My favorite thing about Steph and Cass’s relationship, and something that’s been kind of lost in canon and fandom, is that originally they were NOT uwu wholesome.
Cass was kind of an asshole who DESPERATELY wanted to protect Steph and would undermine her to do so (sometimes violently), and Steph was DESPERATE to be taken seriously as a vigilante and would sometimes get in over her head to do so.
That being said, they formed a connection with each other anyway, and that’s what makes them so special to me. In an era that was very much into “let’s have the two girls fight,” it was so amazing to see two girls who wanted to do GOOD and FOUGHT to do so coming together and becoming friends.

Ive been thinking about revamping it and actually turning it into a real webcomic - probably because i rly love Angel and Dorian and ive been obsessed with them lately. you can not separate riddler from his npd or ocd, they are both extremely important parts to his character and is what makes him the riddler. Without these he wouldn't leave riddles at his crime scene and be so adamant about besting the batman

Hey Fox! For your ‘It Spreads’ did you write a script for how you want it to go before planning and drawing out the comic?
For It Spreads my process changed a lot throughout the making of the series, but yes! The general process for it was:
Have the general idea of storybeats that have to happen in the chapter.
Write out the dialogue in a word doc for the chapter
Thumbnail pages
Clean the pages
I'm also carrying that through to Skyfell as well since its a process I can easily wrap my head around

Hey, I just finished the Young Justice 1998 comics (it was very good, I enjoy it a lot) and wanted to ask what should I read next? (I have some ideas but am not entirely sure since I haven't read a lot of DC's stuff)
Young Just Us Gang:
You can read any of the three solos for Tim (Robin 1993), Bart (Impulse 1995) and Kon (Superboy 1994), but Bart's is probably the most similar in tone to the YJ books.
If you want to continue seeing these characters together, then you can read Young Justice/Titans: Graduation Day (2003) and then Teen Titans (2003). Cassie never really gets a solo but she is a major player in that run which has 100 issues. Superboy gets a mini story in Adventure Comics: Boy of Steel (2009) and then another short solo called Superboy Vol 5 (2011). Tim obviously has a very long Robin solo, but you can also read Red Robin (2009) .
They also have Young Justice (2019) that features a lot of other characters, and currently Bart has been showing up a lot in the current Flash run (he has a story dedicated to him in Flash #800). Tim appears in a lot of runs like Tim Drake: Robin (2022) and such. Kon also has a mini solo called Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow (2023) !!
(I really havent read anything from the 2011-2016 era)
Other Recs:
If you're interested in more characters with similar age ranges, then Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown books are really fun! Just as a basic list: Batgirl (2000), Batgirl (2009), Batgirls (2022)
Or Supersons (2016) for younger characters like Damian Wayne and Jon Kent. These characters both have a lot of runs as well if you are interested.
There's also the old Teen Titans runs you can read with Dick Grayson!
So yeah there's a lot!!!! I could go on and on haha
If you're curious the main things I'm reading right now are mostly marvel but got some dc stuff too. Im reading Superboy: Man of Tomorrow, all of Kate Bishop and America Chavez's comics and basically the whole young avengers gang, hoping to get through Booster Gold's solo, and I wanna read Nova (Sam Alexander) and the Champions run.

News… And Then Even More News
So... a lot happened when I was gone.
Tumblr media
First, the relaunch. I love that they're getting a lot of fresh faces on the book. I'm not familiar with a lot of their work (Besides Chiang, I love Paper Girls), but I heard a lot of good shit about Aaron, and I'm loving what I see Infront of my eyeballs with the artists. I love the direction that Sophie took, and I'm very excited for this new direction.
Although, there is one big thing I'm worried about. Jennika. I know that the Alpha one shot is gonna be about her, but it still worries me a bit. She is the fifth turtle, man. Like she should be up there you know? I pray she isn't written off the main book.
Also, personally I'm pretty indifferent on resetting to #1. It can be seen as a pretty desperate move, but also slapping a #1 on a book fucking works. Hopefully this gets more people talking about the book at least. Hopefully this lasts another 150 issues.

Fuck. Yes.
We knew that this was happening for a bit, but I still wanted to show off how coooool this is. Also, apparently it's on ongoing and not a mini series. Again, Fuck. Yeah. I really love street level TMNT stuff, and this seems to be the ultimate version of that. It's also written by Juni-Ba, who did some incredible work for the series already so I already know this is gonna be fire.
I got some hypotheses on who the hell Nightwatcher is. Obviously, the original is Raph, and it still might be. It also might be Jennika, since they are very clearly turtle shaped and with the seemingly lack of appearance in the main title. It also could be Metalhead? And like he got a new smaller body and turned into a vigilante for some reason. It could also be future Raph from the 2023 annual. The Nightwatchers' left arm doesn't match his right, maybe implying that it's completely robotic thus replacing his lack of arm? Idk. I'm excited none the less.

SANTOLOUCOSANTOLOUCOSANTOLOUCOSANTOLOUCOSANTOLOUCOSANTOLOUCOSANTOLOUCOSANTOLOUCO
Mateus Santolouco is back on art. That's it. That's all I need. I'm hype.
On top of that it's gonna be written by Erik Burnham, and the story seems super interesting too lore wise. Sorry I don't have much to say other than SANTOLOUCOSANTOLOUCOSANTOLOUCOSANTO-
Also some cool side characters getting more screen time.

Tumblr media
Holy shit. OMG.
I need to fucking calm down, Jesus. Anyway. Tom and Sophie are returning with a new ongoing. Very very little is known about this but I assume it's gotta do with Hob and Mutant Island, along with the general Mutant issue now that the wall is broken. I can't wait man. I also assume the second half of Alpha is gonna directly tie into this ongoing. Also, Maligna? Or something. Fuck, maybe that's Linsey...
Poor bastard.
Tumblr media
That's all the news for the main continuity, I'll briefly go over some other stuff. Saturday Morning Adventures is still going strong WITH TURTLES FOREVER 2 AND USAGI CROSSOVER????!!!!???!?!?!
Also anthology series. I bet that's gonna be really fun.
Cya.

also for context Peter (aka colosses) had romantic feelings for kitty and she loves him with all her heart the x men got unexpectedly teleported off world to aid in a battle in that battle Peter claims to have fallen in love with another that died in his arms he knew this new love for like less then a week and kitty for a while if you don't know who kitty is she's another member of the x men they also had her appear in wolverine and the x men and I think x men evolution, ..Peter ended up telling kitty he has fallen in love with another and no longer loves her and kinda just left her heart broken and wolverine is knocking some sense into him...and he was so funny about it also they happened to run into juggernaut in the bar here
Note: I have one more screenshot for this but I'll include it in the reblog

How do you think Doom's dictatorship should be portrayed? I'm personally always very uncomfortable when writers try to go the "benevolent autocrat" route, and after making online friends with an F4 fan whose parents and extended family actually suffered under such a regime (and who is imo rightfully furious whenever writers try to depict Doom's rule as being actually good or "worth it"), in addition to everything going on in Eastern Europe right now and the alarming rise in nationalist and authoritarian-leaning politics/politicians/ parties/voters all over the world, I'm admittedly even more critical of that depiction. It just seems incredibly irresponsible, disingenuous to how real-life human hierarchies/economies/politics/psychology actually work, and disrespectful to the past, present, and future victims of these regimes. (Not to mention the fact that Lee/Kirby, two Jewish WWII vets, were pretty explicitly satirizing the very concept of "benevolent dictatorship" with Doom in their original F4 run, and being Doom's two daddies, they'd probably know best.)
But that's just my opinion, and I'm curious to what extent (if any) that you agree with me, as a fellow Doom connoisseur. Thanks, and I hope you and your loved ones have a safe and blessed rest of your week. <3
Thanks and I hope you and yours are healthy and safe as well ❤️
While I don't personally know the other F4 fans you speak of, or what the full context is around their feelings for Doom, I do understand why they and you might be uncomfortable with characters like this and that's fine since you don't have to like characters, and if they want to be mad at writers for portraying Doom that way then that's their right but I don't agree with them. I'd personally rather Doom be a benevolent autocrat than the writers try to inject hilter dictatorship into Doom's character/imagery. I find that very disturbing for a character like Victor to be subjected to, because Nazism isn't something I take lightly and definitely feel it's inappropriate for a character with Victor's background to ever be linked with.
I'm gonna put this really simply; it's fiction. Doom can be a benevolent autrocrat, be beloved by his people, have little children throwing flowers in his path, and be a villain to the Fantastic Four at the same time and be depicted as a good thing for the Latverian people because it's fiction.
There's a time and place for discussion when it comes to how fiction affects real life, but it doesn't work in Doom's case because showing Doom in this light does not mean any writer endorses an autocratic ruler nor will have an impact in Real Life because there is no such thing as a real life benevolent dictator who gives his country and people free healthcare, education, safety, security, prosperity, and the freedom to worship whom they please/live their lives in return for their complete obedience and being unable to critize Doom's rule. It's literally never happened in real life. There is no such thing as a good government in the entire world, because there will always be a time or government or leader who has harmed their people or other people in all manner of ways. There is not one single country in the whole world that gives equal rights to every citizen, doesn't harm people either physically or through their laws/government system, and provides everything every single person needs with justice and fairness.
You say it's disrespectful for writers to portray Victor in this way but disrespectful to whom? Disrespectful to people who suffered under real life dictatorships? They don't have to like the character or agree with the writer, but I've already established that a fictional character/story doesn't take precedence over real life suffering and I hope people understand there is a line of separation between enjoying fiction that has flaws/isn't good/has darker elements vs real life. As readers it's our responsibility to determine what we can and cannot handle in fiction.
Disrespectful to the characters? Latveria is fictional, the characters are all fictional, if we take into context the history of Latveria in the 616 and look at Victor through the eyes of the citizens of Latveria, both Romani and non Romani citzens, then to them Victor is a hero, he led a rebellion and resistance against the rich and powerful ruling royal class of Latveria who were absolutely horrible to their citizens.
If we are continuing in the context of the 616 universe, "how could Doom's people love him/look up to him even though he's set on world domination" then you have to acknowledge first that world domination isn't feasible in the real world at all, that's a non issue, and second that Doom wasn't created out of thin air, he didn't wake up one day and go "well I'm gonna take over my country and then the world" He was built from the oppression and crimes against himself and his people by the ruling class of Latveria. Kirby and Lee's origin for Victor isn't one of a tyrannical overlord deciding he's in charge, it's the story of a boy outcast from the main society because of his background, oppressed by the government/ruling class, orphaned as a child, and hellbent on gaining power because of his circumstances.
If you feel Victor is satire then that's your interpretation but I personally feel that silver age villainy is an era comic readers have outgrown and shouldn't apply to today's character, because by that logic then Magneto would still be seen as an allegory for mutant supremacy because that's how Kirby and Lee portrayed him, but instead over time he was transformed into a character who's past suffering had a righteous (if flawed at times) cause. Both Doom and Magneto were made in the same era but while Victor's past was laid out from day one, Erik's past was created so much later.
Just like the Mafia Boss with the Heart of Gold, who is a totally bad guy but he protects his people/loved ones is a fictional and very popular trope, it's unrealistic in the real world because Mafia/Mob/Crime bosses make their living doing things/crimes that hurt others.
Anyways I think it's a non-issue that Victor is portrayed as a benevolent autocrat. I think it's interesting to have him be portrayed as such because it fits into his characterization of him believing that all people who don't have his level of intelligence are beneath him and he must treated as children or sheep he must herd and care for. It fits with his ego being so large that he believes that him being in charge is the only path forward. It's a great way to study the character too because Victor is very fascinating to me.

Have we read the same comics, I wonder 😅
Sure, I’m not a fan of how he looks in some early comics but Morpheus is hella fine in other ones 😳
But I do really like the show Morpheus as well.

Thinking tonight about the goobers who voted for Jason Todd to die because it would be “interesting for Batman’s character”…only for DC to have no meaningful follow up and immediately assign Batman a new Robin.
Wow. What a bunch of absolute sandwiches.

I know you don't read any gl past gl rebirth but also this is the worst panel I've ever seen so other Hal fans have to see it to suffer with me
Tumblr media
I'm about to scream over this why this is just so wrong on so many levels
It's so bad. It's so fucking bad. Also fun story about this panel I went to a tom king signing last year to get my supergirl trade signed, and before i went i asked my friend loof if they wanted anything signed and they said this specific panel bc it would be funny. So I printed out a picture of this panel and stuck it in my trade for safe keeping as you do. and when i handed it to tom king to get it signed, he asked me who my favourite superhero was and immediately opened up my supergirl trade to see a large picture of hal jordan 😭. anyways then he talked about how he took a philosophy course in college and realized how "ambiguous" the definition of willpower is and that people got really mad over the panel and i stood there like ahaha wow thats crazy

If you write riddler as faking his mental disorders you automatically made a shit adaption. Riddler is not the riddler without his ocd. Riddles aren't just a gimmick, riddles is his obsession, riddles is his compulsion, riddles is his LIFE
One bad day riddler did not deserve to win any awards, I can only hope at this point they won't mainstream that adaption. Dc needs trying quit trying to make every single of their gotham villains into the next joker. Fuck obd: riddler and fuck you Tom king !!
