CBD is an acronym for Certified Black Damsel, but it has a double meaning. The character Beauty is based on me and what I imagine my life would be like in an alternate universe if different decisions were made in my life. We are the same age and have the same issues but a different approach. She is in her late 20s and still trying to figure out her life like most of us are.
My generation was raised to believe we had to have a house, a career, a marriage, 2.5 kids, and money in the bank. Meanwhile, the closer we get to 30, we realize it won’t happen as we thought. I know some people way older with great careers and still aren’t fulfilled. People having strokes in their 50s due to stress. I would hate for that to be me, so I’m taking the time to follow my dreams. I’m sailing on faith, and I know that God will allow this career change to be beneficial in every way. If I don’t see it now, I know I’ll see it in time because this is my purpose. The next thing I will be working on is publishing a book of poems. I’m divinely guided and eternally grateful🤲🏾.

Struggling with solidifying your characters Point of View? I've been there. I've seen many posts tackling it but none that made sense to me. I'll show you what helped me. Let's talk about how to develop your characters POV and unique voice.
In the first place, I was approaching it the entire idea of character voice wrong. It's not how they say it, it's what they say that's most important. You can mess with how they say it later. With that in mind, the first thing you need to do is get your character's personality and backstory straight. I find this easy as I LOVEEE world building and character lore and the like.
Next, circle the incident your character is narrating. What do they notice? Do they notice the salt in the air because it reminds them of the harbor back home? Maybe they notice a stray bead on a tapestry because their mother was a weaver, or because they are insanely detail-oriented. Perhaps they notice a scar on someone's brow because a friend of theirs from the past possessed one as well. Are they royalty or from a wealthy area? Can they see signs poverty or do they look down on items that lack the quality they are used to?
Third, how does it make them feel? Your character's history must be intertwined with their view point. Do they notice the rain clouds and feel irritable because it causes pain in an old injury? Does that familiar pain make them feel sad because of what they lost? Do they feel fear because of what they endured to get that injury? Do they expect the best of everything and become frustrated when things are not to their liking? Are they on the less emotional side and look at things and situations objectively?
That's how I work on nailing down my character's unique voice. You are supposed to be seeing through their eyes. Every character you have would probably notice something different in the same situation and feel differently about what they are experiencing. Then afterwards, when it's time to speak or communicate, if they have accents or speak in rhyme, just translate what they are saying into how they would communicate it.

SCRIPTURE:
For by their own sword they did not possess the land,
And their own arm did not save them,
But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence,
For You favored them.

OBSERVATION:
I can do only one thing to save myself and possess "the land..."
Lean in and believe on Jesus...
...everything else comes from that and through Him...
APPLICATION:
Surrender my "sword..."
Live in His right hand...
Live in the light of His presence...
Live saved and favored...
PRAYER: (Referencing verses 21, 15, & 5)
Favoring and saving Father God -
You know the secrets of my heart, and know even before I do that all too often I act as if I've forgotten Your presence, even when I know how blessed I am to be in Your right hand...
Your Holy Spirit reminds me, and from that point on, until I come in confession, my dishonor is before me
And my humiliation overwhelms me,
Thank You that through You - by Jesus - I can and will push back the adversary - the enemy -
And through Your name I can and will trample down those who rise up against - and at time, within - me.
By Your saving grace in Jesus's Name, and for Your glory...
