Cocky Hero to the Rescue
Hero went crashing through the door, a grin splitting their face when they saw their Villain. Although their Villain wasn’t how they usually were.
No.
They were tied to a chair.
A gag in their pretty mouth.
The urgency in Villain’s eyes and the sudden jerking struggle in their restraints was the only warning Hero had before something hit them from the side. Hero saw a flash of white behind their eyes, before another strike sent them to the ground their ears ringing.
Villain crying out the only sound Hero cared about. Hero had barely got their arms under them before a kick to their stomach had them rolling onto their back with a groan.
“I told you villain, didn’t I tell you?” Supervillain’s voice came into focus, as Hero heard the door close and the distinct sound of it locking. “I told you Hero is too arrogant and always forgets check their blind spots.”
“Nice to see you too, Supervillain,” Hero said moving to get up, only for Supervillain to place a boot on Hero’s chest. Not applying any pressure but just showing a clear warning that they could.
Hero grabbed Supervillain’s ankle with their right hand. Just before they could push it off their chest, Supervillain smacked Hero’s hand with their weighted baton. Hero hissed and pulled their hand back protectively, while Supervillain leaned a little weight on Hero’s chest. Just enough for them to feel it.
“Pleasure’s all mine,” Supervillain said with a pleasant smile. “Be a dear and stay down, would you?”
“Normally I would, but Villain and I have a date and you seem to have invited yourself. Now I’m not saying you’re ugly Supervillain, but—” before Hero could finish the sentence Supervillain swung the baton down hard. It hit Hero’s jaw so hard it whipped their head to the side so they were facing Villain, tears springing to their eyes.
Supervillain tsked, moving the baton to Hero’s throat and pressing down. Supervillain kept just enough pressure on it so Hero was forced to yield and stay motionless on the floor. Their hand and jaw still stinging with the smack like a warning.
Supervillain liked control. They liked being in control of every situation. It all had to go Supervillain’s way. They enjoyed having Hero below them docile and Villain tied up and gagged in the room witnessing Supervillain’s exertion of control, of their power.
“You and Villain,” Supervillain repeated. Hero still hadn’t turned to face Supervillain after the baton struck their cheek. Instead they kept their eyes on Villain, their Villain still tied up and gagged on a chair. It was their expression that kept Hero’s gaze though, their furrowed brows and wide panicked eyes and their helpless struggles.
A sudden, merciless strike to the face had Hero’s attention back on Supervillain. Their face burning with the power behind the metal strike as they let out a sharp cry. They moved under Supervillain but the baton was back on their throat and they yielded when Supervillain spoke again.
“Oh, i know all about your little scheming. You must forgive Villain,” Supervillain drawled coldly, their gaze going to their subordinate who shrunk back in their chair. “They do like to get a bit too carried away with their food. A lesson I hope you can help me rectify today.”
Before Hero could ask what Supervillain meant Supervillain’s arm swung back and slammed the baton down on Hero’s windpipe. Hero jerked up, gasping and choking and involuntary response. They had barely wheezed out their first breath before the baton swung down again on Hero’s cheek, then nose with a crunch before a foot slammed down on Hero’s chest.
They thought they were going to die. That Supervillain wouldn’t stop. Something hard slammed into the side of Hero’s ribs. They didn’t think they just rolled trying to get away, but a knee slammed onto their spine and hands were grabbing Hero’s wrists and they were choking on blood and breathlessness that they didn’t even realise what Supervillain was doing.
The familiar clack of power dampening cuffs made Hero’s blood run cold and soon they were struggling against the knee, trying to pull their hands forward and twist away from Supervillain. Hero got their free hand under them and pushed up with all their might trying to somehow shake Supervillain off them but it was useless.
Supervillain just twisted Hero’s cuffed hand up their back more and Hero cried out, trying to buck Supervillain off them. Supervillain was patient and just pushed their arm up further unrelenting. All Hero had managed to do was tire themselves out more than help themselves and they eventually went still.
“Supervillain wait—” Hero pleaded, their voice breaking but it was too late. The final click sealed their fate and Hero felt empty with the familiar buzz of power through their veins.
They were too weak to fight Supervillain off and now they were finished.
Weak.
Vulnerable.
Exactly how Supervillain liked their victims.
“Now, now Hero. Don’t worry, it’s just a precaution,” Supervillain said sickly sweet. Supervillain grabbed the chain of the cuffs on Hero’s wrists back until Hero was slumped into a kneeling position on the floor. They patted Hero on the head before walking around to Hero’s front and grinned at the pair of Hero and Villain, tied up and powerless.
Hero struggled futilely against the cuffs, glaring up at Supervillain. All traces of humour gone from their face.
“I do love it when you just accept your fate, so resolute. So heroic,” Supervillain cooed down at the Hero, but Hero didn’t care. They were too focused on Villain at their side, who was looking back at them.
“Oh Villain! How silly of me I forgot you couldn’t talk,” Supervillain said, voice full of mirth now that they had the pairs full attention on them They were by Villain’s side in two short strides, ripping the tape off their mouth.
“Fuck you,” Villain croaked, voice hoarse and it nearly pained Hero to hear them sound so defeated. How long did Supervillain have them locked up like this? Hero should have known, should have got here sooner.
As if reading Hero’s mind the villain shot them a sad smile, “don’t beat yourself up about it.”
“Yes, Villain. Well said. Hero of all people deserve your respect and sympathy and sorry’s don’t they?”
Before Villain could respond, Supervillain had gripped their cheeks with one hand pressing them in painfully and with so much force the chair Villain was tied to rocked back only held up by Supervillain’s strong hold.
“Not the person who dragged you in off the street, fed you, raised you, taught you everything they know?”
“Let them go!” Hero yelled, one leg under them lunging up only to be slammed down to the floor by invisible hands, their bound hands pressing awkwardly against their back.
“Heroes should be seen and not heard,” Supervillain sneered bringing a finger to their lips at Hero. Hero opened their mouth for another retort when the invisible hands slammed down on their mouth muffling their cries as the hands hold increased to be bruising. Hero whimpered in pain, trying to shift their weight but settled down quiet after a moment. Settling on glaring at Supervillain.
“Leave them alone, Supervillain! They’ve nothing to do with this it’s between me and you!”
“Oh I disagree, Villain. They are the entire cause of your disobedience, here let me prove it to you. Other Villain!” Supervillain called, stepping away from Villain but not taking their eyes off them.
The sound of the door unlocking caught Hero’s attention, and Villain watched with baited breath as their nemesis walked into the room, grinning ear from ear.
“Hi Villain,” Other Villain with their usual smirk on their face and stupid condescending tone. Just seeing Other Villain made Villain’s blood boil.
“What, you want me to be like them?” Villain demanded, unable to stop the hurt colouring their voice. “I thought you said diversity is what gives us strength.”
“It does,” Supervillain mused, “but your heart seems to be too lenient with this stupid hero. It’s time you learned getting over them. Other Villain.”
“With pleasure,” Other Villain preened and stalked over to hero.
Villain sat forward in their seat instinctively as Other Villain grabbed Hero by the hair and yanked them up, the invisible arms keeping Hero subdued disappearing.
“Ah, Other Villain. You look radiant as—” before Hero could get another word out Other Villain slammed their chin against their knee. Villain tensed in their chair, but didn’t react as best they could. It’s fine. They were fine.
“I felt that one,” Hero said shortly after giving Villain something to be glad about. Hero’s inability to just shut up. “Do it again.”
Other Villain grinned. “With pleasure,” before they took their fist and beat it down on Hero’s face repeatedly. After the fourth or fifth punch Other Villain made a show of picking a slumped Hero off the ground just to punch them down again.
When the bruise started shining on Hero’s cheekbone and they smiled with a split lip, Villain leaned forward and said, “Hero enough.”
Hero didn’t even look at them. They kept their eyes on Other Villain. “Do you worst. It’s only a fair fight cause I got these cuffs on,” and hero spat blood on other villains shoes to add insult to injury.
“I can’t kill ‘em?” Other Villain asked.
Supervillain kept their eyes on Villain. “No killing. Everything up to killing is allowed.”
“In that case, I got a lil gift for you hero. Something to remember me by.”
“A gift?” Hero cooed, “you shouldn’t have. I didn’t even get you anything.”
“Oh trust me, this will do just fine.”
Other Villain pulled a pocket knife from their belt and villain straightened. They knew how much Other Villain sharpened those blades. Within an edge of deadly at the slightest brush.
“Wait, okay. Supervillain you proved your point okay? I got it. I won’t talk to hero anymore I promise okay?”
Villain could feel Hero’s eyes on them, but they were staring into Supervillain’s trying to use any of the humanity they had left.
“You learned your lesson?” Supervillain asked, holding a hand up to stop Other Villain.
“Yes. I did. I swear, okay? I won’t talk to hero again. I’ll cut off all contact, I promise.”
Supervillain stared hard at them for a moment. A long moment of silence stretched between them before the Supervillain dropped their hand with a sigh.
“You need to learn why, Villain. Right now you’re pleading for no lasting damage to be done for your hero because you care about them. But I know one thing that will keep you away from the likes of them,” Supervillain said softly. So softly Villain was nearly stunned by the gentleness their voice took on.
Supervillain placed a large hand on Villain’s cheek as they leaned down to be eye level with them, like how they used to talk to them when they were a child and needed to learn the hard way.
“And that’s through guilt.”
“Wait, no Other Villain— WAIT!”
Hero even looked abashed by the introduction of the blade and when Other Villain made the first cut through hero’s left eyebrow hero screamed. Other Villain heightening the pain with every brush of the blade along Hero’s face.
Villain was struggling so hard against the metal keeping him to the chair because he couldn’t just sit and watch helpless as Other Villain mutilated Hero in front of them. Eventually the chair stopped moving even as they struggled frantically and Villain only had to look at Supervillain’s hands to see the reason.
Hero tried to flash Villain a debonair smile, but Other Villain’s body blocked their small comfort to Villain.
“Supervillain please, you made your point. Let them go,” Villain cried as Hero passed out from the pain. Their limp body didn’t hit the floor however as supervillain held hero up by his invisible little puppet strings and other villain stood back to admire their sadistic work.
“It’s missing something,” they remarked. A cruel smile lit up their face and they said: “a signature.”
“No! Wait! Other Villain WAIT! Please!” Villain screamed, struggles renewed but all they could do was watch.
Other Villain lifted Hero’s hand and on the back of it they carved their initials deep and thick.
Villains voice was raw by the time Supervillain let Hero slump to the ground. Other Villain turned around, and with a nod from Supervillain cut the ropes holding Villain to the chair.
Villain got to their feet immediately and went to help Hero but Supervillain stepped into their path.
Towering.
Dark.
Unforgiving.
“If I hear you talk to or help Hero in anyway again Villain, I won’t keep Other Villain at bay.” Villain glared up at Supervillain, nostrils flaring in anger, and tried to sidestep them but Supervillain matched their stride. “Unless you want a dead Hero on your conscience, Villain, that order starts now.”
Supervillain nodded at Other Villain who grabbed Villain by the upper arm and dragged them to the door. Villain shrugged them off before they walked out the door, looking over their shoulder at the bloody slumped figure of Hero.
I’m sorry Hero, they thought, guilt cracking through their bones like lightning.

The villain had never seen their frenemy like this before. At least not since highschool.
Mid fight, Villain had gotten bored and decided that they should go to the bar together. After much convincing, and suspicion, Hero agreed.
Now it felt like Villain was seeing their..true self.
Usually, when around them, the Hero was stoic, quick-thinking and serious, frequently growing annoyed by Villain's constant sarcasm and whit.
Now, they're..different.
"You don't drink often, do you." It came out more as a statement then a question as Hero put down their glass,
"Hey..Hey remember those times we'd sneak into the school to get test answers cause we never actually did any of the work?" They slurred, "That..That was—*hic*—funny."
"..And you'd always have to make a scene, wouldn't you..Even as we were walking down the hallway to the classroom, you'd be whispering about how it's 'unjust' and 'reckless'. And you say I'm the annoying one."
"That was years ago..and you ARE annoying."
Villain scoffed and took a sip of their own drink,
"..Half the reason I did it is because I found you cute when you're mad.."
They choked, "Excuseme?"
"Pff, you heard me!" They laughed drunkily at their friend's reaction, "I always loved seeing that cute little concentration face, too."
"Mm..hm." Villain wasn't sure how to respond, but they were sure that their face must've been very red by now. "Well I sure as hell didn't come here to get flirted with by a drunk hero—im taking you home." They got up and grabbed their hand,
"HEY-Hey—Let me go!" They weakly yelled, "You're not my mom!"
"Yeah, you're real lucky I'm not." Villain ended up throwing them over their shoulder, causing them to thrash, though sloppily.
"..Hmph." They eventually gave up as they walked home, looking down at the ground beneath them.
At least they had a nice view.

100 Follower Special!
Thank you sooooo much for 100 followers! 🥰🥰 (technically 101 now, but semantics, semantics) I know that's a relatively small number, but I've been here for about 3 months, and I'm still happy anyway. Love you guys so much! 🩵🩵
TW: minor violence, bruises mention
Villain knows this. They've spent the past few weeks studying every detail of Hero's base meticulously. This was why Supervillain had chosen them for this mission. Because they didn't get distracted easily and they kept their full focus on their task.
Sneaking inside admittedly wasn't easy. Villain had spent hours racking their brain for answers as they typed away on their keyboard, trying to hack into the system. And after many sleepless nights and one too many large mugs of coffee, they'd finally gotten through Hero's security.
The positions of every door, every hidden door's placement, every secret passageway, and even where all the cameras were (they'd managed to disable them) were all etched into their memory.
They almost glide around with such ease, they might as well have owned the place. But their outwardly calm and collected demeanour was a somewhat fragile façade. Hero may have kept up a friendly persona and thrown quite a bit of banter their way, but they were dangerous in their own right, with deadly control over their power. The scattered bruises lining the villain's body are a testament to that.
They weren't sure they'd like to imagine what Hero would do if they caught them sneaking around in their own house.
But they're Villain, for God's sake. They'd fought and won against people much worse than Hero. Yet they'd never been even half this nervous.
Steeling themselves, they take a deep breath as they try to push all the negative thoughts out of their head. They place their ear to the door, listening for any noises, and the action brings a comfortable sense of familiarity to them from the number of times they'd done it. Hearing no sound, their hands work as swift as machinery, taking the lockpick out of their suit's pocket and working on the lock.
They finally manage to get it open, the door leading into their nemesis's living room. What kind of psychopath locks their living room's door? But the criminal didn't find that a surprise. Carefully lifting the dark green plush rug off the floor, they manage to loosen the fake floorboard underneath, leading to the trapdoor. Another detail they'd discovered spying on Hero through their computer.
Lifting the door, Villain wills the air in the room to return the floorboard and the carpet back to their place as the door shuts. They smirk to themselves at how smoothly their power works as they carefully make their way down the long staircase.
When they finally reach the end of the staircase, they are almost giddy with excitement. One that you could never read off their somber face. The same rush of blood and adrenaline pulsing through them as their first heist.
Walking carefully around Hero's base and resisting the temptation to explore the sleek, well-equipped place, they quickly find exactly what they were here for. The flash drive in the shiny glass case, more precious to Villain than any treasure. It may have looked so easy to get a hold of, but simplicity was impossible with Hero. There was a sick, twisted puzzle only a psychopath or a bitter STEM major could dream up that they had to solve first.
Their heartbeat quickly grows erratic, and their hands shake as they go through the bloody puzzle. Their eyes light up with glee as the glass case unlocks, and they reach inside, fingers almost closing around their prize.
Almost.
"Well done," a silky voice croons. It sounds proud rather than annoyed.
The crime-fighter stands there, leaning against the wall, arms folded over their chest with an amused glint in their eyes. They were dressed in a dark, satin robe thrown carelessly over their figure and tied at the waist, not even bothering with a mask. They regard Villain the same way one regards a child who'd been caught sneaking yet another cookie.
They chuckle lightly. "Ya know, if you wanted an invitation, you could've just asked. I believe I gave you my number last time we fought, hm?"
"Hilarious," they counter, whipping around and making a run for it, flash drive in hand. They try to send a blast of air towards their enemy, except there was barely any air in this damned basement. So all their attempts served was to send a pathetic, little breeze towards Hero.
As though they needed any further humiliation.
It barely takes a moment for the crime-stopper to confiscate the flash drive, twisting the villain's arm somewhat painfully and shoving them into the wall, and they toss the drive back into the case. It locks automatically.
Villain does not appreciate their current position at all. Pinned against the wall, a horribly overused cliché, leaving them mortified, if the look on their face is any indication. Said face is now flushed a bold red, their normally sharp tongue now rendered useless.
Worst of all is Hero's smug, lopsided smirk and the way that they look at Villain in general, with their prying eyes, their gaze sparkling with curiosity. It made them feel like a specimen being examined.
"Shh, it's no use struggling, darling," Hero purrs somewhat soothingly. And their words hold truth because Hero's super strength doesn't falter, and Villain's squirming serves little to no purpose but to embarrass them, and apparently entertain their nemesis.
"W-what are you going to do to me?" they all but squeak.
The crime-fighter laughs, and they feel their heartbeat quicken to impossible degrees, not just out of fear, but out of something far more dangerous. . .
"Relax, I won't hurt you. I'd hate to mess up the oh-so-beautiful artwork, hm?" they murmur
Heat spreads through Villain's body like wildfire. Their words catch in their throat, and their breathing becomes shallower. They'd kept it all professional when responding to Hero's flirtations, being dedicated to their job meant adhering to the concept that they were strictly enemies. But then why are they an incoherent mess of emotions right now?
Hero's honey-sweet tone, the blinding grin flashed on perfect white teeth against dark tan skin, and the flowery scent of their fragrance don't sit well with the criminal. But nothing compares to the way they fix their gaze on Villain, as though they were someone to be admired, someone alluring, more than just a weapon. And, it's not like their life had been devoid of romance, but no one had ever looked at them with the same awe-filled fiery passion like Hero did.
"What do you want?" they breathe out. An honest question.
"Right now at least, I want to invite you to have breakfast here with me, it bring pretty early in the morning. It'll be fun, sweetheart," They run the fingers of their free hand along their nemesis's jaw, a feather-light caress.
Whatever the hell Villain was feeling had just intensified to impossible degrees. They are intoxicated with the almost magnetic charm that made it difficult impossible to think straight. And they didn't want it to end.
"Fine," they answer, trying to keep the shakiness out of their words, which come out at a higher pitch than they intend. Damn you, Hero.
Their enemy's whole face lights up, and they flash them a huge grin. Not one of their seductive, lopsided smirks. But a big smile full of utter joy.
That's adorable. Am I growing soft?
"Sure, but I just have one more request."
"Enlighten me."
They trace the shape of their mask in the air. Well, if they're going to have breakfast with this hero, in an outright romantic setting, then the usage of the mask didn't seem to make much sense.
Hero lifts their arm off, and Villain had half a mind to run off and get a hold of the drive. But one look into those gorgeous sea-green eyes, and all their plans were swiftly discarded and shredded to smithereens.
They peel the mask off, heartbeat now erratic.
"Y-you're absolutely breathtaking in every sense of the word, Villain," Hero coos, snaking an arm around Villain's waist and pulling them close against their side.
"You're not so bad yourself, hotshot," they laugh, pleased to finally have anything on the hero.
This was foolish, risky, and it broke every single goddamn rule in Villain's book. But never in their life had something ever felt so right.

hero's new management
part 1 part 2
(this one is almost 3000 words sorry hehe)
The battle had lasted for hours so far. Televisions were interrupted by live updates from terrified reporters, the police surrounded the whole of downtown, and the Hero was fighting for their life.
Supervillain had been targeting Hero for months and they had finally found them. News of Hero quitting shot the villain community by storm. The city’s shiniest and most powerful hero had left their city defenceless. Well, almost. Once Hero was out of the picture completely, City Hall was up for grabs and far, far more achievable. Almost immediately Hero had been victim to multiple attacks, but they did one thing right. They stayed hidden. The Hero dawned a scrappy new suit, dull in colour and insufficient in actually protecting the Hero but it was the best they could do without a permanent home or income. The police and military- who were usually at the Hero’s beck and call- were commanded to ignore any interactions with Hero or in between Hero and the many villains that had piled up.
Hero was trying to get themselves back up after being shot through a wall and into an office full of cubicles and scared employees. After ensuring the civilians were safe and their wounds were bandaged they led the civilians down the building and they flew back up to meet with the Supervillain once again.
“I’m getting bored, Supervillain. If you’re gonna ‘destroy’ me, you better do it quick before I ditch you!” the Hero yelled to the Supervillain, who was currently busy destroying some residential buildings.
“Keep your spirit up, Hero. I’d love to smear it off your face once I get my hands around your neck!”
“Kinky.” the Hero muttered.
Before the Hero could attack, the Supervillain hurled a car at them, sending Hero crashing again, this time into a city park. While they regained consciousness and rubbed the dirt off themselves they noticed two toddlers hiding behind a park bench quivering in fear. The Hero immediately cursed and without thinking they grabbed the two kids by the waist, hoisting them up and wincing at the new found pain on the side. They flew between the trees to try to get them to safety.
Frantically, they looked around for a safe place to hide them. The smaller one began to cry as the older one started begging for their mother and that was all the Supervillain needed to corner the Hero. With two kids behind them and Supervillain monologuing about how long they had waited for this, the Hero panicked and began an attack. They motioned to the kids to get behind them as they finally lunged at the Supervillain and everything went black.
The Hero awoke, with a headache and incredibly comfortable. They blinked a few times to adjust to the sunlight pouring into the room. The pleasantly decorated and cozy room. The room with exquisite taste in decoration- they recognized this room. The sheer, blue curtains, the daisy bed sheet, all things they had picked out themselves. The Hero quickly got up and once they managed to get off the bed they promptly fell to the floor, alerting a worried Villain, walking into the room carrying a silver platter with eggs, toast and orange juice.
“Hero! Geez. What part of an IV and bandages covering your body tells you to get off of the bed?” They set the tray down and attempted to help the Hero up. They were met with a swat at their hands and through tight teeth the Hero asked “Where are the kids? Supervillain? What happened?”
The Villain gave them a pitiful stare and forced their arms through theirs to help them back on the bed. Hero accepted begrudgingly.
“The kids are ok. They’re actually in the other room playing. We’ve located the parents and they'll be on their way shortly.” The Hero nodded.
“Supervillain? Is the city destroyed? What happened?” They pleaded. The Villain held their hands up, as if to say slow down, it’s all ok. Just as they had many times before this whole mess.
“Supervillain is in custody of the State. The city is -mostly- undamaged. I found you. I don’t know what you did but the Supervillain was knocked out… and so were you. I know you're technically wanted for treason so I brought you back here. Just to recap- everything is settled.” The Hero’s stare didn’t leave their lap.
“Casualties?”
“None.” The Villain sighed appreciatively. “Thanks to you. You single handedly beat Supervillain and evacuated all civilians.”
The Hero stood quiet for a second. They tore off the IV and began towards the door again. “I told you.” They shoved the Villain aside, rejecting their help completely.
“Hero- wait! Let’s talk.” The Villain followed behind the Hero and they limped across the room.
“We have nothing to talk about.” Hero sounded cold, and not only because of their weak and trembling voice.
“Oh come on, I’ve been looking for you for months!
“Get in line.”
“Give me a chance, let me explain!”
“We have nothing to talk about!”
“Maybe we don’t, but I do.”
“I think you’ve said enough.”
“Well, I don’t.” Hero rolled their eyes and reached for the door.
“There you go again. Y’know- I used to be the loud one. The one who spoke too much. When did the roles reverse?”
“Great question! Let’s sit and talk about it! I made you breakfast.” the Villain pointed desperately at the serving platter on the bed.
The Hero took a long look at the eggs and toast. “It’s the bare minimum of a breakfast.” The Villain exasperated, “It’s breakfast.” The Hero considered it.
Feelings quickly began to bubble to the surface, feelings the Hero had tried their hardest to fight off. But seeing the Villain, casually dressed and smelling of burnt toast had them helpless.
“I’m angry. You can’t make me not angry.” They said, making it a point of not looking at the Villain
“I’m not asking you not to be. Although I admit I hate it.” The Hero had gotten better at masking emotions in the past few months but something about the Villain made them so desperately want to come loose, to cry, to scream. For three months the Hero had been living out of motels and dingy alleyways. Eating leftovers and a terrible amount of fast food fries. They were dirty, tired, angry, but something they didn’t let themselves feel was sad. And now, standing in front of the Villain who broke their heart- they were sad. But worst of all, they wanted to be sad.
“Why’d you do that?” They finally asked. Pathetically, like a child asking where their parents are or a dog whining for some food. They didn’t know what they were expecting, maybe it was closure. They wanted the Villain to hammer in the last nail so Hero could close that chapter forever.
When the Hero finally looked up, the Villain looked shattered. The Villain had expected curses, cold shoulders, even a fight. But this was so much worse. For years Villain hid behind smirks, witty comments, flirts and anything opaque enough to never, truly be seen. And perhaps that’s why the shiny hero caught their attention. They were larger than life, so tragically transparent and so regrettably brave. While nothing ever escaped the Villain- the Hero could never hold anything back. The work of hiding should have been easy, but the weight crashed on them like a ton of bricks and they finally collapsed.
“I’m sorry.” the Villain croaked. “I’m so sorry.” The Hero stood silent holding an excruciating eye contact with the Villain. The Hero laughed incredulously.
“What. No. No, you can’t just say that. You broke me. You finally did it. You were cruel and evil and mean. You can’t say that.” the Hero sputtered.
“I didn’t want to be! I…” they faltered. Finding the right words took a lot. But the Hero didn’t seem to be thinking either. So even if they did embarrass themselves it’d be worth it if they got their Hero back.
“I was scared. I saw you quit and I got scared! We- we’ve gotten so close and I had gotten careless and said so many things that should have stayed in my diary- but they didn’t and you’re so good! You are so good. And I’m not. You got to live your cushy life and people love you. You have everything and I can give you nothing. As if you wanted anything from me! I was wrong to assume but it was the only way I could think of to get you back into that life. I wish you could know how much I regretted it the moment you went away. I’ve been looking for you ever since!” The Villain ranted, they took no breaths as the Hero stared absentmindedly, tears welling up in their eyes. Villain had managed to keep their composure so far- but with fear that they might lose it they continued just as Hero opened their mouth to say something.
“If I shot down any possibility of anything, then you could have gone back! Nothing is worth losing your prestigious seat at the top of the world! And- and I know I should have been better. I wasn’t thinking, it was all so fast and I’m a coward.” They took a breath and pushed their hair back with one hand.
“I know the Company is a terrible place. And I know Captain is a terrible person. But in my twisted mind you were better off with them. At the very least, you were safe. With me, your reputation would have been ruined. You’d lose the city’s trust and you’d lose the one thing you love- being Hero.” The Hero held their upper lip with weakness, it was trembling and tears smeared their cheeks.
“Why do you get to decide that? What if I didn't care about that? There were some things that mattered more to me!” Hero tried to explain. “Why didn't you help me? Why send me back somewhere where you knew I hated. Somewhere I complained about time and time again?” pleaded the Hero. “I needed you.”
The Villain didn’t know what to say. So like a venom slowly killing them, they spat out the truth.
“You were safe there. And I couldn’t help losing you, Hero. I was so scared of losing you- even under my guidance, I would have been useless to you and I guess that scared me too. I was selfish.” They whispered to the Hero. “But regardless, I did lose you. And now you're hurt and half the city is destroyed because of me.”
The Hero sniffled. “You said the city had minimal damage.”
“I lied- not about the kids or casualties- but I did about the city.” The Villain exasperated.
“Oh.” the Hero sighed nonchalantly.
They stayed silent for a moment. And it almost felt like before when silence was comforting between them, back during the nights of meeting up on rooftops, calling each other by name, knowing each other so well that fist fights turned into dances. The first time Hero appeared in the Villain’s lair with a newspaper headlined Hero and Villain spotted together they had laughed and read the article together. The second time Hero had been too shy and pretended they knew nothing, giving Villain easy access to tease the poor Hero. Years and years of a bond so strong, of being the only person the other knew so fully and honestly. Was it all a lie? Regardless, the Hero finally allowed themselves to mourn something they weren’t even sure actually existed.
“So, it was all a lie?”
“Ya. I’m a bad guy. We tend to lie.” they answered, timidly.
“Yes, I know. I just didn’t think you’d lie to me. Even for something like that”
“I would. I’m a coward, a-” The Villain confessed.
“A villain.” Hero finished. Silence.
“How much?” Asked the Hero. The Villain perked up, raising an eyebrow. “How much of it all was a lie?” they asked, stronger this time.
The Villain shot their shot and smiled. “Well, all of…that. Um, eight years ago when I said I preferred contacts to glasses, I don’t- I just thought you wouldn’t like me with glasses. I think it was two years ago when I said I was allergic to strawberries, I actually just don’t like them, but you baked me a cake with them so I didn’t know what to say. Five years ago, when I lied and said I never read Pride and Prejudice so that you’d invite me to watch the movie-” The hero laughed, catching the Villain off guard and making them fall in love all over again. They continued.
“And everytime I said ‘I was in the area’ or anything similar. I’d go out every night with hopes I’d run into you. And in my worst days, when I said that you couldn't exist without me. The truth is, I can’t live without you.” Finally, Hero gave them a smile.
“Promise?”
“I promise.”
They stood silent for another minute, the dust had settled and the silence had once again become a comfort, they both relished in it. Hero was conflicted and yet ready to face her fears, it might have been childish, but Hero wanted to love the Villain almost as much as the Villain loved the Hero, they wanted to forgive the Villain so badly, but they weren’t willing to lose themself again. Before the Villain was about to start begging on their knees, Hero started, “This doesn’t change much. Villain, I’ve never loved anything. I thought maybe I did but…”
“You thought?” Villain heartacheing whimpered.
“I don’t think love is supposed to make me feel this way. But, I’ve never really tried to deal with my emotions, ever before. I’m willing to try, Villain. I’m starting to remember why I quit in the first place, although not entirely for you, I had hoped you’d be a part of it.”
“I want to be-”
“Ah-ah. Wait, let me finish.” Hero interrupted. “You made me go through three months of hell, and-” They winced at the blood beginning to seep through their bandages, Villain quickly rushed over and Hero allowed themselves to be shuffled back to the bed where they were carefully hoisted up on the bed by the Villain. “I think I need to recover.”
“You do. You have three broken ribs” added the Villain, sympathetically.
“Oh…”
“Yaa… “ The Villain cringed.
“Anyways, my point is… I really want to believe you. But it won’t be easy, but I really, really want to try.” The Hero begged, not to the Villain, but more to themselves.
“First of all. Stop thinking on my part, I’m grown up. I can use words… Second, stop with the lies, I don’t think I could take it anymore. And third…” The Hero hesitated. “Please try. Please restore my confidence in you. I want to feel like I did when I quit.” The Hero looked down, feeling foolish and desperate. But they took that as a clue they were doing the right thing- at least that's how people in love said they felt like in the movies.
“I want to help you. I want to be on your team, Hero. I spent a decade on you, I can spend even more trying to convince you.” The Villain smiled. “I’ll do anything to pick up where we left off.”
“Well, we gotta get there first.” the Hero reminded them.
They smiled, although insecure and uncertain, and excited and giddy, they kept smiling. “I guess I could start by reheating your eggs?” asked the Villain, tilting their head to the gross pile of eggs sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Ya, that’d be nice.”
The Villain rushed over with the platter towards the door, before stopping and turning to Hero, “By the way, You’re free to stay in the guestroom. However long you’d like. It's basically already yours.” The Hero could have split in half. “Ya. Thanks.” The Villain nodded and quickly went to bring some more eggs, this time when they arrived, the serving dish had french toast, a cup of coffee, freshly made eggs, cut fruits and a single rose in a tiny porcelain vase, the first of many roses to come. Except those times they meant something much, much nicer.

Chocolate Strawberries~
It was, in fact, their favorite dessert. They couldn't deny it.
So when Villain was met with a cheerful hero offering them one, they were conflicted. What if it was poisoned?
Their nemesis stared at them with honest glee, their feet gently rocking as they sat. When the criminal didn't answer, they rolled their eyes. "Do you want it or not?"
They watched as the melted chocolate dripped onto the ground, slowly.
"You're getting chocolate on my new carpet."
The hero looked beneath them, and sheepishly held the plate under it. "Oops." Villain scoffed.
"You really think you can just waltz into my apartment, offer me food that could very well be poisoned, and get chocolate on MY new carpet?"
"Your fault. You were taking too long to answer."
They deadpanned at Hero's smirk. That damn smirk.
"It's a no."
"Your loss." Hero picked off the stem and plopped it in their mouth, flopping onto the couch next to their considered frenemy.
"I don't like you."
"Awww~!" Hero intertwined their hands, putting on an adoring look, "I don't like you, either!"
Villain couldn't help the blush that followed as they registered the contact, but quickly rolled their eyes and took their hand away, grabbing the remote.
"What we watchin'?" They huddled up close to Villain.
Damn it, Hero.
"..A documentary," They quickly answered as they switched it to some random nature channel.
"Aw, I love animals!" They grabbed the rest of the chocolate strawberries off the coffee table.
The two watched the documentary for a bit, but one of them wasn't really paying as much attention as the other.
"..Hey, maybe I will have one." The villain finally said.
"This is the last one.." Hero muffled out, half a strawberry in their mouth.
Villain stared. Before getting a crazy idea. A preposterous, out of this world one, really.
When the villain didn't say anything, the crime-stopper raised an eyebrow. "Vill-"
They smashed their lips together, smearing chocolate on both of them but managing to snatch the strawberry away with their mouth.
They stared at their now flushed enemy, wiping chocolate off their mouth. "I win."

Prompt #3399
Even with a gun under their chin and eight more trained on them from every direction, Supervillain looked entirely unbothered. Glacially cool. “A collar and cuffs, really?”
“Put them on.”
“No.” They crooked an eyebrow. “What are you going to do, shoot me? I think not. If you could, you would have done that already.”
“Put. Them. On.”
“No,” they repeated. “If you want it done, come over here and do it yourself.”
