Bilbo was taking surprisingly well to Valinor. Of course he’d been expecting it to be an adjustment, elves were very different creatures to hobbits after all, but he was certainly in fine comfort here. He’d always got the impression that elves had very- well for want of a better word elven ideas about what constituted a home, it was not his place to criticise but sleeping in trees seemed to lack a sense of cosiness to be perfectly honest, but Elrond seemed to have gone to a heartwarming effort to make his surroundings more familiar.
He and Frodo had been given spacious yet hobbit proportioned chambers in the building (practically a castle really) his wife had made for their household, a display of generosity that he should have come to expect yet still took him off guard. The rooms were filled with lush wall hangings, rugs and throw blankets, each pieces of art, and there were ever so many places one could sit and work away at whatever took their fancy or simply gaze out at the stars or waves crashing against the rocks.
Despite the seeming peace and tranquillity of his surroundings he was not oblivious to the fact that there was tension in the halls. He was proven right when Elrond came in one day after going down to the city, somewhere the hobbits had still not quite worked up the nerve to go themselves as they knew they would stick out like sore thumbs and were not fully prepared to be bombarded with questions and stares.
The Lady Galadriel’s brother Finrod had become familiar company however, when he was not too busy teasing his sister that is, and seemed genuinely eager and impressed with all they had to say. He even seemed enthusiastic about Bilbo’s attempts at poetry, though when he heard a reinterpretation of an ancient romance ballad about the flame haired princess being freed from her tower by a valiant elven prince he had to cover his mouth politely before bursting into a fit of laughter when he met Elrond’s eyes. He apologised profusely afterwards, though Bilbo was still trying to discover what had been so funny.
On this day however Finrod was not in attendance, it was just some of Elrond’s household, his wife and Bilbo in the corner writing a new poem about Beren and Luthien (a little overdone perhaps but still an incredible story). Elrond hung his cloak on the stand by the door and adjusted some invisible flaw in his braid work before picking up a book and silencing all the numerous proceedings in the bustling communal area with one casually uttered sentence from the window seat.
‘I decided to invite my parents over for dinner.’
Glorfindel dropped the plant pot he was holding with a crash, the only noise in the stifling silence. Everyone seemed to take that as their queue to leave whatever they were doing and walk calmly, run like their lives depended on it for the doors, some even for the windows. All except Bilbo that is, he wanted to hear what it was that made all these dignified and battle hardened immortal beings scatter like young hobbits pillaging Farmer Maggot’s grounds.
Glorfindel spoke and his voice was definitely trembling, goodness what could this be about? ‘Which- which parents would these be Lord Elrond?’
Elrond didn’t look up as if he hadn’t noticed the panic he’d unleashed and twirled his bookmark about his fingers while replying absentmindedly. ‘Hmmm? Oh, well I really didn’t want to start off on a note of picking some over the others after so many millennia apart so I thought it best to meet them together, clear the air and all that rather than leave things fester. I’m quite done with letting things go unspoken you know.’
‘You what.’ The Balrog Slayer trembled and shook, he who had laughed in the face of the Nazgûl.
‘What in all the lands of Arda could have possessed you to- Elrond! Are you trying to get us all killed?!’
‘Oh, peace Glorfindel, my family aren’t going to kill each other or you.’
‘Elrond your families killing each other is how you got one of them! Which is still severely fucked up by the way and so ridiculously unhealthy I don’t even know what to do with it.’
Elrond huffed at Glorfindel’s hysterics, ‘Honestly, it’s fine. It’s just dinner. They’re hardly going to sour their first meeting with me since before the destruction of Beleriand just to be petty.’
Bilbo privately thought that there was very little certain family members wouldn’t do to be petty, especially where ill advised family dinners were concerned. Tonight should be entertaining at least. He wondered if the elves, with the wisdom of many ages would be able to restrain themselves.
Glorfindel sighed and leaned forward onto his hand muttering something that, despite Bilbo’s incomplete fluency in the language, sounded suspiciously like swearing. ‘Well I suppose there’s nothing we can do now except send as many to safety as we can spare and pray to every Valar we can think of.’
‘And hide the breakables,’ Elrond chimes in lightly seemingly unperturbed by the very dangerous individual who was looking gradually more and more murderous. ‘Naneth used to throw things at the wall after receiving letters from Atya. Best hide any weaponry as well. Maybe serve something that doesn’t require sharp cutlery?’
Glorfindel inhaled slowly several times while staring down his significantly younger lord. ‘I hope you know Elrond, that the only reason I am not throttling you right now is that I do not want to upset the Lady Idril by causing injury to her only grandchild. She terrifies me, perhaps more than you and your parents but it is a fine fucking line.’
As Glorfindel headed out to try and pull the house into some semblance of readiness for the seeming impending disaster Elrond lifted his gaze from his novel and stared out at the rolling ocean before him. While only moments ago he had seemed light and teasing, as if he were secretly aware of and enjoying the turmoil he’d caused, something Bilbo had become more and more accustomed to seeing from him since their arrival on these shores, now he appeared every inch of his years, an ages long loss lined in those bright eyes and a trace of hesitance that was even more alarming.
‘Are you quite alright lad?’ Elrond’s mouth moved into familiar expression of amusement at being referred to as such by one so many times his younger and that was something at least though his eyes didn’t change.
‘Everything’s alright, it’s only just- well it’s been so long Bilbo. I know coming from me that may sound unusual to you, but I’m talking about things that happened in the First Age of the world, in Beleriand for goodness sake, that entire continent hasn’t existed for over seven millennia. So it’s just hard- I’ve spent so long imagining this day and I truly have no idea how it will go. It’s been so long since I’ve had parents and now- I might finally get that connection again but what if it fails? They haven’t seen me since I was a child, some of them anyway, what if they don’t like the person I am now?’
‘Any parent would be proud of having someone like you for a child, Elrond. I’m sure it will go splendidly, why they must have missed you dreadfully, I can’t imagine being separate from Frodo for so long.’ He was touched deeply by this elven lord opening up to him about such worries and resolved to try his best to make tonight go without a hitch. Glorfindel must have surely be overreacting after all, it couldn’t be that hard, could it, to prevent a few people (he was admittedly still unclear on the circumstances that led to Elrond’s parents being referred to as seemingly distinct groups) coming to blows at a reunion with their son?

Eyes that fire and sword have seen and Erestor please! ✨
Anon, after over two months, I finally wrote a fic in response to your prompt! I hope you enjoy it. ♡ Also on Ao3 here!
Eyes That Fire and Sword Have Seen (1k, Glorestor)
“Elrond!”
Glancing up from his paperwork, the Lord of Imladris found the captain of the guard suddenly in his office, looking concerned. Honestly, Elrond had expected this moment, and he was surprised that Glorfindel hadn’t come by earlier. He gestured for the other Elf to sit down, but Glorfindel shook his head, blond curls whirling around his shoulders.
“It’s urgent,” Glorfindel said. “Erestor has been in his room with the door locked all day.”
At that, Elrond sighed. He did not have to guess at why. Last night, a traveling Elf had recognized Erestor as one of Fëanor’s former followers. Needless to say, the ensuing conversation had not gone well. Erestor had fled, and since then, he’d apparently been in his room, unwilling to come out.
“Can you blame him?” Elrond asked.
“No, but he can’t sit in there forever. He hasn’t had breakfast or lunch. And I’m sure there’s work he wants to get done instead of ruminating.”
Elrond smiled. The captain of Imladris was always so concerned about his chief counselor. If he didn’t know better, he would have said that Erestor and Glorfindel were courting – but Elrond knew better. Those two could dance around each other for a century without either of them making a real move.
“Have you tried talking to him?”
“Unsuccessfully. I don’t think he wants to talk to me.”
Of course. Elrond doubted that Glorfindel had known about Erestor’s past until last night; it was a topic that the counselor rarely discussed. Elrond was only privy to that information as Lord of the Valley, and as someone with a personal connection to the Fëanorians. Erestor and Glorfindel were close friends, but the chief counselor had never wanted the reborn Elf to know about such things.
“Eyes that fire and sword have seen are ever on guard.”
“Elrond...”
“Don't give up,” he urged Glorfindel. “Just take what I said to heart. And keep being yourself."
****
Deep breath, Glorfindel told himself, before knocking on Erestor’s door. He tried to make the knock sound as friendly as possible, but to no avail.
“Go away,” Erestor called. Although the counselor appeared to be sulking, his tone had lost none of its sharpness.
“It’s Glorfindel.”
“Oh,” came a voice, smaller than before. “Definitely go away, then.”
“Come on,” Glorfindel pleaded. “I just want to talk to you. Look, Erestor, you shouldn’t–“ he caught himself, knowing that Erestor loathed being told what to do when he was in a bad mood. “The opinion of some random elf doesn’t matter. So what if he made a fuss about you being a–“
Suddenly, the door opened, and Erestor flung out a hand to grab the collar of Glorfindel’s tunic and pull him inside.
“Don’t talk about it in public, Glorfindel,” he hissed, slamming the door behind them. “For Eru’s sake.”
Glorfindel blushed. He straightened his collar, fingers brushing against the spot where Erestor’s touch had been.
“I thought you Fëanorians had a messy relationship with Eru.”
Erestor gave him a look that made sweet, sunflower-like Glorfindel feel as though he would wither on the spot.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine,” Erestor murmured, yet he was playing with the edge of his shirt sleeve in that way that signaled to Glorfindel that no, he wasn’t fine.
Glorfindel ventured a smile and took a step toward him.
“I just don’t like seeing you like this.”
“What do you expect, Glorfindel?” Erestor scoffed. “They called me a kinslayer to my face. And before you state the obvious, yes, it’s true; I’m certainly aware. That still doesn’t mean I’d like to be reminded of it. I do not feel proud of that time in my life.”
Glorfindel nodded. Then an idea took hold inside his head, and he beamed.
“Well, instead of wallowing in unpleasant memories, let’s go for a stroll through the gardens.”
“What?” Erestor asked flatly.
“Let’s go for a walk!”
“I don’t want to appear in public right now–“
“Come on!”
“Glorfindel, I swear–“
“Fëanorians are banned from swearing!”
****
In the end, after much protest from Erestor, they went for a walk. Glorfindel insisted on putting his arm around Erestor’s, which initially annoyed the counselor, but he relented. In the end, Erestor could not object to being close to Glorfindel. While the captain spoke at length about all of the beautiful flowers in the garden, many of which he’d planted himself during his spare time, Erestor stayed quiet.
“And these daffodils really took off this year. I’m delighted. Last year, they were kind of… I don’t know, droopy? Like Lindir’s face after someone insults his lute playing.”
“Glorfindel,” Erestor began, stopping in front of a bench. He kept his gaze fixed firmly on a rose to his right, not meeting the captain’s eyes. “Why are you trying so hard to cheer me up?”
“Why wouldn’t I?”
Erestor hesitated. He sat down on the bench, and Glorfindel followed suit. His mind was still racing with thoughts of last night. Of the Elf that had spat in his face and hissed, Kinslayer. Which, understandably, brought… Other thoughts to mind, of staring down at his blood-soaked hands and not being able to recognize them.
“I suppose I’m not used to–” Someone looking at me like I’m Arien shining in the sky, his mind supplied, but he didn’t voice the words.
“You are dear to me,” Glorfindel said, “As you are.” It was so honest and open, Erestor felt himself holding back tears.
“You’re going to make an old Elda cry,” Erestor said, managing a laugh instead.
“Oh, come on. You’re not that old.” Glorfindel reached for Erestor’s hand and pressed a small kiss to the inside of his palm. “I would very much prefer to hear you laugh again.”
At that, Erestor’s small smile widened. For a long time, he had thought that he’d followed Fëanor to a place past the point of no return. It was only after living in Imladris that Erestor realized there was a place beyond that one: somewhere he could call home. And Glorfindel was essential to it all.
“Spend more time in my company, and maybe you will.”
****
And if Elrond, admiring the gardens from his balcony, happened to see his chief counselor and captain share a kiss, then he simply grinned and said nothing.

Glorfindel x human!Reader
1.2k words
* * *
You sat in your seat, elbow resting on the table top of your desk with your head in your hand as you wrote across the parchment. Completing the paperwork Erestor had requested much earlier, yet despite your diligence in wanting to help, today you felt horrible. It was autumn now and much cooler, and like clockwork every year you fell victim to the works of a fever and a cold. You shivered slightly, pausing in your writing to let it roll through you before you huddled closer to yourself.
Chills wracked your body, and your heavy winter robes didn’t feel even remotely enough to keep you warm. Your body felt so heavy, and your eyes like iron curtains as you just desperately wanted a nap. Not until you finished this though, as you were determined to get this done. Erestor had relieved you of your duties moments ago, but you had only waved him away until he disappeared from sight with a scowl on his face.
A tickle in your throat began to build as your quill scratched across the parchment, before you had no choice but to give into the phlegmy cough. Your coughing fit filling the library, your hand sliding streaking the paper as you hunched over, trying to stifle the sound but with no success. You groaned as your throat began to grow sore, and left you to grimace as you leaned back in your chair heaving out a sigh of exhaustion.
Closing your eyes for a moment as you tried not to focus on the paper you had ruined, meaning you’d have to start over entirely. All you wished for was to be done and to be in your bed with Glorfindel with a warm fire in the hearth… Chicken broth and tea sounded good too. You were hungry… but anything solid sounded unappetizing.
But you were too stubborn to just listen to Erestor and just go to bed like you wanted, not when there was so much to be done. Before you could open your eyes to despairingly look down at the ruined paper you heard a soft knock on the door frame. Finally you peeled them open, to look and find Glorfindel standing at the threshold. A look of concern furrowed his brows as he looked at you.
Your skin flushed and bags were heavy under your eyes, he watched the way you bundled your robes tighter around yourself to will away the chill you felt. He could tell just by looking at you that you were miserable, he was grateful that Erestor had been the one to fetch him. Expressing his… concerns… for you in his own way.
“Meleth?” He began in a soft and gentle voice, prompting you to hum out at his words. You only closed your eyes again, setting your quill down and hugging your chest trying to keep the robes in place.
“Come, let me get you back to bed.” He said gently entering the small office and standing before your desk, watching the frown that began to pull at your lips at his words. You slowly shook your head, mindful not to do it for too long or you’d make yourself dizzy and nauseous.
“I can’t.” You argued weakly, clearing your throat but it only served to cause you pain and make you grimace. Glorfindel let out a breath of amusement at how adamant that you were to keep working,
“And why not?” He asked you in a lighthearted voice, noting how you still didn’t even make a move to open your eyes and get back to work. All the more reason why Glorfindel had made his way down here when Erestor had said you were sick and ignoring his attempts to get you to leave.
“I don’t have time to sleep off a little cold.” You began inhaling deeply, once again tickling your throat and prompting another coughing fit that rang out loudly. This time Glorfindel frowned, watching the way your body wracked with each cough and seeing the grimace of pain on your face. The sound was raspy and harsh, only giving him more of a reason to get you back into bed and fight your stubbornness.
“There is plenty of time meleth…” Glorfindel assured you as he came around the side of the desk, gently taking your hand and with care pulling you from your seat. You were too tired to fight against him and take your seat back, only going with him as he moved you out of the office and library at a leisurely pace. Not wanting to make you move quickly and cause you anymore discomfort than what you were already feeling.
He kept his arm wrapped around your shoulders, keeping you huddled close to him and Eru that was all you wanted. It felt as though it was taking ages to get back to your shared chambers with your husband, even if the door was coming into view. Through your congestion you could faintly smell chicken broth, were you not feeling so bad you would’ve verbally expressed your appreciation for his thoughtfulness.
Glorfindel having quickly caught on in the few times you got sick when you were courting what seemed to help make you feel better. With Elrond periodically checking in on you to make sure that you weren’t getting any worse. But Glorfindel gained some confidence that this was just another simple cold that would indeed pass after you had some rest.
He pulled himself from his thoughts as he opened the door, walking you across the room and helping you into the bed. Glorfindel smiled softly content that you were comfortably back in bed, covering you with the heavy duvet and listening to the heavy sigh that escaped your lips.
“When was the last time you ate?” He asked gently, moving over to the small table against the wall, you cleared your throat for a moment. Shrugging before you answered him verbally,
“Last night?” You responded in a raspy voice, pulling the duvet up higher and tighter around yourself, it was well into noon and definitely time for some kind of sustenance. Grabbing the cup Glorfindel hurried back to your side, sitting on the edge of the bed and beginning to hand it to you. With reluctance you began to sit up, taking the cup from him.
“Will you lay with me?” You asked, bringing the warm cup to your lips taking a generous gulp, Glorfindel smiled nodding. The many perks of being with an elf, he couldn’t catch your cold and you could lay all over him without worry of sharing your sickness. Without another word Glorfindel climbed onto the bed taking his place in the spot next to you, his arm wrapping around your shoulders and pulling you close to him.
You wiggled closer to him, mindful not to spill the broth all of the bed or yourselves. The heavy weight of sleep finding you again, even as you brought the warm broth up to drink again you couldn’t help but rest your eyes momentarily. Glorfindel leaned over to kiss the top of your head sweetly giving you a gentle squeeze, you sighed out leaning your head against his chest listening to the steady thrumming of his heart.
Only occasionally lifting your head to sip more on your chicken broth, until finally you were far too tired to do so. Carefully Glorfindel took away the cup, setting on the nightstand before pulling the covers up and over your shoulders. Feeling you nestle against him with a small shiver, with another squeeze and kiss to the top of your head from Glorfindel, finally you gave in and fell asleep.
Glorfindel only continuing to hold you full of love and comfort, knowing that come tomorrow you’d be well rested and feeling more like yourself.

Thorin snored.
Loudly.
Amara rose onto her elbow, gazing down at him in the darkness of his chambers. He lay on his back, dark hair spread out beneath him, one hand flung over his head, the other resting on the sheet drawn over his stomach. His mouth was softly slack, and with each inhale, it opened a little wider. For one who was used to sleeping alone and in silence, this was quite the new experience, indeed. Especially since he hadn’t snored the previous evening.
Then again, he’d had more than enough mead at the party. Perhaps that played a part in his noisiness now.
It had been one of the most wonderful evenings she’d ever had. First the party, then the fountain… she smiled, her body still tingling from his attentions as he fulfilled his promise to make love to her beneath the waterfall, and then again when they returned to his chambers. She’d fallen asleep in his arms, her head snuggled in the curve of his shoulder and chest.
Only to be rudely awakened by his snores.
Still, it was difficult to be annoyed as she gazed upon him. Seeing him sleeping here was far different from keeping watch over him in the Healing Room. Although the years seemed to fall away from his face, and the traumas and tragedies melted away just as they seemed to in the Healing Room, he just seemed far more restful now. More at peace.
Finally, he went quiet finally, and she savored the sudden silence, sinking back to curve against him, and the arm that had been above his head came down about her shoulders and tightened against her. She smiled, snuggling closer to him, draping her arm over his hips.
“Why are you studying me?” he asked, his voice thick with sleep.
“You woke me up with your snoring.”
He cracked one eye to peer at her. “I do not snore.”
“Oh, but you most definitely do.”
“You have me confused with someone else.”
“I don’t, but I also don’t wish to fight about it. There was one last thing I wished to share with you before we leave and dawn is the best time to see it.”
“See what?”
She pressed a kiss into his beard, then slipped away to move to the edge of the bed, where she swung her legs over the side and said, “You have to come with me.”
“It’s the middle of the night.”
“It’s almost dawn. Trust me.”
He let out a heavy sigh and sat ups rubbing his eyes with both hands. “When I fall from my pony later, it will be your fault.”
“You won’t fall.” She slid into the gray leggings and tunic she’d worn earlier and straightened to see him still sitting against the headboard, the sheets pooled about his hips. His dark hair lay tangled about his shoulders and he still rubbed one eye. “Thorin, please… I really would like to share this with you and I may not get the chance to do it again.”
“Very well.”
She watched with no little appreciation as he rose from the bed and strode across to where his trousers lay draped over the chair in the corner. He climbed into them, turning as he fastened them and it took every bit of will she possessed to not throw herself at him right then and there, but she truly did wish to share this with him before they left.
He paused, one brow rising as he said, “You have that look in your eye.”
“Me? What look?”
“The same one you had before you lured me into that fountain.”
“No.” She shook her head. “No look. I think the darkness is playing tricks on you, dwarf.”
He tugged his discarded henley over his head, his, “I don’t think so,” somewhat muffled by the fabric.
She caught him by the hand. “Hush and come with me.”
“Where are we going?”
“You will see.”
He let out a husky sigh. “Why can you not just tell me?”
“Because even if I did, it would mean nothing to you.” She rolled her eyes as she led him out of his chambers and along the colonnade toward the western lawn. The canopy was still up, the tables beneath it still there, but completely cleared, and Amara did a double take when she saw feet poking out along the northern side. “Is that—?”
“Bofur.” Thorin finished grimly. “He’s good for this. He came to Erebor late because he’d gotten so far into his cups the night before we left and wound up missing the boat. Spent the night under the Lake-town master’s kitchen table. Let’s pay him no mind, the fool. Someone will come along and knock him awake.”
“I hope Elrond doesn’t get upset.”
“It would serve him right if he did.”
She glanced over at him. “You are grouchier than usual, Mr. Oakenshield.”
“I’ve a headache. And I did not plan on being up at dawn.” He squinted up at the sky which was still mostly midnight blue, with only hints of the first pinkish-gold light of dawn. “And it isn’t even actually dawn yet.”
She didn’t answer right away, as she certainly did not wish to start the day off with a fight. Carefully, she said, “Perhaps you had one too many tankards last eve.”
“As if that was even possible,” he scoffed. “A short night’s sleep doesn’t help, either.”
“Oh, are you actually complaining about having to sleep with me?”
“What?” He rubbed his forehead with his free hand, then shook his head. “No. No, of course not. It’s simply I am tired. With a headache.”
“Grump.” She led him away from the colonnade, and toward the southwestern corner, where there was a break in the low marble wall. “When we return, I will make you a headache powder and you will feel good as new.”
“Can we just go back now then?”
She stopped and with a sigh of exasperation, said, “Fine.”
With that, she spun about and started back toward the palace when he caught her by the wrist. “I’m sorry, amrâlimê,” he murmured, tugging her back toward him. “You’re right, I am grumpy and I probably did have too much to drink last eve. Come, show me what you wished me to see. No more complaints, I promise.”
She glared at him, but then relented. “Fair enough. Now, come along.”
He slipped his hand down to lace his fingers with hers and brought her hand up to his lips. “Show me.”
Her irritation faded and she resumed her stride toward the break in the wall. A narrow path began at that break and he paused. “This isn’t like the Northern Pathway, is it?”
“No. It’s far better. Trust me. No orcs.”
He didn’t look entirely convinced, but to her relief, he held his tongue and let her lead him along the narrow dirt trail that wound through leafy oak trees and rose bushes that had just begun budding. It was still dark, but that didn’t matter, for she knew it like the back of her hand.
“When I was still training,” she said, her voice low to keep from spoiling the magic of the woods, “I would come here when things grew too hectic, or if I’d had a terrible day. It’s so peaceful and was a wonderful place to come and think or just get away from everyone else. I tend not to come here so often now, as I need to stay closer to the Healing Room, but that hasn’t dimmed my love for it.”
He looked around, gazing up at the trees that seemed to go on forever. “What is this place?”
“It’s just a wood, Thorin. A place to come and think, or just let your mind wander wherever it might go. I come here now when I have trouble sleeping and need to put as much distance between myself and everyone else as possible.”
“You have trouble sleeping?”
She nodded, looking over at him. “Why do you sound so surprised?”
“Because you are the most serene person I have ever met,” he told her, drawing her up against him. “Nothing seems to trouble you.”
“Plenty troubles me,” she said, slipping her free arm about his waist. “I came up here quite a bit when you and your nephews first arrived.”
“Did they give you a hard time?”
“No. Only you did.” She held his gaze. “You were a difficult patient in the beginning, you know. Very angry and very frustrated and while I understood, it didn’t necessarily make it any easier to hear.”
His eyes softened. “I am so sorry for anything I said then, Amara,” he murmured. “I was not in my right mind.”
“I know. And you are absolutely forgiven. You were in terrible pain, engulfed in guilt, and angry at everyone and everything around you. And that’s not why I brought you here at all.” She slipped her hands free to catch his face between them. “So, I do not want you feeling guilty about what you said or did in those first few weeks, because I, of all people, understand where those words came from.”
“I will always feel the guilt I carry over what I have said and done,” he told her softly. “How can I not?”
She bit back a sigh and shook her head. How did she convince him that it would be all right for him to forgive himself, when everyone else around him already had? His people, his nephews all made that very clear to her. They loved him, respected him, would still do whatever he asked of them, and yet…
“Come. We’re almost there.” She pulled away to lead him once more. The path rose and wound about until they were up on a high promontory. “This is what I wanted to share with you, Thorin.”
As she spoke, she led him to the edge, were rocks ringed the edge like a natural barrier. In the distance, Rivendell’s main waterfall spilled from high above, into a large pool that glimmered like a polished opal set into the earth. To the east, the sun’s rays had just begun to stretch like golden fingers across the paling sky. As those rays touched the earth, Thorin came up behind her, easing his arms about her waist to pull her against his chest. He said not a word, his thumbs brushing lightly against her stomach. She leaned against him, smiling as he pressed his cheek against hers and murmured, “Abnâmul…”
“Isn’t it? I love the sunrise.”
“I meant you, amrâlimê.”
Her eyes stung at his whispered words, her hands coming down to cover his. His arms tightened about her as the sun broke over the horizon to streak the sky coral and gold. The golden fingers reached to the ends of Middle Earth, or so it seemed, and somewhere, in that distance, stood the Lonely Mountain. Thorin’s home. Soon to be her home.
Dawn broke, the light bringing the world to life as birds began their morning songs. She leaned her head into Thorin’s cheek and said, “My mother once told me that the birds sing in the morning because it is their way of letting their partners know they survived the night. It’s a song of hope, of a fresh start to a new day. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I’ve always rather liked the idea that it might be.”
He gave her a gentle squeeze. “I thank you for sharing this, Amara.”
“It’s always been my favorite spot in Rivendell,” she said, her throat tightening as tears stung her eyes, “and I will miss it.”
“We have sunrises in Erebor, you know. And I will gladly watch one with you any morning.”
She turned toward him. “Even if it means a short night’s sleep? When you’ve had too much to drink?”
“Even then.” He nodded. “Not that I had too much to drink, mind you.”
“Of course you didn’t.” She smiled as she met his gaze. Even a short night’s sleep and too much mead the night before couldn’t make him look bad. He was simply too handsome. The morning light caught the amethyst in his hair, the smoke inside it swirling slowly. “I love you.”
His eyes softened once more and he leaned in to brush her lips with his as he whispered back, “I love you, too.”
Amara hated to break that soft, teasing kiss, but she knew he wished to depart Rivendell in only a few hours, and so she pulled back. “We should make our way back. I still have a few things I need to pack.”
“We can come back, you know,” he told her as they made their way along the path toward the palace once more.
“Oh, I know. But it is such a long journey, I doubt we will do so often. Especially once we have children.”
“I say we come back more often then and let them splash in the fountains as well.”
“You just want to see Elrond crack, don’t you?”
“It might be a sight to see.”
“You are evil, Thorin Oakenshield, do you know that?”
“Tell me I am wrong, though.”
“If only I could.”

The Arrangement pt 2
Tumblr media
Strider shook his head with laughter as you fell from a tree. “Owww” you whined. “How is it that you can climb trees but coming back down is an issue?” Strider teased. “I blame lack of balance.” you said. He kneeled next to you, pulling you forward before you winced. He shook his head and you sighed. “When are we heading back?” you asked. “We should be back by nightfall.” Strider said. You almost seemed to pout in response. “Come now, it won’t be that bad.” Strider said, helping you up. “It’s enough that I was born into the the title, but now I have to officially accept it through a ceremony. This is ridiculous.” You huffed. “Buuuttt you can’t get out of it.” Strider said. “I mean... You could kidnap me.” you suggested. He rolled his eyes. “Y/n, you know the deal.” he said. “Alright! Alright. But only if you suffer through the coronation too.” you said. “Y/n, I was already going.” He said. You grinned. “Really? Color me impressed for wanting to be there!” You said. “....I never said I wanted to go, I said I was going” He said.
You two walked, you listening to the trees with a sigh. “What are they saying?” He asked. He wasn’t elven and didn’t have the gift for listening to nature. He had heard from others on how elves could listen to nature. “Others have been through here. Probably on their merry little ways to my official ceremony of suffering.” you said making him shake his head. “Some people would kill for this life.” He said. “When have I been other people?” you asked. “...Fair point.” He nodded.
A wind brushed your face, almost like a caress. You smiled and let out a breath. "It's like the trees know I'm uneasy." You said. "What makes you nervous?" Strider asked. "I have a tendency to... Embarrass myself in front of the royalty in my family." You muttered. "I'm sure it's not--" "I've accidentally stabbed Galadriel with a fork at dinner. Do not finish that sentence." You halted. Strider blinked. "Y/n. Remember, there's at least two friends in that room with you." He said. "Two?" You asked. "I assume you're close with Arwen?" He asked. You nodded slowly but seemed to have a questioning look on your face. "...Yes. You seem to bring her up a lot more, is there something going on between you two?" You asked. Strider rose a brow. "Are you asking me if I'm involved with your sister?" He asked. "Are you?" You asked. "No." He said.
While Arwen was beautiful, she was different. You were more complex, more unpredictable. Arwen was, to put it simply, who Elrond wanted you to be. You had certain similarities, you were unbelievably kind, intelligent, and definitely beautiful. But your beauty was ethereal. It was unreal to Strider how you seemed so beautiful at times where you didn't mean to. When you were pulling back your hair, when you were listening to the trees, when you reading, when you were talking to your sister and laughing with her. It made him question if Arwen was accurate in her thinking.
Something about seeing you actually enjoy home at times made him happy. It let him know that you weren't completely miserable where you were, just not exactly happy with your situation. It was way to assure him that you were okay once he left. At times Strider didn't really want to leave you. Hell. There were days were he actually missed you. He'd keep it to himself but it would show when he'd see you again and he'd smile.
You walked, looking over at Strider who was awfully quiet. "What's going on in that head of yours?" You asked. He realized he had been lost in thought this whole time, being quiet. It wasn't an unusual thing by any means for him to go silent. It was slightly unusual though for him to be silent while staring at you. Course that would be unusual for anyone.
"You'll make a good ruler one day." He said. You let out a small chuckle but realized he was being sincere. "...What makes you say that?" You asked. "You have the heart of a good queen." He said. You blinked, stopping and looking at him. "What?" He asked. "Nothing. Just a odd thing I've heard from a friend." You said. That's when you seemed to perk up. "I just realized something!" You gasped. He blinked. "What?" Strider asked. "Come on!" You ushered him forward. "Wha-- Y/n, what's going on?!" He asked, laughing slightly at your child-like excitement. "One of my friends is coming to this!" You said. "So you do have friends!" Strider teased. "He's actually a prince. Really interesting. Come onnnn!" You said rushing.
You were moving faster now, finally reaching Rivendell as the sun set. Elrond was greeting Galadriel, when he looked over. You noticed the familiar white horse, the elven sigil on inscribed on it's saddle. You dragged Strider with you as you looked around. "Arwen!" You whisper shouted. She looked over. "You're back early." She noticed. "Is he here?" You asked. She rolled her eyes. "I rarely get to see him!" You huffed. She pointed and you dragged Strider by his hand. Arwen shook her head with a small smile as he seemed to laugh. He was in love and she knew it. The question was: did he know yet?
"Legolas!" You called. A white haired figure turned around, a smile falling over him as you hugged him. "It is good to see you old friend!" You said. He pulled away blinking. "There's a man here." Legolas noticed. "Oh, Strider this is Legolas. Legolas this is Strider, my best friend." You introduced. Legolas shook his hand. "I see I've been overthrown as her best friend." Legolas teased. "You're never here to reclaim that title." You said with an eye roll. Strider looked around him, seeing the royalty. He felt slightly out of place but didn't seem to care. "Have you said hello to Arwen yet?" You asked as she walked over. "Not yet-- hello your grace." He answered.
"Good evening Legolas." She said with a smile. "Glad to see my sister is actually enjoying herself." Arwen said. "Is Haldir here?" You asked. "Yes, he's going to be there." Arwen said. She looked at you and sighed. "You need to change Y/n." She said, knowing damn well there would be a struggle. "As do you." She added to Strider. "I--" "I've left clothes in the room you usually stay in, Y/n if you struggle with me tonight out of all nights there will be hell to pay." She said, gritting her teeth while maintaining that sweet smile. "Oh I will wreak havoc." You muttered as she dragged you off, making Strider smile.
"How long have you known Y/n?" Legolas asked, sitting on the edge of the fountain. "A few months." He said. "I take it you're staying for the coronation?" Legolas asked. "Yes I am." He nodded. "Elrond has referred to you as an ambassador of sorts." He said. Strider bit back a laugh at this but nodded. "Word of advice. Stick to the back on the walls with Haldir and me and you should be fine." He said. "You really should change though. Elves in this setting tend to be..." Legolas leaned forward. "Judgmental. Emphasis on the mental." He said earning a silent snort from Aragorn.
Aragorn changed rather quickly, leaving his belongings in what was now basically his designated room. He looked at the ring that rested in one of the pockets in his pack, closing his eyes and remembering simpler times when his father spoke of preparing him for a day like this. Elrond was aware of his identity, giving the ring to him. How Elrond found out was lost on Aragorn, but he knew nonetheless. For some reason, you didn’t know. He wasn’t going to question why but he was confused on why your father wouldn’t tell you that he was the heir to Isildur. He put the ring back in the bag, walking out and back to Legolas.
"Why is Y/n taking so long?" Strider asked. "Have you met her? She's probably fighting Arwen out of the dress as we speak." Legolas said. Truth be told he had never seen you out of armor. Not in royal garb anyway. You were always running wild in your armor, bringing stress to your father when Strider made himself present. "They're making it seem like the coronation is tonight." Strider said, noticing the servants run back and forth. "Tonight is the dinner before it with the leaders. Unfortunately we all must sit and suffer through it." Legolas muttered. "You don't seem to enjoy the royal life like the rest do." Strider noticed. "Me and Y/n share opinions on this. We believe the best way to keep a kingdom safe is to assist the people, making a point to not fear straying outside of the gates to actually protect your land. Instead our rulers don't leave their homes unless it's a political reason." Legolas explained. Strider nodded. "You don't get along with your father, do you?" He asked. "No. I don't." Legolas said. "Hm. I'm really beginning to understand the dynamic of your friendship with Y/n." Strider said. Legolas smiled, nodding. "The parallels of our lives are not lost on us." He said.
Finally you walked down the stairs, air getting stuck in Strider's throat. The dress was blue, sleeves hanging off you. You wore a small silver circlet, really showing your role as princess. "Arwen, this is very uncomfortable." You whispered. "Deal. With. It." She whispered. You rolled your eyes, walking over. "I see she attacked you with a corset." Legolas said. "And my own crown. This. Is. Hell." You muttered. Strider's eyes seemed wide as he looked at you. You looked over at Strider, stopping for a moment. "You... Clean up nice." You said, Legolas noticing the strange tension. "...As do you." Aragorn said. Arwen and Legolas exchanged a knowing look.
Elrond came over, making you cut your attention away. "The dinner is commencing soon, are you ready?" He asked. "Yes father." You said. "Strider is your escort tonight and tomorrow. My gift to you." He said with a slight eye roll. "Thank you father." You said with slight relief. "And you both look beautiful. Your mother would've loved to see this." Elrond said, putting a loving hand to your cheek. You and Arwen gave small smiles. Your eyes seemed to gloss over with sadness. "Strider, a moment please." Elrond said. He followed the lord, speaking with him. "Please try to keep Y/n calm. She has a tendency to... Shoot off at the mouth with royalty. Tonight out of all nights I need her to be proper." Elrond said. "I will do what I can, you know Y/n--" "There is no controlling her." Both of the men said in unison. It was odd really. It was like for a second they were... Bonding? "I can't make any promises, but I will do what I can." Strider said. "Thank you. Oh and if anyone asks, you're an ambassador." Elrond said before leaving. "... Ambassador?" He muttered to himself.
Strider walked back over, you looking at him. He smiled slightly and you smiled back, looking down as Arwen and Legolas talked. "It seems our team is back together." Haldir said, walking over. You chuckled, hugging the man. "team?" Strider asked. "Oh this group usually stays glued to the wall, whispering amongst themselves and trying to break the royal guard." Haldir said. "Break the royal guard?" Strider asked. "Guards here are trained to be very stoic and stone faced. They will stand next to them and get these men with years of training to crack a smirk, smile or laugh." Haldir said with a small laugh. "I believe our record was fifteen minutes, after the words 'flarpy blunderfloof' came out of Y/n's mouth." Arwen recalled making you all laugh. Strider smiled at this. You seemed to enjoy this particular group of people and that was nice, to see a smile like that on your face.
"Y/n, we're starting." Elrond called. You winced. "Shit." You muttered. The group all walked, Strider next to you. Galadriel and Thranduil stood near the table conversating with one another. Your heart pounded in your ears as you stood there, grabbing Strider's hand as an instinct out of fear. He looked over, seeing your frozen features. “Y/n. Breathe.” Legolas said, standing on your other side. “My. feet. won’t. move.” you muttered. “Y/n. It’s a pleasure to see you again.” Galadriel said. You let go of Strider’s hand, Galadriel hugging you, She whispered an incantation in your ear, you immediately feeling calmer. “Thank you.” You whispered. “You seemed anxious.” she said softly, pulling away. “Let’s sit.” Legolas suggested. You nodded, Legolas pulling your chair out for Arwen’s chair out before he sat down. Strider pulled your chair out before sitting next to you, you looking at the elves around you. Legolas nudged you, nodding to the stone faced soldiers by the doors and you bit back a smile.
The evening continued with talks of politics, speaking of the leaders. Then the story of the ring made the air tense “Whatever happened to that ring anyway?” One of the ambassadors asked. “Isildur never disposed of it. It’s been lost ever since.” Elrond said. Strider seemed to tense up, swallowing his drink. You seemed bored by the conversation, Strider taking it as you’ve heard this many times. Arwen looked over at Strider who had a unreadable expression. “I don’t think it has been... Completely lost.” you said, earning looks to you. “Are you implying you know where the ring is?” Thranduil asked. You shifted slightly. “I’ve heard rumblings. From the trees and the earth. Something is happening out there. Something strange.” You said. “I’ve heard similar rumblings myself.” Galadriel agreed. Good. So you weren’t on the brink of insanity.
“Considering how long the ring has been hidden, I don’t expect it to turn up any time soon.” Thranduil commented. “Neither do I. Though it doesn’t hurt to be cautious.” Elrond nodded. “It won’t turn up for at least another twenty years.” Galadriel said. “Experiencing your visions again dear?” Celeborn asked. “This is one I can see clearly.” She said simply. “It will come to us in a unexpected form.” She said. “Will we be rid of the damn thing?” Thranduil asked. “That is not clear.” She said with slight disappointment. Legolas looked over at you with a small distain.
“While we’re on the subject of foresight... Is there any way you can examine Y/n or at least Arwen?” Elrond asked. You turned your vision to Galadriel. “Would you mind?” Galadriel asked. You stood up, moving to her. Thranduil moved so you could sit in his seat, you giving her your hands as you sat. “There are many things to see with you my dear.” She said, closing her eyes. “You have a strong will to protect. Very appropriate for a leader to have.” Galadriel said softly. Strider rose a brow as Galadriel opened her eyes, wide with surprise. “Is something wrong?” you asked. “You will sit upon a throne if the future is hopeful.” She said. “with the man.” She added, everyone’s vision going to Strider. “I don’t think--” “There is more to you than you are telling us.” She said. Strider swallowed hard, disturbed by this comment.
You looked at Galadriel and then Strider. “You are--” “stop.” you halted. Everyone looked to you. “I trust Strider. If he truly has been keeping another identity then he will tell me with time.” You said simply. “You put a lot of trust in someone who’s been lying to you.” Thranduil said, a disapproving look on his face. “It was foolish to assume is birth name was ‘Strider’ to begin with. I think it’s more of a title than an actual name.” You fired back. “She’s not wrong.” Strider said, clearing his throat. “We were well aware of the concealed identity.” Arwen said with a sigh. You looked over surprised. “Foresight runs within my veins as well.” She said. “You know?” Strider asked, now realizing how Elrond must’ve learned this. “I have known for two months.” She said, sipping on her elven wine. She must’ve told Elrond... She had to for him to just abruptly give him the ring. “Strider. A word.” You said, nodding to the doors.
You pulled him into another room. “What the hell is going on in there?” you asked. “I...” He sighed. “I will explain after this. It’ll make more sense.” He said. “Promise me that I can still trust you after this.” you said. He paused, looking in your eyes. “Promise me that you are going to be honest with this, and tell me the truth.” You said. He couldn’t lie to those eyes. Those beautiful, telling eyes. “I will try.” he said. You nodded before walking back in.
The evening continued, an awkward tension over everyone as time passed. Finally though, it was over, you and Strider walking to his room. “Are you going to explain?” you asked. He nodded, walking over to his pack. He pulled out the small silver band, it made to look like two serpents protecting the small emerald in the center. You recognized this and stared at him with wide eyes. “You’re... There’s no way.” You gaped. “I am Aragorn. Son of Arathorn II and Gilraen.” He said. You swallowed. “Now I know why you kept it from me. That’s... Quite a lot of information to process.” You gaped. “Take all the time you need, I understand if this makes things tense between--” “Why haven’t you made a claim for Gondor?” you asked. He put his hand on the back of his head, looking away. “I don’t trust myself to be a leader.” He admitted. “Why?” You asked. “My ancestor, the one from which I receive this ring from, is someone who became mad with power.” He said. You frowned. “What if temptation weakens me like it did him?” Aragorn asked. You stepped forward, lifting both of his hands and pulling back his sleeve and placing both of your thumbs on his veins. “You may share his blood Aragorn. But you will never be like Isildur.” you said softly. “How do you know that?” Aragorn asked. “Because Isildur wouldn’t have been worried about messing things up this badly to a point where he walked away from power.” You said. He looked down and you shook your head. “There’s a heart that beats strong in your chest, one that fights every day to be less like his ancestors. For that I find you honorable.” you said softly.
Aragorn swallowed hard, looking at you with wide eyes. “I should go to bed. Long day tomorrow.” you breathed. “Oh! What do you wish for me to call you?” you asked. “What?” He asked. “You’re clearly uncomfortable by your heritage so do you want me to call you ‘Strider’ or ‘Aragorn’?” You asked. He pondered. “Aragorn when we’re here or just you and me, Strider when we’re elsewhere and in the presence of others.” He said. “You got it, Aragorn.” you said, small smirk coming to play upon your lips as you left.
Aragorn looked at the silver band that now rested on his bed. When he first received this ring it almost seemed to mock him with intimidation. Tonight though, he finally had a voice, clear as day give him reason. For the first time, Aragorn didn’t hate his name. For the first time, he could actually breathe.
For the first time, he wore the ring.

Thief - Elrond x Reader
Tumblr media
Word count: 1852
Note: i am extremely tired, so forgive me for any spelling or grammar mistakes! This is a request for @moony-artnstuff
Waking up, you were startled to say the least. The bandages around your waist, the brightness of the room, your things nowhere near you, it was definitely a startling moment. Sitting up, you grunted, clutching your abdomen before shaking your head.
“Not going to anyone's dungeon today,” You held your breath as you stood up straight, knowing you needed to make your escape quickly.
You see, you weren’t a favored person amongst certain groups, and by that you meant anyone who wasn’t of a commoner status. You were a thief but not exactly a thief. You stole what you needed to survive, and  gave the rest to those who needed it. You started slowly with pickpocketing rich noblemen at taverns, hating the way they would yell at barmaids and not leave a single tip for the trouble they would cause. Using your good looks, you found it easy to lower their guard and take whatever coin they had on them.
Going from pickpocketing to robbing a bank after the rumor of the bank owner forcing their employees to scam the common folk out of more money for the owner’s greed, you had a high bounty on your head to be jailed.
Hobbling down the hallway, you winced as you felt your stitches begin to open. Clutching your side, you hoped the pressure was enough to stop you from bleeding out until you reached safety. “How did this even happen?” You thought as you tried to recall the events before you were unconscious in a bed.
Furrowing your brows, you remembered the previous night. You were traveling by the hidden pass to get to a village on the skirts of Rivendell, having goods to sell before you would try to rent a cottage to stay low during the winter months.
“Orc blade,” You thought, noticing the deep purple lesions after taking a peek under your bandages to see how bad it was. You were ambushed by a raiding party of orc’s, and while you consider yourself a decent swordswoman, you were no match for eight orcs plus their wargs guarding their masters.
A shout of surprise broke you from your thoughts, the sounds of quick footsteps making you hurry down the hall, until you found stairs that lead to a lower level of the building. “I will not be put in prison for helping people,” You whispered as you hobbled down the stairs.
“Please, Miss! Your stitches will come loose!” You paid no mind to the worry in the healer's voice as you broke into a sprint, now hearing more footsteps following the healer’s. “Must be guards” You thought as you ducked into a new hallway, watching as the healer and several guards go past. Nodding in satisfaction for outsmarting them, you took a look out the window, grinning when you saw stables. “A horse would be the easiest way out of here…” You mumbled, wincing when you heard a guard shout, “She’s here!”
Elrond was trying to enjoy his morning. He had a wonderful cup of tea imported from the Shire with some berries coated in honey. But now, he was annoyed to say the least. When he found out the human they had found near the hidden pass was awake, he was overjoyed, happy to go speak to you and question you about the previous night’s events. However, he wasn’t overjoyed to hear that you were running away. From what? He didn’t know.
Elrond sighed as he approached his head guard and healer. “My Lord,” they bowed, “We believe her stitches have come open,” They motioned towards the floor, where several blood spots were gathered on the floor.
Sliding out the window, you looked down to the ground. It was a far jump for sure, however, you’d rather take a broken ankle over being imprisoned for the rest of your life until you were executed by whatever royal you managed to piss off. Taking a deep breath, you held in a scream as you fell to the gardens near the stables, the shock making your knees hurt for a moment before you grinned. “No broken ankles today!” You cheered as you ran toward the stable. Slipping into the first occupied one you could find, you loaded the horse with a saddle. “C’mon darling, let’s get me outta here,” You cooed, clicking your tongue to get her to start walking.
Your blissful escape was then ruined, by a guards voice. “You! Stop!” They yelled out, causing your horse to turn around to face him. “No way,” You whined, tugging on the reins, “This way, escape time, not guard time!” You cried as the horse continued walking closer, your expression downcast as the healers, guards, and Lord Elrond watched you pout at them.
“Traitor,” You hissed at the horse as the healers helped you off of him.
“You seem to have broken horses.” You said blankly, crossing your arms over your chest, waiting for the guards to put chains around your wrists and ankles.
“And you thankfully do not have any more injuries.” Elrond sighed, looking you over.
“Why were you running?”
“Why wouldn’t I run?” You questioned back, cocking your hip to the side.
“We aren’t trying to harm you, human, we found you on our borders and wanted to take care of your injuries.” The healer explained, wincing at the amount of blood surrounding your wound. How you managed to rip all of your stitches  in such a short amount of time, she didn’t want to know.
“You… weren’t trying to put me in prison?”
Elrond cocked a brow, “What would we imprison you for?”
“Oh, nothing at all.” You grinned, but it slowly fell from your face as you saw the guard you punched in your escape, a bruise freshly forming.
“Ah… My apologies… For punching your guard, and for trying to escape with your horse…. And for ripping open all of my stitches,” You sheepishly rubbed the back of your neck as Elrond shook his head, the healers guiding you back to the healing chambers.
-
“That’s how you first met my father?” Arwen wiped the tears from the side of her eyes from laughing so hard.
“Indeed.” Elrond hummed from the entryway to the gardens you two were sitting in.
After your initial big escape plan failed, you ended up remaining in Rivendell, being offered asylum from those who sought to persecute you for your actions. Along with your new home, you developed friendships with many along the way, Arwen, Lindir, Elladan, Elrohir, and even Elrond, just to name a few.
Elrond and you had become the closest, you’d have to say. For you two were the quickest to develop a rapport. You both had similar interest in books, and he often came to you for advice when dealing with human leaders of villages and towns, to help him determine the best ways to help the people and not the politicians.
“Well, I think I am going to head off to check on Aragorn, I think he’s gone much too long without seeing my face.” Arwen laughed as she stood from the grass, giving her father a knowing look as it ended up just being the two of you in the gardens.
“Don’t be a stranger,” You nearly laughed at his stiffness, not seeing him so wound up looking for a very long time. “Come on, sit down,” You patted the grass next to you as you laid down to look up at the moon.
Elrond strode over to you, sitting beside you quietly.
“What’s wrong?” You questioned after a moment of silence, easily being able to understand that something was upsetting him for him to not interact with you.
“Are you happy here? With us.. With me?” Elrond asked, looking to the stars to ask Valar for guidance.
“Of course I am, why? Has something made you doubt that?” You questioned, propping your head up on your hand, your elbow digging into the cool dirt.
“Not exactly, no.” Elrond was a very calm and collected man, he wasn’t outright with his emotions, knowing how they can easily influence decisions and how people would react to him.
Frowning, you tried to decipher his body language but couldn’t figure out quite what was upsetting him.
“You speak a lot of your friends, your human friends.” Elrond stated suddenly, looking to his lap instead of the stars. “I just wanted to ensure you were okay.”
It made sense now. He was worried how you were being affected, forced to see your own morality smack against their immortality.
Grinning, you allowed yourself to relax back down into the grass blades.
“I miss them, that’s for sure. I miss the events that created fond memories.” You spoke soft, noticing him tense slightly before continuing. “However, I am so happy to be able to create new meaningful memories with all of you.”
Deciding to take a chance, you placed your hand over his, watching as his eyes widened as the softness of your skin enveloped his senses.
“Especially with you, Elrond.” You waited until his eyes focused on your face before giving him a soft smile.
Elrond felt his anxieties leave him as he drowned himself in your gentle expression, moving to lace his fingers with yours.
“I have a confession to make, (Y/n).”
Tilting your head as a silent cue to continue, you refused to acknowledge the heat crawling up your neck from the feeling of his hand encasing yours.
“I have developed feelings for you, for quite some time. I hadn’t wanted to approach you with them because I didn’t want to endanger our friendship.”
“Elrond--”
“I’m in love with you, (Y/n), and it would be an honor to court you.” Elrond’s eyes focused on your face, analyzing your expression as you struggled to comprehend his words.
Elrond slowly let go of your hand, taking your silence as a form of rejection.
“I understand, I hope this does not affect our friendship-”
“No, no… I feel the same,” You found your words, reaching out to grasp his hand back in yours again. “I would love to be courted by you, Elrond.” You grinned, watching as a smile tugged at his lips.
-
“That’s how you and Ada got together?” Your daughter, Aredhel questioned from her spot in bed, tucked in tight with her stuffed bear in her arm.
“Indeed,” Elrond came in like how he had so many years ago, except instead of coming in here to confess his feelings for you, he came to give your daughter a goodnight kiss.
“Mama was so amazing…” She sighed dreamily, snuggling into her blankets.
Laughing you pecked her forehead, pulling back to allow Elrond to do the same before he tugged you off the end of her bed and into your bedding chambers. “You are amazing,” He cooed to you before pressing his lips against yours.
“Why thank you my Lord,” You teased, returning his kiss.
You started out as a thief for the people, and now you were a thief to a Lord, your bounty growing ever higher for stealing his heart.

PERFECT SECRETS - CHAPTER 3
Legolas x OC

THE COUNCIL OF ELROND
While Gandalf and Mira climbed the stairs, she asked him why he had summoned her. Gandalf wouldn’t say, only telling her to be patient and that everything would be cleared up at the ‘Council of Elrond’.
When the pair reached the top of the stairs, they were welcomed by Lord Elrond.
The Council hadn’t begun yet, and Mira was a bit surprised to see more people than she expected to be at a secret meeting. A delegation of Elves, Dwarves, Men and one small Hobbit were seated in a circle, around a rock with a flattened surface.
They were looking towards her and Gandalf. She could hear them mutter amongst themselves asking who the hooded lady was. She smirked confidently. Let them guess, she thought. They’ll never know.
Elrond gestured to take a seat in the two remaining empty chairs, one next to the Hobbit and one between Legolas and the other Elves. Did Elrond suspect something?
Mira looked back at him, but he had already turned around to take a stand at the head of the circle. Gandalf took the seat next to the Halfling, whispering a few words into his ear. She hesitated for a few seconds, before walking around the outside of the circle to the wall of the building, feeling the eyes of everyone piercing her back. She turned around and leaned with her back against the wall, arms crossed, one foot over the other.
It was her way to say she didn’t belong to the Elves nor Men, keeping the mystery alive. Plus she preferred to be in the background anyways. Gandalf nodded at Elrond, signaling that the Council could begin.
“Strangers from distant lands, friends and old. You have been summoned here to answer the threat of Mordor. Middle-Earth stands upon the brink of destruction. None can escape it, you will unite or you will fall. Each race is bound to its fate; this one doom. Bring forth the ring, Frodo,” Elrond asked the small Hobbit. Frodo stood up and carefully placed a small golden ring on the centered rock.
“So it’s true,” one of the Men gasped, his eyes fixed on the ring. “In a dream, I saw the Eastern sky grow dark. But in the West a pale light lingered. A voice was crying: your doom is near at hand. Isildur’s Bane is found.” He was on his feet now, and got dangerously close to the ring.
“Boromir!” Elrond warned him. He sat down at once.
“Frodo, will you tell us how this ring came to you and the troubles you have faced already?” Gandalf asked the Hobbit. Everyone listened to his story, how he inherited the ring from Bilbo, that he had encountered Black Riders, fought against them and got stabbed by a Morgul Blade in the process.
Mira had listened to him intently. It was remarkable how such a small being had endured so much in so little time, there was no doubt this was the One Ring. Hobbits never cease to amaze her.
The sky turned dark and ominous. Gandalf’s voice became deeper, there was a strange echo when he spoke. The moment he spoke the first words, Mira got a splitting headache.
“Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul” (One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them)
Mira shook her head, trying to get rid of the headache. She didn’t want anyone to notice something was wrong, but she recognized the pained expressions from the other Elves. She was not the only one who felt it.
As soon as Gandalf finished, the sky cleared and so did the headache.
Lord Elrond gasped, definitely not happy with Gandalf’s actions.
“Never before has any voice uttered the words of that tongue here in Imladris!”
“I do not ask your pardon, Master Elrond, for the Black Speech of Mordor may yet be heard in every corner of the West! The Ring is altogether evil!”
Well, he does have a point there, Mira thought to herself. Gandalf had been right, they were on the verge of war. If they had the One Ring, Sauron would do anything to get it back.
“It is a gift. A gift from the foes of Mordor. Why not use this ring? Long has my father, the Steward of Gondor, kept the forces of Mordor at bay. By the blood of my people are your lands kept safe! Give Gondor the weapon of the enemy. Let us use it against him!” Boromir demanded.
“You cannot wield it! None of us can. The One Ring answers to Sauron alone. It has no other master,” the ranger answered him.
“And what would a ranger know of this matter?” Boromir sneered back.
At this point, Legolas stood up from his chair.
“This is no mere ranger. He is Aragorn, son of Arathorn. You owe him your allegiance.”
“This is Isildur’s heir?” Boromir asked, just as Mira thought the exact same thing.
“And heir to the throne of Gondor,” Legolas countered confidently.
Mira would say it was more arrogant than confident but maybe she was a bit biased.
“Havo dad, Legolas,” Aragorn said to him, trying to calm him down. (Sit down) Legolas obeyed, but kept a stern look on Boromir. Mira could tell the tension was building. It wouldn’t take much before they’d start killing each other. She hadn’t missed the angry glances between the Elves and Dwarves.
“Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king,” Boromir muttered angrily before taking a seat again. His attitude was starting to get on Mira’s nerves. What was it with men and their pride, always wanting to have the last word?
“Aragorn is right. We cannot use it,” Elrond intervened, trying to clear the tension. “You have only one choice. The Ring must be destroyed.”
“Then what are we waiting for?” One of the Dwarves jumped out of his seat and tried to destroy the Ring, shattering his axe in the process.
Mira chuckled, noticing the stunned expression of the Dwarf upon seeing his ruined axe. She liked this one, he was straightforward and didn’t hesitate.
“The Ring cannot be destroyed, Gimli, son of Gloín, by any craft that we here possess,” Elrond said to him. “The Ring was made in the fires of Mount Doom. Only there can it be unmade. It must be taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm of whence it came. One of you must do this.”
He looked around the circle, but there was no reaction.
Boromir sighed heavily. “One does not simply walk into Mordor.”
He continued warning everyone about the dangers Mordor held for anyone who dared to cross the Black Gates. Legolas interrupted him, clearly fed up with the man of Gondor.
“Have you heard nothing of what Lord Elrond has said? The Ring must be destroyed!”
“Well yes, Elf Boy, we all heard that,” Mira muttered silently, rolling her eyes. She knew he would be the only one to hear it. Legolas’ head snapped in her direction, his eyes shooting daggers at her. Before he could say something, Gimli interrupted.
“And I suppose you think you’re the one to do it?” he shouted angrily at Legolas. “I will be dead before I see the ring in the hands of an Elf!”
Mira had to admit that was taking it a bit too far. She might be hiding the fact that she was an Elf, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t proud of being one. The others took this as their cue to start arguing. Even Gandalf and Elrond took part in the fight, which surprised her. She had taken a few steps away from the wall, so she was ready to intervene if necessary.
The only one who wasn’t participating was Frodo, he was still in his chair seemingly deep in thought. Mira also stayed out of the argument, and kept an eye on everyone in the room.
All of a sudden Frodo’s eyes focused again and he said, “I will take it!”
Nobody except Gandalf and Mira had heard him. Gandalf closed his eyes in defeat, clearly not happy with the Hobbit’s suggestion.
“I will take the Ring to Mordor,” Frodo repeated, finally getting everyone’s attention. His expression changed once he noticed everyone staring at him, almost looking shy. “Though I do not know the way.”
Gandalf kneeled in front of him, placing his hand on his shoulder.
“I will help you bear this burden, Frodo Baggins, as long as it is yours to bear.”
Frodo looked very grateful. He should be, Mira thought, it was a very dangerous task and he should accept all the help he could get. She did think it was very brave of him to volunteer. Stupid too. But brave nonetheless.
In the next few minutes, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Boromir had offered their help as well. Mira couldn’t help but notice Legolas’ smirk when he looked at her. Was he challenging her?
“Oi! Mister Frodo is not going anywhere without me!” Another Hobbit was coming out of the bushes, rushing towards the group.
Elrond looked sternly at him, but Mira could see a hint of a smile.
“No indeed, it is hardly possible to separate you even when he is summoned to a secret council and you are not.”
Mira crossed her arms again, and leaned back against the wall behind her. The group standing before Elrond was a sight to behold. Wizards, Men, Elves, Dwarves and Hobbits, every race was represented. Who would have thought this to be possible?
“Seven companions-”, Elrond started but was interrupted by yet another pair of Hobbits who came running from behind the pillars in the back.
“Wait! We are coming too!” They rushed to Frodo’s side. Mira smiled, she was certain these Hobbits would give Gandalf a hard, but interesting time during their quest.
“You’d have to send us home tied up in a sack to stop us!” one of them said proudly, crossing his arms.
The blond Hobbit wanted to say something smart too, and added, “Anyway, you need people of intelligence on this sort of mission, quest… thing.”
“Well, that rules you out, Pip,” his friend was quick to answer. Mira snorted.
Elrond opened his arms. “Nine companions-”
“Lord Elrond, if you please,” Gandalf interrupted him. Mira half expected Elrond to drop his arms at his side and just give up speaking altogether, but his expression didn’t even falter. Impressive.
“I do believe there is someone else who would be wise to join us,” Gandalf spoke, looking directly at Mira.
Mira’s eyes widened. No, he wouldn’t, would he? She even looked behind her, forgetting she was leaning against a wall, to check if there was a chance he didn’t mean her.
“Mira, my dear. Don’t keep us waiting,” he said warmly.
She froze, frantically trying to think of an excuse, any excuse not to join them.
“A woman?” Boromir laughed. “You can’t be serious! Does she even know how to fight?”
That comment made something stir within her. Wasn’t it enough that Legolas had been acting like he did towards her, and now another man had to doubt her skills?
In less than a split second she had drawn her two knives from her boots and threw them towards Boromir, effectively pinning his cape to the railing of the balcony behind him, without even scratching Legolas and the Hobbits, who were all standing in very close proximity. It did not only show her skills with a knife, but her strength as well since the railing was made out of stone.
“I can assure you, Boromir, that Mira knows exactly how to defend herself. Best not to get on her bad side,” Gandalf chuckled. Mira stepped towards Boromir and pulled her knives out of the railing, keeping her eyes fixed on Legolas’ the whole time, as if to say “Did you see that?”.
Elrond cleared his throat, opening his arms for the third time. Before he started, he looked at Gandalf, who nodded at him.
“Ten companions… so be it! You shall be known as the Fellowship of the Ring!”

Desire - Arwen x Reader
I had no idea what to write for so long until I finally got a good idea. I really hope you enjoy this!
Warnings: none
0o0o0
It was very dark out, and you could see the stars shine with the moon up above. There was a fire crackling nearby, and yet you still weren't warm. You felt cold and sad. Because you are far away from someone who means the world to you.
At the moment, all you craved was a warm and loving touch from Arwen, who you loved more than you loved anyone in the entire world. She lives all the way in Imladris, and you are somewhere distant. It is so painful to be so far from her. So, so painful.
Instead of being sad for longer, you decided to simply rest for the night. You thought of a memory before you went to sleep, and you saw your lover in it. She was dressed in a gorgeous gown, and she stared at you, the moon lighting up her skin, and the gentle wind in her hair.
"Would you care to dance with me?" Arwen asked, her soft voice giving you a calm feeling in your mind. "There might not be any music playing, but that will not stop us from dancing smoothly."
You smiled and nodded. A dance with Arwen is something that you most certainly want. "We don't need music to have a splendid time, melamin."
So, Arwen gently held your hands and began to dance. She had such grace that you heavily admired. Many have mistaken her for Lúthien, who also happened to be able to dance gracefully. Sometimes, you feared that you would embarrass yourself because you weren't as good at dancing as she is.
But then you remembered: she doesn't care if you are a mess. Arwen will always love you for who you are, even if you can't dance. You know this because she's told you so many times. And you trust her.
"What are your thoughts of the stars?" Arwen asked suddenly. "Aren't they beautiful? Sometimes I wish I could grab one and put it in a little jar to admire. But then I remember that I have a beautiful star with me."
After she spoke, you looked at her necklace, the Evenstar. It was gorgeous, and you liked it. "You're talking about your necklace, right?" you said.
Arwen shook her head. "It's you, of course." she told you. "You guide me to hope, joy, and love. And you are so beautiful to me. I don't care if you, or anyone tells me to think otherwise."
Blushing, you responded, "Thank you. I think that you are absolutely stunning. I feel so lucky to have you as my love. It feels like I beat the odds that are around one in 7 trillion." You chuckled, and pressed your forehead against Arwen's.
For the rest of the night, you and Arwen slowly danced with each other, under the night sky. You felt relaxed and at peace. Perhaps you two should do this more often. Dancing under the lights of the sky made you feel happy. And being with Arwen made the night better.
You then shook awake from the memory and felt gloomy. Being far from her made you miss the old times where you would love each other under the sun and moon.
A tear slid down your face. Tonight made you realize how long it really was. It has been over a year. It felt so short and so long. And every day that you lived through while away felt the same. At this point, you had forgotten exactly why you left.
After your wave of sadness, you fell asleep and had a dream. The dream was lovely and sweet, similar to the memory that you thought of tonight.
Your lover was in it, and she sat on a comfortable chair with her arms out, so she can hold you in her arms. So, you went into her arms and pressed your lips against her cheek.
"Melamin, I have missed you." Arwen whispered.
"I have missed you as well." you replied. "Being far away from you has shattered my heart into pieces. Arwen, I love you, and whenever we are in each other's arms, I feel safe, I feel hope."
Arwen smiled and held you closer. "It's because we love each other. We were meant for each other. I just feel it, and very strongly." she told you. "Believe me when I tell you this, my star, I am going to love you forever."
After she finished her sentence, you woke up from the dream, now having the strong urge to leave where you were to run to the love of your life. It seemed to be the best thing to do, as there is no point in being so far away anymore.
So, you ran outside and saddled your horse. Then, you gathered your belongings and quickly sped off to the home where you truly belong. If only you had a way to tell Arwen that you were on your way to see her again. But maybe it will be a lot sweeter if you surprised her.
<Arwen's POV>
Arwen laid on one of her couches, feeling a bit sad. She was waiting for you to return to her. But it has been a year and yet you still haven't come back. Her hope was starting to fade. What if you were never coming back?
This year felt like the longest year that Arwen has gone through. It felt like it had been an eternity. Which is quite unusual, because as a Peredhel, half-elven, a year feels like absolutely nothing.
Slowly, Arwen thought of the times when she was with you. Where she laughed with you. Those days were when she was her happiest, and she longed to live those days again. Tears came from her eyes as she thought of you.
As she cried silently, Arwen's father, Lord Elrond opened the door to the room she laid in to check on her. He had noticed the tears on his daughter's face. Elrond sat near Arwen with a concerned look on his face.
"Why do you weep?" Elrond asked. "What concerns you at this moment?"
"Well, ada... I miss someone who I really care about. I haven't seen them in ages." Arwen answered. "I wish I could see them again." Elrond knew exactly who she was talking about. It was clearly you.
He nodded. "I understand. Trust me, they will come back. I assure you. They miss you dearly as well, I'm sure of it."
"Thank you ada..."
"There is no need to thank me."
The lord of Imladris comforted his daughter for a bit longer and then left. Arwen felt a lot better after that, but she was still not healed from her sadness.
<Your POV, a few days later>
After days and days of riding, you felt weary. But you had finally reached Imladris. At last you can see Arwen again.
You put your horse somewhere where it was safe and ran to the home where Arwen usually is at. As soon as you reached it, you knocked on the door with a cheesy smile on your face. She is going to be so happy to see you.
Arwen answered the door, and when she saw it was you, she pulled you in closer as if to kiss you.
"May I?" she asked.
"Of course." you answered.
The two of you then engaged in a soft kiss. It was so lovely and sweet. You felt nothing but pure joy. That is because you were so happy to finally see your lover in a place that isn't a memory or a dream.
After a bit, you and Arwen separated, giggling like little girls. Both of you were giggly because you two were very excited to see each other in person again.
"My star, it has been many days since I have been able to hold you in my loving arms." Arwen said. "I have longed for you every single day that you were away, so I am filled with happiness at this moment."
"Same goes for me." you replied. The two of you did an elvish embrace. Then, you two walked inside the home, holding hands. Today was definitely a very good day.

Kili x Modern!reader
Tumblr media
Summary:Imagine Kili being sent to find you ,to only to see you dressing by a small river, spotting your belly button piercing. And him liking your earrings so much that he asks you to pierce his ears.
over 2280 words
You we apart of Thorin's company since you fell upon fron the sky ,whacking your head on a tree, landing face first infront of the company who rode ponies. You had used your arms to stop you whacking your face in the mud. You had groaned, standing up brushing the mud from your bottom."I have been falling for 30 minutes!" you had growled not noticing the bunch of dwarves,a hobbit and a wizard had been eyeing you. "d-did she just fall out of the sky?" the hatted dwarf had spoke ,in which in time you learned to know his name as Bofur.
The dwarves sat still on their ponies in spoke, until the youngest Durin prince spoke "did it hurt when you fell from the heavens of malah?" he spoke flirting while you as the older dark haired dwarf turned around and shot him a look, which he simply ignored. "I feel some stairs and ended up here not down from heaven..." the words slipped quietly from your lips ,the wizard had looked at you thinking before he spoke "it seems that this maiden is not from middle earth  ,Am I correct?" you wanted to know who the fuck he knew that."middle earth, what no,its just earth." he hummed at you. Soon after that you were apart of the company,to much off Thorins disagreement you were in.
Which led you to now you were in Rivendell already;Thorin didnt like that very much. You were quite happy with about ,Elrond had given you a room with a bath, you hadnt had a proper clean in a long while. Plus a cute elf named Lindir, had accompanyed you to your room, offering you his arm. You had happily taken it blushing, the dwarves werent impressed by this ,Kilis face scrunched up in jealousy.
It wasnt a shock to Fili that his brother had grown to have a crush on you,a strange girl from another world. He knew better to keep it to himself ,and only tease Kili about it quietly. Thorin was only just beginning to like you,Fili didnt want you being left on the side of the road if his uncle found out about his youngest nephews feelings for you.
You had thanked Lindir greatly for helping you to your room,he had smiled at you "you are very welcome lady y/n,Elrond has told me about you and wishes me to inform you that if you would like you can stay here in Rivendell." you didnt know what to say ,you loved it in Rivendell and Lindir was indeed bodacious, but you grown to like a certain prince. Not that you could do anything about it,he was royalty ,you were a mere human ,not that kili acted like a prince more immature than anything.
"I really couldnt, they would feel betrayed,"you spoke quietly.looking at your dirty shoes. "though its not only reason is it?" his voice was like silk in noise, golden smooth, his head high as you look up at him ,shaking your head no. "Im sure he returns your love." you almost choked ,as he left how could he known, damn. You turned into your room almost turning into sonic running to the bath. Soon scrubbing yourself with the rich soaps and oils, conditioning your hair.
After you had wrapped yourself in one towel;another in your hair. Slowly dressing yourself in your short underwear, not boxers but they were were shorts and underwear. And your bra from your world ,about to put on the mint green dress Elrond had sent to your room, well was until the door knocked. "who is it?" (james franco pineapple express, yeah you sound like that ) "Bluh it's me" he stated ,je was still annoyed about Lindir, but he didnt hold it to you ,it wasnt his choice who you liked. You hadnt realised that you were fully dressed ,your wet hair now down ,water making your skin shine against the light.  As you walked towards the door, opening it to reveal Kili he hadnt yet bathed clearly.
His eyes quickly scanned your body, blushing as he say you in your underclothes, you looked at him confused to his facial expresion. "Im sorry , I disturbed you,its just dinner is ready," You had looked down to see what he gestured about ,you had blushed in embarrassment."oh god, yeah I'll be right there." you tried to play it off ,but his eyes still kept glancing ,he nodded turning to leave, but a jem catches his eye.
He turns back to you loooking down at your bellybutton gasping "Is that a jem in your bellybutton?"he beyond shocked he had never seen something like it before,he didnt understand why you hadnt shown it off,he thought it was beautiful. "oh..um its my belly button piercing?" he had looked even more confused ,looking down to see how it worked. You sighed pulling him in by his arm, making him almost fall over, sitting him on the side of the bed,you laying flat next to him. So your stomach looked flatter than when it did when you sat,not that you should be ashammed ,it was just so he could see. He had looked at you as you unscrewed the ball pulling out the bar. "see theres a hole, damn thats what she said." his hand went near before he pulled it away, you pulled it back assuring it was fine.
He had grabbed the bar eyeing it ,before popping back into its rightful placing securing the ball ontop. " do men in your world have that too?" he had questioned as you stood up pulling the dress on before sitting next to Kili on the bed. "no not many ,its mostly because they get made fun of by other men that claim its a gay thing to do aka ,men that like men  do it ,but it isnt anyone can do it,more women have it done. some people are just scared of the pain of having it done ,but inreality it doesnt hurt at all, just the same as my first ear ones," in the end you had pointed to your earrings that lay on the lobe.
kill had watched interest,he really thought you were the most beautiful thing you had ever seen. "i like it very much y?n it suits you very well." you had smiled blushing as he smirked at your reaction."thank you kili." you looked the floor not knowing what to say after that."do you think one day you will help me go get my ears done like yours are on that bit?" he spoke shyly pointing to your ear lobe. "I mean if you want.. I could now." you response now looking at kili whos face lights up like the moon in the night sky, nods eagerly, you run to your bag grabbing your spare unused hoops and clean needle and a slightly wet cloth, rushing back to him.
You jump on the bed ,bouncing slightly almost stabbing yourse;f with the needle, you kneel facing his left ear. "just the one ear?" at the moment you had one stud in your first hole and in the otherside a lego indiana jones figure dangling. Like who didnt play at least one lego game on the wii as a child, maybe you still do cough me. "what do you think?" he had questioned holding the needle and earring as you used the cloth to clean his lobe gently,he tried to stay still under your grip."I think the one for now ,so you can sleep on the other side, without aggravating it while it heals." you spoke quietly, standing up to put the cloth down on the beside table, pulling the dress up before sitting back down now comfortble on your knees thats what she said.
"alright then, just the one please." he looked at you smiling nervously, you smiled back at him excitedly. You lined the needle up to the appropriate position. "you ready?" you asked him."ye-Ow" you had cut him off stabbing the needle through, and placing in the hoop. "that did not hurt, youve been stabbed by a bloody sword, and made less of a fuss. did that go over your head?" you grabbed the cloth once again ,shoving his hand away from the ear as he rubbed ,now cleaning the piercing.
"Nothing goes over my head my reflexes are too fast, I would catch it." you snorted at his response pulling him up from the bed, discarding the cloth, leading him to the mirror standing behind him as he looked at the earring with a big grin."Ilove it!" he practially shouted turning around engulfing you in arms twirling you around, your face flashes red as does his when he puts you down embarrassed. "i-im sorry," he spoke looking at the floor you had grabbed your hand "dont be ,lets go the company will be waiting." you spoke pulling the blushing dwarf out the door with you.
You had let go of his hand once you had reached the others, sitting down beside bofur, kili beside you. They had stared at you brielfly."you look very nice ,lass." bofur had told you smiling next you ,you had blushed quietly thanking him. "Yes,,Y/n you look truly look more beautiful than when you were covered in mud,if that was even possible." fili smirked at you then briefly at his brother ,he wanted him to step up stop being so scared of you a shy guy, like you would go blurting out that you didnt like him,but you did. "t-thank you." you werent used to the compliments ,nor many people interacting with you.
"kili, what is that in your ear??" Thorin had interrupted the dwarves commenting on you ,his voice stern, his face almost a frown, you looked at kili nervously you didnt want to get in trouble from thorin.  "SO ,I basically accidently saw y/n had an earring thingy in her bellybutton-" "A what? lass show us." bofur had cut him off now everyone was starring at you, waiting ,you stood up. Only for kili to pull on your telling you not to do what you were about to do ,sending you a pleading look. You had shook your head ,assuring him it was fine ,pulling the dress up above your belly button.
You had just revealed to the whole company a f/c jem that was your bellybutton jewerly, also your bare thighs and underwear. That elf Lindir had smirked at you, causing kili to almost explode,as he saw it the dwarves were in shock as you sat down, they still said nothing. "why would you keep such beauty hidden?" Dwalin the least person you wouldve expected spoke up,you didnt think he thought anything was beautiful expect maybe I dont know his mother. "..uh b-because I cant wonder around with you guys in half a shirt ,I would definitely get stabbed easier." you spoke yet again quietly ,making bilbo laugh at your tone. Kili smiled before breaking the silence ,"so yeah anyways I made her pierce my ear,how do I look? more majestic than uncle?" he had mocked shaking his hair slowly ,like a hair product advert, making you giggle.
"So you two are courting?" Thorin asked eyeing down his sisters youngest son,you both sat there not knowing what to say ,until you did. "w-what do you mean?" you had questioned the dwarven king. "he means Kili saw you practially naked ,and then you gave him a body modification, and then supplied him with the jewerly, all pretty intimate it seems." Bofur piped up,taking a drag from his pipe. You blushed ,looking at the salad infront of you ,picking up a piece of cucumber chewing it avoid the scene, "y/n ,may I speak with you ?"you had turned to  kili nodding grabbing another piece of cucumber as he took your hand helping you up,leading you to a hall with the sword that chopped saurons fingers off.
He stood infront of you his eyes filled with panic ,and nerves ,as he literally lunged foward cupping your cheeks pressing his lips to yours, before pulling away embarrassed."y/n,im sorry, but they are right,I want to court you." he paced around ,until you spoke "dont be sorry" he stopped turning to look at you shocked, "i want to court you" thats all it took for him to pull you into a passionate kiss, before pulling away when you had heard someone clearing their throat.
"finally,I having been trying to force this for weeks." fili poopped out smirking, and soon after bilbo "and me"
"how??" kili and questioned, holding you in an embrace. "well we would accidently trip you into each other or get you both on nightwatch together ,or-" "okay we get it thank you very much "
"god damnit dildo gaggins and the jensen ackles ,john travolta love child."
a/n lets pretend i didnt pierce my mid ear with a safety pin at 14 or give myself an umbrella stick and poke at 14 because of tom holland dancing to umbrella. dont do it ,dont risk your life doing something stuipid like i did. yeah thats what this is based off.

I LOVED THIS REQUEST UGH I would also love to write more Aragorn stuff bc he's hella cool so lemme know if you are interested, otherwise enjoy :)
The Trollshaws had always been a dangerous place, filled with Stone-trolls who came down from the north looking for people to snack on. Luckily, most of them stayed within the confines of the woods, only eating those dumb enough to trespass on their territory.
However, for the past month or so, the Trolls had been venturing out of the woods, terrorizing the many villagers and halflings who lived on the East-West Road. The situation had escalated to the point where several townsfolk got together and asked the Rangers of the North to intervene.
In (Y/n)’s mind, their plea for help was indicative of the severity of the situation; under normal circumstances, most people were too afraid of the Rangers to even mention them in conversation, let alone willingly talk to them.
You’d been sent out from Rivendell with Aragorn to diffuse the situation by whatever means you saw fit. Though you did not want the confrontation to escalate to violence, you knew it was nearly impossible to bargain with a Troll.
The two of you had ended up fighting a cohort of twenty or so Trolls, killing a few and chasing the rest back into the Trollshaws. You’d returned to the town you’d chased them out of to help dispose of the corpses and offer suggestions on how to deter the Trolls in the future (“Building some fences would not hurt,” you’d said sarcastically, grinning as Aragorn stifled a laugh).
The sun was already beginning to sink beneath the horizon by the time you and Aragorn had begun your trek back to Rivendell. You’d both agreed to travel for an hour or so before setting up camp and getting some much needed sleep; you’d hopefully return to Lord Elrond’s domain sometime tomorrow afternoon.
The ride was almost completely silent, save for the sounds of your horses’ hooves hitting the dirt road and the crickets chirping in the woods around you. You were both extremely tired, and when Aragorn noticed a small patch of moss nestled between a cluster of trees, you’d gladly agreed to stop.
Aragorn was beginning to light a fire in the middle of the small grove, and you were making sure the horses’ reins were tightly secured to a fallen branch. You tossed them both some carrots from a sack you’d brought along with you, then turned back to where Aragorn was piling wood onto a steady orange flame. You grinned, relishing in the warm feeling the fire provided.
“Thank you, Aragorn,” you murmured, sitting down across from him and holding your hands up to the flames. He hummed in reply. It was early fall, and though the cooler air allowed you to fight without producing copious amounts of sweat, it was now too chilly at night for your liking. Aragorn looked up and noticed you shivering slightly.
“Would you like a blanket, (Y/n)?” he asked, gesturing to where your bags sat behind him. You shook your head and Aragorn chuckled, standing up to grab one anyways.
“Aragon, that’s not necessary,” you whined as he rummaged through your bag.
“If you catch a cold, the Elves back in Rivendell will tease you relentlessly for the rest of the week,” he replied as he walked over to you, blanket in hand. “I’m saving you from that rather unlikable fate.”
You laughed, grabbing the blanket and draping it over yourself.
“Thank you for sparing me from certain Elven humiliation, then,” you said, noticing the corners of Aragorn’s mouth tilting upwards into a small smile.
You’d never understood why Aragorn, or Strider as he was more commonly known, had a reputation for being serious and unfriendly. You’d known him since you were a teenager; he’d been your mentor and close companion as you trained to become a Ranger. You were used to seeing him smile and laugh, though it seemed the majority of the common folk thought he was incapable of doing so.
“Would you like some bread?” Aragorn asked, carrying his own bag closer to the fire. You squinted at him in the dim lighting.
“If it’s Lembas bread, I don’t want it,” you replied bluntly. Aragorn chuckled, knowing far too well your hatred for Elven Way bread.
“Luckily, this is sourdough,” he said, grinning as your eyes lit up. “It’s probably stale at this point, but-”
“Throw me a chunk of that,” you interrupted, gesturing to the loaf of bread he had procured from his pack. He ripped off a sizable piece and threw it over the fire, laughing as you caught it in your mouth.
“Elrond would most definitely not approve of that behavior,” he remarked, ripping off a piece of bread for himself and tossing it in his mouth. You rolled your eyes and groaned.
“The other day, he felt the need to lecture me on my dining etiquette,” you said, grimacing at the memory. “Apparently, not knowing the difference between the different sized forks is absolutely disgraceful.”
“Ah yes, the classic salad versus dining fork conversation,” Aragorn grinned. “I myself have received that same lecture on several occasions.” You laughed.
“I’ve always find it funny how when I visit Lothlórien, the Elves only ask about my duties as a Ranger, but in Rivendell, they only comment on my lack of proper manners,” you noted, watching Aragorn simultaneously laugh and choke on his mouthful of bread. He glared at you as you chuckled at him.
"You must never repeat this,” he said seriously, “but the Elves of Rivendell have a reputation for being the most judgemental and fussy in Middle Earth.”
You laughed loudly, nodding in agreement as you popped the last bit of bread in your mouth. It was not very filling, but over the years you’d learned that some food was always much better than none at all.
“Speaking of Lothlórien, how are the Elves there doing?” Aragorn asked, referencing your visit there a few weeks ago. You’d just returned from the other side of the Misty Mountains when Elrond had sent you and Aragorn out to deal with the Troll problem.
“They’re doing well, Lady Galadriel and Lord Celeborn seem to be in good spirits,” you said, a little too softly for Aragorn’s liking. His brows furrowed in concern.
“How about Haldir?” he asked, noticing you shift uncomfortably.
For the last decade or so, you and Haldir had been in an unofficial relationship. The first time you accompanied Elrond to Lothlórien, you’d managed to capture the blonde Elf’s attention. Since then, you spent most of your frequent trips there with him, writing letters to each other between visits.
You had always thought you were unworthy of his affections. He was so wise and thoughtful, his many centuries of life having influenced his placid demeanor. He was also kind, happy to spend much of his time ensuring the safety of his fellow Elves. Meanwhile, you were a hot-tempered Ranger who was known in the West for being a harbinger of danger.
“Haldir is, uh, well he’s good,” you replied, purposefully avoiding Aragorn’s gaze.
What you weren’t telling him was that you’d ended your relationship with Haldir during your last visit. Of course you still cared for him, very deeply as a matter of fact, but that was the exact reason you had decided to take a step back.
“(Y/n)?” Aragorn asked softly. You nodded, still not looking up from the fire flickering in front of you.
“(Y/n), look at me.”
You bit your lip and shook your head, not wanting him to see the tears threatening to fall down your face.
Silence from Aragorn. You focused on the crackling of the fire, the way the soft orange light danced across the ground. It was a little mesmerizing, and honestly, you were more than happy to be entranced by the lambent flames; it was a welcome distraction from the sadness that had begun to permeate your consciousness.
You snapped out of your daze as soon as you heard Aragorn shuffling from across the fire. You finally looked up, watching as he stood and walked around the fire, sitting down next to you.
“I do not know what troubles your mind,” he murmured, gaze locked on the fire in front of him, “but I know the importance of companionship in sadness, and I’ll gladly offer you comfort if you want it.”
He turned his head, eyes filled with compassion and concern. You felt the tears you’d been trying so hard to contain begin to fall down your face, and you let out a very shaky sob.
Aragorn leaned forward immediately, wrapping you in a strong embrace. You didn’t know how long you spent weeping into his shoulder, him whispering soothing words in your ear as he rubbed your back.
After what seemed like hours, your sobs reduced to small sniffles. You pulled back, exhaling loudly and burying your face in your hands.
“I’m sorry,” you said meekly.
“Don’t be,” Aragorn replied, hands moving from your shoulders to your forearms.
“I told him we couldn't be together anymore,” you whispered, focusing on his thumbs rubbing circles on your skin.
“Ah, then it’s my fault you’re crying,” Aragorn said regretfully. “I’m sorry for bringing it up, (Y/n), I truly am.”
“No, no it’s not your fault,” you reassured him. “It’s better this way anyways. I’d rather cry with someone I trust than break down in front of the rest of the Rangers or the Elves.”
“I don’t know if our Elven acquaintances know how to manage the more intense human emotions,” Aragorn chuckled. You grinned, wiping the remaining tears from your cheeks with the palms of your hands.
“I just, I couldn't do it anymore,” you said, struggling to find the right words. “I felt guilty every time we were together.”
“Why?” Aragorn asked genuinely.
“Because he’s an Elf,” you groaned, flopping backwards dramatically. Aragorn grinned as you stretched out on the mossy ground.
“Like, he’s basically immortal, but everyone knows Elves can die if they experience really deep loss or sadness,” you said, “and then Haldir told me he loved me, and I just couldn’t help but feel ashamed.”
You sat up and looked at him, an unreadable expression on his face.
“I don’t want to be the reason he dies,” you said softly. “I mean, I’m definitely mortal. Hopefully I’ll live a long life and die when I’m old, but with this gig, who knows.” You gestured to your sword, lying behind you on the ground.
“And then he’s just so, so important in Lothlórien, especially now, with Sauron gaining power and all that,” you said softly. “Staying together could result in me unwillingly killing one of their strongest defenders. I couldn’t do that to him, to them.”
“I understand,” Aragorn said softly. “I understand you completely.”
You looked up at him, confusion evident on your face. He sighed, looking at the fire next to him.
“I ended things with Arwen for the same reason,” he clarified, grabbing a stray twig and throwing it haphazardly at the flames. You gasped, inching closer to him and setting your hand on his thigh.
“Aragorn, I’m so sorry,” you said softly, easily detecting the pain in his eyes.
“You don’t have to be, I’m fine,” he said, turning to you and giving you a very unconvincing smile. “But I do understand where you’re coming from, it’s hard to let an Elf love you knowing that you could easily cause their demise.”
You nodded, leaning over to rest your head in his lap.
“I’m still sorry, I know how much you care for her,” you murmured. Aragorn rested his hand on your head, mindlessly running his fingers through your knotted hair.
“I think we’ll both recover,” he replied. “Besides, it’s not like she was the only being I loved. There are plenty of people in my life I care for.”
You looked up, blushing when you saw he was looking down at you adoringly.
“Does Elrond know you’ve stopped pursuing his daughter?” you asked in an attempt to change the subject.
“Probably,” he replied. “We haven’t talked about it yet. I don’t know whether he’ll be pleased or angry at me.”
“Pleased? Why would he be pleased?”
“He was always upset with me for courting Arwen,” he sighed.
“That’s stupid,” you huffed, causing Aragorn to chuckle. “You’re a great person, Aragorn, Elrond’s standards for Arwen’s suitors are intentionally set impossibly high, that way he’ll never have to part with her.”
“Thank you,” Aragorn said with a small smile.
“No, thank you,” you said.
“Why?”
“For letting me talk about Haldir, I guess,” you clarified. “There aren’t many people who understand what it’s like courting an Elf, and how unworthy they make you feel.”
“Hey,” Aragorn said softly, tilting your head in his lap so you met his gaze . “You are not unworthy of Haldir’s affections, or anyone’s affections for that matter. You’re one of the kindest and bravest people I know, do not be so hard on yourself.”
“Thank you,” you murmured, face flushing at his compliment. “You are also worthy of Arwen’s love, though I know why you feel as if you aren't.”
Aragon nodded thoughtfully, eyes darting to his bag lying on the ground.
“We should get ready to sleep,” he said. You nodded and yawned, suddenly remembering how exhausted you were.
You sat up, wrapping your blanket tighter around yourself as Aragorn grabbed his own worn quilt.
“Is there anything in your bag that you want?” he asked, chuckling as you shook your head and stretched out on the ground.
You smiled as you felt him lie down next to you, sleeping side by side as you’d done so many times before. You turned over so you were facing him and buried your face in the soft fabric of his tunic.
“Good night, Aragorn,” you mumbled, surrendering to your own drowsiness.
You had dozed off before you could feel Aragorn press his lips to your forehead and whisper a good night, draping his arm over your body before falling asleep himself.

would you write an elrond from lotr fic with platonic reader? maybe she's his daughter or just someone living in the House? and she's bored but he's working so won't indulge her wishes to spend time with her. so she does something, perhaps like stealing some of his papers, which forces him to chase after her and, very uncharacteristically, tickle her to get the papers back??? and all reader can say is that at least she got to spend time with him!!! xx love your fics so much
Thank you!
Elrond x platonic!reader
Words: 1795
•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•-•
Bored.
That's what you were. Letting out a sigh, your finger traced the edges of a book on your lap as you wondered how what was supposed to be a wonderful day had turned to a day of utter boredom for you. The excitement you had felt at breakfast was gone like yesterday.
You glanced at the elf seated at his desk, neck bent to look at the papers in front of him. You glared Elrond from under your eyebrows. Traitor!, you thought.
It had been a while since lord Elrond of Rivendell had spent time with you. You understood that he had a valley full of elves to run and as the head of the House, he had a lot of business to attend to. Of course, you understood. But understanding didn't change the fact that you missed him. You missed spending time with the elf who had been like a father to you ever since he had found you, a small elfling alone in the wood, almost eleven years ago. You missed the attention he had given you when you were younger. You craved for it.
So, when Elrond had told you at breakfast this morning that you'd spend the day with him, you had been over the moon with your excitement. The feeling had died when ‘spending the day’ turned out to be Elrond working and you left to your own devices. Sure, you were in the same room as him, but really, it wasn’t the same thing than to actually have the elf pay you attention other than tell you to “read a book or draw something” while he worked.
Raising up from the chair you had been slouched down for the past hour, you stretched your aching limbs and made your way to Elrond’s desk. Determined to get the Half-elven to at least talk you, you opened your mouth to ask, “Elrond,-”
“Whatever it is, it can wait a few more minutes, Y/N. Until I am finished with these”, Elrond cut you off, not even glancing up at you when he spoke the words.
What was probably a full minute, you couldn’t do anything but stare at him, mouth left slightly open as your mind tried to process the fact that Elrond had just interrupted you. While it wasn’t the first time - him or someone else often having to stop you from saying something that would, without doubt, get you in trouble - it was the first time since you could recall that he didn’t let you speak, working or not working.
You felt your blood rush to your ears as your irritation grew to anger. Narrowing your eyes, you crossed your arms over your chest and glared at the male. Who still didn’t look up at you. In fact, it was as if you weren’t there, standing a few feet away from him in seething anger, at all.
You watched as Elrond signed a paper and moved the signed piece to the pile of papers on his right, at the same time already reaching for a new paper from the pile on his left. You wished his pen would suddenly disappear so he could notice you too.
Then, suddenly, an idea struck to you.
A foolish idea, you had no problem admitting that, but taking your current irritation towards Elrond, you couldn’t find it in yourself to care. It would be worth it. You felt a smile tug at the corners of your mouth as a mischievous spark thrilled up your body.
Stepping to your side, you made quick work of snatching the pile of papers from Elrond’s left. He looked up at, eyebrows furrowed as if to ask you if you were being serious. You were. More serious than you had possibly ever been in your still relatively young life.
“Y/N”, Elrond said, making your name sound like a reprimand in itself. “What do you think you are doing? Give those papers back to me and continue reading your book.”
While speaking, the elf reached out his hand towards you for the papers but you took a step back and held them out of his reach. You shook your head. “I don’t want to read anymore.”
Exasperation coming off of him in waves, Elrond pinched the bridge of his nose for a second muttering something under his breath that you didn’t quite catch. Then he reached out his hand again. “Give them back. Now, Y/N”, he ordered.
Now, if the situation had been any else than now, you probably would have given up your fight against him when he used that tone of voice at you. However, you thought and willed yourself for the upcoming battle of words, today was not like the other times.
“No”, you said and took a step then another back when Elrond - in quite a menacing way for someone who usually had such a gentle aura on them - stood from his seat and narrowed his eyes at you.
“Y/N-”, Elrond began to warn you, but this time you interrupted him.
“I said no, Elrond”, you said, a smile bordering on cheeky lightening your face. Waving the pile of papers in your hand you continued, “if you want these, come and get them!” With that last word you spun on your heels and took off from Elrond’s study. His holler of “Y/N!” could be heard after you before he took after you.
You were laughing, enjoying the thrill of escape buzzing inside you as you flew through the corridors in the house, passing people who seemed to halt in shock when they saw who it was chasing after you. You could hardly blame them for usually it was either the twins or Arwen running after you for this or that.
After a while, you hadn’t stopped but neither had Elrond if the angry yells of your name from behind were anything to judge by. Trying to push yourself even into a faster pace, you thought that you needed to find a place to hide soon, or the elf would catch you.
Too late to hide, you found out not a second later as an arm suddenly sneaked around you, effectively stopping your momentum and making you stumble backwards. You shrieked and almost dropped the pile of papers still in your other hand. Your back collided with a solid chest and another arm made to take the papers from you while the other held you tightly against Elrond.
Struggling against his hold, you reached out your hand as much as you could, trying to keep the papers out of his reach. “Enough, Y/N, you had your fill of amusement on my behalf, little one”, Elrond’s voice scolded next to your ear.
“No, I - didn’t”, you stated, taking a breath between your words before moving your hand - and Elrond’s papers - out of his reach again.
“Very well”, Elrond said, his voice suddenly eerily calculating, making shivers go up your spine. “You should do well to remember that you asked for this, then.”
You frowned. Asked him for what? All you wanted was for him to spend some time with you. You got your answer as suddenly, fingers dug to your sides making you immediately try to squirm away as giggles bubbled up from deep inside you.
“No! Elr-HOO- ond! STHOOP!” You laughed and without even realising, your hold of the papers loosened making the sheets scatter on the floor. With both of your hands now free, you tried to pry away from the merciless fingers that now went up and down both your sides.
You laughed so much that you felt water in your eyes. At first, you didn’t even notice he had ended his torture, his hands now resting on your sides to steady you. “Have you learnt not to steal from me again, hm?”
“Maybe”, you said, grinning, “maybe not.”
“AAH! Noo, pleeease!” you begged as a new fit of giggles and laughter overcame you when Elrond began to tickle you again. This time, the elf had changed tactics as his hand went up and down your arms and sides all the way up to your neck and under your chin. You tried your very best to wriggle away but his hold on you kept.
“Whait! I’m sor-sorrhy!”
“Ah but are you?” questioned Elrond, a smirk rarely seen now playing at his lips as well. “Allow me to make absolutely sure of that declamation”, he said and before you knew what was happening, he had you lifted up in his arms while his fingers once again dug to your sides. You tried to swat his hands away, laughing and curling as small as you possibly could while in someone’s arms. “I am! I am sorry! So sorry!” You reassured him quickly.
Chuckling, Elrond stopped the giggling and leaned down to press a kiss on your hairline. “I know you are, little one, I know you are.”
Catching your breath, you leant your head against Elrond’s shoulder for a moment as he lowered you back on your feet.
“Out of curiosity”, Elrond began, gently pushing you at arm’s length to gain a better view of your face. “How did you imagine this would end, Y/N?”
You shrugged. “I didn’t think the end, actually. I just wanted…” you trailed off, suddenly thinking that you had been childish with your actions and the reason behind them.
“Wanted what?” Elrond prompted, his voice gentle once again.
You let out a breath. “I only wanted you to spend time with me, Elrond. Time for real, not just us sitting in the same room without even having proper conversations with each other.”
Elrond pulled you into a hug then. For someone who seemingly saw everything, he could still sometimes be utterly blind to the needs of those closest to him.
“I am sorry, Y/N, that you felt that way. From now on I shall try my best to spend time with you - properly this time, this I promise to you.”
This time it was you who broke the embrace. “It’s alright, I know that you cannot spend every waking moment with me, but a night or two in a week would come a long way.”
Elrond chuckled again, reaching out to smooth your hair behind your ear. “Then that is exactly what we shall do.”
You smiled. Your idea had definitely been worth it.
“Now, pick up those papers you scattered all over the floor - and be careful not to tear them.”
Your face fell as you looked down on the many papers on the floor by your feet. Some of them had slid quite a way further from the two of you. Okay, maybe it hadn’t been worth-. No.
It had been worth it.

Thranduil x Wife Reader: Lost in your Kiss.
Tumblr media
Requested by @anilynsworld
As the restless day came to an end you found yourself retiring for the night to your chambers, so much needed to be done but you were glad that at least for now all she needed was some rest. You opened the chamber doors to see that the lights in the room were already lit, you looked around not seeing anyone inside. As you looked around you had noticed a book open on the table nearby but other than that nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
“Perhaps one of the maidens came in here to clean up a bit.”
You picked up the book and placed it back on the shelf, your thoughts wandered off to the thought of your husband, Thranduil. He had left to meet with Lady Galadriel and Lord Elrond in Lothlorian to speak in secret council about the evil that was beyond the rivers toward the south. You would have gone with him but with Legolas gone with the Fellowship of the Ring, it was your duty to protect and run the kingdom in your husband's place.  You missed him so much and hoped that his return would come swiftly.
You walked around the room blowing out the candles as you walked toward the bed and took off your slippers making you sigh in bliss as you rubbed your feet, you leaned back onto the bed and sighed as you felt your body relax until you felt a small shift in the bed. You sat up and looked over your shoulder to see your husband laying down in bed. Before you could say anything you felt your entire body being pulled toward him as the silk sheets enveloped you with his arms around you.
“I didn’t even notice you had returned. You scared me for a moment.”
“Forgive me, I did not mean to.”
“Why didn’t they announce your return?”
“In truth, I was so exhausted from the journey there and back, I immediately came here to get some rest. I shouldn’t have though...I should have returned to you.”
You shook your head as you embraced him, thanking the Valar he returned to you safe and sound. You giggled lightly as you looked up at him to see his piercing eyes gaze back at you. You definitely deserved such attention after such a hard-working day. You felt him back against the headboard as he inhaled the scent you carried of lavender and pine on your skin as he brought a gentle hand to your hair combing through it gently to graze down your neck to wrap gently around your back. You felt a smile appear on your face as you brought a hand to his arm.
The sounds of the night began to echo throughout the realm as the two of you held each other close giving both of you a sense of security. You heard Thranduil sigh as he brought a hand to your chin and lift your gaze to his.
“I feel lost without you in my arms.”
You felt your heartbeat quicken as you felt his hand to cup your cheek, you smirked at him as you spoke.
“Shouldn’t it be, you lose yourself when I'm in your arms.”
You smiled as you saw him look away.
“Perhaps I should let you go then, a king cannot get lost.”
You started to giggle as he scrunched his face in annoyance, just a bit. You sat up to his level bringing your hands to his face gently bringing his gaze back to you. You blushed as brought a very light kiss to his forehead and then his lips. His face returned to its relaxed state as you brought your arms around his chest while looking up at him with a sweet innocent look.
“I’m only messing with you.”
Thranduil smiled to himself as he brought a hand to your cheek. He brought a loving kiss to your lips as the two of you sunk down into the bed holding each other close. The sheets moved effortlessly with both of you as the kiss deepened, you felt his lips leave yours as the weight of exhaustion suddenly overcame you as you felt his arms wrap around you. You yawned a little as you placed a hand on his chest, hearing and feeling his breath beneath you.
“Goodnight, my love.”
He closed his eyes as he brought you closer to him.
“Sleep well, my love.”

Starting at dawn every day, you, Legolas, and the troop of Elves searched repeatedly for the portal. You threw yourself off of the tree countless times. You laid in the spot for hours. At one point, the Elves had even used some kind of sheet made of leaves and their supernatural strength to fling you up like a trampoline to see if the portal was aboveground.
Nothing happened.
As the days wore on, you grew more and more bitter. Every move felt exhausting, and like there was no use: you couldn't get back to your family.
You couldn't live here. There seemed to be no point of your existence anymore.
Somewhere around sunset of the second day, Blue-Eyes noticed your sudden lack of enthusiasm. "May I ask what troubles you?"
You scoffed. "Why do you care? I'll be dead in about forty-eight hours anyway. What I feel doesn't matter."
"I beg to differ," Legolas took a seat beside you; you scooted a couple of inches away. "You are in our world now, so you will go to our gods for judgement when you die."
You frowned. You'd always been kinda an atheist. "The Valar?"
Legolas nodded. "Yes. The Valar. Your feelings before death will determine whether or not you'll be given a good place among them."
You rolled your eyes. "You're kidding, right? They'll judge me for being pissed off and upset 'cause I can't get back to my own world to see my family, then killed just for breathing on Lord Fabulous's precious trees? They can go fuck themselves."
His face was priceless. If you hadn't been so pissed, you might've laughed. "...Lord... Fabulous? And, while I have my doubts about your recent hand gesturing, I do know that what you just said is most likely vulgar. Have respect for the Valar."
You snorted. "First of all, fabulous means somebody who loves dressing in the best and most well-liked outfits of the time, while also being very uppity and acting like they're God's gift to humanity. Second of all, yeah, that is vulgar, and no I will not take it back. Third, how fucking dare you, sir, to tell me to respect some candy-ass bitches up in the sky who'll judge me for having feelings."
Legolas shook his head. "Alright, ass is a word we do have here, as is candy. I can get the gist of that meaning. I cannot force you to have respect for them, especially when they brought you here."
You glared at him. "Yeah, whatever. Just leave me alone."
Blue-Eyes sighed. "As you wish."
You turned away, scrunching up into yourself against the night chill.
On the edge of night...
All shall fade...
With a huff, you curled up where you were and tried to fall asleep.
**
A beautiful copper dragon sat before you on a mound of gold. "Do you think flattery will keep you alive?"
"N-no..." Said the silhouette of a very small person.
"No indeed," Confirmed the dragon. He began to prowl around. "You seem familiar with my name, but I don't remember smelling your kind before. Who are you, and where do you come from, if I may ask?"
The dream flipped.
You stood between two Elves in silver robes, one of which was Blue-Eyes, looking sullen. "Tell me," Said the other Elf, "Where is Gandalf? For I much desire to speak with him."
Legolas's crystal blue eyes glistened with tears, but he held them back. He'd never seemed like one to cry. "He was taken by both shadow and flame. A balrog of Morgoth."
The dream--no, vision-- changed again.
Before you was an old man in blue-gray robes with a long gray beard and pointed hat, smiling kindly up at what looked like a child. You couldn't turn your head to see. "A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins, nor is he ever early. He arrives precisely when he means to."
The visions flashed in your mind quickly now, too fast for you to discern much from them.
"Sauron's forces are massing in the east."
"This is no mere ranger! He is Aragorn, son of Arathorn, heir to the throne of Gondor. You owe him your allegiance."
"Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king."
"I ain't droppin' no eaves, Mister Frodo!"
"I choose a mortal life."
"The beacons are lit! Gondor calls for aid!"
"He is Thorin, son of Thrain, son of Thror, the true King under the Mountain."
"You have the gift of foresight. What did you see?"
"Arwen..."
"What did you see?"
"I saw death. Your death."
"But there is also life. You saw my son."
"You have my sword."
"And my bow."
"And my axe!"
"If this is what the council decides, then Gondor will see it is done."
"Things that were... Things that are... And things that have not yet come to pass."
"Did he offer you a bargain?"
"Yes. I refused."
"A bargain was our only hope..."
"Have you forgotten what happened to Dale?"
"I am fire... I am...Death."
~ominous as fuck time skip~
You woke with a start, the dragon's words still echoing in your head. You knew over half of those names, deep in your mind... Sauron, Morgoth, balrog, Thorin, Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf... You knew the voices, too. But you couldn't place any of them.
The Elves were already awake (With the sun as usual.), readying their breakfast of weeds.
You frowned. Why should you be concerned with why this place sounds familiar if you weren't going to be here much longer? You got up, and prepared to search for the portal-- you didn't want any breakfast, especially when it was nothing but dandelion fluff and sparkles.
"You are not breaking your fast?" Blue-Eyes asked you, and at first you thought he was using Elvish slang.
"You mean I'm not eating breakfast?"
"If that is how you say it in your world, yes."
You shrugged. "I'll be dead later anyway. What's the point?"
Legolas sighed. "To keep up your strength to find your way back. What if you arrive back on your world in the middle of the wilderness, like you did here? You will have no supplies, and I doubt you know much about foraging."
You huffed. "You know what? Screw off. I don't want anything to eat, and you can fucking deal with that."
He looked up in exasperation, probably praying to his Valar for you to stop being such a nuisance. "You use that word an awful lot."
"What word?"
"Fuck."
Then you almost busted out laughing, because a fancy pretty sparkly Elf, even if he was deadly, saying a modern cuss word was too funny.
He blinked. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
You snorted, crossing your arms. "Do you even know what the definition of that word is?"
"No." You gestured for him to come closer, then whispered the meaning into his ear. He sprang back wildly with wide eyes and a profoundly disgusted expression. "Dear Valar, I will never repeat a word you say again unless I am sure of what it means!" His eyes widened even further. "Wait... You just told the gods to perform impossible sexual acts on themselves! And the day before you told me to..." He stopped short, appalled.
"Yuh-huh. Just now gettin' that, goldie? For shame upon me." A thought struck you. "Wait, do Elves even have sex like humans? Do you even know what I'm talking about?"
He blushed a little. "Find the portal. Quickly." He awkwardly left, sparing you a quick glance like "wtf."
You grinned maliciously, then went back to your search.
By sundown, nothing was found. You stared down at the patch where you'd originally landed, wishing for all the world that you'd been born normal, with maybe a slight love for fantasy. Why? Why had you wished, for all of your life, that you'd been transported elsewhere? Now you were, but... You didn't have your family. Without them, you couldn't function right. You just couldn't imagine never seeing them again.
The Elves were already leaving, except for Blue-Eyes. He stood by your side for a minute, as if you were both staring at a grave. You might as well have been. "Bury me here, will you? Maybe my family will find my body. And kill me as non-messily as possible, please? Like, an arrow to the heart'll do."
Blue-Eyes stiffly patted your back. You went ramrod straight-- you'd always hated touch contact. "I will pray for you." He followed his comrades, who were already a good ways back to the river, spread out through the forest. You half considered running in the opposite direction, but you'd be dead before you even so much as got to the ridge where the first of the big dogs had attacked you.
You sighed, and forced yourself to move forward; you gasped as your ankle slipped into a rut, and you yanked it out, arms spread wide for balance. You gave the ground the dirtiest look you could muster, which quickly faded to stunned silence. You leaned down, and scraped more of the dried leaves away...
Your breath caught in your throat. "Blue-Eyes!"
Legolas was at your side in a moment. "Did you find it?"
"I don't know!" You stood and gestured to what you'd found. An inscription, in a language you couldn't read. "It was buried under the leaves."
"Can you read it?"
"Obviously not, dumbass. Is it Elvish?"
Blue-Eyes knelt, tilting his head slightly to read it. His hand grazed the writing. "It is a form of old Elvish, used in the time of Gondolin. This has been here for a very, very long time." He gave you a look. "Forgive me, I'd thought you'd written it at first." You thought about smacking him upside the head, but with everybody suddenly around you again and ready to attack, you thought better of it. Legolas turned back to the writing.
After an almost unspeakably long amount of time, you got impatient. "What's it say, dammit?!"
Legolas shook his head slowly. "I am sorry. Truly, I am. If we had seen this earlier..."
"What does it say, Legolas?!"
He stood, and looked you in the eyes, sympathetic. "'The way is shut. There is no going back. The way is shut, until next fiery moonlight.'"
Your face lit up. "R-really?! Then that means all we have to do is wait for a full moon, right?! That's usually what it is! Full moon at midnight for stuff like this, in all the books! Do you think Lord Fabulous could extend my sentence--"
"[Y/N]," It was the first time he'd used your name, and it made you freeze. "The night you arrived, the moon was full. But it was also a Firemoon. It means you cannot return to your world until the next Firemoon."
Your hopes slowly fell, but you were determined not to succumb to the panic that was quickly rising. "H-how much longer till the next one?"
Legolas put a hand on your shoulder, trying to get you to understand.
"Firemoons only happen once every thousand years, [Y/N]." The words were like being hit by a semi going full speed on the highway-- sudden, fatal, and unbelievable. "You cannot go home."
Everything suddenly seemed far away, like you were seeing this from someone else's perspective. Everything went quiet, at least to you. The world seemed to spin. You dropped to your knees, and you were vaguely aware of Blue-Eyes saying, "I am sorry..."
You didn't know what to do. I can't go home... I can't go home...
I can't go home.
Your breaths came in panicked, short bursts. Even if it killed you, you took off running. Maybe if you ran for long enough, you'd wake up from this nightmare. Then you could pretend you were in some fantasy world with your family this time. You expected to be shot in the back, but you heard Blue-Eyes shout an order in Elvish, and instead, about three or four individual Elves followed you. You don't know how long you ran; tears streamed from your cheeks. Your lungs burned. Your legs felt like Jello. You collapsed at one point, and screamed, though you couldn't hear it. You screamed until your throat was raw. You were vaguely aware of a few Elves nearby, but you ignored them.
All shall...
In all the chaos, it wasn't long before you blacked out.
...Fade...
~emo time skip~
When you woke up, it was midmorning. Birds chirped endlessly on, the happiest goddamned creatures in the world. A couple of Elves talked quietly amongst themselves in hushed voices and in Elvish. You were laying on your back, and somebody had covered you up in a blanket. The smell of something good-- not that anything was, at this point--filled the air. It smelled like cinnamon and walnuts, like Christmas.
With a sigh, you cracked your swollen eyes open. Legolas sat cross-legged beside you, checking his bowstring and polishing the wood. He smiled half-heartedly at you. "You are awake."
Obviously. You didn't say anything. You didn't want to talk. Or think. Legolas sighed, placing his bow across his lap. "We must head for the palace. My father will wonder what is keeping us."
Yeah, gotta kill me as quick as possible... Death is better than this, anyway.
Legolas gave the order, and the Elves started to pack up. You laid monotone and still for the length of it, until Blue-Eyes gave you the signal to get up. Then you walked slowly behind them, every step a chore. You'd barely reached the river, and you were exhausted. And still, that damned song was going through your head...
Home is behind...
The world ahead...
All shall fade...
You knew that your dream last night had been connected to this place, whatever it was. Did that mean this song was, too? You were half tempted to ask Blue-Eyes, but you decided you weren't worthy of talking to any of these fantastical fantasy beings, even if they were going to kill you in t-minus some hours.
The company suddenly halted. Blue-Eyes had a hand raised, and all the Elves's weapons had materialized in their hands. Blue-Eyes was quiet, listening...
An eerie howl cut through the trees, chilling you to your bones. Was that one of those big dogs that carried orcs? A horn followed the howl, and all the Elves strung their bows and readied their weapons. "Gundabad yrch!" Legolas proclaimed-- you were going to assume that yrch meant orcs. He went on to give a bunch of other orders, and the Elves took off running; if it were up to you, you'd've stopped running and let the dogs have you for dinner.
But apparently Legolas seen that, and grabbed your upper arm to drag you along beside him. Damn him... The rest of the Elves were suddenly ignoring Blue-Eyes's orders. Half of them went off into the trees in the direction of the horn and howl, and the other half formed a protective circle around him-- and you, coincidentally.
Blue-Eyes barked an order at them which they ignored, but all of you stopped short when you seen what awaited you on the far bank; the way back to the palace.
Six massive wargs, more wolflike than the ones from before, with orcs a hell of a lot uglier than the ones from before sitting atop their backs, with black bows and jagged, haphazard swords. In the direction the other Elves had gone, there was more howling. Shit. If you cared about your survival right now, you'd've been terrified. But you almost enjoyed the thought of death, if it hadn't been so gruesome.
Blue-Eyes scanned the bank. There were more orcs nearby, on foot, and several more wargs. One of the Elves moved faster than you could see, snatching a sleek gold horn on his hip and blowing hard before Legolas could stop him.
The Elf-- it was the one that'd found your hair dye repulsive the other day-- hardly got a note out before an arrow lodged itself in his throat. The note trailed off into a gurgle as blood sprayed from the wound. Droplets splattered onto you, and you recoiled; you'd never seen death. You'd been to a funeral once or twice, but never this. He fell backward, and the river swiftly carried his body away.
Legolas shouted an order, and the Elves readied themselves for battle. But there wouldn't be one just yet, despite the death of that Elf. The lead orc-- a nasty, pale gray orc with swollen eyes and a protruding mouth, tall and thick, his forehead covered in scars-- stepped off of his warg, which was bigger than the rest.
He came about halfway before stopping. "A truce?" One of the Elves asked-- Common was probably hard to speak for orcs, so they resorted to it to keep from being understood. It made sense.
Legolas didn't take his eyes off of the orc, but shook his head. "That is Bolg, spawn of Azog the Defiler. He would not make any truce with us, nor would any other orc. They are beyond reason, and think only of blood and death." Bolg... Azog... Now you really knew these names... But why?
"Albai," The orc snarled; his voice was deep. "Dorzog ajog lum trov!"
"Emme uva!" Legolas cried. "Sin nor yara ana Aran Thranduil!"
Thranduil... You knew that name. But the fact that they were conversing in orcish and Elvish was astounding. One must've came from the other, and you were just going to assume that it was the orcish that came from Elvish.
Bolg's already disgusting face scrunched up into a frown. "Vol lat diig!" The orc raised an arm; you recognized the movement as a signal to fire. The Elves scrambled around wildly yet gracefully to avoid the arrows, but you barely moved; an arrow got you right in the bare part of your upper arm, and another grazed your ear. Still, you didn't move, praying for one to hit you in the head or heart or something. You hardly felt the pain.
As the battle took place around you, you zoned out. You caught glimpses of a bloodied Elven corpse, or a dismembered orc, and of course, blood was everywhere. The river ran red. You just wished it would end...
A grunt nearby brought you out of your trance.
It was Blue-Eyes, being pinned down by a warg's paw on his chest, another on his left arm. He flipped the dagger in his good hand and stabbed it violently into the warg's shoulder. The beast howled in agony, but only pushed down harder; Legolas's eyes widened as he realized the knife was stuck. The warg snarled, and opened its jaws, savoring the taste of fear before it would bite down...
None of this is his fault. He shouldn't have to die.
The warg had dismissed you as unthreatening. One of the Elves lay dead on the rocks nearby, a longblade in her hand as she stared with unseeing eyes to the sky, mouth agape. You snatched the weapon from her already-stiffening grasp. It was heavy. But it was sharp as hell.
In two leaps, you'd reached the warg, which looked to you in confusion, then recognition, with a growl. You brought the sword down, slicing deep into the creature's face. It wailed in an echo of a voice, and released Legolas, pawing at the wound; Legolas whipped his bow out like an OP follower and shot that dog point blank.
You let go of the hilt, stunned. Blue-Eyes inclined his head. "You have my deepest thanks, [Y/N.]. You saved my life."
You just nodded in shock.
Legolas raced back into the battle, leaving you to your own. Another horn blew, this one like the one the Elf that'd been shot first had blown. A barrage of arrows flew from the trees, felling every orc and warg in seconds. Some grazed you, but none touched any of the surviving Elves.
A she-Elf in a dark green tunic, carrying a longbow, loped out of the woods with her comrades. She was beautiful, with red hair so long it went past her waist. "Legolas!" She cried, and he responded in Elvish; again, you couldn't understand what they were saying, and it was really starting to piss you off.
"[Y/N]," Blue-Eyes called to you, and you belatedly looked up. He and the ginger were approaching you sollemnly. "This is Tauriel, Captain of the Guard. She will take you back to the palace and explain what happened here." Ah... Death at last.
"Tauriel," Legolas turned to her; something shone in his eyes. You recognized his spark, but not hers, but the thought quickly left your head when you registered what he was saying. "Tell my father that they saved my life."
"What?" Tauriel looked impressed, and bowed her head to you. "You have my thanks, mellon."
"Perhaps he will spare them from execution in repayment," Legolas pointed out, and Tauriel made an 'o' face.
She bowed respectfully. "I will make sure of it, my prince."
Wut.
Oh, right. Blue-Eye's dad was Lord Fabulous, king of these Elves. Of course that'd make him a prince. Prince Legolas Gr... Of the Wood... Rea... The thought was like an echo. You couldn't catch it.
Legolas nodded to you, and Tauriel lead you away from the carnage of the river battlefield.
~time skip~
"Saving my son does not grant you my utmost favor," Lord Fabulous glared down at you like you were a nasty piece of gum he'd stepped on in flip-flops. "But it does warrant some form of reward. I am sure you wish for your execution to be cancelled?"
On autopilot, you nodded. You didn't want to die, but you didn't want to live. You just wished you'd never have existed in the first place, that way none of this would've happened.
Lord Fabulous Elvenking snorted, like he was hoping you'd just ask for cake before you were beheaded. "Of course. Take them to their cell."
Tauriel wasn't as rough as Legolas, or even any of the guards had been, but she still held you firmly. "Would you like a change of clothes? I could also arrange for a washbasin to be brought to you."
You just nodded. Couldn't you just dissipate? But, if it'd taken nineteen years for this wish to come true, then it'd take another nineteen years for you to disappear. You were an Elf now, so that should pass in one painful blink of an eye...
"I am sorry that you could not find the portal," Tauriel told you as she locked the door to your cell. "I will have the guards bring you something to eat at once."
You laid down on your cot, curled up, and closed your eyes. You heard the guard come and deliver the food, then leave quietly, but you still didn't move. You didn't move when Tauriel brought you clothes and a bucket of water and rags, you didn't move when Blue-Eyes came to thank you again, you didn't move when a rat came and took your cheese. You just laid there, staring and feeling dead on the inside.
You refused to eat or drink for the next few days. You slept, mostly. When you were awake, you were crying silently. You dreamed of your family. You grieved. Your muscles cramped from sleeping in one position for days. Your stomach felt like it was going to eat you alive. Your mouth was as dry as sandpaper. A hollow ache had settled in the core of your torso, between your heart and lungs; a pulsing orb of sadness, regret, and the wish to disappear. A couple of times, you passed out from hunger while laying down. But you were an Elf, so it'd be hard for you to starve.
You kept count of the days by the cycle of guards exchanging meals. Every tray held different things for different mealtimes: fruits and bread for breakfast, cheese and bread for lunch, and a thick vegetable soup for dinner. About nine days went by before anyone came to check on you, and by that point, you were hysterical on the inside. On the outside, you were catatonic.
And you reeked, because you hadn't had a shower in like, awhile.
After two battles.
So you weren't at your best.
"My guards tell me you refuse to sustain yourself." It was Blue-Eyes. "Do you realize how much of an offense that is to his majesty? He allows you to live, and yet you seek death out deliberately."
You said nothing. Hell, your eyes didn't even move. With a sigh, Blue-Eyes moved to your bedside. "Ah, I see you have also refused to bathe..." You didn't crack a smile. Even on the inside, you hardly felt a twinge of amusement. You felt... Empty.
Legolas surprised you by placing a hand on your cheek. "You miss them, don't you?"
Tears welled in your eyes. Dammit stop making me have feels. Ah, but feels you had, my friend, and you started bawling into your pillow. Legolas shushed you, and petted your head and told you it would be alright. You don't know how long you cried, but at one point, Legolas and Tauriel switched places, even though she clearly didn't want to and sucked at emotional talking.
When it was Legolas's turn again, you'd finally gotten to the nearly-finished state of hyperactive wheezing. "How long were you holding that in, I wonder?" You still didn't answer. He gave you a sympathetic smile. "You saved my life. Let me help you save yours. Get up. You will eat, even if I must force it down your throat, and once you're full, you'll bathe. After, I will take you for a tour of Mirkwood. You'll be living here, now... I suppose it's only right you learn how to navigate your homeland."
Finally, it clicked.
"Wh...What did you say...?" Your voice was hoarse from underuse and crying, but it still worked.
Legolas gave you a concerned look, like that much crying might've damaged your hearing. "I said I will take you for a tour of Mirkwood--"
You sat up; too fast, but you sat up. Your sugar dropped. But you had to know. "Mirkwood... Where is that?"
Legolas frowned. "East of the Misty Mountains, west of Erebor, home to the dwarves and the King Under the Mountain. North of Ithilien, Gondor, and northeast to Lothlorien, Ithilien, and Rohan."
Oh fuck.
"Wh-what is this place called? In general? Collectively? Like, the whole continent?"
Legolas seemed to finally realize that you were crazy. "Middle-Earth."
Oh hell.
"Holy shit..."
"What is it?"
You couldn't remember it clearly. Hell, you could hardly remember it at all. But what you did remember finally made sense. Tolkien's fantasy masterpiece that no one can surpass... The Hobbit... Lord of The Rings... The Fellowship... Smaug, Thorin, Bilbo... Aragorn, Arwen... Thranduil, Legolas, Tauriel... Oh gods, Legolas! "I-I... The books... Oh, gods..."
"Mellon...?"
You promptly fell face-first off the bed before any half-assed explanation could be given to poor Golden Boy.
"[Y/N]?!"
...
Home is behind...
The world ahead...
And there are many paths to tread...
Through shadow, to the edge of night...
Until the stars are all alight...
Mist and shadow...
Cloud and shade...
All shall fade...
All shall...
...Fade...

“I-I need you,”
“Don´t bail on me and leave me to do the math, don´t do that,”
Warning - none
Tumblr media
Word count 722
Looking up from the paper in front of you, you raised your hands to your face and hid yourself while letting out a small sigh, when Lord Elrond told you, you were being sent to Mirkwood you were overjoyed but now, now you wished you had stayed in Rivendell.
Lowing your hands from your face you placed them on the table and slowly pushed your chair out getting to your feet, walking around the desk you made your way towards the balcony, leaning on the rail you felt the breeze on your skin and you inhaled the scent of the pine trees that hid your new home, you had seen the view many times since you had moved here almost 6 months ago, but every time you looked out at it, you saw something new, and you were currently watching some birds flying through the sky bring a soft smile to your face.
….
You were one of the best students Lord Elrond ever had, even for a human he was impressed, your skills with a blade, your wit in debates, and the skill to control your temper, he knew from that moment he would send you to Mirkwood, they needed someone who could keep their cool with Thranduil, every other student he had sent was returned within 2 months with a fiery letter from Thranduil saying exactly why they had failed, and had no place in his kingdom, making Elrond roll his eyes, but you, you would be the perfect fit and if you failed he would stop sending students to fill the roles that Mirkwood needed.
….
Standing at the door Thranduil lifted his hand and knocked hard on the door, hearing a faint “just a moment” from behind it then the sound of rushing feet, stepping back from the door Thranduil waited for it to be opened.
Opening the door you looked up at Thranduil and bowed your head “King Thranduil” you spoke as you stepped back and held your door opened a little wider “Please do come in” you added and watched as he walked past you and towards the desk where you were currently working.
Scanning the desk Thranduil looked over your work, until he turned his eyes to you coming to a halt just a few steps away from him, “your work seems to have improved, you definitely have mastered the elven language for a human” he said picking up a few of the papers and looking over them.
“Thank you my lord” you said as you watched him place the papers back down and pick up the trade deal between the elves and humans of Laketown you were in charge of, watching as his eyes roamed over the page and a scowl started to appear on his face.
“What is this?” Thranduil asked staring at you with his icy glare.
“The… The trade deal between Mirkwood and Laketown” you answered twisting your hands together as your nervous habit, before swallowing hard and adding “my lord” in a whisper.
Standing up straight Thranduil shook his head and started to walk past you “I will need to give this to someone else who has more experience in this area” he hissed.
“Wait… I-I need you” you blurted out as you went after him and watched as Thranduil spin on the spot making you stop just before you collided with him, taking a deep breath you started to speak again “don´t bail on me and leave me to do the math, don´t do that” turning you walked over to the chair and slumped down on it feeling the tears starting to pool behind your eyes.
Looking at you Thranduil let out a small sigh and walked over kneeling in front of you “What is going on (Y/n)?” He asked with a softness in his voice making you look into the pale blue eyes for the first time in the 6 months you had been here.
“I can outmatch anyone with a blade, I am the smartest human in the room, and I can control my emotions, but when it comes to maths, I do need a little help” you finally admitted more to yourself than to Thranduil.
“Well, why don’t we start at the beginning” Thranduil said as he wiped away the tears that had stained your cheeks.

The Curious Case of Gil-galad
Okay, so this came about from a chat in the Silm discord server. Don’t ask how it started--I don’t recall. But I offered to write something for it, and this is...what came out. Don’t judge, I don’t often write humor...
The name of Ereinion Gil-galad was not, in fact, the name of a single Elf. Rather, it was a title, passed down from High King to High King throughout the Second Age. Unfortunately--for the High Kings, at least, though not for the people who were none the wiser--the High Kingship was a cursed position. Simply put: the High Kings kept dying.
It was an idea thought of by the first Ereinion Gil-galad’s cousin and closest advisor, Elrond Peredhel and Círdan Shipwright, as they stood over his body. He had fallen down the stairs while making an improperly timed joke, and had broken his neck.
“What do we do?” Elrond Peredhel asked Círdan with wide eyes. The poor youth was barely a century old, and had only known his cousin for some 55 years. Even so, he had loved the older Elf dearly, and had sworn his love and loyalty to his King. For him to so abruptly--and ridiculously--die was both shocking and upsetting, and Elrond was both upset and in shock.
“Now you become King,” said Círdan. “You are next in line, after all.”
“No,” said Elrond. “No, I do not want to be King.”
“Why not?”
“Because it is a cursed throne,” said Elrond Peredhel with a low voice and burning eyes. “And I, for one, do not want to die.”
Círdan suspected Elrond was just attempting to avoid the Kingship.
“I see,” was all Círdan said by way of reply, however, and he nodded. “Very well. We will find someone else to take the throne--for now, at least, until we can...decurse the throne and you can take it properly.”
Elrond shook his head, looking terrified, but said nothing.
And so it was that they went down into the city that night, found a drunk Elf in one of the taverns, and convinced him that being King of a cursed throne would be #worth it.
That Gil-galad died ten years later from a chandelier falling on his head. Once more Elrond and Círdan were the only one present for the freak accident--and so once again they hid the body, stole down into the city, and found another drunk Elf willing to take a cursed throne.
With the third freak death--the newest Elf, a young woman with the requisite dark hair and silver eyes, who had been approximately the appropriate size and shoulder-width--Círdan began to believe Elrond might have actually been prophesying with his statement that the throne was cursed.
By the thirteenth, Círdan was certain of it.
By the time of the Last Alliance, they were on their 23rd High King Ereinion Gil-galad. Elrond and Círdan had stopped trying to remember their names long ago, and between the two of them simply referred to them by number.
“22 is definitely more humorous than the rest.”
“Oh, but 18 had a wicked wit.”
“But can wit truly compare to humor?”
“It depends entirely on what one defines as “academic”.”
“Oh ho, so now we are bringing academia into it?”
The Rings were formed and fashioned, Rivendell was founded, and Númenor was sunk. Each Gil-galad did their varying degrees of best--Elrond’s and Círdan’s method of finding the drunkest and most willing Elf to take the cursed throne was not, as it turned out, the best prerequisite for finding a good King--and though a few of them were deplorable, at least one was a political genius.
Thankfully it was 23 who was the political genius, otherwise the Last Alliance never would have been formed and fashioned--would never have been conceived of, let alone fruitful.
And then came the final battle on the Plains of Gorgoroth, where Elrond was nearly slain by Sauron, only to be rescued by Gil-galad and Elendil. Elendil was, as in every other iteration of this story, thrown into a cliff wall, where he fell and died--and his son rushed to his side and crouched down by him, holding him in his last moments, leaving Gil-galad #23 to face Sauron by his lonesome.
“So,” said Sauron. “Sup, Gil-galad.”
“Uh, hey,” said Gil-galad #23. “I think we’re mortal enemies.”
“Yeah,” said Sauron. “Totally. For sure. So I guess I kill you now?”
“Yeah,” said Gil-galad #23. “Or I kill you. Either way.”
Sauron laughed. “As if you could possibly kill me--I, who am immortal, and have never fallen down a staircase and broken my neck.”
“Nope,” said Gil-galad #23, who had heard the story of OG Gil-galad. “That is a thing that has never happened in the history of ever.”
So they fought, trading barbs back and forth as they did so.
“I am going to kill you just as I killed...uh, Fing--Finrod.”
“And I am going to kick your ass like...uh...fuck, has anyone ever kicked your ass?”
“Of course not!” replied Sauron. “For I am Sauron, original lieutenant of Morgoth, not some poor replica or copy.”
Gil-galad #23, who did not know that Sauron was, in fact, Sauron #42, thought that he Knew About Gil-galad, and so stumbled in anger and fear. Would Sauron tell all? Would he give away the secret? Would it even matter??
And Sauron #42 ran Gil-galad #23 through.
“No!” cried Elrond, who had genuinely almost liked Gil-galad #23, but who was more upset at having to find another Gil-galad.
“No!” cried Círdan, for exactly the same reason.
“No!” cried Isildur, taking up his father’s broken sword and ending Sauron #42.
“Well,” said Elrond much, much later, “I guess we have to find a new Gil-galad.”
“Or...not,” said Círdan. “Sauron is defeated. The Elves are diminishing and retreating into isolation. Do we need a High King?”
“Hah!” cried Elrond. “My ruse worked! No need for a High King means I get out of it too!”
“Wait,” said Círdan, “so the throne wasn’t cursed?”
“I don’t know,” said Elrond. “I just said what I did to keep from being King.”
