fat culture is seeing a clothes shop advertised as "clothes for everyone" or "fashion for all" just to find out that their plus size range barely exists.

It’s 2am, I’m bored, and I think it’s about time this community had our own flag god dammit
Tumblr media
This is my first draft of a fat liberation pride flag. (made in canva) The four shades of blue stripes represent the four categories of fatness, with infinifat first. The grey background is a nod to the grey in the disability pride flag, which represents the mourning and rage for victims of ableist violence and abuse. I included this because our movements are intertwined. The orca symbol represents power, community, majesty, resilience, and most of all, the struggle for liberation.
And isn’t it punk as fuck to embrace the whale label by intentionally using the killer whale?

shoutout to all the fat people i've seen wearing whatever the fuck they want in public. shoutout to the fats who wear the skimpiest clothing. shoutout to the fats who wear alt fashion, including cutesy kinds. shoutout to the fats who go to the beach shirtless or on bikinis. shoutout to the fats who wear stripes and light colors, or other clothes we're told aren't flattering on us. shoutout to the fats who wear athletic wear. shoutout the fats who wear the comfiest oversized clothing. shoutout the fats who wear what they want regardless of what thins/"fits" think.
all of you are marvelous and have slowly but surely inspired me to wear whatever the fuck i want as well. i wish you and all other fats nothing but happiness and comfort in self expression <3

the existence of healthy fat people is not the reason fat people should be allowed to exist, and free of bigotry at that. it uses health as a measure of someone's rights, and health is morally neutral. it also very much sidelines fat people whose fatness DOES negatively impact their health. that's a thing that can happen, and it still doesn't mean they have an obligation to lose weight. we must accept and fight for all fat people, whether they're disabled or not.

here’s to unhealthy fat people
if ur fat bcuz ur disabled. disabled bcuz ur fat. are unhealthy for other reasons, unrelated to fatness. unhealthy bcuz ur fat. are fat because of things like diabetes.
a lot of body positivity is about ‘being fat isn’t inherently unhealthy’ which, yes, while this is true, there are outliers. for some people being fat is unhealthy. that’s okay. they deserve positivity too!
you’re not morally wrong for struggling. you aren’t a bad stereotype. you’re a person. there are so many people out there and such a wide range of experiences that it’s bound someone like you exists. that’s okay. you’re okay.

maybe this is a hot take but i actually think fat people who are "responsible" for their own fatness are literally fine. like there is no argument i can make that proves it is worth ostracizing someone for their fatness, let alone challenging someone's bodily autonomy over it. what's it gonna do, prove to the young and impressionable that it's actually possible to be fat and happy?
for one, it's been proven that fatness usually has more to do with hormones and biological predisposition than someone's everyday habits, and most weight loss diet and excercise routines are not only very unhealthy but also don't last in the slightest. and even if that weren't true, why does it matter so much? why does someone have to have a "good reason" for being fat? why must we prove we're one of the good ones? why must we prove we're trying to be something other than fat to be valid?
to all the fat emotional eaters, fat people who are fat because they love food, fat people who gained weight on purpose or on accident, fat people who don't like traditional excercise or cannot access it, fat people whose doctors tell them all their problems stem from their fatness, fat people who have been fat their entire lives and fat people who just became fat recently, to all the fat people who are fat due to illness or personal habits or for no apparent reason at all, you are lovely. your fatness is not shameful. you can be beautiful and cute and sexy and confident and loved without proving you deserve to exist. you deserve to exist as is.
fat is not a dirty word. my fatness is not dirty, and neither is yours. you don't stop being loveable if you're the reason you're fat.

For everyone following me and claiming they’d give their life to me if they have a chance, I hope you know i’m not your “average” trans guy when it comes to looks.
I’ve been seeing a lot of fatphobia against transmasc doms on my feed and it annoys the absolute fuck out of me. A moment ago you were under their post saying you’d let them do whatever then the moment they post how they look they get asks like “I didn’t know you were fat” or dropping followers because of it. I’m not obese but I definitely have a belly that hangs out over my pants and not ashamed of it whatsoever. I understand if you have preferences about who you like but don’t make them feel bad about themselves just because you don’t like it. Quit treating people as if they’re less value just because you had this image in your head about them, everyone looks different in their own way and that’s the beauty in transitioning.
If you’re anything like this or just in general a asshole when it comes to weight or looks, please get off my blog. You’re not welcomed here and never will be.

Fat Liberation Month starts tomorrow, August 1st! NAAFA, the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance, has listed 12 virtual events that will happen during the month of August and has stated that more events will be added. As far as I know, these virtual events are free and just require signing up to receive the Zoom information. The events will be provided in English with automated captions and have an ASL interpreter.
Here are the current planned events for Fat Liberation Month. Click the images to see the information with bigger text, or you can read the events at NAAFA's website.

NAAFA has also created a suggested hashtag for posts about celebrating fat liberation during this August 2023:

The first virtual event starts tomorrow at 12pm PT. Make sure to convert the time to your specific timezone if you plan to attend and also sign up for the event to receive the necessary links! There is an option to sign up for all events and the future events that will be scheduled for later this month. That option is still free and ensures you'll be notified of the new events.
I hope to see you all celebrating Fat Liberation Month by making art, posts, meetups, and joining the events held by NAAFA! Happy fat pride!

Hey gentle reminder that body positivity also applies to people who are underweight. It applies to guys who look frail and to girls with flat chests and small hips. To people who are considered weird to be attracted to because of how skinny they are, whose partners are accused of being pedophiles because of their body type. To people who have visible ribcages. To people who constantly get told to eat more, or who get interrogated about having eating disorders. It actuall also applies to people with eating disorders, and to bodies that have been shaped by them.
I'm tired of seeing people who claim to be body positive reinforcing society's negative views about underweight body types as a way of trying to give themselves a leg up. Learn what society's beauty standards are before criticizing them. You are not woke for calling women with small boobs ugly.
Please reblog if you support all body types.

hairy fat queers are so fucking stunning. and i'm not just talking armpit hair and a little body hair with some pudge. i'm talking rolls on rolls with big happy trail covered tummies. i'm talking double chins and soft round jaws decorated with wispy sideburns and dainty neckbeards. i'm talking huge arms with bat wings, arm hair all the way up to your shoulders, wrapping around your back like wings.
you, fat and hair and queerness all, are a gift from god themself - no matter your identity or how you express it. nothing anyone says or does or thinks can change just how much of a beautiful blessing you are.
