Not that I read mpreg all that often (not really my thing generally speaking) but I came across some "Sanji is pregnant" fics in the sanzo/zosan tag, and not nearly the same amount for Zoro. It got me thinking about the trope. I think the lack of Zoro fics here is a tragic oversight. I think we as a fandom are absolutely and tragically ignoring the potential comedy gold of Zoro being the one to be pregnant instead.
Because when people write Sanji, the general trend I'm seeing (upon scanning through some of the fics quickly) is that he's cautious about it. Conscientious, careful to make sure things are okay. Which - arguably I could see, Sanji is probably the more practical of the two (not by a whole lot but still)and he didn't have a good childhood. Sanji being pregnant is usually a fic about his heaps of parental issues, childhood trauma and angst - which is fun to read. It's good. It's amazing, even.
Zoro being pregnant is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT gonna be a COMEDY. We're talking about a man who once tried to fight Kuina holding like 20 bokkens. We're talking about a man who got stuck in wax and thought the reasonable solution was to cut off his legs.
The entire crew spends the next 9 months tearing their hair out, preventing Zoro from doing stupid shit (exhibit A: cutting off his own limbs). They spend the same amount of time trying to stop Luffy from gum-gum-grabbing Zoro and yeeting him anytime he needs to get them out of a sticky situation.
The crew (mostly Sanji) is on 24/7 prevent-zoro-from-drinking-alcohol duty (impossible). Chopper is constantly stressed in the later months cause no one puts it past Zoro to get lost somewhere, give birth out in the woods and come strolling back with a baby tucked under his arm. They have to start hiding Zoro's dumbbells.
Franky and Usopp design and build a nursery and spends the entire time suspiciously teary eyed. Sanji tries to pretend he's unaffected but spends an entire night creating a 9 month meal plan of all the nutrients Zoro and the baby are gonna need. Not even a day later, one of the crew finds him up at 2 am making a mountain of food because Zoro made the mistake of offhandedly mentioning he had particular pregnancy craving within earshot of Sanji. In the end Zoro has to sit on him to stop Sanji from running himself ragged.
Robin keeps spouting morbid childbirth facts and quotes from parental advice books in equal measure. Nami keeps going on shopping sprees for cute baby clothes and adding the cost of them to Zoro's debt. Brook keeps writing lullabies and trying to sing them to Zoro's stomach. Zoro 100% uses his pregnancy belly as an excuse to walk around without a shirt 24/7 without getting nagged.
Somehow word gets out that the famous pirate hunter Zoro is pregnant, and at the next big fight with the Marines, half the soldiers refuse to fight him and instead start telling him to sit down, take it easy, shouting advice at him etc. Etc. Zoro loses his shit a little bit and cuts their boat in half.
Mihawk, upon finding out, tells Zoro in no uncertain terms that that is his grandchild and he's expecting them to visit so he can meet the baby when they're born. Zoro vehemently denies that Mihawk is his father (he is). Zeff upon finding out, is almost as bad as Sanji when it comes to being a mother hen. Perona buys even more baby clothes for the baby. She buys one singular shirt for Zoro as a joke, and it coincidentally happens to be the exact same brand of "mama" crop top he was forced to wear in that one filler episode. Zoro tries to chuck it into the ocean (he fails).
I'm essentially saying it would be absolute chaos, and it would be the funniest thing I've ever read. 9 months of Marimo wrangling. Can you imagine the look on Zoro's face if one of the opponents he was fighting were to tell him that he's "glowing"?
PLEASE, I would actually wheeze myself to death. The best part is you can still have plenty of Sanji angst. He still has parental issues except now they're flavoured with "I'm not ready to be a father" and "I'm terrified I'm gonna become my biological sperm donor" and "please don't die because of childbirth complications, that happened to my mother(sort of, I know she died after but it kinda counts), and I can't handle that happening again to you". Lots of cute/tender moments of Zoro comforting and reassuring Sanji. We can even have Zoro angst. He probably views protecting his crew as the one and only job he's good for (not true but that's probably what he thinks). Not being able to fulfill that is probably not helping his self esteem, and that sense of uselessness warring with his need to protect the baby - but the contradictory thing here is that to protect the baby he HAS to sit back and let other people do that FOR him. That plus all the other restrictions, people treating him differently, but him at the same time refusing to view his own child as a weakness. Imagine the havoc that would wreak. Oh my god.
Y'all don't understand, I don't even read mpreg that often and yet this is literally my ideal fic HAHAAAAA

Pirate AU!! Thank you @stringofturtles for watching OFMD S1 with me and re-igniting my Pirate Emotions so I had the motivation to finish this. The first sketches have been sitting in my files for months so please forgive the fact that they look different skdfjh.
More fleshed out AU details under the cut !! :D
- The kids are a little older than canon - the third years in their early 20s - but the story still starts with the second and third years as an established crew who then pick up the first years and the coaches.
- Daichi as a Captain is of course very much like he is in canon. He works very hard to take care of his crew and takes on a huge responsibility for providing for them (as well as making sure they don’t die in idiotic ways). Suga is First Mate so it’s his job to make sure DAICHI is okay and not worrying himself to death. He also has a good handle on morale/the emotional state of the crew.
- Asahi is the first line of offence when dealing with other ships. He doesn’t like actually hurting people, but he’s good at breaking ranks and barrelling through defences to get hold of whatever Karasuno needs. He was ‘off the team’ and out of commission for a little while after he lost his hand (not seeing combat while he was in recovery, and needing to build up his courage again). Noya played a huge part in helping him back onto his feet, and has been kind of protective ever since.
- Noya’s job is to make sure the ship isn’t boarded, so he very rarely leaves it.
- Ennoshita and Kiyoko work together as navigators and managing the little money the crew has. Ennoshita is the only crew member in the beginning who can kind-of read (Kiyoko can only read a little), and they work a lot with maps and planning out journeys.
- Tanaka is great at intimidating opponents. His eyepatch is totally for show - he thinks it makes him look cooler and scarier. His parrot doesn’t often co-operate with him.
- Narita and Kinoshita take care of maintenance and supplies and making sure there isn’t gunpowder anywhere there shouldn’t be, as well as things like fraying rigging and rotting boards/canons secure and the like. Of course, things like that are everyone’s responsibility, but these two consider is theirs particularly. It’s thankless work but the boat would definitely have burned down by now if not for them.
- Enter the first years!
- Kageyama is a prodigy swordsman with a huge reputation as a lethal pirate, although most people who spread those rumours don’t realise he’s as young as he is. He was marooned by his previous crew for being a controlling Captain (who should never have been captain in the first place, having only his fighting talent as the real reason).
- Hinata recently ran away from home to “become a pirate” without much of an idea what that actually entailed, and ran into Kageyama without knowing his reputation. All he knew was that this guy was incredible fighter, and he demanded that he teach him to fight! He now won’t leave him alone.
- Tsukishima ran away as a very young child in an attempt to find Akiteru, whose sailing ship was attacked and lost at sea. He fell in with pirates along with Yamaguchi (who was picked up after surviving a shipwreck), and the pair ended up sticking together as they bounced from ship to ship, ready to run whenever it seemed like tensions were getting high. They (read: tsukki) are going to need to break this habit, if they’re going to be a real part of this new crew.
- Tsukishima and Yamaguchi can’t sleep if they’re not in the same hammock. Embarrassing. The reason Yamaguchi was so tiny as a little kid is that he didn’t get enough food. Tsukishima still tries to sneak him extra (and gets in trouble with Daichi).
- Tadashi ends up as a sharpshooter, one of the few kids who’s confident using a pistol
- Hinata and Kageyama spar together all the time. It’s GOING to end in a make-out the first time Hinata successfully beats him.
- Neither of them have noticed that Tanaka’s eyepatch switches sides.
- Yachi is picked up when the crew stop in a bar in her town. She’s a better-off girl, about to be talked into an politically advantageous marriage, and desperately wants to get out of her situation. “Running away with pirates” was admittedly pretty drastic, but anything sounds like a good idea when Hinata suggests it so sincerely!!
- Ukai is a washed up older pirate, without a crew. Takeda is a very unlucky literature teacher who just happened to be on a sea voyage. They both ended up taken as hostages by the same (meaner) pirate crew, who were then stolen by the Karasuno kids. Although, it’s kind of unclear at this point whether they’re actually prisoners… They’re being treated very nicely (especially Sensei) and are in danger of getting attached…

📂Invitation
Featuring: Ace x fem!reader
Warning: Suggestive, established relationships
Note: I love writing about Ace, what can I say..
Tumblr media
You were sitting at a table in this mildly crowded bar with some member of the crew. You played with your ustensiles as you felt jealousy building up. Your eyes throwing daggers at Ace’a tattooed back. Your boyfriend was caught up in a conversation with two, not one, but two women at the bar.
He was always painted as an extrovert as he enjoyed meeting new people and getting to know them. It goes without to say that he also had a lot of friends and your relationship itself started on a friendship.
There was nonetheless an issue that you couldn’t quite fix with him, he was too fkg flirty with strangers. He could be social or whatever he said, but you knew he just likes to get a reaction out of you by throwing a nice smile at some random girl.
-Are you planning a murder? Marco teased as he watched you glare at the fire user.
Your gaze shifted to your friend and you let a deep sigh with a defeated expression.
-Ugh, he’s so annoying.
You whined while ruthlessly dropping the spoon on the table with a slight pout. He chuckled while throwing a good luck, knowing it won’t be simple to tame down his younger brother bad habits. Ace loved you more than anything else in this world and he always made it really clear, but he was also playing on your nerves sometimes.
You sipped on your drink, trying to forget about this and enjoy your time here, before going back to the boat and sail for days or maybe weeks.
-Y/n, let me fix your lipstick. A gloss would make them pop too.
Izou commented noticing the change in your behaviour ever since y’all got there. He tried to distract your thoughts and it kind of worked as you agreed and searched through your purse.
He handed you a shade he thought you would like and you grabbed it before applying your gloss on top.
-Oh! I really like it! Thanks!
You exclaimed happy as you checked yourself out in your small mirror pocket. Then, Izou and you engaged in a fun conversation talking about your similar interest and your impressions of the island. By that time, you forgot about Ace, not even noticing a man stopping behind you and tapping your shoulder. Izou frowned and you looked over them to see a handsome tan man smiling at you.
-Hey, I couldn’t miss how pretty you are and I was wondering if I could maybe invite you for a drink? I hope I’m not interrupting!
He explained and finished by pointing at you and your friend. You shook your head with a giggle. You smiled back flattered by the compliment and his politeness, but you had a boyfriend (even tho he wasn’t really boyfriending rn💀).
-I’m sorry, I already have a boyfriend.
You replied with an apologetical smile. He seemed disappointed, but flashed his light teeth again and you noticed a dimple on each of his cheeks.
-Alright, then! That sucks, but do you mind if I still get you something? Anything that you want, it’s on me tonight.
-Uh..I mean, I’m not really sure. You can go ask my boyfriend. If he’s fine with it, then I will be more than happy to have free food~
You retorted unsure as you quickly glanced at Marco next to you. Marco smirked to himself as he sipped on his beer. You pointed at your man so the stranger could see who was the “boyfriend” in question.
-Damn, he seems to have quite the company..
He commented under his breath, giving you flashbacks of your early night. You frowned annoyed and rolled your eyes.
-Yeah, tell me about it.
You spat with bored eyes, clearly over the situation. You didn’t wanna give it to Ace, that you were jealous and to go up to him and be like “ hey girlies, that’s my man y’all flirting with, by the way~ I’m sorry to break the possible threesome ideas, but here’s the truth.” To then beat him up for being such a manwhore.
Anyway…
The guy nodded as he chuckled. He walked away towards the pirate with confidence and just stole one of Aces fries. It earned him a dark glare from him that you and to stop breathing for a sec. You didn’t want a fight to break out here in the middle of the night.
-Are we getting some actions tonight ?
Marco commented with a teasing tone. The other guys laughed as you just gave a confused look to Izou.
-Soo, I heard the pretty girl there say you’re her boyfriend. Is that true ?
Ace’s eyebrows furrowed as he glanced at you and noticed your table and few others were looking at the scene. You rubbed your face with your hands expecting the worse. He turned his body sideways so he was kinda facing the man.
-Yeah it’s true. Why do you wanna know?
-Because I wanna invite her for a drink and some food.
-Go ask someone else, she’s taking.
Ace spat back annoyed, you could see his already thin patience running out. He grabbed his hat on the counter and put it over his dark hair. He stood up, standing face to face with the stranger. You noticed the two girls exchange a look, before they stared at you and gave you a sorry smile, that you awkwardly received.
-Well, she refused anyway, but I still wanna invite her table.
The man continued plainly as he was lighting up a cigarette. Ace cocked one of his eyebrow as he was thinking about it, he looked at you for a plit second. Your boyfriend rolled his eyes and smirked, his signature cocky grin.
-Nah, if she needs anything, she has me. So we will be good thanks. Go find another girl, there is plenty of them here.
He concluded, but the man in front of him didn’t seem satisfied. He exhaled a cloud of smoke in your boyfriend’s face, before he slightly leant in front of Ace.
-Then be by her side, cowboy.
It was the last straw for your boyfriend that grabbed the stranger collar and punched him in the stomach. The stranger fell on the floor dragging a table in his fall. An uproar surged in the bar, people yelling excited from the unfolding fight.
-I don’t need to hear it from you.
Ace growled back as he walked away from him. You shook your head not quite believing this encounter turned into a fight. He walked over to the table you were sitting with an apologetic smile. You glared at him with a disapproving expression.
-Hey, sorry for creating a scene. I should’ve stayed with you more tonight.
He apologized with a peck on your forehead. The commander put his hat on your head. You sighed but a small smirk creeped up your lips. You pushed his hat slightly backward so you can stare at him.
-Then make up for it, Fire Fist~

OKAY HEAR ME OUT. i saw you wanted to write an izzy x reader that had to do with swordfighting—what if the reader is one of olu and/or jim’s friends whom they stumbled upon again randomly either at sea or on land and they bring the reader back to join the crew. izzy’s skeptical at first, i can picture him saying something like “so we’re really just letting anyone on this ship now, are we?” but some time passes and they are getting attacked but the reader shows up and shows out with their AMAZING swordsmanship skills and izzy is blown away but also a little jealous haha. it takes him some time to finally get over his ego and do this, but he ends up asking for some lessons from the reader and so they start doing it a few times a week when everyone is asleep and while they’re dueling and practicing is the only time they really get to talk but they do talk while they’re doing so and they’re learning a lot about each other and then they gradually fall in love?? please feel free to ignore this if you don’t want to do it by any means, but i feel like you’d write it so well! i love your fics so much🫶
Tumblr media
Izzy Hands x Reader
words: 4000
google docs pages: 8,5
Warnings: None, I don’t think. A minor injury, at most?
opening: You bump into some old friends who offer you a new occupation. The first mate of the ship is sceptical of you, but his mind changes when he witnesses a sword fight you’re having. Izzy builds up the courage to ask for tutoring lessons, and there start the long hours of teaching him your knowledge.
AN// Reader can be any gender, though I guess I’ve forgotten to mention in the previous fanfics that the pirate terminology is rather male based, since women weren’t allowed on ships. But feel free to ignore that as gender affirming and take it as just generic terms. Thank you so much for this request, I was dying to write something related to swords and Izzy !! I had a lot of fun with this, and I hope yall will enjoy it as well^^ ! (This became a little longer than intended, apologies for that :”D)
 “A victory and the reward”
A new ship had appeared near the shore of the Republic of Pirates, and those usually intrigued you. You hadn’t been on a vessel yourself for years now, but each time you saw a new ship appear it did bring back memories, so you would go and watch them. After your sailing days, you’d told yourself that a life at sea wasn’t for you. And you started believing that after surviving the latest sinking of a ship you’d been on. But that might have been a lie, knowing you had regretted the decision almost every day after.
Now, this new ship laid upon your eyes. In no time at all a jolly boat started making distance from the main vessel, making its way towards the shore. You made sure to stay hidden enough that your staring wasn’t obvious. You could never know who you’d come across with foreign ships.
The men left the boat, spreading across the shore and towards the more urban area of the Republic. Though, two of them stayed behind, and at least to you it was rather clear they’d done it on purpose. Being in your thoughts, you hadn’t even realised that one of them had noticed you, surreptitiously pointing your presence out to their friend. You weren’t armed but they most certainly were, so running away straight after being pointed out wasn’t going to end well for you.
They approached you, but the closer they came the more familiar their faces became. One of them being more familiar to you than the other, but you’d seen them both before. The pair stopped at a safe distance, but by the way they looked they must have been feeling the same way as you. Confused. “Jim? Olu…?” You asked carefully, voice a little lost as you stared at the pair. You’d met Jim multiple years ago, when they were only at the beginning of their ‘quest’. You’d spent time with them for quite a while, up until you’d found a new crew and left for the sea, as it called you. Olu you had only met more briefly through Spanish Jackie. But both of them you were familiar with.
“How are you alive?” Jim asked straight away, clearly a little curious through the initial shock. You stared at them blankly for a moment. Oh, yeah. The sunken ship. “You know, what could kill the evil?” You shrugged in almost an animated way, adding a chuckle at the end. Both of them seemingly had heard of what had gone down on the last ship you’d been on, Olu clearly interested as well. “Come on, you have to tell us!” Jim added, walking closer in a friendly manner. “Those days are behind me, I’m only a mere landlubber nowadays.” You chuckled, the sting of saying that still hitting deep. “You?” Olu asked, tone of voice making it clear he didn’t want to believe it. And you wouldn’t have either, only if you weren’t saying it yourself. “Mm, you know how it goes. I retired, as they say.” You replied, an attempt to lighten the mood on your part. “Mm, and I don’t believe that?” He insisted, making you give them both an intense stare before your shoulders slumped. “I haven’t dared to go back since the last sinking. Though, I regret leaving that life behind”, You sighed with a defeated shrug, expression soon turning to a more confused one due to what you heard next.
Jim had suggested for you to join the Revenge’s crew, who had already come together with Blackbeard’s crew. The old sailor in you activated almost immediately, shaking their hand in agreement. Before hopping on the boat you’d be calling home, you met their captain, Stede. He wasn’t the typical captain you’d sail with, but seeing as he’d accepted you rather quickly, you did the same for him. Accepted him as your captain. But after getting on the ship itself, you would meet someone who wouldn’t accept you so warmly. Like one of the old sea dogs you’d sailed with years before. A relic, you thought sometimes when he got on your nerves enough.
Almost the moment you stepped a foot on deck, you could feel the first mate’s eyes on your back, like you were the target for something. And after greeting the crew briefly, he made his presence known. He pulled the black bearded man aside, and even through his attempt at whispering you could hear what he said, “so we’re really just letting anyone in nowadays?” Or perhaps he’d done it on purpose so you would hear it too.
You couldn’t hear what the other captain replied to his first mate, but you continued to stare at them both with a confused, slightly displeased look. In your humble opinion, you’d been on the sea for long enough to have gained a good set of skills. And you were damn motivated to prove to him that you weren’t going to be no swab. A hand placed on your shoulder snapped you out of your thoughts. “Ignore him, he’s like that always.” Jim said and with that you started settling in.
Days on the ship passed, and you got accustomed to their way of doing things and by the first months you’d gotten to know the rest of the crew, not just Jim and Olu. Though, as much as you workedand as skilled as you were, Izzy’s mind didn’t seem to budge. It almost felt like he would scowl at you as soon as you weren’t looking. You’d tried talking to him, but each time you tried the reply would be either ‘fuck off’ because he was ‘busy’ or he would come up with tasks for you to do. You could tell he’d been sailing for a long time, and you could tell he was skilled too. But the way he was doing everything in his power to keep you away was odd. Though, you tried to tell yourself that he was softening up to you, thinking he was a little different than at the start.
Swipe by swipe the deck got cleaner, and all the while the action you kept telling yourself you were only doing it because Izzy had told you to. Thankfully that day the wind wasn’t all that cool, though blowing nicely. You straightened your back to stretch, a low groan escaping you at the movement. From the new position you could see an incoming ship. From the looks of it, it was another pirate ship. It didn’t carry the British flag, so it couldn’t have been their navy. Not that they would usually attack pirate ships on sight either way. You didn’t take more time to ponder before running to the captain’s quarters to inform them about the possible incoming attack.
And you’d been correct, it was another pirate ship with a crew willing to fight for some plunder. All the men on the Revenge had been called on deck, each one of them carrying a weapon of their choice. Yours was a sword, the one that’d been your trusty companion for as long as you could remember. You held it firmly, but with ease due to the knowledge in this type of combat.
The deck was busy, like an ant nest. You had a man charging at you with a sword in hand, parrying his attack without much emotion. Their initial attack gave you a chance to cutover, quickly fixing your footwork after. The man was down with a nasty wound on his neck, and that is where you left him. Another of the crew was coming towards, you doing your best to keep a good distance to him. He disengaged, giving you a chance to circle perry the attack and allow you to have more space to continue, which you used to lunge and strike the man to his chest. With a swift motion you pulled the sword back, giving it a quick flourish for showmanship even if no one was looking. Or so you thought.
Izzy had fought himself to a position where he had time to watch you fight off the two men. His brows furrowed while following your footwork and the advanced attacks he rarely saw being used. Some of them he couldn’t even name, having not seen them done before. A sting of jealousy hit him through the amazement, his pride in his own skills being shaken. He hadn’t seen you in action before, having no idea of your past or where you’d learned such a set of skills. The first mate’s grip on his sword tightened, his gaze leaving you after the flourish, continuing his own fight.
After the victorious fight the Revenge kept sailing, days passing the same as before. You were spending the evening with some of the crew, laughter coming from around the table as stories were told along with casual chatter. As the night went on, most of the people around the table started leaving, soon you being the only one left. You drank the last drops of rum from the glass in front of you and pushed the chair back with your legs as you stood up. “Aye.” Came from the stairs as a familiar figure descended from the main deck. Your gaze shot up to him, brows furrowing. “Yes?” Your voice came out a little whiny due to the confusion. The first mate got a little closer, out of the shadows and into the faint light of the few lanterns still lit. “I have something to ask from you.” Slight hesitation in his voice, you noted. You didn’t say anything after, only giving him a nod as a sign to continue. This was already odd enough as it was, Izzy asking for something from you? “Well you know, I saw you fight in the attack earlier.” He started, leaning his hand on the table next to you. “And I think some parts of your tactics were…impressive.” The first mate said with a slight scowl appearing on his face for a moment. A smirk had made its way on yours, amused by the fact that he had finally seen you in action and had to admit his admiration in order to ask of whatever he had to ask. “And I was wondering if you could teach me a few of the attacks you used.” He asked with a slightly pained sigh at the end. The smirk on your face only grew, having to bite it back by chewing on your inner lip.
The man who’d been ‘tormenting’ you from the day you’d joined was asking for you to teach him a few of your attacks, which you’d learned from the years of piracy and studying the ‘art’ of it. You raised your gaze a little, proud of this achievement on the first mate. Hell, you’d barely been able to talk to the man without him shooing you away like some cabin boy. So, your first response would have been to be a little cocky about this, but you quickly decided against it. “I suppose I could teach you a thing or two, yeah.” You ended up saying, tone loose and relaxed. “You free tomorrow morning?” You asked in return, watching his expression tighten like he was disgusted with the suggestion. “Tomorrow night, when I have the lookout shift.” He said, not giving you more reason for the timing he’d chosen. You furrowed your brows with a slight smirk. Was he trying to arrange the meeting in a way no one would see him training with you? Even the thought made you almost laugh, but you kept it to yourself. “Sure.” You nodded, and without any other words the man was gone.
You watched him leave, the smirk you’d been holding back finally freely expressed. You couldn’t believe the interaction you’d just had with him. You’d thought the man was slightly amusing from the start, by the way he was commanding the crew around when they clearly couldn’t care less, yet he continued. But seeing him come to ask you for lessons with his tail between his legs was more than amusing. But maybe you’d finally proven yourself to him, and would start getting along with the man from now on.
The next day passed, the evening dragging the night along. You’d waited until most of the crew was asleep, expecting Izzy to want complete peace. You made your way to the deck just below the main, finding Izzy there along with a few lit candles.
“Evening.” You greeted him, knowing it was well into the night by this point. “You know, we could have met earlier.” You added, gaining a slight eye roll from the man. “Get to the point, or this lesson will be cut short.” The first mate said, seemingly his defences still up. You put your hands up in defence, pouting slightly. “Alright.”
You didn’t expect him to have read anything related to fencing or sword fighting, so there was most likely no point in trying to explain any theory to him. The man must have learned his set of skills by just having to fight, learning from errors he’d made along the way. So you thought you’d show him an attack and if he didn’t know it yet, you’d teach it to him.
Either way, the man was looking at you with an expression that read ‘what now?’ all over it. “How about you show me what you know in action?” You asked, taking your sword out and going into position in front of him. He followed the action, you taking note of the good grip he had of his sword. He didn’t take more time to prepare, using a false thrust to trick you into parrying from the wrong angle before lunging to strike. Or what would have been a good false thrust, if you hadn’t seen it coming. You used a circular perry to deflect it, countering it with a quick flick to his shoulder, making sure not to cause any actual damage. You’d known you couldn’t possibly kick the sword out of his hands due to his strong hold, but the flick had worked nicely enough to get his blade out of your way.
You backed down after, flourishing the sword in your hand before placing the tip of it against the floor and slightly leaning on it. From the looks of it, Izzy had his brows furrowed but not out of confusion. He had seen the attack performed before, yet it was only now that he’d seen it at such close range, getting a better hang of how it was done. “That good for the first lesson?” You asked, an excited smirk on your face. This would have been a good first step. He already had a good grip of his sword, footwork being nearly perfect, yet his timing and distance needed some training to make the flick work. “Suppose so, yeah.” Izzy replied, voice still a little unfriendly, like he didn’t want to admit to the fact that he was actually taking lessons from you .
That night was a long one, possibly the longest one of the meetings you would continue to have from there. But the later it got, the more Izzy seemed like his guard wasn’t up as much. You explained and showed him a good distance from where to make the attack and the spots on the body where it's the most effective if landed correctly. By the end he was performing it nicely, noting that he seemed to be a rather quick learner. You told him this before going your separate ways, oddly enough, looking forward to the next lesson with him.
You didn’t talk to him during the day, finding that he was still acting the same when other people were around. But lesson by lesson he started easing out to you, talking to you like a friend after a few meetings. You didn’t mind, not at all. In fact you’d grown a little fond of him over the lessons, finding the two of you often talking while teaching him an attack he didn’t know yet. You’d learned more about him during those nightly lessons than you thought most of the crew knew.
And as these lessons went on, you found yourself more than keen on the first mate. And at some point you started fearing that maybe he’d seen through you, and your feelings were affecting the way you were teaching him. But trying to push those thoughts aside, you kept giving him the lessons.
But by some point, you could have sworn you had started noticing him opening up to you more and on some rare days he’d even come up to you during the day. He’d of course never admit that during the lessons, but you began to wonder if you should tell him of the crush you’d developed. And after building some courage you decided the best time to tell him would be at some point during the next lesson, when he was the most natural with you.
The weather outside wasn't the best that night. There was a smaller storm happening, but not fully on the ship itself. This caused some of the heavier waves to hit the vessel and sway it from side to side, at times rather roughly. Even your sea legs gave out at times when a heavier wave hit the ship, having to hold on to the nearest wall.
It was safe to say that this lesson would again be held in the lower deck, below the main. The main deck had more space to practise attacks involving long distance movement, but it was no use going there tonight. At best, one of you would fall overboard.
You descended from the stairs, finding Izzy already stationed where he usually waited for you. “Took you so long, I almost thought you’d fallen overboard”,the man commented while pressing his food against the nearest wall as the ship swayed yet again, in order to keep balance. You raised your eyebrows for a moment, giving him a light shrug. He was struggling as well. “Whatever you say.” You hummed while taking out your sword, leaning it against the wooden flooring as per usual. He was waiting for you to start the lesson. “I thought we’d have a duel tonight. See if you’re any good.” You chuckled silently, the man giving you a low huff with a ‘fuck off’ somewhere in the mix. Though, it seemed he had agreed to the idea as he was taking out his sword, going into position. You followed after.
Izzy moved fast, quickly lunging at you which you were able to deflect with a parry, having to take a few steps back as he was moving rather fast. “You’re wasting your energy.” You hummed, taking a tighter grip of your sword. You would try to use a flèche to end the duel, but you needed some space before doing that. He knew the move by now, but you wanted to try if he’d be able to parry or block it.
After gaining enough distance, you got ready. Izzy shrugged at you, eyes keenly on your form. “Maybe, or maybe I almost just got you.” He replied. You rolled your eyes, not out of annoyance but more out of habit. He was preparing to lunge, or maybe trying to fake it to trick you. Either way, you took a longer jump forward, circling his sword to the side and aiming for the area around his shoulder, a successful flèche. Or would have been, if the ship didn’t sway at the exact same time.
Due to your lunge just now, you didn’t have a proper stance to hold your ground. This caused you to lunge further than intended, and with the added force of the swaying you crashed onto Izzy. You heard the swords clash onto the floor, you feeling the nearest wall hit your head as you landed on Izzy, bringing him down with you.
You groaned, slowly opening your eyes again. The spot on your head that had hit the wall ached, but you dragged your torso up by lifting with your arms. “You alright?” Came from under you, making your eyes widen. You couldn’t even think of the pain from the hit, embarrassed for tripping him over as well. “I’m- fine! Because I won, obviously.” You tried to ease your own panic by talking, scrambling off of him and back on your feet.
You watched the first mate get up after you. “We can continue later. I don’t want to duel you like this, not fighting dirty.” Izzy then said, not wanting to argue over your wellbeing, but eyes still keenly on you as you tried collecting yourself. “Then let’s take a break, I can still continue.” You said, holding onto the table behind you. He didn’t say anything to that, not giving you a sign if he’d agreed to it or not. By the sound of it, he’d kneeled down to pick up the swords.
He walked up to you, handing your sword back. “You don’t look fine.” He said, eyes looking for signs of damage. “Rude”, you almost chuckled, biting your inner lip to fight it back. “What?” He asked almost immediately after. “You don’t think I’m fine?” You asked, having to bite your inner lip with more force after. This hadn’t been how you imagined this going, but it wasn’t going to get much better. Izzy’s eyes widened at the comment, but catching up to what you were doing rather quickly. “I didn’t say that.” He squinted his eyes slightly. “Then do you?” The first mate looked to the side for a moment thinking about the question. “And you would like to know because?” He asked, voice a little awkward now that the moment truly started settling in. You furrowed your brows, not sure if the tone in his voice was a good or a bad thing. “Because I do think that way of you.” You blurted out, the air becoming tense. His eyes were on you once more, but more cautious this time. “Are you tricking me?” He asked carefully, as if that had been a mandatory question to ask before saying whatever he wanted to say next. The chuckle from earlier came out as an amused huff, trying to lift up the mood. “Of course not. What kind of a tutor would I be if I’d take up lying.” His eyes met yours once more. The jokes weren’t working, he was truly getting a little more emotional than usual. “I do…have love for you.” He said, hand careful as it placed itself on top of yours, on the table. As if he was scared you’d pull away.
You had to hold back a smile, afraid that would scare him off. “I don’t think you understand how relieved I am to hear that.” You said, saying whatever came to mind, as finding any thought out words were getting difficult to find. “I feel the same.” You added, just to make it all the more clear to him.
You watched the man carefully move his hand from yours to your forearm, slightly frozen in place, as if he didn’t know what to do next. He looked lost somewhere in his own mind. You swallowed hard, swiftly placing your hand at the nape of his neck, bringing him in for a kiss, to which he responded to. You didn’t pull away, a sly smirk forming on your face.
You’d tried your best to keep it hidden, but it was no use anymore. You switched positions, pushing him gently against the nearest wall, raising your sword up to his chest as you pulled away from the kiss. “I still won.” You smiled.

“Is it really that unusual?” You questioned while you slowly walked back to your hotel with Mihawk by your side. You weren’t exactly sure how you ended up walking back with him as company but he had mentioned something about the pirates wanting retribution for you stabbing one of their men. Well, no one had attacked you but you sure had some angry men glaring at you as you ignorantly walked away from the tavern lost in your own thoughts.
“Yes,” Mihawk replied, eyeing your scrunched face. He’d notice that you did that when you were thinking hard about something or confused. There were a great many nuances he’d noticed while sitting in your presence, like the way you controlled your facial expressions but not the emotions within your eyes. Or how your eyes sparkled like polished amethyst when you began talking animatedly about an experience you had. Such an unusual woman. Event the most menial of life events seemed to be incredible to you. To live.
“Hmm, but— surely there are others like me who haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing things like going to a market, or picking out your first blade, or even being on a boat.”
“I fear that you are an enigma, Vee,” Mihawk said, further eyeing your confused face. “And I think I would like solve you.”
“How do you do that when not even I can figure that out?” You questioned, toeing a rock out of your way.
“I have my ways,” You snorted at his words and tone, he was so sure of himself. You actually kind of liked that.
“Tell me when you figure me out, then.” You stated wryly before smirking. “I’d sure like to know why I’ve never been kissed before.” A small giggle poured from your lips and you snuck him a glance. “Of course you’re welcome to change that if you wish, but I digress…”
You continued walking as Mihawk came to a standstill, shocked by your candid words. Did you reallynot know who he was?? You’d been offhandedly flirting with him in such a teasing manner since he’d bought you that glass of wine so clearly you had no idea he was a Warlord or a pirate. You weren’t bothered by the massive sword on his back and you’d already called his eyes beautiful. Enigma indeed. There was an air of innocence caused by your lack of life experiences, but behind your violet eyes was a sophisticated well read woman that knew exactly what she was doing. An incredible combination that piqued Mihawk’s attention in more ways than one.
You had made it only a few paces forwards by the time Mihawk started walking once more. His long legs carried his tall frame to you in seconds and with nothing but a light touch upon your wrist he had you spinning around and pressed up against the wall of a nearby building. Your breath caught in your throat when his face was in yours, your noses touching and the rim of his hat sheltering both your faces from the light of the moon. For a moment you wondered if your words had bothered him. So you parted your lips to tell him that he wasn’t inclined to just because you had said so, but the man had already made up his mind.
Taking your chin in hand, Mihawk pulled it up just enough so that your lips brushed and proceeded to swallow the words you were about to speak. You were caught off guard the moment lips met yours and didn’t know what to do, but that didn’t matter because Mihawk was more than happy to be the one in charge. He expected it to be that way. Pushing his lips against yours, Mihawk urged your lips apart further and swept into your mouth with a seductive tongue. You flushed with a tremble, one hand grappling the wall of the building while the other twitched in his grasp.
Your lips were kissed with the gentleness of the sun just barely touching the horizon of a new day, and tongue drawn into a swirling dance. The surprise within you waned and for a few precious moments you found yourself clumsily kissing back. But those precious seconds were all that you had to experience that gentle kiss for the Warlord was soon turning possessive with your lips, ravaging them with a hunger that you couldn’t quite place but were more than welcome to sate.
There was a sting in your bottom lip and your lips parted wider as you softly moaned. Mihawk nipped at your lip again, finding the noise you made sweet and beautiful, and welcoming more from his lips and tongue. He kissed you deeper now, ensuring to imprint the memory of having one of your firsts. Not just anyone could’ve that honor. Mihawk had every intention of pirating a kiss from your lips that you would never forget.
At this rate you wouldn’t be able to get it out of your mind for weeks.
You’d had the misfortune of wandering into a red light district early on in your travels, so you had seen many explicit things that had made your cheeks flush with embarrassment then. Luckily a few sex workers had hustled your naive person off the streets and into their personal living quarters to ensure that you wouldn’t be taken advantage of. You’d gotten the lecture of the birds and the bees, and had witnessed many sexual actions on accident. But not a kiss like this.
With possession build upon a gentleness that made you truly enjoy kissing someone for the first time. You certainly liked the heat you could keep from his body and especially enjoyed the way his neatly trimmed facial hair scraped your cheeks. Even the grasp upon your wrist was migrating to your palm, pressing into your flesh and pulling your body further against Mihawk’s. You sighed against his warm lips and your eyelashes fluttered. To kiss someone was really quite nice. You were beginning to feel lightheaded and your chest was hurting when your lips finally broke apart.
You stared at Mihawk with wide eyed and labored breaths for several seconds, reveling in his beautiful yellow gaze. How could it be that the intimacy you’d gone your entire life not knowing its comforting and bedeviled touch, was something so sweet and warming you felt like you would wither without?
“Well that’s one unknown down,” You murmured to yourself, your eyebrows scrunching slightly. Mihawk’s own rose at your comment. “Thank you, that is a curiosity that I no longer have to wonder about.”
“I think I am beginning to think you are not nearly as complex as you think yourself to be,” Mihawk spoke, observing your flushed face and swelled lips. Ah to taste them whenever he wished so would be a dream. You scoffed at his words and rolled your eyes.
“I am not that simple,” You argued back, nose scrunching. “And I doubt that you can figure me out just by kissing me. It’s a technicality, that doesn’t count as there are many other things my body hasn’t experienced before. You can’t solve a puzzle with only one piece,” You boldly stated before slipping free from his grasp and continuing your way to your hotel room. It wasn’t far, perhaps a few more doors down. A thought popped into your head. “Of course you’re also welcome to change that,” You called with a laugh, digging the hotel key out of your pocket. You had the door to your room halfway open when you got your answer.
Mihawk, tempted by your complete and utter mysteriousness and intrigue, hadn’t taken long to consider your words. He’d already indulged himself in your lips, why not the rest of you? He was a possessive man and liked the idea of having yet another one of your firsts. So following in your footsteps, he easily caught up to you and placed it hand upon your waist. In one smooth push he had you spinning around while stepping into your hotel room and shutting the door behind him. When your world stopped moving, your back was pressed the door. Mihawk was standing in front of you, eyes staring intently into yours.
“Very well little one,” The seductive drawl of the man made a shiver run up your spine and in the back of your mind, a flickering thought resonated: perhaps you had finally gotten yourself into something you might not be able to handle.
Tumblr media
Mihawk had gotten you down onto your knees, looking up at him with the most innocent yet devilish eyes he’d ever seen. How could one so untouched look as impish as you? He desired that innocence and planned on ruining it with his own twisted pleasure. He was a decidedly selfish man that liked to live his life the way he saw fit and dining upon such untouched flesh would be an absolute delicacy. But first he wanted to see what that mouth of yours could do for after he had partaken in your lips, they were swelled and further inviting.
Your fingers traced the dip along his pants as you admired the tone of his muscles. Clearly he spent a great time tending to his physical condition. A lingering thought of wanting to trace each line with your finger overtook your conscious. Would the rest of his body look just as refined and cared for? Long fingers lifted your gaze to that of Mihawk, who had his eyebrow raised.
“Distracted already, little bird?” Your cheeks warmed and your lashes fluttered.
“You have very nice muscles,” You blurted out. “And since when am I not allowed to appreciate that?”Amusement flickered through Mihawk’s eyes.
“Since I gave you an order,” The look on his face made a shiver run down your spine, but not a bad one. Your fingers deftly unraveled the belt buckle at his waist and when your fingers brushed finely trimmed hair your body finally caught up to the situation you were in. Heat boiled beneath your skin as Mihawk dragged his fingers along your cheek, ultimately sliding them into your hair. “Your mouth is sharp and quick witted, let’s see if it has any other uses. Pleasure me with it.”
You obediently did as he asked, your fingers pulled his pants down until fingertips brushed neatly trimmed hair. You didn’t pause nor did your eyes stray from his as you stroked warm taut skin. In all honesty, you might have stumbled upon intimate actions on Gliss Island, but you still felt naive and unsure of your actions. That, however, didn’t stop you from lowering your gaze to Mihawk’s cock and gently taking it in hand. You copied the actions of the woman and men you’d seen doing (because you’d been skirted off to a private room by some very concerned sex workers) and felt the fingers in your hair curl.
It was apparent that he was waiting for your mouth, but your hand was soft and touch silken light… and you were clearly fascinated by what your own actions caused. Mihawk drew his thumb along the curve of your jaw while you continued to stroke him, marveling at how his cock reacted to your simple touch. It was rather addicting to have such control. On impulse you leaned down and pressed your lips against the side of the head. A soft sigh departed Mihawk’s lips from the beautiful warmth of your lips and bunched more of your hair within his grasp.
Your lips tantalized the swordsman, running up and down his length with the occasional dart of tongue. You may be inexperienced in many a thing, but you were a rather quick learner with a devilish tongue. Clumsy your tongue may be, but its touch and heat was more than enough to give Mihawk the pleasure he sought. Then you parted your lips and tentatively bobbed your mouth over the tip. This time a beautiful moan slipped passed the man’s lips and you found that you liked that sound very much. So the next time you pushed your head down further, trying to relax your throat from Mihawk’s impressive girth.
“It seems you are a woman of many talents little bird,” Mihawk drew out, fingers clenching around midnight strands and tugging them. The sounds coming from your mouth made your cheeks flush, for it sounded lewd and rather wet. But you didn’t even have the time to take in that when on the next bomb of your head he pushed your head down until you fully took him down your throat. You choked and gagged, your free hand landing on Mihawk’s thigh when your eyes watered. For a moment you thought to pull back and glare, but the sweet and deep moan that graced your ears was hypnotizing.
Well, you did glance up but not to glare. The moment your amethyst eyes caught sight of the exquisite look upon his face. Mihawk’s pretty eyes were gone from view, but his head was tilted back in and the picture of ecstasy was painted ever so beautifully across his features. Pleasure was a stunning experience you were definitely adding to your collection of firsts. Sucking a little harder, the grip on your hair became painful and his hips began bucking up, pushing his cock to the back of your throat every time your head bobbed.
Your mouth was an intense warmth and source of pleasure that toppled Mihawk over the cusp of organ and it washed through his body in an electric twist. A surge of heat flooded your own throat and you almost choked on it as his seed poured down your throat. Not knowing what else to do, you swallowed, feeling that burn carry over to your belly and remain.  You were more than just lightheaded now, now your body throbbed in need and you tumbled backwards.
Falling back onto your rump, Mihawk’s cock slipped from your lips and you heaved in heavy breaths. Your face was flushed and blistered with heat. Your eyes were round and shimmering. And your mind was spinning in circles like a hurricane. Pleasure was so delicious to give. But what did it feel like to receive? Mihawk’s own glimmering gaze was fixated on you with such intensity that you knew you wouldn’t not be leaving this room without finding out. You were an innocent indulgence that he was going to have all to himself for the night, and that pleased him greatly.

𝐒𝐈𝐑𝐄𝐍!𝐒𝐀𝐌 ! 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐒!
siren!sam collins x pirate!darlin’
a/n: the chokehold any kind of au that involves mermaids or sirens has on me is strong
Tumblr media
SIREN!SAM ! who use to be apart of the merfolk before getting turned into a siren when he almost died due to a boating incident
SIREN!SAM ! who found darlin’ floating on a small piece of driftwood in the middle of the ocean and his old instincts over powered his new ones, dragging them to dry land
“w-why did you help me?” they shivered, attempting to start a fire to provide a source of warmth and maybe help them dry off faster.
“wasn’t hungry” he states simply.
“bull” darlin’ grumbles, moving as close to the fire as possible. there is no reason for a siren to save a helpless human that isn’t strong enough to even put up a fight.
SIREN!SAM ! who pretends his heart didn’t just start racing as the person he saved sasses him
SIREN!SAM ! who ends up trying to help this, seemingly very stubborn human that is very attractive if he was being honest with himself
“so how’d you end up in the middle of the ocean alone?”
“siren lured me in, i was supposed to die but he just ended up toying with me before leaving”
darlin’ unconditionally flinches when he tries to place a webbed hand on their knee in an attempt to provide some comfort, he quickly retracts his hand before speaking again
“i’ll help you find your family or uh crew”
SIREN!SAM ! who helps build a small raft that darlin’ can sit on while he tows it through the water, using the stars as a map to find the ship that seemly hasn’t moved and is surrounded by merfolk
SIREN!SAM ! who tries to hide behind the small raft before the merfolk spot him.
“why are you hiding? i won’t let them hurt you”
SIREN!SAM ! who melts at their soft words that mean a lot more than darlin’ realizes.

*holding out my hands completely unbidden and unprompted*
Hey I heard y’all got ocs in here? Ocs hello?? Hot ocs in my area????
hi im gonna pretend i didnt get this asked to me by somebody else before i clicked a wrong button and tumblr erased the whole post. taking this unbiased opportunity to jump into these characters.
i have had these ocs for upwards of 7 or 8 years, who went untouched for a VERY long time before getting picked back up and refurbished as of about 2 years ago. it is with MUCH pride i tell you that they intertwine very deeply with a friend's own ocs (YOU!! WHO SENT THIS!!) and they've helped me build up these characters into something i'm incredibly proud of and ought to share by now
without further adieu: some pirates, some 19th century fantasy (a LOT of fucking fantasy), and like 8 years worth of worldbuilding that i am STILL not done with. enjoy
FIRST of all let me show you who we're working with:
Tumblr media
Who the hell is that?
Leo Blackwater (he/him) - 56 yrs, 5'6'', 152 lbs
Tumblr media
Captain of the ship The Eclipse.
Widower of 19 years. only recently decided to open his heart back up; she wanted him to be happy, after all. She's a sensitive topic, even now. so any prodding or teasing on the matter of moving on will be met violently.
Bounty hunter. Smuggler. Doing pirate things, you see. Polite old dad, a warm personality to lure you into a false sense of security and turn you in for a pretty penny.
Disabled after a beam cracked and landed on his knee, breaking it. It never healed right, and hes slower for it, especially in old age. Despite this handicap making him more vulnerable, he does not carry much in the way of weapons.
Eldest of 6 siblings. Son of a humble small town fisherman; perhaps not all that glad for his son's criminality, but the money he sends home makes it forgiven.
Father of one, a daughter, captain of her own ship.
Formed his love for the sea at 18 on his father's fishing boat. Never much respect for the Navy proper. But, after being in the right place at the right time and earning the reward money for a highly wanted pirate, he started to get ideas...
Percius (Percy) Blackwater (they/them) - 48 yrs, 5'10'', 150 lbs
Tumblr media
Younger sibling of Leo. 3rd child of 6.
Takes up a number of jobs on Eclipse. Took up the role of second in command after the passing of Mrs. Blackwater.
Respects and trusts their brother's choice in livelihood. Begged since they were young to let them sail with him. Didn't realize what it entailed until they were already aboard.
Unmarried. They're a bit busy right now.
Willing to be called uncle by their beloved niece, for lack of a better word.
Betelgeuse Blackwater (she/her) - 30 yrs, 6'5'', 240 lbs
Tumblr media
Captain of The Starlight, all-female crew.
Bounty hunter. Smuggler. Learned her way of living from her parents.
Inherited her face and density from her father, nothing else. Prone to brute force rather than wit and cunning. This works for her just fine.
Quite awkward, if she likes you.
Eldest (and favorite) grandchild, an only child, a totally different woman if you see her around family. Towers over father, but makes herself small for a kiss hello.
Was only about 7 or 8 when her mother passed. She remembers what little she has of her fondly, and greets her kindly when she looks in a mirror.
So whats going on?
What a funny question!!! I got no clue. But I'll start by explaining a little worldbuilding lore (cringe explination incoming):
There is magic in this universe. Not one that's denied or marveled at, but exists as much as everything else you dont pay attention to around you. Its as real as gravity. It's a honed skill in some, frowned upon by others, used unwisely by a small (but not unheard of) few. Magic makes itself present in a number of ways; it's hard to find written rules of these things unless you know precisely what you want and what you believe in. In many areas, some small towns appear to be protected by nameless elements and energies. It's more often that you find individuals who put in the work to harness their beliefs into something tangible, all calling their faiths and abilities something different from each other. Again, its not unheard of for individuals to use these abilities for their own poor intentions. If someone like Leo is lucky, bagging a Magic user is worth every ounce of hassle it takes. He seems to get away with feats like this often, though port authority fears him enough not to ask how. The Blackwaters won't admit foul play, though, if you're in the right town listening to the right gossip, you might hear a rumor or two about Betelgeuse's warm touch and a spitfire attitude when shes angry.
So whats up with Leo?
hehehehe.
As aforementioned, Leo has recently made himself a bachelor. He has no shortage of acquaintances and colleagues in his line of business. His demeanor, if you trust it, is very welcoming to new colleagues. He's not looking for something to jump too quickly into, he's happy to take things slow as he navigates romance again after so long.
And then he captures Roark.
Roark Renshaw (he/him) - 68 yrs, 6'6'', 250 lbs (CREATION OF @skelelephant)
Tumblr media
World's worst man.
Captain of The Red Hound, took this position by force at the age of 21. The crew that remained after his mutiny had naught the will to defy him, choosing to follow out of curiosity more than anything else afterward.
Professional menace. High-seas whore. Good old fashioned murderer, committer of pirate crimes as you'd imagine. Terribly smug about it.
Unknown origin, unknown motive. He cropped up out of thin air and has made himself a name to be feared ever since, doing a service to the red flag The Hound flies.
For all his force, he is not one easily captured. For all his reputation, he is reckless. He caught Leo at a bad time, unfortunately.
Roark is a household name among most port towns, wanted dead or alive for the better half of his life by the Navy. His nature is not unlike that of a rabid dog, compared often to his ship's namesake. It is a state of being that none have been able to tame him out of, not by any rotating carousel of lovers he finds among port towns or the enemies he finds in equal amount, and one that gives the bounty over his head a lot of zeros. One that Leo, for all his skill, saw as a pipe dream. Leo knew of him, certainly. Roark has been on his radar since before his wife's passing- they'd spoken of capturing him fondly, joked about like some impossible fantasy. But for all his reputation comes bad habits that lower his guard when he needs it most. Stumbling drunkenly out of a tavern one evening, docked unknowingly at the same port as The Eclipse, he is disarmed and captured before he knows it.
This is a victory unheard of. It seems only fitting that Leo Blackwater would bag him, Roark having not expected to meet his match in such a mild man. Before the crew of The Hound have enough notice, Eclipse sails off to deposit the dog that is Roark Renshaw to the navy for a glorious execution, and an even more glorious reward. Leo has the gall to boast this to his prisoner, who seems almost humored. Hes quite charming when hes disarmed, a feature of his that seeps into the cracks of Leo's resolve and that itch the loneliness that he had yet to satisfy. Hes dangerous even with his hands tied.
This is what solidifies Leo's decision to turn him in. A man who so loved to be chased and so loved the rotten attention he recieved, who needed to be put down. It was a thrill, though, to capture the hound himself and be one of few to ever do so. To be revered as Roarks captor would make one want to do it all over again.
By luck or by the hunger for chase that gnawed on Roark and Leo's ribs, Roark finds the moment to escape as hes being escorted off the ship. Leo, notably, makes a piss poor attempt at catching him.
Seen as a dire fluke from the outside, the captains know it was on purpose. They've found themselves amidst a game of cat and mouse, that gives them a small purpose for at least a little while. You bond very closely when trying to kill each other, you know!
So what's their deal?
Well, their deal is that they *make* a deal.
Though Roark might be a big fish in their career pond, he is not the only one. Eventually, always eventually, there is another to challenge Roark's reputation. He wants the pirate out of his way, and Leo could always use another bounty. But hes slippery... moreso than Roark, who lets himself into Leo's jaws on purpose.
So... an alliance is formed. Temporary, of course, they split this bounty and part ways. So they say. But Roark is a charming man, and fulfills the loneliness and search for companionship that Leo wanted... and Leo is collected and steady, more than the majority of Roark's colleagues. They stand out to each other. They're comfortable. Attached.
So... after the bounty is collected they choose not to end their truce. Spend more time together. Work together exceptionally well. Balance each other out, in a way.
So they're together?
GAY AS CAN BE, BABY.
Tumblr media
probably the only existing drawing of them Together despite how much we both draw them seperately.
Their alliance spills over into something... fond. Affectionate, even. A few meetups at a port town turn into a lot more working together peacefully. This leads to some... interesting wires to cross between their own respective enemies, interesting wires between one another. They get to know each other very personally in some strenuous circumstances.
Anyways! Now that they're on the table, I feel a little more comfortable to talk about them more. Draw them more. Answer some questions, if anybody has any. I did leave a lot open-ended...

Consider this your opportunity to be an Astrology Bitch and go off about Leo Stede!
(signed, a Virgo sun, Cancer moon, Capricorn rising who simultaneously is and is not an Astrology Bitch, more of a Tarot Bitch tbh)
Okay! You asked for it lol.
I should start by saying that I'm an August Leo sun. Stede is a July Leo, as confirmed by the show:
Tumblr media
July Leos are...different somehow? It's not a bad thing and it's not their fault, and if anybody else comes for them we August Leo's will throw down for our siblings, but there's something about the vibes! Maybe it's the Cancer proximity, idk. If anything my anecdata suggests that they're more well adjusted than the rest of us. 🦁❤️🦁
Anyway, I immediately sat up and noticed when they cut to the gravestones because it's second nature for me as an Astrology Gay. Obviously I didn't know Stede at the time and I don't actually know what went down as the character was developed, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if I learned that at least one person in the writers room was a fellow Astrology Gay.
So I completely forgot about his birthdate because a) ADHD and b) swooniest romance I'd ever seen, but I started thinking about it again when I showed up like a year late to the fandom and saw people talk about whether they were Ed coded or Stede coded. I am heavily, heavily Stede coded for neurodivergent reasons, but he also exhibits certain Very Leo traits that I recognized immediately.
Tumblr media
Leo stereotypes:
Let's get the stereotypes out of the way because while they do apply sometimes (especially for Stede), there's no need to rehash them in detail.
Leadership, which he struggles with at first but a) takes up the mantle of it anyway and b) improves enough that by the end of the season the crew that wanted to mutiny saves his life.
Good hair. Nuff said.
The man has an auxiliary wardrobe for fucks sake.
His "theatrical instincts are finely honed" and while Izzy says it to encourage the fuckery, it's not a lie.
Tumblr media
The Revenge
If an 18th century Leo was going to custom build a pirate ship and money was no object, they would 1000% build the Revenge. I could see arguing that a Taurus might build something similar, but honestly I'm not sure a Taurus would become a pirate by choice. Maybe a Taurus might build like, a pleasure yacht or something. A Libra might build a ship that's as good-looking as the Revenge but sharing expensive tastes isn't enough to convince me either. Stede's money allowed him to build and decorate luxuriously, but plenty of rich people used to comfort didn't have ships like the Revenge. As Nigel says during his tour, it's just so incredibly him.
Tumblr media
Now for some feelings stuff:
Leos love it when other people are happy, and when we can be involved in fostering that at all for people we care about we are ON IT. Stede wants to create space for others to get what they need to make that happen. Literally in the first episode he talks about the Revenge as somewhere for his crew to work on their trauma and communicate their feelings.
Tumblr media
The above is also an extension of Stede's instinctive generosity. Canon doesn't tell us where Ed got his clothes for the French boat party in episode 5, but given that Stede has an auxiliary wardrobe (which he shared with Ed almost immediately) the most likely scenario seems like he loaned (or maybe even gave!) it to Ed. Another possibility is that it was on the ship where Frenchie found his and Oluwande's outfits, but the purple jacket in particular seems very extra in a way that says "Stede" to me.
Tumblr media
Speaking of episode 5, let's talk about the party game. Obviously the main takeaway is that Stede has enough of a handle on passive aggression to make the French assholes tear each other apart, but it's not just the passive aggression, it's in the delivery. With sufficient motivation (Ed's hurt feelings, if not his own) we see Stede command the room with confidence. He chooses his targets well. He knows just what to say to get them to agree to play the game at all. The fire wasn't part of the original plan but it shows just how powerful those hard-won skills are when he wants to apply them. (This doesn't feel like it merits its own bullet point but Leos are protective, ride-or-die friends, something else we see in this episode.)
Tumblr media
Stede's love language, imo, is quality time. There are arguments for others (there's also a really good meta about his love language causing miscommunication with our touchy-feely boy Ed, if I can find the link I'll edit) but quality time seems the most appropriate to me. Another part of the whole generosity of spirit thing is that he seems to enjoy what a friend of mine called "engineering experiences" for people i.e. crafting activities and jam sessions for the crew. The most obvious of these is the treasure hunt for Ed, which of course comes out of his fear of Ed leaving, but it's also a way for them to spend time together. I'm not at all surprised that a lonely, bullied kid would grow up to value quality time.
Tumblr media
I would also extend this to the clearly routine (but still extravagant) breakfast for two that we see Calico Jack crashing in episode 8. Not to mention the first breakfast he and Ed ever share up on the maintop in episode 4. It's not fancy, but he wakes Ed up to share in that moment because he's enjoying the sunrise and the marmalade, and I can't think of anything more Leo than enjoying something then immediately wanting to share it because someone else might enjoy it too.
Tumblr media
Stede's not perfect of course, despite all those seemingly positive things I just said. In the way of some Leos he is frequently thoughtless, up to and including when he didn't make to the dock. I can't speak for every Leo but I have definitely accidentally flirted with/been read as flirting with people before, whether I was attracted to them or not. And yeah his quarters are nice but he could have used some of that space for more crew quarters, right? And how could a Leo possibly misread "what makes Ed happy is you" as badly as he did?
Well I may be an Astrology Binch but I mostly like it (and anything else that puts personalities into discrete groups) as an analysis tool. It's just a fun lens to examine behaviors through, IRL and with fictional characters. Also, the show is clearly trying to examine things like trauma and self-loathing in ways that are gonna inform character behavior way more than a hypothetical astrology enthusiast in the (admittedly pretty queer) writers room. But the vibes? The vibes are so there.

Note
Today I heard someone say they were going to be Zorro for Halloween and I went on an extended rant about the 1998 fictional hero before they stopped me and said “he’s from One Piece.” feeling embarrassed and I will now be paying more attention to your One Piece posts to hopefully avoid this issue in the future.
I got you, bestie!  Here is a Zoro primer just for you!
Zoro was the first person to join Luffy's pirate crew.  (Luffy is a huge goober, but he's going to be King of the Pirates. He kinda sucks people onto his crew by being excited about their deals.) Zoro's the first mate and the strongest fighter after Luffy.
-Three Sword Style.  Zoro carries three katanas.  He defaults to using two kanatas, one in each hand.  This is called "Two Sword Style."  But if he has a difficult opponent, he will take the bandana he wears around his arm and put it on his head (so you know he means business) and pull out the third sword.  This sword he puts in his mouth.  This is called "Three Sword Style."  It is so stupid and so cool at the same time.
Tumblr media
(sannuiz)
-Bad ass.  Despite how dumb this is, Zoro will do things and I'll go "Awwwww Yeaaaahhhhhhh!"  One time he one-punched a boat. One time he killed 100 bounty hunters at once.  Dude learned to cut through iron, and then he cut a train in half.  One time he was fighting an octopus who was doing "Six Sword Style," and Zoro did this flying spin thing, landed on the other side, and goes, "Three Sword Style,"  and I went YEAHHHH!  Here is the live action moment, when Zoro takes a drink mid-battle and then throws it at a dude.
During the later half of a story arc, the crew will split up with each person fighting a bad guy or fighting in small groups, and the narrative will bounce around between them.  They'll all start to lose at the same time, and they'll all turn it around and start to win at the same time.  Usually the person with the easiest and silliest battle will turn it around first, so the bad guys are defeated in order of how difficult they are.  This means Zoro always gets the penultimate battle.  He'll have a huge take town of some baddie, and then it'll be like "Woooo!  Only the boss is left!  It's all in Luffy's hands now!" And people will be very confused and wonder why Zoro is Luffy's lacky.
-Dumbass.  Do not be fooled.  This man is a dumbass.  He has big himbo energy.  One time they told him to go North, so went Up and climbed a building and then gloated about how he had climbed higher up the building than anyone else who had accidentally climbed the building. That time he cut that ship in half, he did that because he had accidentally gotten on the wrong ship. In the live action, he tries to sit down in a booth at a restaurant, but he's wearing his three swords and can't sit down and has to go around to the other side to sit on the edge.
Tumblr media
-Unbothered king.  Zoro has this cool dude aloofness, like he's a man of few words and doesn't engage in anyone's drama.  This makes it sound like he's too cool.  But it's a fun character trait because it gets pushed really far.  Things happen to Zoro, and he rolls with it.  This means that any of Luffy's dumb ideas, Zoro makes them work.  This means if Chopper (the tiny adorable reindeer) wants to sleep on him all day, Zoro's going to carry around a sleeping reindeer all day.  If some stranger wants to poke his face to make it look like he's smiling, then he's just gonna stand there and get poked in the face.  In the live action, it comes off as that Zoro is quietly entertained by all the nonsense happening around him, and he'll allow it because it's funny, and if things go wrong he can just kill everyone and they can leave.
Tumblr media
(Zoro with an octopus that has attached itself to him)
-His main job seems to be Luffy Duty.  This is not making sure Luffy doesn't do dumb stuff.  Instead, it's more tempering what Luffy does and rolling with it when Luffy pulls some shit.
Tumblr media
It's a common thing that the whole crew (except for Luffy) think they're the adult in the room, and (except for Robin) they're all wrong.  So Zoro will say something and his aloofness and seriousness will make it sound like it's rational and everyone will be like, "Yeah okay, that makes sen--WAIT  WHAT?" So it's also Zoro's job to agree with Luffy and therefore get the rest of the crew onboard (because when he says things in his serious way, it tricks people into thinking the plan makes sense).
Tumblr media
(burquillos)
Tumblr media
-Dream/Tragic Backstory.  When Zoro was a kid, he lived at this katana dojo, and he could handily kick everyone's ass except this one girl who defeated him 2,000 times in a row.  This made Zoro very angry, so he challenged her to a duel with real sword.  She kicked his ass then too, again making Zoro very angry.  Then she said, "You need to quit being mad about this.  In a few years when we both go through puberty, you're going to stronger and taller than me, and I won't be able to beat you.  A girl can beat a boy, but a woman can't beat a man.  Suck it up and wait two years."  Well, Zoro has no time for internalized misogyny and (again) gets mad about this.  She needs to do a better job believing in herself, and he makes an oath that they're going to train together and get stronger together and one day one of them will be the Greatest Swordsman in the World.  BFF!  The live action makes it seem like some time passes here during which they are besties.  The manga is very specific that that night she falls down the stairs and dies.  But Zoro's not going to go back on his oath!  He takes up her sword (sword #3), and is going to be the World's Greatest Swordsman for her.
And just, the speed and devotion and certainty that he throws into his decisions is on display here.  Like he knows Luffy for a few days and is like, "I'm going to quit my job and follow you to the ends of the earth and help you become King of the Pirates and be your first mate," and then he does.  Man does not fuck around.
-Extra random character traits.  He sleeps a lot.  He drinks a lot.  He gets lost a lot, but explains it as other people getting lost or hallways moving.  This means he will often show up in places where he can be helpful, when there's really no reason that he should be there.

i'm getting tired (even for a phoenix)
“I’m still standing because of you,” Jay insisted, getting off of the edge of the bed to seemingly prove his point, “I made it because of you.”
Nya nodded, the guilt still building in her chest as she wiped the tears off of her cheeks, “I want to kill him.”
Prequel to "i'll hold my breath a little bit longer"
Nya traced over the white and red, jagged marks with her thumb as the monitors beeped in her ear telling her “he’s alive”.
Being a ninja was dangerous, all of them knew that. She had taken part in the lessons about field medicine when Master Wu was giving them to the other four ninja, even though it was on her insistence after telling him that she was Samurai X.
And it wasn’t like none of them had ever been in the hospital because of it; she had been in a similar situation with Lloyd less than six months ago, after unlocking her true potential.
But this was different. When Lloyd had been in the hospital, she felt safe and she felt relieved. Morro couldn’t hurt her little brother ever again, Ninjago was safe, and she had found out what was holding her back from unlocking her powers.
The clinic attached to the police precinct was for less extensive injuries then this, but Ninjago City General was apart of Nadakhan’s twisted copy of Dijinjago, so when they arrived on the shore and Jay started coughing up blood before passing out in her arms, this was their only option.
She hadn’t escaped unscathed, but the bruising on her arms from the pirates holding her back from the others and the cut on her forehead from hitting it on the deck as a result of Cole’s wish was nothing compared to everything they had found on Jay’s unconscious body.
There were the injuries Nya could see, like the cut on his left eyelid that had forced the eye to swell shut, the lichtenberg figures on his hands from the powers being too strong within the confines of Vengestone, the bright red circle that encased his ankle thanks to the ball and chain and the split lips from the altitude although she suspected that the swelling had come from the same place as his injured eye.
But she also knew that his ribs were broken to the point that one of them had punctured his left lung, that he had a concussion, that he was so weak that he could hardly walk when Cole had found him and that there was very few spots on his pale skin that were not adorned in some sort of gash or bruise.
It made her wonder just how much enjoyment the crew of Misfortune’s Keep had gotten out of watching someone so light-hearted get beat down over and over again in an attempt to make him break.
Thinking about it nearly made her vomit.
“I know you can’t hear me, but I promise you,” she stopped to bring her hand to his freckled cheek, “we are going to get out of this alive.”
They had been at sea for hours.
All they had to their name was a duffle bag of necessities that Jay had grabbed, a duffle bag of medical supplies that the exhausted registered nurse had handed her, the row boat they were traveling in and Jay’s mix of both chivalry and stubbornness as he continue to pull them toward where they would be staying until they could figure out how Jay was meant to word his last wish.
And Nya was sick of it.
She was sick of losing, she was sick of being “the girl ninja”, she was sick of not being able to make her own choices and above all, she was sick of Jay.
It wasn’t that she hated him, the opposite was the truth; their shared love for bad TV dramas, the fact that he was the only one who could make her laugh, how they were so different that their personalities gelled well and worked off of each other.
And how with each passing day, she couldn’t stop herself from falling more and more in love with him.
But she couldn’t tell him all of that.
Not when they had a lovestruck diijn chasing them, not when they were in the middle of the endless sea and especially not while Jay still had the idea in his head that they were meant to be together all because of a reflection he had seen in the tomb of The First Spinjitzu Master.
As much as she wanted what he had seen to be true, as much as she loved so much about Jay, she wanted to have a say in it as well; she hadn’t been given a choice with her destiny as the water ninja but that didn’t mean she couldn’t have a say in her relationship.
“Please let me take a turn.” She begged after Jay brought his arms around again and his breathing grew heavy while he pulled in a shrill gasp of air, “if this our way of traveling with a low profile, the least I could do is help row.”
It was bad enough he was being stubborn but just an hour before the bombs had dropped, he had still been receiving care for his various injuries he had obtained aboard Misfortune’s Keep at the small clinic.
Most of the gashes had scabbed over, his concussion was mild, the coloring of the bruising had faded from purple to yellowish-green, he had pushed his auburn curls back down, covered up his freckles again and he was able to open his left eye now, but he could go downhill if he continued to push himself like he was doing at this very moment.
“No, no. I won’t hear it. You saved me last time, this time let me take care of you,” he insisted, pulling in gasping breaths that made her heart twist in worry that one too many rows and his broken ribs would puncture his lung again, “besides, a gentleman would never let a lady row.”
‘There’s that damn chivalry again.’
“Oh, look!” He shouted with a shaky breath, “we’re almost there!”
Sure enough, the gap between their small boat and the very large and very tall lighthouse where Zane’s father had been held captive by the skeletons was closing in on them.
But if she was being completely honest with herself, she was more so excited to get inside and get settled in so she could finally get Jay to rest and keep him from injuring himself more.
‘I would never forgive myself if he hurt himself trying to uphold his bizarre standards about me.’
She was so lost in thought that she only zoned in on the second half of what Jay was saying about how Nadakhan could search all of Ninjago but never find them before reaching her hand towards the water and propelling them forward at a much faster speed then even an uninjured person could row.
In fact, the movement caught Jay so off guard that he fell onto her legs and she waited for a sound of pain, but when he looked up at her with a sheepish grin, she couldn’t help but smile as she spoke, “you said I couldn’t row. I’m not rowing.”
The time between the boat washing up on the shore and the two of them ascending the stairs of the abandoned lighthouse was quick, but not quick enough for her to notice that Jay had offered his hand to help her out of the boat for a brief second before pulling it away and for her to hear his labored breathing as the two of them made their way inside.
Sure enough, everything was empty; they had brought all of the food that had been stored by Julien with them on their way to The Dark Island along with most of the personal belongings but at least they had the reassurance that they weren’t in Ninjago as well as working utilities.
“Actually, it’s a nice little resort,” Jay joked with a chuckle as he set his duffle bag on the table, “vacant for years, yet not a sign of dust.”
It was the same chuckle that came about when he didn’t really find what he was saying funny, more so that he was using his joking demeanor to hide his anxiety about the current situation, a chuckle Nya knew all too well.
Just dumping the contents of the duffle bag out set off an alarm only for the little robot who had served them tea the last time they were there to roll out with a few beeps, jump up onto the table and start putting everything back in the bag.
She couldn’t stop herself from chuckling, feeling the adrenaline that had quickly built up inside of her chest dissipate. “Oh,” she let out a sigh of relief, watching as the robot zipped up the bag, “I forgot Zane’s father liked his toys,” she stopped to turn to Jay, “what did you bring?”
“Oh, uh…” Jay stuttered, unzipping the bag and starting to go through the list, pulling each item out only for the robot to put them back. It would have been amusing if Nya hadn’t noticed how much he was blinking with squinted eyes.
“Enough food for a week, change of clothes, the vial of poison Nadakhan doesn’t know we have and finally, one teapot of Traveler’s Tea, but only just in case all else fails.”
“Great,” Nya nodded, putting her much heavier duffle bag on the table, making sure to keep it neat so the robot wouldn’t mess with it, “do you wanna go over the plan again?”
“Nya, what’s in there?” Jay answered her question with a question, forcing her to avoid his prying eyes to hopefully get him to drop it, but he was persistent, “and why is it in a Ninjago City EMS bag?”
She sighed, and unzipped the zipper before reading out the post-it note that the nurse who had patched Nya up and saved Jay’s life had inventoried everything in the bag.
“Antibiotic ointment, bandages, band-aids, gauze strips, rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer, nitrile gloves, oral pain killers, ointment for joint pain, a penlight, a thermometer, a spare eyepatch and an oxygen concentrator.”
Jay was silent for a moment, pressing his teeth into his chapped bottom lip; she didn’t know if he would deny the help, or act innocent in pretending that he had no idea what they were for, but he just stood up a bit straighter, cleared his throat and started to go over the plan again.
“Okay, if Nadakhan shows up, we shoot him with the poison. Then when he can’t use his magic, I say my last wish and save Ninjago,” his nervous chuckle returned as he finished speaking, “a wish Lloyd told me is said from my heart, a heart that has no clue what it could be but if said incorrectly could likely make everything ten times worse!”
“You’ll think of it,” Nya insisted, trying to make her voice sound soothing to quell Jay’s anxiety, “you always do. Now, let’s get settled in,” she insisted, taking the two duffle bags with her towards the twin bed in the corner in order to keep the robot from continuing to mess with them, “we could use the peace and quiet to think.”
The air was silent for the next twenty minutes as Nya took off her gloves and started cooking some soup on the small stove; using so little ingredients to try and ration out food as well as fill two stomachs for more than an hour was all too reminiscent of Four Weapons, of her childhood and of Kai.
‘Oh, Kai,’ she realized as she continued to chop the carrots and onions.
There had been so much going on between the disappearances, Jay getting captured and Nadakhan’s twisted plan for her that she hadn’t been able to take time to fully process that her big brother had been the first of the ninja to be taken.
Kai, who had protected her since day one. Kai, who only became a ninja to save her from Garmadon. Kai, who had stepped back when she became Samurai X because he knew she could protect herself, but also let her know that he would be the first one to take down anyone who hurt her if she needed him too.
She knew she could protect herself, she had done it so many times before…but the assurance that he would be the first to come after her had instilled the same cockiness that he threw around until he found himself in too deep.
Her tears ran down her cheeks and onto the flames of the stovetop which hissed in retaliation to the point where Jay asked if she was okay from the other side of the room.
“Y-yeah,” she wiped her eyes on the sleeve of her gi and continued cutting the vegetables, “just cutting onions!”
‘I will save you, Kai,’ she thought to herself, wondering briefly if her thoughts could penetrate the sword he was currently trapped in, ‘Jay and I will save all of you.’
But after tossing in the carrots, onion and celery, the soup had to simmer and she had to busy herself with her next task on her mental checklist she was keeping, which just so happened to be checking over Jay’s injuries.
“Dinner smells good.” He told her from where he sat on the floor as she walked over, seemingly testing the robot’s functions and patience with the reaction time of setting something on the floor and how fast it would put it away, “I’m calling him Gizmo, by the way. “Robot” seems offensive.”
“Gizmo it is,” she agreed, crossing her arms across her chest as she leaned against the wall and found the courage to ask, “how are you doing?”
“Oh, just fine,” his anxiety made itself known through his sentences instantly, “sure, all of our friends are trapped inside of a magic sword and Nadakhan is probably hunting us down at this very moment but at least we’re all alone in this lighthouse in the middle of nowhere,” his laugh sounded hollow as he put a bag of chips on the ground to watch Gizmo pick it up, “right?”
“Jay, I really think you should let me check you over,” she cut straight to the chase, watching as his shoulder muscles tensed in response, “to make sure nothing is getting worse.”
“Nya, I’m fine-”
“Just let me help you, please.” She cut him off which instantly caused his mouth to shut in stunned silence.
She tried not to cut him off unless she had to these days, wanting to make sure everyone else got words in even if she wasn’t able to find her own, but after having zero control over anything for days, she couldn’t do it any more.
But to her surprise, Jay sighed in surrender and sat down on the bed so that he was facing her, his right brown eye shimmering in the light of the setting sun before speaking again with a much softer voice, “be careful.”
Nya nodded before opening the duffle bag; she rubbed the hand sanitizer over her palms and the back of her hands, wincing when the alcohol seeped into one of the many small cuts on her hands.
‘At least I know my hands are clean.’ She tried to look on the bright side as she put on two of the bright purple gloves before turning to Jay and asking, “where do you want me to start?”
Nya knew the logical answer was his chest or his left eye, but she could see just how tense Jay was, how scared he was of her touch.
She had no idea what those pirates had done to him regarding the care of his wounds, or if they had done anything at all, but just seeing Jay so worried about what she was gonna do…
‘If I ever see Nadakhan again, I’m going to kill him.’
She knew that being a ninja, she was honor-bound to protect, to only hurt when necessary and that Master Wu would be disappointed with her thoughts of brutal violence.
But she was Samurai X first, and the Samurai had no master. Just a code of conduct based on her own set of morals.
‘And no one gets away with hurting my friends. Not like this.’
“My hands,” he said at last, peeling off his dirty, black gloves, revealing the white bandages that covered up jagged scars of lightning.
So Nya did what she was asked to do.
She removed the old bandages, checked for signs of infection, wiped down the wound and reapplied new bandages, moving from Jay’s hands, to his battered ankle, to a particularly bad gash that covered the length of his collarbone and to his broken ribs.
His breathing had evened out quite a bit since the ascent up the steps, which was a big relief to her and she knew that he would still have to rest for awhile even after they got the others back, but it meant that for now, he was safe.
“Jay?” She asked softly, gently putting a palm on his forehead while grabbing the penlight, “this is gonna be bright.”
He nodded silently and she flicked it on, watching as his right pupil slowly grew smaller, but not nearly as slow as the video of a patient’s eye the nurse had shown her after learning she’d be handling most of his care, which filled her with relief about the severity of his concussion.
But, as she looked over at his left eye, his light blue eye, and watched he squinted yet again, she found herself asking a question before she could even think it through while putting the penlight back in the bag.
“Jay? Can you see me?”
Nya wasn’t being specific and if she was being completely honest with herself, as soon as the words left her mouth, she expected Jay to crack a joke or even just be outright confused.
But the words made his face grow slightly dark as he balled his left hand into a tight fist while stuttering, “I-I can see shapes, I can see light but I can’t-” she could have sworn she heard his breath hitch on tears that made her own eyes water, “I can’t see your face.”
Nya didn’t expect those five words to affect her as much as they did when they hit her directly in the chest and made tears spring out of her eyes, tears just as hard as the ones that had fallen as she had mourned Kai.
“B-but it’s okay,” Jay’s voice insisted as he put his bandage-covered hands around hers, making her look up, “I mean, I couldn’t see anything out of it two days ago, so I’m sure it’s just temporary.”
And she wanted to believe him, she wanted to believe him so damn badly, but his voice was tinged with his laughter of anxiety which only made it clear to her that he didn’t even believe himself.
“This is my fault. I sent you after the venom all because I was mad at you for-”
“You were in the right, Nya,” Jay cut her off, gently rubbing his thumb over her worn knuckles, “I should have never lied to you guys about Nadakhan. I never should have made those stupid wishes in the first place.”
“But you can’t see, Jay!” Nya couldn’t stop herself from shouting as she stood up and ran her glove-covered hand through her hair, “so you lied. That doesn’t mean that you deserve to lose your sight! That you deserved any of what those pirates did to you!”
“I’m still standing because of you,” Jay insisted, getting off of the edge of the bed to seemingly prove his point, “I made it because of you.”
Nya nodded, the guilt still building in her chest as she wiped the tears off of her cheeks, “I want to kill him.”
“That makes two of us,” Jay’s voice was just above a whisper as he sat back down on the bed, “do you want to sleep first?”
“No, you take it,” she insisted as she pulled her gloves off so she could go back toward the soup that she could hear starting to boil, before remembering the oxygen concentrator that had been pushed into the EMS bag, “do you want me to set up the oxygen machine first?”
“No, I’m okay. But, you’ll wake me up, right?”
‘Right. Jay’s prone to nightmares.’
“Of course,” she nodded, watching as his eyes fluttered shut and left her alone with Gizmo as company, who was turning off the stove so the soup didn’t scorch.
She found the dishes, which had zero signs of dust or dirt on them and ladled a serving into her bowl before finding a reusable container in another cabinet and putting the leftovers in the fridge; she didn’t want to wake Jay up if she didn’t have to.
As she ate, Nya couldn’t stop herself from watching his chest rise and fall under the two blankets that were already on the bed when they had arrived.
‘Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale.’
Every full breath reassured her that he was alive, every breath that sounded like a struggle made her wonder if she needed to turn on the oxygen concentrator and hold the mask to his face to get his breathing back into its normal rhythm.
On top of it all, she was tired.
Exhaustion was a better way to put it, with the way she nearly face-planted into her soup and her bones felt too heavy for her to continue holding herself upright.
Even when Gizmo rolled over with a spare blanket clutched in his tiny palm, she shook her head; she had told Jay that he would wake him up if he needed her to and she refused to be useless by falling asleep.
It didn’t help that thoughts of Nadakhan coming in and killing Jay before kidnapping her if she didn’t stay alert swirled in her mind.
That thought alone was enough to keep her eyes from fluttering shut.
‘Come on, Nya,’ slow, bandaged hands wrapped around her arms and pulled her to her feet before gently urging her to walk across the wooden floor, ‘it’s your turn to sleep.’
She woke up to the smell of burning food and her teeth chattering.
The wound on her head stung horribly, the bruising made her arms feel like they weighed more than Cole’s weights but at least she was laying down.
‘When did I lay down?’
She started to sit up, only for a rust-tinted hand to lay on her chest; the last thing she had been expecting was to come face to face with…Zane?
But this wasn’t Zane, even if he looked like him. He was not the shiny titanium she had grown used to, and his exposed chest revealed moving gears and what looked like an alarm clock rather than Zane’s closed-off power source.
“Who are you?” She couldn’t hide the shake in her words or the rush of her heart rate as the nindroid took his hand off of her chest to put it against his in an introductory manner.
“I am Zane, built to protect those who cannot protect themselves.”
‘What the hell is happening?’
But before she could ask, or even fully process, that this was some version of one of her best friends, he turned away from her toward the other side of the room and said, “she’s awake, and unless my sensor fell out again, she’s still running a fever.”
“I don’t see your sensor anywhere in here, but I think there’s a thermometer in that EMS bag so we can be sure,” Jay’s voice cut in and when “Zane” moved away, he replaced his spot, “I met him last night, he was living in Julien’s old lab.”
“Okay..” she trailed off, feeling her fear ebb away and renewing the stinging of her forehead, which she started to reach a hand up to only for Jay to hold it instead, “what happened?”
“When I woke up, you were asleep at the table and running a fever. I think the wound on your forehead is infected,” Jay said while scratching the back of his neck nervously, but the fact that her brain felt sluggish at least made sense now, “so I figured that you should be laying down, but after I got you in bed, I heard something downstairs and I thought that someone had found us, but turns out, Zane’s dad had a lab in the basement.”
“And you found a replica of Zane down there?” Nya questioned
“I think “Echo” sounds cooler, but yeah,” Jay’s smile made her feel at least a little better, “and he kept me from burning down the lighthouse with breakfast this morning! And there’s another thing..”
“Oh?” She could tell by his tonal shift that it was not a good thing at all.
“While I was downstairs, there was a mirror where Nadakhan’s face had appeared,” her heart sunk and nausea hit her like a brick as Echo handed Jay the thermometer before walking over toward a small chess table, Gizmo on the other side, “Echo broke it, but I think Clancee wished for him to know where we are, probably not of his own choice, but that doesn’t change the fact that Nadakhan is on his way.”
Nya’s stomach turned painfully as she remembered her anxieties from the night before, of Nadakhan forcing Jay to wish it all away or even just straight up killing him to save himself the trouble of him trying to protect her.
Of taking her away, of forcing her into a marriage that she could never agree to, of gaining infinite wishes and destroying Ninjago in the process.
“Anyway, I was waiting on you to wake up, but you should use it,” he stopped to show her the teapot, “you should use it and get out of here. I can fight him off with Echo while you hide. Disguise yourself, change your name, anything.”
“You want me to run?” Nya swallowed harshly, “you want me to leave you here? You still have that wish, Jay. You can still stop him.”
“But what if it doesn’t work?” He asked, his hand letting go of hers and going to his hair, “what if I say it wrong, or what if I don’t say it in time?” He pulled in a deep, wheezing breath and ran his hand across his face, “you have to get out of here, Nya. All of this was my fault, all because I saw a glimpse of my future and wanted it to be real.”
She sat up, wincing at the pain radiating in her skull before laying her hand on his bandaged one only to look up and see both of his eyes filled with the shine of tears.
“I ruined your life, Nya.”
For a second, she couldn’t help but wonder if she agreed with his statement. Nadakhan was coming for them, her brother and their friends were trapped in a sword, they were running out of time; but, something about Echo and Gizmo playing chess, the seagulls outside and the sound of waves crashing onto the shore filled her with a sense of hope.
A sense that maybe, just maybe, they would make it out alive.
“But you saw us old together,” Nya insisted, trying to instill any hopefulness that she could muster into him, “so that must mean something. That must mean that we make it out of this together.”
“That’s why you should take the tea, and get as far away from me as possible!” Jay shouted, “I can hold him off, I can keep him focused on the fact he still has to get one wish out of me! He’ll be around me constantly, trying to get me to, um…say the thing,” Nya knew he was avoiding saying the phrase as if it would bring the dijin to them faster, “so that gives you enough time to change how you look enough that he won’t care anymore! He only wants you because you look like Delara-”
“Jay, I am not running away,” Nya cut him off while squeezing his hand to stop his tangent, “I am not letting you get captured, again. I am not letting you become their slave, again. I will never forgive myself for even letting it happen the first time.”
“But I can’t lose you too.”
‘He said there’s a lab. A lab we can build our defenses. A lab that’ll let us hold our own until he makes his wish.’
“And you won’t, because I have a plan,” Nya insisted as she stood on shaking legs and biting back a particularly painful throb in her head, “after all, ninja never quit and Samurai X, well…”she stopped to put her hand to the back of her head, nerves filling her up based on how Jay would respond, “Samurai X is ready to kick some ass. Because between you and me, I’m sick of running.”
But this was Jay, and even if they hadn’t always seen eye to eye, he at least tried to understand her side, so she wasn’t all that surprised when he stood up while saying, “that makes two of us.”
“Now, let’s see this lab,” she told him, taking his hand so her legs would stop shaking, “I want to know exactly how we’ll show Nadakhan that he never should have messed with us.”

Karl Jacobs list Masterlist
******************
The sun shining on an island with pirates all around us. Today the barrow is crowded. The lights inside were dim with the sun blazing in through the window and door. The air full of smoke. The shelf is full of bottles of a variety of whiskey, Tequila, and many other drinks. The bartender taking shots with fellow pirates while the other side of the bar started singing sailor tails or songs. With people coming in and out with some escorts during for the men as they steal their treasure. Giving a nod to the bartender for a refill as my crew relax. The stories of, 'The Queen of The Pirates.' The tales always seem to crack a smile to me. Hearing the door to the front open not turning my head. The whisper start to arise as I feel the person sit stand next to me placing his arms on the bar counter. Looking in the corner of my eye of his hand with rings. Smelling his scent was familiar giving only a smirk. 'While if it isn't my old company. The one they say that is, 'The King of The Pirates,' giving a laugh. 'Such a foolish name but he also your competitor isn't he? Foolish something?' Looking over at him. As he played with the rings on his fingers. With a loose white button up shirt having half his button undone. Along with some necklaces and belt around his pants.
'Y/n I need your help,' my back face the bar tender as I look at all the pirate in one bar. 'Why would I help you? If I have nothing to gain from you.' He stares to all the bottles behind the bartender. ' if you help me do this. I will pay you back I promise.' With the room once with talking became quiet. The promise. For pirates if a promise is made it's ether you for fill that promise or death. Grabbing his arm bringing him outside of the bar near the ships. Hearing the talks start once again as we leave. 'Do you know the warning of that word? You saying that word in front of everyone?' I stared at him. 'I know the meaning of it that's why I have said it in front of everyone.' Tapping my leg, 'why do you even want to be a king? I gave you that opportunity the first time we have brought it up.With you declining that offer and you leaving the next day. Now that some people have challenged that you decide to come here.' With a blank stare from him with his fingers placing around with the rings of his hand. 'Look karl, I get that you want to be the king of the pirates but as a Friend I don't think you have it in you. You didn't even build your own ship. And you only have some crew mates.' He only stares past me to the water. 'I want to do it for you,' he says with his back facing me, 'I left because-.' Cutting him off, 'you cut me off because you just wanted to use me for a title karl. Because you wanted what I had.' I point at his chest walking onto my ship. 'You were the first guy on land and sea that I value more than myself you know,' Turing around as I stared at him. ' I would've given you anything but you left only leaving a note saying, you want to be on your own, no goodbye. I had to find out by some other pirates that passed your boat.' Turning around facing my back. 'I would've given up my title for you. You jerk!' I shouted to punch his chest.
Repeatedly.
Yet he never me. He didn't grab my wrist or said any words. All he did was stare down at my hands. Punching him. He moved his hand to take off my hat to notice my eyes. They had tears. My punches weren't going as hard as before. Felt his hand going in to hug me while my breathe started to shake. With my head going to his chest. 'Why did you leave?' Before he knew it their was a tear coming from Karl. 'I don't know y/n. I wish I could tell you.' There was no speaking after his words. He spoke the truth. That was the worst pain. He didn’t know why he left. ‘I’ll be leaving this island tomorrow by noon. If you want to join me for this travel I’ll be happy for you to join.’ All he did was nod. He lets me go as I push back. The sunsets with our shadows starting to separate. It’s like our shadows knew our fates before us. He eyes started to admire me as I start to admire himself. Feeling the warmth of his hand on my cheek with his rings. Their it was. The sparkle in his eyes once more. He brought me back into him once more. I closed my eyes to feel his lips up against mine. Once again our shadow is at once. This is where I wanted to be.
The next day, came with my crew loading up everything to the ship. Noon is approaching, he’s no where to be seen. I knew not to get my hopes up but there was slight chance he would’ve came. I don’t know what would’ve happened. I felt someone approaching beside me as I straighten my back. ‘He’s not coming is he?’ I turned to notice my senior officer standing next to me. I would try to disagree but there no use to it. ‘He’s a captain of his own ship. I knew wouldn’t come.,’ I turned to walk onto the shop. ‘We trained him better than that to abandon his crew like that.’ Placing a smile then walking onto the ship. ‘Get on board we are leaving.’ Everyone rush to set sails as I wait in the front hearing yells from the crew. I start to remember what he said after the kiss.
‘He pulled away from the kiss to look at me once more ‘the sunset is beautiful isn’t it?’ He says with some tears in his eyes. That’s when I knew what he meant. I move his hand away from my cheek walking to the ship. He loves me yet wants us to part ways again. ‘The sunset-,’ I choked on my words as I nod. Walking onto the ship.’
He would be the man I loved but after last night he let me go. We sail heading to our next island. I turn to look over at the dock. The further we got i started to notice someone with a wave saying goodbye. ‘Till we meet again karl.’

okay so who’s here to ask about fish while i procrastinate on this fic /crickets/ okay good so
i don’t have much nautical nonsense going on so any sea enjoyers or boat lovers have anything to say please tell me anything i don’t know what the fuck is going on
I try to adapt the whole of P4 into a navy pirate sea thing whatever. Okay so the plot is that Inaba is this far off kind of fishing town city thing hold on let me draw it
Tumblr media
Okay shitty ipad drawing. Anyway circular body of water which connects to the ocean sea or something. Civilization on the edge of the water or whaever
There’s fog that seems to concentrate only in the middle of that body of water and nobody can really get through it. People can get lost in it but they’ll end up somewhere outside the fog safety, they won’t get lost but they won’t exit where they’ll expect and they’ll never know what’s inside the fog.
When it rains enough, the fog would move to the warmer land and shore, then a storm brews in the area where the fog was originally concentrated in. It’s okay if it happens though, nobody gets to go outside but as also as no one comes near that part of the water they’ll be fine. It passes all becomes normal sooner or later.
and that’s what makes the town quirky lol. Souji’s parents are these naval based trading logistics kind of people and they also. travel by water a lot. Souji’s stuck being homeschooled or goes to some schools when they stay on land for an prolonged period of time but it’s never long.
His parents get a big offer and leave Souji with his uncle and cousin in bumfuck nowhere. But they also left him there because of this connection with the Junes equivalent of this au because they also have them as their partners.
Suddenly a mystery arises where dead bodies end up on the shore. They don’t look poisoned nor wounded anywhere. Their bodies look perfectly preserved besides the water damage, and the report that they didn’t die by drowning either.
The Investigation Crew is formed and they set out to the fog which they can enter apparently and see the Horrors and find the victim dumped there for whatever reason before it’s too late.
OKAY more world building shit where do i start ‘you haven’t mentioned the mermaids yet’ yeah there’s like two of them hold your horses.
The Midnight Channel is just like. If there’s commotion going on in the collective unconscious, people can peek their heads outside at midnight to hear the sea sing about who everyone’s thinking about. If you personally recognize who the subject of the song is, the song would be more cohesive and understandable rather than a melody without clear lyrics. If there’s a victim in the fog, the song will be about what they’re hiding and that they’re essentially letting people know about it now.
The TV world is basically the space inside the fog. The rogue Shadows are just like. sea monsters or something in the water. I haven’t figured out Persona equivalents though sorry. They get super pirate powers or something maybe then they get to punch fish with their bare hands lol.
There is no way for normal people to enter the fog unless theyve been put in by someone who can enter. And normal people can’t leave the fog once they’re in it either.
Just explained how the fog works above. Anyway, if the fog clears and moves to land, the “storm” has a sea monster in it as a Shadow self equivalent. It will sing a song about its human self, and if the human self denies, they’ll die.
Souji docked into town for the first time and there’s this boat repairman mechanic dock guy who greets him before local inspector comes by with his daughter to come fetch him. Souji gets a weird sea dream and apparently has powers to enter the magical fog now.
Two kids from his class tell him they can’t enter the fog and they try taking a boat to it for shits and giggles and to show Souji they’ll end up on another side. And they actually manage to get into the fog. Expecting to come out a different side of the fog, instead they hear a song of a distressed woman who hates another woman and is considering to end her own life. This sea lion manatee thing, idk i haven’t decided, comes up to them and pushes them out of the fog.
So a dead body shows up. Anyway um. Souji tries the rumor Chie mentioned and hears the song of a girl this time. Yosuke says she sounded like she was Saki and she sounded like she was in pain. Chie and Souji couldn’t make out the song as much because they don’t know Saki as much as Yosuke. And her body washes up on shore.
Yosuke wants to go back into the fog and Souji follows. Chie on another boat with a rope to their boat but it looks bitten off when they enter the fog so she cries. Yosuke and Souji meet the manatee sea lion thing and Yosuke calls it “Teddie” and he guides them to a part of the fog where the mist starts forming some illusion in the shape of the last victim’s reality.
SEA MONSTERS and um. Souji beats the shit out of them with the power of god and anime (izanagi maybe idk. lightning.) Yosuke hears his Shadow singing and talking shit about him and they have a throw down and he gets his powers and the fog starts changing shape and there’s no song anymore. They make a promise with Teddie they’ll make this part of the water quiet again and stop dead bodies from washing up.
OKAY DID THAT RENDITION OF THE INTRO MEAN ANYTHING . i could go on but i’m actually getting tired whoops.
okay back to world building. i’ll be honest i haven’t thought much about the IT because i’m insane or whatever.
Teddie is magical and shapeshifts to a humanoid form because i think he should do that. But he goes back animal mode to entertain the kids in the market.
Adachi was kicked out of the last crew was in and started sail boating his way to Inaba because that’s the only news he has of any similar patrolling inspector jobs he’s heard of and the nearest one apparently. He’ll be stuck in bumfuck nowhere until he can get a ferry or a better boat out but whatever.
He crashes his boat on the dock and starts yelling at the guy who was suppose to guide him. Same guy is dripping sopping wet from the rain earlier and also smells like fish, but he says he came from the fish market or something. Guy fixes Adachi’s boat and he leaves to get recruited by Dojima or something.
I don’t know how he gets victims to the fog don’t ask me about that. Anyway Namatame does his delivery gigs anyway and for some reason has an extra dingy on his boat to just. have victims drift inside maybe.
Naval logistics and deliveries are pretty hard because you can’t go straight across the fog, so it’s the long route of going around it. Junes equivalent group came around and had a bunch of imported products which started the decline of a bunch of local businesses but that’s how it was going to be.
The Velvet Room Ohhh S.S. Velvet or fucking whatever. Blue boat that constantly sails around the edge of the fog and is magical and never seen by no one but Souji. There is no one on the boat except like, three people. Sometimes the captain is there, sometimes he’s not. Margaret’s the acting captain but is ultimately there to assist Souji in finding the truth (a fish) and also babysit this kid she fished out of the water that he also met near the docks or something.
Marie amnesiac and likes writing poems and shanties and she sings them on starboard sometimes when no one’s around but starts screaming when Souji climbs aboard after he saw it sailing around and maybe Igor called him there.
She isn’t really human and she kind of smells like fish and the sea constantly also she has amnesia and says people shouldn’t bother with the truth and the fog and there’s no point trying to find the center of it (literally)
But she enjoys her new memories and experiences and will want to make more but she remembers SHE’S A FISH!!!!!! (siren) Then she thinks her voice was dangerous the whole time and goes shapeshifts fully and dives to the bottom of the sea. Margaret helps Souji’s crew to dive down and find her and save her but also realize there’s another fish behind everything.
HERES THE PART YOUVE ALL BEEN WAITINF FOR so iznmi’s also a fish (siren)
it’s creepy because they really do know all your desires and your character and what you’re hiding and they’re the ones initially singing the first song before the victim actually gets into the fog.
Covered in seaweed and white moss and giant molted exoskeletons and scrap linens, and underneath it’s just a rotting fish constantly bleeding decaying with parasites all over and bony and terrifying how it can trick you with its voices and songs. In their humanoid form they can’t stay out of water for long because they’ll start smelling of rot or whatever.
Siren whose species was once actually well loved and worshipped and is guardian of that land they're trying to engulf and drown because they've been forgotten in the greed of the riches they've gathered for these people.
Siren mother who gave birth to two offspring and the elder one who watched her die from human greed and destructive desire. So it vowed to grow stronger and give humans what they deserve. But infected by polluted water and parasites that have been keeping them alive as a zombie until they forget their identity and sense of self. Forgetting their own promise of revenge and not acting right they lash out on their own sister they wanted to protect and leave her to forget her own identity and die alongside the humans she adores so much and who she actually wanted to protect.
alsoim fucking tired. goodnight my biggest fans i am going ! to bed

This is more a rant about Capsize than an actual analysis on her character, but I feel overloaded with information from watching everyone's point of view during the pirate arc.
Starting off with Tucker, he is the first person to get an item from Capsize. The item Tucker gains is a stand in compensation for his boat building, Capsized’s Cutlass, something the captain herself is very adamant on getting back. The name of the item is in orange and the description, which is in purple, reads “Compensation for buildin’ arr ship”. Building was not the only thing he was doing for them that stream. He fetches them grog and gold, saves Redbeard with a desperately needed bucket of water, he even gives Capsize his own (arguably better) enchanted diamond sword when she asks for it (she ends up giving it back), and later on will stop using her cutlass when he wears it down too much. Having consistently shown his dependability, there’s not much surprise to see that he earns himself not only a place in the crew, but the position of first mate. After this exchange Tucker states “Pirates already gave me more than Mianite. And the Pirates are good. Doesn’t mean I’m losing Mianite, we’re helping Ianite get back on the server!”.
A couple of streams later they’re all getting ready to enter the nether in search for Ianite’s Heart is when Tucker finally receives his true reward from Capsize. After he drops her damaged sword she drops him, Hell’s Map. Which is described as “Capsized’s Prized Possession”, it again has an orange name and purple description. Interesting how such an important Ianite centric item goes not to her champion but one of Mianite’s. This is a bit of a common theme, for instance Tucker gets the last hit on Furia gaining Ianite’s heart in the process, Tucker Tom and Sonja all working together to finish building the portal (Jordan being late that stream), and both Tucker and Tom finish off Furia’s Guards gaining two beacons each, and it’s Tom who places all of them lighting the portal to Aethoria.
Side Note: Tucker seems to have a slight penchant for getting gifted swords from figures of authority who he’s aligned himself with; The blade of trust given to him by season one Mianite, Capsized’s Cutlass temporarily gifted to him by Capsize, and The Kikoku gifted to him by season two Mianite.
Now on to Sparklez! The gifting of the rose is not as romantic as I feared it would be. Jordan asks if it's for him and she responds with “If ye want it…”. There is no importance placed on the rose on Capsize’s part, in fact it’s Jordan who views this as some act of admission of romantic desires. But the “rose” itself is an unnamed poppy, showing that he puts more emphasis on it than she does. Later on, she will rename it to “Jardon’s Rose” which is in a white name and holds no description, breaking the orange name and purple description pattern we see with most of the items given by her, and the situation revolving around that item renaming leaves me to believe that it isn’t done out of an honest interest in him, seeing how she misspelled his name and played it off as her being uneducated as a pirate. But that’s a lie because both her and her brother have shown the ability to read and write. She was able to perfectly spell “Syndicate”.
Before that though, Jordan completes a very simple task that was originally meant for Sonja, ending up with him trying to save face with Capsize and fumbling throughout their conversation trying to get on her good graces, ending with him being demoted from Captain Sparklez to Boatswain Sparklez. (After this I noticed that the few times “The Captain” is mentioned it is in reference to Capsize not Jordan) The position feels a bit unearned seeing how a boatswain is someone who is incharge of ship maintenance and Jordan is actually the one who had sunk her original ship. A couple of dirty jokes are shared between the both of them, and while one could consider this flirting, Capsize doesn’t seem to just make them with him, but Tom as well.
Surprisingly Jardon’s Rose isn’t the only thing that Jordan receives from Capsize. He actually gets three redstone in exchange for the pufferfish that he gifts her. This entire interaction truly feels like a fever dream when you take into account that Jordan and Capsize are not dating! Not only was that never made official, but Capsize while she enjoys his presence she doesn’t even favor him out of all the other champions. This is shown not only by her response to Jordan's advancements, after kissing her he asks if she liked it her response was “I guess…” and she proceeds to run away from him afterwards, and her mistaking him for being taken on three separate occasion all in the same stream, but also by what items she gives to him which is nothing in comparison to what the others get from her. To what Tom gets from her.
Side Note: The hierarchy on her crew goes like this: Capsize (Captain) -> Tucker (first mate) -> Jordan (boatswain) -> RedBeard (deckhand). While both Sonja and Tom are counted as part of the crew and later (after Capsize’s imprisonment/ death) revealed what position they hold,  because it wasn’t directly given to them by Capsize, I am not adding them here.
Tom. Capsize and Tom. Tom and Capsize. What an interesting and complicated duo. They obviously didn’t start off that great with Tom threatening Ianite and all. But something shifts in her opinion of him, because the first thing that she gives him isn’t a weapon or something important to the mission of retrieving Ianite’s Heart. She in fact returns something to him. Nemo, in orange name and a purple description reading “Caught by Captain_Capsize”, she doesn’t ask him for anything in return. And of course this could have been some type of leverage to get him to open the vault where the heart is being kept, but she didn’t know that they would need him to do that. They win the fight with Furia, and instead of following Tucker and her brother out of the nether or going with Jordan to find his pickaxes, she sticks near Tom. They don’t make conversation and Capsize for the most part keeps her distance.
It isn’t until after the return from Ianeria that Tom gets something else from Capsize. She had helped him transport the Mooshrooms to the community farm and he is the only one who pays her for the trip (albeit with her own gold, but it’s the thought that counts). Tom questions her on whether she or Redbeard have his sword and bow and she says that neither of them have anything, but she says “I’ll be nice mate, some spare goods”. What exactly it is that she gave him, I don’t know Tom’s stream cuts before that conversation so I had to watch from Tucker’s POV, but I’d like to imagine that one of the items was her cutlass. Already on such low durability and with Tom having gotten in her good graces, not to mention he seemed to need more than she did at the moment. The next time we see her she does wield an unenchanted gold sword, but of course that could just be because her original iron cutlass was so close to breaking. Whatever those “spare goods” were, she gave it to him for free.
For rescuing her Jordan gets gifted a forest and the mianitee’s get armor that while better than what they’ve gotten from him before is not better than their current armor from Mianite who was told to by Ianite. But Tom is the odd man out in this, for he gets something from Capsize! Her original vessel repaired now flying dianitee red sails and a sword with the orange name Captain Syndicate's Cutlass, and the purple description reading “Every pirate be needin’ a sword!”  Here’s what confused me, Capsize leaves Tom the deed to the ship where she explains to him that she’s thankful to him and how he’s a true hero for going against his god to help his friends and she signs it with “X X X”. Jordan reads the book out to the group and spirals a bit, he takes Capsize to actually be saying euphemisms and how this is Tom “stealing his girl”, but Capsize couldn’t have been more clear in this short and straight to the point note! There’s nothing to be misconstrued and yet it was regardless. Also I know she didn’t sign the book off with kisses because in an earlier stream they read a book by Redbeard and he signs off with the x’s too, so that’s just a cultural difference.
On to my favorite item she tries to give Tom, but before that I should explain my thoughts on his 81st stream or Jordan’s Mianite episode 70 “Girl Problems”. (Which I highly recommend to watch from Tom's POV first and then Jordan’s.) It’s this stream where I'd say fanservice is really hammered in, because before that any reference to romance had been done either from chat or the streamers, not Capsize herself. She states how lonely she is and how everybody on the island is taken, she then proceeds to say she wants to be asked out on a date and asks Tom out when Jordan doesn’t want to. Which is not a good look especially since this is her last appearance before she dies in the next stream.
Let’s go back to Jardon’s Rose. From Jordan’s perspective this seems to be Capsize trying to win him over but she privately messages both him and Tom the exact same line, a grease lyric “Ye be the one that I want…The one I want…”. Which I would take seriously is if she hadn’t messaged both of them that, and if she hadn’t already played off another song lyric as a joke. The first time she says a lyric in chat it's Beyonce's, “If ye liked it then ye shoulda put a ring on it” which is a lyric referencing marriage. Jordan asks her if that’s what she wants and she responds with “Not really matey. I thought I was funny.” While Jordan states his annoyance at Capsize’s wishy washy attitude with him, Tom keeps his conversation with her quiet. He asks her to not only kill Jordan but bring him his armor to prove that he should believe her. And the planets seemingly have aligned to give her that opportunity. On the way to Toms, Jordan gets poisoned by a witch and while low on health is shot by Tom, leaving his items in Capsize’s inventory. She walks back to Tom’s room and drops the armor in front of him, what sucks about this is that it doesn’t click for him what exactly she is doing. I feel that there was so much potential to see Capsize be a tipping point for Tom to betray Dianite, maybe if we had her for longer or if it was Redbeard who got imprisoned/ killed off we could’ve seen them become good friends.
Side Note: Redbeard and Capsize’s relationship truly deserves its own full post, but I will say that Redbeard unknowingly led his sister to her demise at Furia’s hand. Capsize had been getting Nvidia'd so she was in and out of most of the conversation between Redbeard and the champions. Redbeard throughout his explanation as to why they need to go kill Furia, sounds paranoid and desperate. Unfortunately none of the champions seemed to have retained the information that Furia can’t be killed by mortal hands, so Redbeard is essentially making futile plans that end in the worst way possible for him. Capsize does come back from being Nividia’d and as they make their way to the nether and she asks if she can tag along. She is late to the confrontation and after a series of what I would describe as a failed saving checks. Capsize arrives and dies not long after. Notably her last words in chat are “Shut up Furia!” after they insulted her lady.
Later on during her failed revival, Redbeard immediately throws himself into a river in front of Ianite’s Temple. After the champions talk him out of anymore drastic means of mourning, they follow Lady Ianite to a dragon where she proceeds to feed it Capsize’s remains. Unless you count blood spots on Ianite’s Temple floor there is nothing tangible left to mourn. There is no grave or memorial, just memories and skewed perceptions of her.
To conclude this, at the end of it all it doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter how much respect she holds for Tucker, how hard she tries to gain a positive relationship with Tom, and how little mind she pays Jordan in comparison. They will all always view her as someone in relation to Sparklez, that will always be their perception of her. And that’s what Mianite’s about isn’t it? Who you’re watching. Who’s perspective you’re getting information from. It just fucking sucks that they all hold a similar opinion on who Capsize was. But I will leave with a comparison some might disagree with, but Sparklez is to Capsize what season two Ianite is to him.

Can I ask about your OCs? Bc I really would like to hear more about the fenbela polycule and Catherine Hawke for reasons. What kind of scams do they pull? What's marrying Fenris for tax purposes like?
Yes you can!!! I’m sorry this post ended up so long so i’m putting it below the cut
Weirdly enough the fenbela polycule unfortunately probably does not exist in my worldstate where catherine actually is hawke for timeline reasons (2 me fenbela is about them starting off as emotionally congested fwbs and fenris simply wouldn’t have casual sex with the woman his best friend has been in love with for 2+ years) but i am thinking about rearranging things to make it happen 🤔
But cat is repurposed in my canon worldstate as catherine amell, hawke’s second or third cousin whose family is too many iterations of youngest child of a youngest child to get in on much of the generational wealth, and instead were traders in ferelden killed by darkspawn during the blight. This left cat orphaned in denerim, where she started working with k’s gang (from the gnawned noble quests in dao) and, as soon as she got a whiff of some of what enough gold can buy you, became to be determined to do everything she could do to be rich as fuck. While that started out as shanking some guys as a low level denerim goon, eventually she built up enough resources of her own to follow her true calling: becoming the anna delvey of southern thedas.
Basically, her go-to is to either come to rich people with some kind of investment opportunity before taking the money and running, or to integrate herself into some city’s nobility’s social circle until she has enough access that her guys can come in and rob the place while she has them distracted. She ends up building up a crew of her own and gets her fingers in various black market schemes across the continent.
Eventually she ends up hearing about some kind of insanely wealthy antivan merchant prince who planning to take an exclusive group of nobles and other rich merchants out on a heavily guarded boat to unveil some kind of extremely valuable macguffin – i mean artifact – so obviously she immediately schemes her way on board, where she meets… isabela, who, pirate that she is, is trying to rob the same guy. The two quickly realize that they’re in each other’s way, and after, an evening of foiling each other’s schemes, decide they’re going to work together and split the profits later.
Once they’ve secured the prize and are safely ashore, they end up sleeping together, and, after they both catch each other trying to steal back the macguffin for themselves and sneak out on the other, decide they should probably work together again for real. They’re a good team!
Basically they carry on like this for a while and do end up working together quite a bit and meeting up and off. MEANWHILE we’re like a year or two out from the end of DA2 and isabela and fenris have been in aforementioned emotionally congested fwb situation since Act 3. While they had some plausible deniability that this was purely casual and feelings were in no way involved while they were both living in the same city, at this point both of them are in completely separate countries and are still going out of their way to meet up semi-regularly for “booty calls”. It’s embarrassing and not fooling anyone but themselves!
This post is already so long so i wont get into too many details but basically eventually catherine tells bela she wants this to be more than casual hookups, bela realizes she kind of wants that (which scares her) and also because (as she seems to in the game) she associates commitment with monogamy, she realizes that despite definitely no feelings being involved whatsoever!! she feels some type of way about having to end things with fenris. Her and fenris both kind of realize at this point that they were actually in love with each other the whole time but also figure that by now that ship has probably sailed. Which catherine (who has met fenris quite a few times at this point and gets along surprisingly well with him!) picks up on and is like “you know i wouldnt mind if you were in a relationship with fenris too”
after some begruding and much needed communication about their relationship, isabela goes fantasy facebook official with both of them… until two months later when she has another crisis about commitment and runs out on her girlfriend and her boyfriend. Which should be it, except, well, catherine has heard about fenris’ whole thing fucking up magisters in tevinter, and she actually has some contacts in tevinter who could probably help him out, and you know, she’s kind of been thinking about expanding into tevinter lately.. which is how the two of them end up working together on a job liberating slaves from a magister (and gold from his bank account).
Isabela comes back a la act 3 of the belamance ready for commitment for realsies this time! only to find that her exes(?) are now not only working together but have somehow become like, best friends. Anyway, things continue to be messy and complicated from there because.. it’s them, but generally it does work out well for them! The marriage is honestly not a big of a deal – none of them ever really imagined they would get married anyway and so when catherine realizes it would probably be financially advantageous to be married, (and i’m sorry because i AM headcanoning thedas to be more homophobic than it canonically is bc i don’t think gay marriage is really legal there. I think sera and the inquisitor could do it bc divine victoria was Right There. but that’s why isabela isn’t an option), fenris seems like the logical person to put down

Saw Last Voyage of the Demeter!
(spoilers below cut)
Struck me as a movie that, while being very similar plot-wise to Alien, was directed by someone who had never seen Alien or REALLY didn't want to be compared to Alien. It was alright.
In my opinion, it wasn't able to hold onto much of the tension it created because it was moving so fast from night to night that I actually lost track of where in the day the characters were more than once, which is a problem in a vampire movie for obvious reasons. The story taken from the book is already scary, as well, so the violence in the movie was surprising - if done right, simply vanishing crewmembers and finding them later would have been sufficiently scary, but they tried to crank it up with violence to make up for where the 'being stalked by a vampire' fear tailed off. It isn't excessively violent, and some of it was really good and showed off Dracula being more than a mindless beast, some of it was just alright. Nothing was bad, but I could see where they could trim some things and make it very good.
Emphasizing that the sun is setting and using dramatic irony better, maybe a cast that was a bit bigger, playing on inter-crew paranoia - it was alright, but if put together the way Alien was, this really could have been a stellar movie. You can see where they almost pulled it all together, but not quite, and it's a little disappointing they don't spend more time emphasizing how fucked all these guys are. They know they are, they all see Dracula coming, there are lines in the movie about it, but something just doesn't meld it all together quite right.
You never really feel how small a schooner is, either. The boat felt spacious. You forget they're on the water when they're below deck.
Also, as a smaller nitpick, they start the movie with a constable picking up the ship's log, and it implies we're reading along with him - they seem to forget that's how they started the film by the end of it.
Overall it was still an enjoyable watch, and some of it was plenty scary. The build-up from the start of the movie to the first death is GREAT if you know what's about to happen to these poor crewmen. The emphasis that they skipped a port to make time for a bonus in spite of losing all their animals and potentially facing an outbreak of some disease, and that the decision comes back to haunt them once they realize what situation they're in, is great. I like boats on storms, and while I'm not a boat person I know the sails have to move and the setting wheel doesn't look like it does in pirate movies, so the movie got that right.
I liked it on the big screen. Worth a matinee ticket if you're interested in the story of the Demeter, or a prime time ticket if you're REALLY interested. It's decent as an adaptation.
