Okay, UK Citizens, we're giving this another go. Sign and/ or share, please (if you're not UK-based, PLEASE share). It went pretty much as you'd expect last time: decent public support, got to debate stage, some lovely speeches from supportive MPs, then… random shit about women's prisons and sports from people unwilling to do anything to address the actual issues in prisons and gendered sports. 🙄

So behold, we're going to try again to join the increasing numbers of countries out there who allow an X or similar on the passports and driving licences of nonbinary folk.

Just as we thought that trans people would be getting some rights in the uk, Rishi has to go ahead and consider blocking the bill.

Scotland was going to institute a new bill that would make it easier for trans people to change their legal gender. But Rishi thinks that the ‘impact on women’ must be considered.

Maybe it’s just me who thinks trans woman’s lives will be much improved with this bill - but Rishi doesn’t seem to be thinking of them.

I reckon one reason England blocked the gender recognition bill was because they knew that it would make people leave England for Scotland and realise how much better it is and they can't well have that.

Reverse the decision to block the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill

"I want the Government to reverse their decision to block the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill, as this legislation contains important provisions for the LGBT community in Scotland. We are a United Kingdom, and the UK Government should not block devolved legislation." If we get to a hundred thousand valid UK-resident signatures (please DON'T sign unless you DO live in the UK, yes, they check) then there's a debate in Westminster Hall about this transphobic decision. If we get to a million UK-resident signatures, we make news.

I love this idea that now that the GRA Reform has passed that suddenly sexual predators will enter women's public toilets, as if there was some magical barrier stopping them from entering before this reform was published.

Do y'all know just how many times I've seen cis-men in women only public toilets. I lost count before I was even in high school.

Nothing stops anyone from entering whatever toilet they want. This legislation does not affect the rights of women in the slightest.

If you're worried about sexual predators entering public toilets, then I hate to tell you this, but literally nothing has ever stopped them from doing so before. A door with a gendered sign on it is still just a fucking door. It's not some magical forcefield.

Sexual predators have always been capable of entering women only spaces. Claiming that this legislation is the reason they are able to do so is ridiculous. Maybe reevaluate why you think like this.

The people benefitting from this, are transmen and transwomen.

Labour has shown great courage in the past on LGBTQ+ rights. Why won’t it do the same for trans people now?

Why Westminster? Why Tories? Why Rishi?

Scotland; wanted to become independent, but cant because they need permission to leave. Then they try to make life easier for trans people, and for the first time the government decides, no, Scotland cannot do what it wants.

Strikes; rishi is supposedly negotiating with healthcare staff about it but no protections have been made, and now teachers are going to strike - unrelenting action on the part of the people to try and get better pay under an unsustainable system. nice that they might get change, bad that it was needed in the first place and speaks to how economic failure is a feature not not a bug.

All I can say is to support the strike action and unions - Marx was a big fan of those. there is more drastic action to be taken which could be more...spirited, shall we say. Considering how democracy is going, my conviction that anarchy is the right way to go is being reaffirmed.
