Hail Mary, motherfucker, how'd I make it this far?
No regrets, I repent, resurrect, resurrect
From the dirt out the grave, comin' straight for the neck

Happy May! The best month! 💖🌷
Imogen, Obviously by Becky Albertalli is one of the few books on this list that I have had the great fortune to have already read, and it easily and quickly became one of my favorite books. I love this story of bi-realization and what queer infighting and virtue signaling does to our community, and I love the tender newness of this love story! Thinking about this book makes me feel weepy, and I desperately want all of you to read it.
To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose is a Native led fantasy about dragon training and colonization. This book sounds really, really cool, and seems like it could be a bit of a more diverse Dragon Prince, but academic.
All the Dead Lie Down by Kyrie McCauley would have made it on this list even if it didn't look so intriguing, because I trust McCauley so much to make a captivating story with strong, vivid characters. This time, however, things are going Gothic! This is a creepy story of nannying and old houses and horror writers that I'm sure will be stunningly atmospheric.
Fake Dates and Mooncakes by Sher Lee is a queer romance starring two Chinese men and looks so fluffy and cute. This one has a fake dating of convenience to help boost business and just from that cover alone I'm sure it's going to be sweet as anything.
Painted Devils by Margaret Owen is the sequel to Little Thieves, and while it very much does feel like a middle book in a trilogy (which I'm still so excited about!) it gives all the meddling Vanja and low gods vibes as before, now with more romance and absolute need for therapy. I have read this one, and need the next book in my hands like a month ago thank you.
Venom & Vow by Anna-Marie McLemore and Elliot McLemore is the queer romantic fantasy of my dreams! This one has mistaken identities and hidden identities all due to nefarious plots and fluid genders! I love Anna-Marie McLemore and everything about this screams that I would love it, so I'm gnashing at the bit to get this one!
We'll Never Tell by Wendy Heard is yet another book I know I'll probably love based first and foremost on the author. I loved Dead End Girls, and Heard's 3rd book feels like it'll be a similar vibe. This one is about a group of teen investigators accidentally biting off more than they can chew and causing one of their group to get murdered.
Something Like Possible by Miel Moreland I've already read and have been looking forward to seeing it out on the shelf since last year! If you loved the politics of Red White & Royal Blue but would love a YA, sapphic take- grab this book! The politics here are mostly class president based but everything feels more significant and the themes are just heavy enough to do real heavy lifting. Plus, of course, the romance is impeccable.
Threads That Bind by Kika Hatzopoulou claims to be a bit of a mix of Percy Jackson and Song of Achilles, following descendents of Greek figures who inherit their power. The main character of this is a descendant of The Fates (amazing concept right there!) and must use her powers to solve a string of brutal murders

Omg omg omg omg omg omg Mari's turn
HELLO MARI I LOVE YOU!!! WHERE WAS THAT SONG I SAW FOR YOU-
Mari, you are someone really kind and sweet... You say you struggle with words, yet the way you express your kindness and concern through your actions is something I'll never get tired of thanking you for. You are truly sweet and kind, not forgetting your beautiful art that I'll also always be happy to compliment! Heh!! This song feels, like it's name says, a tiny bit of light, like a small candle in the middle of the cold, gently warming up your hands. You feel like that, so gently warm.... Oh! As I was looking which other song to give you, I saw this one and... My heart said I should give it to you, it's called Kokoronashi (video, it also has Portuguese subs <3)
As I was looking at the video, I noticed that I feel I know less about you than even the subtleties from Mg, and yet you are quite kind... This song is special, you know? The vibe, the strong and beautiful vocals... The feelings and the lyrics. This time more than instinct, it was my heart who chose to give you this one, I hope you enjoy it, I love you a lot. And your third one....
The Spotify one isn't the version I wanted tho. The song is Electric Angel (Rin & Len ver.), I SAW IT AND SAID OMG GIVE HER THIS ONE!! ITS SUCH A PRETTY AND ENERGETIC SONG!!! And look it can either be for you, for your pookie, for koto, you can adapt it to your needs, yes yes. ITS SO GOOD I LOVE THIS ONE!
I love you mari <3 sorry to keep you waiting heh I hope you enjoy them
Omg yay my turn arrived!!! Ty Seari <;333 (and sorry for the delayed answer, I only saw it now T~T)
Alright, first of all, you just reminded me about Erased after so long and now i have the urge to rewatch it again LMAO......why do I want to make myself suffer again......Anyways- I never heard the eng version, it's pretty good!! It's a song that has somewhat of a hopefull feeling? idk how to describe it....but ty I love it!! I had completely forgotten about it.
The other two I actually have never heard before and dam the vocals on the second one- I could realy feel the emotion....I want to hug him too now and the lyrics omg. That song was so pretty, I think I'm going to snatch it to my spotify tbh. The last of the 3 is honestly adorable and groovy, it reminds me of something but I haven't figured out whatbut it did fill me with a happy vibe!! (and I see what you mean about how it can be for either, ty ty hehe)
About your words- I really don't know what to say. Honestly I never know what to say in response to kind words and compliments....but thank you, really 🥹 I love you too <333 I know I don't talk much...I'm kind of self conscious about what I say because I'm always paranoid of oversharing and ruining the mood or something of the sort- I'm sorry😭😭I'm always free to share stuff if people ask but I really avoid taking the iniciative... But anyways!! Thank you so much for the 3 songs, I loved all of them in their own way and thank you for taking the time to think what songs you'd assign me really T~T <33

I promised a couple of people in the comments that I would write up my thoughts on the relationship between for the benefit of all the broken hearts and the Carly Rae Jepsen album The Loneliest Time, and as a way of dealing with some wicked writer's block, here it is. (below the cut, because long, and I know only a few followers/mutuals are likely to be interested. also: spoilers for my fic, if you are interested in it but haven't read/finished.)
fwiw, even if you have no interest in this particular fic, I highly recommend the album, it's great!
So I wrote most of this fic while listening to this album: I was looking for some good background music, I wanted some pop music, and I had listened to it once and thought it was pretty good, so I put it on. And THEN it turns out most of the album hits the Themes and Motifs I was playing with, and I became obsessed. (Tidal continues to let me know, month after month, just how obsessed.) And CRJ became an ingredient in the character I was writing, which turned into a great feedback loop of the music and the aesthetic and getting sent interviews, which fed back into the character, etc etc etc.
As I was writing, I ended up with the headcanon that this album is sort of/mostly/not entirely/in a parallel dimension the album that the unnamed protagonist is working on throughout the story. Which in the story, she's written about half an album, quite a bit of which is about her relationship with Ed, and then she's inspired to write new songs by the events of the story itself. In my head, that works with the songs in the real album in the real world, because I think of them as three categories.
I will say that sometimes songs move around in categories in my head, or I've thought about their relationship to the story in different ways over time, which is part of the experience of mostly listening to a single album for seven months. (Apologies to my neighbors, I guess? Or anyone who has ridden in my car.)
Songs that have nothing to do with the story
If this is the album in the story, these are songs she wrote before the story that are not related to her relationships, they're just songs.
Beach House - although a song like this is directly referenced, I think a couple of times? She redirects the interview in the final scene by talking about something like it, a song inspired by terrible online dating experiences, which I think is something I heard in a CRJ interview about Beach House.
Bends (which is apparently a song CRJ wrote about grief from losing a family member) - the chorus is very vibes but it doesn't hit anything in particular
Western Wind - likewise vibes but not story
Shooting Star - I do love this song, but yeah, not part of the story
Pre-WFU (or at least pre-story) songs about Ed
These are also songs she came into the studio with, but they are specific to her relationship with Ed, and a particular conception of them that she has in her head. I am agnostic about whether she wrote them entirely before WFU, or in the gap during/after when she didn't know about those events.
So Nice - this is the song re: Ed; it's the song she can't quite get in the studio after meeting Mary, the song she remembers writing while watching him, the song she can finally record properly after things are more resolved. (Yeah there is a direct reference, I happened to be writing a particular bit of chapter 9 while it was playing, and decided to do something silly.) This song inspired a lot of how I thought about her feelings about Ed, too.
Surrender My Heart (this is the song that gave me the title) - altho this one I can sometimes see either way, as something she came in with or as something she wrote as it happened?
Sideways
No Thinking Over The Weekend
Songs from the story
These are the songs that she writes over the course of the story, and that as I listened to them, had extra resonance for writing the story. Some of them I associate strongly with particular chapters or sections, or I have strong visuals in my head for them. I tend to imagine her writing them as if thinking from the perspectives of the other characters, too.
Bad Thing Twice - if listening to "So Nice" is the "oh this is her and Ed's song" breakthrough moment in my writing process, this is the "HEY IT'S A WFU SONG" that cemented this album as going with this story. It works so well it's a little spooky tbh. Sometimes I think of it as Ed to Stede or vice versa, but it's also tasty to think of it with her and Mary too.
Talking to Yourself - late in the draft process I solidified that this is the first of the songs that she writes over the course of the story, the couplet that comes to her while taking a break from recording. I tend to think of it also as Ed to Stede, and something of the vibes that she's absorbed from that first chapter with Ed and then from talking to Mary and briefly encountering Stede.
Joshua Tree - speaking of Mary, this is THE song for her and Mary, which is partially the painting references, partially the California driving vibes, partially the lines "California dreaming's never what it seems/But here it comes, I know what I must do now".
Go Find Yourself or Whatever - so I have this scene in my head that I will probably never write, of the foursome sometime after the story going out to karaoke, and ofc some of her songs are there, and Ed and Mary sing this as a duet while staring directly at Stede, who is attempting to disappear under a table.
Keep Away - conversely, this is very much Stede's song, all the way through, and I'm always [bites fist] about "I'm keeping company [...] with all the friends I got from you" in the context of Roach being part of the comedy show scene.
Far Away - not a strong association, but it makes me think of her realizing that she hasn't really known Ed, and in some ways wanting to start over. So a little bit chapter 1, even, and a little bit chapter 10, I think.
Anxious - I think I rotated this through lots of different feelings, and eventually settled on the whole chapter 13 situation, and Ed and Mary, and it's something about the energy of it and also "ooh, boy, you've got a reputation"
Special category: The Loneliest Time
There's two aspects to this: in the story, she's writing it in chapter 11 specifically, so between Berlin and Los Angeles, and it's a duet, and I got to bring in some ambiguous famous male singer (theories and headcanons welcome) that is a bit of a foil and context for her in that and in the following chapters in the recording studio.
But also, at some point very early on, it struck me that if I did this thing successfully -- that is to say, if I fixed it in a way that I personally would recognize as fixed, it would feel like the way The Loneliest Time sounds.
By which I mean: something about the interweaving of the vocals and the depth of the sound and the chord progressions (I think? it has been 1000 years since I did anything with music) and the lyrics and the whole vibe of it. Something about it feels like a resolution, even if it's not perfect or final, it's settled into a new place, one that's hopeful, and that's what I wanted to get to.
(For a while, I thought that if I was able to land it, I would title the fic "The Loneliest Time", but it didn't quite fit - when I made the series for it and A secret third thing and the missing scenes fic I'm working/posting/block on, I decided it works for the set as a whole.)
As a final thought, one of the things I appreciate about this album in relationship to this story is that the songs don't appear to be in a story order. There's no particular story arc or narrative or even necessarily direct relationship between any of the songs. And that worked with the idea that comes up in the final chapter: "It’s not one to one. The story you’re telling isn’t always your story exactly as it is." And before that, when she thinks about putting the music out into the world and it become part of other people's stories.
There's something about that, and about how this story relates to a lot of personal things in a similarly non-linear way, that makes this album feel even more connected to this story.

little wing / jake kiszka- day 1- sunday
Tumblr media
playlist!!! (will be updated w each chapter)
pairing- jake kiszka x musician!reader, oc x sammy, oc x oc
warnings- none for this chapter :)
wc- 2.2k
a/n- this is basically kind of a prologue :)) the real plot will start to happen during the weekdays. i strongly strongly recommend listening to each song that pops up in the fic especially because this whole thing is really centered around music dkjhfkdjhfk. i wanted to make a fic that was very close to me and my relationship with music and i hope you guys enjoy it as well.
also!!! this is heavily inspired by a fic called "new tune" (i can't find or remember the author). the events in the actual story are different but i took a lot of inspiration from that fic :)
ANYWAYS enough of me fucking rambling heres the chapter!!!!
---
desert.
it was the only thing you could see for miles ahead of you, and it's the only thing you wanted to see for the next 7 days.
you scanned the landscape, studying the beautiful cactuses and bushes that littered the sandy ground. you walked over to a nearby cactus, carefully ripping one of the blooms off of it and sticking it behind your ear. you turned around to your bandmates, grinning stupidly at yourself.
“flower!” you exclaimed, pointing at the pink bloom in your hair. they all rolled their eyes playfully at your childlike giddiness, following one by one off of the tour bus.
selene was first, the incredible bassist. she was your rock, your ride or die, your “if you’ll do it, i’ll do it.”
you had dated once in high school before you decided that if you were going to start a band, it might not be the best idea to be in a long term relationship. the music industry didn’t need another fleetwood mac situation. the bond never lessened though, so you two are as close as you can be without actually being in a relationship.
then ollie and ezra, which you say as a unit because they basically are.
the band's keyboardist and drummer respectively, ollie and ezra have been in a relationship for 5 years going strong and they’re the glue that essentially keeps the band together. everybody always looks at them and swoons, and you can't blame them.
they were the epitome of what a healthy relationship is and oftentimes you found yourself slightly jealous of what the two had. nevertheless, they were basically the fathers of the group, making sure you and seline don’t get into anything stupid while still making sure a good time is had. your heart held so much love for them.
and then you, lead guitar and vocals. you can’t really say anything interesting about yourself like the other band members, except, you love music. all music.
you love jimi hendrix and janis joplin, the beatles and queen, abba, pink floyd, and zeppelin.
you love nirvana and alice in chains, foo fighters (which you were optimally excited to see at the festival this week), red hot chili peppers and everything in between.
you love folk, van morrison and john denver, jeff buckley, and simon and garfunkel.
you love music. that’s the only reason why you're here. it is your sole purpose for living. it’s the foundation for everything in your life, so obviously, you started a band.
it always seemed like the only option. ever since you were 10, you knew it was what you were going to do and you didn’t even think about pursuing another profession. this is what you were made to do, and so here you are, in the middle of the utah desert, doing it.
the band stretched out all their limbs, and immediately seline set up her bluetooth speaker to get some vibes going.
you almost floated away into the sky when you heard the opening chords to ‘mary jane’s last dance.’ it was just one of those times where the perfect song for the perfect moment shows up. it perfectly embodied the feelings that were running through you.
you immediately took selene’s hand and closed your eyes, starting to sway along to tom petty’s raspy voice. she took your hands too, equally as content with the moment.
ollie and ezra smiled fondly at you two, holding each other’s hand and watching in complete and utter happiness. it was all around you.
as you swayed along and danced with seline, you thought,
if it’s going to be like this for the rest of the week, i never want to leave.
-
a few hours later, the sun had started to dim under the horizon.
everyone had gotten settled and you had set up a big woven blanket on the sandy ground between your bus and some other band’s.
you perched cross legged on the blanket, your right arm draped over your acoustic.
this was one of your favorite things to do with the band. you would all sit around in a circle and sing along to your guitar, someone throwing out a request after each song ended until everyone eventually got too tired to speak and you would dwindle down to a random picking pattern. you felt like a big group of hippies, but you couldn’t ask for anything better.
“alright folks,” you said, “give me one to start us off.”
“i wanna hear going to california.” ollie immediately blurted, adding, “i wanna hear just you sing it.” you rolled your eyes at his last request but obliged anyway, starting to pick the opening guitar pattern in a slightly higher key to suit your voice.
spend my days with a woman unkind
smoked my stuff and drank
all my wine
everyone started swaying along to your voice, seline smiling fondly at you while ollie and ezra rested their heads against each other's shoulders.
love you thought. this is what love feels like.
made up my mind
to make a new start
going to california
with an aching
in my heart
you thought back to the time you ran away from home with seline to go to california, the both of you so passionate about your dreams that you couldn’t be rooted to that town anymore.
you basically played this song on repeat then. it was there for you. whenever you got rejected by labels, or struggled to find gigs or just people that would listen. it was there. and it was there when you finally met the boys, just what you needed.
someone told me there’s a girl out there
with love in her eyes
and flowers
in her hair
you smiled contentedly as you entered the interlude, moving your fingers and plucking the strings as if it were second nature. the only thing that was running through your head was how grateful you were to be here. as the interlude came to an end you started to sing the next verse,
took my chances on a big jet plane
never let ‘em tell ya that they’re all the same
except you weren’t the only one singing.
usually this wouldn’t be too uncommon, but you’d never heard this voice before.
it was low and dark and smooth, harmonizing with you as your voice raised with the verse.
you whipped around and faltered on your guitar for half a second before regaining your rhythm, and staring surprisingly up at the man in front of you.
he had long brown hair, coming down to just past his shoulders. he wore a button up shirt with only the bottom two buttons actually fastened, with an old-looking silver necklace hanging down his tan chest. he had light wash ripped jeans, and a pair of chelsea boots pressing into the sand.
he gingerly took a seat across from you next to selene, giving you an encouraging look as if to say, keep going.
oh, the sea was red and the sky was gray
i wonder how tomorrow
could ever follow today
your voices blended together like no other person you’d ever sung with, almost like mixing together in a big melting pot of harmonies.
his low and raspy tone somehow going together perfectly with your rich and full vocals. it was corny as hell, but, it was almost like a match made in heaven.
the mountains and the canyons start to tremble and shake
children of the sun begin
to wake
as the key darkened to a minor chord, he let you have the next verse to yourself, a verse you always loved belting out.
seems like the wrath of the gods got a punch on the nose and it’s starting to flow,
i think i might be sinking
throw me a line if i reach it in time
i’ll meet you up there,
where the path runs straight and high
you smiled as you returned back to the light acoustic pattern like before, looking at the man to let him know it was his turn, and he obliged. the lyrics hit you in the chest as he sang with such earnestness and passion.
to find a queen without a king
they say she plays guitar and cries and sings
he sang this with a cheeky smile, looking directly at you.
ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
tryin’ to find a woman who’s never, never, never been born.
you led into another short interlude, then you slowed down significantly and got a little quieter as you both sang the last verse.
standin’ on a hill in the mountain of dreams
tellin’ myself it’s not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.
you slowed down your picking and played the rhythm one last time as you looked at him.
he seemed mesmerized by how you played, his eyes almost glazed over in a fascination you couldn’t quite place.
you ended with one last strum of the strings, everyone taking in the last of the chords ringing in the warm air.
you broke the silence by chuckling shyly, “that was really good.” you complimented the stranger. “good? you were amazing!” he exclaimed, and you took mental note of how his speaking voice sounded almost even better than his singing voice. you blushed and laughed, not very good at taking compliments. “thanks” you said with a shy smile.
“anyways, do you have a name? i don’t think i’ve ever sang with a stranger before” you added.
he scooted a bit closer to you and held his hand out. “jake.” he said, “jake kiszka.” you smiled at him, before taking his hand, gently shaking it. “y/n” you said, letting go of his hand gently and setting your guitar to the side.
“what band are you in?” ezra inquired, squinting his eyes like he’d seen him before.
“oh, i'm the guitarist for greta van fleet,” he said proudly. now it made sense why he was fascinated with your playing, a fellow guitar player.
ezra gasped in realization, “that's it! that's where i know you from! i’ve listened to some of your songs man, your brother has a gnarly voice.” ezra said, jake nodding in appreciation. “thanks dude. we love doing festivals like this, very therapeutic for all of us” he explained “us too,” selene said with a smile.
you could tell she was getting a good vibe from him, which was pretty good considering seline only truly likes about a handful of people.
“uh, what band are you guys?” jake said curiously. “velvet eyes,” the four of you said in unison, snorting a laugh when you realized. you were all so used to saying it together that it just happened naturally now.
jake’s eyes lit up in recognition. “oh yeah! you're the guys who have that badass stage presence. we really like the way you guys do things up there. i don’t know why i didn’t recognize you!” jake said excitedly. it warmed your heart to know that another band admired what you guys were doing.
“awe, thank you,” you said. “the stage is where we were all meant to be. we really just let loose out there.” you explained with a passionate smile. “i think it’s extraordinary.” jake said, his eyes locking onto yours with a softness you had never been shown before. it almost overwhelmed you, so you looked away.
“oh!” ollie exclaimed suddenly, “since you're a guitarist, maybe you can settle this debate for us.” he said, you immediately let out a groan because you knew exactly what he was talking about: the never-ending stevie ray vaughn vs. jimmy page debate. you were firmly on the jimmy side, having been mesmerized by him since you were little. ollie however, was a stevie ray vaughn fanatic and he would not let it go.
“i may be a little biased but i’m definitely gonna have to go with jimmy.” jake said.
“YES!!” you almost jumped up in the air, finally having someone to take your side.
jake laughed at your excitement while ollie tried desperately to prove his point to the 4 of us.
the next three hours were filled with drinking and talking and music debates, everyone introducing themselves and telling each other things about them that no one else knew. it was a little bubble of trust and safety, safe from the chaos of the world.
throughout the night, you felt yourself drift closer to jake until eventually you gave in to the buzz of the alcohol and rested your head between his crossed legs. no one even questioned it or stopped to address it.
it was like this was how it was meant to be, with everyone gathered around, your head in jake’s lap while his fingers braided your hair and drew patterns on your head. it felt like this is how it always had been.
you found it so hard to think about how you had only met this man a few hours ago.
no. you thought. i’ve known him my whole life.
-
eventually everyone decided it was time to turn in for the night, jake stating he had to get back to his bus. everyone went inside one by one except for you and jake.
you exchanged phone numbers and instagrams, smiling giddily and looking into each other’s eyes a little longer than necessary.
eventually, he finally turned on his heel with a quiet “goodnight” and walked away, as you watched the back of his shirt fade into the night.
you laid in your bunk that night, restless. the only thing that kept running through your mind was a single name.
jake.

1998
This should be an interesting one. Since 1999 was the first year without the orchestra and the language rule, 1998 is going to look and sound VERY different from the contests I'm used to.
Croatia Classic costume change and classic Balkan ballad. Danijela has very good control over her voice, but the staging (specifically her hand movements, but also that one long shot) was sort of awkward. She looked and felt out of place on that stage, especially in the black outfit. Melody also seemed... not simple, but overly familiar? To me it felt like it was composed out of bits of other songs that I know and can't remember and that put me off a little bit. But not in a formulaic way. I dunno.
Greece Forgettable but not unenjoyable rock song. I don't like her voice nearly as much though.
France Loving the chill vibes here and Marie is fun to watch. I really liked the verses in this. Good stage presentation - although, I don't know if she was sick or just has a naturally raspy voice but something seemed slightly off about her singing.
Spain This man is like... if a classic rom-com protagonist with a boombox was sopping wet pathetic and also John Green. Not a bad song. I like the sentiment I suppose. There's this extremely 1990s thing going on with the synths that I'm not crazy about.
Switzerland Twee ending is twee but otherwise I really like this song. I fuck with the violin and Gunvor sounds good and she looks good in that dress (in the long shots. In the closer shots I keep getting distracted because it looks like she just wore a bra onstage). However. Those backup dancers needed to chill. Specifically there's this shoulder shrug thing they do right at the beginning that just does not fit the vibes and it BOTHERED me.
Slovakia Good to know that the terrible VFX overlays have been around for 25+ years. Thanks Slovakia, hated that. It's a beautiful language and the song was pretty enough, if not all that engaging, so it's a shame that parts of it were too low for Kristina. She had to whisper the first two notes of this one repeating phrase which sounded just a little creepy.
Poland This had a really strong opening and honestly I do like this song a lot but the lead singer just isn't bringing it vocally. She's not bad. I just don't think that head voice as a register really works here. It makes the song seem low-energy and her tone quality seem just the littlest bit shrill.
Israel I think this win was deserved. I don't really like the nasally tq that Dana has, but she's a good performer. Like a lot of other high ranking songs from this era, I don't think I've ever heard this song in full before, but the verses hold up to the chorus and everything feels consistent with the greater idea of the song. Good use of the background lights. And, also, shoutouts to the backing singers. They sounded good and the sound mixing for them was done really well... which, in Eurovision, is not always easy...
Germany "German Austin Powers runs into the audience, caresses several men, climbs onto the side stage" is something that I should hate, but I kind of love it. Like fuck this guy but also fuck, this guy! The whole thing with the cowbells was also very funny. Love a good Stefan Raab song.
Malta Chiara is such a good singer. Like she just sounds good and satisfying everywhere in the song no matter the volume, emotion, or register. WHICH IS WHY IT'S A DAMN SHAME THAT THIS SONG BORES ME TO TEARS. If you have a good singer (and good staging), give her a good song and maybe an actually attractive dress, cmon Malta I know you can do it she looked so good in 2005.
Hungary It just doesn't do it for me. IDK.
Slovenia This one too. It really didn't capture my attention. Although better than Hungary, I think.
Ireland Not bad. Clearly following on from Katrina and the Waves. I wasn't expecting her to have such a deep voice, but she sounds pretty good! Lol at the completely abandoned keyboard just sitting on the stage though.
Portugal I love the instrumentation here. The song is cute but the vocals and the way it draws back during the sung portions is less fun than the bits where it's just the bagpipes and the guitar.
Romania Malina doesn't come into herself here until that high note. It's an OK song but she's too quiet for it and the staging is too simple.
UK This is fun, I'm into it. Not my favorite by any means and not particularly a standout but it's good.
Cyprus I really enjoy how anthemic that chorus is. The backup singers were also used really well, in a way that made them sound like a full choir rather than five people.
Netherlands Queen Edsilia! Sounds good looks good feels good. No notes.
Sweden I'm not sold on it. She sounds ok I guess, but isn't she a country singer? I feel like maybe I would have been more into it if they'd sent her in a genre she did more? Iunno.
Belgium She's so cute and the whole package just comes together. Not usually my sort of song, but after the run of mostly boring songs I'm so refreshed by how much I enjoy this.
Finland I will be honest, I don't fully know what's going on here and I don't know how I feel about it.
Norway Cute. I like the vibes on this guy, how the camerawork incorporates the live orchestra, and the color scheme.
Estonia For some reason was not expecting this to be a piano ballad, but it's good.
Turkey Looks nice sounds nice. At this point my attention has started to wane quite a bit so unless it's super good or super bad I don't have much to say.
FYROM Wasn't expecting to like it, I don't hate it! Not the worst debut they could have had.
My top 25 1)France 2)Netherlands 3)Belgium 4)Germany 5)Switzerland 6)Ireland 7)Spain 8)Norway 9)Israel 10)Cyprus 11)Portugal 12)Estonia 13)Poland 14)Malta 15)Croatia 16)FYROM 17)Turkey 18)UK 19)Sweden 20)Slovakia 21)Slovenia 22)Romania 23)Greece 24)Hungary 25)Finland
Miscellaneous Thoughts that first interval act is such a colonial project. i think all the people angsting about how uk-heavy this year's hosting was should go back and watch eurovision 1998. "ok, we're going to explain the tiebreak rules" *proceeds to have the most competitive voting sequence of any eurovision i've ever watched*. i don't think they have explained the tiebreak rules on air since then, maybe not even when voting systems changed and the tiebreak rules also changed. it's giving the abba video they showed right before sweden swept the juries in 2023. a bit confused by the 2 separate voting graphics used, where one is a map and the other is the scoreboard with the winning country's flag waving. similar designs were also used in '99 and i was curious about it then too. my suspicion is that the map graphic is displayed while they reorganize the scoreboard to show standing order instead of running order but i'm not 1000% certain about that. good to know that greece and cyprus really have been exchanging douze since the dawn of time, especially considering that the crowd anticipated both of those douzes lmao nah, but like. this was such a strong year and it was so quintessentially chaotic and eurovision. the predictable douzes, the close voting, no one being able to find dana for like five minutes after the announcement. terry wogan was actually integrated into the hosting well, which graham norton was... not. i love it. this is one i'd love to watch again or recommend to people who haven't seen older contests before.

My Commentary for Taylor Swift (Debut) - Including Bonus Tracks
1. Tim McGraw- the first Taylor song I ever heard. “Someday you’ll turn your radio on” gives me such big feelings because of her success and how far she’s come.
2. Picture to Burn- this song makes me so feral. After listening to this I will not just burn your pictures but your entire house and car.
3. Teardrops on My Guitar- As the girl who never got asked out until I was a sophomore in high school this was my sad girl anthem.
4. A Place In This World- The fact that she not only found her place in the music industry but dominates it. Such a strong nostalgia pull with this one.
5. Cold As You- I will never get over the emotional maturity of this song given the fact that she wrote it before she was even legally able to drive.
6. The Outside- I think this definitely has the same energy as A Place In This World. The Outside is the emotional side of her experience and APITW is “this is how I plan to overcome it”
7. Tied Together With a Smile- I can’t help but see this as a song from her to her mom and it makes me sob because I see my own mother in this as well.
8. Stay Beautiful- This one is just so wholesome and precious. The classic having feelings for your friend vibe.
9. Should’ve Said No- Okay going to reveal highly embarrassing info with this one. I didn’t have a boyfriend until highschool but may or may not have fantasized being cheated on so I could fully FEEL this song from ages 8-15 don’t come at me.
10. Mary’s Song (Oh My My My)- My favorite song on Debut. This one is so ridiculously under-rated.
11. Our Song- My least favorite from the album and since 2006 it has highly irritated me that she says “when we’re on the phone and you talk real slow” as if talking slow will make his momma not know.
12. I’m Only Me When I’m With You- I used to love this song and it was one of my favorites on the album but over time I’ve grown to feel more “meh” about it.
13. Invisible- My favorite bonus track from the album. Someone pointed out the similar melody from this and Cornelia Street and that makes me love this song even more.
14. A Perfectly Good Heart- This one is okay but I think it had so much more potential. There’s only one actual verse and then the chorus repeated 4x. I think with another verse and less repetition this would’ve been better.

࣪𑁍˖՚༹⌒ Domestic chores with Nct 127 ⌒ ༹՚˖𑁍 ࣪
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ᨳ☆‧˚Taeil
Taeil always feels kinda discouraged to start doing the chores, and he drags you along on procrastinating with him
"Come here, Y/N, stay with me a little bit more! Let's cuddle five more minutes, okay?". You agree, ofc, and you stay on the bed for a little too long, talking about the zillion things you have to do, but not having the guts to leave each other's arms.
When you start cleaning the house though, he really gets into it. No dirty spots and no dusty surfaces escape his strong hands.
He plays the most random songs, from classic music to heavy EDM, and you vibe together while doing the chores, bouncing with your brooms in hands and spinning your stained cloths in the air.
In the kitchen, he always gladly cooks for you. But after a long tiring day doing domestic chores, you both agree on ordering some food, spending the night just chilling, watching a movie in the middle of which Taeil probably will fall asleep.
ᨳ☆‧˚Johnny
Johnny is the one who organizes the chores at home. He assigns what each one needs to do, and there you go, his high energy overflowing from his body, encouraging you and providing you the ignition you needed.
"I clean up here, you clean down there" - he says with a suspicious smirk. You don't know if he is making fun of you or if he is being considerate.
He needs his coffee pauses, and he makes you take a break too. You talk about the most random daily things, which always leads to precious bonding moments, the kitchen getting filled with laidback laughs.
Then you continue your activities, in your own pace, jamming to some soft background music.
Johnny likes to offer you rewards. "If we finish this today, I'll buy us some nice ice cream, and then I'll take you to the movies. Deal?"
ᨳ☆‧˚Taeyong
Taeyong has the most endearing way of convincing you that it's time to do some domestic chores. "Y/N, come hereeee! It's time for a couple activity!! I even got us matching rubber gloves, look!"
He doesn't let you do heavy tough stuff though. But when you see him struggling by himself and run to help him, he gives you the most precious smile, full of admiration and gratitude. A cute "Thank yoou!" (yes, in his cute english <3) leaves his mouth.
But there's one thing about doing chores with him that is a bit trick: he loves to rearrange the furniture and decoration. It's always extra tiring, but you have to give him the credit for your house being so cool and stylish.
Taking care of your pets is something that consumes a lot of time, but Taeyong does everything with happiness and sparkly eyes.
He makes sure you have some breaks, to keep hydrated and to eat something. He will prepare you some sandwiches, while you start to plan a little trip to the grocery shop.
ᨳ☆‧˚Yuta
Yuta and you have this synchronicity and telepathy. You think "I guess it's time to sweep the front yard". You get your broom and everything, and when you step out the house, Yuta is already there, cleaning everything.
"Oh, you had the same idea! Well, you can...", he says. "Oh, I guess I will...", you start. "....do the laundry.", you two say at the same time, smiling at each other.
He tries to do things in "Marie Kondo style". He takes a long time folding your clothes, but it's worth the effort. Your wardrobe is a beautiful piece of art.
If he thinks something is dangerous for you, he definetely won't let you do it. Changing the lamp? No no no! It's not that he thinks you're not capable of doing things, he knows you can do anything. He just can't live with the possibility of you getting hurt.
After a day of hard work, you take a warm bath together, and stay in bed for the rest of the night.
ᨳ☆‧˚Doyoung
Like Johnny, Doyoung assigns the chores. He knows the things each one of you is good at.
But he is the type of person that sees you doing something, and automatically says "Wait baby, let me do it for you", or starts helping you, out of habit.
For example: you're doing the dishes, you wash part of the things in the sink, and then you start to rinse them. Doyoung takes the opportunity to sneakily snatch the dish sponge and, it's too late, he won't give it back to you. "Don't get used to it though", he says with a little grin. You grin back, because you lost count of how many times you've heard this same sentence.
You have a lot of plants at home, and Doyoung treats them like real babies. He even bought one for you, a baby tree of your favorite fruit.
Cooking is his thing, so he makes sure you have a nice, delicious and nutricious meal everyday.
ᨳ☆‧˚Jaehyun
Jaehyun will gladly do anything you ask him to do with the best of intentions, and he does his best to help.
He looks at the weather forecast to see when it's a good day to do the laundry, he sorts the garbage for recycling, he researches the supermarkets with the best prices, and does other little things that seem unimportant, but that are truly essential.
He likes vaccuing very dirty places. The satisfaction he gets from seeing the clean path that the vaccum leaves among the dirty is priceless.
But he is clumsy, so you know you can't let him get near the fragile stuff. So the kitchen is a little bit dangerous for him
If he can't help you with something, he makes sure to support you, like a real cheerleader. "Oh yessss honey! You're doing great, wow! That's my baby!!", he says, already massaging your shoulders.
ᨳ☆‧˚Winwin
Winwin sees you getting ready to start cleaning, and he asks you what he can do to help, while wearing your spare cute apron, which makes you smile like a fool.
He follows you and do what you do, ocasionally asking you if the things he is doing are good enough.
He is extra careful when hanging the clothes out on the clothesline, making sure to spread them well to avoid any wrinkles. He knows none of you like ironing, and also you burned yourself once, and he doesn't want this to happen ever again.
He spends a considerable amount of time making your bed, changing the bed linen, tyding up the sheets and smoothing the pillows, so you can feel good in a clean space and relax with him after working hard all day long.
ᨳ☆‧˚Jungwoo
Jungwoo is very good at domestic chores. He is a tidy and organized person, so things go smoothly in your house
He has the ability of turning every boring task into a pleasant and funny experience. Out of sudden you're having a broomstick battle. Out of sudden you're blowing soap bubbles. Out of sudden you're with white flour blots all over your face, after a spontaneous flour smudge battle.
For your surprise, he is excelent on fixing things. His creativity helps him a lot, along with a couple of YouTube videos and a degree on engineering.
Times just flies by his side, and you get surprised when you see the sun going down by your window, as he streches his back and says "we're finally done!", pulling you for a little celebration dance.
Jungwoo doesn't want to cook after doing domestic chores all day long. He orders an amount of food that could feed well ten people, and you eat a lot while watching some nice series.
ᨳ☆‧˚Mark
Mark always tries his best at everything. He knows he is a little bit clumsy, so he does things carefully. Thank God he has spider senses.
A chore that is supposed to be finished in ten minutes takes thirty to be completed, but it's completely fine, because you know it will be perfectly done.
He used to get confused with all the types of cleaning products, but he eventually learned about them all and now he knows anything's purpose just by smeling it. "Mmmm very soft floral smell, must be clothes soap/ Very strong and citric, I guess this is disinfectant" (pls people, don't be like this, it's dangerous for everyone!!!)
At the end of the day, he is so satisfied looking at your team work. You can see it on his little proud smile, while he runs an arm over your shoulders and distractedly kisses your cheek.
ᨳ☆‧˚Haechan
Haechan whines for two minutes before starting doing chores, but he is a man of action after all. "The sooner we start it, the sooner we'll finish it", he says to himself.
You play rock paper scissors to decide who will be the one that will do the unpleasant chores, like cleaning the bathroom and taking the garbage out.
But hearing your heavy sigh after losing for him makes him go "ahh ok, I'll do it, don't worry, but it will cost you twenty kisses!"
He doesn't stop singing while doing the chores. He is like a walking karaoke machine,he knows every song you ask him to sing.
When he cooks for you, you often catch him talking to his mom on the phone, asking her about that dish you liked so much the last time you visited her.

this got Real Long Real Quick...
I wanna know more about Luka's soul song gift - like how much do emotions or personality play into it? ((I’m going with a lot)) Does it only work in person?? Or can he get like snippets from videos or vibes from pictures? Like it would make sense if it was only in person...... But where's the fun I'm that? Realistically it wouldn't be as strong as in person but I could see him getting some stuff. Pictures it probably wouldn't be a lot, or even much of anything, unless the soul song really didn't match the picture...
Which means Luka is one of the first people to realize something is Up with Adrien (and the Agrestes in general)
The ads around the city never felt right, never matched up with the snippets/vibes he was able to get - unless Adrien was supposed to be sad or melancholy. Which is... yikes...
Then the Adrien The Fragrance commercial happens. And that's an additional big Fucking Yikes
Like I can only imagine that Adrien isn't particularly big on modelling in general from what we've seen (with the Marinette-exception) so the filming of that could have only been Worse than normal. How many times did it take to get the emotions at the ‘right’ level? How long did it take to get the angles and all the action done?
Anyway: after the first time Luka literally cannot stomach watching it or even listening to it because it is so Wrong. The soul song snippets from the video are longer and more intense and it is just so discordant that Luka can't deal
Adrien is most certainly NOT feeling carefree. Or radiant. Or remotely dreamy. He's goddamn exhausted, frustrated, resigned, depressed, sweaty, anxious, awkward, stressed. It is a whole stew of (teen) angst offset with that upbeat music and the bright blue sky & all that w h i t e and the jumping for joy
It is such a strong dichotomy Luka has a visceral reaction every time and has to either leave the room or mute it and look away,
All of that means that after he meets Adrien in person, and gets to hear his soul song in a couple different situations and can see his emotions matching internally and externally he basically tells him they will always have space for him on the Liberty. (Also the first time he saw the LB + CN movie and heard Adrien's voice acting he only picked up some nerves - easily attributed to a new situation rather than a secret identity - but he was clearly enjoying himself even if it was a terrible script)
Therefore, Luka doesn't have particularly good feelings towards Gabriel, even before seeing any videos of him.
Style Queen was a Time. He was happy for Adrien but the bits he was getting from Gabriel were so rigid and tight... And rather selfish to boot. Which was weird given the situation
He has to try very very hard to not sneer or snarl at the tablet he first "meets" him on - probably at a Kitty Section practice or concert or at some class + family event.
I can also v easily picture him meeting him in person and being super uncomfortable at the sheer amount of manipulation and self-aggrandizing, selfishness, etc that rolls off of Gabriel, basically choking out his soul song. Either Lula barely refrains from punching Gabriel and manages to shake his hand but then desperately needs to clean his hands. Orrrr he does punch him and then basically coats his hands in sanitizer (either way he is Nino’s absolute favorite person for this alone)
Also, this would not be the first time Luka has figured out an abusive situation. It has happened with both his own and Juleka's friends & classmates. He is v much a protective older brother at heart
And because I damn well can have some Lila salt, some of which has been touched on before, unlike with Gabriel:
He had heard about her from Juleka and Kitty Section and was a bit confused about it but it wasn't until Rose was over and the girls were telling him about some of Lila's stories that he saw a picture of her.
And that was The Strongest he had ever reacted to a picture before: instant chills up his spine and an actual hiss escaped him
All 3 of them are shocked. Luka then has to explain that reaction as best as he can. Which is hard when you aren't great at words and while the soul song fragments are rather clear he would never make his guitar suffer trying to recreate them.
He manages tho and Julerose are at least wary of her afterwards. They start observing her more and a lot of her behavior and the way she talks can be very off-putting. They start noticing some of the digs that she makes at others, that she contradicts herself 5 different ways, and how she is constantly bringing the attention back to herself.
During all this they start noticing how both Marinette and Adrien react to her and it is Not Good. Mari gets defensive and will often try to bring up those contradictions that they started noticing. But jealousy is only a minor factor, at most. In certain situations it is possible that it could be involved... except those only happen when Adrien is looking very uncomfortable and Marinette notices or they make eye contact and then Marinette creates an opportunity for him to escape
Which is something that no one else is noticing which is really terrible and unhealthy...
Around this time is when Ivan has started to figure out something is up. and then he definitely knows when Julerose show Luka a video at a private band practice.
Because video and in person interactions make the BadBadBAD feelings worse and Ivan, while he often struggles with understanding & expressing emotions, has definitely noticed Lila - even though she is not actually there - causes a lot of stress and anxiety to Luka and he has gotten really good at methods of lessening those.
So, Luka sees the video with/of Lila and has an even stronger reaction than the picture before. His eyes get huge, and his face pales (gets slightly sickly?), and he hisses even stronger than the first time
He refuses to try to play her soul song because something like that is nearly impossible to recreate but also doesn’t need to be put out into the world but does his best to try and describe it
Possible: her soul song feels like it is drowning in toxic sludge - there is just so much negativeness that it is barely intelligible. It is being smothered by self-satisfaction and importance, narcissism, aggressive manipulation, pettiness, vile maliciousness, etc
In person interactions are awful. Luka avoids physical interaction as much as possible. Even more than he would with Gabriel, and he wants as little to do with that man as possible, ideally none. But Lila is worse...
There have been multiple times that he has had to step out/away to be able to get some fresh air and breathe again. At least once where he has been or almost has been sick - usually following a hug that he did not consent to or something similar
Ivan is definitely in the fold now, and Julerose share what they have noticed from taking their step back. He realizes he has noticed a lot of those same things but he wasn’t analyzing them and didn’t have the same context for them at the time that Luka, Juleka, and Rose did. But afterwards he picks up on them more clearly, and some other things they hadn’t - benefits of being one of the quiet kids (and a lesser target of Lila’s focus). He is part of the driving force in bringing Marinette and Adrien in first before going to others.
Marinette breaks down because more people believe her?? and support her and Adrien? it is a huge relief of tension. And she didn’t even have to convince them herself!! what a concept... but it is definitely a safe space for her and she can share her own experiences and that certainly is nice
they had all suspected Something was Up but weren’t expecting that so there are lots of hugs and tears and support and mutters of payback
Adrien eventually cries because Kitty Section + Marinette give him a TedTalk about consent and personal autonomy. And now he has so many people (!!!) telling him he can say no and make his own choices, mistakes, and decisions. (Marinette’s part is largely “I told you so / do you believe us now?” because the Dupain-Chengs have probably already given this same talk as a family but that is just A family’s opinion, others probably think differently) And this is the first time he really truly believes it and... oooof there are a lot of emotions and interactions to unpack and reconsider
but now he knows he really needs to and that he can and should which is new, but so is having an actual support system...
Thus, Luka is ready to fight a bitch the first time he sees Lila and Adrien interacting. There is so much clinging and touching, and Adrien is panicking and no one is doing anything or is being waved off. And (unfortunately) this is one of the things that causes some people to start questioning things about Lila. Because most of them know of Luka as a really chill, laid-back guy who is open and accepting of people. and besides he has no reason to be jealous (((👀👀👀👀 too much to think about and unpack t h e r e))) so why would he be upset about Lila leaning on Adrien and holding his arm??
So, the questioning of Lila and what she says spreads out from Kitty Section and Adrinette to the rest of the class. They take a different approach. They slowly, carefully approach their classmates and take them aside when possible to talk about the situation
This allows them to be able to get their undivided attention and lay out what they have found out in a logical and cohesive manner, rather than attempting something rash or in the heat of the moment. Marinette grumbled about this method initially but when there were actual results and the burden was shared it was a huge relief for her.
In fact, others start coming to them about Lila.
because of the work of Kitty Section and Adrinette Lila’s audience has been steadily decreasing and it is getting easier to notice things. With a smaller audience the focus doesn’t get split as much and there are less questions for her to build off of or go on tangents from and the contradictions start standing out more, or she’s making more to try and keep them around her by holding their interest with different details
Plus, the comments about those outside Her Circle are getting meaner and more frequent. Usually they are still sneaky or underhanded but nowhere near as subtle as they were originally (were they ever, really?) and it is raising suspicions and hackles.
Eventually, Lila is left without an audience because the class has all been brought out of the cloud of manipulation and are working on trust and listening to each other more/better. and on how to not disregard other’s feelings (which is esp important with the high butterfly population in Paris, but is a v good life lesson in general). they are young and will make mistakes and will have to learn from them. but trials, growth, and change are all part of life so it is good for them.
But it essentially all stems from Luka and his ability to hear soul songs and reacting to those songs, or the lack thereof when they are being choked by evil intentions/emotions/actions/what have you

good sunday
Next on Car Seat Headrest’s debut album is Good Sunday. This track brings a lot more to the table lyrically as to the previous (that being Tybee Island horse ghost), and is in fact musically, one of my favorite songs on the album. 1 is in my unprofessional opinion, a very raw album. Will can even be quoted on the album's bandcamp saying that if he had known anyone would have listened to the album, he would have never released it. This leads to a lot of interesting commentary from the perspective of a young man who is starting to become an adult, and the trials and tribulations that follow this.
The song starts strong, opening with these lyrics.
“Am I going mad?
I feel like walking into traffic
Oh shit I think I am
I need to learn how to be online”
This appears to be a look into Will's descent into “madness”, which is likely some form of mental struggle. He says he feels like walking into traffic, which further solidifies the idea that he is struggling mentally with an urge to do something to put himself in danger. This doesn’t have to mean suicide, but perhaps an urge to harm himself or let go of control. He follows by “snapping out of it” and claiming to be going crazy by having these sorts of intrusive thoughts. He says he needs to learn how to be online, maybe the past lyrics could be a struggle in dealing with having a social media presence, which, though not at the scale it is today, Will likely had at the time of the album’s release.
“Jesus we love you
And we adore you
Spirit we love you
And we forgive you
Jesus we love you
And we adore you
Spirit we love you
And we destroy you”
Religion can have a million different themes in music. While Will did grow up in the Presbyterian church, he hasn’t spoken on his current personal religious beliefs, and I will not be speaking on behalf of him or speculating on the topic. I am only looking at this from the perspective of a 17 year old Will Toledo. Aside from this, Will did study religion academically. He minored in it along with a major in English at William and Mary. There isn’t much information or speculation online of a possible meaning to these lyrics. I don’t know a lot about religion personally, so my apologies if anything I state is incorrect. Of course it could have nothing to do with religion at all, only using Jesus as an example of one higher and holier than thyself. I do take interest in the change from “Spirit we love you and we forgive you” to “Spirit we love you and we destroy you.” This again can be taken as spirit in oneself, or a kind of Holy Spirit. It could also in some ways mock traditional hymns and songs traditionally sung in churches, which usually reflect the religions beliefs and have some kind of religious message. Or it’s some kind of warped way of getting to the top and then being destroyed by the people who brought you there . Loving Jesus but destroying the spirit, whether that be one that is holy or one’s personal spirit I’m unsure and urge you to decide for yourself, whatever means the most to you. That’s an important idea for all of these, I don’t want to come off and say that I’m right, these are just my interpretations as someone who enjoys Car Seat Headrest.
Now we move to another verse.
“Oh my god
No one wants to know what you’re saying ’til you’re speaking in code
(No one wants to know what you’re saying ’til you’re speaking in code) [reversed]
No one wants to know what you’re saying until you’re speaking in code”
I also really enjoy this lyric. Maybe it’s a way of saying nobody cares what you have to say until they don’t understand what you’re saying. When it becomes impossible to drown out the background noise we’re accustomed to, when it’s something we’ve never heard before, we take more time to stop and listen and perhaps try to understand. The use of a reversed lyric is also very interesting, maybe a way to grab the listeners attention and instantly prove his point, nobody cared to know what he was saying until it was said in a way that wasn’t understandable. This is something I think of as an interactive lyric, WIll isn’t just singing out what he thinks, he’s proving to you that he stands correct on the issue.
The chorus of Jesus and the spirit is repeated 3 more times, except for the very last line. Traditionally it is “And we destroy you” which is still said, but in this set destroy you is reversed. Likely to refer to the previous verse. It’s an interesting way to maintain the theme in an album that quite honestly bounces all over the place (and not in a bad way, it’s really good chaos).
The next part is what really grabbed my attention and is possibly the most memorable part of the song in my opinion. It’s a piece of spoken commentary and is read as follows.
“Eugene Debs was the... socialist presidential candidate in the uh, election between him, Taft, Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt
Nobody told me that my earbuds were exposed to the elements”
I really love this line and I honestly have no idea why. It’s just some ramblings of a young Toledo, and I have no clue what it means or how it relates. I don’t want to try and pull a meaning out of it, I think it should be preserved in its natural state. The only information I could find on it was a small note on the Genius music page (which has now been viewed by a mighty 11 people!), which was only the word socialist highlighted with a note of “based.” Thank you for the laugh whoever you are.
(And suddenly we’re driving across the ocean) [reversed]
The last line of the song is actually a sample from an earlier project of an even younger Toledo called Nervous Young Men. It’s taken from a song called AC, which details a bus ride he had taken.
Next is a little on the actual musical elements of the song. It’s fairly monotone and moody, but enjoyable. The entire album was produced on Will’s laptop, which provides some interesting sounds. I don’t know how to describe the way I hear it, it's like stretching a rubber band as far as it will go then slowly returning it to normal. There’s nothing snappy and sharp about it, but it has its own curves which give it a really cool vibe overall. I know nothing about music production, I just like the sounds, and this album has a lot of them. I like the grain that the spoken part has, it reminds me of audio from an old family video camera, enough so to where I can picture this very camera. There’s a lot of really sick recording techniques and such and I wish I knew more about what they all meant, but alas I’ll just listen to them and enjoy what I hear.
Thank you a lot for reading this, I hope you’re enjoying reading as much as I am enjoying writing.

Their intention is always to be by your side. The solid foundation of Aqours: Suwa Nanaka, Komiya Arisa, and Suzuki Aina (Translated Interview)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Translation: ramen Translation Check: xIceArcher Quality Check: arbshortcake, Mega-, Yujacha
In their new songs, Aqours is cooler and more mature than ever!
—Aqours, the school idol group from “Love Live! Sunshine!!”, is celebrating their 5th year since their activities began. Your 5th anniversary Dome Tour theme song “Fantastic Departure!” is releasing soon. How did you feel when you listened to it?
youtube
Suzuki: Like we’re setting off on a new adventure. It’s very Aqours-esque—like we’re reaching out to a more distant place.
Suwa: Right, it’s a song unlike anything we’ve had before, one with very strong undertones of a new beginning.
Komiya: We’ve had the privilege of performing at Tokyo Dome and MetLife Dome, but I feel like this song depicts us as we move a step beyond that.
Suzuki: I think people are wondering what will happen to Aqours from now on. This song conveys that Aqours is moving forward, that we aren’t disappearing.
—How did you feel when you were recording it?
Komiya: For this song, they said that it’d be good to sing in a more mature way than usual, right?
Suwa: Yeah. I remember them telling us to sound cool.
Suzuki: On the CD version, only Chika says the “attention please” line at the beginning, but actually, all of us had recorded it. They told us to say it in a mature way, so I got the impression that the song would have a mature vibe to it.
Suwa: I felt like Chika’s voice was really gentle on the CD version of “attention please”! It’s very Chika-like to be cool yet still be gentle.
—Any parts that you particularly like?
Suzuki: There’s a part where we each sing in turn, starting with Ruby, and the way it flows between us got me especially emotional. “Thank you, FRIENDS!!” starts with Chika, so everyone’s lines in the song flow together to connect to Chika. That gave me goosebumps.
Komiya: Until now, the 3rd years usually only got their own part once the song got to the second verse. But here, we sing our solos in the same parts across both the first and second verses. At the bridge (where the background music is quiet), each of us sings our own part, which I think is quite rare.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
—How do you feel about the B-side, “Aqours Pirates Desire”?
Komiya: The singing range is really low!
Suzuki: Right? It’s low for Aqours.
Suwa: It thrashes from low to high, so I was wondering whether my own vocals would be in the low parts or the high parts. It turns out mine were in the high parts, so I was like “Ohh, I see!”.
Suzuki: The bridge part is quite low!
Komiya: Oh, and the lyrics in my part have “red” in them, so that’s probably why I got those lines. (laughs)
Suzuki: I really like the “one, two, one two three four” part at the beginning, as well as the parts that are a little “impish”. Maybe I should say we act a bit like pranksters.
Komiya: True, it’s the cool side of Aqours.
Suwa: Yup, very cool.
Suzuki: The instruments used in the song also give it a pirate-like feel, in a good way.
Komiya: I want to dance and wave a flag around to it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Dome Tour, made possible by everyone’s support.
—Details have yet to be released, but right now, what do you want to try during the Dome Tour?
Suwa: First of all, I want it to happen…
Suzuki: Exactly! The Dome Tour is something that absolutely wouldn’t be possible without everyone who’s been supporting us.
Komiya: You could say that before we knew it, we became something incredible.
Suwa: We’ve really been raised well. (laughs)
Suzuki: I think this tour is only happening because everyone has been looking forward to it, so when the day comes that we can hold it, I want to give a performance that’ll live up to those expectations.
—Aqours already has experience performing at Tokyo Dome, so what do you pay attention to when you’re on stage at large venues?
Komiya: Our 1st Live (Aqours First LoveLive! ~Step! ZERO to ONE~ in 2017) was at Yokohama Arena. Since then, our choreographers kept stressing that “because there are also fans in the stands, you should be conscious of not only the arena sections in front of you, but also those up in the stands”. Because of that, we haven’t had to wonder about what to do if the venue is really big.
Suwa: During our 4th Live (Aqours 4th LoveLive! ~Sailing to the Sunshine~ in 2018), we were hard to see when we were riding the Aqours Ship, so the staff told us to make big movements.
Suzuki: But when we looked at our rehearsal footage, our movements often looked small even when we were trying to make big movements!
Suwa: The studio is completely different from the actual venues.
Komiya: Yup. And sometimes we have no choice but to use a small studio for our rehearsals.
Suwa: Right, right. The member that’s supposed to be the furthest from you sometimes ends up right next to you because you have to loop around [since there’s so little space]. Also, the actual venue has a two-level stage, but we might have to rehearse at a studio that’s just one flat level.
Komiya: But because we had that experience with such hardships, for times like Fest where we couldn’t spare much time for rehearsals, we were able to say “Just tell us where to position ourselves, and we’ll be good!”.
Tumblr media
During the photo session after the concert, a display of initiative despite their shyness!
—At Love Live! Fest in January, you crossed the borders of the series to share a stage with µ’s and the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club. Did anything in particular strike you from Fest?
Suzuki: It’d have to be µ’s performing “Snow halation”—that was unforgettable. After “Snow halation” (on the second day), we were going to go out on the Aqours Ship. So while we were on standby backstage, we could hear µ’s singing. I ended up crying as we gathered in a circle, feeling like “we’re living in a dream”.
Suwa: Everyone was tearing up at that point.
Komiya: Yup. It was a really mysterious feeling.
Suwa: That moment was something we would have never imagined several years ago, so even we couldn’t picture it.
Suzuki: The fact that we would be performing with everyone from the Love Live! series at Fest… it didn't feel real.
Komiya: When I first heard about Fest, I almost couldn’t believe it! (laughs)
—What are your memories of Aqours’ songs at Love Live! Fest?
Komiya: Even though it had been a long time since we did a concert, we didn’t spend much time rehearsing.
Suwa: Not to mention that we did a lot of songs.
Suzuki: Not to mention that we did unit songs too. (laughs)
Komiya: Also, the stage manager had messages for us before and after our performance, like “do your best”.
Suzuki: Right, right. Things like “You’re the best!” or “That fired me up!”.
Suwa: I understand saying that to us afterwards, but it was inconvenient saying that before the performance because we’d tear up. (laughs)
Komiya: Besides that… they made a ditch in the stage so that the Aqours Ship could move. So we couldn’t be in our normal positions. But even so, we were able to adapt to it right away, which was amazing.
Suzuki: Yes. If this was a long time ago, we wouldn’t have been able to.
Komiya: I was kind of scared of myself because of how much better I could adapt. (laughs)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
—How were the performances from the members of the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club?
Suzuki: They really had nerves of steel—just incredible.
Suwa: Because they were all doing their solo songs.
Suzuki: If that were me, I’d be so nervous, like “I can’t do this!”.
Suwa: Maybe the Nijigasaki girls were thinking that too!
Komiya: We started out as a 9-member group, so that’s what we’ve gotten used to, after all.
Suzuki: When we were performing solo at our 3rd Live (Aqours 3rd LoveLive! ~WONDERFUL STORIES~ in 2018), I felt fidgety. (laughs)
Komiya: At that time, I was concentrating so hard that I don’t remember whether the penlights the audience was waving were red or white…
Suwa: The colors were mixed!
—Did you mingle with members from the other units?
Komiya: Our dressing rooms were on the same floor as the Nijigasaki girls, so we ended up meeting in the bathroom. Aside from that, we only occasionally crossed paths after our rehearsals finished.
Suzuki: After the concert, there was time to take photos with each other!
Suwa: But Aqours has a lot of shy girls, so we were kind of paralyzed. (laughs)
Suzuki: I was just paralyzed in awe. But then Kusuda Aina from µ’s was kind enough to come up to me, saying that “we’re both Aina!” and “our colors are both purple!”. It was so hard to believe—I was screaming really loudly on the inside. (laughs)
Suwa: Arisa was the exception, though—she wasn’t shy at all.
Komiya: Yup. I went around getting photos as I pleased. With the Nijigasaki girls, it was like an entire photo session, and from µ’s, I got pictures with Pile, Nanjo Yoshino, and Emitsun (Nitta Emi).
Suwa: I took photos with Mimori Suzuko and Uchida Aya.
Komiya: Everyone was shy, but we took the initiative—”I’m not letting this chance slip away!” (laughs)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Five years of closing the gap between their own personalities and that of an idol
—As we look back on Aqours’ activities, would you mind telling us how you feel about these past five years?
Suzuki: I had never danced before, so I was worried about whether I’d be okay, and whether I’d be able to keep up. There was the challenging leapfrog (in “Kimi no Kokoro wa Kagayaiteru kai?”) and most of all: the fact that while Mari is tall, I’m the complete opposite.
I thought a lot about how to make my movements on stage appear bigger and how to bring out the sexy aura that Mari has. I worried a lot about those differences.
—How did you overcome those?
Suzuki: Once the anime started, it was a lot easier to see Mari’s expressions. That enabled me to spontaneously picture what Mari would do. It felt more and more like she stood by my side.
It doesn't really feel to me like the gap's been bridged yet, but I've slowly become more confident in our closeness thanks to the fans who'd say “Mari was on stage!".
—Suwa-san, how about you?
Suwa: I really started from rock bottom: no experience in singing or dancing, much less dancing within a formation. It wasn’t that I was missing something—it’s that I was missing everything. We had girls who could already sing or dance, so I inevitably felt like I had to put my all into it—or else. The only solution was to practice hard.
—Did you become confident in yourself through that practice?
Suwa: Good question. I memorize choreography faster than I did before, and my experiences over this time catalyzed my growth. Kanan and I only share a voice, while our appearances and personalities differ. So for concerts, I make my hair blue and my eyes purple. This makes me feel closer and closer to becoming one with Kanan.
—And how about you, Komiya-san?
Komiya: “Love Live! Sunshine!!” was pretty much my first time taking on the role of a voice actress. I had no understanding of how to approach reading an anime script, nor how to move in front of a mic. So I worked myself up into a frenzy. But since none of the other members had much experience with recording, I was relieved that, in some sense, we were all positioned at the same starting line.
Besides that, since I originally worked as an actress, I was overwhelmed by how I didn’t feel “idolish” enough for the job. You could say that my pride led me to feel too embarrassed about being sparkly like an idol.
—Do you feel like you’re able to project yourself as an idol now?
Komiya: Up until around our 2nd Live (“Aqours 2nd LoveLive! HAPPY PARTY TRAIN TOUR” in 2017), the stronger feeling was that of obligation—”I must do this”.
But I realized that I couldn’t enjoy performing at concerts when I was being animated by this obligation. Once I started focusing on enjoying myself, my feelings shifted as well. Though honestly, I still don’t know whether I really sparkle or not. (laughs)
—Komiya-san seems very close to Dia in terms of appearance.
Komiya: When I first saw them, I actually thought “there’s one that looks just like me”. (laughs) Yet she’s level-headed and talented, so our personalities differ. But, just like Aina, I got to know her human side, thanks to the anime. From there, I’ve gotten to understand her more and more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All three of the third-years are unexpectedly laid-back?
—What’s your impression of the relations between the third-years?
Komiya: Even though they find it hard to be fully honest with each other, they’re actually the ones that love each other the most!
Suwa: Though we only got to see that after graduation, right?
SuzukI: Yes, yes. They drifted apart, made up, and matured in Season 2 of the anime. Then in the movie, they finally became honest with each other.
Komiya: In the movie, I felt like their relationship went back to how it was when they were children, in a good way.
—You can feel how strong the bonds are between the third-years from how their childhood relationship continued all the way from their youth to now.
Suzuki: Since the third-years are childhood friends, they’re the ones that have known each other the longest, even among all the Aqours members. It’s really a great relationship—you can feel how strong their bonds are from watching the animated performance scenes.
—What’s something that the third-years will never lose to the other year groups in?
Suzuki: Maturity…?
Komiya: If we consider the anime, maybe it’s their ability to communicate their thoughts to each other, without saying a word. Aside from that, there are many scenes in which the third-years have to pull the first- and second-years back to reality, so perhaps the third-years’ strength is being grounded in reality.
Suwa: In real life, we worked hard for the third-year songs (“Tousou Meisou Moebius Loop”, “Yosoku Fukanou Driving!”) during 5th Live (“Aqours 5th LoveLive! ~Next SPARKLING!!!~” in 2019), and I think our performance was second to none compared to the other year groups.
Komiya: Also, we’re quite calm, and I guess more laid-back than the other year groups. We had plenty of standby time when we were performing for the 69th “NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen”. We had a narrow space separated by partitions, and the three of us got together, then wondered if we should prepare for the performance by taking a nap. (laughs)
Suzuki: Right, and not only that, but Suwawa (Suwa-san) went straight to sleep before me or Arisa! (laughs)
—So it’s characteristic of the third-years that you’re rock steady and ready at any moment.
Suwa: Yes, I think so. During the standby time, the first-years seemed like they were constantly playing games, so it was pretty lively over there. (laughs)
Komiya: Our ages aren’t even that different…
Tumblr media
—What is your mindset as you approach this 5th anniversary year?
Suzuki: We now have the privilege of performing on a dome tour in our 5th anniversary year. Although we’ve evolved and the stages have gotten bigger throughout the years, my feelings haven’t changed from when we started, and I want to move forward while keeping them in mind. As we move ahead, I don’t want to be satisfied with our current abilities. If each of us keeps doing what we can, I’m sure we’ll continue to be loved.
We’ll keep trying our best, so I hope that everyone will keep warmly watching over us. Please continue to support “Love Live! Sunshine!!” and Aqours from now on.
Komiya: After passing our goal of performing at Tokyo Dome, it would be nice if this dome tour serves as a fresh start as we visit several places.
Also, I’d be really happy if this tour enables many people to meet us for the first time. For those of you that are already fans of Aqours: if you have friends or acquaintances that are even a bit interested in us, I hope you can get them to come to a concert of ours and fall into the deep end. (laughs)
Since the venues have gotten bigger, we might end up seeming far away to some people. But our intention is always to be by your side. So please rest assured of that and enjoy our activities.
Suwa: Maybe there are people who learned about Aqours for the first time through this article. Even as we enter our 5th anniversary year, we won’t stop moving forward. If we’ve sparked anyone’s interest, please watch our previous performances, and maybe we can walk forward together from now onwards.
Tumblr media
The third-years cast tells all: what’s great about the other two?
Tumblr media
Suwa Nanaka on Komiya Arisa
Arisa gets greedy for food! (laughs) Whatever it is, if it's got something to do with food, her going to check it out once we get there is kind of cute. While she seems like an older sister type, the gap between that and her easy-going pace is funny.
Tumblr media
Suwa Nanaka on Suzuki Aina
Aina’s very good at singing in a genuine, straightforward way. Personally, I like her baby-like appearance (laughs)—it makes her really cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Komiya Arisa on Suwa Nanaka
Suwawa is always calm and collected, and she makes sure to pay attention to what’s around her when she acts. Her calmness in the face of anything, anywhere, is amazing!
Apparently, she also did some cooking during the shelter-in-place period. I usually don’t hear about her cooking, so that surprised me, and I think that part of her is quite cute.
Tumblr media
Komiya Arisa on Suzuki Aina
Aina is kind and easy to work with. Because of that, I feel like she’s able to bring us together. She’s always smiling and brightening up the room, no matter where we are, which is also very charming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suzuki Aina on Suwa Nanaka
Suwawa is the one I hang out with most in private, and she’s reliable in taking the lead by saying “let’s go here” or “let’s do this”. Though that might just be because I’m indecisive. (laughs)
When we’re out on a date, she walks on the cars’ side of the sidewalk like it’s natural, and when I run into trouble during Aqours’ activities and the like, she comes to my rescue. Her casual kindness is really amazing.
Her best feature is her skin, which is as pale as snow. This is gonna make me sound kind of creepy (laughs), but it feels very pleasant to touch.
Tumblr media
Suzuki Aina on Komiya Arisa
Arisa asks me “well, how about we go to a cafe?” whenever I’m troubled, and there, we talk it out directly—she’s the type to show rather than tell. Because she doesn’t like being indirect and she’s not two-faced, you can safely believe that she really means what she says.
But even though she seems reliable, she can be airheaded—she’ll do things like spill some food or space out. That gap moe is cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Q&A: Suwa Nanaka, voice of Matsuura Kanan
Tumblr media
Question 01: Tell us what you really like about Matsuura Kanan!
She’s somewhat naive, but she’s very thoughtful about her friends. Her figure is great, too. I think she’s charming in many ways. In the anime, the third-years have many serious scenes, but in the movie you can see them brighten up and run free after graduating from high school—I like that as well.
Question 02: Personally, is there anything you want or something you want to do right now?
It’s not really a “thing”. It’s difficult in the current situation, but I have a hobby of traveling, so I just want to go somewhere.
If I could choose, I’d go to Europe, but what I really want right now is to travel, so I feel like anywhere is fine.
Question 03: Are there any media, like books or games, that you’ve taken an interest in recently?
“Mystery to Iunakare” [a manga series]. I already liked mystery and crime dramas, and my interest was piqued when I happened to see an ad for it. Every time, even though I try figuring it out, I can never figure out the culprit, and after it gets solved, I go back and realize there was actually foreshadowing. I take quite a bit of time to read it.
Question 04: When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A kindergarten teacher. I like babies, so up until around middle school, I also thought I wanted to be a nursery school teacher. Right after that, I started wanting to become a voice actress.
Question 05: What do you do on your days off?
I go on solo trips. Even if the next day suddenly opens up, it’s pretty hard to invite someone out, so I almost always go out alone. Sometimes I go to places I’ve been thinking about visiting for the longest time, but there are also places that I had booked a hotel at when my holiday was confirmed.
Q&A: Komiya Arisa, voice of Kurosawa Dia
Tumblr media
Question 01: Tell us what you really like about Kurosawa Dia!
Everything, of course. (laughs) To be specific, in her roles as the student council president and as Ruby’s older sister, she always feels that she has to be reliable. But when she tries too hard to no avail—that human side of her is cute.
In Season 2, Episode 4 of the anime, you can feel that charm of hers gripping your heart. She hides her own feelings so that she can watch over everyone, but her own feelings slowly reveal themselves. It’s wonderful that she was finally able to act freely after that.
Question 02: Personally, is there anything you want or something you want to do right now?
The other day, I put on socks with lamé [fabric with metallic fibers] in them, and I noticed that my favorite black sneakers have a hole in them. I didn’t notice until now, since I’ve only worn black socks! I really want to get new ones as soon as I can.
Also, I’ve been buying more groceries that require freezing, and since I’ve noticed my freezer is small, I want a big freezer.
Question 03: Are there any media, like books or games, that you’ve taken an interest in recently?
I’ve always been buying “Kuroshitsuji” and “Kinou nani Tabeta?”. Recently, other than books and manga, I’ve gotten into the “Boku no Hero Academia” anime—I’ve watched through Season 4 of the anime as well as the movie. I like the Big 3’s Amajiki Tamaki.
Question 04: When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Sailor Moon. When I was young, since the classical ballet tutu looked like Sailor Moon’s uniform, I apparently thought that I could become Sailor Moon if I learned classical ballet. Though I completely forgot about that thought. (laughs) In middle school, I wanted to become a pharmacist, and in high school, I wanted to become a dietitian.
Question 05: What do you do on your days off?
I roll around and nap on the sofa, staring at the ceiling with no thoughts, head empty. (laughs) If I have errands to run or outings planned, I go out. But I don’t want my skin to get tanned, and when I wonder what reason there is for leaving the house if I don’t have a purpose in mind, I find myself not wanting to go out. If possible, I like to just stay inside my home and not do anything.
Q&A: Suzuki Aina, voice of Ohara Mari
Tumblr media
Question 01: Tell us what you really like about Ohara Mari!
She’s a very positive girl—she shines, she’s positive, and she’s fearless. But I particularly like how thoughtful she is towards her friends. Even though she never puts it into words, she loves Aqours so much that she’s always thinking about the other members even more than herself. It’s not often that someone can do as well as Mari in “conveying her love to everyone”.
Question 02: Personally, is there anything you want or something you want to do right now?
I want a Nintendo Switch Lite~! The Coral Pink one. I already have a Switch, but I want another one to carry around.
Besides that, right now, I want to do a concert as soon as possible! Even though concerts are tough, I want to find a way to carry my voice to our fans.
Question 03: Are there any media, like books or games, that you’ve taken an interest in recently?
I’ve been reading [the manga] “Houkago wa Kissaten de”—it’s a comfy romantic comedy, and I can’t help but grin when reading it. It really makes your heart skip a beat! (laughs) I’m also into the game “Identity V”. I mostly play the Violent Struggle game mode.
Question 04: When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was around five or six years old, I would say I wanted to work at “a cake shop!” (laughs), but from late elementary school to middle school, my dream was to be a manga artist. I was pretty serious—one thing I did was taking a correspondence course on becoming a mangaka.
Question 05: What do you do on your days off?
Sleep, play games… to me, that’s the best way to spend my time. (laughs) I often don’t go out, but sometimes I go shopping with my younger sister.

I know Barrett is your favourite Janis, but I'm curious to know, what are your thoughts on all the other non-Barrett Janises?
Fun question! Under the cut for the sake of people’s dashes
English Bernhardt- Fucking love it. Second favourite after Barrett. First off, her vocals are amazing. Let’s be real, probably the best Janis from a vocal standpoint. And her Janis is a certified little shit and I adore her. Tiny chaos bitch Janis but she’s also very soft and needs to be protected. So overall her performance is very nuanced and well-rounded (which is really important to me) and she’s just got such a loveable energy that comes through in all her roles. I just keep smiling as I’m watching her. To summarise, I love English!Janis very, very much please someone put the bootleg back up.
Mary Kate Morriessy- Really, really like it. Not quite as soft and warm as Barrett and English, like the harshness is less a wall she puts up and more of her actual personality, but she’s endearing enough that I still enjoy it and she’s definitely fun to watch. She’s just a goofy little oddball who doesn’t care what people think of her and has big meme queen energy. And she is the only one other than Barrett who delivers the “and that shit always works” line right. If I had one complaint it would be that she plays Janis as more confident than I view the character, but that’s a subjective thing.
I am also just going to take this moment to whoever decided that tour!Janis’ fishnets go over her hands and the sleeves of her jackets rolled up for the first 20 minutes or so of the show. That was such a good decision.
Gianna Yannelli- *sigh*. Okay I want to preface this by saying that Gianna seems like a lovely person and is obviously more talented than I am. But I just... don’t really like her Janis. I think she plays her as very overly harsh and really.... kind of an asshole. Like where Barrett and English’s Janises come off as pretending to be an asshole but it’s really a facade put up so they don’t get hurt, Gianna!Janis is just genuinely one. I don’t really get a lot of warmth or comfort from her Janis and since Janis is my comfort character, that’s not really something I like. I don’t want to sit with her at lunch, I want to stay 500 feet away from her. Her voice in Janis’ songs is also… not my favourite. I think overall her portrayal is kind of a one dimensional Angry Girl and I simply Do Not Vibe With It, but power to those who do.
The following ones are going to be a lot shorter because I haven’t seen enough of them to form a full opinion.
Olivia Kauffman- I have literally only heard her IRBM and Cautionary Tale but I loved both of them and I’m happy she’s full time Janis now, it’s what she deserves. I’m excited to see her grow in the role! Also she looks so good in the costumes.
Danielle Wade- I like what I’ve heard (which is just her IRBM and Apex Predator) but I don’t have enough to have an actual opinion other than it’s kind of trippy to hear her as Janis when she’s so strongly tied to Cady in my mind and her voice is so well-suited to Cady. But she’s still a solid Janis.
Sarah Crane- I’ve heard literally 2 minutes of her Janis but I like it! She has a very strong voice and deserves more appreciation.
Tee Boyich- I’ve only heard her IRBM and SGH Reprise but I really like both of them. Something that struck me in her SGH Reprise is that she just seems so fed up with everything, which I vibe with. Not my favourite interpretation of Janis and her voice does seem a bit too Disney Princess (which is an issue I also have with Danie Janis), but as I said I’ve only seen two songs and besides, anyone who makes their Broadway debut in a track they didn’t cover deserves nothing but respect.
Riza Takahashi- Put. Her. On. For. Janis. You. Damn. Cowards.
If I had to rank all the Janises that I have seen enough of, it would probably be Barrett>English>MK>Gianna.

[DCA Event] - Six Queens Event Part 5
Warning: Dark Jokes
[Howard - All you wanna do]
It was Cerule’s turn, the ghost sends a promiscuous feeling thorugh her soul. They expected Cerule to be like Briar, vulnerable to being possessed completely not because of a relation in their situation, but more like Cerule is a bit impulsive at times. But surprisingly she was just as strong willed as Vidya, it could be perhaps because of her family’s hereditary power.
Using her voice, the ghost is blocked by the magic that her voice possesses. She gets into center stage as her eyes glowed a bright pink. She gets her act on stage and the audience thought this was just the sexy type character. But they won’t realize that this act was the darkest part of the play.
Cerule starts to ‘roast’ the queens as they tell her that she can’t compete with them in terms of having the worst life. The crowd chuckles at her sarcasm, Jade and Rook were invested in this act and with how she carries herself with such confidence. They stan a queen who knows how attractive they are and doesn’t regret flaunting it.
Cerule: Yeah… yeah, you’re right. I’m gonna need all the luck I can get, your lives sounded terrible and your songs… really helped to convey that. I mean, Catherine, almost moving into a nunnery and then not? It almost could’ve been really hard for you. And Anne! Anne, getting your head chopped off? Surely, that means you’ll win the competition— oh, wait, wait, hang on a sec. Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded… oh, wait, nevermind. Audience:
Tumblr media
And Jane, dying of natural causes? When will justice be served?! And surviving… Audience: *Laughs as she skips Rozeline* Seriously, seriously, Anna, all jokes aside, being rejected for your looks legit sounds really rough. I wouldn’t know anything about that. Audience:
Tumblr media
Cerule: I mean look at me, I’m really fit. So yeah. I can’t even begin to think of how I’m going to compete with you all. Oh wait, like this...
She snaps her fingers as the lights flash pink and the song starts. Cerule had been practicing on using her voice for the act, since there was a lot of times she’s lost control over it. The harsh vocal training with Professor Faustus was worth it, she uses her voice to make the audience feel the wave of sensual excitement, but for only a small portion, it was enough to get them to focus on her.
Crowley feels the need to tell her that she shouldn’t be dancing so sensually, but Divus just pulls on his shirt collar again and reminds him that it’s a play, chill out or he’ll be tempted to tighten his tie. (Poor Crowley, his view on the perfectly well-behaved students are being dragged through the gutter, for real though... chill Bird Dad let the Serpent King do the scolding XD)
Jack was now praying to whatever Gods who might be listening to not have Idia kill him as Ortho sits there still with a curious expression. Like the majority of the audience, he can feel his cheeks flush in embarrassment.
Others who are affected are Epel who is red as Riddle who happens to be clutching Trey’s sleeve as the third year was covering his mouth with his hand, Ace is affected too but he’s focused on laughing at Deuce who is covering his eyes with his hands whenever Cerule coincidentally makes eye contact in his spot of the crowd. Cater was just vibing with the music, typical playboy not affected.
Azul is blushing too but he is struggling to NOT look away because he can feel Jade glance at him from time to time. Floyd was just enjoying the music, go figure. For Azul, if he looks away that would mean that the twins would NEVER shut up about this incident for weeks! He’s having a battle, internally with himself and the twins. Cerule’s dancing just makes it worse because it looked so damn convincing! Not to mention the way she sang the song! OCTOBOY IS REACHING PUBERTY XD
Cerule: All you wanna do, all you wanna do baby~ Touch me, love me can’t get enoughsies~ Azul:
Tumblr media
But when she reached the climax of her song the feeling of excitement faded as she her expression morphs from playful to a near meltdown, her dancing stops as she shakes off the hands of the queens when they make contact on her body. The crowd goes silent as the feeling of dread and pity washes over them like a raging wave.
Vil, let’s just say that he can find things that he can relate to being fairest. He may or may not have felt like this when he was pursuing his path of reaching ultimate beauty. He applauds Cerule’s acting, it looked so convincing, as if he was seeing the actual young queen go through the trauma of being used by the men in her life.
Cerule: Touch me when will enough BE ENOUGHSIES?! Audience: *silently realizing the real situation*
When the song was over, she could barely feel the possession fading since it was mostly blocked by the magic of her voice. At the end of the song, people were clapping loudly but there was little cheering.
Not because they didn’t like the act but because it took such a dark turn. But they admire the acting because some were in tears, we now know whose been in that situation before.
[Queens Fight]
Cerule lightens the atmosphere by explaining that’s how she was beheaded. This was the part where the queens would start to argue.
It starts when Cerule claims that she is the winner because she’s had it way worse. But the others seem to disagree with that.
Briar comes up to Cerule and states that she may have had it bad but it wasn’t the worst they have heard this evening.
Cerule retorts back by stating that she had sung four choruses, that’s the amount of SH*T she has had to deal with.
Allison speaks up by saying how the situation was similar to hers so she ain’t the only one who has experienced that.
Allison: Wow, yeah, being manipulated by men and paying the price, none of us could possibly imagine what that— oh wait, yeah, I did experience that. Evonie: Yeah, for like that last five minutes of your marriage, Anne! Men had manipulated me from day one. I was literally shipped over from a foreign country, not knowing a single word of English, to marry some random dude. Vidya: Oh my god, same! Audience: *laughs*
Tumblr media
Evonie tries to argue again about how the king didn’t even say goodbye but was cut off when Allison and Cerule said that they’ve been there too except she got to keep her lovely neck. The two high five while giving Evonie the stink eye.
And her last statement about the king not allowing her to see her only child who had the chickenpox, which sets Briar off. And the outburst shocks everyone, the motherly queen lashing out in anger.
Evonie: when my one and only child had a raging fever, Henry didn’t even let me, her MOTHER see her- Briar: OH BOOHOO! Baby Mary had the chickenpox and you weren’t there to hold her hand! You know, it’s funny because when I wanted to hold my newborn son, I died!
Malleus: *Was just accepting it at face value and has no energy left to be shook anymore*
Tumblr media
The entire room was silent as they gawked at Briar’s outburst.
Vidya buts in by yelling how she has the plague and the queens all turn to her, concern written on their faces.
Vidya: Guys I have the plague! Queens: What?! Vidya: Lol I’m just kidding my life’s amazing~
Tumblr media
At the sight of a smug queen with the other five giving her a displeased look, the crowd erupts into laughter.
Kalim is laughing while he’s clinging to Jamil, Ace was choking on his spit and is trying not to laugh because he is going to lose more oxygen. Floyd is cackling because he would probably do this joke too if he had the money to back it up. Azul is scowling a bit because, let’s face it he had a bad life at childhood.
Although Vidya adds that she was humiliated on an international scale but Allison sarcastically asks who could possibly relate but Evonie snaps at her at what would she know about humiliation. This was the moment that sh*t went down.
Evonie: You seriously wanna talk about humiliation?! Well, when I was queen... Henry had not one, not two but three historically confirmed mistresses! Allison: Oh no, mistresses.. GET OVER IT! When I was queen I had not one, not two, but THREE... M I S C A R R I A G E S!
*Record Scratch*
Vil, Divus, Cater, Rook, Jade and Lilia:
Tumblr media
Riddle, Azul, Jack, Sebek and Malleus:
Tumblr media
Ace, Deuce, Epel, Ortho, Floyd and Silver:
Tumblr media
Crowley:
Tumblr media
The audience went apesh*t at that and it got crazier when Evonie one-upped her by yelling how she had five miscarriages. And the five queens started going at each other’s throats and yelling.
Rozeline stopped the fighting by yelling, “That’s ENOUGH!”
[Extra]
Rozeline yelled so loud that it shocked the five queens. To the audience it was just acting but for Rozeline this was going out of control. She could feel the ghosts nearly take over the dorm leaders as they argued. Their eyes glowing brighter and even Vidya and Cerule who had really strong wills to resist were being crumbled down almost becoming vulnerable themselves.
That was a close call for sure, but Rozeline thought back to the moment they got possessed. She had a song prepared about the life of the sixth queen but looking back at it, what was the point of making their pain known? She sympathized with the queens because they were in the same position as her, they felt powerless against the man who held the power to take away their lives. But should she just end the show with their suffering?
What about the happy ending? She wanted them to be recognized but would she want them to be recognized like this?
The six wives of Henry VIII who suffered in his hands?
That was what they were, just HIS wives. Nothing has changed and Rozeline was not about to settle for this!
They’ve had enough suffering, she regrets not seeing this sooner but she’ll make the ending count. Hopefully the girls wouldn’t mind if she went off script for just a bit, right? Time for a histo-rewrite to ensure the legacy of the Six!
She just needs the ghosts to realize that they are so much more than just their history with the king.

Last Song: Wolf Alice - The Last Man on Earth. Augh, this song. It's so beautiful and I can't make up my mind whether to put it on my Mormor or Sheriarty playlists. It's not the words so much as the general vibe...idk. Maybe I'll just enjoy it as it is, though is a song really a song if you can't utilise it for fandom purposes? (ofc it is but you know what I mean.)
Currently Reading: We'll include 'listening to' on this as well because I've always got an audiobook on the go. I just started 'Fire from Heaven' by Mary Renault. It's the first in a triology about Alexander the Great, and I heard about them because they were raved about in two other fictional works I've recently read. So far, so good.
As for physical books/ebooks, I just finished a few but I'm about to start 'Dune' (probably should have read that already), and am about of a third of the way into 'Lanny' by Max Porter, which omg, is so so so good. If you haven't read Lanny, do it. But read 'Grief is the Thing with Feathers' first, because that might be the best thing I read last year. So original in style, and gorgeous. And 'Lanny' is not a follow up but might be even better, idk yet. Strong recommend.
Currently Watching: RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under, which I am very behind on. But GO SCARLET, just because she's super hot both in and out of drag. I also obviously devoured The Pursuit of Love - not as great as the book but still loved it, and Lord Merlin could murder me with a pineapple and I'd just say 'thank you'. Other than that I have been mostly watching football, though the season's over now so I'll probably find something to dig into soon enough.
Last Movie: Uuummmm. Hmm. Can't remember? It's not like cinemas have been open and I struggle with the attention span to sit through a film at home these days. Oh wait though...it was the first X-Files movie a month or two ago. Kidlet and I are doing a full X-Files watch/rewatch (obvs she has not seen it before; obvs I had seen the first four or five seasons, I forget, but OH MY GOD I was not prepared to reignite my crush on Mulder as;ldfkj my teenage lust for him was entirely justified, well done self for having excellent taste, yes sir). So yes, it was that movie. The next movie will probably be the second X Files one when we get that far.
Craving: Motivation to stop eating junk food and get back into the gym. I was doing so well a month ago. For term to be over so I can get time to write again. The attention span to be able to write. A job that excites and fulfills me. My friends. A holiday. All the usual stuff.
Tagging literally everyone. Yes, this includes you. Let me see what awesome things you are devouring at the moment so I may devour them too.

Sarah’s AHS Characters (+Alice and a Ship) as Songs I’m Vibing With
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Instead of a collection of songs from one artist these are songs I’m currently vibing with? Here’s the playlist if you wanna listen (warning it fluctuates a lot because it’s just songs a vibe with at the moment). I skipped the songs I used in artist posts.
Billie Dean Howard
“24 / 7/ 365″ by Surfaces
Met, this girl down by the vine Had long tan legs and big brown eyes Seemed the type I would wanna make mine
She said nine to five, I'm killing time But twenty-four-seven, three-six-five I have to be where I feel your sunshine
One to two-step, three-step, four She's everywhere out on the dance floor She's everything you could ever want and more
Picture it. Billie Dean is at some event. She spies a girl who’s mesmerizing, killing it on the dance floor. Realizing this girl is absolutely the person she wants to be with. The line “I have to be where I feel your sunshine”!! Big Billie Dean vibes right there. In the darkness that her job sometimes entails, she’s drawn to the light of her lover. A ray of sunshine if you will.
“Heaven Falls / Fall on Me” by Surfaces
Woke up early in the mornin' Just to feel the light of day Had to open up my window Get the shadows out my way Banana pancakes for my problems Find me jamming old Jack Johnson Swear I heard them angel calls Lay outside
As Heaven falls Heaven falls
If you can’t tell, Surfaces really makes me think of Billie Dean. This goes with my explanation for the other song. Billie’s job gets pretty dark and intense. Although she never completely gets a break from her job (because she can’t just turn off being a medium) she tries to use her time away from filming and darker locations to focus on the lighter aspects of life, savoring all around her and her lover. I have no idea if what I said makes sense though.
Lana Winters
“Let’s Fall in Love for the Night” by FINNEAS
Let's fall in love for the night And forget in the mornin' Play me a song that you like You can bet I'll know every line I'm the boy that your boy hoped that you would avoid Don't waste your eyes on jealous guys, fuck that noise I know better than to call you mine
This song gives me Lana vibes in the sense that she doesn’t really want to get too attached to people. This also makes me think of how Lana is the type of lover that someone’s conservative/strict family wouldn’t want them with (because of the gay). When you go this route, it’s hard for me not to picture teenage Lana when listening to this.
Fun fact: I have a vague idea for writing a Billie Dean Howard x Reader imagine over this song.
“me & ur ghost” by blackbear
I'm not alone It's just me and your ghost And this cripplin' depression I thought I learned my lesson But, I threw out my phone And I burned all your clothes And now I'm not alone It's just me and your ghost
Now hear me out. Post break up Lana dealing with all of her memories of her ex and then burning all of their shit because Lana is lowkey that bitch. It’s a bit of a stretch, but that’s just my humble opinion on the matter.
Cordelia Goode
“If We Were Vampires” by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
It's not the long, flowing dress that you're in Or the light coming off of your skin The fragile heart you protected for so long Or the mercy in your sense of right and wrong It's not your hands searching slow in the dark Or your nails leaving love's watermark It's not the way you talk me off the roof Your questions like directions to the truth
It's knowing that this can't go on forever Likely one of us will have to spend some days alone Maybe we'll get forty years together But one day I'll be gone Or one day you'll be gone
Cordelia knows that one day she will die. There will be another Supreme after her and she can’t live forever. This is her coming to terms with the fact that maybe it’s for the best that she won’t stay around forever. Not being immortal allows her to live in the moment and savor all the time she has.
“PlantedInMyMind.Memo” by Charlie Burg
Saying things I don't believe And your love casts it's shadow on the things I do And I can hear so clearly all the words I'd wish I'd said You're stuck in my head But I only think of you Will we be together soon? I'm thrown on the wayside You're planted in my mind But I don't wanna be ok without you
This makes me think of an angsty Cordelia relationship like post “In Another Lifetime”?!?! Cordelia being stuck on her lover from the past
Also makes me think of Cordelia x Misty after the events of season 3
Bette and Dot Tattler
“prom dress” by mxmtoon
I can't help the fact I like to be alone It might sound kinda sad, but that's just what I seem to know I tend to handle things usually by myself And I can't ever seem to try and ask for help
I'm sitting here, crying in my prom dress I'd be the prom queen if crying was a contest Makeup is running down, feelings are all around How did I get here? I need to know
I guess I maybe had a couple expectations Thought I'd get to them, but no I didn't
I’m not going to lie, this is a bit of a stretch.
I’m kind of getting Bette and Dot wishing they could be like everyone else. They just want that normal teen experience?
Sally McKenna
“Teeth” by 5 Seconds of Summer
Call me in the morning to apologize Every little lie gives me butterflies Something in the way you're looking through my eyes Don't know if I'm gonna make it out alive
Fight so dirty, but your love's so sweet Talk so pretty, but your heart got teeth Late night devil, put your hands on me And never, never, never ever let go
The angst! The tension! The passion! SPICY TIMES WITH SALLY
“fuck, i’m lonely” by Lauv, Anne-Marie
I call you one time, two time, three time I can't wait no more Your fingers through my hair, that's on my mind I know it's been a minute since you walked right through that door But I still think about you all the time
Sally just wants love. She’s sick of being lonely and wants to be with the person she loves. Being a ghost sucks and she wants out of that damn hotel.
Dealing with her ex that is still alive while she’s not.
Audrey Tindall
“Prom Queen” by Beach Bunny
Shut up, count your calories I never looked good in mom jeans Wish I, was like you, blue-eyed blondie, perfect body Maybe I should try harder You should lower your expectations I'm no quick-curl barbie I was never cut out for Prom Queen If I get more pretty, do you think he will like me?
Teen Audrey. I will stand by this.
Now I’m thinking about teen Audrey and my heart :(
Ally Mayfair Richards
“I Needed You” by blackbear
When I needed you the most, I needed you I fucking needed you the most, I needed you, the most Now I won't be there to give you what you need Now I won't be there, no
You know this was never really about us And everything was always 'bout you You never knew a thing about trust And I knew everything about you, what's happening Three whole years, they can go by In a blink of an eye, and you won't know it, but What a damn waste of time
You can’t sit there and tell me this doesn’t sound like Ally dealing with Ivy’s betrayal. No. There is no way this song doesn’t give off those vibes. Like sis was dealing with a ton of shit and where was her wife??? Off gallivanting and murdering with a cult because she voted for Jill Stein.
Wilhemina Venable
“Lovesong (The Way) [feat. Bluets]” by Charlie Burg
Now you're away with nothing to say My heart aches like never before Filled with desire, you've inspired me to write another verse
I think we're alone now You can tell me it was all just a game Yes, we're alone now But the feeling's slightly changed
But you take your time, my love Don't ever tell me that it just takes time to love As long as I'm writing this song about my love for you Is it too much to ask For a reply? Or a text? Or a way to tell you love me like before
I don’t knooowww. This just makes me think of Mina trying to deal with her feelings and possibly her significant other kind of giving up because they feel like Mina will never reciprocate their feelings. Mina does love them but it’s hard for her to express it.
“Someday” by Peach Tree Rascals
I hate the fact that you Run on mind, all damn day There she goes
Girl won't you wait for me
I settled down, I'm better now I never knew what this life was about Days got too plain, colors got dull All of the roses fell on to the floor I'll pick them up, wipe the dust Need a chance for your love For your love, for your love, ooooh I've been floating between oceans And the darkness in the sky I've been lonesome in this old shed And it's burnin through my mind
Similar to the song above, Mina hates the fact that she’s stuck on this person, but she eventually realizes that she needs this person in her life. This love really out here making her appreciate life and all the good things in it.
Basically Mina is turning into a softie.
Alice Macray
“Mariposa” by Peach Tree Rascals
I can't wait for you To come my way I've been far away But I'll keep runnin' Just to find a way to you til' then
I been running from it Tired of running from it Scared of feeling something now I'm stuck and tryna get up out of this hole
Surface level this song has some good vibes like our baby Alice. Over analyzing level is not as good vibes. This song is kind of like our baby Alice running from her feelings for someone because the thought of such strong feelings is scary for her.
Billie Dean Howard x Audrey Tindall
“Channel Orange in Your Living Room” by Charlie Burg
We met when I was drunk That party didn't actually suck You made fun of how slow I drank
But now I can't stop thinking about you Each moment passes and my thoughts return to you And the memory of us too As we listen to Channel Orange in your living room
Even when you're away That album makes me feel like you stayed To listen now would make me a fool again for you
Without a doubt, I always think of these two when I listen to the song and that’s one of the reasons why I love it so much. I’m just picturing the two of them meeting a party together and Billie taking Audrey back to her place. Then they end up thinking of each other long after the night is over.

🌻
I’ve been listening to Tally Hall’s album “Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Muesum” nonstop for all of quarentine so here are my opinions on all of the songs individually:
Good Day: I love this song! It makes me feel excited and it’s a bit of a power anthem for me! I especially love the chorus and outro, and all the little things you can pick out are neat little touches! Favourite Line: “Kill all it’d bad dreams, wonder ‘bout no things, circles and spirals in mind.”
Greener: Transitions smoothly from Good Day, and I love that! Not exactly my favourite, but it’s a good break up song (or long distance relationship if you think of it like that). Favourite Line: “… you get a little cleaner of me, and I find a little greener shade of envy.”
Welcome To Tally Hall: There’s so many things going on in this song. What genre is this, rap? Pop? I don’t know, but it’s pulled off great. I like that they use the tie colours as identifiers instead of names for people not as invested in the band! Also again the little audio bits you here sound like old video or arcade sounds and it’s nostalgic for me! There’s also TONS of puns and references! Great song! Favourite Line: “On booty duty like your name is Eddie Thatch’.”
Taken for a Ride: I LOVE THIS SONG, it may be my favourite, for good reason! I love every single demo of this song too, it’s interesting to see how the robotic voice evolved, and it reminds me of Hawaii Part II (which was my first taste of a few of the members of Tally Hall). I really love the story of this song, and the sections blend into each other so well! I adore this song, it makes me want to dance and sing at the top of my lungs during the verses, but it’s so soothing in the pre-chorus and chorus! Favourite Line: “The actor with his world renown was thinking ‘bout his last real day of silence. Was it over?”
The Bidding: I think this was the first Tally Hall song I heard. I heard the “I graduated at the top” verse from Instagram edits, leading to my love for both this song and the band. This song isn’t the best compared to Taken for a Ride and Spring and a Storm, but it still bops pretty hard. A solid 9/10, in my opinion. Also I love how well their voices are in the beginning! Also also, it’s a lovely metaphor. Favourite Line: “I’ve been here like a thousand times, dated every woman in the atmosphere…”
Be Born: Not my favourite, not a fan of more acoustic songs, but it’s still pretty good. I love the chorus though. Not much to say on it, really. Favourite Line: “I was in your shoes before, or, lack thereof, and things worked out for me.”
Banana Man: The VIBES!!! It’s really just a silly little song. It is just immaculate, I don’t think I could explain it if I tried. Incredible, please listen to it! (Also I love the little 1, 2, 3, Go! In the background!) Favourite Line: Look you, you too uptight you know! You could laugh and kick it back and go (whee) but without a rhythm or a rhyme you do not banana all de time.”
Just Apathy: Least favourite song, it’s just not par to the others in my opinion. I like the chorus but I really don’t like the verses that much, and the story is just kinda. Sad. It’s called Just Apathy for a reason… Favourite Line: “Consider the possibility that you’ve been had, but not by me.”
Spring and a Storm: I lied Taken for a Ride isn’t my favourite song, it‘s definitely Spring and a Storm. The uke? The lyrics? The background noises? THE MR. MOON SECTION??? It’s all fantastic, and I love it so so so much. 10000000/10!!! The demo’s also fantastic, and has a completely different Mr. Moon section! And Joe’s Mr. Moon in the demo is so sweet sounding, and Rob and Zubin’s children voices are incredible in the demo. Favourite Line: literally all of it it’s all so good please listen to it
Two Wuv: The fact that in the Internet Show that this takes place in a grave yard is so fucking funny to me. Nonetheless it’s a solid song with strong 90’s vibes. Relatable if you liked Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Favourite Line: “It’s sadness every day that passes without you and I really wanna really wanna really wanna hold you both tight…”
Haiku: THIS SONG IS SO CLEVER! The verses all have a 5-7-6 syllable pattern, so it’s like you can feel the haiku is so close but not quite there. It’s over all so so so sweet and I love the song so much, definitely in my top 5. Favourite Line: “Words don’t work like Webster says, they trip me up all night. I’m just trying to write for you, but you’re hard to write down right.”
The Whole World and You: IF YOU HAVE A CRUSH SEND THEM THIS SONG. It is literally the sweetest song I’ve ever fucking heard. It’s the embodiment of the “🥺” emoji. Anyway the song itself is so incredibly lovely. AND THE TRUMPET!!!!!! Favourite Line: “I hope you’re happy now I’ve revealed the truth. I’ve even written this whole song about you, and not about me, and not about me.”
13: 13 is a wonderful intro/transition to Ruler of Everything. I love the violin!
Ruler of Everything: THIS SONG SLAPS! Also the constant clock sounds? Holy shit this is a wonderful metaphor for time, and it’s so catchy. And all the voice changers are so funky! Favourite Line: “Do you like how I walk? Do you like how I talk? Do you like how my face disintegrates into chalk?”
Hidden In the Sand: A great end to the main album! It’s short and simple, but it love it! The ukulele is wonderful, and the almost haunting backup voices give this peaceful song an almost eerily touch. When this is paired with the music video, which is absolute chaos, it’s amazing how it all works together! Favourite Line: “When you had to bid adieu, said you’d never love anew, I wondered if I could hold it and fall in love with it too.”
Mucka Blucka (Bonus Track): I find it hysterical that I can vibe so heavily to a song containing nothing but chicken noises that resemble vague profanities. I find it even funnier that I can hit the highest solo in it. In context of the Tally Hall Internet Show, it’s only that much more hilarious. Favourite Part: That one fucking solo that goes so fucking high it’s so fucking funny-
Dream (Bonus Track): like the name suggests, it’s incredibly dream like! Every single melody has its own place, but they all blend together so well in such a haunting way. It’s a beautiful song, and it has such a unique balance of beauty and dread to it.
