Hi! Omg I just found your page yesterday and I'm OBSESSED!!! and I was hoping I could request a Thomas shelby/reader where the reader is a Harry Potter witch who has left the magical world for the muggle world, and ended up in Birmingham. Since she has no real muggle education or connections she's struggling and ends up bartending at the Garrison instead of Grace in season 1.
I just love the idea of a (literally) magical girl charming all the peaky boys and being an equal to Tommy, if you want maybe include The Big Reveal about her magic?
Love your writing!
Dear Anon,
This was such a fun request! The timeline is a total mess as the Marauders are my fav crew. Hopefully, it doesn't bother you. Thank you for waiting.
Enjoy XOXO
Warnings: romance - no explicit content, however Peaky Blinders does contain themes only acceptable for adults. Please consume content responsibly.

The pain was consuming as you looked at Remus on the train platform. Years of running into his and your friend's arms every September, and now you are saying goodbye.
Harry was ripped away from the two of you to live where your love couldn't reach him.
The funeral ended, and Sirius was hauled off. It was glaringly clear that you couldn't find a place in the wizarding world after the war had ended. You’d suffered great losses and all that was left was you and Remus.
He’d secured a position helping Dumbledore and you had faith he would be alright. You had job options pouring in from the ministry, even teaching positions from Hogwarts. Every time you think of either, your stomach twists.
Last time you were at either of those places you were there with them. Going back made you feel like it would somehow become real. Any time you interacted with this world the more the pain would become real. It was agonizing. Hogwarts was your home.
This leads to you drinking heavily to manage the remaining hours on shift at the Three Broomsticks. Every time the bell would ring on the door you felt like you would see James or Sirius. Marlene or Lily. Someone.
You stumbled home flopping onto your bed, the thought of calling Remus crossed your hazy mind. Knowing he would worry enough to come over prevented you. He had enough going on this close to the full moon. Stumbling to grab a glass of water you sat next to the toilet knowing what was going to happen. It was just a matter of time.
Many memories flooded your mind of Sirius holding your hair back, and James laughing at you for being a lightweight. Nights piled onto the kitchen floor, falling asleep anywhere only to wake up on some soft surface with a friend close by.
Now your apartment is empty. Everything stayed in boxes so it couldn't creep up on you. You grabbed the newspaper off the top of the shelf. It was a muggle one and you were grateful for the stationary photos and straight lines of print. Somewhere along the way, you saw an ad for a muggle bartender. It wasn't too far away, and most importantly you’d never been to Birmingham. No reason for it to hurt.
You smiled content with your logic.
You thought about it and decided it was meant to be, who put that newspaper in your bathroom? You had no idea but it seemed like an excellent plan
One call later you had an interview secured. You picked a nice deep plum-colored dress from a muggle shop in the city.
Job and new apartment confirmed, now you were saying goodbye.
___________
You rested your damp cheek on the scratchy tweed jacket he was wearing.
“After my next project is done I’ll pop by for a visit, yeah?” He mumbled in a heavy voice. Whether you stayed or not there was no way for the two of you to be together. He’d be traveling ten months out of the year.
“Yeah.” You confirmed hating how your voice wobbled. Pulling out of his comforting embrace you felt the cold autumn wind wrap around your body, taking his warmth far away.
“Take care of yourself, Moony.” you brushed the tears away.
“Same goes for you.” He kissed the top of your forehead before the bell rang. You stepped onto the train and sunk into your seat. Watched him wave until the fog obscured his slender frame. You pulled out an indented stone from your pocket. You, Lily, and the boys all had matching ones. When you rubbed it they all started to glow. As far as you knew they were buried with them. You silently prayed that wherever they were they could feel your love. You couldn’t even think of Sirius.
The train ride didn't take long. Honestly, you probably could have apparated, but for some reason, all the best things in your life had started with train rides, why stop the tradition now?
You doubted this would be one of those good times in your life, but James would want you to be strong, Lily would have wanted you to take care of yourself. They wouldn't want to see you deteriorating, drowning in memories.
_____________________
Your first shift wasn’t too hard. You were from a muggle family and tended to do most of these types of things by hand anyway. Pouring drinks, smiling at people that didn't know you, engulfed in the warmth of the pub, glowing lights keeping the dark fog outside at bay. You weren't happy, but you felt at peace with things.
These people had just had their own war, you could feel them trying to move on just like you were. One of the older men at the pub caught that look in your eye, giving you a hearty pat on the shoulder.
“You’ll find your way, love.” He started with glossy eyes. You only nodded, giving him a sad smile, but it was enough. The warmth was interrupted by a group of men arriving. The mood shifted and people quieted down.
They wore nice clothes, and distinct hats, clearly some type of gang. Memories of purebloods and death eaters caused the muscles in your shoulder to tense up as they approached.
“Bottle in the snug '' A man called out before moving into the enclosed booth. You assumed he meant whiskey and opened the little passage from behind the bar. Happy you didn't have to go directly into the room.
You watched as all sorts of strange company moved in and out of the snug. Wondering who those men were, and why they seemed to command the mood of the small pub.
Eventually, it was closing time. One shift accomplished, no drinks and no tears.
The place appeared empty except for the man still sitting in the enclosed booth.
“Sir, we are closing. I’ll have to ask you to leave” You said in a sweet voice, trying to figure out what you found so peculiar about the man. His bright blue eyes looked up from the stack of papers he said sprawled out on the table.
“It’s alright I’ll lock up.” He said staring at you, your face flushed in confusion. “Thomas Shelby” He stuck his hand out standing up. You introduced yourself by shaking his hand.
“I own the place.” He clarified.
“I apologize I only met Harry the other day -”
“It’s alright. Stay for a drink?” There was a twinkle in his eyes that pulled you in. Looking at the bottle of whiskey your stomach twisted painfully.
“I - I don’t really drink right now”
“With child?” He sat down motioning for you to take a seat regardless.
“No, it just doesn't look good on me at the moment.” You tried to give a polite smile, but it fell short. He hummed looking you over.
“From Scotland?”
You nodded in response, wanting to avoid thinking about home.
“Why this pub?”
“It was hiring.” You answered easily.
“This part of Birmingham isn't the best, love.” He gave you a look of warning. “Best to keep to yourself, and come directly to me if you're in trouble.”
His words were icy, but you’d experienced just about every type of horror the world had to offer.
“Trust me sir, you don't have to worry about me.”
“Is that so?” He wanted more information from you, his head cocked to the side. You only nodded.
“Well, I’ll walk you home nonetheless.” You paused not sure if you wanted to give away where you lived. “You're just up the street, yeah?”
“That would be nice thank you.” You had your wand on you, so there wasn't a real threat to the situation.
“In the city on your own then?” He asked as you stepped out into the crisp air.
“Yes, a fresh start was called for.”
“Care to elaborate?”
“Because you want to know or because it's a requirement you vet me?”
“Sounds like this isn't your first time?” He said sharply, a visible distrust washing over his features.
“Maybe all cities have a Thomas Shelby.” You sighed in defeat. “I lost my father in the war, my mother passed away soon after, I was involved in things I won’t talk about. Lost my closest friends. I won’t stay there, but if the position is no longer open I can move on to the next city.” You said sharply, you didn't have time for games, and judging by how tired he looked in the street light neither did he.
He stopped, turning to face you.
“I’m sorry.” He had the most consuming flicker of empathy in his eyes.
“I’m sure you got your fair share. I'm sorry as well.” You murmured slightly breathless. His eyes were pricing, and suddenly you were desperate to know more about this strange man.
“Now what exactly do you do?” You needed to know before your thoughts got carried away.
“The same thing the rest of the Thomas Shelbys do.” He placed a hand on your low back as you resumed your walk home. “Peaky Blinders, that’s my organization. The pub is ours as well as that Betting shop over there.”
“What are you up against?” you asked wanting to know what blood dirtied his hands regularly.
“People that wish they were Thomas Shelbys”
“So you keep things gang-related then?”
“As opposed to?”
“Innocent folks, daughters going missing - that sort of thing” You shrugged.
“No.” He responded seriously. You nodded considering things.
“This is me” You nodded to the building.
“You need anything you can come to me.” He said darkly, suddenly you wondered what he meant by anything, a flush covered your cheeks.
“I’ll be sure to seek you out.” You said as calmly as possible.
“I look forward to walking you home again tomorrow.” He gave you a nod and he started walking down the steps. Opening and closing the door to the stairwell you could see through the window that he’d stayed to make sure you were in the door before leaving.
You climbed the stairs to your flat, wondering if you’d just got mixed up in another bout of nonsense.
_____________________________________
He was there at the end of every shift to walk you home. Which soon escalated to showing up at the beginning of your shift with your favorite pastries and tea.
People treated you a little nicer, not from a place of warmth but moreover a place of fearful respect.
Tommy belonged to a big family, you’d met Arthur, John, and Polly so far, but you had heard of his sister Ada and little brother Finn.
These days were long and you were often very tired. Too tired to remember or think about things making this the perfect escape. Tommy was around you frequently flirting in his own way. Other men would be warned with a single look, and you figured that meant he was interested. Perhaps he was waiting on you to make a move?
Slowly you began to trust him, enough to let him court you properly when he asked. You and he shared the same type of inner void. It was nicer to be with someone that understood it, and wasn't always trying to change it.
You looked at him sitting in the firelight. His mind lost in the flames, there was a blanket of snow covering the ground and Christmas was inching closer. He quickly caught you staring, responding by pressing a kiss to your lips. Suddenly the yard fell away as his warm hands clasped your cheeks.
He deepened the kiss leaving you amazed at how it warmed your body from the cold wind. Charlie and Curly suddenly found something very fascinating in the barn that needed attending to.
The moon was bright in the sky, lighting up the whole city by reflecting on the snow. You felt the familiar feeling of need seep out of your bones. His grip on you was so inviting, your body relaxed further against him.
He pulled away, pressing a kiss to your forehead. This was where you both always left things and guilt started to bubble up in your stomach. You wanted to take things further, but you always got in your own way.
You tried to date at school, but after your last attempt spread rumors about you throughout the school - you’d stopped. You thought back to the boys terrorizing anyone involved. It was never worth the risk, then you were swept up in a war with no time for anything.
Tommy on the other hand struck you as the type of guy who had regularly indulged in acts of passion. You’d wanted to get it off your chest for a long time now. The fear of him getting tired or bored constantly weighing on you.
Remus was coming and you thought it better to wait for his opinion and see what he thought of Thomas. You rested your head against his shoulder taking a deep breath.
________________________________
You had talked to Polly about this day. All week you’d been dreading it, a dark cloud of reality hanging over your head. You were grateful she had told you to stay in, to look after yourself for the day. She’d even sent you home with some dinner and muffins, her kindness lifting your spirits slightly.
It was Lily’s birthday.
She’d slept next to you for seven years. She was a friend from the start despite you both drifting off slightly to rival friend groups. But when Severus had hurt her you’d been the one to break his nose the old fashion way. James pulled you off of him, it was his concern for your well-being and safety that made her see him in a different way. You pulled the covers over your face and prayed that these memories would leave you to rest for a while longer.
A knock sounded at the door close to noon. You assumed Tommy had come to check on you. The thought of his presence was enough to pull you out of your bed.
Grabbing your house coat you opened the door. Remus’s towering figure stood over you and you let out a shout of excitement before pulling him into a tight embrace. He smelt like cinnamon and cardamom.
You eventually let him go and took in the worn-out features of his face. Suddenly the urge to fix him took over as you got him to sit down in the kitchen.
“Tea and breakfast.” You stated as you put the kettle on by hand before realizing you didn't have to do things the muggle way. Suddenly things were flying around the kitchen as you got the eggs on the stove.
“Go on, tell me everything.” You encouraged him, he looked so tired it broke your heart. You made a mental note to pick him up some clothes and stitch his coat before he left.
“Not much I can say really.” He lit a cigarette and leaned into the seat. “Want to hear about all this though.” he waved his hand gesturing to your small flat.
“Well, I like the pub. It’s mostly easy work.” You nodded not sure how to bring up Tommy.
“Any friends?”
“Yeah, well, about that -” You could already tell that your face had given you away. He let out a loud laugh at your embarrassment.
“So my boss is kind of this crime lord - gangster type. I may have fallen in with his family…. Well - and perhaps fallen for him.” You poured him a mug of hot tea.
“A gangster? Thought you ran away for a simple life?”
“It's all guns and money - not really a threat to me. But bloody hell Remus I have no idea what I’m doing.”  You ran your hands through your hair in frustration.
“What’s he like then?” He put his cigarette out.
“He’s - very handsome. Kind to me, very attentive. He’s - well, he was in their war so he’s a bit like us now, you know. He’s very sad.” you spoke in a hectic manner fluttering about the kitchen trying to find things.
“But you're also very sad.” He stated simply.
“Right! So much in common.” You said sarcastically. There was another knock at the door.
“It’s open!’ you called out preoccupied with lighting a cigarette. Remus gestured to the kitchen with his hands, eyes wide.
“Fuck” you hissed suddenly stopping all magic. Needing to tend to the eggs you dropped a cigarette into the sink diving to catch the spatula.
“Tommy!” You said suddenly, shocked to see him. He took in the situation and gave off a colder-than-usual aura.
“This is my best friend Remus!” You watched as they introduced each other and shook hands.
“Lily’s -” You paused and swallowed hard. “Lily’s birthday would have been today.” You told him, before whipping around to start frantically making breakfast.
“Are you hungry, love?”
“No,  I’m alright.” He said watching you. Suddenly you realized you were still in your nightgown and housecoat. Remus didn't care, many summers spent skinny dipping, he’d seen more of you than most - but Tommy.
That’s got to be where all the tension was coming from. You couldn't leave the stove on to go change so you just gave him a cup of tea.
You and Remus started telling stories about school, ones that didn't immediately make you upset. You watched him relax as he realized he was learning more about you with Remus there.
They both talked for a while as you got dressed, you were happy to see that everything seemed to be cleared up. Tommy gave you a kiss at the door before leaving to handle some things.
Leaving you and Remus to gossip.
“You're picking a rough path,” Remus said, letting out a deep sigh.
“Don’t think I ever thought I would go any other way. You and I were always caught up in trouble. It just finds us everywhere we go.”
“Well, he’s definitely got stuff rattling around in his head. But he cares for you.”
“You think so?” You asked.
“Yeah.”
“What if I mess it up?”
“Remus? - I want to um… take things - all the way?” Your face pinched up in discomfort at your choice of words. “But I uh never - ya know” you shrugged and he laughed again.
“Just take it slow, do what feels right,” Remus said, trying to contain his obvious amusement.
“Then he better be kind to you or I’ll kill him.” He said the same way James would have.
“Mooney!”
He only shrugged.
__________________________________________
Tommy seemed slightly put off by Remus’s visit. Something that was very apparent to you.
“Tommy?” You entered his office at the betting shop later that evening. He hummed looking up from his papers. “Is everything alright?”
“Yes” He answered tightly.
“Is it about Remus?” You pushed and he gave you a flat expression that answered your question.
“Look, if you’d rather go home. I wouldn't hold it against you.” He said bluntly, his eyes colder than ever.
“I-”
“Don’t lie” His words bit into you.
“I don’t tell lies.” You said sharply getting up and slamming his office door. You knew there was a temper in him that scared you. Sure you could handle yourself physically as long as you had your wand. But he was too close to you now. He didn’t need to use force to hurt you, he could just open his mouth.
The fact that you could hear Lily’s laughter floating all around you the whole day did not help.
The night passed and you laid in bed wishing Remus had spent the night like you offered. Memories crept in and the thought of facing Tommy at work the next morning made you grab the bottle of whiskey from above the fridge.
You’d just opened the bottle when there was another knock at the door. You opened the door in your slip uncaring of who was on the other side. You would love to fight someone right about now.
Tommy was there initially looking at your face then you watched his expression shift as he took in your appearance. You moved away from the door going back to the whiskey in the kitchen.
He came towards you grabbing onto your chin.
“You better not even start!” You snapped at him. “I pay the rent on this place! If men want to show up unannounced at strange hours they can deal with this!” You gestured to your body. “If people don’t like it, then don't come over! How bout that” Part of you wanted him to react. Slap you down so you could leave. Hide away from whatever was starting between the two of you before it took its pound of flesh.
“What do you want from this eh?” His eyes held nothing but passion and caution was getting pushed to the back of your mind. “You don’t have me over in your apartment. I don't see you like this, but he does? What am I to think?”
“He’s my best friend, we - we know each other very well” He let out a cold laugh but you continued. “He’s the only family I have left. He’s it.” Your eyes narrowed as you got even angrier pushing his hand away. “You haven't seen me like this because - I - I've never - dated or been - I've never had sex.” You took a breath. “I don't know what I’m doing. I wanted his advice. Make sure he likes you, I don't have anyone else to run these things by - I don't have anyone left -'' Soon the items in the room were starting to float, your mind was always on the edge now trying to process everything that even something this small would push you over the edge.
You closed your eyes and tried to take a deep breath. Everything in the apartment settled eventually and you wondered if you kept your eyes closed long enough you wouldn't have to watch him run away. He pressed himself against you crushing you in his arms. His cheek pressed to the top of your head. He pulled you closer when you knew every bone in his body was telling him to run.
“I’m a witch.” You blurted out, knowing it would get you in trouble, however, according to Remus they were still cleaning up such a mess that it was not uncommon for these types of things to go unnoticed.
“What kind?” He whispered.
“Erm - not an evil one?” You pulled away to look up at him more confused than ever. Eventually, you both ended up at the dinner table. You poured him a hearty glass of whiskey and was impressed that more than anything he just seemed curious.
You told him about who you were honest and he took it in a glass of whiskey at a time.
“Things got pretty bad for you lot, for a while anyway?”
You nodded wondering how he would know about any of it.
“Polly’s cousins were like you. Past few years she had to stop writing because it wasn't safe. Mentioned stuff about a war and whatnot.”
“Her cousins? How much do you know?” You asked.
“Not as much as what you told me, but that side of the family has lots of this type of stuff.” He shrugged, lighting another cigarette.
“So you don't - mind?”
“No” he almost smiled. “If anything it means we don't have to tone down the usual family stuff.”
You’d often wondered about Polly, her way of seeing things that others didn’t.
“Well, whatever it is I doubt it will put me off.” You said honestly. “S’long as you don't take things too far with business.”
He scoffed “I’m sure you’ll find a way to keep me in line.”
You both stared at each other for a long moment.
“I like Remus, Just not when you're practically naked.” He said changing the subject. He stood up and moved to your side holding his hand out.
“I’m far from naked.” You accepted his hand and stood.
“I disagree.” His gaze was heavy and it made you feel desperate. His hand found your low back and you let him guide you towards your bedroom. The thought of sleep sounded very appealing after everything that had gone on that day but his presence was electric.
He lead you to the bed and pulled your quilt over you, before you could ask he slipped off his shoes and dressed down to his undershirt. You made space for him and he laid next to you. Your body was tight with anticipation, unsure of what was going on. Thinking back to what your friends had said over the years that was generally not a good thing. You rolled onto your side, ready to ask him what this was all about, but before you could ask he pulled you against his chest.
“I’m sorry about your friend.” He whispered.
“I told you a lot today, but I’ll tell you what happened - wh-” Your chest got tight.
“When your ready love.” He said easily.
“Thank you.”
He held you in his arms and you relaxed into a safety you had never known before.
“Did you want to um -” You took a breath and tried to explain what you really wanted to ask. “Stay the night?”
“You’ll never feel pressure from me, love.” He kissed the top of your head. “Just rest.”
____________________________________________________
Polly’s family was very magical and you knew some of her relatives. Now that the war was over you were able to reconnect them.
Tommy loved it when people were around forcing you to be normal. A maid in the kitchen meant you had to struggle to reach the top shelf, meaning he would have to get it for you. Your huff of irritation was enough to bring a smile to his lips.
He married you right away, hating the thought of things being uncertain. He knew that his place was next to you so there was no point wasting time.
One night Remus got a bit of evidence that Peter may have been at fault, this lead to the both of you taking over the study for weeks putting everything together. You both managed to clear his name.
Sirius being a mess but deciding to take it out on Tommy because he didn't think he was good enough for you.
You were thoroughly bothered by the fact that you couldn't see Harry. After enough pestering, you managed to take custody of him proving you raised him in a muggle community. Something that wasn't hard with your current setup. You were initially worried that Tommy would reject the idea of raising a child that wasn't his own. You felt sick the night you broke down and asked him, only to be surprised by his own difficult feelings of knowing a child was being mistreated. Out of respect for you and your friends, he had no problem accepting the boy into the family.
Lol just thinking about Harry going up against all this stuff with background Shelby commentary & events.

RCD: NYFW, FYI
Summary: Now introducing the first part of what I would like to call The Fashion Week Incident. You know something's gotta happen when you have what's supposed to be a "relatively lighthearted and enjoyable event", right?; For Your Information AKA Forget Your Intentions
Pairing: Jeweler!Wanda Maximoff x Metalworker!Reader
[Everything Else in The RCD Universe] This is part 1
Warning(s): it's pretty tame actually, but I'll do a quick disclaimer- I've never attended fashion week anywhere, so don't begrudge any inaccuracies about what goes on here alright? This is all fiction for funsies, we can let that go.
Note(s): Welcome to the miniseries inside an alternate universe! This storytelling is going to look a little different bud; I was going to write this in a traditional story narrative, but in my ever-evolving ways of writing shit, I've just let the brainrot take over and wrote things as they played out in my head...Not unlike the way I write my headcanons, except this is actually in the AU timeline. I hope y'all get ✨the vision✨ and enjoy :3
Word Count: Just shy of 500
ALSO: *squints* I give NO ONE permission to repost or translate my work. Make your own shit

Concerning New York Fashion Week, Wanda is attending for the majority of the week because she is looking at all the designers' new releases and fashion trends that they're introducing for the season. It would make sense that Wanda takes notes on that in regard to her own designs. Skitch is attending as Wanda's plus one, but they are also just genuinely interested in seeing more of what Wanda does as part of her job.
The first few days are a little overstimulating for Skitch, but enjoyable nonetheless. being introduced to some of the people Wanda works with and just entering into a different circle of people was both nerve wracking and exciting at the same time. Though both Wanda and Skitch were happy when they made their way back to their room at the Greenwich hotel to unwind and just decompress from the days full of networking and social and vehicular traffic.
It was on their second to last day attending the runway show for fashion week. One of the designers that was called up next was called Romanova. Skitch freezes before turning to Wanda and asking, "Who's presenting next?" And Wanda responds with "Romanova, it's Natasha Romanoff's brand."
Romanoff.
It's like your head was in a fishbowl as that info sunk in. You suddenly felt much younger; the nineteen-year-old you were the last time you saw the person with that name.
Wanda was little distracted since she was taking her notes, but she later realizes that Skitch isn't nearly as vocal for the rest of the show (since they usually make smaller comments like about the clothes as they're being modeled). They aren't even as responsive to Wanda's own small comments, and she notices that.
Wanda doesn't know what's wrong, but Skitch definitely looks a little stiffer and the smallest bit uncomfortable watching the rest of the show. Wanda keeps a hand on Stitch's thigh for the rest of the showcase in a form of comfort to hopefully ease whatever feelings came about.
The mingling after the show starts up again and Wanda is talking to designers and Skitch sees the person that made them react so perfectly: Natasha Romanoff.
Skitch separates themselves from Wanda so they won't have to be around while she and Natasha talk. Again, Wanda senses their discomfort, but Skitch goes off on their own before Wanda can articulate her concern, so Wanda just keeps a concerned eye on them as Skitch drifts off to talk to other people they met earlier in the week, away from her and Natasha.
Wanda continues her conversation with Natasha as usual; they're not the closest of friends, but they are familiar acquaintances in the industry. Let's be clear though: Wanda's not daft. It's when Skitch walks away from the approaching woman that Wanda puts two and two together that Natasha was the reason skitch became uncomfortable. Though she's more concerned as to why now...

Could you do Jennifer tilly comforting her little girl after the little has been extremely bratty and overstimulated all day
Tumblr media
Overstimulated
Mommy!jennifer Tilly x fem!little!reader
Warnings: age regression, hurt/comfort
Jennifer Tilly is your mommy and your wife. Since shes a big star, she travels to different places and goes to different interviews. Today was no different than any other day, Jennifer was in a interview for the third season of chucky while you were in a separate room, watching cartoons and having your snack. It was public that you are regressed and of course there was some hate but overall everyone was very nice and supportive.
Soon enough, your mommy came into the room and saw you on the couch asleep with your stuffie in your arms with my little pony in on the background playing. She smiled to herself and went over to you and picked your small frame up in her arms and carried you out to the limo. The roar of the engine of the limo woke you up and you whimpered which caused Jennifer to shush you gently to try and get you back to sleep which didn’t work.
All throughout the day you were cranky and irritated. It was interviews after interviews and you were getting very overwhelmed with the people and the bright lights that started to make your head ache. You started mouthing off at your mommy and throwing things when you got mad and you could tell she was getting irritated herself but didn’t want to make anything worse by punishing you right away, she wanted to know what’s wrong with her baby.
“Are you going to tell mommy what’s the matter now sweetie?” Your mommy Jennifer asked you. You shook your head no and she let out a sad sigh and scooped you into her arms and put you in the limo to head home to which you were excited about and your mommy could tell. She didn’t say anything else on the drive home, letting you have some space to think and hopefully tell her what’s the matter when y’all get home.
The limo parked in front of y’all’s mansion and she got out of the car first and picked you up out of the car and thanked the driver and bidded him a goodnight. Jennifer went inside with you still in her arms and she went upstairs to do y’all’s night routine which consisted of taking a bath, brushing y’all’s teeth, putting on pjs and heading to bed. Throughout all of that you didn’t give your mommy any more trouble as you were at home now and you were starting to calm down some and was ready to tell your mommy what was wrong today.
After y’all’s nightly routine she picked you up once more and laid you down into y’all’s shared bed as your mommy went to go grab you some of your favorite books so she can read to you but before she went anywhere you gently grabbed her arm and softly pulled her towards you. “Sowwy mommy…nu like all da people’s an noises an bright lights…hurts my head mommy…” you said softly, trying to explain to your mommy why you have been acting bratty and irritated all day. Your mommy gave you a reassuring smile and leant down to give you a gentle kiss on your forehead.
“It’s alright sweet cakes. Mommy understands. Next time when you start to feel like that, let mommy know so she can help you okay princess?” She said and you nodded as she smiled back at you. She went off and grabbed your favorite books and went back in the bed beside you. I started writing a self-insert OC Venture Bros fic but idk if I'll finish it, however what I've got is too good not to share (spoilers for season 6 & 7)
"This... Is our new target. Or, I guess more like this is Venture's newest Guild mandated arch."
Henchman 21 leaned over the dining room table, shuffling the stack of papers around so he could read them better.
"Doctor Bedlam?" 21 hissed through his teeth, a sympathetic twist in his furrowed brows. "He's like. Y'know."
"What? Like what?" The Monarch demanded. He had one fist propped up on his cocked hip, the other spread flat across the table. It was still a bit funny to see him in both his cowl and a silk robe. "You chickening out on me now, huh?"
"No, no, no, no," 21 shook his head emphatically. "I just think we should exercise some uh... Extra level of caution."
"Is there something I'm missing here?" The Monarch held up their target's picture. "Are you really that afraid of this fucking... Tony Stark/Slumdog Millionaire lookin' motherfucker?"
"The only reason why Doctor Bedlam isn't a 10 is he doesn't actively kill," 21 crossed his arms, one brow quirked. "Imagine a beast like Red Death but sub the bloodlust for, like, literal clinical psychopathy. You wanna act casual about that?"
"Really?" The Monarch looked at the picture again, pursing his lips in thought. "This guy? He looks like one of those cringey pick-up artists but he only goes after yacht club college girls."
Henchman 21 simply shrugged.
"I'm only speakin' the facts, boss. Don't underestimate this guy."
"Feh," The Monarch flapped his hand and let the sheet of paper flutter back down onto the table, already distracted by an exploration of the fridge. "Nothing the mighty Blue Morpho and his trusty Kano can't handle. We'll suit up after breakfast."
🦋🦋🦋
The Monarch-- or rather, Blue Morpho whistled in appreciation once he and 'Kano' were dropped off by taxi at their location.
"Damn, nice digs," The Monarch mumbled. "What floor is this guy on again?"
"Penthouse suite," Henchman 21 double-checked his notes before folding up the paper into a tiny square and tucking it in his pocket. "Top floor, baby. This guy's an arms dealer, he's like rich rich."
"Like Batman rich or like...?"
"I've heard rumors he's like Oprah rich."
"Daaamn."
Shockingly, the duo got into the building with no issue. Strange. The security seemed non-existent, the only visible employee being some older guy snoring at the front desk. They slipped into the elevator but when The Monarch reached for the penthouse button, 21 superceded him, obscuring it with a cupped palm.
"We'll take the floor below then climb the stairs to the roof," He encouraged, thumbing the 29th floor instead. "Who knows what kinda shit he's got waiting for us at the door."
"I still think you're overreacting," The Monarch rolled his eyes but didn't fight back, leaning against the wall as the elevator ascended. "Why the hell would the Guild assign such a supposed level 11 badass to a shmuck like Venture?"
"No clue," 21 frowned for a moment. "It's not like Dr. Venture goes out and does superhero work, he's kind of a shut-in."
"Yeah," The Monarch snickered. "He doesn't save cats in trees or kiss babies or whatever. Sometimes he's almost as much a villain as I am. Did you know he powered one of his inventions with a fucking dead orphan kid once?"
"Fucked up but also hardcore."
The elevator dinged and the doors slid open. Just across the hall was the emergency exit and, once again, the pair slipped out and up with no issues whatsoever. After a brief climb, they were on the roof and overlooking the rest of New York City from a bird's eye view.
"Alright, here's a vent we can enter through," 21 grunted with effort as one of his knives popped open the grate. "This should hopefully take us to the living room but we'll take it nice and slow."
"Move over," The Monarch barked, easily tucking both long legs into the vent, using a swift rush of momentum to zoom in like a slide. "And have more confidence in your leader!"
Crawling on hands and knees, they managed to move rather quietly, pausing over every subsequent grate to peek down and do some reconnaissance. There were exits into a master bathroom, the living room, the kitchen, and what looked like a study. It was too dark to tell but that seemed advantageous so 21 silently lifted the grate and the pair soundlessly hit the floor on two feet.

So…. did I vastly underestimate how hard the holiday season as a whole would weigh on my mental health? Hoo boy yes I did. Did I also bite off more than I could chew in a single chapter, and end up splitting it into two so I didn't go mad? Also yes. Did I take into consideration any of my personal health issues throughout all this, and prioritize them amidst an uptick of work in order to avoid crashing and burning? No, no I did not.
Needless to say, sorry for the bit of a delay in an update, but please enjoy what I have so far for you all! Hopefully I'll be able to get the next one edited and posted soon.
And as a personal note, please don't be like me. The holidays can be unduly hard sometimes. Please don't forget to eat, drink water, and get some rest. There is no shame in taking care of yourself. I hope for anyone else struggling right now, you find some tiny moments of joy to help carry you through <3

Act 1, Chapter 10: Storytime
Wednesday
4:30 pm
Chrysanthemum
It was almost too easy to stay on the sidelines while Sun and the kids ran about, weaving in and around as they screamed their little heads off. As caretakers, they’d naturally fallen into a good working dynamic together, their individual care styles complimenting the other; Sun, with his never-ending energy, kept everyone up and playing, a veritable fountain of excitement. Whereas Chrys, when the inevitable would occur and a lone child would tap out, out of breath, she would step in, meeting each one with grace and keep them occupied until their little batteries recharged enough that they felt ready and able to rejoin the group.
The party progressed well, managing to make it to a third round of “Princess and Gremlins”, a tie-breaker to determine the fate of the kingdom. In an unforeseen twist, the kids decided to forge an alliance in order to defeat their true obstacle, the mighty dragon, who ensured not a soul could reach the princess. Gremlins and Knights alike swarmed Sun’s feet, their war cry valiant and determined.
“Ack, what is this??? Betrayal! Betrayal most foul! Run my princess, run while you still can!”
Using his superior reach to his advantage, Sun took Marigold off his shoulders and placed her outside the swarm of kids, before collapsing to the ground, surrendering to their tickle attack.
“No! You are too much for me! I… I have been… defeated…”
With over-dramatized flair, Sun breathed his last, and the kids cheered, standing triumphant over their slain foe.
“Ha, alright you little monsters, you’ve won, you’ve won. Let him get up.”
There was little resistance as they followed Chrys’s instructions, the whole group a mess of sweat and smiles. He’d succeeded in tuckering them right out.
“It seems to me like everyone could use a break,” Sun asked, head raised. “Would anyone like to sit and listen to a story?”
Shouts of “Yes!” and “Yeah, yeah!” followed.
“Wonderful! Head on over to the reading corner then, Sunbites, while Miss Chrys gets you all a little something to drink.”
The children needed no more encouragement, and finding their second wind, pushed their little legs as fast as they could go to claim the best spots on the rug first. Chrys sauntered over, stopping at Sun’s head, arms crossed as she loomed over him for once.
“You doing alright down there?”
His smile faltered, and for a moment she worried something actually was wrong. His face held a seriousness she wasn’t used to, at least not from him. She tucked a strand of hair that fell out of place behind her ear in an effort to mask her growing concern.
“Uh, hello? Earth to Sunny? Those kids didn’t knock your motherboard out of place, did they?”
Still, he didn’t answer her, but sat up on his elbows, rotating his head on its axis so he still faced her head on, despite his torso remaining angled in the opposite direction. There was a look to his eyes she couldn’t place, something intense yet… sincere. The lack of levity she normally saw there sent a rush of goosebumps across her skin. She could do nothing to break the tension while he continued to stare, grateful then once he finally spoke.
“The lights make your hair look like you have a halo around you. It’s… stunning.”
His tone held nothing but awe, a dissonant thought for her to comprehend directed at herself. Heat snuck into her cheeks against her will, and she turned away, unable to stand to meet his gaze any longer. If such a comment would have come from anyone else, she’d have denied it without a second thought. But from Sunny… her instincts misfired. She cleared her throat to break the silence.
“Oh, s-stop kidding around, ya goofball, the kids are waiting.”
She booped his nose, the easiest way she could think of to get them back to the casual ease she was used to with him, and give her a chance to hide her cheeks. Thankfully, he took the hint.
“Right you are, sunshine! You mind grabbing the juices?”
“Not at all. You get going.”
True to form, he flipped his head around and curled himself into a rolling tumble, popping himself upright to dismount before jogging over to the group of waiting kids, bells jingling mirthfully. Chrys watched him leave, a smile worming its way onto her face even as she shook her head.
Don’t read into it too much Chrys, he probably doesn’t realize how things like that can be misconstrued. Get your head on straight…
She’d learned the day before that a small fridge sat just behind the security desk, which housed all their cold refreshments. While meals weren’t usually their responsibility, it was good to have some water and juices on hand for certain situations. Using the loose fabric of her shirt to make a pouch with, she filled up on little juice pouches and tiny bottles of water and made her way towards the back half of the room where everyone else waited.
Sun’s voice cut through the cacophony of childish voices, heard all the way from where she was. It sounded as if someone was having an argument over their spot selection. She wasn’t surprised, not with how easily amped these kids were. Sun was a saint to have handled this many kids on his own before.
She hurried back, managing to reach the group just as everyone seemed to settle down. While she handed out the drinks, Sun called out to Marigold, asking her to come up front.
“As our birthday girl and honorary princess for the day, why don’t you pick out the story? Go ahead and choose whatever you want from the bookshelf.”
She smiled wide, and ran to search the collection. It took her hardly a minute to find the one she wanted, and soon came bounding back, book in tow.
“Why thank you!” Sun took her selection from her. “Let’s see… Oh. “The Gardener’s Daughter”. I don’t recognize this one. Well, we can just discover it all together then!”
Trailing a finger down the edge lengthwise, he flipped the book open, and pulled out a small microchip embedded in its blank pages. He then inserted the chip into a hidden port at the back of his head, eyes glowing entirely white while the information transferred. The kids waited with bated breath, their anticipation mounting once his pupils returned to their normal sky-blue color. Chrys found the perfect place to sit, where she could still keep an eye on everyone, and made herself comfortable, sitting crisscross on the floor. With a squeal of glee, Marigold hurried to rejoin the group, but chose instead to plop herself down on Chrys’s lap rather than return to her original spot. Chrys gave a small “oof” as her body adjusted to the child’s additional weight, and the girl relaxed against her.
“Alright, is everybody ready?” Sun asked.
“Yes!” Shouted the crowd in unison.
“Fantastic!” Soft, subtle woodwind music began to play through the loudspeakers at his command, adding a touch of magic to the atmosphere. Chrys made one last quick visual sweep over the group, just to make sure all was well, before letting her attention fall completely under the spell of Sun’s dynamic storytelling.
“Once upon a time, there lived a young prince in a magnificent castle. His life was a blessed one, full of all the luxuries one could imagine. But for all his riches, there was one thing he lacked, something he desperately longed for. Companionship. His father was a stern, serious ruler, his smiles saved only for court. His mother, lost to childbirth. The boy was alone, with not even the servants willing to care for him more than their duties demanded.
For weeks upon weeks, months upon months, the boy pleaded for a friend to any who would listen. He’d willingly go to every magic lesson with the cranky old wizard, would never refuse to eat another vegetable again, whatever it took. For just as long a time, his wishes fell on deaf ears. Until one day, the fates decided to grant his request.
The boy awoke to find that they had lost their best gardener in an unfortunate accident, killed while protecting his father. As a means to reward the man for his valiant service after death, the king appointed the man’s widow as the new royal nanny, providing both security and sustenance for his family, including that of his only child. A girl, of about the same age as the young prince.
He had his playmate at last.
From then on, the two spent every spare second of the day together. Playing. Exploring. Growing. Learning. The years passed quickly for the pair, though their time together dwindled as they grew older, pulled apart by their individual studies. Though the responsibilities of life kept them apart, the prince thought of her often, his heart always yearning to be by her side.
With the dawn of the prince’s 20th year, the time finally came where he’d mastered his studies, earning him the right to be considered of age, and the entire kingdom ran atwitter with excitement. The king sent invitations far and wide for all to come and celebrate the prince with a glorious ball. The servants decorated, the chefs cooked, and after months of preparation, the night of the ball arrived.
Family and honored guests of all kinds arrived in droves, all dressed in their finest in the hopes of attracting the eye of the newly eligible young royal, though none would be able to. The prince had his sights set on one person, and one person only. He searched the ballroom high and low for her, failing to find even a glimpse. That is, until the band started to play a new song, capturing the attention of all.
There she stood, the Gardener’s Daughter, singing alongside the band with a voice that stilled the entire ballroom, no longer a child but that of a beautiful young woman, as bright and inviting as any flower bloom. The prince, mesmerized, knew then and there who his future queen would be.
But as quickly as the fates could give, the fates could also take away.
Black smoke filled the room, pouring in from every window and doorway. All the guests choked, and the prince faltered, unable to see his beloved in the onyx haze. An evil chuckle resounded, and like the wind, the smoke disappeared, revealing to all that though everything appeared the same, something was very, very wrong.
The Gardener’s daughter had disappeared.
In a fit of rage, the prince—”
The sharp creak of the entrance gates cracking open disrupted the illusion, shattering the story. All eyes drawn to the front, two human staff-members entered the daycare, their uniforms identifying them as part of the Atrium’s food team. Any chance the new guests might have had of a warm welcome crumbled as the children registered what had happened, their shouts of disapproval instant.
“It’s alright my little sunspots, it’s alright! We can finish the story another time, I promise!”
Sun did his best to console the children, but they were having none of it. Chrys attempted to nudge Marigold off her lap in order to help him get the situation under control, but even she fought with her.
“No! I wanna hear what happens next! What is the prince gonna do, what happened to the gardener’s daughter?”
“Yeah! We were just getting to the good part with all the spooky stuff!”
A little boy shouted in support of Marigold, prompting others to follow suit. Sun sighed, and popped the microchip out from the back of his head, making it clear that the time for storytelling was done. A chorus of dejected “awww’s” rang out.
“Now kids, don’t you know that stories are meant to be read in bits and pieces! That’s why we have bookmarks, after all.” He stood, gesturing for everyone to stand. “Right now it’s time for pizza and cake, and presents! Aren’t you all getting hungry?” A few kids nodded their heads. “So, let’s all go put our shoes back on, and keep the fun going! I promise the story will still be here when you get back.”
At his word, the majority of the kids obeyed, their frowns slowly dissipating as they scuttled towards the cubicles by the front doors. Marigold gave one last pout before climbing out of Chrys’s lap and followed behind the others. Having had the extra weight sitting on her for some time, Chrys struggled to stand, grunting like an old lady as uncomfortable tingles flowed through her legs.
Sun stopped and reached a hand out, to which Chrys took eagerly. He pulled her to her feet with hardly any effort at all, another reminder of how much hidden strength those gangly limbs held.
“Thanks,” Chrys said, wiping the wrinkles from her pants. “Interesting uh, story there, Mr. Narrator. Can’t say I heard that one growing up.”
“I believe it! You know, I’ve read each and every book we have here dozens of times over, and this one is completely new to me! No idea where she found it.”
Chrys laughed. “Watch it be some creepy magic book or something, poofed here out of nowhere to haunt the daycare.” She wiggled her fingers and made a parody of a spooky sound.
“Oh, don’t put that extra responsibility on me. I don’t know how to count inventory for a book that can vanish at will.”
They followed behind the children’s trail, the majority having already gotten their shoes on and standing in a line by the door, likely a habit from school. The few who remained hurried to catch up, struggling to tie their laces. Chrys and Sun split, assisting all who needed it until everyone was ready to go.
“Alright my little sunbites! Off you go! Eat all the things! And when you come back, there will be a special surprise waiting for you all! Now have fun!”
The staff waiting at the entrance, arms crossed and faces painfully bored, slunk off the door frames they leaned on and started the line moving out of the daycare. Sun waved them all off before turning to face her.
“Chrys, why don’t you go with them? Get yourself something to eat too. I can handle the changeover here.”
She furrowed her brows. “Wait, you sure? I’m alright, I ate already, remember?”
Sun sighed, and cocked a single, swirly brow at her, his face and voice uncharacteristically deadpan. “A protein bar, a cheese stick, and a cup of fruit do not a meal make. You need something more substantial, and we won’t get another break before the party is over. So no butts!”
He booped her nose, a reflection of her tactic from earlier, and ended the conversation with a smug smile. She made a humorous, mouthy sound, and playfully batted his hand away, prompting an even cheekier grin to plaster Sun’s face. He wasn’t giving her an inch. She rolled her eyes with a smile, but still acquiesced to his demands without fuss. Truth be told, she wouldn’t have thought to deny him anyway, but he needn’t know that.
“Alright, alright. As you wish, good sir.” She walked backwards, giving him a spirited bow with a forehead salute before returning to a normal posture, and picked up her pace to catch up with everyone else as the last few kids rounded the corner.

A little while after the fiasco that was Kaoru’s visit. Joey heard the doorbell ring again and opened the door. Standing outside was his old friend Lyall Shiba with a gift bag in his right hand, and judging from his appearance, it appears that he just got off work.
"Hey Joey. Happy birthday." Lyall waved at his friend. "I got you a gift to celebrate."
Stepping inside, Lyall paused as he saw a familiar person asleep on Joey's coach.
"Is that…Kaoru?" Lyall asked, eyebrow raised.
"Yeah, she came to drop off a gift and well…"
"Let me guess she spent the last Anubis know days without any sleep, and it finally caught up with her."
"Yep."
"That girl." Lyall muttered, shaking his head. "Alright, Joey, just leave her to me. I'll drop her off."
Handing over the gift he brought to Joey, Lyall walked over to the couch and lifted Kaoru up bridal style who, in the meanwhile, was dead to the world not even waking up a bit at being handled.
"Well, I was gonna stay over a little while, but it seems like I've got different plans now. Anyway, Joey, I hope you enjoy the gift I got you, and hopefully, the rest of your birthday goes without any incident." Lyall stated, walking towards the door.
"I'll see you soon, Joey." Lyall nodded his head goodbye as he walked out the doorway.
Joey just waved his friend off and closed the door, glad that Kaoru would get home safe. Now turning his attention to the present, Lyall had given him Joey opened it.
Tumblr media
Inside the gift was a figure of the anime character Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan. Along with the figure was a note.
"I know you're a big fan of the series, so I got you a little something from an anime store in Niigata." – Lyall
“Ew, Eren? Ew.” Mamoru stuck out his tongue, disapproval etched on his features as he came out of his room to see his boyfriend giddily holding the figurine in his hands.
Joey gasped scandalously and placed a hand on his chest as if he was actually wounded. “What do you mean ‘ew’?! Eren’s the fucking GOAT!! The second greatest character in the series after Hange!” The blonde turned his nose up in the air, pouting as Mamoru rolled his eyes playfully. “Yeah, he was great in the first two seasons but his character really went downhill in season 4, I’m sorry babe but no amount of rock hard abs and sexy hair can justify committing worldwide genocide.”
“Okay….okay….listen…listen to me…” Joey placed the figurine down and held on to Mamoru’s shoulders, looking him dead in the eye. “…His Titan forms, including the Founding one, is hot as fuck.”
“Oh goddamnit, not this again, Joey your monsterfucker tendencies are showing again.”
Thank you for the gift!

Yes I agree it seems like it was written with a season 3 in mind , hopefully it happens. The ending was alright but felt incomplete and a lot was not resolved/addressed. It focused too much on what literally happened in the diaries so some parts felt inconsistent (thinking about M randomly after your wife dumped you but not being clear about why/viewers who read the diaries would expect it but for the rest it felt out of place). The speech around children at the church was nice, finally Anne shows vulnerability. But when she said smth like ‘child I could never have’ i was confused. Since when did she want kids/express wanting them? It seems like pushing heteronormativity, women have to somehow like or want children etc. I also want Ann to have a big confrontation about Anne’s behaviour , Anne hasn’t really grown or changed this season and I want to see that. Marriage too unbalanced, not enough slow moments with them , like the honeymoon being so short, I thought it would take up an episode at least. I wanted to see both the hardships and nice parts but we got so much more hardships, and Anne being completely unappealing. I think the season was too busy and it was hard to keep track and get invested in everything, their marriage almost felt like a side plot.
I think this season was way more complex than the first one and so more tricky to handle.
First season was very straightforward, simple plot and clear goal – everyone knew it had to end with the Ann(e)s marrying. The first season is also a perfect stand-alone piece of tv. It really didn't need a second season.
This second season takes some things that were pretty much established in season one and turns them on their head completly, and by the end we're left with a lot of open plots – that to me feels like an attempt to plant some seeds for a third season.
Some examples:
in season one we see how Anne Lister starts the whole courting of Ann Walker because Ann is a pretty lady with money and by the end it's clear that AL ends up falling in love with Ann Walker – this season starts with everyone questioning whether Anne is in love with Ann, even Anne says she is not in love with her and again the whole thing goes back to the money argument. By the end the whole thing is still very complex and unresolved – is Anne in love? what even is love? Open questions.
in season one we have a whole episode dedicated to Mariana where we get to see her relationship and dynamic with Anne Lister. We see what's the history between them and why they don't work together. We see there is – there was – a love there but time has passed and too much happened. We see Anne Lister thinking about Ann Walker, constantly. By the end of the episode it looks like there's really no hope for Anne and Mariana, and Anne – hurt once again by M – seems to decide to move on. Season two starts with a very very very strong presence of M – it starts with Anne thinking about M constantly and even ignoring her wife because of it. It's as if Sally wanted to open the possible plot of a love triangle when in season one Mariana never really felt like a threat to the Ann(e)s relationship. And by the end the whole thing is still open. We see Anne thinking about M literally the first night Ann Walker is not in her bed. Is she thinking about her because she’s still in love with her? or there are other reasons? Open questions.
the Sowden sub-plot worked perfectly well in season one. It really served as a parallel with what was happening with the Ann(e)s. It showed us how “easy” it was for a straight couple to get married, and more importatly it showed us how even someone who committed a parricide had the right to get married. The Ann(e)s didn’t have that right. And what sin had they committed? That’s a strong, subtle, very cleverly weved parallel. This season the whole Sowden thing was handled very very poorly and didn’t make sense at all. He’s a serial killer now, I guess.
Anyway, these are some examples of what was really strong and solid in season one, what in season one had a proper start, middle and end in the way it was narrated vs. how Sally took some of those things again and remixed them to have drama material to play with both in this season and hopefully the next.
There was proper closure at the end of season one, this time there isn’t, but I believe this was the intent.
About this thing you wrote:
It focused too much on what literally happened in the diaries so some parts felt inconsistent (thinking about M randomly after your wife dumped you but not being clear about why/viewers who read the diaries would expect it but for the rest it felt out of place).
I absolutely agree with you and I think the "it happened in the diaries" shouldn’t be used as an explenation or justification for things that happen in the series.
The show is a show and when we analyse it and try to find the hidden meanings of it all, the answers have to lie in the show itself and not its source material. People that are watching shouldn’t have to read the diaries to actually grasp what is the meaning behind what they’re watching.
That scene you pointed out reads completely different to someone who has read the diaries vs. someone who hasn’t. Someone who’s read the diaries knows what a cross is and that Anne masturbated to the thought of M, but also knows that in those moments she thought of her only as a mistress. Someone who’s read the diaries also knows that she masturbated to the thought of Ann, before and after their marriage. Someone who hasn’t read the diaries is just hit with a scene of Anne fantasizing/dreaming about having hot sex with her ex after her wife left her. There’s quite a difference I’d say.
Anyway these are some of my considerations. I liked this season, can’t say I didn’t, there are beautiful scenes and I appreciated how hard it was to understand or sympathize with Anne. Not an easy watch but a necessery one.
The thing I loved most, and that is really the overarching theme of this season, is that we got to see how Anne Lister manifests her love to Ann Walker – she’s giving her the chance and freedom to truly be the person she wants to be. That, I think, is the most beautiful thing.

Played and beat Arrowfell
Let me get the two extremely petty part out of the way. I’m very surprised this entire thing isn’t voiced acted. Like even if a person may have been busy, voice matching would totally be fine with how few lines a majority of the characters have.
Second petty thing. All these cool and unique weapons/semblances that fit a narrative and yet no one thought of a decent idea for ironwood ever.
Anyways, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect going into this but the best way I can describe this game is this: If RWBY had 24 episodes a season, then Arrowfell would be the canon filler arc. And I don’t mean that in a bad way.
It’s no secret RWBY has no real fluff and sometimes goes a little too quickly for it’s own good. This entire game is their first big mission as licensed Huntresses and that means exploring the kingdom, meeting different cultures, casual dialogue with Ace Ops, and instances of someone teaching them ways to use their skills better. Ya know…all the things that build a world and character relationships. Like I’m not gonna say everything in here is perfectly done but having all of this before the apocalypse hit in V7 and V8 would’ve made them hit harder in my opinion.
I don’t know if I missed a piece of dialogue or something but JNPR isn’t in this game at all and don’t know if they had an excuse. There’s plenty of NPCs asking for help or trying to give you something so I don’t really know why 4 of them can’t be the team. Not mad about it, just confused.
The game itself is pretty engaging for the most part. Levels have areas you’ll eventually go back to with better upgrades and for the most part the map design is pretty easy to understand where you are especially when what kind of enemies are located in them. Game took me 5 1/2 hours and that’s me getting 97% of everything so it can definitely be faster but at the price of missing out on level up points you really want to make things not take forever.
I am going to be brutally honest and hopefully someone can answer this for me. There was never a time a I thought “I should use Yang” outside of puzzles. There are so many situations where it makes sense to use or combine abilities between the other three. Never Yang💀
The best characters literally go in name order. Everyone exists to support Ruby and it shows she’s the only one who can dodge, highest normal attack damage and has the best reach. I leveled everything on her before anyone else because of this. Weiss is really good for crowd control and Blake had great uses for stationary targets and bosses because her clones attack/distract with the rest of the team. They should’ve given Yang a counter but they didn’t. Just a heavy ground pound that isn’t even the strongest attack in the game. Weiss has the strongest single hit but it costs the most aura but ya know, things die.
Last part is the music. Maybe I miss RWBY music, but this soundtrack is pretty good in my opinion. This might be a testament to how much the show is influenced by video games because every track felt like the show, but completely at home in the level it was in at the same time. Even when certain game mechanics are at play to make this a competent game, my brain went “this could exist or happen in the show.” And the more outlandish parts of Arrowfell that exist for game design has the characters go “well this doesn’t feel normal” which I thought was funny.
I payed 30$ for this and honestly I had a very good time with it. I think the price is pretty reasonable considering how this looks and the few regular animation scenes. Some new characters have semblances and others have weapons that will make OC creators go “go damnit I did that.” (Myself included) but it’s alright. This game will completely break your legs if you’re not paying attention but feels pretty rewarding when you’re handling ambushes easily.
I say there’s only 3 parts about this game is one specific jump that thankfully only has to be made once. Rooster Teeth continues to do the same thing when it comes to their women antagonist any time they introduce a man. Also the fact everything happening here and everyone you meet do not matter at all because Atlas doesn’t exist anymore. Who the hell knows if any of those people are alive.

TMNT Theme Song Rankings
I got really bored so I'm gonna rank my fav TMNT theme songs (English versions only). This is strictly my own opinion. Also, I'm mostly basing these on how they sound as opposed to their music videos or how well they fit the show. I'm also including some unused ones.
Anyways, here we go! (Placing under a cut cuz this'll be a long post.)
In order from my favourite to least:
TMNT 2003 Cyber Shredder (unused intro)
THIS SONG GOES SO HARD, I JUST- AHHH!! I know this is a scrapped intro but it is so freaking good to me. It's one of the only intros I go out of my way to listen to. I hate how short it is, but I get that it is a tv opening so I'll have to cope.
RIse of the TMNT
I'll admit, I'm incredibly biased here because ROTTMNT was my introduction to TMNT, but I love how much energy this intro has. I thought this would end up ranking lower but when listening to all the themes again, I just...couldn't. TMNT 2003
I think there are technically multiple versions of this song, but they're not entirely different songs, so I'm gonna just count them as one. My personal preference is the version from the first half of season 4. This song is just so good imo. I LOVE BEIN' A TURTLE
TMNT 2003 Comin' Back (unused intro) I don't think this works very well for a TMNT intro, but man are the vocals absolute fire. I love it so much.
TMNT Fast Forward
I'm probably biased but the vibes of this song just remind me of tv shows from when I was a kid. Like somehow it reminds me of Pokémon and Sonic X?
TMNT Back to the Sewer
Such a freaking bop! I love how high energy this is. I don't know how I feel about the roll call bit, but the rest is fire.
Tales of the TMNT 2012 (Season 5)
I LIKE JAZZ-
TMNT 2012 (Season 1-4)
I struggled to decide whether I preferred this over the classic intro, but I think it just about wins. It took me ages to warm up to it, though. Again, this intro has multiple versions, but they're not much different from the original, so I'm just linking that one. Also, unlike the show, Mikey gets more positive attention in this intro (/lh).
TMNT 2003 Turtle Time (unused intro) I find this intro kinda funny and for that reason I love it (/lh). I genuinely debated ranking this above the 2012 intro.
TMNT 1987 (Season 1-7)
The classic intro! I don't have much to say about it to be honest. Just that the classic is a gem.
TMNT 2003 Bringing the Green (unused intro)
It's alright. I enjoy the energy it brings. Not much else to say.
Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation (DVD)
I can't help but bop to this song. That in itself makes me like it, just a little.
TMNT 2003 Ready to Strike
Overall, I'm not a huge fan. But the autotuned "teenage mutant ninka turtles" bit sounds cool to me, so I'll give it credit for that.
TMNT 1987 (Season 8-10)
I find this intro kinda boring? It's not as good as the original in my opinion. Not awful, just not really my vibe.
Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation (TV)
I don't know why, but I really don't like this intro. At all.
I think that's all of them? Hopefully I've not missed any, but anyways, that's my tier list! Hope y'all enjoy laughing at my probably bad music opinions! /lh

This little story came to me the other day while I was thinking about the lack of romance in recent seasons. You can expect angst, longing, and romance. This turned out decidedly M, so read at your own risk. Takes place in season 12.
***
Separated
Kensi heard the pads of Monty’s paws moving towards her before he appeared in the kitchen. She goes off her shoes and dropped her keys on the counter.
“Hey boy, how you doing?” she asked, bending to briskly rub his ears and kiss the top of his fluffy head. He barked softly, looking expectantly at the garage door, even after all this time, then glanced back at Kensi. “Sorry Buddy, Deeks isn’t here. He’ll be back soon.”
She’d been telling herself the exact same thing every night for the last 10 weeks since Deeks went undercover for LAPD. Even though he no longer held any allegiance to his former employer, Bates had requested that Deeks reprise one of his many criminal aliases to bring down a rising gang. Much to everyone’s surprise, Kilbride had approved the operation.
Nell and Eric assisted with reinforcing his backstopping and the whole team was briefed on the case at the start, but otherwise, they’d largely been in the dark. Although Deeks checked in every few weeks to let them know he was alright, it was rarely more than a few words. At one point, he’d just sent a cronut.
How he’d managed that feat while under the watch of a dozen gang member, she’d never know, but Kensi was touched. The little pastry sat uneaten and enclosed in a glass Tupperware container until the day of Deeks’ return.
It was those little mementos and messages that kept her from curling into and crying everyday. This was the longest amount of time he’d been under in years and on top of that, he was essentially cut off from the team. She should be by his side. Or at the very least, Sam or Callen, not some unknown detective who didn’t have the same vested interest in Deeks’ well-being.
Sighing, Kensi gave Monty a final pat, forcing herself to her feet. Monty followed her around for the next half hour while she filled up his food and water, threw a frozen meal in the oven, and cleaned up a few dishes she’d put off the night before.
In Deeks’ absence, she’d done her best to keep up with housework and cleaning. She was looking forward to his surprise, and likely teasing, when he found the place in almost as good condition as when he’d left.
When the dishes were done, she turned around, searching for something else to do. Unfortunately, the kitchen was nearly spotless
“Alright boy, how about we go for a walk?” Monty gave an excited whine, or at least as excited as he got at his age. Hopefully they would get up to a jog and she could expend some of her restless energy.
It felt good to be outside, out of the confines of their home where everything was just another reminder of Deeks’ absence. Kensi prolonged the walk for as long as she could, but eventually Monty whined again giving her an exhausted, pleading look, pulling back on his lead. She cast a look at the darkening sky and slowed down to a walk, sweat cooling on her shoulders and back.
Back at home, Monty eagerly lapped at his water before curling up in his bed where he started snoring moments later. Well, at least someone would sleep well tonight, Kensi thought with a wry smile.
Reluctantly, she headed for the bedroom, shucking off her sweaty clothes. She grabbed one of Deeks’ t-shirts from the dwindling supply in the closet, taking a deep breath of the blue fabric. It still had the faintest trace of Deeks’ scent and was a small comfort.
Tugging the shirt over her head, Kensi slipped into bed, rolling onto her side to grab the picture frame off the bedside table. The picture was from their engagement shoot; Deeks was in front, his smile dazzling as she rested her chin on his shoulder, arms wrapped around his waist.
“Goodnight, baby,” she whispered, lightly touching her fingers to his face. It had become a part of her nightly ritual, silly as it seemed. She flipped off the light, curling up on her side of the bed.
***
Kensi turned onto her back, shifting around until her head was settled in the center of her pillow, completely wide awake. Insomnia had plagued her pretty consistently in the last two months and so far, she’d yet to find anything that would turn her mind off enough to pass out. The room was still and disconcertingly silent around her. Sighing deeply, she ran her hand over the opposite side of the bed out of habit, finding it cool to the touch.
Kensi yearned for Deeks in a way she hadn’t felt since before they started dating. She missed him desperately; the sound of his voice, his touch, the soft grin he reserved for when no one else was watching. She missed just being together, eating rushed breakfasts before heading off to work, teasing each other on the drive.
It felt like a giant hole had been whittled from her heat, the pain so deep she physically ached. Every morning, she woke up, dreaming that he was beside her in bed. And every morning, she forced herself to hold back tears of disappointment.
“I miss you,” she whispered into the darkness. Maybe if she said it enough times, he would magically appear next to her, moved by some invisible force.
Ok, talking to herself probably wasn’t the best habit to start. She a.ready talked to Monty enough as it was. Curling up onto her side again, Kensi let her mind wander to the night before Deeks left.
She’d ordered dinner from a nice local restaurant, set the table with candles and the finest dishes they owned, and topped it off with a dress that Deeks liked. The effort was worth it to see Deeks eyes widen when he walked in and saw her, gaze dropping to the sheer bodice.
They never got around to dinner. That night, making love on the living floor with the flicker of candle light around them, was as much about creating a memory that would last Deeks through whatever horrible things he experienced undercover, as it was for her.
God, she could almost feel his hands running over her arms. A few tears trickled down Kensi’s cheeks at the memory of his mouth on hers.
A sudden creaking sound drew Kensi to the present and she was instantly on alert. Moving silently, she retrieved the glock from the bedside table, and crept thought the door and down the hall, following the sounds of continued shuffling coming from the living room.
A tall figure was outlined in the moonlight and after a second, Kensi lowered her gun, flipping on a light.
“Deeks?”
He spun around in the sudden brightness, right reaching to the waistband of his jeans before he caught himself.
“Kensi,” he breathed, charging across the room. He caught her up in his arms, tucking his face in her neck. “Oh god, I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too, but you shouldn’t have risked coming here,” Kensi told him, even as she wrapped her arms tightly around his back to hold him closer. Even through his shirt, she could tell he was thinner than when he’d left. She’d only seen him once in the last two months and the change was a little shocking.
She wasn’t sure she could let him go back out there. Not after having him in her arms again.
He lifted his head slowly, seeming reluctant to lose any contact with her. His beard was trimmed shorter than usual, his hair grown out to below his ears in loose curls. Kensi cupped his jaw and he sighed, closing his eyes briefly.
“It’s over,” he told her hoarsely. “The gang is essentially gone. Five dead, the rest in LAPD’s custody.” There wasn’t any pride or happiness in his report, only exhaustion and relief.
“So that means you’re…” Kensi let her words trail off.
“Home.” Deeks finished.
Kensi gasped in relief, finally giving into her emotions, and collapsed against his chest. Deeks caught her, cupping the back of her head as tears flowed down her cheeks.
“I was so worried about you,” she whispered, fingers clenching in his shirt, on his arms, desperate to check that he was alright. That he was really there in front of her.
“Hey, I’m ok.” Deeks eased her grip a little to look her in the eyes, trying to reassure her like always. “Not going to lie, it was rough sometimes, but I managed to get out unscathed.”
“Not completely,” Kensi disagreed, touching his cheek. She hadn’t missed the lingering bruising and other signs of a recent fight.
“Baby, I promise I’m ok,” he repeated softly. “I’m here.” He guided her mouth to his, his lips gentle, soothing against hers. Kensi clutched at his hair, returning his kisses with sudden desperation. She needed him.
Deeks didn’t protest when she started tugging at his shirt, mouth hot and just as desperate on hers. Finally she wrangled his shirt off and practically threw it across the room in her need to get them both naked as fast as possible while Deeks kissed and licked a path along the slope of her neck.
She paused to trail her fingers over his chest, relishing the soft feeling of his skin. His ribs and collar bones jutted out slightly and she worried over them for a few moments.
“What’s wrong?” Deeks asked, lifting his head briefly, hairs drifting into his eyes. Something about the familiar sight sent a renewed wave of longing and need through her.
“Nothing. I’m just glad your here.” Looping her arms around his neck, Kensi kissed him again, slipping her tongue past the seal of his lips as he lifted her into his arms and carried her to the bedroom.
***
Kensi woke to an empty bed several hours later, panic racing through her for a moment at the idea that she’d imagined Deeks’ return. A glance to her left, relief coursing through her when she saw the sheets crumpled and a pair of jeans tangled up at the head of the bed.
She padded out of the room, tugging on her borrowed shirt, which once again smelled like Deeks.
She found Deeks in the kitchen, dressed only in loose sweatpants, and peering inside the fridge. The pants hug low on his hips, just a little too loose, emphasizing once again just how thin he’d become. There were a lot of burritos, sushi, and $12 ice cream in his future Kensi decided.
Deeks straightened up with a loaf of bread in one hand, revealing a large dark bruise in the center of his back. It looked boot-shaped and deep. Probably extremely painful. Yet Deeks hadn’t said a word.
Kensi swallowed against the hard lump in her throat and crossed the room, filled with a desperate need for him again.
“Hey, I was just going to make some eggs and toast,” Deeks said, turning just as she reached him. “Do you want—”
She cut him off with a rough kiss, unceremoniously pushing him down into one of the kitchen chairs. The bread hit the floor with a dull thump which they both ignored. Deeks eyes went from sleepy to aroused in a matter of second and Kensi felt him harden beneath her as she straddled his legs.
“I want you,” she said, answering his unfinished question. Kensi tugged his pants out of the way and sank down on him with a shuddering gasp, echoed by Deeks.
“Kensi…” he sighed, settling his hands on her hips.
“I love you and I never want you to leave me like that again,” Kensi continued. Deeks nodded, head resting against her, hips rising in a steady rhythm in counterpoint to hers.
“I promise,” he managed, clutching her to him.
***
A/N: I hope you enjoyed this. We’re going to ignore the fact that Kensi probably would have been notified by someone on the team or Deeks himself prior to him making it home.

The season of giving thanks is officially upon us! This is just such a beautiful film capturing a moment both bittersweet and cumulative of all the history of The Band. The theater I saw this in cranked up the volume on the music sections and despite watching it every year for the past 3 or 4 years, I had forgotten just how energized this film makes me (Neil Diamond being the one and only low point). The audio for the interviews was significantly lower than the concert footage, but it still worked for me overall. I really noticed how the sections and performances were tied together thematically. I also think that there's a undercurrent of politics that goes untouched. My dad, upon leaving the movie theater remarked, "It sure was a different time." I will note that the previews consisted of a voice over from Robbie Robertson (that had been advertised as a special introduction from him) over clips from the film, and then they played a highlight reel of just his parts as tribute. It felt really weird and inflated when the movie was about to be shown. Don't play a highlight reel when we're about to experience the whole thing! I think it would have been better to just have an in memorium at the very end. (Alright, I had to get that out of the way). I really love how this is not a completely polished product, you see some of the sausage getting made and I love that for it. Also having just seen Mavis Staples in concert this last week (aka God's gift to the world) sing The Weight with local rock hero Grace Potter, seeing her in this felt extra special, and that section received the only full audience round of applause of the night. I guess I had also forgotten that Pops gets a verse on The Weight and delivers it so so nicely. I need to start a new paragraph just to talk about Rick Danko and how he oozes a sweetness that cannot be named. He's just such a jolly player and totally buoyant, just so talented. Rick Danko is the ideal man. My best friend Lynn, turned to me and said, look at the bassist, during the Dylan bit because Rick looks like a Muppet. It is sobering to see him mention something about drug use and the rest of the guys kind of joke and chuckle while he remains stone faced. Marc Maron mentioned thinking about him a lot and how sweet he was the other week to Joan Baez, and I completely relate to that. It Makes No Difference is just a stunning song, performed so magnificently and I just have to wonder, who hurt you, Rick? His vocal talents and joyful bass playing, along with the fiddling, are a wonderfully captured gift. I love Rick Danko and will think about him so much, always. Also Robbie Robertson rocked that fuchsia scarf so hard while absolutely shredding the guitar throughout this night. I loved seeing all his interviews, as he oddly kind of seems the most mature. I loved hearing about Garth teaching music lessons for a price. Richard Manuel had my favorite voice out of the guys, but I always thought I liked Levon's songs the best (I've kinda come around to Rick having my fav songs though). I plan on watching all the docs I can this month devoted to The Band. I'm so long overdue on Festival Express, but hopefully I'll be able to find: Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band, Ain’t in It for My Health: A Film About Levon Helm, Revisiting the Last Waltz, and Bob Dylan & The Band: Down In The Flood. I hope you join me! Now let's take it from the top!

distractions
this one’s a request! i hope i did it justice!
pairing: rick x reader (platonic)
request (edited): reader goes on a run with Rick, Daryl, Glenn, Maggie, Michonne and Carol. They find a run down store, but the reader gets distracted when she sees something Judith might like, drawing noise from nearby walkers, and starting an argument with a disappointed rick.
Tumblr media
The fall weather was rolling in, and it was starting to get colder out. The newly fallen leaves crunched under your boots as you walked to the gate. Your watch flashed the time: 9:00
You were supposed to meet Rick at 9:10, so you were going to be ahead of schedule. Despite your punctuality, everyone was already there, and you could already hear Glenn’s snide remarks.
You waved to Carol and Michonne, before giving Daryl some of the arrows he’d left in his room.
“You’re late, Y/N!” Glenn laughed at you.
“Let her be Glenn, not everyone gets places early like you do,” Maggie quieted him.
“She’s early anyways,” Rick said, handing you a map and a list, before continuing.
“I circled the location of the store in case any of us get separated on the way there or back. You each have your own lists of things to find too. It’s a big store, but we don’t know what’s left in there. Circle the things you can’t find and we’ll do a separate run for those. Any questions?” he asked.
The group hummed in response, and you separated into your own cars. You went with Rick and Michonne after Glenn and Maggie decided to go in the other one with Carol. Daryl followed on his bike.
The store was at least a half hour away, and you took the time to run through the list Rick had given you. His words were crooked and scribbled, like they were written down quickly, and you were lucky that he at least took the time to make it legible.
Most of it was canned goods, but there were some non-essentials written at the bottom in pen:
PASTA DRIED BASIL PARSLEY SEASONINGS COLORING SUPPLIES CHILDREN’S BOOKS DIAPERS (LOW SUPPLY)
The pasta was going to be a long shot, considering that you hadn’t seen any on the past couple of runs. Aaron was inquiring about a pasta maker, but you figured that was even more of a luxury.
You’d arrived at the store quicker than you thought, and made a mental note of the time before gathering at the front with the rest of the group. Daryl cleared the inside of the store, while Rick cleared the outside, and once it was deemed safe enough, you stepped inside.
It was musty as hell, with almost no natural light, and ventilation. The windows had been boarded up long ago, and some of the planks were rotting from their nailed down spots.
“Here,” Maggie handed you a bandana, “Tie it around your face so you don’t breathe in all the dust. It helps.”
“Thanks,” you said as you took the fabric from her.
“Alright everyone. We meet back at the front in 30. Essentials first, then the rest. Shout if you need help,” Rick said, setting his watch and making sure everyone had the same time.  The store was bigger than you originally thought it was, and it was much more like a department store. You made your way to the back of the store, where a sign read: BABY ITEMS.
Your list consisted mostly of formula and canned goods, but you pawned your canned items off to Carol in exchange for her baby items so you wouldn’t have to go to more than one isle.
Formula was running low, but thankfully there seemed to be enough for a couple of weeks. Thankfully, Judith was the only toddler that needed the formula, and hopefully by the start of winter, you wouldn’t need it anymore.
You scooped the remaining cans off the shelf and into a basket, also grabbing a booklet about toddlers for Carl to read. He’d been doing his research on Judith and had asked for more pamphlets.
Next was dried goods, mostly jerky or fruits, of which little existed, but enough to cross it off your list.
Your feet took you to the back of the store, where toys were displayed along a row of shelves slightly out of reach after being blocked by a knocked over display.
It wasn’t exactly on your list, but Judith needed more toys, and you were sure the other kids wouldn’t complain either.
There seemed to be some walkers trapped on the other side, blocked only by the shelf that was also blocking the toys. You put your foot on the lowest shelf, testing your weight to see if you could climb to get the toys and avoid the walkers at the same time.
It only creaked slightly, your sign that it was decent enough to hold your weight for a couple of seconds, and planted your other foot.
Your hand was close enough to reach some of the toys, your fingers straining to catch the edge of the package, until you felt your feet slip out from under you, and the crashing sound of the shelf as you hit the floor.
The impact knocked the wind out of you, and you coughed, trying to force some air back into your lungs. The groans of some walkers caught your attention, and you attempted to scramble to your feet before the nearest one came close enough to grabbing you.
Not quick enough though, because it was now on top of you. It was seconds away from snapping its teeth into your neck, until a the bang of a gun stopped it in its tracks.
You were stunned, to stay the least, laying there with the walker on top of you until it was ripped off of you, and hands were helping you up.
“Are you okay?” Glenn asked.
You nodded.
Rick was standing in front of you now, strong hands on your shoulders as if to steady you.
“What are you thinking?”
“I- What?”
“Are you wanting to get yourself killed? What gave you the idea to climb the shelves like Tarzan all for a toy?! Are you even listening to me, Y/N!” He yelled at you.
“I just wanted to get the toys from that shelf. They’re at the bottom of my list, and Judith needs new ones. I wasn’t thinking. I didn't know it would fall,” you spoke quietly.
“That’s the problem! You can’t not think out here! You’re gonna get yourself killed! You’re done now, just go wait in the car,” he pushed you to the front of the store as he spoke to you, like you were a kid who needed to be scolded.
Carol followed you out, taking a seat next to you in the car. You huffed, setting your bag down on the floor so you could get comfortable.
“I don’t need a baby sitter, you know. I mean, we get it. I caused a scene and let him down. You don’t need to rub it in,” your voice was wavering, and the tears were threatening to spill from your eyes.
“I’m not here to rub it in. I’m here to tell you that he’s not mad at you. Not even disappointed. He just cares for you. He doesn’t want you to get hurt. He doesn’t want anyone to get hurt. He cares for you more than the others. You’re family. More than the rest of us.”
Your head was in your hands, trying to rub away a headache that was coming on, and her words sat with you for the rest of the run.
You're family. More than the rest of us.

firsts with Nanami Kento
I would love to share my firsts with Nanami Kento, my soon to be husband who I hope is free this Saturday, that’s correct this coming Saturday a day that I am free and that he hopefully is also free this Saturday-
First meeting
Nanami Kento, ex jujutsu sorcerer turned ex salaryman turned jujutsu sorcerer once again
Even though he hated working, he still had to do it to survive
When he was a salaryman, Nanami allowed himself a few pleasures in life, one being going to a bakery
But now that he’s back to being a sorcerer, he doesn’t really have the time for that like he used to
Sometimes though, he finds the time to squeeze into a bakery, this time one that’s unknown and unfamiliar to him, but apparently Gojo knows all about it
“Hi Satoru!” A friendly voice calls out as the lanky man steps into the warm building. Kento follows suit, a tick in his forehead already appearing at the knowledge that someone is so familiar with Satoru that they’d call him by his first name. Whoever they were, they could only be as annoying as he is.
“Hi (Y/N)!” Satoru says just as happily, singing your name a little bit as he walks to the counter. The bakery is small with a few tables dotted around, flowers in vases sitting in the windowsills and warm wooden walls.
“I see you brought a friend today.” Only when he’s acknowledged does Nanami look up at who’s speaking. You’re standing there with a kind smile and give him a wave when you make eye contact. “Hi.”
“Hello.” Nanami manages to say smoothly, but the attention you’re giving him makes his chest tighten. You haven’t even done anything special yet he can feel himself getting a little warmer under his collar.
“I’m (Y/N), it’s nice to meet you! Are you a friend of Satoru?”
“No-”
“Yes!” Satoru quickly interrupts, wrapping an arm around Kentos shoulders. “We went to school together.” Giving his shoulder a squeeze, Satoru leans closer to Kento. “Introduce yourself.”
Pushing Satoru off, Kento clears his throat and subtly rolls his eyes. Finding himself unable to make full on eye contact with you, Kento settles for looking at your forehead.
“Nanami Kento. It’s nice to meet you.” He can see you working the name out in your head, and a small smile graces your cheeks.
“Nanami, do you like sweets like Satoru?”
“No.” He replies immediately, eyes drifting down to Satoru who is currently leaning over the display case staring at the confections. “Gojo eats enough for the both of us.”
“That’s true!” The man echoes, throwing a thumbs up in the air.
“Good to know.” You giggle, and it’s the sweetest sound Kento’s ever heard. “We make savory food as well, in the other case.” Sweeping your arm to the side, there is indeed another case full of non-sweet treats. “Take your time in picking one out!”
First hangout
He and Gojo didn’t stay long that first day, just a quick stop on their way back to the school
Nanami finds himself looking forward to going to that part of town again though, because he’d like to see you- oop, scratch that not you! The treats! The treats were very good! Totally not you, psshhh where’d you get that idea?
A month goes by before he sees you again, not because he hasn’t been going to the bakery - he has - it’s just you never seem to be there! He goes during normal business hours, but he can’t ever catch you
After a late solo mission, with the sun just beginning to set in the sky and most rush hour traffic having left, Nanami goes to the bakery one more time
And surprisingly, he finds you there
How long had you been sleeping on the counter? You were fully perched on your stool, back bent as your head rested snugly in your arms on the counter. It had probably been a long day of serving customers if you were this tired that you didn’t hear the heavy door open and close, or the chime going off alerting you of a new person.
Kento stood at the counter just watching you for a while. He knew that if someone else walked in, it might be a little creepy for them to see him like this, but if that happened he would deal with it. For now, he was content just looking at you.
Your features were soft and relaxed as you dozed, the apron you usually wore folded up next to you. The creases in your eyes were gone, your mouth relaxed, and the sound of your slow and even breathing filled the quiet room.
Once again Kento wondered, how long had you been asleep? The cases that were usually stocked full were nearly bare, only a few stray pieces of cake or a croissant waiting to be purchased. He almost left the bakery, wanting you to catch up on sleep since you seemed to need it. But instead, he gently shook your shoulder. As much as he wanted to let you rest, he also wanted to talk to you.
“Hm?” With a big yawn and a stretch, you slowly rise to look at Kento with eyes still heavy from sleep. Your eyelids droop closed more than once before you take another deep breath and rest your hands on the counter, back still bowed. “Na-Nanami?” Your eyebrows scrunch up from trying to remember where you were and who was in front of you right now.
“Hello.” His hand remains on your shoulder even though he has to bend forward slightly now. His face is neutral and his eyes are searching you.
“It’s nice to see you again.” Another yawn, and you rub your face drowsily. Kento lets out a little grunt, he thinks it’s cute the way you rub your eyes and sit up further, trying to wake yourself up again. “How long have I been sleeping?” Stretching your neck, you look at the clock behind you and out the window.
“Not too long.” Kento looks outside as well, and notices it’s begun to rain. Your chuckle brings him back to you, and his heart stutters a little at the mischievous look on your face. “What?”
“I heard from Satoru that you’ve been looking for me. Coming to the bakery a lot to come see me.” Kento makes a noise in the back of his throat and his cheeks begin to go pink. “Did you miss me, Nanami?”
“I-” It’s no use, his cheeks are still getting darker. “No comment.” You burst into full laughter and Kento hangs his head, regretting the past month so much he could turn and leave the cafe.
“Well no need to worry, I’m here now!” Throwing your arms open, you hop off the stool and lean against the case housing the savory goods. “Now, what can I get for you?”
“Where were you?” He says instead. If he’s been caught red handed, he might as well keep digging his grave.
“My sister had a baby! I saved up all my vacation days so I could be with them!” You smiled brightly. Digging your phone out of your pocket, you showed him a picture of you holding a baby in your arms.
“Cute.” He wasn’t sure what was cuter, you with the baby, the baby by itself or just you. As he looked more at it, Kento found himself imagining what it would be like for you to be carrying his baby. Would you even want to start a family? Or perhaps-
“Nanami, are you okay?” Your question broke him out of his little fantasy.
“Huh?”
“Your face got all red, is it too hot in here? I can turn a fan on if you want.”
“N-no.” Clearing his throat, Nanami shook his head. “No. I’m fine.” Finally turning his attention to the case, he looked at what was left. “I’ll have that one.” Pointing to the first thing he saw, he’s surprised you know exactly what he meant.
“Do you want to take it to go? It’d be best for you to get home quickly since it’s raining!” The night sky had fully blanketed the world outside, a nice curtain of rain along with it. Kento didn’t need to think over his decision. He’d be going home in the rain either way, what was the use in just going back to an empty apartment?
“I’ll eat it here. No sense rushing out into the rain to just be alone at home.” With a shrug, his suit jacket came off, and he could see the way you looked at his arms as he pushed his sleeves up. “Besides, someone has to make sure you don’t fall asleep again.”
A little peep left your lips and your face burned with embarrassment. Kento grinned, chuckling to himself and tossing his jacket on a chair near him.
“I’ll have a coffee too, just a small black.”
“No way!” You puff out your cheeks in indignation. “Coffee will keep you up all night! I’ll make you some tea.” Kentos mouth falls open, a little surprised you stood up to him like that. You pay him no mind, turning your back to begin brewing his tea. Closing his mouth, Kento takes a seat in the chair with his jacket.
“Alright, I’ll have tea then.”
First confession
Nanami ended up staying the whole night with you in the bakery, until you had to close
You left the counter and sat with him at the table with your own cup of tea and a seemingly never ending slew of topics to talk about
You were like Gojo, but much more tolerable. A person Nanami could respect, and much cuter than Gojo as well
Somehow, the night had ended with him getting your number, and although he made no promises about being a good correspondent, you still insisted
Any friend of Gojos was a friend of you, apparently
Sometimes you messaged him things about the bakery and he did his best to respond in a timely manner
Others he took the initiative and would message you to ask about your day in the evening or if you were working during the day so he could come see you
And on the lucky chance you were working early in the morning and he had nothing to do, he went to see you
“Hi.” You nearly sang the word when you saw him. He was the first customer of the day, a great way to start an early morning shift.
“How are you?” Kento asks, a soft smile also on his face. Walking right up to the counter, he sees the way you lean against it to be closer to him.
“I’m good! Excited too, we got this new seasonal item.” Your eyes are practically sparkling and with a grin Nanami hums and nods for you to continue. “I know you don’t like sweets, but I really want you to try-”
“(Y/N)!” A crass shout interrupts you and the slamming of the bakery door against the wall makes you jump. Immediately, both you and Kento are looking at the intrusion; Kento in annoyance and you in slight fear.
There are three men waltzing up to the counter, all of them with scary expressions on and clothes that reek of nicotine. The one that had yelled at you was a man with a scar on his lip and a shaved head, tattoos peeking up from his shirt collar. The other two behind him look just as scary, if not more.
“W-what- what do you want?” Kento doesn’t miss the way you’ve started to shake and he takes a subtle step closer to the counter.
“I just wanna know why you’re not returning my calls, that’s it!” This man shouts even though he’s close enough that the sheer volume of his voice makes you flinch. Balling your apron up in your fists, you try not to cower away as he gets right up against the counter.
“I t-told you I-I don’t like you!” You try to raise your voice as well but it doesn’t work. Everyone can see that you’re scared, the trembling of your voice is just more proof.
“Yeah? Well I like you.” The man goes to slap his hand against the counter, but Kento catches his wrist before he can. “Hey, who the fuck are you?”
“A customer that doesn’t like the disturbance you’re causing.” Kento lets the man's wrist go when he pulls on it. Sizing the man up, Kento knows he can take all three of them without an issue, it would be as easy as getting up in the morning. Taking a look at you however, he wanted to avoid causing you anymore distress.
“Like I give a fuck, salaryman.” Flipping him off, the man turns back to you. “Now you li-” Kento punches the man in the face before he can keep talking, sending him flying into the other two.
“I don’t appreciate you talking to (Y/N) like that.” Raising his fists, Kento easily takes down the other two men that charge at him, and he doesn’t break a sweat doing it. The fight - if it could even be called one - lasts all of two minutes.
Making sure the men on the ground won’t move, Kento looks at you. There’s slight tears in your eyes and some on your cheeks and you’re still shaking, but you don’t look as scared as you did. Grabbing the man that had harassed you, Kento forced him to his feet.
“Apologize.”
“As if I’d-” The man starts, but Kento has no patience anymore and swiftly punches him in the liver.
“Try again.”
“I-I’m sorry, (Y/N)!” Choking the words out, the man looks at you with blood in his eyes. “If this psycho is gonna hang around you now, I don’t want any part of you!”
“Good answer.” Dropping him to the floor, Kento kicks him towards the door. “Now get out of here.” He doesn’t have to say it twice for the men to leave. As the door slams closed, Kento hears you break into sobs.
“N-Nanami!” You whine and sob out his name, drawing the last syllable out. Looking at you, Kento coos under his breath seeing your balled up fists near your eyes.
“It’s okay.” He says, watching you walk around the counter and stand in front of him.
“Th-ank yo-you!” The thanks you’re trying to give him barely sounds like real words and in any other situation he’d be embarrassed for you.
“It’s okay.” He says again with a soft sigh, pulling you closer until your head is resting on him. Rubbing a soothing hand on your back, Kento lets you soak his jacket and his shirt with your tears for as long as you need. And by the time you pull away from him, he’s full on hugging you, and you’re hugging him back.
“Sorry.” Your eyes go down to his stained shirt.
“Don’t mind it.” Shaking his head, Kento slowly lets you go. “Who was that, anyway?”
“Just some guy who asked for my number like a week ago.” Wiping away the last of your tears, you look out the window in slight disgust. “I had no idea he would get so...aggressive when I turned him down. It’s not my fault I don’t want to date a criminal.”
“Has he been calling you a lot? He said you weren’t answering.”
“Yeah, I blocked him but he kept calling from different numbers.” Your breathing is back to normal now, the tears that made your lashes cling together were finally drying.
“Give me his number. If he causes you trouble again, I’ll handle it.” Kento holds out his hand, not giving you very much of a choice in the matter. But after seeing how easily he took them down the first time, you weren’t about to withhold it from him.
Ten minutes later, after making sure you’re completely fine and calm, Kento makes an order. He takes two of the seasonal items you’d mentioned, not that he’ll eat both, but he wants to make you feel better.
“I’ll be back to walk you home.” Kento says as he’s leaving, ignoring your shouts that he doesn’t have to. He’d rather not risk those guys following you or doing anything shady.
True to his word he comes back when you’re done for the day, waiting outside for you. When you come, he makes sure you’re standing close to him along the way. It’s silent at first, just the sounds of other people walking by and some traffic one street over filling the air.
“Thank you again, Nanami.” You say as you stop at an intersection. You’d messaged him thanks throughout the day, but it still didn’t feel enough. “To be honest, I wasn’t expecting you to do that sort of thing!” Neither was he. It just happened, a snap decision he made to protect you. He liked you, and seeing you shake like that was something he never wanted to see again.
“I’d do it again.” Is what Kento says, looking up as the sun burns orange-yellow streaks across the sky. “I really like you, and I don’t want that sort of thing to ever happen again.” He lets out a sigh, looking at you from the corner of his eye. People are walking around you, but neither of you make a move to cross the street. “If it’s not too much to ask, don’t talk to any other guys, okay?”
Your eyes widen at his question, lips quivering to fight back a pleased smile. You open your mouth once, twice, before closing it and biting your lip, a shy giggle coming out.
“Okay.” You say with a nod.
“Good.” Lowering his head, Kento softly grabs your hand in his. “Let’s get you home now.”
First date
Even though he’d confessed, the two of you had yet to go on a proper date
Nanami was sweeter to you now, holding your hand on your walks home when he came to get you and he’d hug you if you asked(one day he’d take initiative and hug you first lol)
He wants to ask you on a proper date, but he’s worried that you’ll find him boring
The opportunity arises, however, when Gojo texts you from his phone and sets up a date for the two of you in a park, a picnic date on a day he knows Nanami has off
“K-Kento!” You wave at him as you both approach the park from different ways. You’d only just started saying his first name and it made you feel shy every time you did. “You’re dressed so casually!” Gone was his normal suit and tie, Nanami had on a looser button up and some sensible jeans.
“You look nice too.” Kento smiled, he had seen pictures of you not in your uniform, and sometimes you changed out of it after work, but this was the first time you were dressed with the intention to be cute. He could smell the perfume you were wearing as well, wafting pleasantly through the air and surrounding him when he sits down on the blanket you laid out.
“You know, I was surprised you asked me out on a date.” You say shyly as you both settle down.
“I didn’t.” His answer has you confused and you halt your actions. “Gojo did it for me. I was going to do it myself but...I thought you’d think I’m boring.”
“Never!” Your hand lands on top of his and you shake your head. “You’re not boring at all!”
“Hm, okay then.” Nodding at you, he motions towards the basket you’d brought.
“I made treats at home, look!” Excitedly, you take out the food you’d prepared. It’s all wrapped up cutely in butcher paper, and there’s some smiley face stickers keeping the paper together.
“It looks great.” Stretching out his legs, Kento leans his upper body close to you, nearly resting his head on your shoulder. “You did a great job.” He can smell you even better, the heat of your skin is just barely reaching him.
“You haven’t even tried it yet.” With a bashful little laugh, you unwrap a sandwich you’d made and give it to him.
“I can just tell.” Taking it from you, Kento lets himself rest on your shoulder.
First kiss
Sometime during the picnic, after eating, Nanami finds himself a little tired
It’s so relaxing being out with you, and the afternoon sun is just the right temperature for him to slowly slide from your shoulder onto your lap and doze off
Your hand cards through his hair, gently massaging his head and pushing him deeper into slumber
With his body laid out, Nanami doesn’t even realize he’s asleep until a sharp scream from a playing child rouses him, but he keeps his eyes closed in hopes he’ll go back to sleep
There’s a soft pressure on his forehead, you’re bending down over him and the light filtering in through the tree above you is blocked out for a moment before you’re sitting up again. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out you kissed his forehead.
Cracking an eye open, Kento grins at you when you make a surprised noise in the back of your throat and look away from him.
“I-I didn’t know you were awake.” You mutter, embarrassed at being caught. You wouldn’t have kissed him if you’d known; you were too embarrassed to ask for a kiss, and you weren’t sure if Kento even had an interest in taking your relationship there.
He doesn’t answer, instead taking a deep breath through his nose and sitting up slightly. With a light hand, Kento turns you to face him. He doesn’t get up all the way, but as soon as your face is close enough he pushes up a bit more and kisses you properly on the lips, feeling the smooth glide of your lip balm.
When the kiss breaks, neither of you open your eyes for a while. Kento just keeps his face close, brushing his nose against yours a few times before giving you another peck and then laying down again.
“You don’t have to be shy (Y/N), I want you to kiss me.” He’s keeping his eyes closed now, not because of the sun but because his cheeks are blushing and he knows you can see. His arms that were previously at his sides come to cross his chest, and he pushes his head further into your lap. “We’re dating now, so just do what you want.”
A soft gasp is heard above him and Kento grins when you giggle and brush his hair again.
“Okay.” Leaning down, you give him a firmer kiss on the forehead, and one of your hands grabs his.
“Okay.” He echoes, pulling your hand to his lips and kissing the back of it. You squeeze it tightly and giggle again, overwhelmed by the feeling of happiness. Letting out a yawn, Kentos small grin gets even bigger when you cup his cheek and he opens his eyes to look at you. Suddenly, he’s not so tired anymore.

I was wondering if I could request something? Maybe Sirius' first night at the Dumais' place and Dumo can straight away tell that somethings wrong. Sirius makes polite conversation and it all looks so painful until he retires for the night and Dumo passes by his room and he hears Sirius crying maybe? Because of what his mother said, and maybe because he has trouble adjusting to new situations? Just an idea that popped into my head :) Only if you want to write it <3 Thank you
Yes, I can! I love writing Dumo, but for some reason I don't do it that often--his and Sirius' dynamic is just so wholesome and wonderful. SW credit goes to @lumosinlove!
TW for implied child abuse and broken glass (no injury)
The first thing Pascal Dumais noticed about Sirius Black was how quiet he was. At only eighteen years old, Sirius was taller than most of the other Lions, with broad shoulders and gangly limbs. Yet he moved almost silently, padding along the wood floors in his socks and speaking only when spoken to. It was…honestly, a bit unsettling.
Dumo had expected a rambunctious teenage boy, still high on the thrill of being drafted to the NHL—instead, he found himself the guardian-slash-landlord of a ghost. Sirius unloaded his meager belongings with little fuss and accepted no help, his pale eyes never lingering on either of them for too long.
Celeste poked her head into the living room in the early afternoon when they returned from the grocery store; Sirius was sitting ramrod straight in the smallest chair they had with a thick book in his hands. She knocked gently on the doorframe, and he jumped. “Sirius, would you like some lunch?”
“I don’t want to be any trouble,” he said in that unusually soft voice.
“It’s no trouble,” she assured him.
“I can make myself a sandwich if you have other things to do. Really, I’m alright.”
“When was the last time you ate?”
Sirius blinked, as if he hadn’t expected her to ask, then glanced at the clock on the wall. “I had breakfast at seven and a granola bar on the plane.”
“Sirius, it’s almost two.”
“Is it?”
“Come with me for a moment, oui?” She ushered him into the kitchen; Dumo wasn’t sure he would ever get used to seeing someone so physically imposing walk so small.
“Papa?” Someone tugged on the hem of his shirt and he snapped out of his daze, leaning down to lift Adele into his arms with a smile.
“Bonjour, mon chou! Did you have fun outside?” She nodded, wiggling a little in her excitement, and put her hands on either side of his face. Dumo’s stomach sank. “Why are your hands wet?”
“I washed them!”
“Why?”
“Because we played with chalk!”
Both the boys were at day camp, and Katie was down for her afternoon nap. Dumo wracked his brain. “Who were you playing with?”
“Sirius!” she giggled, then held the front of her shirt out. Wasn’t she wearing a different one this morning?“An’ he said chalk stains, so he lifted me up so I could wash my hands and helped me get my new shirt on when it got stuck and let me braid his hair! Can we keep him? Please, Papa, I wanna keep him forever!”
Dumo kissed her forehead as a wave of emotion tickled the back of his throat. Less than six hours in their home, and Sirius was already connecting with his children. “Oui, we can. Did you say thank you?”
Adele bit her lower lip. “I don’t remember.”
“Sirius?” Dumo called. The clanking in the kitchen stopped. “Can you come here for a moment?”
There was a beat of silence before he appeared in the doorway, looking paler than before as he walked over to them. This boy needs to eat more, the parental part of Dumo’s brain thought instantly. Slate-grey eyes flickered between them. “She—she had chalk on her shirt. I’m sorry, I should have asked.”
“It’s alright. What do you say?” Dumo asked, turning to Adele.
She turned a beaming smile on Sirius. “Thank you!”
His whole face softened in the blink of an eye and he smiled back, giving her a light fist bump. “Pas de problem, petit papillon.”
-------------------------------
Sirius opened up a bit over lunch; Adele perched herself right in his lap with her peanut butter sandwich to his clear astonishment, but his smiles came easier after that and Dumo treasured each one. He was already grateful that Sirius did not seem like the type of asshole player that Dumo remembered from his high school years.
Marc and Louis returned to the house just as they finished, and though Sirius offered to help wash the dishes—the boy was a blessing, really—they shooed him off to play with the kids for a while. It would do them all some good to get out in the sun.
“Quiet, isn’t he?” Celeste remarked as they stood side-by-side at the sink. Her tone was casual, but Dumo saw the worry in her eyes.
He hummed in agreement. “He’s probably just nervous, mon amour. They can take a while to warm up.”
“Pascal, I don’t think—”
The sound of shattering glass echoed from the other room. The house held its breath. “Is everyone alright?” Dumo called, drying his hands on the nearest towel as his pulse picked up. “What happened?”
Hushed whispers floated out, followed by the pitter-patter of little feet. He hurried down the hall with Celeste hot on his heels. “I’m so sorry,” Sirius said as they entered the room. He was kneeling on the wood floor, gathering fragments of a small water glass in one palm. “It was my fault. I hit it with my elbow.”
Celeste frowned. “Boys? Adele? I know you were here.”
Dumo didn’t miss Sirius’ hard swallow, nor the sudden nervousness—no, that was fear—on his face as the three kids crept out from around the corner, looking guiltier than anything. Adele stepped forward, but Sirius stood in a smooth, instinctive motion, keeping her behind him. “It was my fault,” he repeated. Dumo’s heart sank.
“Adele, is that true?”
She looked up toward Sirius, who kept his broad hand ever so slightly in front of her shoulder. Celeste raised an eyebrow. “Adele Marie, tell the truth.”
“No,” she said.
“Come here, please.” Dumo watched Sirius’ breaths go shallow as Celeste beckoned to Adele, but confusion took its place when she crouched to her level. “Thank you. What Sirius did was very nice, but we don’t let other people take the fall for our mistakes in this house, Adele. We accept responsibility. Who broke the cup?”
“I was chasing Marc and we both bumped into the table,” Adele confessed, toying with the hem of her butterfly-patterned shirt. “It was an accident, I promise.”
“Did anyone get hit by the glass?” Dumo asked. All three shook their heads. “Sirius?”
He cleared his throat. “No, Mr. Dumais.”
“Marc, Adele, I want you to find the broom and dustpan so your mother and I can clean this up. Thank you for being honest. Sirius, there’s a trash can in the kitchen, but be careful of the sharp edges. And please, call me Pascal or Dumo.”
But he didn’t stop thinking about the visible alarm on Sirius’ face when Celeste brought Adele forward all afternoon. Something was not right.
--------------------------------
If it wasn’t for the baby, Dumo would not have heard it.
Katie woke around midnight with a quiet whine, which devolved into whimpering, and finally into full-out sobbing for over half an hour. He carried her downstairs so she wouldn’t wake the others and gently rocked her, humming lullabies under his breath until his throat was dry and her tears abated. “There’s my good girl,” he murmured, drying her pudgy cheeks with his sleeve.
The last bits of sleep faded away as he set her down in her crib again, and he sighed. The season didn’t start for more than a month, but he had been looking forward to a few consecutive nights of solid rest before then.
May as well check on the others, he thought, wandering down the hallway in his thickest socks and bathrobe to stave off the nighttime chill. Marc and Louis were each out cold; he took the open book splayed across Marc’s bed and set it on his dresser, turning the lamp off as he left. Adele was curled into a tight ball around no less than four of her precious stuffed animals and he tucked the blankets back over her shoulder.
Dumo’s feet carried him down the stairs before his brain fully caught up, and he paused—Sirius had been in their house for a single day, and already he had the urge to look out for him. The thought should have made him feel silly, but instead he felt…peaceful. He felt right. There was a lost and near-silent boy in his home, who protected his kids within hours of knowing them. Of course Dumo was going to make sure he was alright.
Summer wind rushed past the wide windows as he headed toward the basement. It was warmer there, and he took a moment to mentally pat himself on the back for remodeling two years prior. Hopefully, Sirius would be comfortable.
A soft sound broke through his thoughts. Dumo stopped on the last step.
There was a harsh breath, then a sniffle, as if the person inside was trying and failing to keep their tears in past the point of no return. He heard a few shaky, weak inhales, then a choked noise that cut off abruptly with a gulp.
Dumo closed his eyes to hold back tears of his own and knocked lightly on the bedroom door.
Everything went silent with a rustle.
“Sirius?” he whispered, raising his voice just enough to be heard through the door. “Are you awake?”
There was no answer.
“Can I come in?” he ventured.
An unsteady voice answered. “Ouais.”
The door creaked a little as he opened it and stepped into the dark room. Sirius was nothing more than a clump of shadows on the far side of the bed, squished tight against the wall with all his blankets wrapped around him. “What happened?”
“Nothing. Je vais bien.”
“Can I sit?” Dumo fully expected Sirius to tell him ‘no’, to make an excuse, to pull some arrogant teenager nonsense.
Instead, he tucked his legs up and made room near the foot of the bed with another sniffle. “Did I wake you?”
“Non. Katie was crying, and I thought I’d check on everyone.” He settled down and scooted until his back was against the wall as well—Sirius was still hiding in a cocoon of his duvet, but his hand came up to wipe his face. “Do you want to talk?”
“About what?”
“You seem upset. I know the homesickness is hard for the first few days, but—”
“No.” The vehemence of Sirius’ answer shocked him into silence. “No. I’m not homesick. I just—so much has happened, and I—it’s—this is everything I wanted, right here, and—”
He broke off with a wounded noise that broke Dumo’s poor heart right down the middle. He moved closer until their shoulders touched; to his surprise, Sirius leaned on him and shivered. “How can I help you?” Dumo asked quietly.
“Your family…” Sirius shook his head and drew the covers tighter. “You have a beautiful family. You should be proud of them.”
“I am, every day.”
“Your kids love you so much.” It was barely more than a whisper.
Dumo sighed through his nose. “I know.”
“No, you don’t, they—you’re their hero. And not because of hockey.”
That was Dumo’s dream, laid out right in front of him. If someone he hardly knew could see that, then it must be true. The impact was greater than he ever could have imagined; his lungs felt tight. “Thank you. Is it alright if I ask you something?”
Sirius stiffened slightly.
“You’re not in trouble, and you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. I’m just…worried.”
He felt Sirius shift. “This is about the glass.” It wasn’t a question.
“Oui.” Dumo searched for the words and scrounged up any sliver of tact he could find. “Sirius, do you—what happens when you break a glass at your house?”
Sirius’ breath rushed from his lungs in a near-silent sob. Dumo gathered him close in his arms and held him, letting tears dampen his shoulder as he murmured soft reassurances in French. “I’m sorry,” Sirius croaked, though he did not move away. “I’m sorry for—for intruding, and for ruining your shirt—”
“You have nothing to be sorry for.” Dumo gave him a light squeeze of comfort and felt him go a bit boneless. “And you are not intruding. We love having you here with us.”
“Really?”
He sounded so unsure. So young. Dumo wished he could take away whatever horrible things had been said to ever make someone so kind feel so small. “Yes. Adele, especially.”
“She’s so…colorful.” Fondness dripped from every word.
“She is,” Dumo agreed. “She came running up to me, and went ‘papa, papa, can we keep him?’”
Sirius laughed a little at his imitation and straightened up, drying his eyes on his hoodie sleeve. They sat quietly for a while until the shaking stopped and his death grip on the comforter loosened. “Thank you, Mr. Dumais.”
“Call me Pascal, or Dumo if you like. ‘Mr. Dumais’ makes me sound like a grandfather.” They laughed together, then fell silent once more. “And you’re welcome. Any time you need help, you can come to me. I might not be your father, but—”
“You’re better,” Sirius interrupted, wiping his nose. His shadow turned to face Dumo in the dark, and though he couldn’t see his face, he could picture the earnest expression. “In every way. Please don’t tell anyone about this, though.”
“It never even crossed my mind,” Dumo answered honestly. “I should let you sleep now. We have some busy weeks ahead of us, eh?”
“Bonne nuit, M—Dumo.” The name carried new weight and he let it sink in as Sirius laid back down and kicked his blankets back into place. Something told him this was the beginning of a very interesting story.
“Bonne nuit, Sirius. Welcome to our home.”

Table Eight

Summary |  You get stood up on a date, but don’t worry, there’s a cute chef there to cheer you up
Words | 1.5k
A/N | Ooh by I was rushing to get this finished in time for his birthday :’) The best boy who deserves so much more content, and I will solely provide it if I have to. Considering he's a comedian now, I think he would probably talk a bit more then he used to
Hmm I’ve been working on this on and off for a while, trying to get it right, but it just didn’t come out the way I wanted? I definitely like it, but it could've been better, ya know?
<<—>>—<<—>>
You watched as the time on your phone ticked over, signifying that you'd been here for over an hour. Sighing, you clicked onto your messages. Nothing new, no reply to the text you'd sent to the guy you were supposed to be meeting up with.
He stood you up. Things were going so well between the two of you in the beginning, but the moment you wanted to meet everything seemed to go downhill. Honestly, you should've expected this; he would take hours to reply, and when he did it was never more than a few texts.
Bringing your hands to your face you sat there for a moment, contemplating your options. You could go home, but you’d have to wait for your friend to pick you up, seeing as you’d walked here; and there was no way you'd be walking back alone at almost 9 pm. That meant that you would have to wait at this restaurant even longer, and you hadn't even ordered anything.
As if on cue, your stomach rumbled, startling you more than you would admit. Bringing up your phone once again, you blocked his number and texted your friend, telling them that things didn't work out and you needed a ride. You set your phone down on the table, feeling it tilt as you shifted your weight, polished wood creaking under you. This diner wasn’t the most sophisticated place someone would usually go for a first date, but considering your current predicament, your choice seemed perfect.
It wasn't your fault he stood you up, you knew that, but that doesn't take away the way it hurt. Maybe you could have avoided this, if only you had predicted it...
Snatching the menu from where it had been sitting on the table all night, you just stared at it, eyes glossing over the words. At least you could make it seem like you were going to order. It probably only took a minute or two, but it felt like much longer, before someone was clearing their throat near you.
“Are uh, you okay? You’ve been sitting here for quite a while.” It was one of the servers, holding a pitcher of water in one hand, and a notepad in the other. “Can I get you anything?”
Glancing over the menu one last time, you didn’t look him in the eyes, knowing you would break down. Instead, you focused on his short hair, the lighting above you turning the brown a more pinkish colour. “Just get me whatever the chef would recommend.”
He gave you a quick nod, scribbled something on his notepad and left to take other patrons’ orders, never mind that you were one of the only people in the diner.
Eleven minutes later—you had been counting, someone you could only assume was the chef stepped from the kitchen. With both hands, he held a plate of food you couldn't recognize. He looked over the diner, presumably searching for your table number, number eight. The chefs’ hat he wore shifted as he turned, strands of dark hair peeking out from under it.
Helping him out a little you shifted your table number toward the center where he would be able to see it better. It didn't take him long to see you, considering there were even fewer people than before. He set your food down in front of you and you were finally able to get a good look at it. It was some sort of orange rice dish mixed with seafood.
“Oh thank you, and uh, I don’t mean to be rude but what is this?”
“Paella, a specialty of mine,” he supplied with a small smile, “it’s great with a little extra seasoning.”
Reaching for the salt you thanked him for the food, it really did look delicious. “And how much is this gonna come to? I should make sure I have enough money beforehand.”
“It’s on the house, you look like you’ve had a night peppered with disappointments,” he said, a chuckle escaping him as he slid the pepper shaker over to you. “Well I better get back to the kitchen, hopefully the rest of your night goes well.”
You watched as he walked back to the kitchen, stopping halfway to answer a question from a customer. He looked back at you after he opened the door to the kitchen, throwing you a quick thumbs-up, then he was gone.
You couldn't deny that he was cute, but the fact that he made a pun was like the icing on the top of a cake. You don't know when you had started smiling, but you definitely didn't stop until the sound of his voice left your head.
The paella was amazing. Cooked perfectly—and thanks to his advice, the right amount of seasoning. You’d have to thank him the next time you saw him.
Checking your phone, you read the text from your friend saying they would arrive in just over ten minutes. You yawned, glancing at the time. 9:16 pm. Resting your head and arms on the table, you figured you could rest until your friend got here.
Once again, the sound of someone clearing their throat caught your attention. It was the pink-haired server from before, whose nametag read Hanamaki. He gestured to your empty plate, leaning to pick it up, “Are you done with this? Looks like you enjoyed it.”
“Yeah I'm done, it was really good. But are you sure I don't have to pay? I’d feel bad just eating it like that,” you reached to grab your wallet, fully ready to pay whatever it cost.
“Nah it’s fine.” He brushed you off, wiping down your table with a cloth, “could you pass me the table number?”
You grabbed the small card, looking at the number before handing it to him, “Well thank you, I really appreci-eight it.”
He stopped, a look that you could only describe as a mix between disappointment and fighting off a smile adorning his face as he shook his head at you. Somewhere behind you came a familiar chuckle, then the cute chef appeared next to you, no longer with his hat or apron, but a bag slung over his shoulder.
Hanamaki sighed lightheartedly, turning to his chef co-worker, “Alright, two joke-makers is enough for me, could you close up, Fukunaga?” He asked, already walking away.
The chef, Fukunaga apparently, nodded to him and slid into the chair across from you.
“Wait, close up? I didn’t realize I’ve been here so long, I’m so sorry, I was just waiting on my friend to pick me up. I can leave if you want?” You offered, scrambling to grab your belongings.
He dismissed you with a small shake of his head, “It’s fine, I’ve got some time to kill anyway. Wanna tell me what's been bothering you all night?”
“No, no, I don’t want to bother you with my troubles,” you started, but the look on his face told you he didn’t mind listening to you ramble. “Hmm, well, if you insist,” and you told him about the night you’ve had. The guy that stood you up, having to wait for your friend to pick you up, the amazing paella he cooked for you.
At this point, you were thankful your date hadn't shown up; if he did you probably would have ignored him in favor of your cute chef anyway.
In turn, Fukunaga told you a bit about himself, although in fewer words than you had used. He told you about his part-time job here as a chef, mainly because being a comedian doesn't pay as well as it should, and how he was heading somewhere after he closed up to perform one of his comedy acts.
“So you’re a comedian? That explains the love for puns! Maybe I could come to one of your shows sometime?” You were half-joking, but the way Fukunaga sat up a little straighter at your suggestion meant he liked the idea anyway.
Your phone buzzed beside you. Once. Twice. On the third buzz, you finally tore yourself away from the conversation you were invested in. They were texts from your friend, letting you know they were here, and you should hurry up and get in the car.
Finally standing up to leave, you thanked Fukunaga one last time for the paella, and once more for waiting with you when he could’ve closed up. “I’ll be sure to come here more often, and next time I had better get to hear more of your jokes.”
He held the door open for you with his shoulder as you walked out, giving you two thumbs up, “I’ll be sure to reserve table eight for you.” He paused looking away for a second, “I got no puns for that one. But I’ll be looking forward to it.”
The second you stepped into the car, your friend bombarded you with questions, but one stood out more than the rest, “Why do you look so happy? I thought that guy stood you up?”
“Oh yeah, he absolutely did. But that might’ve been one of the best nights I’ve had.”
