Matching/Couple Costume Outfits with the Genshin Boys

Characters: 5WIRL (Aether, Xiao, Kazuha, Heizou, Venti) and DCKZ (Diluc, Childe, Kaeya, Zhongli)

Type: Bulleted headcanons

Warnings: Slightly suggestive

Notes: Wanted to write something for Halloween, so I’m trying headcanons for a change because time. 💀

Teyvat’s biggest Halloween party is tonight. You and your boyfriend got the invite, so who are you dressing up as?

Aether as Rapunzel. You as Flynn Rider from Tangled

Aether knows you’ve always admired his long, luscious blonde locks. But, when you suggest he go as Rapunzel, he isn’t sure what to feel.

Aether eventually agrees just to make you happy.

You and Aether thrift your outfits. He also brings a frying pan as an accessory.

You braid his hair to match Rapunzel’s hairstyle on the boat scene.

Aether is the center of attention; he gets teased to wear a dress and braid his hair more often as it “suits him”.

You and Aether win the best couple costume of the night by popular vote.

"Should this be considered one of my best days ever?”

Xiao as a samurai. You as a feudal princess.

Xiao is 100% on board with your costume idea, even though he isn't smiling when he tells you.

Xiao opts for a robe samurai costume with a black/white/green colour scheme.

You go all out with your hair, makeup, and kimono. You also bring a paper umbrella as an accessory.

Xiao treats you like a princess the entire night (as if he doesn't already). He gets whatever you need, makes sure you don't have any wardrobe malfunctions, and carries your umbrella when you're tired.

You hold each other's hand when the ghost stories get a little too intense.

“I live to protect you, my princess.”

Kazuha as Jiji. You as Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service

You always thought Kazuha would be cute as a cat. As both of you are Ghibli fans, you don’t think he would object, and you’re right.

Kazuha helps you make your costume; his costume is just all-black clothes.

You help him do his cat makeup.

Your favourite couple photo for the night is you and Kazuha on the broom together. He's hugging you from behind.

You and Kazuha grab the same chair when playing spooky musical chairs. He lets you have it.

“I think it’s better to leave with great dignity.”

Heizou as Sherlock Holmes. You as Watson.

You and Heizou suggested the idea at the exact same time.

Everyone knew who you and Heziou would go as. So, no one is surprised when you two show up like you're looking to solve the biggest murder mystery in town.

Heizou’s accessory is a tobacco pipe. Yours is a pocket watch.

You end up trying to solve an actual mystery at the party when the alcohol goes missing. Turns out it was Venti.

You and Heizou win the classiest costume of the night.

"Elementary, my dear Watson. We're the perfect team. But, of course, we'd win."

Venti as Sailor Moon. You as Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon

You thought Venti would want to go as Hatsune Miku, but he was the one who thought of this couple costume idea.

He's more excited than you are and goes all out.

Klee dressed up as Chibiusa, so the three of you take many group photos together.

You think Venti gets a little too drunk at the party, but he just wants to get you alone.

Heizou walks in on your little makeout session. He quickly looks away and says he's just looking for the missing alcohol.

Venti didn't realize he'd taken the entire bottle with him.

“Seems like someone needs to be punished in the name of the moon.”

Diluc as Jessie. You as James from Pokemon

Diluc was not planning on dressing up. He’s there for a job, after all. Catering. Well, he’s providing the drinks, to be exact.

You pitch the idea to him, saying that the costumes will be pretty low-effort. Plus, he has awesome hair for it. So, he eventually agrees just to make you happy.

You're in charge of the costumes, which won't take you long to get. All Diluc has to do is keep his luscious hair in good shape, which he does anyway.

You help Diluc with the drinks for the entire night, and you get a lot of compliments for the costume.

You dare him to do the catchphrase with you when he refuses to drink for a game, not knowing that you’ll pay for it later.

“...I hope you’re ready for trouble tonight.”

Childe as Nick Wilde. You as Judy Hopps from Zootopia

Childe is a little iffy on the idea as he’s never watched Zootopia. How good of a character can a talking fox be?

He’s totally convinced after watching the movie with you.

Childe already has the clothes. All he needs is a tail and ears.

Childe goes shopping with you for your outfit. You give him a deadpan look for acting innocent when giving slightly suggestive remarks.

Childe calls you “Officer Fluff” and tries to get information out of you on a spooky scavenger hunt.

“You know I’m innocent, Carrots. Unless you’re arresting me for another reason entirely.”

Kaeya as the Phantom (Erik). You as Christine from Phantom of the Opera

You just want to see Kaeya in a fancy schmancy suit, which rarely happens.

Kaeya likes the idea. He also wants to see you in a fancy dress.

When you walk into the party, your arm is looped around his. He treats you like royalty throughout the night.

Has a few too many drinks but still manages to keep it classy.

Kaeya ironically gets his character in a game of Halloween character charades. He instantly walks toward you and takes your hand.

“Love me. That’s all I ask of you.”

Zhongli as Loid. You as Yor from Spy x Family

You've never seen Zhongli blonde. So it's the perfect opportunity to get him to try new hairstyles.

He pulls it off well. He also loves the black dress on you.

Diona dresses up as Anya, so the three of you take a bunch of photos together.

You end up losing the game, which means you have to drink a small pitcher of mixed alcoholic drinks.

Zhongli drinks it for you.

“No matter what kind of trouble, let’s help each other.”

3600 Seconds

It was the night before Halloween. Ayato has just returned from work as he sat in front of his desk, eagerly reading his own written plans. There wasn’t much he could add but he tried to make it eventful. He has also carefully written the things he wants to talk about, be it trivial or just simply his struggles.

The last sentence on the list was just a simple ‘walk along the seashore’. He gleefully smiled at the thought before quickly adding another sentence in the list of plans.

00: 55, [his handwriting was unreadable]

He looked at the old wardrobe before smiling yet again. He has been preparing an outfit that matches yours since a month ago. You always wore the same outfit ever since… but this was the first time Ayato deliberately wanted to give you a surprise.

His phone suddenly lights up, displaying a notification, a message. He glanced at it, the sender had only a string of numbers.

‘Are you free tomorrow? Since we’re on holiday-’ He briefly reads the available contents from the lock screen before casually slides it away. These days, he’s been receiving messages from his colleagues, especially those single people. He didn’t even bother to save their numbers and didn’t reply if it’s not work related. Perhaps he should’ve started dating someone just like a normal person would do but it’s not the same.

Ayato took another notebook from his bookshelf before taking it along with him to the kitchen. Opening through the pages, he quickly read through the ingredients lists and placed it on the kitchen counter. He still had a lot of time to prepare for dinner so he was careful to follow every details. Truthfully, he’s good at a lot of things but terrible with cooking. He often only orders take outs or eats outside when it comes to his own daily food. Cooking just wasn’t something he often did but it's a special exception for today. He wanted to make it special.

After three hours, he managed to successfully plate out two dishes. He has already tasted the seasonings and personally it tastes good to him. So, he was confident that his dishes were at least edible for a fancy Michelin star restaurant.

He looked at the clock and quickly cleaned the kitchen, he didn’t expect to be cooking in such long hours. Afterwards, he went on tidying up his already spotless house. He didn’t add any Halloween decorations because you never fancied it but he was sure to make his bedroom look neat. Surely, with all the cleaning happening he’s running out of time. Just one more hour and a few minutes to get himself prepared.

Ayato wore his custom made suit accompanied with a matching necktie, a golden pocket watch, polished leather shoes and meticulously styled his hair. He carefully dusts away his already spotless coat before neatly straightening out the collar of his coat. Ayato looked in the mirror to quickly fix the side of his hair as if it wasn’t already perfect. He looked at his hand before slowly clenching it into a fist but a smile gradually formed on his lips.

He calmly waits for the time, waiting for it to strike a certain number as he steadily stands in front of his own wardrobe. The only sound was the ticking of his pocket watch and his own breathing as an eerie silence slowly surrounded the room.

‘Tick, tick, tick’ suddenly the ticking stops. The clock strikes exactly at twelve midnight.

He could feel the cold winter chill slowly seeping out from his own wardrobe. The wardrobe was old but was made of high quality wood, the structure was still perfect and polished, one could call it a vintage item suitable for collectables. If Ayato was to sell it, he could easily get two months worth of paying the rent which was quite a good deal.

All of a sudden, the wardrobe door swings open by itself. Ayato quickly covered his eyes with a hand against the bursting cold wind. He’d imagined snow were brushing past him but of course his bedroom floor was still clear as the way he last vacuumed it an hour ago. He still wasn’t used to the sudden drop of temperature whenever this happens.

He slowly looked at his now opened wardrobe, instead of feeling frightened or surprised by the sight before him, he only took a confident step forward.

An unknown purplish source of light came out from the wardrobe as it illuminated the room. Inside was a fleshless, white human skeleton standing there, slightly moving as if it was supported by an invisible force. The sight alone was traumatizing and yet he eagerly stayed there without fear.

‘Tick, tick, tick-’ the pocket watch resumed ticking again.

Ayato steadily took another step, and at that short moment, a cloud of grey fog swirls around the skeleton’s form, from the floor to its head, finally revealing a woman beautifully dressed in a white gown.

He offered you a hand, looking at you with a decent smile. You looked at him, instantly noticing the difference in your height before you took his hand, elegantly stepping out from the wardrobe.

You still remember that he used to be shorter. Back then, he almost fainted because of your sudden appearance in his room. The look on his face was dire, you couldn’t help but quietly apologies for being there. It took him a few years to get used to seeing you and another three years to somehow consider you as his own friend. He could’ve at least moved the wardrobe out from his room if he didn’t want to be haunted by you but apparently he still keeps it until now. You didn’t know his reasons but assumed that he just likes collecting antiques.

His violet eyes admiringly stares back at you, glistening with pouring emotions. You smiled back, barely able to interpret the reasons behind his eagerness.

“Shall we…” he clasped your hand along with his before leading you to the dining table. The food was already beautifully plated along with a bunch of roses in a vase as a side decoration. You sat opposite him, looking at the nicely done dishes.

“Is it not to your liking?” he worriedly questions you after seeing that you only sat there, hands under the table while he already ate a spoonful of his own portion.

You smiled, feeling guilty that you have never told him about this matter after all these years.

“It smells so nice, I’m sure it's delicious.” You slowly spoke as he slowly placed down the spoon.

“My yearly visits are too short, surely I haven’t informed you about this…” you paused, barely able to say it because his facial expression gradually became gloomy by the second.

“Don’t worry about it, I’m grateful enough to see you eat with joy. Go on… it’s not good to waste the food” you quickly gesture a hand to encourage him.

He sadly sighed but eventually continued eating the food on his plate, listening to your words. Ayato quickly ate his food, placed the unwashed dishes on the sink and kept your portion of food into the fridge as if he was in a hurry.

“Let’s go” He swiftly took the car key before checking the time on his pocket watch.

“Where to?” You looked at him, surprised written all over your face. He has never bought you outside from his bedroom let alone taking you somewhere.

Previous years, he used to stay up late studying or reading by his desk, you didn’t know why he gradually started talking with you then but it does brings you joy.

“The seashore”

It was against the rules to walk far from the wardrobe but, this too, you have never told him. It wasn’t a secret, it’s just that you have never had the chance to talk about this matter. Perhaps the only thing he knows is the time he has and that other humans cannot personally see you except him.

He once tried to show you to his younger sister just so she would believe him. That day, he finally realized that it was only him that could see you.

If tonight was just one of your normal midnight visits, you’ll definitely disagree with his suggestions and just directly tell him that being far from the vicinity of the wardrobe would only bring destruction to your existence.

“Alright.” regardless of that, you still agreed.

Ayato carefully made you sit in the only passenger's seat. He even helped you to fit in the layers of gown before closing the door. He has never done it before but time was running out, so he couldn’t care less about your gown almost covering the gear knob of his Lamborghini Huracan.

Along the road, he started talking about how his year went, how he successfully got into the job he always wanted or how he was annoyed with the constant unwanted messages. You barely were able to reply to him because some of it was out of your understanding. It was too new, something out of your own era. Even this so-called ‘car’ was something all too new to you. It moves very fast and yet, you’re safely seated inside. It’s beyond your understanding but you’re not that surprised to take it all in either.

“Are you not interested in at least one of them?” you casually asked him.

“They’re good… but uh- Oh! We’re here” He exclaimed excitedly, as if deliberately trying to change the subject.

The full moon brightens the area, cloudless sky accompanied by occasional twinkling star lights above. Streetlights were lighting the paths around the area. A few groups of people were seen afar, as their campfire was visible from a distance.

Ayato takes you out and once again leads you to a nearby bench. One streetlight stood beside the bench, brightening the area with a warm honey color. The sound of ocean waves was calm, as a warm sea breeze blew your gown to the side. You took a breath as a slight hint of saltiness entered your nose.

“I love it here. It’s serene” you slowly spoke to the person who sat beside you.

He only quietly looked at you, gaze never left yours. His lips curved into a warm smile.

“Remember we’re outside. People will notice you” you quickly remind him, worried that someone might see him acting like this. They would only interpret that he’s gone crazy.

He on the other hand only let out a laugh, barely taking it seriously.

“Ayato…”

“Hmm?”

He looks too happy, you’re not sure why but because of this you decided not to tell him just yet.

“You’re looking rather dashing tonight… Was there an occasion before that made you decide to buy this suit?”

“Not really, I just thought it would be nice to match with you”

You laugh at his words, surely he wouldn’t do that just because of your 1900 outfit. You didn’t believe him.

“Is that so… tell me, what’s the actual reason behind all of this?”

“I missed you, y/n…” His eyes glisten with emotions.

For a brief second your mouth parted in surprise as your eyes widened but you quickly flashed a soft smile. Realizing that he must’ve enjoyed your company as a friend. Even so, it’s truly touching that he actually admits to missing a ghost.

“Surely, you wouldn't want to be haunted by a ghost.” you lightly laughed.

“I- “ he facial expression suddenly changed, as if his world just dropped right after you said that casual joke.

“What is it? Did I scare you?” You worriedly asked him, you genuinely wanted to reach out a hand to him but at the last second you decided to stop and returned your hand back to on top of your lap. After all, who wouldn’t be scared especially by your hand.

Unexpectedly, he reached out to your hand, although you knew he was hesitant, he still took your left hand into his hold. Unlike your other body parts, your left hand, from the arm to your fingertips was fleshless.

It was a part of the curse, aside from the rules you need to follow, and the immortality, you’ve been in this form ever since. That wardrobe was a place you called home too. It’s been moved around quite a lot until one day the wardrobe ended up being in his room.

He carefully placed your hand to the side of his cheek, as if it’s just a normal hand. You eyed him in disbelief while he only gleefully smiled. You can exactly tell that he was genuinely overjoyed.

Eventually you smiled, slightly shaking your head, thinking he surely is playing around with you. But it brings you joy that he wasn’t frightened by you.

“No one has ever done this to me. You surely have the courage of a thousand men”

He chuckles and only tightens his hold.

“Y/n… I’ll surely hold your hand just like this next year too” He happily informs you with much confidence.

You want to reply with a smile but you’re unable to do so.

“What’s wrong?” he worriedly asked, seemingly acknowledging your troubles.

You sighed, unable to tell him the truth but you knew time was running out.

“My curse will be lifted tonight…” you slowly spoke.

“That’s great.” He smiled before slowly realizing something he has never thought of, “... but does that mean…”

“...yes.”

He slowly placed your hand in between both of his hands. He searched your face, waiting for you to say something else, anything to clarify that his thoughts were wrong and that he misunderstood.

“Aren’t you happy? You can have a normal wardrobe next year.” you smiled trying to cheer him but it was noticeable that none of it was effective.

“Come on… It’s my last hour. Don’t be sad.”

You never thought a human would ever appreciate your presence but you do know, Ayato was different. He’s the only person who slowly gathers courage to get to know about you. Still, you didn’t want him to feel emotional over your meaningless existence.

Ayato’s facial expression only displayed a sad scowl. He deeply sighed before pulling you into a tight hug, leaving no space between you and him. One hand behind your head while the other arm was around your shoulder.

“Please stay…” he whispered, desperation was evident in his voice.

“I’m sure you’ll be alright, Ayato. Go out there, find friends… who appreciates you and are able to help you” you slowly wrapped your arms around him. The warmth was so comforting to your ever so cold soul.

“I don’t want that.” A hint of slight anger was coating his voice. “It was good enough to meet you every year… I never wanted you to leave me.”

“You’ve been haunted by me for so long… You’ll feel better after I’m gone” you try to assure him.

“It’s not the same without you, y/n”

You slowly pulled away from him, as you placed your hands on both sides of his face. You could feel the warmth on his face and his skin was subtle to the touch.

You softly smiled “...but you need to move on. I am nothing but just a cursed soul. I don’t have a beating heart or the ability to accompany you in person.”

As if these things were something he didn’t already know... As if he hasn’t accepted this about you. You didn’t know how much he appreciates you.

He blinked and tears started streaming out from his eyes. He quietly listens to you as if he wasn’t crying at all. To him, it was weird that he somehow wasn’t able to stop the tears even though he didn’t want to be in such a vulnerable state.

“I-” He gulped in the words, trying to stop the tears. “I still am grateful to have your company for all these years”

You nodded before carefully wiping away his tears. It has been a long time since you’ve seen someone cry because of you. It brings you such comfort and warmth. You can’t help but think that he does genuinely care about you.

“Whenever I think of you, I don’t feel so alone y/n”. He slowly added, trying to give you a smile, trying to speak out his reasons, desperately trying to make you understand.

“Just remember, that your life has always been meaningful even without me.” Even so, you still didn’t see it.

He been thinking about you. It was weird to think about a ghost but he can’t help but feel so at home, feel so familiar, everything about you was so lovable.

Realizing that you were leaving him was already unbearable enough... and now, you were even encouraging him to forget everything about you... How can he not feel devastated?

He let out a laugh as if agreeing to your words but truthfully he was feeling the opposite of it all. If life with you was meaningless, then why did he feel so happy to see you? Why did he excitedly wait for midnight to come each year on the same exact date? Was it all an illusion, a dumb childish feelings?

“Of course, it was just me” he sadly spoke but still kept on wearing that same fake smile.

You couldn’t understand what was the meaning behind his words but you decided to let it be unknown to you. After all, you truly believe your existence was nothing but a mere disturbance in his well established life.

“Y/n, why don’t we take a stroll along the beach together?” he suddenly suggested, standing up to offer you a hand.

Admittingly, he still feels miserable but he still doesn’t want to regret anything. At least, he’ll be able to check the list he has planned before and you couldn’t stay even if he wanted to. He needs to start accepting it.

“Sure…” you gladly accept his offer.

He pulled you up, displaying that same smile he had before.

Your gown was brushing against the sand as you walked side by side with him but you didn’t mind. It feels calming to have someone who actually wants to spend time with you. It’s been a long time since you’ve felt this… The moon was decorating the sky as you happily took in the beautiful view.

Ayato took a few steps in front of you before taking both your hands into his. Although he was smiling, his eyes displayed a painful sorrow. You couldn't help but feel worried about him.

“We used to be about the same height when you first saw me” You laughed, trying to lighten the mood “...Now you’ve grown a lot… taller. Don’t tell me you’re older than me now?”

He didn’t reply but a genuine smile suddenly reached his eyes, seemingly delighted to realize that he was perhaps older than your unchanged age now.

Ayato twirls you around before once again pulling you into a tight embrace. He has never hugged you before, not even once, tonight was the first time he ever acted this way towards you. As if he knew that this was your last visit.

“You will always be a part of me, y/n” He unsteadily whispered almost inaudible.

Ayato didn’t want you to feel guilty for leaving him. It was fine if you could leave in peace. He understands that you’ve been suffering for a long time, it wasn’t fair to hold you any longer just because of his simple desire. In the end he decided not to tell you. Keeping the last plan unchecked.

You can feel that your time is almost over. The clock inside your head telling you that it is time to go.

“Ayato…”

You called out to him, slowly distancing yourself just so you can see his face. Both of your hands were within his hold as he stared right back at you.

“Is there anything else you wanted to say to me?” you eagerly waited for him as he started to open his mouth but no words came out.

You lightly laughed but didn’t want to pry into it anymore. Time was running out, you knew it had started to snatch you away.

“If I was destined to meet you again and our world was not far apart… I’ll promise to stay by your side, please…”

There seemed to be a few more words but suddenly it was already inaudible to his ears. He can only see you mouthed those words ever so slowly.

“Y/n… wait-”

His eyes widened, he never expected you to say that... could it be that he was wrong all along? Suddenly at that moment, words came flooding his mind, there were still so many things he wanted to ask you, so many things that are left unsaid. If only he can keep you for just a moment. If only he had the confidence earlier...

He firmly hold your hands, not wanting to let go but ever so slowly your body starts to dissolve into nothingness. At that second he was frantic but was unable to do anything. His heart hurts knowing that you’re leaving him and it’s worse that he’ll never get the chance to make things clear to you.

His facial expression was trying to say something, you can still slightly hear him sighing in frustration but things started to slowly disappear from your sight. You can only return a smile.

Eventually he quietly watches you slowly disappearing even while your hand was still within his firm hold. He smiled back at you, trying so hard to maintain that perfect expression. He didn’t want you to feel sad because of him, and despite all of this he’d want you to see that everything was alright. There is no need for you to feel burdened by his feelings.

Ayato keeps his gaze locked on you, he could feel that his hand was already weightless but he only wants to remember your face, keeping it safe in his memories.
