Winter Wonderklok 2023

Welcome to the first ever Winter Wonderklok! A holiday Metalocalypse themed event leading up to Christmas. Twelve days of prompts instead of gifts for your true love. How zazzy is that! You are free to create anything you want. Make art, write stories, put together playlists, design moodboards and overall, take the time to have fun with it. I know this coming out a smidge early, but I want to make sure everyone has time to relax after kloktober, think and create. I made it a point to try and be as broad as possible because I know not everyone celebrates Christmas. Please feel free to adjust to your standards. As a fan creator myself, I do these things for the fun of it and in a way that fits my style. I encourage you all to do the same. Don’t feel like a certain prompt? Do something else entirely!

There are a few things I would like to clarify and they go as follows:

What do you mean by ‘Rankin Bass?’ Rankin Bass is the production company that produced all of your favorite Christmas movies like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Beautiful puppetry and stop motion pioneers that are cherished to this day. I challenge artists to attempt the style in their own way. Or simply have your character of choice enjoying the specials. However you want to tackle the iconic figures.

What do you mean by ‘Saran wrap ball?’ It’s a type of grab bag game that involves…saran wrap! Who would’ve thought. I will attach a video below for reference on how it’s made and how it’s played. I will say that each house has their own rules so feel free to adjust anything you’d like.

What do you mean by ‘OC Special?’ I am an OC (original character) writer. Many of my friends are too. The few prompts that are labeled ‘OC special’ are meant to encourage use of OCs, interaction with other OCs and even creation of new OCs. I would love for people to take the opportunity to create someone or something new or try something they’ve been meaning to for a while. Challenge yourself! But if that isn’t your style, that’s okay too. If you do not want to use or make an OC, you’re more than welcome to use a canon character of choice instead.

What do you mean by ‘Toys for Tots?’ This is a charity program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose families cannot afford to buy them for Christmas. Ongoing for over seventy five years and common enough, but just in case anyone needed a reminder.

The whumpee had always been the type to play with fire- they were cocky, confident, and didn’t believe their actions would ever catch up to them. The whumpee’s luck ran out when they crossed the path of the whumper, who not only took offense to the whumpee’s attitude, but if anything, their torture was fueled by the whumper’s desire to wipe the smirk off of the whumpee’s face.

Portal 12 Days of Christmas Prompt List

What's this? Portal Christmas prompts? Sort of. Taking inspiration from the time of year, the celebrations, and the song itself, I'd like to present to you the Portal 12 Days of Christmas prompt list!

I did a lot of research to find prompts in four categories: prompts inspired by the song itself, prompts inspired by the various feasts and celebrations, prompts inspired by the more mundane aspects of the holiday, and of course Portal-specific prompts inspired by the first three in various ways.

While the actual 12 days of Christmas start at the end of the month, that time of year is far too busy for this sort of thing so I felt it would be better to post it earlier in the month to give people ample time to participate if they so choose.

Testing doesn't stop, even during the holidays, so let's bring some Aperture-themed cheer!

Written list and guidelines under the cut.

The rules are simple.

There's absolutely no obligation to participate every day. Some people are more busy than others this time of year, so participate at your own pace and comfort level. If you aren't inspired by a day's prompts or end up too busy to keep going, that's totally fine! It's all for fun.

Any medium you want to use is fine, whether physical or digital. Sketches, writing, felt work, renders, completed art… whatever sort of inspiration you might get!

The Lord of the Rings Secret Santa 2023 prompt meme signups are OPEN!

So, it's that time of the year again: time to sign up for the Lord of the Rings Secret Santa exchange! Slash, femslash, het and gen; you can request it all, so why not join in?

2023 is a year of special magnificence for this exchange, as it has now been going for TWENTY years! We'd love to see you join us for this anniversary.

Lord of the Rings Secret Santa has been a traditional exchange since its inception, but we continue to adapt and refine the exchange to best serve all participants. The exchange has been in the form of a prompt meme since 2020.

You will be able to post up to 2 prompts between November 1st and 30th, and we will do our best to make sure at least one of your prompts is filled.

Your fill is due December 31st 11:59 pm Pacific Time (you can check what that is in your time zone here). Please post it to AO3 (and nowhere else, until January 10th).

As a matter of fairness, please make your story more than 750 words (1000 is better).

Once claiming has opened, please only claim a prompt if you plan on actually fulfilling your end of the bargain, and please only claim one prompt at a time. After you have completed your fill, you may claim a new one.

Escaflowne Holiday Season Writing Prompts

It's the festive season, Escafans!

In order to spread festive cheer and spark our imaginations, I would like to be challenged to write short pieces about your favourite characters from The Vision of Escaflowne doing Christmassy stuff this month. It could be a trip to Earth to learn about the local traditions or an equivalent holiday in their own culture.

The rules are simple: Just pick a prompt and tell me which character or characters you'd like to see in this yuletide situation.

Individual characters doing these activities are fine, but I also encourage friendship duos and groups, family members, and couples. I would like to try imagining different characters in these situations, including characters I don't usually make fanstuff for.

No NSFW but implied adult situations are acceptable.

No adult situations with incest or child characters.

Please include as many details you want. I will attempt to work them into the short story appropriately.

I will write a 5-10 paragraph mini fic based on your prompt. I will share the fics on A03 as chapters in one fiction and on Tumblr as individual posts over the next month.

Welcome to the 16th Annual 25 Days of Draco and Harry Challenge—Traditional Edition for 2023.

It's time again for you all to enjoy a variety of Christmas themed works from a wonderful group of creators across as many platforms as they choose to post to: Tumblr, Live Journal, Dreamwidth, Pillow Fort, and of course AO3.

You can follow the fest right here, using #25 Days 2023, on Discord (Sign Up form) and the AO3 Collection. After December, we will also binge-read a heap of fics, and post the master list.

Day One—Shopfronts on a Snowy Street A shop front on a snow-covered street is shown. The building is made from dark brown bricks, and snow has gathered on its front and at the bottom of the large windows on either side of the door. Inside the windows, fairy lights are visible casting a warm glow within the building. The ground outside the show is covered in snow, and there are footprints that indicate recent pedestrian traffic. Three lighted lamp posts are visible on the street, each with garlands of evergreen boughs wound around their poles, and creating a circle over their top. Writing Prompts

Villian X Hero

༺˚ʚ White Day ɞ˚༻

"Excuse me!...Excuse me"- Hero looked around frantically for an opening of space as the city was bustling with citizens everywhere. Not that it was their fault. Today was an extremely important day for all! It was White Day. The day in which you reciprocate your gift to a loved one.

Hero let out an exhausted sigh as she managed to slip into a cafe, narrowly escaping the sea of people. Looking around, Hero noticed it was rather busy inside as well, though nothing like outside. Standing in line, Hero took note of the couples, or those who seemed to be a couple. There had to be at least twenty-seven of them, if not more. Each one showing their affection for one another. Teddy bears and stuffies littered tables, while baskets of confections and other gifts decorated the floor.

Now at the front of the line, Hero placed her usual order. "Creamed Hazel Almond Latte, please...add caramel". Even the employees seemed fairly delighted. Not that they were normally boring or sad- no, they were usually cheerful. However, today they were right along with the whole Cafe's mood.

"Ooh...extra caramel, huh"? The cashier, chimed.

"Y-yeah.." Hero muttered.

"Today's either a rough day, or...you're getting some noteworthy thrill soon"?

"No Maverick, i'm not getting a thrill. Today is okie...but quite busy".

"Oh? Well, maybe your lover will brighten your day today. It is White Day after all"! Maverick beamed.

"Hahaha! No, I don't have a lover. I'm Hero-it would probably be too dangerous for anyone to be with me". Hero suddenly felt out of place. Like she didn't belong there. Couples were everywhere. Swarming the city like love bugs.

Maverick gave Hero a pensive look before snapping out of thought. "Ah, well, you've got your appetizing latte. It's got plenty of love. If that's not enough, I'm here"~ Maverick handed Hero her order, giving a wink and a bright, keen, smile.

"Mm, I'll keep you in mind" Hero giggled. Walking outside, Hero took one last glimpse at the couples inside, before exiting the Cafe. "Haa..It was getting kind of stuffy in there". Hero joined in the traffic of people, passing by couple after couple.

"Wait- Wait! Taxi! Taxi!" Hero panted, catching her breath, as she waved down a taxi. Why did today have to be so difficult? Hero had previously stopped at the Mall, looking for some clothing. Unfortunately, it was brimming with lovers everywhere. The majority seemed to want to take their time in the affairs, while others seemed a bit competitive to get their significant other something before anyone else got their hands on it. Thankfully, no one caused much of a ruckus. However, that did not spare Hero the shoving and bumping into on accord to hasty couples going on about their day.

Regaining her posture, Hero watched as the taxi pulled over, before getting in. "Thank you, sir"! The man seemed to be in his mid twenties and in quite the good mood. More than likely it was the daysy holiday. Everyone seemed to be sporting well.

"My pleasure, young lady. Where to?"

"Nier Terminal, please".

Hero took the moment to breathe, sitting back. 'Goodness, today's been busy for sure'. Hero quickly whipped out her phone, checking for messages. 'Thank God! No missed calls or messages. Seems like even the Agency is celebrating today. Good for them; Teammates, Superhero, and Commander all posted pictures of themselves enjoying the day. There haven't been any crime reports today as well'.

The taxi came to a sudden stop, alarming Hero. Horns were blaring and honking all around. "W-what happened"?

"Sorry miss, seems like everyone's busy today. Quite a lot of traffic ahead of me".

Looking ahead, Hero saw taxis and other vehicles packed, stretching street after street. "Oh no...is there another way"?

"If I could pick the taxi up and move it, trust me I would, otherwise, we're stuck here, apologies". The man gave a small frown, indicating his sorrow.

Hero stuck her head out of the window, looking around frantically for another way. Opening the door was definitely going to hit another car, and getting another taxi was out of the question. Maybe it would not be too long? "How long do you think before traffic starts to move"?

"From the looks of it...possibly an hour or two"?

"I can't do that". Hero quickly handed the driver a wad of cash. "keep the change! Have a lovely day"! Hero called out giving a smile. Letting her window down, Hero squeezed through the opening, hearing a tear here and there. Running through the traffic, squeezing through vehicle after vehicle, Hero ran as fast as she could.

Hero ran inside the terminal, finally making it. It was also crammed. 'Why! Why! This is insanity'! Hero started to make her way through the crowd, giving her apologies along the way. "Excuse me! S-sorry". Most people ignored her, others simply gave a look, before turning back to their own conversations and what not.

"I'm not going to make it"!! 'please no! I have to try'! Hero continued to push through as politely and quick as she could, finally making it though, with a fall along the way. "Agh"! Quickly getting up, Hero called out for the train, as it's doors were closing. "Wait! Please wait"!! Making it by the jump, the doors closed right behind Hero. The train was also cramped tight. To add on, Hero was tired, in pain, and sweaty. Hero hated it. She felt exhausted and wanted the day to end.

Taking a step forward, Hero was stopped by a tug on her skirt. "What the"? Hero looked back to see the hem of her skirt was caught in between the doors of the train. "you've got to be kidding me.." Hero tried to pull and tug on it, but to no avail did it come out. Accepting defeat, Hero leaned back against the door, taking the moment to clear her mind.

Hero looked up hearing the speakers overhead, " Nier Terminal, last stop in four hours; Nier Terminal, last stop in four hours". Hero rolled her eyes, taking a hand through her hair. ' I'll be there late! Almost at midnight '!! "This truly isn't my day is it?......I wish this train wasn't so cramped. I wish I was the only one on here".

The lights started to flicker, before the whole train went pitch black, passing through a small tunnel. After passing through, the lights came back on. To Hero's surprise there was not a single person on the train. No one, except Hero, and possibly the Conductor. "Hello"? Hero looked around before her eyes landed on a man dressed in all black. His hands were behind his back, and his eyes were locked on Hero.

"Hello, Hero"~ The man cooed.

Hero recognized the voice immediately. It was Villian. "What are you doing here? Where is everyone? Are you here to start trouble..I'm not in the mood to fight you today". Hero frowned.

"I'm here for you. They're all gone, safe I assure you. They're at their designations. I'm not looking for trouble".

"Why are they gone"?

"You did wish for that did you not? I heard you".

"Oh..right. Well, what did you need me for"?

Villain pulled out a bouquet of flowers. "These are for you".

Hero scoffed. "I don't have time for games. I'm tired"

"It's no game, Hero. I mean it".

"You know this could cause a misunderstanding. Someone may say something about this".

"I don't care. Think of it as payback".

"Payback? For what"?

"A month ago exactly, you saved my life, remember? I was on the verge of death, I felt hurt, tired and exhausted. I knew no one would even think about me if I died. They'd all probably celebrate. I felt like-out of place. However, you showed up, and saved me. You could have easily let me die, or turned me in to the authorities, but instead you took me with you and helped me recover. I felt embarrassed at first, I hated it. Though, after thinking about it. I realized you were the only one who cared..who had showed me humanity".

"Villain that's just basic human decency"-

"No one else would have shown me!...thank you Hero. Thank you for saving me. For showing me mercy. For being "My Hero ".

"What are you trying to say"?

"I love you, Hero".

"Stop. You can't. Not only would it be problematic but, it would be dangerous, for the both of us"!

"I'll protect you with my life".

"You do know how insane this sounds, right"?

"Only the best Villain knows".

Hero remained silent.

"Will you accept me, Hero"? Villain offered the bouquet.

Hero felt a pang in her chest. She felt flustered, and confused. Hero was exhausted, yet a burning feeling in her chest was giving her a rush of adrenaline. Hero felt a hot liquid on her face. Touching her cheek, she saw tears. Today had been hard. The day had been consuming Hero. She felt completely weak and weary. Everything seemed to be going wrong for her. So...why was Villian the one to show her differently, and today out of all days? Why did he show her care, what seems like.."love".

"Today hasn't been your day, has it"? Villian gave a soft smile.

Hero couldn't take it anymore. Hero started bawling, rubbing her eyes, wiping away tear after tear. Hot tears stinging her eyes and streaming down her face. "It's not fair-it's not fair at all!" Hero choked out. "Everyone's having a wonderful day, I just wanted mine to be calm. It's been crap! Now you're coming here and making me feel this way"!!

"It's alright Hero" Villain reassured. "You don't have to worry anymore. Your day can be as calm as you want, now that I'm here".

Hero looked at Villain with puffy red eyes, tears coming to a stop. "What are you talking about"?

"I mean I'll do whatever I can to make you happy".

Hero let out a shaky sigh, shaking her head. "What about the public"?

"It's a lovely day, maybe today I've changed"?

"If that doesn't work"?

"I can live a double life".

"..Pfft!...hahaha"! Hero wiped her face feeling warm inside. "You're so sly".

Villian walked forward. "I'm glad you know me so well, love".

"Well then, I'd like to spend the rest of them closer with you"~ Villian chuckled, snaking his arm around Hero's waist, pulling Hero in closer.

Hero realized the hem of her skirt was no longer stuck in the doors of the train.

"Really now? And what's the first thing you'd do"? Hero smirked, looking up at Villian through long lashes.

"How about a kiss"? Villain leaned down.

Hero leaned in, soft lips pressing against Villian's own. Passion growing, the kissing getting deeper and deeper. The scent of leather, and cologne clouding Hero's mind.

"Mhh, Happy White Day, my love" Villian murmured through the kiss giving a sharp fanged smile.

My December Challenges Masterlist

Alright, tomorrow the last month of the year begins and with it there come a lot of fanfiction writing challenges. This is going to be my masterpost, in the hope that I will manage to update this every day and not forget about it halfway through.

I am very hungry right now - so I am going to write for three challenges. My own Fluffcember Challenge with 31 stories for a variety fandoms, @amonthofwhump's Winter Whumperland Chalenge with 12 Stories focusing on Astarion from Baldur's Gate 3 and @justporo's BG3 Winter Holiday Challenge with 12 stories focusing each on different characters from BG3.

A few weeks ago I received an ask about doing another holiday prompt list this year, and it was suggested to use the same list from last year as there were so many prompts on it. So here is the list for the Choices Flashfics Holiday Prompt event, starting Sunday November 26th and running through January 6th.

Guidelines:

The fic can be no more than 2500 words. Word count must be present.

The prompts must be used exactly as they are except if you need/want to change “Christmas” in any of the prompts to another winter holiday that you/your character(s) celebrate, you may do so. (some already give an option, but you can choose any winter holiday that fits your story, or just “the holidays” is fine too)

Any of the prompts used must be bolded. Please put in your A/N which prompt(s) you’re using and specify if they are from the holiday prompt list and/or the weekly prompt list.

Use proper warnings/tags for the fics if they require any (nsfw, etc.)

Tag @choicesflashfics when you post and your fic will be reblogged. If your fic isn’t reblogged within 48 hours of posting (because we all know how tumblr tags are wonky sometimes), send a message with the link.

Post your holiday fic(s) by Saturday, January 6th (11:59 EST)

You can post as many holiday fics using as many of the prompts from the holiday list as you want during the duration of the event. You can combine the prompts with the weekly flashfics prompts if you’d like and/or use them with other ongoing Choices events. Any fics submitted will be linked in that respective week’s weekly fics post, and a special post containing all submitted holiday fics will be posted Sunday, January 7th. I hope these lend some inspiration if needed!
