I feel like the "Bi but nobody wants them" meme is SO Takumi but. Kinda falls flat where there are at least Two (literally also One canonically) people who want him.

Coukd you do a lee!minho and ler!chan?
YES OMG I have no idea if I’ve done this duo before but if I haven’t then thank you SO much for requesting it I’m literally in love with their relationship
❕Trying something new❕This is a first-person pov fic!! It’s not long and is more of a tester than anything :) after finishing I realized, at least for my preference in reading, that 3rd person imo is better, but if you like this style more lmk! Keep in mind this is very much a *drabble* so there wasn’t much editing ^^

< Humiliated >
[Lee! Lee Know]
[Ler! Bangchan]
———————————————————————————
I finished off with a smirk at the crowd of Stays in the distance. That solo stage was one of the more intense ones during the concerts, but it wasn’t anything impossible for me to handle. Lightsticks flew up across the crowd and the cheering made my ears fall deaf. It was a beautiful sight to see.. to which I boasted to the members about (obviously).
“Minho!! We love you Minho!! You’re so hot Lino!!” I whisper-screamed into Changbin’s ear. He shoved me to one side as he told me Stays were screaming for everyone, not just me. As if he thought I didn’t know my performance was the best one!
“Yeah pssch but did you see the cheering for meeee? They were going insane! Lee Know! Lee Know!” I giggled as I was once again shoved to the other side of the couch as his hand was placed onto my ribcage.
Nope, none of that.
I quickly rolled off the couch and walked away before being embarrassed. If I’m tickled in front of anyone and it’s found out I’m one of the most ticklish members of the group… no. Not me. That’s too vulnerable, it’s too embarrassing for others to know.
I jogged over to my room and ran into Chan on the way.
“Hi” I said (cutely, of course).
He smiled as he shook his head.
“So you can act all cool on stage, tease Stay with your smirk, and practice your dances for hours until perfection… yet you can’t remember to give me back my favorite sweater.”
Shit, I forgot. And I have it on. Double shit.
“Ahhh I will now! Sorry Hyung I forgot again” I mean, I did forget. I was being sincere, but..
“Oohoh no this is like the fourth time you’ve forgotten. Imagine if- wha- is that a stain?! Lee Know!!!”
I didn’t stain it did I?! I looked down at the spot he was staring at and-
A big orangeish-pink splotch of what I’m assuming was my soup from earlier today looked back up at me. It was right on my ribs, how did I not see it before?!
“Come here.” Chan grabbed me by the arm and walked with me down to the kitchen. He looked pissed. Not actually pissed, of course, but as annoyed as can be. I had other things to do though! And I didn’t want him humiliating me in front of everyone else. I told him I’d have it clean by the end of the day, but he wasn’t having it.
“No, I want it now. And clean.”
“Well I can’t really do that now.. sorry hyung just wait a little bit-“ he didn’t let me finish as he began grabbing an array of cleaning supplies like Clorox wipes, a soft scrubbing tool, a rag, and some
“Yes you can do it now,” he said as he walked towards me, “I’ll help you”
I didn’t even have time to protest before he wrapped an arm around my waist and threw me onto the living room couch. He placed all other items on the floor and placed me on my side. I didn’t like where this was going, I didn’t even understand what was happening yet!
“This is the stain, right?” Chan asked as he pointed to the big splotch on the sweater, which sat above my ribs.
“Obviously dumbass” I replied. Snarky, I know, but I’m confused.
“Okay. Then stay still as I clean it.” With that, Chan grabbed a damp cloth, poured a few drops of soap on it, held my hip with one hand, and began to rub the cloth on the sweater with his other hand.
I don’t think I’ve yelled so loud in my life.
“FUhuhuck wait wahait!!” I yelled out. It’s too intense!!
“Nope, I’ve waited long enough”
What an ass!
“Careful hyung you might get kicked” Hyunjin intruded. I just shot him a glare and tried to cover my side.
“Oh no no no, hands up” Chan said.
I just stared at him (probably definitely blushing). Did he seriously expect me to keep my arms raised, here in the living room, in front of everyone, and not lower them?! He’s a madma-
“He’s too weak for that, hold on” I heard Changbin say. Who was he to help Chan and not me?!
“Ya don’t make this into a big deheheal!! Just let me go wash it and I’ll give it back-” I was cut off by Changbin forcefully grabbing my wrists and holding them barely above my chin, as if to taunt me by making me be so close to covering my sides but unable to do so.
“You clearly need some help figuring out how to keep things clean.. be ready to cover his mouth, Bin.” Chan said.
I had nowhere to go and nothing I could do except kick my legs out until Chan sat on them and began to harshly drag the rag up and down my ribs, digging in the entire way.
“AHAHehahahehaAHA WAhahit!! HahaHAHAE WhaHAHAIT!!” I laughed out loudly as he purposefully dug the rag into my side.
“This stain is a tough one..” he said.
“Noho it’s nOHOT!! AHAHAHA” I screamed as he kept going, “STOP! STOHOhohaHAHA”.
My face flushed red as I saw Chan and Bin simply watching me and laugh. I saw the other members, too, smiling over at me. I felt relieved humiliated.
I’ve never been one to beg anyone for anything. Ever. But..
“PLEHEASE! STOHOP PLease plehehease!! PlehahaHAHAHEA AAHHHHAHA” I yelled out as fast as I could until Chan began to slow down the pace.
“I think it’s mostly off now.. it’ll do.”
I was let go and immediately slammed my hands down to cover my sides, one wet from the soapy cloth. Chan giggled down at me as I quickly stood up and went to find another sweater. Idiot.
I changed quickly and threw Chan’s into the washer, not without a glare at him beforehand though.

I was waiting for your review 😅 i def prefer the alternate version. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I hybe would realize not every song needs a rap verse. The was the song ended in the jack harlow ver just felt incomplete compared to the alternate vers.
As for the mv, I'm a little disappointed. I honestly loved the seven mv so much, so I had huge expectations for 3d, but I was let down. I prefer a story rather than them just singing lol but that's probably just me
Both Seven and 3D have plain instrumentals and don't even have a bridge, so I imagine that the rap sections was their way to make the song trendier and less monotonous, as well as "edgier" and more explicit without having Jungkook straight up talk about hitting pussy lmao. Also, apparently "champagne, confetti" does not actually mean champagne and confetti... Does Jungkook even know that? Not unless someone told him? Imagine that conversation.
Yeah, why let Jack Harlow end the song and not Jungkook? I at least expected Jungkook to repeat "in 3D" at the end. The alternate version is so much better. Honestly, I did like the guy's rap but the lyrics are too awful. Had he rapped anything else... Also, the alternate version has Jungkook's run and adlibs which are the most Jungkook-like parts of the song, and when he actually shows off his vocals.
The L&R MV is so much cuter and it includes actual product placement lmao! This sexy bad boy image is so limiting. Jungkook is boxing himself in instead of branching out like he thought. He wants to change his image, but going from sexualized yet babied baby boy, to even more sexualized yet still babied bad boy who apparently can only do sexy concepts, is not really the freedom he desires imo.
I don't care for story in MVs, and I hated the story Seven told - though the idea behind it was far sweeter than the execution, but that's 2/2 of me accusing solo era Jungkook of sexism, yikes - but I thought 3D would be worse than it was. All the truly bad bits belonged to Jack Harlow - god... don't even want to think about it. I should've expected Jungkook dancing in the rain lmao. It was definitely cliché. Seven was more natural in that regard (with the storm scenes).
Seven really is a whole ass masterpiece compared to 3D, I can't believe it. I'm really starting to appreciate Seven now haha. Even the 3D choreo seems like a Seven rip off. And now 3D will block the queen from becoming the fastest song to reach 1B streams on Spotify lmao.
I've come to the conclusion that David Stewart should stay away from BTS. He wrote 3D and Dynamite and the lyrics to both are too try hard. I noticed how Jungkook's accent in Seven is much more subtle and his pronunciation is cleaner and more natural, because the lyrics flow better and are easier for him. Whoever wrote 3D (David Stewart, presumably) didn't consider that words like "girl" are actually hard to pronounce and that the lyrics don't flow very well making it harder for Jungkook to sound natural. It's already so lame when men call grown ass women girls in that whiny tone, but Jungkook's accent makes it sound worse. It's not his fault, I don't mind that his English is flawed but the lyrics should've been adjusted so a non-native speaker could sing them more easily. His accent actually takes away from the song at times, which doesn't happen in Seven, or even in the English trilogy. And, yeah, just, overall, the lyrics are bad and try to be clever but aren't. Dynamite was accused of the same thing.
Thank you for awaiting my review! I just gave you a second one lmao. Thank you for sharing your thoughts too! I look forward to hearing them more if you want to share :)

💖👠🎵🥀🌈💫 hiiii :3
HI GODBLESS 💞💞💞
💖 Favorite character?
Annika my favorite sassy princess, I love her soooo much forever. I have talked a bit about her before but I love how spunky and optimistic and headstrong(for better or worse) she is. I love that Manipulation Tactics is one of her strong points. The fact that she's slightly unhinged is part of her charm.
👠 Favorite outfit/costume?
Anneliese's gown hands down.
🎵 Favorite song?
I Need to Know. The harmonies!! The instrumentals!! The romance!! I adore Melissa Lyons's vocals and I love the Island Princess soundtrack for putting her closer to the forefront vs Patp's being more Erika-centric and Diamond Castle's being mostly duets. I Need to Know is the best of it imo and it is a duet but she does sing the first half solo. Antonio also outsold though don't get me wrong. It's just a beautiful song.
🥀 Movie that makes you most emotional?
This one is a bit tough since I don't tend to get super emotional during movies, I WILL say however that in spite of the 3 seconds of screentime she gets throughout the movie, the Right Here In My Arms reunion duet with Ro and her mom made me feel. Something about, how after she mentions that she had a daughter named Rosella, Ro's initial uncertainty as she clings to the last bits of her past that she can remember, and Marissa catching on immediately, or the implication that she's been singing to the ocean for all those years. And just when they start singing together at the end. Waugh. Island Princess as a whole also just has a massive nostalgia factor for me which feels like cheating to count but it is an emotion so that's something I think(special shoutout to the opening with the orchestral version of the movie's soundtrack playing over shots of the island/ocean, for giving me the Big Nostalgia feelings).
🌈 Any lgbt+ headcanons?
Catania, Romy, Hailey, Merliah, Kylie and Fallon(mt) are lebiabs. Zia(rock n royals), Cora(Pearl Princess), Jonas(pony tale), and Odette are trans. Alexa(Secret Door), Kara(Princess Power) and Christie(Perfect Christmas) are aspec. Uhh I have a few more but this is a pretty general question for how many movies there are so sorry if it seems like I'm just listing a bunch off at random because that 100% is what I'm doing.
💫 Any other headcanons?
In my mind Aidan and Annika don't get married at the end of Magic of Pegasus actually. The prince title is more an honorary thing from Rayla to reward him for his bravery, or something along those lines. The magical sky kingdom goes by different rules than normal monarchies. Speaking of Rayla though, that along with being a cloud queen she also guards over the constellations to some extent(hence her being able to turn the wand into a star). Also a more off the rails one is my Aidan-Rapunzel friendship hc(wherein the palace is hidden in the forbidden forest and while both movies take place centuries apart, due to some form of magic fuckery that messes with the timelines he runs into it anyways. Also it would've happened way before either movie actually starts so Gothel has upped the security since then and he's convinced it was just a really weird hallucination) but I'm still ironing it out.

44 - Jack White - Blunderbuss (2012)
Tumblr media
I'm gonna be real, I had no idea this album even existed until this came up. I liked the White Stripes back in the mid to late 00's, but never really followed much of Jack White's solo career.
He's a damn good guitarist, though, so I'm going in to this one with slightly raised expectations.
(I also had this written out like a week and a half ago and just totally spaced on actually posting it.)
•Missing Pieces-
ooh, that electric piano works really well with Jack's guitar tones in the intro, but the solo in the middle is a killer.
Weird lyrics at first, then it slowly starts to come together by the end with a great set of closing lines:
"Sometimes someone controls everything about you
And then they tell you that they just can't live without you
They ain't lyin', they'll take pieces of you
And they'll stand above you and walk away
That's right, and take a part of you with them."
And whomst among us hasn't felt exactly that way some point?
•Sixteen Saltines-
Heavy fuzzy riffs, which is kinda what I expect from Jack White.
The name of the song is extremely weird considering it's a throwaway line, but I guess just calling it "who's jealous (of who?)" might be a bit on the nose.
•Freedom at 21-
I'm giving the text on this a small bit of a pass here because this came out a WHILE before the Me Too movement, but it feels pretty 'Men's Rights'-y imo.
"She can do whatever to me and she'll be fine because she's the woman and the man is always blamed for things" feels pretty goddamned cringey in 2023.
•Love Interruption-
This is the most "Divorced Guy" song I've ever heard in my entire life.
I will not elaborate further.
•Blunderbuss-
"A romantic bust, a blunder turned explosive blunderbuss" is some pretty fun wordplay, but as a self-diagnosed wife-guy, a few soulful minutes about the nobility of infidelity is not exactly my cup of piss.
•Hypocritical Kiss-
This song just makes me think about a number of people that I'd rather prefer stay locked away in the oubliette of my terrible memory.
•Weep Themselves to Sleep-
Okay, dude, you totally invalidated your entire premise set up by the first two lines in the second two lines.
"Nobody can do [x] like I can, except all these guys."
The instrumentation is really nice, the piano kills it, but the lyrics are... not great. 'Billy Corgan Poetic', by which I mean they're pretty, have an interesting metric foot, and they rhyme nicely, but are otherwise inscrutable.
Weird choice for the central song.
•I'm Shakin'-
Jack White sings the dirty blues.
...At least he's better at it than a good number of other white guys who have attempted it.
The idea of referring to the story of Samson and Delilah as "(she) clipped his wig" is just wild.
•Trash Tongue Talker-
"You broke your tongue talkin trash,
Now you're trying to bring your garbage to me." Damn, that's a good line.
One of the few songs about "get the hell out of my life" that you could throw on at a party and not immediately kill the vibe.
•Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy-
This feels like a band i grew up listening to. Wanna say Little Feat or something like that. It's...alright.
•I Guess I Should Go To Sleep-
Okay, I have a bit of a weakness for 3/4 time.
I also have the occasional fight with insomnia (and lemme tell ya, my insomnia's got HANDS), so yeah, this one hits home.
Also a fairly tidy analogy for death closing out the tab on a hard life. Not entirely sure if that was the intention, but it works.
•On And On And On-
I absolutely love the flow of this one. It's not exactly a fast song, but it keeps moving with the steady power of a river.
I actually had to relisten to it, as I got caught up in the movement and the meter of the lyrics and started spacing out and just vibing.
•Take Me With You When You Go-
The drums are straight out of Manic Depression. I'd know that goddamn drum fill *anywhere*.
I like the fiddle, it almost feels like it shouldn't work, but it really does.
Okay I wasn't expecting the intro to be "the first entire half of the song" but it kicks into 5th gear at the halfway mark and just Goes.
About what I expected going in, to be real. Some great guitar work, some weird but fun lyrics (more often than not).
I'm not sure when he and Meg had their big bad falling out back in the day, but the general sense of "being kinda angry at women" vibe on a few of the songs here definitely bring that whole debacle to mind.
Favorite Track: On And On And On. It's just a whole ass vibe.
Least Favorite Track: tie between Weep Themselves to Sleep and Hypocritical Kiss, but Blunderbuss would be up here too if the wordplay wasn't so good.
There's a lot of very divorce-coded "angry white guy" on this album, and that's just not hitting me.

I know that you like Jarod, but now that Ludveck's in Heroes, I was wondering if you had any thoughts on Jarod's smarmy brown haired twin.
LISTEN it's so nuts to me bc like
Ludveck is a perfect choice for this banner!
But... when Micaiah came out, where was Jarod?!
I huff, and I puff, and I blow IntSys' house down!
Anyway, on to Luddywuddypuddy...
IIII don't like him! I mean, he's a decent villain, nothing grand or unexpected, but I think his existence was solely to prop up Elincia. I don't dislike Elincia and I enjoyed her in part two, but he didn't seem to have any particular standout traits. Jarod for instance, he does strike me as a petty villain simply to make Micaiah look good, but he did have good lines and gave the feeling of a commander who was highly respected by the people who followed him. He's funny imo too, and all of that is at least more to his character than Villain for Arc #1.
Ludveck to me kind of felt more bland. He was easily outwitted and even though he had contingency plans, he doesn't come out on top in any way. For example, Jarod, the villain just prior to him, got his last words in by damaging Nevassa before he would be judged by the apostle. Even if he died, he took some of his enemies down with him like he wanted. Ludveck ended up with nothing but his ass in jail.
All Ludveck got to really do was sacrifice his own people as pawns (admitting they were disposable pawns too), ultimately being outwitted by both Geoffrey and Elincia. Geoffrey knew of an old highway that Ludveck apparently didn't know about, and Elincia defied his predictions at every turn for the entire section of the game.
I guess ultimately to me he has no standout qualities that make him much better than the senators? Like I guess you could say Hetzel was a bit more of a character that stood out to me as not being nefarious like the other senators, but most of them were the same general character. If you wanted the difference between Numida, Valtome, Oliver and Lekain for example, there really is no difference except that one of them joins you because ??? (not sure why the devs did that other than for the memes honestly, like I really have no idea), and that Lekain is basically the boss of all of them. Besides that stuff they're just like, a blob of all the same character.
Ludveck kinda feels like a much more generic villain, which is really rare for Tellius to have as far as non-chapter boss villains. Even the senators at least have presence and come across as threats over a long period. There's just something about Ludveck that didn't click with me, I guess. At least the senators actually caused a lot of trouble within the story, you know? Like they feel kind of like all the same person but they did do damage and have a huge impact on the story. Ludveck wasn't an interesting character like Jarod and he didn't have a lasting impact on the story like the senators.
I can't really compare him to BK and Sephiran since those two are more like... ingrained into the story itself. If you lose them you lose a lasting impact on various things, but if you take out Ludveck, he's so confined to such a small part of the story that nothing really changes, and had no interesting traits. Like, if you took out part two of RD, it wouldn't change... anything, really. You could put any other villain in Luddy's place and it would feel the same to me.
One thing he did do for me was tell me that Haar was capable of soloing half that map on his own so I guess that's cool too LOL.
Tbh my favorite part of part two was Geoffrey and was part of what made me love his character. I guess Ludveck had a bit of a hand in that since I enjoyed seeing Ludveck get outwitted by Geoffrey and it showed a lot more character from Geoffrey than what we got in PoR since he was a late game arrival in PoR. When it comes to the man himself though I feel like any villain could've still made me love Geoffrey more.
Sorry Ludveck, you wanted to be Jarod but you simply could not be Jarod.

Hi,
Is Star Wars worth getting into? I keep seeing all the pretty fanart on your blog, and I love medieval stuff (I have a medieval wall calander, cushion, books,) so happy to see your Medieval au stil going.
But I also hear mixed things about Star Wars, so I'm wondering if it's a case of the fandom makes it better and more enjoyable. I feel the same way about the Loki series. I thought it was OK, but the fandom with makes it more fun and interesting.
Anyway, sorry for this slightly weird question! I've been thinking of asking for a while, but the tipping point was when your blog taught me that Kylo Ren and Ben Solo are the same person. It made me realise that I know too little about star wars.
Hello! *cracks knuckles* ok let’s dive in and hopefully you don’t end up being sorry you asked 😂…
My answer as to whether Star Wars is worth getting into- YES! That’s the short version lol, but now I’ll expound. 😁
Disclaimer- my experience with the Star Wars fandom is relatively short. I only really got active in the fandom space when the final movie in the sequel trilogy came out. So my love for SW in general has nothing to do with the fandom. And in my brutally honest opinion, the fandom can actually add more of a negative spin to the experience rather than being what makes it enjoyable. That can be the case in pretty much any fandom space, but the thing with SW is that it’s so incredibly large since it’s been around for close to 50 yrs. The larger the fandom, statistically there tends to be more craziness and drama lol. I stay in a very limited and curated space for the SW fandom, so for me it’s been pretty nice for the most part. That’s my note on the fandom, but now let’s get to the actual movies! 👏
The movies are absolutely worth watching. And personally, I’d start with the original trilogy. (The trilogy that was released in the 70s and 80s) These movies are honestly classics, the characters are awesome, and they were also way ahead of their time in special effects. The prequel trilogy (1999-2005) is my least favorite, but it’s still really fun and worth watching imo. And then of course the sequel trilogy (2015-2019) is awesome in its own way as well. I’m not going to get into shipping in this post, but obviously you know where I stand on that lol. And on a somewhat related note, please don’t pay attention to the people who whine about how SW was “ruined” by one thing or another. I would encourage anyone to watch it for themselves and try to just enjoy it for what it is. Yeah, there’s stuff I would have done differently, particularly in the prequels and sequels, but that doesn’t change my enjoyment of it as a whole. I think if you go into it with the right attitude, it’s way more fun than frustration.
There’s also so much related canon of course, in the form of books, tv shows, comics, other movies, etc. And tbh a lot of it I haven’t even touched. But what I have seen, I love. There’s so much there to consume, enjoy, and to inspire fandom creating. I really hope you get to at least watch the movies, and if you do I’d love to hear your thoughts! ☺️

hewwo hewwo i finally finished fire emblem engage! i played on normal classic just to get a feel of the game and am planning on replaying on lunatic classic with only the guys bc my favorite way of having fun is stressing out over tiny things lol
but ya it was really fun and nostalgic and felt like a giant love letter to the series. i picked up on a lot of references even for the games that i didn’t play (ex: the bootleg julius and ishtar on sigurd’s map) and it was really hype seeing characters from past games (ephraim hi ilu!) anyway more thoughts below
ok the story was actual garbage lmao 4/10 but i was not expecting much since the primary focus of the game was clearly on the emblem rings. the first half of the story felt really slow and i hated how they gave all the villains sob stories before they died in a half-assed attempt to get you to feel bad for them. it would’ve been alright if there was some build-up but no it was just backstory then dead. i actually felt like the story had similarities to fates and i got suspicious and looked up the writers for fates and engage and lo and behold the main writer for fates is the main writer for engage which explains a lot LMAO
still there were some good parts so it’s not as bad as fates! i really liked the chapter where you fight the mc’s mother for the last time and the corrupted version of her had more of a possessive obsession with the mc rather than the motherly love at the beginning of the game. i thought that was really well done in showing that contrast
maps were boring in the beginning but a lot of the later maps made up for it! i think my personal favorite was the map where you have to fight griss and he uses celica to warp into the shadows waiting to surprise nuke you because that shit made me anxious LOL also probably my fave part of the game was how they featured a map from each game and remixed some of the older music alsksksk i got so giddy seeing lucina’s map
fates still has the best gameplay imo but this game was really fun! they did a good job at making each emblem feel unique while referencing their abilities from their respective games and i loved that a lot
speaking of which, micaiah, sigurd, byleth, and lyn are so ridiculously strong i wanna know what they were thinking when designing them alskskala
an issue that most fire emblem games have is that they don’t really do a good job at balancing characters (like why use any cav in sacred stones when you can just use seth lol) and that’s still true for engage (reclassing kagetsu into a wyvern knight gives him better stats than rosado despite rosado joining much later lmaoaakkaks) but equipping an emblem ring helps to alleviate those problems and make every character usable which i really appreciated
i won’t comment too much on character personalities since i mainly fielded the royals and they already got a lot of screen time so the others ended up neglected. disliked alcryst and hortensia, neutral to diamant (he’s hot but so boring), and i liked ivy, timerra, fogado, celine, and alfred. i especially liked the contrast of alfred’s “i believe in second chances and try to see the best in everyone” to celine’s “sometimes murder is the answer”
speaking of alfred, i ended up marrying him. he wasn’t my first choice even though i really like him, but i accidentally spoiled myself to his solo ending and i was like “NOT ON MY WATCH” and married him lol
anywayyyy i’ll probably start writing for fe engage soon hehehe

Albums cont.
Dr Dre The Chronic (1992):
Immaculate production, excellent sound, boosted Snoop into the mainstream, which puts more tension than usual on finding the themes kinda dumb & gross.
idk this was an interesting one to read people’s response to; at least going off the generator’s peanut gallery, seems like this album was a huge deal when it dropped, but its success ended up killing off the previous generation of stuff (which imo was up to more interesting things) and created the new thing to do, for better or worse
Rod Stewart Every Picture Tells A Story (1971): The bones on this are fine as far as folky rock goes, but the songs go on way too long for how simple + repetitive they are, and not much variety between them.
Kendrick Lamar To Pimp A Butterfly (2015): I like his voice, and I really like the variety of stuff he’s doing in this. Seems like this is the only album from him on the list, which surprises me! I’m gonna look up more of his stuff
My Bloody Valentine m b v (2013): “Shoegaze”, eh? The second half starts doing some interesting stuff, but the first few tracks don’t have enough stuff going on with the synth loops to hold my attention
Minutemen Double Nickels On The Dime (1984): Punk that passes the time just fine
New Order Technique (1989): At first it reminded me a lot of sega genesis music (compliment), but then the vocals started kicking in and ruined that effect
Massive Attack Blue Lines (1991): The only Massive Attack I’d heard before was “Teardrop” (yeah, yeah, because it was the House MD theme, yes), so I was very surprised to put this album on and get british hip hop (or I guess “trip hop”, apparently? not familiar with that one). Way more fun than I expected!
Kraftwerk Die Mensch-Maschine (1978): Not as iconic or joyful as Trans Europa Express but still a lovely time. Always bears repeating that it is ridiculously impressive how far ahead of their time Kraftwerk were
Billy Bragg Talking With the Taxman About Poetry (1986): Started at “fine” then dragged into “really dull” as it went on
Sonic Youth Daydream Nation (1988): I liked this less than the other Sonic Youth that came across the list
John Lennon Imagine (1971):
Tumblr media
Title song’s irredeemably scuffed up by The Celebs, but for the most part I was actually pretty into this. I imagine it was probably pretty difficult for people to have normal reactions to beatle solo work back when it was first coming out
The Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet (1968): Rolling Stones have a pretty good hit rate for me, but it’s rare that I’ve been blown away by what they’ve got. On this one, “Sympathy for the Devil” was good but overstayed its welcome. Out of their stuff that’s come across the generator so far, I liked Let it Bleed more
Little Richard Here’s Little Richard (1957): I don’t think there’s ever been a better album opener than “Tutti Frutti”. Somebody on the generator comments pointed out how the older music on the list suffers because of how radically album construction as its own craft changed during the 60s, which feels true to me--This one was absolutely fantastic start-to-finish, but most of the rest of the pre-60s things I’ve heard on the list ended up wearing me down after a full album’s run
Miles Davis Birth Of The Cool (1957): Solid! Made for very good working & cooking music
Dinosaur Jr. You’re Living All Over Me (1987): There’s some interesting sounds and ideas that pop up at times during this, but the baseline sound didn’t really work for me
Radiohead In Rainbows (2007): I’m generally pretty positive on this one, “Nude” kind of brings the thing to a screeching halt
Public Enemy Fear Of A Black Planet (1990): God damn I really like Chuck D’s voice
Steely Dan Can’t Buy A Thrill (1972): Steely Dan’s come up a few times on the list now, and I have the same issue as always. It’s really close to the kind of thing I like, but it feels empty
Lauryn Hill The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998): Real good R&B which isn’t really a genre I like very much
Ramones Ramones (1976): Clearly very influential! This was really cool, but I think I’m zeroing in on liking 80s-era punk more than 70s and 90s. Violent Femmes and Dead Kennedys were more interesting to me
System Of A Down System Of A Down (1998): lol I have a soft spot for SOAD, they feel like they should be grating, but instead I’m just having a good time

Apparently there's a Iron Man/Cap team up miniseries coming out on Nov 24th and I am so excited. Quote from the writer:
“The natural instinct for a writer would be to immediately put them at loggerheads. Nothing generates drama better than tension, after all,” Landy said. “But Tony just wants to protect people, and Steve is one of the kindest characters in comics, so I pretty much embraced the opportunity to step away from the tension and explore that friendship."
There is, and I am so excited! I already subscribed to it.
It sounds like the writer really likes Steve & Tony's friendship so I am very hopeful that we will get some nice canon out of it, and even I don't end up liking the writing it will be an entire miniseries where Steve and Tony appear on the page together. (The bar, it is set so low. And yet.)
I think that we've actually gotten a lot of fairly nice Steve and/or Tony recently in canon, albeit not in the ordinary places you might look, so if you only follow Avengers, Cap, and Iron Man ongoings, you might have missed the following excellent things that have happened/are still happening:
Infinite Destinies: This is a series of eight linked annuals that came out earlier this year; the main stories in each annual can be enjoyed standalone, and three of them are Iron Man, Captain America, and Avengers. The Cap annual is by Gerry Duggan and is decently fun, IMO; Iron Man and Avengers are by Jed MacKay and are superb. The Iron Man one is one of the best Iron Man solo books I've read in a long time -- honestly, the characterization is great -- and the Avengers one is a must-read if you like Steve & Tony because it is pretty much them hanging out and being friends and fighting the villain together.
Dark Ages: This is an out-of-continuity miniseries event thing by Tom Taylor (of Superior Iron Man fame) where electricity no longer works, and while it doesn't focus exclusively on Steve and Tony we do see them and they seem to have an intriguing dynamic and some cool character design. Steve's rocking a Post-Apocalyptic Beard.
Darkhold: This is a horror miniseries whose most recent issue is about Iron Man and is also by Ryan North, who I think wrote Tony very well in Squirrel Girl. I absolutely love how he writes Tony here but it is very, very body horror and, alas, I had to stop reading it because it was too much for me. But the characterization was great and it was a lovely take on early-canon Tony.
Captain America Infinity Comic: I know I've talked about this multiple times before, but if you like Captain America you need to find and read Jay Edidin's Cap comic here without delay. It is the best Cap comic I have read in years, and Jay just 100% nails Steve, as far as I am concerned. It's so good. It's so so good.
Death of Doctor Strange: If you don't read Strange comics, you probably didn't pick this series up. But it's by Jed MacKay who gave us the excellent Avengers annual and the most recent issue this week (#2) is fun and has a nice cameo by the Avengers, including Steve and Tony, and I liked it a whole lot. The way he writes the Avengers is basically how I would like the Avengers to currently feel. The next issue in the series is an Avengers tie-in (Death of Doctor Strange: Avengers) and it's by someone else, I think, but the preview just came out and all of the preview is Quality Tony Stark Content. (There are a few pages of him talking with Strange in a flashback about his hatred of magic, and then a page of very very angsty Tony angst.)
So, yeah, I am excited for the team-up miniseries but also I think there's been and hopefully will continue to be some very nice Steve and Tony content even other than that.

y’know, i think i might’ve realized why so many people gravitate towards batfam instead of flashfam
to the extent of my knowledge, most of the flashfam are related to each other either biologically or by marrying (to clarify i’m talking specifically abt pre52 flashfam rn since i haven’t actually read any of the new52 yet). you have:
barry allen, the flash
iris west, barry’s wide
wally west, iris’ nephew
linda park, wally’s wife
don and dawn allen, iris and barry’s children in the 30th century
jenni ognats, the daughter of don and jeven ognats
bart, the son of dawn and meloni thawne, making him jenni’s cousin and wally’s first cousin once removed (i think so anyways i’m not sure)
owen mercer, bart’s half-brother
thaddeus thawne II, bart’s clone and technically his twin/brother
jai and irey west, linda and wally’s kids
pretty much the only ones who aren’t biologically related in any sense are jay and joan garrick, who imo act like barry’s parents, and also temporarily had bart in their care for a while
of course, this isn’t including people like jesse chambers, max crandall, johnny chambers, etc. bc i’m mostly going through the family tree, however they are very close friends/allies who are generally considered as part of the flashfam
ANYWAYS, like i said, that list of people? they’re all biologically connected in some way, or in linda + joan + iris’s cases, they married in.
now let’s look at the batfam, which is made up almost entirely of non-biologically related people (once again, not taking into account close friends such as babs and steph):
alfred pennyworth, the wayne’s butler and the man who raised bruce (along with leslie thompkins)
bruce wayne, batman
dick grayson, bruce’s first son
jason todd, bruce’s second son
tim drake, the third son
cassandra cain, bruce’s one and only daughter
damian wayne, son of bruce and talia al ghul, and the only member with any sort of blood relation to bruce
talia al ghul, who isn’t generally considered a part of the batfam (thanks to morrison ruining her entire character smh) but was once married to bruce
this list also doesn’t take into account close friends/allies like stephanie brown, barbara gordon, selina kyle, etc. bc none of them are official members of the family, though they are counted as family by most people (including me). again, these are the official members of the batfam
it’s pretty common knowledge that the batfam is the most popular family in the entire dc franchise. the fanworks alone go to show that, and dc isn’t much better when it comes to that. it can be hard to figure out why, since the batfam can be so messed up sometimes, especially compared to the flashfam, which imo is one of the most openly loving and caring families in dc. despite that, the flashfam fandom is like a single speck of dust compared to the batfam fandom, which can honestly be really frustrating bc they deserve more recognition, but i digress
anyways, the main difference between these two families?
blood relations.
okay, let me explain. here’s the thing—the batfam fandom is mostly made up of people that are queer, neurodivergent, mentally ill, or maybe just don’t have that great of a home life. this post explains it much better than i ever could, but the general gist is that these people love the concept of found family since they usually don’t have an amazing relationship or are rejected by their blood family, and the batfam is built on found family. like i said, the only people related by blood are bruce and damian—everyone else is a) adopted or b) close enough to the family that they’re considered part of it (think steph, babs, alfred, etc.)
now, i’m pretty sure that the batfam is the only family that’s pretty much completely found family (with the exception of lanternfam, but hal, kyle, jess, simon etc. don’t fall into archetypal roles like the dad, the brother, the uncle, etc. so i feel like that plays a big role in why the lanternfam isn’t nearly as popular + the fact that most people just don’t really seem to care about them). most of dc’s other families are blood related—and this includes flashfam, which i think it actually the family that has the most blood-related members in it.
here’s the thing—some of the members of the flashfam absolutely do play at least a little bit into found family. take bart, for example—he travelled back in time from the future. iris couldn’t take care of him bc she couldn’t spoil future events for the others (i think so anyways i’m not too sure), wally was nowhere prepared to mentor a kid who was so much like him, so max was the one to take him in, and they ended up having an amazing father-son relationship, and they weren’t related to each other, either.
still, despite definitely having more healthy relationships than the batfam, most of the flashfam is blood-related, which is probably a huge part of why people gravitate towards the batfam—the idea of having a found family that, while dysfunctional and messy, is a family that loves each other, is really appealing towards people who are queer/neurodivergent/etc. not only that, a lot of the batfam members are unintentionally neurodivergent coded, which is another reason for the flashfam not being nearly as popular (though i firmly believe that most if not all speedsters are adhd i mean just look at bart’s 90s solo comic but that’s not the point)
of course there’s also the fact that dc just loves promoting the batfam for whatever reason...most of the dc animated movies have batman + nightwing in them, and god whenever i scroll down to movies that have ‘batman’ in their title on my tv list it’s so goddamn long...batman himself is one of the most well-known fictional characters ever, and while the flash is popular, it pales in comparison to batman. most forms of dc media have the batfam or at least bruce, alfred + dick or damian in them (batman and harley quinn, batman vs robin, the dcamu universe, etc.) while the flash...
i’m pretty sure barry’s the only one to really consistently appear in any sort of dc media that isn’t comics, but the one movie that could be considered a flashfam movie is justice league: the flashpoint paradox and even then i feel like it’s a stretch. other than that, all i can think of if wally making some cameos in the 2003 teen titans cartoon + his appearances in ttg. even in video games, there’s no bart, no jay, no max—only barry as the flash and wally as kid flash, even if the timeline doesn’t make sense
so yeah. that’s my reasoning for why the batfam is so much more popular than the flashfam

The Boyz as things and feelings (just cause)
this is a small thing @haechanhues needed help with so i decided to make it an actual post uwu [this is gonna be pretty long cause i might write little scenarios]
[THE BOYZ AS THINGS AND FEELINGS]
SANGYEON - MIRRORS AND PILLOWS
Tumblr media
mirrors make a place look bigger than it really is - i feel like sangyeon has that ability to make you feel like you’re more important on your worst days
the things he’ll do just to make sure you’re alright, even when he knows you’re not
he also has the ability to reflect what you need: sad? he’ll come and hug you and let you cry or talk about your shitty day. happy? he’ll joke about the way you snort while laughing then he’d probably do something dumb to keep the energy up there
mirrors also feel very private and at-home, and that exactly how i feel he curates an environment
pillows are self-explanatory ig, smth to cry into, smth to fall asleep with while hugging, has the best homely scents ever, very comfortable
i imagine going home after a long day and finding your partner also tired, but he’s cooking or like in the couch watching tv and he just invites you into his arms uwu
“tell me about everything! whatever that makes you happy or sad and i’ll try my best to be who you need at that point of time!”
JACOB - FLOWERS AND MUSIC
Tumblr media
ok like jacob with a guitar is just a stellar sight to behold, he looks like he was born to hold one, and his vocals are super underrated imo, most of tbz’s discography doesnt really suit his voice - i really wish he had a chance to have more lines in more ballads or maybe even a solo thing
he would drag you out to go on walks after he knows you’ve buried yourself in your work the whole day, and he’d be the kind to stop at a pretty flower and contemplate plucking it but he wouldn’t cause he’s a fairy and wouldn’t hurt a fly, much less a pretty flower
would probably play a piece in the background while you’re stressed w work and hum a tune so the singing wouldn’t distract you
would stop when he notices you stopped working and your sad ass is probably crying lmao
he’s a very soft and gentle man imo
he’s the innocent daisy amidst other bright colored, flamboyant flowers but he still stands out
“i’ll grow you a rose bush in the yard so i don’t have to be sad about plucking flowers next time.”
YOUNGHOON - WINTER COATS AND COFFEE AND PASTRIES
Tumblr media
he definitely radiates tsundere vibes on first sight, but when you get to know him, he’s obviously the opposite: a crybaby
but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t keep up his model-like appearances when he’s outside - in fact, he’d be the one to influence you into caring more about how you look (of course not materialistically, but more into actually caring about making yourself feel good with your fashion and appearance)
i chose winter coats as a symbol of coverage - he doesn’t show much of himself unless he’s close to you (like when you wear winter coats to keep warm, he’s a burrito because he doesn’t bother too much about sharing his feelings), but when he does, it feels like he has the ability to keep you warm and comfortable, even on the coldest days, even if his inner savage comes out
it’ll be like he scooped you into his coat and has you warm in one of this inner breast pockets
i see him as the kind to get regular coffee and like, a tart or something, at a cafe. it adds on to the warmth, when he remembers what you like. the details. maybe you like your coffee with cinnamon or less sugar or something, but then he tops it up with a muffin and he knows you like it heated up so he specifically asks for them to do so
ok but he’s defo the kind of guy that catches people’s attention at public spaces so every now and then when he’s laughing or smiling, some girl would gawk at him and he would be embarrassed about it, but lucky for you, you’re already wearing matching coats so they know the man’s taken uwu
“if only they knew how long it took to convince you to wear that coat.”
HYUNJAE - CONCERTS AND CONVENIENCE STORE DATES
Tumblr media
classy but calm. dream-like but realistic.
i say concerts as in the instrumental, ballad kinds. he loves it and he knows you probably need the sleep where you have that kind of background white noise/music that provides you the best quality of sleep there is. but when you’re not dosing off, he’s admiring how much time you’re willing to invest into being at something he loves
of course, in turn, he doesn’t complain much when you’re hungry and you meet him down the street at the nearest convenience store for some instant noodles and potato chips with a coke and he lets you ramble about your day
he would probably buy you an ice cream just so you’d feel better, then regret it when you get a stomachache later cause it was like 2am in the morning
you probably have like 5 of his hoodies at home that you refuse to wash cause his scent is tainted all over it and the only time he gets to take them home is when he stays over or visits and he sneaks one into his bag when you’re in the kitchen making tea or a bowl of noodles
then you’ll get it back without even knowing it was gone
the kind that would probably surprise you after a day of work with a casual date idea to the movies, and i mean showing up at your place, impromptu, after he knows you’re home with two tickets
“act like my girlfriend for once and go on a date with me, would you? your work isn’t going to be there with you when you die at 90.”
JUYEON - STARGAZING AND VR GAMES
Tumblr media
as dumb and sometimes bimbotic as he seems he is, he’s gotten most of the visible constellations memorised and he would not hesitate from telling you all about his childhood with his family when they would travel and try to spot every single constellation they can remember
which brings me to the point where he remembers what you like, but... backhandedly. he doesn’t remember what you like but he remembers what you hate instead, so you don’t ever have to worry about getting that licorice flavoured jelly bean
he would offer a midnight walk to help you relieve your stress, cause he knows you just like seeing the nightsky amidst the peace and quiet while he rambles on for his own satisfaction. not everything has to be so emotionally attached and shared. you can share blissful moments without being the reason for each other’s and that’s totally fine.
juyeon is kind of a scaredy cat in the sense that he isn’t really into horror movies or games but he’s always had that dream to become a pilot and so for his birthday, you brought him to a vr game arcade where he played some plane simulator and ever since, you’ve been taking turns to surprise each other with a new vr arcade spot or adding on to the vr game console set you have at home
“maybe i should digitalise you so i can see you in the vr game”
KEVIN - KARAOKE SESSIONS AND NEON LIGHTS
Tumblr media
the best-friend kind of partner you would come across once in a lifetime
a billion film shots of you after he drags you to the karaoke and he beats you at super intense songs like the bohemian rhapsody just cause he can hit those high notes and solely because he was screaming on the floor when he did it
almost left his film camera behind
absolutely LOVES those walks along streets where there are a million neon lights
would come across that one sus neon light signs that indicate a sex toy store and he would give you that sly smile and probably joke for you to go in
kevin has a moon neon light in his room and you have a star or something (whatever you want)
corrects your grammar and pronunciation, only for you two to bicker about it even more when you use google translation and there are different pronunciations depending on where/what accent you’re using
he really is your light in the dark, even if he’s known to be introverted. once he’s comfortable enough with you, he makes you feel like the most important person in the world
has one of those portable speaker microphones at home and he drones on and on and on with some billie eilish song until you hurl a pillow at him
“so you’re the tough girl, like it really rough girl, justcan’tgetenoughofkevingirl, chest always so puffed girl”
CHANHEE - DUETS AND STRAWBERRY PICKING
Tumblr media
(i could not find a more candid, softer aesthetic pic for chanhee rip)
his entire wardrobe fits you - the only problem is that he’ll never let you wear it in fear that you’d stain or tear something
shared playlists because that’s how similar your taste in music is, and so sometimes when you have your earpiece in and you’re humming the melody of that song, chanhee picks it up immediately despite not hearing that song, and ends up harmonising with you
got kicked out of the library once or twice because it was exam period and the two of you won’t shut up
ironically doesn’t sing that much if you’re not around
chanhee is a true blue introvert - which is a miracle that you’ve managed to tear through that barrier of his and find out that he giggles at every stupid thing you do: he’s having a bad day? trip over the pavement. he’ll laugh. it works
dragging him out to go strawberry picking was so difficult - but of course chanhee isn’t safe from how beautiful and enticing the fresh fruits were.
didn’t touch anything strawberry flavoured OR any strawberries for the next month or so
his straightforwardness comes with the breakdown of his barrier - but that’s what brings you comfort. he will never lie, he will only be sarcastic and even then, you’d know it’s true
i used duets as a symbol of harmony and being in-sync, though never really exactly the same, and that’s how it is with chanhee. your thoughts are very similar even though he’s much more introverted than you, but that’s what binds you
“i’m gonna tell the librarian i don’t know you if we get kicked out again.”
CHANGMIN - CITY TOURS AND MATCHING OUTFITS
Tumblr media
city tours - the kind that you already know inside out and yet you STILL travel the area as if you were a tourist
that’s exactly how it is with changmin: you know him inside out, after being friends for so long, but it never gets old
you’re used to him biting your hand out of nowhere and yet it startles you all the time. that stupid chucky doll in his living room? old, but it never fails to scare you
he doesn’t ever talk about it that much, but he loves it when you co-ordinate outfits
no, it doesn’t mean you wear couple tees, but it’s aesthetically pleasing to changmin that if he wears cool tones, you would too
he’d be reserved about his thoughts and feelings sometimes but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t think or feel them
there’s a strange sense of familiarity with changmin, because you kind of know what to expect but then you’re never disappointed, you know?
“i got you this white pigeon cause it looks like the one i already got... you can give it back to me if you don’t like it though-” /he takes it before you can accept it/
HAKNYEON - STAND UP COMEDY SHOWS AND RUNNING ALONG THE BEACH
Tumblr media
there’s something about ju that makes it very casual and easy-going
he hates horror genred themes so fuck that, he would queue online just for the latest ali wong comedy show, even if it’s an online show, and he would laugh until he cried
sometimes he’s a drama queen but that makes it alot easier for you to know what he’s thinking or feeling - it makes communication alot easier
that means a lack of arguments
he’s also very empathetic but straightforward, exactly like how comedy shows are - because they are relatable, they are funny because they bring out the irony and sarcasm and all the dumb things in life that people are sometimes afraid of talking about and hak just says whatever he wants to say, even if he knows it might be hurtful or upsetting
he prioritises truth and honesty over anything else
it makes you a better person, honestly
beach walks - very calming, very liberating. he lets you yell and scream and kick sand back into the water because you can, and he does it with you
tries to teach you how to skip rocks but you suck and you can’t so he just pulls you away from the pile of rocks you amassed
“flick your wrist like that, not like you’re meowing!”
SUNWOO - SOCCER FRIENDLIES AND STUDIO SESSIONS
Tumblr media
he will NOT go easy on you in a friendly match: you might be one of the fastest players of the female team but he’s ruthless in his ball-stealing, so even if you were fast enough to keep the ball out of his reach, he’d still be able to snatch it right out between your feet
very, very competitive and does not like to lose
you would always play the ‘ladies first’ card but then he’d throw the ‘feminism’ card back at you
sometimes you act more like siblings than anything else
the only time when he isn’t fuming with competition is if you’re injured because he accidentally tackled you - he’ll gracefully give himself a yellow card before absolutely trashing you in the next match
has one foot into the production game recently - likes to play with the beat board and mixing tunes, and since you’ve had your hand in doing music remixes for a deejay job before, you’re there to identify which songs have the same bass line or beat counts for easier mixing
would make you a playlist of remixes but wouldn’t admit that he spent a whole day in the studio without you just so it would be a surprise
a soft boy stuck in the wraps of an egoistic man
“a day? please. i illegally downloaded half these remixes off the internet cause i’d think you’re too internet-dumb to find them.”
ERIC - BAKING AND SKATEBOARDING
Tumblr media
full of impromptu, casual ideas to hang out
baking is a fucking mess - why did he suggest it when he doesn’t even have the right ingredients?
wanted to replace eggs with water - like ok thats supposedly healthier, but why????????????
he likes cleaning so that was the only fucking bonus in baking - had to call his mom for help halfway through because the cookies looked more like goop than playdough
gave up in the end and he repaid his debt by helping clean your kitchen
tried to teach you how to skateboard, but he ended up falling off his own in the process and now he’s got a grazed knee
the kind of person you’d have so much chaotic fun with, he’s that friend your mom told you to NOT hang out with that much if not you’d get run down by a car
has the most fucking random pieces of clothing in his wardrobe, like where did he even get that pink coat from?
“no you have to do this and like lift up your leg and then kinda rest your weight on it before flicking your ankle and like- whOA- OH OW OHNO OHOHOH OW”

what makes you think the writers want deancas? not trying to be an asshole, i'm just genuinely curious as to why you think that. i know berens' episodes are pretty heavy with subtext so i can see why you'd say that he wants it, but i'm not so sure about the rest of the writers/dabb. it seems like meghan isn't a huge fan either, given her "they twisted it so fast" tweet :/ of course she's a very new writer (think she's only writing one ep this season?) but still
OKAY this is a great question, welcome to my dissertation.
I’m going to address the end of your question first. Meghan is actually DeanCas positive, she has been for quite a long time. She actually, a few years back, posted a picture of her reading a literal book about Destiel and captioned it “writing reading” or something like that.
This whole thing just comes out of a boiling over of tensions because of how nasty fandom twitter can be. Like I said here, I think this has just gotten blown out of proportion, they shouldn’t have posted all this randomly disparaging stuff, but also like...can you blame them? The fandom is a lot, we always have been, and they’re probably also under a gag order not to talk about the finale, and are annoyed that people keep asking.
So nah, Meg is not anti Destiel.
To the first part!! So let’s take a look at the show runners since Cas has been around.
Seasons 4 and 5: Kripke
Seasons 6 and 7: Gamble
Seasons 8-11ish: Carver
Seasons 11ish-15: Dabb
So starting with Kripke. Okay, yes, I will be the first to admit that we have some pretty incredible Destiel moments in these seasons, but it’s less directly written into the plot and much more from Misha and Jensen’s uhhhh ~chemistry~. The only times it was directly written into the script was when the episode was handled by someone like Edlund (“On The Head Of A Pin,” “The End,” “My Bloody Valentine”). And you have to remember, if in season 5, there are moments here and there where you’re like huh that’s suspiciously romantic dialogue, remember that Cas took Anna’s place. Anna was supposed to be endgame for Dean, but due to a myriad of issues and Misha’s general greatness, Anna was replaced with Cas.
Onto 6 and 7. Hmmm. Gamble. 6 and 7 are my two least favorite seasons and that’s no secret, and that’s not only due to the plain old weird shit in the overall storyline, but also that homegirl killed off Cas in s7 and then Bobby like four episodes later. (Also it ALWAYS rubbed me the wrong way they couldn’t have Baby in that season lol). We still had some great DeanCas moments, but again, it wasn’t really written into the overall arc (until they had to change the end of season 7 because of tanking ratings and bring Misha back lol, anyone remember the fact that Dean kept Cas’ jacket and would randomly dream of him? Yeah.). But we still had those moments, those distinctly romantic moments, probably the best example in these two seasons is from Edlund again, specifically “The Man Who Would be King,” I wrote a little about that here.
We move onto Carver, who gave us, at this point, the most overt DeanCas season with season 8 (season gr8 is a better name imo), and this is the first time Dean and Cas’ relationship is directly written as an arc of the season.  I mean, you have everything in Purgatory, Dean “seeing” Cas everywhere, the fact that he felt so guilty that Cas stayed in Purgatory that he manipulated his own memories to think that he was the one that failed Cas, because he couldn’t comprehend that Cas would want to leave him, and let’s not forget Dean snapping Cas out of Naomi’s hold on him in “Goodbye Stranger.”  It was a very obvious shift, not enough to alert the general audience, but more than enough for most of us in fandom.
It’s also important to note that this is when Andrew stopped co writing with Loflin and started writing his own episodes (”Hunter Heroici” anyone?)  I like Loflin fine, but Dabb was able to stretch his legs a little bit more once he stopped co-writing, and we also began to see some DeanCas themes in his solo episodes.
In any case, them and their issues being a big part of the seasons continued with Carver, and Berens entered the scene, his first episode (”Heaven Can’t Wait”) is one of my favorites, with human Cas and the fanfiction gap and Dean and Cas just generally being awkward and funny and sweet.  This is Bobo’s FIRST episode, remember that.  He comes right out of the gate with it.
Also in Season 9, this is when Dean takes the Mark of Cain, and the Cas/Colette mirror is born, so obviously, Dean and Cas are the fabric of the season once again.  This is also the season where Metatron says Cas is “in love with humanity,” and then immediately refers to Dean as Humanity so uhhhh yeah.
Onto season 10, Dabb and Berens continue with their greatness (I could write pages on the DeanCas date in “The Things We Left Behind” alone).  And then we have one of the best scenes in the entire show in “The Prisoner” where the Cas/Colette mirror continues and Dean, driven by grief and pain and rage and the Mark, still doesn’t kill Cas.  He still can’t kill Cas.
Season 11 is important because it takes choice away from both Cas and Dean, and shows us, as the audience, how much losing each other takes out of them. We saw in season 10 how much losing Dean takes from Cas, but what about Cas losing Dean?  Dean loses his choice with his connection to Amara this season, and loses even more when Lucifer reveals he’s been possessing Cas, and plays on Dean’s connection to Cas like a mockery.  It’s also worth noting that, similarly to season 8, Dean breaks out of the connection with Amara when he’s worried about Cas, and that’s something that even SHE is surprised by.
But then season 12, the beginning to the Renaissance.  This is when we get the writer’s that become important for what Dean and Cas are today, and, truly, why I believe they want canon Destiel as much as we do.
This is the first season with Dabb’s writers: Davy Perez, Meredith Glynn, Steve Yockey, and of course Bobo all come in with their incredible talents and gave us episode after episode of good content.  “Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets” is probably my favorite, probably the best example of what I’m saying.  An episode where Dean is called out by an enemy directly, told to “roll the dice” on Cas’ life.  And Dean won’t, it’s not even really a hesitation.  And this comes from a character that has known Dean for ten seconds.  I also wrote more in depth about this episode here.  There are also some.....distinctly domestic details we get this season, specifically in “The Future” (written by Berens and Glynn) with the mixtape.  The most tropey of tropes mixtape.  Yeah, I’ll just leave that one here.
And then season 12 ends with Cas’ death, but also with the parallel between Sam and Dean with Jess and Cas.  Sam literally has to drag Dean away from Cas, just like Dean had to drag Sam out of his burning apartment in the pilot.  The episode drives it home in every way that it can: Dean is the one left kneeling by Cas’ body, while Sam goes to find out what is upstairs.  Dean is the one who stares at the sky, finally broken.  This isn’t a random thing, this is Dean’s whole arc, it’s the entirety of the beginning of 13.  Dean’s pain, his anguish, his anger.
Season 13 starts with them burning Cas, with Dean, who has begged God to bring him back, who has split his knuckles punching a door, standing, staring at Cas’ pyre with brokenness on his face.
I mean.....
Anyway, season 13 is where it gets interesting (well, I think all of this is interesting but I’m a writer nerd so).  So Cas comes back from the Empty in “Advanced Thanatology” written by Steve Yockey, and then a wombo combo of “Tombstone” by Davy Perez next (”Brokebacknatural” as the PR said at the time).  Listen.  This is the part that SPN crossed a line that they couldn’t come back from.  With Cas being Dean’s “big win,” the fact that Dean and Cas watch movies together, “I told you, he’s an angry sleeper.  Like a bear.” Talked about it here.
This is where, in my opinion, the network stepped in, but the damage was already done.  They had already established that Cas was Dean’s big win, that Dean’s poor coping was not due to Mary’s disappearance, but solely due to Cas, and that Dean and Cas have more married energy than anyone else.  The network had nixed blatant canon at this point, and they writing room had been pushing the boundaries of what the network would allow.
After these episodes, we see a marked drop off of DeanCas heavy scenes.  They’re still there, still a part of the fabric of the season, but not as...obvious as it had been in early season 13.
And this continued through season 14, we’re back to scraps of Destiel scenes here and there, but to me it always felt like there was something bubbling under the surface, something distinctly unsaid in the themes of the season, even after the walk back of obvious “Dean and Cas are in love” scenes.
And then we get to season 15, which, y’all know I talk about all the time.  What’s important here is that Bobo and Glynn are both executive producers, calling more of the shots than ever before.  Additionally, it’s important to note that, though they only co write occasionally, Glynn and Berens refer to each other as “work husband” and “work wife.”  Each episode has just turned up the volume, and, not for the first time, but certainly the most obvious, Dean and Cas ARE the season.  Sure, they’re trying to beat God, they’re trying to finally find peace, defeat the final big bad, but really?  This season has been about Dean, and Dean’s relationship to Cas.
And not only do we have obvious and clear Destiel in nearly every episode, but we have episodes like “Last Call” which canonize bi!Dean (wrote about that here).
And, maybe most importantly so far, we have “The Rupture,” the breakup, and “The Trap,” Dean’s confession (both written by Berens).  And here’s the thing.  These episodes feel connected, but also feel like they’re missing something.  Beren’s last episode is 15x18, “The Truth.”  We’ve all spec’ed about what could happen in this episode, and I think *I* know what it’s leading to.  But for it to be leading to that, it means that the network has to have approved what we’ve all been waiting for years for.
Who got this change to happen?  Who got the network to change their minds?  It wasn’t us.  It was them.  I am fully convinced that Dabb and Berens quite literally put their careers on the line for Dean and Cas.  They believe in them, they’ve shown that from the beginning, but the only thing standing in the way was the network, never allowing them to take the final step.
So, to answer your question: I think the writers want canon DeanCas because they’ve already shown us that they do.  Take a look at their episodes, at Dabb’s, at Beren’s, at Glynn’s, at Perez’s, at Yockey’s.  They’ve been telling us what’s going on with Dean and Cas for years.
Sure, I’m not in their heads, I guess I don’t know for *sure* that this has been their thought process, but if we put it all together, from the marked shift when Dabb fully took over in s12, to the change right after “Tombstone,” to the new shift, the blatantly romantic shift in season 15, what else is there?
I’ve said for a long time that we, the SPN fandom, are beyond lucky to have the writer’s that we do.  They’re all going to go on to have prolific careers and we were lucky to get them at the end of our little show.  I give them a lot of credit for what we have in the show today.
Just remember, they’ve been telling us in all of s15 who Chuck is.  He says he’s the writer, right?  But a writer who doesn’t have control of his characters?  A writer who wants to do the same ending over and over because it “works”?  That doesn’t sound like a writer, it sounds like a network exec.
They’ve been showing us what they want for years, and the way s15 is going?  I think they may have convinced the network to let us have it.

It’s Cold in that Fridge: The Case of Nakari Kelen
Since The Case of Mara Jade has been doing the rounds again, I’ve finally gone back to this post that has been sitting in my drafts for literally years. So let’s honour this absolute badass who deserved better:
Tumblr media
Once upon a time, the Star Wars universe was but six films (and a tv series) in the story of the Skywalker family. But beyond George Lucas’ story was an absolute boatload of books, comics, games, and other materials that made up the Expanded Universe. When Disney purchased Lucasfilm and the rights to the Star Wars saga, everything in this universe was decanonised and deemed “Legends” - some aspects of this universe were retained or re-purposed, others sit in Disney’s figurative vault and will likely never see the light of day (and seeing how the ST turned out, maybe that’s for the best).
But this transition between Legends canon and Disney canon was not so simple, because the nature of publishing meant that there were novels approved during the time of Legends canon that would be released in the time of Disney canon. In particular, there had been the planned trilogy “Empire and Rebellion”, set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, with each novel from the perspective of one of The Big Three.
Razor’s Edge (Leia) and Honor Among Thieves (Han) were released prior to the Great Canon Split of 2014.  But while the Luke-centric novel had been planned, it was not due to be released until well after the Split. So Heir to the Jedi (so called as an homage to the Legends progenitor Heir to the Empire) became one of the first books of the Disney canon.
What does this background have to do with Nakari Kelen?  Perhaps nothing, but I do wonder how the writing process was affected by the shift from Legends to Disney - was the novel a relic of the old EU with any reference the LFL storygroup didn’t like excised during editing, or was it a trendsetter for the new EU, a Sign of Things to Come?
The most salient point being, of course, that Nakari Kelen - like so many love interests before her - was not allowed to go along her merry way at the conclusion of the novel, but was shoved into the fridge.
If there was one constant of the Legends EU, it was that Luke Skywalker’s love interests couldn’t catch a break. Mara Jade naturally lasted the longest relationship-wise, with almost twenty years of marriage to Luke before some bright spark decided she had to go (as per the aforementioned case study). But before Mara there was Jem, Shira Brie, and Gaeriel Captison (who came close to escaping the curse), and in the Legacy of the Force series they brought back sole survivors Akanah and Callista, only to kill them off for good too (and rather brutally, if I may add).
So perhaps when Kevin Hearne began writing HttJ within the confines of the Legends continuity, he was merely sticking to the status quo, or perhaps once subsumed by Disney they needed to make sure Luke's slate was clean (so to speak).  And I can’t put all the blame on Hearne since I don’t know whether it was his idea, or LFL mandated - but regardless it was a poor decision.
The root cause of fridging, imo, is limited imagination.  How best to cause your male protagonist pain if not kill off someone they love, or at least have strong feelings for? The answer is of course, easily. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
The Luke Skywalker of HttJ is fresh from his victory in ANH, a lieutenant in the Rebellion: young, not dumb, and full of...
Nakari Kalen is an absolute Queen a civilian volunteer and crack-shot sniper who loans her ship Desert Jewel to the Alliance. Luke is immediately attracted to her, they bond over a mutual love of fast ships and leaving behind desert home planets, and engage in the inexpert flirting of two nineteen year olds while also risking their lives several times over.
I want to make it clear: I actually really like this book. It's a breezy read, almost serialised as The Early Adventures of Luke Skywalker, and is ofttimes genuinely funny. And credit where it’s due to Hearne, many of of the supporting roles in the novel are female. Other than Nakari, there's Soonta, the Rodian who gives Luke her uncle’s lightsaber, Sakhet the Kupohan spy, and the Givin cryptographer/math genius Drusil Bephorin. In a genre where male characters are often the default for these kind of roles, it was nice to see, but makes the regressive fridging of Nakari even more egregious.
Luke and Nakari make a good team fighting brain-sucking monsters and Imperials, but more importantly they have fun together - she encourages him to work on his Force skills, and he successfully moves objects with his mind for the first time (leading to Nakari adorably dub him "a little noddle scooter"). It's a very sweet, if brief, relationship, and a respite from the danger of the mission. They spend the night together (leaving the reader to decide exactly what happened behind closed doors), and share a kiss before splitting up to try and escape bounty hunters. No prizes for guessing what happens to Nakari immediately after she received the Skywalker Kiss of Death.
I assume there were two motivating factors for why Hearne and/or LFL couldn't let Nakari live:
1. If she survived, fans would wonder why she doesn't appear in ESB/subsequent material.
I recall this bandied about on forums back at the time of the book's release, and to that I say - so what? Fans are always going to wonder, and try to paper over the gaps in canon, to make up their own headcanons to explain any any perceived inconsistencies. It's certainly no reason to kill someone off.
It is in fact possible for two young people to have a romance that just fizzles, or doesn’t work out for whatever reason - it should not require great maneuvering or explanation. If Nakari doesn’t show up in the next book in the timeline, what about it? The reader is smart enough to assume she and Luke broke up, decided to just remain friends, whatever. But it seems that the only way for a female character to exit stage left is for her to die, which is bullshit.
And actually, there's no reason why she couldn't have shown up again. ESB and RoTJ cover a month and a few days, respectively, of Luke's life - just because there was no mention of Nakari doesn't mean she didn't exist at that time, whether or not she and Luke were an item. She could have made an appearance in a subsequent novel, or Rebels, or the comics - she could have become a recurring character, showing up when the Rebellion needed her, or - heaven forbid - even have her own comic/book/show! Her existence in Star Wars canon didn't need to begin and end with Luke Skywalker, merely to service his plotline and backstory and abandoning the richness of her own.
No, the only reason Nakari had to die was to facilitate this:
It was a blow to the gut, realizing what that sudden absence meant. I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, but I had felt Nakari's life snuffed out through the Force, and into that void where she had shone anger rushed in - anger, and a cold sense of raw power and invincibility...I took a step to join in the hunt but stopped, breathing heavily, unaccountably sweating even though I felt so cold inside and the power of the Force roiled within me... I shook with emotion and power, and none of it felt the way the Force had before...I saw what kind of space it was , a black hole that would always be hungry no matter how much I fed it. I might never feel warm again if I didn't get myself under control.
Luke feels the dark side and is tempted by the boost of power it offers him, but immediately identifies it as dangerous and unnatural. I can understand why Hearne wanted to include this - it is a book of firsts after all: Luke's first solo mission, his first time using telekenisis, and ending with story with his first experience of the dark side makes sense. But it wasn't necessary, which leads to:
2. How to push Luke to touch the dark side without killing someone he has romantic feelings for?
Also, obviously, shite of the bull (or nerf, if you prefer). Even if this brush with the dark side was absolutely necessary for the novel's climax, there's any number of ways it could be achieved. At this point, Luke is fresh from losing important people in his life - Owen and Beru, Ben, and Biggs - lumping another death on top of that a narrative trick for Luke to react not only to losing Nakari, but the others as well. But it's cheap, the first card in the deck, and why not show a bit of imagination? Luke is young and inexperienced enough at this point that any number of things could be the catalyst - the whole book he's struggling with his growing powers, why not try and reach too far in the firefight with the bounty hunters, his anger and frustration with himself in not doing enough trigger the dark side temptation? It would work thematically and doesn't involve a fridging that ultimately has very little payoff.
Because Nakari is killed less than ten pages from the end of the book - afterwards Luke grieves, but ultimately chooses to honour her memory and be grateful for what he learned with her, recommitting to becoming a Jedi. It's all very surface level, and once again a female character's death facilitates a male character's development. Was it so imperative that Luke lost someone he cared about as part of this story? Sure, this was a time of galactic civil war, and it's far from unrealistic that these stories have a high body count, but who to make collateral damage remains an authorial choice, and in this case Nakari Kelen was (a) a female character of color, (b) a love interest of the protagonist - not just of this book, but the entire Original Trilogy.
I don't know to what extent (if any) race had to play in the decision. I'm sure there was a segment of the fandom absolutely livid that Luke Skywalker kissed (and maybe had sex with) a black woman. Was her death LFL hedging its bets, or demonstrative of the general lack of attention/respect they show their characters of colour?
In any case this was a chance to stand out from the old EU and it's fridge full of Luke's dead girlfriends, but instead they chose to introduce and kill off Nakari for the sole purpose of Luke's manpain and character development, and that's gross.
And then there's this:
A grisly yet reliable fact about custom bounty hunter ships is that you can always count on them to have body bags stashed somewhere for the easy transport of their kills. They often have built-in refrigerated storage, too.
NAKARI IS KILLED AND LITERALLY STORED IN THE FUCKING FRIDGE I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS READING.
I really hope this was unintentional on Hearne's part, because yikes. He was halfway there, this book was full of interesting female characters who had agency - Drusil in particular was a delight with her super math and inability to understand human interaction. Nakari was full of life and fun - capable but relatable, showing a different side of the Rebellion and those that suffered under the Empire's rule. Fridging her in her first appearance is considerably more vile, because it reduces her to a footnote of Luke's story, a plot device to Help Him Grow, rather than a springboard to tell more of her own story.
Because Nakari was a compelling character ripe for spinoff potential. I would absolutely have read or watched her continued adventures, juggling missions for her father's Biolabs company and trying to aid the Rebellion, shooting her slug rifle and cracking wise, maybe even finding a way to amplify her mother's song Vader's Many Prosthetic Parts to really stick it to the Empire, or try and free the political prisoners on Kessel.
The old EU was made great by allies and enemies of Our Heroes showing up again to help or hinder them, and/or branching out into their own material. We fell in love with them, and followed their stories even as they diverged from the main saga, eager to read more about their lives.
Nakari Kelen never got that chance. In many ways, she exemplified what Disney Star Wars was to become: an exercise in wasted potential.

To me, it doesn’t make sense to make Magneto the main villain because it has been done so much before and it would connect it so much to the Fox Films. Also I think there is a GREAT laziness in writing Magneto especially in films. He generally didn’t want to kill all humans, subjugate them yes because he doesn’t trust them. Which isn’t a ‘good guy’ move in itself and he slips in and out of.
He legit murdered genocide I think when he was going to kill all humans. Like no.
I also think that the average cinema goer likes Magneto too much… or maybe that is me. It would also require them to recast the most famous faces of the franchises?
Like is anyone going to care if they recast Jean, Scott, Iceman, Rogue, Kitty, Beast even Mystique but Magneto? I don’t know. I have long been a fan of an actual Jewish actor playing Magneto but following Ian McKellan would be difficult for the casual fans to accept. I don’t think Fassbender left such an amazing impression.
Even my most average MCU fans friends (and god they love the MCU 😤 but I see past it) still talk about how much they want to see a Magneto solo film.
To me I would put the focus on their reveal and sentinels. Then again I thought they’ll go through Krakoa stuff. Like it turns out the mutants have been living on this Island etc
With the ‘simpler times’ comment I have to for the sake of my sanity have to think that it was because Pietro knew where he was. Things were clear to him, as much as it hurt he had his sister. The following trauma had not occurred. Again I don’t think this is true but I am trying to reason bad writing. He didn’t doubt his morality but was indebted and controlled. Shitty actions were out of his control.
I don’t read Avengers so I didn’t know he was shelved for so long.
I think the Trial of Magneto is trying to ride on the coattails of Wandavision because even though she’s not a mutant a lot of the internet was wanting Magneto to show up. So what is the best way to get those fans who wanted to see that? Set up a family comic book where they establish the family again because I guess the MCU fans heard they’ve changed their background and themselves didn’t like it.
I see the Trial of Magneto as something poorly thought out as they saw what the audience was interested in. The timeline kind of clashes uncomfortably with Inferno. Which makes me think it was wedged in there to ride the Wandavision train and undo the retcon on the side of the main storyline.
Thank you for reading my essay/rant
Ok so I'm going to first say you have a lot of great thoughts and great on picking up the whole forced feeling. You are right, it does feel wedged in there and it does feel forced because that's exactly what Marvel did.
The Trial of Magneto was supposed to be an X-Factor plot, it was Leah Williams next arc, here's an article link talking about her podcast: link (yes I know it's bleeding cool but I don't have time to listen to the podcast)
Leah Williams tells us that X-Factor was canceled because Leah's pitch for the Magneto/Wanda story for X-Factor, now called Trial Of Magneto, became such a popular pitch at Marvel but they thought the reader numbers for X-Factor wasn't big enough for this story, so they wanted it as a separate comic. And canceled X-Factor #10 rather than seeing it run as originally planned, with the Trial beginning in X-Factor #15. Williams says she only learned about the cancellation of X-Factor when she was writing #9, so as she had to finish the series quickly, squeezing six issues worth of story into those last two issues, calling it "cramped and rushed".
So I'm not a fan of Leah but the way Marvel treats it's writers has always been terrible so this cancellation doesn't surprise me. Could this be about W*ndaVision? It's likely, but it's more likely this has to do with Hickman bowing out. It's no secret literally everyone hated the retcon and I always knew it would be undone but I didn't think it would take 6 years but here we are.
Hickman leaving is a bigger thing, he stated in an interview ( link ) that he had planned Krakoa and X-Men to be a 3 arc story, and he wasn't allowed to move onto the 2nd arc because the clowns at Marvel liked the idea of Krakoa too much and I'm so mad because that's exactly the kinda behavior that annoys me with the fans, them thinking Krakoa is just a fun playground for the mutants to mess around with.
"Oh, plans have changed entirely," Hickman says. "When I pitched the X-Men story I wanted to do, I pitched a very big, very broad, three-act, three-event narrative, the first of which was House of X. And while this loosely worked as a three-year plan, I told Marvel upfront that I honestly had no idea how long the first part would last because there were a lot of interesting ideas that I had seeded that other creators would want to play with, and so, we left this rather open-ended. I was also pretty clear with all the writers that came into the office what the initial, three-act plan was so no one would be surprised when it was time for the line to pivot." Hickman continues, "However, I also knew that I was cooking with dynamite, and it was very possible that what I had written in House of X, and the ideas contained within, was not actually the first act of a three-act story, but something that resonated more deeply and worked more like Giant-Size X-Men, where it would represent a paradigm shift in the entire X-Men line for a prolonged period of time. So, during the pandemic, when the time came for me to start pointing things toward writing the second-act event, I asked everyone if they were ready for me to do that, and to a man, everyone wanted to stay in the first act. It was really interesting, because I appreciated that House of X resonated with them to the extent that they didn't want it to end, but the reality was that I knew I would be leaving the line early."
I'm so MAD because the thing I was predicting, that Hickman would have it come crashing down and everything would be revealed to be terrible and Mutant Death Sex Cult Island wasn't a paradise is never going to happen because the fucking CLOWNS at Marvel don't want him to move past it. I may have my personal gripes about some of Hickman's writing but we can't deny the man wrote one of the best if only the best Marvel Event with Fantastic Four/Avengers/Secret War.
As for the simpler times comment, like I have my theories that I wrote out here, and that's what I think is most likely but I do think Pietro's life has never been easy or simple once his adoptive parents died. Pietro could be drinking to a time before the Brotherhood.
I would love for a Jewish actor to play Magneto and any other characters who are Jewish. I would love for a Jewish writer to be able to write them too. However Ian's performance literally set him in the minds of the people as Magneto, not even Fassbender's bleh one note Magneto could compare. Imo the only reason people liked the younger Magneto was because he was young, handsome (? ig idk i dont simp for him) and they could ship him with young professor X (cowards. where is the old man ship???) But I feel like a new actor could definitely fill the role if they are Jewish and the writing was good.
Magneto's writing in comics... well I just wish we could have a Jewish writer for him. There's some great stuff for him but I feel like characters like him and Doom could be written better by non white/american writers.
Although by today's standards the og X-Men trilogy doesn't hold up I will defend the first two movies with my life simply because after Blade these movies opened up the idea that a good serious, non campy version where characters called Magneto and Cyclops were taken seriously. X2 in my mind was the definitive X-Men movie. Was it totally comic accurate? No, but it doesn't do what the MCU does, it doesn't treat the watcher like they need to have their hand held through all the military propaganda and "hints to the comics". Also side note; the reason no one cared about any of the other X-Men being recast is because all through most of the X-Men movies the focal story point has been Professor X vs Magneto. If they really want people to care about those characters/actors then we would need stories that focused on them. Not like how Storm barely had any character growth or plot in the og X-Men and even young Ororo got mishandled by the script. This is why I feel we should have "origin movies" for the X-Men that don't do what Wolverine Origins did and try to make a whole new cast but instead should use the stories as they are. If it was Kurt's story then we would see him join the X-Men, and have the other actors revolve around that. Same with each of the others, the X-Men work best when they are working off each other and each given enough screen/page time to shine. Unfortunately we all have our favorites, even movies and writers, so those are who are going to be pushed for fans to love.
Thank you for your long rant and sorry for my own long rant/reply.

“I’ve seen religion from Jesus to Paul” I always thought that line wasn’t about John worshipping Paul, but about other people worshipping Paul. I mean, John is criticising religion in this song, he’s criticising worship. He didn’t believe in Jesus, so “from Jesus to Paul” doesn’t seem like it’s supposed to be about himself and his religions imo. I always thought it was about beatlemania and how people worship Paul like a god when in reality he’s just as flawed as any of us. It’d fit with John being mad at Paul.
I might be wrong of course! I never thought about it as John saying he worshipped Paul, so my point of view isn’t really well thought out or anything. It’s just what goes through my head when I listen to the song. I hope you don’t think I disagree with you or anything 🥺 I just love discussing mclennon
No, I think you’re right, but I also believe it’s more complicated than that.
I found something, and I find it really interesting:
“In this angry and bitter song Lennon attacks a number of falsehoods such as the idolatry of the Beatles and how he is the focus for many of those involved in the peace movement.” [x]
It’s incredibly curious how John went with using only Paul’s name, if that’s what this song is supposed to be about. If it’s supposed to be about the whole band itself, why only use Paul’s name in it? Why be so direct as that? We know why—
“The lyrics are some of Lennon’s most vitriolic, taking shots at religion, his parents, drugs, and even his former songwriting partner (“I seen religion from Jesus to Paul”). It presents a clear perspective on the past, a theme he would revisit on the Imagine album’s ‘Oh My Love’ the following year.” [x]
Now that make’s better sense, since I don’t believe this was taking a shot directly at The Beatles and the period of idolatry (Beatlemania), but taking direct shots at Paul.
It’s hypocritical for him to basically claim people were worshipping Paul like some God or religion, when John was being no better in basically being quite obsessive about the man. The opposite of love isn’t hate, but indifference.
And again, if this song is supposed to be about criticizing the worship and idolatry of The Beatles, why is he only directly referencing Paul McCartney?
Doesn’t add up.
To me this song is not only for John to “air out” his supposed grievances, and emotions/feelings towards Paul, but to be petty, and lash out at his ex-partner.
This song screams scorned lover to me, someone who’s clearly hurt, deeply hurt, and is lashing out and using music to convey how he feels. I don’t agree that it presents a clear perspective on the past, because it’s John in the 70s and we all must acknowledge that 70s John is not at all a reliable narrator, and often contradicted himself in interviews and double backed on what he’d say about the past, and what he had to say or feel about Paul. It’s his perspective, that’s true, but more-so a skewed perspective on not only the past, but of his feelings at the time and heat of the moment, towards Paul.
John was probably not only envious (To John, Paul is stable, he’s put together, and John recognized and acknowledged that Paul was extraordinarily talented and could very well succeed without him), but hurt that Paul, it seemed, didn’t need him to get along. A fear that most likely rooted and became a nagging insecurity, after Paul unleashed Yesterday in 1965, and then came the questions of whether Paul would leave The Beatles (John) and start a solo career.
It’s obvious that the band broke up because of what was going on between John and Paul, their falling out due to John’s growing lack of involvement due to his use of heroin, which made him unapproachable and testy, his unhealthy escapism into Yoko and her influence/presence. In the end, it’s no real surprise that Paul left. John resented it, even if it was his fault, his doing and behavior that left Paul with no other choice then to abandon ship.
So, Paul left him, and was planning on going solo, and launching his own band in the next year.
Now let me point something out put on your tinfoil hats let’s see if I don’t lose any of you here lol—
Now that I showed you what I been through Don't take nobody's word what you can do There ain't no Jesus gonna come from the sky Now that I found out I know I can cry I, I found out I, I found out
Okay, so I’m reading the two lyrics “There ain’t no Jesus gonna come from the sky,” and “Now that I found out I know I can cry,” as connected. While yes John didn’t seem to believe in Jesus, he was still spiritual. Now, take those two lyrics, of some messiah not going to come and how the realization of it, of the fact this religion or ‘God’ isn’t going to come down and save you— and finding this out, of course you’re going to cry.
What you believed was going to somehow save you, save you from the miseries of life and save you from yourself, wasn’t actually going to come, or happen, that can really break person who was relying on such faith.
I seen through junkies, I been through it all I've seen religion from Jesus to Paul Don't let them fool you with dope and cocaine No one harm you feel your own pain I, I found out I, I found this out I, I found out
Now, I do agree that John is knocking religion and idolatry worship, but also taking shots at Paul.
But I just think John’s outing himself here, because, okay look. John’s seen through junkies— John was a junkie when writing this, let’s be real. He can say he isn’t fooled by them, but he clearly is— he was fooling himself.
So let’s just go with John is apparently attacking The Beatles here— we all know John loved The Beatles, and had just as much faith and passion for it as Paul did. He put all his eggs in that theoretical basket.
And throughout the height of The Beatles, who were the two always together? Who had plans about sticking together and growing old together still making music? Who two had ideas to write a musical together, one day?
John and Paul were John and Paul, and both believed it was always going to be that way. They’d mentioned running off to Scotland to escape a potential draft, Paul had said that after The Beatles he and John would still continue making music together, that as they got older they’d even make music for other, younger musicians to play. It was ALWAYS John and Paul, like, always.
So imagine you have all this faith in someone, all this love, you see them as a stable structure in your life, someone who rarely let’s you down, who’s ALWAYS going to be there for you, who has shared so many intimate experiences with, who knows you and has seen you without your armor on, seen the good the  bad and the ugly and still wants to be with you, who you’ve shared similar, vivid dreams with, who would experience misery and fear with you (the LSD trip), who seemingly shares a secret and unspoken language with you— only for all of it, to fall flat, for it to go horribly wrong, for them to (unintentionally) reject you, to hurt you and leave you feeling abandoned and alone. That perhaps they don’t love you in the way you’d come to the realization that you wanted them too.
For you to realize, or feel, like they can’t save you, that they can’t fix you. Because, like you said, Paul isn’t perfect, he doesn’t always have it together, he wasn’t as stable as John believed him to be naturally— Paul’s just as flawed as any of us. He was struggling too, and simply couldn’t always meet John’s sometimes unrealistic expectations and desires.
I think in some way, The Beatles, and thus Paul, were somewhat of a religion to John. He believed in them unlike anything else. Even if partially satirical, the comment of them becoming Bigger than Jesus, I think that in itself is worship (even if that’s unintentional, or perhaps a Freudian slip) of what they all created together— what John and Paul created together. That they could become more popular than Jesus Christ himself, and the religions he’s attached too.
So I honestly believe John was just telling on himself throughout this song. How John wrote his songs, they were personal, they had something to do with him, how he felt and perceived things, his desires and fears— even when attacking or criticizing someone, or something else.
Cor I could be 100% completely wrong in my interpretation and analysis, and I’m just a biased McLennoner who needs to shaddup.
Now a side tangent real quick because I found this and I have something to say:
“This song includes the line: "The freaks on the phone won't leave me alone, so don't give me that brother, brother." Lennon explained the lyric to the January edition of Rolling Stone. He said: "I'm sick of all these aggressive hippies or whatever they are, the "Now Generation," being very up-tight with me. Either on the street or anywhere, or on the phone, demanding my attention, as if I owed them something."  [x]
In 1969 he and Yoko did that performative, elitist Bed In For Peace for two whole bloody weeks. Not to mention spreading all that “War is over if you want it to be,” sloganeering. Of course they (the hippie Now Generation) expected something from him, he’d been playing political activist with Yoko for attention, and he got it. So for him to be bitching about suddenly being looked too as some leading figure for these movements, I think is pretty telling.
Like how it mentioned up there, that John had an issue being part of the main focus for those in the ‘Peace movement’, I think it’s funny, or at most annoying, how people claim John was some hippie or commie when, I think it was clear, he didn’t want anything to do with those individuals or whatever they were selling (I mean John was materialistic and a capitalist, all the boys were) John wasn’t political, he wasn’t very interested in all that, and like with most things, his fascination and interest in it faded quickly and he became bored and disillusioned by the ideologies and political figures, and dropped them.
I’m not saying John didn’t care, like anyone he had opinions and thoughts, feelings on subjects— he wasn’t seriously into politics. He wasn’t a political leader, he didn’t want to become a political figure or martyr, he wasn’t a radical of any sorts, and had admitted later on about being embarrassed about who he was during the Imagine period of his life, and regretted a lot of what he’d said or done.
Anyway... I know this was supposed to be about dissecting the lyrical and personal(mclennon) meaning too “I’ve seen religion from Jesus to Paul,” but it really is all over the place. Sorry about that.
