What’s your opinion on Ro? I feel like she’s problematic but means well. And what do you think of her relationship with Keefe? I feel like she tries her best to be protective but can be really rude sometimes.
I hope you’re having a good week and that life is going well!
-Mossy but I’m my main acc 👾
Mossy! My week/life is going alright, started my summer classes and one of my textbooks is so dense it took me an hour to read 18 pages. But it's chill, and I hope you're also doing good!
My personal opinion on Ro are unsavory, which is mainly due to the repetitive nature of her character that at this point I've grown kind of tired of. When she was first introduced I liked her, she was a loud female character who exhibited strength and didn't adhere to typical femininity and had knives, so very cool. She has dyed hair and loves violence, great! She poked and pried at various parts of the story no one else was willing to (the love triangle) and didn't have the same filter as everyone else.
(I'm putting the rest under a cut for space)
But I think she's become too much of that. Her first teasing remarks about the love triangle were fun, but now it's like...girl we have been here and done that how many more times can you say the exact same thing. How many times can you call Sophie oblivious and be obnoxious to Keefe about not confessing his feelings. How many times can you make a face at the sparkles. I don't have a problem with those aspects of her character it's the frequency!! It feels like she's being snooty and judgemental every single scene she's in! Like we can't interact with her without her making a comment about the love triangle like please. Ro. For the love of god give it a rest for once we get it.
It's also gotten--to me, at least--uncomfortable to read about at this point. Keefe and Sophie and Fitz clearly don't enjoy it or benefit from it at all, yet she continues to make her comments. It was an interesting dynamic in the beginning to finally have someone make those kinds of comments, but it's not changing anything anymore. Keefe doesn't like it when she makes those comments or interferes and pushes her way into things, so I think that's part of her relationship to Keefe I don't enjoy. Because he can't do anything about his discomfort. Ro is his bodyguard and he's not allowed to leave her, and so they're always together and if Ro doesn't want to cooperate? Keefe can't do anything.
I think protective but rude is a good way to describe her. She's an ogre warrior and she takes her reputation seriously, wants to win the throne. Performing badly as a bodyguard reflects poorly on her, so she is protective! She fights and keeps her charge safe to the best of her abilities (Keefe is a tricky charge), but she's not there to be nice. She's got no problem insulting and hurting other people, and sometimes her actions hurt people like Keefe. She's got the physical protection thing down. Everything else? Not quite. And she doesn't see a reason to change that
It's possible that with the extended time she's spent in the Lost Cities that she'll change a little. We saw from Keefe's pov that he felt actual concern and care for him coming from her, that she hugged him and was worried about him. We also saw her call herself Auntie Ro when talking to Sophie about her match stuff in Legacy.
I think she does care, in her own way. She was really antagonizing Keefe in Unlocked, but that was to try and get him to talk to prove that he could do it without controlling everyone. So as much as the rest of her actions make me uncomfortable, there is that and it's something that could be expanded upon in the final books.
For now though, I'd say that I don't think very highly of her given how uncomfortable she makes some of the main characters and how repetitive the interactions with her have been. This is something that can change in the future, but that's where I'm at right now. I want to like her more, but I think I'm going to see more of her first

Hello Libra, I just like to say that I really love your work and I love how you depict all these characters so well!
I was wondering if you can do some jealousy headcanons for the Lackadaisy characters?
Danke!! GN reader, most reference a relationship or romantic interest.
♣️Rocky - His jealousy is very obvious to anyone who bothers to pay attention. It is not less obvious or pathetic when you're in a relationship, either. Rocky will find any excuse to interrupt you and the other person, scare them off, redirect your attention, and so forth. It can become very distracting and annoying, so it's best to address the problem right away. The jealousy 100% stems from Rocky's fears of abandonment - not that he'd recognize that - so reassuring him and soothing that insecurity helps a lot. Sometimes his jealous reactions are just that, knee-jerk reactions that he doesn't fully think through. It's safe to say the insecurity is less of an issue the longer you both are together, especially if you're already a very affirming and affectionate partner.
♣️Freckle - The big-eyed boy has a quiet, passive jealousy that he may not notice right away. It stems from inadequacy, and he believes himself to be inadequate in many things, especially when it comes to relationships. He doesn't exactly have a lot of experience, you know? It'll be a constant needling build-up, though his uh, night time shooty activities helps get a lot of that aggression out. He's very open to talking things over, but you'd have to bring it up first. Freckle would rather stew in Catholic-level feelings of guilt before ever talking about it; but talks help a lot! Reassuring him goes a long way, and making sure he brings up his negative feelings before they get so bad.
♣️Ivy - While she's quite easygoing and not prone to jealous thoughts that often, when they do pop up, it manifests as an intense "my best-friend-who-I-tooootally-have-platonic-feelings-for-is-dating-someone-new-and-I-suddenly-hate-that-person". She pouts, she plots, she makes her displeasure known to you - she just gets an off feeling from that person. No, it's not mature, and she can get pretty catty about it - but she's also only 18~19. If you're femme then Ivy can easily dismiss her feelings as just missing her best friend - it'll take extra time to realize they aren't entirely platonic. If you both were together and already had conversations about this, that burning jealousy melts away to a little spark she feels now and again. She'll ignore it, knowing it's just a dumb thing that'll pass as soon as you're back at her side.
♣Mitzi - As much as she acts like she's above such things, Mitzi is the same as anyone else in developing jealous feelings. She recognizes them at once and just wants to bury them down, it's so embarrassing. It's even worse if she gets antsy about someone being overly friendly or flirty with you. What is she, a schoolgirl? The anger at herself might irk Mitzi even more than the person whose being so forward with you. She can get quite passive aggressive toward them, coating her barbs with honey - and that might get directed toward you if she feels you're also being too friendly with them. None of this lasts long - Mitzi would rather have a drink and kiss and make up. She's too old too ladylike for this silly nonsense.
♣Viktor - Just because he recognizes what he's feeling doesn't mean the old Slovak processes them in a healthy way (like, at all). To strangers, he's his usual frightening self, but to those who know him they can tell there's a distinct animosity coming off him. He's not a possessive type, but Viktor already feels miserable about himself and that he doesn't deserve you in the slightest - the idea of someone better coming along is not an impossibility. Now, he can't simply grab them by the neck and throw them out a window just for talking .. .and that'd upset you. So Viktor settles for being in a terrible mood until you soothe him. Attempting to talk him through it just makes him feel worse about himself.
♣Zib - Oh, he recognizes it quick, and Zib haaaates feeling this way. It's so pathetic, so annoying. He should be the bigger person, just suck it up and walk away, but ... nah. If he's been drinking, he's absolutely going to make snide comments and act inappropriate. You drag his drunk ass aside and he does feel a little (kinda) bad about he acted ... some days he's better about it. It's so cliche, but he knows what he's like as a partner. He doesn't offer much, and even if you've made it clear you still care about him, the insecurities and negative feelings can dig into him... especially after booze. He perks right up after some cuddling.
♣Atlas - He doesn't show it outwardly at all. Atlas keeps his impassive expression, outsiders can't tell the difference, but you and his two closest triggermen might pick up the iciness in his eyes. Eventually, that frost would melt into his voice. He would consider any jealous feelings beneath him, if he deigned to call them that. Instead, he'd translate it as disrespect: Whoever is being too personal with you and inspiring these feelings is disrespecting him. It's ... probably best that they move on.
🏵Serafine - Jealousy isn't something that comes easily to her. She's too free-spirited, and she doesn't like the idea of holding another down. She'd hate for you to restrict her, so why should she do the same to you? That said, there are a few times when it comes up. There are always those who want to flirt with you and get too close for her liking, but ... it's also fun to watch. She lets the little pangs of jealousy build up until you return to her side, and Serafine will tease you for doing it on purpose. There's a reason she likes to leave lipstick stains and bites on you. Note, if you try to incite jealousy in her on purpose, she'll see it as a game - but if you're seriously trying to provoke something, it's just irksome. Isn't that a bit childish?
🏵Nico - Like his sister, Nico isn't one for jealousy. He's inspired plenty of it and isn't a fan, and like Serafine, he won't tie you down if you don't do the same to him. Truthfully, he has much less patience for it. Some may think he doesn't feel jealous at all; but Nico is actually just good at dealing with it in a healthy way. He waits until you're back at his side and showers extra attention on you - it's pretty funny when the person who was flirting starts glaring at you. As long as you're not intentionally trying to get a rise out of him, he's chill.
🏵Mordecai - He's awful about it, made worse that he refuses to acknowledge it. It really doesn't kick in until you both have this sort-of-kind-of understanding that's a mess to navigate to begin with, never mind if jealousy comes into play. Mordecai both feels it strongly and denies it with as much strength. Some stranger trying to be smooth is irksome, but not the end of the world. But someone who has a sustained relationship with you? Who gets to touch you and be close to you on the regular? Nope. He's argumentative and prickly anytime they come up. By the time he figures out what his feelings are about, he'd rather chew off his own tail than ever bring it up.
🏵Wes - His flavor of jealousy tends to come from either inadequacy or possessiveness. If the person flattering you and getting too close is some idiot he works alongside, you better believe his hackles raise and he puts them in their place. If it's someone he can't immediately beat down, or if they seem ... well, better than him in some way, the jealousy quietly simmers underneath. Your initial attempts to talk it out are bust, considering the time period and his own machismo ... but he can come around once you reassure him. And wait, didn't he want this to be a casual thing? What's he getting so worked up about, anyway?
🏔Wick - When they build up, he quickly recognizes the jealous feelings in himself. It's something Wick is familiar with, and dislikes - as if it's a personal failing, and not a thing everyone goes through. Depending on how long it sticks around, he can become a little withdrawn and even unsure. It just feels so childish, but he's still glad to get some reassurances. He insists it's not necessary, but Wick still gives you that dopey, painfully affectionate smile you're used to. He's also someone who handles it maturely, and they seem to go as quickly as they come. They may linger if there's already some obstacle between you two - maybe he hasn't brought up his feelings, you're masc so he can't be as open with his affection, and so on - but he's still recognizing these negative feelings and willing to work through them.

Hypocrisy in the TMNT Fandom
I may come back to this topic at a later date, but I feel like I need to address the hypocrisy in the TMNT fandom when it comes to how 12 Donnie is treated for his crush on April, compared to other characters such as Bayverse Mikey and Mutant Mayhem Leo, or I might explode. Do I condone everything that 12 Donnie does in the name of his crush on April? No. Do I sometimes find the cringiness of his actions unbearable (keeping in mind that he is my favourite character in 12)? Absolutely. But is there context behind his actions that often gets ignored? Yes. Do the fandom vilify or make fun of behaviour from him that they let slide in other characters? 100% yes.
People love to bash 12 Donnie for his actions, without even considering the reasons behind them (poor choices from the show writers aside). April is the first human his age that Donnie really sees and gets to interact with. He's a deeply insecure character, who feels out of place even amongst his family and, as people have pointed out before me, April represents a wider level of acceptance to Donnie. If a pretty human girl can love him, maybe there is hope for him gaining wider acceptance from humanity. I do think he has genuine feelings for her, but I also believe that part of his obsessiveness is a desire to be more human, or at least be accepted by humans, and he subconsciously views gaining the love of a human to be a part of this. 12 Donnie (like most Donatellos), is keenly aware that he will never get what he wants, or deserves.
He is a genius, and that will never be acknowledged by the world. He will never get everything a human genius would get. He doesn't get go to school, or go shopping for new resources, or make friends who share his interests. He risks his life saving the world over and over again, only to be seen as a villain for the way he looks.
That's part of why he sees 12 Casey as such a threat, Casey is human and doesn't need the same level of acceptance that Donatello does. He already has everything that Donnie wants (he can go to school, make other friends etc), but yet he still wants to be with April. The first human to show Donnie any acceptance. One of the only people to even tentatively seem interested in Donnie's science. If April chooses Casey over Donnie, then that truly does mean that Donnie, as a mutant, and a nerdy outcast mutant to boot, can never find love or acceptance, (again, this would be Donnie's perspective, and it is not April's duty to validate Donnie's self worth by getting in a relationship with him - that being said, the mixed signals she sent definitely didn't help matters).
Also, his stalking is creepy, but this is a kid who grew up with no social interaction besides his brothers, watching shows that provably had dubious ideas of romance. All of his ideas of romance are influenced by media, which isn't exactly a healthy way to gain an understanding of how to express those feelings. And when he knows the exact distance to her apartment, I always thought that he was just insanely good at estimating distances? He's shown to be able to make advanced calculations around distances and things in seconds on the show, so this never really seemed that bad to me, even if the show itself deemed it creepy?
Moreover, for the most part, he does genuinely follow April when he believes she is in danger, or when she is distancing herself from them (again, absolutely not a healthy thought process, but he misses her and wants her safe, and thinks is the best way to handle it). Is it still wrong? Yes. But should Donnie as a character be completely dragged for this for eternity? Not really. Also, can we please move past reducing Donnie's character to nothing more than his failures at flirting?
There is also the fact that April definitely did flirt back with him on numerous occasions. Whether or not this was done consciously, or to manipulate him, or whatever, is a rant for another day, but 12 Donnie definitely does have reasons to believe that April could want a relationship with him. She kisses him, on the mouth, right after he had told her that he was going to stop with his behaviour.
People also genuinely forgive 12 Leo flirting with his sister more than they do Donnie calling April his sweet chinchilla (and yes, Leo and Karai are still flirty even after the reveal that they are siblings, though it is thankfully toned down later on, and though I've seen people jumping through hoops trying to deny it). And Leo's flirting with Karai (even before the reveal), is equally as cringy as Donnie's. He's the poster boy for the 'I can fix them' mentality, even when the person he was trying to fix was actively trying to destroy everyone he cared about. 12 Leo also puts his brothers in danger due to his obsession with Karai, hurting them both physically and mentally, but a lot of people sweep this under the rug and only focus on times that 12 Donnie puts the others in danger due to his crush on April, or see this as a positive thing, showing how Leo never gives up on the people he cares about.
Moving on, 12 Donnie can be possessive of April (again, not great behaviour, and not something I particularly enjoy or condone), but 12 Mikey is the same way about Renet, and no one mentions it? Donnie hugs her (or says he could hug her, I can't quite remember the exact context), and Mikey gets all pissy about it? He's known Renet for barely any length of time, and they have no relationship at this point, but he gets annoyed at Donnie having a friendly interaction with her, as if it hasnt been well established that Donnie is only interested in April? Why is this more acceptable than when Donnie gets annoyed at Casey (a confirmed love rival), shows off about being close to April?
Additionally, why are Bayverse Mikey and Mayhem Leo hardly ever given the same treatment as 12 Donnie? I see countless crossovers where 12 Donnie is given endless shit for his bad flirting, especially as it's towards someone who the other counterparts see as a sister figure, with hardly any of them ignoring how unfair it is to criticise 12 Dee for seeing April differently to the others when their circumstances are different, or bringing up anyone else's behaviour.
Bayverse Mikey is just as bad! In fact, some of the things that he says are far worse than anything 12 Donnie has said, and it just gets brushed over? Even in crossover fics where 12 Dee gets slaughtered for his crush, no one brings up the downright crude things Bay Mikey says?
He constantly calls her a babe (I think 90s Mikey also makes similar comments), and even says 'she's so hot I can feel my shell tightening' which is hella gross tbh. Sure, 'sweet chinchilla' is weird, but it's far less demeaning than babe? And Mikey keeps this attitude up throughout both films? Why is this treated as being more acceptable than 12 Donnie's behaviour? This is even worse as Bay April is clearly an adult compared to the teenage turtles, and is clearly depicted as an older sister figure. At least in 12 there is only a year age gap, and neither April nor her father had anything to do with them when they were babies.
Hell, a few chaarcters (I think 03 Mikey and either 90s Raph or Mikey) make a joke about getting to 'keep her' when they bring an unconscious April back to the lair, and no one bats an eye?? It's played off as a joke, but even so, it's still freaky, and I've never seen anyone mention it before. They don't even get admonished for it!
Also, Mayhem Leo is absolutely just as much of a cringefail flirt as 12 Don, but everyone is acting like he comes across as so much better?! We've only had one movie with him so far, but his behaviour so far isn't all that different to 12 Don's?
They basically act the same way upon their first meeting. The rooftop scene when he first sees her is almost exactly the same as the scene in 12. And the comment about her beautiful, perfect mouth? If 12 Donnie said that he'd be slaughtered, but because it was Mayhem Leo, it's considered cute? When 12 Donnie gets super excited about getting April's number even though they already have it on the fridge it's embarrassing, but when Mayhem Leo tries to get Mayhem Donnie's phone to swipe her number it's endearing? Both ramble and get nervous around her, but people think this is sweet from Mayhem Leo but annoying from 12 Don.
Plus, Mayhem Leo has far more experience with humans than 12 Donnie. He has been going outside of the lair for a while, he has definitely seen other girls before. In 12, Donnie had never left the lair before the night he saw April, she's genuinely the first girl he's ever seen in person.
This point may also be a little unfair as we only have the Mayhem movie at the moment, compared to entire seasons of the 12 TV show, but it's also irritating me a bit how many people are acting like Mayhem Leo has far more of a chance with April than 12 Donnie did, purely because she agreed to go to prom with him, ignoring her line about how it was just as friends, and the many instances in 12 where April reciprocated Donnie's flirtation (again, April kissed him on the lips in the cartoon. It is canon that she did so).
Why are there so many double standards around the turtles having crushes? Either address all of their behaviour, or stop throwing 12 Donnie's flirting in our faces. It's exhausting seeing people openly bashing 12 Donnie, ignoring all of his great characteristics due to his crush, and then turning around and glorifying 12 Leo, Bay Mikey, or Mayhem Leo, or just ignoring their behaviour. It's grating to see almost every chat fic (even ones I thoroughly enjoy!!), have a seemingly obligatory bash 12 Donnie's crush and flirting chapter, yet hardly ever address the way any of the others behave.

Formal vs Informal Address in German Temeraire Translations: a report
So I have picked up my German copies of the Temeraire books for the first time in over a decade for reasons unrelated to this post but I immediately got distracted by the matter of formal address in German and how translators have to make a very specific and important choice when translating from English. German (like French and many other languages) has two forms of direct address in the 2nd person, an informal one for friends, family, children etc., and a formal address for strangers, teachers, colleagues, professional contacts. It is famously a Whole Thing when you switch from formal to informal with somebody: usually the person with a 'higher' position in the relationship has to explicitly offer it and it can be a big deal! A common instance might be when you've worked at a new job for a while and your colleagues tell you to use informal to indicate they consider you Part Of The Team, or your girlfriend's parents do it when you've been dating a while and they signal that you're part of the family now. In translation, this can be a really tricky choice! For instance, I have not watched Elementary in German but I would say Sherlock and Joan would absolutely start out addressing each other formally (Sherlock calls her "Watson" most of the time), but by the end of the show there is no way they would not have switched. Obviously English-language media does not have an explicit conversation about this and the closest analogue would be switching to first names when they've only ever used last names before, but you can't rely on that and translators end up having to make choices about characterisation and relationships based on like, vibes. With all that said!
In the Temeraire series, there's a lot of formal address around, such as among officers; I knew Laurence would be addressing his cadets formally because even though they are like, 9 years old, they are his officers and deserve to be treated with that respect. I only have books 1-5 in German but I'd be willing to bet that this doesn't change even Emily's been with him for nigh on ten years, and the same goes for Temeraire. Also Laurence uses formal address with both his parents, in case you were wondering.
What I was not sure about was a) how other people address dragons and how dragons address each other and b) the finer interpersonal relationships among aviators. Jane addresses Iskierka formally but Temeraire informally; the dragons of the formation are formal with each other but Temeraire, Lily, and Maximus are not, and Temeraire quite happily scolds Iskierka like a misbehaving child. I would LOVE to find a bit of, say, Laurence talking to Lily or Berkley to Temeraire!
Among the aviators, Laurence and Jane are informal with each other once they've slept together, but I just saw that Laurence is also informal with Harcourt but not with Chenery, which is interesting but I suppose makes sense if you go by the dragons' relationships too. What really fascinates me is that at the end of Victory of Eagles, Laurence and Granby are still formal, which makes sense because until five minutes ago Laurence was his superior officer, but if I were the translator for this series I'd have them switch to informal with the beginning of book six but unfortunately I do not have that on hand so I can't check.
Now for the main event: Tharkay uses formal address with Laurence when he leaves to fetch more ferals at the beginning of book 4, and I thought he switched for the infamous "Laurence, what are you doing" which would have been exactly the right moment if you'd asked me, but in fact there is one random informal when they're out rescuing Granby in London (loose quotation: "that is [Woolvey's] problem and for those who would weep for him, even if they are close to your [informal] heart")? And then he goes right back to formal all the way to "Laurence, what are you [informal] doing" and finally switches properly, at which point Laurence follows his example. At first I thought that was weird and I am not sure if it was done on purpose, but on second thought I kind of like that he tries it out first when speaking of something personal (Laurence's concern for Edith) but isn't sure of it yet and retreats back to familiar territory until he realises that he needs to shock Laurence out of his war crime depression.
It's interesting to me that Tharkay was the one to take that step. Traditionally, like I said, it would be on the person in a position of authority to offer or, like with Granby, Laurence could have just switched once Granby was confirmed in rank to indicate that he wants to be friends now that he doesn't give orders anymore. Of course it makes perfect sense that Tharkay would not care one bit about rank, and he's not really an officer anyway and he certainly does not consider Laurence to have authority over him. I love that the translator (Marianne Schmidt) recognised that moment on campaign for what I think it is: not so much a turning point in their relationship but one that cements a degree of intimacy that Laurence doesn't have with anyone else. They would not have had access to book 6, I think, when they were working on book 5, so it very much is a deliberate choice based on their interactions up to this point. I made a list recently about people that Will Laurence calls by their first name (former first lieutenants, Catherine Harcourt, 1 FWB, and Tharkay) and now I feel like I need to make another list of people German! Will Laurence uses informal address with!

So... Lostbelt 6 part 2 is out and it's great! I haven't finished it yet but uh... I gotta address something. And it's this scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Good scene, right? Beautiful CG, some insight into the way Castoria thinks... but there's something wrong with this scene.
It's translated wrong.
Now if you're like me and you've been keeping up with fan translations for FGO, you may have realized this already, but this translation fundamentally misses the entire point of the scene.
This is what Castoria is supposed to be saying:
I don't want to see her. I don't want to be shown her. She's too much. I don't want to believe it. I don't want to acknowledge it.
After all.
She has no equal. Takes no refuge. No one who understands her. None who can comfort her.
She receives no reward. No goals. No rest. She cannot afford failure, not even a single mistake.
Ah—from the bottom of my heart, I think: "no."
Just how cruel must it be for everyone to smile and acknowledge a king like that?
Do you see the difference? This is a defining scene concerning Castoria's character. Something that sets her apart from every other iteration of Artoria that we've known so far (barring the Servantverse ones). Castoria sees the way of life that her PHH self chose and is repulsed. She can't stand to think about it. At first it seems like she's just buckling under the weight of those expectations, but in reality, Castoria just can't stand to see her.
She can't stand to see this other version of herself willingly throw away her humanity for the sake of an ideal. To give up her own happiness, to give up any chance of ever being understood, all to become a perfect king who the people will love and praise, but never truly understand.
It is a lonely existence, and like a certain redhead in Fate/Stay Night, she can't accept it. Who could bear to live like that? Who would want to live like that? Castoria wants nothing more than to be happy. She wants to make friends her age, eat sweets with them, go shopping with them and walk down the street while holding their hands. She wants to LIVE, and the thought of giving all of that up for the sake of everybody but yourself...
Noble? Sure. But it's mostly just tragic.
That's what this scene is about. Establishing exactly how Castoria feels about her Proper Human History self. She doesn't admire her, if anything it HURTS to see her, to know what she went through, to know what she did.
So WHY was it translated like this?
I'm the only one of my kind. I have nowhere to run. No one understands me. Romance is out of the question.
There's no reward. No finish line. no rest. I can't make so much as a single mistake.
Ahh... So many things I'll never have.
How cruel would I have to be for everyone to accept a king like me with a smile?
Listen, Castoria thinking of her own struggles in parallel to Saber's is interesting, and it isn't NOT there... but that isn't the point of the scene, and foregrounding it like this is uh...
It sure is a decision, that's for sure.
It's not necessarily bad, but it just doesn't fit due to the obvious reason that this isn't what the scene is supposed to be. This scene isn't Castoria seeing a vision of Saber and going "wow, how am I going to live up to this?" as if Saber's story is aspirational.
No. It's a tragedy, and what Castoria is actually thinking is "that's cruel and fucked up"
Anyways I just felt like putting this out there... and before anybody jumps down my throat about how the fan-translation could've been wrong... I did bring this up with a friend who can read Japanese and went to read the node in Japanese. While you could argue that because Caster and Artoria are acknowledged to be different versions of the same person, that Caster is using "I" to refer to the other, but the last line is just outright wrong. The scene is fundamentally about the cruelty of everyone around Saber placing an impossible burden on her, and how Castoria feels seeing that.

So, I've been debating about posting this because... well it isn't exactly pleasant for me to talk about.
But I've been wanting to share a little bit of why I don't like Aang. I know in the beginning I said I could like him because he was (at the time) a character that I felt was well written.
But then I realized I had the wool pulled over my eyes. And that is because of some trauma from my past I avoided talking about for close to 12 years now. Now that I'm able to address that trauma, I also realize that when that part of my life was going on, the show was also airing.
So let's talk about those two non-consensual kisses from an SA survivor's POV.
Without going into too much detail, throughout my teenage years, I and two other girls were consistently singled out by a group of boys. This is back in the early 00s, so the consensus was to completely ignore SA and SH. So, when a boy casually shoves his arm down your shirt and squeezes your breast, what do you do? Well, going to the people who are supposed to protect you doesn't work because 'boys will be boys' or 'I know his dad and he would never do a thing like that so you must be lying' so no one gets in trouble. It gets ignored. And it wasn't just the breasts. I can't tell you how many times my ass was squeezed on the way to my next class. During recess or lunch, I hid in the girls' bathroom because this went on for years. It was boys in my own class.
But regardless, it was blown off. This really affected me all the way into my adult years, where it still continued with some of my relationships. One of them being so toxic that I almost didn't make it out.
But back to the point...
The framing of Aang kissing Katara, not once, but twice and never bringing it up again... that is what gets me. The first kiss I could see as, yes, they are going into battle and could possibly die before confessing their love. But that doesn't mean that had to happen. It's what happens after that also drives me crazy.
Aang automatically assumes that because he kissed Katara, that meant they were together. This is a 12 year old boy. I get it, but that still doesn't make it right. I've been kissed like that before by one of the boys that thought it was okay. It's not. Actually, most of the time a girls/woman's reaction is to push the offender away.
This is never addressed after EIP either. Katara absolutely refuses, but we are supposed to feel sorry for the offender in that situation. Imagine being someone going through that at the very same time the show is airing... it sets a sour taste in the mouth, doesn't it? It's the same thing as saying 'boys will be boys' or 'that's what boys do' and completely ignoring it or the consequences. This is what happens all the time to women, and if it didn't happen to you, that's wonderful.
Which is why I have a problem with Katara still choosing Aang. More like Bryke made Katara choose Aang. Who assaulted her, but we are supposed to feel bad for him for being an idiot. No, that's not how this works.
People who defend that are not okay in my eyes.

Treasure for Three Days [6]

A/N: sorry for the late uploaddd, life got busy. we're almost at the endd

Previously
"I don't know Hobie... It's Miguel we're talking about."
Hobie smirk widened.
"That's exactly why, bruv."
Day three, Afternoon
You're here
You're finally back home.
The familiar vision of the shorelinen, the distant view of the village houses and if you look far enough you could see the castle.
The tension within the ship turned serious, Even Miguel.
His hand held your forearm, keeping you in place. Ever since the ship gor closer to your land, his demeanour changed.
Just like the first time you met him.
As the ship got closer and closer, he dragged you with him to the front edge of the deck.
The ship suddenly came to a stop, hitting the sand, You saw your father standing stiff with his right hand man beside him, holding a glass container and inside was the necklace.
You've only heard about it, but seeing it in person just feels different.
The necklace was in a shade of dark blue in a tear drop shape. The gem itself was incusted in crystals around it. Around the long band of the necklace, there's more blue gems scattered, making it look like as if rain stopped and crystalized on it.
Now you understood why Miguel wanted it badly. If one were to sell it, it would be enough to buy a castle for themself.
"Bring back the princess this instant, and you can have your damned necklace!" Your father demanded as Miguel and you step down from the ship and approached him.
"I'm glad we get to stay with our terms, your majesty." Miguel didn't hold back a mocking tone as he addresses your father.
Your father ignored him and signaled his right hand man to step forward and open the case to him.
Miguel snatched the jewelry out from the box called upon a crewmate.
His handed the necklace to the crewmate, who took out a small pocket-sized telescope and seemed to inspect the jewel in closer inspection.
"Well?"
"The real deal."
Miguel smiled and chuckled.
You yelp as you were suddenly pushed forward, you were about to trip, but gaurds caught you in time.
"And since I'm a man of my word, I'll spare your little village." Miguel said as he dropped his smile.
"But once I caught wind that your little army is gonna go after my crew, I can explode your people's livelihood in a flash."
With that threat in the air, Miguel turned around, his crewmate following close behind.
After a few minutes, you watch as they bring down the sail, bring the achor, and the crew can be heard celebrating.
Your eyes were caught in Miguel's as he started sailing off. His eyes bore into yours, and you can't seem to look away.
Deep at the back of your head, you wished he would stop and take you away again.

"Make sure she is well rested, and bring her favorite tea to her room."
"Yes, your majesty."
You could hear the muffled voices of your father as he ordered a maid outside your door.
You sighed as you looked outside your window, the very same window Miguel took you from.
The sun was starting to set, yet you couldn't find in yourself to relax. Something feels off, and you felt like stretching your legs, but you know if you did, you might get an earfull from your father and to your servants.
Within those three days, you learned a lot, especially from Miguel. You experienced amusement and greatness of the sea and other lands, The way people find joy in each other's company. And some trouble people find themselves in.
You can't lie.
You want to learn more.
Books are alright, but it doesn't compare to the real thing.
It doesn't compare to what Miguel tells you.
After pondering and pondering, you were snapped out of your thoughts when you hear your door open up and your maid comes in with a tray of your favorite tea with snacks on the side.
"I made sure to tell the chef to sneak you some double chocolate cookies."
Your maid offered you a gentle smile, and you appreciate it.
"Thank you."
The maid bows and leaves you to your own devices.
You drank your tea and ate your snacks.
Yet your head still jumps from thoughts to thoughts

"We did it, lads! To The Arachnids!" A crew celebrated, lifting a cup of alcohol to the air.
"To The Arachnids!" Everyone echoed.
While celebration and sea shanties could be heard from the deck.
Miguel is busy pondering.
He should be up there, celebrating and drinking their stash of rum until the last drop.
So why isn't he?
The necklace sits glimmering on his desk, the warm sunset light gives it an ethereal glow. He planned for this treasure for several days, going down to Plan A to Plan Z.
He kept his words and spared your kingdom from his cannons. He gave your pesky, spoiled ass back to where you belong, and in return, he got the treasure he wanted.
Is it really the treasure he wants now?
He remembers how your eyes glaze with fear the first time you met, now he remembers your eyes glimmering with something unspoken when he left.
He remembers how your lips turn into a frown when you both first spoken. He now remembers how your lips turn into a smile when he tells you adventures and scenarios outside of your kingdom's safe circle.
He sighs.
He glances as the bottle of rum on his table and he automatically took in his hand to take a quick gulp.
Fuck.
Its empty.
He groaned, standing up and heading to his private shelf of rum. But he finds himself stopping mid way.
He thought you already threw that shit away, away from this ship and away from his sight.
Your night dress.
The first thing you wore when you came into this ship, until you had to request a new dress.
He doesn't know why, but his steps took him to your dress, laying in a pile of barrels and what not.
He curses himself for picking it up, yet he doesn't stop. He heads back to his desk and plops down while staring at your nightgown as if his glare can burn it out of existence.
He feels the expensive silk and lace around the hem and sleeves.
As if his hands had a mind of their own, they bought the dress to his nose, and he weakly groaned at the hint of perfume you used. He sniffs more at the dress, and he groaned more when he smelled you. Just you.
"Fuck...."
Is it the alcohol this time?
He sure as hell he isn't drunk.
So why is his hand going down to his pants?
He doesn't care anymore.
Your smell brings him to an imaginary place, where you're still here, on your knees and your shining eyes staring up at him.
He weakly cussed at the image. He remembers how your mouth felt so warm, so tight and right. Just for him.
His hands tugged more at his dick, stroking it up to his imagintion, his nose smells your dress more, wanting to imprint the smell in himself.
"FFfff...fuck.." he moaned
His strokes are getting faster, the more he sniffs and the more he imagines that it's your mouth instead of hands.
His legs started shaking and his strokes more desperate.
Before he knows it, white has been splattered on his hand, some of it getting on your dress. He wishes it was your body instead.
Post nut clarity hit him like the titanic ship and angrily threw your dress to the side.
Why...
Why did he just do that.
He curses you for doing that to him. His not the type to believe in ridiculous superstisions and stories, but you're probably a siren in disguise who hypnotized him and maybe he should have listened to his crew when they said something about woman joining the ship.
He placed his elbow in the armchair and leaned his head on his hand, groaning at his actions.
He's the captain of the most feared pirate ship on the ocean.
He shouldn't be touching himself like this. Loads and loads of women would rather do that for him. Yet only your delicate hands are the only thing that comes to his head.
What is he gonna do with himself?
□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■□■
"No sign of injury, seems like all she needs is a bit of recovery and everything will be fine"
"Thank you, you may leave."
The doctor bows to your father's right-hand man and leaves the room. The right-hand man of your father sighed in relief and turned to you.
"I have left your favourite books by your side if you ever want to read. Just ring this bell if you ever need assistance."
With that, he bows and left you to your own.
You sighed. This might as be the tenth time you did. Two days have passed since your arrival back here, and you have been treated like glass ever since.
Your classes with your mentor have been postponed. Not to mention, the gaurds and security have been increased, especially around your balcony and front door. Every time you want to roam around the castle, you are instructed to always be with two gaurds at your side.
Although your father has announced that the annual ball is cancelled and that he already found a suitable for you, after your recovery, you will then meet this man and hope for the best that you and him will get along.
Your recovery will only last a few days, but you will still have to wait until the palace can conclude that visitors can visit.
In short.
Your bored.
You look at the balcony window and admire the shining water of the seas thanks to the afternoon sunlight.
You would sometimes day dream again and again that you're out there, exploring and discovering things that have never been discovered before. But alas, you have royal duties to continue.
You laid your back on the bed further as you sighed (again) out of frustration.
You really need to get out.
Just within those three days, you already felt like being inside is suffocating.
Maybe a walk in the gardens can help you relax. And so you did.

"C'mere you little rascal." Hobie chuckled as he held the hands of a prince of a kingdom he doesn't remember the name of.
"Careful with him, we still need information on the chest." Miguel said, as he looked around the place, touching antique things here and there.
"I told you I won't ever tell you a thing, now unhand me you filthy pirate!" He demands as he watches other crew members of Miguel beat up scrawny looking gaurds to the ground.
Miguel took one last look around the place.
"Peter, you got anything?"
"Nada" Peter's words were mumbled due to the macarons in his mouth.
"Miles?"
"I checked every corner and sides, none. The last resort is to really check his room." Miles said as he beat up another gaurd.
Miguel then approached the prince and smirked when his face contorted into fear. His eyes widened even more when he sees Miguel lifting his sword and aligning it to his neck.
"ALRIGHT! Alright! The map of the catacombs is in a secured chest under my bed. There! Now let me go!"
Hobie laughs, and Miguel starts heading straight to the mentioned room and opened the door.
"Search the place"
He watches as the crew eagerly forcefully break the lock of the chest.
Miguel takes their eyes off them since something caught his attention.
A painting.
Not just any painting.
But a painting of you.
You were on a simple pose of sitting down and facing the audience, by your side was a vase of flowers that seemed to match the colour of your dress. Your face in a gentle smile.
Miguel turned to face the bounded prince, his face contorted in fear, yet anger is still palable when he watches his crew gather more valuables than the map to the catacombs.
"Why do you have a painting of her?"
The prince's face turned to him in confusion, then a realization.
"Oh her? Some princess I have to meet and marry from a neighbouring kingdom. Can't help admit she'a quite a looker."
Miguel stared at him with a cocked eyebrow, he holds himself back from spitting on his face from disgust. You're more than a looker, that's for sure. But this idiotic prince doesn't seem to know that.
But other than that.
Marry?
You're gonna be bound for eternity with this type of guy who probably doesn't know how to keep eye contact for a second since he gonna be looking somehwere else.
And he probably doesn't have anything interesting to talk about. Like what? Crowns and politics? Sweet nothings and disgusting flirts?
He noticed his crew had already finished sacking the room and already waiting for his signal.
But his head gotten busy with something.
A plan.
That's it.
He turned back to face the prince and smirked.
"Say.... I will make my crew spare your catacombs riches...."
The crew and even Hobie looked at him in surprise.
Miguel isn't the type to give up a treasure easily. Miles glaced at Hobie, and Hobie surprised her look, turned into a knowing smirk. He nodded at the direction of the painting.
They then shared a knowing look of realisation.
"Spare the catacombs?"
Miguel smiled wider.
"But on one condition."

Well there’s child that bites that’s Bruce jr I believe, there is the one that got stuck in the ketchup bottle that one is also real hyperactive so maybe HC those two as twins make em identical nightmare children. I saw a fanfic where one of Bruce’s kids was like super allergic and intolerant to practically everything which causes problems cause Bruce owns a restaurant. And of course there is anarchist daughter. You should definitely give Bruce and brandy at least one pair of twins or triplets to justify him eventually having like 8-9 kids by the time he’s like 40ish.
Thanks for the ideas! Since we basically know nothing about them and most of them I don't even think have names at this point (?) it can be kinda of difficult. Bruce was about 13 when their parents divorced and it has been about fifteen years so Bruce is only about 28 at this point. He's not done having kids but he's got several already.
"Those two are twins, Jr. likes to bite," Bruce grimaced a little as he showed John some pictures. Brandy insisted on driving back home, even though Bruce said he could do it. He wasn't sure what her game plan was but she wasn't taking no for an answer. John just silently looked at whatever Bruce showing him at any given time and didn't seem to mind the rant and chatter. "And his twin is really... hyperactive. I love them to death but wow, they are everywhere, you have no idea."
"I can probably fix the biting," John replied.
He'd been doing that, insisting he could help or fix things or whatever. Bruce really wasn't sure what to make of it. His first instinct had been thinking that John thought there was something wrong with his kid that needed to be fixed and that made him upset. Sure, Jr. shouldn't be biting and they would work on that but he wasn't some broken thing to be fixed.
John said everything so plainly and Bruce couldn't really determine his meaning.
But he kept telling himself that John wasn't exactly himself either. The doctors said he would probably come back to himself. He just didn't really know who his brother was anymore.
"Uh... this one is allergic to pretty much life in general, especially cats, for some reason?" he said, flipping through the photo. "Which is tough because out neighbor loves cats and well... he's been kind of taking a liking to them too."
"Feed him eggs from a farm with barn cats," John replied.
"Uh... what?"
John looked up at him and tilted his head a little. Bruce had to take a moment to take that in. Clay did the same thing. Geez, how was he going to tell everyone else? He'd figure that out later.
"Helps with allergies."
"Okay...? It can be difficult with the restaurant since there is a bunch of stuff he's allergic and intolerant of but we are working on a medication regiment. And he's not really supposed to be around the kitchen anyways," he continued, trying to keep things normal but his speech just kept getting quicker and more excited. "They are going to love you. They have always wanted an uncle living close by. I know technically you don't have to stay out here but it is the best and you have an in!"
"An... in?"
"Me!" Bruce nodded with a grin. "I can get you set up with a fantastic place when you are recovered, if you want. You can stay with us as long as you want, I just know a lot of people tend to be independent so I thought hey, maybe he'd want a little place on the beach or something instead but then again, we haven't really seen each other in..."
"Alright, honey," Brandy interrupted. "You are getting a little excited."
"Where else would he go? We are by far the most financially stable and it's Hawaii for heaven's sake. People would kill to live here. There can't possibly be anywhere better. He doesn't even have an address."
Brandy just shot him a slight glare in the rearview mirror.
"Uh, he's right... uhm about the address thing," John confessed. "If I needed to spend my leave off base, I usually just found a camping spot or stayed with one of my squad."
Brandy's face twisted into something interested and possibly mischievous. John wouldn't have been able to catch it but Bruce definitely could. "Oh! We would love to hear about them! You must be very close."
"We are," John shrugged, lightly. "Might as well be family at this point. Kinda curated an orphans, losers and runaways club. Or in my case, all three," he chuckled.
It was the first time Bruce heard any sound that could possibly be classified as vague amusement from John, although Bruce wasn't entirely sure if it was genuine. He knew one thing; he didn't really like the type of humor.
"Except for Chaz, he's just a fool," John snorted. "They wouldn't let me get rid of him."
"What about the others?"
"Dickory is one of the best. He's very cunning but you can count on him even in strange plans. Pete is retired, not that you'd ever know he was there in the first place. Barely said a word. We useta call him Growly Pete cause that's generally how he was."
Okay. Best friend. Crotchety old man. This was okay. This seemed normal.
"Tresillo... hasn't been with us long but he's shaping up to be a good kid. Needed some discipline but considering his parents weren't exactly in the picutre, I get where he's comin from. He's grown a lot in the time that he's been with us, we're really proud of him."
Brandy glanced at Bruce again. He knew what she was thinking.
He wasn't going to think about it.
"Anyone else?" she asked.
He listed off a few more. "And then... and then Delta."
"Oh! Who is Delta?" Brandy asked with a smile.
"She's mah girl."
His what?
"My partner in crime, the law, whatever you wanna call it," John replied, rubbing his arm and looking out the window. "Go-to gal, best friend, right hand man or I'm hers, whatever you got, it's us. By some miracle the military thought it best to keep us stationed together. She ain't crazy but probably a good choice on their part."
"So, I suppose we will be seeing her visit sometime?"
"I'll haveta call her sister and see what all happened after well, this," John shrugged. "But maybe. It used to be where you found one of us, you wouldn't find the other far behind. I dunno how that'll be now. Things are different, but uhm... I'm hopin' she''ll come around sometime.''

do you think that the SA with apollo was planned from the start? lots of people seem to think rachel meant it to just be bad sex and then retconned it to be assault
oof, that's a tough one. i have definitely seen that argument / belief in anti lo circles and several other lo critical blogs have discussed this in far more depth with far better understanding than i, so i won't novel spam the dash, but i am honestly and genuinely torn on it tbh.
like it wouldn't surprise me if that's true, because rachel has demonstrated over and over how poorly she understands consent, safe dynamics, and just female agency in the first place. there are definitely some aspects of the initial assault that, looking back on it now, made me wonder. considering how rachel's been trying to retcon some of this out it's difficult looking back at the assault and wonder what exactly rachel's thought process was in the plot as a whole.
that being said, i did not start reading lo until long after rachel was fully fleshed out on webtoons, so i could not even begin to say how she was on tumblr, or anything before the season 2 finale tbqh. and i can give her the credit on this at least, i have always viewed the assault as 1000% no doubt no question assault. genuinely it scares me if rachel wrote and drew that whole thing out and didn't know it was rape, because for many many many people, myself included, it was just so blatantly familiar and clearcut as rape.
it's one of those things that i just can't wrap my head around because it has not been resolved, or really addressed with persephone being in charge of her own healing. it keeps getting thrown in as a kind of hurdle for people to cross, and apollo has never been taken to task for it, punished for it, faced any splash back. even when daphne finds out what he did, she's immediately put into the position of running for her life, and then when she's finally free she just ... doesn't tell anyone?
what's even more concerning is that we see numerous male characters in the text play fast and loose with consent, and rachel really wavers on whether it's bad or not. ares keeps hitting on persephone when she clearly doesn't like it, and he usually ends up getting the narrative coming down on him; zeus lies to demeter to trick her and that gets handwaved away to make room for the bad blood between demeter and hades. hades grooms persephone and then initiates sex when she's in the middle of a bad mental health spiral (obviously just my interpretation of it but i viewed a lot of that scene as persephone having an anxiety attack, and regardless of whether that's canon or not, she's definitely not in the right space for hades to initiate some weird ass daddy dom routine.) so rachel seems to understand what consent is to some degree, but the issue of consent disappears depending on who is asking for it. rachel makes it clear that hades is totally fine and doing the right thing for persephone, whereas if we saw zeus doing that same thing to hera, the narrative would definitively label zeus bad. so whether rachel always intended that scene to be rape, or figured it out later, i think the big question is: why aren't all the characters held to the same standard of consent, and why are so many female characters constantly the victim of men who do not ask?

Having rj/rjk jamiegender thoughts and I feel like Roy's reception of Jamie's gender identity would be very much the old man way of saying a lot without saying much ykwim? Like at first Jamie's fairly tame painted nails don't even garner a response from roy, he just laces their fingers together and goes about his day (jamie is glowing).
Then more obvious stuff like makeup would have roy squinting at jamie before going "why do you look fucking gorgeous today?" Inside, Jamie's squealing giggling kicking her feet while outside she covers by scoffing "what do you mean 'today?' I'm gorgeous every day."
Keeley tests the waters one day (with permission) when they're all about to go out and roy asks where jamie is. "She's upstairs, almost done getting ready," keeley says, eyeing roy closely. He squints at her for a few seconds before doing his acknowledgement grunt and mutters something about taking fucking 3 hours to get ready, but also compliments jamie when she bounds down the stairs.
I think the eventual talking about it would consist of royjamie snuggling, in bed for the night and roy quietly asks, "are you my girl?" Jamie anxiously buries his head in Roy's neck but roy keeps gently stroking Jamie's back. A minute of this and jamie says "sometimes," voice muffled. Roy goes "mn. Good. Let me know, yeah?" Trusting jamie to speak up when he needs to.
"Okay," Jamie murmurs, voice thick and curling into Roy's embrace even more.
"Fuckin love you."
"Love you, Roy."
Roy turns his face into Jamie's hair and breathes them in.
This is SO fucking sweet and exactly how I picture this w these three <3
Roy wants to be supportive but doesn't exactly know how to do that and is worried about being presumptuous or offending Jamie (because he was raised in a hypermasculine space and has internalized the idea that he's demeaning Jamie by comparing her to a woman or bringing attention to his femininity) so he kind of tiptoes around it and addresses it in little bits, but Jamie LOVES it and absolutely revels in it every time Roy brings it up in those small subtle ways
And at the same time Jamie (who was brought up in a similar environment to Roy obviously) has this deep-seated fear that Roy will think less of her if she comes out, so he doesn't ask for affirmation or put a name to his identity when talking about it with Roy at first
Whereas Keeley is more informed about the genderqueer community and identities and kind of has a more contemporary perspective on these things than Roy and Jamie do, so she addresses it more directly with Jamie and they talk about it more head-on and have openly Yuri sex

HOFAS REVIEW (SPOILERRRRS)
I wanted to do a HOFAS Review bc i've seen so many opinions of this book... Beware spoilers!
Okey, first of all, my rating for this book: 4.5 ⭐️ I LOVED IT!
Sorry to everyone who hated it, i just couldn't. I loved it! Even tho i do have some things to say. Let's start on the story itself (plot, writing style...):
The plot to me was good, even tho at some points a lil bit too dense. But I really enjoyed seeing how the whole story that started in book one ended. I really liked how everything was tied up and how all those things that appeared in book one actually made sense now in book three. Again, at some points it became difficult to follow, but in the end everything made sense.
Bryce and Hunt's romantic story. I love them! Bryce was a little annoying at some point, but i totally get what she was trying to say/do. It's unfair to say that she doesn't care for Hunt bc she looked past his trauma. She didn't! She was dealing with a lot of stuff and maybe her first reaction wasn't good, but she realized her mistake and just asked him to finish what he started! Plus, all of you saying they don't have a connection... Be fucking for real. Their love is so pure and so mature! They're adults navigating difficult times and it SHOWS.
Ruhn and Lidia uggggggh absolutely love them! To me, Lidia was THE character on this book. Love her development, her relationship with Ruhn and overall her character. I wished we would have had a lil bit more of Ruhn pov, tho.
Tharion i love u idc what everyone says you're my fav fish<3
I really liked that it wasn't a different pov each chapter and that it was mostly bryce's and hunt's pov. But sometimes it got weird the pov changing in the middle of the chapter, it was like "wait what?" kinda situation. But overall I enjoyed it.
The ACOTAR crossover!!!! Loved it! Love to see that Nesta and Azriel became good friends and I looooooooove to see Nesta as a warrior. So powerful! She's my baby and I'm so excited bc it looks like we're getting another acotar book for her, can't fucking wait. I would have liked a little bit more of Feyre and also I was expecting for them to go help Bryce and have an epic final battle scene with the ACOTAR characters, but i'm not mad that didn't happen.
Now, for the things i didn't like:
Ithan's pov. Sorry, it was just boring! Let it go already omg... So annoying. Plus i didn't get the whole sigrid situation. It just felt like Sarah didn't remeber she existed in CC2 and didn't know what to do with her in CC3. All that "new fendyr heir" talk over and over again just to have her killed? Don' get it! It seemed like she would be Ithan's love interest and suddenly we have another character out of the blue named perry that's being set up with him... Weird.
Ariadne? What happened to her? She left the vyper queen and poof, gone. She appears at the end to tell tharion that going back to the meat market is a stupid decision and then disappears again... Ok. It was weird.
Sathia! What happened to her? Again, it seemed like the character was bothering Sarah and she didn't know what to do with her... So she set up the whole ex situation and byebye. And Flynn didn't even think to ask where the fuck his sister was? It was just so random.
This is just a curiosity, but i realized that Bryce said Rhys looked exactly like Ruhn, but then Ember didn't say anything about it when she first met Rhys... Sarah just probs forgot but i found it weird.
That bonus chapter with nesta and ember... OMG a lot of thoughts on that. I love Nesta, but I'm mad about Rhys tearing her apart, like he just knows that feyre would have done exactly the same thing as nesta, cmon😭 Also i love Cas, even though i'm a lil mad that he always sides with rhys so boldly and i would love for nesta to address that on the next acotar book.
Overall, it was a good book and i really enjoyed it!

Avatar the Last Airbender Netflix Episode 1- "Aang"
Tumblr media
Well...the time has come.
My biggest question going into this series is asking why it needs to exist. I mean, from a business standpoint it makes sense. ATLA exploded in popularity overnight during the pandemic and Netflix wanted to cash in while the iron was still hot. Moreover, it's one of those "safe bet" projects. The name recognition alone is going to attract some viewers, even if just to compare it to the original. Doesn't matter if you don't like it, you still saw it. And if it boosts their numbers, it'll be a success regardless of critical reception.
No, my question stems from a creative standpoint: what are they going to do in order to make this remake seem like a necessary thing? What was so important that they needed to retell the story over again?
That's my thoughts going into the first episode. My first complaint is the structuring. It would not be a stretch to say that this episode had THREE introductions (arguably five if you count Aang and the water siblings being introduced): one by Kyoshi that gave an overview of the setting, one that set up that the Fire Nation was going to attack the Southern Air Temple during Sozin's Comet, and yet another by Gran Gran where she basically recited the original series opening. It just feels clunky, that we're being told the same information over and over again with exposition dumps.
And yeah, there's quite a few of them. Sure, some exposition is necessary to quickly relay the state of the world. But then we have stuff like Katara explaining that the Earth Kingdom is holding out in Ba Sing Se even though that's not exactly relevant to the current story? Stuff like that seems too much to throw at the viewer in too short a span of time. I'd hate to compare it to the original series where stuff like this was introduced more organically within the context of the story (Ba Sing Se was first mentioned in Iroh's siege of it, right?).
Last thing is that the acting was...hit or miss. Which to be fair I think was more direction and writing than any fault on the actors. Katara was...she was just kind of there for the most part I felt, not having any of the pent up anger of the original. And Gran Gran...yeah, her acting was bad. Really bad. Again, I'm blaming more on the writing since she felt stiff and didn't have any of the loving qualities despite her weariness of the original (didn't get a scene of her saying goodbye to Katara and Sokka for example).
Now, stuff I liked, and there was quite a few that I did like. I liked the actor who played Aang, he was a great choice. Really nailed down the balance between goofball and needing to take things more seriously. Some of the comedy beats were pretty good, like the one Southern Water Tribe member saying "He looks dead" about Aang, Sokka screaming his head off while riding on Appa, or one of the Fire Nation sailors grumbling about Zuko dragging their asses all over the place (first swear in the franchise and Zuko caused it).
There are two things I want to address here. The first change of Aang being more duty-oriented and wanting to clear his head instead of running away. I get the backlash...but I also think it's addressed here. In the original, Aang learned out in the worst way possible with nobody there to ease him into it. Which resulted in him running away. Here, Monk Gyatso broke it to him as gently as he could. It was still a bad situation, but I think a father figure being there to sort of steer him in the right path would've toned down his reaction in the original if that was allowed to happen. Plus it would've given Aang more incentive to take his duties seriously if Gyatso guided and vouched for him. Like he's doing it for his old mentor. I'd be interested to see where this goes.
Last thing: the scene between Aang and Iroh. It's simple, but effective. Aang asks why Iroh why the Fire Nation is waging the war, and the old man just gives off what sounds like Fire Nation propaganda. Aang shuts him down and Iroh...silently nods and agrees with him. It's actually pretty powerful. Aside from him realizing the implications that he just advocated the imperialistic rhetoric to a survivor of said rhetoric, it also sort of humanizes the Fire Nation a bit where an old veteran like Iroh admits that no, sometimes he and his people weren't always in the right. It's just he can't do much about it.
There. I complimented an Iroh scene and admitted he got one of the best scenes in the episode. Happy now?
All in all, it was...a solid start. I think I'm a bit more forgiving in terms of Aang's changed character since...well, I wasn't asking for a one-to-one remake of the original. There were a few things that bothered me, but I'm willing to hold the benefit of the doubt until they start becoming bigger problems down the line.
At the start of my watch, I asked whether or not a remake like this was necessary. What I got from this episode was..."maybe?" It's clear they want to do something different in terms of character, which is fine. It's just how clunky some of the dialogue and structuring choices were that holds it down a little. A shaky start, but there's room for potential.

Outside of the fox
Chapter 17 of ???(I've entirely lost track)
4500 words
Y/N longs for a new life when the one she'd been living comes to an abrupt stop. Without much thought to those she is leaving behind, the little fox packs a backpack and disappears. She stumbles across the shelter and makes an interim home for herself while she works out exactly what she wants from her second chance.

Jin falls into step easily beside the large bear hybrid. He has always thought his legs were gangly and too long for his subspecies, but he is glad to have them now as Namjoon seems to wait for no one, too wrapped up in his own thoughts. He shoots medical questions at Jin as if he has a deadline to meet. Somehow Jin finds it oddly charming. So few people show interest in his work and he has few friends to share his time with.
He watches how Namjoon's brow furrows as he tries to remember medical terms to discuss with him. It's endearing. He supplies words for him occasionally but mostly just listens to the man. It's clear that he hasn't had a chance to talk about his medical knowledge in a long time and Jin would be lying if he said he didn't just like listening to the man's deep voice.
Ordinarily, Seokjin would never have accepted an invitation to join a patient for the holiday, it was a horrible blurring of personal and professional lines. But Jungkook insisted, and there was something about that boy that Jin found odd but magnetic all the same. He was more reluctant leading up to the day, he had almost chickened out but they had only left him an address, no number to call, and he couldn't just not turn up.
And now he was beyond glad that he had.
"I'm sorry, you probably don't want to talk about your work this much." Namjoon eventually stops himself, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
"It's quite alright, I'm happy to talk about medicine, especially when you seem so interested yourself," Jin says.
"There must be more to you than that, tell me about your hobbies."
"Hobbies?" Jin blinks owlishly.
He hasn't partaken in hobbies since long before medical school, it was difficult to find the time. He had once enjoyed playing tennis, although he was never any good, and he did adore cooking when he got the chance but he wouldn't call it a hobby.
"Yeah, you know.... the things you do for fun?" Namjoon supplies, laughing a little awkwardly.
"Right, yeah... I don't know I don't have a lot of time to myself these days, I always end up watching TV and napping when I'm free."
"Napping can be a hobby, ask Jungkook he seems to have taken it up professionally."
The two men laugh easily together and it feels nice. It's been too long since Jin has had a chance to talk to someone so casually.

"Stop looking at me like that," Yoongi grumbles at his companion.
"Like what Sugar?" Taehyung batts his eyelashes innocently.
"Like you've known me longer than 76 hours."
"But I have... I've known exactly the type of man you are since I read that first note you sent me in Y/N's lunch."
Taehyung brushes his arm against Yoongi, swaying deliberately into the man. A blush creeps across the jackal's face but it's hidden well by the red covering his nose from the cold evening air.
"Come on Yoongi, you even scented that note. It was subtle but I smelled it, and you... I've been hooked since." Taehyung confesses.
Yoongi doesn't have a response. Because he did scent the note and to this day he has no idea why. It's oddly intimate for a stranger, he had told himself it was just for Y/N's lunch, but he wasn't really scenting her then either.
"If you think we can't court because I don't know you well enough, tell me more." Taehyung prompts, any teasing was now gone from his tone.
"I don't know what to tell you about me but I'm already courting two people. And before now I've never courted deliberately in my life."
"Then what's one more," Taehyung says
He makes a good point.
"Fine but we are taking this very slowly, like agonisingly," Yoongi replies.
Everything after fine seems to fall on deaf ears as Taehyung's smile hits 1 million watts.
__________________________________________________
"So Jungkook...." Hoseok starts awkwardly.
His gaze is focused down on his trainers as he kicks a pebble along with them on their walk. He has never had one on one time with the youngest and now seemed like a weird time to start. He liked the rabbit, it was difficult not to, he inspired protective instincts in the most docile of people, but he wasn't sure they had anything in common at all. Other than maybe their affection for Yoongi, that doesn't seem like a lucrative topic.
"What game were you playing earlier?" He asks, knowing that video games are a safe space.
And yet, Jungkook's cheeks go bright red anyway. His ears droop a little and Hobi worries that all progress they had made in the last few weeks has been destroyed by that innocent question.
"I'm sorry, you don't have to tell me... What do you want to talk about." He tries to backtrack.
"No...I, I want to talk about it. I've been dying to talk about it, but it's embarrassing." Jungkook confesses.
Hoseok's interest is piqued. Of all the descriptors for games embarrassing is not one he would use often.
"You can tell me, no judgement here. Never ever judgement." He tries to put the bunny at ease.
Jungkook takes a deep breath and gets a very serious look on his face.
"Have you ever heard of otome games?"
It might be the most fluent Jungkook has ever been as he talks Hoseok through the world of interactive romantic novels. He has never seen the bunny so excited to just talk with someone. He lets Jungkook monologue at him and finds himself quite invested in the world that Jungkook is explaining. A world where you have multiple love interests vying for your attention, all while you get to go on some kind of exciting adventure sounds like a great way to waste a few hours. Although he supposes the multiple love interests isn't really a thing of fiction to him now.
He turns back around to gaze at you a little longingly only to find you and Jimin have fallen behind.
He can see your outlines in the dimming light, how close together you are. He watches as Jimin's arms snake around your waist and his stomach twists with misplaced jealousy.
He isn't proud of what he did next.
"Are you guys coming?" He yells.
He watches as you jump away from Jimin a little and he can hear Jungkook snicker beside him when he realises what was happening.
__________________________
You make it back to the house shortly after your kiss, turns out you were only a few roads over.
You sit on the garden furniture and wrap a blanket around yourself tightly. Jimin fetches the desert you had abandoned earlier, serving each of you a slice of cake as Namjoon and Yoongi head up the hill to ignite the bonfire.
Jimin feeds forkfuls to Jungkook as they cuddle together under one of the blankets. Taehyung attempts the same with you and you roll your eyes but take the bite anyway. It's deliciously decadent. Taehyung pouts when you don't offer him your own fork in return.
"You realise we are just trading the same desert back and forth right?" You point out.
"It's about the romance of it Y/N, live in the fantasy a little will you?" He scolds.
You shake your head at him. You take the smallest bite possible onto your fork and present it to him. He takes the fork between his teeth in a way that is clearly meant to be seductive. He bites down and scrapes all of the dessert from the utensil and grins at you when he is done.
You can see the smoke beginning to build up the hill and Yoongi's figure appears beckoning you all to join them. You each gather as many blankets as you can carry and walk together until you can see Namjoon and Yoongi wrapped up in each other's embrace watching the embers begin to consume the wood that had been prepared earlier.
Jimin points to a spot a safe distance away from the fire and you all follow him there, laying out the thickest blankets on the floor to protect you from the cold ground. You all sit in a line, passing blankets along the line and snuggling close to keep the cool wind from getting through the gaps. The warmth emanating from the bonfire has you reaching out your hands towards it, everyone else following suit as they try to regain feeling in their fingertips.
"This is delightful." Jin comments.
The doctor is sat carefully on the edge of the blanket, leaning slightly away from the group, although Namjoon has draped a blanket to connect the two of them together.
"Is this what you guys do for the rest of the night?" Taehyung asks, staring directly into the flames.
The fire reflects prettily in his eyes, making the dark brown look more like whisky.
"Oh no, we do this for about 3o minutes until Yoongi grumbles about being bored and cold, then we get alcohol and start writing wishes down to through into the fire." Jimin supplies. "We can start early tonight if you like?"
"If you want me to get drunk in time then we should get going." Hoseok nods.
Jimin takes Taehyung's hand and pulls him up with him to go and fetch supplies from the house and the rest of you continue to watch how the fire consumes the discarded items that had been placed into it.
The pair don't take too long, coming back with two boxes. One containing red solo cups, fruit, and mixers. The other contains four different liquors and some writing equipment along with a clipboard for each of you. You each grab a cup, pouring a little more alcohol than you probably should for a first drink and a clipboard. You choose a couple of glittery gel pens and make yourself comfortable back in your spot on the blanket waiting for everyone else.
Namjoon stands in front of all of you with his cup raised to the sky.
"A few rules to begin." He starts, met with groans from those of you sitting down. "First, no one steps over the barrier of safe distance regardless of how drunk you get. "
He points to the bricks surrounding the fire, a barrier placed about 3 metres around the fire.
"If we can't go near the fire how to we burn the wishes?" You ask, but are meet with shushes from Yoongi and Jungkook.
"Second, You need to finish at least one drink before you even think about writing down a wish."
Everyone nods and takes a sip.
"Third, you can't make anyone share their wish."
You glance at Jimin to find him already looking at you sheepishly.
"And finally don't think too hard, anything you want can be a wish. With that let's have a toast. To the past and to the future, come what may, let us be together. TO US!"
"TO US!" You chorus and take a long sip of your drinks.
"When everyone has finished their wishes we will put them into the fire together." He gestures to a wooden box at the corner of the barrier that you hadn't noticed.
Namjoon presses play on a speaker and music covers the sound of the crackling fire.
You let the alcohol burn your throat as you rush to finish your first drink, it appears the others do the same as they all reach for more alcohol to top up their cups. Hoseok holds out a bottle to you and you present your cup to him. He pours recklessly, leaving even less room for your mixer than the last drink. The look in his eye is positively devilish when he finally pulls the bottle away.
You try not to think about it too hard as you turn your attention to your empty clipboard. It finally occurs to you that you have no idea what you want to write. A lot of your wishes from when you left your old life behind have come true.
You have a job of your own.
You have friends of your own.
You know what freedom tastes like.
You glance around to see what everyone else is writing but most of them have their boards covered like overprotective nerds in an exam. You can see that Jungkook is changing pen colours for almost every word and that Namjoon seems to be writing a novel with a fountain pen, both are so different, yet very them. Jimin and Taehyung haven't even started theirs, the clipboards forgotten as Taehyung free-pours vodka into Jimin's awaiting mouth, not stopping until a little dribbles out of the corner. Taehyung uses his index finger to swipe up the wasted alcohol and put it into his own mouth.
Yoongi has already finished his, folding it neatly and posting it into the box before neatly returning his pen and clipboard. Hoseok seems as stuck as you, chewing the lid of the pen past the point of no return. And Seokjin is writing slowly, thinking a little then writing a little.
You turn your attention to the blank page and pick up the purple glitter pen. Instead of writing words, you doodle in the corners creating intricate patterns and using other colours to fill in the blank spaces. Eventually, you've drawn so much aimlessly that you only have space to write one wish. You contemplate going for another piece of paper but this feels right.
Everyone else has posted their wishes into the box and they are standing around drinking and talking or dancing together. You still can't think of anything you want that these men haven't already helped you to get. So you write down the very thing you told Jimin you would.
You take ahold of the purple glitter pan again, almost out of ink, and write down.
*I wish all of their wishes come true*
You waste time folding the paper into a little boat before standing up to add it to everyone else's.
"Right is that everyone?" Namjoon asks, clearly having been watching you.
The group nods and he takes the box from your hands before throwing it directly into the bonfire, landing ceremoniously at the top. The fire licks at the new fuel. Flashes of pink and purple flames mix in with the orange before the whole chest is encompassed in colourful flames.
The newcomers and yourself all stare in wonder as the rainbow of colours appears around your wishes as they burn.
"Namjoon's such showoff," Yoongi says, "Covers the box in powders like potassium and lithium chloride to put on a show. The sap says it makes things more magical." The cynicalness of his comment is evidently a front as his eyes never leave the flame.
"It's so pretty," Jungkook says, eyes wide.
You remember then that this is his first year experiencing the bonfire too, he has only ever heard stories until this point and clearly, the others had wanted to keep this as a little surprise.
The colourful display doesn't last too long and the box becomes an unrecognisable mess among the already charred remains.
"What now?" Jin asks, glancing away from the fire to look at the others.
"Now we drink, talk, dance. Whatever you normally do at a party I guess." Jimin shrugs.
Again you find yourselves sectioning off into groups. Hoseok drags Yoongi to dance with him. Jimin and Taehyung return to the bottle of vodka that they've been sharing between them all evening. And Namjoon finds Jungkook, pulling the bunny into his arms and kissing his nose, talking about something you can't hear.
"Interesting group of guys," Jin says, sidling up next to you.
You turn to face him, properly. He smells a little like the brandy he has been sipping on for the last hour. You've noticed he is only on his second drink. Immediately slowing down after completing the first rule of the night. Perhaps you should've followed his lead as your head swirls from drink number four.
"You think they are weird..." You point out.
"I do." He confirms "But in a very charming way. They are a very quirky bunch, but I can see why it's so easy to get sucked into their energy like you have."
You don't answer him, you take another sip of your drink instead prolonging the silence. Each of the boys is very individual but now, even with Taehyung being added in, it just makes sense to you. Even having Jin there has felt oddly right throughout the day. Everyone has a partner, but with an interchangeability that feels easy, it seems like it would be even weirder to tell an almost stranger that you think he fits in than it would be to remain silent.
"Don't take it the wrong way. I have enjoyed every moment of today. If two of them hadn't been my patients I might even pursue a friendship with each of you." His eyes land on Namjoon and Jungkook and his eyes glaze over in thought.
"You could still be friends with them. It's not like they came to you with intimate issues. If it's an issue of ethics I don't think any boundaries would be crossed." You muse.
This time he takes a long sip of his drink, looking like he has a million things he wants to say but none of them will reach his tongue. You let the silence stretch, watching the others for a little while allowing Jin time to think.
"I might think about it. Talking to Namjoon today was a wonderful change of pace to my non-existent social life. I do however hold some concerns about Jungkook..." He trails off as if unsure of how much he can say.
"Are they about his anxiety? Because I think I might have the same concerns as you." You admit.
"They are, but as a medical professional, I don't know enough about the man. And as an acquaintance, it is well out of my jurisdiction to even suggest anything about the condition." He says.
"Yeah... I've wanted to say something but it doesn't seem like my place, and they seem pretty certain they have it handled.
The conversation veers off after that and the two of you continue people-watching.
____________________________________________________
Hoseok doesn't really give Yoongi a choice as he swings the jackal around with him in time to the music playing. And Yoongi's sure he wouldn't want it any other way. He lets the human twirl and dip him, laughing as Hoseok leans in close to kiss him. The song changes to something much slower and he finds himself wrapped in Hobi's embrace, barely an inch between them.
"Are you enjoying your solstice puppy"
Yoongi grimaces at the joking nickname Hoseok had decided to give him. He pushes away from him in protest, but it's halfhearted and he remains firmly in Hoseok's grasp.
"I was." He sighs dramatically, before giggling. "Are you Jagi?"
"Very much so. It's nice having such a big group to celebrate with."
The two glance around at the others.
"Do you want to tell me your wish?" Yoongi asks.
"I thought Namjoon said you weren't allowed to ask?" Hoseok raises an eyebrow.
"We are allowed to ask, we just aren't allowed to push." He shrugs "If you don't want to tell me you don't have to."
"It's a good job I want to tell you then isn't it." Hobi's voice is teasing. "I wished to do this again next year, exactly the same way as this year... well almost exactly the same."
"Oh yeah? What do you want to change, maybe it's something we can make happen tonight?" Yoongi sounds concerned thinking he'd missed something.
Hoseok reaches out to smooth the wrinkle that had appeared between the older man's brow.
"I think it would be a bit ambitious to hope to be romancing more of our members than just you tonight." He shrugs
"Oh really? I reckon any one of them would happily fall to their knees for you if you asked. Who is your eye on?" Yoongi asks.
He turns Hobi in his arms, holding him around the waist so their hips grind together. They spin together looking at all of their friends in turn.
"Is it Namjoon? His lips feel so nice against your skin, they are so pillowy. Or is it Jiminie? Have you been picturing his pretty little hands ghosting over your skin? Or have you dared to think of our forbidden little fox? I bet she would sound really beautiful if you bit her lip just a little." Yoongi whispers suggestively into Hoseok's ear.
"Is it bad if I say I want them all?" Hoseok answers, leaning his head back onto Yoongi's shoulder. "I'll even take the doc if he is an option... Have you seen his shoulders?" Hobi practically moans.
"I don't know about the doctor I'm afraid, although if Kookie has his way he might become a permanent feature. Have you seen the way the poor bunny looks at the man? And Kookie gets what Kookie wants."
"And don't get me started on Y/N, did you see her and Jimin earlier?" Hobi asks, standing up straighter so he can look at Yoongi's face properly.
"I didn't? why?" Yoongi released the other from his hold, the flirty tone gone as it's replaced with intrigue.
"He finally made his move, and kissed her while we were walking earlier."
The two of them get a little too excited about the prospect of what this could mean.
"Here I was worried when I scented her the other day. She flinched so far away I thought I'd spooked her for good."
"Well, that seems a little dramatic."
"Okay maybe it wasn't that bad, but it felt bad." Yoongi pouts.
"Looks like she is coming around, maybe she was just surprised," Hoseok says leaning in to kiss the frown away.
___________________________________________________
"Down the hatch Jiminie," Taehyung says.
He holds Jimin's chin in place with his finger and thumb as he pours yet another shot down the red-heads throat. The little panda takes it like a champ swallowing the entire shot easily. Taehyung wipes away the excess from his lip. He can't resist the plush feeling against his thumb. He doesn't expect the way that Jimin takes the opportunity to suck his finger, finishing off the last drip of alcohol.
He can't really control himself when he leans in to kiss the other man. It's a sloppy drunken kiss but it feels perfect in the moment.
Maybe Taehyung had always intended for Y/N to be his next kiss but this felt right. Something about Jimin was too interesting, too alluring, too sweet.
They don't pull back until Taehyung's lungs are burning for a proper breath.
"I'm..m sorry." Jimin hiccups, but his smile suggests he is anything but.
"You are so pretty," Taehyung says before diving in for one more kiss.
This time it's slower, a little more chaste, and ends a lot quicker.
"This wasn't how my slow and charming courting plan was supposed to go..." Taehyung says.
He takes Jimin's hand in his and starts to draw little patterns on the skin.
"I have slow with Y/N, this is much more satisfying..." Jimin admits.
"Oh good, because I would hate if we decided to slow down after that. I don't think I ever want to stop touching you now."
"I you really want to touch me then we should go and dance." Jimin winks.
He pulls away from Taehyung and runs across the hill to where Hoseok and Yoongi are dancing together. Taehyung laughs and follows him gladly.
_______________________________________________________
"How was your first solstice, my love," Namjoon asks as he pulls Jungkook to him.
"The colours were so cool hyung," Jungkook says as he nestles into Namjoon's chest. "I've had so much fun today."
"What were your favourite parts?"
"There are so many." Jungkook thinks for a minute. "Opening presents was fun."
"Is that it?" Namjoon laughs.
"Of course not. The food was delicious, I liked talking to Hoseok on our walk, seeing Jimin finally kiss Y/N, The pretty colours, right now in your arms. So many things." The bunny says, each item running into the other.
Jungkook speaks so fast that he almost misses what Jungkook is really telling him.
"Wait?" His brain takes a moment to process the information it's been given. "Jimin kissed Y/N?"
"Yeah... during the walk, did you not see them. They didn't really try to hide it." Jungkook takes a step back from Namjoon.
"I didn't, no... guess I was too invested in what Jin had been talking about."
Jungkook looked a whole other kind of excited at the realisation that Namjoon had been so wrapped up in Jin that he hadn't been paying obsessive attention to the pack as he might usually have done. The bear so rarely lets himself relax it's nice to know he got to take a break today. It also suggests he could be forming a friendship with the doctor meaning Jungkook could see him more...
"Well they did, Hobi and I saw it. I don't think it lasted long. Hoseok seemed concerned they were falling behind so he called out to them."
"Yeah, I bet that was the reason." Namjoon shakes his head. Humans are so easily jealous. "But if that's true and Jimin has finally made his move that means the rest of us can maybe start to take our relationship with Y/N in a more romantic direction."
Jungkook thinks about it a little. He has been perfectly happy with the friendship he has been building with the fox. It felt nice to cuddle with her and be close but he wasn't sure if he wanted more from their relationship, he wasn't prepared to let another person in that could leave him, especially when they knew so little about the life you had come from. He still wasn't particularly happy about the others persuing you romantically.
Namjoon on the other hand has too many thoughts going through his head. Thoughts about how he can blur lines in your relationship in ways you would feel comfortable with but would definitely feel more romantic than friendly. Ever since he had kept you warm at the supermarket, your scent had lingered in his mind and he was constantly looking for reasonable reasons to touch you, but they rarely seemed to appear organically.
"Let's not think too hard on it tonight Hyung. I feel like I haven't had you to myself all day." Jungkook whines a little.
"Okay, love. Do you want to talk about something? Or do you just want me to hold you?"
"How about we dance?" The younger man asks.
As he takes Namjoon to walk towards the speaker, Jimin runs in front of them closely tailed by Taehyung.

Hello, Hamliet.... is it true that the Bible said homosexuals should be punish in new testament? If I'm not wrong remembered (yes, I'm from christian household) is it not that king david have 'special feelings' for jonathan?
My mother has really strong belief in religion (christianity) and she is an anti-LGBTQ+. But do you believe that her brother (my uncle) who is definitely a queer (wear make up, dresses really feminely, and sometimes called himself as she, never married until he's in sixties), my mother said he is normal ?????
That's why I want to know more about LGBTQ+ (eventhough in my country it is still a taboo topic).
Do you think it's weird Hamliet, if I prefer to read mlm & wlw instead of het romance? I just felt fed up with reading or watching het romance (wlm)....
Thanks to you Hamliet, I know more about myself, eventhough there are still a bit if feeling guilty every time I read or watch LGBTQ+ contents....
No, it doesn't say it should be punished in the New Testament.
It does get mentioned once, arguably three times, but really for certain once, and that context has nothing to do with punishment.
I'm going to give a very bare bones explanation of my understanding of it below! There are also lots of theology papers on it and I'm like, skimming the surface here.
The arguable ones lists a word that is often translated as "homosexuality" in a list of sins that "won't inherit the kingdom of God." However, the two words that get translated as such need more looking at.
One is always translated literally as "softness," but is always used in reference to prostitution. Most likely (given the letters it appears to and the communities they were a part of and the prevalence of temple prostitution there) temple prostitution (which should not be thought of as largely consensual in this context, either). There are also some fair arguments based on the words used and the known history of these cities that it's referring to ritual p*do abuse of children.
The other of the Greek words that gets translated as such is extremely unusual. So unusual that it's never seen elsewhere.
Yeah. It's a made-up word.
Now, the word arsenokoitēs certainly had meaning to the specific community to which the letter it appears in is addressed, but it's not like a word that can be translated with 100% certainty. What we do know for certain is that parts of the word are taken from words that refer to "men" and "bed/sex." So I see why people translate it that way. The thing is, though, it occurs in two lists, and these lists consist of issues concerning idolatry and slave dealers. Hence, the context strongly indicates that it's condemning some form of exploitation involving men who have sex with males.
The larger historical/cultural context also indicates this. If you read ancient Greek texts, like, say, Plato's Symposium, you'll get a very distinct view of exactly which same-sex relationships were normalized in those days, and you'll also be somewhat horrified. Basically the idea was that mentors (adult men) would mentor teenager boys, and the teen boys would be receptive to the adult man having sex with them. Does it sound creepy and exploitative? Because it is!
Yes, even for the time period. It isn't unique. Julius Caesar--yes, THE Julius Caesar--had to deal with rumors that he was one of those boys to an older mentee (Nicomedes). Because clearly, being on the receiving end of male-male sex means that you're actually a woman, which as everyone knows is the WORST thing you could possibly be (sarcastic). Anyways, this type of exploitative bs was extremely common, and even back in those days, it was known to be somewhat, y'know, f*cked up.
The other time it's talked about in the NT is in Romans 1, during which the main theme of the passage is that giving yourself over to lust is a bad thing. Paul cites women having sex with women and men with men as examples of overabundance of lust. I think most Christians, even sex-positive ones like myself, would agree that being consumed with lust (or with anything) to where it controls you and you start losing control of your life is unhealthy.
Now, that said, you can make an argument that Paul's view seems to be that homosexual tendencies stem from over abundance. But we know that's not true nowadays. And that gets into how you read the Bible as a whole.
I love the Bible. I see it as God's word to humanity, divinely inspired. I also think that to truly see it as God's word, you have to acknowledge what it is.
It's literature.
That doesn't mean it's fiction or whatever. It just means that God chose literature as a means to communicate with human beings, and that means that God knew that the whole point of literature is that people wrestle with the concepts and debate the themes. It enhances my respect of Scripture and my love of God to do precisely this, to dig into the text and its historical context and discover the timeless themes. To call it "inerrant" where every word can be taken out of context and seen as a command does a disservice to the writers God used to craft poetry, histories, stories, measurements, and letters to friends. To view the Bible as God when the Bible itself says that Jesus is the Word of God personified misses the forest for the trees, the spirit of the law for the letter.
The other really cool thing that genuinely excites me about Christianity is that God works with human beings. Individuals, yes, but also communities. He works within cultures, too. Despite modern evangelicals claiming "No Compromise!" Scripture is FULL of God compromising with humans, bargaining with them, accepting that they are flawed and working with us. He worked within human limits so much he became one to save us from death; it's kinda the premise!
So, God working to deliver his very message to us through human writers of literature is kind of amazing to me, awe-inspiring. But that also means human beings are limited by what we know and our own time periods, our own cultures. And, that's okay. Yes, keep working to do better, but it means that we can have grace for ourselves and one another. Even now, when we know a lot more about the world as a whole, we are still very limited by our own experiences, cultures, and time period. There's this attitude that modernity has reached the stage of ultimate enlightenment and boy have we not.
Hence, yeah, Paul's writing in Romans 1 especially might be kinda homophobic by today's standards. The ultimate premise--don't let yourself be under anything else's control--is a good one, but him using homosexuality as an example as if potentially all of it emerges from lust is not exactly woke, but also not necessarily abnormal for his time period and his culture. He's a flawed human being, after all, but God himself still worked with him to do some pretty great stuff, and to write some pretty cool letters that still have beautiful resonance today (the love passage in Corinthians? That's him!)
(Also, funnily enough, people--even the strictest evangelicals--actually do accept this about Paul and culture when he's writing about slavery. Because Paul doesn't endorse slavery and instructs masters to be kind to their slaves and treat them well, but he doesn't outright say "you're sinning by owning slaves" whereas today we'd definitely think that. Funny how that doesn't apply to gay people though.)
Lastly, your mom sounds like my mom. She claims she thinks it's a sin because she believes the Bible says so, but she genuinely is happy for friends who are gay and happily married and wishes them well. It's like she feels she has to believe it, not that she actually does in her core. And of course that's not an excuse, and I would never tell a gay person they should not be upset with her. Even within our modern cultures, it can be hard to unlearn things too especially if you grew up in such environments.
But reading mlm or wlw stories is actually a great tool for helping people empathize with others. Fiction absolutely helped me leave the cult I was raised in. I don't think it's inherently weird at all; curiosity exists, empathy exists, good stories exist, and also there's something to be said about people who exist in cultures that are very non-accepting seeing themselves in stories where a relationship that might often be condemned is accepted. Even if the person is straight and cis, they might have parts of themselves they see as something society would hate, and so they see themselves in the characters.
Oh actually, the real last lastly. Jonathan and David. Er... yeah. I mean, yes, people do have extremely close, extremely intimate, brotherly platonic friendships, even between men. But their relationship is certainly up for interpretation considering they literally refer to each other as having love for them that is "better than that of women." The words and phrasing used mirror those used in like, the Iliad to describe Achilles and Patroclus, and Gilgamesh between Gilgamesh and Enkidu.
David also married Jonathan's sister and didn't treat her very well, but did go out of his way to protect Jonathan's own children. Also, there are several other passages where the ancient Hebrew used could contain sexual nuances, although it doesn't necessarily have to. You can't definitively state either way what it is--the writers clearly wrote in plausible deniability. Still, there's enough to raise eyebrows even within that old ancient context that, whether or not it was ever physical, Jonathan and David were not platonic.
(Personally? David invented the Disaster Bisexual archetype.)

Hi! My brain has been going on and on and on about this musical and I’d love to know some lore about what happened to the Adamandi characters in freshman year! It’s hinted at and talked about a couple of times and I’m really curious.
Hi!! I'm really glad you're enjoying Adamandi! Thanks for the great question as well :)
Disclaimer that this is from a writing perspective, and also a snapshot of how we thought about the characters at the very beginning of the production process (when we wrote this draft of the script). Our actors, director, and designers for the Princeton production all came up with ideas about what happened to the characters, so if you're interpreting the choreography or costumes or acting choices or something, you might get a different takeaway (which is part of the magic of a collaborative art form like theater!)
(Stage directions and info about the characters is under the read more!)
The primary source of information in the script for what the characters are doing freshman year is A Word to the Wise; the characters enter as freshmen and then age up to seniors throughout the course of the song. This is the stage direction we wrote for the beginning:
Tumblr media
The costume descriptions are meant to signify that when each of the characters begin their education at Address, they don't quite fit in. Quincy comes from an affluent family but is expecting to be met with prejudice by the rest of the student body, so they overcompensate by overdressing. Vincent is an international student from China, and they doesn't have the money or the knowledge of cultural norms in the United States to dress exactly like the other students yet, but they're trying their hardest. Ambrose hasn't found his niche with the sports extracurriculars and spends his time doing pottery instead; Beatrix doesn't care about fitting in yet, so she isn't consciously branding herself as a journalist (and hasn't yet changed her name to an Anglicized version). Portia isn't there because she is a Sophomore in the current day so she hasn't arrived at Ardess yet!
As the song progresses, their costumes change to signify their transformations into the jaded Seniors we know and love: Quincy dresses down to fit in, Vincent gets his long coat to show that he *isn't* trying to fit in, Ambrose and Beatrix get the signature clothing of their school clubs which are also their primary social groups, etc.
The first verse of A Word to the Wise (in theory) encompasses their freshman year, so the stage directions during the song show their social situations and relationships to other characters:
Tumblr media
Vincent and Ambrose gravitate together, as roommates and fellow visual arts enjoyers (I also have adopted Tobias' headcanon that this is because Ambrose is trying to "teach" Vincent about being a guy and wants to bond with him over gender things, since he's never met another trans person before). Quincy and Vincent haven't met yet- Quincy, excluded by their year for both their intellectual airs and their race, hangs out mostly with older students who indoctrinate them into Ardess' toxic achievement culture.
Tumblr media
Student 5 was played by the same actor as Adrian in the Princeton production, which fit this moment well; initially, Ambrose is trying to use his privilege to protect Vincent from the Marmorei's bullying, but it just means both of them are excluded. Beatrix gets invited but not socially accepted into the Newspaper club.
Tumblr media
At the end of their freshman year, Ambrose gets drawn in by the Marmorius Society and slowly stops hanging out with Vincent, leaving Vincent alone.
The second verse of A Word to the Wise loosely covers their second year at Ardess. Beatrix joins the Ardess Daily, and Ambrose officially gets tapped for the Marmorius Society (they're specified here because of the lyric about secret societies- the Marmorius Society is intended to be one of those secret-but-not-secret societies at Ivy League universities that people join by invitation.)
Tumblr media
At the end of their sophomore year and the start of their Junior year, Vincent is officially alone, as is Quincy, since both of their friends have more or less abandoned them. Beatrix is fighting for recognition in the Ardess daily, but she remains a Ghost Writer- unrecognized officially but used for her journalistic talent. Ambrose has decided to imitate the Marmorei as much as possible, and is carefully crafting his appearance to that aim- a harbinger of things to come.
The rest of the song covers Quincent meeting, the arrival of Portia, and Ambrose becoming the leader of the Marmorei, but I'll leave it there since you just asked about freshman year! The most significant things that happened Freshman year are Vincent and Ambrose being roommates and Beatrix getting headhunted for the Ardess Daily. Thanks for the question and I'm glad you're enjoying the show!

✤ — Universe: Vigil ✤ — Concept: The gang visits the warehouse containing the Kaedehara assets in order to search for a key piece in buried history | Irodori Festival (i) — Related readings: Interlude ✤ — Characters: Kazuha (platonic), Aether, Paimon, Xingqiu, Albedo, Venti, Sara, Ayaka A/N: Some parts are skipped in order to highlight the key points of the event! The next (ii) part will be the conclusion! Now let's get on to the road to fluff! EMBARRASSING KAZUHA-/slapped Vigil!MC is there to brighten up ze day! Characters are now referred to via names (not aliases!)
Tumblr media
The first objective as addressed by Kazuha is to ask for the whereabouts of the clan's assets. That entails the need to approach the Tenryou Commission.
He is initially apprehensive of the notion. Not because of him, but for his sibling, who he knows is previously acquainted with the mentioned commission's current leader.
[Name] is the least worried, though, to his minute surprise.
“There need not be any agita, dear brother. If this is the course to walk upon to understanding our family's secrets, then so be it.”
She's always been an equanimous individual but with the revelations—the blueprint for forging the swords, the tampering, and more—the group came across, he thought she'd be more expressive.
When Albedo propounded the idea that their great-grandfather was cognizant of the truth behind the Kaedehara decline, [Name] had no such look of surprise.
Kazuha thinks that she must've simply been processing it all in hence why she's silent. She's always a little silent with these matters, however, this time he's rather unsettled by it.
Maybe she's discomforted?
He told her to take a rain check and enjoy the festival instead of involving herself in possibly grim subjects but she'd been insistent on joining them.
He can't say no—and now they've arrived at the headquarters of the Tenryou Commission, where a familiar woman stands to greet them all.
Kujou Sara has an austere bite to her voice even if she means well. It can be denoted when she conversed with him about the location of the warehouse as well as the donation plans—with his sister's approval, of course.
But that slight rigidity of her tone lessens when she directs her attention to the other Kaedehara. A subtle lilt, but noticeable nonetheless.
“Lady [Name],” Sara coughs, eyes averted after addressing the woman in question.
Her uncharacteristic taper into uncertainty is a sight for those who are aware of how the Kujou carries herself; brimming with confidence.
For someone usually implicit, she's having a hard time trying to construct the words. An understandable thing, given she carried out the order of the Almighty Shogun that led to... a near-death experience.
Now, in usual cases, she won't bat an eye at this, but [Name] isn't exactly a stranger to her.
“The... Vision Hunt Decree, it's-”
“As my brother said, that's in the past now, isn't it, Sara?” smiles [Name].
They were once good acquaintances sharing the same journey to being accepted into the diplomatic affairs of the Tri-Commission.
The Tengu pauses, blinking as she's reduced to silence. She peers just a little closer, scrutinizing the curled lips as though searching for any ulterior motive or hidden undertones.
But she finds none.
She doesn't know what to expect, this is Kaedehara [Name], after all, the one person who can't seem to bear a grudge. The fact is acknowledged and still, Sara doesn't know whether to be guilty or not.
The silence concludes after a minute, right after she realizes that she has allowed it to extend for longer than necessary. Longer than normal.
“Yes,” there's an itch in her throat, “... It's in the past.”
[Name] claps once, the smile on her face perpetuated, “Then there's no significance in dwelling on it. We are all friends now, aren't we?”
The past heiress gains a handful of looks at this before said looks are transferred to Sara, who tongues the inside of her cheeks in thought.
'Friends' isn't something she associates herself with for duty has always been her utmost priority. She wasn't 'friends' with [Name] when they first met, either.
Ah, but that was before—[Name] said 'now'.
Anyone with a working brain can tell that it's an utterance meant to cease any remaining animosity. If there are any.
And when peace is extended willingly, who is she to deny it? Outside her sense of responsibility, Sara admits that she feels a little awful for the order she had to carry out to the shogunate.
Accepting this invitation of friendship is her only way of penitence that honors the mutual camaraderie she had for the past heiress years before.
So, with a grateful yet abashed nod, Sara nods again.
“Yes.”
Friends.
Tumblr media
Kazuha notices that a few soldiers stationed by the warehouse are the same ones he incapacitated months ago in his endeavor to strike them down before they could to his sister.
The winds, that previously blew admonitions his way, lack said warnings now. As implied a while ago, there is no need for enmity from this point onward.
He's glad that everyone thinks the same way. This is a festival, after all, and although what they discovered a while ago leads to a dark secret they've yet to uncover.... one must not forget to be merry.
It's a herculean thing, though, especially for him.
How can he wear a smile on his face when each second weighs his mind with probable answers pertinent to the clan's decline?
He's worried, to put it simply, and is thus unable to find himself be jolly.
“Hm... oh? Oh!”
His older sister, on the other hand, is different.
There's a round of bemused chuckles, but he doesn't turn around. At least, not until he's addressed specifically.
“Kazu, look!” how can he not humor his sister's enthusiasm?
He wishes he didn't, though.
Aether, Paimon, Ayaka, and Venti have piqued gazes drilling holes into him the second he gives them his undivided attention. The air is unsettling in a... dangerously embarrassing kind.
One that he realizes when his sister swings around some kind of wooden stick—no wait-
“Do you remember this 'wand'? You picked one up after learning of Visions, no?”
Kazuha's color drops to a pallid hue.
“It's a brush though, isn't it?” echoes Ayaka with a whisper, the lower half of her face hidden behind her fan. Her tone suggests that she's smiling.
Judging by the rest of those who are nearby—who are all giving smiles of their own—it isn't a far-fetched assumption.
“Oh, brush or not, he's been fascinated with it!” [Name] chatters away with a candescent smile, “He used to make up words for spells too! And I had to pretend to be an ugly witch-”
“You're far from one.”
The samurai's ear twitches at the bard's passing comment but says nothing. It's true, after all.
“-Those were the fun days!”
His stomach churns in mild embarrassment, heat beginning to spread all over his cheeks to revive the color. He wishes to put a stop to the flustering childhood tale, but how can he when his sister is grinning, her eyes stellar?
“Aside from avada..um,”
This is nothing, he tells himself inwardly as the lady in question bounds over. A samurai's pride-
[Name] points the brush at him. “Gang, gang, woo!”
-Is not swift to crumple. That is what he's meant to assure himself with.
The moment Paimon and Aether turn their backs to double over, Kazuha fixes a tight smile on his face. This is fine.
“So he had the potential to wield a catalyst!” Venti muses to a nodding Ayaka.
[Name] gasps at the thought before tugging at her brother's draping sleeve, “That's true, isn't it? Will you be able to channel anemo through this brush, then?”
Kazuha doesn't even have the time to answer because the lady is already slipping the brush into her long sleeve, a habit she seems to have shared with a certain Kamisato.
“I'll be storing this for a while,” she giggles then pulls him towards the section in the warehouse containing other childhood memorabilia.
Things that he genuinely will bat an eye over given the present circumstance, but he admits that their purpose for entering this place has been momentarily forgotten.
It's that easy for him to get swayed in the windy current, in other words, his only sibling.
“Here's your sword, too!” [Name]'s voice—that's nothing short of being voracious—has all but drawn in the rest of the group, who comes upon the scene with interested glints in their eyes.
True to her word, when Kazuha goes down to brush the pad of his thumb across the dusty sword, the shoddy carving of his name can be seen on the metal.
He smiles, the warmth on his cheeks no longer one of fluster, but genuine fondness. Who would've thought that it's still here?
“I'm afraid I'm being given too much credit,” really, that's just his way of saying that he's unused to the attention, “Yours is over there, nee-san.”
Now that has a lot of heads turning.
It's to be expected, really, no one—except for maybe Ayaka—has ever entertained the idea of [Name] with a sword. Especially since this is their first day of meeting her and no facet of her personality implies that she's one to handle the blade.
The sword is a little larger than his when he was a child, the hilt wrap a color of a faded [c]. When its user takes it in her hold, it is tiny and incongruous—somewhat unfitting.
“Interesting,” Xingqiu echoes.
Albedo nods, bright teal eyes taking in the surprising sight of the lady paired with a sword. “But you do not seem to carry yourself with the gait of a fighter.”
The alchemist realizes that it's a little misleading, for Xingqiu is also one, but his finesse disguises that. Hm, should he just say that [Name] appears like a total pacifist, instead?
“Oh, well, I didn't continue my lessons.” [Name] says simply, putting the sword back at its rack with a nostalgic look on her face.
Understanding the questioning looks on the others' faces, she laughs. “After a mishap, I merely realized that I'm not at all fond of it, you can say...” I don't like to fight because... is the undertone.
Somewhere, the Head of the Yashiro Commission chokes on his boba.
“Lady [Name] wouldn't dare raise a sword against Kazuha even if it was for a sparring session. Not even I.” Ayaka sighs, flicking her fan to a close. “A shame, only my brother had the opportunity to spar against her.”
Kazuha loses himself in the tides of his memory.
One where his good friend Tomoaki tried to land a joking ambush on [Name] and ended up a good meter away, unconscious with a concussion, his sword chipped.
“I- I don't think that's a good idea.. sparring.” [Name] laughs nervously.
The ronin shivers in a discreet manner. Yeah, he doesn't think it's a good idea either.
“But stiiiiill! [Name] sounds way cooler!” Paimon bursts, eyes wide, “Paimon's always known because Kazuha doesn't shut up about her when he got drunk after losing a bet-”
He burns a bright red and averts his gaze when [Name] swivels at him, stunned and flattered.
“But seeing you right now just really is riveting, don't you think so?” the floating pixie nudges her good companion, who gives a smiley nod.
No one denies it.
[Name] all but coos at it, cupping Paimon's cheeks with a sweet smile only to start pinching them, much to the latter's chagrin and cries.
“Paimon takes it back! Paimon takes it back! So uncool- that huuuuurts!”
“It's a blessing.”
“Venti, are you a masochist?”
[Name] turns to Kazuha after having her ears covered—for some reason—the grin on her face doubling. The ronin immediately backtracks, wondering if he's done the right thing.
Any second now and-
“You talked about me!” there it is. “My dear little brother, never would I have imagined! Oh no, no, I must do the same. Come to think of it, where's that embroidered maple leaf...”
Oh no. Abort, abort-!
“Nee-san-”
The swift hug seizes his breath away, literally, it's nearly bone-crushing. Swiftly afterward, she all but rushes towards a different location in the warehouse without visible hesitance.
Almost like she knows it like the back of her hand.
“Come, we can get back to searching in a minute, here are the storybooks that Kazu and I used to enact!”
For a second, it feels like [Name]'s deviation towards frivolous things is deliberate. Done out of goodness, yes, but with a hidden motive.
At least, that's what he is able to detect in the wind's course—and he can't believe it at first.
“Didn't this come from Liyue? It's such an old story!”
“That's Kazuha's favorite! Kazuha, come here! Let's revisit some of these!”
“An invitation to impersonate the characters? A wonder..”
“Uhh, Albedo, you do know we had a bad history of impostors with you...”
Kazuha shakes his head, dismissing his thoughts in the process as he makes his way toward the huddled group.
If his sister is hiding something from him and this is her way of averting him from it—at least until the inevitable arrives—then all the more reason to uncover why.
