i genuinely think it should be illegal to purposefully give someone food or drink with something they didn't ask for. no adding dairy milk, no lying about gluten, no giving regular vs diet soda, no meat in vegetarian/vegan food, none of it. that shit can make people so sick, and in some cases its literally life threatening. even if it doesn't make someone ill it's still a huge violation of their boundaries. there's a million reasons why people have dietary restrictions and it is not your job to deem them worthy of accomodating or not

still trying to sort through the layers of this ableism & antifatness but it’s particularly painful that society treats eating gluten-free as something rooted in a desire for weight loss when
i gained more weight in the year after figuring out i have celiac than any other year of my life
including going up two shirt sizes
& going from being read as (small)fat but not having any access issues around size separate from mobility aids to being outside the bounds of straight sizing
because my body can absorb nutrients now
& for most people who ‘need’ to be eating gluten-free, you will gain weight!! & we, including those of us who were already fat, should be given space to celebrate that!! hallelujah that my body is still here to grow!!

wait ok so technically this is for my fellows with dietary restrictions (specifically celiac disease in my case), but i guess it could also branch out to people with physical disabilities as well, and i'm curious.
reblog for bigger sample sizes pls :)

OKAY! I admit that YouTube has been addicting with the plethora of reptile videos!
It started with research for certain details of cute reptile facts (you know why). I came upon the concept of weird reptile pets and then ended up 'aw'ing over an Emotional Support Alligator an old man has bonded with him in Cheetos and chicken legs. It's so wholesome!
And then I was searching the depths of the chocolate and alligator debate.
Like, there is a long-standing argument of whether or not alligators can consume chocolate safely, and the debate is topsy turvy with cases of other alligators/crocodiles who have lived off chocolate-containing foods and SURVIVED, but that tells me nothing about immediate or long-term effects!
Like, I know they literally can eat anything from how I've seen some go after car tires (don't ask), but this whole thing has been setting off my brain for possibilities in how this applies to Bowser (and Koopas in general).
They're reptile-ish turtle-dragon-things that seem to have some gator-croc features. SO-
Let's talk about dietary restrictions, and how that can translate to the split of palates between Bowser and Luigi!
Canonically, Bowser is omnivorous, with the same tastes as humans if the cookies, meat, and other various foodstuffs seen in-game and official art are to be believed.
But otherwise? There isn't any info that would dispute the need to eat rocks like a chicken to grind food in a special organ (for Bowser to have an excuse for why he eats otherwise questionable objects in "Bowser's Inside Story"). I would LOVE to see Luigi be utterly flummoxed by the sight of Bowser taking bites out of boulders or casually shoveling in gravel!
There isn't a direct dispute for Bowser to not also include insects to that diet, like a lot of small lizards do! People also eat insects (usually crickets, spiders, and the rare scorpions), but I assume that either Luigi would be too squeamish to watch any Koopa eat it, or maybe make the effort to accept it (like, using Cricket Flour for baking)!
There is no fact that goes against Bowser actually liking raw/scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs, which he explicitly states to hate in "Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door"! Heck, it could be like Movie!Mario's thing with mushrooms, but in a way where Luigi will thoughtfully accommodate him for family-cooked meals!
Anyone could also fit in some restrictions for Luigi! Like, for sickfic/angst reasons, maybe an allergy that shows up when he does his best to eat 'normally' at first but has it backfire (as things do for him)! And Bowser could encourage him (yell at him with love) to ask for alternative food because gosh dang it Luigi you are now bedridden-!
Anyone could also give the Koopa's a high metabolism, so calorie-packed meals are the norm and the constant craving of a lot of food can add to some kitchen bonding with high-calorie meals! And the fact that some Italian dishes (i.e. not all) are considered calorie dense can be a thing to add to the roster of meals that don't overload the Koopa palette!
Just- a lot of things to do with food! In a fluffy way!

The Fig (Food Is Good) app, an app that helps you check whether foods meet your dietary restrictions and/or allergies, just added a feature I requested: you can now create multiple profiles for friends/family members to help when you're shopping for a group meal!
A vegan, a celiac, and an IBS-sufferer walk into a bar,,,,
(this new feature is a paid feature, but if you haven't played with Fig before I recommend downloading it and playing around with the profile customization for single/free user, because really extensive customization is possible! and if you like it and you know a bunch of people you eat with who have with food restrictions, consider the subscription for the multiprofile option.)
This app is actively being developed! see also I requested this feature and it came to pass! also if you can't afford the subscription but it would be useful to you, there's a button in the sign up process to request financial aid, which i think is pretty punk rock of them

Anyway anyone else get really annoyed that the list of allergies goes “peanut allergy, shellfish allergy, gluten allergy/celiac, lactose intolerance”
People with dairy allergies exist! We’re here! We don’t “uh oh I ate some cheese my tummy hurts, I’m gonna keep doing it 😳” but get sick. Sick like any other allergy, it ranges but it’s bad! Idk it just really upsets me why is an intolerance grouped in with allergies over the actual fucking allergy?
Look the memes and notoriety are funny but it annoys me because it makes it harder. “No or I die” I have to almost over explain and prove that it’s real??? If someone says they have a peanut allergy no one goes “oh peanut butter intolerance you still have a little right?”

Not dog related but I know there are kitchen savvy folks with dietary restrictions so putting it out here.
I'm experimenting with homemade ice cream to share with my coworkers. My traditional batch is working out pretty well. But I'm also trying to make something my one coworker who can't do regular dairy can enjoy as well. Her go to milk substitute is Ripple which is plant based.
Anyone have tips for using that and still getting soft/creamy ice cream?
*Just in case this post breaks containment from my lovely mutuals/followers - Yes, I'm making a separate batch for one person's specific needs. No, I don't want to just buy her something and call it done. It's important to me to be able to provide her something homemade same as I am doing for everyone else. Be kind or be silent. :)

Hmm, ok. I think it's finally time to accept that I have to stay peanut free. Any format. They need to go.
Anyhoo....Not gonna cry about it. It is what it is.
A very steady day. One walk and two short, medium effort home workouts.
Upper body strength after my walk. Then full body barre before lunch.
I was going to do something later, but the motivation wasn't there, for a few different reasons.
Still waiting for my omnipod/dexcom insulin pump loop system to settle down. No progress whatsoever, it seems.
That is definitely impacting both my physical and mental energy. Not exactly helping my emotional energy either.
But I keep tiptoeing through. I won't accept any other choice.
I've stuck pretty close to my macro targets, even with an extra (totally emotionally driven) snack. Mixed nuts (the ones I'm ok with), olive oil spray and sea salt. That's now my regular breakfast from tomorrow, unless i think of something else. That extra snack obviously wasn't my breakfast, lol!
The pic is from those final peanuts this morning.
I've got to put myself back into "take each day as it comes" mode.
Other "life stuff" going on right now, too. So I'm having to acknowledge this isn't a time to push.
I'm really glad I'm halfway through my 100 mile challenge to support the MIND mental health charity.
I'm seriously lacking donations, which saddens me, but I'm looking at it as a personal achievement interest, and the knowledge that I'm doing what I can to help out and show support for an excellent cause. I've also donated money myself.
Let's see what tomorrow brings....

gluten & dairy intolerant and sick as shit: a “what the fuck do i eat?” primer
most gluten-free, dairy-free (hereafter abbreviated gf/df) recipe sites are so clearly written by people who have the energy to cook - consistently enough that they don’t need to worry about food spoiling - and money for tons of ingredients and equipment. as a person who’s bedridden a large portion of the time, this is useless as shit!
so here’s how i’ve kept myself alive the past 6+ months for other sick folks looking for a realistic starting point, in descending order from least to most energy required. in addition to being gf/df, i can’t eat raw vegetables or red meat, need to avoid/minimize seeds and artificial sweeteners, and try to minimize soy when possible, so these suggestions align with that.
as always, check the labels first! other folks feel free to add on with any suggestions!
meals
gf cereal - chocolate gf off-brand rice krispies are a go-to low-energy meal that can also be a snack
bananas with peanut butter
rice cakes are my best friend - they’re like 4x cheaper than gf bread and the easiest option i’ve found so far. my go-to is rice cake, vegan cheese, 4 slices of deli chicken, a pinch of salt; 4 of those makes a filling meal for me
gf toast with peanut butter or butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar
gf oatmeal in the microwave, seasoned with brown sugar and cinnamon. if you need to avoid cross-contamination, make sure to only purchase oat products that are certified gluten-free; they can easily get cross-contaminated from wheat in the field
tofu scramble - season with curry powder, garlic and onion powder, chili powder, and salt. add whatever veggies you want - i do (frozen or canned) spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes
gf chicken nuggets - if i have a little extra energy i’ll make a vegan ranch using a vegan mayo base
gf/df pizza - they’re expensive. i’m sorry.
gf/df nachos - vegan mince with gf taco seasoning, olives, vegan cheese, corn tortillas chips. for a lower-energy version, i melt vegan cheese on tortilla chips in the microwave and add torn-up deli chicken and seasoning
frozen gf fries - plain or with vegan cheese sauce, vegan cheese, and/or vegan mince (seasoned with garlic powder, chili powder, paprika, and salt)
rice with ingredient - canned beans and/or peas; canned tuna cooked with curry powder; frozen edamame and canned salmon cooked with gf (tamari) soy sauce, honey, and chili powder
fish tacos - frozen fish cooked with cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, pepper; cilantro-lime rice; avocado if you’re up for peeling/cutting; vegan cheese; corn tortillas
snacks
pre-popped popcorn
tortilla chips
gf/df cookies
gf/df chips (crisps) - in the UK, Seabrook is a great gf brand, and the classic ones are df as well
gf/df protein or granola bars
gf/df ice cream
tangerines, clementines, etc - they last longer than other fruits

Here’s some positivity for headmates with dietary restrictions that differ from the body’s!
In systems, headmates can have all sorts of individual differences between them. Some headmates may have more extreme allergic reactions, practice different religions, have different morals, and a host of other things that make each member unique. This post is for headmates with dietary restrictions that differ from the body’s or from the rest of their system!
🥦 Shoutout to headmates who have made the personal choice to be vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, or follow some other dietary guidelines!
🌶 Shoutout to headmates who are symptom holders for particular allergies, and have mild, moderate, or severe allergic reactions to certain foods that the rest of the system doesn’t struggle with!
🥕 Shoutout to religious headmates whose dietary restrictions are tied to their faith or spirituality!
🥒 Shoutout to headmates who don’t like certain foods that the rest of the system enjoys!
🌽 Shoutout to autistic headmates who avoid certain foods because their taste or texture is a bad sensory experience!
🥬 Shoutout to introjects who have dietary restrictions due to their sources having those same restrictions!
🍅 Shoutout to headmates who are otherkin and try to follow a diet close to what their kintype would eat!
🫑 Shoutout to headmates who are symptom holders for IBS, gastro-intestinal distress, or other stomach issues who have dietary restrictions as a result!
🍖 Shoutout to headmates who eat meat while the rest of their system is vegan or vegetarian!
Individual headmate experiences can be so unique and diverse, and are worth celebrating! Whether everyone in your system has their own set of dietary needs or just one or two members, know that the choices regarding the food you eat deserve to be respected. So please eat without guilt, make lifestyle choices that reflect who you are, and continue to learn and grow together as a system! Thank you for reading, and have a great day!

Resturaunts need a "kids menu" with larger portions for those of us with certian kinds of dietary restriction.
It's not fussieness
It's not hating "flavour"
It's a fucking dietary restriction the we should not be mocked or punished for.
