Much appreciated, my dude. Arranged marriages pretty much spell disaster for the would-be spouse if you run a kingdom!

Crowned Cupcake Cookie, that was the name of the cookie in the photograph sent to you, the one you were apparently meant to be wedded with for the sake of “keeping the doughline pure”, as Sugar Cane Cookie, your family’s matriarch, would put it.

AN: Many thanks to Runebrave for massively carrying with the design, as you guys may know, I don’t have a single creative bone in my body lol

Your mother, Molasses Cookie, couldn’t be any more embarrassed that her side of the family is meddling with your personal life, wanting you to choose how you want to live it, wanting you to choose who you want to be with…but Sugar Cane Cookie insisted.

She was expected to arrive with Crowned Cupcake Cookie soon, which means having to break the news to your Cookie Kingdom before they did. They deserved to know…

You opened the door to your quarters to see Financier Cookie standing by, she gave a small bow to you.

“Y/N Cookie, I see that you are alright today. It gives me relief knowing that you haven’t gotten hurt.”

And it helps to know that a cookie like her is always keep watch over you, when she makes it to the schedule at least. Quite a number of cookies are always gunning to make your bodyguard spot such as Caramel Arrow or Raspberry Cookie, had to break up a few scuffles on occasion.

But that’s a topic for another day, you’d rather you give her the news of what’s to come..

You tell Financier Cookie to be ready, for your kingdom will have…important guests arriving soon..

“I’ll be sure to be on my best behavior and that will go for the other cookies. May I ask who these guests are?”

It will be your family matriarch, Sugar Cane Cookie…and your soon-to-be fiancé, Crowned Cupcake Cookie-

You see Financier Cookie stop in her tracks, a thousand yard stare straight ahead, as her grip on her sword shakes.

“….What?”

Now now, you know that sounds like a big shocker already, but it’s being forced upon you and you really can’t-

“A forced marriage…as if the circumstances can’t get any worse…”

You asked for her to please settle down, this was beyond your control once it was made known to be an order in your family!

Financier’s grip on her sword tightens up as she takes deep breathes, indicating the hidden rage that was boiling inside her

“Don’t worry about it, self-discipline is something I need to practice for anyway…just don’t expect me to be cordial with this…fiancé of yours if she steps out of line…”

She went on a long speech about the fairy tale romance of a princess meeting the one she loves being a reality for her. Financier’s self-discipline was TESTED with how much Crowned was putting her hands on you.

Almost as if she sensed it, Crowned Cupcake started to giggle, her back towards the envious crowd of cookies. She turned back towards them, with wide eyes and creepy smile, her right eye twitching.

“Oh? Am I sensing objections between me and my dearest being together…? If that’s the case…”

She put away her staff…before slowly pulling out a sword from behind her, with dry strawberry jam staining the blade, her smile growing more deranged.

Based on calculations regarding the following given facts:

Hampton and Madge have been buds for ~15 ½ years

Madge is three years older than Hampton

They met when Hampton was seven and bonded immediately

One can conclude Hampton is 22/23 years, and Madge is 25/26 years.

James and Archie's ages are similarly not given outright, however:

James arrived in London the same time as a [17/18]-year-old Hampton, met that day. This was 5 years prior.

Archie hated Scotland Yard when he and James met, decided he could fix it after the Matcha Focaccia incident (at which time he was a baker's apprentice). As we know his police career began not-quite-yet-five years ago following the incident, they must've met shortly after James arrived.

This one I may be misremembering, but James and Madge have been "married" for three years.

This does not conclusively tell us anything, but does indicate that neither of them are likely to be younger than Hampton, but are almost certainly still in their 20s.

No word yet on Sarah and Ambrosius.

This is literally more detective work than Fawx & Stallion did in 90% of season 1 so HUGE congrats on that!

I also want to say up front that if any of our canonical information about ages and dates contradict each other, either in season 1, 2, or forward, we will still blame John Watson on the record and not ourselves for any continuity errors we missed. Also, as we always emphasize, anything we say outside of the text of the actual show is only optionally canon--the characters are whatever you want them to be age-wise and we don't think it makes a ton of difference to the reading of who they are.

We tend to imagine the main trio in s1 as in the back half of their 20s coming up on 30 with all of the usual late-20s existential dread of "I need to achieve everything I ever will achieve in my 20s and if I don't do it now I'll crumble to dust" that we, the writers, have been grappling with as semi-recent 30-year-olds. (I personally think Madge’s 15 1/2 year stat was her making up an approximate number in the same way I regularly think 2005 was 10 years ago (yikes), but also, not in the text so only optional canon there!)

James to us sort of exists in that "friend who always side steps when you ask his age and could be 24 or 38" liminal space so maybe we'll never tell you his age, who's to say. Archie was written to be a few years older than the main trio (we viewed him and them as existing on either sides of the 30-year mark). Sarah is probably in her mid-late 20s. Ambrosius is at least 14 but maybe 50 and maybe immortal—the cat he is based on/voices him was adopted when he was we think 11 and is now 16. Our Holmes and Watson are in their mid-30s, met in their mid-20s.

James and Madge did get married around 3 years before s1. The actual “proposal” was between James and Archie though.

Rule of threes though, chuck any of this you don’t like in the bin—and EXCELLENT detective work, anon!

I understand why you don't want to talk about it, every time you touch on something related to black people you get multiple asks and sometimes other TZ blogs correcting or enlightening you so it's fair if you don't want to tackle Kaz and his non-existent relationship with his daughter just in case. Your friend who thinks it's "cruel" to talk about it is insecure about being corrected and she wants to seem progressive at all times so it's predictable she doesn't want to touch on that either

How unnecessary it is to talk about something has never been a problem for you two so I'm not buying it. Suddenly you don't want to look deeper into it and make a long post and she doesn't want to be an asshole? Please

I’ll let @wetheoriginals speak for herself if she wants to. But I have to say that she’s never come across to me as insecure, not when we’ve disagreed or otherwise.

As for the first part of your ask: every time that we go around about the Vogue quote + paraphrase—which was Zendaya saying that if she were romantically involved with any of her costars they’d have to deal with her dad and brothers, implying that the men in her family gatekeep her sexuality—I say (or imply at least) that I can’t stand the idea of men, including male family members, “protecting” daughters, sisters, wives, girlfriends, etc. from other men. I don’t care for any kind of chivalry, really. (I do like non-gendered politeness, however!)

One of the last few times we went around about the Vogue excerpt, a few Black anons wrote in to share that the long history of violence and oppression against Black women, during which they were/sometimes still are left completely vulnerable, lives on in the ways in which some in the Black community conceive of men protecting women—as necessary for survival. I admit it’s still really hard for me to unsee chivalry as “a benevolent sexism that complements hostile sexism,” but I can entertain that my pov is a function of my own identity as a white middleclass woman.

One of the many differences between Tom and Zendaya is that Tom is always talking with great reverence and in detail about his dad’s impact on him, and his dad is literally at this very moment and to some of my followers no doubt selling info about Tom for money. Zendaya hasn’t said much specifically about her dad in a number of years, which is one reason that I bring up that little quote from Vogue every time Kaz comes up.

If I have anything to say about Kaz’s impact on Zendaya, then, it’s around this idea of protection. Kaz and Claire brought her into situations (Hollywood/Disney) that then required him/them to protect her an extra amount, and that’s a kind of control, which becomes ickier when you consider how both have tried to profit off of her success. Even if Zendaya has internalized cultural trauma around being a Black woman, and I do believe that’s possible, the specific dynamic of a dad bringing his minor daughter into an adult world raised the stakes around his protection. What’s more, in some ways Kaz let her down. Every time that “read your contract” and Zendaya’s music career come up I think, well, wasn’t it actually Kaz’s job as manager and father of a minor to read that contract? What exactly happened there?

But I’m not sure how that shows up in Zendaya’s life now because she doesn’t let us see too much. Her choosing Tom—a fairly chivalric boyfriend—is maybe the best indicator that she still thinks she needs or maybe she desires protection from men? 🤷🏻‍♀️

But again, Zendaya isn’t regularly talking about Kaz’s great impact on her and all his words of wisdom that she lives by. Additionally, whatever impact he’s had on her has been colored by whatever sort of falling out they’ve had. She’s probably examined their relationship now that she’s got some distance from it.

For that reason, Zendaya’s relationship with her mom is maybe more interesting?

♡ i wouldn't say steven is also selectively mute per se, but he doesn't talk often unless emotional* or with someone he's comfy with, probably. very stoic and straightforward. due to this, he definitely doesn't mind that you don't talk much - you two probably just bask in eachothers presence wordlessly a lot... but when he hears your voice for the first time, it's a pleasant surprise regardless.

*( RE: strangled... and doors open lol. although those are probably bad examples since its a lot of him going like "MIKI!!!! MIKI!!! GRAAAHHHHHH I HATE PEOPLE GRR WHERES MY MIKI!!!" and also him saying numbers for some reason. which i feel is attributed to bad/stereotypical 'pasta writing so i usually don't consider that part of him, at least for the default current-time steven i write ( which is after all of his pastas and where hes essentially just very tired and depressed and antisocial and doesn't hurt people unless threatened or feeling a need to. my interp of steven was probably more manic in his younger years, which is the implication anyways ). he had an emo phase where he wanted to kill everyone then got over it partially its fine. i put this in an asterisk because i didnt wanna clog the headcanon LMAO )

♡ he's also... somewhat agoraphobic i'd say? but more in the "I fucking hate doing this" rather than the "I am so scared of doing this" way. obviously due to his reputation as Pallet Town cryptid, even if it's been so long that people've probably moved or forgotten him he'll never let his guard down in public. due to this, he's majorly inconvenienced by having to go outside ever which is the reason why he usually stays put in his weirdly large home in the abandoned side of pallet. he also doesn't see reason for going other places much, so you won't have much trouble with him dragging you to places or anything. the comfort of his admittedly worn-down home is enough for him.

♡ also if for some reason you don't like pokemon, or at least wild pokemon, take him with you in the tall grass. it's like having a living repel. realistically, they'd probably just avoid steven and pay attention to you, but it's funnier if he was just like. an anti-pokemon forcefield.

♡ nowadays he also has a low social battery in general, is very moodswingy as seen in literally everything he's in, and is also socially awkward and doesn't like to talk with strangers as much as he used to - which even in his prime, was more of strangers talking at him while he nodded. he's more of a listener. due to this he'll happily listen to you if you feel comfortable talking to him, and he'll nod or hum or make little noises to indicate he's still listening.

♡ the fact that you don't like people watching you is a little troubling to him, because steven, intentionally or not tends to sort of stalk and stare at you from afar. no matter where you go in his home, you usually feel like you are being watched... at least, that's what the barely remaining rumors of him say. he's overprotective over his loved ones, which is an obvious sign of that ( which worsened after the two... incidents ), but he'll try to get better about it around you. mostly, by announcing his presence or trying to make it obvious instead of wordlessly staring at you after silently opening a door or something.

♡ alternatively, if someone is watching you, or even just making eyecontact, steven will basically tell them to fuck off, usually nonverbally ( aka: glaring at people who look at you the wrong way or who look at you too long in general ). this might be More anxiety-inducing for his partner because you probably don't want him to cause trouble or anything, but he's overprotective and also sort of hates being out in the open nowadays too so its a natural defense mechanism along with his overprotectiveness towards you mixing. if you talk to him about it and have a problem w/ it though he'll get a little huffy but will ultimately try to focus on making you comfortable instead of making people who make you uncomfortable feel threatened.

♡ his general aura is still sort of brooding and sometimes threatening though and he's also tall as fuck so he doesn't even have to really put effort into scaring people to leave the two of you alone. they just mostly don't talk to you if stevens around you because he's just... threatening. he has an Aura to him im telling u.

♡ he'll usually hold your hand tight to sort of try and ground/comfort you if you two have to go anywhere publically. he'll try to get over his general dislike of going anywhere publically just to help you whenever you have to go places, if you do. ( he's usually also trying to wear a "disguise" which just means like... a black hoodie w the hood up barely disguising anything. he doesn't have much else lmao ). he'll also literally go out to places himself if you really don't want to. don't wanna go grocery shopping but need to but you are deathly afraid of going at that moment? he'll just throw on his ""disguise"" and go to the nearest pokemart or mall or something. begrudgingly, sure, but it's always worth it for you. just... just make sure to tell him what to get ( or do ) otherwise he'll return with way too little or way too much.

♡ otherwise, if you don't have any reason to go outside and are also afraid of open or crowded spaces, steven is happy to just stay home with you constantly. it may be a little depressing but he's been staying home for years and years at this point. plus, it's less lonely with you around now. you make him feel comfortable, and so he'll do everything to make you feel similar in return.

♡ i like to think the both of you get better with talking, but mostly just with each other. steven doesn't talk a lot so his voice is a little raspy, hoarse ( almost all of the time when he talked a lot is when he's like angry or screaming or crying in the pokepastas lmao ), and sorta quiet, but he gets better the more he talks to you. the two of you probably don't talk often though, being able to communicate well enough with gestures, expressions, that sort of thing. he does enjoy your conversations when you do talk to him though.

♡ he'll also compliment your voice and say that you sound nice and things like that. not to intentionally try to make you talk more, since he's all for your comfort, its just always a pleasant surprise to hear your voice to him, genuinely.

♡ i'm going to project onto reader bc im also selectively mute (??? i think thats what you'd call it) where i barely talk in public unless i literally have to or w/e. so, steven and you not talking much to strangers causes a bit of an issue if anyone asks you a question or tries to talk to you. steven will try to respond for you if it seems you aren't up for it but obviously, he's not a mindreader. he'll usually just shoo whoevers trying to talk to you two off, if neither of you know them. he'll always look at you a bit first to give you time to respond if you want to, and if you don't he'll try to do it for you based on just like. a guess. of course this means a lot of possible miscommunication esp since steven prefers to tell people he doesn't care about ( most people ) to go away, but it works out well enough.

♡ he also does sort of like surprising or scaring people, but he lets up on it for you when he realizes that you probably react badly to that sorta thing. he'll always make his presence known before he hugs you or kisses you or anything, and will also ask consent a lot more. mostly by opening his arms out or just pointing at his lips and tilting his head, cuz he doesn't want to talk much. he's really trying to be thoughtful and caring around you and it shows! he's trying rlly hard <3

♡ ... he probably is concerned of how you'd react to miki, so he tries to not keep her out around you. he'll usually take her outside if he needs to tend to her or anything. a part of him says you deserve to die if you didn't like miki ( his intrusive thoughts / s!3v3n / missingno / whatever you wanna call it rearing its head ), but he's lived long enough to probably go "yk what its sort of fair for people to be afraid of my fucked up dead pet." Only slightly though, he'll still get angry at you if you're like mean or rude to miki if you ever saw her.

♡ if you r fine with her though he'll be surprised but that'll make things a hell of a lot more convenient, since a lot of his day-to-day modern life is just 50% lazing around and barely taking care of himself or doing things arnd his house and 50% taking care of and tending to miki.

♡ miki as said in other hcs is like a pet that is rlly curious and constantly follows you so . Hopefully you aren't scared by her if steven lets her out. if you are she'll feel bad abt it and will whine </3

♡ i think he'd like to try and help you with your issues slightly by like... taking a lot of strolls during the nighttime. it's what he prefers since he's less visible and less people are there to possibly recognize him, and what you'd probably prefer since less people are out. he'll take routes with less people on it intentionally and just look up at the stars and the moon as he walks with your hand in his. it felt right. plus, nobody - pokemon or person - usually bothered you two anyways due to steven's presence, so you two just get to have some nice nighttime strolls. writing this made me think of the latios/latias soar nighttime version in the oras ost aurghghgh.. the soundtrack of u two having romantic casual nightstrolls <3

♡ lots of your lazy days in will be spent cuddling on his couch in the living room or his bed. it's nice! plus he has rlly good hugs, at least after you tell him to stop gripping you so tight.

Hi anon!! Florence + The Machine isn’t my usual type of music but your ask made me 👀👀👀 so I listened to the song and ohmygod. I hope you don’t mind if I write a breakdown of some of the lyrics? I…may have gotten a bit carried away. I’ll stick most of this under a read-more because there is simply Too Much.

ALL RIGHT STRAIGHT OFF THE BAT WE’VE GOT SOME EMOTIONS HERE. I will say it a thousand times, it speaks volumes to me that though Dream is billions of years old and has had a number of lovers, Calliope is the only one he married. As we see in Brief Lives, Dream does sometimes break down. You know that panel of him sitting in his chair with his hand over his face? Yeah. Fuck. As his lover, as his wife, Calliope may have witnessed something like this or at least suspected it. I’m imagining a situation where Orpheus as a young child has an minor accident, and Calliope and Dream have to just. Stop. And cope with the knowledge of his mortality together.

I know that you’re hiding / I know there’s a part of you that I just cannot reach / You don’t have to let me in / Just know that I’m still here

Now this is GOOD SHIT. It goes both ways with these two!!! Dream would never know what it was like to experience the abuse Calliope survived, would never force her to tell him about it. Calliope would never understand the weight of what it means to contain the world’s collective unconscious, to have to be so rigid with yourself to the point of pain. But these lyrics speak to steadfastness. While we don’t see much indication (either comics or show) that they will be there for each other in the future, in the show we see the tenderness between them so clearly in Calliope pressing her cheek to Dream’s, Dream’s eyelids fluttering shut. It’s VERY easy to expand on that and explore in fic and headcanon that they would again forge a supportive relationship—bolstered by the character development Dream has had since their marriage—and work together to try to heal. I’ve written that myself!

HELLOOOOO. Okay, so I know the initial reaction is to probably apply this to Dream, which, yes, he is one proud motherfucker. But I think Calliope certainly has her own share of pride, although not to the extent of her ex-husband. (I’d say in her episode, we see more of the like, self-worth, I-know-what-I-deserve type of pride. Which is good!!! I adore that about her!!!) She did not want to yield over those thousands of years, either. And she will not beg. She will request—may I visit you in the Dream Realm sometime, so that we may finally talk about our son, and grieve him properly?—but she will not beg. But! If Dream gives a little!! So will she!!!

THESE HANDS NOT FIT FOR HOLDING. JESUS CHRIST. This is, of course, a lyric that shouts and screams Dream at me. I am in pain. I’m thinking of the way he says, “I owe you that much.” The word owe stands out to me—I think it may indicate that he has become aware he did not always treat Calliope as she should be treated, and he feels he has to make up for that in some way. I’m thinking about how he says, “I’ve learnt much in recent times,” and how that suggests he may have been reevaluating his role in Orpheus’s fate. How he could have acted differently. And with that, I think it made him consider Calliope’s reproach in a new way. It doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch to me that Dream would feel like his hands are not fit for holding Calliope’s anymore.

ANYWAY. That was a whole lot of probably incoherent chatter and I hope at least you enjoyed reading it, anon. So! This is tumblr generated prompt number 13, and it’s the top one, but I realized I had more than one prompt for Vanessa and Vanny being twins, so I kinda threw them all together, haha. This ended up not being siblings AU, and it’s instead a whole new “everything’s beautiful and nothing hurts” AU!

Here Comes the Chaos

“If you hadn’t told me you were twins, I wouldn’t have even thought you were related,” Gregory said. To Vanessa’s amusement, his expression was all bewilderment, but with a tired sort of twist to it, like he was finding his bafflement inconvenient.

“We get that a lot,” Vanessa admitted, leaning back in her chair, arms crossed.

He huffed. “What’s the point if you can’t even have fun twin shenanigans.”

She shuddered just imagining what sort of chaos Gregory would be capable of if he had an identical twin. The creepy resemblance to the Aftons’ youngest was bad enough. Bless Evan for not being a gremlin, though, or else babysitting the both of them would be twice as hellish. If Michael’s haunted stares were any indication, she had it easy. The perks of being liked by Gregory, she supposed.

They both watched Vanessa’s twin, Vanity, up on the stage. She made for a good pirate, and her reddish-brown hair meant she matched Foxy well. Vanity swung her sword around, nearly taking off another performer’s head. With the regularity that such a close call happened, Vanessa had to hope it was scripted.

Kids gasped and giggled as Vanity strutted across the stage, sword raised dramatically as she declared the treasure map to be pointing in this direction! Foxy had to grab her to keep her from walking straight off the platform.

Gregory suddenly snickered. She glanced at him curiously.

“Just imagining you up there with her,” he said. “You could be the mermaid.”

The STAFF bot stand-in for the mermaid—who was out sick, according to Vanity’s emoji-laden despairing texts earlier—wore a seashell bra and had a cardboard fin tapped in front of its wheels.

“I’d rather die.”

He laughed. “So who got their job first? You or her?”

“Me.” Vanessa smiled slightly, remembering when she’d announced her new place of employment. All through high school, she and Vanity had gotten jobs together—until her night guard gig. Vanity had thrown herself onto the couch like a distraught, fainting maiden, screeching her displeasure to the high heavens when she found out. But because Vanessa was an awesome older sister—by eleven whole minutes; it counted!—she’d pointedly mentioned the pizzaplex was looking to hire new performers to do skits and stuff with the animatronics. Only after her overdramatic sister had finished hollering her woes, of course.

Their parents had always said they were perfect opposites. Vanessa with her introversion and preference for quiet and general dislike of people, especially in large crowds, versus Vanity with her love of being the center of attention and her crazy amounts of energy, both generally and socially. Vanessa had worked backstage in theater class; Vanity had sought the spotlight. Vanessa found a job that had the least amount of human interaction possible; Vanity thrived during meet-and-greets.

That the two of them got along so well—for the most part—was nothing short of a miracle, probably.

Her and Gregory’s conversation was put on pause as the show ended, and the audience started clapping. Kids in the front row were jumping to their feet, shrieking excitedly as Foxy and Vanity tossed some plastic gold coins at them between bows.

Vanessa checked her watch. The brat’s parents would be arriving soon to pick up their hellspawn, so they’d need to get going if Gregory was going to say goodbye to Freddy without feeling rushed.

He interrupted her musings on whether she could take advantage of her employee status and use the employee hallways to get them there quicker—anything to avoid the irritating crowds. “So. Does she kid-sit too?”

A violent shudder spasmed through her. “Absolutely not,” Vanessa blurted out, horrified. “The two of you aren’t ever allowed to meet.” Oh, she shouldn’t have said anything. She shouldn’t have offhandedly pointed Vanity out as they sat down to watch the show. What a fool her past naive self had been. “I forbid—”

“Too late.” Gregory shot forward, sending her a grin fit for the devil over his shoulder. Vanity, who’d clearly been heading over to say hi, drew up to a halt as Gregory intercepted her.

Dismayed, Vanessa watched as like recognized like. Vanity sent her a wild-eyed smile of excitement, one better suited for indicating a cute dog. The end of the world was upon them.

She buried her face in her hands with a groan, slumping further down in her chair. What had she done? Vanessa peeked through her fingers in time to watch Vanity draw her sword with a flourish and promptly hand it to Gregory.

She lunged to her feet with a wheezed-out sound of denial. “No! Nope! No swords for the ten-year-old!”

Vanity smashed into her before she could wrestle it out of the far-too-gleeful child’s hands. “Run, lad!” her traitor twin cried. “I’ll hold ’er off!” And Gregory, the little monster, bolted with a cackle, armed and ready to make that everyone else’s problem.

first off, *thank you* so much for talking about your experiences on this blog, and doing it the way you do! as someone who's been questioning and wavering back and forth on it for a very long time, and only really decided to Claim It within the last six months or so, WOW some of this stuff hit me right between the eyes and both made me feel seen and made some things click.

second, one piece of anecdata that occurred to me that might be helpful re: constantly wanting to change icons, urls, etc: you might feel the opposite in some cases, in that you get *really firmly attached* to things like that and not want to change them for a Long Time. or cling to things that otherwise *don't* change (as far as you can tell) and are as literal as possible, to the point where you don't feel comfortable expressing yourself beyond that.

(i may have to split this one in two since both things are Connected but also seem a bit lengthy to explain in their own right and i'm a bit out of it right now askekdjfh, identifier is 'same icon anon' in advance)

with the second one, for example, there is a very specific sort of... template. amalgam of? average between? the most similar parts of my system (and usually most major players), who are easiest to pass for each other but *are* distinctly different under the hood, and which i know the highest number of people in my life have probably put together as their picture of me from the outside. (which catches me by surprise sometimes, because now and then someone will say something to indicate they get a completely different impression of me from the amalgam i was assuming they see.)

my idea of that amalgam is *heavily* based on... not just my physical appearance, but the common denominator *feels* shaped by my physical appearance. it's hard to explain, but there is a very distinct impression of 'ponytail, glasses, physical expression, clothes i currently wear most often, body shape, gait and posture,' and so on when i think about my *personality.* to the extent that it's easy for it to drown out other things, and i have to pay attention and listen carefully--and usually ask--to tell who's actually driving at the time.

and making picrews for example feels, well. a bit awkward sometimes. i don't feel comfortable adding on extra clothes, styles, accessories, what have you that don't feel *exactly* like me on a very plain, literal level; the most i'm usually alright with is like... backgrounds etc. and it really, really bothers me when there's any aspect that doesn't have an option that feels at least Close Enough. this applies even when i feel like hot garbage and feel like my appearance reflects that; it doesn't feel right to sanitize a version of me that's not Accurate to the amalgam, so i either grit my teeth and go with it anyway or just don't post it at all.

i also get deeply, deeply, deeply uncomfortable with games that are structured to try to make the main character an insert of *you,* but lock you in right at the start--especially when it comes to your name--and make me pick between things that don't really fit the aspects of myself that i feel are solidly specific To Me. including when they don't actually give you enough customization options *to* be specific about that. even when i am genuinely kind of bored of using the same name/avatar every time it makes me *grimace* to be stuck with something different that i don't thoroughly, thoroughly, thoroughly know Is Me. it sucks because there are times where i genuinely would like to be able to play/write/etc from a self-insert pov, and it's less bad with some cases than others, but generally just. NOPE. gotta play an OC or canon character from other media or else.

as mentioned taking a break for a bit before coming back to expand on the other half of it, but if you find yourself clinging *really* hard to things that you *do* feel represent your identity best as a whole, that might be a flag as much as changing things constantly all the time. (especially when you *do* change things constantly that *aren't* encompassed specifically by that, and feel uncomfortable not doing so. and *especially* when you get the feeling that if you let go of The Encompassing Thing You are Clinging To then you won't be able to settle on another one.)

Oh I had a ramble about this on my Discord server some time back, I gotta find that again.

We feel really uncomfortable having our Discord icon be something that I don't like in the moment, as another example.

Actually, this made me think of our cat self identity.

This is how my cat identity looks right now, but he has gone through a lot of changes with his design.

At first, he was just an all black cat, no split tail, no split tongue, nothing really. Here's some much older art from him, as far back as like 2019-2020 or so?

Also shoutout to our old ass art lol.

But yeah his design has changed a lot over the years.

He used to just be a black cat with grey eyes. Then it changed to orange eyes and then slowly more changes were made.

POINT IS his design has changed a lot. And overtime, every time I found myself seeing if I could made purposeful changes to his design, it never felt right. The design changes had to come naturally, if that makes sense? I find myself still, sometimes, if I'm drawing vent art or want to draw vent art, or not even vent art, sometimes I find that it doesn't feel 'right' to draw (he's referred to as eef cat lmfao) eef cat.

Like the other day, with the vent art I shared about my GI issues, it didn't feel right to draw eef cat.

I'm not sure if this is similar to what you're describing, but it made me think about it :3

I personally don't think you should dislike JK based on his perceived backstabbing of Jimin. We don't know what's the nature of their relationship behind the scenes, how much of the current trip is a professional enterprise and to what extent the other members are ok with JK. We simply don't know so I will not assume. Whether they are ok with it or whether they're not, we know BTS never really exposes any fractures to outsiders. Some people take the distance jikook have had during solo era as an indication of something, some people took his trip to NY as an indication of something else. That's why I'll say that without any real info, there's no way to know and we all know how private Jimin is so that info is probably not coming.

But I will dislike JK based on my personal standards. Not by what I assume but by what I can see and hear is happening. To some extent those standards came from being a BTS stan but I can't lie to myself about them just because they are the ones violating those standards today.

I don't agree with how he's conducted himself as an artist. I don't like the song, I don't like the fact that he's engaged in more payola than any other KPop artist ever, I don't like that he's sided himself with someone as vile as Scooter Braun, I don't like how his supposed debut song had no writing credits and no contributions from him, I don't like how even his debut is a collab, I don't like the fact that it's probably a collab because they're angling for a Grammy nom in the duo / groups category and because they thought an American artist would help for the Hot 100, I don't like the fact that he singlehandedly dismantled the legacy of BTS as an organic group, I don't like the thirst for western validation thats wafting off his promo schedule, I don't like the fact that an English album means he'll only have some token writing credits on it if any, I don't like how he's been given such an advantage over other members even though prior to solo era, Jimin's solo songs have consistently done better than JK's and Taehyung is more popular in numbers in most categories.

You're right. I'm also not hating on jungkook because he backstabbed jimin because we don't know jimin's reaction and we'll never know. I know jimin has good relationship with him but that doesn't mean that we will stop fighting for the way jimin was sabotaged and the way jk got everything. We can't forget all this just because jm f*cking smiled at jk.

They have known each other for 10 years. Situations like these must have come a lot in their life in such industry. But I don't think their friendship is that superficial that jm will drop him for that. But that's the case of their personal relationship. I don't care about that. I care about how jimin worked so hard but still got nothing and jk didn't contribute any creativity and still is getting everything.

I am mad about how he chose to play dirty tricks to get to the top. I mean he seriously listened to the song and was like "yeah this song spoke to me" Like it's a joke!

Wtf is monday, tuesday wednesday....... Is it a kids bop or something? He liked this song?! The lyrics were already trash at least they could've made it a bit more catchy. I didn't even listen to the song twice except for the fact that it's been shoved down my throat.

Jungkook himself said in his white day live said something like he knows that armies would support him even if he sometimes does bad, and that's where his confidence comes from. He said something like this. Like seriously?! If he was a sincere, hard working artist he would always give his all to give his fans a good song.

He chose to not work hard and use the easy way. Scooter is another b"tch like I despise that man. And yeah he needed a collab even for his debut song. Atleast that he should've done alone. God either he just doesn't trust his own talent or he's just not talented enough to carry it on his own.

But I don't think so. He released a song like 'Still with you'. Like come on. When he can release songs like that how come a song like seven spoke to him?!

Just shows that he knows this kind of song is perfect for the Western market and he just jumped on it and took everything scooter and bang pd gave him on a silver platter. How can someone respect him as an artist after this?

Like did Elias take him to see a psychologist as a child like in the comics where he was diagnosed or did he find out later? I really want to know how long he's known he has DID

like, the closest i could think of him finding out would be around 10 probs, if his dad takes him to a psychologist like in the comics (which side note, was so fucking well integrated and didnt feel stupid or forced literally marvel you could have just done this) or latest? honestly after his mom's death? like that event perpetuates a lot of things. and maybe the fact that he finds himself blacking out more and more prompts him to seek a diagnosis (even if he wasnt looking for a did diagnosis specifically).

mmm but then who was steven calling. i always assumed marc set up a number to call.

but then theres also khonshu saying his mind is broken or w/e and marc doesnt give an indication of either "wtf how did you know" or "wtf what are you talking about". and then theres marc saying he made the deal to "save us". but that might have been an after the fact realisation.

HONESTLY MAYBE HE ONLY FINDS OUT CAUSE KHONSHU IS MESSING AROUND IN THERE. khonshu finds this funny british guy bouncing around in his head and hes like "omg marc check this out" and marc has a whole existential crisis about it. so when khonshu finds ANOTHER guy in there hes like "yk im just gonna. keep quiet about this one" and silently feeds him snacks on the side.

cause he also doesnt mention getting booted from the army for a botched psych eval iirc!!! cant lie in an evaluation if you dont know what you have. maybe getting kicked out for the dissociative fugue state incident is what motivates him to get a diagnosis. maybe its mandated after the event. idk enough about military protocol to speak on that.

all is to say marc is definitely aware To Some Degree of what is going on with him, he just probably doesnt have a name for it. which is like. fine. diagnosis is helpful but its not the be all and end all of experience.

i think in any of these scenarios, at least when he was younger it was a lot easier to understand as an "imaginary friends" situation and maybe that faded as he grew up maybe it didnt IDK.

ok so tldr

situations where he would have gotten some kind of diagnosis that would be the most interest story-wise IMO

young, around 8-10 - follows the comics completely, has him spend most of his early life some degree of institutionalised (would explain his mental association with mental hospitals)

post military discharge - pretty big point in his backstory, would work to really solidify the shame he feels around his mental illness (being very public and on record and all that) and would make sense as there would probably be some kind of investigation into the incident that would lead to a diagnosis

post-steven's reappearance - would be the culmination of a Lot of things happening in his life to the point that even stubborn marc spector can't cope and seeks out help. would explain why layla didnt know as i personally believe he cuts contact with her after his mom's shiva. does bring into question a lot of the more solid aspects of steven's life tho, like the phone calls.

I find it interesting that people see Ashton and Laudna and are like "They must be in pain all the time and are suffering" because Ashton and Laudna have the physical scars of their suffering. They are sympathetic to them. But they do not afford the same sympathy to Imogen, who is also suffering. It's not visible with her, so therefore, even though she has to actively repress other peoples thoughts and doesn't really get much sleep, she be fine Fine and therefore is OK. When she is very much Not Fine and Not Ok, just practiced at having to deal with it every damn day (at least, that's how I have interpreted Laura's RP. Please correct me if I am wrong).

I think you are correct about Laura's RP - it's quite obvious that Imogen struggles a lot with her powers. While I haven't seen it as much lately, there was also a lot of focus early on about Ashton, with a lot of headcanons regarding disability that I haven't seen as much lately - possibly because there's been nothing confirmed in canon - and it's true that the character design probably contributed to that.

Here's the thing though: early on? People loved focusing on poor Imogen and her headaches and how tiring it is for her to be around people and oh won't Laudna kiss it better...until Imogen got mad at Laudna. (And, to a lesser extent, when Imogen got mad at FCG, because that set off an alarm that Imogen was going to be played as a person with feelings and thoughts who might deviate from the set plan they had in their head for her).

I think a lot of people have decided who their favorite character is, and they pick that for all kinds of reasons. The problem is many of those people then say "my favorite character is correct, all the time, and here's the character who should be their romantic partner, and whether or not I have any scrap of sympathy for other characters is entirely conditional on whether they are worshiping the ground on which my favorite character walks and only serving my favorite character's story." Design doesn't enter into it. Backstory gets thrown out the window. In the end, that is their only motivator.

I realize how incredibly cynical this sounds but I have, on some level, done the math. I've spent all day saying "ok, so you're saying a warlock who has undergone severe trauma may have made made a pact under circumstances in which they could not freely give consent, and they have complicated feelings about this, and you are citing that as your reasoning for why they are the most sympathetic person here. Cool. So where's your meta about how hard things were for Fjord?" And notably, no one has taken me up on it, because they don't have it, because the facts don't matter. And it's not limited to that; I've been using Fjord as an example both because he often got a very raw deal from the fandom and because of the very obvious warlock parallels, but like, people were mad that time was spent on Keyleth's Aramente (because they didn't like Keyleth), or that the Mighty Nein didn't drop everything to take Caleb to Duasad Keef (a person only revealed at the time in the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount).

If it the reason were that Imogen doesn't have physical markers of her pain (which...in and of itself is not a great way to be given the sheer number of not-readily-apparent mental and chronic illnesses that do not have clear visible indicators), then you'd think the response to Imogen, you know, literally waking up gasping and crying from nightmares would serve the same purpose as a physical scar, and that would be taken into account. But it's not. Because it's not about who's experienced pain or trauma, visible or no. It's barely connected to what's happening onscreen after the first few episodes when they imprint on this character like a baby chick who sends dumb anon messages. It's "she is disagreeing with Laudna and pulling focus from Laudna and therefore she is bad."

Here is the thing in the end: the post I made that kicked this all off ended with a follows: "these [Imogen and Laudna] are two fully realized people with feelings and priorities of their own." And people found that inherently invalidating, because they are threatened by the idea that Imogen is a fully realized character with feelings and priorities of her own, because then she can be a fully realized character with priorities separate from Laudna's. She can be a character with feelings that are not positive towards Laudna. She can be a character who gets angry at Laudna. And they hate that, and it's that simple.

it's definitely possible! it's relatively common (at least in my experience) for people with one personality disorder to meet the criteria for at least one other

according to this co-occurrence chart from the personality disorder wikipedia page (which is outdated but probably not too far off from current numbers), 39% of people diagnosed with bpd also qualify for an avpd diagnosis

i definitely wouldn't just use what i've said as an indication since i'm far from an expert, but if you've done a good amount of research and both consistently sound like you, you definitely could have both!

This might sound like a dumb question, but when you were gaining weight and ended up with your diagnosis, what was your diet like? Was being overweight enough of an issue on its own to cause it? Or was it more related to a high sugar diet for example? The type of gain (i’ve seen things where if your weight is centred on a beer gut its more risky than an overall stocky body for example)?

I guess I’m reevaluating my own lifestyle because i at least assumed that when people talk about risk of diabetes as you gain weight, it was just a thing doctors say to scare you and its more of a concern when you actually start hitting the much larger numbers. I’m not as big as you were (not sure what your weight was but visually at least) but i’ll admit i have a sweet tooth and my diet is very sugar and fat heavy, with the weight creeping up over time. I guess hearing your story has frightened me a bit and i should be more thoughtful about my diet instead of being in denial that i’ll be fine if i just don’t go over 20 stone 😅

Not a dumb question at all and I’m always happy to help others with advice and tips from my story. I hope you find this helpful!

Regarding my own diagnosis numerous factors were at play. I had gained a lot of weight in a short period of time between 2020 and 2021 - around 40 lbs (I was 265 at max for reference). And I was on a very carb / sugar heavy diet because I enjoyed it and like you had a sweet tooth. But I also have a family history of diabetes and a mum with Type 1, so I was always predisposed and at risk of getting diabetes. But I naively probably thought as well that it wouldn’t happen to me and wasn’t as vigilant as I could have been and by the time I realised it was too late. That’s my own fault and responsibility though. The other factor was that it was 2021 when we were in lockdown for long periods of time, and I wasn’t active enough. When you eat carbs / sugar, doing activity afterwards helps to burn off any excess. I wasn’t doing the activity and therefore my body had to cope with too much glucose and the pancreas couldn’t cope. Other things to consider is different ethnicities seem more predisposed as well to getting it, so something to be mindful of.

Doctors are a wee bit biased still against overweight people regardless of their overall health, but don’t dismiss them entirely. However, when I had my first checkup that confirmed I was no longer diabetic and was now 210lbs - I had reversed my diabetes, cured my heartburn, my heart rate was down to 60 beats per minute, and yet the doctor still said I had to lose another 20kg for no other reason than my BMI was still high, even though I was healthy. So doctors can still get hung up on BMI, but you know yourself how healthy you are, that’s what I’ll say here.

Finally, if you’re concerned, get yourself a blood glucose kit - I really wish I had done this sooner. I appreciate it’s more expensive in the States (not sure where you are though). Here in Scotland it’s a wee bit expensive, but good nonetheless for checking every other week. What you do is when you wake up, before you eat or drink anything, do a blood glucose check for your “fasting sugars”. This will be a good indicator of whether or not you are healthy, pre-diabetic, or in a diabetic range. That way if you start to enter the pre-diabetic stage, you can take steps to reduce your carb / sugar intake for a bit to get yourself to a more normal level (if that’s what you choose to do). If you are diabetic, then that’s okay too, nothing to panic about surprisingly - you can manage it, and it is possible to reverse type 2 like me. I’d say watch out for the symptoms. If you are hyperglycaemic (high blood sugar) then a big give away symptom is feeling you need to pee a lot and a constant thirst despite this - I only had that symptom one night, but doesn’t matter, that was a sign.

I wanted to wait until the finale aired to answer this, and also I’m screenshotting so I can avoid the search, and I’m only tagging this with my tumblr savior tags so anon can see this even if they have the jt ship tag blocked. Also, I am a multishipper, I ship bh and jt and bjt and bt, and my desires for canon are based more on what I think works within the story we currently have as well as what treats Tabitha well and avoids racist tropes.

Now then, I do think bhva have a chance of coming back because I don’t think anything is set on this show until the last episode is over, and there are a number of ways this could play out for each pair.

Let’s talk ba first, because how ba goes is tied to va and bh in some capacity

1.) The ba engagement is an indication of endgame and s7 will be Riverdale playing with ba and va, likely with ba as first love but in some way tangled up with va.

2.) The above is true, but the “tangled up with va” leads to an ot3 and not ba alone.

3.) Someone on twitter said that no couple that gets engaged in the penultimate season ends up together, and I think that’s a fair point, although idk if I’ve watched enough live action American tv shows to say one way or the other. In this situation, ba don’t end up together, and however they play with ba and va ends in va, Betty/Veronica, or some other combo of the characters being single and in various relationships (Betty/Reggie, anyone?). In this scenario, I would especially keep an eye on the possibility of Betty/Veronica.

Now let’s talk jt and bh, and keep in mind that Jughead remembers his previous life and Tabitha is somewhere that creates an “echo” of the fact that she wasn’t in the high school seasons

A.) Jughead’s feelings for Tabitha and the vision of their future together are either the primary or two of the primary drives for Jughead to find her and/or a way home to regular Riverdale, and yadda yadda yadda they end up together. This is compatible with scenarios 1, 2, and 3.

B.) The vision of Jughead and Tabitha’s future together is more of a goodbye to the ship in the narrative than something to fight for. The ba/va stuff is happening ala scenario 3, and also Jughead and Betty investigate or whatever and fall in love again. I have no idea what happens to Tabitha or Jughead’s feelings for Tabitha here.

Any combo of 1-3 & A and 3 & B is possible, and I’m not confident enough in my ability to predict Riverdale to say one way or the other. Like, I think the only things I’ve gotten right are “Jughead and Tabitha will definitely date at some point in s5 for an unknown period of time” (made after 5x11 aired), “Jughead and Tabitha will still be romantically tied at the end of s6” (made after 6x12 aired), and “Jughead will get his hearing back before s6 ends” (made after we learned he would have hearing loss). And, like, getting only three predictions right over four and a half seasons, one of which is based only on lack of confidence in the writers more than the actual writing, is a pretty bad track record, and you’ll notice that the two that aren’t based on writer incompetence/fuckery were made halfway through the season. I’ll probably have a more confident answer for you then, but that’s at least like nine or ten months from now, and even then I doubt I’ll be *certain* because certainty and I don’t often exist in the same space.

I will say, though, that I’m not quite sure how people experiencing being teenagers again but with possibly tweaked backstories and having relationships there will affect their decisions as adults with their original backstories–because I assume we’re going back to the real world in the end, although I could be wrong there because of my less-than-stellar track record. I’m rooting for a change in the ba/va situation though, except for the ot3 option, I can’t handle that in a ship that has such harem anime vibes, like I can’t do it, I’m not strong enough, it repels me.

Anyway, I think scenario B is less likely than A, just because Jughead *does* remember his relationship with Tabitha and the future he saw, and it would be weird and kind of dickish for him to just give up on her and it and move on to his ex who currently thinks she’s a teenager, especially if it’s while he’s fighting to get back to regular Riverdale. Bh would have a *much* better chance if Jughead didn’t have his memory either. But Betty does have that James Dean poster, who is more visually similar to Jughead than Archie, and they do have *so much* history, so I’m not going to count them out.

But also I don’t see a way to have Jughead move on from his feelings for Tabitha and instead fall for a version of Betty without making him look like an asshole, unless he’s given up on both finding her in this time *and* getting home to her after like at least a year of trying, which, if you’re gonna do that, why have him remember in the first place? And also, Betty thinks she’s a teen and is presumably different from real life Betty, both adult and teen, while Jughead is the same and thinks he’s an adult, and I just think that romance would be weird; like, it wouldn’t be inappropriate or gross, I’m not saying that, but I do think it would be, like, a weird thing for Jughead to do. Anyway, I especially don’t see a good way of doing this without it being deeply unfair to Tabitha outside of killing her, and RAS has indicated that she will still be in the show, so that’s off the table. In my opinion, it’s important to ensure that Tabitha is treated fairly, just as it’s important to make sure that Veronica is treated fairly and not just given the bullshit racist “yeah, she wants love, but she should just be a #girlboss who doesn’t need a man!” ending and just as it’s important for Betty to not succumb to suburbia and/or even slightly turn into either of her parents (unless we’re going for a Bad End, but that would be extremely depressing). But, like, right now they’re doing the opposite of both of the latter, so who knows about the former.

If I *have* to make a guess based on the information we have now, I’ll guess Cheryl/Toni, Kevin/Moose, and to a lesser extent Jughead/Tabitha endgame, but I am still unable to guess what would happen with ba/va, but I do assume that there will be at least bait/crumbs for bh in a few episodes. But the only one I’m 99.999% certain of is Cheryl/Toni because of the whole fated soulmates across time thing, although I’m at like 70% on Kevin/Moose just because RAS seems to truly love that one and has loved it since day 1. Jughead/Tabitha is at, like, 35-45% confidence tops

Now I’m gonna throw this over to @elegant-force for her thoughts, printed here because it’s easiest, because she’s less biased than I am:

So, frankly, I’m not super confident in my predictions here. Just going to start off with that. I used to think I understood the general character of the writers’ room for Riverdale, but that hasn’t been true since about Season 4. I don’t have much insight into how their decision-making process works at this point or what values/ideals/principles they have as guiding lights for the show/narratives/characterizations.

I used to think that the show was purposefully really thoughtful about picking relationships and committing to them so that it could save time for the plot and for other characterization arcs, rather than wasting time on predictable garbage you could find on any tired daytime soap opera. But that’s definitely not what we’re doing at this stage.

Frankly, my opinion is that the writers saw that fans were invested in the ships, and decided that because of this, messing with them would be an easier way to keep fans “on the hook” than writing a story that people actually could engage with. Instead of caring about the crafting of good relationships or interesting narratives, they seem to have become about “The bas vs. The bhs” or “The vas vs. the bas” or the “How are the Cheryl/Tonis going to feel about X?”

And I think it’s all incredibly manipulative and, frankly, outrageously sexist. I’ve never seen a show or other work of media purposefully play with and manipulate (both in the narrative and on social media) something that fans were so invested in regarding a work that was targeted primarily at men. I’ve never seen Marvel be like “Maybe next time we’ll decide that Captain America has laser vision and Iron Man is a sorcerer… not like just for a fun lark, but like for real, this is who they are now in the comics, forget all of the time you spent learning about and talking about their powers with other nerds” because if they did that sort of shit, people would be really mad at them and feel like their narrative expectations were betrayed. And it just feels disrespectful to fans to do that sort of thing. But for some reason, when it’s women and the things that they are invested in are relationships you’ve put work into over the course of the show, blowing them up with little to no explanation and using them to manipulate viewership is just normal.

And I’m sort of annoyed that everyone is buying into it to this degree. It frankly seems like every fucking comment from the writers about a ship is meant to be a tease to keep us on the hook and it’s fucking rude. It’s been a huge turn-off for me in terms of investment because the manipulation is so obvious and sloppy.

But you asked for my predictions and here they are.

I’ve listed some of the current couples that were asked about as well as some other options I think are likely:

1.) Betty/Archie

So, I have to wonder why, if we wanted to do this as endgame, we were going to have another season of messing around with the triangle stuff. We got here, they were going to get married, then we all got hit with the Retcomet. Essentially, our relationships were retconned, so either this is about us fighting our way back to our “perfect endings” or we’re going to redo some stuff.

I don’t think that Betty had a perfect ending to fight her way back to. I think the only person in that category is Jughead (and notably, he remembers his old future). She basically had decided that the job she’d wanted her entire life wasn’t worth it and that she just wanted to be a wife or whatever after graduating top of her class at Yale. It doesn’t make a ton of sense to me that she’d throw everything she’d worked for her entire life in the garbage and that the audience was supposed to think that was good.

I also think that Polly having to wash her “sins” off of her rather than her accepting herself and being loved for who she is darkness included was so fucking gross. Like Betty needed to accept herself and also feel as if Archie accepted her without her former cultist sister doing some weird fake religious bullshit on her to trick her into doing it (this is so what happened, just because Polly was dead for a little bit doesn’t mean she can purify people, she was pulling old cultist tricks out of her pocket and we all know it). Betty only saw herself as a threat because she thought she was one. Polly tricked her out of it. Simple as that.

I honestly think we may come to find out that the reason Jughead remembers and the others don’t is that on some level, the others wanted to forget because they were unhappy with where they were. If Cheryl using the combined powers of all of the others really did, as Jughead implies, send them back due to some sort of manifestation of their wills, then it makes sense to me that part of what Veronica may have absorbed was their collective discontent with their situations and this reset is all of them trying to go back and change the things they did wrong. Especially if this is the case, I don’t see a lot of hope for Betty/Archie endgame. Even if that’s not the reason Jughead remembers when no one else does (if it’s just his writer powers or whatever), I still think resetting and then doing the thing we’re doing now with them doesn’t make a lot of sense. I think it’s possible that we go back and forth and eventually land on this if the bas scream loud enough online, though. I do think online screaming is the main thing determining what the show does.

Probability: 10-20%

2.) Betty/Veronica

This is what I think is the best narrative option if we want to really wipe the slate clean with whatever is happening in S7 1955 land. I think that if the show really doesn’t want to play the traditional Betty/Archie/Veronica love triangle, they can lean into Betty and Veronica’s relationship and build that up. We’ve already introduced the concept of Betty being bisexual with her relationship with Agent Drake and we also had Cheryl and Veronica’s super hot (and very long) kiss at the end of S6. So, I think if we really wanted to go this way, we could.

I think it’s a great answer to them both wanting to be in a relationship with someone they love and care about and know. And I also think, at this point, Archie is irredeemably awful. He asked his ex that he broke up with less than a year ago to help him pick a ring for his new girlfriend. He sucks. He just fucking sucks. It’s gross beyond my ability to describe.

But on that point, Veronica has shown true and unconditional love for Betty. She’s never held the cheating against Betty. When Archie asked her for a ring, she already had one that she thought would be perfect for Betty. She has been there for Betty whenever Betty has needed her. And while, prior to S6, Betty hadn’t always reciprocated, I think that her coming up with the idea for Veronica to kiss Archie and letting her do that was proof that Betty is also willing to take risks and make sacrifices for Veronica as well. I don’t think it was easy for her to do that, because she’s always been insecure about Archie and Veronica, but she did it because she loves Veronica enough to overcome those insecurities. I can’t say that about her feelings for Archie, or maybe even the feelings she had for Jughead. I think that Veronica has done more to help Betty deal with and overcome her insecurities than anyone else in the show. I wish that we could see Betty support and help Veronica more, and I really hope that regardless of what the show decides to do, we do more of that in the final season.

Probability: 10-20%

I don’t think that we’re going to do this, just because the show really seems to think that Archie is a good person who deserves love. I disagree with this, but I’m not in the writers’ room. I think he should end up single and alone due to his inability to treat women with any sort of respect. But that’s just me. I think that if the show still cares about crafting a good narrative or things having any sort of thematic resonance or meaning, this is what they’ll do. But I just don’t think it’s likely.

3.) Betty/Archie/Veronica

I like this option way less, but I think it’s fairly likely. It’s another reason we could have set up Betty and Veronica being bi, and I think it’s what the show would like to do. And the reason I think it’s what the show would like to do is that the writers, like Archie, can’t choose between Betty/Archie and Veronica/Archie. And I think the writers can’t choose because they have gotten so into playing with the shippers that they can no longer think of a way to make a satisfying ending where Archie ends up with one of these women.

So, what’s the best solution? To not have to choose, of course. And then they get “points” for being “daring” and “innovative” to have a thruple as the main relationship in their show. They’ll think it will make the fewest people upset and that it will get them a lot of social media attention. And I think that’s honestly all they want: attention that isn’t mostly negative. Maybe that’s deeply cynical of me, but it’s the main common factor I’ve seen in their decision making at this point.

I do think this could be done well, but I don’t think they will do it that way. I think it really only works if the triangle changes to be a full love triangle (ie: with each person being attracted to both other people in the triangle) and if the thruple puts Veronica mostly in the center. I think we still have to spend most of the season focused on the relationship between Betty and Veronica. I think we also have to embrace the part of Betty that seems to really not want a traditional family or maternal role, but maybe just wants to live with people she is comfortable with and attracted to that she can have sex with. I think that if the end dynamic has househusband/primary caregiver Archie taking care of kids that he and Veronica had together and Betty is part of it but doesn’t have to engage with the domestic things she dislikes, that’s fine.

What isn’t okay is for this to become an Archie-centric triangle that functions as a mini-harem for him. It can’t just be Archie now sleeps with two women and sometimes watches them have sex because he’s just such a great guy he deserved this because for a white guy not choosing means eventually getting everything you want. That’s fucking gross, but I’m afraid they’ll be careless about it and that’s what will happen.

Probability: 30-40%

4.) Veronica/Archie

I think this is slightly more likely than Betty/Archie if Jughead has kept his memories because he’s the only one who doesn’t have regrets. I think it’s possible that Archie still wants to be with Veronica and we know Veronica still wants to be with Archie. She’s only not going for it because she loves Betty more than she wants to be with Archie. I think that in a reset where it’s clear Betty has another path to happiness, Veronica/Archie has a chance.

Probability: 30-40%

5.) Betty/Jughead

Honestly, I think this really hinges on why Jughead kept his memories. If it’s because he doesn’t have regrets and wants to get back to the future he saw with Tabitha, then there’s no way that bh is going to happen. I think, at best, what bh gets in this setting is a chance to end cleanly and in a way that both of them move on from that’s healthy. And, frankly, I think there could be a lot of good in that. I think the writers could give this ship the respect it deserves and acknowledge what it meant to both Betty and Jughead, without them having to get back together. I think we could have them date briefly or just spend time together as friends and acknowledge what could have been in a way that isn’t just shitting all over this pairing and/or teasing it with no real hope of follow-through just to keep the shippers on the hook. And I think that would be really nice.

I think that if Jughead kept his memories as a fluke/due to his writer powers, then I guess we could go back to bh. I think you really have to come up with a good reason that we’re not going to have him try to get back to Tabitha though. Also, I think that the writers know if they throw his relationship with Tabitha in the garbage at this point, it’s just super fucking racist. And they don’t want people to accuse them of being racist on the internet (especially when the accusations are credible), so they probably won’t do it.

Probability: 10-20%

(If Jughead didn’t have his memories, I would have put the odds of this ship at 60-80%, frankly. If he didn’t remember Tabitha, I would have seen the time-compressed date as a good final send-off for Jughead/Tabitha, proof that they could have had a beautiful life together but we weren’t able to do that because of the comet coming and tearing us apart and destroying all of the memories that we built together. It would have been sort of rude to Tabitha, but I would have definitely accepted it as a perfectly good ending for the ship and felt like it was done justice. But I just can’t see a good reason for Jughead to keep his memories if the point isn’t for him to try to get back to Tabitha somehow.)

6.) Jughead/Tabitha

We really invested in them over the last few seasons. I think that if we wanted to break them up, we would have just had Jughead lose his memories as well. There’s no real reason for him to have kept them, certainly no reason he had to that I can see from a writing perspective, unless it was to preserve his relationship with Tabitha (because that didn’t exist in high school).

I do think it’s really hard for them not to follow through on Jughead/Tabitha without looking really racist, frankly. And I think the writers care about that. And I think they should. I also think them backing out at this point is straight up bad writing, even if it’s to go back to bh. I think the window on going back to bh closed a while ago, and now we’re just shipbaiting the fans. I think jt has a good chance to be endgame, though I don’t know how much of it we’ll be seeing during this season, because I don’t know what Tabitha’s exact situation is.

Probability: 50-70%

7.) Moose/Kevin

I really used to hate this ship. A lot. I was really sad when Joaquin died because I knew in my heart it meant that RAS was never going to let go of Moose/Kevin. I never really trusted Kevin/Fangs because every time RAS has had the opportunity to go back to Moose/Kevin, he has done so as quickly as he fucking can. He’s really invested in this, so I just think we’re going to get it as long as Moose’s actor is willing to be here.

Though, honestly, I’ve come to like this ship a lot more in the last season. Every other ship is so garbage (except jt, which is cute) that they’re actually fine and even endearing now. Moose is also less toxic, which is good, and he’s really supportive of Kevin. And heaven knows that boy needs all the support he can get.

Probability: 70-90%

8.) Cheryl/Toni Dude. Cheryl’s best childhood lesbian friend broke up with Cheryl because she saw their love written in the stars. There’s not much more of a guarantee than that.

Also their fans have been as loud as possible about the fact that their ship has been done so dirty in so many ways, and frankly, they were right to say it. The writers seem to know they done fucked up in splitting these two up for so long. Really looking forward to seeing them as 50s lesbians.

Probability: 99% (because there’s no such thing as certainty with these motherfuckers)

Ah, the irony of asking this of someone with medical memory issues. xD

My very first rp memory is from when I was like 13 and stumbled across Ayenee (those old enough to remember it will know how chaotic that mess was) - essentially a series of multigenre IRC public rooms where people with a huge variety of original and fandom characters all met up and interacted with each other, often in bars and taverns for the majority of the rooms I found myself welcomed in. It was fun, but that was also very much back in the 'Wild West' days of those kinds of chatrooms, being in the late 90s.

My first tumblr rp memory is actually of a brief failed attempt at getting involved in the Dragon Age rpc, but it was years later before I tried again with bringing Layla (immortaljackal) in that I had any actual success, and then the numerous other blogs with various canon and canon-based or inspired muses came from there. What I actually did in any of that, though? Fuck all if I know at this point. I could go digging up the old archived blogs (at least of the ones that still exist), but eh...

Sci-fi and fantasy, for the most part. Which types of those, respectively, varies depending on my mood sometimes, but given that my most consistent stuff is leading with Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Doctor Who, that should be a fair indicator for the most part.

🛳 my opinions on DNI lists

They have their place, within reason - banning faceclaims, characters, fandoms, adult content, triggering and/or squicky content, etc? Perfectly fine and reasonable. Airing grievances with other roleplayers by listing their URLs and telling people they better not interact with them or you'll block them (and probably add them to the list of names as well with a vague callout that often just blows everything out of proportion)? That's immature and uncalled for, and I personally won't follow or interact with people who have DNIs that namedrop other roleplayers.

Pfft... Nah, umm... I honestly don't know? I mean, I tend to be a very private person ooc until I've warmed up to someone, then I'm practically an open book - albeit a book with some pages torn out and lots of coffee stains making other pages illegible (ie the memory issues I have). Things I actively want people to know, I usually have in my rules, since that's something everyone following me should read.

But like... uh... I'm really socially awkward, between the social anxiety disorder, ADHD, potential autism, other neurodivergences, and all that jazz? Yet there are somehow people who are intimidated by me?

My dudes, I sleep with a stuffed Grim Reaper, and have a crochetted F-Bomb that I throw at the wall when I'm frustrated. I also have a crochetted adipose and weeping angel chilling on my desk, and a sticky note with a doodle of the TARDIS surrounded by "vorp vorp" noises stuck to my wall. I walk with a cane or a rollator, and will sometimes break into song and dance when I'm having a not absolutely shitty day while I'm by myself, twirling the cane or spinning with the rollator (whichever I happen to be using at the time) - 'Singing In The Rain' is a popular number for such.

The only time I even feel remotely intimidating is when I have to pull out the Customer Service Voice, which usually gets combined a dash Southern overpoliteness. Unless it's the the Southern politeness that's weirding people out? I mean, maybe? Eh. Someone can always tell me on anon if they want.

hello anon, you must have seen my post nitpicking how j bruce ismays character was handled in the titanic movie when i very briefly mentioned the philosophy of lifeboats thing because I Was Being Petty lmao

but yeah so this is gonna be a dumb-downed explanation about a topic thats fairly complex. also im just not gonna get into the debacle of liferafts because im gonna try and keep it simple.

[edit: i have very much failed at keeping it short or simple so if you are interested, come join me after the cut]

see, its only really been within the last century or so that weve regarded lifeboats as things you can escape a sinking ship on and remain within until rescue arrives.

which sounds kinda insane when thinking about it from a modern point of view, right? like in regards to modern sinking incidents or disasters at sea like say the ms achille lauro, msc napoli, ms estonia or even the ss henry steinbrenner to go back to 1953, the story of the rescue is the passengers board the lifeboats, get a safe distance away from the sinking ship and wait for rescue. and nowadays, if this occurs to you, your chance of survival is fairly high.

so its understandable for people to initially be confused as to why this is a modern school of thought as it seems very logical and is what the namesake implies. and for that, we have to put this into the context of the developments within lifeboat technology.

and im aware of how pretentious that sounds, but its a very important part of this discussion.

to start, im unfortunately going to have use the titanic as an example because its the only point of reference for most people.

when we look back at the titanic today, we can very easily criticise white star line and harland & wolff simply for not including enough lifeboats on board. and while those are not undue criticisms, they are unduly harsh.

yes, it is ridiculous to not have enough lifeboats on board for all passengers, but back in the 1910s, naval architects found it ridiculous to suggest ships should have that many.

because this is what titanics lifeboats looked like:

compared to modern day lifeboats:

now, you might notice just how different these are: modern day lifeboats tend to be enclosed; they are made of sturdier material; theyre much more buoyant; they have radios on board; are at significantly less risk of capsizing; are legally mandated to come with a sea anchor that can be used to steady your boat; and often can operate under their own power.

also, your ship probably had an epirb (emergency position-indicating radio beacon) or something similar that sent out an automatic distress signal if you werent able to do so yourself.

modern lifeboats can withstand the tumultuous nature of the ocean for a, relatively speaking, very long time and that allows for rescue. thats why people are sometimes rescued from a lifeboat several days after a shipwreck and why rescuers can sometimes be conservative in their rescue, such as waiting for the weather to clear up before approaching.

if youre nearer the equator, you could likely survive weeks within a lifeboat if rescuers either couldnt find you or couldnt reach you.

but thats not always been the case.

for a long time, lifeboats were these tiny, rickety, wooden boats (as seen in those photos above) that were easily capsized or sank if they came into contact with even the smallest of waves.

if you needed to sail further from the sinking ship or toward land, you would have to do it with wooden paddles and depending on the state of rescue, you might not even have them. your methods of communication were a limited number of flares where you couldnt be sure theyd even work, rocket flares that again night not even work, a torch, a whistle, or just shouting which rarely ever helped.

so even if you could evacuate safely onto a lifeboat, there was no guarantee that youd be able to signal down another ship or potentially an aircraft.

if you werent able to send out a distress signal or were just on a ship that didnt have the technology to do so, no one would know you were in trouble for hours, if you were lucky. for some, it took days or even weeks.

at approximately 2:15am on the 30 november 1966, the ss daniel j morrell broke in half on lake huron. she was not reported missing for ten hours, after which the coast guard dispatched search and rescue vessels. among the 29 crew aboard, only 1 man survived: dennis hale. he was rescued after nearly 14 hours in a liferaft wherein a further 3 men had passed while waiting for rescue. during those 14 hours, the liferaft had been capsized multiple times sending the few survivors into the freezing waters over and over again. [x]

or for an even more extreme example, take the ss naronic. she set sail on 11th february 1893 from liverpool; she was expected to arrive in new york around the 21st february. she never did arrive, and as this was 5 years before the marconi wireless set would be available on ships, the crew could not put out a distress signal. as the ocean was experiencing bad storms, there was no worry about the ship to begin with as it was presumed she was delayed. it took until the 13 march before any alarms were raised. by then, 74 lives had been lost, and to this day, we dont know anything about why she disappeared. its presumed she sank, but no wreck has been found. while her lifeboats were found, that wasnt the case for survivors. [x]

and even if you were lucky enough to have sent out a distress signal, be relatively safe aboard a lifeboat and have ample methods for communicating, you were still at the mercy of the sea. rescue was coming, but there was no guarantee your lifeboat would stay afloat until it arrived.

it was miraculous that titanics lifeboats were able to stay afloat until the carpathia arrived, and that was only around an hour and a half after the titanic had gone down. because this happened in the north atlantic; any other night, the number of casualties would have been significantly higher because those lifeboats would not have survived in rough seas or a storm.

titanic was the exception to the rule; it was the odd duck. and to exemplify this, lets talk about the clallam, the ss valencia and the ss princess sophia.

quick warning about these ships: these were very tragic incidents with monumental loss of life. out of the approximately 608 people who were aboard one of the three ships, only 83 people survived.

(the ss princess sophia is a particularly tragic incident and its one that has made me cry multiple times so just a warning with that.)

we'll begin with the clallam which was a steamboat that ran a regular route from tacoma to seattle to port townsend to victoria. she ran into trouble during a storm while on this run on the 8 january 1904, with 92 people aboard.

she began taking on water when the deadlight was smashed by the waves, and the emergency pumps aboard were not working. this meant they had very little chance of saving her from sinking, especially when the water entered the boiler and cut out the power.

at this point, you may think that the best case scenario for survival would be to abandon ship, but that assumption was quickly proven false.

around 3pm, captain george roberts ordered the ships 3 lifeboats lowered. these were mostly filled by women and children, which makes what came next even more tragic. within minutes of the boats being lowered, they capsized in the rough waters.

everyone on board the lifeboats drowned; all 56 people on board.

but the clallam stayed afloat for several more hours. this gave enough time for the steam tug richard holyoke to arrive on scene, and eventually the 36 people remaining on the clallam were rescued.

all children aboard drowned when the lifeboats were lowered because in 1906, lifeboats were just as much death traps as they were lifeboats. [x] [x]

the sinking of the ss valencia is a similar tale. she was a passenger steamer that was briefly filling in the route of the ss city of puebla, which ran the san fran to seattle route, in january of 1906.

on the 20th, she set sail with around 173 people aboard. the captain aboard was unfamiliar with the route and visibility was so low that the crew could not make celestial observations (by using a sextant, for example) to determine where they were. instead, they had to rely on dead reckoning.

while dead reckoning is fairly reliable, is subject to errors like directional drift and cumulative errors are particularly disastrous and can cause tragedies like the honda point disaster. further, its been alleged the captain did not know how dead reckoning works.

this led to the valencia striking a reef on the night of the 22 january. she was less than 100 yards from shore, but the water around her was rough.

6 of the 7 lifeboats were lowered quickly, as had occured on the clallam. 3 of the boats flipped while being lowered, emptying the survivors into the ocean. the 3 that were lowered successfully did not fair better as 2 of them capsized very quickly and the 3rd simply disappeared.

the last lifeboat was the only one that made it to shore. but still, they had to hike for 2½ hours before they could find help.

while various ships responded to valencias distress call, they were not able to get close enough to offer much assistance. the crew of the valencia launched the 2 life rafts aboard in hopes of drifting close enough to another ship to be rescued. this happened for 18 men on one of the rafts as they were rescued by the city of topeka. the second raft drifted ashore and the 4 survivors aboard were rescued by a group of first nations from the island.

soon, the valencia was washed off of the rocks and she sank. those still on board went down with the ship.

of the approximate 173 people on board, 136 of them died during the disaster. similar to the clallam again, every child on board died. [x]

and this brings us into the ss princess sophia which was a canadian passenger liner. she set sail on the 23rd october in 1918 with 343 people on board. in the early hours of the 24th, she ran aground on vanderbilt reef.

though she was able to send out a distress call and a rescue flotilla of boats were able to arrive on scene, the ss princess sophia took all 343 souls aboard with her when she was eventually washed off of the reef and into the ocean.

now, this is when we get into what lifeboats were intended for back then. the evacuation plan would be for the 8 steel lifeboats aboard sophia to be lowered with passengers and crew members aboard, and paddled toward one of the various rescue ships. the passengers would be taken aboard while the crew would paddle back to the sophia where more passengers would come aboard and be ferried to safety.

this is what happened when the rms republic sank in 1909 and what occured with the ss andrea doria in 1956 though in that case, they only had enough lifeboats to rescue everyone once the ss île de france arrived on scene as dorias list meant half her lifeboats could not be lowered.

unfortunately, captain locke never saw a time where he believed this process could occur. there was only a very short break in the storm, but even during those 5 hours, the ocean was rough with high waves.

captain ledbetter captained the uslht cedar, one of the rescue ships, and went on record saying he never saw conditions that would have permitted an evacuation. [x] [x]

these three cases both exemplify the philosophy of lifeboats only a century ago and why we cant simply apply a modern lens to it without missing crucial details.

now lets quickly detour back to the titanic.

as most people know, there were not enough lifeboats aboard for everyone aboard.

this is one of the nitpicks i have about titanic because the portrayal of it paints a warped picture.

so with everything ive rambled on about in this post, we can see why this decision was made. they only needed enough lifeboats to safely ferry passengers from a sinking ship to rescue.

and it was believed that this was a viable evacuation plan in the case that titanic sank. the route she was sailing was a very busy route that often had at least 5-6 ships nearby that could answer a distress call. this is exactly what happened with the rms republic which i mentioned above.

this belief wasnt unique to the titanic or even the white star line. it was held about every ocean liner sailing as these ships were often able to stay afloat for hours acting as its own giant lifeboat due to safety measures and developments like watertight compartments.

and titanic did stay afloat for over 2 hours as it sank. rms republic took over 24 hours irrc while the ocean liner it collided with, the ss florida, was able to sail to port for rescues. ss andrea doria took 10 hours to sink.

during her sea trials in 1927, the ss malolo collided with a freighter (impact equal to the icebrrg to titanic) and was still able to stay afloat and sail despite being flooded with over 7000 tons of sea water.

this belief was clearly not unfounded.

however, the sinking of the titanic practically shattered it. and from then on, almost all ships had enough lifeboat capacity for every passenger on board as it introduced a new function to lifeboats.

and this kinda leads us into the somewhat conclusion to this rambling mess that very much could have been shorter and much simpler.

but anyway,

put simply, by philosophy of lifeboats, i mean how the function of a lifeboat evolved alongside developments in technology and maritime disasters.

it seemingly had never occured to naval architects pre-titanic that what occured that night in 1912 was a hypothetical they needed to consider.

lifeboats are still used today to ferry survivors to safety if that is what the situation necessitates, but they are now also designed to function as their namesake implies.
