Loki’s room was dark and humid. Thick waves of moisture rolled to you from his en suite, bringing with it the scent of his soap and aftershave. He must have taken a shower moments before movie night, you mused to yourself.
As the latch on his door clicked closed, the fireplace roared to life startling you. The heat from the fire only made his scent grow deep and heady. Warm yellow light canvased the room. You followed the flicker of the flames as your eyes took in Loki’s private chambers.
There you were…alone in his room. His sanctuary. A rare opportunity to sneak around and find out more about the intimidating god of mischief. Nothing had changed since that fateful night when you challenged him to Blackjack. That following morning, you were too hurt and busy trying to get out of the mortifying situation you walked yourself into to appreciate anything else.
His desk sat in the middle of the room, facing his bed. A house of cards was meticulously crafted on top— an elaborate pyramid of angles and shapes. Some cards, magically teetering on their corners. You had forgotten your deck that night, in a hurry to leave and lick your wounds from Loki’s casual opinion of your relationship with each other.
You reached out to take one— a discarded card lying on the bottom layer. You focused on the filigree and the cherub on the back cover, greeting you back.
“I thought I told you to wait for me on my bed?” His deep voice froze your movements, squeezing the air from your lungs. You turned quickly to find Loki, already closing the final steps to you.
“Loki, I-” He didn’t let you finish as he seized your lips and invaded your senses once again. His fingers laced themselves in your hair. His other hand pulled your shirt off from behind, popping your buttons, and exposing your breasts that were already spilling over your bra from his groping earlier.
You wrapped your arms around his neck, hoping to melt with him. You needed him closer. You needed his every being to get reacquainted with you. God, it's been so long.
His kiss was never-ending. He didn’t let you catch your breath, stealing your mouth every time you moved to inhale. His lips were so ravenous and demanding that it almost hurt. “…Loki…” you whined.
At long last, his fingers pulled your hair and brought your face up to meet his eyes. “You never do as you’re told, do you, darling? You never listen. Always worried about letting people inside.” His fist in your hair got tighter. His breath was hot and sweet; trying to hold back an emotion you had yet to work out. “Is that why you perfected your poker face? To hide the lies underneath?”
“What lies?!” you asked insulted and slightly afraid. “You lied to me! You used me just to play some game! Toying with me! Just entertainment for the night!” You tried to push him back, but his body was hard and unyielding. You pounded on his chest, trying to get away. But he trapped you in his arms and he wouldn’t let you go.
“You don’t listen! I have already told you, and yet you still pay no heed to my words! Do you even know how the last two weeks have been for me?” he said with a cold glare. “Torture! The moment you walked out of my bed, I started doubting myself. I started doubting you! I never thought you of all people would play me for a game like you do with your cards and tricks.”
He was furious! You had no idea how this would go, where Loki was going with his discourse. You knew Loki would never hurt you intentionally, but the look in his eyes was undoubtedly anger and pain. Not knowing terrified you and it also sent a thrill down your spine.
You had hurt him. You can see that now. He was affected as much as you were that night. You could see it in the unshed glimmer in his eyes. “You do care about me,” you realized.
“And what made you think I didn’t?” he demanded. His hold on you tightened. To be in his arms and to know that he was holding back so much of his godly strength. It hurt to almost breathe in his presence. But that was nothing compared to the guilt you felt inside. It hurt to know that you had assumed the worst of him and failed to communicate what you wanted. That you had missed out on two glorious weeks of being with him.
“You said you liked playing games. The way everything unfolded…I- I didn’t know what to think. I had no idea you even looked at me that way! And in mere hours I was splayed like a toy for you in your bed, Loki! What was I supposed to think?! How was I to know that I wasn’t just another conquest for you? That your confession was true?” you yelled back at him.
“Does this feel untrue to you!” he bucked his hips to yours, pushing you against his desk. You let out a carnal moan as you felt the length of him rub against your awaiting clit- throbbing to feel more of him, to be closer to him. The pyramid shook slightly behind you but remained standing. “Perhaps, you need a little reminder…” he growled as he kissed your lips boldly.
Blurring colors started to form and solidify in your head. Memories took shape as if they were tangible moving pictures.
~Loki growled. His fervor and desire ruling all rational thought. “I love that you’re intelligent,” he said as he flattened out his tongue and lapped the juices flowing from your cunt. “…Loki…” “I love how clever you are.” He said giving your sensitive clit a soft kiss. “I love how you’re willing to play my games.” He laughed as he kissed his way up your stomach. He knelt up on the bed, towering over your lustful figure beneath him. His eyes were wild taking in your heavy breathing, your glowing skin, and how utterly besotted you were when you looked at him. Your eyes were hooded and pleading, missing his tongue. Your mouth was open, ready to beg him to continue. “And by the Norns, you look absolutely sinful laying on my bed the way you are now.” He lined his hard cock at your entrance and slammed his way inside your tight folds.~
You felt him thrust towards your aching cunt, as if he was reliving the memory himself. The heavy force of his illusion pushed you back into reality. The house of cards gave way and fell behind you in one fell swoosh.
“You love me,” you whispered to yourself. Tears brimmed your lids as you looked at the truth in his eyes. The realization was heavy and thick; along with the guilt of invalidating his feelings.
Loki closed his eyes as he leaned in to rest his head on yours. He took a deep breath, relieved you had finally understood what he was trying to convey. Your fingers brushed through his silken hair, pulling him closer. Your lips apologized for you as you assailed his beautiful face with kisses. Softly, one after another. His fervid cheeks. His troubled eyes. His sharp chin. He felt each kiss as a prayer of penance asking for his forgiveness.
Your velvet lips turned into passionate kisses the more you held him. Loki returned your fervor with as much desire, if not more. How long has he waited for this? Dreamt of this? Wondering if he’d ever get the chance to kiss you again like this.
He had already granted you his pardon- earlier tonight when you had confessed that you imagined kissing him instead of Rogers. Perhaps even earlier than that, when you sat down on his lap and acknowledged his presence, finally, after weeks of disaffection. You had his forgiveness, but not his mercy.
“Loki, I need you. Please,” you begged. You started to unbutton his shirt, your fingernails nicking and scratching at his creamy skin in haste. “Make love to me,” you whined, wanting to compensate for lost time.
He licked his lips and savored your words. “Oh no, pet,” he chuckled darkly. “Only good girls get made love to...” Loki pushed your shoulders down, laying you on his desk. Your eyes widened in shock as your hair flowed around you, weaving with the cards of the fallen castle. He pulled your legs forward, bringing your hips flushed with his hard cock. “…Bad girls get fucked!”
You took a sharp intake of air as his words rattled your nerves. You heard the zip of his pants as his hands held you down on his desk. He nudged the wet gusset of your panties aside and guided the tip of his cock at your entrance. You moaned shamelessly when you felt him inside you for the first time in weeks.
He let out a shaky breath as he dragged himself up and down through your wet lips. Slowly teasing you, making you squirm with need. “…please…” you said so quietly you thought it was in your head. “…please, Loki…”
He gave into your cries. Into your begging; and thrust quickly inside you. You let out a vulgar moan at the sheer length of him filling you completely. Your knees squeezed around his hips as you tried to slow his assault. Your nails dug into the soft wood of his desk trying to hold on. “Stop resisting, my love. I thought this was what you wanted?” he grunted.
 Your hands gripped his wrist that was holding down your shoulder. He gathered your skirt around your waist and used it as leverage to thrust deeper into you. “Just a little bit deeper…fuck…When I’m…when I’m done with you…I’ll make sure…you can’t walk in the morning…” he vowed. “So, you won’t leave my bed like you did that day.” His rage was palpable and cloying.
“…Loki…” you whined. But that only made him go harder. Faster.
You held the edge of the desk above you, trying to meet his passionate thrust with your own. Strands of your hair fell off to the sides. Your back arched, and you could feel the cards stick to the sweat of your skin.
“You like this, don’t you? Look how wet you are for me.” He watched as your sweet cum coated his shaft, making him groan. You could feel it dripping from you with each hard thrust of his cock. “Do you like it rough?”
“…fuck, Loki…please…”
“You’re enjoying this too much.” His hand moved from your shoulder up to your throat. He grabbed your chin in between his thumb and forefinger, “Next time, I’ll just fuck you in front of the team. So, they can see what a begging mess you become for me.”
And he was right. You are a mess. And you are enjoying this too much. You had always prided yourself in being a tough and independent person. But when it comes to Loki, you didn’t hesitate to be cuffed and barred. You didn’t fight it when he chased you. You wanted him to catch you. You wanted his dominance.
Loki bent to hover over you, pinning your hips down to his hard desk. “You are not to leave me. Ever. Do you understand?” his breath came out labored and grunting. “You can storm out angry. You can yell, scream, and fight. Hell, I prefer it. But you are never to leave without returning and talking about it afterward. Is that clear?” He thrust deep to mark his point. You moaned loudly into the stifling air. Your fingernails digging into his shoulders.
“Say it!” he thrust again, demanding an answer.
“yesyesyes…please Loki…I’m a-about to…” you squeezed tighter around him. You wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed him.
“Come on then. Give it to me.” He demanded in your ear. You wrapped your ankles around his waist, keeping him locked to you. Loki stood back up, taking your wrist ad holding them down against his desk. You were trapped in between his corded arms. All you could see was the beautiful face of a god unraveling above you. His slanted brows and his gritted teeth, his deep voice grunting at the feel of your warmth around him.
You could feel the tight pull of his shaft against your walls when he dragged himself out and plunged back in. “Fuck baby, that’s it. Tighter. Come on.”
Your legs shook and you screamed his name one last time. Your orgasm pulses inside you, making every single part of you sensitive and euphoric. Loki followed soon after. His hips jutted forward with each grunt and spill of his climax inside you.
Loki bent over you again. He caged your head between his arms and kissed you softly on your swollen lips. Your hands roamed his back, feeling his powerful muscles contort and contract as he moaned above you. Your nails would scratch on his smooth skin whenever his cock twitched inside you. “Loki.”
Without breaking your kiss, he scooped you up from his desk and walked over to his bed. “…such a good girl for me, darling…” he whispered on your skin. “…taking me all in like that. Good fucking girl...” Your throat was hoarse and stung too much to answer anything above a sigh. His plush blankets welcomed you as he laid you down on top. “…and do you know what good girls get?”
You bit your lip to stop from giggling. Loki lined himself up with your entrance once again and pushed slowly. Your giggles turned into moans as he continued his rhythmic thrust against your heat.
“Look at me, darling,” he asked so sweetly. Your furrowed eyes caught his. “I love you,” he murmured. “I should’ve said it from the very beginning.” He continued at a tantric pace, keeping his stare at yours. You tightened around him and you got a more genuine feel for him. Every vein, every inch, pulling your moans from your lips and leaving you with nothing but the sensation of his love and adoration for you.
He looked deep into your eyes, and you could tell that he was close again. “I love you too,” you whispered. Loki let go. At the same time, your body releases itself into a climax. One of the strongest, and most powerful, ones you’ve ever felt.
His body sunk on top of yours. He was finally letting go of the weight and worry that he held these past weeks. And you welcomed it by holding him tighter against you.
Tumblr media
You woke up the next morning, tender and stinging. The tiniest movement of your hips shot an aching soreness throughout your body. And you smiled. Your mind reeled at the memories of last night. After your shared confessions, Loki took you again in the shower, then on the floor, and then in the shower again. He fucked you in every conceivable space in his room. And then he would make love to every inch of your body afterward.
“Can you walk?” his voice was low and gravelly. The dredges of sleep have yet to release him from their grasp.
“Well, good morning to you too.” You playfully pushed him aside, pretending to be insulted. He laughed as he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you in for a morning kiss.
“Good morning, my love…” he said with adoration. “…Can you walk?” he repeated. You rolled your eyes at him, smiling. You knew the answer before you even attempted to sit up and try to get off his bed.
Your hips felt out of place. Your thighs burned and screamed at being used again so soon after last night. And your feet could barely hold you up threatening to slip. “No, I can’t. Are you happy?”
Loki scooped you up making you yelp and grab hold of his shoulders. “Tremendously, so.” He said kissing you heatedly on your lips.
Tumblr media
Nat sat in the conference room, reading Tony’s mission briefing from the night before. The rest of the team returned early last night and decided to join in on the movie. No one had noticed that you and Laufeyson were missing until Thor asked where his brother was. “They were both very tired. I think they might’ve gone to bed early,” Nat smirked.
And now, here she was watching the two of you come out of the bedroom hallways. A sudden giggle escapes from your lips. She looked over the paper and witnessed Laufeyson carrying you into the kitchen bridal style. “Put me down! I can walk now you know,” you whispered into his ear.
“Oh, darling. We both know I’m too good for that to wear off so quickly.”
“You pompous ass!”
“Yes, one that has your scratch marks all over it!” He gave you a quick peck on the lips, followed by his signature devious smirk. Loki pulled out one of the chairs and sat down with you on top of his lap.
Oh, this oughta be good! Nat neglected the rest of her work on the table and made her way over to the two of you. Loki had conjured a muffin and some coffee for you. While you sat on his lap feeding him grapes like he was Dionysus himself.
“You know, when I dared you to sit on his lap, I meant for the length of the movie,” Nat said coming up from behind you and sitting across the table. “Not indefinitely.”
“Your lovely friend here has been incapacitated, Agent Romanoff.” Loki smiled, nuzzling his nose against the smell of his shampoo in your hair. “I’m afraid she’ll need assistance from here on out. For the foreseeable future.”
“Stop it!” you chided him.
“Make me,” he teased.

⬅️ Truth or Dare | Hide and Seek (Coming Soon) ➡️
A/N: I guess I wasn't ready to let go of these two yet. This series wasn't supposed to have any major angst or plot. It was just supposed to be a collection of these two characters playing random "adult" games. So, I will try to get back to that thought and update whenever I think of something for them to do 😉.

The Redbridge Hunts, Chapter 47
Tumblr media
It was Saturday evening and Claire was ready for the Halloween party, she was dressed up as a vampire. She had picked up a corset type of dress that was also like a large cape all in one, it was mainly black with red through it. She had fake fangs in and had a few drops of blood on her chin.
She went into the living room to wait for Loki. When Bat spotted Claire, she zoomed over towards her, stopped on front of her in a playful bow stance and then did a little leap before racing around the living room, leaping onto the sofa and down the back. Then she ran back round over to Claire and skidded to a stop at her feet with a meow.
‘Are you alright, Bat?’ Claire laughed and crouched down to scoop the cat up.
Bat chirped and began purring loudly as Claire cuddled her. ‘You’re such a funny cat.’
Claire heard Loki walk into the room behind her. She turned around and let out a laugh. He was dressed as the grim reaper, so was wearing a large black cloak that shielded him completely. He had a skull mask on and of course he had a scythe in hand.
‘You look brilliant!’ Claire grinned at him.
Loki pulled the hood of the cloak down and flipped the mask up, his eyes were a bit darker as he eyed Claire up and down. ‘Wow, you are one damn sexy vampire.’ He purred.
The costume Claire had on did push her breasts up a bit and showed the figure of her waist nicely.
‘Glad you think so.’ Claire giggled. ‘It’s my turn tonight to be the one biting.’ She teased.
‘You can bite me any day.’ Loki growled and slid his arm around her to tug her in close to him.
Bat let out an annoyed meow at being squashed between them, since she was still in Claire’s arms. Loki laughed as Bat jumped down from Claire’s hold, letting Loki pull Claire in flush against him. He dipped his head down and kissed Claire deeply, moaning into her mouth.
‘Maybe we should just stay in and have our own Halloween party.’ He whispered over her lips.
‘And miss out on seeing David and Matt dressed as Ken and Barbie? Sorry, vampy. No amount of orgasms would make me want to miss that.’
During lunch the other day, David was looking for ideas for what to dress as for the party. Hannibal had said jokingly about doing a couple’s costume with Matt, since he was struggling for an idea too. Then Jessica dared them to go as Barbie and Ken. David wasn’t one to turn down a dare, so after some convincing, he managed to get Matt to agree. On the condition that Matt could be Ken, at least.
‘That’s very true.’ Loki laughed.
After feeding Bat, Claire and Loki headed to the school for the party. Claire was in awe, Jessica, Spencer and Hannibal did a brilliant job of decorating the hall for it. It was covered in Halloween decorations, there was a large table filled with various drinks and some snacks.
There was already a good amount of people there, plus they’d organised for a DJ to handle the music. Of course, playing as much spooky songs as possible.
Jessica and Spencer were already there, so Claire and Loki joined them after pouring themselves a drink.
‘Love your outfits!’ Loki chuckled. They were dressed as Gomez and Morticia Addams.
‘Thanks! You guys look great too.’ Jessica grinned widely.
‘It’s nice being the vampire for a change.’ Claire said teasingly.
The party started to get busier as more people arrived, because of everyone wearing masks it was obviously not easy to tell who everyone was. Though the vampires could tell, mostly by scent.
‘Do you think Chris will show up?’ Jessica asked Claire while they were dancing around.
‘I don’t know. If he does, might not be a bad thing since there’s so many people here. Though at the same time, I want Loki to enjoy himself tonight. So if he stays away, it might be for the better.’ Claire shrugged.
‘Makes sense.’ Jessica nodded.
Not far into the night, everyone began whistling, cheering and clapping as heads turned to see who had just entered. Claire almost doubled over with laughter when she saw David and Matt walk in.
David was kitted out like Barbie, wearing a pink dress with pink heels and he had a long blonde wig on. The bright pink lipstick was the icing on the cake. Matt wore a pink suit and also had a blonde wig, though short, he had some make-up on too, to try and make his cheekbones look sharp.
‘Nice legs, Barbie. Though could do with a shave.’ Loki teased David.
David just pulled a pose in response with his leg sticking out to the side.
‘I still don’t know how I got dragged into this.’ Matt sighed.
‘You’re looking great, Ken.’ Claire grinned at him.
‘I need a drink.’ He said in response.
‘Get me one too please, babes.’ David called to him in a girly tone. Matt looked over his shoulder and pinched the bridge of his nose when David made a kissy face at him.
‘Tonight is going to be a hoot.’ Claire said to Loki with a laugh.
She couldn’t tell what Loki’s face was like because of the mask and hood, but she knew he would be grinning.
Later into the night, Loki noticed some of the students that were there were whispering in groups and looking at their phones, but he didn’t take too much notice of it. There was also a point where people seemed to disappear, as the party wasn’t near as busy as it had been at the start.
Though he soon overheard one of the students speaking with another by the snack table.
‘Yeah, Chris told me not long ago.’ The student said.
Loki turned to said student. ‘You’ve seen Chris lately?’ He asked after flipping his mask up, so the student could see who it was.
‘Yeah, he was just outside about half an hour ago. He didn’t hang around for long though, went to get’ He wasn’t able to finish his story as Loki rushed off.
Loki was concerned, so went to look for Claire. He hadn’t seen her in a little while, but needed her to know that Chris was about and to be on alert.
‘David, Matt. Have any of you seen Claire?’ He asked them.
‘No, not since she was dancing with Jessica earlier.’ Matt responded.
‘Where’s Jessica?’ Loki asked.
‘Coming this way.’ David commented and nodded his head behind Loki.
Loki spun around and could tell by the look on her face that something was wrong. ‘Where’s Claire?’
Jessica frowned. ‘I don’t know. I thought she was with you.’
Loki was about to storm away to continue looking, but Jessica called to him. ‘Loki… wait.’ Though he kept walking until she continued. ‘There’s a hunt on tonight. Chris is back.’
Loki stopped dead, he felt his stomach sink as he turned around to face her. ‘What? A hunt?’
Jessica nodded. ‘The event is all over social media. It’s happening right now. The students are talking about it, a bunch of them have gone along. That’s why it’s gotten quieter here.’
Loki’s face turned pale white.
'What's wrong?' Jessica frowned.
‘Claire's missing.'

Laundry Day
Loki's POV of events: How Could This Not Fit?!
Bucky's spin-off fic: Loads of Fun (different Y/N character) - in progress
Pairing: Loki x female reader (ofc)
Summary: You and Loki are living together in the Avengers Tower and you've asked him to help you with the laundry. You decide it's the perfect opportunity to prank him but that might not have been a good idea... not if you wanted to sleep tonight that is.
Warnings: ... um nothing really, alluding to sex but not much
A/N: I finished my laundry and was folding (trying desperately to fold) my fitted sheet and I came up with this silly little thing so... enjoy 💚
Tumblr media
You take a bottle of water out of the fridge in the common kitchen, laughing to yourself as you shake your head.
"Something funny in the fridge?" Tony asks from the island, looking up from his tablet.
You turn to him and open the bottle. "No, I was just laughing about something that could possibly get me in a lot of trouble with Loki," you barely explain.
"I have no idea what that means," Steve says as he and Bucky join the conversation.
You take a sip of water and set the bottle on the island. "I was tired of being the one who did our laundry all the time so I told Loki he needed to help me with it today," you start to tell them.
"Still not seeing the funny," Tony says sarcastically.
"I'm getting there," you wave away his comment and he chuckles. "So anyway, I told him to help and he did... an okay job of it. I mean, the dryer and him got in a bit of a fight but we finally got it done," you continue.
"Did he break the dryer cause I've gotta do like four loads of laundry tonight?" Bucky asks concerned as he pulls out the stool next to Steve.
"How could you possibly have to do four loads of laundry?" Tony turns towards him. "You own one hoodie and three henleys at most," he adds.
"Can we get back to my problem?" you pull their attention back to yourself. "I might not have much time left," you joke but you aren't actually sure how long until Loki comes looking for you.
"What did you do to him?" Steve asks, sounding concerned for your safety. Loki would never hurt you of course, he loved you too much, but when you annoyed him you always found it hard to walk the next day.
"Well, he put all the laundry away using his magic but I told him that was cheating. He said it wasn't and we went back and forth for a bit until I made him a bet," you smile. Loki could never resist a wager, especially since he always assumed he would win, and he usually did. "I bet him... something," you suddenly realize you don't necessarily want the guys to know the dirty things you promised Loki and they all look away awkwardly for a moment as if they understood that.
"Right, whatever... so the bet was for him to make the bed himself, without his magic," you tell them.
"Look, I still don't like him very much but, give him a little credit. I think he's smart enough to figure it out," Bucky says.
"Yeah, that doesn't really seem like a bet you're going to win, Y/N," Steve agrees.
"Well... I might not have except for one teeny tiny little bitty detail," you assure them.
"Which is?" Tony asks with a mixture of curiosity and agitation that the story is taking so long.
"I switched the sheet set," you say, they all stare at you confused and you sigh. "I gave him a full size set... and we have a queen bed. There's not a chance in hell he's going to be able to get the fitted sheet on and if he does manage it, I'll know he used his magic and still win," you smile broadly, proud of yourself for tricking the trickster God.
"Well that's a dangerous game to play," Steve says and before you can respond you hear Loki coming down the hall.
"Y/N," he says when he enters the kitchen. You swallow as your mouth goes dry, he does not look happy. "You cheated," he says without question.
"No, I was just..." you try to explain but he walks towards you, keeping his eyes locked on yours.
"You... cheated," he says slowly as he backs you into the counter by the sink.
"I mean, only a little," you say with a smile but he doesn't smile back. "And I only did it to make sure you didn't use your magic," you quickly try to explain.
"Um, I think we should go... literally anywhere else," Steve says as Loki grips your waist with both hands and keeps you pressed between himself and the counter.
"Don't worry, we're leaving," Loki says with a smirk, still looking only at you. Without warning he picks you up and throws you over his shoulder. You gasp and the suddenness of it and he uses one arm to hold you in place by the back of your legs as he turns to leave the kitchen. He pauses and picks up your water bottle. "You'll need to keep hydrated, it's going to be a very long night, love," he says as he carries you down the hall towards your room.

You continue to stand observing the stars from afar, glimmering luminously before your eyes. Asgard has just been destroyed due to the events of Ragnarok and the people have lost their home — for now. They were currently heading towards Midgard via a spaceship to take refuge there. Midgardians were one of the lesser intelligent species across the nine realms, but they could be very welcoming at times. Maybe they could build a new life over there…
Footsteps begin to advance towards you from behind, causing you to snap out of your thoughts and turn toward the disruption, only to spot the God of Mishcief approaching you.
A surprised yet secretly pleased expression forms on your face at the sight of Loki. You hadn’t had a proper conversation with him ever since your… fight. About him faking his death twice and impersonating Odin for years and posing to be king and betraying all of Asgard and especially you.
Yeah. A fight was one way to put it.
“Loki,” you breathe softly.
Loki connects his emerald eyes with yours, seeming to be holding something back. He was never one to hesitate, you knew that. He was always so outspoken — you’ve never seen him so rattled like this.
“I… I’m sorry, and I love you,” he mumbles in a soft tone, breaking the eye contact.
Your eyes quickly shoot up towards his, surprised with his sudden burst of affection. Before you could even gather up the words to speak up, he interupts you.
“You don’t have to say anything or even forgive me, but… I realize that I haven't been the best partner to you, and for that I am.. sorry. You have only ever been good to me, and," he stops himself to gently grab your hands and pull you closer. "You deserve so much more. I promise to you that I will do better. If you will let me.”
He sighs deeply, finally maintaining the eye contact and taking a step towards you.
“I’ve missed you since the moment you walked away from me, and I deepy regret letting you go so easily. That will never happen again — I promise.”
After all these years, you are finally hearing the words you’ve been longing to hear from Loki — and then some. You always thought it was a farfetched fantasy, but for once, it actually feels as though he was willing to change. That this time might be different.
You’ve already made the same mistake — twice — forgiving him then only for him to repeat the same mistake and somehow make it worse than how it was before. But, that’s the thing. Even after all his lies, all the betrayals you have endured because of him…
You never once regretted forgiving him.
“The Loki Odinson, God of Mischief, owning up to his past? My, where have I been this whole time?”
Loki playfully rolls his eyes. “Don’t flatter yourself, darling.”
A soft yet meaningful smile curves on your lips as you take a moment to process the last word that he said.
“You haven’t called me that since our fight.”
“And you haven’t looked at me with those eyes ever since I faked my death.”
“With what eyes?” You raise an oblivious eyebrow, fully knowing what he was talking about.
Loki softly shakes his head at your teasing before you let out a light chuckle once more. You gaze upon the long-haired frost giant, biting your inner cheek as you watch Loki being vulnerable to you for the first time.
"Loki," you call out in a soft tone, one gentle hand snaking up to his shoulder. "I’m sorry too. I shouldn’t have let go of you so easily either. You were right — I was too quick to give up on us. But, never again. This time, we’ll try even harder to make things truly work. Agreed?”
A soft smile forms on his face — one that was sincere in a way that he never usually shows.
“Agreed.”
Before you could even react one more second, Loki cuts you off with an action that he only does once every blue moon. An action that neither of you can even recall when he last did it.
You feel gentle arms wrap you in a warm embrace. Being in his mere presence made you feel safe and at home — in a way that not even your physical home has ever made you feel. But being with him — reuniting with Loki once more — you knew, with the utmost confidence, that he was your true home. And there was no place you would rather be.

The silence in the cell was electrifyingly tense, and Loki wished he had something else to focus his attention on.
His jaw ached as he took another bite of the flavorless, perplexing bread that was both stale and damp at the same time. He should have been grateful for it and its distraction, despite the woman having offered it without even so much as looking at him. But it just reminded him of the year he’d spent with the Mad Titan: Wretched. Forsaken. Totally and completely hopeless.
Loki tried desperately not to think about it, but it was getting harder to fight as his exhaustion grew.
The woman sat across from him in the cell, her knees pulled to her chest and her expression blank. She’d said absolutely nothing after dismissing his question about Anathema the night prior, not even when the peculiar guards brought in their cruel attempt at a meal. She didn’t even flinch when they set the tray down in front of her, nor when the duo stared, cold and unmoving, presumably waiting for her to beg for her life like all the others…but she did wait until they were finally gone to pull the tray closer.
She had grabbed the chunk of bread first, and extended it towards him in the shadows like it was second-nature to her. As if it wasn’t ever an option that she wouldn’t share it, and despite the fact that they were in stark disagreement about their respective situations in this place.
He felt guilty for accepting the offering, but unfortunately, he felt like he had no other choice; his eyelids were growing heavier by the minute, his muscles were becoming weaker with each new day of disuse, and his nerves were perpetually fried with wary energy. He was constantly stifling another yawn, and was dangerously close to falling asleep, to having another nightmare again.
Loki didn’t know if he ever talked in his sleep, but he didn’t want to risk revealing any compromising information about himself or his past; the less anyone knew about him here, the better off they all were.
But other than the food she’d shared with him, there wasn’t much else for him to distract himself with. The woman wasn’t talking anymore, and her questions had faded away alongside the hope she may have once had about escaping. That left Loki to alone deal with his questions about her, and their inscrutable answers.
The problem with that, however, was that his mind was nothing but a tangled mess; a rat’s nest, made up of lies and false memories, the betrayals of the life he’d left behind, and all the lives that never were. Before him lay a scattering of dots, all seemingly unrelated and centered around a woman who claimed she didn’t know what they wanted with her, and he couldn’t seem to make heads or tails of any of it.
Loki used to pride himself on his ability to see the bigger picture, especially on a galactic scale. But he had come here to hide and to wallow, to purposely let his mind atrophy into a cobweb of nothingness, because that was easier than continue trying, and failing, to be happy. He felt comfortable doing that, and letting this become his legacy, because he hadn’t ever expected a riddle to fall into his lap again. He hadn’t ever expected her.
As Loki swallowed the last of the bread, he forced himself to look at her again. She was still huddled against the wall, illuminated by the dim lantern light from the hallway and shivering in the cold dungeon like a scared little child. He was flabbergasted that she was still here, that they’d bothered bringing her back after being caught during an escape attempt. And he couldn’t help but hate himself, because the old Loki could have figured out why that was a very long time ago.
Next to her, the bowl of porridge sat on the floor, mostly untouched and definitely not enjoyed. Her expression was sullen as she stared off into the distance, and her limbs were folded around herself as she retreated deeper inward. It almost made him feel…something.
Of what exactly, Loki wasn’t quite sure; the feeling was old and familiar, something that was long lost while never really being understood in the first place. He told himself that the feeling was irrelevant, because it was just the mystery he found equal parts infuriating and intriguing. He just needed a bit more time than usual to settle the question marks, and then he could finally return to the blissful void of apathy.
And maybe she wasn’t lying when she claimed to not know who Anathema was, but he didn’t believe for a moment that she had no idea why the guards were so interested in her. Either she had something of theirs, or she knew some mysterious piece of information they didn’t yet - but they were obviously willing to play the long game in order to acquire it, and that couldn’t have been for nothing.
Perhaps it had something to do with the gem dangling from her necklace. Loki had seen her touching it, frequently and absentmindedly, running her slender fingers over the deep blue stone during stressed and quiet moments like now. Clearly it meant a lot to her; someone who loved her had given it to her. Someone she loved back, someone she probably missed dearly…
As he started to wonder if anyone was out there looking for her, Loki realized he was staring and quickly averted his eyes. They landed once again upon the bowl of uneaten porridge next to her, and a new form of discomfort wove itself between the muscles of his shoulders and neck. It wrapped around his nerve-endings, stinging the open and frayed tendrils that had been worn bare from the pain of still being alive.
He was quite vulnerable existing like this, even though he knew she couldn’t see him hiding in the shadows. That she didn’t know what he was thinking, or where he was looking. That she was unaware of the fleeting relief that poured into his veins when she was brought back to the cell alive, or his shame at feeling anything that had immediately replaced it.
Loki had been flippant when she was initially brought in here. He was angry the first time she tried to share a meal with him. And then he was conflicted, at best, when she was dragged back in the second time. This paltry range of emotions was far more than he was previously used to; he felt like he was drowning in it, like it was slowly collapsing his airways and squeezing out every last ounce of oxygen from his lungs.
Because there was only one person on this planet who knew his name. A single individual, throughout all of space and time, knew where he was. She was the sole witness to his current existence, and he’d never felt more uncomfortable or on display than here and now. She had met him at his worst, in his ultimate moment of triumph when he’d finally been able to remove himself from any and all equations, from every problem that ever needed solving, and he absolutely hated that.
Loki thought he’d finally accounted for everything when he had stepped through the Time Door and into this dungeon. He thought he’d finally fixed the issue, himself, for literally everyone - and then this tiny little variable had shown up so unexpectedly to completely ruin it for him.
He should have been angrier about it. He should have been furious and seething and shaking with rage over this egregious betrayal of the universe. Being alone had been the whole point, keeping everyone safe from him had been his only intention, seeking protection from the pain of both betrayal and being betrayed was all that Loki had left. Why wasn’t he allowed that meager peace of mind?
Damnation clung to Loki like a frightened child clung to his mother’s skirts, trembling in the dark and begging for acknowledgement of its traumatized state. It lurked around every corner and it haunted every shadow, constantly weeping and whimpering and howling out its anguish to cruel and uncaring souls. It was always there, lingering in the corner of his eye, reminding him of just how helpless and useless he was. That he should just give up. That he should just end it already.
But sometimes, the damnation would transform into something far more sinister, into the tall, skulking form of a cerulean demon. Hanging over his shoulder and digging its claws into his neck, the demon would spit cruel maledictions into his ear. Didn’t Loki know that everyone around him was already doomed? Wouldn’t it be kinder to just kill them now, rather than waiting for him to ruin their life and then cruelly and inevitably take it from them?
Hiding in the dungeon was the only reasonable compromise between the frightened child and the viscous demon warring in his mind. If only he had stuck with that plan, if only he hadn’t revealed that someone else was alive in the cell with her, then maybe he wouldn’t be in this mess right now.
Regret, his oldest and only friend, wouldn’t be blaring its horn and sounding the alarm bells and crying out for solace. So why did it bother him so much now that she wasn’t eating?
Loki shifted uncomfortably on the stone floor, weighing the options in his mind. The regret of initially engaging with this woman didn’t mean he couldn’t change tactics; and if she wasn’t eating, then it wouldn’t be too much longer until he was on his own again. That had been his initial plan, and there was no reason he couldn’t return to that now. Wasn’t being alone all he ever wanted?
“You should finish your meal. There’s no telling how long it’ll be before they bring another…” The words felt like acid on Loki’s tongue, dripping down his throat to eat away at his insides. He hoped they had come out as bluntly as he’d intended, but in reality, it just sounded like something his mother would have said.
This time, the woman didn’t shudder when he finally broke the tense silence. She didn’t even react at all, other than to sigh heavily and respond in a low and flattened tone. “What’s the point…?”
“Well, clearly they’d prefer you to be alive, for whatever reason…” Loki’s jaw tensed as he paused, struggling to understand why he was even bothering. “Even if they bring food on an irregular basis, it’s still more than anyone else gets…”
“Maybe the only reason they want me alive is so they can continue mocking and hurting me.”
That was a more difficult point to contend with; perhaps the guards had just grown weary of the simple and mundane murders, and they’d decided to go with something more entertaining this time. What if there wasn’t a more complicated explanation for the guards' motivations? What if he was searching for logic that didn’t even exist?
Loki stifled another yawn as he leaned back against the stone wall, raking his fingers through tangled curls that were just as chaotic as his thoughts. There had to be something he was missing while attempting to put this puzzle together. “So what did the guards say when they caught you escaping?”
The woman let out a heavy exhale, and her tone shifted into a more sarcastic tone. “Oh, normal things like what are you doing out of your cell?, and no one’s coming to rescue you. Typical kidnapper things, you know…”
Loki couldn’t help but roll his eyes at her nonchalant answers, but what else was he expecting? He was beginning to wonder if it was even worth putting this much effort into avoiding sleep. Nothing else in his life prior to meeting her had been easy, so why was he expecting this to go smoothly?
“Actually, the guard did say something strange before knocking me out…” The woman trailed off, pausing as she furrowed her brow.
Loki cleared his throat as he looked towards her again. “Strange how?”
“Maxine - or Nulan, whichever one it was…They caught me upstairs in their private quarters. Just before attacking me, they said what is gone…may never return.” The woman pulled her lower lip between her teeth as she recalled the memory. “I’ve never heard it before, and I have no idea what it means…”
What is gone…may never return. Loki turned the phrase backward and forward in his mind, trying to find its place in this absolutely confounding puzzle. But he’d never heard anyone say anything even remotely close to it, so there was nowhere for it to go. The phrase’s sentiment, however, he understood perfectly well.
“It was probably just a threat, or a taunt…” she continued with a dismissive shake of her head. “They were just mocking me, for losing everything…”
“Or it’s a prayer. A desperate request, for some kind of reprieve…” Loki murmured in reply. He didn’t want to think about whether anyone had ever hoped for the same thing after he’d finally walked away, but he was positive that they had. And he hadn’t meant for his interpretation to sound so melancholy, but as his gaze caught the woman’s matching expression, he could feel her understanding of his meaning. Loki hated that.
She must have sensed that as well, because she quickly forced a false smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “No…surely they must have been talking about me losing my boots.”
Her smile faded just as quickly as it had appeared, shifting into a grimace as a violent shiver shuddered over the limbs she struggled to pull close enough. She breathed out a heavy sigh and lowered her forehead to her knees with another tremble, and for once, Loki was grateful for the Jotun physiology keeping him relatively comfortable. But the woman didn’t share the same luxury of such a curse, and she was clearly suffering in these dank and grim conditions.
Loki turned his attention towards his fingers, twitching and fidgeting restlessly in his lap. This particular guilt was both new and unwelcome, like the haunting of fresh ghosts he thought he’d finally manage to not brutally murder for once. It wasn’t directly his fault she was here, that she was suffering. She was a complete stranger, after all, and this couldn’t have been his problem, or his responsibility.
But as Loki lifted his gaze again, carefully moving his eyes to avoid looking upon her once more, he caught a glimpse of the woman’s forgotten boots in the shadows, the ones carelessly stripped away while the guards were searching her the night before.
He recalled one of the first lessons Odin had explained about ruling a kingdom, that sometimes tact and finesse were far more effective than blades or might. Perhaps if Loki was kind instead of harsh, and if he returned the boots to the frozen woman, then she might help alleviate the nagging questions he still had and allow him to fight off sleep for just a little bit longer.
His brow furrowed, and he swallowed hard as he realized this was the least he could do for the both of them. It wasn’t much, but it felt like chopping off a limb when he cleared his throat and forced himself to speak again. “Your, um…boots are in here. They might help you with the…cold.”
The woman’s head popped back up, and her eyes narrowed as she scanned for them in the darkness. “Where are they? I don’t - ” she replied, clumsily attempting to push herself upright, obviously eager to get them back on as soon as possible.
Loki felt an odd sense of duty, one that had been buried deep underneath the many eons of pain, and it compelled him to act before he had the chance to second-guess himself. He moved slowly, shifting his weight onto his hip, and extended his arm out. His fingers were just long enough to barely grasp the black leather pull loops, to drag them closer and then place them within her reach while maintaining a safe distance, and without the need for him to stand.
A faint smile crossed her lips as she stretched to pull them closer. “Thank you so much, Loki.”
He couldn’t bring himself to make eye contact anymore; it was hard enough to listen to the bewildered gratitude in her voice. His every movement had stayed within the safe confines of the shadows, and he imagined that she saw her boots reappearing as if from the loving aid of a benevolent god, of someone else who was capable of caring.
“It was nothing,” he told them both.
He had fully intended to return his attention back inward, but he found himself distracted by the woman as she shifted on the floor. Curling and stretching her limbs, gracelessly attempting to pull a boot back on with a single hand, and then reluctantly, with both hands. She let out a gasping whimper as she tried to extend out her left arm, and Loki noticed her fingers trembling as she tried to push through the pain.
Obligation flared along his spine again, but this time, Loki questioned it. A childhood memory surfaced, of when his father would return home from war, bruised and exhausted and weary, and Loki would rush to his side, eager to help with removing his armor and assist in any way he could. He thought maybe if he proved himself useful, eager and determined, like his older brother was, then Odin might finally give him a chance to fight alongside him.
But even though his seidr had been well-advanced for his age, his father had always refused to bring Loki along, despite never leaving home without Thor. Odin had said that Loki wasn’t ready yet, that he wasn’t strong enough, that it was too dangerous for a little boy to be out on the field and surrounded by their mortal enemies.
“Such a young prince falling into the hands of Asgard’s opponents could prove disastrous to the realms,” his father had said, even though that fear had never stopped him from bringing Thor into battle. It wasn’t until much later that Loki realized the truth, that the only real use he had wasn’t needed back then - not until the direst of circumstances forced his father’s ultimate and final hand.
The woman let out a sharp groan, bringing Loki back to the present. She had collapsed back against the wall, sniffling and brushing the messy strands of crimson hair away from her face. “Loki, I’m so sorry…but can you please…?”
His eyes widened, and hers were full of tears. Her cheeks reddened, and her lower lip trembled as she spoke with a cracked voice. “Please help me? I’m so cold, and I can’t…I can’t get these back on…”
It wasn’t like the cold, calculating demands he was previously used to, and Loki realized that it pained her to ask like this. She wasn’t trying to get anything out of him, she wasn’t manipulating her way into something more than she deserved, or trying to get him to commit atrocities in her name.
It wasn’t a game or a trick designed to be laughed at later with her friends; she genuinely just needed his help. But the problem was that this kind of assistance not only required him to vacate the shadows, to come closer and share the same air as her - it necessitated physical touch. Loki was sure he couldn’t handle that.
The muscles in his fingers articulated of their own accord, separating and curling into just the right place to summon and concentrate his seidr, intent on disassembling the atoms that made up the woman’s boots and reassembling them back where they belonged.
A suitable compromise, Loki believed, except that absolutely nothing happened. The warmth that normally accompanied his magic was nowhere to be found, that familiar connection to the past and the present, to his mother, wasn’t opening its loving arms to welcome him back home - and that was when he finally remembered.
Loki’s seidr was dead, because he was supposed to be dead.
He’d forsaken his magic as soon as he’d arrived here. Once he willingly stepped through the Time Door and into this dungeon, once he’d realized that the first thing this newly-freed universe had done was trap him yet again, he decided that this time it was really meant to be.
So he didn’t bother fighting it, and he willingly let go of the tendrils of seidr he had once clung so tightly to. He didn’t deserve the honor of wielding it, not after what he’d done in New York. And what use would that magic have been to the hollowed-out shell of a person he was now? What good could he have possibly done with it anyway?
“Loki?”
Once again, the woman’s quiet voice refocused his attention. Her expression had fallen even further during his silent brooding, and she was staring woefully into the dark, desperately hoping to see him finally coming to her aid. A deep sense of dread rose up within his chest, thick and impenetrable, oozing between his ribs to singe and suffocate his lungs like molten lava.
Loki didn’t know what to do, and yet, he moved anyway. Pressing his palms flat against the stone floor, he bent his knees and carefully pushed himself upright. His joints cracked and popped, his muscles were stiff and sluggish as he slid one foot forward, and the belt around his waist was far looser than when he’d initially put it on.
Taking another step closer, his mind suddenly dizzied, and his body began to sway dangerously from the juxtaposition of pushing himself forward while he’d been wasting away. He quickly grabbed onto the wall with a sharp gasp, trying to steady himself as his legs tingled themselves awake.
“Loki…are you alright?” the woman murmured, her brow furrowing with concern.
“I’m fine, it’s just - ” Loki sighed heavily, his heart pounding and muscles trembling. “I’m just not used to…standing.”
Loki closed his eyes and leaned against the wall for a moment, willing his body back into operating under his own control. But despite his best efforts, weariness and exhaustion were still permanently at the helm, relentlessly steering him back towards collapsing and passing out again.
“It’s alright. Take your time…”
Loki’s eyes snapped back open, painfully aware that she was still watching him closely, and he did everything he could to both avoid her gaze and her reassurance. Nothing about this was alright, and he could hear his father’s chastising voice from beyond the stars, criticizing him for allowing enervation to consume him - even though that was the only way to keep himself out of trouble.
His eyes flitted across the dungeon cell, feverishly taking in the stone walls and steel bars of the door, then out to the flickering lantern light of the hallway. Loki had never even bothered to take a good look at his coffin before committing to staying in it for all eternity, but from this elevation, he could clearly examine the cuts that made up the large slabs of the walls and floor. Meticulous, flawless, precise - too perfect to have been sliced by hand.
His gaze moved to the cream-colored candlestick suspended within the single lantern in the hallway, evenly melted away and without a single speck of soot upon the glass encasing it. From there, he could make out the grooves carved by the steel bars into the doorway’s arch as it swung open and closed, and the streaked and dark stains, smudged against the grayed and leadened floor, leading from the hallway back into their cell.
The woman’s blood, he assumed, and Loki’s hands clenched into fists. His throat tightened, and the slightest hint of outrage began to reluctantly wake from its slumber.
Forcing the feeling away, Loki finally closed the distance and carefully crouched in front of the woman; only then did he let her be the focus of his attention. Loose and uneven strands of crimson had been pulled free from the long, disheveled braid nestled untidily over her shoulder;her skin was wan and pallid, and her lips were tinted with the faintest hint of blue.
Dried blood had smeared on her ear, her neck, the lengths of her hair and along her cheek. It was everywhere, mixed with the dirt and muck from the floor, coating the corners of her cracked lips and the freckles that dotted her cheekbone. The fact that the blood was dried, meaning the original wound was at the very least no longer actively bleeding, did nothing to make him feel better.
Loki lowered one knee down to the floor, precariously settling his weight onto one ankle, and the woman’s attention was now entirely fixed on her boots. She swallowed nervously, and Loki silently agreed with the sentiment. How long had it been since he’d touched another person? Did he even remember how to be gentle? How to not contaminate?
Moving cautiously, he took a boot into his grasp, threading his fingers between the loops and slowly pulling to loosen its laces. While he worked, he focused on the soft leather: its scent was herbal, earthy, and with just the barest suggestion of sweetness. Intricate designs, swirls and constellations and rays of light emanating from an overly-stylized sun were stitched into the leather, extending from the collar and flowing down way past the ankle.
Soft, pliable and shiny, the leather still showed signs of its latest polish, applied with a healthy dose of high-quality wax, from underneath the layers of grim. The boots had been methodically cared for, regularly and recently, and probably not too long before the woman found herself in custody of the mysterious guards. Loki found himself curious about the circumstances of her capture.
Stained in the same shade of night as the leathers covering her legs, they blended seamlessly together with the rest of her clothing, from the thin stockings on her feet to the chipped lacquer on her fingernails. Everything was the exact same color, save for the thin, flowing emerald tunic that had long since come untucked, and the gem that hung from her neck.
And everything she wore was undoubtedly expensive, most likely customized for this particular owner, and she had obviously not dressed for being locked inside a damp and grimy dungeon. At best, she was prepared for a pleasant walk through the woods on a mildly chilly evening; Loki tried not to think about it too much.
Out of his peripheral vision, Loki could see the woman stealing glances up at him. She watched him carefully, her sea green eyes shifting cautiously between his face, his hands, and the boot he was unlacing - obviously examining and judging the hideous monster whose help she had no choice but to accept.
Loki began to feel self-conscious. There was no doubt that his own appearance wasn’t any better than her own at the moment; in fact, he was sure it was much, much worse. Dark and unkempt curls hung way past his shoulders like sinister snakes. The skin on his hands was sullen and pallor, shifting dangerously close to bluish gray, and he had no idea if his eyes had begun to drift back into their original shade of ruby-red or not. He promised himself that this would be the only time she ever saw his face up close.
When he could no longer justify stalling with the laces, he cleared his throat, and forced his fingers to tap the underside of her leg; a featherlight touch that could have been easily missed if one hadn’t been expecting it. But the woman again mercifully sensed his meaning, and she positioned the appropriate foot for him to slide the boot on.
Too well, Loki noticed, as he pulled the collar up to settle around her calf; she was exceptionally practiced at having others put footwear on her - at tensing the right muscles at just the right moment, and extending the leg with just enough force to seat the foot comfortably against the insole.
“Sorry about this…” she mumbled as Loki pulled the laces tight and began looping them back and forth around the hooks. “Although, this is probably the most exciting thing you’ve done in a while, huh?”
She was trying to lighten the mood, to distract from the previous awkwardness of such close quarters. Loki’s response was flat and measured, his attention focused on tying instead of talking. “Like I said - it’s nothing.”
A nervous silence followed, one that was far more uncomfortable than the awkwardness. Loki hadn’t meant to be so dismissive, and perhaps he’d been far too frigid for someone who was supposed to be helping her. When he finished the final loop, he cleared his throat again and forced himself to look up again.
“Is that…too tight for you?” he murmured softly.
The woman managed a weak smile as she flexed her ankle. “No. It feels fine.”
Loki noted that her pupils dilated ever so slightly when she met his gaze, and he took that as a good sign that her head injury wasn’t a completely serious one. He wasn’t sure why he was noting that, but nonetheless, he had, and he didn’t have the energy to start questioning it. Instead, he busied himself with picking up the other boot and threading his fingers underneath its laces like he’d done with the first.
“Is this all I have left? Just waiting in this cell to die?”
Her voice had taken on a somber, more sorrowful tone now; apparently open anguish was much easier for her than polite small-talk, and if she hadn’t been so exhausted, Loki would have guessed there would have been more than a tear or two accompanying her questions. He wasn’t sure how to answer her; bringing up the fact that the other prisoners before her had never lasted more than a day or two, or the fact that they were never returned once removed from their cells, probably wasn’t going to help her mood very much.
“At least they’re leaving you alone for the most part,” Loki answered, lightly tapping his fingers underneath her other leg for the placement of its boot. “Be thankful for relative peace.”
The woman sighed heavily as she cooperated. “Relative peace. That’s all I have to look forward to?”
“For some, that’s all they’ve ever wanted,” Loki said absentmindedly. “They’d kill for it, and others willingly die in its pursuit…”
The woman’s eyebrows raised in troubled concern, and Loki tried to ignore it. He couldn’t understand why he was like this, either speaking too familiarly with the woman, or far too flippantly. He was out of practice when it came to any sort of normal conversation, but he didn’t want to be accustomed to it again. In the end, she was just a temporary distraction, and he wasn’t supposed to even exist at all.
“That’s very enlightened, coming from someone who has nightmares every time he closes his eyes…” the woman replied as he finished tying the laces on the other boot. She flexed that ankle, and then nodded her approval while pulling her knees back against her chest.
Loki’s brow furrowed as he met her gaze once more. Her eyes were wide and open, appearing to be without a single shred of judgment, only empathy. Loki couldn’t help but scrutinize her for that. If she only knew how little he deserved kindness, and he was irritated that she’d noticed how bad his nightmares were at all. He’d rather have not known that his weakness was on complete display, and thus, beyond his complete control.
Slowly pushing himself back up to standing, grateful that the task and its requisite close proximity were finally over, Loki’s fingertips trailed along the cold stone as he backed into the shadows again. But lethargy was creeping back in, along with the ever-present unsettled and restless energy, and when Loki returned to sitting, he wasn’t quite as far into the dark as he had been before.
“You know, it may help your nightmares to talk about them,” the woman suggested cautiously. “Perhaps unburdening yourself a little would be a good thing…”
Loki grimaced. Of all the ways she could have worded it, he wished it hadn’t been in that specific way. As it were, various burdens of all sorts were already going to haunt him until the end of time, it seemed, and he preferred not to be reminded of the purposes initially set upon him by Thanos. And even if he wanted to, where should he begin?
He still didn’t quite understand what exactly had happened to him on Knowhere; that entire year was just a chaotic haze of torture and manipulation, through both physical and psychological means, and it was impossible for him to decipher what was real and what was a lie. Even now, he couldn’t even recall the exact circumstances that led to his descent from the Bifrost and into Thanos’ control.
Sometimes, he could clearly remember the decision to let go of Gungnir and fall into the abyss; other times, he was absolutely convinced that his brother had pushed him in a jealous rage, furious that Loki’s short tenure as King had proved far more successful than any longer one Thor could have ever managed.
Either way, the fall had resulted in him becoming Thanos’ prisoner, and then later, as a member of the Black Order - but only after they’d finally conceded that physical torture was never going to work on the body of a Frost Giant, on an Asgardian prince raised as a warrior, or on a powerful sorcerer who already had extremely complicated feelings about being alive in the first place.
But once they realized that he just wanted somewhere to belong, they finally started to see real progress, and the emotional manipulation that followed was probably more effective than they could have ever hoped for. It was so very easy to muddy the rough waters of Loki’s psyche thanks to the Chitauri Scepter and his tremendous heartbreak - a kind word here, a clever lie there, and nothing but speeches about revenge and betrayals, destinies and purposes, salvation and redemption, and scorned Kings and their disgraced sons.
After Loki had been welcomed into the fold, Thanos explained his need for the Tesseract; if Loki acquired it, then he would be granted an army to help take Midgard by as excessive and violent force as he deemed necessary. The God of Mischief already knew that he wanted to be as destructive as possible - to both completely cripple his brother’s fondness for the pathetic humans, and to show Odin that he would settle for being a terrifying leader if he wasn’t permitted to be a good one.
His idea for retrieving the Tesseract had been a clever one; so clever that Loki wasn’t surprised that Thanos or the Black Order hadn’t ever considered it before. But getting to suggest it meant that his new Master was immediately pleased with his usefulness, something that had rarely happened with his previous keeper, and Loki was so grateful for the opportunity to satisfy.
Out of the six Infinity Stones, the Space Stone was unique in that it could generate massive amounts of self-sustaining energy. Its power signature was incredibly easy to track, and it didn’t take long for Loki to determine the Tesseract’s location inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. research facility. Under Fury’s careful and watchful eye, the mortals were studying its capabilities for power production, no doubt to be used in some kind of advanced weapons manufacture instead of something that could actually be used to help mankind.
A stereotypically short-sighted action, one that would soon be their downfall, because none of those weapons would ever be able to stop him from completing his task. Had they realized the stone’s true potential, as Loki had, then perhaps the humans might have fared better during his invasion.
Because he knew something that apparently no one else did, something he now prayed that no one else would ever be able to figure out. Loki was in the unusual position of understanding exactly how the Bifrost had operated, of how it could easily send and receive anything from across the galaxies with frightening and pinpoint accuracy. As a child, he was fascinated by the Bifrost, and more than once Heimdall had to stop him from attempting to disassemble it while searching for the details of its inner workings.
Once informed of her son’s unyielding curiosities, his mother had patiently redirected that energy towards Asgard’s massive libraries. There, he spent many late nights pouring over the texts and histories of the magnificent Bifrost. Once he’d devoured all he could from words, he then spent his time exploring the Realm and looking for means of travel that didn’t involve going to the Bifrost at all.
And thanks to the Mad Titan’s relentless and universal conquest in search of the stones, Loki had access to incalculable amounts of lore, research and history that had been stolen from countless cultures and societies. He spent months buried in books and manuscripts, performing calculations and practicing his seidr, searching desperately for the perfect combination of science and magic to get him what he needed.
All of that, when combined with his extensive knowledge of the Bifrost, allowed Loki to realize that all he needed was a power-source. It must have been fate and its impeccable sense of humor, because the Space Stone could be the engine, and the Tesseract was going to be the gateway - a terrible, incredible bridge between where you were, and where you desperately wanted to be.
For Loki, the Tesseract was going to deliver him to vengeance, respect, authority and glory - in a way that no one would be able to undo once he finally got it. His brother, his father, the entire Nine Realms and beyond, all of them would be powerless to stop him once he figured out how to open the Tesseract’s portal from the other side.
Returning to his research with a new sense of delirium, he gave up on sleep, and food, and his sanity while he searched for the answer. His cheeks became hollow, his eyes were sunken deep into his skull, and his skin grew weak and frail. His nerves were on the verge of total disintegration, his heart ached and his mind was hazy.
His every waking thought was consumed by the Tesseract, and on the rare occasion that he actually passed out, so were his nightmares. He became too lost to even carry on a conversation; all he could manage were grunts and groans and strange approximations of the word “Tesseract”. Every part of himself, anything that had once been Loki, had all but slipped away.
But occasionally, Loki would come back to himself. He would look down at his hands in horror, and he wouldn’t understand where he was or how he got there. While screaming and lashing out, the one called Ebony Maw would preach about balance, about salvation and judgment and how Loki was destined to assist the Great Titan in saving all of life, by ending half of it. He was instructed to be grateful for being allowed to take part in it.
But it didn’t make any sense, and Loki tried so hard to resist, to fight them off, to scramble to the exit and free himself, to warn someone of the terrible thing that was coming. Then, something would happen, something would touch him, and his mind would cloud back over with rage and madness. The dangerous craving for the Tesseract would return tenfold, and then he would be back on task, more eager than ever to please.
After a quick journey through the minds of the men known as Selvig and Barton, Loki finally had everything he needed to complete his sacred mission. The astrophysicist filled in the last remaining gaps about the Tesseract’s functionalities, and the archer revealed information about S.H.I.E.L.D.'s security protocols - how many personnel were on site, what types of weapons they had, where they’d been trained. The details of every file stored on their secret servers, every individual’s personal histories - including that of the beings once considered to join the so-called Avengers, the ones that might be called upon to stop him.
On his first attempt, Loki succeeded in opening the Tesseract’s portal. One moment, he was standing on Thanos’ ship, and the next, he was inside the research facility, shrouded within a haze of smoke and mania. By the third second, he was ferociously attacking, moving and acting without consideration for the stealth or secrecy he’d been trained with as a child. He didn’t even bother dodging the humans’ pathetic projectiles; instead, he focused on murdering the ones he had already deemed useless to his cause, and using the Sceptre to convert the ones that were worthy of it
Nor did he bother mincing words with Fury as the Director stalled for time, not even the ones ripped directly from Ebony Maw’s impassioned and self-important speeches. Loki already knew how unstable the gateway was, and that was by design. During his maniacal studies, he had determined how best to sustain the portal’s opening for safe and easy passage - first, in order to allow entry for the Chitauri forces, and then to facilitate easy travel for Thanos to find the rest of the stones later on.
Loki’s first act of murder had been intentionally not stabilizing the portal as it opened inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility; he had wanted the structure to collapse in a stunning display of destruction. Whether it was to be an ominous warning for what he was about to do, or if it was to serve as a call to action for the only ones who could have prevented him from succeeding, he still wasn’t quite sure.
Either way, he ultimately failed in the only way that had mattered. Loki didn’t achieve vengeance or respect or authority, and there was no victory or glory waiting for him after it was over. The Chitauri Forces were destroyed, the Tesseract was not handed over to Thanos per their agreement, and he’d made a great many vicious and unforgiving enemies that day.
In the end, the only thing waiting for him was a prison cell on Asgard, and all he’d managed to do was to make everything worse.
And presumably, after it was over, Thanos still had access to all of Loki’s research. Losing out on the Tesseract would have infuriated him and the Black Order; a minor inconvenience, sure, but it wouldn’t have hindered their quest in the slightest. Thanos still knew how to use the Tesseract because of him - and more importantly, he understood how to use it in the most destructive way possible. That was completely and entirely Loki’s fault, and he just hoped that Thanos was arrogant enough to keep that information to himself, that no one else would try and fail in the same catastrophic way that Loki had.
Maybe the Tesseract wasn’t meant to be used as a gateway, and in doing so, Loki had ensured that he’d never get what he wanted, and that he’d lose what little he had left. All of that madness and frantic chaos and deliberate carnage had been for absolutely nothing. Maybe the Tesseract was cursed, and maybe, so was he.
Because every single time Loki had come into contact with it, his life had taken a drastic and even more devastating turn for the worse. Attempting to acquire it for Thanos had broken him - mind, body, and soul; fleeing New York with it had landed him in the clutches of the TVA; and apparently, it had been his ultimate destiny to die while trying to keep it from the Mad Titan.
The absolute last thing Loki ever wanted was to be reminded of the Tesseract - more than he wanted silence, or solitude, or to rot. And now this woman wanted to know what his nightmares were about?
Even if he had made it to the prison cell on Asgard, he wasn’t planning to explain himself to anyone. What was he supposed to tell his brother, his mother, his father? That he’d been deceived? Were they going to believe that he’d fallen for someone else’s lies so easily, and without question? That the God of Mischief himself had been tricked, played for a fool and made to be the universe’s largest and most pathetic scapegoat?
No, trying to justify his actions would be a grave disservice to the innocent lives he’d taken, and telling the truth was next to impossible. Even just talking about the betrayal of his family would be too much for him to bear, and that was the only aspect of the entire thing that Loki had never, ever second-guessed.
The woman continued stealing glances in his direction, from just a few feet away now. Still waiting for him to say something, anything, to help keep her mind distracted from her own plights. For the briefest of moments, he actually considered asking if she’d ever heard of the Tesseract, or the Infinity Stones. If she knew who Thanos was, if he’d ever been to this planet before…but as Loki fidgeted with his tie, running his fingers over the frayed and broken seams in the cloth, he knew the answer didn’t matter.
The appropriate time to have asked that question would have been when he’d first arrived, back when the TemPad still had the power to take him some place else if need be. But now the TemPad was dead; he was trapped here, and the longer he could go without hearing about the Tesseract, the better. The longer he could go on in the blissful ignorance of relative peace, and without talking about himself, the easier this would be for everyone.
“How did you wind up here anyway?” He winced as he spoke, hating himself for being more than a little curious about it. “I can’t imagine the guards asking you to come along nicely…”
The woman hesitated for a moment, no doubt replaying the events in her mind and wishing she had done something differently. Her fingers grasped the gem that hung from her neck, and she swallowed hard. “I was…taken from Tessaway, my home, in the middle of the night.”
She paused, her eyes focused on something non-existent in the distance. “I don’t know how they made it past the sentries, but they…managed, somehow. They took me from my bed, while I slept…”
Loki shook his head, trying to appear sympathetic. “You lived in a heavily guarded city. It must be a very dangerous place…”
“Tessaway isn’t a city,” she corrected, furrowing her brow as she looked over at him. “It’s the castle in Fayrest. You know, the capital city…?”
He didn’t know any of that, of course, having never left this cell. The woman looked like she wanted to say more but was afraid to, and he couldn’t help but think about why she had seemed to imply before that no one was going to rescue her. “Wouldn’t someone from the castle have noticed your absence? Surely they have to be looking for you by now…”
“No…” The woman shifted uncomfortably in place, her expression broken and forlorn. “No, I was just a servant. No one important enough to miss…”
Loki had been studying her carefully ever since he’d realized her captors were going to keep her alive for much longer than they had the others. Her movements were elegant and refined, her clothing and jewelry expensive and customized, her speech graceful and enchanting; the kind of charming that could only come from years of practice. He didn’t believe for a second that she was just a servant working in a castle.
But she was also clearly in a tremendous amount of pain, and for whatever reason, was keeping the origins of her birth a secret. Loki wondered what might have happened to him if he had been given that luxury, if he hadn’t been the only one to not know the truth about himself.
“Ah, a servant,” he replied, trying to lighten the mood a little. His unpracticed lips curved into a forced and lazy grin. “That certainly explains why you’re so concerned about my well-being…”
The woman’s eyebrows raised in amusement, and she tilted her head curiously as if taking his comment as a challenge. “What’s the matter? Are you not used to someone worrying about your well-being?”
Loki’s jaw tensed; perhaps he hadn’t been behaving as opaquely as he hoped, and he hated that she could see through him just as well as he could through her. He glanced over, and decided to provoke her right back. “Well, I’m sure they’ll miss you at the castle eventually. Like when there’s pots that need washing, or linens that need changing?”
“Yes, yes, that’s very funny…” she replied, rolling her eyes. “I get it, the thing about servants is that no one knows your name until something you normally do suddenly isn’t being done anymore…”
The woman turned, and she met his gaze with a considering and dissecting one of her own. “Like you - you don’t need anything from me, so why would you ever bother learning my name?”
From just a few feet away, the woman stared deep into his soul, tugging at the strings that still held him upright and all but questioning if they were even necessary. He waited until she looked away to furrow his brow again, because while she was right about him not needing anything from her, she was surely mistaken about the other half of her point.
Because he did actually know her name; it was the first new name he’d learned in such a very long time, and he thought it suited her quite well, all things considered. But he had been trying to avoid acknowledging it, not wanting it to mean something more than what it was.
It was just a name, after all; a series of specific vocalizations designed to get her attention. Saying it out loud didn’t mean that they were friends, or that they were even important to each other. It wouldn’t bind them in any way, or obligate him to care. But if that were true, then why did he have such a problem with saying it?
Loki could feel a nervous energy creeping relentlessly up his spine again. He wished it would stop receding, that it would stay put, because the constant shifting between relaxing and stressing was completely wearing him out. He told himself he just needed to say it out loud and get it over with, before he could start second-guessing and talk himself out of it again - especially now that she had noticed his careful avoidance of her name.
“What kind of servant knows how to fight with a staff anyway?” Loki asked, affecting an innocent and casual tone. “I guess servants named Oliviette do…”
After he answered his own question, Loki looked towards her again, and Oliviette was already smiling back at him; it was a bleary and quiet acknowledgement, but the sentiment was definitely noteworthy. For the first time since they’d met, he could see the dimples in her cheeks, and it was impossible to miss the way her eyes lit up with mirth, or how her lips pursed before she finally responded.
“What? Am I not allowed to have hobbies outside of work?”
Loki struggled to not return her smile. He almost felt a sense of appreciation for her snark and the much-needed diversion from the constant aching in his chest. It was only then that he remembered that this was supposed to be a temporary distraction; he couldn’t afford to spend needless energy that didn’t directly involve finding out why the guards were keeping Oliviette alive for this long.
Keeping a safe distance was paramount, his new glorious purpose. Trust was for children and dogs, wasn’t that how he’d put it to Mobius during their first meeting? As long as he stayed here, keeping himself isolated and protected, then he couldn’t ever be tricked into being someone else’s attack dog ever again. He couldn’t ever hurt anyone again.
Besides, it was highly implausible that her life would end in any way other than tragically. Loki’d already had quite enough of that - and would it be worth getting close to her, even if it didn’t?

Tumblr media
You are one of the acclaimed healers for the Royal Family in Asgard, a feat for someone your age. Most healers you work with were as old as Odin themselves yet you were just a bit younger than Princes Thor and Loki. Your penchant for herbology and healing magic earned Frigga's favor and Loki's attention - both being respective powerful magic welders in the realm.
You were wrapping up a day's work in your own personal greenhouse, you were immersed in the silence of the night, only hearing the sounds of nature - just how you preferred it. You were organizing the manuscripts and tomes for various potions that you were developing that was sprawling on top of the immense oak table when you hear approaching footsteps. Long, light strides crunching the leaves underneath. You peeked and saw a familiar face - Prince Loki. His chiseled face was illuminated by the moon and looking all regal in his emerald, and gold Asgardian garb.
"It's already midnight. Has mother been overworking you again yn?" the prince inquired as he draws closer to you.
"Good evening, Loki. Fortunately not, I was about to retire for the night. What brings you here tonight? You don't seem to look injured for you to need my healing power" you responded as you organized the last tome back into the shelf.
" oh but I ache, the pain rippling throughout my body like bursts of electricity, my core burning with a strong desire waiting to be quenched" he teasingly cooed in your ear, only to receive a naive response.
"Norns, that doesn't sound good, I'll prepare a potion to make you feel better" you gestured for him to sit on the wooden chair, feigning ignorance about what he just said. A blush crept up on your face but you looked away so Loki wouldn't notice.
"You know that's not what I meant yn" he said sternly.
You sighed, you were trying so hard to curb your growing desire for Loki, and him doing this isn't helping your case at all. You love how passionate he is about magic and every time he visits you would just talk about it. But this visit has a deeper meaning than the previous ones.
Did he perhaps like you too? "Tell me, what is it then that you desire?" you wanted clarity - knowing full well he wanted more than just your herbs and potions.
He drew in, his warm hand grabbing you by the waist to pull you closer. You can feel his warm breath as he nuzzles on the crook of your neck making your legs feel like jelly and you start to pool with arousal "I want to claim you - I can't fight this feeling for you any longer. I want you to be mine and mine only.. tonight and forever. Please tell me you want it too"
You tried to process what just happened but your mind had started feeling hazy from arousal, you knew you want it as much as he does, "yes - I want this and I want you"
He crashed his lips to yours in a slow and sensual kiss, tongues intertwining in a sweet dance. His hands roam to undress you without breaking the kiss and you fiddle to unbuckle his belt too. Your clothes drop by your ankle as Loki admires your supple body, glistening in the flickering light of the lanterns. You did free his cock as well, springing out of the tight confines of his trousers and towering angrily towards his belly. You were in awe of this sight and wondered if this could ever fit you.
You kissed again, now his hands roaming around your body, groping both breasts and occasionally flicking your nipples - making you groan. He lifts you up so you sit on the oak table, your legs spreading to show a wet cunt waiting to be filled. He started stroking his cock as he looked at you with his lust-filled eyes.
You started touching yourself as well, lifting a leg up the table as you drew lazy circles on your clit, making you moan in pleasure. Loki can't help himself, he rushes to grip your inner thighs, lifting and spreading both of your legs on the table now and sinking deep into your throbbing wetness. He hungrily devours you, his nose brushing on your engorged nub as he licks and sucks you. Occasionally he darts his tongue inside you.
He then proceeds to wet his digits and carefully burrows them inside you. You bucked your hips and gyrate to match the tempo as he thrust his fingers inside you. His pace quickened as you felt your walls clenching him tightly, you threw your head back as you orgasmed, flooding his fingers. He licked his finger clean from your sweet nectar as he does with your pussy too. Your whole body shuddered.
He moved between your thighs to position himself, moving your butt slightly on the edge. His cock twitched as he guided it to your folds. He teasingly drew a strip across before slowly burrowing the tip inside. You gasped at his girth as he continue to slowly inch inside you until he was balls deep. He felt your wet walls clamping down on him and you dug your nails deep into his back. The pain and the pleasure urged him to take it slowly. He thrust slowly out, only leaving the tip inside before thrusting in again. He started picking up the pace and releasing a feral grunt every time he pushes himself deeper. You responded by moaning his name over and over as he crashes into your sweet spot. The dirty squelching your bodies produce were like an aphrodisiac to your ears. Your toe fingers curled as you slowly ascend to climax.
"Loki... I... I'm about to..." You mustered in between breaths, tears forming on the corners of your eyes
"Cum for me, darling.. let it out." He shakily responded.
You arched your back and pulled him closer as you had your sweet release, flooding Loki's cock inside you.
"I'm cumming to yn... Oh fuck"
It was the last thing you heard before you felt his warm seed spilling inside you. He pulled out and slumped on a chair behind him as he marvels at the mess you both made - your legs still spreading as your pussy drips from your combined cum unto the table, and spilling unto the floor. You lie there exhausted as Loki groggily stands up to help prop you up.
"you did amazing, darling. Far better than all the nights I spent fantasizing about you. I love you" he whispered as he plants small kisses on your forehead.
" I love you too..." You trailed off as you started rubbing your legs together.
"my darling, you're still horny, aren't you? Oh dear, we need to fix that" he teased.
"It was just too good!" You shyly responded, pursing your lips.
"I guess we will be having the greenhouse all to ourselves tonight. You might need your stamina potions, darling" he quips as he takes you in for another kiss before pulling down the table and flipping you over so he could take you from behind this time.

When Steve first made the announcement, at the end of a mission debrief, Theo swore he was joking.
The idea of the Avengers making a point to celebrate Christmas seemed a bit strange - beyond the fact that there were two Norse Gods on the team, it seemed presumptuous to assume everyone else was Christian.
Theo’s feelings about the winter holidays were, at best, ambivalent. Sure, she liked the holiday lights, and she was a sucker for a good holiday song. She enjoyed showering her niece, Katie, with presents - after all, what kind of auntie would Theo be if she didn’t absolutely spoil her niece? And any time Theo could visit Mémère for longer than an hour or two was a blessing in its own right.
But the holidays also reminded her of the family she lost, and being the single friend at every holiday party got tiring (especially when her well-intended friends kept trying to set Theo up with people that Theo had absolutely no interest in). It had reached a point that Theo often volunteered to work the holiday shifts, as chaotic as they were, just so she had the excuse to avoid awkward gatherings.
However, when the other Avengers lit up like the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree at the announcement of the Secret Santa gift exchange, Theo kept her mouth shut. She was still relatively new to the team, and it wasn’t the first time she had been subjected to workplace celebrations for holidays she didn’t celebrate.
But of course, this was a group of superheroes celebrating, so it wasn’t a basic Secret Santa; no, of course not, because nothing about them was basic. It was five days of secret Santa.
At least the rules were simple: each person drew the name of another Avenger. Then, you had to give the person whose name you drew a series of gifts with clues about your identity leading up to the final day, when you would give them a gift and a final clue. Then, each person would try to guess who their Secret Santa was. Regardless of whether or not they figured it out, each person would receive one final gift, something a bit more special.
Steve closed the announcement by informing the group they would draw names the following Monday, and would have approximately a month to pick out gifts before they completed the exchange. A certain buzz filled the air as everyone left the conference room, with some reminiscing about funny moments from past exchanges, while others pondered over who they might end up with.
It wasn’t until after the meeting that Theo had the foresight to ask if the Secret Santa exchange was meant to replace getting everyone their own gifts, or if it was in addition to getting everyone their own gifts. Wanda, ever the MVP when it came to explaining unwritten Avengers’ rules to Theo, explained that it was in addition to getting everyone else gifts.
Theo spent the next two days praying she would get someone easy to shop for - after all, she already had to get gifts for a dozen Avengers, plus her hospital colleagues, and her family. She wasn’t sure that she had enough mental capacity to figure out gifts for someone she wasn’t as familiar with.
Of course, some deity had it out for her, because she drew Loki’s name.
Loki, the prince and ‘most powerful sorcerer in the nine realms,’ who could buy or conjure pretty much anything he wanted in the snap of his fingers.
Loki, who, besides being Theo’s best friend among the Avengers, happened to be the person Theo had a massive fucking crush on.
It wasn’t like anything would ever come of the crush - Loki had a firm rule that he did not date. He had no interest in relationships whatsoever. It was a tidbit of information Theo learned early on in her tenure as an Avenger, amidst a conversation about the love lives of the Avengers as a whole. Loki would spend one night with someone, but never allow it to become an ongoing thing - in his words, “everyone has certain needs to satiate, but courting someone is no interest of mine.”
So, despite Theo’s unbidden thoughts of channeling her inner hallmark movie to reveal her feelings to Loki, she needed to figure out how the hell to navigate getting him Secret Santa gifts, a normal gift… oh yeah, and his birthday gift, because that was a week before Christmas.
Inevitably, once they finished drawing names, Theo immediately dragged Wanda down the hall by the sleeve of her red hoodie and into Wanda’s suite, since it was closer than Theo’s.
“What’s going on?” Wanda half-laughed as she closed the door and glanced, worriedly, at Theo, who had started to pace the room. “Are you okay?”
“I need your help with Secret Santa — What the hell do you get someone who could have anything they want for Christmas?” Theo flopped on Wanda’s bed with a dramatic sigh, her mind reeling with how to handle her predicament.
“That depends –” Wanda answered slowly, eyes narrowed as she approached Theo. “Why do you think they have everything?”
“Because he’s a prince and a God who can conjure anything he damn well pleases with the snap of his fingers!” Theo tossed her arms up in the air, gesturing exasperatingly at nothing.
Nothing - just like the ideas she had for Loki’s gifts.
Nothing.
“So you have Loki for your Secret Santa?” Wanda sat down beside Theo, smirking at her.
“Yes!” Theo buried her face with her hands. “I had a hard enough time figuring out a birthday present, and I still haven’t figured out what to get him for a normal Christmas gift! But now I also have to give him a Secret Santa gift?!”
“Gifts, plural.” Wanda reminded her, smirk widening into a rather evil-looking grin. “Remember, it’s a week of lead-up to the final gift, because the goal is to try and have them guess who it is.”
“FUCK.” Theo let her arms drop to her sides. “This isn’t fair—“ she whined, earning a poorly stifled laugh from Wanda.
“Oh come on, it’s not like he’s the only one who is hard to shop for,” Wanda attempted to sympathize, but the giggles that slipped out as she replied did little to help. “Can you imagine having to buy gifts for Tony?”
“Simple, get him booze.” Theo scoffed, propping herself up on her elbows.
Wanda rolled her eyes and adjusted her ponytail, one auburn lock falling aside to frame her face.
“Look, half the fun is writing the little cards that go with each gift to give the person clues about who the gifts are from, and then trying to figure out the identity of your Secret Santa,” Wanda pointed out. “Besides, other than Thor, I’m willing to bet that no one knows Loki as well as you do!”
“That only makes it worse,” Theo complained and flopped back a second time, rolling over to bury her face in Wanda’s burgundy comforter. “Because I know he’s a picky bitch and nothing will be good enough for him.”
The snort that came out of Wanda did nothing to ease Theo’s concern, but it sounded ridiculous enough that even Theo laughed.
“I think that he’d like any gift you give him, simply because it’s from you.”
“That’s cliché as hell.” Theo pressed herself up enough to look over at Wanda, who, despite Theo’s whining and dramatics, still wore a small, knowing smile.
“And true.” Wanda shrugged. “You are, without a doubt, his favorite person on the team, and probably on this planet.”
“Yeah, for all the good that does me.” Theo grumbled to herself, but sat up all the way. “It’s not like I can tell him on day one that I’m his Secret Santa, so the gifts have to be good. No, they have to be perfect.”
“You’re overthinking this.” Wanda chuckled softly, then rose to her feet and held out a hand for Theo to grab onto. “How about we go shopping and see what is out there? Maybe you’ll get some inspiration that way.”
The petulant child within Theo wanted to complain for a bit longer about her predicament, but deep down, Wanda had a good point. If nothing else, it would give her a chance to get out and clear her head before the inevitable descent into holiday madness.
“Right. That’s probably a good idea.” Theo accepted Wanda’s hand and allowed her to pull Theo onto her feet. “I need to get gifts for my family anyways, so maybe i’ll knock it all out at once.”
“Only if I can help you pick out gifts for Katie,” Wanda winked at Theo as she opened the door.
“Deal.” Theo didn’t have to think twice before answering. “Do you have plans for this afternoon? I’m not working, so we could go today…”
Wanda held up her purse and grinned. “Let’s go!”
Shopping with Wanda, unsurprisingly, proved to be a fruitful venture.
Sure, the pair went absolutely wild with gifts for Theo’s niece. Would Max kill Theo when he saw just how much stuff Theo got? Absolutely. Did she care? Not a bit; after all, she had to maintain her reputation as the coolest aunt.
More importantly, Theo managed to put together a list of ideas for gifts that referenced inside jokes from the time that Theo and Loki had known each other. Even better - the conversation between Theo and Wanda as they shopped, though wide-ranging and lively, gave Theo the inspiration for her final gift.
In the end, the gifts required some careful planning, calling in some favors, and a lot of sneaking to make it happen - not to mention a few sleepless nights as Theo put the finishing touches on certain details - but she managed to pull everything together, just in time for the first day of gift-giving.
Pepper had really outdone herself with the holiday decorations. On a normal day, the common areas within the tower could be described as minimalist: clean lines, lots of metal and glass, neutral tones everywhere, no knick knacks or soft touches to be found. Not even a throw pillow or blanket could be found in the common areas - whenever Theo wanted a pillow or a blanket, she had to bring it from her suite.
Yet, when everyone filtered into the living room after going out for dinner, they may as well have walked into a luxury ski chalet at Tahoe. In one corner sat a massive, lush evergreen tree trimmed with glistening tinsel, soft white lights, and a collection of beautifully coordinated ornaments in burgundy, cream, gold, navy, emerald, and eggplant.
The fireplace had a beautiful garland of eucalyptus, cypress, and cedar draped across the mantle; tucked among the greenery sat pillar candles of varying heights in burgundy, navy, emerald, eggplant, and gold. Elegant, cream-colored stockings with each Avenger’s name embroidered at the top hung in front of the crackling fire (plus stockings for Pepper and Happy, since they were pretty much unofficial Avengers).
Blankets and accent pillows, some in plaids that incorporated the colors of the ornaments and candles, others in solid colors, all made of luxuriously plush fabrics, found homes on the various seating throughout the living room.
Even the coffee tables had coordinating centerpieces.
Theo quickly found her usual seat, but continued to gawk at the living room’s transformation. When the hell did Pepper (or, Theo supposed, whoever Pepper hired) have the time to decorate the living room? Just that morning, when Theo left for work, the living room had been its usual, minimalist styling. Maybe if she had stopped back in her suite before meeting the others at the restaurant she would have seen the living room decoration in progress.
Hardly a moment later, Loki sat down beside her. Dressed in a forest-green crewneck sweater that perfectly framed the planes of his chest and black dress pants that highlighted his long legs, Loki somehow managed to look holiday appropriate without even trying. His raven curls, just slightly disheveled from the wind and snow outside, framed his elegant features so perfectly; combined with the warm glow of the fire and the soft light of the christmas tree he appeared downright radiant, particularly as he grinned at something Thor said.
“Quite magnificent, is it not?” Loki leaned over and nudged Theo with his elbow, interrupting her train of thought. Theo had to stop for a moment and consider whether he was referring to the himself, or the living room.
“Yeah,” Theo agreed, her cheeks growing hot as she realized Loki caught her staring. “Compared to when I left this morning, it is a night and day difference.“
“I suspect Miss Potts takes great pleasure in decorating for the winter holidays.” Loki offered Theo a soft smile. His soft eyes caught the flicker of the candles atop the coffee table as he studied Theo, and for the second time in less than a couple minutes, she found herself speechless.
Luckily, Dum-E saved the day when he dropped a present on Theo’s lap, and in doing so brought both sorcerers’ attention to the larger group. As it turned out, Dum-E distributed everyone’s gifts - all wrapped in the same paper, to make sure that the gift wrap didn’t give anything away - and as soon as he finished, it was time to open the first day’s gift.
They started with Bruce, then worked their way through a randomly generated list that Steve put together. The soft lights of the Christmas tree, glow of the fire crackling in the hearth, and joyous laughter as each person read their clue and opened their gifts filled the room with such warmth. It was the kind of holiday scene you’d see on a postcard, especially since snowflakes drifted past the tall windows and into the city below.
As they drew closer to Loki’s turn, Theo’s hands began to sweat. What if he didn’t like her gift? Sure, it was kind of corny, but it was a fun reference to how they spent much of their time. He didn’t seem overly thrilled by the idea of Secret Santa in the first place; what if her silly little gifts only made him hate the game?
Well, she didn’t have to wait any longer to find out, because it finally reached Loki’s turn.
Loki picked up the small box, turning it over and inspecting it. He tossed it into the air and caught it in one hand, lithe fingers curling perfectly around the container.
“It is quite light, and rather small,” he observed. “Whatever is in this box does not jostle when moved, so it either fills the box or it is carefully packed in place. Let us see what is inside.”
Loki methodically removed the ribbons, then carefully tore away the gift wrap. He removed the lid in a graceful motion and set it aside, all the while peering into the box. He hummed.
Seeing the fabric folded and coiled inside, he reached in and tugged on the cloth, pulling it from the box. The fabric unfolded as he lifted the gift into the air, revealing the first gift: a pair of crew-length socks - black, with an emerald green heel and toe. On one side of each sock, placed so it would be visible while wearing shoes, was the design of an apple car driven by a worm, as well as text which read: “I’m on my way to the bookstore!”
“Aw, those are cute!” Wanda winked at Theo as she said the words, to which Theo casually agreed.
Loki maintained a relatively neutral expression, though he let out a rather amused hum. He set the socks in his lap, then opened the card. As his eyes scanned over the text, one side of his lips curled up, then the other, until he wore a sheepish smile. He read aloud:
“I know you love the bookstore,
We’ve been there a time or two,
But since I can’t buy the whole store,
I got you a pair of Crew… socks!
Sorry, I know you like poetry, but your Secret Santa isn’t a poet.” Loki chuckled, shaking his head, then continued: “These socks are from Out of Print, which has donated over 5 million books to communities in need and supports a variety of literacy initiatives.”
He looked up from the card and glanced around at the group. “Well, thank you to my mysterious Secret Santa. I quite enjoy a whimsical piece of attire, and I am certain these will be put to good use.”
Next to Loki, Theo let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.
First day was not a failure.
Only… four more to go.
The second day of gift-giving arrived, and with it came another day of second-guessing whether or not Loki would like his gift.
This time, the idea came from a conversation early in their friendship. After falling asleep in Theo’s suite, Loki joined her for coffee on her balcony, at which point Theo explained a sudoku to Loki. At the time, he commented that there were “some puzzles he was still learning to solve.”
From that morning on, Theo couldn’t help but notice the way Loki approached briefings and missions as puzzles to solve. So when Theo found a pair of rather clever puzzle books (many of which provided a formidable challenge, even for her), she knew that it would be a perfect gift.
Yet, as the day crept on and the gift exchange grew near, Theo felt the seeds of doubt taking root once again. What if he thought the puzzles were stupid? He was a god, after all, and insanely intelligent. The puzzles might have been a challenge for Theo, but they were probably child’s play for Loki.
Still, it was too late to turn back, so by the time Theo sat down with the others and the gifts were distributed, she simply hid her sweaty palms in her sweater sleeves and acted like it was any other night in the tower.
Loki, for what it was worth, seemed perfectly relaxed when he took his usual seat beside Theo; this time, he opted for a plain gray t-shirt and a black cardigan, paired with what were (secretly) Theo’s favorite pair of dark, slim-fit jeans. When Loki crossed one ankle over his knee, Theo noticed his emerald green and black socks and her heart skipped a beat - he wore the socks she gave him.
That was a good sign, right?
Once again, Dum-E distributed the gifts, then each person took their turn opening their gift and reading the card; this time they started with Yelena, but otherwise the order was the same. After what felt like ages, Steve finally gave Loki the go-ahead to open his gift.
Like the first day, Loki went through the same routine of examining the box, then peeled away the wrapping paper.
For the sake of maintaining a bit of mystery (and making it slightly less obvious that the gift was a pair of books), Theo put the set into a clothing box and padded the sides. It wasn’t that sneaky, since the box was heavier than it would have been with apparel inside, but at least Loki wouldn’t know until he opened the box.
He opened the box and removed the first book.
“The Master Theorem - Book of Puzzles, Intrigue, and Wit,” he read the title, then held it up for all to see, then held up the second book and read off the title. “The Master Theorem: Elite - Book of Puzzles, Intrigue, and Wit.”
He returned the books to his lap, pausing for a moment to flip through the pages and glance at the contents.
“You gonna open the card?” Tony nodded towards the card that came with the box, which barely poked out from beneath the pair of books.
“Ah, yes, apologies.” Loki offered a half-smile, then retrieved the card and read aloud:
“While the identity of your Secret Santa is, well, a secret, it’s no secret that you, Loki, are pretty smart - like, ridiculously smart. And you’re a quick learner… Plus you’ve got a knack for problem solving. With that in mind, you seem to be a master when it comes to puzzles; even though you once told me there are still some puzzles you are learning to solve, the way you light up when you encounter a good logic puzzle or mystery makes me think there are few things you enjoy more than a good challenge.
“This series of puzzle books is notorious for its difficult logic puzzles - the New York Times called the first Master Theorem book “Mensa’s evil twin,” and the Elite edition is supposed to be exponentially harder. But with your sharp wit and attention to detail, I’m sure you’ll have it figured out in no time… And by the time you finish, maybe you’ll figure out the identity of your Secret Santa as well!”
Loki grinned as he folded the card and set it aside. “Thank you, my mysterious benefactor - I imagine I will be entertained for quite some time.”
For the rest of the evening, whenever Theo snuck a glance at Loki, she caught him flipping through his new books with a subtle smile and a twinkle in his eye, only half-paying attention to the others as they opened their gifts.
Day two: rousing success. Only three more days to go.
For the third day of gift-giving, Theo took a bigger risk.
At one point in Theo and Wanda’s shopping adventure, they stopped at a bakery to grab a snack and some coffee. While they waited for their drinks, they got on the topic of how, earlier that morning, Thor offered Loki a frosted pop-tart. In response, Loki nearly disintegrated the thing on sight, calling it an abomination to pastries everywhere.
And that was from Loki, the guy who was notorious for his sweet tooth.
The conversation gave Theo an idea.
Ever since Loki roped Theo into his pranks, Theo had wanted to find a way to turn the tables and prank him. And what better way to prank him than to bait-and switch some sweet treats?
With a call to Theo’s favorite Bodega cashier, Carlos (who still hadn’t gotten up the courage to ask out that girl, but had at least he learned her name was Liza), Theo managed to get her hands on one of the big cardboard boxes that they shipped pop-tarts in. Importantly, it said pop-tarts all along the outside, so when Loki saw the box he would initially think it was a whole case of pop-tarts.
Instead of filling it with pop-tarts, Theo convinced Mémère to bake up all sorts of traditional Aneterran holiday treats to fill the box. Given Mémère already planned to make the treats, it was easy for the family matriarch to accommodate the request. However, when Theo explained her plan, a knowing, almost devilish grin spread across Mémère’s face; the next thing Theo knew, there were treats that Theo hadn’t seen since she was a child.
Packing the treats into the box required quite a bit of attention to detail - it had to have the weight and heft of a case of pop-tarts, and it had to be packed tightly enough to not move around, but she also didn’t want to crush the treats.
There may have been some enchantments involved to make it work, but hopefully Loki wouldn’t notice.
Not wanting to make the prank too convincing, Theo made sure to leave clues that the box had been altered somehow; knowing Loki, realizing the box had been tampered with would make him curious enough to look inside.
When everyone gathered for the third night of gift-giving, the laughter and merriment from the first two nights returned almost immediately. But when it came to Loki’s turn to open his gift, Theo’s confidence from the day prior collided with her nerves, to the point that she clutched her mug of spiked hot chocolate so her hands wouldn’t shake.
Just like the first two nights, Loki inspected the wrapped gift, lifting it up and giving it a gentle shake. “Much larger, and rather heavy,” he noted. “Yet, there’s a card that indicates I ought to open it before the gift. I suppose I ought to follow my Secret Santa’s request.”
He set the gift back in his lap, and quickly opened the card.
“Heard you have a sweet tooth…” Loki read aloud, then glanced down at the gift and hummed. “Well, let us see what is inside.”
Loki started to tear away the wrapping paper, but paused part-way through; his face twisted into something unreadable when he saw the writing on the box.
Theo bit her lip to not give herself away.
“Pop-tarts?” Thor exclaimed, cocking his head to the side with curiosity. “Brother, I did not think you to be a fan of the Midgardian pastry.”
“I…” Loki trailed off, face falling as he unwrapped the rest of the box. “Interesting.”
Theo’s heart stuttered in her chest - what if he didn’t think to open the box? Would she give herself away if she said something? Oh god, he looked like a kicked puppy — she should have realized that he might take it wrong because Thor likes pop-tarts and he’s the popular brother, shitshitshit—
“Loki, maybe you should open the box,” Bruce suggested, “There’s a weird wrinkle by the cardboard seam that makes me think it was opened, then closed again.”
If it wouldn’t have given her away, Theo would have leapt to her feet and hugged the man for his suggestion.
“Yeah, that box looks like it has been messed with,” Sam agreed, “and I think everyone knows you hate pop-tarts.”
The kicked-puppy expression softened as Loki took a second look at the box and noticed the obvious tampering that Bruce and Sam pointed out. A hint of pink rose on Loki’s cheeks - if Theo didn’t know better, Loki looked almost embarrassed at the realization - but he went ahead and opened the box.
Theo held her breath, all of her attention trained on Loki as she waited for his reaction.
Peering into the box, Loki’s shoulders suddenly dropped and relief flooded his features; he reached in and retrieved a treat similar to a chocolate scone, as well as a second card.
“Pleased to report that I was mistaken; it appears the box is filled with a variety of homemade treats, as well as a second card.” He let out a soft, almost hesitant chuckle as he opened the note and read aloud:
“HA! Nearly got you, didn’t I?!” Loki laughed a second time, this time a little louder, and nodded his head. “You’ve pulled off some of the best pranks, but your Secret Santa is known for a good prank or two.
“Jokes aside, did you really think your Secret Santa would do that to you? Of course not - I know you have a discerning taste when it comes to sweet treats (far more discerning than your brother, of course)! These are some of my favorite holiday snacks from growing up; I think you’d like them too. If nothing else, I promise they taste better than pop-tarts.”
Loki returned the note to the box, then unwrapped the treat in his other hand. He took a bite, and his face almost immediately lit up. He chewed for a moment, then swallowed, and cleared his throat to speak.
“Well, mysterious Secret Santa,” he said, “I will confirm that this treat is quite divine. However, you best watch yourself– “ Looking around at their teammates, a dark, sinister grin curled over Loki’s face. “– I am known as the Trickster god for a reason, and you may very well have started a war.”
When Loki briefly locked eyes with Theo, her heart skipped a few beats; in just a few moments he went from beautiful to downright devilishly handsome, and his threat should not have been nearly as hot as it was.
Sweet baby Jesus, she needed to get her shit together.
“Any guesses on who it is?” Bucky asked, tapping his vibranium fingers along the side of his still-wrapped present.
“I’ve a few contenders,” Loki smoothly answered, the earlier signs of discomfort completely gone, “but I will wait to put forth any claims.”
“Who cares! The real question is are you gonna share!?” Shuri pointed at the pastry in Loki’s hand, then held out her own hand. “That looks amazing!”
“Maybe once the Secret Santa is revealed, they can bring us all some treats.” Wanda replied, though she gave Theo a pointed glance, to which Theo glared back - after all, she didn’t want Wanda to give her away. “But for now, I think Loki should get to enjoy all of his gifts.”
Loki, who was busy searching through the rest of the box, didn’t seem to notice Wanda staring at Theo.
Shuri glanced at Wanda, then at Theo, then grinned as she made the connection.
“Fine, but they better bring me some extras,” Shuri relented. “That thing looks amazing.”
Theo smiled and rolled her eyes, just in time for Steve to inform Wanda that it was her turn to open her gift.
Day three, though nearly a bust, worked out.
Only two more to go.
After the scare of the third day, Theo went into the fourth day feeling more comfortable about her gift. Sure, Loki may shrug at it, and there was a chance he wouldn’t use it. But at least she wouldn’t run the risk of upsetting him by making him believe his preferences were the same as his brother’s.
In some ways, the gift seemed particularly timely: a winter storm raged outside the tower, with howling winter winds and heavy snow that made sitting in the living room feel like they were inside a snowglobe. Even with the heat on and the fire roaring in the hearth, everyone bundled up in sweaters and plush blankets, sipping on mugs of cocoa and tea in between opening gifts.
On the fourth night, Loki’s turn to open his gift came even earlier. Similar to the first three nights, he inspected the box - small, slender, almost like a fancy box for a fountain pen.
After making quick work of the wrapping paper, he glanced at the lid of the box:
“Museum of Modern Art Design Store,” he read, then shrugged and removed the lid of the box.
Nestled among chic black packing material sat a stainless steel tea infuser. Its design was what drew Theo to the gift - long, slender, with a hook on the top for easy removal, it looked downright elegant. And with the amount of tea Loki drank, an upgrade to his usual steeping methods seemed like the perfect sort of gift - thoughtful and useful.
Loki hummed, carefully slipping the tea infuser out of its packaging and inspecting it. The stainless steel glowed beneath the Christmas lights and reflected the smile curling over Loki’s face. He twisted the cap off, then closed it again, nodding to himself as he set it aside and opened the card. Like the first three days, he read the message to the group:
“A tea infuser that combines form and function?! It’s almost as stylish as you are (almost)! As the resident tea expert on the team, it seemed only appropriate to give you something for making your favorite (non-alcoholic) drink - after all, you’ve brought me, your Secret Santa, more than a few drinks over the course of knowing each other!”
The hint, in Theo’s opinion, was almost painfully obvious; Loki brought Theo drinks all the time. Coffee at the hospital when he knew she had a long day. Whiskey or wine when she needed to unwind. Tea when it was late and neither of them could fall asleep. Water when Theo just used her inhaler and needed to rinse out her mouth. Throughout the entire time she had been an Avenger, Theo never saw Loki bring anyone else drinks quite so often - not Thor, not Wanda, not anyone. However, the clue made so much sense, and there was only one more day, so it wasn’t like she had to keep the secret for much longer.
What Theo didn’t account for, however, was almost every other person in the room making the connection between the clue and the identity of Loki’s Secret Santa. Over a dozen pairs of eyes all trained in on Theo as Loki glanced down to set the card and gift aside; the heat of their stares nearly made Theo lose her composure.
When Steve asked if Loki knew who his Secret Santa was, he simply smirked and replied “I’ve my suspicions, but I find I rather enjoy the suspense and anticipation of the grand reveal.”
Somehow, she held it together, but just barely. Sure, Theo was grateful that Loki seemed to enjoy the gifts up to that point, but “suspense and anticipation of the grand reveal?” If Theo was under pressure before, now she was on the verge of being crushed under the weight of expectation, and the whole damn team knew it.
Theo shot a terrified look at Wanda, who only sent back an impish grin.
Shit.
One more day to go.
The final day of Secret Santa arrived, and with it, the grand reveal. Apprehension loomed over Theo’s head like a storm-cloud; after all, the pressure was on - not only to give the perfect gifts, but to set up the perfect reveal as Loki’s secret Santa.
Despite the overall success of the first four days, by the time the last exchange began, Theo was too nervous to sit down. Instead, she leaned against the kitchen island with her mug of hot chocolate and whiskey clutched in both hands, offering little more than one-word answers whenever someone tried to ask her something. The only time she even considered sitting down was when Loki asked if she would join him on the couch, but then all the potential ways she might make a fool of herself flooded her thoughts and she politely declined, claiming that she needed to stretch her legs a bit.
If Theo didn’t know better, Loki seemed disappointed that she didn’t want to sit by him, but it was probably her mind playing tricks on her; after all, Theo was the one with the crush, not Loki.
At least from across the room, Theo could easily admire Loki in his thick, fair isle sweater - seasonally appropriate, of course, but like all of his attire, it fit him perfectly and highlighted his long, lithe form in all the right ways. Between her nerves about the gift and how distractingly handsome Loki was, she barely noticed when the first two Avengers opened their gifts and found out who was assigned as their Secret Santa.
For the final night of the exchange, Loki was the third person to open his gifts.
While Loki focused on the large box in front of him, everyone else stared at Theo. If she could have, she would have melted into the floor; instead, she stood by the kitchen island with her mug of hot chocolate and whiskey in both hands, shooting dirty looks at the rest of the group so they wouldn’t give her away.
… Not like Loki hadn’t already figured out that Theo was his Secret Santa, because he likely knew. If he didn’t know, he was about to figure it out, but that was beside the point.
Of all the gifts Theo chose, today’s were the most nerve-wracking because they were the most personal: the pre-reveal gift referenced something Loki gave her when she ended up in the hospital with an asthma exacerbation and pneumonia a few months prior. The post-reveal gift referenced the time all the Avengers visited New Asgard, and Loki took her on a late-night walking tour of the community.
The note on the card was, well, maybe a bit too sentimental - in hindsight, maybe she should have saved the message for a later card that she could have given him in private. But by that point the card was taped to the box in Loki’s lap, and Theo couldn’t do a damn thing about it, other than brace herself for the inevitable fallout.
At least she had the sense to write a disclaimer at the top of the note: “You might want to read this to yourself first, then decide if you want to read it out loud.”
After four days, Loki’s examination of the gift box had become a routine: turn it all around, lift it up in the air, give it a shake - and once he seemed satisfied, he peeled away the wrapping paper.
“Well, I do not have any guesses as to what is inside this box, so I suppose I ought to open it.” Loki remarked, tugging away the last bit of wrapping paper. He conjured a dagger to cut the tape sealing the flaps at the top of the box, though he was careful not to cut deeply and risk damaging the contents inside (which was good, because that dagger would have sliced through the gift like hot butter).
Unlike the previous days, where he immediately looked inside the container, this time he made a show of looking at the others as he reached inside. Theo watched Loki’s arm muscles tense through the wool of his sweater as he grabbed the gift, while his brows furrowed with confusion.
As he turned back toward the box, he slowly pulled out the present: a snake squishmallow, in green, of course - after all, green was his color.
“That’s cute!” Natasha commented, though Loki didn’t seem to notice. He held the plush toy in both hands, turning it side to side as he gave it a once-over. Theo swore she could spot the gears turning in Loki’s head as he tried to make the connection between the toy and his Secret Santa.
“Yeah, but why? I don’t see the connection.” Yelena added, pointing at the card. “Open the card. I want to know what it says.”
Loki slowly set aside the snake, as if still thinking about the gift, and pulled out the note.
Theo watched as Loki methodically scanned the note. At first, he read with heavy brows drawn tightly together; after a few moments, the light from the christmas tree reflected off his sea glass eyes, glittery and shining amidst the soft glow. A shaky, small smile grew as he made his way through the message until it practically took over his face.
“Well, what does it say?” Natasha asked, craning her neck to try and read what was written on the card.
Loki, however, ignored her. Without warning, he closed the card and rose to his feet. In a couple of long strides, he stood before Theo, who could no longer bite back her nervous smile as he drew near.
Theo barely had a chance to set down her mug before Loki scooped her into his arms and crushed her in an embrace, the strength of which forced a small “oof!” out of Theo from the impact. She didn’t waste a moment before returning the embrace, selfishly nuzzling into his chest and drinking in the scent of cologne on his sweater - cedar, bergamot, and smoke - as they stood, arms wrapped around each other and swaying gently from side to side.
Loki leaned down, his nose brushing gently along Theo’s hair, then drew a deep breath.
“Thank you,” he whispered in her ear. “Truly. Thank you.”
Theo’s heart damn near exploded.
“Elsa, I really hope that Rapunzel’s your Secret Santa,” Tony, ever the troll, interrupted, “or this is going to get awkward.”
“Yeah, Tony, it’s me.” Theo laughed, her mind reeling as Loki shifted -  if Theo’s mind didn’t deceive her, his lips brushed against the crown of her hair. Still, he hadn’t let go, and as long as Loki held on, Theo had no plans of going anywhere.
“Now I wanna know what she wrote on that damn note,” Sam complained between shoving handfuls of caramel corn in his mouth. “Because damn, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Loki react like that.”
“Can we let him open the other gift first?” Theo asked, still hugging Loki as she looked over at Sam. “After all, there is a part of the message that won’t make sense without seeing the final gift.
“Fine, but afterwards I wanna read the damn note.” Sam grumbled and leaned back in his seat while Bucky leaned over and snatched some caramel corn from him.
Theo begrudgingly pulled away from Loki, silently lamenting the lack of warmth that came with his touch. She rounded the Christmas tree and crouched down to where she hid the final box - a thin, rectangular box that was a bit larger than a poster - and brought it over to Loki, who had returned to his original seat. Theo sat down beside him, nervous but excited to see how he reacted to the last gift.
This time, Loki didn’t spend a moment examining the package - he went straight to tearing off the wrapping paper. With paper crumpled up and tossed aside, he carefully slid the lid off the box.
Centered on a bed of white tissue paper, was a painting - a canvas covered in thousands of small dashes of paint, the result of more than a few sleepless nights as Theo raced to finish the painting on a tight deadline. During the day, Theo hid it beneath a stack of other canvases so if Loki stopped by her suite, he wouldn’t notice; the moment night fell, Theo was elbows deep in oil paint as she added layer after layer of color.
“It’s New Asgard!” Thor exclaimed as he peered over Loki’s shoulder.
“Those are the gardens…” Loki breathed, one hand hovering over the canvas as if he wanted to touch it and prove to himself that it was real.
“The gardens that you created, and that your people and countless tourists adore.” Theo added, her cheeks slightly pink.
Loki’s focus went to the bottom corner, where Theo scrawled her name. It was tiny and borderline illegible because of the paint, but if someone had ever seen her handwriting, they would know instantly who it was. Loki traced his fingers over the letters almost meditatively.
“You made this?” When Loki looked up at Theo, she caught the slightest shine in the corners of his eyes, though his expression was nothing but pure awe. “Was this from memory?”
“God, my memory isn’t that good - I mean, yeah I painted it, but it wasn’t from memory,” Theo rubbed the back of her next, heat rising on her cheeks as Loki continued to gape at her. “I got Val to send me some pictures for reference, and then I worked on it every night after everyone was asleep. I wasn’t sure it would be done in time, if I’m honest, because oil paint takes forever to dry, but it dried just in time. The paint is still going to need some time to fully cure, so I’d be gentle with it.”
For the second time in minutes, Loki pulled Theo into another heartfelt embrace.
“I am… I am speechless. I’ve no words, truly.” He laughed, a rumbling sound that Theo felt as much as she heard it. “Thank you.”
“Okay now we need to know what the hell was on that card.” This time it was Shuri, who looked like she was one step away from snatching the card and reading it out loud herself.
Loki unfurled his arms from around Theo so he could set the painting on the table in front of them, then retrieved the card.
“I think you ought to read it,” Loki held the card out to Theo, his cheeks now flushed with crimson. “I imagine it will sound better in your voice, since you wrote the message.”
Theo rolled her eyes, but accepted the card. She got the sense that Loki felt a bit sentimental himself, and was probably a bit out of his comfort zone; re-reading the message aloud might be more than he thought he could handle. So, despite her heart still fluttering like a goddamn school girl, Theo tried her best to steady her breathing, then cleared her throat and began:
One of Thor’s favorite stories to tell is when you were children and turned into a snake to trick him. One of my favorite things is watching the little smile you get every time he tells the story, like you know you shouldn’t think it’s funny and it makes the story even funnier. I bet you’re making that same smile right now as you think about the story!
This clue will probably give me away, but you once gave me a gift much like this - a plush toy of an unexpected creature, because you realized that the creature shared a connection to my sister. You didn’t make a big deal out of it - telling me you “happened to pass by a shop window and it just seemed like something I would like,” but it meant the world to me; to this day, it is easily the best gift I’ve ever received.
In many ways, that gift is such a great example of why I am so lucky to have you as a friend - you are so incredibly thoughtful and kind, and when you sense that someone is having a tough time you go above and beyond to help, all without making a big deal about it… God knows you did that for me constantly when I first got here! There are, obviously, other reasons that you’re an amazing friend (your sense of humor, intelligence, and patience in putting up with me are also high on the list).
I know none of my Secret Santa gifts have been big or flashy so far, and your final gift isn’t exactly big or flashy either. If I’m honest, I panicked when I drew your name because, well, what do you get someone who could have any gift they wanted? But the more I thought about it, the more I came back to just how lucky I was to have the gift of your friendship (yeah, corny as fuck, sorry - you’re the silvertongue, not me!). I can’t ever give you a gift that would compare, but I can at least make sure you know just how grateful I am for you and how much of a difference you make. Without a doubt, my life is better because you’re in it, as are the lives of many others.
So, for your final gift, I made you something that I hope will remind you of not just the impact you’ve made on me, but the impact you’ve made on countless others, every time you see it.
Merry Christmas Loki.
Yours,
Secret Santa.
P.S. I hope you can forgive my sentiment. Not all of us can be as cool as you.”
By the time Theo finished reading the message aloud, her entire body felt like it was on fire from the combination of her nerves and the others’ burning stares. With trembling hands, Theo slowly closed the card and set it on her lap, eyes focused downward the entire time.
“I didn’t realize it was possible to win at Secret Santa… ” Peter finally broke the silence, beaming as he looked at the pair. “... But I think Theo just won Secret Santa.”
“I think everyone’s going to want you as their Secret Santa next year,” Steve chuckled, nodding along. “Still, we aren’t done with this year’s Secret Santa - I believe Wanda, you’re up next?”
With that, the attention shifted away from the two sorcerers sitting side-by-side on the couch, and onto the rest of the festivities. While Wanda made a scene trying to deduce clues about her gift, Loki casually slipped his hand over to Theo, interlacing his fingers with hers. In turn, Theo leaned her head on Loki’s shoulder and settled into his side.
By that point, she was only-half watching as Wanda opened one last gift. Frankly, Theo hadn’t heard who Wanda’s Secret Santa was, but she wasn’t that interested.
“Merry Christmas, Loki,” Theo whispered, giving Loki’s hand a squeeze.
“Merry Christmas, Theo,” he murmured, turning so his lips brushed Theo’s temple. “I think this might be the first year that I’ve understood why one might enjoy Midgardians’ holiday festivities.”
Cozily tucked into Loki’s side, amidst the golden glow of the holiday lights and the spirited laughter of friends, Theo had to agree: maybe the holidays weren’t so bad after all.

30 days until the wedding
Claire’s first morning in Asgard dawned bright and beautiful, setting the sea below ablaze in glittering gold and silver. Fog rolled down the high mountains. Birds chirped gaily as the people below began to come to life.
Claire wasn’t awake to appreciate any of it.
Ragna, Claire’s new personal servant, was doing her best to awaken the future princess for the morning meal, but the future princess was proving to be a stubborn sleeper.
“My lady?” Ragna hovered in the doorway before stepping inside to open the curtains.
“Alexa...snooze…” Claire grumbled. She hadn’t even opened her eyes and the room was already spinning. She didn’t remember setting an alarm on her Alexa but the bitch wouldn’t shut up and her head was splitting.
“My lady?” Claire groaned loudly and turned away from the sound.
“Alexa- stop!” she pleaded with the digital assistant. Ragna retreated to the main room, drawing short when she came upon Kari polishing the floor.
“How does our lady fare?” Kari asked.
“It is difficult to say,” Ragna replied hesitantly. “The lady seems reluctant to wake, but she keeps speaking to someone named Alexa?”
“Who is Alexa?” Kari wondered. Ragna shrugged. “Perhaps she is a friend of the lady’s from Midgard?”
“A friend whom she speaks to in bed?” Ragna asked, her tone scandalized.
“Perhaps the lady has...different tastes?” Kari suggested quietly, ducking her head when Ragna gaped at her.
“Do not speak of it, Kari!” she whispered harshly. “Our lady’s business is...well...it is not our place to speculate.”
“You would think they would have found a lady who desired the company of men.” Kari muttered as she scrubbed the floor.
“Kari!”
“Alexa, shut up!” Claire groaned as she stumbled into the room, one hand shielding her eyes from the intense sunlight. Keeping her eyes scrunched closed, Claire groaned and swept her hand through her wild hair before daring to open her burning eyes. “Jesus fuck!” she jumped when she saw the two women in front of her. “Um- hi.”
“Good morning, my lady,” Ragna curtsied. Kari shot to her feet, curtsying a second later. “How do you fare?”
“Um...fine I guess. Were you- were you in my bedroom?”
“I was, my lady,” Ragna replied. “I opened your curtains and tried to wake you but-”
“Wait, that was you?” Claire asked groggily as she massaged her temples. “I thought you were my Alexa,” she chuckled, clocking the confused look the two women shared. “Sorry for telling you to shut up.”
“It is forgotten. My lady,” Ragna asked delicately. “Who is Alexa?”
“Is she of Midgard?” Kari asked with grisly interest.
“Um...sort of?” Claire rolled her shoulders as she sat on the couch, wincing as the aching joints popped. “She’s a digital assistant.”
“’Digital’?” the women shared another look of confusion. “She helps with her hands?”
“Does that mean we are digital assistants?” the second woman cackled with glee.
“Not quite,” Claire laughed. “Alexa is uh...she’s not a person, she is a machine. She keeps track of calendars, grocery lists, plays music...that kind of thing.”
“She sounds very talented, this Alexa,” Ragna replied. “But you need not worry, my lady, for I shall be your new Alexa.”
“Sounds great,” Claire grinned. “Can you remind me of your names again please? I am terrible at remembering them.”
“Of course, my lady! This is Kari, your chambermaid,” Ragna introduced the second woman. “And I am Ragna, your personal servant. Are you prepared to begin your day?”
“Can I have a few minutes?” Claire asked. “Also, is there any chance you can take me to the kitchen so I can get some wine for my headache?”
“I certainly can, my lady, but I can also bring it here if you would prefer.”
“Oh god yes, that sounds so much better, thank you,” Claire groaned, cradling her head as it throbbed. “What am I supposed to do today?”
“Yes, of course,” Ragna nodded. “Kari, fetch our lady wine and water. Some bread to soothe her stomach as well.”
“Right away.” Kari jumped to obey the command, disappearing from the apartment without another word.
“Today, my lady is to meet with Her Majesty Queen Frigga and His Majesty Prince Loki to begin preparations for your nuptials. You shall also meet the ladies of the court, as they shall keep you company in your new life here. The seamstress wishes to return so that she may begin work upon your wedding gown. Lastly, the All-Father has made arrangements for your official announcement to the people this afternoon.”
“Didn’t I just get fitted for dresses yesterday?”
“You were, my lady, but that was for your daily wear, not your wedding gown,” Ragna offered an apologetic smile when Claire groaned. “Shall I help you bathe while we await the wine and bread?”
“Thank you, but I can bathe myself.”
“Of course, my lady. Shall I start the water for you?”
“Um...sure.”
In a matter of minutes, Claire sank into what had to be the fanciest bath of her life. The water was blissfully hot, steam rolling outward over the glossy smooth stones as she slumped comfortably on the stone bench. Claire took a sip of wine and sighed blissfully as her throbbing headache began finally to dull. As she soaked in the delightful heat, Claire enjoyed small bites of fresh warm bread and delectable creamy butter.
She could get used to this.
All too soon, she had to get ready to meet Frigga and Loki. Ragna helped her dress, lacing her into a light blue gown of the softest velvet. Claire sat at the vanity, watching in the mirror as her hair was dried and combed into submission. Claire would usually put her hair up to keep it out of her face, but as Ragna explained, only married women of Claire’s new rank were allowed to do so.
Once she was married, she would be required to always wear her hair up in some fashion.
Claire thought that was fucking stupid, but no one asked her.
As soon as she was deemed ready, Ragna escorted her from her apartment to another wing in the palace where she was to meet Frigga and Loki.
To Claire’s dismay, Loki was already there.
“Your Majesty.” Ragna curtsied to Loki as they approached.
“Good morning,” Loki greeted them politely. “I confess I am surprised to see you upright after last night.” he turned his emerald eyes on Claire. Claire rolled her eyes as the door in front of them opened.
“Good morning my darlings,” Frigga said cheerfully. “Come in, come in! We have much to discuss.” Frigga invited Claire and Loki in, gesturing for them to sit for tea. Claire and Loki both stepped forward, nearly colliding at the doorway. Loki gave her an irritated look before stepping back and gesturing for her to go first.
Ragna closed the door behind Loki, leaving Claire in the room with Frigga and Loki.
“Good morning, mother.” Loki greeted Frigga warmly. He did not greet Claire. Claire ignored the slight and choose to look around the room instead. Large glass windows made up one of the walls, positively glowing in the morning sun. Birds chirped merrily from their nests outside, occasionally casting distorted shadows on the cream colored walls when they took flight. Elegant chairs sat around a large round table laden with luxurious cloth and fancy china, complete with fancy cups and saucers with delicate floral patterns painted on them.
“Good morning. Now, to business,” Frigga gestured for tea to be served. A servant stepped from the corner to pour tea into the fine china teacups at their seats. “I couldn’t help but notice that the two of you got off to a bit of a rough start at supper yesterday,” Frigga cajoled the newly engaged couple. “I thought we would begin with a simple introduction to allow you to get to know each other. How are introductions done where you are from, Lady Claire?”
“Oh, uh,” Claire fidgeted slightly, feeling wildly out of her element in the dress she’d been shoved into. The material was plush and soft, but she longed for the clothes she’d brought from home. “The usual, you know, shaking hands, first name, last name…” Frigga smiled politely before looking at Loki expectantly. A look of annoyance flashed across Loki’s face before he extended his hand to her. Claire took it, giving him the same firm handshake she would anyone on Earth. His hands were different than she’d expected. Calloused and rough, but not unpleasantly so.
“Hello,” he purred in his smooth voice, his long fingers clasped around hers. “I am Loki...Odinson.”
“Hi,” she offered. “I’m Claire Fisher.”
“Fisher?” Loki gawked at her. He retracted his hand abruptly, glaring across the table at Frigga. “A peasant? Did you know about this?”
“Is there a problem?” Claire asked.
“Let me see if I fully understand this situation Odin has concocted. Not only am I to be forced to suffer through this farce of a marriage, I am expected to marry a PEASANT?!” Loki scoffed rudely.
“Excuse the fuck out of me, Your Majesty! Not all of us are born with silver spoons up our asses!” the servants in the room gasped at her profanity.
“How dare you; I am a prince of Asgard!”
“Tell you what; I can turn around and leave, and you can waltz your happy ass right back to prison. How’s that sound?” Loki scowled at Claire as she scolded him. How dare she shove her finger in his face! “OR you can grow the fuck up and work with me. This isn’t how I pictured my life working out, either, but I’m here, so do you maybe wanna change your fuckin’ attitude?”
No one had ever spoken to him like this. Even though he could feel the rage in him rising, he couldn’t help but respect the little (at least in comparison to him) mortal. She was bold, and clearly did not fear him.
“Please let me apologize,” Frigga hissed politely as she glared at Loki. “For my son and his atrocious behavior.” Claire huffed, ire still burning in her eyes. Deep blue eyes that Loki was annoyed to find appealing as she glared at him.
“No need,” she said diplomatically. She had already taken a shine to her future mother-in-law. “It’s not your fault he’s a spoiled brat.”
“I beg your pardon?” Loki scoffed. “Madam, perhaps things are different from whence you hail, but here it is customary that a prince should marry someone of standing; not some common waif who procures fish for a living!”
“What?!” Claire shrieked. “What about me has anything to do with fishing? I’ve never been fishing in my life!”
“Ha!” Loki barked a sarcastic laugh. “You are a talented liar, madam. I am almost impressed!”
“I believe I see the misunderstanding-” Frigga interjected before the pair could continue their argument. “Your culture widely uses surnames to differentiate between families. Our culture uses patronymics among the upper class; as a way of tracing one’s lineage. But among the lower castes, one’s surname often indicates their profession.”
“I see.”
“It is no matter,” Frigga said placidly, patting Claire’s hand comfortingly. “We shall simply present you with a patronymic instead of your surname. What was your fathers name, dear?”
“I don’t know,” Claire replied. Loki made a noise beside her and she glared at him. “What?”
“You cannot be presented as a fisher- it isn’t proper!” the prince complained.
“And if I knew my dad’s name, I’d give it! I’ve never even met the man.”
“You’ve got to be kidding.” Loki scoffed. Claire crumpled up her napkin and flicked it at him. The fabric napkin did not strike him as intended, as the jerk in question reached out to grab it before it could.
“Lady Claire, please,” Frigga held up her hands to silence the pair. “This is an unusual circumstance here in Asgard, but not unheard of. We can forego the patronymic and simply introduce you as Lady Claire of Midgard.”
“Works for me.”
“Wonderful,” Frigga smiled before clapping her hands together. “Now, I understand our emissary explained to you that you and Loki may not spend time alone until after you are wed. I have already planned a number of outings which will allow you to get to know each other prior to the ceremony, each with proper chaperones. And of course you will meet for official business as well.”
“Why is that? No offense but it seems kind of...antiquated.”
“It is a custom, meant to protect a young lady’s virtue.”
“Oh no worries, that ship sailed a while ago.” Claire chuckled.
“This must be a joke!” Loki hissed from beside her. “Mother, Odin cannot possibly be considering this-”
“I can hear you, you know! My lack of virginity doesn’t matter anyway!”
“It matters because if this were a proper marriage you would be pure, and if you were found to be anything but you would be shamed!”
“Oh like your virtue is lily white?! Please,” Claire scoffed. “Double standard much?”
“Let me be sure I understand correctly,” Loki’s chair screeched on the floor as he squared off with his intended. “You have zero societal standing, your parentage is questionable at best, and you are without virtue.” He counted her supposed misdeeds on his long fingers, meeting her furious gaze with a level smirk. “Have I missed anything?”
“Those are small potatoes,” Claire scowled. “I have more to offer than fulfilling outdated wish lists.”
“What is it exactly that you have to offer?” Loki’s condescending tone made her want to hit him. “Well?”
“I’m pretty good at punching assholes in the face,” she replied tersely. “Virginity is a stupid concept anyway; only men would be so arrogant as to think their dicks impact a woman’s worth!” Her lip curled in disgust as she raked a derogatory glance up and down his figure.
“That is quite enough!” Frigga scolded before Loki could respond. It was just as well, Odin likely would have thrown him back in his cell for what he would have said. “I can see navigating these cultural differences will prove difficult. However, we cannot let our tempers get the best of us,” She flashed a warning look at Loki before turning to Claire. “Lady Claire, you are new to Asgard, so I can respect that our way of things may cause some upset. However, as you are being inducted into the royal family, you must behave in a manner befitting that. Threatening to punch your future husband is decidedly not what one could consider to be well-behaved. You will apologize.” she gestured toward Loki, her tone warning Claire not to argue if she was smart.
“You’re kidding, right?” Claire never claimed to be smart. “I had to listen to all my supposed faults and I can’t be upset about it?”
“I would never discourage you to ignore such a slight,” Frigga looked pointedly at Loki before turning back to Claire. “Merely reconsider how you react to it. Part of your duties as princess royal will be to act as an example for the young ladies in the court. We must be dignified in all things.”
“I’d say my dignity is intact, and I’m not apologizing for sticking up for myself,” Claire shrugged, crossing her arms as she leaned back in her chair. “If it’s really that awful, feel free to rip up that treaty and send me back home.”
“Cultural disagreements are not a reason to invalidate the treaty between our realms. If it were, no arranged marriages would ever succeed,” Frigga replied, her tone icy. “Now, this presents an unusual dilemma we must account for. It cannot be changed, therefore we will not speak of it again. We will move forward as if nothing is amiss. This information does not leave this room, yes?”
“Fine.” Claire hissed. Loki shrugged, reluctantly straightening his posture when Frigga gave him a pointed look.
“Very well.” he muttered.
“Wonderful,” Frigga smiled at them. “We shall safeguard this secret as though our lives depend upon it. The two of you will be chaperoned at all times until you are wed, as per our laws and traditions. But I must stress upon you, especially you, Lady Claire, how detrimental this information could be should it ever come to light.”
“Even after we’re married?” Claire balked.
“Even after you are married,” Frigga confirmed. “The people of Asgard consider the virtue of their daughters sacrosanct. You will be held to the same standard even though you do not hail from this realm. It is your duty from now on to embody all the virtues that Asgard holds in highest regard.”
“Wonderful,” Claire muttered. “May I be excused?”
“You may. After an apology is made.” Frigga gave Claire The Look™, sending a shiver down Claire’s spine. She hadn’t seen The Look™ in over a decade, but it still made her palms begin to sweat. Still, she wasn’t about to budge. The dickhead would apologize first, or they’d be there for a while.
“I will if you will.” Claire said to Loki, looking at him expectantly.
“Surely you can’t be serious.”
“I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley,” The joke was out before Claire could reign it in. Both Asgardians looked at her blankly. Wrong crowd, Claire. “Never mind.”
“I will not-”
“Yes you will,” Frigga interrupted the prince. Claire felt a surge of smug satisfaction when Loki also received The Look™ from his mother. “Now.” The prince huffed indignantly at his mother, dismayed at being called to the carpet.
His jaw clenched, Loki turned to glare at his future wife. Never before had he met such a stubborn woman. Even now, she was unapologetic. It practically radiated from her in waves. She met his gaze without fear or flinching, and even had the gall to appear bored! She drew a deep breath and began to examine her black claws, the light in the room glinting off them as she turned her hand this way and that.
She would wait an eternity. Loki had spent five years in his cell doing nothing; he could wait until she grew old and died.
“I can do this all day.” She said, tucking one slim leg over the other. She was so smug in her satisfaction at having bested him. Loki tightened his grip on the arms of the chair he sat in, the material creaking under the strain. Claire’s gaze flickered down to his clenched hands before coming back up to his eyes. So she’d noticed. The corner of her mouth ticked up as they continued to glare at each other.
She was enjoying this! This slip of a woman deigned to play games with him? She had no idea who she was dealing with. What he wouldn’t give to choke the life from her.
“Enough!” Frigga set her tea cup down forcibly, making the fine china on the table tremble and breaking the tense silence in the room. “I would strongly advise you both to make your peace. Both of you have signed the agreement, invitations have been sent, preparations are underway. In one month you will marry and that is the end of it!” the queen sighed heavily, frustration clear in every line of her face as she massaged her temples. “We will take the day to collect ourselves, and try again tomorrow. You may go.”
Loki took off like a shot, practically running Ragna over as he bolted out the door. Her uncle was glaring daggers at Loki’s back as Claire left the room.
“I take it things didn’t go well?”
“You have no idea,” Claire groused. “Is it too early to get drunk?”
“Again?” Phil asked. “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
“No, but it’s a tempting one,” Claire grumbled as she watched Loki’s departing figure. “What an ass.”
“My lady,” Ragna spoke up. “The seamstress is waiting.”
“Okay, let’s go. See you later.” Claire tapped Phil’s arm as Ragna led her off.
~~~~
Claire’s second meeting with the seamstress went better than the first, as she only had to be manhandled once. The seamstress chattered happily as she worked, talking about fashions and fabrics and which lady caused a scandal eons ago and still can’t show her face.
“Does my lady have a preference for color?” she asked as she draped fabric this way and that over Claire’s body. “Have you chosen your official color yet?”
“My what?” Claire asked dumbly.
“Each member of the royal family has an official color, my lady, which no one else may wear. His Majesty Prince Thor prefers red, whereas His Majesty Prince Loki prefers green. The All-Father and All-Mother wear yellow and blue respectively,” the seamstress explained. “Perhaps something complimentary to His Majesty Prince Loki?”
“I do like green, but is that allowed?”
“As His Majesty’s intended, you are certainly within your rights to wear green if you desire. You may also choose to wear blue or yellow to honor your new parents, but never red.”
“That’s fine, I look better in cool colors anyway,” Claire said. “Blue I like, green I like, but purple is my favorite.”
“A splendid choice, my lady. I can create a beautiful purple gown for your wedding day,” the seamstress smiled. “I will begin working on a more complete wardrobe for you in your chosen color.”
~~~~
The minute the seamstress left, Ragna ushered Claire to the great hall for lunch and to meet the other young ladies of the court. Claire realized almost instantly this was going to suck.
She met at least six young women, all of whom were in fact much older (much, much older) than she was. Every single one of them claimed to love embroidery, abhor violence, and were as interesting as soggy paper.
Claire was losing her mind with boredom.
Across the great hall, Claire spotted a woman by herself. Tall, thin and dressed in armor, the woman was chugging a pint of mead. Claire decided on the spot she needed to be her friend.
“Excuse me,” Claire left the boring women in the dust and made her way over to the woman in armor. “Hi.” the woman peered at her just as she finished her pint.
“Another!” she called, smashing the tankard on the floor. “Forgive me, Lady Claire, I was parched. I am Lady Sif.” she dipped into a bow, clenched fist over her heart.
“No worries,” Claire grinned. “Nice to meet you.”
“And you, my lady. We certainly do need more female warriors here. Will you be joining us to train?”
“I would love to,” Claire’s grin bloomed into a delighted smile. “I’m not sure when I’ll be able to, with everything going on.”
“Of course, of course, you must be very busy,” Sif nodded. “Weddings are very consuming affairs.”
“That’s one way of putting it,” Claire snickered. “I can only imagine what I’ll be getting up to in the coming weeks.”
“Well, when you find yourself available, I hope you will come find me in the training yard. I am curious what a warrior from Midgard is capable of.”
“Hopefully I don’t disappoint.”
“I’m sure you won’t,” Sif smiled kindly. “After all, you impressed the All-Father. That isn’t so easily done,” she and Claire fell into companionable silence as her replacement mead was delivered. The other ladies Claire had left behind were still blathering on about needlepoint. “You’ll want to watch out for that one.” Sif warned, nodding toward the girl in the crown-like headband.
“Yrsa, right?” Claire guessed. They all looked like the same person, just in different shades of grey.
“Indeed, my lady. She is not so kind as she would have you believe.”
“What about the others?”
“The others I cannot say,” Sif replied. “As you’ve no doubt noticed, I do not subscribe to the same ideals as the other young ladies of court. I prefer to devote my time to defending my realm rather than embroidery.”
“Yeah, that sounds way more fun.” Sif chuckled as she finished her mead, clapping Claire on the arm.
“I must return, but I look forward to seeing you on the training field,” she said. “Best of luck with your…” a loud peal of girlish giggles erupted as Thor walked in. “New friends.”
“Yeah right,” Claire grimaced as the herd of women surrounded Thor to flirt with him. “Pretty sure I’m in hell.” Sif laughed heartily, clapping Claire on the arm again.
“That would be Helheim, my lady,” she corrected, both of them snickering as Thor disappeared in the swarm of women. “Don’t forget-”
“Sif! Where have you been?” Thor boomed as he walked toward them, having broken free of his admirers. “Sister! I see you have met Sif!”
“Hey Thor.”
“Can you join us on the training field? I would love to battle with you.”
“I would, but I have to stay here and gossip,” Claire smiled grimly. “Because embroidery is simply fascinating.”
“Pity,” Thor shook his head. “Loki would enjoy the chance to fight with you as well- at least, more than he has already.”
“Ha ha,” Claire said flatly. “Did he tell you he was class A dick?”
“He has not said anything, but he did not need to. Rumors abound already.” Thor waggled his eyebrows at her, his face breaking into a stupid grin.
“You’re kidding.”
“It is true, the servants hear everything,” Sif murmured. “News travels very fast here, Lady Claire.”
“Clearly,” Claire scoffed. “But he was a jerk and I stood up for myself, and I don’t feel guilty in the least.” Thor and Sif cackled like a pair of old crones.
“Well done,” Thor praised. “Loki needs someone to temper him,” he smacked a meaty paw against Sif’s and Claire’s biceps in sync, barely budging Sif but nearly making Claire fall. “We shall take our leave now, sister. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon.”
“Thanks, I’ll try.” Claire waved as they left the hall, leaving her behind with the cookie cutter girls.
~~~~
Across the palace, preparations were underway for the royal announcement. Wanting to include him as much as possible, Frigga had invited Phil to join in and offer insight. Frigga was determined to blend the traditions of Asgard with the traditions of Claire’s home as much as possible.
“Thank you for coming, Son of Coul. I trust your accommodations are to your liking?” Frigga asked.
“Yes, it’s very comfortable; thank you.” Phil replied.
“Excellent. Walk with me,” Frigga requested, nodding toward the open archway leading to a balcony as he began to walk. Phil followed after nonchalantly, his eyes widening at the beautiful scenery all around them as they stepped outside. Down on the streets below, banners had been hung to celebrate the occasion. A sea of people had already gathered, their excitement palpable. On the large balcony, servants scurried about to finalize preparations. “I would like to meet to discuss specifics for the wedding,” Frigga said as she adjusted a floral arrangement on the railing. “Forgive me, the announcement will take place very soon and things must look perfect. I assume you will be giving Lady Claire away in lieu of her father? You are her only living family, yes?”
“Yes, correct on both parts,” Phil said. “Her father has never been in her life, and her mother died when she was sixteen.”
“It’s tragic, to be orphaned so young. I must commend you for taking her in as you did; it was a noble thing.”
“That’s not necessary,” Phil chuckled. “I’ve always adored Claire; she’s such a vivacious girl. She was too young to be on her own.”
“That is true. Were you brother to her mother or her father?” Frigga asked.
“Neither,” Phil said. “We’re family by circumstance, not blood,” he smiled. “I’ve known her since she was born.”
“I am glad she had someone to care for her,” Frigga murmured. “I will do all I can to watch over her.”
“Thank you. That makes me feel better,” Phil did feel a sense of relief that the maternal woman would keep an eye on Claire.
“To be honest I’m not sure she needs it. She’s very sure of herself.” Frigga hummed in agreement, a wan smile curling her lips.
“She made that quite clear this morning,” Frigga chuckled. “I don’t believe I’ve yet met a young woman with the gall to stand up to Loki. Most fear him too greatly to risk antagonizing him and simply let him do as he pleases.” she barked a laugh as she recalled their intense stare down. “She will be a good match for him. She will surely meet him tit for tat; the Norns know he needs a strong woman to check his ego now and again.”
“Oh I’m sure she’ll have no problem with that,” Phil laughed. “She’s fierce when she needs to be. Her temper is not something to be taken lightly, I will say that.”
“What of this S.H.I.E.L.D. of yours; how is she involved in such business?” Frigga asked.
“She was one of our investigators,” Phil explained. “We constantly monitor for threats and when we find something we can’t explain, Claire and others like her are sent to find out what’s happening. Depending on what it is, investigators will either recommend the subject for further observation or subdue and contain it.” Frigga gaped at him with alarm.
“You will have to excuse my bewilderment,” she cleared her throat. “Female warriors are a rarity here in Asgard. Are there many in your company?”
“Of course. We take anyone willing to join. We actually monitor gifted children to see if they might be suitable for our training program. Claire has always been intelligent; once she came to live with me S.H.I.E.L.D. offered her the chance to test into the program and she was accepted.”
“What sort of things was she taught?” Frigga asked.
“We teach our students everything from combat to basic engineering but they are assigned different jobs based on their aptitude results. Claire was always very athletic and scored very well in combat and weapons training, so she was trained as a field agent before she went on to be an investigator.”
“And you would deem her a good warrior?”
“Without question, yes. She has been in the field since she graduated the program and has one of the highest success rates in her division.”
“I confess I am most curious to see how her skills will translate to her new role,” Frigga replied. “The people of Asgard do not need another warrior, you see.”
“I’m sure she’ll be fine.” Phil said with an optimism he didn’t feel. He had the strange feeling that somewhere in the palace, Claire was causing a ruckus.
“In time I imagine she will flourish, yes,” Frigga nodded. “I am eager for her to take her place,” she added as Loki arrived, fully dressed in his armor and bearing a dour look on his face. “Ah, Loki! I wondered when you would arrive.”
“I am perfectly on time, Mother, as always,” Loki replied. Phil chuckled as Frigga began to fuss over Loki’s appearance. “Mother, please.”
“Hush,” Frigga clicked her tongue at him. “You must look your best.”
“I look fine.”
“My darling boy, ‘fine’ will not do,” Frigga argued. “This is your first appearance with your bride-to-be!”
“If she manages to arrive in time.” Loki said coolly as a commotion from the hallway caught everyone’s attention. Claire came rushing toward them, Ragna hot on her heels.
“I’m here, I’m here,” she said hurriedly as she reached them. She’d changed from the dress she’d worn earlier, now in shimmery rose gold with a floral kransen adorning the crown of her head. Loathe as he was to admit it, the gown suited her curves beautifully. “What are you looking at?” she hissed at Loki when his eyes raked across her figure. Loki huffed in amusement, shaking his head dismissively.
“Nothing,” he replied smoothly. “I thought perhaps you’d gotten lost.”
“So sorry to disappoint.” Claire muttered as Odin arrived, setting everything in motion.
“Son of Coul, if you please,” Frigga gestured for Phil to step aside. Like a dance, people moved seamlessly into place until Loki and Claire stood just inside the large doors waiting to be announced to the masses waiting outside. Claire was so nervous she thought she might throw up. This would be her first official public appearance as the princess-to-be and she wanted to make a good impression.
“Stop fidgeting, it’s distracting.” Loki hissed at her side.
“I can’t help it, I’m nervous!” Claire hissed back. Loki rolled his eyes. “I know you don’t give a shit, but you could at least have a better attitude. This is important; I need to make a good impression on these people.”
“In that case you would do better to stop shaking so much. You’re not a leaf.” Loki said dismissively.
“Thanks for the support, asshole,” Claire scoffed. “Can I at least hold onto your arm or something?”
“You’re quite welcome,” Loki shot back. “And no, you may not. I’ll not add your insecurity to the list of vexing activities I’ve had to endure today,” He sniped. Claire growled and forced her arm around his, looping it rigidly and tugging him toward her for a better grip. Loki growled back and pulled his arm back forcefully to no avail. “I loathe you, you irksome woman. I’d rather rot in my cell than suffer an eternity married to you.” He growled through clenched teeth.
“The feeling is mutual, prick. Maybe I’ll off myself out of spite just so you get a one-way trip back to the dungeons where you belong.” Claire hissed. Loki laughed harshly, towering over her.
“Oh, what a glorious day that would be. Allow me to help you once we’re alone.” The servant straightening the train of Claire’s dress gasped in shock, and Loki spared her an irreverent gaze.
“Enough!” Frigga scolded them sharply. “It’s time,” she said, pinning the engaged couple with a warning glare. “Open the doors.” Loki straightened his shoulders, his already remarkable height somehow growing.
“You shouldn’t slouch.” he had the audacity to say to Claire.
“And you shouldn’t talk to me.” she hissed back, glaring at him sharply when he stepped forward and pulled her off balance.
“My apologies, I thought you were ready,” he feigned concern, one of his large hands shooting out to grab her free arm to stabilize her. “I can appreciate your free spirit, but you’re meant to wear the shoes, not trip out of them.”
“Oh I’m sorry, how stupid of me! I thought they were for decoration,” Claire bent down and grabbed the shoe still on her foot and threw it at the annoying prince. “Say another word, I dare you.”
Looking equally disgusted and confused, Loki gawked at the shoe print on his chest plate before glaring up at her. No one had ever had the nerve to treat him this way. He was honestly speechless.
Two could play at her ridiculous game.
“Another word.” A delightful blaze of fury crossed his fiancee’s face as trumpets announced their cue to appear before the people. Behind them, Frigga rubbed her temples in frustration before stepping behind the couple to steer them apart with a firm hand on their shoulders.
“Remember to smile, darlings. This is the start of a joyous celebration and everyone is here to celebrate with you. You will behave,” she said, her voice honey sweet. “Or else,” her sweet sounding threat hung in the air between them. “Claire, dear, correct your posture, just like we practiced,” a servant scurried forward to collect Claire’s discarded shoes, offering to help her put them back on, stepping back when Claire shook her head. “Loki, I expect you to be nothing less than a perfect gentleman. Claire is new to this, you must help her. And for goodness’ sake, be mindful.”
“Yes Mother,” Loki’s jaw tightened. The roar of the crowd outside made Claire a little nervous. She wasn’t used to being the center of attention; her work with S.H.I.E.L.D. had taught her to blend in and be unnoticeable. “Shall we?” Loki offered her his arm, and Claire took it, steeling herself with a deep breath. She corrected her posture, standing tall with shoulders down and back as Frigga had taught her.
“I’m ready.” she replied, letting Loki take the lead and guide her out onto the terrace.
A wall of noise assaulted her ears as they came into view- cheers and screams of delight seeming to come from all directions.
“People of Asgard,” Odin announced, his voice echoing for all to hear. “We are gathered for a joyous announcement. My son, Prince Loki, is engaged to be wed!”
The people below erupted in cheers, making Claire laugh. How was this her life?
At the front of the crowds, Claire could see a group of young girls. Some clutched stuffed animals, some clutched each other, others still clutched their mothers. Deeper in the crowd, children sat atop their parents shoulders. The children gaped up at them in awe, cheering for what they thought was true love. Claire envied them for the blindness of youth they still had.
Several people waved as they cheered, and though Claire thought it strange, she waved back along with Loki.
“Lady Claire of Midgard has long labored for the good of the people of her homeland, and has graciously agreed to join our royal family to continue her work for the good of Asgard.” Odin announced, prompting another chorus of cheers.
“Laying it on a little thick, isn’t he?” Claire murmured to Loki.
“He means to make you look honorable, and desirable. You need the help,” Loki replied placidly, glancing down at her. “Remember to smile.” Claire plastered on a fake smile, pinching Loki’s arm between the plates of his armor.
“Don’t tell me what to do.” she hissed through her teeth.
“My mother bid me help you, and I’m doing just that.”
“Would you like to criticize anything else?” Claire huffed. “You’re not exactly being helpful.”
“Oh dear, will you tell on me to my mother?” Loki asked, looking away from the people he was waving to with a genuine grin. The peachy tone on her lips was rather fetching, now that he’d taken the time to notice it.
“If I thought it would help.”
“Goodness, I’m frightened,” Loki said sarcastically, enjoying the flare of anger her pursed lips betrayed.
“In one month’s time,” Odin announced from his place beside them, either unaware of their tiff or uncaring. “Lady Claire and my son shall wed, and Asgard will have its first princess in an age!” More cheers erupted from the streets below, nearly drowning out Loki’s request.
“Give me your hand.”
“No.”
“Woman-” Loki stopped himself, his lips pursing angrily before he fixed his intense gaze on her. “Give me your hand.”
“You want it, you grab it.” Claire wasn’t about to play nice when he’d been a jerkwad all day. Even if he did look really hot in the armor.
“Fine,” Loki muttered, his hand darting out to grab hers. His hand was warm as it clasped around her fingers, his other hand snaking around her waist to pull her toward him. Outwardly, it would have looked gentle, but annoyed as he was Loki pulled hard enough to nearly make her stumble into him. What the hell is he doing? “My lady.” Claire was utterly surprised when Loki cradled her hand like a precious gem and brought it to his lips. Her eyes widened when he pressed his lips to her knuckles. Claire’s stomach flipped like it was on a roller coaster, her cheeks growing warm as her breath caught in her throat. Oh what the hell is this? Loki’s eyes danced with mischief as he glanced up at her, as if he knew what he was doing to her. Butterflies took flight in her belly and Claire swallowed thickly, doing her best to stay calm despite her thundering heart when they were ushered back inside. Settle down, you idiot. You do not have feelings for this arrogant ass.
“Well done,” Frigga praised as they stepped inside. The doors were closed behind them and Loki released her. Claire’s eyes met his for a brief moment before she stepped away with shaky knees. What the fuck was wrong with her? Get it together you dumb bitch. Loki gave her a knowing grin and Claire’s stomach dropped. Damn it, he knows!
Claire beat a hasty retreat to the feast hall, not even waiting for Phil. Her cheeks burned and her stomach butterflies wouldn’t stop fluttering. She wasn’t about to stick around so Loki could pick on her. The smug bastard.
By the time everyone else arrived, Claire was on her second glass of wine. The chair to her left scraped against the stone floor and Loki settled beside her with annoying grace. Claire and Phil struck up conversation while he sulked in silence.
“Are you attempting for five this night?” Loki suddenly asked. Claire didn’t answer, her mind a jumble all over again. What the fuck was that-what the FUCK was that?!
“What the fuck was that?” she asked sharply, setting her empty goblet down with a pointed clink. Claire asked Loki, but she also asked herself. It wasn’t like her to have reactions like that.
“What was what?” Loki sighed.
“That,” Claire hissed. “Out there.”
“It’s called a kiss,” Loki rolled his eyes, signaling for a drink of his own. “I’d thought your planet uncivilized before, but honestly-”
“That’s not what I meant and you know it.” Silence settled between them heavily as a servant filled their goblets. Claire was the first to move, allowing the sweet liquid to linger on her tongue.
“Have I upset you?” Something in Loki’s tone made Claire look up from her drink. To her surprise he looked genuinely unsettled. “Do you feel I took liberties?”
“No,” Claire shook her head and relief washed over Loki’s face. “I just wasn’t expecting it. Why did you-”
“At events like that, you play to the crowd,” Loki shrugged. “The people know our marriage is arranged, but rumors of true love abound to no end.”
“’True love’?” Claire scoffed. “People still believe in that garbage?” Loki shrugged. “Do you believe in it?”
“In true love?” he chuckled. “Certainly not. When I was a child, perhaps. Who doesn’t wish for someone to love them unconditionally? But it is a falsehood like everything else.”
“I’ll drink to that.” Claire tipped her goblet toward him before taking a sip. She hoped they served dinner soon; she needed food to catch up with her wine.
“How is it you managed to function today, if I may ask?” Loki peered at her over his goblet. “I don’t know many humans who could handle that much wine.”
“Do you think today was my first hangover?” Claire laughed. “I’ll have you know that I’m an expert at functioning when I feel like dying.” Loki huffed in amusement.
“Did you at least enjoy meeting the other ladies at court?”
“That’s one word for it,” Claire replied. “They’re obsessed with Thor. He showed up and they were practically falling over themselves to talk to him.”
“Typical,” Loki groused. “They have no shame.”
“They have no sense.” Loki laughed along with her, their eyes meeting as they enjoyed their private joke. Loki really was an attractive man, with those intense green eyes and sharp cheekbones. And soft lips.
Loki didn’t know what to make of Claire just yet. She baffled him at every turn, it seemed. She was mad at him for this and that, but the way she looked at him sometimes (like she was now) made Loki think she was mad because she wanted to kiss him. Or perhaps kill him.
Loki settled back into his seat, lifting his goblet to take a sip of wine as dinner was finally served.
He had plenty of time to figure her out.
Your room was dark and cold. The curtains were shut leaving a small sliver of light shining from the cityscape outside. There was a stillness in the air from being untouched the last two weeks. “Now, where did she put you?” Loki hummed while looking around your room. He wandered in, using the access code you had given him. His prying eyes scanned and noted how orderly you left your room. And even after some time away, the room still smelled like you. Like citrus blooms on a winter morning.
Loki lent you some practice daggers a while ago and was keen to get them back. They were dull and lightweight. Perfect for beginner enthusiasts like the Widow, who wanted to add a new skill to her ledger. Whom Loki had promised to train, alongside you, in Asgardian combat.
Loki rummaged through your bookshelves, thinking you might have stashed them along with your books and souvenirs from your travels. He knew you loved to read. Your voracious appetite for mysteries and novels rivaled his own. He noted Robert Frost and Agatha Christie situated alongside the many romance novels.
Peculiar, he thought. He’d never known you to be interested in such fiction. You two had always discussed classic literature or Asgardian poetry. A Cheshire grin appeared on his face as he took a book with brightly colored Post-it notes sticking out of the top pages. He opened the paperback to a dog-eared page that was clearly read and reread extensively.
Lucy moaned as Cade’s fingers dipped inside her wet pussy. Trills of pleasure ran up her spine, making her unable to stand any longer. He gently stroked her as he whispered on her neck, “Don’t fight it, baby. Let go for me.”
Loki shut the book closed with wide eyes and a wider grin on his face. “Well, well, well. Who knew that the Avenger’s little darling liked to read smut?!” He said to himself looking at the volumes of romance books you had. He was quite impressed by your ability to surprise him. He thought he had you figured out. He might have to tease you about this when you return from your mission.
Loki searched your closet next, but he couldn’t find the daggers. He combed through hangers of clothing and shelves of shoe boxes till he stumbled upon several silk bags with rope tie enclosures. One bag had the length and shape of the daggers he was searching for. How sweet of her to care for the daggers and stash them in a silk purse. Loki opened the bag and reached in but was again surprised at what he found.
He pulled out a black, patent leather collar with a gold buckle. Glistening under the bright closet light, was a heart-shaped tag, hanging from the center. The name ‘Darling’ was inscribed in cursive. Stunned, Loki looked inside the sateen bag and pulled out what he mistook for his daggers- a short, riding crop that matched the patent leather of the collar. Hanging from the handle was a gold chain that had a tag etched, ‘Darling’s Master.’
An intrusive fantasy came unbidden in his mind. It was of you on all fours, with the collar adorning your neck and him standing behind you rubbing the tip of the crop against your dripping heat. “What other deliciousness are you hiding, my dear?” he whispered as he stowed the collar and whip and reached for another silk purse. Every bag he opened had a different set of negligees. Each one was more lascivious than the last.
The smile on his lips got darker as his body started responding to the different scenarios playing in his head. Each scene- novel and unique, to the set of lingerie he opened. More than once, he had to stop himself from reaching inside and rubbing the fine lace between his fingers. “Nope! No,” he chided himself. “Focus. I’m here for the daggers.” Loki took one last look and walked away before he could swipe one of your lace panties and put it in his back pocket like some pervert. “Daggers. Daggers…where are you daggers…”
He couldn’t stop smiling at the revelation he found. Memories of his last interaction with you played in his head under a new context. It was as if he was seeing you in a different light. Truth be told, he did always find you attractive. But he never once pursued it thinking it wouldn’t be favored by you, or any of the team. You didn’t get the title “The Avenger’s Little Darling” for nothing. You were beloved by all. And he was the untrustworthy, extra baggage that the team had to deal with so they could have Thor on their side.
He knew he couldn’t have you.
One last place he looked was your bedside table. If it’s not here, she must have taken them with her. Opening the drawer, Loki shouldn’t have been surprised at what he found, but he felt an exhilarating chill crawl throughout his body, nonetheless. A vibrator. A large, blue, silicone toy that was tapered at the end, was resting neatly inside. You naughty little minx.
Loki couldn’t help the state of arousal he was in. He stood up and stared at your toy, his fingers running puzzled against his lips. He imagined you spread on your bed, lost in the throes of your passion. What do you think about when you have your toy tucked inside your wet cunt? Who’s name do you moan when you’re at the edge of your climax about to fall? And how can he conspire to make sure you think of him?
Surprised, Loki looked up as he heard the keypad of your door unlocking. In a senseless rush, he closed your drawer and cloaked himself invisible. He didn’t want anyone to find him snooping around your belongings. He stood still as he blended with the shadows of your room.
He shouldn’t have hid. You did give him the access code to your room. You trusted him enough to be in here. But there was something so intimate about the things he found. He felt exposed and guilty. Loki didn’t want anyone to think of him being nefarious with you.
A small sigh of relief flooded him when he realized it was you, back from your assignment. He opened his mouth to speak and announce his presence, but he couldn’t. So many questions rushed through his mind. He wanted to ask all of them! Yet, he was struck immovable by your presence.
Had you always been so lovely? Had your eyes always been that bright and alluring? Your smile, an invitation for his lips?
Were his discoveries about you finally shedding light as to who you might be, underneath the perfect façade you seem to have cultivated for yourself? Everything he found was, he swore to the gods, erotic and arousing. But it was the fact that you surprised him that made his level of attraction to you grow.
You walked in with a heavy sigh, setting your duffel bag down on your bed and your boots onto the floor. You didn’t bother turning on your lights, as you zipped your body suit down and peeled off your armor. A rather tame set of black lace underwear shaped your body. Your exposed skin turned a rich shade in the darkness of your room.
Loki noted some bruises and scars peppering your body. The fresh welts were colored green and blue indicating they were recent and most likely acquired from your latest mission. You massaged your neck and rolled your shoulders trying to ease the ache settling into your bones.
Loki watched as you made your way, routinely, to your en suite and turned on the lights. A loud rush of water from the shower rumbled through, disturbing the silence that had enveloped you both. It took his entire strength as a god to keep standing where he was and not follow you to watch.
New fantasies came unbidden in his mind of you naked and wet in the shower. I need to leave. I need to depart before I do something that both of us would regret.  He waited till he heard you close your shower door. The water made loud splashes as it hit against different curves of your body.
A few more minutes and Loki found he could move again. With a shaky breath, he exhaled and made his way to your door. He would’ve continued if it weren’t for your small sighs. Soft moans and whimpers traveled to his god-like hearing. She’s touching herself?!
Loki balled his fist to elicit pain. His fingernails dug deep into the pad of his palms, trying to overcome the overwhelming state of arousal he was in.
“…Loki…”
He stopped and nearly fell to his knees. You said his name! The honeyed tones of your moans dripped over him. Coating his entire body in primal need until it reached his cock and hardened.
He couldn’t leave now. He wouldn’t. He turned on his heel and slowly lifted his cloak, risking everything by pushing the door slightly more open.
Loki licked his lips at the sight of you lost in your orgasm. Your head was thrown back as water trickled down your body. The droplets guiding his eyes down…
…down…
…to where your fingers played with your aching cunt. Your hands explored your curves. Every dip. Every hollow. Every scrumptious mound that he wanted to devour himself.
He stood at your en suite door, his arms holding the frame above his head. He didn’t trust himself to come closer to you. Not until you allowed it. Not until you saw how his eyes became ravenous at the sight of you touching yourself to thoughts of him.
“Loki!? What the hell are you doing?” you screamed out, startled. His eyes traveled back up to yours as you finally acknowledged his presence. Your body turned flush from the heat of the water and the embarrassing situation you found yourself in.
Loki freed himself from your door and tried to answer. Nothing came out but a quivering breath and a small growl of desire. His eyes narrowed and he bit his lip. He took a step forward and closed your bathroom door behind him making your heart drop.  He slowly made his way to you. Sluggish feet carrying him across your tiled floors. “Don’t stop on my account, Darling.”
“Why are you here?” you demanded.
“I heard you call out my name. And I am nothing if not a benevolent god who answers your prayers.” It was as if a switch was turned on and Loki couldn’t stop until he had you.
He watched you back into the tile of your shower. You looked like a caged animal put there for his viewing pleasure. “Why are you here?!” you repeated. It’s too late to be demure. He’s seen everything.
“I came looking for the daggers I lent you. I looked everywhere in your room. I couldn't find them.” Loki’s voice was deep but clear. You could hear the dangerous desire in his tone as he reached for the door to your shower. On instinct, you reached for the handle, stopping him from opening it.
The chase became real. He had to have you. The last hour he spent combing through your suggestive belongings had built a naughty little version of you in his head. Like a puzzle. It was the most erotically charged moment he’d ever spent. And now? Now, you were denying him!
“Last chance, Darling. If you want me to leave now, say so,” he said with a smile. “But I promise you this. I won’t stop till I have you.” His breath steamed the glass doors. Your heart pounded inside your chest as you looked into his dark eyes.
You let go of the handle and stepped back. Loki opened the door slowly, anticipation building up and pooling in between your thighs. “Good girl.”
Loki walked into your shower, still clothed. The scalding water penetrated through his white cotton shirt making it translucent under the spray. You could trace the lines of his muscle underneath.  His hair became slick and affixed itself against his face. He towered over you, as he leaned over with one arm against the shower wall.
Fuck!
He lowered his face. His nose brushed against the tip of yours and you could taste his breath against your lips. “What were you thinking about?” he asked looking deep into your eyes. “And remember, I can tell when you’re lying.”
You quivered at his voice. You looked down embarrassed. “No, no. Look at me.” He said grabbing your chin and forcing you to look back at him. He kept his fingers on your face, gently stroking your jaw.
“I was thinking about you,” you admitted. Your voice was so small. You felt so fragile in his hands.
“Go on, sweet thing. What prayer can your god answer for you tonight?” he encouraged. You were mesmerized by his stare. His voice lulled you to a sense of heat and longing.
“I pictured…touching you,” you started. “I fantasized about your body holding mine.” Loki licked his lips and the tip of his tongue brushed against your mouth. It tingled and the sensation moved throughout your body, awakening every cell within it.
“Like this?” he asked, grabbing your hand gently and placing it underneath his soaked shirt. He guided your hand up his torso and held it there. You could feel his heart thumping in his chest as he guided you over his stiff nipple and then down his lean abs.
Loki didn’t take his eyes off you once. He watched how your eyes widened at his boldness. How your lips parted when you finally touched him. How your whole body moved just a fraction closer to him, capturing him in a lust-filled haze of his own.
He continued steering your hand down his body, past the hem of his pants to his aching bulge. He was big. And hard. You couldn’t imagine what he would look like, what he would feel like, once he took it out. He kept your hand on his cock, driving your hand up and down. “Keep your hand on me,” he instructed. The steam from the shower did little to prevent the shiver that ran down your spine. Nor did it hide the wetness that was now dripping from you.
“Can you feel how hard I am for you?” his arms encircled your body, pulling you closer to him. His mouth incased your lips in an uncontrollable kiss. He weaved his deft fingers into your wet hair, pulling your head back to kiss you at a deeper angle.  He inhaled deeply, smelling the clean scent of your soap and shampoo.
He groaned into your mouth when he felt your hand reach inside his pants and squeeze him tightly. Loki’s eyes rolled back as you expertly palmed his stiff cock. You felt the veins pulsing in your fingertips as you pumped his dick mercilessly. He leaned over you, caging you between the wall and his eager body.
“Don’t stop, Darling,” he whimpered in your ear. “Don’t stop.” Loki bucked his hips into your hands. He captured your lips one last time before he moaned your name, releasing the pent-up arousal he’d been holding in. He fell apart in your hands, and you continued till you milked every last drop from him.
Before the water could wash away your efforts, you licked off two of your fingers, tasting his offerings. “There she is,” he said with a devilish grin. He was waiting for the real you to come forth. You seemed so demure and shy at the beginning. Nothing at all like what he found out you were. The one who reads erotic novels over and over again. The one who hides their toy on the bedside table, ready to go. The one who has a patent leather collar with their pet name etched into it.
Loki growled at the memory. He will see you in that collar. He’ll make sure of it. “But for now, I want a taste,” he said to himself. Loki started with your mouth, sampling himself in your kiss. You winced slightly when he reached for your waist. Reacting from a sensitive bruise that you acquired from your mission.
“Do you think your body can handle a couple more bruises from me, Darling?” he asked earnestly. You swallowed thickly and nodded. Loki proceeded to grab your hips and hold you in place, while his mouth eagerly marked your neck. He continued down to the base of your throat as he knelt in front of you. He captured your breasts with his tongue, paying them each attention. Your hands rested on his shoulders, gathering the white cotton in your hands as you fisted it.
When he reached your stomach, he was gentle and sweet. His hands secured your waist, pushing you slightly higher. “Wrap your leg around me,” he directed. You obeyed and placed your left leg on his shoulder.
Drips of water still fell from the shower. Loki licked and slurped each drop that fell onto your thighs. He flattened his tongue and licked a wide stripe on your warm cunt. “Fuck…Loki,” you screamed when he latched onto your nub, flicking it with the tip of his tongue. He looked up at you and watched you as you threw your head back, your ecstasy showing through.
“Did you like that, Darling?”
“Mmyes,” you whined. “God, yes!”
Loki repeated his actions, holding onto your thigh, as he savored your clit. You couldn’t hold yourself up any longer. Your knees were weakening, and you had nothing to hold onto as your hands slipped against the tile of your shower wall. “Loki, please,” you panted.
“I need to be inside you,” he moaned. The sooner he can make you cum in here, the sooner he can properly bed you on top of your sheets. He looked deep into your eyes and you almost didn’t recognize him. Hunger and desperation were hanging on his brows. The sight of him in between your legs, the feel of his lips latching onto your folds, the weight of his fingers thrusting inside you. It was all-encompassing and all too consuming.
“Oh, God! Loki!” you screamed as he inserted another finger. You laced your hand through his drenched hair, pulling every time his tongue flicked your nub. “Please, I need you inside me too. I need…” your breathing came in harsher. The steam almost suffocating you as you come closer and closer to that edge, waiting to fall.
“Don’t fight it, Darling. Let go for me,” Loki quoted your book, making you clench around his fingers. One last thrust into you and you screamed your release. Loki lapped up your swollen pussy with a greedy smile, making you shudder.
Tumblr media
Hours later, you and Loki were lying on the floor of your room. Blankets and pillows surround you while your legs and arms tangle with each other, holding each other tightly. You were running your finger up and down his chest as he read aloud a passage from one of your “smutty romance books,” as he called them.
His voice was magnetic and hypnotizing. Every word he said came to life inside your head. “Hmm, we might have to re-enact this one,” he teased after he finished a scene.
“Yes, sir,” you whispered, hoping he didn’t hear the last word you said. It just came out. You couldn’t stop yourself from saying it. From bending to his will and wanting to please him.
“I was curious about something,” he grinned, biting his lip. “Which I hope you can enlighten me...”
“Yes?”
“When I was looking for the daggers, I came across this.” He conjured up your patent leather collar and held it up against the dim light. He next conjured up the matching riding crop and showed you the tag that was hanging from the handle. “Who was your master?” Loki asked, unsure whether he wanted to know the answer. “Why do you have this and not them?”
“I never had one,” you admitted sheepishly. “I bought that in hopes of using it one day. But we never worked out.”
“I see,” he said with a devious smirk.
“It was so pretty. I couldn’t just get rid of it.”
“Sit up. Hold your hair, while I put this on you.” You obeyed his instructions. A pool of desire is already forming in between your legs as he tightens the collar around your neck. The heart-shaped tag, ‘Darling’ felt heavy and cold as he placed it neatly on the base of your throat.
Loki wiped his thumb over the tag of the whip. Newly etched, in bold letters, was his name instead. “Well, it’s mine now, darling,” he grinned as he tested the switch on his hand. The sharp thwack stung his palm. Your heart started beating quicker.
“On your knees,” he growled.
“Yes, sir.”
Silly Traditions, One Shot
Summary: Loki thinks Christmas is ridiculous and a waste of time. Until you surprise him with a gift, then he finds that perhaps it's not all that bad after all.
Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful time. x
-
Loki rolled his eyes from the corner of the room as the Avengers team all began sharing presents between one another. Minus Thor, who had gone back to Asgard for a few days without Loki, as he was in exile so couldn’t return to Asgard yet.
Loki thought that Thor likely would have been the only one to gift him something on this tedious mortal holiday, since he always tried to include him. The team didn’t trust him yet, and he couldn’t really blame them after what he did in New York. Though he was trying, but his mischievous streak kept peeking out, which didn’t help matters much. Even if he meant no harm really, he just enjoyed mischief too much.
While he was beginning to adjust to living in the compound, he hadn’t really warmed up to any of the team yet. Although there was one person he found himself often leaning towards, that he had a soft spot for, who didn’t cringe or seem to be irritated by his mere presence… You.
You’d been living with the team for about a year, so knew them all pretty well by now. Of course, what Loki did was bad, and at first you had been a bit scared of him when he first arrived four months ago as punishment from Odin, to make amends. Though as time went on, you found yourself laughing along at his mischievous antics, you even managed to get some decent conversation out of him. You were the only one, aside from Thor, that included him wherever possible.
What had helped him get into your good books rather quickly was when your cat, Mittens, was stuck up a tree just a few weeks after he’d arrived, you were frantic with worry but the rest of the team were more dog people and said that the cat would get down on her own. You knew your cat though, she was well and truly stuck and she was too high up for you to reach her. Loki had been the only one that helped, he levitated up and carefully brought your precious darling back down into your arms.
You’d been so grateful for that, and Mittens took a shine to Loki straight away too. You often found Loki sitting in the library with Mittens on his lap while he read a book, though you’d made sure to stay hidden as your heart melted at the sight.
Loki couldn’t deal with watching more of the sight of people gushing over such stupid gifts, so he made his way towards the door to go elsewhere. Though he stopped in his tracks when he heard footsteps rushing towards him and he heard you call out his name.
‘Loki!’
He turned slowly towards you, noticing your cheeks were a little flushed as you shifted nervously on front of him.
‘Merry Christmas, Loki.’ You said as you held up a present towards him.
Loki raised his eyebrows in surprise. ‘You got me a gift?’ He couldn’t hide the surprise in his voice, though he really wasn’t sure how to feel about it.
‘Of course. It’s from me and Mittens.’ You smiled brightly up at him.
For the first time in a long time, he felt his heart melt a little at the fact someone else had thought about him in such a way, perhaps not all mortals were so bad after all... Though as he began peeling open the wrapping paper, he shook the thought from his head, it would no doubt be something stupid and meaningless, something that would just get re-gifted or left in the bottom of the cupboard somewhere…
He completely regretted thinking what he did when the present was revealed to him, becoming utterly speechless for once in his life.
‘I… can’t believe you got this for me.’ He gasped out as he lifted up the beautiful personalised dagger. It had an emerald handle with his name carved into it.
‘Do you like it?’ You asked, uncertain, because he was quite difficult to read, though he did seem surprised you weren’t sure if it was a good surprise or a bad one.
‘I love it. I can’t thank you enough.’ He then had a genuine smile, one of the most genuine smiles on him you’d seen.
‘I’m so glad you like it… Though I have to admit, I did get some help from Thor. I don’t really know you that well, but wanted to make sure I got you something that you’d actually use or like. Not something that would just be shoved in a drawer and forgotten somewhere.’ You admitted, still blushing a little.
Loki tilted his head slightly and let out a small chuckle, he was incredibly warmed at the gift and didn’t really know how to react.
‘It is not often that someone can make me so speechless. I am really grateful for this gift, thank you. Truly.’ He picked up your hand and kissed the back of it, making your blush worsen as you felt your skin tingling from his lips.
You were called back by the others, but not before asking Loki a question. ‘Are you joining the Christmas party tonight?’
Loki scrunched his nose up a little. ‘I wasn’t planning to.’
‘Oh, ok…’ You tried not to sound too disappointed, you knew he wasn’t overly fond of things like that.
‘Although… I regret that I do not have a gift for you in return. So, if my presence would make up for that, and perhaps a dance, then I will consider joining?’ Loki asked with a charming smile, his heart quickened slightly at the way your face lit up entirely from his words.
‘It certainly would make up for it.’ You smirked at him.
Loki found himself grinning right back at you. What on earth was coming over him? He mentally face-palmed himself as he retreated from the room.
He found he was a little obsessed with his gift from you. It was perfect for him, and with the personal touch… he just couldn’t believe it.
-
You joined the Christmas party that night, you’d picked out a nice green sequin dress. So looked nice and Christmassy as the lights glistened off all the sequins. As usual for parties, Tony had gone all out. Especially with it being a Christmas party, so there were decorations everywhere. A DJ and plenty of alcohol.
After a few drinks, you felt the disappointment hit you slightly as there was no sign of Loki. You figured he would decide against coming, but you didn’t take it to heart really, as you knew this wasn’t his style. He’d made it clear in the weeks leading up to Christmas that he thought it was a load of rubbish, a pointless holiday with stupid traditions.
Though as you were enjoying your third cocktail, you felt a tingle run down your spine when you heard a smooth, warm voice from behind you call your name. Turning around, you couldn’t hide the big smile that spread across your face as you gazed up at Loki.
He was wearing a black suit with a green and white striped tie. You always thought him handsome, but you found yourself struggling to form any proper thoughts right now.
‘Loki… I’m so glad you decided to come.’ You eventually managed to blurt out under his heated gaze.
‘Is this Christmassy enough, do you think?’ He smirked and motioned to his tie.
‘It’s perfect.’ You giggled a little.
‘I must say, you look beautiful… Especially in that colour.’ He said as he eyed you up and down.
‘Thank you, Loki.’
Your heart was racing just with him being here. You did have a crush on him, and had done for a little while. You thought he would never reciprocate that crush, since he was a God after all. Though you would certainly enjoy whatever you got from tonight when he asked for your hand to dance.
It was a Christmas song that was playing, so it was a fun dance. Loki spun you about and he seemed to actually be enjoying himself. He liked the way you laughed as he twirled you and the way you blushed hard when he slipped his arm around your waist to bring you in close to him.
Even though Loki was the God of mischief and lies, he would be lying to himself if he said he didn’t care about you… and if he said he didn’t find you beautiful. He was beginning to think that perhaps you felt something for him, with giving him such a thoughtful gift and the way you kept blushing around him, plus wearing his colours tonight. So he decided it was now or never to try and make a move.
He swiftly danced you towards the side of the room, even though no one was really paying any attention to the two of you anyway. You wondered what he was up to, but didn’t think much of it.
Until, that was, there was a distinct tingle of magic in the air, you could feel it on your skin as goosebumps rose on your arms and neck. Loki had that usual mischievous glint in his eyes whenever he was up to something, he looked up and stopped dancing.
‘Oh my, look what we’ve landed underneath.’ He mocked a gasp.
You looked up and laughed, there was mistletoe hanging right above the two of you. It was surrounded by a very light green haze, Loki’s signature mark.
‘Correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t it tradition for whoever ends up under the mistletoe to… kiss?’ He asked cheekily as he looked back at you with a smirk.
If he thought you were blushing earlier, you certainly were now. Your entire face was on fire as you nodded. ‘It uh… it is.’
‘Well, I wouldn’t want to be the one to break a Christmas tradition… may I?’ Loki asked as he stroked your cheek so softly.
As if you need to ask! You thought as you nodded, a bit over eagerly.
He slid his hand down to your chin, holding you in place as he dipped his head down towards you. You reached up on your tiptoes to meet him halfway as you closed your eyes, when your lips touched you both forgot about everyone else around you, nothing else mattered in that moment but the two of you.
Loki deepened the kiss for a moment, surprising but delighting you. You were on cloud nine.
When you both broke the kiss after a little while, you were glad to see that you weren’t the only one with red cheeks. Loki’s had a hint of red, too.
Loki chuckled and trailed his fingers against your cheek, then he tucked some of your hair behind your ear. ‘Well… perhaps some of your silly mortal traditions aren’t all that bad after all. I especially like this mistletoe tradition.’ He smiled widely at you.
‘Yeah… I think it’s my favourite too.’ You smiled just as widely back at him.
Loki's Silent Sentry (Part 1)
Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5 ( Part 6 in progress)
Pairing: Loki x female reader (y/n)
Summary: You are not just a soldier in Asgard's Royal Army, you are Lieutenant Y/L/N, Prince Loki's personal guard, his sentry and you are not supposed to fall in love with him. If you followed your training properly, you should never have even spoken to him. As a sentry, you are expected to remain silent and invisible as you shadow your appointed member of the royal family or member of the court protectively throughout their daily tasks.
Rumors (that happen to be true) begin to circulate through the palace that you serve the younger prince of Asgard both outside and inside his chambers. There is little you can do once word of your off duty activities spread through every maid, cook, gardener and seamstress in the palace. You soon find even the soldiers in your own company are now questioning how exactly you had come to earn your seemingly quick rise to lieutenant.
As the annual Winter Solstice Ball approaches, you come to the heartbreaking realization that your relationship with Loki must come to an end if you are both to fulfill your duties.
Warnings: Angst, arguing, Thor being an absolute ass, Odin being a terrible father
A/N: I did some googling quickly for military terms and ranks (since I have no previous knowledge of them) as well as some basic information about the royal guards in England. I took some of what I found interesting and then made up most of the rest to fit what I needed for my story so there will be some similarities. Also... I haven't written anything in like a year (maybe longer) so be nice please 💚💚
Tumblr media
You stand at constant attention in silence outside of Prince Loki's private office. You listen to the birds singing through the open window across the hall from where you are posted and wonder how long you could go without making a sound. You have been trained by the Royal Army for years to remain silent, vigilant, always listening and watching your surroundings for anything dangerous or out of the ordinary. You are always on guard, ready to protect Prince Loki should the need arise. Not that someone with his fighting skills or magic would need protection from a simple soldier like you. You were assigned this post purely because it was customary for each member of the royal family to have a sentry, whether they actually need one or not.
Your attention is drawn to the sound of footsteps approaching from your left. You are unable to determine how many people are coming but judging by their pace and heavy boots, they are most likely all soldiers. Commandant Thorn, the soldier in charge of your company, makes his way down the hall at a steady pace. He is followed by your captain, Captain Skye who is holding a leather bound book containing the names of all the sentries and their current posts. Trailing the two older men, are four low ranking soldiers you can't remember the names of.
The group of soldiers comes to a stop in front of you and your fellow guard and you both salute your commanding officers. "Lieutenant Y/L/N," Captain Skye says, opening his book for a moment. He closes it and looks up at you, "Prince Loki will of course be attending the Winter Solstice Ball. You will be required to escort him to the ballroom and remain on guard there until he dismisses you for the evening."
You nod in response, carefully hiding the heavy emotions you have surrounding the upcoming ball. The soldiers move on and you are left alone with the other guard again. She says nothing to you and even if you were allowed to speak, you know Sergeant Sands wouldn't talk to you. She is not your friend, none of the members of the Royal Guard are your friends. It wasn't always this way though, it is only since you were promoted to the rank of lieutenant that the guards you work with began to distance themselves from you.
You had been assigned to Prince Loki for three months when you were promoted from sergeant to lieutenant. Your fellow soldiers immediately assumed the young prince had a hand in it as he did little to hide how he favored you over the other guards who were previously assigned to him. The rumors about you spending the night in Loki's chamber instead of guarding it flowed through the palace soon after. You adamantly denied these rumors and any favoritism from the prince but it was a wasted effort. It also happened that the rumors were true to a point.
The door to Loki's office opens and you stand at attention as the court accountant exits, holding several rolls of paper and mumbling to himself. Sargeant Sands follows him without any orders needed, she is his sentry and will go where he goes. As she walks past by, she glances at you with what can only be described as a look of disgust. You look down at your boots, fully aware of what she is thinking.
You wait quietly for Loki to open the door again but you know him, he will want to read through all of his notes from today before he finalizes his meeting schedule for tomorrow. You have roughly half an hour until he will be done, half an hour to stand here and think about the dreaded Winter Solstice Ball.
Tumblr media
Another half an hour later, as expected, Loki opens the door and walks out. Waving his hand towards the door, he uses his magic to seal the room. He smiles warmly at you and you smile back at him for the first time today. This was your favorite part, the part where the sun goes down and Loki frees you from your constant silence.
He touches your cheek softly and leans in to kiss you. You kiss him back but pull away quickly as you hear footsteps approaching. You step away from Loki and stand at attention as Prince Thor comes around a corner. You keep your eyes straight ahead but you can feel Loki stiffening next to you, he and his brother get along much better when they are at court than they do in private.
The brothers greet each other politely and you silently wish the older prince would simply continue on his way but it doesn't seem likely. Your attention shifts to the window across the hall from you again, you can just barely glimpse the sunset over the tall evergreen trees in the distance. You know Loki will tell you if he and Thor discuss anything interesting so there is no need for you to listen to their conversation. The two of them continue for several long minutes before you realize Thor has said something to you.
"Lieutenant Y/L/N?" Thor says and you shake your head as you shift your focus.
"I'm sorry your highness, I was unaware you were speaking to me," you apologize. He had never spoken to you before and you were unsure why he would start now. Loki folds his arms across his chest and you feel uneasy at how annoyed he seems.
Thor laughs which does nothing to make you feel better. "I was wondering what it was about you that made you my brother's favorite," he says. "You must truly be special, a sentry's post typically only lasts three months, perhaps six at the most. You have been with Loki for how long now?"
You think for a moment before replying. You had been assigned to Loki for only a month before he first spoke to you and you had quickly become close friends. Three months after becoming friends with the prince, you slowly became more until you were completely in love with him.
"Fourteen months," you answer him in as few words as possible.
Thor looks at his younger brother with a smirk, "Fourteen?" Loki remains silent and you can tell his older brother is not even close to letting you leave soon. He turns his attention to you again, "So is it true then?"
"Is what true your highness?" you ask quietly.
"That you follow my brother's orders when you are wearing your armor and when you are not?" he laughs and his sentry smiles then looks towards the ground. "I could use a sentry like that, I grow tired of being followed by these shadows."
Loki's fist clenches but he answers Thor calmly. "Maybe if you learned your sentries name and weren't so insufferable to be around, they would remain at your service for longer than a month at a time," Loki says. "And you are the last person I would expect to listen to palace rumors. According to the most recent ones I've heard, you've slept with nearly half of the kitchen staff this month alone."
Thor smiles, proud of himself. You and Loki realize the stories you had overheard were true, if not understated. He explains, "That is why I assume the rumors of you and your little pet are true as well."
You find yourself in that brief moment wishing Loki would confirm everyone's suspensions. Not necessarily that you were sleeping together, that you were in love and wanted to be together. You know wishing for this is as useful as wishing it would rain gold. Once again you remind yourself that this is the way it will always be, until he marries a woman of high status and you are forgotten.
Instead of responding, Loki turns from his brother and walks down the hall towards the stairwell that leads to the royal family's chambers. You follow him silently, staying a few steps behind as always.
"Come now brother, I was merely joking," Thor calls from behind you but neither of you stop walking.
The two of you continue on in silence until you reach the top of the stairs and Loki's pace slows so he is walking next to you. His hand finds yours, his thumb gently stroking your knuckles. As soon as you feel his touch, you begin to relax.
"I'm sorry about my brother," he says quietly.
"His behavior isn't your fault," you reply. "And he is far from the first person to corner me about our relationship. I am used to denying the truth."
He stops, causing you to turn back towards him, your hand still holding his. He then takes a few small steps, closing the distance between you. Loki touches your cheek gently with his other hand. "I'm sorry Y/N," he tells you again. "I wish we didn't have to hide but you know there are some rules even I cannot break so openly. Maybe I should have hid my favoritism towards you better but I couldn't bear to have you reassigned. You mean too much to me."
You smile, "So I am your favorite sentry?"
He lets out a laugh, "You are my favorite person in the nine realms." You giggle at his answer and his fingers trail down your cheek until his thumb gently runs across your lips. He leans down to kiss you but just as his lips touch yours, you feel your heart jumps in your chest.
You hear several sets of footsteps and separate yourself from Loki in an instant. He looks down the hall as his mother, two of her maids and one guard come into view. She smiles brightly at both of you as she comes closer and you bow to the queen in respect. You find it hard to miss the side eye from her sentry or the whispers shared between her maids. Loki gives his mother a hug and wishes her a goodnight. She tells him to have a goodnight as well and continues on her way.
You and Loki walk off in the opposite direction towards his chambers and once you are alone again, Loki moves to take your hand but you flinch away. He looks hurt by your momentary rejection but he doesn't say anything. He knows how nervous you are about being seen touching him or speaking to him. You round the next corner and are flooded with relief as Loki's door finally comes into view. You fight the urge to smile, holding onto your composure as you've been trained.
Loki opens the door and steps inside, you follow him as you always do and he closes the door. He flicks his wrists towards you without a word and the heavy armor you wear over your clothing instantly settles itself neatly into a large chest. You take a few deep breaths, feeling as if most of the weight you have been carrying leaves you, but not all.
"Thank you your highness," you say out of habit.
"Please, never call me that in here," he reminds you gently. "In here I'm not a prince, I'm just Loki." He walks towards you and you don't realize you are moving away from him until your back hits the door and his body comes flush to yours. One hand settles on your hip while his other hand lifts your chin, causing you to look up at him. He continues, "And you are not Lieutenant Y/L/N, you are Y/N. The woman I am so deeply in love with." He smiles and you can't help but smile back at his words. All your worries vanish the instant his lips meet yours.
Tumblr media
You lay in Loki's arms watching the sunlight fill his room through the sheer curtains. You try to memorize the sound of his slow, steady breathing and the feel of his heart beat against your back as he holds you even in his sleep. You inhale deeply and focus on deciphering every herb and oil Loki uses to keep his hair soft. Closing your eyes, you use your senses to bring an image of Loki's face into your mind and try to hold it there.
"What are you thinking about my love?" he asks in a sleepy voice. You open your eyes and shift closer to him, pulling his arms tighter around your body. "Y/N, what's wrong?" he asks, now much more awake.
You swallow hard, trying to find the words. You had been thinking about what you needed to do most of the night but now that it was time, you weren't sure you would be able to do it.
"I've told you, you can speak freely here," he says softly, urging you gently as always to speak your mind when you were with him. His fingers move slowly up and down your arm as he tries to comfort you without knowing what is causing your distress.
"I need to transfer to a new post," you tell him. You hear him inhale sharply as his fingers suddenly go still.
Tumblr media
You stand outside Loki's office with Thor's new guard and two others in silence waiting for a very long meeting to conclude. You stifle a yawn and shift uncomfortably on your feet before regaining your composure. The tall guard standing across from you rolls his eyes while the woman next to him mumbles something that can only be about you.
It has been two days since you told Loki you wanted to transfer and you hadn't heard anything from your commanding officer. In the meantime, you decided to go back to sleeping in your assigned room at the soldiers quarters. You had forgotten how much you hated it there. The common areas are loud and there is little privacy, everyone is in everyone else's business. You barely leave your room, which is a surprise to no one. They wouldn't speak to you even if you did. You live in a world of utter silence surrounded by never ending noise.
You feel as if you are shattering from the inside out and you try to remind yourself that it needs to be this way. The two of you hid in his chambers as if it protected your relationship but it could never be real. How could it be when he could barely acknowledge your presence when in public. He is a prince and you are a soldier as were your parents, you were not high born. Loki is destined to marry the daughter of a council member and you will guard them and their children.
The door to Loki's office opens, you and the three guards stand at attention. Prince Thor walks out first, followed by two council members. They walk off in different directions, shadowed closely by their sentries but you remain, as always, at Loki's door.
Tumblr media
You stare at the wall in front of you for what feels like eternity. Your mind wanders between your favorite memories from your brief time with Loki and the crushing weight of your current reality. You stand up straighter when you hear the door swing open and Loki steps out.
"Lieutenant Y/L/N," he says, "I need to speak with you."
You nod and follow him into his office, closing the door behind you. You stand motionless, taking in his office and how much it feels like him. The dark wood bookshelves crowded with leather bound books, the chair pulled close to the window so he can see the garden below when drinking his afternoon tea, the green and gold accents on various pieces of furniture.
You sigh to yourself as you follow him to his desk. He takes a seat and you stand across from him with your arms behind your back, waiting for him to speak first.
"Y/N," he says informally but you don't relax. "Your transfer to a new post was not approved."
"Can I ask why your highness?" you keep the formalities as you've been trained.
"The Winter Solstice Ball is in less then a week," he answers as if you could forget. "The Royal Guard seems to be too busy tightening security and preparing for everyone's arrival to complete your paper work at this time."
"Understood, your highness," you say. "I should return to my post." You turn to head back outside of his office.
"Wait," he calls and you freeze just before you reach the door. You hear him get up from his seat and walk around the desk. "Please stay, talk to me Y/N. I miss you so much it hurts."
"I can't," you say almost in a whisper
He touches your arm and you turn to face him, seeing the pain in his eyes. "I miss the way your laughter filled my chambers. I miss hearing you hum to yourself when you think I can't hear you. I miss the sound of your voice and how easy it is to talk to you," he says and you force down a smile and the urge to hold him tightly.
"I can't bear to be without you," he tells you and you want to tell him you can't be apart from him either but you remain silent for fear you'll lose your resolve completely. He strokes your cheek gently and you close your eyes as you lean into his touch. "I love you," he says.
"I love you too," you tell him, seeing a spark of hope light his eyes. You shake your head and take a step away from him, "But I can't do this. I'm sorry." Before he can say anything else you tell him, "It will only hurt more the longer we wait to end this."
"We don't have to end this, now or ever," he insists as he steps towards you. "I promise I will find a way for you to be mine, not just when we are hidden away, but always. You believe me, don't you?"
"I want to," you tell him truthfully. Loki had promised several times to find a way to marry you but you thought it was false hope. "But this isn't a fairytale my prince, we don't always get a happy ending."
Tumblr media
You want to disappear into the marble floor, to be sucked into the wall behind you or simply vanish into thin air but you can't. Instead, you must stand perfectly still and silent as you watch the dancing and merriment around you. You momentarily wish you would go back to a time when you didn't feel an ache in your chest at the mere thought of another woman being in Prince Loki's arms. Shaking your head just slightly, you chase away the thought. As much as this hurts, you will always cherish the limited time you shared with him.
The music changes tempo as the first of seven courses comes to an end. Couples begin to take to the open floor in the center of the ballroom. Prince Thor and Prince Loki make their way to the group of single, eligible women awaiting them, each at a different pace. The older prince seems to now exactly which woman he would like to spend time with first. He offers his arm to her and declares her the most beautiful woman at the ball, causing her to blush and giggle. The younger prince takes his time walking to the crowd and simply takes the hand of the closest woman without so much as glancing at her. His lack of interest does little to dampen her excitement however.
The dozen or so women who were not chosen move away from the dance area and you have to hold back a groan as they gather directly in front of you to wait for a chance with one of the princes. You can't help but listen to them discuss which prince they think is better looking or who they would prefer picked them. The first song ends and the two princes each select another dance partner. Again, Prince Thor takes little time deciding who he wants while Prince Loki simply offers his hand to the first woman he sees. You can practically hear him sigh as she holds his arm and walks quickly to the dance floor.
As the second song begins, one of the women briefly looks at you over her shoulder before motioning towards you to her friends. Your ears go red with embarrassment as she tells them the rumors of your past relationship with Loki just loud enough that she knows you will hear. Of course she gets the ending wrong. She assumes, like everyone else, that the prince grew tired of you and banished you from his bed chambers. You had to admit, it seemed a far more likely story than the truth.
You shift your attention to the ceiling for a moment, hoping that counting the candles in the chandeliers will distract you from their stares and comments. You only count to twenty seven before the sound of a glass shattering draws your gaze back to the guests. A council member laughs loudly, clearly drunk already, as a servant cleans the wine glass from the dance floor.
Your eyes scan the room and easily find Loki at the center of the crowd, a third woman in his arms. Your drawn to his face, studying his features. He smiles at the woman as he twirls her and she giggles but she doesn't know him like you do. She doesn't know that's the smile he uses at court, not the smile he shows you. Showed you, you correct yourself. He glances away, not holding eye contact with her as they move effortlessly across the dance floor.
Tumblr media
After the final course is served, the dance floor fills for the last time and you sigh with relief that the night is almost over. You shift on your feet, looking down for a moment when the chatter of the women in front of you begins again. Why must they stand here to wait, you think to yourself.
The princes once again make their way to their potential dance partners and Thor makes his pick quickly. Loki stands in front of the women for a moment and your eyes lock with his as he looks between them.
"Pardon me," he says politely to the crowd as he moves forward, slipping past the confused women. He makes his way towards you and your breath catches in your throat. He stands in front of you and holds out his hand. You look at him, stunned by his actions. He smiles when you don't move, "Will you dance with me, my love?" Still you remain silent, looking past Loki to see how much attention his actions have drawn. "Don't look at them," he says, touching your cheek softly as you look at him again.
You steady your nerves and place your hand in his. The moment his fingers close around yours, you are surrounded by a light cloud of green, shimmery smoke. When Loki's magic fades, you are wearing a flowing emerald green gown with golden trim, perfectly matching his dress uniform. Your hair has been restyled to hold a small gold tiara with short horns, mirroring the helmet he had worn during his entrance.
"Gods, you look gorgeous in my colors," he says with a wide smile, causing you to blush. "To be fair, you are always beautiful but now it is clear to everyone here that you are mine." You feel as if your heart might burst when he calls you his, he had said it before but only when you were hidden away.
Loki keeps his fingers interlaced with yours as he leads you to the dance floor, straight through the group of now very angry women. Some cross their arms, others give you dirty looks and several make rude comments as you pass. You pause before stepping onto the dance floor, the chatter and stares coming from the guests near you holding you back. He senses your hesitation and leans down to place a kiss gently on your cheek.
Your mind can barely begin to process what is happening as he takes you straight to the middle of the dance floor. He places one hand on your hip and you place your hand on his shoulder as you had done so many times over the last few months. You and Loki shared several secret dances in his chambers and his office, he found it difficult to listen to music sitting still.
He holds you close, his eyes never leaving yours while you dance between the other guests. You focus on how amazing it feels to be back in his arms, ignoring the strange looks and whispers that surround you. He twirls you gracefully and you spin back into him, giggling as you final feel at ease. As the song draws to a close, Loki spins you one final time. When he pulls you back to him, he leans down slightly and your lips meet his.
Tumblr media
You smile up at him, hoping this isn't a dream when you see his mother approaching you. You take a step away from Loki but he keeps his hand on your waist, not letting you go too far. You bow to the queen and she says, "I think it is my turn to dance with my son."
You nod quickly in agreement and Loki let's go of you, his magic fading instantly as your armor reappears. You walk through the crowd with your head down and return to your post, once again wishing you were invisible. The women watch you, gossiping wildly as you pass again. You can only imagine what they are saying but they are not your biggest concern at the moment.
Anxiously, you watch Queen Frigga and her son move across the dance floor. You can't hear what they are saying of course, but you can tell by her expression that there will be consequences for his actions. As the song ends you see your captain approach you and your stomach drops. Loki will not be the only one to be punished for choosing you.
"The king had summoned you to the throne room," he says in a stern voice. You nod in acknowledgement and when you look back towards the dance floor, Loki and his mother are gone.
✦ ─── ⊹ ─── • ° • ─ ☽ ─ • ° • ─── ⊹ ─── ✦
Hues of white and yellow flashed on the inside of Oliviette’s eyelids, barely conscious as she was dragged slowly across the stone. Every muscle tensed in anticipation of further injury, every rough surface scratched the bare skin on her arms, every vessel and artery throbbed as blood rushed to her wounds. Her body hung limp as she was pulled along, and her mind reeled as it tried to cling to consciousness.
“This is a mistake. We should be taking her to the Apotheosis and be done with her - not back to her cell where she’ll just escape again!”
“You heard what Caden said. He wants to present this one to Anathema when she finally arrives…”
That name was like a shock to Oliviette’s senses, instantly waking her up, turning her stomach and sending chills down her spine. She swallowed back a groan as her heavy eyelids heavily struggled to remain open; but even the faltering lantern light of the dungeon too much, and her weary pupils struggled to properly dilate.
Oliviette closed her eyes again, and she focused her efforts on listening instead. The heels of her boots scraped along the stone. The voices above her were callous and inconsiderate, as cold as the draft creeping into the dungeon and pricking maliciously at her skin. The collar of her tunic scrunched under the hands of her captors as they dragged her along; mercifully, they hadn’t noticed her waking up, allowing Oliviette to hear them speaking freely for the very first time.
“Rüzdæts. Anathema’s not coming,” the female voice snapped, her tone heavy with disdain and mockery. “Caden’s been promising that for weeks now, and what do we have to show for it?”
The male voice chuckled, the sound almost a sneer as it left his lips. “Mind your tone, Maxine. You’re already on thin ice with Caden; best not let him hear you defaming our Queen…”
Oliviette’s blood ran cold; they clearly weren’t referring to the beautiful and benevolent Gloustanian Queen - she had died twenty-five years earlier, and had never been officially replaced. This group, whomever they were, had installed their own nefarious one to follow.
“Our Queen…” Maxine scoffed as the pair lazily turned the corner, sending Oliviette’s damaged shoulder colliding with the wall. Tears stung her eyes, and pain radiated across her nerves in a searing crawl. She bit her lower lip to keep from crying out, drawing blood and stifled gasps instead.
“We don’t even know if Anathema is real! No one’s ever seen her! She could just be a story - a chǐsh!”
Without warning, Oliviette was dropped to the ground just before the sounds of a scuffle rustled overhead. She imagined the male guard grabbing Maxine and pushing her violently against the wall and Maxine struggling to free herself; apparently the group that stole her was plagued by profound infighting.
“Our Queen, Anathema, has bestowed her blessing upon Caden - and by extension, all of us,” the male guard hissed. “I suggest you temper your hostility towards Caden, before you find yourself at the mercy of the Apotheosis.”
“Remove your grimy hands from me, Nulan, or I promise I’ll remove them for you!” Maxine growled, her words dripping with a violence she was desperate to inflict.
A tense silence descended upon the corridor, and Olivette lay unmoving and blind on the floor, waiting to hear if a fight would break out between the pair. The news of the group’s splintered aspirations was like music to her ears - if only Oliviette wasn’t weakened even more than ever now, she might have been able to do something useful with it.
But as it was, she didn’t even know if she had the energy to crawl away if the guards did begin to fight, let alone try to find her way out of the dungeon a second time.
“Unlock the cell,” Nulan finally ordered, releasing Maxine with another push into the wall. “And if you cannot temper it, then channel that hostility into searching her for any more weapons…instead of into this petty - ”
“Oh, do not say fitmǐ!” the woman hissed as the jangling of keys echoed against the stone. Oliviette simultaneously breathed a sigh of relief and tensed in fear - reluctant to return to the cell again, but grateful she wasn’t being taken someplace even worse.
“ - insecure, childish and useless jealousy…simply because you cannot compare to our Queen…” Nulan continued, almost gleefully.
“This is not fitmǐ! I am not - ” Maxine groaned as she unlocked the cell and then crouched down to search Oliviette, rolling her back and forth without a single morsel of tenderness or respect to her injuries, pulling on each layer and rifling through her pockets.
“Did you search her body after she was knocked unconscious?”
Oliviette struggled to remain quiet during every push and pull of her weakened form. She wondered if Loki was still in their cell - hiding in the dark, watching this scene unfold, letting it happen to her. How imprudent she was to think she could ever trust him.
“You know I couldn’t - ” she answered through gritted teeth, rolling Oliviette on to her back and tearing the belt from her waist.
Loki could probably see it better from his vantage point in the shadows, and if he wasn’t willing to stop it, then ideally he’d at least describe it to her later.
“And why is that?”
Oliviette didn’t know much about Loki, but she did know that he more than likely wouldn’t even be that considerate.
“Because she - ” Maxine yanked the leather boots from Oliviette’s feet, her cold fingers indelicately clawing at her socks and ankles.
Oliviette stifled a whimper, and moments later, two thuds echoed off in the distance, presumably from Maxine tossing her boots away - and most likely not into the cell. “ - because she knocked me out first!”
“Oh, that’s right,” Nulan chuckled cruelly while a hand grabbed the back of Oliviette’s collar again. “Because you let your guard down while you were…what were you doing anyway? Lurking outside Caden’s chambers again, perhaps?”
Maxine growled as she began to drag Oliviette behind her again, even less considerately than before, and all but tossed her into the middle of the cell. Oliviette landed on her side, choking back coughs and groans as she tried not to squirm on the floor. The familiar stench of musk and rusted metal invaded her senses, leading to new tears rolling down her cheeks.
“This is her last chance, Nulan. If she breaks out of here again…” Maxine hissed as she stormed out of the cell.
The barred door slammed shut behind her with a violent crash. “Then I’ll kill her before Anathema even sets foot in this dungeon…”
Nulan didn’t skip a beat, honing in on her perceived weakness like a wolf stalking its prey. “And what exactly are you going to do from on your knees in Caden’s chambers, hmm?”
“I can do two things at once, unlike the rest of you…” Maxine snapped as she rammed the bolt back into its lock, the sound ringing out like an omen of doom.
Oliviette’s eyelids slowly fluttered open, and she struggled to focus on the blurred forms of the guards as they turned to leave. The walls started to close in, and sheer panic lurched in her chest. She was trapped again.
“And you should probably make at least one of those things - ”
“Oh, would you just shut up?!”
“Wait - please…” Oliviette hadn’t meant to say it; it was just an uncontrollable machination of her own desperation. She almost didn’t even recognize the sound of her voice, so small and so frightened, and so unsure of what was to become of her.
The atmosphere of the dungeon instantly changed, shifting from ebullient chaos to refined malevolence. Oliviette’s heart stopped in her chest as the pair simultaneously stopped bickering and went absolutely silent - the kind of quiet that always gave way to something catastrophic.
There wasn’t much she could make out, and her mind splashed in her skull as she tried to push herself upright. But Maxine and Nulan appeared to be standing at attention, one wearing a mask of turquoise and the other wearing one of ruby, both of them turning their gaze upon Oliviette and eyeing her viscously from the other side of the steel bars.
“Please…just let me go. I promise I won’t make trouble…” Oliviette begged through shaky exhales. She knew it wouldn’t matter, but what other option did she have?
The guards merely tilted their heads in unison, as if to make a silent mockery of her plea. They moved in sync, matching in every single way except for the masks that concealed their faces, their feet facing forward arms hanging loosely by their sides. Oliviette had no idea which was which, and she began to question the severity of their earlier bickering; apparently petty squabbles no longer mattered when there was a prisoner to terrify.
A chill slithered down Oliviette’s spine, turning down and coating each and every possible nerve ending in damnation. And without speaking, the guards stepped backwards down the hall together, maintaining their sinister eye contact until they turned the corner and finally disappeared from view.
Oliviette let out a shuddering whimper after they were gone, and her head hung so low. It was exhausting, trying to exist like this, and Oliviette didn’t know if she should even continue trying. Every inch of her burned and ached, and her body felt so heavy with despair as she tried to crawl away from the center of the cell. She didn’t even have the energy to hold back the tears that fell as her back finally found the wall again.
The wall of this specific dungeon cell - the one Tereth kept bringing her back to.
Oliviette brought her knees closer, once again cradling her damaged arm between her thighs and her chest, curling into herself in an attempt to keep warm. Most of her protective clothing was now either missing or severely damaged - she couldn’t tell if her boots had landed in the cell or not after being tossed carelessly by Maxine.
Her wool socks, dampened by the dungeon floor, just made the cold air that much worse, but she didn’t have the strength to take them off. Her cloak had been left behind where they’d found her upstairs, and no doubt one of the other guards had already stolen it for themselves.
She never found her staff, and now she didn’t even have her dagger. All she’d accomplished in the past few hours was to make everything worse for herself. If this were a story she was reading, she’d truly be impressed by the severity of these failures.
“So you are alive.”
Loki’s voice was low and flat, but it startled her all the same. The anxiety that flooded her system soon gave way to anger; he’d been there that entire time after all - and he’d done nothing to help her.
"No thanks to you," Oliviette snapped without lifting her head. She knew there was nothing to see, that he preferred to deliver his sarcasm from the shadows.
He didn’t respond, and she found that even more infuriating. But the walls of stone and steel were doing an excellent job of numbing her emotions, standing tall and strong and unyielding against the will of someone far too weak to do anything about it.
None of this was fair or justified. She’d wanted to be on her own for the first time, yes, but not like this.
“Did you even notice the door?” Oliviette felt like a child asking that question, so small and so scared, but she desperately didn’t want to descend back into silence.
“What about it?”
Oliviette sighed and lifted her head, searching for Loki in the dark. “I left it unlocked for you. So you could leave, if you wanted to…but you didn’t even look at the door, did you?”
Loki didn’t answer her, because of course he didn’t; dread and hopelessness were the only things Oliviette had to keep her company anymore. It probably never even occurred to him that escape could be an option - and if the guards ever ordered him to get out, even then he still probably wouldn’t leave.
Olivette turned away from him and pulled the charm on her necklace between her fingers, tracing over the sapphire crystal wrapped in gold wire and becoming lost in her thoughts and regrets. Only Tereth knew why she kept getting pulled back into this dungeon cell, and perhaps she wouldn’t be allowed to escape until she figured out the reason.
But was she being punished for simply leaving the castle? Was she being punished for her father’s lack of faith? What exactly was she expected to learn from all of this?
Oliviette’s people had never considered the God of Knowing to be a malicious god. None of their gods were - a people of peace have no need for a deity who thrived on vengeance and anger. No, Tereth was born alongside the Aethalium, at the beginning of time and in a fantastical wave of ocean-blue light and illuminating power. Those two were among the first things to ever exist, and they would be the last ones to ever die.
Tereth provided guidance, not malfeasance. Tereth knew what you needed before you did, and the Aethalium had the wisdom to either bring it to you, or you to it. Together, they knew everything, while Oliviette knew nothing, and that was the point of the faith - the trusting in the not-knowing was what would give you everything.
But Oliviette was terrified that she was going to die here without ever knowing why she had been kidnapped, or why Tereth wouldn’t let her escape. She was going to die locked up in this dungeon, and no one back home was ever going to know what happened to her.
Not a single soul was going to know, other than Loki - but he seemed content to stay like this. How could that be? Had he forgotten what it was like to not be here?
“Hey…” Oliviette’s voice cracked painfully as she spoke. And she knew she wasn’t going to get any information out of him, but she had nothing better to do than try.
A lingering silence hung heavy in the cell before Loki finally gave a curt response. "What?"
"How long have you been here anyway?" Oliviette asked, looking in the direction of his voice from the dark. She couldn’t see him at all, and wondered if he was even bothering to look back at her.
"I'm not sure. Why?"
Oliviette sighed again, somehow surprised that he gave yet another non-answer. "Just wondering how much time I have to think about all my mistakes before the end…”
Loki said nothing again, his silence hurting more than the blows delivered by the guards earlier. Oliviette’s fingers drifted absentmindedly through her red hair, and she winced as they made contact with the concoction of ripped skin and sticky blood.
Oliviette pulled her fingers away to examine them, tilting her hand and trying to catch the crimson in the dim light of the dungeon. She wondered if she’d be able to even see it if she had a mirror, or if all of the blood was now permanently synonymous with the color of her hair.
“How far did you manage to get?”
His voice startled her again, and she hated it. But that was twice now he’d started a conversation first; Oliviette didn’t know why he was so interested all of a sudden, and she didn’t want to ruin it or push him away again, as silly as that was.
“Not far. I was looking for my staff…” she answered quietly, shivering as she thought about losing her cloak. “I figured I’d need it to fight, but they caught me before I could find it…”
What a stupid, foolish girl she was. And so much for all that "training" Deacon had given her while she was growing up; apparently it was all useless in a real fight. Another tear rolled down her cheek as she recalled having to beg for that training as a child, and how hard her father resisted. How angry he was upon discovering that Deacon was giving them to her in secret…
“I should have just ran instead…” Oliviette continued, whether Loki was still listening or not; talking was much more preferable to the silence. “And the dungeon is like a maze, it just keeps going and going…”
To her surprise, Loki actually responded to that. “I wouldn’t know. I’ve never actually left this cell.”
Oliviette’s brow furrowed in confusion, and she looked in his direction again. “Then how did you get in here?”
She could hear shifting in the shadows, as if he was uncomfortable with the question even though he’d been the one to bring it up. A part of her inexplicably hoped that the shifting was actually him leaving the shadows to move closer to her, and not just because she felt ridiculous talking to a ghost.
But when he didn’t answer, or even emerge from the shadows, Oliviette’s anger began to boil over. “So you won’t say how you got in here, how long you’ve been here, why you’re hiding here. Is there anything you will tell me?” she scoffed.
“I’ll tell you that it’s none of your business.”
“Oh, I think it is, actually. Because if we worked together, we both could get out of here,” Oliviette snapped through angry tears. “But you’d rather be here - and therefore I’m stuck too.”
“I didn’t bring you down here,” Loki answered simply, as if that absolved him of anything.
Oliviette couldn’t believe what she was hearing, that she ever held hope in this man assisting in an escape. “Maybe not, but you’ve trapped me here all the same with your wallowing, and your - ”
“You’re a stranger, and I don’t owe you anything!” Loki interrupted, his own anger becoming more obvious even in the shadows.
“And what could you have possibly done to justify all this? What was it - did you murder a bunch of children? Burn down a village?” Oliviette’s veins swelled with blood as she became angrier, and her head started to throb even more. “Did you get greedy and rob a temple, and that’s why I have to die in a dungeon?”
Loki sighed - a deep, heavy sigh that originated in his bones and seized the air around her. Oliviette almost stopped, but he wasn’t giving her any valid justification as to why it had to be like this, and she was desperate to feel anything other than her own impending doom.
“No, it couldn’t have been so bad, or we would have heard of you before. So what was it? What did you do?”
“I don’t have to explain myself to you!”
“But you would if you were considerate!”
Oliviette stared unflinching in his direction, feeling a little bit insane for arguing with a shadow. A new fear lodged itself in her throat, that maybe she was just imagining him. Maybe he was just a hallucination - a reaper, meant to escort her to the afterworld. Maybe he was working with the guards, and that this was just the first step of torturous devices awaiting her.
Loki was quiet again, but it was different this time, like a thousand versions of the truth were spilling out of him all at once and he didn’t know which version to choose. But how could any one man be that complicated? And why did it have to be like this?
Oliviette swallowed hard and shook her head when he didn’t answer. Again, her mind sloshed in her skull, and it was pure agony even trying to exist anymore. All she wanted was to sleep, or to wake up and realize this was just a horrible nightmare. But she knew that was never going to happen.
She curled into herself again, huddled against the wall and too cold to care about anything else. Her eyes closed, and she didn’t even have the energy to hope that there was a greater purpose to this - because Loki wasn’t going to answer her, she was never going to get out of here, and this was going to be the method of her demise.
“This is me being considerate…” Loki’s voice wasn’t cruel or mocking, it was simply a matter of fact. Oliviette’s brow furrowed, and she cautiously opened her eyes to peer into the darkness.
“Me hiding away down here, rotting in despair - is me being considerate,” he continued, his self-loathing oozing out of every word - but she could tell that he believed everything he was saying.“You’re just…the latest of my many collateral damages.”
“Is that why you just sat there while the guards dragged me back here?” Oliviette asked quietly, unable to stop herself. She felt dizzy and nauseous and completely sick to her stomach. “Was that you being considerate, or was it because I’m just collateral damage to you?”
“Neither. I was listening to them. They were talking while you were unconscious…”
Oliviette’s eyes widened, amazed that he had actually put in the effort to pay attention. “Wait - you were listening to them?”
“The only other time I’ve heard them say anything was when you were dragged in here for the first time,” Loki answered, almost reluctantly, and her heart started pumping just a little bit faster. “But if I had revealed myself, they would have stopped talking, the way they did earlier when they realized you’d awoken…”
Her breath shuddered, and her limbs tingled with nervous energy. “Just the…mere fact that the guards are even talking now is significant to you?”
“That, and…” Loki cleared his throat before continuing. “The fact that they’re feeding you. So I’ll ask again…”
His tone shifted, from full on reluctance to conservative curiosity, like he couldn’t believe he was asking the question again but he also couldn’t ignore it any longer. Oliviette could feel his eyes boring into her for the first time, and she already knew what he was going to ask next.
“Who are you? And who is this Anathema?”
-----
You saw Loki from across the party, seemingly disinterested - fiddling a glass of Asgardian mead with his long slender fingers as you walked towards him.
"you know, you can have better use of those fingers" you cooed in his ears, slightly making him flinch as he draws his gaze towards your low cut dress.
"oh darling, do you really wish to know so bad?" He responded
"hmmm.. depends, I might need something.. way bigger.." you answered staring at the growing bulge from his crotch.
"Well, if you must insist, I -" he stopped as you cut him off
"but you can't possibly fill all the void that aches, darling" pouting at him.
"we can work around that, love" he smirked in response to your challenge, menacing thoughts brewing inside his mind, evident on his well-chiseled face.
Little did you know, it was a challenge you would have a difficult time conquering in the face of a powerful god.
He brought you back to his hotel room. Hard, passionate kisses peppered you as he locked the door behind him. His cock strains against the fabric as he brushes it on your thighs. He aggressively ripped the dress along with the flimsy thong you wore in you as he threw you on top of the soft bed of the hotel. You lie there in all your nakedness. As your pussy pools with a wetness, you clenched your thighs.
You stared at him in eagerness as you wait for him to take you then and there in a slow and passionate sex but Loki has other plans. He conjured a silk fabric and wrapped it around your eyes and he flips you on all fours.
"what.. a-are you d-doing?" you protested.
"isn't it you who challenged me to fill your carnal desires, pet? To have your aching holes filled by my glorious cock? Prepare for some thorough fucking, darling" he declared.
Before you could answer, he stuffed your mouth with his cock, the scent of his musk filling your nostrils as you tried not to choke on his huge member. He grabs you by the hair as he slowly pushes himself further down to your throat. You obediently suck his cocks as his pushes himself in and out of you, moans of pleasure coming from his mouth as he unloads himself with hot, thick fluid down your throat before pulling out. You lick the dripping cum for the corners of your mouth before he shoves himself back to you again.
This time you felt another hand from behind you, toying with your slick folds, gently rubbing your clit as you spread your legs wider in response. He conjured a clone to pleasure you. You felt his hands slowly teasing the inside of your pussy for a bit before his clone slithers underneath you. The tip of his clone's cock slowly eased into you until he bottoms out. Your moans reverberate as his thrusts steadily to fill you - your mouth and cunt filled by the god's gigantic cock.
It was not enough for Loki though, another clone was conjured, teasing your tight asshole with his fingers and slapping your ass cheeks red before shoving its cock inside, stretching you to your limit. Your mind went blank from all the sensations you're feeling. All three Lokis simultaneously have their way with you, filling your filthy holes as they thrust themselves inside you.
You rolled your eyes back as a huge wave of orgasm crashed into you, screaming Loki's name. You felt your wetness drip towards the Loki underneath you. They responded by cumming inside all of your holes in succession, but not pulling out for one bit.
Still not enough for Loki, he positions you to free both of your hands from holding onto the bed. You don't know how many more he conjured as you grasp two throbbing cocks on each hand to pleasure with, pulsing up and down. Alternating with the cock on your mouth to suck on, and swallowing each of their loads as they unceremoniously cum one after another. Loads of cum managed to land on your face, on your back, and inside all of your holes overflowing and dripping all over - it's intoxicating scent furthering your sex-drunkeness. You have resigned to your fate as this god's personal cum bucket.
You felt 2 mouths latching onto your breasts, lots of hands roaming around your body, occasionally teasing all your sweet spots and sending you wave after wave of shuddering orgasm. Your legs almost gave out but Loki supported your body to take all of him all at once. Not an inch of your body was left untouched nor smeared by the god's continuous ejaculation.
You have failed to count how many times you or Loki came from all of this nor how long time ultimately passed - your mind was too broken to think straight but you're sure you positively won't be able to use your legs after.
In a final wave of release, Loki's whole body shuddered as his clones vanished in a wave of seidr. Covered in sweat, tears, and cum, you slumped down in defeat. Unable to move your muscle from exhaustion, Loki removes the fabric from your eyes. You were a filthy mess, a mess the Loki made for you, to you.
"sweet pet, this is what happens when you dare challenge a god" he mockingly whispers in your ears before he magically dresses himself and exits the room.
When you were younger, you always knew you wanted to be a mother. The idea of bringing another life into this world and able to call them ‘yours’ creating a warm feeling. Yearning to love and protect a child of your own while you watched them grow. Not to mention the countless compliments you received, telling you how much of an amazing mother you would make someday.
Someday. That word echoed in your mind as you walked past the countless of mothers in New York. A pang of sadness and jealousy always striking you as you envied them. The happiness in their faces while they walked with their child whether it was one or two maybe even three or four. An ache in your chest grew as you wondered what it would be like to nurture a child. One that you could give the life that you never got to learn.
Everybody knew how badly you wanted to be a mother. Spending countless hours beaming about babies and all things surrounding pregnancy, Nat and Wanda always being the ones first hand to experience this side of you.
Constantly having to drag you away from the baby sections in stores, or listen to you gush about how cute an infant was that you passed. ‘Look how chubby and tiny their hands are! I would give anything to squeeze them.’ They could never get enough of your constant daydreams as you talked about motherhood. Only praying that one day that dream of yours would come true.
It was a slow day at the Avengers compound, all of you doing your own thing as you sprawled out on the couch. Your feet laying on Wanda’s lap while Natasha was on the opposite end, dully scrolling through the channels. All of you sat in silence until a photo of your cousin with her newborn popped up on your phone. The familiar ache in your chest appeared as you showed Wanda and Nat.
“Look how tiny she is,” you exclaimed. Adoring how precious the bundle of joy looked in her tiny hat and little fists balled up. Nat and Wanda joining you in gushing about how adorable the petite newborn was.
“I hate that I’ll never get the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a mom,” you sighed. Shutting off your phone while furrowing your eyebrows.
“You could always get a sperm donor, you know? I know you said you hated the idea and wanted the baby to grow up with both parental figures. But maybe look more into it, your baby would have an amazing group of uncles and aunts to love and protect them,” Nat assured, giving you a knowing smile that even if you did decide to raise a baby alone. You and the baby would have plenty of support from Avengers, and the few family members who stuck around once you left.
“Not to mention, you would also make the best mother and pregnancy would look stunning on you,” Wanda added. Both of them agreeing on the fact that a growing baby bump would suit you well.
“I don’t know guys, maybe I’m better off-“
“Not to intrude but if you so desperately want a child, I could offer you a solution to that cause.” A familiar velvet voice spoke up.
All of your attention turning the Asgardian trickster who sat reading a book, delicately turning the next page.
Nat and Wanda eyeing the both of you, silently pleading that you wouldn’t give in to his flirtatious ways.
“Y/N….Don’t. He’s just trying to get into your pants,” Nat snarled. Seeing you contemplate his offer.
“Oh, Romanoff, but what if I already have been inside her pants,” Loki taunted. His eyes flicking up from the page he was reading to send the redhead a sinister grin.
“You can’t be serious…” Nat appalled, “Y/N!”
Shrugging at their questioning looks, you picked at the skin of your fingers. Nat huffed as she sat back, crossing her arms like a tantrumed child. Wanda shaking her head while giving you a disapproving look.
Loki presumed, “As I was saying. I am more than willing to assist you in bearing a child of your own. Seeing as you have come to your wits ends,” flipping another page.
Bewildered by his sudden offer, you felt your body tremble at the idea of being able to grow a child inside. Not only a child but your child. Loki’s child.
He wasn’t bad looking at all, hell, he was a literal God sculpted by the man above himself. A complex yet intriguing personality as you both have had your ways with each other. Not really friends, nor just casual acquaintances who worked together.
“Take some time to cogitate your options. You know where to find me,” Loki reassured, closing his book as he stood up to leave. Allowing you to sit in your thoughts.
“I still think you could find someone better to father your children, someone who doesn’t have a past,” Wanda spoke, Nat agreeing with her on looking more into this.
Whatever this was. But your heart was set, you wanted a child and if Loki could offer you that, then so be it.
“It’s a child, it will be my child. Loki may have a rough past but I’ve gotten to know him. He’s proven himself to be a good figure to father a potential child,” you stated.
“Well, whatever you decide, we’ll be here for you and your blessing. All of us.” Nat patted your shoulder, Wanda giving you a reassuring squeeze as they left. Your mind racing as you thought of the endless possibilities.
Fumbling with the material of your shirt, you found yourself at the foot of his door. Heart racing as you contemplated actually knocking or turning around to leave. What if he wasn’t being serious? What if he only said that to get into my head?
Not having any time to react as his door flew open. His blue-green eyes staring right into your own, your body screaming at you to run. Your cheeks heating up while you quickly turned around flushed in embarrassment.
“Wait,” his cold fingers grasping your wrist, “Please. I need to talk to you.”
You sighed, turning around to face him. Slowly, walking past him into the familiar chambers. The smell of cypress and faint cologne hitting your senses. A color of green and gold decked his room, the sofa you both shared your first intimate moments catching your eye.
Silence engulfing the room as your eyes roamed the space you had spent so many nights. Looking to observe everywhere else but him while he scrutinized you.
Loki finally speaking up, “I know I scared you with my sudden…how do you say it…forwardness, I apologize but I am serious about giving you a child.”
Your heart pounded as you looked at him. Sincerity written all over his face while you went over his words in your head. Even though you and Loki have had sex countless, and I mean countless of times. You had never talked about having children. Let alone a relationship as you both agreed that you preferred to stay fuck buddies. Far from being friends but close enough to let you find and obtain pleasure from each other.
“Why on Earth would you want to have a child? I thought you were only in it for the sex,” You faltered, unsure if he actually wanted the responsibility of caring for a child.
His strides towards you slowly coming closer, “Darling, I’m more than quite aware that we were both in it for the sex. But seeing as you want a child of your own so badly, why not try?” Now standing right in front of you.
“We are both more than capable to raise a child given our desire to give one a better upbringing than we both had,” referring to the night you both had trauma dumped on each other about your messy, complicated childhoods.
“You really want this?” You asked, eager and hopeful that he would reassure you once more before jumping into a lifetime of parental responsibilities with you.
“Yes, I do. But, darling,” he grabbed ahold of your shoulders gently, eyes searching, “do you want this?“
Mind already made up even before you stepped foot at his door, you nodded. “Yes, yes I want this.”
Closing the gap between you two, he engulfed you in a passionate kiss. You slightly gasped, caught off guard by his sudden movements as you melted into the kiss. The familiar softness of his lips hungrily meeting yours.
His rough yet cold hands roaming your body, your own running through his tousled dark locks. Tugging and gripping while moans left his lips, still on yours. Pulling you towards his bed as the back of your legs hit the soft mattress, sending you both on top.
The kiss you exchanged heated, both of you desperate to touch each other properly. Breaking apart from the kiss, Loki looked down at you with lust-filled eyes. A softness clouding over them as his fingers grazed the collar of your shirt. This side of him completely new to you from his usual dominating, rough demeanor.
“May I?” He asked, delicately tugging at the fabric as his eyes searched yours for any uncertainty.
Grabbing his wrist, “Loki, I trust you,” you reassured him. Knowing this time would be different than the others. As Loki wanted to have his time with you.
To focus all his attention on not only making you feel good but making love to you.
Something so foreign to the both of you, Loki slowly taking his time to kiss every inch of your body. Using his magic to rid of both your clothes, leaving you only in your underwear. His lips making their way from your collar bone to the inside of your thigh, sucking on the skin to leave bruises. Marking you officially as his.
“Loki…I-Ohhh” you moaned, his fingers sliding your underwear down as he attached his lips to your folds. Head nuzzled between your thighs as he kneeled, your core pulsing.
Watching him suck the bundle of nerves, the arousal in your heat pooling. The sight of him flicking his tongue while he swirled that silver tongue of his on your area driving you feral. Your hands gripping his hair while you pushed his head further, feeling your stomach tighten.
His moans vibrating against your cunt, sending you even further into your climax. Still violently flicking and licking your fingers with every swish of his delicious tongue. You panted heavily, the pace of his swirling and sucking quickly increasing until you came hard.
Humming in approval, Loki looked up at you. His eyes clouded with arousal and lust while he licked his lips. Collecting the remaining of cum before swiping his tongue on the inside of your thighs.
“Devine like always, my love,” he praised. A smirk being sent your way while you eyed him, the bulge more than evident as his cock restrained against his boxers.
“Do you trust me?” You asked, eyes meeting up at his blue-green ones. Still needing the reassurance that he was comfortable with you pleasing him.
His eyes softening again, still not used to someone asking for his consent. A small smile on his face, he grabbed your hand before giving it a squeeze.
“I trust you.”
Giving him a quick kiss, you tugged his boxers down. Your eyes now leveled with his hardened length as his tip glared at you red and angry. Slowly pumping his cock, you ran your hands up and down his shaft. Feeling him tense under your touch, you began to work your mouth on his tip.
Swirling your tongue around his tip, collecting a few drops of pre-cum. Loving the taste of his seed on your tongue. Arousal soaking your folds again while you thought about him filling you.
“You taste heavenly, my King,” you hummed. His cheeks flushing a tint of red at your praises.
Grasping his length by the shaft, you forced it down your throat. The tip hitting the back of your throat while you choked back a gag. Your saliva coating his cock as you began to hollow your cheeks in and out. Creating a sucking motion as you slid his cock up and down, Loki’s moans filling your ears sending you in a spiral. His fingers knotting through your hair to shove your head further.
“J-Just like that.”
“You feel so good.”
“Norns! Oh. Fuuuuck. Keep going.”
His moans filled the silent room, continuing to fist your hair while he face fucked you. Tears running down your cheeks with every thrust of his cock hitting the back of your throat. Grabbing the back of his muscled thighs to get a better grip for stability.
“Fuck this-“
In a shift motion, Loki flipped you on your stomach with your ass on full display. Hearing the rustling of the sheets as he climbed on the mattress behind you. Grabbing the tip of his cock to teasingly run up and down your folds.
A moan leaving your lips while you withered beneath his touch, growing desperate to feel him inside of you again.
“Use your words, darling. What do you want me to do you?” He nipped the skin at your ears, sucking lightly.
“I….want you,” your breathe hitched as the tip of his cock filled your entrance, shutting your eyes tightly.
“What was that? I need your words.” He halted. Your core aching, begging for more to fill it’s velvet walls.
Little shit. You rolled your eyes, growing impatient by the second to just take his dick in your own hands. His hands grasping your arse before smacking one cheek.
“Where’s that little silver tongue of yours? I said use your words,” he demanded. His hand sliding to graze your throat, lightly squeezing it.
“Ohh. Fuck. Loki, I want- I need you to fuck me. Fill me with all of your seed until it’s dripping out of me. Till my stomach is swollen with your child. Fuck me-“
A strangled moan left your lips as Loki thrusted into you, hard and fast. Leaving you no room to breathe while you struggled to catch your breathe. The wind knocked out of you as he continued to thrust into you from behind.
“Yes. Loki, fuck me. Just…just like that.” You panted.
Feeling completely feral as the bed rocked. Loki’s movements harsh and rough, railing into you from behind. His hand around your throat while he pounded into you underneath. The tip of his cock hitting your g-spot sending moan after moan to leave your body.
His grunts in your ear while he held you flushed against his chest, leaning your head to fall back onto his shoulder. Sweat dripping down both of your bodies as the room grew thick with heat and arousal.
“I’ll fill you with my seed….Have you begging for more. Having you wish that I could fuck you this good every single night while your swollen with our child,” Loki breathed, his own pants in your ear as you moaned at his taunts.
Roughly pulling out his cock before flipping you over. Your back hitting the mattress while you lifted your legs up, wrapping them around his waist. Loki thrusting back into you like he never pulled out, both of you keeping eye contact while tears threatened to spill from your eyes.
“Harder…Loki, harder.” You pleaded desperately, needing him to pick up his pace.
The coil growing in your stomach as you peaked in your high. Thrust after thrust, Loki added more force, quickening before finding another steady rhythm. An ache growing between your legs, a definite sign that you won’t be able to walk tomorrow.
Your nails dragging along his back only to pull him in for another kiss. Not having enough to taste of him, you moaned into his mouth. His thrusts never faltering as his cock twitched inside of you. Clenching your walls around his thick shaft, pushing him to release as hot spurts of his come filled you. Your own release mixing with his while he slowly thrusted inside of you. His lips still entangled with yours, nipping at your bottom lip while your tongues swirled. Tasting every bit of each other.
Breaking away from the kiss, Loki brushed his fingers along your eye. A few tears had fallen from the intensity and roughness of his handling. Both of you silently knowing that you could handle it and that you trusted each other.
He slowly pulled out of you, massaging the inside of your thighs before placing a delicate kiss on them. Leaving to get a wet towel as he gently cleaned your folds. A hiss leaving at your soreness and the harsh sensitivity of your nerves.
“Sorry, I know you hate this part,” Loki apologized.
You always loved how attentive and loving he was after sex. He always took care of you even if you wanted to rush out, he still made sure that you were okay after being so vulnerable.
“It’s not your fault, I appreciate you taking care of me after this” You smiled, still feeling on cloud nine from the work of his cock and tongue on you.
“I’ll be taking care of you nonstop for nine months then a little mini version of us for a lifetime,” he joked.
Your heart fluttered, still in awe of the fact that someone would want to have a child with you. Let alone Loki.
Shaking your head, “I still can’t believe you want a child with me. Why?” Still in denial of the possibility of actually getting to bear a creature of your own. And of his.
Loki’s eyes furrowed, “Why not? You’re one of the most selfless and courageous people I have ever known. Since the day I met you, I knew how much love you had to give. Love that you even gave to me, a complete monster.” His eyes leaving your face at his heartbreaking confession.
Grabbing his hand, you forced him to look at you. “Loki, you’re not a monster. There’s more to you than your past. You are worthy of love, all of it.” You asserted.
“Do you think I’ll make a great..father?” Loki stammered.
His hand nervously playing with yours while he let it silently dawn upon him that he was actually to be one.
“The best. Loki…you are not Odin, you will never be him. You will make an amazing father, a caring one who will give his child the best upbringing that is full of love.”
Loki’s eyes welled up, getting choked up by your words.
He always dreamt of being a father. A better one than Odin ever was to him. For he promised to love his child, to support them, to nurture them to safety, and to never make them feel of an outcast. As he prayed that his child would be given the childhood, the family that he so desperately desired to have.
