After I watched HezuNeutral's video and the more I think about it, yeah Hezu was right about Vivziepop lying in this tweet right here.
Tumblr media
Notice how Vivziepop says that Hazbin "always" had a heavier emphasis on women-led stories saying as if it was always the case, but it hasn't. She's completely forgetting that she made two comics centered around the male main characters, Alastor and Angel Dust
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An entire music video centered around Angel Dust
Tumblr media
And she never attempted to expand on any other female characters with the only ones we know so much about being Charlie and Vaggie. Despite Niffty being part of the main cast, she doesn't have much going for her. Hell Cherri Bomb has more depth than Niffty does, but I believe that's only because she's around Angel Dust most of the time she's on-screen in both Addict and the Pilot.
Vivziepop is also forgetting the fact that Velvette exists. Velvette is part of the Three Vs who are the main antagonists of the show and is female. Despite this though she is barely even shown with her last animated appearance being from the pilot. There wasn't a teaser that shows her alongside Vox and Valentino, but there was just a teaser of Vox and Valentino both of those characters being male.
Tumblr media
Who has made the most appearances out of the Three Vs? Valentino, who is a male character. Who has made the least appearances out of the Three Vs? Velvette, who is a female character.
Valentino even has his own fanmade music video that Vivziepop liked and who's included in said music video? Vox. Unfortunately, I've rewatched the music video a couple of times, and Velvette only made two appearances in the song. Her second appearance can be easily missed if you don't look closely.
Also, Velvette has the least amount of standalone merch out of the Three Vs. What I mean by "standalone" is that there isn't any merch consisting of that singular character. In Velvette's case, she only has three pieces of standalone merch.
A Tumblr user who goes by Demonic Dear brought up great questions about the recent merch sale mainly regarding Chaz. Why does he get all this merch and other characters like Moxxie's Mom who was introduced and died in the same episode don't? Why does Chaz have as much merch as one of the main female characters of HH already? Who I am referring to in the second question is Niffty.
Chaz has one suggestive mug, two playmats with one of them being suggestive, and a pin. Keep in mind all of this merch is for a dead character that's male. Niffty doesn't have that much merch despite her being part of the main cast of HH, but the new Spring Sale did show a new keychain of her....before her redesign. Come to think of it literally all of her merch consisted of her old design, what's going on with that? But, why is Vivziepop giving a dead character just as much merch as she is one of her main female characters for HH? Well Chaz is a horn-dog male character so that's most likely the reason why and you know this fandom really loves their sexy demons with no depth. All and all the more you think about Vivziepop's numerous tweets regarding criticism, it's noticeable that she just types this shit without thinking about what she's typing or contradicts herself either by her actions or words. But anyway, that's all I got for today. Thank you all for reading and I hope you all have a nice day!

My Love is mine, All mine (18+) (CEO! Daemon Targaryen x Female Reader) (Non Canon Modern AU)
Series Masterlist
Chapter 1
Summary: You dive down the memory lane and think about how you first met the love of your life, your husband, Daemon.
Warning: 18+, smut, mention of rape, insecurities.
Note : This will probably be the most boring thing i have ever written..you are warned. Expect 3-5 parts (or I don't really know yet 😂)
Tumblr media
“Ugggh i don't want to be here” Shelly mumbled next to you so you gave her a side eye, she never wanted to be there. There were a couple of guys demonstrating a product targeted towards women, a decorative ring designed for women that could potentially save their life while they were out clubbing or about doing anything literally,
At first look, the ring looked like any other ring, adorned with jewels and glimmering in the light. Although upon closer inspection you could see that it had a hidden compartment under the fake diamond stud.
Inside the compartment was a red button, a single press of which would send an emergency alert to the local authorities as well as several emergency contacts on your phone, not just that but it also shared the precise location on a live moving map.
There was a group of women watching the presentation take place so you took Shelly as you were really intrigued by the product and as well as the guy giving the demonstration.
His name was Daemon, Daemon Targaryen, he was the tallest guy you had ever laid your eyes on, 6’3 to be astute, he had bronde hair- a mix of brown and blonde, and the most intense eyes you had ever witnessed, he was charming and charismatic and it wasn't like you to get attracted so quickly so even you were surprised by your own behaviour that day.
“Sooooo ummm no offense but how does it work? Is it battery operated?” A girl asked him so he picked up the ring and walked towards her,
“Don't worry I won't pop the question to you” he joked and it made everyone laugh including you. He showed her the 2.0 mm charging point inside the ring so she nodded her head..
“But what if the creeps out there recognise the ring?” Another girl asked him so he went back to the table and picked up another ring from the box..
“They won't..every purchase comes with a fresh design.. see for yourself” he gave her the ring so she checked it out and gave it back to him with a nod of approval.
The longer he talked about it though the more people started to leave, people were not interested in buying the ring even though it seemed like something everyone should own, they kept leaving until it was just you and Shelly. That's when Shelly mumbled something in your ear and ran off as well.
You watched Daemon sighing, there was a defeated look on his face that you noticed immediately but since you were still there he didn't stop the pitch. As you raised your hand up he gave you a smile.
The kind of smile that you knew would only bring you trouble..
“How long it stays active after charging..what is the duration?’ you asked him so he looked at another guy with him that you came to know later was his cousin Aemond.
“We are working on it..it stays for 10 hours for now but we are definitely trying to make the duration longer without comprising the size of it”
“10 hours? That's good enough to find someone if they're in trouble or missing” He gave you a smirky smile as you said that. “So are you selling them?” You asked him and you could tell he was excited by the prospect of leaving this place with at least one sale.
“Of Course..it's 10 euros only” he told you so you pulled out your wallet from the purse.
“Cool I'll take three..one for me..for my friend and my mom”
“Great” he clapped his hand together in excitement before he spoke again “We've also developed an app that will allow you to sync the ring with your phone. Once the connection has been established, it will not be interrupted even if your phone gets misplaced or powered off.” he informed you so you nodded.
“All this for 10 euros though? That's..very affordable..do you even make any profit?” you asked him a genuine though a bit intrusive question so he smiled politely.
“That's not a priority at the moment..goal is to give every woman a chance to be safe” he said in big words that you could have interpreted as a marketing gimmick but when you had learned the reason behind why he had invented this thing, you had realized his words were not empty that day.
He made you walk with him towards the station and Aemond excused himself as he wanted to get a drink, it was a warm day in Birmingham that day.
Once he was done cutting the receipt , you grabbed the rings and wished him good luck with the startup but as you were about to walk past him you heard him calling your name again and your heart skipped a beat.
“Yes?” You turned around to look at him so he hesitated for a moment before he stepped towards you,
“Ummm apologies if this sounds inappropriate but how old are you?” you gave him a smile as he said that. You'd pass out if he was intending to ask you out on a date.
“Just short 21” his face fell down as you said that so you crossed your arms..
“Ohhh” he let out a sigh, there was a look of disappointment plastered all over his features.
“Why did you ask? ” You couldn't help but let out a nervous giggle so he gave you a tight lipped smile.
“I .. nevermind.. thanks for buying our product..call us if you face any difficulties..stay safe yeah??”
You felt disheartened as he said that as for once in your life you were really hoping a man would ask you out, for once you found yourself being more into a man then he was into you.
Later on you had learned that the only reason he didn't ask you out that day was because he thought you were too young for him, he was twenty eight at the time and he didn't want to come across as a predator and a creep by dating a young girl in college. That went against everything he stood for.
But perhaps it was meant to be with you two because..Eight years later you were sitting in a restaurant waiting for him to get there so you could celebrate your four year wedding anniversary and he was late, as he always was at times but you understood that, he was a busy man.
What started as a small, humble operation was now a multimillion-euro company, all thanks to the vision and determination he had shown to make the world a safer place for women.
“God I'm sorry sweetheart” his voice made you snap out of your thoughts so you got up and hugged him tightly, the expensive cologne on the side of his neck comforted you immediately,
“It's okay..I just got here” you mumbled softly so he puckered his lips and shook his head.
“Liar”
He kissed you and made you sit back down again, at times like this he felt like a complete arse, sure he was doing this for both of you but he often felt as if he was making you feel neglected on occasions when he should have been with you, especially after everything you had done for him.
You were there for him when he had nothing in his name, when he was that eccentric bloke that went to women's colleges, workplaces and schools to sell a ring that nobody believed in at first..he had seen the worst of the life with you and in those moments he had decided that he was going to give you the best this world could offer you, he doused you in lavish gifts and fancy lifestyle, foreign trips and what not but deep down he knew all you needed from him was him. Just him.
After dinner and a few drinks as you both reached home you already had your hands on each other, that was one thing that never changed in your relationship with him, he was as passionate with you as he was the first night he had taken you like that, with his success and fame came several temptations on his way and you were not the most secure person, the older you got the more insecure you became of your looks, especially because of how he was desired so greatly by women younger than you but he made you feel as if you'd always be the only woman he'd desire in this way.
“Gods i have missed you babylove” he whispered in your ear before he trailed his lips down to your neck, he was on a work trip for a week and had just returned yesterday so the feeling was definitely mutual.
You loosened his tie while he unzipped your dress and picked you up to sit you down on the dresser, your fingers quickly worked the buttons of his shirt while his lips latched onto your neck.
“You're lovely you know that right? I don't think I told you how stunning you looked today”
You smiled sheepishly as he cupped your cheeks and kissed you while he murmured sweet honey into your ears.
“You did…twice actually” he smiled before he slipped your underwear down your legs, at times like this he couldn't really contain himself. Especially when he was away from you for days, the urge to get back to you and fuck you senseless would always eat him up. He had met you for the first time when you were just twenty one, and he always remembered you because you believed in his invention, you bought that ring that day and that memory was seared in his heart.
But you were too young for him, too innocent, so he didn't make his move that day. However the fate wasn't allowing him to move on from that encounter so it kept bringing you back to him until he had given into this feeling.
Next morning you woke up feeling tired but relaxed at the same time as he had completely worn you out. Nights like this were really affirming for you for several different reasons. He had already left for work, you grabbed your phone and called him but it went straight to voicemail so you put the phone down and sighed. Since you had your day off and had nothing much to do today you decided to call Shelly and your other friends to go for a brunch date.
Daemon was tired too that day and all he wanted to do was get back home early for once and surprise you since it was your day off. However he stepped into a silent house and an empty bedroom so he sighed and laid down on the bed with his business suit still on his body. He had organized the annual office party tomorrow so he knew he wouldn't get any peace moving forward.
He pulled out his phone to see if there was a text from you but there was nothing and he didn't want to disturb you if you were out shopping so he put it down and closed his eyes, it didn't take him long to drift into sleep.
As you returned home, you found Daemon passed out on the bed. Despite his exhausted state, he still managed to look adorable with his mouth open, that was one of his endearing qualities. You removed your heels, climbed onto the bed, and gently tucked his hair behind his ears. The sudden touch caused him to shift and wake up
“Hey theree” you mumbled softly as you climbed on top of him so he rubbed his eyes and gave you a smile.
“One day I come home early and you're not here to kiss me first thing” he feigned a hurt look so you gave him a pout..
“Sorry i didn't tell you, I was out for a brunch with Shelly”
"That's okay darling, I was jesting" Daemon said as he caressed your cheek with his fingers "How was your brunch?”
"Good, it's been long since we met so we had a couple of drinks" you said as you slowly undid his tie, you didn't understand how he was able to sleep like this.
“Sounds fun..” his smile dropped so you caressed his cheek with your thumb to bring his eyes back to you.
“What Is it? Work stuff?” you asked him softly.
“Mmmm ..I just..it's not that, i came home today and you weren't here and I just..felt sooo lonely..I'm not whining I'm just..is that how you feel when I'm not here for you?” He asked you softly so you leaned down and kissed his forehead.
“What do you want me to say?”
“Start with the truth and then you can sweeten it up to preserve my fragile ego” you chuckled as he said that
“I miss you of course.. would i want you to come back home like a normal guy once the work hour ends? Of Course i would but you're not a normal guy, you were born to do something great with your life and I'm here to support you all the way to the end..”
His eyes teared up as you said that so he flipped you around and laid you underneath him, you took his jacket off as he kissed your neck,
“I couldn't have done any of this without you”
“That's not true..you were doing this even before you met me..you would have done this with or without me–” he placed his thumb on your lips before you could go down this road,
“No you don't understand..you don't quite understand what you mean to me..” he mumbled tenderly as he kissed you over and over again, his lips barely brushed over yours as he kept mumbling between each kiss.
“Mmmm I think you made it clear when you made me your missus”
Your arms wrapped around his neck as he quickly rode your dress up and entered you swiftly,
“I love you.. and I'm sorry for being so absent –”
“It's okay..as long as you come back home, as long as you're mine and mine alone..it's all okay”
The next day at the office party you got all dolled up and hung around his arm throughout the evening. The party was the same as every year, he went all out to show his appreciation for the people who worked for TargSecure. People loved him, there was no questioning that, especially the women, he was extra attentive to their needs, they got higher pay and better leave days, their safety was the first priority for the company as Daemon wouldn't have it otherwise.
You saw Aemond and his wife Emma there so you spent your time with her while Daemon was busy with the employees, everything was the same as the past years.
However, there was this one little problem, one so insignificant and probably a figment of your imagination. And that small problem was your husband's young hot new secretary Sheena Mulaney that you knew was upto no good.

Equilibrium
So the Dead on Main server caused me to spontaneously spawn an entire outline for an AU because I wanted a Dark Danny fic. So. Here's a snippet of what I'm working on.
It had started out subtly. The beginning of the end.
The GIW had crept into Amity Park, buying up empty office buildings. Making themselves known. 'Researchers' they called themselves.
They could always be seen whenever there was a ghost attack. Not running, not helping, not hindering. Just. Watching.
The first red flag that became obvious in hindsight was when they'd reached out to the Fentons. When Jack's long winded rants on ghosts didn't scare them away. When they started taking notes.
The second red flag was the government contract sent to the Fentons a week later.
But still, the GIW didn't do anything. They bought up the empty buildings, filled them with strangers in white suits. Amity Park gradually learned to ignore them. They were harmless, some weird government branch that had an interest in ghosts. It wasn't interesting after months of idleness from them.
Amity Parkers lowered their guard, answered the seemingly innocuous questions posed to them. 'How long have ghosts been attacking?' 'Have you ever been injured by one?' 'Have you noticed anything strange?' They were simple questions, questions any Amity Park resident could easily answer.
Eventually the GIW became another quirk of Amity. Something expected, normal even.
Then the 'clinics' started popping up. They were free to use, offering simple health care for any Amity Park resident. Common colds, ear infections, broken bones, vaccinations. You had to do a blood test to use them, but no one minded much when they were free. And injuries were so common with the ghost attacks. Ghosts never seemed to care about collateral, except Phantom. But he was the one ghost who protected them, so that was expected.
Amity Park became welcoming to the GIW. Open to their questions, freely giving information. Even Phantom was willing to stop occasionally when a question was called out to him by one of the white suited men or women.
Yet still, the government contract remained. The Fentons handing over blueprints of weapon after weapon, prototype designs shipped off. Research papers handed over by the box full.
The GIW presence increased slowly, over the months that became a year. Their clinics and offices multiplied. Empty buildings and shop fronts were bought as soon as they went on sale. Soon it wasn't uncommon to see a person in a white suit everywhere you went.
No one ever noticed how they never employed Amity Park residents. How they never hired, how there was never a help wanted sign posted or an ad made to ask for workers. No one wanted to look that deep.
Willful ignorance was easier than admitting they'd been invaded.
So the Amity Parkers kept answering questions. Kept visiting the clinics with their doctors who often asked questions unrelated to the reason for visiting. 'Have you noticed yourself becoming stronger?' 'How much sleep do you need, on average?' 'Have your eyes ever glowed?' 'How long can you hold your breath?'.
The clinics began offering more services, addressing more issues. All still for the small cost of a vial of blood. It became normal to visit a clinic rather than a doctor for anything. Flu? Clinic. Broken bone? Clinic. A nasty burn from an ecto-ray? Clinic.
Some people started vanishing, but that wasn't unusual in a city. People ran away or died all the time. It wasn't many, really. Maybe a one or two a month. There was no pattern in the victims, so it was presumed they were unrelated. The cops were stumped. No one paid attention to the fact that every single one of the missing had visited a clinic days before they vanished.
Then came the blackout. Or maybe it came sooner, it was so hard to tell when it started. When it became impossible for anyone in Amity Park to reach out to someone out of it. At first anyone who mentioned it was called crazy, conspiracy theorists.
But soon it became more obvious. Friends or family out of the city could no longer find any Amity Park resident on social media. Couldn't even find a mention of the city existing anywhere on the internet. They blamed it on the ghosts at first. They did weird things to technology, it must be them. Right?
Then they stopped being able to call out. Cell phones would no longer make or receive calls from anyone who didn't have an Amity number. They started to get restless.
Then came the roadblocks. Anyone trying to leave Amity found that all roads out were inexplicably blocked. Construction, they claimed. All the roads at once, yes. There had been earthquakes that destabilized the roads all around Amity. So they said.
They had been trapped, and they never saw the jaws closing on them until it was too late.
It didn't take long, once the revelation that they couldn't leave, couldn't call for help, spread.
The military moved in, penning them inside their city. Checkpoints were placed at every road in or out of Amity. You could only leave if you were in the company of a soldier or a GIW operative.
'Quarantined' they were told. Because of what they weren't told. Something highly contagious and dangerous was all they were given. Hospitals were taken over by men in white suits. Doctors and nurses were sent away, fired. New ones were shipped in, strangers.
More people started going missing. They all knew who took them but they couldn't say it. Couldn't admit it. Didn't want to.
Curfews were enforced. No one was allowed out after sundown, businesses had to shut down an hour before. No one was allowed out until dawn, schools were forced to start later. Anyone found breaking curfew was apprehended, sent to a holding facility. They weren't seen again.

Long rant below "Keep reading", cw for colorism and racism
For those unaware, @hellaplastic on Twitter released a prototype image for LaRose's doll indicating she had been originally designed as black and whitewashed. Evidently Kicks Babe, released the same year, faced the same treatment.
I have long been aware of MGA's racist practices bleeding into Bratz and Rainbow High (prioritizing lighter-skinned or white characters above darker-skinned dolls), but this shit continues to legitimately disgust me. It certainly doesn't help that LaRose's style of pastel hyperfemininity is one which black and brown women are frequently excluded from.
According to the original poster, both of these changes came about when retailers asked for less POC dolls, although which retailers have yet to be directly mentioned. As a result, I'm seeing defenders of MGA attempt to shift blame onto these retailers for not wanting black dolls on their shelves, or consumers for not buying them. However, these arguments completely oversimplify this much worse issue.
MGA, retailers, AND racist/colorist consumers are all complicit in the systemic racism and colorism present in the doll industry. MGA is perfectly willing to take credit for sticking to their guns with putting Sasha from Bratz on shelves in spite of retailers' protests, and yet whenever the opportunity arises for them to cater to racists' whims they fold faster than a house of cards.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the year LaRose and Kicks Babe came out, we've been seeing fewer black dolls released by OMG and even fewer with textured hairstyles. In 2022 there were 10 dolls with textured hairstyles and 11 dark-skinned dolls, in 2023 that was cut down to 4 and 2.
We shouldn't allow this kind of shit to continue. We shouldn't allow the doll collectors and consumers to perpetuate racist and colorist ideas, we shouldn't allow retailers to make these kinds of demands without serious repercussions, and we shouldn't allow MGA (and frankly any other companies pulling this shit for that matter) to have their sales and reputation go completely unaffected by such blatant racism.
I'm going to continue supporting and promoting POC-owned doll brands like Fresh and Naturalistas over these racist and cowardly mega-corporations supporting genocide, and I encourage my followers to do the same.
And of course, once again, I implore all of you to support the GoFundMe's of Ahmed and Sahar and their families. Whatever money you planned on spending on these dolls that would have supported a company willing to pull shit like this could instead be used to support the POC suffering from the actions of colonizers.

Park Jimin.
One of the greatest names in South Korea. One of the greatest names in the world actually. His face was on everything. Street signs, billboards, cars, even school lunch pails.
He was a prodigy. A genius. Although his parents were successful, he needed no help from them. He owned car dealerships, clothing brands, shoe stores, etc. Anything you could name, he owned 3 of it.
All at age 28.
No children, no spouse. All of his achievements done single-handedly.
How did he become so successful? We'll never know. He's a very a secretive man.
Although there is not much known about him, he is the definition of "the female gaze."
He is an incredibly handsome man. He trends daily for his sharp jawline, his beautifully carved lips, and his beautiful siren like eyes.
He could charm any man or woman with his looks alone. His voice was like a pied piper, seducing anyone who listened.
Park Jimin was a mystery.
༊—
Yoo Jangmi.
CEO of YooMi Beauty. The title coming from her surname and her first name.
YooMi Beauty was an incredibly  popular beauty brand ranging from makeup all the way to high toothbrushes.
YooMi Beauty had makeup, jewelry, women's clothes, men's clothes, heels, maternity wear, children's clothes, even kitchen wear.
Everyone was wearing YooMi. Custom designs from Ms. Jangmi herself. She was a self made entrepreneur who turned her small business into an empire.
She was an inspiration to many women. Being an independent woman and making a name for herself all on her own, many people looked up to her.
Unlike Park Jimin, Jangmi was very interactive with interviews and customers who supported her. She admired every bit of feedback she received and was very transparent.
It was no secret that Park Jimin was her rival, and with her coming out with a new car accessory line, she knew there would be talk.
He owned a lot of different branches similar to her, so the two were constantly competing against one another.
Tonight they were both invited to a gathering at a casino in Las Vegas hosted by one of his competitors, Yoo Kihyun.
Jangmi's brother.
Jimin wore a more business casual outfit. Since it was being hosted by Kihyun, he could care less how he really looked. No one there would peak his interest enough to really make him want to stand out.
"Nice to see you, Park. Champagne?" Kihyun offered.
"Don't mind if I do." He answered, watching the bartender pour them a drink. "Surprised you invited me. Especially after I made your sales plummet last spring." He smirked.
"Surprised you remembered." Kihyun chuckled lowly, taking a sip of his drink.
"How could I not? I'm making it a marker of my many successes." Jimin thanked the bartender, turning back to Kihyun.
"You enjoy your night, Park. Do contact me if you need anything else." Kihyun and Jimin waved their goodbyes as Kihyun went to greet other guests.
Jimin held his chin high as he drank alone. At gatherings like these, he didn't talk to many other business owners.
Not to his surprise, he was viewed as a very arrogant man. Which he was, in moderation.
He wasn't a total dick, at least he'd say so. But he definitely was a sassy man. He was a bittersweet person.
"Sitting alone like always." A low female voice was heard behind him. "Get me something with vodka and strawberries." She ordered to the bartender, taking a seat beside Jimin.
"Ms. Yoo." He turned to her. "How lovely is it to see you tonight. Alone." He mimicked her. "You order your drinks like a toddler."
Tonight she was wearing a lilac maxi dress, sparkles reflecting off the many games and neon lights around them. Her hair was long, jet black and parted to the side.
"At least I'm not drinking boring champagne. Don't you like to try new things?"
He shook his head. "Nope. You can never go wrong with champagne. You already know what to expect."
She rolled her eyes. "Yeah. I can expect to be face deep hurling over the casino toilet."
"How ladylike." He fake smiled. "No wonder you're alone too."
"I actually chose to come alone, Mr. Park. You have no choice." She thanked the bartender as he slid her drink over to her. "Be a doll and pay for my drink?"
"As if." He scoffed. "Why should I do that?"
"Because I'll be the only woman you've bought a drink for since you've been able to purchase alcohol." She fake smiled back to him, taking a sip.
Friendly fire is what their relationship would be described as.
They could be civil with one another yes, but they had every reason to not be.
They were in constant competition. Who could sell more in a certain amount of time. Who could please their consumers more than the other.
She couldn't stand him. He couldn't stand her. Every little thing the other did, set them off.
What made it worse was they were neighbors.
Jangmi and her brother looked so alike. The evil smirk they shared ticked Jimin off.
One thing Jimin and Jangmi both agreed on, was their rivalry against Kihyun.
Kihyun and Jangmi were siblings, but he was also her competitor.
He was shady, a cheat. He used his looks to his advantage when it came to business. He lied to a lot of his consumers and he often made false promises to them.
Although there were a few instances where he was exposed for his doings, he easily paid off reporters for their silence.
He overshadowed brands that had actual good value. Honest brands. Such as YooMi and Park Enterprises.
No one with a high power dared to ever challenge Kihyun, knowing damn well he could crush them instantly. So many remain silent.
"Aren't you just peachy to be around." He fake swooned. "Go hang out with your brother. I miss the silence before you got here."
"You know damn well that's not going to happen. I'd rather sit and drink with you than talk to that idiot." She took another sip.
"Don't tell me you like me Ms. Yoo— Awe! I'm flattered." He put his hand on his heart. "You have a boyfriend, but I'd understand why you'd want me more."
"You fucking wish. You'd have to pay me to like someone like you." She shook her head. "Especially more than him."
"I don't know. That's how they all start out. Pretty soon you'll want to sleep with me when you become a married woman. That's how captivating I am." He winked at her.
Jangmi almost gagged. "Captivating or cocky? Either way I'm going to be sick."
"I think you mean lovesick." He corrected her.
"Alright enough of that." She downed her drink, placing the empty glass on the table. "Thanks for the drink. Goodnight Park." She waved before exiting the bar.
"Goodnight Ms. Yoo." He bid his goodbyes, watching her as she walked off. He looked down at his aching lower region once she was completely out of his sight. “Shit— Am I hard?”
༊—
"Finally." Jangmi threw herself on her couch.
"How was it? How was he?" Jangmi's best friend Yeri came out of the kitchen, a bowl of oatmeal in her hands.
Yeri and Jangmi had been best friends since the age of 8 years old. The two were almost like sisters. They did absolutely everything together and they knew everything about each other.
Yeri knew the code to Jangmi's penthouse, so she'd go in and out as she pleased if she didn't see her boyfriends car in the driveway. She only lived a few buildings down but according to her Jangmi's home felt "comforting"
"You ask me that every time. Just apply at his office or something." Jangmi replied, face down into the pillow.
"You know it's not that simple!" Yeri whined. "My dads money can only do so much for me." She pouted.
"Work for it." Jangmi suggested.
"I'd rather die. Hey! Do you think Kihyun might want to—"
"I'm going to stop you right there! My brother is off limits!" Jangmi shot up from her couch.
"Are you jet lagged or something?! I meant offer me a modeling gig! You didn't let me finish." Yeri rolled her eyes.
"Thank goodness. I almost died." Jangmi laid back on the couch. "I don't get why you even think he's cute. He's a cocky bastard."
"You don't see the vision Jangmi. Jimin may not have the best personality, but you've got to admit he's very handsome."
"You call him Jimin like you guys are close." Jangmi brought out her phone. "Look, I have to run to his office anyways for a pick up tomorrow. You can say you're one of my assistants and take my place."
"Are you serious?!" Yeri gasped.
She nodded.
Yeri set down the oatmeal and ran to her best friend. She gave her a huge hug, "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She squeezed her.
"Don't make me regret this." Jangmi grumbled.
༊—
Lee Minhyuk, Jangmi's boyfriend of over a year.
The man was about 179cm and just a year younger than Jangmi herself. She didn't usually go for the younger ones but this one specifically caught her eye.
Their relationship was very public. Everyone knew about him.
He wouldn't shut up about her. Although he hasn't nearly as famous as she was, whenever he'd be interviewed or featured on television he'd always manage to bring her up.
Jangmi this. Jangmi that.
He was a romantic too. Surprise roses here and there, dates outside the office.
His world revolved around her, as she was what he gloated about the most.
The media adored him, waiting daily for the man to pop the question, "Will you marry me?"
He originally was one of her Kihyun's business partners, so they met through him.
She'd say it was love at first sight the way they instantly connected after some simple phrases back and fourth.
Their relationship seemed so perfect. Barely any fighting or bickering between the couple. They were on the same page about their futures and they could communicate well.
Their relationship was perfect. As in it used to be. Out of nowhere, Minhyuk turned away from her. Pretty early on too.
Fights between the two would break out often. He'd leave and disappear for days on end. Weeks even.
She couldn't pinpoint where exactly they went wrong. She was nothing but devoted to him and treated him with nothing but respect.
He was controlling. Didn't like her daily habits. Didn't like how she ate and how she dressed.
His boasting about her was usually about her physical appearance. It was appreciated but she just wished he'd bring up something that wasn't about her face or her body.
They could be just a bit more intimate, thought Jangmi. At least towards her. They had sex often but, it didn't go down in the way she'd like to.
Often when it would come to them 'getting it on' it would only end up benefiting Min-hyuk.
"I don't want to try anything new." Minhyuk would argue, leaving a frustrated Jangmi to finish herself off later when she was left alone.
Eventually she stopped fighting it, seeing that she wasn't going to win anyway after time and time again of her trying to explain.
Maybe it's just an obstacle they'd have to overcome in the future, all couples have something they need to work on.
For Min-hyuk, the main obstacle in their relationship was her not wanting to settle down.
She didn't want to be married just yet. The girl loved to party, loved to travel. She was a drinker and she loved to explore and feel free.
She loved looking pretty. Dressing up. One of the main reasons she started her business.
Daily she'd wear makeup and "girly" outfits. She was a very feminine woman who couldn't stand looking overly simple.
Here and there she'd like to expose skin. Nothing drastic but she loved to feel comfortable in her body. She went to the gym daily. She didn't work hard just to not show it off.
Her looks weren't for anyone's gaze. Just for her and her only.
Minhyuk wanted to domesticate her already. Make her the perfect housewife and give birth to their many children. Combine their companies.
He didn't like that she loved to party. He hated that all she wanted to do was try new things and travel.
Do not get him started on her outfits. How could such a woman show off so much?
He didn't understand any of it. He loved her but at some point shouldn't she stop?
"Don't you think you're getting a bit old to be wearing outfits like that?" He asked, leaning against the doorframe
Jangmi wore a simple floral pattern dress. It was long sleeved and flowy at the bottom.
She never wore flats but today she decided to. She dressed so plain today. For once she didn't dress for herself but she dressed for him today. Her outfit was the exact opposite of what she usually wore.
It was one of of the most modest outfits she owned.
"Considering I'm still in my twenties I don't think so at all." She laughed.
"Late twenties might I add." He folded his arms. "Shouldn't you be thinking about your future just a bit more?"
"Uh I think about my future every damn day. You forget I run an entire empire." She scoffed.
"I'm just trying to help you out Jangmi. Nows the age to start thinking just a bit more about the future of us. I want kids. A marriage." He held onto her waist.
"I don't understand why my outfit is stopping us from achieving that." Jangmi tilted her head.
"Just forget it." Minhyuk sighed, a sad expression settling on his face.
"Wait— I'll change." Jangmi exhaled.
She just wanted the best for the two. Minhyuk was all she knew, so she couldn't just give up on him.
Minhyuk's pout turned into a smile instantly. "Thanks Jangmi! I love you."
"I love you too." She smiled, heading back up the stairs.
༊—
"Breathe Yeri. Breathe." Yeri calmed herself down before entering the elevator of Park Enterprises.
She was really there in the building. After using Jangmi as an excuse to see Park Jimin up close and in person, she was finally able to do it.
The smoking hot man she had seen on so many billboards and TV screens she was finally going to see in person.
She was filthy rich and her dad could get her to meet anyone she wanted but for some reason, Jimin wasn't within reach.
He was a busy man who was always traveling. And unlike an idol, he couldn't just do meet and greets.
I guess you could say she was a bit of a fan girl.
The elevators made a "ding" noise as soon as she reached the top floor.
"Okay. You just put them on the desk and leave. Easy." She reminded herself as the elevator doors opened.
Before her plans could be fulfilled, she slammed right into someone.
"Ow!" She winced as she immediately dropped to the floor.
"Oh my goodness— Are you okay?!" The man immediately stooped down and helped her up from the ground.
"Y-Yeah." She struggled to get back on her feet.
"I'm so sorry!" He bowed to her before the two made eye contact.
Damn.
'Who is he?' Yeri thought.
Little did she know he was thinking that same thing.
The two simply stared at each other for a few seconds.
She felt as if she was in some kind of drama. When she looked at him it was like cherry blossoms and lovey dovey music played in the background.
Forget Jimin. She needed this one.
"Are you here to see Mr. Park?" He asked her as he pressed on the elevator button.
She nodded.
"He's not in his office at the moment but I can take those. You're from YooMi. Correct?" He asked her as he took the files from her hand.
She nodded once more.
Damnit, why can't you speak? Yeri thought to herself. No way she was this pathetic in front of him.
"I'm sorry if I've frightened you. I'm Mr. Park's secretary." He bowed to her, her bowing back. "And you are?"
"Ah— I'm Ms. Yoo's assistant."
"You must be new. I know all of Ms. Yoo's assistants." He adjusted his glasses.
"I'm still in training unfortunately. She's just having me run some errands." She explained before the elevator came to a stop.
"I wish you luck. I know she's a pretty tough woman. But this is my stop. Sorry again." He waved goodby before getting off the elevator.
"I need him." She mumbled to herself after waving goodbye to Mr. Park's assistant.
༊—
"Jangmi, please."
"For the last time. Hell no! What are you even on about?! You didn't want a job period now all of a sudden you want to work for me? You're out of your mind." Jangmi walked past the pleading girl.
"I'm so desperate here Jangmi. Can't you find it in your heart to—"
"No." She shook her head. "Not until you explain to me what the hell you're doing this for."
Yeri had spent the last few hours researching Jimin's secretary.
There were images and videos but there were no names. Nothing to work with at all.
She needed to see him again. He introduced himself as Jimin's secretary but didn't even give her his work name. Did he not want to tell her? Was he secretive? What kind of person wouldn't even say their own name?
She figured since Jangmi and Jimin hated each other, she had to know.
"What's his name? Jimin's secretary." Yeri asked.
"Ohhh. That's what this is for." Jangmi smirked. "Finally seen Secretary Sexy up close."
"Don't ever call him that again." Yeri gagged. "That was hard to even hear."
"Whatever. It could be worse, I could like Mr. Park's secretary."
"You don't get it! Jangmi you just had to be there. He was so tall. His shoulders— Oh don't get me started. And he's polite! When we locked eyes it's like..." She trailed off. "Love at first sight!"
Jangmi simply stared at the girl for a moment. Then burst out laughing. "Whew Yeri!" She threw herself on the couch. "You can not be serious!"
"It's not funny!" Yeri began to throw a fit, stomping her feet. "It's like the whole world literally stopped for us! Music started playing and the colors in the elevator became so vibrant like in the movies!"
"The elevator is literally silver and brown!" Jangmi laughed. "Girl he's cute but not that cute!"
"You're childish." She mumbled. "You're just jealous because you're in a generic relationship. You're not in a drama like me okay!"
"And what am I supposed to be in if you're a drama?"
"Those really boring slow silent historical films that only old people watch!" Yeri immaturely pointed at her.
"Well that was just rude. But I guess that's what love at first sight does to you." Jangmi giggled, causing Yeri to huff. "Okay okay that was the last one!"
"Just tell me his name. Oh my gosh- Do you have his number?!" She jumped on the couch.
"How close do you think I am to Mr. Park?!" She exclaimed.
"I have an idea!" Yeri shot up onto her feet.
"Let's hear it." She sighed.
"Buy him."
Jangmi rose an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
Yeri smirked. "There must be a reason Park Enterprises runs so well. The secretary. We buy the secretary we buy all of his secrets. Poor guy was overworked. I don't even think he has his own office. Let's march down there and let's buy his secretary!"
"That's..." Jangmi exhaled. "The stupidest idea I've ever heard of. And you just talked about love at first sight. You're an actual idiot."
Yeri whined. "Come on! It's a good idea. Don't you want to know his secrets?"
"As much as I do not like Mr. Park, you're not thinking about this logically. His secretary is bound by his contact. Equally meaning he can not say a damn thing about the Park name. We have no idea what kind of contract he even signed." She took her hair out of her ponytail.
"And to be honest. I don't care about that secretary enough to hire him. I'm not wasting my precious time on some crush that may be loyal to his company." Jangmi shook her head.
"So that's it? Me and him are through?" Yeri dramatically stuffed her face in the pillow. "I thought money could fix everything!"
"You should know very well by now it does not. At all." Jangmi rolled her eyes. Hearing how distraught her best friend was, she caved in.
"His name is Jeon Jungkook. Do you want to go drink and get BBQ?" She asked her.
༊—
"She's perfect isn't she? Beautiful face and a beautiful body. What more could a man want?" Minhyuk boasted in front of the press, arm wrapped around Jangmi's waist.
Tonight they were attending a fashion show in Seoul. The main models were wearing various designs by YooMi and Jangmi couldn't be more proud.
She hand picked the models herself years ago and now with their experience, they'll be walking their first runway.
YooMi wasn't the only brand making an appearance that night.
Park Jimin was only a few feet beside them, waving to the press.
Surprisingly he wasn't alone, but not in the way you'd think.
Secretary Jeon was beside him, answering some questions for Jimin.
It was a bit surprising considering he never really spoke up, so they got a bit more attention than usual.
She paid no attention to them, focusing on the interview in front of her.
"I'm sure he loves my persona too." Jangmi added on, laughing.
Once the interview was wrapped up, Jangmi and Minhyuk made their way to their seats after going through security.
Jangmi happily checked out the area, the room being set up perfectly as she envisioned it.
"This is going to be so good!" The girl rubbed her hands together in excitement.
"Yeah." Minhyuk mumbled, feeling unsteady.
Truth be told the guy didn't want to be here at all. If it was up to him he'd be at home with a cold beer and a porn website.
The show started once everyone took their seats, and Jangmi didn't take her eyes off the runway.
༊—
"Oh my gosh!" Jangmi clapped loudly. "Beautiful! That was so amazing! My girls and boys did so amazing! I'm so proud."
"Yup." Minhyuk looked around. "Do you think the open bar is still available?"
"What's your problem?" She questioned him.
He'd been aching to go since the interview. What could've possibly made him this uneasy?
"You can tell me Minhyuk."
"Earlier. Why did you have to say that?" Minhyuk turned to her.
She looked at him. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm sure he loves my persona too" He mimicked her. "Don't you think that kind of makes me sound like a dick? You should've been more considerate."
"Well I mean all you've done is talk about my looks all night. It was just a harmless joke so relax." She fanned herself.
"I don't need your shit right before a show." He crossed his arms, anger slightly rising.
"You act like it's your brand who's modeling. We came here for me." She scoffed.
"Whatever. It was a shit show anyway. The clothing you submitted wasn't good for shit." He muttered out, clearly ticked off.
"Are you fucking serious? You're acting like a fucking child. If you want to be a dick right now then just fucking go. I have a ride home anyway." She rose her voice.
"Fine. Didn't want to be here anyway." He stood up from his seat and stomped off childishly.
Jangmi breathed out, fanning herself some more.
She needed to calm her nerves before anxiety rose or this wasn't going to end well.
"What's wrong with Captain Hothead?"
"Not now Park. I can not deal with you right now." Jimin eyed her. Analyzing her body language and emotional state.
He didn't see the entire situation go down, but he seen enough to where he could make a good assumption.
She looked stressed from their previous outburst at her boyfriend. Uneasy.
But damn did she look good.
Jangmi had on a steel blue suit with a corset top underneath, revealing some of her cleavage and her stomach piercing which matched the rest of the jewelry she had.
She paired the outfit with diamond jewelry and 4 inch platform heels.
Jimin couldn't help himself but to take a good look at her. Sure she was his rival. But it couldn't hurt to just take a peek.
"You clean up nice." He eyed her once more. "And so did your models. Not bad Ms. Yoo."
"Thank you Mr. Park." She stood up from her chair. "Did you come here to make fun of me because I caused a scene?"
"It's not a scene if no one cares." He smiled. "The world doesn't revolve around you Yoo."
"Whatever." Jangmi was about to push past him but he grabbed her wrist, stopping her.
"Let me take you home." He said suddenly, making her look up at him.
Oddly, Jimin couldn't help himself but sympathize for her. He knew well she didn't like to look vulnerable in front of him, but he wanted to stand before her with open arms.
"What?"
"You said you had a ride. I know for a fact he took the car you both came in. Let me drive you home, neighbor." He reached his hand out to her.
Honestly, she didn't have any other choice. She didn't like the guy but she knew for sure Yeri would be knocked out sleep and there's no one she could depend on to take her home.
Jimin lived right next door, so he's all she got. But why was he being so friendly to her?
"Alright."
༊—
Silent.
It was silent in the car. Who knew they'd be so awkward around each other.
There was small talk between the two in the beginning but it ended up dying down a lot sooner than they both anticipated.
She already thanked him many times for his offer, so not much could be said about that. Jimin didn't mind hearing the praise but she definitely could've said much more.
"You don't seem to shut up any other time. Why the silence now?"
She looked up from playing with her fingers. "I'd figure I'd be nice to you considering I would be stuck at the show without you."
"Always knew you'd need me one day." He chuckled.
"Arrogant."
"What was that?"
"You're arrogant." She repeated.
"You don't like that? All the ladies do."
She scoffed. "I'm not apart of of all the ladies then. And I have a boyfriend so you don't phase me."
"Some boyfriend you have. He's a bit of a boy don't you think? Kind of toddler-like." He raised his eyebrows as he pulled into the gated community they lived in.
"You don't know him. He just had a bad night that's all. It was my fault." She shifted in her seat. "It doesn't matter anyway it's none of your concern."
He chuckled as he pulled into his driveway, turning off the car. "Yeah you're right."
She unbuckled herself and picked up her purse from the floor of the car. "Anyway, thank you Mr. Park for taking me home."
"Anytime." He unbuckled himself.
The two waved their goodbyes and Jimin watched her enter her home safely.
He locked his car and entered in the code to his home before entering.
"It is my concern Ms. Yoo."
༊—
"I'm coming!" Jangmi raced down the staircase, making her way to the front door.
The girl had her pajamas on paired with her froggy slippers. She finished her hair and makeup already for the day 'just because' since she'd be staying home.
Yeri was asleep upstairs, and Jangmi knew damn well Minhyuk wouldn't talk to her first.
So who'd be ringing her doorbell so early in the morning?
Jangmi opened her front door, seeing the very last person she thought would be ringing her doorbell.
"Hey neighbor." The charming man leaned against the doorframe, one ankle crossed over the other.
"Uh hey." Jangmi stared at him, taken back. "Didn't think I'd see you this morning."
One thing about Jangmi, she always avoided eye contact with Jimin.
For him being dressed so casually, he didn't look bad at all.
Why am I checking him out? Shit. Jangmi wondered to herself.
Something about those siren eyes always threw her off. They made her feel distracted.
Was she seriously checking out the guy she couldn't stand in the least? When she had a boyfriend at that?
"I just wanted to check up on you after yesterday." He parted his lips, licking them.
"Like I said, it's none of your concern." She snapped out of his trance. "Why does it matter?"
Why was he still on about it?
"You're right. Can't help but stay curious I guess." He chuckled before his face turned serious. "Eat at my place for breakfast, Ms. Yoo."
Jangmi practically choked on air. "What? Don't you think that's kind of inappropriate?"
"I don't think it is at all. Two CEOs just grabbing a bite to eat." Jimin stuck his hands in his pockets. "Boyfriend won't let you out or what?"
Jangmi huffed. She'd be damned to have anyone think Minhyuk had some sort of power that determined what she'd be doing with her free time.
She was starving, and she knew well Yeri would not be awake in time for the local breakfast diner to be open by the time she woke up.
"Fine, let's go eat. Give me time to get ready."
"You look fine now. We're both in our pajamas and it's not like we're going out somewhere nice. Just my dining room." He smiled.
"Okay." She stepped out of her doorway, walking beside Jimin as they walked over to his home.

A Gold Watch That Survived the Titanic Sells for $1.5 Million
The gold watch worn by the Titanic’s richest passenger, John Jacob Astor, has set an auction record as the most expensive item of Titanic memorabilia.
A private collector in the U.S. paid $1.5 million for the 14-carat gold Waltham pocket watch engraved with the initials J.J.A. The item was part of the “Titanic, White Star and Transport Memorabilia” sale held by British auction house Aldridge & Son on April 27. The watch was one of around 250 items and easily surpassed its high estimate of $150,000.
Astor, a real estate developer and member of the New York dynastic family made rich by fur trading in the 18th and 19th centuries, died at the age of 47 when the ship sank in 1912. Astor had sparked scandal by marrying a woman nearly 30 years his junior and was returning to New York following a protracted honeymoon to Europe and Egypt designed to quell the gossip.
Tumblr media
He was last seen smoking a cigarette with the author Jacques Futrelle after escorting his wife, Madeleine Talmadge Force, and friend Margaret Brown safely into lifeboat four. Both women survived.
Astor’s body was found on April 22 by CS MacKay-Bennett, a cable laying steamer that was repurposed as a recovery ship by the White Star Line, the Titanic’s operator. In addition to the pocket watch, his cuff links, diamond ring, golden pencil, and pocketbook, along with money in various currencies, were recovered.
The possessions were returned to Astor’s son, Vincent, who restored the pocket watch before gifting it to his father’s long-serving secretary William Dobbyn in 1935. The Dobbyn family kept the item until sending it to auction in the late 1990s.

Lessons in Japanese Game Design #3
Tumblr media
From Killer7 to Deadly Premonition, Japanese game creators have intrepidly explored the theme of mental illness in a variety of genres, often in highly stylized form. The title I wish to approach today is a lesser known reference that approached this subject matter with unusual tact and clarity - a memory, if you will, which the collective conscious has long repressed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maria Kimi Tachi Ga Umareta Wake (The Reason You Were Born) is a late 1997 adventure game firmly rooted in the visual novel template that earned Chunsoft great repute. It was Break studio's debut, produced over a year and half for both the PlayStation and Saturn systems. It was published by Axela, a company born out of the internal management conflicts and accumulated debt at ASCII, leading to some of its executives teaming up in 1996 to establish a new project centred around software and magazine publishing. The story of this company's origins, alone, would merit a separate post.
Foreseeably, its release was followed by moderate controversy, such that worked mostly in its favour. One of the most polemical moments is found in the introduction scene, with its tasteful yet unvarnished depiction of Maria's suicide attempt, followed by her hospital admission. The imagery and that which it depicts remains as painful to watch today as it did decades ago.
Tumblr media
While Maria is the central character, her tragedy and arc merge with that of the actual protagonist, Jun Takano, a fledgeling surgeon who, in the quality of certified psychiatrist, is assigned to provide therapy to the French-Japanese patient the morning after her admittance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maria's mental illness component comes to light as the story and therapy sessions progress. The key art consists of photos of women using coloured masks to visually represent the dimensions of her multiple personality disorder.
Tumblr media
(Note: the text above is machine translated from the original Japanese game manual.)
Break was denounced for its bid to integrate so serious a derangement as a theme in a juvenile entertainment piece. Their reaction was to highlight the research done to ensure a careful treatment of the subject and sensitization of players via a bespoke message in the manual. In retrospect, the relative popularity of this game at the time was greatly owned to this fleeting controversy, and is believed to have been a crucial factor in the obtention of budget for Maria's far less spirited sequel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a work of pure fiction, scenario writer Kirie Fukuda was at liberty to carry the already divisive premise into even more exotic territory by establishing a mysterious yet playful correspondence between Maria's distinct personas and Egyptian deities.
Tumblr media
The game's structure is modelled after hirudorama, a Japanese word interchangeably used to describe daytime TV fiction or soap operas; each of its nine chapters lasting nearly thirty minutes, equipped with a plot twist, cliff-hanger ending, and followed by rolling credits.
Tumblr media
Perhaps the single most outstanding aspect about this production results from a tireless effort to surpass the standard of authenticity in what pertains facial expressions; particularly those of the multifaceted Maria, often with stilted yet all the more fascinating results.
Tumblr media
In this and other regards, the influence of D no Shokutaku and its character, Laura, is clear and unmistakable. Maria's director and studio head at Break, Akira Okada, was an ex-Warp employee who worked as sales director precisely at the time when Eno's game was being developed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following a modest success, Break released Maria 2: Jutaikokuchi no Nazo in 99, a not-so-direct sequel which did not command the same attention as the original. The studio created other noteworthy visual novels: Ouma ga Toki and its sequel, as well as the most unusual Saishuu Densha, a paranormal-themed romantic story involving two strangers who meet in a train.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before closing, it would pay to emphasize that this is an entirely different adventure game from the similarly forgotten MA-RI-A Ningōkan no Noroi, a 1996 3D CG horror adventure designed by Osamu Tezuka's son, Makoto; and scored by Kuniaki Haishima, of Kowloon's Gate and Siren 2 fame.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nor is it related in any way with the so-called "Maria" episode from the Yarudora visual novel game series, Sampaguita, released in 1997 for the PlayStation by Sugar & Rockets and Production I.G.

Diviners: what are you reading
Fortune tellers, diviners, tarotists, astrologers, geomancers, bones-throwers, rune-readers... what are you reading??
I’ve heard tell, recently, of someone who got a reading from a Tarot card reader. The client came in with questions about their business.... and the Tarot card reader answered with advice about the gods and spirits, and connecting with the ancestors.  They talked in numbers of disks and singular swords, and emperors and Devils.
Umm.
My friend was bewildered. And angry to be out $45.  And lacked advice — actionable advice — about how to manage a deteriorating relationship with a business partner.
OK, I get it — I myself have shelves that are bending and sloping under the weight of tarot card decks and books about astrology.  I have piles of workbooks and guides to being a better astrologer. And I’m certainly interested in gods and myths and legends of spirits, and how to do magic to make them help you get what you want.  If you’re anything like me, THAT’s on your bookshelves, too.
BUT.
I read eight to ten books about business — about sales, about administration, about marketing and advertising, about business design — every year.  I read two or three biographies of historical persons (partly to pick them apart for astrological purposes, partly because real people are interesting).  I read five to six books about magic, because you have to keep your skills and techniques up-to-date, and know whether or not you’re doing stuff right.  I read three or four books about history (ancient and modern) to have examples to draw on in consultations with clients.  I read four or five how-to books (and devour YouTube educational content) on sewing, embroidery, woodworking, and more, every year.  As my parents (and I) age, I’m reading more books about health and medicine, too.
And because I’m cis-, and white, and straight, and male, I read books by and about and for women, queer people, women of color, men of color.  I read books by non-Americans, too, and try to get a sense of the world beyond my state and nation: geopolitics, the economics of South America, the logistics routes that make T-shirts and jeans in the US possible.
In ancient times, the laws of the city of Delphi, home of the most famous oracle in the Mediterranean, simply required that only a woman could sit on the tripod in the adyton and prophesy.  By the Classical era, it was required that she be a married woman with children, in her fourth decade — someone who knew something of the world, and knew its pitfalls and challenges, as well as its opportunities.
Please don’t get me wrong — if you’re nineteen, or fifteen, and starting to learn a form of fortune-telling or divination, that’s fine.  You don’t have to be married and in your forties to start.  You don’t even have to wait for someone to give you a tarot deck or a pack of runes.
But PLEASE —widen the horizon of what’s valuable knowledge for a diviner. It’s not just the official meanings of the cards in the little white book.  It’s ALL the other reading and information you’re carrying around in your brain: the things you learned in summer camp about making Friendship Bracelets and the class about computer programming; the obsessive binge-watching of every documentary about China you could find; the map you drew in your journal in math class of who was kissing whom; the lemonade stand you ran with your cousin during the family reunion; the book you borrowed from the library about how to write a novel.   Fortune-telling, divination, is a weird method for deciding what information you carry around in your head is relevant to a given conversation with a client or a friend.  But feed that head.  Locked up inside that head is a treasure-house of experiences, and the more you put in there, the more that you will be able to unfold to a client in the course of a consultation.

Book Review: The Fox Maidens by Robin Ha
Publisher’s Summary: Kai Song dreams of being a warrior. She wants to follow in the footsteps of her beloved father, the commander of the Royal Legion. But while her father believes in Kai and trains her in martial arts, their society isn’t ready for a girl warrior.
Still, Kai is determined. But she is plagued by rumors that she is the granddaughter of Gumiho, the infamous nine-tailed fox demon who was killed by her father years before.
Everything comes crashing down the day Kai learns the deadly secret about her mother’s past. Now she must come to terms with the truth about her identity and take her destiny into her own hands. As Kai desperately searches for a way to escape her fate, she comes to find compassion, and even love, in the most unexpected places.
Set in sixteenth-century Korea and richly infused with Korean folklore, THE FOX MAIDENS is a timeless and powerful story about fighting for your place in the world, even when it seems impossible.
My Thoughts: Kai is a character that readers will not soon forget. It’s not just that she crosses paths with Gumiho, though that plays a part. Beyond that, it’s Kai’s persistence and belief in herself that is remarkable. The rules of the society are strict when it comes to class and gender and Kai has to fight against a lot, but she refuses to back down.
Before the story begins, the author provides background information about Gumiho. There is also an overview of the societal roles which have an effect on everything that follows. Throughout there is plenty of action, stealthy creatures that hunt, multiple violent deaths and a lot of other things going on, but readers can’t help but constantly notice how pervasive the gender and class structures are in this time and place. Women–poor women especially–have very few options. While this is a grim truth, it’s not the only truth. Kai and other women do sometimes find ways to work around or through the system to get what they need or want.
There is a young woman who has noticed Kai and it is interesting to watch that unfold. The love interest is not the main part of the story for a majority of the book, but becomes increasingly important over time. I would have liked there to be a little more attention to developing the relationship because it feels a little abrupt, but it’s still a nice element of the story.
Along with an intriguing storyline and relationships both familial and romantic, the illustrations are gorgeous. The design is striking and the colors are used very effectively. When scenes are in the present timeline during the day, the five traditional Korean colors are generally used–red, blue, yellow, white, and black. A slightly brownish monochrome is used for scenes that take place in the past and sometimes a single pop of color is included in a panel or two. The night scenes are usually grays and blacks with one or two accent colors. This helps the reader easily transition from one scene to another. The chapter divisions kind of break this pattern. They may have colors beyond the traditional palette and generally have a softer, more romantic look to them.
The book is a feast for the eyes and the storytelling both through text and images is compelling. I can tell I will be reading and re-reading this one many times.
Recommendation: Get it soon especially if you enjoy historical K-dramas, Gumiho, and/or thrillers with a dash of love. Check out the peek inside below to get a taste of the story and art.

Star Trek Quogs…
So, in 2009 CBS launched these Star Trek Quogs. I don’t know how to describe them. They’re pretty much stylized cartoon versions of characters from TOS that CBS wanted to make merchandise out of, I do not know if these were successful but they are quite interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“The new designs, previously seen at the GoAnimate site and with some Funko figures, are part of a much bigger push to create a new line of Star Trek merchandise that will appeal to a broader audience with what CBS are calling ‘a fresh and accessible look.’ The proprietary animated art style applied to the classic TOS characters and settings will be extended to multiple Trek licensees and products beginning with Gluck (watches), Funko (vinyl figures), Trevco (t-shirts), Hallmark (greeting cards) and more.”
Well! The ST Quogs GoAnimate theme was released in 2009, and removed from the site in 2012.
Tumblr media
As for the Funko figurines… I’m in love with these things. LOOK! The style is so cool! The Orion girl’s dress is so sparkly 😭! Spock and Kirk look so cute, I want these sooo badly. They’re very easy to find for sale online! Just look up Star Trek Quogs on eBay. They go for decent prices!
Tumblr media
I have yet to see actual pictures of these Gluck watches. I’ve never seen them up for sale online, secondhand or otherwise. I really like the Spock watch though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Generationgallery.com sold special “pop art” prints featuring the Kirk and Spock designs. Apparently they cost £27 as a set, they were released on July 1, 2013. They came with COAs! How fancy. They aren’t available anymore, which makes sense. It’s been 10 years after all. I just want to know why, out of ALL the amazing quotes that Spock has, why did they use that one?
There are a lot of different shirt designs featuring ST Quogs, I only included four of them at the top of this post but there’s SO. MANY. And they’re all pretty cool!
Tumblr media
Except for this one. Its …eh. I imagine that little fuzz balls constantly giving birth would be much more frustrating than women. But whatever.
There are more products that were made featuring Quogs, but I don’t want to get into all of them. This post is big enough already.
I’ve been extremely fixated on these Quogs-things for a few weeks so I just have to post about it all. What happened to Star Trek Quogs? Did they fail? Presumably. I’d like to see more characters in this style, especially more figures. It’s been over ten years so I doubt they’d ever bring back Quogs. But I want to see a McCoy figure in this style so badly. You have no idea.

Because apparently this account is now for random movie rambles as I rewatch films for the 100th time-
A watch through of Princess and the Frog:
Anyone else think it is hella suspicious that someone wanted that sugar mill only after she wanted to buy it?
- After the movie was done, it was explained to me by friends that this is a common scam to squeeze more money, especially targeted against POC potential buyers. No one else was bidding, they just wanted more money. My child brain just didn’t fit that together the first couple watch throughs- I mean, they clearly still had it for sale a long time later in order to be threatened at the end of the film… assholes.
Gathering a group of travelers by appealing to thier dreams is a very American story, Ala Wizard of Oz- the idea of the individual goals. This is Naveen, Tiana, and Louis. But then comes Ray, who is just trying to be helpful. That feels more old world, and he leads them to the old world magic- the woman of power in the wilderness. :)
Lawrence was frightened by the idea of a controlling wife, while Naveen was impressed with a well thrown book, and Tiana had dreams that included showing all the boys how it’s done. And her friend is very commandeering, and the object of all the men. There’s a theme of strong women and respect for them here- which makes sense. 1920s fairytales are just out of the Victorian era and the invention of the fairy godmother. And here comes Mama Odie. She even has the mother title.
Naveen and Tiana are so perfect for eachother. Beyond him being ok with her ambition and hustle, she needs his people skills for her resteraunt- you need a front man 😁
First time I can think of in a Disney film that an outside perspective for love song had thier own love to sing about 💘
Every good char in this movie is immediately willing to help someone out, even when- especially when- it inconveniences them. That is how you let your characters be very strong characters, even occasionally overwhelming other characters, and still be good people and likeable. This is how we bond with Lotti, and then Naveen, despite them having domineering personalities.
The way Naveen admires things about Tiana even before he likes her- then when he loves her, the way his face lights up as he watches her.
The wishing star has a name now 🥰✨ Evangeline
Anyone else think froggy Naveen is based a little on John Bob from Swan Princess? Those leg spots look familiar is all I am saying.
Never has good foley hurt so badly as that tiny crunch. 💔🪳
Most important line- “He didn’t get what he wanted, but he had what he needed” was given to her by her mother, who also introduced her to the upper class of town. He mother was so important to this story.
The marrying of Lotty is very “old chivalry” anything for my lady, while the tale itself is very peasant tale of pulling together to get through. As many American tales do, you gotta get ALL the tropes in there. 🪄
Ray is such a well designed character. He is wise, and has common sense, and allies and skills, and LIGHT to oppose the shadows- and they balance it by making him small and fragile. Is… is he the wizard of the party? Not nessisarily in the DND way that is very academically type, but in the LOTR classic fantasy way, that makes one member of the group to be the big support to everyone else, but can also be fridged when needed. 😅🥲 Brings wisdom and all else you need but destined to go out ina blaze of glory???
Happy that his parents seemed to be- “finally someone took him in hand” and could care less about her social position.
First time this white girl heard Neo was sitting through the credits of this film in the theaters. Still love his music. 🎶

HELLO here is some of my vintage disney parks stuff!!! aka what watching defunctland does to a bitch aka why im so insane about scar’s theme park
Tumblr media
(continues below the cut!)
Disneyland Postcard Set - Post 1967
Tumblr media
This is my FAVORITE piece I have because the art on the cover is so gorgeous. The lettering is beautiful the castle is especially beautiful and vibrant, the rendering is lovely, the doodles are ADORABLE. Select colorful scenes:
Tumblr media
This is one of the photos I used to date. The Peoplemover opened in ‘67 so that’s the earliest this could be from. Based on the clothes in other photos I’d guess it’s a few years later than that maybe, just based on the amount of women wearing pants!
Tumblr media
And here’s a shot of the original sale section of Pirates of the Caribbean ride! Captioned “Scurvy Buccaneers Ponder the Worth of a 300-Pound damsel.” If I remember right, they’ve changed this section to be ladies chasing their husbands with brooms to update it.
A Visit to Disneyland Book - 1965
Tumblr media
Written by Mabel Watts and illustrated by Stan Tusan, this book is just adorable. (I hypothesize the previous item was illustrated by Tusan too, but it’s unmarked so I can’t be sure.) It look’s unassuming on the front of it it’s fully illustrated:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^^^ This is an image I want to reference for Scar Theme Park related art ;D!
Tumblr media
LOOK HOW CUTE THIS IS!!
Tumblr media
Also look at these kind of freaky old character costumes, especially the dwarves.
Walt Disney’s Pictorial Souvenir Book of Disneyland - 1965
Tumblr media
VERY beautiful cover. It’s hard to see but the castle is done in a messy, almost impressionist style. Also sidenote the worst thing anyone has ever done is write dates in roman numerals. Whoever came up with that I’ll kill you again.
Tumblr media
Naturally my favorite page spread is the It’s A Small World. Just!!! So pretty and sparkly. It was SO hard to pick which pages to show you guys because every one is really creatively laid out, with nice lettering and illustrations. on every single one!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOOK AT THOSE IMAGE FRAMES
Tumblr media
Tommorrowland has some of my favorite parks concept art because they went SO hard on the colors
Tumblr media
mickey and minnie abominations
Tumblr media
This is one of the most unique illustrated park maps I’ve seen!! You can see the Mule Pack Train (exactly what it sounds like) was still running (1955-73). Other now defunct rides include the Motor Boat Cruise (1957-93) and the Skyway (1956-94).
Tumblr media
This is the back! “Disneyland is for People!” is such a weird slogan to me. Who else would it be for??? My favorite image is the smug looking kid enjoying his drink in his Disneyland hat. I want one of those.
Disneyland Summer 1959
Tumblr media
This was promotional material for the park! Tragically mine is pretty destroyed :(( Features lots of photos of what the attractions were in the park at the time, including information about upcoming events and guest music performances. They also include information on hotels, pet services, etc. Everything you’d need to know to go to Disneyland in 1959!
Tumblr media
Opening spread with a beautiful watercolor painting!! The blurb boasts how Disneyland represents over $5 Million of design expertise. You can see the cover has separated. It’s a few years away from being looseleaf.
Tumblr media
THIS!! is what I intend to heavy reference for a map of Scar’s theme park, when it’s finished. Just as complicated as it needs to be, and very nice to look at :]] These are my favorite kinds of park maps because they’re more art than map, but still very functional!
Tumblr media
i love you watercolor adverts <3 <3 GORGEOUSLY saturated. i am eating this art.
Tumblr media
Here’s the attractions for that year, each with a cute mini illustration. This is most interesting as a study for the use of typeface, personally. AND the colors.
Tea(?) Plates - 1950s-60s
Tumblr media
This one’s my favorite! I think I just like pink. Really lovely castle in the style of the cover of the postcard set, too. Marked made in Japan.
Tumblr media
This one is special in that I can’t for the LIFE of me find it online ANYWHERE. It’s probably 1950s given that it’s marked made in Japan, but other than that, I can’t find it! There are ones similar, but none quite right. Potentially one of the rarest things I have.
Tumblr media
This one’s more 60′s than the others and mine appears to be in better condition than others! Still very vibrant. One of the weirdest color palettes I’ve seen on park merch.
hi if you read this far i love you thank you. post sponsored by the increased photo limits
