Who is more dangerous: «Kaz&Nikolai» team or «Suli Queens» team? You know the answer.
Kaz: they're going to make the whole world kneel.
Nikolai: we have two options. get out of their way or kneel like everyone else.
Kaz: second one.
Zoya and Inej: *staying terrifyingly calm after someone said, that women can't lead*
... sorry for mistakes, it isn't my native language...

I think I am oddly obsessed with "imagining historical AUs as backstory tied to an equally fictional object that has survived to our age." Like. I think all of my AUs, if written, should start in an archive or a museum or in a family home with public heirlooms and we hear of the object that survived before we hear the stories in all the details that don't.

In praise of Sulis
(Adapted from Orphic Hymn #8 to Helios)
Hear, golden Goddess, whose eternal eye
with broad survey illumines all the sky,
self-born, unweary'd in diffusing light,
and to all eyes the mirror of delight.
Maiden of the seasons, holy star,
from darkness hope comes beaming from afar,
with thy right hand the source of morning light,
and with thy left unconquered queen of night.
Your march agile and vigorous, radiant sun,
round heaven's course with haste and might you run.
Foe to the wicked, but the good soul's guide,
o'er all steps to the good you do preside.
With precious waters, Shining Queen, tis thine,
to gift unto the world healing divine.
Mother of ages, guide of prosperous deeds,
holy seer, from whom clear sight proceeds,
Sulis Invicta, all-seeing, bearing light,
source of existence, pure and fiery bright,
friend of crops, immortal queen of years,
strong and warm, whom ev'ry power reveres.
Great eye of heaven and the starry skies,
fated with eternal flame to set and rise,
dispensing justice, truth from you dost stream,
the world's great star, and o'er all supreme.
Faithful defender, and the eye of right,
of days the ruler, and of life the light.
From sacred springs pour blessings great and pure,
to each soul peace, and for each ill a cure.
Propitious on these humble labours shine,
and bless thy suppliants with life divine.

Bronze Head of Sulis Minerva from the Bath, England dated to the Late 1st Century on display at the Roman Baths Museum in Bath, England
This bronze head was discovered in 1727 and was an early indication that the Roman site at Bath was not a typical settlement. Gilt bronze sculptures are rare finds from Roman Britain as only two other fragments are known.
The head is probably from the cult statue of the goddess which would have stood within her Temple beside the Sacred Spring. From there she may have looked out across the Temple courtyard to the site of the great altar, the site of sacrifice, which stood at the heart of that sacred space.  The statue may well be an original object from the foundation of the site in the later first century CE, which means that it was probably well over 300 years old when it met its demise.
The head is slightly larger than life size, suggesting that the original statue was an imposing sight. Hidden in the hair line are several small holes which once held rivets that fixed her tall Corinthian helmet to her head.
Examination of the head has revealed that it has six layers of gilding.  The first two use a technique known as fire gilding whilst the four later layers are applied as gold leaf.  The head has a number of imperfections. There is corrosion which has affected it in parts where it lay in the ground for over a thousand years.  There is also a strange rectangular cut beneath the chin.  It is thought that this may result from a flaw in the original casting process in which a bubble on the surface may have been cut out and filled with an inserted plate.  When gilded over it would not have been visible.  This plate has subsequently fallen out as a result of corrosion whilst in the ground.

The Ea-Nasir meme reminds me of how in Bath, England, there's the famous Roman Baths. If you ever visit, they have displays of all these prayer tablets that were found in the spring of the goddess Sulis Minerva, where people tossed them into the waters to ask for aid.
Tumblr media
And like, 90% of the ones I remember being on display went something like:
"Someone stole my cloak while I was bathing and I would like you to punish them with blood and plague unless it is returned by Thursday"
"Please place a curse upon Bob, who took my gloves while I was bathing, thank you"
"I lost six silver coins in the baths and it was definitely stolen by either Steve or Joe or Peter, please bring your divine wrath upon the head of either Steve or Joe or Peter for this terrible deed"
Because people have always been people, and we have always needed a way to complain about the petty daily bullshit we have to put up with
(You can read more of them here on Wikipedia)

Godly Parents: SoC edition
(Lil disclaimer: This is not necessarily PJO's meaning of Godly Parent. It's just basically a "Which God is your godly parent" buzzfeed quiz but with actual information-)
Kaz: Nemesis, Goddess of indignation against, and retribution for, evil deeds and undeserved good fortune. Kaz spent the entire two books and the bigger part of his life holding grudges and planning his revenge on an arrogant man who got away with destroying a bunch of people's lives. He makes it his life mission to make him pay for his crimes.
Inej: Hermes, Messenger of the gods; god of travel, commerce, communication, borders, eloquence, diplomacy and thieves. First of all, Inej is Suli. Suli people are known to be "nomads", travelling from place to place. Second, Kaz hired her to be his spider, to collect and deliver important information, a messenger of some kind. And a detail I particularly liked is the whole thing with the shoes. Hermes most characteristic item are his flying sandals; and Inej is also particularly fond of her climbing leather slippers.
Jesper: Hephaestus, God of the forge, craftsmanship, invention, fire, metallurgy and volcanoes, craftsman of the gods. Yeah, yeah. The obvious reason is in fact because Jesper is a Fabrikator. He literally controls metal. If it's parental issues we're talking about, well, we all know how that went for both of them.
Wylan: Apollo, God of Sun, light, prophecy, philosophy, archery, truth, inspiration, poetry, music, arts, manly beauty, medicine, healing, and plague. "Because of Wylan Van Suns-?" *slap* Shut up, that was literally sarcasm. Wylan's story and latter fate begins because of a music conservatory, and music really played such a big part in his own story as well as his story with Jesper (ehem, piano incident). Also, bit of a fun fact, Apollo is supposedly the creator of the flute so there you go. Another literal thing is that he created a fake plague to help Kaz.
Nina: Hecate, Goddess of the dead's souls, witchcraft and divination. (Matthias would be so happy for the whole witchcraft thing). I don't think I have to elaborate on this one, but just a reminder that Nina can in fact control dead bodies.
Matthias: Hestia, Goddess of the hearth, fire and of the right ordering of domesticity and the family. *Introduces really gut-wrenching line from chapter 40 of Crooked Kingdom about how he finally could go back home*. I know it's kinda ironic that Matthias is from an icy country and Hestia is the Goddess of the fire, but no one said this was a perfect analysis (do I look like Rick Riordan to you?). Matthias was all about family values and homeland really, even if they meant different things at the beginning and at the end of Matthias' story. First it was his bio family, whose death ignited his hatred for the Grisha and his home was Fjerda. But in the end, the Crows became his family, the family he gave his life for, the same way Nina became his home.
