earning it
The lab was barely alive. There was no loud music, no sparks flying, and the bots had returned to their respective rooms for the night. Tony fucking despised the silence.
But he couldn't find it in himself to move from the floor.
A handmade cardstock birthday card was half crumpled in his grip. Twenty little messy names were signed below a well wish and an (objectively shitty) drawing of Iron Man. They were all children from a field trip to the MET he had saved a few months back when some disgruntled lunatic decided he was going to build a death ray.
"You're our hero!" in glittery red gel pen.
It made him physically nauseous.
He hadn't saved them. Half had received severe burns, and the other half were so severely traumatized that they would spend the next several years in therapy, at minimum. He had reached out to the parents, the hospitals, and several children's psychiatry clinics. The Maria Stark Foundation would foot the bill for any costs incurred. Tony Stark- ever tossing money at Iron Man's mistakes.
He wasn't a hero. If he had been better, if he had been faster, he could've gotten those kids out without a scratch. He could've better contained the explosions. He could've stopped whatever-the-fuck his name was before there were any explosions.
Happy Birthday!
Another year alive. What did he have to show for it? New aches, new nightmares, new guilt... His skin crawled with the desire to do something anything. He chanced a glance over at the liquor cabinet, eyes catching the empty bottles he'd poured down the drain months ago...
No. He was alive, he was a genius, he was an inventor, he was Tony Goddamn Stark, and he could would make things better. He could deserve the stupid card. His fist uncurled around the crayon drawing of Iron Man, smoothing the crumpled paper gently.
All at once, he pushed himself to his feet, staggering to one of the drafting tables, "Battle stations kids," he clapped his hands, grinning when JARVIS raised the house lights and DUM-E and U rolled back out, "it's time SI got into the skin graft game."

As far as Tony Tark could remember his brain never stopped. Be it during sleep, playing an instrument under Maria's gaze, listening to Howard's lectures (especially during those), later even during hardcore sex, under liters of alcohol influence or listening to defending volumes of music, his brain never stopped, it always ran, making away connections, planning new schematics, analyzing information, grouping different data for later, layering and processing it even before he consciously realised he was doing it, it was there.
There was proof of that. Professors at MIT unable to keep up with him, inventing world's first AI when even the world wide web was not in the market proper, singlehandedly making a multi-million dollar worth military depended contracting company to the first ever institution worth trillion due to his major contribution, the world's most patents holder, building iron man suit in a cave, with a box of scraps, under constant torture, brain scans staring from when he was just a toddler till his time of death were all proof of his constantly running mind.
He never really knew rest, with his highly active brain for his age during childhood, with constant research and studying during his early teenage years at MIT, with his alcohol and drug abuse ranging from his late teenage years to mid thirties, then constant guilt and nightmares, PTSD that was the aftermath of IronMan, his insomnia throughout the life, he never knew it,
But at the end, where he held the infinity stones in his left hand at the destroyed compound, gazing into the eyes of his loving wife, his best friend and brother in arms and the son that never saw grew, remembered the daughter that he may never see grow, he felt his brain stuttering, like a circuit that felt overloaded and finally shutting down when he realised what he thought was only possible in dreams was now happening in reality.
His brain was finally slowing down, his thoughts where he felt like a passenger who spend his entire life inside a racing car which now had bursted all of it's tyres and was slowing down and he was finally able to see what was around him for the first time in his life was when he was dying.
He desperately wished for that unfathomable rest for himself all his life, from when he was child unable go sleep more than 5 hours at night to the time after snap when everytime he closed his eyes he would see half of life turning into ash in his hands, he realised he was finally getting the peace that he dreamt of since he was 4 years of age but now he was dying.
He realised at those last few moments of his life, when he turned head towards his beautiful wife holding tears for him, his not-son who no matter what world may was was his in everything that mattered, his brother standing strong and grim, his daughter's innocent face in his mind's eye, he decided at that moment that if he ever had a reason to stop his brain then, it would be at this moment that he would pull brakes in the imaginary racing car where his family was in his view.
And as his wife said, he could finally rest.

🗣 Always try
"I know that if I fail, I will not regret it. The only thing you should regret is not even trying.” - Jeff Bezos.
➡️ Mistakes may not lead to the intended goal, but you will gain invaluable experience that can be converted into your success.
➡️ Therefore, do not be afraid to take on something new, always try to do more than necessary.
Experience is exactly the thing that compensates for any mistake.

STEVE X TONY
So remember in Avengers (2012) one of the dialogues between Steve and Tony is:
Steve: you are not the guy to make the sacrifice play
Tony: everything “special” about you came out of a bottle
Then in Endgame when Steve picks up the Mjolnir and deems himself worthy and Tony is the one to snap and save the whole god damn universe by proving each other wrong
I MEAN MARVEL PEAKED

Im dying on so many new unknown (for me) levels right now-
My cousin said she blames Tony stark for everything that happened to Peter. Her logic is that the only reason Peter became known was because of the CV war. (civil war) Tony recruited Peter to go to Germany for help and from then on then (Spiderman:Homecoming) the vulture stuff happened. Now Peter would have still tried to stop Liz's dad with or without the stark techy suit. (Infinity war) But with the additional help the suit gave him he then decided to jump out of a moving bus and help try to save the time stone. This is when shit goes down. Peter dusts and Tony lives his second chance with Morgan. Peter was his first chance and now he was gone. (intervention) Honestly I sometimes wonder if Tony blamed himself for ever turning to Peter for help during the war. Back to the point, Cecile (my cousins character name) then says that when End Game happened Peter was brought back and inevitably Peter watched as his mentor, father figure and friend sacrifices himself for humanity.(Spider-Man: Far From Home) Peter then has to deal with the aftermath of the snap and he has to maintain Tony's reputation. So when they went on vacation Peter saw it as an opportunity to wind down and relax for a bit. Well, sometimes life chooses to be a pain in the ass. In peter's case, life chose to be a pain during his vacation. Peter then has to deal with the elementals and Mysterio. (intervention) What if Tony didn't sacrifice himself and he was there to help Peter out during far from home? Or what if instead Nick didn't come for help during his vacation? Sometimes I feel like the grown-ups in the MCU need help from younger generations. Like Tony needed help during the war, Nick needed help during Far from home. I guess Vision would count as help from the younger generations bc Vision is 3 even though he looked like a grown man. And its not always physical help they need during fights. Sometimes it can just be like showing up in their life and helping then out emotionally. Like Peter and Tony. Or America and Steven Strange. Love and Thunder? Peter and Yondu. Clint and Kate. And even though Clint has his own children doesn't mean that Kate isn't anywhere near the adoptive child spectrum.
Once Far From Home ended, his identity was revealed which sucked because that put everyone he loved in danger. What he tried so hard to avoid for it to happen, happened.(Spider-Man:No Way Home) This was an absolute mental and emotional roller-coaster. The MCU decided it would be a wonderful idea for everyone to forget Peter after the multiverse was gone. (Intervention) WHY DID THEY THINK IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA. This movie hurt my heart on so many levels. Peter is now alone. And HE DIDNT KEEP HIS GOD DAMN PROMISE. Like peter honey, i get your in a difficult situation. I get you didnt tell Mj or Ned because you didnt want the whole multiversal shit to happen again, but seriously? Just fucking tell them. Even if it happens again you know how to work it out right? Yeah. You just have to find the kinks of the spell. JUST TELL THEM. And some people will disagree with me but its better to have them and know a way to protect them rather than, spending life alone. Eventually he might find a friend or something but he'll keep them at bay from the depth of the life. Hopefully the next spiderman movie less heartbreaking. Which brings us to the end of Cecile's theory. She blames The Tony Stark, the man who sacrificed himself for humanity, for his wife, daughter and his 'adoptive son'. She blames Tony Stark, the Genius, Billionaire, Ex-playboy, Philanthropist for all the pain and agony Peter Parker, your friendly neighborhood Spiderman went through.
