so much of debut is about taylor observing the people in her life. tied together with a smile, stay beautiful, mary’s song, even cold as you to an extent tell the stories of others, and they’re placed alongside extremely personal songs like a place in this world, the outside, and tim mcgraw among others. you’re seeing someone slowly go from watching others go through life to developing her own emotions and identity—all while immortalizing them and younger versions of herself in her music.
I feel like we don’t talk enough about how MATURE Stay Beautiful is for a teenager?? Like…I hope you love me back, I hope we work out but if not, I still wish you the best and I want you to know how great you are anyway
This one was truly for all the unrequited love girlies out there (yes I was one of them and yes Stay Beautiful was one of my favourite songs when I was 16-17)
Something something about Taylor pairing a song written back in high school for someone she and everyone else thought would go on to be bigger than the town and doing great things with one that acknowledges how she was born to be a suburban legend and be bigger than where she came from.
