Offerings.
Tumblr media
A lot of people, especially beginner witches, tend to feel frightened over offerings.
But, you do know that you don't need to buy them fancy things, right?
Sure, if that's how you show your love to your deity, by all means, go ahead and spoil them if you can.
However, for the people that cannot afford top-tier offerings, I want you to hear me when I say:
Simply your existence, your love for them, your desires to honor them, to be around them, to spend time with them, even just thinking about them, is an offering.
You don't need every tool out there to honor a deity. Sure they can make it easier, but you don't need them. If anything, going without these tools for a while until you can gain them can heighten your strengths and make the tools easier to use, in my opinion.
Just trust your heart. Your intuition. Trust yourself. What feels right and not right to give to your deity, based off of what you have? Do you have wildflowers in your area? You can pick those and give them your deity. Or say they reminded you of that deity.
You can whisper "I love you" or some words of praise to them, or even a whispered conversation. They hear you, even if you think they're deaf when it comes to you.
You can bake them something, you don't need to toss it afterward, you don't need to stress about wasting it. You can eat in honor of them. Or share the meal with them as you eat.
You can give them almost anything, as long as it's genuine, as long as you're happy and are not disrespecting them. (Ex: miasma)
Or, you could simply blow a kiss to your deities.
They're glad you're thinking of them.

Probably a stupid question, how exactly do you dispose of offerings? Not just food, but in general. Sorry, I'm still a baby when it comes to this! ^^"
Hey, Nonny, thanks for the ask!
*bonks you* There are no stupid questions!
There are a couple of different ways to dispose of offerings. For Ouranic deities (deities who aren't directly connected with death and The Underworld; those who reside in Olympus), you can burn offerings (if it is SAFE to do so) or consume them (again, if it is SAFE)! Personally, when I give Ouranic deities edible offerings, I consume them to dispose of them. If you do consume them, though, I'd give the deity a heads-up first! You can also throw away offerings, if you must, but if you do this, I would make it clear to the deity that you mean no disrespect and that it's the only way you can dispose of said offering safely.
For Chthonic deities (deities directly connected to death and The Underworld; those who reside in Hades), you can return the offering to the earth by burying it (if it is eco-friendly ONLY) or dispose of it in the trash. If you dispose of it in the trash, I recommend letting the deity know you mean no offense by this and that it's simply the only way you can safely dispose of the offering. DO NOT CONSUME OFFERINGS TO CHTHONIC DEITIES!!!
I hope this helps! Have a wonderful day/night! ☺️🧡
Anyone can feel free to add on if they have other methods or tips!

(From research but also from my own workings with him. This isn’t meant to be strictly historical this is more for pagans wanting to work with him. There will be a lot of UPG or SPG)
Tumblr media
Anubis/Anpu/Inpu/Inpw (and some other spellings depending on where you look) :
-He is the jackal headed Egyptian god of mummification, funerary rites and a fierce protector of tombs and places where people are buried.
- a lot of stories have him as either the son of Nephthys and Set or the son of Nephthys and Osiris. I personally go by the mythology where he is the son of Osiris, then taken in by Aset and raised as an adopted son after the death of Osiris. He is fiercely loyal to his adopted mother and his father. As well as supportive of his half brother Horus (Heru-sa-Aset)
Tumblr media
What working with him is like
-He is a sort of Psychopomp deity for dead souls. Also in my experience can help bring you into meditations with other spirits safety (he’s guided me to a few of the other deities I work with now)
- He is a fierce protector. Big guard dog energy. Doesn’t usually have a huge temper until something threatens him or a follower of his.
-Most of the time he’s a very calm and patient deity. He will give space when you need it, and also be around when you need him too. He tends to put in the effort that you do. But if you can’t put in much effort he’s patient (just quieter maybe if you’ve backed away from him first)
- He is usually the first one to jump in to help when I’m going through something emotionally rough. It could be because he is my patron but I do feel like he is the type of deity to want to be there for, and comfort his followers/devotees.

How to know if he’s reaching out to you?
Best way to know is to confirm by tarot or your clairsenses if you have any. Or candle flame reading/other forms of divination.
If you’re looking for signs he’s popping up (this is rather morbid but so it goes with the god of mummification and decay) he tends to send roadkill to me. If you see a lot of extra roadkill on a drive to work/a regular route that isn’t usually there. That could be a sign. (I like to ask him to help guide their souls somewhere nice whenever I see roadkill)
Tumblr media
I think he’s an excellent deity for beginners and if you feel called to him I’d say go for it! I started with a simple candle dedicated to him and went from there!

Hey folks who do paganism/pagan related practices what is your "silliest" offering? I'm just curious and I want to see what non traditional offerings people give deities.
I'll go first. I've given Loki oatmeal and Reign energy drink that was watermelon flavored. I also gave Aphrodite a bath bomb.

I was going to just deal with it in my own way but I think I need advice. So there’s two gifts Hecate REAAAALLLY enjoys from me. Old used keys from thrift stores and pennies. This isn’t an issue at all. I love giving her these all of the time.
The problem is that now I have SO MANY PENNIES that her entire offering bowl is overflowing. (We’re talking well over a dollars worth) And my fam cannot know about the whole Offerings to Ancient Gods/Goddesses thing so I can’t really get a bigger bowl. (It’s also in my bedroom so I can do food offerings in there)
Have you guys had this problem? I’m thinking I might just get some paper and learn how to roll pennies and then tape it shut or something. So that I have more room to … you know, give her even more pennies. 😌
I don’t know! this is what works for us but I’m running out of room and I do NOT have the heart to get rid of the pennies in some way.
Thoughts? 😌

part of my morning routine is to make and drink a cup of black tea, which I give as an offering to Sekhmet, and then take my allergy meds right after, for Apollo. the funniest part is that I have a prayer that I use daily for Sekhmet, super serious, take a sip of the tea, and then thirty seconds later What's Up Apollo Here's My Meds Please Let Them Work Today Thanks Bro

Jörmungandr Guide
I've been posting a bit about the World Serpent and figured I should make a whole guide on him. Jörmungandr was the second deity that I began working with. And as he is a being with little information, despite having a major role in Norse myth, I find it difficult to easily devote myself to him so here's some advice for others! (Note: Most of the offerings and associations are UPG. This is what I have learned from my experience with Jörmungandr.)
Tumblr media
Name: Jörmungandr (Yor-Mun-Gan-Dur). "jǫrmun" means "vast" or "immense". "gandr" is a little uncertain in definition but generally understood to mean "magic", "wand", or "beast".
Other Names: "Miðgarðsormr" meaning "World Serpent" or "Midgard Serpent". In Skaldic poetry, he can be seen as being referred to with some variation of "Reistr Jarðar" meaning "earth-twist" or "earth-curl".
Family:
Father: Loki, The Trickster God
Mother: Angrboða, Mother of Monsters
Brother: Fenrir, He Who Dwells in the Marshes
Sister: Hel, Goddess of Death
Main Myths: Thor lifting Jörmungandr disguised as a cat, Thor's fishing trip, Ragnarök
Common Misconception: Jörmungandr is neither evil nor the cause of Ragnarök. Jörmungandr is a neutral being who is the personification of rebirth and change. He is a warning of Ragnarök beginning, not the reason. Ragnarök is a fated event, always meant to happen. It's important to note that Ragnarök is not the END but the end of the world that WE know. In the myths, there are deities, like both Odin and Thor's children, who survive and begin anew in the new world which will be repopulated. Rebirth is core to Jörmungandr and it should be noted in his myths, besides Ragnarök, it is Thor who finds Jörmungandr. Jörmungandr is described to be an ouroboros who remains wrapped around Midgard, minding his own.
Past this will be UPG(Unverified Personal Gnosis) unless marked with an *, in which case, these symbols are mentioned in his myths.
Personality: Personally, in my presence, Jörmungandr is a very intimidating being. Not because he is purposely trying to scare those who interact with him, but because he is very firm and can be distant in his words. Very forward in his wants for you, he provides advice and doesn't demand anything in turn. Jörmungandr is not one who holds your hand to guide you. He is very much a being who wants to see you take charge in life. He cares less for physical offerings and more devotional acts that are beneficial to yourself. He wants your pursuit of change, your ambitions to thrive, your pursuit of life in general. While other deities may provide a familial bond with those who work with them, Jörmungandr is very much a stoic mentor who is waiting for you to show your efforts.
What you may learn with Jörmungandr: How to set and enforce boundaries, how to be comfortable with change, how to accept change and move on, self-confidence, self-care, how to take charge of your life, learn shadow work, learn ocean magick, learn runes, healing past traumas

DEITY GUIDE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(From research but also from my own workings with her as my matron. This isn’t meant to be strictly historical this is more for pagans wanting to work with her. There will be a lot of UPG or SPG)
Tumblr media
Selene is a Greek Titan (I call her goddess because I find it honoring but she is a Titan) She is the moon incarnate. The embodiment of the moon itself in spirit form. I believe to look up at the moon and call it beautiful is to call her beautiful as well.
Her parents are Hyperion and Theia and her siblings are Helios (The Sun) and Eos (The Dawn)
She is ever changing and ever shifting.
The myths of her have a lot to do with a man named Endymion. There are many versions, but my favorite take I’ve ever heard is that he was a human she fell in love with. She knew that he would die one day and couldn’t bear that. So she requested to Zeus that when it was his time to die, he’d go in his sleep, and he’d instead just sleep forever, preserved and immortal. She visits him every night and has many children with him. (I like to believe the version that this was all consensual and that Endymion would’ve wanted it this was as well)
Tumblr media
What working with her is like?
She is as ever shifting and multifaceted as the moon itself. She is a sweet mother, and a firm scolder.
She is the only deity I’ve had who has set off my fire alarms (it was a very normal glass candle with no herbs or extras 😅) and a second time she melted a pillar candle of hers onto the floor because she got very excited that there was a lot of love in my household that day.
She doesn’t put up with me wallowing, she wants me to confront my issues head on. Has tried to work with me on emotional problems and addictions. She’s a fierce protector of women and I’ve found that she will even look out for my girlfriend’s emotions as well, though she doesn’t work with her.
She is a strong mother figure, loving yet stern. She also can go quiet for long periods of time. In my experience prefers meditation as communicating, or the moon oracle deck I have.
Tumblr media
Offerings for Selene:
(What I personally have given her or known others to say that she likes! Feel free to add your own id love to know!)
Physical offerings:
- moon water
- moon stone
- selenite (named after her!)
- amethyst
- moon imagery
- grey candles
- white candles
- jewelry
- silver coins
- flowers that bloom at night
- white flowers
- imagery of white horses (she has a chariot)
- the moon tarot card
- the lovers tarot card
- the chariot tarot card
Devotional offerings
- look up at the moon! Call her beautiful
- learn about the moon phases
- look after yourself and your health
- meditate with her
- draw pictures of her/the moon
-write songs/poetry
- don’t be afraid to feel your feelings!
Tumblr media
Personally, though she is my matron I have some of the most difficult times connecting with her. It could be due to my issues with my mother and seeing her as a mother figure. But, I’d say if you want to work with her be prepared for it to be a bit different than most deity work talked about.
She’s quiet and confusing at times and requires a lot of work. But she’s also patient and forgiving and loving. All in all if you feel a pull to her, I’d say go for it! Just be very respectful of her!
