met her half-drunk gaze. The door swung open, he grabbed the back of her head and kissed her. With one eye open he saw the hurt expression on Loki’s face. For a split-second Loki froze, before storming away. (Y/N) pushed herself away from Steve.
‘What the hell?’ she yelled.
‘I’m sorry. It’s just I really wanted to kiss her and my last kiss was you. So, I wanted to know, you know what to do’ Steve quickly explained.
He saw her angry expression, he needed to distract her. He needed her heartbroken so he could be there for her. ‘I think Loki just saw us’ he said.
He watched her expression change from anger to shock. She quickly stood up and ran towards Loki’s bedroom. Steve slowly walked after her. He heard her call Loki’s name, it sounded like she was crying. It broke his heart, but it needed to be done. She needed to be free of him. He walked into the bedroom to saw her pace around frantically with a note in her hand. She was still crying. He took the note from her.
I can’t believe I ever trusted you
Steve had to supress an eye-roll. Loki was always too dramatic for his taste. Both of their head turned towards the yard when they heard a familiar sound. She ran past Steve to the yard and he followed her again. When he caught up with her she was sitting on her knees in the middle of the burned grass. Steve immediately recognized the pattern. Loki had taken the Bifrost and was gone, just like Steve expected that he would. He slowly walked beside her and sat down on his knees too.
‘I’m so sorry (Y/N). I never meant for this to happen! As soon as I can, I will talk to Thor and tell him about what happened’ Steve started to comfort her. He pulled her closer against his chest, she was still sobbing. She was so wrapped up in her pain that she couldn’t see what was really going on. Steve meant what he said. As soon as Thor would be back he would explain himself, knowing that Thor was probably livid with Steve after hearing Loki’s version of events. But Thor wouldn’t be in Asgard for another three months, so he would be back here in about four months. Which gave Steve four months to make (Y/N) forget about Loki and to start dating her. He would make Loki the bad guy in the story, after she believes him Thor would too. Then Loki would just look like the jealous ex-boyfriend. Making Loki the bad guy isn’t that hard, he is the God of Lies after all he thought while comforting (Y/N). They sat like that for a while. And Steve couldn’t help but feel relieved that Loki was far away, while she was in his arms.

 Chapter 5
Next thing I remember was opening my eyes and seeing Law’s face. He was carrying me in his arms, my hearing went from a loud buzzing to his voice. “Y/n-ya, answer me, come back, are you with me??”, my best friend kept asking me while running. I gave him a smile, and the only thing I could say to him was, “I’m sorry”, until I passed out again.
The night sky was deep blue, full of stars and a big moon that enlightened the whole room. I recovered my senses a few hours after, since Law has saved my life, once again. He was next to me, brushing his hand over my forehead, looking straight at the door with his katana on the other hand. I was lying on my bed. Around me, a whole disaster, everything I owned was scattered over the floor.
Once again, the first words that came out from my mouth were “I’m sorry”. I have put my whole crew, Law, and even my life in danger just because of my stupid pride… My personal doctor smiled at me and told me to shut up. He began to cry, openly, looking directly to my face. He was not hiding under his hat, not even over my chest. He was showing me how hurt he was, and this was for sure the very first time I’ve seen him cry like this. “I am the one who should be sorry. I left you alone, I abandoned you. Everything because I was scared, because I didn't want to accept how much I love you, I was afraid of changing, of putting you in danger. Look how you’ve ended because of me, they were searching for me…” he said, hitting his chest with his hand in a fist. He continued, “That’s the reason I wouldn’t really admit that the love I felt was more than just caring for a friend… I’m sorry Y/n-ya. I’m sorry… everything I said, it was a lie… I’ve loved you since...forever. You were always my star, the only person I could look at, when I was in the dark, you shine so bright, you light up my soul…”. I tried to get up from bed, but a throbbing pain on my ribs stopped me from it. “ugh… Law…”, he told me to remain still on bed, and informed me that 5 of my left ribs were broken. I wanted to say so many things, to tell him it was alright, that I wanted to go back to the polar and resume our journey as if nothing happened, but… it wasn’t that easy, I was hurt too. I remained silent, looking through the window, searching for the best words to say, to express everything I had inside my chest.
I finally decided to speak. Law was still crying, but he wouldn’t guard down, he was protecting me. I said, “Oi, dumbass… how did you find me?”, “I followed your vivre card, of course” he answered sobbing. “Yeah, but… how did you get here so fast? where were you?”, I asked. I guess his cheeks turned to red, he seemed as if he was blushing, and after stuttering a little, he confessed, “I.. we.. I stayed in the submarine on the other side of the island, I was scared. Everybody agreed on waiting for you…”.
He was always here?... of course, he was, his vivre card would always point to the same place. And... that time I went exploring the whole island, I thought I saw the guys in the distance, on the shore… I... thought it was just my imagination… I began to cry and laugh at the same time, covering my eyes with my hands. “I love you, dumbass. I love you more than anything, you were always here, you didn’t abandon me”. Suddenly I was so happy, I knew he wouldn’t leave me, I knew he would always protect me... I knew it. I was full of joy...
Law laid next to me in bed, softly because he knew how hurt I was, hugged me and kissed my forehead. He had the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen. He looked so relieved. The warmth I felt on my chest when I had his vivre card over, I was now feeling it all over my body.
We stayed like this for a few minutes until Law said, “You need to rest, and I need to be alert in case some more bastards come”. I calmed him, “they won’t come here, they think we are on the submarine, leaving this city… Do you remember your vivre card?”. He looked at me, worried. I continued, “I’m sure you think that yonkou’s subordinates have found and stolen your vivre card from here, right?”. He nodded and said, impatient, "yes, when I was beating the shit out of them, I heard that they have finally found it, how come they don't have it?". “If I have learned something from you throughout all of this years is to plan things out… Yesterday morning, before leaving home I got the feeling that I should carry your vivre card with me…” I slowly pulled the little paper from my bra and showed it to him. He widened his eyes and was about to say something, but I resumed speaking like a smart detective, “Yet, a few days ago I thought of how dangerous it was that someone could find your vivre card, my dear ex Shichibukai…so, I made a fake one, I used some fish scales that I took from a fish of the river to make it, write your name on it, and leave it on that little box you now see empty over the dresser. So, I think they might be following that fish...”. Law’s face was priceless, at first, he was dumbfounded, but a few seconds later we both burst into laughing.
Despite how painful it was to laugh with a few broken ribs I couldn’t help it. It was too funny, and it was the first time I laughed since a long long time. I missed those days when we were younger, had no place to stay and even if the cold was getting into the bones, a few stupid phrases of Bepo or Penguin made us laugh uncontrollably. It was, after all, our "Laugh Tale".
“Oi, you should eat something, are you hungry?”, asked my doctor, to which I replied with a sexy smile “I am hungry for you, doc”. “I’d love to fuck you right here, right now, as hard as I want, but It wouldn’t be ethic, you’ll be in pain…” he said straightforwardly to my face. I gasped; I love how Law gets when he is horny… “Now, tell me where the food is, I’m going to cook something”, he said and I pointed to a few groceries that were still on the counter.
Law gathered a few of the things that were scattered all over the floor and promised me to clean everything up tomorrow. He was acting like a husband, how cute.
I contemplated how he focused on cooking frowning. The last time I saw him cooking was when we were little, sometimes he woke me up with breakfast, sometimes he would broil some potatoes, but somehow every time he did, his eyes got sad. So, before Penguin, Shachi and Bepo arrived I normally cooked for him.
“Here, let me help you sit on the bed”, he said, bringing two plates of some risotto he made for us. He left the plates over the floor, hugged me, put a pillow behind my back and sat me on the bed.
“Mmmh, where did you learn to cook risotto, Law? This meal is delicious!”, I said, delighted with the taste of the food. He looked at me with one of his cheeks poofed with food and smiled with his eyes. My heart skipped a beat when I saw that smile, I’m so in love with him, damn it…
The foliage of the trees that surrounded my little room began to move every time the autumn breeze blew through them. Everything was so calm. I felt as if no more danger was around me, as if nothing that could happen from now on, could be worse than being apart from Law.
We chatted for a little bit while eating, we were happy, no worries, Law never stopped smiling and neither did I. He helped me to lay down on bed again, and he did the same next to me. “I love you”, Law whispered to me while grabbing my face with his hands, softly caressing my cheeks with his thumbs. Our noses touching, both smiling. “I love you too…”.
Morning came and a sweet smell of honey woke me up. Law was softly kissing my forehead with a cup of tea on his hands. “Good morning darling, I made you a green tea with honey”. I covered my mouth trying not to laugh, but it was impossible. I broke out laughing. Don’t get me wrong, I thought that what he did was the most cute thing ever… but… can you imagine Trafalgar D. Water Law being all cute and romantic? “This is the first time you call me “darling”, I’m sorry”, I said and kept giggling. His face changed to a poutier one so I stopped laughing, “I’m sorry Law… I mean… babe?.” I said and took a sip of the tea.
He gave me a little smirk, and directed his sight to the floor while saying, “I’m ok with any name you call me, I like “babe”, It makes me happy”. This was the first time I saw him in love, and it was… with me.
After breakfast, he washed the dishes and called Bepo. “Aya aya, Captain!! how are you? is Y/n with you? is she ok?!”, screamed the polar bear on the other side of the line. “Oi Bepo, yes, she is with me, she is ok. Are you ok? did you notice something suspicious or any movements last night?”. Ah… Law, always talking like he is some sort of a secret agent of the marines…. “Captain, Penguin speaking. We saw two ships leave the coast at night, they got the Beast pirates flag. They didn’t see us; we were hiding as you told”. “Perfect, Y/n-ya has five broken ribs, I put them in place, but she will have to rest on the mainland for a few days, the pressure of the submarine could make the pain worse if she goes immediately underwater. Please, keep informing me at any suspicious movement. And don’t worry, they aren’t following my vivre card”, Law informed my nakamas and hung up the den den mushi.
“Y/n-ya... darling… I should change your bandages and treat your wounds, are you up for it?”, he asked like the good doctor he is. “Yes, honey, let’s do it. I’m sure you already know, but there are some supplies in the bathroom, but If they aren’t enough, you could go and ask Dr. Saturn, I’ve been working with him as his medical assistant”, I told him. He looked at me, and suddenly his eyes turned to fire. Law rarely loses his taciturn countenance, but that time his face transformed into pure hate. “What is it?”, I asked him without any clue of what was happening. “That bastard, that “doctor”, he sold you to the pirates”, he almost shouted. Profoundly shocked, I mumbled “What? how… how did you know?”. “I investigated while we were apart, I didn’t mean to follow you or else, but… I was worried, I wanted to protect you… even though I let these things happen to you”, he said now with a guilty tone, while unfolding the bandages. “It’s ok, it’s now over, from now on we will be together to protect us” ... I told him with a side smile that soon turned into a little wince.
Soon I was left with no bandages on my body, my torso naked, covered in bruises and scuffs. Law softly brushed some cotton embedded on alcohol over the scuffs, he was so delicate that It felt almost as a tickle sensation. His hands always worked as stethoscopes because of the Ope Ope no mi, so he then placed a hand over my heart and checked my heartbeat. The cold breeze and the soft touch of his hands over my nipples made them turn hard, and a little gasp slipped out of my mouth. The touch of skin over mine lit a fire inside of me.
Law looked at me top to bottom, finally worshipping with his intense grey eyes, my boobs. Licking his upper lip, he slowly approached his mouth over one of my erect nipples. He licked it from bottom up, fixing his eyes on mine, smirking sexy. My body squirmed as the sensation of his wet tongue struck me with a wave of pleasure. Even if It hurt, even if I had a few broken ribs, that little action made me wish he fucked me hard, I needed to, I had a real lust for him.
He kept on using his mouth, he would lick, softly bite, suck both of my tits, gently enough to avoid my ribs hurt.
“Oi, let me put you some bandages, if not… we can’t continue…”, he said. And I, that I was lost in the arousal that Law was producing on me, agreed. He started folding my torso with the elastic bandages, the pressure over my skin that sometimes hurt, also contributed to the heat of the moment. “Imagine if instead of bandages, I used some ropes…” he softly whispers next to my ear from behind.
I turned my face to the side and reached for his mouth. We kissed passionately, lustfully, erotically.
The bandages were so tightly snuggled that I couldn’t feel any pain. Law managed to tight them perfectly so they could be holding my ribs but letting my breasts free of them.
My lover delicately laid me down on the bed, took off his shirt and settled over me. Law ran his hand over my face, caressing my skin, while maintaining his weight with the other arm at the side of my head. I kissed his palm with the side of my mouth. This moment felt magical for us, our eyes interlocked with pure love for each other, it was more than just pleasure. He was making love to me, and I did too.
His fingers travelled from my face to my sex, getting moistened with how wet I was. His tattooed index finger lingered over my clit tracing circles around and over it. A few moments later he put the finger on my mouth requesting me with a “taste your flavour” to lick his finger. I sucked it so lewdly, that made him groan loudly.
He knelt in front of me and used his middle and ring finger with a “come hither” motion inside of me, spotting the G point, making me arch my back and moan loudly. And as if that pleasure wasn’t enough, he also used his tongue over my pleasure button. I cummed so hard, squirting his whole hand.
Far from being exhausted I invited Law to release the bulge trapped into his trousers and to come near my mouth. “I want you to jack off and fuck my mouth, babe” I asked him with an inviting obscene tone. The surgeon gasped and as fast as he could took his pants off. I opened my mouth with my head over the pillow sticking my tongue out, awaiting to taste his sweet member.
First, I licked it, then I grabbed it with my hands and placed it inside of my mouth. Law was so heated that couldn’t resist himself and hold my jaw in order to fuck my mouth, first cautiously, but then violently as he left himself go with the desire and the pleasure he was experiencing. I fixed my teary eyes on his, choking with the length and width of his hard rock pennis. He didn’t finish, but instead, went straight to fuck me.
Again, he was settled over me, delicately penetrating me, with soft thrusts at first but increasing the pace with every pounding. He strongly held my wrists over my head while fucking me.
Letting me go he approached his body to mine, letting the side of his abs slightly rest over my stomach in order not to put so much pressure over my ribs. He charged all of his weight over the right side of his body and his elbow on the bed and kept on fucking me. The penetration was slowly just for the both of us to feel every movement in detail. Law stroked my hair as I whined more and more with pleasure. We both came almost together, with our mouths pressed moaning “I love you”.
Three days after, I felt better enough to take a walk, so after the guys confirmed that the city was free of dangerous enemies, we left the house for the first time. The fall had fully arrived at the island, warmth colours, chilly breeze that softly made some far away sunflower fields dance, the floor covered in dry red and brown tinted leaves, a few pumpkins that the citizen had on their porches, some shop owners already putting up Halloween decorations and a few kids playing on the street were part of the scenery of our walk. Law didn’t speak much as always, and I was enjoying how his tanned skin got bathed by the orangey tones of the afternoon sun.
Eventually, we arrived at the city centre, where the local producers market was taking place. I told Law that I wanted to buy some flowers from Mrs. Ann stand at the fair as I always did. He smiled at me, showing he agreed, and I started almost running. I recognized that I could be a little childish and impulsive sometimes, especially for someone like Law. “Oi! don’t run babe!!” he warned me and grabbed my hand in order to stop me. I looked back at him; my hair got blown by the wind as well as my skirt. I gave him a wide grin, slid my arm so that he could now hold my hand and pulled him towards me. The very first seconds he looked so mad at me, but then he let himself go and followed my pace with a big smile. We were almost running, holding hands, making the crows and larks fly off the streets scared of us.
“Hello Mrs. Ann, I’m here to buy you some pretty flowers, what bouquets do you suggest?” I asked the florist. “Hello, my dear! you seemed so happy today! who is this handsome young man that joins you today?!”, she said curious. My smile quickly faded, and I realized that we still haven’t talked about what we actually are, so, “Uhm… he is…”, “His boyfriend, I’m his boyfriend”, Law ended my sentence with a straight face. I blushed and giggled, I felt as if a hundred butterflies were flying inside of my stomach. Mrs Ann smiled at us, with genuine happiness, and said “So, this time we should let him pick the flowers for you, right young man?”. Law pointed to the sunflower’s bouquet and timidly said “Those, her favourite flowers are sunflowers, so I guess I’ll take those”. “Good choice boy, you know why sunflowers are so special? They usually face the sun, but whenever it is cloudy, they face each other so they get enough energy… Same goes with couples, whenever there are clouds in the sky, they should count on each other, until the sun comes back again, and both can enjoy it together”. Law smiled at her and then at me, I know for sure that we both count with each other, I know we do.  We bought some more groceries and ended up having a picnic on the fields. This life was somehow better than I thought, but soon our couple time should be over. Our journey must continue, our missions should be complete, and we were young, we would have plenty of time once we achieve our goals to grow old together.
Two days after we returned to the submarine, and despite spending the last two days thinking of a better way to communicate with our crew that we… were dating, we couldn’t find the perfect way. Law was mortified, he hates to show emotions, and whenever our crew knows the big news, the amount of energy it's going to be too much to handle.
We could sight the Polar Tang that was moored on the coast, everybody was on the deck waving at us, shouting our names. Law was slowly hiding under the coat collar with every scream, and I was waving at them. I have missed them so much. “Guuuuuys!! guuuuuys!!! oii!!” I screamed, Law grabbed my hand and said, “be careful, you are not fully recovered yet”. “I’m sorry doc, I’ll behave… I promise. That means also no more sex until I get fully healthy, right?” He looked at me with a “how dare you?” expression but I kept talking, “fufufu… don’t worry I was joking, I couldn’t say no to getting railed by you, babe…”. I winked at him and he smirked saying “You are a lost cause…”.
The whole crew hugged me, expressing to me how much they have missed me, that I shouldn’t ever leave again and asked me why the hell I had left the submarine in the first place. I told them that tonight we should have a party and that Law, and I would explain everything in detail. My nakamas agreed on such a good plan and began to prepare everything to set sail.
I saw Law carrying my stuff inside, so I followed him. He entered his room with my baggage, and I stopped at the door… “Law, why are you putting my stuff in your room?” I asked, a little confused. “We are going to sleep together from now on, this should be your room too, right?” I widened my eyes, what have I done to the cold emo boy I once knew? I was pleased but surprised for sure. “Well, I’m fluttered, are you willing to hear me snore every night from now on?”, I asked, mocking him. “I’m ok with hearing you snore, if that is the price I have to pay for fucking you every night and cuddling with you”, he said, with a calm attitude. We both laughed and he helped me to unpack everything. While putting everything in place I saw an old polaroid we took back at Dressrosa after the big fight over his nightstand, and over it there was the necklace I had returned to him last time I was in the submarine. “Oi, babe, can you put me the necklace back, please” I said, holding it in my hands and showing it to him. Law smiled, approached me, and while he passed the chain on my neck, he said “Next jewel I’d like to put on you will be a ring…”. I giggled a little and kissed his cheek.
The night came and we were already in the middle of the sea, the sky was garnished with little stars that lit up our party, and the guys were drinking, dancing, and shouting.  I decided that I’ll never leave them again, whatever comes to us, whatever happens between Law and I, this was my family, and I would be always with them no matter what.
I went inside looking for a blanket because the night breeze at the open sea could be quite cold. We usually keep some blankets in a little room next to the kitchen for easy access in case we emerge, and someone has to guard on the outside. Suddenly someone hugged me from behind. I instantly recognized my beloved sweet scent. He placed his chin over my shoulders, and his hands wrapped around my low stomach. We remained like this for a few moments, enjoying our company, dancing to the music that came from outside. We began to kiss gently, and Law closed the little door. We laughed while our lips were still pressed and then with our foreheads also. The joy and intimacy I experienced was so cute, as if we were just married… "stop, let me help us with something, SILENTO" I said, and snapped my fingers, creating a safe space where nobody in the submarine could listen to us with the power of my Nagi Nagi no mi. "Nobody can hear us now, we can be as naughty as we want'' I told him with a lascivious expression while grabbing him by his chin. That probably fanned the flames even more, so he pushed me against the wall and while kissing me, he started unbuttoning my trousers, and then almost ripping my panties off too. He put 2 fingers on my mouth for me to suck on them just to made them wet with my saliva. He shoved them into my pussy and moved them as he only knew how to. While he was fingering me, with the hand that until then was on my breast, he took off his pants revealing a huge erection that was about to be inside of me.
He grabbed one of my thighs, holding it up, just to spread my legs even more so he could fuck me even deeper, right there, standing, with my back pressed against some sort of metallic wall. I wasn't able to think anything besides how I wanted him to fulfill me with his hard cock. He fucked me so hard, I almost lost full control of my limbs, thank God he was holding me as If I weighed anything less than a feather. Damn, how strong he is. We let ourselves go, and after lustfully enjoying our fleshly lusts, we decided it was time to come back to the party. We were unaware that we climbed the leather to the deck holding hands and smiling at each other, so all of a sudden, the music stopped, as well as the murmur of the crew. Shachi shouted, “I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! of course everything that happened was because of this!” I closed my eyes, waiting for Law to shout and order them to shut the fuck up, but instead he said, “Of course it was because of this, it doesn’t take too much to come up to the conclusion… you idiot”. I started laughing, followed by my nakamas. The whole night came by with us celebrating my return to the submarine and the new couple...
A few adventures and two years after. End of the Grand Line, Laugh Tale Island…
I could still hear Mugiwara and Law laughing, we have achieved the last island, and you won't believe what the “One Piece” was, but that is  just a whole different story that maybe I’ll tell you about it other time.
I was over the deck of the Polar Tang, admiring the beauty of the island that left the horizon back at us… I was thinking how many things we have been through to finally get here. Life hasn’t been easy to none of us, but surely, we made it happier, together. I wonder what our future has prepared us from now on.
A strong wind blew my hair, and I could sense as if someone was behind me. I thought it was Law, but when I turned around, I saw a blond man, wearing a blue feather coat, a heart patterned shirt and a hat that I could recognize real fast. His image wasn’t clear, but I could see him though. “Hello, Mrs. Trafalgar, please don’t freak out. I’m sure you know who I am… I came here to thank you. Thank you for taking care of my little boy, how big he got…”. I knew he was “Cora-san”, I wasn’t scared, I knew he was the kindest person in the world. “Thank you, Mr. Rosinante, you saved Law’s life, I’ll always be grateful for what you’ve done for him. He is who he is for you”. The guy with a blue mark under his right eye, and some lipstick that made his smile even bigger, nodded and said, “by the way, congrats, Rosinante could be a great name, plus it goes well with the D…”. Next, I heard Law calling me “Y/N-ya, what are you doing here all by yourself?”, I turned around and he was coming my way, with a confused expression. I looked back at where Rosinante was, but he had already disappeared.
Law hugged me, he was happy and placed his head on my chest. “Did I tell you how much I love to hear your heart beating?”, he asked me still with his head over my chest. “You did, darling, it won’t ever stop beating for you”. Law smiled but suddenly his face turned to a more serious one. He stopped hugging me, and asked with a worried face, “Babe, how many hearts do you have?”, “You are a cardiac surgeon, I’m sure you know how many hearts I have, Law”, I said laughing. “Yeah, because I know that people normally have one, it’s not normal that I hear two hearts beating inside of… wait…” He stopped talking, looked at me and concluded everything in no time. “Babe… are you?... Am I going to be... a father?”, he said with tears on his eyes. “Congratulations, daddy”, I said, and Law hugged me so tight, holding me up in the air crying with pure joy in his heart. We remained hugged until a little bird flew past over us and a blue feather felt over us…
The End ♥
Thanks for reading! I’m open for requests, so if want me to, just ask ♥

The Golden Heir Chapter 2 - The Box [Ch1] [Ch3] [Ch4] [Ch5] [Ch6] [Ch7] [Ch8]
When she woke up in the dark, odd little box prison, Goldie’s first thought was oh alright, at least I’m still alive.
Her next thoughts were wondering how long she’d been out and where she was and why the hell did Black Heron show up out of nowhere and kidnap her? She had nothing to do with F.O.W.L. or S.H.U.S.H. so whatever was going on had to involve Scrooge and Twenty-Two. Beakley. Whatever.
She reached into her pocket to grab her phone and rolled her eyes at the realization that all her pockets had been completely emptied. Great. And she couldn’t see anything in any direction - the room was pitch black. She slid her feet across the floor until hitting walls and determined her prison was about sixteen square feet.
As she hit one of the walls, she noticed the sound was different. Sounded like reinforced glass. Goldie put her hands on the wall and leaned her face as close as possible to see if she could see anything. Her eyesight wasn’t the greatest, but it certainly wasn’t bad for her age.
After a moment of light adjustment, she saw red lights. Small, glowing red lights evenly spaced maybe a hundred feet away from her. There were...a lot of them. With a quick scan of the angles, Goldie realized she wasn’t on the ground floor, so there was a prison underneath her and perhaps a prisoner there, as well. There were likely prisons to each side of her, too, though she couldn’t be sure F.O.W.L. wasn’t spacing prisoners out to make sure no one could talk to each other.
Well, whatever. It’s not like she could be in a worse situation. Goldie stomped her foot on the floor and both walls, hoping to get a response. Maybe even from someone familiar.
Underneath, no one. To the right? Nothing. But after she knocked on her left, she heard some groaning and realized the other prisoners could still be out of it. Seemed like her new friend was waking up, at least.
“Hey,” Goldie said sharply, leaning as close to the left wall as possible. “Get up.”
She heard the other prisoner shuffling around for a moment before smacking into the wall and groaning in pain. Alright, so immediately she could tell this was someone who’d never been locked up before. Great. Who didn’t love trying to work with amateurs?
“Can you hear me?”
“...I can,” they said, their voice muffled a bit.
Goldie thought the voice sounded a bit familiar, but chose not to linger. She had bigger problems. “What’s the last thing you remember?”
There was a pause before the voice responded. “Well, I was at home getting ready for next Christmas when there was a knock on my door-”
“Christmas?!” Goldie screeched, unable to keep her voice down. “What?! Last time I was awake, it was March!”
“Oh, dear, well, it’s April now, as far as I know,” the voice said softly. “I apologize for making you worry, I just spend most of the year getting prepared.”
Goldie blinked rapidly as she took in this information. Somehow it’d been several days and not only was she still alive, she wasn’t hungry or thirsty or tired. Actually, as she thought about it more, her back and her face didn’t hurt like they should’ve after Heron’s attack. She had a lot of questions about that, but so long as she was alive, she needed to focus on any possible way to escape.
Then the rest of what her ‘new friend’ said finally hit her ears and Goldie frowned in realization. Of course. Of freaking course. “...Claus? Is that you?”
There was a slight hesitation to his voice when he responded. “...yes, it is. Um...hello, Miss O’Gilt.”
“Fantastic. Let me guess, none of your special fancy Christmas magic works in here, right?”
“...well, no. Not that I really have m-”
“Do you have any information about why we’re here or are you completely clueless?”
He didn’t react to being interrupted and just sighed. “No, I’m sorry. I have no idea.”
“...so Scrooge is in trouble, then,” Goldie decided, leaning against the wall and putting a thoughtful hand to her chin. “Or he’s about to be.”
“Should we be worried?” Santa asked, unfamiliar with the type of danger they were in.
Goldie scoffed and shook her head, despite him not being able to see. “He’ll be fine. He’s Scrooge McDuck.”
The polar bear hummed quietly for a moment. “That doesn’t mean he’s invincible.”
She glared into the darkness. “Says you.”
“...I’m surprised you’re so confident in him,” Santa said softly. “From what Scrooge said, you two haven’t been on good terms for quite a while.”
Goldie hmphed and wrapped her arms around herself. “What, and you two are?”
“He and I spent this past Christmas together!” Santa said in a way that Goldie distinctly felt was a brag...not that Mr. Nicest Man In The World was capable of bragging. “So I’d say we are, yes.”
“Well, Saint Nick,” Goldie started and turned to lean on her side. “Not that it’s your business, but Scrooge and I are doing just fine. Better than fine. Unless he’s dead, of course.”
“Please don’t joke about that.”
“Who says I’m joking?” Goldie scoffed. “Maybe we’re here ‘cause he’s already lost. Hard to say when I don’t know where I am or what day it is or why I’m being tortured like this.”
“Tortured?”
“I can’t think of any other reason they’d stick me next to you of all people.”
Santa stayed quiet at that, unable to ignore her dig. He wasn’t comfortable with being disliked, but he’d accepted long ago that some people would just never find his Christmas cheer charming. “...I’ll be quiet, if you’d prefer.”
Goldie raised an eyebrow. “You can do whatever you want. I’m just trying to get out of here.”
He responded with a huff and she heard him shuffle around, clearly moving to the other side of his prison box. She followed in kind and moved to the other side of her own, putting the most amount of space between them as possible.
After a minute of leaning, Goldie chose to sigh and slide down onto her butt. She couldn’t see anything, she couldn’t hear anything new, there didn’t seem to be an escape route and there wasn’t even a villain for her to manipulate. She genuinely wasn’t sure how she’d get herself out of this. Waiting for Scrooge and his family to save her sounded like a nightmare, but it could very well be her only shot.
That is, if Scrooge and his family came to save her at all. Sure, Santa said he and Scrooge were square, but that didn’t mean he would notice that the guy went missing. And Goldie often went weeks or even months without so much as a text or email to the old miser, so he’d never notice that she was gone.
She curled up and laid her forehead on her knees. Maybe this was a wake up call that she should learn to communicate better. Or at least communicate more. She texted Sharpie every other week but he was perfectly aware that she could just disappear at any moment. And the only other person who would even think to look for her...well. They hadn’t spoken in a while, either.
Her heart sunk at the realization that not a single person would notice that she’s gone.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng’s Spite Playlist: Remix CH3
It’s akuma time! This chapter hurts worse down the line, if you can believe it. I have a lot up my sleeve for Alya and Marinette this go round ;)
-------------------------

Chapter 3: Ignorance
Nino entered the locker room, nodding his head to the beat playing in his headphones. Alya was taking the whole Marinette situation hard, so he wanted to make sure she was okay. Maybe they could go out for some ice cream to cool off, then try talking to Marinette about what happened. Surely, there was an explanation for it.
As he rounded the corner of lockers, his eyes widened with terror. Red lips upturned into a sinister smirk, and Hawkmoth’s newest creation stared back at him with a set of familiar hazel eyes.
“Alya?” he gasped.
“Not anymore.” She trailed her thumb over the small pitchfork in her hands. “I’m Backstabber, and I’m going to get revenge against my so-called ‘bff.’”
Nino turned to run, but Backstabber launched a pitchfork straight into his back where it disappeared with a spark. She paced over to him, lifting his chin as tiny devil horns matching her own appeared on his head.
“Now,” she cooed. “Isn’t there something you have to say to your best friend?”
♪♫♪ Let It Die ♪♫♪
Across the street, Adrien and Marinette sat in her living room, picking away at their homework. Adrien was in her living room. Sitting on her couch. Drinking her tea. He was too beautiful for words, his gorgeous green eyes scanning over his maths problem. His face alone made her regret ever leaving Francoise-Dupont. How was she going to survive without seeing his radiance every day?
Marinette was too busy memorizing the rhythm of his breathing to focus on her work, the memory of his arms wrapped around her still fresh. He’d cradled her in his arms. Of course, it was because she was ugly crying, but she would ignore that detail.
Adrien was too perfect for words. How did she ever think that he would abandon her when she left? Their friendship meant a lot to him. She meant a lot to him. It was a fact that she’d spend hours dreaming about. One day he’d hold her in his arms and whisper those three beautiful words. Then they’d get married, have 3 kids and a hamster named-
Adrien’s phone rang, snapping her from her trance, and her heart sank. It was probably his father demanding that he come home like normal, but to her surprise, Nino’s picture flashed on the screen.
“Hey, Nino, what’s up?”
“Ya know what, Adrien? I’m tired of your goody-two-shoes act, pretending you’re all innocent,” Nino said.
Adrien’s eyebrows raised. “What are you talking abou-”
“I’m gonna tell your dad to start homeschooling you again so the rest of us don’t have to put up with you anymore.” Nino hung up with a maniacal laugh.
“What was that about?” Marinette asked.
“I don’t know,” Adrien said, staring down at the screen, “but it can’t be good.”
“You don’t think he was akumatized, do you?” She reached for her purse.
“If not him, then probably someone else, I should get home before things get too crazy. I’m sure Ladybug and Chat Noir will handle everything soon, so stay inside where it’s safe, okay?” He shoved his tablet and textbook back into his school bag quickly. “See you around, Marinette.”
“Uh, yeah, see ya…”
Marinette reached for her purse the moment the door shut behind him. “Let’s get out there and capture this akuma before Nino gets to Gabriel Agreste. Tikki, transform-”
Before she could finish the phrase, the front window of the living room shattered, and Marinette shielded her face from the debris with a yelp. Her purse tumbled under the coffee table out of reach.
“Hey, Marinette.” A familiar face loomed over her with a twisted grin. “Remember me? Your bff?”
“Alya?” Marinette gasped, stumbling over the side of the couch. “What happened to you?”
“Don’t play dumb with me.” She readied another pitchfork. “I’m not Alya anymore. I go by Backstabber now, but I bet you know all about that sort of thing.”
Backstabber tossed a small pitchfork and caught it again as Marinette inched toward the stairs.
“What are you talking about?” She needed to reach her purse, but Backstabber was closing in.
“You know what you did,” she snarled. “I’ve got a pretty pitchfork here, how would you like to shove it into my back? Oh wait, you already did!”
Marinette turned to dash up the stairs, narrowly dodging the pitchfork as her parents burst through the front door.
“Marine- Oh!” her dad gasped before taking a defensive position between Backstabber and the stairs. “I won’t let you hurt my daughter!”
“If you knew what she was really like, you wouldn’t bother protecting her.” Backstabber’s eyes narrowed as Marinette’s mom entered the room. “But tell me, daddykins, can you protect your wife and your daughter?”
With a flick of her wrist, Backstabber launched another pitchfork at Marinette’s mom. Her dad jumped in front of her, turning his back and taking the attack himself.
“Dad!” Marinette gasped as two horns appeared on his head before she retreated through the trap door into her room.
“Tell me, Marinette,” Backstabber continued, pursuing her calmly as Marinette scrambled to the loft stairs. “Did you ever consider me a real friend?”
“Of course, I did!” Marinette paused halfway up.
“Then how could you abandon me?” Backstabber palmed another pitchfork. “How could you leave without telling me?”
“How could you abandon me?” Marinette shot back, eyes stinging. “How could you take someone else’s side over mine? How could you put me in the back of the class by myself and not even apologize?”
“Lila was right about you. You really are just an attention-seeker, always playing the victim,” Backstabber said.
Marinette clenched her jaw before crawling over her bed and through the skylight onto the balcony. She climbed over the wall, wobbling as she made her way out onto the rooftops.
“You know what I think?” Backstabber called, and Marinette spun around to face her. “I think you’re the real liar. Always running late, making up excuses, disappearing suddenly, so what secrets are you hiding, Marinette?”
Before Backstabber could attack, Chat Noir smacked the pitchfork from her hand with his staff. “It’s dangerous to play on the roof. Someone could fall,” he said with his usual taunting lilt.
“I don’t think Marinette can sink any lower.” Backstabber glared through her. Marinette’s hands clenched into fists at her sides.
“What happened to you two? I thought you were best friends,” Chat Noir asked, taking a defensive stance in front of Marinette. “Not too long ago you were putting your neck on the line to save her, and now you’ve turned your back on her?”
“She turned her back on me!” Backstabber shouted.
“Only because you were being a bad friend!” Marinette shot back.
Backstabber flinched, squeezing her eyes shut before she unleashed a slew of pitchforks with a growl.
Chat spun his staff to deflect them as Marinette cowered behind him. She needed to find a way out of this to transform. Maybe Ladybug could talk some sense into Alya, but her purse was still down in the apartment.
“Ah!” he hissed as a pitchfork grazed his arm.
Marinette cupped her hands over her mouth in horror, but nothing happened. “Why didn’t it transform you?” she asked, closing her eyes and picturing her dad. “Of course! Her attacks only work if they hit you in the back.”
“Then I guess we’ll have to keep this battle face-to-face,” he said, wrapping an arm around her, “but first I should get you to safety.”
“Not so fast, kitty!” Backstabber growled, charging in, but he dodged out of the way before she could strike.
Landing in the street, Chat Noir set Marinette down and brandished his staff once more.
“Go! I’ve got your back,” he shouted as Backstabber gave chase. “Cataclysm!”
As Marinette ran up the street, Chat Noir touched his palm to the concrete, opening a crater to the sewers to distract Backstabber while Marinette escaped. She needed to meet up with Tikki before Chat Noir changed back.
Ducking back into the bakery, she tiptoed around the counter and pressed a hand to the side of her mouth. “Tikki?” she called in a hushed tone, creeping over to the backdoor.
“Marinette!”
She jumped as her kwami phased through the floor and flitted into her face.
“Thank goodness.” Marinette breathed a sigh of relief. “Come on, let’s go before Backstabber gets the best of Chat Noir. Transform me!”
Chat Noir’s cries echoed between the buildings as Ladybug stepped out of the bakery, and with a practiced toss, she created a net between two light poles with her yoyo to catch him.
“I see this battle is really flying by,” she said as he climbed down.
“Yeah, and we need to move quick. I don’t have a lot of time left.” He held up his ring finger where three pads flashed.
“Oh look, the cockroach has joined her mangey stray,” Backstabber cooed.
“And she’s about to kick your butt.” Ladybug charged in.
With each strike, Ladybug scanned her person, trying to figure out where the akuma could be hiding. Nothing stood out besides the intricate brooch embedded in her suit. Alya never wore jewelry, and Ladybug couldn’t fathom why the akuma would be there. As she dodged another swing, a familiar photo of the two of them nestled inside the jewel stood out. Back flipping out of the way a few times, she pressed her hands to either side of her mouth.
“Chat Noir! The akuma is in the photo in her necklace!” she called as Backstabber crossed her wrists to block his staff, forcing him back a few paces.
“What’s the plan for getting it because I’m running out of time,” he said urgently—his last two pads flickering.
“Lucky charm!” She caught the two necklaces as they fell from the sky, turning them over in her hands to read the two halves of a heart together. “Best friends forever… What am I supposed to do with this?”
She glanced around with a pensive frown, singling in on the photo in Backstabber’s necklace and the tears bubbled in the corner of her eyes.
“M’lady?” Chat Noir dodged another pitchfork.
“Go! I’ve got this.” She ordered, but he eyed her skeptically, his ring flashing.
“Are you sure, m’lady?” he asked.
“Positive.”
Chat Noir glanced between them with a conflicted frown before vaulting himself into the rooftops.
Ladybug took a stance in front of Backstabber in the middle of the street. “Just you and me now,” she said with a gentle determination.
“How do you expect to beat me with that?” Backstabber scoffed, cocking a hip to one side.
“Not with this.” Ladybug shook her head. “With words. You’re upset that your friend abandoned you, right?”
Backstabber seemed taken aback. Her jaw clenched as Ladybug held up the necklaces.
“She’s your best friend, and right now you’re hurt and confused, but have you considered that maybe she’s feeling the same way?” Ladybug continued.
“She left me!” A tear rolled down her cheek. “She didn’t even say goodbye!”
“Don’t you think she has a reason? Best friends don’t just abandon each other.”
Backstabber weighed it before shaking her head. “What reason could she possibly have had?”
“There’s a lot you probably don’t know about your friend. Secrets that she wishes she could tell you but can’t…” Ladybug averted her gaze. “I’m sure you’re both hurting, and Hawkmoth took advantage of that, but you’re stronger than he is, Alya.” At the sound of her name, Backstabber flinched, and Ladybug paced over to place her hands on her shoulders. “I know you are.”
Backstabber searched her gaze, lips quivering, shoulders shaking. She hugged her sides as hot tears spilled down her cheeks, sinking to her knees. Ladybug crouched beside her, fastening one of the necklaces around her neck before opening the clasp of Backstabber’s locket and removing the picture inside. Ladybug stared at it with a frown before ripping it down the middle, separating the two smiling girls and freeing the black butterfly from inside.
“No more evildoing for you, little akuma.”
♪♫♫ Miserable at Best ♪♫♪
When the doorbell rang, Marinette stood up from the couch and straightened her blazer. She took a deep breath before striding over to answer it. Miraculous Ladybug set everything back to the way it was, but there were some things that her superpowers couldn’t fix. This time she would have to face them herself.
“Hey…” Alya gave a half-wave when Marinette opened the door.
“Hey,” Marinette replied.
“Sorry about earlier,” Alya said with a wince. “I was upset about you leaving, and I guess Hawkmoth could sense that.” When Marinette remained quiet, she bit her lip. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
Marinette averted her gaze. “I didn’t want anyone to make a fuss because I’d already made up my mind.”
“Why did you leave?”
“Because-” Her words caught themselves on the tip of her tongue.
What was she supposed to say? That it was because her friends abandoned her? That her friends trusted a stranger over her when she’d proved to them time and time again that she was trustworthy and honest? That she didn’t say anything because her friends would have tried to guilt her into staying because she couldn’t provide them a believable answer for why she was leaving? Even now she couldn’t think of a viable way to prove to Alya that Lila was lying, since she was so insistent on Marinette having evidence. Alya wasn’t one to take her word without proof even though she seemed to have no trouble doing that for Lila. Marinette wasn’t sure which was worse: Alya’s lack of trust in her or her overabundance of trust in Lila.
“Because of Lila?” Alya asked, and Marinette fixed her gaze on the door handle. “Why are you so bothered by her? She’s never done anything to you, and all you’ve ever done is accuse her of lying about everything.”
Marinette wanted to tell Alya the truth more than anything, but given her track record, she didn’t think it would do any good. She couldn’t prove that Lila had threatened her, and even mentioning it would seem like another vain attempt to defame her. As much as it pained her, Marinette didn’t have an answer for Alya. If she was so bent on having concrete evidence, then there was no point in trying to come up with one, so she simply shrugged.
“I don’t know what has gotten into you, girl, but it’s not healthy,” Alya said. “If you’d just give Lila a chance, you’d see that-”
“No,” Marinette said firmly, and Alya’s eyebrows raised in surprise. “Sorry, but I won’t play along with her.”
“Play along with- this isn’t a game, Marinette! She’s just a person with an exotic life,” Alya chided, pinching the bridge of her nose. “Honestly, it won’t kill you to try.”
“I can’t be friends with her.” Marinette shook her head.
“Why?” Alya asked. “Give me one good reason why. I’m sure if you tell her about Adrien-”
“It’s not about Adrien.”
“Then what?” Alya held her arms out. “Don’t tell me you’re jealous of her getting attention from everyone.”
Marinette recoiled at that, eyes stinging. The fact that Alya even mentioned that proved that Lila had her hooks in too deep. Alya couldn’t be saved. As much as it pained her, there were some villains out there that even Ladybug couldn’t defeat.
“I’m not jealous of her, but I am a little hurt that my best friend is siding with someone she barely knows over me,” she said with more bite than she intended.
“Can you blame me with how sketchy you’ve been acting? What proof do you have?” Alya shot back, hands balling into fists when Marinette shifted her weight. “Lately, I feel like I don’t know you as well as I thought I did, girl.”
“I’m starting to think the same,” Marinette said.
“Then I guess we shouldn’t consider ourselves bffs if there’s so much we don’t know about each other!” Alya retorted. “Maybe we shouldn’t even be friends at all.”
Marinette suppressed a sigh, heart sinking as she held Alya’s gaze before three of the most painful words passed her lips. “Maybe we shouldn’t.”
Alya took a step back, jaw dropping. Her eyes burned into Marinette’s, fresh tears bubbling in the corners. Marinette wore a steely mask, relaying no emotion despite the hammering in her chest. She bit her lip to hide how it shook.
Alya finally flicked her gaze to her feet, rubbing at her cheek before a tear could escape. “Well, I guess that’s that then,” she said. Alya turned and stormed down the stairs.
Marinette closed the door, lingering with her hand on the handle. Her shoulders shook, and she sank to the floor with a whimper, hot tears spilling down her cheeks. As it turned out, the high road was far lonelier than she’d ever imagined, but there was no going back now. She’d made her choice.

Tumblr Year End Review Game
Rules: post the top 5 works you’re most proud of that you released this year (not necessarily your most popular), the top 4 current WIPs that you’re excited to release in the new year, the 3 biggest improvements in your writing over the past year, 2 resolutions (ways you wish to improve your writing/blog) for the new year, and your number 1 favorite line you’ve written this year!
5 works you’re most proud of that you released this year
Yoongi is a Rock I tend to make paragraphs sound sing-songy when I write normally 😅 as soon as I started writing this story, I noticed how much everything began rhyming so I completely reworked the story to be like a poem and I'm really proud of what I was able to do. It's not easy to make things rhyme and flow on top of making sentences make sense and tell a good story, that's what I am most proud of. 😄😄
Handshakes of a Lifetime Ch5 It was my first time writing an action kind of story, I am very proud of my "fight" scenes lol. And proud of how badass y/n was 💅🏽this chapter really helped me write Run Run Run: Seoul Flow later on.
Bon Voyage: Into the Sea Ch3 I knew I wanted the time skip/jump in that chapter, and really struggled writing it, but I'm really proud of how it ended up, this is also the longest chapter I've written, it's massive, I didn't sleep for two nights editing it D: that was a feat.
Handshakes of a Lifetime Ch7 About halfway through Tae's story, I realized the twist in chapter 7, it just kind of happened, writers speak about "talking" to their characters, well, I definitely had a moment there with HOAL Joon 😅😅😅like, 'go back here' and 'go back there, see right there.' it was very cool writing experience and I guess I'm proud of my brain lmao. 🥲
4 current WIPs that you’re excited to release in the new year
Agust D vs RM Super Hero Christmas Special While writing Friendly Neighborhood RM, Yoongi's power seemed kind of lame ngl. But while writing his story, I realized his power is ridiculously overpowered 🥲🥲. And also since we are talking about it, I'm excited for Seokjin and Jimin's Versions (next stories in line for the Super Bangtan Universe) mainly because they are both so full of crack. Seokjin is really a menace with his mindreading powers and shapeshifter Jimin...shapeshifting penises...need I say more lmao. 😳😳😳
HOAL Ch9 which might be coming out sooner than anticipated u.u everyone's sweet comments is really motivating me 😭😭💕💕💕
BV:ITS Ch4 I'm so excited!!! y/n stuck in the middle of two tsunderes Yoongi and Hobi pls, and then add bratty vampire Jimin to the mix...
Go Home, You're Drunk You groan, annoyed. Where did your friends go? WHERE ARE YOU? Everything is muffled, was that a car passing by? Everything is dark and hazy, are you still near the club? These are the questions you should be asking yourself, there should be alarms going off in your head. You should be screaming, crying for help, but you laugh, and laugh, and laugh. “Oof!” Strong arms lift your boneless body up, into his warmth, against his hard frame. Your world tilts and sways and you bury your face in his chest, trying not to throw up. “Who…are…you…” “Your worst nightmare, sweetheart.” “Really, ‘cause you look like youugh belong ina boyband.” A one-shot that I don't know whether to make dark and funny or both 🙃🙃🙃 u know just dealing with ✨trauma✨ in my own fucked to way 🤠
3 biggest improvements in your writing over the past year
I wrote a request 🙊🙊 (requests still scare me please don’t ask lolol) and actually was able to come up with something cohesive and sexy if I do say so myself.
I NEVER would have been able to write a story like Your Friendly Neighborhood Superhero, RM before. Twists are hard 🤠
HOAL Ch6 that story was soo difficult to write, but getting through it really helped me with tone, since it was set in ancient Greece I did a lot of research on gods and the time period, added mythology as fun easter eggs, it was one of the first times I felt like my writing was improving.
2 resolutions (ways you wish to improve your writing/blog) for the new year
I really want to figure out how to improve my blog and create more reader engagement 🙂 if only I knew how 🙃🙃🙃
Come up with more special writing events like my X-mas stories.
number 1 favorite line you’ve written this year
THIS IS TOO HARD. 😖😖😖 This is one of my favorites for sure: You look straight into his soul, see him for who he is, and he sees in your tearful eyes the words left unspoken between you, “I love you.”

My sincere gratitude, as always, goes out to @hookedmom & @xsajx
I don’t suppose writers should choose their favorite chapters, any more than parents should choose their favorite child. However, we all know we have our favorites at any given time, which are always subject to change. That being said, this chapter is my favorite of the entire story,  so far, and I hope you like it as much as I do!
*********
Killian took Zeke to the boarding kennel after he got home from work on Wednesday, put his bags in the car, and double-checked his boarding pass and all of his documentation, before going to bed early. On Thursday, he made sure to get to the airport in plenty of time to check his luggage and go through customs. His flight took off at 10:10 AM, and with the time difference, landed in Ireland in the wee hours of the morning . He had assured Liam that he could take an Uber to their house, but his stubborn brother insisted on picking him up at the airport.
He only got to peek in on his sleeping nephew, and was anxious to spend time with him the next day. He wondered how the precocious little boy with curly blond hair and sea-blue eyes would react when he saw him, since he had been a baby the last time Killian visited, and unable to remember seeing him in person. He hoped that all their Face-Time calls and Zoom sessions had endeared him to the two-year-old.
They decided to stay home on Friday in order to give Killian a chance to adjust to the new time zone, and he was happy to spend the entire day with Declan. At first, the young boy was a bit shy around his uncle, staying close to his mother as he warmed up little-by-little. As the day went on, the two of them became the best of friends, playing and romping together rambunctiously.
Killian got the honor of putting his nephew to bed that night, which took three stories and a lullabye before the exhausted little boy finally gave in and went to sleep. The next morning, Killian was awakened by the lad hurling himself full-force onto his uncle, squealing, “Unca Ki-wee-un!”
They spent Saturday exploring the attractions in the small town where Liam’s family now lived, then on Sunday, they drove forty minutes to the village where the Jones brothers grew up. As they walked along the streets, Killian and Liam shared their childhood memories with Rose and Declan.
Liam and Rose were unable to take off of work on Monday and Tuesday, much to their dismay, but Killian didn’t mind because he got to take care of his nephew. Declan dragged out every toy he owned to show to his uncle, and Killian read book after book, until the little boy got fidgety and climbed down from his lap. It was hard to say who was more tired when Declan’s nap time came around.
The kennel where Zeke was being boarded posted videos twice a day showing the dogs playing outside. Declan delighted in trying to locate his uncle’s dog and would squeal, “Zeke!” when he found him. Killian was happy to see that his pet seemed to be comfortable in his temporary surroundings. He had worried Zeke would think his owner abandoned him and would be in low spirits, but he was always exploring and playing with the other dogs in the videos.
Tuesday evening at dinner, Killian told Liam and Rose about Emma. As he shared with them the story of how they’d met, all the things they liked doing together, and how she had just revealed her baby was a girl, Rose began to notice something, and mentioned it to Liam as they laid in bed that night.
“I think Killian might be falling in love.”
Liam turned his head on his pillow to fix her with a puzzled look. “What are you talking about? He hasn’t said anything like that to me.”
“Oh, Liam,” Rose patiently explained, “he’s not going to come right out and say it. I’m not even sure he’s aware of it himself.”
Liam rolled over onto his side and raised himself up on his elbow to look at his wife’s face more fully. “Who is this mystery woman he’s in love with so secretly even he doesn’t know it?”
“The girl who’s volunteering at the church with him - Emma.”
“The homeless, pregnant girl? That’s ridiculous, Darling! He can’t be in love with her!”
“Shhh, keep your voice down! Killian is in the next room,” Rose admonished. “And why can’t he be in love with Emma?”
“She’s not right for him! She’s a stray off the street and…”
Rose sat straight up in bed. “Liam Jones! Shame on you!” she whispered fiercely. “How can you judge someone you’ve never even met? It shouldn’t matter what her background is if she makes your brother happy, and haven’t you noticed how happy he is?”
“Well, of course he is! He’s got his own house, a good job, a dog…”
“All of those things contribute to his happiness, but only love can put the kind of look in your eye like the one in Killian’s.”
Liam sighed. “I think you just want him to be in love so badly you’re reading things into what he’s saying, and how he looks. He said she’s a friend and I believe that’s all she is to him.”
Rose laid back down. “Believe what you want, but I stick by my statement that my brother-in-law is falling in love.”
Her husband dropped back down onto his pillow and folded his arms behind his head, wondering what kinds of signs, if any, he had been missing, and knowing that the woman in question wasn’t nearly good enough for his little brother.

The only communication Killian received from Emma during his entire trip were some short answers to his texts. He missed talking to her, but when he suggested giving her a call, she told him to just enjoy his time with his family.
Early Friday morning, he hugged his family goodbye at the airport, holding on a little longer to a tearful Declan, who nearly broke his heart as he kept saying, “Don’ weave, Unca Ki-wee-un! I wuv you!”
His flight took close to ten hours, but the time difference was to his advantage, making it seem like it was only six hours since he left Ireland by the time the plane landed in North Carolina. When he finally got home from the airport, after clearing customs, collecting his luggage, taking the shuttle to his car, and driving a little over an hour to get home, he collapsed on his sofa for a nap.
When he awoke late that afternoon, he picked Zeke up at the kennel just before it closed, and texted his friends to let them know he arrived back home safely.
He also sent Emma a message, inviting her over for the movie night they had planned prior to his leaving. Although he was still very tired, he was hoping to see her because he missed her even more than he expected. When she replied that she had worked some early morning shifts during the week and was just too exhausted, Killian was disappointed, but knew he would see her the next morning, as they were scheduled to help Marco.
He ordered food to be delivered, took a quick shower, and was in bed by eight o’clock.
*********
The two weeks following Ruby’s departure from the shelter were long and miserable for Emma. She asked Granny to rearrange her work schedule so she would be on opposite shifts from Ruby, in order to avoid being around her. She still saw her a few times when she arrived for the next shift, but Emma simply ignored her. Granny knew something was wrong between her two waitresses, but neither would admit anything.
When Emma showed up to work at the church on Saturday, she tried to act as if nothing was wrong, but the ever perceptive Mary Margaret could tell right away something was bothering her. All Emma would say was that she and Ruby had a misunderstanding, and that she was feeling really tired due to working some different shifts at the diner. She didn’t admit the fact that much of her exhaustion was due to the amount of time she laid awake at night worrying and crying about her and her baby’s future.
She had her small space at the shelter all to herself for over a week, until the next Tuesday when Belle introduced her to Kathryn, who was taking over Ruby’s vacated spot. As soon as the manager left, Emma’s new roommate turned haughty eyes toward her, purposely running them slowly up and down Emma’s body, stopping at her slightly distended belly.
“When are you due?” she asked rudely.
Emma was taken aback at her forwardness, but managed to utter, “In July.”
“Well, at least I won’t be here long enough to have to worry about you going into labor. I’m only in this hellhole until I can figure out a way to get back home to California where I belong. Then my soon-to-be ex-husband will be paying me a tidy sum, so I never have to worry about money or being reduced to the humiliation of living in a place like this again.”
Emma didn’t respond, unsure of why the woman was telling her all of this. She was also angry about how she was putting the shelter down, when it was a lifeline for Emma and many of the other residents.
Kathryn sneered at her and continued, “I’m assuming the baby is a bastard.”
If Emma hadn’t already been feeling so defeated and sad, she would have defended herself, but she just didn’t have the energy. Instead, she simply said, “There’s, um, there’s no father in the picture.”
“I figured as much,” Kathryn sniffed. Then she stored her things in her trunk, making a show of locking it and putting the key in her pocket, deliberately staring at Emma as she did so, as if to warn her not to try stealing from her.
Several times over the next few days, Emma overheard the bitter woman talking on her phone. She made no attempt to speak softly as she begged the person on the other end to get her out of the shelter, because she was having to endure uncomfortable conditions, terrible food, and sharing a bathroom with a ‘whole hoard of homeless vagrants’. Despite the fact Emma was sitting just a few feet away from her, Kathryn didn’t hesitate to describe her roommate using vulgar terms that reminded Emma of the names Neal had called her.
She hoped Kathryn’s statement about not being around long held true. She thought about telling Belle how the new resident was behaving, in hopes the manager would move her to a different cubicle, but decided she would just endure it so someone else wouldn’t be subjected to Kathryn’s ridicule.
When she reported to work on Saturday morning, her sadness was further enhanced knowing that her friends, including Killian, whom she’d missed so much while he was away, would be going to Marco’s without her. She hadn’t called her elderly friend since the day of the gender reveal, because she knew hearing his kind voice would cause her to lose the fragile hold she had on her emotions.
She moved through the morning in the same fog of despair she’d been living in for two weeks, without any hope of it getting better.
*********
Killian strolled into the community room of the church Saturday morning and found Mary Margaret finalizing the assignments for the day.
“Oh, Killian! Welcome back! How was your trip?”
“It was great, thanks! Declan is amazing and adorable, Rose is as lovely and sweet as ever, and my brother is still an annoying git at times! It was wonderful seeing all of them and the good old Emerald Isle again.”
“Well, I’m glad you had such a good time and got back safely. David is checking the inventory of cleaning supplies in the shed, if you’re looking for him.”
“Uh, okay. Are we going to be helping Marco today?”
“Yes, and Anna is going to be joining us, since Emma won’t be here.”
Killian’s eyebrows crept up his forehead. “She isn’t? Why not?”
“She’s working the breakfast shift at Granny’s this morning.”
“That’s surprising. I thought Ruby hated working the early shift.”
“She and Ruby had some kind of falling out, and from what I can gather, Granny is scheduling them on different shifts now. I don’t know what the argument was about, but it must have been a doozy.”
“Huh. She hasn’t mentioned anything about that to me.”
Mary Margaret set the iPad down on the table to turn her attention to Killian. “You’ve talked to Emma, then?”
“Just through texting. I tried to call, but she didn’t answer.”
“I’ve tried to call her, too, because all I’ve gotten from her since last Saturday are short answers to my texts. I’m beginning to worry about her, Killian. It’s like she’s pulling away from us again, and I don’t know why.”
Killian sucked his bottom lip between his teeth and chewed on it thoughtfully. “Would you mind if I go to the diner to check on her instead of helping this morning?”
“Of course not! Hopefully, she’s just been really busy, but I have an uneasy feeling that something happened. I’m sure the thing with Ruby is upsetting her, but it seems like it’s more than that. She was so happy when she announced that the baby is a girl, and now she’s pretty much cut off communication with us.”
“Aye, I’m a bit concerned, as well. She was looking forward to finishing the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy when I returned from my trip, but she didn’t want to come over last night.”
The door opened and David came in. “Hey, Jones! Long time no see, man! Did you have a good trip?”
“I had a fantastic time, Mate! I’m glad to be back, though. Do you need help with the inventory?”
“No, it’s all finished and I’ve made a list of the supplies we need to replenish, but you can help me load the truck.”
“Sure, not a problem.” Killian gave Mary Margaret a tight smile before following his friend out the door.
*********
Before he left for the diner, Killian decided to call Marco to find out if he had heard from Emma lately. He thought perhaps Emma had confided what was upsetting her to the elderly man, since she had such a close bond with him.
When the call connected, the two men spent some time catching up with one another, and then Killian got around to the real reason for his call.
“When was the last time you talked to Emma, Marco?”
“I haven’t heard from her since that day after church, when we found out her precious baby is a girl. Why do you ask?”
“Mary Margaret and I are a little concerned, because Emma hasn’t been answering our calls.”
“Have you not spoken with her at all?”
“We’ve texted back and forth, but I haven’t had a chance to see her since I got back,” Killian said, not wanting to worry the old man. He knew Emma usually called Marco at least once a week, and the fact that she hadn’t, made him even more concerned.
Despite Killian’s efforts, Marco sensed something was bothering the younger man. “What is it, my boy? Is Emma not feeling well?”
“She, uh, she told me that she’s been really tired lately, and that’s to be expected in her condition, of course, but I would just like to see her in person to make sure she’s okay. She’s working the early shift at the diner, and I’m going to go over there to try to get her to talk to me, so I won’t be coming to help today.”
“Don’t worry about that! Please go, and let me know what you find out.”
“Thank you, Marco. Hopefully we’re all worrying for nothing, but I need to know for sure.”
*********
Killian had become a regular at Granny’s the past few months, and the proprietor knew he and Emma were close, so as soon as he stepped foot in the door, the old lady bustled around the counter and pulled him aside.
“It’s about time ya showed up! Where have ya been? That girl is a mess!”
“I was visiting my family in Ireland,” he hurriedly explained, glancing around the restaurant hoping to catch sight of the blonde waitress. “What do you mean she’s a mess?”
Just then, Emma emerged from the kitchen carrying a tray of drinks, and he could see for himself what Granny meant. Her face was drawn and pale, her usually well-kept hair was pulled back in a messy ponytail, and she looked like each step she took required every ounce of energy in her body. She didn’t look their direction as she delivered the drinks, then disappeared back into the kitchen.
Killian asked, “Granny, do you know what happened between Emma and Ruby?”
“I don’t know the specifics, but the two of them won’t have anything to do with each other these days. Emma asked to be given shifts when Ruby isn’t working, and even when they do see each other comin’ and goin’, not a word passes between ‘em.”
Killian pressed his lips together firmly. Maybe the misunderstanding between the two of them was more serious than what Emma had let on, which would explain why she wasn’t in the mood to speak to anyone.
“Would it be okay if I talked to her for a little while?” he asked.
“I wish you would. Somebody needs to pull her outta this funk she’s got herself in! I’ll tell her she’s due for a break and send her out your way.”
“Thanks, Granny.”
He watched her hurry through the doorway, and soon Emma shuffled out with her coat on and her head down. He realized she was headed toward the door, so he moved in that direction. When he was close enough, he tried to get her attention.
“Swan?”
Emma came to a halt at the sound of his voice, and looked up at him. She forced a smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes, and Killian’s heart broke at the sadness he saw in them.
“Oh, hey Killian. How was your trip?” she asked softly.
“It was good, thanks.”
“I bet Zeke is glad to have you home,” she said.
“Aye, he is. I missed him, and...I missed you, too. How are you doing?”
He could see her chin begin to tremble, but she tried to smile through it as she mumbled, “I’m fine.”
Killian realized she wasn’t going to make this easy. “Clearly that isn’t true, Swan. Do you want to talk about whatever it is that’s going on?”
Her gaze shifted away from his face. “Nothing is going on,” she lied, unable to look him in the eye.
He reached out to take her hand, and the second he made contact, she started to crumble. He could see silent tears begin to trickle down her cheeks, before she ducked her head to hide them.
“Alright, come on,” he said, gently pulling her along behind him. He pushed through the door and led her to one of the picnic tables which sat outside the diner. “Sit down.”
She plopped down on the bench and he straddled it so he could face her. “What happened between you and Ruby, Love?”
She shook her head slightly and he could tell she was fighting to get her emotions under control.
He waited a few more seconds, then tried again, “Please tell me so I can help you, Sweetness.”
It was his use of that endearment which broke the dam, and he watched as she cried, her tears dripping steadily onto her waitress uniform. Killian struggled to wait patiently, because all he wanted to do in that moment was pull her into his arms to comfort her.
At last, she took a shuddering breath. “Ru-Ruby moved out...of the shelter,” she said, her voice thick with tears. “She....she’s living with P-Peter and...his sister.”
Killian’s eyes widened at first, then he closed them, dropping his head forward as he fully understood what this meant to Emma. She had been counting on moving into an apartment with Ruby so she wouldn’t have to be in the shelter once the baby was born.
Shaking his head from side to side, he looked back up and said, “I’m so sorry, Emma. I’m sure that came as a shock to you.”
She nodded and sniffed. “She...she didn’t...I thought we had an agreement, but she...she changed her mind.”
“Did she say why?”
Emma plucked at the button on her coat. “Polly offered her cheap rent, and she doesn’t want to put up with a crying baby.” Her voice was flat and emotionless now.
“She told you that?”
Once again, she nodded, and Killian’s jaw ticked in anger. How could Ruby do that to her? She knew how hard it was for Emma to trust anyone, and now she had betrayed that trust.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
She brushed away some of the tears on her cheeks. “You were with your family. I...I didn’t want to bother you.”
“You’re never a bother to me, Love. I hope you know that. But if you didn’t want to tell me, you could have told Mary Margaret.”
“You guys are gonna get sick of hearing about my problems all the time.”
“Hey,” he used his fingers to tilt her chin up, coaxing her to look at him, “that will never happen. We’re your friends, Emma. We are here for you whenever you need us. Don’t ever hesitate to tell us when something is wrong.”
Her eyes filled with tears again and she tried unsuccessfully to blink them away. Killian tilted his head to look at her, and came to a realization.
“There’s more to this than just Ruby, isn’t there?”
A sob caught in her throat, and this time he couldn't keep himself from pulling her into a hug. At first, she just let him hold her, but after several long moments, she wrapped her arms around him and clung to him tightly.
When she finally started speaking, he had to strain to hear her, since her head was buried in his shoulder. “This woman, Kathryn, moved into Ruby’s spot in the shelter, and she...she’s horrible! She’s always complaining...about the beds and the food and....and everything. She called my baby a...a b-bastard, and she called me a...a whoring s-slut.”
Killian pulled back from her sharply. “You’ve got to be kidding me!” he said through gritted teeth. Upon seeing her shake her head, he stood and grabbed her hand to pull her up beside him. “Come on.”
“Wh-where are we going?”
“To get you out of that shelter!” he told her furiously. “I won’t let you be subjected to that bitch for one more minute!”
She pulled back on his hand, halting their progress to his car. “Killian, I don’t have anywhere else to go!”
“You’re coming to live at my house,” he said matter-of-factly.
“I can’t do that!”
“Why can’t you? I have an extra room and bed, you’re comfortable there, and Zeke and I love having you with us.”
“What will people think?”
“I don’t give a bloody damn what people think! All I care about is what’s best for you and the baby, and living in the shelter with that cruel woman isn’t it!”
Emma bit her lip, clearly torn about what she should do, but Killian didn’t want to give her a chance to consider any other option. Turning toward her and taking both of her hands in his, he softened his tone. “Sweetheart, you don’t deserve to be treated this way, by Ruby, Kathryn, or anyone! Please let me do this for you. I can’t stand the thought of you being miserable, and I’m not going to rest easy until you’re in a better place, both mentally and physically.”
“But what if...what if later, you decide…”
“I’m not changing my mind, Emma. I promise,” he squeezed her hands to reiterate his point, “I promise that you and the baby have a home with me for as long as you need one.”
“Are you really sure?” she whispered, searching his eyes for any sign of doubt.
“Yes,” he answered firmly. “One hundred percent! Now, what do we need to do to get you out of there?”
“I...I still have almost two hours left to work on my shift.”
“Okay, well, that will give me time to go to Marco’s and help there for awhile, and to fill everyone in on what’s going on, if that’s alright with you.”
“Yeah, it is,” she conceded. “Mary Margaret has been asking me if I’m okay, but I just didn’t know how to tell her what’s been going on.”
“Aye, she’s concerned about you, and so is Marco.” He watched the corners of her mouth turn up in the tiniest of smiles. “What else will you need to do after you’re done working?”
“I’ll need to get my stuff from the shelter.”
“Will she be there?”
“Probably. She usually is.”
“Then I think you should let Belle gather your things for you and I’ll pick them up.”
“I don’t want her to have to go to any trouble…”
“I’m sure she won’t mind after she finds out what’s been going on. I’m assuming she doesn’t know how that woman has been treating you?”
Emma worried her lip between her teeth again. “I didn’t tell her because I didn’t want someone else to have to put up with Kathryn. It would be nice not to have to see her again, if I can help it.”
“Then it’s settled. I’ll give Belle a call, then go to Marco’s. I’ll stop at the shelter after we get back, and swing by to pick you up when your shift is over. Then we’re going home.”
For the first time in two weeks, a small but genuine smile settled on Emma’s face, as she began to feel a glimmer of hope again.
*********
As soon as Emma went back into the restaurant, Killian got in his car and called Belle. She was extremely upset to hear what Emma had been enduring for the last four days.
“I had no idea that was going on, Killian,” she apologized. “If I’d have known, I would have moved Kathryn to a different spot. She’s only here on a short-term basis until one of her family members sends her an airline ticket. I knew Emma was really down since Ruby left, and I thought having someone share her space would keep her from being lonely. I’m so sorry!”
Killian sighed. He knew it wasn’t Belle’s fault, but the verbal abuse Emma had suffered, immediately after being betrayed by her so-called best friend, had taken a toll on her. He was immensely relieved that she’d agreed to live at his house, even if it was only for a few days, which he hoped wouldn’t be the case.
“I’ll be happy to collect her things and have them ready for you to pick up,” Belle continued. “I have a master key to all the storage trunks, so it won’t be a problem.”
“Thanks, Belle, I appreciate it. I should be over there to get everything in about an hour-and-a-half.”
After disconnecting the call, he drove to Marco’s and told everyone what he had found out. David folded his arms tightly across his chest with a deep frown on his face, which Killian knew was how he reacted when he was irritated and upset. Mary Margaret wrung her hands and blamed herself for not being more diligent about trying to get Emma to talk to her.
It was Marco’s reaction that took Killian by surprise, however. He had never seen the old man get angry before, but now his face turned a deep shade of red. “Imagine someone treating our Emma that way!” he spouted, pounding his cane on the floor for emphasis. “And I’m very disappointed in Ruby, too! Emma had spoken to me many times about her plans to share an apartment with her. Now what is the poor girl going to do?”
“She’s moving into my house,” Killian said firmly. Four sets of eyes turned in his direction at the same time. “I have a spare room which is on the opposite side of the house from my bedroom. She’ll have plenty of privacy, and it’s big enough to put a crib in there for the baby.”
“You’re planning on her staying there even after the baby is born?” David asked.
“If that’s what Emma wants to do.”
“That’s very sweet of you, Killian,” Anna commented.
“I only wish I would have had time to paint the room before she moves in, but I’m picking up her belongings at the shelter right after I leave here. When her shift is over, she’ll come back to the house with me.”
“I can help you paint,” David offered. “Just let me know when.”
“Thanks, Mate. It won’t be this weekend, because I’ve got to get the supplies and I’m still a bit jet-lagged. Perhaps next Saturday after we get things done at the church?”
Mary Margaret spoke up. “Next week is going to be pretty busy because we’re restocking the food for the local soup kitchen. We don’t have much to do the following week, since we’re just going to decorate for Palm Sunday and that won’t take very long.”
“Sounds like a plan then, Jones,” David said.
“I’m so glad our girl will have a quiet, comfortable place to live during the last part of her pregnancy,” Marco remarked, the familiar smile returning to his face.
*********
Killian arrived back at the diner a few minutes before Emma’s shift was scheduled to end. Once again, the sharp-eyed proprietor spotted him as soon as he came through the door and beckoned him over to the counter.
“I don’t know what you said to that girl, but it’s like the thousand pound weight she’s been carrying around for two weeks has been lifted off of her shoulders.”
Killian grinned at her. “That’s good to hear. She, uh, she’s moving out of the shelter.”
Granny eyed him over the top of her glasses. “I’m assumin’ she’s not movin’ in with Ruby, so where’s she goin’?”
He scratched behind his ear as Granny fixed him with her stare. “She’s going to be living at my house.”
“Is she, now? Well, I’ll be! I didn’t realize the two of you…”
“No, Granny, we’re not going to be living together - not like that. I just offered her my spare room. She’s stayed in it a couple of times before and she’s comfortable there. She just really needed to get out of that shelter.”
“I agree with ya there. I thought she and Ruby were lookin’ to get a place together, but that musta fallen through somehow.”
“Aye, Ruby moved in with her boyfriend’s sister.”
“And left Emma in the lurch?” Granny asked. At Killian’s affirming nod, she added, “I think it might be time to break out my trusty crossbow!”
Killian barked out a laugh just as Emma exited the kitchen, sliding her arms into her coat. “What’s so funny?” she asked, coming to stand beside him in front of the counter.
“I was tellin’ your friend here that Ruby might have to be on the business end of my crossbow for leavin’ you out in the cold!”
Emma’s face reddened, and Killian hurried to say, “I hope you don’t mind that I told Granny, Swan. She’s been worried about you and…”
“It’s okay,” she assured him. Turning to her employer, she said, “I’m sorry, Granny. I should’ve told you what was going on.”
The older woman reached over and patted Emma’s hand where it laid on the counter. “You don’t have to carry your burdens all by yourself, girl. You got people who care about ya now.”
Emma swallowed hard and nodded. “I...I guess I forgot that, since I’ve always had to fend for myself. I’m just not used to having people who are willing to help me .”
“Well, you better get used to it! Now, you’ve worked your tail off for the last two weeks, mostly on the breakfast shift, so I’m tellin’ Ruby she’s workin’ that shift on both Saturdays and Sundays, all next month. That ought to teach her a lesson! If she gives me any guff about it, I’ll tell her to take a hike!”
Emma couldn’t keep herself from letting a satisfied smile cross her face. “Thanks, Granny. I’ll see you Monday!”
Killian threw a grin of appreciation at the proprietor, before putting his hand on the small of Emma’s back to guide her out of the diner.
*********
As soon as Emma walked into Killian’s kitchen, Zeke was dancing around her legs, wiggling with excitement and emitting happy little whines. Emma giggled at his antics, then set the bag of books she was carrying down on a chair, so she could try to pet him. When he finally started to settle down, she sank to the floor and buried her face in his furry neck while rubbing her hands up and down his sides.
“I’ve missed you, Zekey boy.”
“I think he was telling you in his own way how much he’s missed you too, Love,” Killian said, moving past them with her duffle bag slung over his shoulder. He carried it through the living room and back the hall to what he’d already begun to think of as Emma’s room.
When he came back out, he found her standing a bit awkwardly in the middle of the living room.
“I haven’t gotten a chance to tell you that Marco invited us over for dinner tonight. He’s been missing you, too,” he told her.
“He’s another person I should have called. I’m so sorry I made everyone worry.”
“All is forgiven, as long as you’re okay, Emma.” She gave him a weak smile. “Are you tired? Would you like to take a nap? Or perhaps a shower?”
“Both sound really good. I think I’ll go for the shower first, if you don’t mind.”
Killian stepped in front of her and put his hands on her shoulders. “This is your home now, Emma. You don’t have to ask my permission for anything around here. What’s mine is yours, got it?”
“Why are you so good to me, Killian?”
“Because you deserve it, Sweetness. Don’t ever doubt that.”

Just Best Friends - 4/? | westallen fanfiction
A/N: These chaps keep getting longer and longer! (even though technically this one’s a little shorter than ch3, lol. still! It’s exciting. And next chap will be even longer.) Enjoy! This one’s a bit angsty!
...
Chapter 4 -
Iris clutched at her steering wheel, flexing her fingers after she’d parked in front of Eddie’s place. She tried to get her breathing under control. Eddie had told her to leave – to get out – because he couldn’t stand the sight of her anymore. Harsh, to be sure, but maybe valid given what she’d just done. The bowling alley incident really couldn’t have been that bad, but what she’d just done definitely was. Could she really pretend it hadn’t happened?
She looked across the courtyard at the looming, brown building, and thought about Eddie. Sweet, handsome, brave Eddie. He didn’t deserve this. He didn’t deserve to feel so insecure, and he definitely deserve to be cheated on. She swallowed hard and felt her hands start to slide on the steering wheel. She was sweating.
She quick dried her hands off on her jacket and pulled her keys out of the ignition. Tucking them into her purse, she got out of the car, locked it, and shut the door. Then, gathering all the courage she could muster, she headed toward the building.
There was no way she could go back to her dad’s, not with Barry there, and staying in a hotel…she wasn’t sure she had enough money set aside for that. Hotels in Central City were expensive, even for just one night. Part of her wished she’d brought back Barry’s shirt to sleep in, since she’d obviously be sleeping on the couch tonight, and that would’ve been more comfortable. But she knew that would be suspect when Eddie inevitably saw it the morning, so really this was the best call.
She trudged onward and easily got inside the outside door of the building. Security wasn’t the greatest there, and tonight it worked in her favor. Licking her lips, she turned the knob and pushed open the door to Eddie’s apartment on the second floor. Belatedly she remembered that she’d left her key inside and so had no way to lock it from the outside. Again, it had worked in her favor. This was a safe neighborhood, generally speaking, so she didn’t have to worry about someone breaking in.
Also, she’d been in an emotional state when she left. Much different than how she was now. Now she was riddled with guilt and hoping she didn’t run into Eddie until she had figured out a way to mask that and respond appropriately to a fight with her boyfriend, not having been caught cheating. Because she hadn’t been caught. Thank God. She could only imagine if her dad had walked in while she’d been topless, and Barry too, while they were making out. He’d never taken to Eddie really, but even he could recognize when something was wrong.
He’d be disappointed in her, and that made her feel even worse.
The apartment was quiet when she walked in, and she noticed the bedroom door was still closed. That meant one thing. Eddie had likely passed out on the bed and wouldn’t be waking up till morning. He was dead to the world.
She snatched her key up from where she’d left it and put it back in her purse. Then she quietly walked across the room and slid out of her jacket and shoes, leaving them and the purse on the arm of the couch. Then she sighed, leaned back and laid down, tucking her feet into the cushions and grateful for the knitted blanket Eddie’s grandma had made him that he’d left planted and mostly unused on the couch. It would keep her somewhat warm through the night.
At six a.m., she woke up. The apartment was still deathly quiet, but she thought she could hear a soft snoring from the bedroom. As daring as she’d ever been, she tiptoed over to the bedroom door and opened it. It didn’t creak – thank God. And just like she’d suspected, Eddie was facedown on his pillow, his feet hanging off the end of the bed, still in his police uniform, sans jacket. That was tossed haphazardly on the floor.
Not wanting to wake him, she continued to tiptoe to her side of the closet and picked out her outfit for the day. Then she walked back out of the bedroom, closed the door as slowly and quietly as she could manage and headed for the bathroom to take a shower.
She didn’t know if Eddie was awake or not, if the sound of the water running had woken him, but the bedroom door was still closed when she exited the bathroom. Grateful for the makeup bag she had in her purse, she quickly applied her make-up, minus the lipstick, and then poured herself some cereal while she waited. When she was finished eating, she brushed her teeth and then made the finishing touches to her appearance. Eddie still hadn’t come out.
As a quasi-peace offering, she made the hangover concoction she’d learned about in college. It tasted nasty as hell, but it worked wonders the night after a drunken binge. And that was definitely what had happened with Eddie, she decided.
She was still trying to figure out how to respond to whatever he had to say this morning when the bedroom door swung open, creaking actually, which surprised her, and there stood Eddie. A couple of his buttons were undone, and his hair was going in all different directions. Normally that look turned her on or made her soft, one of the two, but right now she was just tense. He was so angry last night. She didn’t know what to expect.
“Good morning,” she said, doing the best she could not to have a clipped tone.
He shuffled over to her, and she slid the drink slowly over to him. He took one look and wrinkled his nose but seemed to understand that he’d need it if he was going to be able to function at work today. He took a sip and then paused, inevitably deciding he needed to take it in stages.
“You look nice,” he said, which got a long, suspicious pause from her.
“Thank you,” she said finally.
“How come you didn’t come to bed last night?”
That really made her pause. Her mouth fell open, but somehow she regained her composure.
“You…you don’t remember?”
His brows furrowed.
“No.”
A panic crossed his face, and she knew it definitely made him nervous that he couldn’t remember. He really wasn’t prone to getting drunk, or he’d have recognized the signs.
“We had a fight, Eddie,” she said gently. “You…you kicked me out.”
“I-” His eyes bulged. “Wait…then how are you here? Did you…not listen?”
He was genuinely confused, but the words made her bristle.
“No, I did. I went to my dad’s. But uh…I figured you wouldn’t like me spending the night there, given who else lives there and what we’d been fighting about.”
It took him a minute, but then it dawned on him.
“We fought about Barry.”
She nodded, not looking at him.
“Did anything else happen?”
“I made you dinner… Lasagna.”
“Oh! Lasagna!” He perked up. “Did I like it?” He asked hesitantly.
She shook her head.
His brows furrowed in confusion again.
“It was cold by the time you got home,” she said on a sigh. “The candles were almost out…and you didn’t notice my sexy dress I bought on the way home…and the heels.”
As if he realized the massive failure he’d become the night before, he came around the counter and took her hands in his own.
“Iris, I am so sorry. I had no right to act that way, and I shouldn’t have gone out and gotten drunk. That’s so…so unlike me.”
She nodded. “It is.”
“Please forgive me.”
Flashes of Barry devouring her skin raced before her eyes. She looked up at Eddie, looking so sincere, so apologetic.
“Of course I forgive you.”
She cupped one cheek with her hand, brushing her thumb along the side of his face before dropping it again.
“But maybe we can talk more about…the reason for the fight later? I do want to work through it. When you’re sober though, and not hung over.”
He nodded.
“Yeah. Yeah, of course.”
She reached up and placed a kiss where her hand had been before moving past him and grabbing her purse before heading to the door. She stopped when her hand was on the handle and turned to look at him.
“I love you, Eddie.”
He attempted a smile.
“I love you, too.”
Her smile was tremulous as she turned back around, opened the door and headed out.
Now alone, Eddie ran his hands through his hair before hiding his face behind both palms.
“I’m such an ass,” was muffled.
Then he downed the rest of the drink and got ready for work. He’d be a little late probably, but it’d be worth it if he was put together. Thanks to Iris.
In his defense, he hadn’t gotten himself off to images of Iris for the past several weeks – since he’d been dating Linda. But, also in his defense, he hadn’t had material like he now had with which to get off to. Not that he needed erotic material to get off to Iris. He’d been getting off to her since his teen years, ever since puberty hit. And that was just by being herself, his gorgeous best friend.
But now…well, he’d seen her practically naked. He’d inhaled her breasts and devoured her mouth. He’d groped her body and had her flush against his. Was it really so wrong that he’d caved and worked himself into an aroused frenzy in his bed, cumming to her whispered name as his brow sweat and his body shivered?
After all, he and Linda were on a break.
Damn.
He zoomed to the bathroom immediately after and took a cold shower. Then he got ready for the day. His biggest priority was getting out of the house before Joe sat him down to question him over breakfast. He knew it was coming, and he hadn’t figured out yet how to explain any more penetrating questions. Especially since he remembered belatedly what the state of the kitchen had been just before he and Iris…
Well, just before they…
His face got hot, and he hastily dressed. He couldn’t bring himself to look in the mirror until he absolutely had to for parting his hair. He had to make sure his hair was just right. What if Iris stopped by the station to see her dad on her lunch break?
What if she came to see Eddie?
He swallowed and looked away, heading back to his room to get his briefcase.
Iris was going to break up with Eddie, right? She had to. He was going to break up with Linda. After last night, how couldn’t he? He’d agreed to the no-sex-with-Iris clause when Linda had put them on a break. He didn’t want that holding them back anymore.
I mean, if Iris wanted to take things slow after how fast things had escalated last night, he would respect that.
But if she didn’t… He smirked slyly.
And besides, as soon as Eddie knew Iris had cheated on him, there was no way he’d want to stay dating her. He wouldn’t be able to trust her, even if she swore she’d never do it again. Especially since he’d been suspicious right from the start.
Barry worried suddenly if he might get punched as a result.
It would be worth it if it meant he’d end up dating Iris. There was no way she could deny the spark between them any longer anyway. And Barry wasn’t going to just settle for fleeting ‘moments’ where he wondered if she felt the same now. Not after last night. Last night had been insane, in the best way.
The only thing standing between them now was Eddie and Linda. He’d clear up his end of things today, as soon as possible, maybe on his lunch break, maybe sooner. He’d just have to trust that Iris would clear up her end too.
He grabbed a bagel from the kitchen and sped out of the house before Joe could do anything but feel the wind whipping around him as he stood on his way down the staircase. Barry couldn’t be caught by him. He wasn’t ready. He’d think of something later. And hey, if Iris broke up with Eddie today – or vice versa – Barry could just explain away that they’d had another moment and had decided to be together now – him and Iris. Then he wouldn’t have to get into details. It was the perfect disguise.
Seconds later, he stepped out of the elevator at CCPD. Smiling like the fool he was, he started making his way towards the stairs and his lab, hoping he’d be able to focus on something other than his soon to be cleared up relationship drama while he worked.
It was all according to plan until none other but Eddie intercepted him halfway to the stairs. Barry came to a halt and frowned immediately.
“Eddie.”
He forced his face to clear.
“Is something, um… What’s up?” He crossed his arms.
“I just wanted to thank you.”
Barry was taken aback. His eyebrows rose.
Thank him? For what? Making Iris see the light perhaps? This was so far from a punch he could hardly believe it.
“Uh…for what?”
“For taking Iris in last night, even if it was just for a few hours.” He paused. “I’m sure she told you about our fight.”
“Mm. Mhmm.”
Barry nodded, avoiding his gaze.
“I wasn’t myself last night, and I’m ashamed. I’ve already told her as much, and she’s graciously forgiven me. It’ll probably take some time to get back to where we were, but I guess…I shouldn’t have doubted where her loyalties lay, no matter where my head was at.” He gripped Barry’s shoulder, and Barry looked down at it. “I know I can always depend on you when it comes to Iris.”
“Of course,” Barry heard himself say, then forced some easiness into his voice. “I mean, of course you can! She’s Iris. We’re just best friends, Eddie.”
Eddie nodded.
“I know that now. I hope there are no…bad feelings between us?”
“What?” His voice went high-pitched. “No, no, of course not. We’re good. Just…no kicking Iris out again, yeah?”
Eddie chuckled. “Don’t worry. I won’t be doing that ever again.”
“Great,” Barry said through his teeth. “Well, I should…” He gestured to the stairs.
“Right. Right, of course. Go ahead. I’ll see you later.”
“Right. See you later.”
Barry nearly tripped over his own feet making the first step towards the stairs. Eddie waved awkwardly, and Barry finally turned around and walked to the stairs. His heart was pounding the whole time, and not like it had been last night. This was not at all going according to plan, or how he thought it would go.
Iris hadn’t told Eddie what had happened between them. He knew it wasn’t his place to tell, that Iris would be furious if he did, and honestly, he didn’t want to have that conversation. Still, this complicated things.
Maybe Iris would tell him later, on her lunch break. That would work out. They would both break up with their respective partners at the same time. Then by the end of the day, they would talk about where they stood and hopefully schedule a first date!
That was definitely how it would go.
He hoped.
The morning had been awkward, to say the least. Linda hadn’t approached her at all. Not that Iris expected her to. Their last conversation hadn’t exactly been pleasant, and they did work on opposite ends of the main room at CCPN. Still, given what Barry had said, that they’d been on a break, she wondered if Linda wasn’t a fan of her at all now. Not that they’d really been friends friends before. They’d just known each other through Barry. Linda had been his girlfriend, and now she wasn’t. Not really at least. They were on a break.
Iris wondered if that was her fault. She had, after all, instigated all the affectionate touching with Barry at the bowling alley. He’d eagerly participated, and that was probably what drove Linda to instigate a break, but she couldn’t help feeling guilty.
And then of course there was last night…
She nibbled on her bottom lip, as she stared at the blank page before her. Mason had been giving her looks every so often, indicating that he too had seen the blank page. She tried to ignore them, tried to stop looking across the room to see if Linda was looking at her too. She never was. Linda remained diligently with her eyes on her own computer, and occasionally she appeared to be engaging in small talk with her co-workers around her.
It was as if she was completely oblivious to Iris’ existence. She didn’t know if she was relieved or worried by that possible fact.
“Something on your mind?” Mason asked, one paragraph and three hours later.
Iris closed the document on her computer and gave him a serene smile, while gathering up her purse.
“Nope. Just glad it’s lunchtime.”
She stood to her feet.
“Because you’ve done so much work today,” he said dryly.
She continued to smile, pretending to be unaffected by his remark. For the most part, she was.
“I’ll be back in an hour.”
He might’ve said something else after that, but Iris tuned it out as she strutted toward the exit, not even glancing back to see if Linda had caught her leaving. Maybe she just had to work on putting whatever association she had with her behind her. What really mattered was making things right with Eddie and making sure Barry never said a peep about last night.
She thought about what she was willing to risk to make both those things happen and started to worry. Still, she knew Eddie and her relationship with him needed to take priority if things were going to go smoothly going forward. If that meant less time with Barry, so be it.
Her heart ached remembering the time last fall when Barry had put distance between them and how relieved she’d been when they made up. She’d lost Barry for nine months in a coma. Was she really willing to put their friendship on hold indefinitely in order to keep Eddie?
Her heart pounded inside her chest and sweat formed on her forehead. She wiped it away hastily and walked out the door, hurrying as fast as she could to CCPD. The weather was nice, but she could hardly enjoy it. Everything was uncertain right now.
.
Stepping outside the elevator, Iris made her way to the desks just inside the police station. She smiled and waved pleasantly to her dad, deliberately avoiding eye contact with Barry who stood right beside him. She hoped he wouldn’t come over to her and ask to talk. She was here for one person, and that person was who she hoped would still be her boyfriend by the end of the day. Barry didn’t intercept her on the way to Eddie’s desk and neither did her dad. She was grateful.
“Hey,” she said warmly, hoping to get her boyfriend’s attention.
He was on the phone and didn’t look in her direction. He held up a finger for her to wait, and as jittery as she was, she found it in her to do so. As soon as he hung up, he turned to look at her and smiled.
“Iris, hey.”
He stood up and surprised her with a kiss on the lips.
“Oh, hey,” she said. “Good to see you too.”
He continued to smile.
“I hope you’re here to have lunch with me,” he said, tugging at her dress to urge her closer.
Reluctantly, she went.
What had gotten into him? She wondered. Did he think that just because they’d exchanged I love you’s on her way out the door that morning that everything was okay? Because for her it wasn’t. It definitely wasn’t.
“I am,” she allowed, then lowered her voice. “But I’d also like to talk about last night. You know, like I said this morning?”
“Right now?” he asked, pulling her onto his lap. She braced her hand on his shoulder. “I was hoping we could wait till later.” He pressed a kiss to her shoulder and then inched his thumb just under the hem of her skirt. “Much later.”
She huffed and pushed herself off his lap. Reluctantly, he let her go.
“Not much later?” he asked, with puppy dog eyes that were not working on her, not at all.
“No.” She propped one hand on her hip. “We had a fight, Eddie. And drunk or not, we need to talk about it. Or there’s no going forward for us.”
He sobered up immediately, then got to his feet and set his hands on her shoulders.
“I want a future for us, Iris. I do. More than anything I’ve wanted maybe in my life.”
“Okay. Then can we talk about it?” She tilted her head. “Please?”
He released her, then sat on his desk.
“Okay. But first there’s something you should know.”
She folded her arms.
“What’s that?”
“I talked to Barry.”
She went cold.
“What?”
“Yeah, I thanked him for what he did for you last night.”
Her heart started to race.
“What did he do for me?” she asked, desperately hoping Barry hadn’t confessed what she was worried he might. Certainly Eddie would be acting much differently if he had. She looked around the room briefly, searching for the man in question, but he was gone. So was her dad. They must’ve gone out to lunch together. She looked back at Eddie.
“You know, taking you in, letting you spend some time at your old home after I…did what I did.”
She relaxed.
“After you kicked me out, you mean,” she said.
“Yeah. I’ll never stop apologizing for that, by the way. I was out of line.”
“Maybe we should talk about what led to you doing that,” she said gently.
“Could you remind me what that was?” he asked, wincing and probably hoping she wouldn’t get too upset by his memory loss.
Iris restrained a sigh.
“You just brought up what happened at the bowling alley, my interactions with Barry and how they affected you. You insisted it meant I had feelings for him. Then you kicked me out.”
“I was wrong,” he said, standing up again.
“You were?” Her brows furrowed.
“Yeah. I know there’s nothing between the two of you but friendship. I mean, nothing happened between the two of you last night, did it?”
She panicked for half a second. Luckily it didn’t show.
“Are you really asking me that?”
“No,” he said instantly. “No, of course not. It was more of a rhetorical question really.” He cleared his throat.
She looked at him suspiciously.
“It’s what I told Barry.”
“What did you tell Barry?” she asked.
“That I understand there’s only friendship between you two. There’s nothing for me to worry about.”
“There isn’t,” she said defensively. “Anything for you to worry about, I mean.”
“Exactly. I know that now. And I trust you completely. Can we please move past this?”
She sighed.
“I mean, I want to…”
“But?”
“Well, I guess, I thought you were going to blame me.”
His eyebrows furrowed.
“You did?”
“Yeah. I was gonna be willing to put my friendship with Barry on hold…indefinitely.”
“Oh, my God, Iris. I would never ask that of you.”
“You’re sure?” She nibbled on her bottom lip.
“Absolutely. I know how much you mean to each other. And if you’re certain there’s nothing going on between the two of you, I believe you from here on out.”
“I wish you’d believed me before.”
“I do now though. I promise.”
She swallowed and nodded.
“It may take me some time, Eddie, to believe that you actually trust me now. Last night was…it was hard for me. You hurt me.”
He blew out a gust of air.
“I know. I’m so sorry for that. It won’t happen again.”
She eyed him cautiously.
“How about…How about we have a romantic night tonight? This time I cook for you. I’ll even make one of those special recipes you like. Grandma Shirley, right?”
She snorted. “Esther actually, but yeah. Sure. I’d like that.”
“Yeah?”
She leaned in for a kiss.
“It’s a start.”
Barry trudged into CCPN, hoping beyond all hope not only that Linda hadn’t taken her lunch break elsewhere, but also that Iris wasn’t back yet. He didn’t want her interrupting things, and definitely not distracting him. He’d arrived with purpose, and he was going to deliver on his mission as swiftly as he could with as little hurt inflicted as possible.
He spotted Linda almost immediately, and Iris wasn’t at her desk, so he guessed she was probably still gone too. Linda caught his gaze and then quickly looked away, resuming what looked to be a paper bag lunch. He walked over to her, glad there were no other people surrounding her or the adjacent desks and braced himself for the worst.
“We need to break up.”
Linda paused with her apple halfway to her mouth. She set it down on her desk and swiveled her chair towards him.
“Well, hello to you too, Allen.”
He shoved his hands in his pockets, impatient to get this conversation over with.
“Sorry. Hi, Linda. How’s your day?” he asked speedily.
She snorted. “Just fine, and yours?”
“Linda,” he groaned.
“Fine. You want to break up? Officially?”
He nodded.
“Why the change of heart? – If I may ask. Yesterday you seemed pretty resistant to even the idea of a break. I was actually considering changing my mind after thinking about it overnight.”
He winced.
“Does it matter?”
“A little.” Her voice rose slightly.
He swallowed.
“Something may have…happened.”
She rose her brows.
“Between me and Iris.”
She sank back in her chair and drummed her fingers on the arms of her chair.
“Did you sleep with her?” she finally asked.
“No!” he said immediately, before regaining some calm. “I mean, you told me not to.”
She laughed painfully.
“Is that the only reason?”
“No,” he said truthfully.
Iris had put a stop to it. That was the truth. But Linda didn’t need to know that.
“You don’t want to know how far-”
She held up one hand.
“No. Please. Spare me.”
He nodded.
“I’m sorry, Linda. I really did – do – have strong feelings for you.”
She got up to her feet, pushing the irritation aside and focusing instead on how much she cared about him and did want him to be happy.
“Just not as strong as what you feel for someone else.”
She smiled sadly, then leaned up to press a gentle kiss to his cheek.
“Go get her,” she said, softly.
He raised his eyebrows, surprised, but then turned to look when Linda gestured toward the other side of the room, and sure enough Iris was at her desk now.
Barry took a breath and nodded.
“Thank you, Linda. I am sorry things didn’t work out between us.”
She forced a smile.
“I know. Me too.”
He turned fully and headed over to Iris’ desk. He saw one of her co-workers saying something to her and her talking with them briefly and did his best to remain patient until they had finished their conversation. Iris seemed to be oblivious to his presence anyway.
When they were done, he approached her desk and waited exactly three seconds before actively working to get her attention.
“Iris, hey.”
She glanced up at him and appeared slightly unnerved before smiling brilliantly.
“Barry, hi. What are you doing here?” she asked.
“Linda and I broke up.”
Her mouth fell open, but a moment later she shut it and opted for confusion and sadness.
“Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that.”
His brows furrowed. “You are?”
“Well, yeah.” She leaned back in her chair and crossed one knee over the other. “I mean, I thought you really liked her.”
“I did.” He frowned. “But I broke up with her.”
Surprise flashed across her face. She tried valiantly to shake it off.
“Why would you do that?” she asked, getting up and walking away. He walked with her.
“Well, I…” His frown deepened. “I thought it would be obvious. After last night…”
She froze, then grabbed a hold of his jacket and tugged him down a hall behind the main room and pinned him to the wall.
“Did you tell Linda what happened?”
His eyes widened, horrified at how threatening she was being. In most of his fantasies where she pinned him to a wall, they did not go like this.
“Well, I…I…”
“Did you?!”
“Yes!” he said, frantically. “I mean, partially.”
“Partially? What does that mean?”
“It means…I said something happened between us. She didn’t want to know any details, since I said we didn’t have sex.”
“Which we didn’t.”
“I know! Believe me, I know.”
“Okay…” She took a deep breath and started to pace. “Okay. This is not the end of the world. I will just…have a conversation with her to make sure she doesn’t tell Eddie.”
He frowned.
“You mean…you didn’t tell Eddie?”
She stopped and looked at him as if he’d lost his mind.
“Of course not. He’d break up with me if I did.”
Barry’s mouth fell open.
“But I thought…I mean…”
His heart started to plummet. This was so not going as planned.
Iris softened, realizing for the first time where Barry’s head was probably at.
“Look, Barry…what happened last night was-”
“A mistake,” he concluded, not looking at her.
“Well, yeah.” He bit her lip. “Eddie’s the man I live with. The man I love. You and I are just…”
“Best friends,” he finished.
“I hope we can be.”
His eyes closed. When they opened, they were stone cold. She’d never seen them so cold.
“Of course, Iris. That’s what we’ll always be.”
He turned to leave, and she reached out for him.
“Barry, wai-”
But he didn’t stop, and he pulled free of her. He walked now with purpose towards the exit, his heart smashed to smithereens.
What in the world had made him think things would be different this time?
Oh, yeah. That kiss.

Ch3 You Are To This Day The Only Woman I Have Ever Loved
Selin was running out of options. Her every attempt to get rid of Eda had failed and now she could barely get her alone.
What the fuck was she going to do? How the hell was she going to get rid of Eda and that damn baby she was carrying?
How was she going to keep Serkan now that he seemed to remember everything?
How do you keep someone who was never yours, to begin with?
What did she have to do to matter to him the way Eda mattered?
What the hell was it that made Serkan believed Eda was the perfect person for him when logically it was her who was perfect for him.
He said it himself once that logically they made sense. She just needed Serkan to see that she was it for him and accept it.
However, Eda needed to be completely out of the picture if that was going to happen.
Maybe her only option left was to ensure that Eda got into a horrific car accident. She needed something that couldn’t be tied back to her. Something that wasn’t suspicious.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
The next time Eda woke up she was less disoriented. She looked at Serkan in surprise to see him. “Serkan, what are you doing here?”
“I told you,” Serkan sat gently beside her and placed his hand tenderly against her cheek. “I wasn’t going anywhere.”
Eda shook her head, her heart lurching in her chest. “That was just a dream. It wasn’t real. You don’t want to be here with me. You-”
“There is nowhere else I would rather be than right here. With you.” Serkan cut her off firmly. “Eda, I remember everything. Every single moment with you. From the moment we met to when we said goodbye on our wedding day.”
Tears filled Eda’s eyes. “Don’t play with me Serkan, I couldn’t handle such a cruel joke,”
His thumb brushed away a stray tear. It hurt to think she thought him capable of such cruelty. “I know I have been hurtful and unkind since I came back, especially to you. I hate myself for it but I can promise you those days are over. I, the man who loves you more than anything would never set out to cause you pain or hurt you. Intentionally or otherwise. I hope you can forgive me and allow me to spend the rest of our lives making up for every mean word I said or action I did that caused you pain.” Serkan reached in his jacket, pulling her ring from his pocket, staring into her eyes, he took her hand and slipped the ring back on her finger. "I hope you don't mind that I had Layla ordered it fixed while you were out."
Her engagement flower ring was no longer the necklace he turned into and was resting perfectly on her finger once again.
“I love you,” Eda said, her voice filled with emotion. “And I still want to grow old with you and spend all my days with you by my side.”
“Good.” Serkan reached up to his shirt and lifted a chain from his neck, removing the ring and carefully back onto his finger, tears gathering in his own eyes as a feeling of rightness filled him. He leaned forward pressing his lips against her forehead and then, moving down to press a kiss to her cheek, he moved to her lips, brushing his lips across hers in a feather-light caress.
The door to her room opened and a throat cleared. Serkan pulled back to see Eda’s doctor entering the room. “Ms. Yilmaz, you’re awake. That’s good to see.”
“We’ve been monitoring you closely since you were brought in by your friend. Luckily, she found you when she did. Without her, I am quite certain you could have bled out. You had some broken bones, cracked ribs, and a concussion. You had some swelling on the blade but we've been monitoring it closely and has gone down on its own. Now, I’m sure you’re worried for the baby so we’re going to get them checked out,” he moved toward an ultrasound machine willing it closer to the bed.
Eda’s eyes widened. “Baby? What baby?”
“You didn’t know?” Dr. Kaya asked in surprise.
“No,” Eda looked at Serkan, eyes wide and lips parted. “I didn’t know. I would’ve told you.” she looked back Dr. Kaya. “The baby, is it..is it...it’s-” She broke off, letting out a shuddering breath.
She couldn’t even voice the question, tears gathered in her eyes and she used her good arm that wasn't injured to wrap around her middle. “Serkan, I can’t do this.”
Serkan’s heart dropped to his stomach. She didn’t want his child. He knows he was terrible and he hurt her but this was their baby.
“I can’t lose anyone else, let alone our baby, I won’t survive it. I won’t.” she shook her head, trying to be strong but failing as she felt her chest crack open with pain.
Relief hit Serkan. She wanted their child. She was scared of losing their child. He was too. He put his hand over hers on her stomach locking their fingers together. “You’re not alone. Whatever happens, we’ll get through it together. You are a fighter and I have no doubt you’ve passed that on to our child. Everything is going to be okay.”
Eda nodded and Dr. Kaya gave them a moment to compose themselves before preparing Eda for the ultrasound. “If we can locate the baby’s heartbeat, there’s no reason to believe you won’t have a perfectly healthy baby.”
Eda held on tightly to Serkan’s hand with her good one. Serkan stepped closer his hand tightening around hers in response. They were both holding their breath collectively.
The room was silent. Tears filled Eda’s eyes.
Serkan's jaw clenched. It was taking too long and he didn’t like the look in Dr. Kaya's eyes.
The doctor looked up with an apologetic look. “I’m sor-”
Thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump.
Eda’s eyes widened as the fast rhythmic beat filled the room.
The doctor sighed inaudibly in relief. “And that there is your baby’s heartbeat.”
“Is it meant to be that fast?” Serkan asked, alarmed.
“Yes, it’s the sound of a strong heartbeat. It’s a good sign.” Dr. Kaya assured. “Now let’s see if we can find this survivor.”
Eda looked at the screen anxiously for just a moment and then her breath left her.
The picture of her baby on the grainy screen was so clear.
The shape of her baby, the tiny little body, the head, the moving arms, and legs.
Eda pressed her hand to her mouth overcome with emotion, she looked at Serkan to see he had tears in his eyes.
“Serkan?” she asked.
He looked down at her and smiled the most beautiful smile she has ever seen from him. “I can’t believe we did that. I can’t believe we’re having a baby.”
Eda reached up cupping his cheek. “We’re having a baby!” she smiled widely.
Serkan couldn’t stop himself, he ducked down kissing her with all the emotion he was feeling, and pressed his forehead against hers. “I love you.”
Eda wrapped her arm around his shoulders, and buried her face in his neck, breathing him in, crying silently. It was so good to hear him say those words to her again. She missed it. She missed him.
She couldn’t believe her Serkan was back.
“Everything seems to be fine,” Dr. Kaya said, bringing their attention back to her as they parted slowly but held onto each other's hands, constantly touching. “I want to keep you for a few days as a precaution while you recover then we will talk about sending you home.”
Eda nodded.
“Now, do you think you can tell me about your accident? What do you remember?” Dr. Kaya questioned.
“I was getting ready to leave when Selin-” Eda’s eyes widened. “Oh my God, Se-” Eda gasped in pain when she jolted forward. “Selin, it was Selin.”
“What was Selin?” Serkan asked, urging her to lay back. “Take it easy.”
“Selin pushed me,” Eda said, looking at him.
“What?” Serkan faltered.
“I know you don’t want to believe it because it’s Selin and you trust her,” Eda began, remembering Serkan not believing Selin capable of doing anything wrong. “But she pushed me down the stairs.” she grabbed Serkan’s hands and looked up at him. “You have to believe me.”
Serkan cupped her cheek. “I do. I do believe you.”
Now that he had his memories back he was aware of Selin’s manipulations, how she took advantage of the situation. She had so much to answer for.
But to think she was capable of trying to kill Eda was disgusting.
He didn’t even know her anymore and it made him wonder, did he ever truly know her?
“You believe me,” Eda’s words were full of surprise.
“I do and I will take care of it-”
A knock sounded on the door and a lab technician in a white coat walked into the room with a grave. “Dr. Kaya, I think you should see this.”
Dr. Kaya took the extended file, the doctor’s frown deepening.
“What’s wrong?” Serkan asked alarmed, Eda’s hand tightened around his, clinging to him.
“Ms. Yildiz your blood shows you have traces of a rare substance that causes a person to go into cardiac arrest. It’s a hard substance to come by and nearly undetectable but it explains while suddenly took a turn for the worse last night when you were doing better.”
“I’m sorry but how could that have happened when I’ve been here?” Eda asked.
“I don’t know but I promise we will get to the bottom of this,” Dr. Kaya assured.
“You better,” Serkan growled. “Or I will and I won’t hesitate to sue this hospital for neglecting my Fiance’s safety.”
“What about the baby?” Eda asked. “Could it have caused harm to the baby?”
“No,” Dr. Kaya shook her head. “Every indication we have seen is that your baby is perfectly healthy.”
Serkan felt fear and instinctively placed his hand over her flat stomach. “You're sure?”
“As sure as I medically can be,” she answered. “And as I said before I would like to keep her for a few days to monitor her and the baby just to be on the safe side.”
“Okay, but I expect her security to be better and I want you to treat her like she is your number one priority cause she is.”
“And what are you going to do?” Eda asked.
“I am going to take care of everything with Selin.” Serkan’s eyes were dark. He leaned down pressing his lips to Eda’s forehead. “I won’t let her hurt you again.”
Eda nodded silently. She was more than capable of taking care of herself but it was a relief that she wouldn’t have to argue about Selin with him.
He stepped away just as there was a knock on the door, Selin poked her head in. “Serkan, there you are. I think we should be going now,” she looked at Eda. “It’s clear Eda is going to be okay.”
“Yes,” Serkan forced a smile. “We have much to discuss. Today has shown me that life is short and we shouldn’t put off the things that mattered.”
“I’m glad to hear you say that,” Selin moved, and wrapped her arms around him.
Serkan slowly brought his arms around her. It was the last thing he wanted to do. He looked over at Eda.
There was pain there in her expression, in her eyes.
“Trust me.” he mouthed to her.
Slowly she nodded, she did trust him but it didn’t make seeing Selin in his arms any easier.
Serkan released Selin and tugged her out of the room. Eda wasn’t sure what he was planning but this was her Serkan now, it wouldn’t be long before she found out what the punishment would be for Selin's crimes.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Selin was surprised Serkan had left the hospital when he had been so adamant about staying by Eda’s side and when it had to seemed to her that he was starting to remember his life with Eda. Perhaps she read him wrong.
She walked with him into Art Life but stopped when Serkan froze.
Serkan stared at the bottom of the stairs. Blood stained the floor. Eda’s blood.
His eyes slowly traveled up the flight of stairs, the very thought that Eda was pushed and she fell that far was awful made worse knowing in her stomach rested their child and the woman beside him, someone he once thought a close friend was the one to do it. She had tried to take the only thing he couldn’t live without. His bright star in a sea of darkness
“Serkan is everything okay?” Selin asked, in what sounded like concern but he now saw through it. Through her.
Just looking at her made his stomach turn but he had to keep up the act. It would be worth it.
He shook his head. “Fine, you know, how I hate stains.”
“Let me make some calls I will have it taken care of,” Selin said and stepped over the stain, heading to her office.
Serkan turned. One destination in mind. He needed to check the company footage.
He walked into his office, pulling up his computer he put in his password and login to the company’s security feed, he rewound the footage at the top of the stairs back until he stopped it on the two figures, standing at the top of the stairs.
Eda and Selin.
He looked up to make sure Selin wasn’t coming back yet before pressing play. He kept the volume low as to not alert Selin to what he was doing.
He watched Eda and Selin’s argument play out, their words cut and biting. He paled as he watches Eda turned to walk down the stairs and Selin’s hand slamming against her back, propelling his Eda forward.
Eda's fall was brutal and painful to watch.
His stomach churned violently in disgust as Selin showed no regret or remorse for what she did. instead, she walked down the stairs and over Eda’s crumpled body and kept going.
He fast forward, his heart pounding. How long did she lay there, hurt and bleeding, fighting to survive?
Almost an hour later in the footage, Melo, arrived and immediately was distraught, pleading with Eda.
God, he couldn’t watch anymore.
He quickly exited the footage and grabbed the drive on his desk copying the footage. He heard the sound of heels on the floor just as it was done and quickly ejected it, slipping it into his pocket. He shut his computer just as Selin appeared in the doorway.
“Did you find the papers you needed to go over?” She asked.
Serkan had to force his disgust down beneath the surface along with his anger.
It was so fucking hard. How could he have trusted her so blindly? Clearly, he had damaged his brain more than he first thought.
“Yes,” he grabbed the folders next to his laptop. “Unfortunately we need to make a trip back to the hospital. There are some legal documents that I need to finalize. They need Eda’s signature. Hopefully, she is feeling well enough to sign.”
“Can’t this wait?” Selin protested. “We’ve been there all night.”
“I’m sorry. It can’t. We’ll go there have her sign then we can leave and go grab something to eat, take some time to ourselves for the rest of the day,” he reached for her hand, every fiber in his being was against the simple touch but he had a part to play and he needed her to believe everything was the same. He needed her to trust him. “Sound good?”
Selin smiled, enjoying the simple touch she curled her hand around his. “Yes. Perhaps we can begin to plan the wedding and set a date?”
“Absolutely, if that’s what you want.” The words did not come easy but he hopes she did not notice.
“Okay, let’s go back to the hospital so we can then focus on us,” she leaned up and press her lips to his cheek.
Serkan resisted the urge to push her away and wipe his skin clean where her lips touched.
He forced a smile and tugged her out of the office with him. Repeatedly telling himself to keep up the act. He just needed to gather all the evidence he could against her before revealing that he remembered everything and make her pay for trying to take his life, his Eda, his unborn child away from him.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Eda’s hand rested on her stomach lightly.
“Did you know?” her aunt asked softly sitting beside her on the bed.
“No,” Eda shook her head. “I wouldn’t have believed it myself but I heard the heartbeat and I saw the baby on the screen. Serkan and I are having a child.”
Ayfer smiled. “I hope being a mother brings joy to your life as much as you have brought joy to mine.”
Eda squeezed her aunt’s hand. “I hope I will be a good mom,”
“You will,” Ayfer assured. “You and Serkan will be the best parents.”
“Is it true? Does Serkan remember?” Melo stood beside Ayfer.
“He does. He remembers everything.” Eda assured her.
“Then why did he leave with Selin?” Melo wondered.
“I think he’s playing her, trying to get her to confess to what she did,” Eda answered. “But I think she’s too smart for that. She won’t openly confess.”
“Then what will he do?” Melo asked. “We can’t let her get away with hurting you again and again. She’s gone too far this time. She's gone crazy.”
“I don’t know,” Eda said. “But I trust that Serkan will make sure Selin faces the consequences of her actions.”
“She tried to kill you,” Ceren interjected on the other side of her bed. “He’s going to do everything in his power to make sure she can’t do it again. He loves you too much to stand by and let her get away with all that she has done.”
Eda was fully aware of how much her Serkan loved her. She hoped when this was all over they could move on and he wouldn’t blame himself for Selin’s crimes.
She did not want a repeat of when it came to his father’s crimes. She didn't want him making decisions about their relationship for her.
Sometime later a knock sounded and the door to her room was being pushed open.
Eda’s smiled as Serkan came into the room but quickly faded as Selin came into the room close behind him.
Her whole body tensed and she had the intense urge to curl up and protect her stomach.
“Eda, I know now must not be a good time but we need you to sign some documents for a project,” Serkan said, walking forward and handing her some papers.
“Eda, I am so sorry about your accident,” Selin apologized. “Do you remember how it happened?”
“No,” she lied. “I think I slipped. I can’t remember much about that night.” Eda looked at Melo. “I was lucky Melo found me in time before I bled out.”
Selin looked over at Melo. "How fortunate that you were there,"
"Very." Melo returned icily.
Selin forced down a sneer, plastering on a pleasant smile. "I do hope everything is okay," She looked back at Eda. "I'm sorry about the baby."
Serkan first clenched and he counted down in his head forcing himself to remain calm.
"My baby is going to be fine," Eda raised her chin. "They're a survivor like their mother."
"That's wonderful news, I'm sure when you tell Deniz he will be relieved." Selin forced her voice to stay polite.
"I'm sure he would be except he is not the father." Eda couldn't help but feel good about the angry look that crossed Selin's face.
It was quick but she couldn't cover it fast enough. Eda couldn't wait for her to pay for every despicable act Selin has committed against her and Serkan and now her child.
Selin looked from Serkan and Eda. “I see, then we have much to discuss. Of course, it should wait until after your out of the hospital.”
“Selin, why don’t you get us some coffee. The quicker we can get these papers signed, the better. There is much work to be done and we shouldn’t bother Eda while she heals longer than we have to. We'll have plenty of time to talk about this once she’s out of the hospital.” Serkan suggested.
He pulled out his phone. “We have more meetings to attend to according to my event calendar.”
Melo's phone pinged in her bag, she retrieved it to see a text from Serkan and realized he was using the excuse of looking at his calendar to discreetly text her.
She opened the text.
Go with Selin and keep her occupied for as long as possible. Don’t let her leave your sight.
“Of course, I’ll be right back, my love,” Selin said, leaning up to kiss his cheek.
“I will go with you,” Melo interjected. “I think we all can use some coffee after the stress of last night. Except for Eda, of course. It isn't good for the baby.”
Selin forced a smile and led the way out of the room.
Melo followed her out, sending a smile at Serkan over her shoulder. She will do as he asks of her.
As soon as they were gone, Serkan tossed the documents onto the hospital tray next to Eda’s bed.
“Don’t I need to sign those?” Eda asked.
“No, I just needed to come back here and not raise Selin’s suspicions. I found footage at the office of her pushing you. And I think I can find proof that she was the one who drugged you last night. I’ll be right back if Selin returns before I do tell her I got a call and I went to take it in my car because of the hospital’s poor cell reception.”
“I’m coming with you,” said Ceren following him out, wanting to help in some way.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Serkan had ended up arguing with security for a few minutes before Ceren stepped in and with her legal knowledge convinced them to let them take a look at the footage.
Serkan watched the security footage of the hallway outside Eda’s room, Selin walked into the screen. He was asleep outside her door, leaning against the floor.
She looked around, the time stamp of the footage place it at 3:37 in the morning. When Selin saw the coast was clear she opened her hand to reveal a small vial. She turned the doorknob and pushed it open and disappeared inside Eda’s room, the door closing behind her.
Serkan pulled out his hard drive and plug it in, copying the hospital security footage. “I have footage of her pushing Eda down the stairs, with this new footage, is it enough to get her for attempted manslaughter?”
“Yes, and if you press charges on grounds for cruelty and emotional abuse for her manipulations Selin will not be getting away with anything that she has done,” Ceren answered.
“Good,” Serkan ejected the drive and pulled out his phone, calling the authorities, determined to make sure Selin would not hurt Eda in any way again.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
Serkan and Ceren returned to Eda’s room just in time because a few minutes later, Selin and Melo returned.
“Here you go,” Selin held a cup of hot coffee out toward Serkan. “I got it just how you like. Should we start discussing everything that needs to be addressed?”
“I think that’s an excellent idea,” Serkan stepped away from her, moving to sit on the edge of Eda’s bed, taking her hand in his and lacing their fingers together. “How about we start with how you tried to kill Eda and my child?”
“What? I no,” Selin shook her head. “I would never do something like that. Serkan, you are not making sense.”
“Last night, I remembered everything,” Serkan said, his eyes growing cold. “When Eda's health abruptly started declining, her heart stopped. I felt it,” he placed his free hand over his heart. “No one, especially you, will ever truly understand the depth of our connection. Our hearts are connected, our souls are meant for each other. One should not exist without the other.”
Tears filled Eda’s eyes as he spoke so passionately.
“When I saw her slipping away from me to somewhere I wouldn’t be able to reach her it all came rushing back to me like a tidal wave, one memory after another from the first moment I laid eyes on her to the moment we said goodbye on our wedding day to every moment in between when I fell for her continuously. There is no one in this world who my heart beats for but her. These past months I felt like something was missing, a vital piece was missing. I didn’t know what it was but I do now.”
Serkan released Eda's hand and stood walking toward Selin. “And you knew.”
Selin wiped all emotion from her face at the accusatory words and look of anger Serkan was giving her.
“When I was hurt and vulnerable and couldn’t remember the most valuable thing in my life, you saw it as an opportunity to insert yourself into my life, to take advantage of my injury and take my life away from me.” Serkan looked at her in disgust. “You twisted my and Eda’s story around to make her out to be this horrible, manipulative person when in truth that is the person that you are.”
Selin glared. “I was given a second chance to do things differently. We were given a chance to be happy together and I took it.” Selin stepped forward, reaching out to Serkan. “You were happy with me, Serkan. Your memory loss has proven that we can be happy when Eda isn’t in your life.”
“Is that why you tried to kill me?” Eda demanded. “To get me out of Serkan’s life so you can continue living a lie?”
“I didn’t try to kill you.” Selin denied.
“You pushed me down the stairs,” Eda said. “I remember that night clearly.”
“You remembered wrong.” Selin insisted realizing Eda had lied earlier when she said she didn't remember what happened. “You hit your head and are confused.”
“You’re right she did hit her head.” Serkan agreed, his tone sharp like a knife. “However, you are the reason for that and we have proof.”
That caught Selin by surprise. “What?”
“You seem to have forgotten about the cameras at work. There is footage of your argument and more importantly of you shoving Eda down the stairs with intent to hurt her. You walk away after, leaving her to bleed out.”
“No,” Selin shook her head in denial. “The footage was doctored.”
“And the footage of you going into Eda’s room last night to drug her with something that would kill her, knowing she was pregnant was that doctored too?” Ceren interjected.
“We have everything on the footage to put you away for a long time.” Ayfer, swept her hand over Eda protectively while glaring at Selin. “You will not get away with this.”
“I will not stand here and listen to these ridiculous allegations.” Selin turned around but stopped short as two officers walked in. “Ms. Atakin, you are under arrest for the attempted murder of Eda Yildiz.”
“Don’t worry, Selin,” Eda said. “There will be more charges brought up. It’s time you pay for your wrongful actions.”
“There’s some kind of mistake, this is all a misunderstanding.” Selin insisted as the cops turned her around and placed her in handcuffs. “Please, Serkan.” Selin looked at him pleadingly. “If I mean anything to you at all, don’t let this happen.”
"You mean nothing to me at all." Serkan turned his back to her and sat down beside Eda, lifting his hand to her cheek directing her gaze toward him. “I need you to know something,”
Eda looked at him, Selin forgotten, even as she resisted arrest, seething.
Serkan brushed his thumb across her cheek, reverently and Eda’s breath caught in her throat at the pure look of love in his eyes. “You are to this day the only woman I have ever loved.”
Selin stopped moving the honesty in Serkan’s words making every inside turn to something dark. "I hate you. I hate you both." she seethed as the police finally had her in cuffs, leading her out.
“I have never been in love before you and I know you have ruined me for anyone else, Eda Yildiz. I am incapable of loving anyone but you. Everything I am, every part of me is yours.”
Eda smiled, happy tears in her eyes, she lifted her good hand, curling it around the back of his neck, and pulled him down so their lips could meet in a kiss that had every part of her coming to life.
Eda and Serkan were so consumed by each other that neither noticed as Eda’s aunt and friends walked from the room, leaving the reunited couple alone.
~*~ ~*~ ~*~
For the next month Eda focused on her recovery, Serkan hired the best lawyers for their case against Selin pushing the trial through the system faster.
Thankfully, it only lasted a few weeks and with all the evidence stacked up against her, Selin still refused to confess to her crimes but it didn’t matter in the end she was convicted of Attempted Murder on Eda and their unborn child, and for emotional cruelty on Serkan.
She was sentenced to 10 to fifteen years in prison with no chance of parole.
Eda was relieved and Serkan did everything he could to erase traces of Selin from his life. he hired a new PR, threw all her things in the trash, and severed ties with her completely.
Serkan stayed with Eda every day she was in the hospital, leaving Engin and Piril to handle everything with the company.
When Eda was finally released he took her home back to his house.
Eda had only been there a little over a month but she wasn’t sure she could continue staying there. “You need a new apartment.” she sat on the counter as Serkan was making her lunch. “I keep picturing you and Selin here and I just, I can’t. I hate even thinking about that murderous snake.”
“I’ve been wanting to talk to you about that.” Serkan set the pasta he was cooking to a simmer and came to stand between her legs, he rested one hand on her stomach that had popped, showing the evidence of their growing child, and uses his other hand to brush her hair back away from her face. “I want to get a new place when the baby is born. For all of us. You, me, and the baby.”
“I always thought we would get a place together after we got married,” Eda replied in surprise.
“Yes but that was before you got pregnant. I thought you would want to get married after she’s born.”
“She?” Eda repeated. “You think it’s a girl?”
“I keep picturing a little girl in our future,” Serkan confessed with a shy smile. “The boy can come later.”
In truth, Eda wanted a little girl, too.
“Serkan, I was ready to marry you on our wedding day. I still am. We could get married today, tomorrow, a year for now and it wouldn’t change anything.” Eda said, tracking the ring that was once again gracing his finger. “My love for you isn’t going to change.”
“Then let’s get married,” Serkan said, gathering her against his body, pressing his forehead against hers. “Tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?” Eda repeated cradling his face with her good hand.
“Yes, tomorrow. Haven’t we waited long enough? I want to be able to call you my wife. Mrs. Eda Bolat.”
“I love the sound of that,” Eda pressed her lips to his in a soft kiss. “Let’s do it. Let’s get married.”
Serkan wrapped his arm around her and lifted her from the counter carrying her to the couch, pressing her back into the cushions mindful of her casted arm and keeping his weight off her, deepening their kiss his hands worshipping her body.
