Prompt 41
Hear me out, DP and DC crossover where Scarecrow is cousins with the Fentons.
His mother was siblings with Jack’s father, and both Jazz and Danny met ‘Uncle Jonathan’ during one of the many Fenton-Nightingale family reunions that happens every few years. Honestly, perhaps it’s what gets Jazz interested in psychology, hearing from her ‘uncle’ about fear and its effects.
And honestly once they start having to deal with ghosts and having had to deal with their parents for years it’s not really hard to talk with their uncle. Crane still doesn’t know how he became these kids’ favorite uncle, or even all of the family kids’ favorite uncle-cousin, but that’s just how the family is.
Really he’s not even the only villain of the family, with both Jack and Maddie being close but not quite, even if they’re definitely mad scientists. Their son becoming a local hero, even if they’re not aware of that fact, is just ironic.
John knows. The two kids told him when they found out that Danny may or may not need to feed on fear now that he’s half ghost, and well he’s the specialist about the emotion so…
At least they have someone to stay with when Jazz goes to Gotham university and brings Danny with her, even if the local vigilantes are concerned as to why Scarecrow attacks have suddenly took a nosedive…

You know that fic trope where Danny has to be near a portal because the ambient ectoplasm sustains/recharges him etc etc and if he’s too far or away for too long he gets tired and weak
What if we had the opposite: he needs to visit the GZ or be near a portal because he generates more energy internally than his body can handle, and it needs somewhere to go.
If he doesn’t have that outlet, his powers go haywire. It’s like the beginning of Urban Jungle where his ice powers are overloading, but it’s not restricted to the ice

✨Rewriting the Daniel Masters AU ✨
(a little less sleep deprived this time, here's the og sleep deprived post )
So the whole premise of this AU is that Vlad's main obsession was getting revenge on jack (in the og post I said it was family but I'm changing it a bit here) and a ghost's main job is to fulfill their obsession right? That's how they grow stronger, that's how they survive and even half ghosts are no different.
But let's just say that being half ghost does make your obsession have a little less control over you, which is why Vlad isn't straight up trying to kill Jack from the get go.
So Vlad just kidnaps toddler Danny
His whole plan was to kidnap Danny, turn hik into a halfa too and then raise him as his son and bask in Jack's sorrow– the only problem is that his portal isn't complete yet.
It takes exactly one year to complete the portal. By the end of it, Vlad and Danny have bonded a lot, with a lot of tired dad and chaos badger shenanigans to show for it. (And unbeknownst to him, his obsession slowly shifts from revenge to family)
And Vlad finds he can't go through with his plan anymore. Maybe it's because he genuinely cares for Danny. Maybe because he's learned to love Danny like a son. Maybe it's because he remembers what it was like when he was slowly inching towards death in a hospital ward.
Whatever the reason, he can't do it.
And so he doesn't.
Life moves on, Vlad and Danny grow together until Daniel's 14th birthday, when he finds a secret room in his basement and it all comes crashing down.
Turns out, Vlad never fully disabled the portal.

And here we are with EctoImplosion fic 2!
To Sing The Stars
Danny thought the troubles he faced when developing ice powers were the last he was going to have to worry about his Core's maturation. As it turns out, an Elemental affinity isn't the final stage of a ghost Core's development. Thankfully, Danny knows who to turn to this time when his Core begins shifting gravity around him. Some parts of fanon: Danny's heart doesn't need to beat because he's part ghost so it sometimes stops and he ANGSTS about it
Me, whose headcanons about half-ghost biology are incompatible with this idea: Poor Danny. He has a heart condition his ghost half won't let him die from but doesn't know how to fix. He won't even go to a half-ghost friendly doctor about it because he's not sure if it's a problem or a normal thing.

I guess, one day halfas have to find a simple way to hide their ectoaura from hunters nerby (mostly: Jack and Maddie). I'd suggest for Vlad to possess the indicator with by a weak clone. We don't know how good Danny will be in cloning (my hc: 4 is forming except snow and ice is too tough for him), but he can try to decrease temperature around the indicator.
What would you suggest for them?
A way for Vlad and Danny to hide their ecto-signatures (spectral frequencies) from ghost-detecting technology, correct?
I think it would be a simple matter—at least in theory—of masking their ghost signatures by using their human signatures as a shield. Basically just like signal jammers. I imagine Vlad already knows how to do this, which is why Danny's ghost sense has never gone off when Plasmius was nearby*.
I think Vlad would be willing to teach Danny this trick—for a price, of course.
Tumblr media
*I'm 99% sure of this, but I haven't checked all the Vlad episodes yet.

My Headcanon for Liminals
I've been having a lot of fun posting headcanons, and I'm starting to realize just how many I've built up over the years, so here's another one.
So I've stated before that part of the reason why Danny and Vlad are so different is because Danny was inside of a portal when it turned on whereas Vlad just got a face full of energized Ectoplasm and other assorted nastiness. The still human and already ghostly halves of Danny fused into a cohesive whole in order to survive the opening of the portal and continued supporting eachother. Vlad's human half forcibly integrated his resistant ghost half as it formed in an effort to survive. Rather than a cohesive whole, Vlad is two dischordant halves.
That said, I do not consider Vlad's state the default result of humans being exposed to ectoplasm.
Part of it is because the exposure was violent and his human body was so incredibly unwell that it made sense for the part of him with less emotional attachment to it to want to escape. This illness did not stem directly from the ectoplasm. We know this much because other people exposed to ectoplasm did not get ecto-acne, and figuring out the involvement of the cola was what allowed the Fentons to cure it.
Part of it is because Vlad has a superiority complex. This means that, in any given state, Vlad considers his current way of being superior. As a human, Vlad considers humanity superior. As a ghost, Vlad considers ghosts superior. This leads to a whole lot of clash between the parts of his psyche which each consider the other half to be lesser. Combine this with the fact that each half despises the illness and associates the illness with the other half, and you get a whole lot of internal toxicity.
For the average person with ectoplasm exposure, there wouldn't be so much of a clash. They would take on some ghostly traits (more and more over time, with continued exposure) and maybe start doing some prep-work for ghosthood, but they wouldn't be trying to leave their human lives early. They probably won't have insane healing factors like Danny, but they won't be tearing themselves apart like Vlad either.
They're preparing for the afterlife, but they wouldn't be so eager to discard the human life they are still living. If you've ever had a favorite hoodie that you wore all the time until you loved it to pieces and it came apart at the seams, that's kind of the feeling. It's not the end of the world when you can't wear it anymore; you can wear other jackets when you're cold, but you want to hold onto it for as long as you can.
The more someone is exposed to ectoplasm (in terms of both frequency and amount), the more ghostly they will become over time.
A random person who just happens to live in Amity Park on the opposite side of town from Fenton Works and and was somehow never at the sight of a ghost fight, will probably just experience a slightly increased awareness of ghost-related stuff and perhaps a slightly smoother transition when their time comes.
Other kids at Casper high, who attend school with Danny every day and get caught up in ghost attacks sometimes will probably start to form the wispy beginings of their ghostly self. Sometimes you just catch a glimpse of what sort of ghost they are going to be. They may also develop some slight powers while still alive.
You look at Paulina carefully shaping and lacquering her nails into something both beautiful and dangerous, and for a split second you just know that, someday, she's going to be all claws and glittering scales and passionate pursuit of her goals. She will transcend the human form and shape herself into a work of art of her own design and a powerhouse none can deny. Then she turns to her friend and giggles over a funny story, and the moment passes; she's just another kid steadily making her way to adulthood.
She's just another kid until some jerk at the mall oggles her a little too blatantly and her jewelry flashes brighter than the lighting should allow, blinding him so that he trips into a fountain, and Paulina smugly watches him sputter before turning to walk away with a satisfied spring in her step.
Sam and Tucker, Who hang out with Danny every day and frequently explore the ghost zone with him, will start forming more of the foundation of their ghostly selves and probably develop more powers sooner. They are more likely to develop to a point of being able to take on a ghostly form while still alive.
Typically, a halfa formed through extreme, prolonged exposure like this would have a bit of separation between their human and ghostly halves, but without much discord between the two. However, with Sam and Tucker spending so much time around Danny during their formative period (and having so much less contact with any other ghost than with him), it's entirely possible that they would subconsciously learn the integrated system approach, in much the same way people pick up habits of speech from the people around them.

Ghost purr hc but instead of purring they aggressively growl. Sam and Tucker find this out when they were hanging out in Danny's room one night and just hear this really loud growling coming from him, freaking out thinking there was a ghost nearby only to notice the resident Ghost Boi™ half(a) asleep looking calmer than they've ever seen him since becoming a halfa.
The only difference between a threatening growl and a content one is that the latter is ironically louder and more aggressive. It's technically not even a growl, Ghost cores just start bugging out and making this weird sound.

You know, I’m surprised I didn’t post this here.
Was super distracted the one night and could only imagine what ghost cores looked like in the “Whispers-verse” (aka this fic and it’s DLC). They vary between ghosts, but my brain somehow jumped to gem stones… probably because I like gems and it’s easier to explain colors with them, but I also imagine them swirling, like how stars and the gas giants do.
Did you know stars thrum/hum? It’s a thing with how they spin. Which might be why I describe the sensation of a core like that instead of the more common purr. Anyways:
To me, Danny’s looks like green fluorite. Why? Cuz it also somewhat reminds me of ice.
Tumblr media
Vlad’s looks like this - it’s actually a ruby. They often refer to ones that look like this as rough rubies
Tumblr media
And this one is Jason’s. It’s malachite jade. As time goes on, the dark sections will lighten for him

О!
AU Maddy and Jack find out that Danny is a ghost, and they accept it and stop hunting him.
They knew that ghosts are territorial, but they didn't know how much. And they find out that Danny in ghost form, like the rest of the ghosts has some animal-like habits, so they all mark their territory with body odors and ectosignature. And Danny, after getting used to his parents and the whole situation cuddles with his parents, rubbing his head against them, marking them as part of his territory. Maddy and Jack are both interested and confused by this behavior.
And then Jazz points to head and warns of Danny's "rough" tongue as Phantom (Danny catty licks the hair on Jazz's head, Sam and Tucker also as a sign of affection)
Danny is a cat confirmed? Little baby man? Both? Yes please that’s both very weird but oddly adorable.

Ghost fact?
Today we talk about...
Cores
The ectoplasmic bodies of ghosts are always built around an energy center called "core", which can be more or less large depending on the amount of power that an individual has collected and is actually storing. In humanoid ghosts the core is generally located in the center of the chest, in spherical ones it is in the exact center of the body, in quadrupedal/hexapod/octopod ones it is located in the head.
Tumblr media
Aesthetically, a core resembles a ball, more or less bright, slightly irregular, with a variable quantity of darker corpuscles that rotate continuously inside it, and can be of any color, but the most common are blue and green. Multiple colors can also be simultaneous, resulting in spheres that appear iridescent, or color-changing, or streaked to resemble small rainbows (the latter being a very rare occurrence; it is estimated that only one in six million paralarvae is born with an energy center rainbow, and is almost always preyed upon during childhood).
The amount of energy gathered in a ghost's core determines how long it can survive in the material world, but also the type and amount of magical and paramagical attacks it can use. Small energy centers (as is the case for all small-sized ghosts) reveal that the creature is not able to manifest itself completely in the material world, but only to project shadows in it (on the walls, ceilings, floors) or visions through the mirrors.
Tumblr media
Forcibly smashing a large, well-filled energy center causes an explosion that can kill anyone within five or six meters, charring them in less than two seconds, so when the ghosts' natural predators hunt them, they weaken their prey slowly, sucking up the energy, and chasing it for days, before launching the final attack and splitting the energy center, which, now partially emptied and devoid of internal pressure, will not explode.
Ghosts are capable of identifying the presence of other cores thanks to a specific organ, called the "third eye". The larger and more "colorful" the core is, the more it will be visible to the third eye of other ghosts.
The greater the quantity of color shades of an energy center, the more visible that ghost will be to the eyes of the other inhabitants of the spiritual world, especially predators, and the paralarvae with more intense shades risk being eliminated before all the others, with the result is that natural selection favors the most "mimetic" cores (as previously mentioned, blue and green).
When two ghosts merge completely, their two energy centers become a single one, which possesses both colors of the two previous cores.
Little trivia: A fusion possessing a rainbow-colored core is called the "Iris Prince" or "Iridescent Prince", and touching one is said to ensure ten years of intense good fortune.
We hope that you liked these little pieces of information!

So you know how people say that Danny is more powerful than Vlad because he died slowly to prolonged exposure while Danny died in an instant? Well you also know that most people say ghosts form when someone dies around ambient ectoplasm and usually the more ectoplasm the more powerful?
Well what if the reason Danny is more powerful is because he died instantly to the force of the entire ghost zone being forcibly shoved into his body. Unlike Vlad, Danny died to a fully functioning ghost portal that had a shit load of ectoplasm running through it at all times. Vlad had a small (but probably condensed) amount of ectoplasm shoved into every orifice of his body that they tried to remove.
Danny could be considered a perfect halfa- he was dead and alive at the same time, he was in the ghost zone and was in the human world at the same time too. Vlad was partly on both accounts.
But that's just my thoughts on the whole thing- I want to talk about Dani but she's... a bit harder to explain.

Okay y'all I'm running a fever of idk what temperature and can barely type but I've had another ghost biology idea and therefore, I, in a highly feverish state, present to you
✨Another Ghost Biology Headcannon✨
So this may or may not be connected to the void cores au (I'll decide when my brain isn't fried) buuuut yk how ghosts children are rowdy af. I think I remember the box lunch episode I watched a long ass time ago and I think she caused a lot of havoc and was really outta control.
(Tbh that's every kid ever so it doesn't really matter if I remember correctly or not this hc is still valid. I think.)
Anywho, ghost parents absolutely need a way to calm down and control their rowdy af kids who can generally do a lot more damage than a non ghost kid can.
Therefore I bring forth this revolutionary idea:
Cores. Of course it's cores. Hang on lemme explain
Ghost parents can control their children by touching their cores and it's basically like a mom cat picking her kittens up by the scruff.
Now imagine Jason (who is basically a corrupted ectoplasmic entity that all ghosts including danny fear) instinctively getting Danny to stop running away from him by touching his core. And then imagine the freakout Danny would have later cause nobodys ever done that before.
Now imagine clockwork (from my void cores au) calming down Danny after Pariah Dark (spoilersss) by touching his core. And then imagine the freakout Dabby would have later cause that's never happened before.
Anyway my brain is fried and everything is very cold see y'all later
