We are not judging how bad the movie is, we are judging which adapted the book the worst. There are good movies that are bad adaptions.
Propaganda below the cut (spoilers may apply)
Tales From Earthsea:
I don't think it could have been better, but it was just so off from from the books it was mainly drawing its inspiration from (I mean, I had no interest in seeing that weird weaver guy decide to off himself in the boat, but still).
Studio Ghibli is the perfect studio to capture the Le Guin vibe and yet Goro torched it so hard for no reason
To give credit where it is due, the film has some good settings and animation. Unfortunately, its beauty is only on the surface, and it is the worst Studio Ghibli movie I’ve seen. (I’ve seen almost all of them but Earwig and the Witch.) The plot is a collage of random bits of context from the first four books of the series, as well as its own stuff. It really is not the same story at all. I may have enjoyed it more if I had seen it as a child before reading the books, but not covering all the events exactly isn’t the only issue, it’s just worse. It takes the moral complexity and sensibility of the original and turns it into a typical fantasy war between good and evil (the Japanese title even translates to Ged’s War Chronicles) with emphasis on physical violence, in which evil is personified as a goth queer-coded villain whose death resolves everything. It completely misses the point of the books, which gives no such simple answers and is more focused on the darkness within everyone than an external battle. Where is the nuance? It also whitewashes everyone: most of the characters in the book are dark-skinned, but in the movie…
I was also bitter that they did my favourite character, Tehanu/Therru, dirty. She’s supposed to be horribly scarred and disfigured on half her body and reviled by people as a monster but in the movie she’s just a pretty girl with a red mark on her face. In the books, she doesn’t appear until the fourth book, Tehanu, which takes place after Lebannen is grown up and ruling a kindgom, and in which she is a mostly-nonverbal child. But here she’s aged up and thrown into the earlier story to give the protagonist a love interest and the film has him stay with them so it can focus on their romance. Even though a plot-relevant part of his character as well is his lack of interest in women and not settling into a relationship despite the people’s wishes.
Basically, they whitewashed, heteronormatized, macho-ified, and de-nuanced the narrative, and also took out the feminism.
On top of this, trying to cram the whole series into one movie is just not a good idea, and it would have been better to just decide on one book to adapt and do more justice. And yet they still added in so much that didn’t happen. When you have that much material to cover, you don’t have time or budget to be putting other things in, mate. Turning four books into one results both in a mess. Abridgment is one thing; taking particular aspects of different parts of the timeline and combining them in different ways is another. It doesn’t make a lot of sense. It’s in an unfortunate middle area where it doesn’t follow the source material but also doesn’t give enough context that people unfamiliar with the source understand. For Earthsea fans, it’s infuriating; for others, it’s confusing. Also, why did they name it after the fifth book, which is a short story collection that it doesn’t reference whatsoever?
The failure of the movie is upsetting because the books are sooo good. Yet, it was the highest-grossing Japanese movie of the year, and did win a couple awards… The Bunshun Kiichigo awards for “Worst Director” and “Worst Movie”.
The Golden Compass:
The Golden Compass isn't even the title of the book! It's called Northern Lights! And now there are editions of the book with the wrong title on them. Enfuriating. Anyways, the movie tries to follow the books story and fails completely because they don't kill off a character because they wanted a happy ending when that character being dead is crucial to the story in the third book. Also they made Mrs. Coulter blonde. Unforgivable.
They remove the ending of the book so it has a happy ending and I guess leave it for a better beginning to the second movie, only of course they never made a second movie cause the first one bombed. They also rearranged the order of the events, and, more importantly, made it lose its bite by removing darker elements and removing explicit critique of the catholic church by making the antagonistic magisterium way more generic
Terrible movie. The acting is awful, especially Mrs. Coulter, whose character in the books is chilling because of her smooth, sweet nature that belies a deep sinister calucating mind. Plus they butchered the story and took out any mention of the church as the main villain for fear of offending Christians. This ultimately defeats the purpose of the book. I hate this movie so much it's unreal

It's been a really long time since I've been here, life has just been too busy and tiring. I haven't even been able to draw I'm so sorry. Can I ask for two?
PC with a flu or high fever with Eden and Trauma induced Eden insisting on going out to work or sell products to earn money to pay Bailey given that they're already permitted by Eden to go back to town every now and then and that Eden didn't directly buy PC from Bailey. Take your time imma just be here sick in bed.
Hey! So sorry this took so long! I hope you're doing much better now. And don't worry about not having done art! We all work at our own paces, don't push yourself to create when you don't have the will to.
I think I've already covered PC with a sickness, and how Eden is a stern but attentive caretaker. We can see this when there's pass out events at the cabin. They bring you in, put you to bed. After the pred/prey scene they even get you water. So Eden would likely work as normal, but come in to check on you every so often. Get you a drink or a snack. If you're well enough, you can do small indoor chores. If not, sleep as much as is needed.
As for traumatised Eden at the market? Mmmm that good. That's a yummy one. Note: when I say that it's often about horrible things, isn't it? Double note: Lynx would be Axe body spray to the 'Muricans.
Oh - warning for mentions of past non-con btw.
There's too much noise. It burrows into his brain, denying any attempts to drown out the calls of purveyors of goods around him. Calling out their produce, prices, how long they'd be there.
There's a baby crying. Wailing as it's father talks on the phone and half-asses shushing it by waving a toy in its face while he isn't even looking at the babe.
There's so many smells he swears they're causing him a headache. Food. Sweat. Some abhorrent chemical smell as a group of teenage boys pass. He remembers Lynx. Remembers the locker rooms at school.
There's eyes everywhere. Blue, green, brown. He thought he saw red at one point. No- no he definitely did. There's a group of goths wandering around. Probably one of them with contact lenses. Eden could swear he feels at least one pair of eyes on him each and every second.
Scant few customers come to his stall. Its mostly older patrons: elderly craftspeople who still practise their trades as the youth buy from companies; aspiring chefs excited to grill up some real game; this one old man who always shows up for the dried back-strap. Eden doesn't remember his name, but the man swears by the stuff. Says Eden comes with the best stock and those other hunters bring bare scraps. Not a surprise, he's seen the incompetence of others who come through the forest.
He swears he can hear laughter amongst the throngs of people. Swears that it must be directed at him. His ugly face. His huge body. His clothing, old and patched. But he has to stay. Has to do it for you. To keep you safe and out of Bailey's money machine.
He wished you were here. Wished you'd come bounding up to him with that smile of yours and drag him home. But you're also at work, coralling dogs at the pound for spare change to contribute to Eden's payments to Bailey. Apparently the mutts listen now that you smell like him. Funny thing, how he affects animals. Even dumbass chickens hate him. He'd considered getting some once, but they'd get so stressed around him they wouldn't be able to lay any eggs. Oh, and foxes could take them.
Best to stay there, in those inconsequential memories of the past. It's hard to when he sees a face that surges horrid memories to the front instead. The man looked to be about 70 by this point, wobbling around with a cane. He'd already been grey when they'd met.
"Got any boar meat, lad?" He wheezed, bug-like eyes pooring over the table. His voice was weaker than it had been. There's no flicker of recognition in the freaky eyes.
"A few cuts. Belly or back? I've got hooves, too." Eden's voice doesn't break. Doesn't show his rising panic.
A claw-like hand reaches out to where Eden directed his attention. A shiver goes down the hunter's spine. He remembers those hands. How clammy and cold they'd been. How... insistent and encompassing.
"Aye, this one's a good heavy steak. How much?"
Eden's eyes didn't leave the old man's face. "Freshest cut, got the beast last night. £5."
The old man licks his lips as he pries his wallet free, the appendage dried, cracked and pale. Just like the rest of him. He'd had a tan back then. A terrible, fake one. Fucker had been orange.
Teens ran past once more, barely missing the old man as they screamed. The crypt-bound bag of bones scoffed, disgust apparent. But his eyes linger too long on one of the older boys, with longer dark hair and a skinny frame, just about old enough to start drinking Eden thinks.
Attention soon returned to the hunter, the smile back. Oh look, he'd kept half of his teeth. Impressive for someone his age. They were rotted, though. More so than they had been when he'd visited the orphanage. Probably time for dentures. Eden could still remember the smell of his breath.
"£5, a good price for a good steak. My wife will fry this up well." He's laughing. Eden grants him a polite smile as he wraps up the meat and hands it over.
He tracks the old man as he leaves, watching as his thumb strokes over the paper bill in his hand. He doesn't take a deep breath until he knows he's gone. He can't take a deep breath until he knows, for sure, that he's gone.
£2.50 was what he'd payed for Eden back then.

Okay, hello! We have really never used Tumblr before, well, this week (for all you "you're from Tumblr" folk) but here we go!
We are a traumagenic DID system with severe CPTSD and PTSD. Our collective pronouns are phe/phex/phins, based off the word "phoenix", and yes you can use them, we have been posted on LibsOfTikTok and been harrassed for them. We have autism, ADHD, NPD, BPD, MADD, and a couple other things (a lot of it led to each other.) We're also legally blind and yes us needing glasses is a disability, we currently have undiagnosed breathing issues, and we have seizures, usually as a response to trauma. We're gay, an adult, Elfkin/Angelkin/Fallenkin/Deitykin/Alienkin, a femboy, transmasc, and some form of intersex :)
We currently live in New Zealand, and we're "NZ European," although we're not entirely sure where our family comes from. Some were Romani, a lot were Bulgarian, some were Celtic, apparently? We hope to look into it further at some some point.
We currently live with our abusers! We hope to move out by the end of 2023, when our mother's legal control over us ends (she has control because we're disabled, also yay.) Until then, we live at home in a single small room with our husband @theharbingerofxhaos . We can't get a job because we're considered a danger to the workplace, so we're relying on our wife's benefit to live until we're able to get on our own (love you Chaos xoxoxoxo)
We stream on Twitch sometimes! We hope to post art on BlueSky and used to post on DeviantArt! We post about plurality on Twitter, we post about Otherkinity on Reddit, we post about real life shit on Instagram, and we post what's supposed to be cosplay on TikTok! Uhh - we write stuff, we draw stuff, we cosplay sometimes, we walk around dressed as a goth, we own really dumb cats, we used to do.. a lot of dance, we sing, we guess? We might start SW stuff in the future, too. We hope to properly study psychology at some point, and we're doing some on-and-off psychology stuff right now, but money.
And we guess we should mention this, but we support, well, stuff that other folks might not support, we've never really specified exactly everything we support and what we're against. We don't have a DNI except for those really annoying kids who go "not reading all that" (mostly /s, but please don't waste our time :(
We will specify, however, that we do support mspec lesbians/gays and pronouns not equaling gender, because no, they aren't hurting anyone, and yes, they've been in history forever, and no, mspec does not mean male-spectrum, and yes, being against them is being against plurality as they're a part of nearly every system even of you don't realise it. And yes, we used "plurality" because being anti-endogenic systems and non-traumagenic plurality is racist and endorsing colonisation.
That's all we can think of, so a little intro for our alters at the time of writing this, since we've never done it before. Not complete list, we don't name some trauma holders and our littles :)

Crimson: red/reds, 22, "Royal Dragon Celestial" (no, we don't know what it means either), persecutor. Bit of a dick, really, but can be pretty sweet, just please, don't annoy them. Also incredibly femboy gay.
Desmond: he/him, 27, a variation of Desmond from Assassin's Creed in that he describes himself as a "Templar God," protector/persecutor. A little bit stupid, has horrible dress sense, tells everyone he's straight when he really is not.
Elliot: he/him, 29, he's Elliot from Stardew Valley and looks identical, protector. Very serious, no fun, very autistic.
Katharos: xe/xyr/xyrself, 27, a Fallen Angel (profile picture), old host for a long time, persecutor. Doesn't come out a lot due to some undisclosed reasons, can be sweet or very rude.
Khaos: dre/dren, 16, Abyssal Dragon, protector. Very, very hyper, no filter at all.
Lotor: he/him/her (not she), 10k+/ageless, we had a horrifically intense hyperfixation on Voltron Legendary Defender for years and this is the result, caretaker. Overly serious but can be fun sometimes, not a fan of his source material.
Marcus: he/him, 38, Moon Knight, persecutor. Very stupid, blunt, rude, and an asshole (and the one writing this)
Nightsong: she/they, 48 or 4000, an altered demon-y factive from our past life, protector. Incredibly blunt and dresses in a very revealing fashion.
Rakan: he/him/nyc/nycto, 39, Hellhound, protector/persecutor. Tiny bit stupid, very sweet, very protective, and very gay.
Sombra: voi/void/voids, 32, floating piece of void that looks sort of like a biblically accurate angel, gatekeeper, and maybe current host. Original asshole, nicknamed asshole, very much assholy.
Tim(e): he/him, ageless, an altered angel-like factive from our past life, self-helper. Very autistic.
Tristan: it/its, 16, an ocean and also somehow Scandroid's cover of Thriller, gatekeeper of our non-traumagenic subsystem. Hyper, strange, doesn't front a lot.
Zalaph: lun/luna/lunself, ageless, a shadow, persecutor. Hasn't been out a lot but very lesbian.

Saw a couple super super cool Mechanisms OC arts and listen I can't draw BUT I do write so of course I have a couple OCs for that universe so respectively I want to ramble about my main mechanized character.
I'm horrible at consistent back stories but the gist is that she ended up being a eat-the-rich Robinhood sorta person and got to kill a couple evil higher ups before her own over the top death (she was shot in the neck with an arrow and fell over a cliff into the sea. Is that dramatic enough to warrant a song?)
So yeah her mechanism is her whole neck (which is an idea that came to mine purely for the excuse of something that looks like those blackout neck makeup looks so she's just goth totally not immortal and part machine) though I like the idea of having certain visible pieces replaced (fingertips, ears, etc) due to hypothermia but that's just for funsies.
Also she fought in the war that took place in OUAT(IS) after mechanization but before meeting any other immortals bc slicing up rose reds is cheaper than therapy. (Also she definitely drunkenly preformed "Our Boy Jack" multiple times during the war like s fucked up dnd bard.)
If ever joined the crew of the Aurora would have a room full of the stuff she's collected from travels (so would both get along with and argue with Ivy plenty) and would immediately jump on the chance to earn the title crew's seamstress of all things bc the amount of clothes everyone on board goes through is abhorrent and the one time she snuck into a ball made her miss fancy clothes. (Jonny would probably say seamstress isn't intimidating or badass enough a title so she sews his mouth shut in his sleep. Gets shot a couple times for it.)
She/they, prefers blades to guns, ace and panromantic, probably has bonus tragic backstory like a fallen lover.

Hello again yes I am active so suddenly and stuff but I jus gotta let everyone hear my minds thoughts and let them make speculations of their own 😭
Also, fair warning canon 😨! And opinions and inlook 😭!
So my friend kept talking about this and I realized smth..
1. Some ship kids in Undertale fandom need justice(I think y’all know who I am talkin about cuz I mentioned them before-
These are mainly my own opinions as well as speculations from canon!!
Alr so: Lurik is cute to people but you have realized that Lotus only has some drawings and words said by Nekophy for their entire person.. so does Goth shshshsh-
And Rurik actually has more stuff on them as well as development and a personality. Lotus and Rurik were cute while it lasted.. kinda- but it ultimately was toxic and a really bad relationship for Rurik and Lotus’s mental health.
If I would have assumed Lotus to date anyone I’d say Ray(friends made the speculations and idea of the two and it’s so adorable!)
Rurik and Dante were infact adorable as they lasted, even if in some points it could be written as toxic or a very obsessive relationship Dante had character and actual funny things to him! And I am saying canonically I have heard some people say Dante and Due had no development yet they have so much more than Lotus and Goth.. Goths entire personality was, and from everything I read and know, to love Palette and keep it one sided while having a cringe romance that Palette never actually reciprocated.
For Lotus and Rurik it was for Lotus to just be a fell version of Goth that was the same but ultimately Lotus was exactly like Goth just harsh and in the end made Rurik feel untrusted and disliked, which was mutual, and caused him to go to Dante.
Remember: Fell versions aren’t perfect and never come from good lives. It takes time and canonically Lotus never genuinely grew while Rurik soared and grew up- even PHYSICALLY
Which I’ma poke at- canonically every art of Goth and Lotus show them small and that’s their forever height to physically look like kids.. imagine them all grown up and you see Rurik or Palette with the physically small Lotus and Goth 😭.
Not hating, headcanons and fanon exist but until I see Nekophy finally put a blessed hand onto Goth and Lotus their characters will never grow older than who they were no matter how much you wanna wish.
And no matter how much some of you wish Dante and Due are so much better than Goth and Lotus. I know some people ship Palette, Goth and Due which that’s super cool and inclusive! Who knows maybe Due can charm Goth into actually being open and no longer secretive and keeping Palette’s innocence? It could work!
Doubt for Lotus, Rurik and Dante though- I’d need to see a long history of growth with them as they are fell variants..
But yeah. I know that some people showed hate to Keko, the creator of Due and Dante and it’s just horrible and wrong! Even people showed a hate towards Ange with Palette and Rurik. They are allowed to develop and grow their characters and the creators have made mistakes it’s life you can grow from them and the creators DID grow and they are still growing. Their human. And yet I never saw people ever go to Nekophy and yes. Nekophy has made a lot of mistakes yet basically never grew or tried apologizing for them just changed their everything.. I am not hating. Do think hard because I love every creator and ship kid- well, kinda all creators- and I wanna see more growth and development for our beloved ship kids! Their creators hold the pencil, pen or stylus to make the characters good and I am happy to watch and learn about them! Their flaws, backstories and all!
It’s sad that Goth and Lotus don’t genuinely have a stable one or any reference sheet made. But it’s fine! I am just glad I don’t call headcanons or my ideas canon for them because sometimes you gotta accept what your given ☺️!

Goth. I'm a goth who also dresses up. I listen to mainly Siouxsie and the Banshees because Cities of the Dust and Melt gets me in my feels.
Just like other goths, of course I listen to other things. I also listen to Ghost. A lot of my friends are metal heads so I listen to metal. Yes, Slipknot is up there. Some emo bands as well since a close friend is emo. Melanie Martinez too. Duh.

We are not judging how bad the movie is, we are judging which adapted the book the worst. There are good movies that are bad adaptions.
Propaganda below the cut (spoilers may apply)
Animorphs:
Didn't have the budget to do literally anything the books were doing, and it shows. Also the central theme of the books wasn't even touched on.
A low-budget kids' show was absolutely the worst and most embarrassing way to adapt a semi-serialized, somewhat serious (but, y'know, in a YA way) drama about war and how it changes those who participate in it. It never goes into the ethical questions or moral issues that the original book series brings up, and the violence is toned down a lot. They just didn't have the money for the special effects you'd need for a story with so many different alien races (Taxxons, one of the main types of alien employed by the enemy yeerks, are never even mentioned!), nor for the animal training/handling for so many different species that the characters are constantly morphing into. I get that they were doing the best they could for the time and medium, but it ended up being a giant embarrassment. :(
Only one season, poorly written
Tales from Earthsea:
I don't think it could have been better, but it was just so off from from the books it was mainly drawing its inspiration from (I mean, I had no interest in seeing that weird weaver guy decide to off himself in the boat, but still).
Studio Ghibli is the perfect studio to capture the Le Guin vibe and yet Goro torched it so hard for no reason
To give credit where it is due, the film has some good settings and animation. Unfortunately, its beauty is only on the surface, and it is the worst Studio Ghibli movie I’ve seen. (I’ve seen almost all of them but Earwig and the Witch.) The plot is a collage of random bits of context from the first four books of the series, as well as its own stuff. It really is not the same story at all. I may have enjoyed it more if I had seen it as a child before reading the books, but not covering all the events exactly isn’t the only issue, it’s just worse. It takes the moral complexity and sensibility of the original and turns it into a typical fantasy war between good and evil (the Japanese title even translates to Ged’s War Chronicles) with emphasis on physical violence, in which evil is personified as a goth queer-coded villain whose death resolves everything. It completely misses the point of the books, which gives no such simple answers and is more focused on the darkness within everyone than an external battle. Where is the nuance? It also whitewashes everyone: most of the characters in the book are dark-skinned, but in the movie…
I was also bitter that they did my favourite character, Tehanu/Therru, dirty. She’s supposed to be horribly scarred and disfigured on half her body and reviled by people as a monster but in the movie she’s just a pretty girl with a red mark on her face. In the books, she doesn’t appear until the fourth book, Tehanu, which takes place after Lebannen is grown up and ruling a kindgom, and in which she is a mostly-nonverbal child. But here she’s aged up and thrown into the earlier story to give the protagonist a love interest and the film has him stay with them so it can focus on their romance. Even though a plot-relevant part of his character as well is his lack of interest in women and not settling into a relationship despite the people’s wishes.
Basically, they whitewashed, heteronormatized, macho-ified, and de-nuanced the narrative, and also took out the feminism.
On top of this, trying to cram the whole series into one movie is just not a good idea, and it would have been better to just decide on one book to adapt and do more justice. And yet they still added in so much that didn’t happen. When you have that much material to cover, you don’t have time or budget to be putting other things in, mate. Turning four books into one results both in a mess. Abridgment is one thing; taking particular aspects of different parts of the timeline and combining them in different ways is another. It doesn’t make a lot of sense. It’s in an unfortunate middle area where it doesn’t follow the source material but also doesn’t give enough context that people unfamiliar with the source understand. For Earthsea fans, it’s infuriating; for others, it’s confusing. Also, why did they name it after the fifth book, which is a short story collection that it doesn’t reference whatsoever?
The failure of the movie is upsetting because the books are sooo good. Yet, it was the highest-grossing Japanese movie of the year, and did win a couple awards… The Bunshun Kiichigo awards for “Worst Director” and “Worst Movie”.

As The Kirumi Blog, I think you're the right person to send an ask about this. How do you think Korekiyo and Kirumi would fare together as friends? What would they think is remarkable or strange about each other? What sort of stuff would they have conversations about and bond over? What things would they enjoy doing together? Stuff like that
I personally think there's a huge potential in something like that, so I thought it would be cool to see what the resident Kirumi understander would have to say on the matter
hmhmhm! you have come to the right place, my friend. 🖤 i adore the korekiyo & kirumi friendship dynamic, i turn it around in my head frequently.
kirumi’s a naturally good listener, and that immediately draws korekiyo to her. he likes to talk about his studies and think out loud in ways that other people find creepy and off-putting, but kirumi is very hard to faze. he appreciates feeling listened to.
likewise, kirumi enjoys learning about other cultures and things like that. every small piece of information about, say, meal customs is valuable to her. she admires his expertise and dedication.
they have tea together sometimes and talk about the history of the specific blend they’re drinking.
korekiyo is also fascinated by kirumi as an individual—her devotion to her work, her poised and quiet nature. he’s naturally curious, after all. he cannot help but want to learn more about what’s going on in her head. she doesn’t like the prying—finds it uncomfortable when people try to peek below the surface, she has horrible trust issues—so they learn over time to strike a balance where he’s not quite so invasive and she’s not quite so guarded. because, well, when he’s not squeezing her like a snake for information, his company is quite enjoyable.
and then, of course, later down the line, when they’ve actually gotten to know each other quite well, the similarities come out.
they both define themselves almost entirely based upon how they relate to others (or, in korekiyo’s case, one other person) and struggle to see themselves outside of this framework. they also both have very interesting ideas about the self and selfishness—the inherently selfish motivations behind selflessness—which, after a lotttt of personal work, i think they could learn more about from each other.
it’s a quiet friendship. it’s marked by long conversations in which neither ever really says exactly what they mean, and that’s okay. they’re both extremely perceptive.
korekiyo also doesn’t have any objections to kirumi Serving him, which she finds relieving, but he does still encourage her to sit and talk with him rather than being on her feet all the time. it’s a different approach than what some of her other friends take to try and get her to relax, but it works most of the time.
anyways, yes. i think they could make good friends. funny, even-voiced goth duo with pretty eyeliner and straight spines.

Sometimes if I have to change details about my cosplay due to budgetary restraints or for the sake of comfort, I'll draw it to try out my set-up before I go buying stuff. For example, I'm avoiding wigs this year cause I've been increasingly prone to migraines. ಥ_ಥ
