Note
hihi, this is a weird request bc all characters have different preferences but i was wondering if you could make a hc of what type of s/o the death note characters want? 😊 if that hasn’t already been requested
Notes: I got 2 reqs like this which i think is very cute
Warnings: n/a just fluff
Characters involved: L, Light, Mello, Near
Gender-neutral reader, you/yours
L
L would be into someone who is independent.
He's always busy and working on new cases which is why he needs a partner who is able to take care of themselves, someone who can understand how he can't be around all the time.
He finds extroverted people quite interesting, and would probably be more inclined toward someone who is openly kind and understanding.
Someone who can initiate conversations and even affection since L can be awkward around people.
He also thinks the fact that other people seem to be pretty comfortable around this type of person is intriguing, which is why he probably tries to see if your kindness is an act.
Once he knows for sure that you aren't pretending or anything, L gets comfortable around you easily, seeking out that warmth and kindness you so easily give to others.
Light
Light is attracted to intellectual people.
On one hand, this is because he's smart and wants someone like him, but on the other, he just wants someone who can easily keep up with him. Someone he doesn't need to fill in all the time.
Someone who can easily assist him but can also be fun to play with.
To others you might be a very smart person, however, you're not nearly at L and Light's level, which is perfect for him.
It means you can hold your own but you are in no position to threaten or one-up him.
Light probably meets you at school or college and initially thinks nothing of you, categorizing you as one of the many people who he can use in the future.
However, it's only when he realises you somehow have no interest in him whatsoever (whether it be platonic, romantic or just curiosity), that Light finally gets interested in you.
He likes the idea of a chase and is more than happy to make you see what you've been missing out on.
He didn't expect to fall for you, but once he does, Light is quick to make you his.
Mello
Mello is into the more homely type of people. The kind who wear warm sweaters and like hugging people, the kind who makes you smile just because they're beside you.
People would think he would be attracted to someone like him, someone who's kind of badass, but after a childhood of neglect and an adulthood of violence, Mello is drawn to your calm, homely nature.
You remind him that there are good parts of the world, parts that he just didn't get to see, parts that he wants to explore with you.
Whether it be soft relationship moments or mundane everyday things that Mello had never experienced before.
He also likes how after a day of work at the mafia he can come back to you, sometimes even littered with wounds, and you will always accept him with open arms.
Mello appreciates the tinge of normalcy you bring to his life, and thinks that just being around you makes him happy.
He's a very Tsundere person though, so you might not realise how much you actually mean to him.
Near
Near is attracted to quiet people.
Unlike L who seeks out someone who is the opposite of him, Near finds comfort in being around someone similar to him, someone who makes it easier to talk to them.
He thinks it's their similarities that allows him to open up more without the fear of saying too much or too little, of being weird.
Near met you during one of the rare times he decided to take some time off of work and go about the city.
You weren't anything special, in fact, you blended in so seamlessly at first he didn't even spare you a second glance. It was only when you looked up at the sound of a new person entering the cafe that Near turned towards you.
He had obviously noticed your presence when he entered, but he hadn't bothered to pay attention to you until then.
It takes weeks of the two of you going to the same cafe before he bothers looking into you, for intel of course, and decides that you're perfectly ordinary and thus are in no way a spy or threat.
Near finds himself talking to you a while after that.
You're the first one to approach him and start the conversation, but as time passes Near finds himself taking daily breaks off of work to meet you.
He thinks it's refreshing to talk to someone who isn't a criminal or figure of justice, and looks forward to your little talks.
Over time, Near allows your relationship to develop into something more.

top 5 apex characters and any thoughts or opinions on them?
hey anon yeah i love you also i am about to be so annoying i might need to hide this under a "read more" (future me here. yeah i did)
1. Crypto (obviously)
- everything about him (besides current lore 😒) is perfect to me i love backstories that include a wanted criminal aspect and the fact he is wanted but innocent just adds so much more flavor & i think the whole "to break the game i must do it from the inside" idea is badass. i also love all the familial themes surrounding his backstory i love that for the most part he is a cold and calculated person but despite being jaded due to all the misfortune that happened to him in life he still cares about his family and the few people he allowed to get closer to him, that he still has the capability to do that in the first place even when it has hurt him before.
- i love the whole crypto is just a protective mask to hide tae joon park and i like to treat them as 2 separate people. my gripe is that i wish we learned more about tae joon park, but i also sorta like that it leaves room for fans to interpret who tae joon park is on their own. from the very small bits & pieces it does seem like tae joon park is an overall softer more caring & trusting person compared to the closed off, on edge person that is crypto and it makes me all emo that all the unlucky shit that happened to him in life caused him to resort to being coldhearted and distrustful even when (i personally think) he doesnt want to
- also his design fucking rips idc. maybe im just a big jacket enjoyer but its so fun, it makes sense for his personality and the cybernetics ARE SOOOOO FREAKING GNARLY they r both sexy and lore important i love it
- for issues the most obvious one is FORCING A CHEMISTRYLESS ROMANCE BETWEEN HIM AND YOU KNOW WHO. i FUCKING HATE that they have written such an intriguing backstory for him & DONT DO ANYTHING WITH IT WITHOUT IT HAVING TO INCLUDE WATTSON. i hate how they cannot be their own separate characters and have to always have their stories intertwined in some way its like the writers are allergic to making them hang out with literally anyone else. kill code as boring as it was came so fucking close to that but the recent radio play had to ruin it because of course. of fucking course.
- i also hate the completely unnecessary age retcon. i hate that it frames him as a supergenius computer whiz at a young age. he was so much more likeable & easier to sympathize with as a completely normal office worker that just wanted to provide for him & his sister, only for it to bite him in the ass when he did literally nothing to deserve it. i hate having yet another character in their early 20s in this already oversaturated age range in media as a whole.
- i hate that with every lore update hes involved in it just further mutilates his character. i hate that i cant be excited when my FAVORITE CHARACTER gets lore attention because it just provides more opportunity for the writers to stomp on him. they dont care about him as his own character. they care about him in regards to the relationships he has with other people. thats not how u write a compelling, likeable, or realistic bond between people. it makes me so mad i wanna SCREAM
- anyway crypto tae joon park is my pookie bear he is autistic and he likes dragons and cats and kpop and elliott and being a good friend to the point of sacrificing himself i like him normally also he is my oc now
2. Mirage (obviously)
- mirage is just an objectively likeable character truly like there is a reason he is essentially the face of apex. he was my first favorite & for good reason. u get lured in with his endearing goofiness & then get smacked in the face with one of the most tragic and completely undeserved backstories. maybe im just a slut for characters that "wear masks" & have completely polarizing versions of themselves as a self preservation tactic because i love Mirage being the self absorbed, smooth, attention-seeking bastard on screen and i love love LOVE Elliott Witt with his crippling fear of loneliness and inferiority complex, slowly losing the things that mattered most in his life and feeling like it was somehow his fault & he deserves it
- but i dislike the flanderization hes facing in current lore. i dont remember the last time he was anything other than the goofy guy with a stutter that cant take things seriously. that old comic of him losing his friends because of his own douchebaggery & working to fix his wrongs is my prized possession. he is hurt & lonely & it causes him to lash out on people that dont deserve it and i wish they explored that more. i desperately need more asshole mirage in my life. nowadays he just feels like the one-note silly character whos only purpose is to fill in the comic relief role.
- also he has some of the worst fans ive ever seen im sorry they were like the main reason he stopped being my favorite. they baby him like he has never done nothing wrong in his entire life & in turn shit on characters like wraith or vantage bc they were "mean to him." as if he isnt capable of being an asshole, as if there isnt an entire comic dedicated to him being an asshole. i also hate that fans either lean in 100% into his mirage personality or 100% into his elliott witt personality. he is either a loudmouthed egotistical slut or an innocent wittle mamas boy that needs to be protected at all times never anything outside or in between and it drives me insane.
- shes still my sweetie pie. my biggest kin. i love writing him sooo much. i want to chew him. i want to set him on fire. i want to tuck him in and give him a forehead kiss before he goes to bed.
coughs anyway now with all that out of the way
3. Conduit
- im filipino of course im gonna be biased but hellooooo she is also just so likeable it is insane!! a sweet, goofy fangirl we can relate to that is literally killing herself just to provide for her family ouch it hurts GIVE ME MORE. all her little easter eggs and her fun voicelines like the devs really really loved & cherished her & it shows & she deserves it! my main issue is that it is literally her season rn yet all they care about is revenant Revenant REVENANT give me more conduit! what is her story with her family? hows her sister in particular holding up? how does she cope with her illness? will she ever open up about it to any of the legends? are they ever going to try to help her? is crypto gonna help find her a cure like he did caustic & then they kiss
4. Lifeline
- love her. love her personality. a medic that also isnt afraid to get her hands dirty & chew ppl out? love that for her. i also like where the current lore has been taking her (me? liking current lore? what a shocker), the fact that she was willing to destroy one of her strongest & longest bonds to defeat a greater evil? BANGER. she hurt people & she made sacrifices to get to this point but what does she get from it? a best friend that doesnt want to speak to her & a whole fucking army of murderous robots that want her dead. i wonder if shell have a "is this really what i wanted? did i just fuck everything up?" internal crisis cuz atp i feel like she has to. id love to see it
- also i am no.1 lifeline defender idgaf the demonization shes facing in the fandom for hurting their pookie wookie bear octane is so blatant and laughable u ppl really hate black women. its ok for ur favorite male character to make questionable morally gray decisions but got forbid ajay does it. gtfo of here!
5. Rampart
- just another objectively likeable character plsss she is sooo funny & sassy and there is not a single rampart interaction/relationship she has with another legend that i hate. she also has the biggest wasted potential ever. they were cooking something so good with big sister and ramparts relation to her & NEVER DO ANYTHING WITH JT. its been 13 seasons and nothing has progressed in her lore and its so so sad. she needs a focus season soon. u dont just drop a fun character with an intriguing backstory and just ditch it.
look im not going to read this back to fix things around if it seems disjointed with a lack of direction IDCCCC i am cringe and free!

On the characters in The Dragon Reborn
Lan turns out to be quite lacking compared to other characters. At best, he seems mostly bland, at worst he’s the paragon of my least favourite traits in heroic characters.
I am still quite neutral about Elayne, and her brothers for that matter, not because they aren't compelling, but because I struggle with seeing how they fit into the story.
Aviendha didn't leave more of an impression than other Aiel, whom I really enjoyed overall, so holding my judgment here.
Faile was love at first sight though: I loved her to bits, from her spunk to her stubbornness. From whispers of the fandom, I know she isn't particularly liked, but so far, she's a hit for me.
Rand was just not there in this book at all: when I wished we got less Rand, this isn't what I meant. The glimpses we got were captivating though and made it seem like his mind has already unravelled, which I hadn't expected would happen this quickly.
Surprisingly warming up to Thom and Mat, although the nasty streak in Mat, gift from the dagger obviously, can be jarring at times. I was always looking forward to their chapters, pure cloak and daggers fun, and both their characters are gaining depth and nuance.
Perrin remains my favourite of the boys, mostly because he struggles so much, is so lost, but is still a trouper who wants to help his friends.
Siuan, Moiraine and Verin remain the characters for which I will always say upon reading their name "now time's to be entertained": beyond the fact they seem to evolve in a web full of danger, intrigues and moral quandaries - you'd think this is a Le Carré novel in medieval times with Siuan visiting the kitchens to exchange intel -, they are just fascinating women to follow. And I crave more insights into the mind of Siuan and Moiraine because UH. I love them.
And yes, Moiraine gets a second bullet point because from the bare-hand fish-catching to the angry door-banging, with the bloody sleuthing around Forsaken and Darkhounds in-between, she remains such an absolute badass.
Loving Nynaeve is a bit of a rollercoaster: she sometimes can be such a fool, but many of my favourite scenes involve her, and she's indubitably the most relatable main character to me. And like with Moiraine, I spend an inordinate amount of time repeating “thank the light she’s here to supervise these idiots.”
To me, Egwene has grown into the most interesting psychology-wise: like with Nynaeve there is a lot going on in terms of her age and the way others perceive her, but there's also… She clearly has PTSD from her time with the Seanchan and gets no treatment whatsoever. Apologies for the armchair psychology here, but I was fascinated by her anger at Nynaeve being tied to the authority Nyn used to have over her and that is now a massive trigger after the Seanchan. The idea that she fought like a beast the Black Ajahs, almost burning herself, getting bludgeoned, to avoid being subdued again… I feel so protective of her and intrigued by an arc that could very well become a devolution: they are so rare and so good for women in fiction.

I didn't like the Lost Judgment DLC: The Kaito Files.
I was initially excited because Kaito is one of my FAVOURITE CHARACTERS! He comes off as a himbo at first, but he's so kind, sweet, caring, and would do anything for his friends. He's got Tak's back no matter what!
But oh my god, the DLC was just predictable as HELL and everything was just too perfectly concluded. Oh, his ex-girlfriend is on a revenge rampage for who killed her family? LOL, DON'T WORRY, SHE JUST HAPPENED TO BE AT THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME, SHE'S ACTUALLY DONE NOTHING BAD OR ILLEGAL TEEHEE!!!
Also Kaito isn't taking the money because FEELS, but when "his" innocent baby widdle kid is involved (let's be real, you know he's not Kaito's son if you have EYES), LET'S GO HELP HIM. SCREW THE HUBBY WHO ALSO LOVES HIS WIFE (as far as we know if we can get over how obvious it is he's gonna be the bad guy), KAITO DON'T NEED THE MONEY BC HE'S A GREAT GUY!!!!!!
Also that dumb fight at the end with the guy who took care of Mikiko, and you don't have a TRUE choice on if you get with her or not, it's just there BECAUSE? I liked Mikiko, I thought she was badass and strong (though her being SO GIRLBOSS that no yakuza could take her when Kaito first meets her? YEAH, OKAY.) but it just felt like bad writing in some ways.
Idk, it was just too clean and happy. The Judgment games always end on a vaguely happy note (Tak and crew are usually mad chilling during the credits), but with the traumatic sad stuff having already happened.
I feel like no one learned anything, no one grew as a person, it was just there to vaguely wrap some things up because of the Takuya Kimura stuff. It seemed like it was B-team writing, and I only played through the whole thing for achievements. Truth be told, I was bored an hour in because there was a huge lack of intrigue or mystery. It was a chore to keep going, and I turned the game down to easy at some point just to speed things up.
OBVIOUSLY Mikiko was alive. OBVIOUSLY she is a precious little bean who would never or be in trouble with the law despite her want for revenge. OBVIOUSLY they were always gonna get together. It never felt like anything was at stake, and the whole DLC was just too formulaic that it was a turn-off.
Despite flashbacks to fill us in on Kaito and Mikiko, the chemistry just didn't feel there and I wasn't cheering when they got back together to... what, all live in his shitty apartment? It wasn't Tak/Mafuyu levels of bad (I just never really felt much interest on Tak's side, and he even said he thinks of Mafuyu as a sister, though it could be how I answered Saori's questions. So Saori and Mafuyu going off about it otherwise just got mind-numbing when there was a definitely lack of chemistry and I didn't understand the game trying to push it), but it just seemed so fast? PLUS the trauma of evil dad is just gone? Like, slow down. With how much time passed and how much Kaito and Mikiko changed, it would've made more sense if they took it slow and got to know each other again. But... y'know, the fans TRULY want things as cliche and trope-ridden as possible. Yes, that is what we fans of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have come to enjoy.
Idk, just seemed like a real crime of a DLC, and DEFINITELY not worth $30. I got it for free for buying the Judgment and Lost Judgment bundle on Steam, and I'm glad because paying money for it would've just felt like a waste. Kaito's fighting was fun, the sniffing part was... fine? I didn't care enough to sniff out memories because I just wanted to get it all over with, truth be told.
The BEST part of the DLC was obviously Higashi in that apron. He's the true hero of the DLC in my book.

Anime Recommendations!
Hi everyone, I hope y’all are safe and happy! With quarantine still in place (at least in my country), I’m gonna keep the random rec lists coming! I’ve been watching a lotttt of animes and rewatching favourites, so I thought I’d share some of my favourites of all time! A lot of them are pretty mainstream, but for my friends who aren’t really into anime, these will get you hooked! In no particular order, let’s get started!
1. Snow White with the Red Hair, 24 episodes
Tumblr media
This is hands down my favourite anime of all time. This shoujo anime make me feel so happy and it’s so wholesome, honestly such a feel good anime. Without spoiling too much, it’s about a herbalist named Shirayuki who ends up having to flee her home country and ends up meeting Prince Zen and goes to live in his country. The cast of characters in the anime is so good, there’s not a character to dislike. The genuine build up of friendship and eventual romance is just so sweet please watch.
2. Demon slayer (26 episodes)
Tumblr media
One of the best anime I’ve watched this past year. This anime has amazing plot, awesome animation and a great cast of characters. This anime follows Tanjiro as he becomes a demon slayer after a demon killed his family. Tanjiro and his sister, Nezuko were the only survivors but Nezuko was turned in a demon and now Tanjiro is on a journey to change he back into a human. If you are into anime with amazing fight scenes, I highly recommend.
3. Hunter x Hunter (148 episodes)
Tumblr media
I am currently watching this anime and it honestly made it onto my lists of favourite anime super quickly. The series starts with Gon and his quest to become a pro hunter and find his dad and goes on from there. With so many episodes and arcs, you can’t stop watching. The characters immediately hooked me on this show, Killua and Gon’s friendship is one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen in anime, I literally want to adopt both of them. This anime is so heartwarming but also kinda dark and action packed.
4. Haikyuu!! (73 episodes, on-going)
Tumblr media
My favourite sports anime my god. Haikyuu follows a high school volleyball team as they try to make it to nationals. This series made me so much more emotional than I thought it would, but you get so involved with the team and characters and want them to succeed. All of the characters from all of the teams are also fantastic and hilarious. If you need a fun but exciting anime, please please please watch Haikyuu!!
5. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (64 episodes)
Tumblr media
Where to even begin. I would say this is one of the most popular anime and for good freaking reason. Without giving too much away, this anime follows brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric as they go on a quest to get their bodies back. Honestly this is one of my fav animes, if you like awesome fight scenes and really intriguing plot, you will love this anime.
6. Yona of the Dawn (24 episodes)
Tumblr media
Another amazing anime but sadly, unfinished. I think this anime is best to watch w/o knowing very much. Just know that there is really good characters and character development and a very attractive love interest :))))
7. Soul eater (51 episodes)
Tumblr media
One of the first animes I ever watched and as I remember it’s hella awesome, if you like halloween then the whole atmosphere of this anime will intrigue you. The fight scenes in this are really fun and so are the characters. If you need a fun medium length anime, I would recommend this one!
8. Inuyasha (193 episodes)
Tumblr media
This anime is worth all the hype in my opinion. The plot was great, the characters are fantastic and romance is so freaking cute I can’t. I’m also a sucker for asshole characters who are secretly really sweet.
9. Fruits Basket (2019) (25 episodes (S1), S2 on-going)
Tumblr media
This is the cutest anime. The whole cast characters is amazing and you get so attached so fast. The protagonist is so sweet and optimistic and I really just wanna protect her. I went into this knowing next nothing and I think that’s the best way to do it. The 2001 version is good too but 2019 has better animation and is closer to managa (and has more episodes!).
10. My Hero Academia (88 episodes, on-going)
Tumblr media
I love this anime with my whole heart. There is an adorable cast of characters and amazing fight scenes, I love this sm. It’s set in a world where like 95% of the population has ‘quirks’ which are basically super powers but not all of them are super powerful. Super heroes protect cities and the anime follows a high school where the students are training to become heroes. The main character is born without a quirk but through some crazy circumstances he ends up acquiring one. In my opinion this anime is worth the hype.
11. Ouran Highschool Host Club (26 episodes)
Tumblr media
This one is wild. Ouran Highschool Host club is so iconic and it’s hilarious, I laughed out loud watching this one so much. Honestly I went into this knowing nothing and I think its funnier that way.
12. Yuri!!! On Ice (13 episodes)
Tumblr media
THIS ANIME. The first sports anime w/ canon LGBTQ+ romance and its beautiful. I love the style, the skating, the music, the characters, just everything about it. This follows Yuri Katsuki, a professional figure skater from Japan and his skating career. After messing up a major championship, Yuri is lost and doesn’t know what to do w/ his career. After seeing a video of Yuri skate, his idol Victor, a skating legend, shows up to be his coach. Please watch this anime.
13. Attack on Titan (62 episodes, on-going)
Tumblr media
If you are looking for a badass action anime this is the one for you. Humanity has fallen to the mercy of giant man-eating titans, and the people that survived live within a walled city to keep the titans out. This anime is a little disturbing and violent but it is so badass. Also Levi, the most badass character ever, makes this entire anime worth watching.
14. Ao Haru Ride (12 episodes)
Tumblr media
Hands down my favourite romance anime. This anime is so freaking cute and it gave me so many fuzzy feelings. The animation is also super nice so that is always a plus. It follows Futaba and Kou who liked each other in middle school but were separated. They meet again in high school but they have both changed so much. If you want a romance anime I really recommend this one.
15. Naruto (720 episodes)
Tumblr media
This is a freaking classic and really long. Almost everyone and their mother has heard of this anime or watched some of it before. Basically its about ninjas and follows mainly Naruto Uzumaki who want to eventually be the leader of his village but his ninja skills need a lot of work. I honestly didn’t think I would love this anime as much as I did but its just so good. It is a very big commitment to finish though so be prepared.
16. Your Lie in April (22 episodes)
Tumblr media
Well this anime is literally beautiful. It is centered around 2 teens w/ major musical talent. It gets deep very fast but its also light hearted and wholesome. This anime made me cry like a baby so get your tissues ready.

More k-dramas y'all should watch
So, at the end of 2017, I created a post going through my favourite dramas of all time. Obviously, I have watched more dramas since then so I have a few more dramas that everyone needs to watch!!
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
Tumblr media
This is an obvious one, so if you haven't watched it, have you been living under a rock?? When I first heard of it just before it came out, I thought it was going to be a rip off of weightlifting fairy Kim bok joo. But boy, was I wrong!! This drama has the perfect amount of romance, comedy, thriller and crime, so it is a good all rounder drama!! The whole cast (not just the leads) had amazing chemistry. The only flaw with this drama is that it does queerbait a little. I wish they either didn't add it in the story or fully went with that the main lead is Bi.
The story surrounds a girl with superhuman strength who wants to be a video game designer. She has always hid her strength due to fear if hurting others and losing her power. She in a unrequited love with her childhood friend who is now a police officer. She then crosses the path of a CEO of a video game company and her starts to become more chaotic. With a serial killer on the loose, Do Bong Soon needs to decide if she will keep a low profile or use her powers for the better good while also falling in love on the way.
While You Were Sleeping
Tumblr media
Again, an obvious one, but it has to be watched!! Like strong woman, I was a little apprehensive of this one. Mainly because I hadn't heard good things about Suzy's acting before this came out. But it really surprised me and I really loved it! I'm a sucker for anything crime related, so with a really cute love story as well, it was amazing!! It has really good chemistry and likable characters. The second male lead is also amazing!! I usually don't get second male lead syndrome, but damn I felt it even though I also really loved the main lead. I can't really find any faults with it.
The story surrounds two people who can see the future through dreaming. This includes good and bad things. When the female reporter about dying while on the job, she quite her job to try and changes her fate. A prosecuter move across the street from her, initially they do not get on and their bond starts to grow. Together, they use both of their skills and their power to help change the future and solve crimes along the way. They also soon realise that this is not the first time they have crossed paths.
Psychopath Diary
Tumblr media
I cannot recommend this drama enough!! Honestly, it is so underrated!!! Yoon Shi Yoon's performance is incredible, he really embodies the role here. It is so funny, and sweet. You also see a serial killer low key but high key fall in love with the male lead, so there is major gay vibes. The only issue I have with it is, I wish there was a little romance involved. But it is a not a major want.
The story surrounds a pushover who is working at a stocks company. After a major issue arises, he becomes the Scapegoat of the company and is being blamed for it, even though he tried to prevent it. Due to this, he decides that he will end his life. On the way to do this, he witnesses a murder and accidentally picks up the serial killer's diary. While trying to escape, he gets hit by a car and gets amnesia. When he wakes up and reads the diary, he believes that he is the serial killer.
Honestly, please watch this drama, it is so so so funny, the chemistry of the whole cast is incredible. It also possibly has one of my favourite villians in any drama.
Your Honor / Dear Judge
Tumblr media
Yes, I am a simp Yoon Shi Yoon. He is just so good and thus role just confirms it! His acting is incredible, king of the double roles! He plays twins and you really tell when either pop up on screen which one he is. This is a really wholesome drama that makes you cry. It has some really sweet moments in it, the leads have such good chemistry. This only issues with this one is that the ending felt rushed. I hate that the TV company changed it from 20 eps to 16 eps.
The story follows a set of twins. Twin A is a top judge in Korea, who is incredibly smart and is living a rich life. Twin B is a criminal who has been screwed over multiple times by the justice system and Twin A. Their mother always sides with A and will tell B not to bother him. When A goes missing, B goes undercover and takes his brothers place. He soon learns about the corrupt world of the court system and his brother. B meets a law student who is meant to be shadowing A. Like B, she has also been affected by the corrupt system and is wanting to be a judge to convict those who have wronged her. Together they fight the system while also falling in love.
Because This is Our First Life
Tumblr media
This is a slice of life drama so will have some heavy moments in it. But on the whole, it is just so lovely and cute. The acting is incredible, they really take on the role. It also has one of the best female friendships which is not toxic, they all genuinely care for eachother and want eachother to achieve their dreams. It also has some true badass moments in it as well! I feel like all slice of life dramas have this, but it does have some frustrating moments where the characters are almost purposely making their life's difficult
The story focuses on a woman who is a drama script writer. Due to her patriarchal family who always favour her brother and being let down by her crush, she wants to move out. She ends up moving in with a friend of a friend of a friend. It is to her surprise that the person who she is moving in with is a man who is very much stuck in his own ways and likes to stick to routine. Due to their own desires to be on their own, they decide to get married to relieve the pressure that their families are giving them. This (of course) causes issues and both have to learn about their new feelings for eachother while trying to get through the struggles of life.
Thirty but Seventeen
Tumblr media
This drama is the definition of wholesome and cute. I feel that while I was watching it, it went by so quickly and I always had a smile on my face. The romance is so cute and lovely and you could tell they really cared about eachother. The side characters were also amazing and sweet. Honestly, the acting is incredible. The female lead does an amazing job.
The story follows woman who as a child was involved in a bus accident and fell into a coma. She wakes up over ten years later and learns that her family have stopped coming to see her. While on the search for her family, she resides with a man and his brother who are now living in her old family home. The two soon learn that there are more connected than they thought. With the man trying to push her away, the more his feelings grow for her.
Introverted Boss
Tumblr media
This is a revenge to love story. It on the whole is a really cute drama where you get to see the leads grow for the better. The acting is incredible and you really fall in love with the leads and the support cast (except for the second lead). It is not a perfect drama, but it is a really easy watch with an interesting story.
The female lead is a stage actress who quits her job to work at a marketing firm. This firm happens to be where her sister used to work. She is out to get revenge against the CEO of the company who she blames for her sister's death. She learns that the CEO is extremely introverted and becomes confused by how he was responsible for her sister's death. As the story goes by, she becomes more intrigued by him and focuses less on revenge and more on helping him open up.
Vincenzo
Tumblr media
Ahhhhh, how do express my love for this one!! It is just amazing!! The story was so well thought out and the actors did a fantastic job. It was so satisfying to watch, I wanted to be a member of the mafia lol. The villians were also incredible, like I just love this drama so much. Like Your Honor, the only issue with this one is that the ending felt rushed.
The story surrounds a Korean man who was adopted into an Italian family and became the consiglerie of the mafia. After an issue with his adoptive family, he travels back to Korea in search an insane amount of gold bars which happens to be underneath an unsuspecting block of flats. He then gets involved with a major legal court case with a pharmaceutical company. As he delves deeper into the case, dark secrets start to get revealed.

The ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest 3-D: Entry Roundup
You’ve been patiently waiting for the results of the ATOM Create a Kaiju Contest 3-D, and now... you have to wait a bit longer, but at least you’ve got an entry roundup with lots of sketches and a good bit of feedback for all the entrants!  My goal is to get the finalists illustrated in a week or two, and after that, the grand prize winner will be announced.  But, for now, the official entry roundup!  After the cut:
I should note that while I sketched these in the order they were submitted, my scanner saved the documents with random names, so they’re a bit jumbled.  You know, just in case you’re like me and would get confused noticing that it’s almost in chronological order but with some entries jumbled around.
Tumblr media
@bugcthulhu’s Obsideban was designed as a counterpart to Rohobaron - the Black King to Rohobaron’s Red King, if you will.  Or, well, Black Queen in this case, as Obsideban also takes her personality from the “delinquent girl” archetype in Japanese media.  Bug’s designs always ooze personality, and I had a lot of fun translating this big, gnarly retrosaur into my own style.
Tumblr media
@toothlessloveshiccup‘s Argonox is the first - but far from the last - monster in this breakdown that brings in a bit of fantasy influence to ATOM’s roster.  A golden-fleeced ram with a vicious streak, this sheep is both treasure and dragon at once.  And while it wasn’t written in the monster’s profile, given the Yamaneon-rich nature of its wool, Argonox might be able to replicate the healing power of the golden fleece too!  A very fun mammalian kaiju and excellent entry.
Tumblr media
@highly-radioactive-nerd submitted Gunmetal Jeeves, a robot butler who can gigantomax temporarily create a holographic/hard light version of himself to fight kaiju.  That detail was a late revision added to the entry before the contest’s deadline, made after the creator realized that ATOM allows for some truly ludicrous bullshit, which is something everyone should exploit when making entries for this in my opinion.  Also, this is a robot butler who can size shift.  Revel in its awesome absurdity!
Tumblr media
Ultranerd submitted Rajasaurus, a dimetrodon-like synapsid kaiju with electric powers.  His origin specifies that the electric powers are a result of the volatile nature of the Yamaneon deposits he mutated under, which is an interesting idea.  That’s another theme that cropped up a lot in this contest’s entries, actually - people really wanted to play with what Yamaneon can do.
Tumblr media
Case in point, @polygonfighter’s Yamaneolith takes the Monolith Monsters homage at the heart of Yamaneon even more apparent.  I like the implication that there is a second mineral-based lifeform at the root of this Yamaneon cluster’s anomalous behavior - a parasite, perhaps?  It brings up some interesting possibilities.
Tumblr media
@ariccio50 submitted Kukulkuzana, and damn is this a cool spin on the body plan of my martians.  I made a few changes here and there (splitting its tail into two is probably the biggest one), but tried to keep true to the original design, because holy hell is it gorgeous.  The idea that this is a mountain-dwelling creature is really intriguing to me, as it looks like a sea creature, but at the same time, that flexible and low-slung build WOULD work pretty well in mountains, and it’s just the right mix of plausible weirdness that makes for a fun alien design.
Tumblr media
@akitymh submitted Aramzados, a Venusian monster that’s basically an organic hot rod car.  I like the idea of organic machinery being the gimmick for Venusian kaiju, and Aramzado’s does it subtly enough to not feel like that gimmick is the sole thing going for it.  I especially love this monster’s stange, apparently mouth-less blade-beaked face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@virovac submitted Rurzar and Zar Rider, a Beyonder kaiju and mecha (respecitvely) that were both modified and repurposed by humans reverse engineering Beyonder technology to make, like, a motorcycle-saurus essentially.  It is a delightfully absurd concept, and a very, very detailed one (13 pages of description).  There’s a dark undercurrent beneath the sillyness, though, as this pair show that humanity might still be following the same path as the Beyonders before them.
Tumblr media
@dinosaurana brings us Krangor, a humanoid monstrosity of living kelp!  The goal here was to create a Jack Kirby-esque monster dude, complete with the gibberish name and all.  He’s also made out of kelp, which feels very classic 1950′s monster-y despite me not being able to think of any monsters that were explicitly made of kelp.  I love him.
Tumblr media
@kiryuthechimera submitted Genkakurah, a psychic retrosaur with some draconic features.  Though his substantial powerset is probably the biggest distinguishing feature of this kaiju (given that most ATOM kaiju pretty much have the same standard powers), what really draws me to him is that reptilian pseudo-beard.  It’s just a fun detail!
Tumblr media
@glarnboudin submits Tiratola, and see, there’s that fantasy influence again!  Even more explicitly dragon-y than Kraydi, Tiratola still manages to toe the line between sci-fi and fantasy enough to fit ATOM as is while still cementing its ties to my own slice of fantasy fiction.  Man it’s good I’m doing a Midgaheim book next, huh?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@dragonzzilla submitted Scuttlebutt/Argonautilus, a hermit crab kaiju who lives in/with a hollowed out mecha.  That’s a twist I can’t recall ever hearing before, and the idea of a kaiju and a mecha having an equal partnership that doesn’t involve one being grafted to the other is really intriguing to me.  A very unique concept!
Tumblr media
@evolutionsvoid submitted Fleagor, an enormous flea who has no idea what to do with itself now that there’s no creature large enough for it to parasitize.  I love that concept - it takes the core idea of the giant bug kaiju archetype (i.e. unsettling the audience by showing how terrifying small, “insignificant” creatures would be if our sizes were reversed) and really turns it on its head.  The name also plays on the Universal Monsters, who were a huge part of 1950′s pop culture thanks to their movies being re-released in that era, so all and all this one is very on brand for ATOM!
Tumblr media
@skarmorysilver submitted Lilacorn, another entry that plays up that Midgaheim/ATOM connection.  Reinterpreting the mythological unicorn as an Cenozoic wooly rhinoceros-inspired monster gives it a very unique look, both in ATOM and in the general world of unicorns, and she has a bad-girl with a heart of gold personality to boot!
Tumblr media
dracosaurus-rex submitted Florasaura, a two-headed plant/retrosaur hybrid monster.  I love me some plant monsters, I love me some retrosaurs, and I love me some rhyming the word “flora” with other words that contain similar vowell sounds, so this one has me written all over it!
Tumblr media
@downtofragglerock submitted Sauroguana, a delightfully odd flying retrosaur.  There’s a great deal of charm to the original illustration that this sketch doesn’t quite capture - it’s a deceptively simple design with a lot of personality in it, and with those unique leg-wings it really doesn’t need a whole lot of frills to stand out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Draxi submitted Brakan, an unimpressive burrowing retrosaur kaiju whose mastery of illusions allows it to convince other kaiju it’s actually a big, super-powerful badass that’s the ultimate fighter in the universe.  It’s a delightful parody of the concept of a fan self-insert god-mode character, with a really fun story built into it to boot!
Tumblr media
@quinnred submitted O.N.I.A.C., a mysterious cocooned kaiju whose chrysalis has been turned into an organic computer of sorts by the people studying it, and seems to possess a fairly advanced intelligence for a kaiju.  It’s a really bizarre and ominous idea, with built in intrigue given how vague its nature is.  Is it just a kaijufied butterfly/moth who got stuck mid transformation?  A relative of the Mothmanuds?  Something else, perhaps equally alien?  Good story potential here.
Tumblr media
shadyserpent submitted Vespilitor, a bat/retrosaur hybrid made by the nefarious Spooks Organization.  A mercurial prankster whose tendency to stir up trouble never crosses the line into maliciousness, he’s the kind of monster who would make a great foil to a lot of ATOM’s cast.  I’d especially like to see him in a prank off with Ahuul - it’d be like Bugs Bunny fighting Daffy Duck, but on a kaiju scale.
Tumblr media
@multiversefan submitted the Yamaneon King, a nomadic kaiju whose refusal to settle down causes problems as he stirs up trouble at kaiju sanctuaries all over the globe by showing up unannounced and stirring up the locals.  He was basically designed to be a monster that the kaiju sanctuary initiative would struggle to deal with, which is a good idea for a post-ATOM Volume 2 story conflict.
Tumblr media
Sir K submitted Jadeera, a kirin kaiju that can actually forcibly convert most of its body to Yamaneon to enter a dormant, statue-like state in a loose homage to King Shisa.  Though the fantasy elements are far more present than I usually prefer for ATOM kaiju, I think it should be noted they’re pushed that far for a purpose - a theme in Jadeera’s entry, which continues where its creator left off with their submission to the previous ATOM create a kaiju contest (Yokaigon), is that the world of kaiju is more complicated and challenging than many are willing to accept, which is a theme in ATOM itself.  Yokaigon’s more supernatural/occult powers are based on the ghost parascience of my setting, which ATOM has delved into a bit (Pathogen being the big example), so it’s not as out of left field as some might think.
Tumblr media
@cerothenull brings us our final entry (unless some got lost thanks to tumblr’s shitty tagging system), the flying spider Naeranti.  She’s a kaiju spider who uses silk to make complicate hot-air balloons, more or less, and that’s just delightful.  ATOM could always use more spider-monsters, and with a really unique gimmick backing up a wonderfully distinct look, Naeranti is sure to stand out among her fellow giant arachnids.
Well, that’s the roundup!  In a week (or two, depending on how much my hand cramps) we’ll have the five finalists, and sometime after that, the grand prize winner!

Drarry for Beginners: Creature fics
Vampire
In The Red by @bixgirl1 (2018, E, 45k)
When Harry goes looking for a vampire at a Creature club, the second-to-last thing Harry expects is to find Malfoy working there. The last thing he expects is to fall in love with him.
There’s no better word to describe this fic than luscious. Get your body ready for a gorgeous, sexy and bittersweet love story. @bixgirl1 is hands down one of the most talented Drarry authors out there and what she did with the vampire trope here is just amazing. The plot combines complex characters, interesting lore and the most satisfying combo of fast sexual burn and slow emotional development. The chemistry between Draco and Harry is off the charts - complicated sexual tension, confident badass characters and fabulous dialogue balancing the dirtiest talk with the softest yearning. The scenes involving blood drinking are striking and made me salivate despite the fact that I’ve never really cared about this trope in general - that’s how captivating this fic is! And Harry’s arc is so amazing, I really like the final twist that puts him and Draco on a more equal footing. The exquisite narrative, clever plot and sexy times are the perfect way to get seduced into this trope. Come and bask in this juicy and decadent atmosphere!
Veela
Soup-pocalypse and The Great Curry Cataclysm by SquadOfCats (2018, E, 104k)
Eleven years after the war, Draco Malfoy leads a quiet, boring, and perfectly respectable life, thanks very much. Or, at least he does, until a sudden and very unexpected veela awakening causes him to throw soup all over Harry Potter in the middle of the Ministry cafeteria.
I chose this fic early on and kept questioning myself because there are so many great Veela fics out there; but seeing now how most of my other picks are more on the angst side, I’m really happy with my choice as I think it will be quite the refreshing ride. There’s no doubt among Drarry fans that this is one of the greatest, funniest, most endearing Veela stories out there. By the time it was published I wasn’t really into this trope anymore but it still manages to pull me back whenever I need a light-hearted, comforting love story to unwind. Draco’s voice is hysterical and such a joy to read - he’s panicked, chaotic devotion and Harry and I can’t help but find it so charming. The food courting is definitely the highlight here, creative and really fun to read despite Draco’s utter humiliation and Harry’s confused resistance. Then again this is a 100k fic and I love how the author took the time to not only develop their single arcs and relationship, but also to shine light on amazing side characters like Lavender, Teddy, Mipsy. All interactions are great and help creating such lovely “found family” vibes, with a nice twist away from the fuck-or-die scenario I usually see for this trope. Here all characters are given room to struggle with their post-war traumas and grow in the most thoughtful and cathartic way, and I really appreciate it!
Werewolf
Who we are in the shadows by @quicksilvermaid (2019, E, 99k)
What happens when you’re forced to become the very thing you despise? Ex-Auror Harry Potter, tossed out of the Ministry for something he had no control over, has been looking for a way back to his former life. When he comes across Draco Malfoy in the criminal underbelly of Wizarding London and in need of protection, Harry figures bringing him in to face the Ministry's justice is his ticket back to everything he's lost.
I know I’m not speaking only for myself when I say that this is THE werewolf fic. This glorious masterpiece is what finally pulled me back into Drarry last year, when I was 100% dedicated to another fandom. My jaw literally dropped as I watched in awe the brilliant and intriguing plot revealing itself - there’s a dark and mysterious investigation, breathtaking sexual tension and Harry’s devastating inner battle towards self-forgiveness, healing and acceptance. His loyalty towards Teddy is so touching it broke my heart a bit. It’s fascinating to notice how these boys ooze competence on the job while struggling under the surface. The possessive pining and scorching hot smut are a fantastic bonus and set the perfect mood for this fic, intense, hungry and captivating. Draco is a brilliant and interesting character; his arc and career choice are one of my fave takes since reading “The Boy Who Only Lived Twice” by lettered, which tells you just how genius this is. A deliciously mature and atmospheric healing story, with a gorgeous ending full of hope and understanding. I’d give anything to obliviate myself and experience it for the first time once again 💗
Bonus
There Is Always the Moon by @firethesound (2016, T, 159k)
Draco's life after the war is everything he wanted it to be: it's simple, and quiet, and predictable, and safe. But when a mysterious curse shatters the peace he'd worked so hard to build, there's only one person he can trust to help him. After all, Harry Potter has saved his life before. Now Draco has to believe that Potter will be able to do it one more time. (A remix of If the Sun Goes Black by pasdexcuses)
If fake dating doesn’t come with this glorious amount of world building and an intriguing mystery, what is even the point? I’m not big on creature fics but wow, @firethesound creates a gripping and lovely universe that worms its way inside your heart. This is A+++ storytelling with charming mundane moments, the slowest of burns and a carefully crafted, detailed plot. I love how the initial slice of life becomes a case fic mixed with sweet pining and domesticity. Their voices are fantastic and it’s a delight to follow sassy Harry and oblivious Draco pulling off a fake dating heist while investigating the mystery haunting Draco’s life. We see how their relationship matures over time, the slow realization of changing feelings, the doubts and heartbreak and wonder of being loved in return. Their married life is tender and soft, and my favorite bits are the small things: their birthday gifts to each other, the contingency plans and all the meta jokes such as Draco not speaking French for once lol. This story takes a bittersweet turn towards the end so brace yourself for some angsty times - I promise a worthy ride and a hopeful ending!

if youre still doing the character thing, how about spirit or marie?
I sure am. How about Spirit And Marie? Both wonderful characters. I’ll do Marie first, then Spirit. Thanks for the excuse to infodump, really. You people are too kind.
Marie Mjolnir
My first impression of Marie was the same impression I get of most female characters in anime. It’s either “why do their clothes have to look like that” or “oh god here comes the obligatory sexist heteronormative romance”. For Marie, it was more of the second. They mention in the same episode she’s introduced that Stein is her “first love”, which told me that if she had a large place in the plot, her assigned male counterpart around which to orbit would be him. Though I’ve never read the Soul Eater manga, I believe they do end up getting together there (I could be wrong). Whatever the case, I was relieved that Marie’s and Stein’s relationship (though heavily implied to be romantic, at least on Marie’s side) was left open to interpretation in the anime. I’m just very sick of cool badass female characters like Marie being reduced to the man they pine after. So, I guess my first impression of Marie and my impression of her now are largely the same. While I appreciate the moments we get to see her strengths and ability to operate on her own, I do think that her character really suffers because of the whole sexist “oh gosh all I want is to find a husband and retire” “oh my I have to take care of Stein” like okay, I had enough at the cat girl smothering Soul with her humungo-tits. I had enough at sexualizing underage girls and women in general. I had enough at making sexual harassment a punchline. That being said, when we push all of the shitty writing to the side, I admire Marie for her strength and how she interacts with the children, Crona in particular. Which leads me to my favorite moment(s).
The relationship Crona and Marie have interests me the most, since I’m really drawn to the parallels between Marie and Medusa. As parental figures (and as characters), they’re about as different as you can get. As Crona’s mother, Medusa is obviously abusive. Along with being negligent, she abuses Crona mentally, emotionally, and physically. In general, Medusa is a person who doesn’t appear to value interpersonal relationships, putting it nicely. She instead is more focused on her own interests, often to the detriment of those around her. Crona is Medusa’s only immediate family (besides Arachne who she is estranged from), and so they suffer the most from her refusal to show even a shred of human decency or warmth. They suffer especially because they are her child, meaning they’re stuck with her essentially, and repetivie abuse between family members like a mother and child often becomes complex because of the necessity of having a parental figure in your life to support you as you grow up. Medusa teaches Crona that their boundaries don’t matter and that they are only good as long as they are useful and do as they’re told. This is what makes Marie’s influence on Crona so cool to watch. Marie is caring by nature, loving and nurturing by nature. Her very wavelegnth is healing. She is kind and does what’s right reflexively. Marie is the exact embodiment of what Crona always needed but what, even upon being rescued by the academy, still felt so foreign to them: unconditional love. Crona struggles to understand why the other kids helped them, why Maka felt the inclination to stop their battle and save Crona instead by trying to understand them, why the kids are still so kind to them even after everything. They do not understand that love is not a bargaining chip. It isn’t leverage in an argument. It’s not a tool for emotional manipulation. Love is caring for the people close to you, just because. Love for the sake of love. The other kids and teachers at the academy are the ones who are able to pull Crona out of all Medusa’s lies, and Marie is a Huge part of that. Even though I have greivances with this being the largest part of her character and what that implies for female characters in general, it doesn’t stop being so beautiful to me that she could help Crona heal in this way. Marie = best mom for the win
Most of the story ideas I have for Marie involve her relationship with Crona or Stein. Say, this covers my unpopular opinion too. I don’t like Stein and Marie as a couple, but I really enjoy writing them as friends, because even though I don’t really jive with them being together romantically, I think their dynamic is an interesting one to explore because they Are so different.
Getting into that a little bit more, I’d like to start by saying I don’t care if other people like Stein and Marie being a couple. That’s great doods, keep doing you. The fanart’s adorable, the meta’s fantastic. Whoever you are, SteinMarie shippers, ffs keep kicking ASS. This is just my preference and opinion. Zero shade in this house. That said, because of my frustrations about Marie’s character I discussed in the first paragraph, I don’t like the idea of her and Stein being together romantically. It’s really a classic sexist trope: the troubled man and his sweet nurse. I’m also just fed up in general with the hetero-nonsense, so there. However, they are both wonderful characters that I enjoy very much seperately. Also, I think it’s worth mentioning that I’ve only seen the anime, so I can’t speak for the manga as far as their relationship or Marie’s character in general.
Oh shit I accidentally already talked about this one lmao [see the second paragraph]
One headcanon I like to think about when I’m writing Marie is that she likes women (in addition to men or not) and she struggles with comphet. Just something interesting I like to think about. It’s really fun for me to take characters who have been written as pining or had 10 million failed relationships and be like “say what if they can’t find a husband cuz really what they really need is a wife”. I’ll talk about that more with Spirit inevitably.
Spirit Albarn
My first impression of Spirit, obviously him being a cheater, really came with a lot of distaste. I come from a family that was torn apart by infidelity, among other things, so it really rubs me the wrong way. However, his saving grace for me was that he genuinely loves his daughter. It appears that, whether it’s played for laughs or not, he just can’t find fulfillment in his romantic relationships. The reason is left up to the veiwers. Spirit, ultimately, is not just a shitty person, which is how most cheaters are protrayed in media. “Well, they cheated because they don’t care if they hurt people”, “they cheated because they are shit and that’s it”. That’s a fine explanation if you plan to do nothing with whatever character you’re describing, but Spirit is relatively recurring and is shown to be neither mean-spirited or emotionally unintelligent. It bothers me that his cheating and routine sexist behaviour isn’t taken seriously enough to be a subject that Soul Eater tackles and deals with. But that’s fine. I’ll just do it myself. At any rate, I still feel that same way about Spirit’s character, but I find it intriguing that he seems to genuinely want to become a better father and is actually a pretty good dad when it comes to his interactions with Maka. If Soul Eater had been brave enough to develop him more, maybe delve into the reasoning behind his impulsive romantic affairs, I think Spirit as a character could have been done more justice. It seems to me that he could be suffering from some of that wonderful compulsory heterosexuality that I mentioned before, then becoming confused when the woman he claims to love leaves him feeling empty. Rattling my gay little cage
When I think of my favorite moments with Spirit, I think of his moments with Maka, but I’m gonna hold off on that until I get to favorite relationship(s). In reference to what I talked about in the first paragraph, one moment I find really interesting when I’m thinking about my interpretation of Spirit’s character is the scene where he and Maka are on the roof talking. Maka asks Spirit why he cheated on her mother if he did, in fact, love her. He doesn’t appear to know the answer, and he doesn’t really understand how to effectively communicate that, though he was shitty husband, what he really wants now is to try and be a better dad. We hear his inner monologue, and he says something like “I love you [Maka] and your mama. That’s the truth. That’s the truth. That’s the truth.” Every time he says “its the truth” it sounds more like he’s forcing it. This is actually something that is SO strange to me. Even if I didn’t project a queer narrative on to the characters I love, I would look at this and be like “huh that is a Weird thing to say in that specific way”. Why does he say it like that? Why does he have to say it more than once? He’s only talking to HIMSELF. It isn’t like he’s trying to convince Maka. Why does he have to convince himself?? Could it possibly be because he’s reached a conclusion about his romantic/sexual orientation that he’s been trying to swallow his Entire Life??? makes ya wonder, doesn’t it, queers?
Just like I said when I talked about Stein, most of the stories I have in mind with Spirit center around that sweet gayness. But also, I like to think of ways Spirit could come to terms with his sexuality, how it might have affected him when he was young, his relationship with all these women, with his wife. I love to think about him being a dad at 18 and trying his best, but how much responsibility that must have been. Lots of great ideas when it comes to Spirit.
Um? unpopular opinion would be all the standard like I said with Stein lmao. “Oh no!” scream the heteros, “that they/them on tumblr is making Soul Eater queer we canst not allow that in our church!!!111!” But besides that, maybe even the fact that I think he’s redeemable?? Idk most everyone I’ve met thinks Spirit is funny at least and just calls him a dumbass and a slut (affectionate). Doesn’t mean anybody thinks cheating on your wife 56 times is okay so. I like this fandom, it’s chill here. My favorite is when I see my art tagged like “aw the stupid man and his crazy bf” like YOU ARE RIGHT
My favorite relationship when it comes to Spirit (besides Stein cuz if I start talking about them again I’ll never finish this ask) is the one he has with Maka. If you can call it a relationship lol. I guess I just find Spirit’s approach to Maka as a parent really refreshing. Not that the parents in other shows don’t love their kids or whatever, it’s just that the loving parent always seems to be paired with some other trope that makes their character hard to approach. especially in anime. Like the perfect mother who dies in the first episode, and we spend the rest of the show mourning her. Or the father whose love is somehow everlasting even though he’s never home. It’s really the fact that Spirit is even THERE that I love. He knows what Maka is up to. He talks about her. He’s invested in her life, and he loves her. All he wants is to spend time with her, and though he’s sad when she turns him down, he doesn’t push her. god dammit I just like a dad who actually loves his kids without all the usual strings attached like. oh my kids are a huge pain in my ass, but I love them in spite of it. oh i’m a man so can’t relate to my children in a meaningful way but i try. Get the fuck outta here with that shit. I want all the dads to get so happy when their daughters wanna hang with them that they throw up like Spirit. Give me the guy who loves his daughter so naturally, whose daughter is such a huge part of his life, that it doesn’t even occur to him stop trying even if she literally wants to murder him. That’s Spirit. jfc
To end with a cute little headcanon, I really love to think that when Spirit gets older and starts losing the color in his hair, instead of getting white or grey, his hair turns a pale pink color cuz he’s such an aggressive redhead. Wouldn’t that just be adorable? late 30′s, early 40′s, Spirit starts getting little pink streaks in his hair and then bam. Little pink old man Spirit XD
There ya have it. Thanks for the ask, and feel free to send more.

The Rookie/Chenford 3x03 Thoughts
This episode of The Rookie was really well done. It was important, and I felt like the show really worked hard to tackle a lot of important topics. I’m not going to go in depth into those, but I’m very intrigued to see how the show tackles the upcoming episodes.
That being said, a few small things I loved and a few things I still need addressed this season:
LOVED:
Harper asking about Tim’s “performance anxiety.” “There are pills for that, you know.” Nyla Harper is my third favorite character (obviously after Tim and Lucy) and she proved that about nine thousand times tonight, starting with this amazing, kind of crass joke that made me laugh out loud. I love that they seem to genuinely respect and like each other. She is wonderful. She steals the scene every single time, she makes me like Nolan more, and she’s badass. And Tim losing first to Lopez for four years, and then to HIS ROOKIE was amazing. It’ll probably keep him up at night, and turn him on, so. That’s something I’m not going to stop thinking about.
“Get changed.” “Yes, sir.” Every single second of this little scene was perfection. From Tim’s tone of voice to Lucy’s flirty head tilt. I yelled about this on Twitter, but it was basically straight up porn and now I need it in an entirely different context.
“Bad puppy.” Eric Winter is KILLING IT this season, looks wise and attitude wise. It’s like somehow he’s made Bradford even more attractive, and I really, truly was not aware that was possible. His expressions and tone, especially around Lucy, are just top notch this season. And their height difference was on full display this episode, so thanks for that. I desperately needed an end scene for Tim and Lucy to calm the little disagreement of sorts they had, but I also think it said a lot about their relationship that it didn’t necessarily feel needed - they can call each other on their stuff and be a little angry but still be okay. (Although last episode left me needing an ending scene with them, too, so I’m a little disappointed.) In my ideal world, he would have walked out as Tamara and Lucy were talking and Lucy would have (easily) badgered him into buying both her and Tamara dinner and then checking on Tamara’s living situation with her.
“I stand with him.” I don’t fully believe Lucy is entirely responsible for this, because no matter how soft he may be for her, Tim is still his own man and he isn’t that easily swayed. So this was him, knowing he needed to reevaluate, and her helping him finally realize now is the time. And as a side note, I’m obsessed with him calling West Jackson a couple times now. It feels very much like influence from Lucy, and him relaxing a tiny bit, and I’m into it. Eric and Titus play so well off each other, they’re one of my favorite dynamics on the show, so if Tim is going to be involved in this Stanton storyline, I’m all the more for it giving me more Tim and Jackson interaction. And I’m glad their conversation from the last episode was addressed -- I wasn’t happy with what Tim told him, and tonight’s episode felt like a make up for that.
STILL NEED ADDRESSED:
I need some mention of Rachel and Emmett. I don’t particularly want mentions of either of them, but I need them to clue me into how the writers are going to handle them this season. Like. Just let them go gracefully, don’t drag out relationships no one was into, please. But either way, tell us sooner rather than later what’s going on. This show isn’t wildly great at consistency, so I’m gonna need some clarification on these two relationships soon.
(I know this won’t happen, but --) Stop putting Nolan in these ridiculous situations. A meth lab last episode, a scuba gear wearing shooter out of the blue this episode? I think it’s common knowledge he isn’t my favorite character (literally, besides Stanton, who doesn’t count since he’s not a main cast member, Nolan is my LEAST favorite character)  but come on. The guy doesn’t have to be the hero all the time.
The Detective Lopez Factor I LOVE ANGELA LOPEZ so much. SO MUCH. I already miss her and Jackson together all the time, so I’m glad we got that today. Them checking in with each other was great. And I’m so, so happy she’s got her promotion. I honestly would watch a show just about her kicking ass and being pregnant and sparring with Wesley, with occasional guest appearances by Tim and Jackson. I’m not super wild about what this storyline has done to the plot lines and pacing of the show, though. I feel like they’re trying to straddle this razor thin line of either too many plot lines (last week) or them converging in random, not always believable ways (this week.) I know it’s TV, whatever, but. Sometimes it’s too much. Just let Angela be a kickass detective, and SAFE, and let her and Wesley keep setting the screen on fire with their chemistry, AND find some way to get the pacing a little better, and we’ll be good.

What do you think of the Theory / headcanon for Sonic in the Black Knights that eggman was probably Merlin in that world
Oh yeah, I remember seeing some of that years ago. I've had a few ideas for what kinds of positions he could have in the world but couldn't think of any existing figures to assign to him besides Merlin. So if he had to be assigned to one, I think he could be a good choice!
I think him being a wise enchanter/wizard instead of a smart scientist would be an interesting contrast. It'd make sense for him to master magic when he can't have tech. Having supernatural powers/abilities of things like prophecy and shapeshifting would be pretty badass. And he would have important involvement with his history with Arthur and Caliburn and all, which is what we want.
And since I always love to imagine Eggman meeting all his counterparts, I can picture him judging him for his magic if they met because he thinks science is far superior. But he'd still be interested in what he could do with it to see if it could be useful to him anyway. XD I like when his counterparts have both similarities and differences for fun interactions like that, so it works well!
But taking aspects of Merlin's stories into account, that would make him Merlina's grandfather and give him romantic interests. I prefer not to imagine his counterparts having romantic interests or biological descendants either. But if it was a different approach like adoption and he lacked the weird connections with Lady of the Lake/Amy and stuff then yeah, I could get behind it lol
I mean, I can't see main universe Eggman adopting either but since this counterpart would have a different life and position, maybe he would be the type to do so. I'd prefer to imagine it happening like that than any other way. Then it could be an intriguing difference to see how things with Merlina might have been and his interactions with her could be cute that way! ^^
Also feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on any details because I find the Arthurian Legend much more complex and difficult to piece together/comprehend than the Arabian Nights because of all the different versions of the stories and characters and Idek which we're even going by lol
wait that'd mean the reason why my husband isn't in it is because he's dead. oh my god I'm a widower noooo fnsngmdkhdghk

The mother of Sherlock Holmes
In a way, C. Auguste Dupin can be considered Holmes’s father, as Conan Doyle himself acknowledged having being inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s creation. The world’s very first detective is rather famous, but it seems that ACD also had more obscure sources of inspiration. Recently I watched Lucy Worsley’s documentary A Very British Murder. The series mentioned early examples of detective stories featuring female investigators. One of them is Revelations of a Lady Detective, a collection of short stories by William Stephens Hayward published in 1864.
William Stephens Hayward (1835-70) was a prolific author of Victorian "sensation" novels, historical novels, and stories for boys' papers. It is possible that ACD read his stories as a boy. Frankly, the stories gravitate towards “yellow-backed” fiction Watson occasionally favoured: the writing style and the plots are somewhat crude. But the lady detective herself is a very interesting character.
Mrs. Paschal is a widow “verging upon forty” with a “vigorous and subtle” brain. After the sudden death of her husband which left her “badly off”, she was approached “through a peculiar channel” with an offer from the Metropolitan Police to become a female detective. She is “well-born and well-educated”, resourceful, and likes an adventure. Her job is to be a police informant under different guises which she assumes “like an accomplished actress”.
Here are other very familiar features:
- Her wardrobe is “extensive and as full of disguises as that of a costumier's shop”;
- She uses logical reasoning. “I had seen a few things in my life which appeared scarcely susceptible of explanation at first, but which, when eliminated by the calm light of reason and dissected by the keen knife of judgment, were in a short time as plain as the sun at noonday.” As it was later put more elegantly by ACD, “if you eliminate the impossible...”;
- She doesn’t like to stay idle: “I was always happier in harness than out of it. I do not mean to say that I despised reasonable relaxation, but I depreciated any great waste of time”;
- She employs a street urchin “to discover minute and petty details which it was inconvenient for me to investigate myself” like watching someone on the street without raising suspicion. The urchin’s name is Jack Doyle, by the way. They met when she caught him pickpocketing, and instead of reporting him, she gave him a chance of an honest life. He became a servant in her household. She “had him washed and dressed”, “treated him kindly, gave him a certain weekly sum for wages, so that he might not be tempted to return to his own way of living from absolute want of pocket-money” and even taught him to read and write in her spare time;
- Her boss is Colonel Warner, “head of the Detective Department of the Metropolitan Police. It was through his instigation that women were first of all employed as detectives.” He is “a man of spare build, but with keen searching eyes, like those of a ferret”. He adopted the practice of employing female detectives from “Fouché, the great Frenchman”, who first came up with an idea that female informants could “assist him in discovering the various political intrigues“.
The very first story about Mrs. Paschal involves a female adversary cross-dressing as a man (hello, SCAN) and using an underground passage to steal gold from a bank (is that you, REDH?). The culprit is a rich countess, and to “unravel a tangled skein”, Mrs. Paschal gets a position of a lady’s maid in her house (just like Holmes posed as an plumber in Milverton’s house. Also, the working title of STUD was A Tangled Skein).
To follow the robber underground, Mrs. Paschal does not hesitate to ditch her crinoline, which was a sensible thing to do. Having witnessed the crime, she lamented having forgotten to take her “Colt’s revolver” with her.
Lacking a devoted companion, Mrs. Paschal narrates the stories herself. The later stories contain less personal details about her and flair in general, but if some of the better ones were adapted for TV by talented screenwriters, I’d love to see a mini-series about a badass Victorian woman in her late thirties, investigating on her own well before our good Sherlock’s time.
Revelations of a Lady Detective is available at Google books for free.

ACOSF Thoughts...
Don’t read unless you wish to be spoiled! Here are some things I can’t get out of my head after finishing the book...
Well first and foremost, I absolutely adore Nessian (as I always have but now it’s even more so) and I’m incredibly pleased with the direction it seems that SJM is leading Nesta’s character development! I’ve always wanted a badass warrior Nesta and I got way more than I figured (short of her growing wings at any time as I think some Valkyrie myths depict, this is amazing/ especially with all of the parallels people drew with her and Enalius). She’s going to make for an interesting character in the coming books and dare I say...commander Nesta. Oh, yes.
Of course I’ve always been obsessed with Lucien and nothing has changed on that front, but I’m even more intrigued now because we still need so many answers. When will it be revealed that he’s the heir of the Day Court? What’s the standings between he and Tamlin? With Vassa and Jurian? With his mother/ brothers? His mate? We literally got only two or three scenes with Luc involved so I knew nothing would be resolved in this novella, however I’m even more excited to see how Eris will play into his character arc come the next story (because you cannot convince me that SJM would put more emphasis on Eris than Lucien in this book and not intend for some brotherly angst in the future). Eris is also an anomaly and maybe it’s because I’m obsessed with the mysterious nature of whatever the hell is happening in the Autumn Court, but I really can’t wait to see what’s up with him and the rest of his family. (Also....the ballroom scene with Nest and Eris dancing to what is supposed to reflect Black Swan was one of my absolute favorite scenes.) Does Eris secretly desire peace and wants to take over Autumn not for power but to make amends and heal/ bring back glory to his home? And what exactly happened with Mor? SJM put so much emphasis on that too and we still have no idea.
I LOVE Gwyneth and Emerie. The triad of Valkyries was honestly the best part of the whole book for me. I know everyone is quick to match up characters with potential romances/ mates etc and it sounds like that’s what will happen with these two...but let’s not forget that they’re incredibly strong characters on their own terms and I hope whatever comes about their arcs isn't entirely placed on their romance status. However, they both seem to want to find someone to be with which leads me to believe that Emerie and Mor will very likely end up together (if only for the fact that we got one sentences indicating Em finds Mor gorgeous....I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens) and that Gwyn is going to be a potential interest for Azriel.
I love Lucien so much, but my soft fox boy needs to heal and stop forcing himself to find romantic love when all he really needs is some self love. (So perhaps that will be his final journey....Lucien finally coming to terms with his trauma, settling ties with everyone from his past, and taking up his mental as Helion’s son and the future of the Day Court.)
Elain seemed a bit OOC...and yet not at all? We’ve only got the chance to see the “sweet/ innocent” side of her, but it makes sense that she’s going to be a super complex character (SJM wouldn't have set her up so mysteriously if the intent was to leave her as a mere gardener) and that her journey in following books will show us a side of her we’ve never encountered. The Elriel ship has always been a confusing one for me, not because I don’t ship it but because there’s so much happening all the time that it’s hard to get a proper read on clues when SJM throws characters like Gwyn at us...coupled with the fact that Lucien seems to still be in love with Elain (or at least he’s just lonely and doesn't know how else to react, never mind whatever is happening with Vassa and Jurian), and that Az seems intent on getting with Elain....but Az also seems to be the type of character who falls in love deeply without considering a number of things. He’s driven by his desires and often hurt by them, hence his love for Mor. Notice how shortly after he started drifting from his desire for Mor, he started to desire Elain? Part of me wonders if it’s because he found the person he’s meant to be with...or if he felt attracted to her and she was a distraction to his pain and a means to help him get over Mor. Like I said, I don’t know which way I lean just yet but these are all possibilities!
Then there’s the Gwynriel ship--totally didn’t see that coming but I can’t say I don’t enjoy it. I love how Gwyn teases Az in a way that many others usually don’t dare, and that she’s another character with a history outside of the IC. While there’s a lot to consider, like the fact that Az’s shadows shy away when Elain is around but “dance” and seem to be overjoyed when Gwyn is nearby, I think a truly noticeable parallel to the pairing could be this:
Azriel is no stranger to unrequited love. In fact, that seemed to be his overarching characteristic for the first two books. Now that he’s found Elain and she also reciprocates their shared desire, it would be easy to pair them together. However, Gwyn seems to be interested in Azriel and Az can’t seem to figure out his standings with her other than being enticed and not realizing what’s in front of him because he’s so determined to be with Elain since “she’s the third sister and he the third brother” etc so it must make sense somehow even though Elain is mated. But Gwyn, to that extent, is no stranger to unrequited love either.
Just imagine: Azriel finally cracks in the following book and shows a rare display of emotions to either Gwyn or the IC (or both) and Gwyn decides to confront him about facing his fears (his past with Mor, his current standings with Elain, his desire to have someone) by claiming that she knows exactly what unrequited love feels like because every day she stares at him and feels precisely as devastated as he did/does whenever he sees Mor or Elain. Az will probably be shocked to all hell and maybe it’ll snap him out of his misery enough to think clearly on the whole matter.
The Rhysand and Nesta friendship was something else I wasn’t expecting, didn’t necessarily think I’d want, but now am excited to see bloom. They definitely do share traits and I can’t help but remember how Rhys once compared Feyre to Cassian and how Nesta and Rhys might be the opposite counterparts since they’re both haughty and respond to things with incredibly heightened emotions because they love fiercely.
This post is much longer than I’d intended but oh well, some other things for your consideration.....
A Varian/Amren x Nessian double date.
Nesta taking on a similar military role as Cassian and either leading a female unit of Illyrians/ Valkyries or sharing the brunt of Cassian’s job (plus come on... those two training together is essentially their respective version of foreplay and I’m so here for warrior Nessian bonding).
I hope we get to see that mating ceremony scene!
Also....does anyone remember Balthazar--the Illyrian who showed up for one scene and fell asleep on Nesta’s shoulder during the Blood Rite while he helped them find shelter? There’s no way SJM would’ve written in a character like that without intending for him to show up again in the future....
Koschei the deathless? Wonder what will occur there.
Damn, if you’ve made it this far give yourself a pat on the back.

prompt: Undercover
hosts: @bend-me-shape-me, @helianthus21, @pray4jensen
Dean has been undercover for many times in his life.
FBI agent, Homeland Security officer, reporter, janitor, gym teacher, lunch lady, maintenance guy, minister, private detective, and so on and so on. The list is so long that he's actually more familiar with playing a role when interacting with strangers than being himself.
So when they're on yet another case again and Sam calls him from the local library and tells him to dress up Dean doesn't even think about questioning it.
“Your fanciest clothes,” Sam orders, making it pretty clear there should be no discussion about it. “Designer suit, shiny shoes. And a shave because you're starting to look like a hobo.”
Dean barely lifts an eyebrow. “What do you need me to be? A snobby multimillionaire too good for this world.”
“The snobbiest,” Sam agrees. “It needs to look like the stench of money is following you everywhere.”
And so Dean does as he's told.
A while ago he got himself one of those super expensive Armani or whatever outfits for a case (thanks to Charlie's unlimited credit card no problem at all) and has it stashed in the depths of Baby's trunk ever since. It's only been used once so far considering fake FBI agents or journalists are rarely dressed in designer suits. At least not if they don't want to draw too much unwanted attention to them.
Dean isn't exactly sure the damned thing still fits after all that time, but after a quick shower and shave he gives it a try and finds himself pleasantly surprised when the suit still wraps itself over his body like a glove. Only around the hips it got a bit tight, but if he'd refrain from bending over it should be fine.
And it actually makes his ass look extra great, Dean has to admit. He snaps a quick picture of it and sends it to Cas because he can't help himself. Cas answers immediately with a long string of enthusiastic emojis that are both incredibly sweet, involving lots of hearts, as well as highly inappropriate and Dean loves him even more for it.
He makes a mental note to wear that suit the next time they'll be alone to see how fast the angel would be able to rip the clothes off his body and then he heads out to meet with Sam.
Soon enough he finds himself in front of a jewelry store, with his tall mountain of a brother waiting at the entrance. He is dressed in fancy clothes as well and considering he left their motel room a few hours ago just with his usual plaid attire he obviously went shopping in the meantime. The suit doesn't fit a hundred percent in some places, making it obvious this was a rather quick shopping trip with no time for a proper fitting, but it makes him nonetheless look extra posh too.
“We look good,” Dean remarks with a grin as he stops next to Sam. “Like we could buy all of the world in a heartbeat and still have a couple of millions left as pocket money.”
Sam merely huffs with a fond smile. “If you say so.”
“So what is the situation?” Dean asks, pointing at the store.
“I just got a lead that our annoying spirit might have a connection to a wristband that's on display here,” Sam tells him. “It had belonged to her before she died. And I know it's not much, but I wanna check it out anyway.”
That specific spirit had been annoying them for days now because they were unable to figure out what kept her here in the first place. So Dean will take any lead they can get, no matter how small.
“I'm actually not very optimistic,” Sam explains with a sigh. “But our ghost is showing up here in the area, so it's not a total longshot. We just need to get inside and distract the employees a little.”
“Hence the fancy clothes.” Dean nods in understanding. He highly doubts they would've even gotten past the security guard on the door in their usual jeans. Most likely even their regular FBI suits wouldn't have been good enough.
“So we just go inside and one of us pretends to be a customer while the other subtly checks out that wristband?” Dean asks nonetheless.
Sam nods. “Don't worry, I have a plan.”
Dean blinks, but has no time for further questioning since Sam's already shoving him through the gigantic front door. He's instantly greeted with lots of bling and bright lights and the absolute perfect room temperature (like seriously, did they hire a guy just to keep a close eye on that the entire time?) before getting pushed to the main counter where a blonde woman with a way too wide smile happily waits to bury her flawlessly manicured nails into those new  potential buyers.
“Welcome,” she says, her voice as melodic and perfect as the air in the store. “How can I be of assistance?”
“Well, we've got an important purchase to make,” Sam announces, sounding all kinds of pompous. “Because you see, my brother here,” he grabs Dean's shoulders and grins at him with such an intensity Dean can't help feeling wary all of a sudden, “he intends to propose to his boyfriend.”
Dean blinks rapidly.
What?
Okay, Dean certainly didn't expect that.
The woman – Marlene, as her name tag tells them – seems taken aback by that for a moment as well, but she picks herself up much quicker than Dean. Her smile increases a few thousand watt while she turns toward the groom-to-be. “This is wonderful. Congratulations!”
Dean feels a bit like he's been hit right in the face, out of nowhere.
Thankfully he is actually used to unexpected violent attacks and has learned fairly early to deal with them.
“Um … thanks,” he mumbles, feeling his cheeks heating up.
Marlene apparently misinterprets his awkward fumbling for adorable shyness or whatever and looks at him like she's ready to adopt him right here on the spot.
“You have to excuse him, this is still a bit much for him,” Sam leaps back into the conversation. “He's been thinking about this moment for years and I guess it might be a tad surreal that it's finally happening.”
“Really?” Marlene seems truly intrigued hearing that.
“Yeah,” Sam sighs way too dramatically, “Dean's basically been thinking about marrying Cas since the first moment they met.”
Well.
Actually his first meeting with Cas was more like Dean having a sudden realization á la, “Wow, he's hot!” and then stabbing the guy in the chest.
But Dean refrains from pointing that one out.
It might have ended in those people declaring them insane and kicking them out of the store. And though Dean is used to the first, he doesn't need the latter right now.
“Dean just wants everything to be perfect,” Sam points out, sounding exactly like a guy who is used to getting what he wants. “It's a big day.”
“It most certainly is,” Marlene agrees, dollar signs already flashing up in her eyes. “We have a vast collection of engagement rings and I'm sure we will find something to your liking.”
“Money is not the issue,” Sam says those magic words that make Marlene even more excited, so it seems. “The bigger and more extravagant, the better.”
Marlene smiles widens, appearing incredibly sweet and harmless on the surface. But Dean knows a predator focusing on its prey when he sees it.
On instinct he actually wants to take a step back and hide, but instead he gathers enough courage to meet her smile. It's still somewhat wobbly, but she probably blames it on his alleged nervousness about that big change in his life.
“Why don't you tell me a little bit about your Cas?” she prods him. “What is he like?”
Dean shoots a quick glance at his brother, cursing him for having to endure this in the first place, before clearing his throat and responding, “He's … um, awesome.”
Way to go, Winchester.
She is certainly swooning on the spot.
Dean winces inwardly and forces himself to get a little bit more into his role. After all, he is used to the undercover life, so this shouldn't be too hard.
For a minute there he even considers to lie about Cas' personality, wondering whether that would make it easier to talk about him to a total stranger, but as he's just about to come up with some made-up character traits, he hears himself saying, “Well, to be fair, he's an asshole.”
Marlene looks at him in surprise while Sam in the background rolls his eyes.
“Uh … okay?” Marlene answers, clearly not sure how to reply to that.
“Cas is grumpy,” Dean goes on, now a fond smile flickering over his features. “I'm quite certain he is the biggest grump in the history of mankind, to be honest. And he's way too sassy for his own good. Also he has no idea how to clean up after himself and he always hums those annoying jingles he heard on the radio or whatever. All day. I'm actually surprised I haven't gone mad many years ago.”
Or maybe he has.
With his life, who could tell?
“But he's also a badass,” Dean continues, registering the only other employee who's been lacking any customers at the moment sliding closer with clear interest in her eyes. “No one should dare to screw around with him. And the few that actually did regretted it pretty quickly.”
That's, of course, an understatement actually, but he won't go into much detail now. For those poor women's sanity.
“And he cares, so much,” Dean goes on, an affectionate smile settling on his face when his thoughts drift closer to Cas. It's an automatic response at this point and he's pretty sure it'll stay like that for the rest of his life. “Even about that stupid little fly that got lost into our room a couple of weeks ago. It feels like we spent hours catching that thing and releasing it back into the wild. But what could you have done, you know? Cas would've been miserable if that fly would've died inside and that's something nobody wants to see. Believe me. He looks like a kicked puppy when he's sad.”
The salesladies scoots even closer, captivated by Dean gushing over his boyfriend. While Sam subtly starts to step back a little and check out the rest of the display, trying to locate the wristband of their obnoxious ghost.
Dean clears his throat, despite still feeling like he's been thrown into icy water without any warning whatsoever by his traitorous brother more than determined to play this role like their lives depend on it. After all, there here and they might not get a second chance.
So Dean gives it all he's got.
“So yes, Cas, he's great,” he says. “He's been my best friend for such a long time now and I … I guess I want him at my side for the rest of my life. And even beyond that.”
Dean smiles at the image of sharing his Heaven with Cas one day. It might be a hassle to get there at first – after all, Cas' relationship with his brethren is still not the best –, but Dean has no doubt that it'll come true eventually. Cas is way too much of a stubborn son of a bitch to not see this through.
Dean blinks as he suddenly realizes that he is in fact beginning to fantasize about Cas by his side forever as a real possibility.
Huh.
“As mentioned, we have a vast collection of engagement rings to help you start this new chapter of your life,” Marlene says with a happy sigh. “We would be more than happy to help you with your endeavor.”
Dean stares at her for a moment.
Oh right. Rings. The case.
“Yes, right,” he mutters, a slight blush on his face now. “It … it needs to be perfect.”
Marlene and her colleague – Amanda, as her name tag tells him – immediately spur into action and for the next ten minutes Dean sees himself confronted with a huge variety of different rings in all shapes and forms. A few are actually quite simple and elegant – silver bands with a couple of nice highlights – and some are seriously so over-the-top pompous and big Dean has no idea how a normal human being should be able to wear that on their hand.
But he smiles at them all and fakes such exaggerated interest both Marlene and Amanda seem to believe they're in Heaven themselves.
And it seems like a freaking eternity until Sam pops up next to him again.
“I'm so sorry to interrupt, ladies,” he jumps right into their enthusiastic conversation. “My girlfriend just texted me. Her doctor's appointment ended way earlier than expected and I need to pick her up.”
A blatant lie, of course, considering Eileen is back at the bunker with Cas, probably getting her ass beaten in every single board game invented by the best of all strategists Heaven has ever produced.
“But don't worry, Dean will be back shortly,” Sam promises right away as both Marlene and Amanda look rather crestfallen at those news. “After all, Dean can't wait to get married.”
They bid hasty goodbyes and are soon enough back on the streets again.
“So, any luck?” Dean asks when he's starting to remember the real reason why they went into the store in the first place.
“I found the wristband,” Sam admits. “But there's no suspicious energy to it. It's just jewelry.”
“Damn,” Dean sighs. “Well, it was worth a shot, at least.”
“Yeah …”
“And that was one hell of a cover story, Sammy,” Dean can't help pointing out for some reason.
Sam shoots him a quick glance, something intense flickering over his features.
“It wasn't though, right?” he asks in the end. “A cover story, I mean. Not really, at least.”
Dean frowns. On first instinct he wants to deny that, just wants to scoff at his brother's face and get on with his life, but then he thinks about Cas and how nice he would look with a ring on his finger and he finds himself lowering his gaze to cover up the flush on his cheeks.
“Uh … well, maybe it wasn't really a cover story after all,” he admits, his voice low, yet steady.
“So you want to go back?” Sam wonders, a smile on his lips. “ Look at those rings again? When this case is over and everything.”
Dean blinks. A few of those rings actually did look kind of awesome, if he's honest with himself. And sure, they're pretty expensive, but also very durable (an important feature in their line of work), and Dean surely didn't lie when he said that Cas only deserves the best.
So he finds himself muttering, “Yeah, I guess I wouldn't mind going back” and feels rather good about it.
Seems like Dean seriously has an important purchase to make after all.

Hello! I know you’re super busy, so it’s awesome that you wrote such a long piece! Thank you so much for going to all that trouble, it gave me lots to think over! Also, for me, your OCs are my favourite parts of your writing, no contest, because you have this amazing talent for characterization and complexity and the dynamics you create are fascinating (Sayuri is badass and I love her. I love everything about her character, even the amoral parts because they’re intriguing to read about). (1/3)
I love how Sayuri manipulates with the truth, making the manipulation that much more effective, and how she makes the disproportionate response sound rational (because it is, if you weigh it on her scales, but also the eradication of a clan is terrifying). She doesn't even sound like she's doing it, so I love the plausible deniability she has and the subtlety of it all. I also love her banter with Sousuke; I love how you create a realistic sibling dynamic while making both characters (2/3)
fleshed out beyond their love for each other even as they’re shaped and defined by it. Also, I always wondered how Sakumo dealt with the second phase of Sayuri’s plan in the lightning mist AU. Also, what would have happened if Sayuri really had left Sousuke that time they escaped? Also how did Sayuri’s initial meeting go with each of the Espada, and how did she get Ulquiorra to follow her so loyally? I don't want to overwhelm you, though, since you're busy--as always feel free not to answer! 3/3
Thank you so much for the kind messages-- speaking as a fanfic author, people sending me asks and showing interest in my OCs is honestly one of the biggest compliments I can get (because let’s be honest, most people read fanfic for the canon characters-- so people sticking around for the characters I created? That’s amazing).
Yeah, Sayuri is fun to write because by no means is she a good person, but there’s just enough good in her to make her interesting :P
I’m glad you liked the sibling banter! In a lot of ways, they bring out the worst in each other-- and yet when they’re together, that’s when they’re the most human.
As for how Sakumo dealt with the second phase of Sayuri’s restore-Sakumo’s-reputation plan, I imagine the conversation went a lot like this:
“No. Absolutely not. I refuse to hurt you,” Sakumo says stubbornly, crossing his arms over his chest.
Sayuri resists the urge to sigh.
“You’re only pretending to hurt me,” she explains patiently for what seems like the hundredth time. Actually, for the plan to work, he needed to pretend to kill her, but...baby steps.
Sakumo glares darkly at her.
“Except I’d need to make it look convincing, correct?” He asks flatly. “Which would involve hurting you for real. And so...no. I refuse.”
“You’re being ridiculous. I can take it,” Sayuri argues.
“Good for you. I can’t,” he says, and storms off.
Sayuri rubs at her eyes tiredly. Just her luck she had to fall in love with a righteous man.
It’d been a long time since she’d encountered someone with honor. She’d forgotten how annoying it could be.
(She’d forgotten how much she’d missed it).
