• We will be having a calling day on TUESDAY (16 th April) to make clear to Congress that there is still a ton of opposition to these bills. https://energycommerce.house.gov/posts/chair-rodgers-and-ranking-member-pallone-announce-legislative-hearing-on-data-privacy-proposals-1
• House Energy and Commerce is holding the hearing so they are the best offices to call this week ‼️ https://energycommerce.house.gov/representatives

Can you do 17 and 18?
17. Is Sakura useless?
This is another question like the "is sakura a shitty character" question. I think it's kind of stupid and I don't like it very much lol why all this attention to sakura specifically like there aren't a shit ton of characters in naruto that lots of people would consider "shitty" and "useless"? Feels a bit like the posts I talked about in my other asks from the antis LMAO telling on yourself a bit here, aren't you?
Anyway, let's first determine what constitutes a character's use in a narrative. First things that come to my mind are to drive the plot, present a problem, present a solution, be funny, be interesting, etc. Pretty standard storytelling stuff. In this way, I don't believe any character is truly "useless". Every character has a function within their narrative, and if they weren't given a specific one by the author, their presence still impacts the story, so in that way they're not void of use or purpose.
I think Kishimoto wrote Sakura into this story to serve a few purposes, but of course, to know exactly what her use is, we'd have to ask him. Her most obvious use is to serve as a love interest to naruto and also sasuke. This is the same role almost every female character in Naruto occupies. Separately, while she isn't the sole character that does this, she serves a narrative purpose as a stand-in for the viewer. Many minor characters share this role to stand by and ask what's happening, convey simple emotions like surprise, sadness, outrage, etc. Also to offer explanations the viewer could have missed, in-turn minimizing the chances of narrative confusion.
Sakura isn't a character Kishimoto is concerned with developing like the male characters, so she doesn't often serve a lot of purpose as the object of the plot. She doesn't participate in many key fights in a meaningful way, and we aren't frequently given any complex insight into her thoughts/emotions. She isn't handled with the intention to fulfill the narrative or connect to the viewer. That's just how girls in Naruto are treated unfortunately.
So, is Sakura useless? No, there aren't any characters in a narrative that serve no purpose. And in light of the sexist writing Kishimoto's quite famous for, I think it's unfair to talk about Sakura like she somehow could not have been a compelling, thoughtful, and badass character if she had only been given the same care that Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, etc. had been given.
18. Ship wars or power scaling debates?
Why not both LMAO I love a good fucking fight
as far as character analysis goes, I like to look at the canon more than create things myself, so if I'm obsessed about two characters that have real onscreen chemistry? It's ship wars babyyy
but if I'm obsessed with the complexities of naruto war as it relates to different shinobi's unique jutsus? hell yeah power scaling

@evilkitten3 saw you looking for this
does anyone have the post where it's like an edited version of the meme where the person looks at their phone messages and there's like seven different numbers that are all saying "kill yourself" and then there's a single one that says something about drugs like "need cocaine" or something. but it's obito with the akatsuki

9. Which Naruto fandom words are you allergic too?
I guess I'm not sure what "fandom words" are. But you know what I don't like? Posts tagged "anti-sakura"  or like anti a certain character. Usually a character who's pretty innocuous. I know as soon as I start reading a post like this. Most of the time I stop and scroll down- there's the tag. I just find it really unnecessary and kind of funny in a stupid way to write a whole post about a character that you supposedly hate when you could just. ignore them? It isn't even in the spirit of media criticism or character analysis, because there are never any references to how the character could be rewritten, or things that almost came to fruition but didn't, or any single detail that OP didn't find abhorrent. Just a really annoying stupid read to me. This of course doesn't apply to characters who have something glaringly awful and triggering about them like jiraiya the pr/dator. I see anti-sakura the most, and it's usually just someone telling on themself about how much they hate women lol
Thanks for the ask :)

1. Most Overrated Character?
Pein/Nagato. I think they're overrated as fuck. Much like Obito, I'm sympathetic to their character obviously, but I don't like them. I don't find the character particularly interesting. Also I think it's stupid that everything Yahiko, Nagato, and Conan worked for ended up going to shit bc of whoever the salamander from the mist. They deserved better than that. Nagato didn't have to become a shell of his former self who only knows how to rectify the situation by killing innocents. He did have to end up DYING TOO. And KONAN FFS. I actually like these characters but I feel like their story just Fucked Them

19. Pettiest fandom opinion you've blocked someone for?
I don't keep track of people who block me. In fact, I don't even know an easy way to do that. I have had a few people be weird about me drawing adult Sasuke and Naruto together and calling them cheaters jokingly. Also, I get oddly defensive tags about calling Fugaku a misogynist, which I don't really understand. Of the men to defend, why him? Makes me laugh a little. I guess there's no proof he's sexist, but there's certainly no proof he feels different about women than anyone else in the series. He sure doesn't know how to love his kids LOL
Thanks for the ask :)

1, 7, 10, 13 and 16 for the ask game pls!
1. Most Overrated Character?
I'll answer this question more than once, cuz I'm a hater and I have a few. First one first, I'm just gonna say it. I've never understood what everyone sees in Obito. Do I understand his narrative role? Yes. Am I sympathetic to him as a character? Very much. Do I like him? No. I've seen piles and piles of fanart, of meta, of aesthetics, and playlists. NO HATE, everyone likes who they like, they see something in him I don't. Just do not understand it.
I find Obito annoying and frustrating as a character. He doesn't fascinate me, which is odd because I usually am drawn to characters with a heavy backstory. I think it might be that he decided to kill Kakashi about it. Idk. Just seems like if he really believes all the things he believes, if he really has risen above Madara and the Shinobi system's influence like he says he has, he wouldn't fucking do the same thing Madara wants to do and also try to kill Kakashi who endured the same trauma. Just don't really get him. Glad he came around though. I wish he didn't have to die, I find it unnecessary. The Leaf needs more Uchiha jesus christ
Also I think the obsession the fandom has with Rin THROUGH Obito is more than a little uncomfortable. Rin should have been explored via an avenue that wasn't him. In addition to him, maybe, but not Strictly Obito. Just another female character becoming a plot device.
7. Should Naruto have become Hokage?
I think a better ending for Naruto would have been a personal decision on his part that he doesn't HAVE to be Hokage. In my opinion, it would've been more thematically satisfying. Why do I think this? Because Naruto wouldn't even like doing the actual Hokage job, seeing as it's mostly paper-pushing, strategy, and talking politics with the other Kage. This is what I said to myself before the end of the series. *watches Boruto* I was fucking right.
Being Hokage doesn't suit Naruto. He wanted to become Hokage originally so the citizens of the Leaf would praise and admire him. It was a child's dream born out of unrelenting hate and ostracization. As he got older, Naruto never put two and two together that what he'd set out to accomplish was not actually being Hokage, it was finding people he could belong with and feel loved by. He'd done that by the end of the first arc, and he only went up from there.
After Sasuke leaves, Naruto abandons this dream. Whether he says so or not, Sasuke is more important to him than being Hokage. This could be because Sasuke is the one who makes Naruto feel the most at home in the Leaf. I think of it like this: if Naruto wishing to be Hokage is really a wish for belonging, Naruto pursuing Sasuke instead of pursuing becoming Hokage implies that Sasuke has filled this emotional role for Naruto (or Naruto wants him to, at least). In the end, he is made Hokage because he saves the world and is the most exceptional Shinobi in the Leaf; it's what makes sense. Naruto never really wanted to be Hokage. He wanted to not be despised by literally everyone. And in the end he wanted to be with Sasuke.
No, I don't think Naruto should have become Hokage. I don't think Naruto likes being Hokage.
10. Is Sakura a shitty character or shitty-ly written?
I don't like this question. I see it thrown around a lot. I don't really understand it, honestly. What is a character? It's a fake person written by a real person. It's called a character bc its characteristics and shape are decided by the writer. So what then is the difference between a shitty character and a character that's shittily written? Maybe I'm not conceptualizing it properly. Anway
I think all of Kishimoto's female characters are written like shit. There are zero female characters in Naruto that are given the focus or development they deserve. None of them are treated as if they have the same agency, drive, intelligence, or autonomy that the male characters do. Sexism is alive and well in this writing; there isn't anything else to say.
Do I think if these characters were written by someone who wasn't sexist/a shitty writer/unable to understand women, they would be better? Absolutely.
13. Was Kakashi trying his best? Was he a "good" sensei?
answered here :)
16. Is Tobirama racist against Uchihas?
Racism is defined by google as "prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized."
The Uchiha is a group in the Leaf that is a minority and also marginalized, as the governing body at this point is made up of Senju, a richer clan and one that has always been at the top of the ladder socially, politically, so on and so forth.
Tobirama, before he becomes Hokage, is unwilling to trust the Uchiha becoming a part of the Leaf. Seeing as the clans have been at war for some time, the concern that he and his clan won't be safe trying to make peace with the Uchiha is not an unreasonable one. However, after Tobirama becomes Hokage, he imposes special laws specific to the Uchiha. He confines them to their own compound, so they will be contained and separated from everyone else. He puts up extensive surveillance, so that they are monitored 24/7. He creates a police force of only Uchiha under the guise of granting them "governing power", what it's really doing is alienating the Uchiha even further from the rest of the populace. He spreads rumors and creates "scientific" evidence that the Uchiha will turn evil with the evolution of their sharingan- something that would be considered a trait distinct to the Uchiha as an ethnic group. Mind you this is presumably years after they have cultivated peace, as Tobirama can only become Hokage after Hashirama is dead. At this point, his fear of the Uchiha has no basis in reality, as they have given him no reason since the war has ended to believe they are a danger (much less inherently evil). He is perpetuating the stereotypes that existed during the war- stereotypes that were born out of fear of the enemy, dehumanization of the other that you must kill or else be killed yourself.
So in short, not only was he racist against the Uchihas, he practically invented racism against the Uchihas.
Thanks for the ask :)

4. Are the romantic undertones between Naruto and Sasuke intentional or accidental?
I've seen quite a lot of talk about this in the fandom already, done a little thinking myself. The answer to this question, of course, is that we'll never know unless Kishimoto comes out and says whether it was intentional or not. Even then, there's obviously more than a bit of motivation for him to say it wasn't intentional in order to protect himself and his interests from homophobic backlash. If he said it WAS intentional, I'd take him at his word for the very same reason. He'd have to be pretty brave to come out and let everybody know it was gay on purpose; no telling what could happen to him.
But I realize the question isn't about Kishimoto, it's about what I think personally. Personally? I'm torn. If you told me one way or another, I'd accept it either way. However, I do think the symbolism in Naruto, the thematic parallels, and illusions to romance, are a bit heavy-handed at times. I've wondered myself if it could even possibly BE an accident with the sheer amount of innuendo and subtext. Not just with Sasuke and Naruto either.
I suppose when someone who's not queer writes something in the name of platonic love, tries to send it home, tries to make it as sincere as possible, there will always be cases where love can be interpreted more than one way. I'm not someone who puts very strict labels on platonic and romantic love. I don't put one above the other. Devotion is something that exists in love in all of its forms. I can hold hands with my friends and my partner. I'd die for my mother and I'd die for a stranger. Emotional closeness, physical shows, sacrifice, etc. are not enough for me to say one way or another if someone is in romantic or platonic love with someone else. It's only enough to say that they are in love. They care for each other. They are important figures in each other's lives. For this reason, I don't think it's a very important question or one that can be answered by watching the show. Naruto and Sasuke are in love in whatever way you want them to be. I want them to be gay, so to me, the romance is real.
HOWEVER, given the context, Kishimoto I'm sure doesn't share my opinions on blurry love. Is it possible that by introducing the devotion, the sacrifice, the love that everyone in the show CONSISTENTLY treats as bizarre and out of pocket, he intended to create a subtext of romance which would not be accepted if it was written overtly? I would say it's possible, in fact, even probable. I won't examine it in detail, because I hesitate to say even acts like kissing are strictly indicative of romance, but that's just the kind of queer I am. But when you give your duel protags, which you've built an unbreakable bond between, wives who they don't want to be around and lives they hate, and their only reprieve is seeing each other? Well, I can see why the whole fucking fandom has to stop and think. Very curious.
11. Is Itachi a martyr, a victim, or a perpetrator?
I don't think Itachi's character can be broken down so easily. He's a lot of things. More thoughts here :)
13. Was Kakashi trying his best? Was he a "good" sensei?
Oh, this is a tough one for me, something I've thought about a lot. First, let's start by establishing what a "good" sensei is. In my opinion, I'd say a good sensei is someone who protects their students, plays to their strengths, offers encouragement and help when needed, and ultimately tries to make decisions in their students' best interest. Granted, I haven't watched the anime in some time, but I think, all things considered, Kakashi was a pretty good sensei. Definitely, I believe he tried to be better than Minato, and he at the very least succeeded in that.
There are times I was disappointed in Kakashi. When Naruto was grieving the loss of Sasuke or Jiraiya, feeling responsible, I believe he should have been there for him. However, it's also important to remember that Kakashi is a soldier- one of the strongest in the Leaf- he has responsibilities besides just his students, things that are expected of him to which he can't simply say no. This too is important to keep in mind if we're evaluating him on how good of a sensei he's been. It's up for debate, obviously, because the source material doesn't say where Kakashi is or what he's doing all the time, but I believe in the cases where Naruto, Sasuke, or Sakura needed him and he wasn't there, he would have liked to be and was unable. Given his conduct the rest of the time, I don't think that's a stretch (i.e. leaving vegetables for Naruto in his apartment, going after Sasuke even when he was assigned to a different mission, etc.)
I'd call him a good sensei, and if he wasn't, I'd still say he was trying his best. Always thinking back on Minato and his own squad, I think it was very important to Kakashi that he try to make up for what he saw as a failure to his last team, by protecting and teaching Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. He was willing from the very beginning to die in Zabuza's water prison if it meant the kids would live instead of dying trying to break him out- and at the very end, he stayed with them through the Obito, Madara, and then Kaguya fight, when he had no reason to believe he would make it out alive or even be of any help. The lives of his students seem to be in the forefront of Kakashi's mind consistently throughout the series, which I find commendable in a universe where child soldiers are born every minute and their deaths are treated as an unnavigable necessity. It speaks volumes to Kakashi's character that he is even willing to turn his back on this ideology that's pushed by all his elders in the series. I'd say he and Gai do it best. They've had enough of the killing; I believe they make an effort to overcome the cycle that's been perpetuated, even if it's only their respective group of three kids each.
Yes, even though Kakashi has made his share of mistakes, I think he tries his best, and I believe he is the best sensei he can be with all his flaws and baggage lol
Thanks for the ask :)
