As much as Id like to believe that this isn't the case I know it probably is. The stranger things fandom has a long standing problem with racism. Like Ive seen ppl online say some vile racist things about Lucas, Erica and Argyle which is so gross.

Im not trying to start any trouble within the fandom or amoung shippers Im also a steddie enjoyer and you can ship what you want. Im just sharing these posts I came across.

As a black girl in the fandom I have seen first hand some of the racist things ppl online have said about characters of color.

That being said the tumblr stranger things fandom is better than the twitter, instagram and facebook fandom which is where most of the racist shit spawns.

I said it on twitter too but I'm actually beyond disgusted at some of the responses to Selen Tatsuki's termination & what she went through at Nijisanji EN. especially on the Japanese fan side

like even knowing about the bullying and suicide attempt, I've seen SO MANY Japanese comments and accounts prioritizing the copyright/permissions bullshit with her music video and her "breaking rules" by not going through her managers according to company protocol.

A lot of people were even bringing up racist arguments involving the fact that she's Chinese, saying it's obvious she would've "behaved improperly" and hurt the company.

it's actually revolting how willing people are to believe the company's termination notice at face value. "it's 4 pages long, so clearly something bad is going on and I trust the company". I've read those words over and over from many different people, and it's nauseating that they all mean it in earnest. Confused and baffled that EN/international fans are mad about the termination.

I haven't had a cultural gap hit me this hard in the face in a while. I hope Dokibird recovers and only experiences joys going forward, I'm sick and done w this company

Okay but when we have conversations like this we also need to acknowledge that Americans will do the exact same thing for Europe and Asia. They belittle and make fun of many black European/ black Asian culture in 'jokes'. British publishers seem to have a strange habit of classifying nineteenth century French novels as children’s books (a nebulous category I know- children are often more than capable of reading so-called ‘adult’ books but I find it odd nonetheless). 

Jules Verne is the first one that springs to mind, but the one that always confuses me is ‘The Three Musketeers’. Yes it’s got all the swashbuckling ingredients that make up a good boys’ own story, but I’m really not sure that it’s strictly a ‘children’s’ classic.

This brought to you by the fact that I’m trying to sort all my other Dumas books into order when I realised that the ‘Three Musketeers’ wasn’t among them, even though it’s part of a wider ‘series’, the other books of which are in my ‘adult’ books. But because my copy of ‘The Three Musketeers’ was part of a set of ‘children’s classics’, it’s languishing in a box somewhere, alongside The Railway Children and the Secret Garden (great books both, but very different in tone I think). I don’t want to break that set up but I also don’t see why the story of Milady de Winter is more child appropriate than the Count of Monte Cristo.
