hi my mind is consumed by ares!alhaitham and aphrodite!kaveh so here's my headcanons for those interested:

all the other gods are always underestimating kaveh thinking he's too sensitive and alhaitham's just like no wtf guys. stop. or else I will destroy everything you love forcefully with my giant holy spear

them sneaking off to sit and be in love while important things are happening: "haitham we're supposed to be solving the famine in sparta." "and??"

their ways of taking care of things on earth being so different: kaveh gets upset by the way haitham handles things sometimes so he stops so as to not upset his love

Alhaitham doesn’t say “I love you”.

He says “come here”, and cradles Kaveh’s head close. Sometimes he threads his fingers through Kaveh’s hair, sometimes he kisses the top of his head, sometimes he leans his head against Kaveh’s.

He does it when Kaveh is absorbed in his work, chewing on a pencil. He does it when Kaveh is on the brink of tears, complaining about an unreasonable deadline. He does it when Kaveh laughs at the exact same scene in his favourite movie for the 67th time.

He does it after he teases Kaveh and realises he’s gone a little too far. He does it in the middle of their arguments when Kaveh’s flinging his arms everywhere. He does it when Kaveh is drunk, cheeks pink and hiccuping.

He does it in the middle of sex, when Kaveh is gasping for breath and trying so hard to take all of him in. He does it after sex, when Kaveh’s hair and face are a mess, skin damp and warm and glowing. He does it when Kaveh whispers “I love you” in the dead of night.

“Say it back,” Kaveh says one night. “You love me, don’t you?”

“Of course I do.”

“Then say it.”

“Are my actions not proof enough?”

Kaveh rolls his eyes. “it’s three words, Mr. Haravatat. You of all people should know the power of words.”

Alhaitham says nothing. he brushes hair out of Kaveh’s eyes, taking in the curve of his lashes, the pink dusting the bridge of his nose.

“It’s not enough,” he says finally, grazing his thumb over Kaveh’s bottom lip.

“What do you mean?” Kaveh asks, this time without any of the haughtiness.

“What I feel for you,” Alhaitham says, tracing his finger under Kaveh’s jaw, “words do not justify it.”

Kaveh just looks at him, moonlight catching in his scarlet eyes.

“But if it pleases you so,” Alhaitham whispers, lips pressing against the shell of Kaveh’s ear.

And in the softest voice, only for Kaveh’s ears, Alhaitham says, “I love you.”

He draws back to see Kaveh red as a beet. He shoves Alhaitham away, embarrassment practically steaming off the top of his head.

“You…!” Kaveh sputters, cupping his face in a desperate attempt to cool himself down. “You sap!” he curses venomously, and Alhaitham chuckles.

“Come here,” he says, cupping the back of Kaveh’s feverish head with his hand.

And as always, Kaveh leans in, utterly melting into Alhaitham’s embrace.

⋆୨୧ My 3 am Alhaitham and Kaveh thoughts ୨୧⋆

Thing is, Kaveh is too kind for his own good.

That’s what Alhaitham always think. It seems like the man is bothered by this fact a lot. To the Acting Grand Scribe, when mentioning Kaveh, he also - almost immediately - think of his compassion. Not their incompatible characteristics, not their contradictory but his kindliness. Which in his mind - is Kaveh’s most significant trait, but also Kaveh’s greatest flaw. It doesn’t make sense that someone as talented as Kaveh to wear his heart on his sleeve.

As for Alhaitham, everyone knows he’s respectful to others’ standpoints, even if he himself disagrees strongly; even if they don’t suit his own standards of thinking. Still, he seems deeply affected by his “emotionally fragile” housemate - weird, no?

If someone mentions a topic once - it means they do notice. Nevertheless, if it’s not irrelevant, it’s completely unnecessary to have a say in the matter twice. Alhaitham sees the Kshahrewar graduate’s sympathy and selflessness as a predicament that has to be corrected. He tries - looking almost too hard - to protest against the architect and his excessively nice attitude. Oftentimes put a stop to it should he feel the need to do so, no matter how many times they would bicker with the other after.

Interesting, indeed.

Kaveh and Alhaitham, Sumeru Bulletin Board (over)Analysis: Part 2

(This is a reworked excerpt taken from my Haikaveh essay! If you're interested you can check it out here or as a pdf <3)

In Kaveh and Alhaitham's discourse on the discussion board of Puspa's Café, the two disagree over the subjective value of art. This topic is of particular significance to Kaveh, as it is a key element of his character design in respect of his career as an architect, being an artist himself, as well as it being highlighted within his Hangout. This is one of the few instances we receive of Alhaitham and Kaveh discussing the arts with each other to such an extent, so it is interesting to gauge Alhaitham's viewpoint.

Alhaitham holds a pragmatic view of art as a recourse, aligning it with any other material good to be produced, whereas Kaveh's viewpoint aligns with his sensibility, in that it is the meaning of art that trumps its material price and market demand. This makes sense considering their mirroring perspectives, in which Kaveh is described to be the opposing sensibility to Alhaitham's rationality, and in that human feeling is contrasted with practical knowledge.

The idea of correctness is alluded to here with the 'clash'ing of theories and Alhaitham refusing to pay for Kaveh's tab due to Kaveh disagreeing with his 'materialist' perspective. Since there is no definitive answer to their debate, there is no objective correct opinion offered. This idea of 'correctness' is a extremely relevant to Alhaitham and Kaveh's relationship, being a reason for their past argument and the misalignment of their once seemingly harmonised views, manifesting in their joint thesis of language and architecture. Now, however, the two are on differing wavelengths and appear to assert their opinions as the objective truth over the other (which is further discussed here). This ultimately acts as a detriment since Alhaitham asserts in A Parade of Providence that sometimes correctness can mean 'nothing at all'.

Not only is this particular board post interesting in regards to the differences in Kaveh and Alhaitham's characters and their approaches to life, it is also relevant in establishing their rapport with each other.

On a surface read, Alhaitham and Kaveh’s relationship can be simplified as “terrible” (as described by Geoff in A Toast To Victory), as in the two do not get along - but this in itself is a contradiction to Alhaitham’s inconvenience-avoiding nature, as by this he would gain nothing by allowing Kaveh to live with him.

Alongside their situation as roommates, it is revealed here that Alhaitham usually pays for Kaveh’s tab in Puspa’s Café, as well as buying crates of wine for the two of them from Lambad’s Tavern (as established in the Mahamata Bulletin Board). Whilst this is established, what is not established is what Alhaitham receives from these actions in return.

The implication is that Alhaitham does so without any expectations of reciprocation – as follows with his ‘rule’ of not keeping “track” of favours, so long as they do not inconvenience him. Alhaitham offering to buy Kaveh drinks in reference to a hypothetical furniture shopping excursion is referred to as a “loan” by Alhaitham, however, this does not mean that his paying off Kaveh’s tabs counts as the same.

When Alhaitham declines paying for Kaveh’s tab, it is because they have disagreed over their philosophies, and Alhaitham does so to ground Kaveh’s perceived idealism – referring to Kaveh as “spoiled”. Since Kaveh having to pay for his own tab is seen by Alhaitham as a sort of retribution, this shows that Kaveh typically does not have to pay Alhaitham back. This implies that the other “usual” instances of Alhaitham paying Kaveh’s tab are not loans, and are actions that are performed without expectation of reciprocation. Even within the proposed hypothetical scenario of Alhaitham buying drinks for Kaveh as a “loan” (as established in Alhaitham's story quest), he does not turn down Kaveh’s offer to go furniture shopping, and instead chastises Kaveh for pretending he is not in debt and having to live with Alhaitham.

These voluntary actions Alhaitham performs for Kaveh demonstrate the lack of inconvenience Kaveh imposes onto his life, and therefore rebuke the argument that Alhaitham actively dislikes Kaveh.

This discord of viewpoints and the lack of compromise demonstrated here as present within their two other bulletin board messages, albeit in different ways. The question ultimately posed ties in with the core question of their character design, most accurately put across in Kaveh’s Character Story 5, can their mirroring viewpoints ever align? Can they restore the harmony once established between them? Can the two ever understand each other?

my brain ran away with pokemon crossover stuff so here are some headcanons I have afjksafhakj (these are copy-pasted from my doc, which is why I include typing and stuff lol)

Kaveh:

Duosion!! (Psychic) F

Kaveh catches a Klefki after a business trip causing one to consume his house key after he accidentally loses it. Back then, the Klefki liked it so much (this PKM Scarlet Dex Entry) that it gained the house key and lion key chain onto its form.

Kaveh gains an Applin from Al-Haitham. Alternatively, Al-Haitham has the complicated process of giving one to Kaveh without explaining himself. He brings it home to take care of it ("It was involved in a student's less than ethical studies. Now it has to recover.") Kaveh steps up instead to do so because "you of all people could use the help to show a little more outward compassion for a little one in this scenario." The Applin gets attached, and so does Kaveh get attached to it, so now Kaveh keeps it as one of his own partners.

Duosion often helps Kaveh work, it's one of the few scenarios where both brains of the Pokemon will agree with each other. Following this, would also be taking care of Kaveh when the man falls into a daze of work. She is one of the reasons Kaveh has not keeled over from exhaustion in the past few years since she joined his team.

His Duosion loves messing with Al-Haitham's Sceptile, particularly egging him on to train. But will quickly concede when caught, and Al-Haitham has reminded it several times of the consequences, to no avail. Duosion continues because, to her, it's entirely entertaining in the end. To Sceptile, with care, the coating of liquid gel encased by membrane is very similar to a chew toy. Kaveh had screeched profanities the first time he caught sight of Duosion in Sceptiles jaws. Then he is shown that Sceptile would not actually chew on Duosion and that it is more of a "game over" to Duosion's teasing. It's less panic and more exasperation after that.

Al-Haitham:

Espeon and Umbreon were two Eevees from the same litter that Kaveh and Al-Haitham took in a bit before their fallout in the Akademiya. After their subsequent separation following that day, it was a wonder that the Eevees evolved to polar opposites, similar to how Kaveh and Al-Haitham see one another. Kaveh certainly had words to say post-reunion when Al-Haitham released Espeon out to play with his Umbreon. But when the two Pokemon started tussling and play-fighting like Kaveh remembers them doing years prior, he held his tongue. For what did it matter? So long as they're happy with their forms and with seeing each other again.

Al-Haitham's Sceptile was once his grandmother's Treecko. Just like when Al-Haitham was younger, Sceptile now will still try to entertain him even though he's grown out of his child-self. Sceptile is still his closest partner, especially since Al-Haitham had relied so much on the Pokemon after his grandmother's passing and vice versa.

Scolipede is incredibly stubborn, to the point where Al-Haitham has learned to curve its aggressive spouts with common trips outside Sumeru City to train.

It’s been exactly 7 years since Kaveh’s mother left him behind in Sumeru.

Each year on this day, Kaveh is a little quieter than usual, a little more distracted than usual.

His mind is filled with what-ifs, regrets, and silent self-loathing.

“Stop playing with your food.”

Kaveh looks up from his plate in surprise. Alhaitham is watching him from across the table, his own plate already empty.

“Oh, sorry,” Kaveh mutters, looking down at his half-eaten fatteh. His appetite is too poor to finish it.

“I’ll wash the dishes.”

Kaveh takes his time with the dishes, finding comfort in the echo chamber of self-hatred that is his mind. He deserves this.

A pair of arms snake their way around his waist, startling him. Kaveh feels Alhaitham press a kiss to his nape. He tucks Kaveh’s messy hair behind his ear, his other hand sliding lower to Kaveh’s hip.

“Want to shower together?”

Shower sex does sound like the perfect distraction. Besides, Alhaitham has given Kaveh everything he needs and more.

Who the hell is he to say no?

“Okay.”

When they’re entangled in the steam later, Alhaitham pulls back from a deep kiss to ask Kaveh, “Up for anything in particular tonight?”

Kaveh smiles, but it doesn’t reach his eyes.

“Have your way with me.”

He’d expected to be bent in half and fucked senseless, pushed up against the marble wall and pounded numb.

Manhandled and abused like he so deserves.

What he did not expect was Alhaitham kissing every visible inch of his skin, holding him as though he might break like glass.

Whispering sweet nothings into his ear and praising him with every extra finger he slides in.

Alhaitham has never been this affectionate. Sure, they’re a couple, sure, Kaveh knows he cares, but he never knew just how much.

He never knew he could be loved like this.

Kaveh cries when he cums.

He cries and cries, hands shaking in front of his eyes, not wanting to see Alhaitham’s reaction to him in this pathetic state.

Alhaitham says nothing. He holds Kaveh up in a hug, arms still strong and unwavering even after sex.

“Was the sex that good?” He jokes, gently tracing circles on Kaveh’s back. Kaveh chuckles between sobs despite himself.

“I told you to have your way with me,” he murmurs into the crook of Alhaitham’s neck.

“I did,” Alhaitham replies easily. He sets Kaveh down on his feet and cradles Kaveh’s head in his hands, guiding it to face him.

Kaveh doesn’t have it in him to look Alhaitham in the eyes—he probably looks like shit from all the sobbing.

“Your eyes are swollen,” Alhaitham says, swiping away the tears under them. “Sleep early tonight.”

Kaveh nods obediently. He turns to step out of the shower, and Alhaitham pulls him back in.

“Do you promise?”

“Yes—”

“I don’t believe you. Sleep in my room tonight.”

Before Kaveh can react, Alhaitham sweeps him off his feet and carries him out of the shower.

“What?! Haitham!” Kaveh yelps, squirming in his arms. “Put me down!”

Alhaitham wordlessly releases Kaveh, who lands butt-first on the very cold marble floor.

“What is wrong with you?” Kaveh yells, scrambling to stand up. He jabs Alhaitham in the chest as he rambles.

“Why would you even drop me like that?! And don’t ask me to promise something if you aren’t going to believe me, asshole!”

Alhaitham just smiles at him.

“What?” Kaveh snaps.

“Feeling better already, I see.”

“You—” Kaveh feels his face burn red with embarrassment. Finally accepting that he has lost, he huffily towels himself off and tucks himself into one side of Alhaitham’s bed, laying on his side and pretending to sleep.

After a few minutes, he feels the mattress sink down behind him as Alhaitham gets into bed. He slings an arm over Kaveh’s body. A comforting weight, reassuring Kaveh that he’s not alone.

“Sweet dreams, Kaveh.”

Kaveh stays still for a moment, until he’s sure Alhaitham is asleep.

Then, he holds Alhaitham’s hand and kisses his palm.

“Thank you,” he breathes into it. In response, he feels a kiss against the back of his neck.

Goddamn it. He just can’t win against Alhaitham.

But then Alhaitham’s fingers curl tighter around his own.

Warmth pools in Kaveh’s chest. He intertwines their fingers and thinks to himself, “Maybe it’s for the best.”

may i request a some 4ggravate shenanigans? i would love to see what would happen with both haikaveh and cynonari in the mix! :D

My requests aren't actually open at the moment, though I plan on opening them again as soon as I've worked through my current backlog of wips. But!! I absolutely want to write 4ggravate at some point!! They're such a fun group of friends, and they have sooooo much fic potential! I definitely want to get a feel for writing Alhaitham and Kaveh, and start writing fics with all four of the boys, it'll be so much fun!

I do have a bit of a backlog I just want to work through first, but once I'm through that?? Absolutely playing with some 4ggravate scenarios! I'm actually really excited, if a little nervous, at the prospect of writing them!

Maybe I should start doing headcanons and throwing around ideas in the meantime 👀

Chapter 6: Broken dreams. A #haikaveh and #cynonari fic.

Dreams have always been part of Kaveh's life.

Even if Sumeru citizens, and overall scholars, used to like to brag about not dreaming at all, Kaveh always went in reverse. He did not dream, yes, but that wasn't an impediment for him.

Dreams are not only there when you sleep, but also when you're wide awake. Since he was a kid, Kaveh could picture impossible scenarios in his head without the necessity of sleeping. Give him a pencil and paper, and he will show you his dreams right there.

But he knows his case is not the common thing. With the Akademiya insisting on and on about the "righteousness" of studies being everything but those related to the arts, Kaveh had seen his dreams broken and broken once again. Yet, he never gave up.

Faded Lips, Red (Haikaveh)

Somehow, the noise was even getting through his headphones. This was a mistake. This was all a mistake. Agreeing to come here was a bad idea. He had to get someplace different. Someplace quiet and reserved.

The bathroom.

That’s right. Perhaps the dorm’s bathroom would be open. He could sort out his thoughts and calm down. His body was antsy with overstimulation as he dove through the crowd, trying not to break down. Thankfully, he had memorized the location of the bathroom, predicting this exact scenario. If only he had simply gone home then.

Thankfully, he survived the push through the drunken students. He lurched forward and anxiously tested the knob. To his relief, it opened. He pushed through and quickly locked it behind him, letting out a shaky sigh.

What he didn’t expect to see, however, was someone else inside the bathroom.
