And yet...there’s something in your gut that says you should stay away. word count:: ~4.4k warning(s):: non-con (no smut/SFW), suna's a grade A creep/stalker, yandere!!, isolation, stockholm syndrome, horror??(i tried to make this scary but it's really not lol) Music rec:: joke's on you - charlotte lawrence
As an aspiring journalist, your dreams had all but come true when you were hired as an intern at the most prestigious sports media center in Tokyo.
You get to shake hands with athletes you see on television daily and most importantly, you had received an actual assignment.
Gone were the days of running around to get your manager coffee and spending the day shredding documents. Instead, you had been tasked with creating an in-depth piece into the most popular athlete of the year— Suna Rintaro of EJP Raijin.
You still vividly remember your first time meeting him.
You’d been star-struck— a tall, gorgeous man you had only ever seen through a screen was standing in front of you.
Smiling. Holding out his beautiful hand for you to shake.
Despite his casual demeanor, there was something off about him. Maybe it was your nerves, or the cold air circulating in the office, but there was a tug in your stomach that was warning you.
At the time, you had plastered an excited grin on your face and scolded yourself.
But looking back— his eyes were quite cold, weren’t they?
You just can’t explain why you feel sick whenever you see him. In fact, despite the great task ahead of you—interviewing and writing up an article on Suna— you had been avoiding him.
There’s just something in you that dreads looking into his sharp green eyes.
It doesn’t help that in spite of your best efforts, you strangely run into him everywhere-- on and off the court.
“Suna?”
Your voice comes out squeaky and clearly nervous.
Are your eyes deceiving you? Why would he be here, in the middle of the cereal aisle, at the small grocery store next to your dingy apartment? You have to do a double take before you can confirm that yes, it is in fact him.
It’s late, and it’s only you, Suna, and the tired store manager. Though, at this moment, it feels like it’s only the two of you in this world.
“Oh. Hey, y/n,” Suna says casually, flashing you his famous smirk— the one that has his fans screaming and crying. He’s on his knees, reading the back of a granola cereal.
Suna turns back to the aisle in front of him, finally placing a box into his basket. Your brain registers it as your favorite flavor (the unhealthy, chocolate-y type that you’re sure athletes shouldn’t be eating).
What a coincidence.
“What are you doing here?”
You live on the edge of Tokyo, an unfortunate 30 minute subway ride to get to the sports arena you’re working at. And you know, from Suna’s player profile, that he lives in a luxurious high-ceiling apartment only a few blocks away from there.
“What do you mean?” Suna asks, frowning. He seems genuinely confused.
Are you the crazy one?
“Oh, it’s just… so random, you know?”
Your throat is tightening now and you feel unable to even swallow.
There are alarms blaring inside of your head, as if every fiber is irrationally telling you to run.
Suna glares at you, sharp eyes studying your smaller stature.
God. Another reason why you don’t like this man— he’s just too difficult to communicate with.
“You live quite far away, right?”
Seconds pass and you’re beginning to worry you’ve said something wrong or offensive when Suna finally stands, sighing as he turns toward the registers.
“No. I just moved to Kamikitazawa.”
You feel that tingle again.
“What a coincidence!” You say, recovering quickly.
Fuck. You sound especially stupid right now.
But could you help it? Suna, a multi-millionaire, moved into your apartment building? The one inhabited by broke college students and poor retirees?
Was he struggling financially? Did he have a secret child like some rumors alleged? Wait, is he—
“I’m not sure what you’re thinking, but whatever it is, you’re wrong.”
Suna and you are standing at the cash register now, and he turns to gently smile at you. You feel yourself softening.
Why were you scared, anyways? He’s a world-famous athlete and model.
Your premonitions have been wrong in the past— like when you thought your boss, Kuroo, would be upset with you accidentally deleting his PC files.
“I see,” you murmur, “well… the apartment is kind of… there’s a lot of problems, you know?”
The words tumble out of your mouth before you can stop them. You sound like a broken radio.
There's an awkward silence as you and Suna both try to find the words to say.
This is why you hate talking to him, he expects you to do all the work!
"You should know that the third elevator isn't that good. It always gets stuck on floor two. And the garbage chute at the end of every hall is kind of hard to open. You have to," you make a pulling motion, "really yank, ya know?"
Silence. Suna stares at you blankly.
You're just an absolute loser, aren't you?
He's gonna cringe, or worse, tell your advisor that you're being overfamiliar with him, an athlete 5 years your senior…
As you stand in your cheap winter boots, shivering, Suna suddenly laughs.
It's not the quiet chuckle you see him release when he's joking with Komori, but a head-throwing, mouth widening laugh.
"Uh..." you stutter, nervous.
It takes a full minute before he finally stops, silently pink at the face.
"Thanks. I'll keep that in mind," he says, lifting his shopping basket.
You nod repeatedly, nerves subsiding.
"Wanna walk back together?" Suna asks.
You hesitantly nod. Why not? It's late and dark, and though the neighborhood is calm, it never hurts to have a walking buddy.
On the walk home, to your surprise, Suna begins to talk about his team and compliments you for your article on the top liberos. You’ve never seen this side of him. There’s a reason why he’s so beloved— he’s a mystery.
You’re nearly zoning out as the two of you reach your apartment complex.
"Am I boring you?" Suna suddenly asks.
It's such an unexpected question, you falter for a second.
"No! I'm just... I feel relaxed. I like hearing your voice," you say, surprised.
Suna lets out a sigh of relief as he punches in the door code to the building.
"So. As I was saying, you want me to give you a ride tomorrow?"
"What?”
"A ride. To the arena." He says, enunciating every word as if you're a child.
"It's okay," you start, “I—”
"Take the subway, yeah. But it's a hassle, right?"
No, it's not. In fact, it's pretty nice, seeing strangers off to their desired destinations.
But it's as if he can read your mind.
"I’ll give you a ride."
It's not a question anymore.
"Alright," you murmur.
The short journey to your floor is now awkward, and you’re wishing you had turned down his offer to walk together.
The two of you are almost at the end of the hallway now, at your apartment door. To your horror, Suna doesn’t continue walking.
Instead, he simply turns around and reaches for the doorknob of the apartment just across from you.
Strangely, you’re just now noticing just how narrow and dark this hallway is.
Under the cheap fluorescent lights, you can only see the man in front of you. Suna’s pale hands flex as he easily readjusts his heavy grocery bags, reminding you he could take you out in a moment.
“Wow. Looks like we’re neighbors, huh?” Suna says, stepping into his flat.
You’re blinking up towards him, breath cut short.
“See you tomorrow, y/n.”
Funny. He didn’t sound surprised.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You're just tying your hair when the doorbell rings.
"y/n, you ready?"
Who would’ve imagined hearing the Suna Rintaro’s voice at 9 AM.
You sigh as you take a final glance into the mirror. You couldn’t completely hide the dark eye circles from your lack of sleep— who’d be able to sleep after learning a celebrity lives practically next door?
Taking a deep inhale, you push open your front door.
You instantly feel yourself healing as you take in Suna. It’s a similar effect to watching your favorite idols perform on stage— good looks work wonders on your tired body.
Suna leans against the wall, wearing a pair of black sweats and a thin blue hoodie. With a start, you can't help but notice it's almost a couple set with your blue sweater and black skirt.
"Good morning," he says, sliding his phone into his pocket. You nod in response.
As you walk down the hall together to the elevators, you can't help but flush. Is this what it'd be like to have a boyfriend? As a student dedicated to her craft, you’d never felt the urge to date, remaining single your entire life. You can’t help but wonder what it’d be like to be Suna Rintaro’s.
“Oh! What’s this!” Kiana, a middle-aged woman, calls out as you and Suna wait for the elevator.
“y/n! You never told me you got a boyfriend! And such a handsome one, too! Oh, if I was only a little younger…”
You and Suna make eye contact and you blush, quickly turning towards the smiley woman, ready to retort.
“We’re—” You barely make out a word before Suna suddenly takes your hand.
“Good morning, ma’am. I’m Suna Rintaro, y/n’s boyfriend. I just moved into apartment 306.”
At his words, both your and Kiana’s eyes widen.
Yours in confusion, hers in wonder as she recognizes the handsome stranger.
“I know you! I know you! You’re Suna, from that team! Oh, my son is such a fan! I can't believe you're living here! He’ll be so excited."
As Suna and Kiana make small talk, you try to discreetly shake your sweaty hand out of Suna’s grasp. To your bewilderment, he continues gripping onto it, so hard you can feel his short fingernails digging into your soft skin.
To your relief, the elevator chimes, and as Suna waves goodbye (you do too, out of habit), you gasp as he yanks you into the elevator.
"What was that?" You ask, nervously looking up at your ‘boyfriend.’
Suna’s eyes are hard as he stares down at you, but he’s glowing all the same, as if he’d just received a gift.
“Saying we’re a couple. What was that about?”
Suna hums innocently.
"I just thought it would be most convenient to tell her that. People will see us together from now on."
No, they won't.
“It would confuse them to have to explain you’re an intern.”
Was that so complicated?
But with his mischievous smirk and the way he taps his foot against the elevator floor, you just can’t find the courage to refute.
“Alright… but could you let go?” You ask uncomfortably.
"Ah, right," he says, letting you free.
You rub your hands together, easing the circulation back.
Strangely, it feels especially cold without his grip on you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Wake up."
Awakening with a start, you rub your eyes.
You can't help but admit you could get addicted to free rides with Suna.
His car is just too nice; the seats are fluffy and he turned on the heater to just the right temperature and there's soft piano playing from the speakers.
How long have you been out?
Taking in your surroundings, you're surprised to find you're already at the Tokyo Volleyball Arena. You almost jump in shock as you realize what’s warming your lap— a box of your favorite strawberry waffles.
“What’s this?” You question as Suna wordlessly hands you a fork.
"I thought you might be hungry.”
Suna slides a cup into your open hand— matcha.
So he is a nice man, after all.
“Wow, Suna! Let me please pay you back!”
Your stomach grumbles as you take a bite of the sweet breakfast.
“No, no, it’s on me.”
How could you make it up to him? Maybe you should bake him cookies or something… you shift in your seat, frowning as you realize your bare thigh is strangely damp. Rubbing your thighs together, your eyebrows furrow.
“Oh,” Suna says, biting into his scrambled eggs, “sorry. That was me, I got some coffee on you while you were sleeping, so I wiped it away," he says sheepishly, gesturing towards the pack of wet wipes in the glove compartment.
He looks embarrassed, avoiding eye contact, so you don't push it any further.
He's kind of cute, you think.
It kind of feels too perfect– the plush comfort of Suna’s luxury car, the sweetness of the waffles, and the delicious matcha, albeit slightly salty.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hey, y/n, which movie should we watch?" Suna calls from your couch.
You're in the kitchen, preparing popcorn in your small microwave.
"Studio Ghibli!" You shout back, stirring the hot chocolate, “I have a whole bunch downloaded, just choose one.”
It's become a regular occurrence for the two of you to spend much of your free time together. At first, Suna had gently coaxed you into spending time with you under the guise of doing more research for the article you’re writing about him, but now you’ve grown to genuinely enjoy his company.
From morning rides to office lunches to casual dinners, it's like your life has been consumed by Suna. Your gut had been wrong, after all, because Suna treats you like a girlfriend— although you’d long shook away that silly thought— he’d never see a younger, broke student that way.
But despite your brain knowing everything is just fine, your heart has yet to be rewired. It still pounds with discomfort, as if it knows that fundamentally, something’s wrong.
You just can’t identify or place a label on that problem.
More recently, you’ve been getting hit with strong deja vu from that one night at the grocery store months ago.
As if it’s only the two of you on this planet.
Sighing, you take your place next to Suna, glancing at your phone. It remains still, screen dark.
“What’s wrong?” Suna asks, frowning. He pushes up his black glasses, running his fingers through his damp hair.
You hesitate. It’s fine to share this, right? After all, it feels like Suna’s all you have right now.
“Well… I’m not sure why, but I think my friends are mad at me. For the past few months, they’ve been silent. They don’t really respond to me anymore, and when they do they just say they’re busy.”
Suna nods, reaching for your hand. You welcome the warmth of his fingers, blinking back tears.
“And even worse, my family hardly contacts me. I used to call my mom basically everyday. I think there’s something really wrong, Suna, I’m really worried.”
“How long has this been going on?” Suna has the movie paused now, full attention on you. He gently strokes your hair and the kind gesture has tears pooling in your eyes.
“For a few months… maybe… four? I didn’t realize it at first because of how busy I’ve been at work and with the article I’m writing on you,” you mumble, allowing Suna to embrace you.
He’s gently rocking you back and forth now, rubbing your back, whispering kind words into your ear, telling you it’s okay and they’re probably just busy too…
Minutes pass before you finally look up, eyes widening as you take in his facial expression.
Despite his sweet words, Suna’s eyes are completely blank and there’s a questionable, small smile on his face. You barely recognize him.
“y/n?”
You blink, and take in an inaudible breath as you stare at Suna.
He cocks his head, confused. He looks at you with nothing but affection and concern, thin lips pressed into a frown.
Your heartbeat slows as you realize that, yet again, you’d just been seeing and feeling things wrong— whenever you’re around Suna, it’s as if you lose sense of your surroundings.
Smiling, you sniffle as you wipe away your tears.
“Sorry for getting emotional at movie night.”
Suna grins, giving you a final gentle hug before turning back to the television.
“Don’t be. I’m always here for you, y/n.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Suna, this question has been long requested by your fanbase. How do you express love?
A: Dedication. I give my all to my lover, no questions asked.
Oh, and I don’t like to share.
There’s suddenly a knock at your door, causing you to jump. You put down your laptop, where your open article draft sits nearly complete.
The lightning storm outside has you shaking and you just wish Suna was here, holding you and laughing at his silly responses to your even stupider interview questions.
Another knock at the door.
Strange— Suna’s practice runs for extra long today for his upcoming tournament. Maybe he finished early.
“Suna, why didn’t you call before practice finished? We could’ve gone out for dinner,” you scold as you pull open the door.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
Standing in front of you is your furious older sister, drenched from the rainstorm outside.
“Oh my god! Come in!” You say, alarmed. You reach towards her wrist, but she remains planted in place.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?”
She’s angrier than you’ve ever seen her.
“How could you tell us to fuck off? You really think your journalism is that important? Your writing isn’t more important than family, you asshole! It’ll never be important!”
Taking a deep breath, your sister lets go, immediate regret evident on her face. She opens her mouth to apologize, but you’re not having any of it.
Anger is coursing through your body now and you shove your sister away, causing her to stumble against Suna’s door.
Your family has never supported your career— from when you were just a child, you’d had to work hard for your own future.
So this is why they had shunned you? Because they can’t stand seeing you successful? Because you had moved away from the countryside to make something out of yourself in the city?
Tears stream down your face as you tremble.
“My writing is important,” you whisper. Your sister nods quickly, opens her mouth again—
“Don’t come by anymore. Don’t consider me a part of the family anymore.”
“No, I’m sorry— I think there’s a miscommunication, y/n! Wait!”
Slamming the door on her shocked face, you stumble towards the couch.
It feels as though you’re going to die— the room spins as your lungs strive for air and your vision is becoming increasingly blurry.
The sound of rain and your sister pounding on the door intertwine, and as you bury your head into a pillow, you really just wish Suna was at your side.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“y/n?”
Someone’s tugging at your sleeve, and you glance up, blinking uncomfortably at the bright lights of the living room. There’s dried tear streaks on your face and you’re sure you look like a miserable ogre, but Suna looks at you with nothing but compassion as he hugs you, alarmed.
He’s slightly damp—probably a combination of sweat from practice and the rain outside—but you hold onto him eagerly as he eases you onto his lap.
“What happened?”
You shake your head, explaining what had happened in the few hours when he’d been gone.
Suna’s furious on your behalf, jaw tight and fists clenched.
“Thank god I told your sister to fuck off. She was standing at your door, yelling curses and threatening to call the police,” he mutters.
Tears spring to your eyes again. This only confirms the reality of your life now— your family (and probably friends, too) absolute despise you.
“Don’t worry, y/n. I’ll always be here for you,” Suna whispers.
His words are somewhat like a relaxant to you. Taking a deep breath, you lean into his chest, sighing.
“I don’t think I can write anymore, Suna. I don’t want to. What have I been working towards my whole life?”
Suna remains silent for a moment, studying your sorrowful face, before leaning in to brush his nose against yours. Your eyes shift, admiring his gorgeous olive ones.
“Your journalism is amazing, y/n. And… if you hadn’t worked so hard, we might’ve never met, right?”
You smile sadly.
“I guess…”
“y/n, how about you wrap up your article tonight? You’re almost done, aren’t you?”
You gesture towards your open laptop on the coffee table.
“It’s done, but it’s shit. My sister’s right, it’s not worth anything,” you say, embarrassed. You’ve always known you were talentless, which is why you’ve always worked harder. But it amounted to nothing in the end.
You press your cold hands against your burning eyes as Suna picks up your laptop, skimming through what you’ve written about him.
If even he hates it… that’s it. You’re not sure how you’re supposed to go on.
“y/n, will you look at me?”
Suna’s gently tugging at your hands covering your face. Biting your lip nervously, you let him take your hands into one of his.
“Want my honest opinion?” He asks, placing the laptop onto your lap. You nod, staring down at the bright screen.
“This is the best thing anyone’s written about me.”
You close your eyes, shaking your head.
“Don’t lie.”
“y/n. I’m serious. This shows exactly the side I wanted the public to know about me. It’s intimate, but written formally enough to be taken seriously by the media.”
When you don’t respond, Suna sighs sadly.
“I guess you don’t want the opinion of a dumb athlete, though…”
Frantically, you look up, shocked.
“Of course not! Suna, your opinion is everything to me!”
Relief settles in your stomach as Suna grins, eyes shining.
“Really?”
“Of course! Thank you… That really means a lot to me.”
Suna nods, rambling about how much he loves that sentence here, the use of punctuation there…
“What’s wrong?” He asks, noticing you look down again.
“I… just feel like I have nobody but you, Suna.”
Suna smiles at you, waving towards the polaroids of your friends and family hung on the wall.
“I’m sure they’ll come around again, y/n.”
Your nose crinkles as you cringe at the photos. You want them gone. You want all of the references towards them gone.
You want to get out of here.
“I hate this apartment, actually. They helped me decorate it and everything,” you sigh.
“Well then, how about we move out together?”
You fiddle your thumbs, headache threatening to return.
“I don’t have that type of money,” you say, frustrated. It’s easy for a world-class athlete like him to just up and leave, but you’d never be able to, not unless you dropped out of school and found a job elsewhere.
“y/n, I’ve just remembered. I have an apartment near our stadium, right? How about you move there for the rest of your internship?”
You hesitate. Intruding into the home of a man you’re not even in a relationship with? While the offer is tempting…
“Don’t worry about anything, y/n. Don’t think too hard about it.”
Suna’s gently rubbing circles onto the side of your hands and you feel like melting away, exhausted.
All that crying and anger has truly taken a toll on you. Your eyelids flutter as you finally nod.
“Okay.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Are you sure?”
Now that it’s come to actually burning the photos, you’re hesitating. Aside from the few photographs on the walls, your apartment is completely bare, all of your belongings now residing in Suna’s luxury condo.
“y/n. You don’t need them anymore.”
You pause, the lighter in your hand feeling heavier by the second. With this, you’re truly erasing all parts of your former family and friends. Just then, your phone buzzes— you barely need to look at it to know it’s a string of curses from your ex-best friend.
Suna grimaces as he deletes the message, examining you out of the corner of his eye.
“You’re right, Suna. I don’t.”
You watch as the pictures go up in flames, holding back tears.
Looking around your now empty apartment, Suna wraps his arm around your shoulders.
“I always thought your walls would look better bare.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In and out.
In and out.
There’s something so comforting about the way you breathe.
You’re lying motionless on Suna’s large bed, curled into a ball.
Adorable.
Sighing, Suna collapses next to you, admiring your eyebrows, the curve of your nose, your lips…
When was the last time he’d felt this content? Reaching out, Suna gently tucks your hair behind your ears, admiring the small s shaped earrings adoring them.
Bringing you here was the best option. It’d taken him a little longer than he’d hoped, but now you were truly in the palm of his hand.
He’d almost slipped up a few times (your gut was much smarter than you) but everything had worked out, hadn’t it.
Since the day he’d first met you nearly a year ago, Suna knew you’d be his.
He’s not sure why, but there’s this thing about him— sometimes, when he sees something, he wants it.
And he’ll do anything to make sure it’s entirely his.
You mumble in your sleep, rolling over to face the large windows that present the city of Tokyo below his feet.
He has it all now.
His phone vibrates— messages from your concerned father.
Rolling his eyes, Suna silently reaches over to your phone, which lies innocently next to your small hand, and unlocks it (the password being his birthday, obviously).
Without hesitation, Suna begins wiping out all traces of the code he’s implanted into your phone.
There would be no more reason to reroute your messages to himself anymore.
Next, Suna makes sure all of your family and friends’ contacts are blocked.
Ensuring your safety is a top priority of his.
He squeezes your device in his large hand, wondering if he should just break it.
If Suna had it his way completely, he’d rather you not have a phone at all.
Tossing your phone back onto your side of the bed, Suna smirks as he unlocks his own device.
Desperate messages from your sister pop up, warning you of your tall neighbor, he threatened to kill me if i didn’t leave y/n please get away from him and go to the police!
Suna slides his thumb across the screen, removing the messages from his screen, and disconnects his phone from yours.
After all, you wouldn’t be getting contacted by those nuisances anymore.
Almost done, then he can sleep peacefully with you—Suna sends the email he’s been working on: a PDF attachment of your final draft of your article on him and a short message of your resignation as an intern, written by yours truly.
Turning over, Suna locks the bedroom door, smiling.
There’s no need for anyone else.
Not when he’s always going to be here for you.

skills & hobbies: basketball, acting, watching movies, everything 90s, skateboarding, opposing authority, bare-knuckle boxing, parties, fast cars, being listened too, painting fingernails.
dislikes & fears: their mother, rules, and the answer no // losing his apartment, never making it to the spotlight, half of their co-workers.
quirks: diagnosis: with adhd in 3rd grade, hates authority, doesn't drink beer
fun facts: had auditioned for the roles of troy bolton and ryan atwood but never got call-backs. was shocked to get a call for chuck bass.
pets: their apartment doesn't allow them, but they have one unauthorized cat who has only one eye, and her tail was amputated. she is a rescue and his baby. her name is pizza.
family: no longer in contact with any of them.
inspirations: fiona & lip gallagher (shameless), killmonger (black panther), jordan wilder (famous in love)
backstory:
they were just a kid from oakland - with about a million and two dreams && a penchant for trouble.
kicked out of public high school only two weeks into their freshman year for fighting, and they didn't regret it. no one made fun of jaime when they returned, painted nails && long hair (or shaved hair, or neon pink hair...) && all, that was for sure.
adversity was part of the lifestyle. they bounced between the houses of their mom's boyfriends or cheap rundown places, and jaime (as the eldest) would come home from school && take care of their two younger brothers while their mom worked, partied, dated, or slept.
the house was a revolving door, and there was almost always 1-4 guests crashing on couches, or even the floor.
what brought everyone together were movies - and jaime loved them, dreamed of living the lives they saw play out on social media && on tv, always thinking of a bigger, brighter future.
the day of their 18th birthday, they left oakland, and somehow got their junker car to los angeles.
it then, immediately, broke down. and so began, the harrowing experience of trying to get your name out in hollywood. it was an uphill battle from the start, and aside from minor roles, posing as extras, and commercials... jaime struggled.
their brothers did not forgive jaime for leaving to pursue his dream, especially as years passed, and jamie continued to struggle. eventually, they stopped communicating at all, finding their own trouble && dream in other ways. the family fractured without jaime.
for eight freaking years, they have been showing up to every casting call, every audition, stalking directors on social media, trying to get into the classy clubs, buying the cheap weed... bouncing between place to place like a bouncy ball.
almost ready to give up, jaime gave it one last go - and landed the role, somehow, for chuck bass. he couldn't more different from them, but it's time to own up to the challenge.
jaime's dreams are coming true... but only if they can hack it on the screen, and bring justice to the legacy of chuck bass. it wasn't until filming began they realized the only reason they landed the role at all instead of one of the bigger names floating around was because their co-star demanded a "nobody" to star alongside romantically; and now, jaime has even more to prove.
wanted connections:
gossip girl cast: they already have a lot of tension with his co-star portraying blair, and though they want to make friends with the crew... they may be acting a little aloof due to the nerves of it all. i imagine tension here but hopefully someone can break the ice? share snacks during break?
rival: someone trying to steal their thunder
showing them the ropes: literally brand new to fame, despite having been in la for 10 years now. they don't know the ins and outs, they still get starstruck, and they have no idea how to say no at the wild parties. someone needs to help him.
the judge-y snobs who think they can't hack it: pretty much self-explanatory but as a brand new face, a nobody from oakland who took this long to finally land something, i'm sure jaime will face a lot of adversity and he will work to win them over in unique ways.
crushes/hook-ups/tinder dates: tbh jaime is here to mingle and mingle they shall do. this is their dream life they are living and the love is overflowing.
the mom friend: eventually i will have jaime lean a little hard into the "chuck bass" personna as the show continues filming... being more of a douche, partying too hard, etc. someone will need to care enough to help them out, would love for this to be a slow burn/slow blossom effect so when they spiral, your muse is there!
party/stoner pals: life of the party, and comes down every night with a well-rolled joint. who else?
taken connections:

the triplets were born and jesse worked long hours as an athlete to provide for her and the kids. after they have grown a little, she hired a nanny so she could finish university, but dropped out to pursue her career as a singer

was a football player most of his life, retired recently and is now a businessman.

favors johanna a lot because he feels like juliet doesn't like her as much as her other children, and as she is also an athlete, she is the one he connects with the most
likes dogs a lot

met her best friend, alexander zhang, during a party the triplets threw when their parents were away. they were smoking weed together and laughing and she never felt that way for no one else, but she was not prepared for a relationship with anyone. that's why she introduces him to her sister, and they start hanging out, but it's nothing serious at first
during a halloween party that's thrown by her parents, she and alexander decide to go as tuxedo kamen and sailor moon together, he approaches her and they hook up. after that, he tells her that he and her sister just became boyfriend and girlfriend, and she almost throws up because she had just betrayed her sisters.
she decides to not tell her because she doesn't want to jeopardize even more her relationship with her sister when she didn't mean any harm by what she did. now she feels that she's catching feelings by alexander, and doesn't know what to do because he feels the same for her, and is only with her sister because he can't get with her.

the feud [or, edward teach vs. the lycra warrior]
by foxtails
Mr Cyclist clearly wasn’t a one off, because once again, he’s in Ed’s seat. He’s in Ed’s seat and his stupid bike is propped up next to him, and he’s wearing a lot of lycra. Full outfit. Like he’s some kind of serious professional cyclist. A serious professional cyclist taking a break to drink tea and eat cake in Ed’s seat. At Ed’s favourite cafe. It’s not a competition or anything, but Ed used to be properly famous. Ed was a professional athlete. Kinda. He was a professional athlete, and he still engages with his sport, even if he doesn’t compete in it. He was here first. So if this guy and his lycra and his expensive looking bike are here to steal Ed’s thunder, he’s not gonna go down quietly. Or easily.
or: Edward Teach vs. the Lycra Warrior that he absolutely, definitely, 100% does not desire carnally. At all. Shut up, Lucius.

This week’s famous person with ADHD is…
Tumblr media
Simone Biles
Who is she? Simone Biles is an American artistic gymnast. She is the third most decorated gymnast in the world and has been described as the greatest gymnast of all time.
Date of birth: March 14th, 1997
Diagnosis: Diagnosed with ADHD as a child
Medication: Biles has stated that she has taken medication for ADHD since she was a kid after her drug-testing reports were leaked (see note below.)
Quote: “Having ADHD, and taking medicine for it is nothing to be ashamed of nothing that I’m afraid to let people know.” [sic]
Note: Biles opened up about her ADHD diagnosis after her drug-testing reports were leaked by hackers in 2016. The reports showed that Biles had tested positive for methylphenidate (Ritalin), a substance that is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. USA Gymnastics released a statement to clarify that Biles’ medication use had been approved and that she had not breached any rules.

The Olympics ended a while a go but I finally wrote this out!
Olympics!Leverage
Parker is a world famous artistic gymnast, an absolute monster on the balance beams and the definition dexterity on the floor. Became a meme because of her terrible track record in interviews, it's not that she's actively trying to be rude or awkward, she just doesn't know how to hold back the adrenaline from performing the perfect floor routine.
Alec Hardison is a nerd through and through and has no shame in revealing in an interview that he only picked up the bow and arrow when he was 12 was because he thought (and still thinks) that Legolas is the coolest character ever. Nana enrolled him in a local archery class to help him with his ADHD, turns out internally roleplaying as Bard the Bowman was great therapy. He likes the recurve bow but his true love is the compound.
Sophie Devereaux is a dressage legend. Her first olympics was as a eventer but she decided her that true passion lies in dressage. She competed in 10 olympics total (7 of them in dressage, won gold in 5, silver in 2 and bronze in 1). Has ridden many horses in many games but her heart will always belong to Griff (short for Maximundo Grift Valegro LAM 15B9) a true white Lusitano Arab mix stallion, they won gold in 2 Olympics together (eventing and dressage). Sophie retired after the tragic death of her husband (and olympic gold medallist sailor) Nate Ford, decided to follow a career as an equestrian games commentator, trainer and social media sensation. Was invited by the BBC to be the main tv host of the Olympics coverage alongside the experts of their respective sports.
Eliot Spencer is a veteran that found himself in cooking and Taekwondo. He still feels like a newcomer, its hard not to when your peers became third-degree black belts at 15 and you discovered the sport at 23 and fresh off war. But goddamn Eliot tries his hardest. Now he is 31, it’s his second Olympics and he’s not going to settle for silver this time, his first and only goal is Gold (the second goal is having fun).
Breanna Casey is a skateboarding prodigy. She’s 16 and thrilled that skateboarding is finally being recognized as a legitimate sport and can finally rub on those mean boomer’s faces the she is an olympic athlete now (take that, you raisins!). She’s super nervous but she’s been on the international competition scene since she was 11, she got this... right? She’s a social media Menace with a capital M, 2 million followers on twitter and brand deals helped her so much with her sport expenses, Nana can only help so much with plane tickets and skateboard equipment. A shitpost master and posting in the middle of competitions is her Brand™ and the public loves it.
Harry Wilson feels like a deer in the headlights of a 12 wheeler truck and the only way out is to narrate what’s happening and he LOVES IT. He won a ticket to the golf preliminaries, got lost on the way back from the bathroom, met a lady he swears he saw on TV once and somehow he’s on national uk television commentating alongside an olympic legend and other experts now. He’s having the time of his life and if someone noticed the odd one out here they haven’t snitched yet.
The majority of the crew doesn’t have a criminal background (I’m looking at you Parker) but when they notice that judges are being very unfair and showing favoritism they couldn’t sit still. They bump into each other while snooping around.
Plot twist: turns out the judges are being paid off by a multibillion dollar company to tip the competition towards athletes sponsored by this corporation and that would bring them the most profit.
The payments are made in hard cash envelopes and hand delivered to avoid any paper trail.
The grand heist is to intercept the 8 suit cases full of cash being delivered in the next 7 days, expose the judges and donate the bribe money to the wronged athletes.
Everyone is trying to be very professional and careful. Harry’s still having a great time.

Can play electric guitar
Taranee
Lesbian, duh

Always carries band aids because of how clumsy Will is
Is pretty decent at most sports, but basketball is her fave
Very toned arms. Like. Holy fuck
A morning person
The mom friend of the group
Cornelia
The comic/graphic novel version, not the cartoon version cuz the cartoon version is a bitch.
Lesbian, but due to the pressure from her parents to be perfect and what not, it took her a while to figure out
Has a huge crush on Irma and honestly thinks she's really funny but has some internalized homophobia and acts like she doesn't like Irma
Absolutely hates mornings
Thinks she's the mom friend of the group
Gets stressed over getting a B on anything
Starts donating her hair after high school
Hay Lin
Bi
Ace
She/they pronouns

Like, literally, you could give her a kinda interesting rock and she'd get so fucking happy about it
Is very uncomfortable in super clean spaces. Where's the clutter?????
Could be Tik Tok famous if she could remember to post regularly
Runs a well known tumblr art blog

ok guys let’s sit down and have a think about the way we talk to kids, particularly neurodivergent ones, and the weight it carries
the other day, I opened up to a friend about something really hurtful my best (and only) friend said to me when I was fifteen. It was a moment of emotional intimacy and the first time I had brought it up seven years later and, once again, I got laughed at and told I was too fucking sensitive
and ok maybe yeah I was a ridiculous child. I’m a ridiculous adult, that shouldn’t be surprising. But this hurt and hurt and hurt and I was trying to think about why this in particular and not anything else was so painful
so here’s the situation. at fifteen, like many smart kids, everyone thought the world was open to me. Ok I had no social skills to speak of and was ostracised by teachers and students and family, but I was an optimistic kid, and in a disaster of a home situation (involving kidnappings and court cases and running away and being out of school for a year and a brother starting drugs at 12 and living in a shelter and basically just a LOT) I was always the smiley helpful one. and apart from being defeated by very simple mechanisms like idk drawers or biscuit packets, I picked things up quickly. I took GCSEs early and extra and tutored others; I was a regional competitive swimmer in breaststroke and open water; I taught myself the flute and got into an international touring youth orchestra without lessons; I won a poetry competition for adults in primary school; I played competitive netball and was a long distance runner; I drew and sold my art; I wrote shitty novels and started making conlangs and was interviewed on bbc world about it; I loved performing and was invited to join a theatre company when I left school; and my biggest passion in the entire world apart from Tolkien was martial arts. And the best thing was for my parents - one of whom was disabled and didn’t work and the other who was a cleaner - is that I worked two paper rounds and tutored younger children and earned all of the money for it myself. blah blah blah. I was your mum’s friend’s kid.
well, I’m a disaster adult, so you can probably guess that none of that lasted for very long. and there are gazillions of people here with exactly the same story.
the point in question, though, was when I was fifteen and thinking about sixth form (the last two years of school in the UK) it was becoming clear alarmingly fast that you weren’t allowed to just keep doing everything you loved. at some point you had to make a choice.
but how could I give up swimming for music? Or music for languages? Or languages for athletics? Or athletics for theatre? or, actually, all of them but one???? how did people just know what they had to do with their lives? how did they choose?
the problem was, I said to my friend, I know I could do well at any of them, so how was I supposed to choose? (tactless and a stupid thing to say and also just not true but I was fifteen and simultaneously disgustingly cocky and cripplingly insecure) And he laughed and said, well, fuck you then.
oh noooo. poor meeeeeee. I’m so fucking good at things what do I dooooo
I haven’t stopped thinking about that comment for seven years. Every single time I think about wasting my potential, every time I can’t sleep because I’m terrified that I’m not being productive or useful and hating myself because I’m upset that I can’t do something right away and I know it’s a stupid thing to be upset about - I think about that comment. I’m lucky. It’s alright for some.
because, actually, being expected to know what to do with your life aged 15 is a fucking terrifying thing. we were kids at fifteen being told to make decisions as if we had all the facts, as if we weren’t also being blindfolded and spun around in circles until we couldn’t stand. Do you do what your parents say? what you think you want to do? what your teachers say? do you just stay in education even though it’s not for you because your dream is stupid, or because you don’t have a dream like everyone else seems to? are you supposed to have a dream?
*it’s NOT a stupid thing to worry about*
particularly when? well, when your entire self worth equates to the things that you output, the things that you do. so just for a moment, put yourself in the shoes of all of these wonderful, dazzling, damaged, crazy kids with big dreams and big hearts, kids that are struggling right now and kids that are our future, and imagine that you’ve been told since you were old enough to read or speak or walk that you’re just so very clever
isn’t it just wonderful how clever you are? isn’t it just great how we never need to worry about you? you’re such an easy child, it’s a blessing. always so considerate, so thoughtful, never making a fuss! isn’t it just fantastic how well you do in school? I can’t imagine what it must be like to have a child who went to all of those nasty parties. you’re so dedicated
raise your hand if you were only ever told you were good. raise your hand if you were never told you were kind.
so, what happens? you take a child, and you tell them for its entire childhood that they’re clever. You don’t tell them that they’re creative, or hard-working, or dedicated, or driven, or helpful. You let them know that it’s ok that they’re weird, because they’re going to be successful. what do you think parents say to their kid who’s crying because she has no friends and she doesn’t understand what the other children are thinking and why they would hurt each other like that? even good parents, the very best of them, say things like: you’re just more mature than they are. it doesn’t matter. keep your head down - you’ll show them.
your child, in the best case scenario, has access to her hyperfixation that makes the world big and bright and beautiful. she’s a bit weird, but it’s kind of cute. anyway, she’s good at it. and as long as she succeeds, conventionally, and you get to brag, then it’s ok that she’s a little bit unconventional.
and then things to break, just a little. and then, aged eleven, your child is having an asthma attack in the classroom because she got so anxious she couldn’t answer a maths question she couldn’t breathe. it’s ok, her parents tell her the next day. you’re just not good at maths - that’s alright. you don’t have to be good at everything
your child, because she’s perceptive, begins to realise that things don’t get better as you get older. people are just as cruel at 12 as they are at 7, and they’ll be just as cruel at 15. and then one day, as a bad joke because she doesn’t really understand humour, she writes a fake text to her dad from someone’s phone in legalese that actually has a secret code hidden it in that she knows her dad will crack right away because he’s brilliant. she thinks it’s hilarious. her father thinks he is being threatened, and spends the next week in meltdown, bedridden and burnt-out. and when she owns up, he turns and snaps at her, and says as if you could write something like that. an ADULT wrote this, not a fucking child
and suddenly, that cleverness they kept talking about? they don’t even understand that.
suddenly, no one sees her at all.
she needs to learn to be like the other kids. to be like a fucking child. and while she’s learning, she doesn’t speak for a year
that happened to me, but take your pick - I’m sure you don’t have to look far to find examples of your own.
My point is this: if you tell a child for their entire life that the only thing that is worthy of being loved is what they achieve, if every time they do something they love you tell them oh, you could be a famous writer! you’re so talented! rather than saying that you loved listening to their story, if you only praise them when they’re good and quiet and convenient and tell them that as long as they succeed, it doesn’t matter if they don’t have friends or if they’re miserable, and THEN you tell them to choose ONE THING and drop 90% of everything that makes them who they are -
what the hell did you THINK was going to happen??
because here’s the first thing. for many kids, whether that’s because of neurodivergence or age maturity or whatever, hyper fixations and hobbies aren’t just things they like to do. THEY ARE LIFELINES. they’re the things these kids go to when they’re hurt, angry, upset, because they make sense. for many kids, especially but not always girls, they are able to camouflage themselves and mask tendencies of neurodivergence because they’re ‘good students’. at a family gathering once, my mum, so frustrated at my inability and lack of desire to talk to any members of my extended family, snatched my German grammar book and locked it in the boot of the car. knowing that I escape and read it in the toilet was the only thing keeping me going, exhausted and stressed and overwhelmed. I vomited on the grass.
and here’s the second thing. you tell us from an early age that they only way we’ll ever be acceptable to the rest of society is if we succeed. autistic kids are fine, as long as they’re international maths olympiad champions. adhd kids are fine, as long as they’re famous athletes. if you’re obsessed with musicals that’s ok, as long as that obsession leads to a well-paying job as a successful writer on Broadway.
and then you tell us that we only have one chance at that success? and this decision determines the rest of our lives? and that we had so much potential when we were kids, and we better not waste it now? that not everyone is so lucky to be able to choose between so many things??
because being asked to choose between these things isn’t being asked to choose a hobby. when the only way anyone else defines you positively is by your success in one area, that becomes your entire identity.
so no, we’re not being too sensitive when you ask us to pick and choose what career, or what hobby to take forward. you’re not asking about hobbies. you’re asking us to choose what kind of person we want to be. you’re asking us to choose the most impactful way we can give back to the world, because we can’t waste those god-given talents. you’re asking us to figure out, still a child and hopelessly lost, what our purpose on this planet is. and you’re looking at us as if the ways that we survived all of these years, the things we clung to for comfort, are things we can just cast aside without further thought
ask me now, and I’ll tell you that’s not the way things work. we have second chances and third ones and tenth ones, we can be different things to different people and we can do different things at different parts in our lives, and be successful in different areas. life isn’t a fucking flowchart. and I’m still trying to come to terms with all the things I could have been, and my freak-outs about ‘wasted potential’ are so clockwork I could plan my calendar around them, but I’m beginning to understand that life doesn’t end when you’re twenty, or when you haven’t written a best-seller by eighteen. you have time.
but at fifteen? at fifteen, that question broke me.
do you know what you can do instead? you can show a little thoughtfulness. you can be kinder, and lead by example, and praise your kids when they’re kind too. when your son runs to you and shows you what you think is a better picture than you - a stick figure artisan, if you say so yourself - could ever create, you can actually just say you really like it. you can ask him if that’s him and daddy and the dog on a cloud. describe the picture back to him, and engage with this thing he’s made from his imagination - tell him the clouds he’s drawn are so big and fluffy and white, and ask if there are giant spiders living there. you know how to shut a child up? tell them yes dear, it’s wonderful. don’t be that person. promote your kid’s creativity - ask questions, have fun, play with this thing they’ve made - and not destroy it
when your daughter comes to you and shows you a song she’s written, don’t tell her she’s so talented or that she could be a musician one day. just sing along. ask her why she wrote it, and what she was thinking of when she did. ask her if she could make it different for two people singing it at the same time.
and if your child just really, really loves maths? let them do maths. it’s ok if their interests are stereotypical - as long as they love it and it’s fun, supporting them is wonderful. the best present my father ever got me was five hours of tutoring - an introduction to linguistics!! - when I turned twelve, starting on my birthday at 8am. I had never felt so understood and so loved.
as much as these simple things can destroy someone’s life, can stop them talking for a year, you have the chance to be that one voice of kindness that is a friend where a young person needs it most.
for me, this was the Bus Lady. I never knew her first name because I forgot immediately and was too embarrassed to ask again, but we got the bus together for two years right before I applied to university - she was a trainee teacher at my school. she saw that I missed tutor group and sat in the corridor every morning writing, and that I ran laps for an hour every lunchtime instead of sitting alone. but she came and sat with me one morning and asked what I was doing; I was developing a new shorthand and told her so warily.
she didn’t raise her eyebrows or say wow, that’s...that’s amazing. instead she frowned and looked at me skeptically and said ‘But why would you do that? There are plenty of functional shorthands out there - what does your shorthand have that they don’t? Tell me about it.’
I had no idea what to say
this was the first time anyone had actually ENGAGED in any capacity with what I was doing. and just like that, just by treating me seriously and asking valid questions and pointing out inconsistencies, I was a person who happened to have an idea that was in some serious need of questioning, and not a freak
there’s no way she remembers that interaction; she’s been a teacher now for year and probably doesn’t even remember who I am. But I had been this close to not going to university, to not bothering, and she made me stop, and wait a moment
she will never know the difference that that conversation and two months of kindness on the bus from a stranger made in my life.
so let’s be kind to each other, please. let’s be forgiving. let’s challenge each other and let’s engage with kids with special interests and listen to them talk. and so to any educators or teachers or parents or even other kids, I want to say - let’s treat our words seriously and with respect, like we treat our children, because they have immense capacity to hurt, because they can be used for good.
to any other fifteen year olds in a similar position, I just want to say: none of us here on tumblr have properly sorted our lives out, but I promise you it does get so much better.
you’re not too sensitive. you’re not a freak. you’re not only acceptable because you succeed. I know if you’re masking you feel you have to and it’s for survival, and I’m sorry, because you shouldn’t have to. and you should never, never have to think that you ‘have it good’ or that you’re lucky and are not allowed to hurt. there’s always some one who has it worse, and you can’t stop beat yourself up about that. fuck anyone who tells you otherwise. if you have gone through trauma, if you have unhealthy coping mechanisms, if you are depressed or anxious or otherwise mentally ill and some of it stems from this, I am so very very sorry. but you will be ok, even if you can’t write for a couple of years, or even if things change. you’ll get there. speaking as someone who is now writing for the first time in six years, drawing for the first time in longer, it’s scary and new and weird, but you will come out the other side.
and you do work hard. and you are creative. and you are loved. and you are so very, very kind.

The Brittle Family
Felt like getting some artwork for my characters from Brittle Bonds. The Brittle Brothers, along with their aunt. Artwork is by the amazing @harchibudytgorichi From left to right!
Tumblr media
Bruno Brittle (17) the eldest of the Brittle Brothers, and pretty mature for his age. Having been used to helping out his aunt look after the others, he kindly but firmly keeps the rest of his brothers in line. Despite this he tends to be laid back, upbeat, and positive. He is very sociable and tends to be looked at as a role model by many. He’s a superstar athlete and plays a number of sports. Currently he's seen as the top player on the football team and is being offered a scholarship. Is just a little worried about leaving home, but is sure his brothers will be okay without him.
Bruce Brittle (16) the second oldest and tallest of the bunch. Unlike his older brother, Bruce is pretty anti-social and prefers to spend time with either himself or his family. He doesn’t talk much (barely at all) and is usually always tagging along with Bruce. He may be quiet, but he has the worst temper among the siblings and is the last one you want to risk ticking off. Though he doesn’t have the same love for sports (save volleyball) he usually joins any team along with Bruno just to pass the time. His real passion is for computer design and robotic engineering. Is seen as difficult to deal with by most, but isn’t really all the complicated as long you give him space.
Ben Brittle (15) the third oldest of the Brittle brothers. While not as distant as Bruce, he also tends to be on the anti-social side. Struggles with social skills, and likes to stick to his small group of friends and family. Loves music and plays a number of instruments, but is a rocker at his core. He also has a talent for cooking and does most of the baking at his aunt’s cafe. Tends to overthink things and get into his own head. Like his brother Bruce he suffers from ADHD and sometimes finds himself zoning out when he gets too bored or too into a certain task.
Beck Brittle(14) the fourth Brittle Brother. Just a bit on the devious side and probably the most sociable of the group. Spends most of his time showing off his card tricks and trying to win over girls. Loves telling puns (much to his brothers annoyance) and hopes to be a famous card magician some day. A little jealous of Bruno and Bruce since ‘they got all the good genes’ but doesn’t try to dwell on it too much.
Billy & Brady Brittle (12) the twins, and the youngest of the Brittle Brothers. The two are both energetic and love burning off their seemingly limitless energy. Mostly through sports, but also sometimes through pestering their brothers and classmates. Think that they are the best at everything, and though they get along great they constantly compete with one another. Being the youngest they don’t really have any memories of their parents before their aunt took them in. Get curious about their mother sometimes, but their brothers and aunt don’t like talking about her.
Tumblr media
Berta Brittle, who took in her nephews after her brother passed away and her sister-in-law up and vanished on them. She was fairly young herself when she took them in and though she had an interest in MMA she ended up dropping it so she had more time to look after them. She now runs a bakery in Royal Woods called “Suamalie Suamalie”. Confident, tough, but caring, she does everything she can to look out for and help her little ‘warriors’. All of the brothers respect her love and respect her to no end, and there is no argument that she’s the head of the family.
