YOU discover a giant meteorite is hurtling toward the earth, this will kill all of humanity including those on space stations. But if you warn everyone now the Billionaires can make it to their super bunkers and survive. This is an all or nothing game, do you want to save humanity by saving the worst of us?
Fine print. Only the billionaires would be saved. No other 'humans' would be saved. The meteorite cannot be stopped, escape to space is impossible for all.
What I haven’t seen anyone speaking about is the new twitter policy (and everything else that musky boy has changed about twitter) is really indicative of how “capitalists” view the concept of the marketplace of ideas.
Despite a lot of flaws with the concept, the “marketplace of ideas” is a concept that everyone gets to shout their opinion, and that the “correct” take will be accepted by everyone because it’s the most popular. (Simplified greatly)
With these changes, you see what insecure man children like elon do when they’re not “winning” the marketplace. Unlike what billionaires and those weird fans think, people don’t like to pay money for previously free things. People also generally don’t enjoy blatant hate speech, or billionaire dick riders be boosted in their dash, or even just every 3am thought elon has show up first on their homepage.
Weirdos like musk genuinely believe in the concept of the marketplace of ideas, but are so up their own ass that they cannot fathom that their shitty ideas are not going to flourish in said marketplace. They’re so deluded in the idea that wealth is indicative of intelligence that they don’t know how stupid they are. When thrust into the marketplace of ideas, a place where they (hypothetically) are equal for the first time, their ideas fail.
So what do capitalists do? They buy twitter. They force their employees to boost their tweets. They ban anyone who dissents. They fundamentally change the marketplace.
Again, the ideology of the marketplace of ideas is not super great, like fascists and people who do not want to be killed by said fascists shouldn’t have equal voices, obviously, but it is a commonly accepted idea in western culture, particularly by capitalists. It’s seen as an extension of the “free market” idea that they like to tout (often in defence of monopolies or price gouging, ie “it’s fine, the free market will have someone undercut them! we don’t need government intervention!”).
But there is something deeply ironic that these capitalists, when given a true “free market” / true “marketplace if ideas” they feel the need to change it so much so they they will always be on top.
Not only does it further reveal how much these people are losers, it reveals how their system is so flawed that they need to cheat at their own system that they prop up. They’re not popular, they’re just losers with money.
thinking about how everything human beings do is social, including economy. how language dictates ideas, constrains or liberates them. how that means that society is engineered both idealistically and materialistically. how that means that social stigmas, shame, oppression, can be marketed and monetized. how class struggle is struggle for dignity and meaning, not just livelihood. how much the world turns on trust, fear, love, anger . . . human relationships. everything is human relationships. and it’s become compulsory to depersonalize and dehumanize people (esp women) as products, consumables. damaging the human psyche for generations. alienating persons from personhood. madness and violence ensue sevenfold.
Never work hard at your job. I mean it. Do the absolute minimum you need to survive.
No company will care about the work you do and if the company finds out you are willing to do even a little extra outside of your scope, they'll pounce on you and work you into the ground.
Get everything in writing. Never trust blverbal agreements. If your job calls you and discusses job things record it. If recording phone calls is legal in your state or area follow the guidelines for that.
Companies will NEVER lookout for you. You are just an exploitable resource. Protect yourself, protect your sanity, and protext your well being
Immigrating into the USA from germany, i already had like no expectations given the state the US was in during the time.
But actually living here and experiencing the day to day life that the average American seems to be living just somehow even undermet those non existing expectations.
My husband is so unaware of the freedoms I've not just given up but inadvertently, unknowingly, lost by moving here, that i don't even know where to start in trying to explain it to him because its such a cultural difference at that point that the concept is too complicated for my english skills.
Life is so different in the USA. And from my humble german perspective it is not a life.

Am I the only motherfucker on the Internet who loves Wolverine, especially Hugh Jackman's portrayal of the character, who is NOT excited about the Deadpool movie? Fuck you Feige, you are not going to fool me.
The trailer looks fun. The characters look great. HOWEVER, the MCU is not the beacon of character-driven story it once was. I literally don't trust them to make a movie that isn't self-masterbation of the mess that their GREEDY, CAPITALISTIC, and OVERBEARING BOTTOM LINE created.
Tell a fucking story. Take a fucking risk. Take on a handful of writers and producers and directors.
Stop using the popularity of Deadpool and Wolverine as the veneer for your bloated mess of a franchise.
- Sincerely, a former fan of the MCU (Since Ironman 2008)
