what do you think about tsumiki, megumi and hair for the word for the drabble thing??
i think: post-canon au where everyone isn't DEAD but tsumiki was still gravely injured and she never really fully recovers
Tsumikiโ€™s hair is soft and silky as Megumi weaves it into a braid. He remains silent as he works, and Tsumiki twists her fingers together where they rest in her lap, like sheโ€™s itching to reach back and help out. But she still hasnโ€™t regained that much control of her hands, and the only braids she can manage are too loose for her liking. Itโ€™s been a long journey to get her to the point where she could even walk a few steps without collapsing. She still spends most of her time in the wheelchair Shoko procured for her, so she can at least leave her bed, though someone has to push her. Tsumiki doesnโ€™t blame him, but Megumi still feels as if itโ€™s his fault. Once the braid is complete, Megumi secures the end with a sparkly pink hair tie that was gifted to Tsumiki by Nobara. โ€œDone,โ€ he announces, stepping back. Tsumiki turns her head so she can get a better view of her hair in the mirror. Then, her gaze meets Megumiโ€™s through the reflection. โ€œItโ€™s wonderful. Thank you.โ€

hellow, quick question if I could yoink a little of your time good person.
So I am developing a game that centers around a main character who uses mobility aids. I have worked with my team to develop some game mechanics that I want to make sure are not going to end up being offensive in some way or a misrepresentation of disabled people. I am physically disabled myself but ive always been too scared to actually use mobility aids and nobody else on the development team uses mobility aids. So as the same person I am, I have gone on to tumblr (the obviously best choice for this matter) looking for opinions from people who use mobility aids. You do not have to awnser if you do not feel comfortable, or if you know of a better place to get insight on this matter that would be greatly appreciated.
So the main character is an ambulatory wheelchair user. And uses forearm crutches when not in a wheelchair. They have the super power to control metals which they use to create mobility aids for themselves on the go. One of their moves is to covert one of their crutches into a sword temporarily to attack enemys. They will also have a dash feature while using a wheelchair chair. The last main feature would be the main character having to use a wheelchair when their health gets too low.
thank you so much for any feedback that you are willing to provide I appreciate it very much!
Thanks again,
Your favorite disabled anon sibling
Oh this sounds so interesting!!! I hope it goes well for you!
I don't think I can give you a lot of advice, unfortunately, especially regarding crutches (I've used them briefly before but it's been a while), but I do have some thoughts on the concept as a whole!
So first thoughts:
Love the sword idea. I'm curious as to how the crutches turn into a sword (I'm imagining either a handheld sword, or a long sword), but I love it. That sounds amazing.
Wheelchairs can be used as a small bit of extra storage, like a little bag on the back or a basket on the bottom. It's kind like a separate storage system/storage expansion. Like in RDR2 where you can store things on the horse, but can't access said storage unless you're on/next to it.
Storage on wheelchairs is still a bit limited due to weight restrictions etc. (depending on how realistic you want to get, although I suppose that could be counteracted with the metal powers). Also, it's a bit limited when using forearm crutches in terms of being able to carry things.
Does the character travel across a world? Encounter different environments? Consider how the aids would be affected in different areas i.e. crutches don't work well on ice/slippery surfaces, wheels are slightly better but lose traction easily. Some wheelchairs don't do brilliantly in windy areas and sometimes struggle on grass and sand (unless designed for that environment).
Love the metal powers, that sounds so cool! I think, if possible, it would be interesting to see if they can upgrade/change their aids as/if their power grows over the game. I.e learning how to make different upgrades, like sand tires and ice ferrules (crutch feet).
Some people like to customise their aids to make them more personal, and crutches and wheelchairs aren't suited to every situation so it would be interesting to see how/if they could use their metal powers in this way.
What do they do when there isn't much metal, or do their aids sort of act like a personal supply? What if it breaks?
Do they have the option to use a wheelchair even when their health is not low?
Is their power affected in any way by their health and vice versa? Does it rely on their energy and/or stamina?
Because of their metal powers, can they disassemble their aids when not in use i.e. could they deconstruct/fold the crutches away when in the wheelchair and vice versa. I think that would be pretty cool. Give a whole new meaning to travel aids, and could make storage easier.
And some posts for consideration:
What wheelchair users want: Some good notes on this post. Basically being like "we also want unrealistic wheelchairs. Fast and the Furious wheelchairs. Mad Max wheelchairs." I love the dash function in the wheelchair, and if you were looking for other ideas this could be good to consider.
Accessible Wordbuilding: Some good advice on how to make a world more accessible for a disabled character.
Personally I think @cripplecharacters is an excellent blog to check out if you want more insight into writing mobility aid users, and disabled characters in general.
Writing Wheelchairs: This is a really good post (with examples!) about different types of wheelchairs, for different purposes and environments.
Crutch Pose References: A video showing different pose references for forearm crutch users.
Crutch Pose References 2 Sitting Edition: A video showing more crutch poses, sitting down this time.
Character Example: If you're looking for examples of cool characters who use wheelchairs and forearm crutches together, can I direct your attention to Charlie Webber/Sun-Spider, a Spiderman with EDS!
--
If anyone else has anything to say on this please just add on.
Ahh this sounds so cool! I really hope it works out for you!! Good luck!

Diabetic OC Ask Game
I haven't ever seen any ask games revolved around this so I thought I'd make one myself.
When was your oc diagnosed?
Does your oc celebrate their diaversary?
Does your oc have any Diabetic friends?
Has your oc had mostly good or bad experiences with endos?
Does your oc use a CGM? If so which one?
Is your oc on a pump? If so which one?
Was your oc affected in any way by Animas shutting down?
Where does your oc prefer to put pump sites (or sensors if they have a CGM)
Does your oc wear a pump pack/bag thing or just put the pump in a pocket? Something else?
Does your oc decorate their pump with anything like pumppeelz? What style of sticker do they usually like?
Does your oc use decorative sensor covers to hold on their censor (or site) better?
What annoying stereotype or bad joke does your oc hate the most?
Has your oc been to any Diabetes camps?
Does your oc handle their site changes/sensor changes/injections by themselves or does someone help them?
Does your oc prefer to deal with lows or highs?
What candy does your oc prefer when low?
Has your oc ever been to a walk event? (Like JDRF)
Was your oc the only kid at school to be Diabetic? If not, how did they get along with the other Diabetic kids?
Did your oc's parents do The Great Pumpkin during Halloween? (Instead of eating all your Halloween candy you'd "give" it to The Great Pumpkin and pick out a toy instead)
Has anyone ever touched your oc's pump/tubing/site/sensor/CGM without permission?
Is your oc mostly responsible with their Diabetes or tends to take more risks?
Does your oc have any favorite characters who are also Diabetic?
Did your oc ever name their pump?
Does your oc ever have any odd food cravings when low?
Does your oc prefer a more customized bag for their kit? (meter, test strips, lancet) or just the standard plain one they usually come with by default
How many pump replacements has your oc gone through if at all?
Is your oc pretty prepared for lows every time they go out or not?
Does your oc have a Diabetic Alert Dog?
Does your oc have a good support system to help them with their Diabetes?
Does your oc have a Rufus bear or Lenny the lion? Some other Diabetic stuffed animal?
Blank space to put anything you want to add.

โ€œI donโ€™t know what youโ€™re talking about Bea.โ€ He says, taking much longer than strictly necessary to transfer into the car. Bea is staring at him when he finally looks up from fastening his seatbelt. Thereโ€™s a mischievous smile on her face, and Henry can feel his ears burning.

ALSO LOAM I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT LOAM <3
For this bingo
Tumblr media
"my special little meow meow. my every waking thought. my dearest blorbo" they are currently my favourite character and. ok I'm going to use this space to talk about the big thing with regards to my thoughts on him that unsurprisingly the bingo doesn't have a space for; there is a lot about my own experiences I see in her. It's not all exactly the same, but there's enough there to make them latch onto them super hard. He's super well written and her motivations are so interesting, great character all round.
"*gently holds*" God Loam is another character who is dealing with so much. Also this is a general expression of hi I love this characrer.
"they have done nothing wrong, ever, in their life" again this is more jokey than anything but listen, I fucking love him.
"genuinely. what the fuck" similarly to the Rashmi one I'm using this to expression the affectionate sentiment of this character has so many issues (the issues are the entire appeal)
"will somebody give them a fucking hug jesus christ" they have dealt with so much ableism and transphobia and so yeah the sentiment here is definitely relevant
"they could pour soup in my lap and I'd apologise to them" Using this one pretty loosely as I try and convey the sheer extent to which I care about her
"they are literally so based" I LOVE THEM THEY'RE SO BASED AND COOL

Vic!!
First impression: I saw him first in the toon. I thought he was kind of cool but didn't have a lot of very strong opinions.
Impression now: I think he is very important to Teen Titans and pretty savvy at reading people albeit not always good at transforming that into making decisions that people like :P but he's a character with a lot of perception and care for others across continuities.
Favorite moment: anytime vic is interacting with the disabled kids. here (link) is a good one.
Idea for a story: I think Vic should tutor alinta! DC make Titans academy an actual school let us see the titans new kids being tutored or mentored by the old ones!
Unpopular opinion: his friendship with gar is overrated like it becomes the only thing people can think of for him and he's so much more than 'gar's friend' it makes the writers forget about his other friends.
Favorite relationship: Him and Kory ๐Ÿฅบ I like that they're on the same side of the debate (let's go rescue our friends/ being impatient w/ assholes) side often and its funny when vic is like to kory "This time i'm gonna agree with you" when 'm liked dude you were agreeing with her the whole time.
Favorite headcanon: You know, I think Vic does have a handicapped parking sticker, even tho he jokes about her power being better than his when tamara brags about her wheelchair placard. the reason is: Vic is disabled. and if he has any issue with his limbs, he is going to be more mobility impaired than the average able bodied person (as opposed to having a greater mobility than the average able bodied person).

A - c!Tubbo
A: Alleviate - How do they go about relieving persistent physical pain?
So c!Tubbo deals with chronic pain and has for quite a long time now. His body has been through a lot. He used to self-medicate for both emotional and physical trauma with alcohol. He stopped drinking after he adopted Michael though, so for a while it was nothing. He was really scared of using any painkillers out of fear of addiction for a while, but Ponk eventually talked him into having Ranboo supervise the medication dosages if he didn't trust himself and he eventually realised that it was a lot easier to function when he wasnt in constant, although mostly manageable pain. Ponk was also the first person to recommend he start using a wheelchair on days where pain in his leg wounds, specifically the ones that contracted on his foot and made it difficult to walk, got bad, and a cane as an everyday mobility aid. Tubbo had gotten really used to repressing his need for rest and his physical pain so it took a while for him to accept it was something necessary on any but his absolute worst pain days, but he came around eventually. He also immediately realised he could make many improvements to wheelchairs. Maybe they could even be electric! He's working on it.

Happy Blorbo Blursday! Which one of your characters would benefit from modern medication the most? If your characters are modern, what medication would help them that they're not on?
Oh, thank you for the ask! Great question, and the answer is easy! (Perhaps an obvious trigger warning, but I think a necessary one.)
Trigger Warning: Medical Trauma, Serious Illness.
If Marianne Stafford from Vogeltje lived today, she would be diagnosed with Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and POTS, but, unfortunately for her, she lives in 1788.
Some of her descendants - including Rosie Geelen from "She Has No Name" (WIP title subject to change!) - have been diagnosed with it, as Rosie in particular lives in the 2020s.
Marianne has a beautiful eighteenth century wheelchair, built for her by her boyfriend (later husband) Gijs Geelen, but their great-great(etc) granddaughter Rosie has a modern lightweight wheelchair with an aluminium frame and power assist! Rosie also has a coordinated care plan under London hEDS specialists, so she sees a physiotherapist to help with her joint problems (Marianne suffered from these all her life, but thanks to modern medicine, Rosie will not), and has had surgery to repair a bowel prolapse (which would not have been possible in Marianne's era). POTS is now treatable!
Although Marianne's life was made easier by her socio-economic circumstances (the daughter of aristocrats, ward to King George III and Queen Charlotte of England, married to a carpenter-luthier, but keeping royal favour because spoilers!), the best physician in the country didn't know how to help her; there was no diagnosis to give her at the time, much less a prognosis to help her know what to expect. As things turned out, Marianne was still severely ill and in a lot of pain for most of her life. We don't know how many people lived with EDS before it was first recognised properly, but we know most of them had far fewer resources to help them than Marianne Stafford did. They are the people who would benefit most from modern medicine.
I have a similar illness to hEDS, Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder. It may even be the same illness, or I may have been misdiagnosed. There had always been something wrong with me when I was growing up, but HSD as a diagnosis didn't exist when I was a child; I spent more than two decades with my body literally falling apart, with no idea what was happening or why. In 2018 I was misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia, and believed I would always be sick and in pain (we still don't know what to do about fibromyalgia but we have just discovered it's autoimmune, so leaps are being made in research all the time). I followed the recommendations to exercise gently and rest when necessary, but never felt much improvement in my condition. Fast forward to 2021, when a colleague sent me to her physiotherapist, and he spotted the signs of hypermobility that had previously been missed (or perhaps ignored, I'm not sure). That triggered a chain of medical investigations that confirmed HSD (explaining the joint problems, manageable with physiotherapy) and hypothyroidism (explaining the fatigue, treatable with HRT). I also know I have to be careful about my skin as it's fragile, and I can loosely predict the problems I might have in the future, using information about hypermobility that is now easily available on the internet.
The internet would have helped Marianne (and her physician!) so much! Every day I see people with conditions like mine and hers talking to each other online. I've been part of these conversations and I've been able to learn from and teach others who are going through the same things as I am. It's not medicine, but it is a miracle, and it would have made Marianne's life so much easier.
I'm excited to see how research into hEDS, HSD and other chronic illnesses develops. I only wish that we could take that knowledge back in time and help people who suffered in the past, who wouldn't need to suffer now.

โญ๏ธ (but can I specify RWRB?)
Hi!!! Thank you so much for the ask! And yes, I will absolutely do one of my RWRB fics!
Okay, so I will try not to make this post too long, but โ€˜tell me about your writing choicesโ€™ is a question that I am basically BEGGING everyone to ask about anything Iโ€™ve written.
In my most recent fic โ€˜The Next Step Is All You Can Takeโ€™ I wrote probably one of my favorite couple of chapters Iโ€™ve ever written and it also draws on a lot of my own experiences as well.
My absolute favorite thing to do when writing fanfic is to take something from canon and kind of 'twist' it slightly or 'mirror' it in some way so that it feels similar, or has the same vibe, but it happens in a different way or in a different setting.
This is what I was doing with Chapter 4 and the very beginning of Chapter 5 in this fic. It's meant to mirror the Kensington scene in the book in many ways.
In the context of my fic, Alex has yet to truly allow himself to process what's happened to him and he's desperate to focus on anything at all besides confronting the reality of his blindness. Hence the title of the chapter 'Drowning' which is also a nod to the line in the book about no one seeing how hard he's kicking underwater.
Much like the Kensington scene in the book, Alex and Henry are in an incredibly charged moment where they are both in rather different places emotionally. There's a push and pull in both a literal sense and a metaphorical sense. In the book, Alex is uncertain if this is the last night he'll have with Henry ever, and in my fic, Alex is uncertain about the trajectory of his life which has now been irrevocably altered. In some places I even took lines straight from the book and I really enjoyed using those moments to portray a very different scene, and yet still keep certain elements of the tone from the original.
My absolute favorite part to write was the moment that Alex finds his glasses on his nightstand and as he crushes them in his fist and that transitions straight into the moment that came almost word for word from the book where they grapple around on the floor for a moment and then Henry lifts Alex onto the bed. (There is also a very vague homage to one of my favorite movies ever, Ice Castles, in this chapter)
Where I've diverged from canon is the reason it's happening and the aftermath, as well as what it represents for Alex in my version of the story. Basically, Alex can't keep pretending he's fine anymore. He never let anyone see him with his glasses because he doesn't want anyone to know how much he needs, and when he's holding them in his hand in that moment, he has to confront the reality of how much his blindness is going to change his life. And that's a common thread throughout the story as Alex learns to let people help him, but also how to set his own boundaries and find a healthy and realistic balance between what he can do for himself and what he needs help with.
The grief that comes with the realization of how much your disability has irrevocably altered your life is something I struggle to come to terms with even to this day. And while my personal story differs from how I've written Alex in this fic, the emotions he feels and navigates in this scene, and throughout the story, are mine. It's a chapter where Alex feels like he's being dragged beneath the waves, because that's what it felt like for me. And the story as a whole and it's overarching theme of 'take it one step at a time' is pulled straight from my own experience of using exactly that advice to talk myself down in some of my worst moments.
So even though it's heavy and it's sad and I might have cried a little (a lot) while writing it, there was something so cathartic about it and it's a section that I'm super proud of writing and I really hope it resonated with my readers.
