Analysis of the German gay film #freefall / #freierfall PART 1

For the 10th anniversary (omg! 10 years already!) of one of my favorite movies I decided to make an analysis of the film and especially of the scenes between these two great actors. Max Riemelt and Hanno Koffler. Kay and Marc. Marc and Kay. Yes, I'm in love with both of them. It's a movie that I don't know how many times I've seen that without knowing German I know the dialogues by heart. I hope you appreciate it and above all that this will encourage the fandom and the possible realization of the second part, which I am looking forward to. From time to time I will upload parts analyzing the film from my perspective after having seen it so many times and having understood different nuances over the years.

HERE IT IS PART 1:

The film begins at the police academy training where we immediately see that, in a practice on the athletics track, Marc is not able to keep up with his teammates and is falling behind until the group is already well ahead of him. While he is panting, he can't take it anymore and just walks while his teammates continue running.

After this scene we can already appreciate the first moment where the protagonists, Marc and Kay share something more than a shot and that is that (for the moment) they are roommates. Marc decides to get up early for what presumably is to go to practice the speed test that as we have witnessed in the first minutes of the film is one of his weak points. What should be noted, moreover, is that in the first scene of the film, the advanced student at the head of the group of runners is, precisely, Kay. Before Marc leaves the room we already have the first joke of Kay towards Marc where he tells him lying down with a jocular tone "how much God helps the early risers", Marc's response and to which we will have to get used to is to look at Kay and tell him everything with this gesture without uttering a word, but sketching a small smile.

In the next appearance of both, although we already see friction between their bodies, it is not a friendly one, but rather, they are immersed in another police practice, this time with the riot uniform on where they recreate a demonstration and what it would mean to charge against the violent people who confront the police. Kay pretends to be one of them while Marc lines up with another group of comrades making a common police front. Marc takes the lead in the attack after the instructor's express order and it is not quite clear why in the following scene. Kay bursts in with force to take down the policeman who is blocking his way, as it could not be otherwise it is a Marc- Kay melee.

Why do the two end up arguing and with unbridled aggression? The answer is confusing. Perhaps Marc in an attempt to forget his poor performance in the speed test wants to stand out this time. Albeit in a dirty way, as he achieves his purpose by taking Kay to the ground after kicking him. Or is it just an excuse involving both of them to keep them together because after Kay abruptly gets up from the floor he starts insulting Marc and Marc doesn't stand still, but answers him and confronts him too. Be that as it may, the two are called to attention and forced to pay a visit to the director of the academy to somehow fix what just happened. Without knowing how to answer what happened in this scene, it is certain that their joint reprimand plants the seed of friendship between the police trainees.

The smoke, the cigarettes and the simple act of smoking embodies the meeting point between the two and for that very reason, blessed tobacco. After having passed by the director's office, they meet again, as if not smoking in the street. And here is the exact moment where the chemistry between them begins. In this scene Kay makes his famous joke towards the head of the academy with his phrase "a real poet that Brandt", jokes that Marc begins to love as he lets out a laugh.

I also want to highlight the small details. The small details are everything. Hence the reason for this analysis. Kay asks Marc if he has a light to light his cigarette and he was about to take Marc's hand where he had the cigarette and bring it close to his to light it, a scene that we will see later on that not only will make Marc slightly uncomfortable, but also shows the unresolved sexual tension between them and how it is precisely the small details that will make them both fall in love with each other. Here comes Marc's forgiveness of Kay for his attitude at practice earlier and his attraction to the blonde-haired man. Kay starts smoking not just any cigarette but a joint. If there is one adjective that defines Kay it is bravery and fearlessness. He is smoking marijuana in the middle of the police academy after having been reprimanded by the director (!!)

Can that turn us on more? Marc also shows that he is not only attracted to this, even if he resists, but that he likes it, because he ends up accepting the puff that Kay offers him. Kay's courage seems to have no limits and they decide to go to the academy pool at night, defying all the rules. Marc keeps asking him if he's crazy, but he follows Kay and they both end up taking a dip in the pool and playing with each other. This scene is THE scene.

It is because of this scene that their love language begins to develop. All couples have their own language where there are words or even phrases that only they know what they mean. This is where Kay in order to entice Marc to take a bath with him says the "pussy" thing to him, appealing to Marc's masculinity and manliness. Obviously his pride as a man does not allow him to look like a pussy in the eyes of others and that word from Kay will be the impetus to make Marc take action. Throughout the film the word "pussy" will make them both smile at each other when they hear it.

I have to say it. I started my Shayne journey this week and honestly not mad at all. I just u know, love to see sometimes how Shayne will be looking at chance like he's trying to understand something in him, that he doesn't even realize. Always when chance isn't looking obviously, the other part to me is how gentle the interactions are, sometimes I feel like Shayne is afraid of Chance in a good way I think. Then when they laugh at the same joke, it's rare but curious. I sense like they could be really good friends, but there's something that doesn't let them be close in that way. Maybe they're not trying to be friends, maybe they will always see the other as someone dar away even though they actually have a lot of things to relate. The new video with the fanfic really highlights for me that strange aura around them, like a wall they're too afraid to be friendly, Shayne seemed nervous and I don't understand why, nothing bad really happens and he doesn't like the eye contact too much hahahaha. Those two are a funny little duo, like they would be the kind of friendship that act like they have a secret and wouldn't tell anybody and inside jokes. So I'm saying this to you now, thank you for sharing your love for this duo, they deserve more, even if it's only shipping, it works for me, I don't mind. Another thing is, I would love to see more banter between them in the next videos hahahaha. Chance did a great job in the fanfic, he really is a theater kid. I wonder if he sense Shayne nervousness sometimes or not. Please share you thoughts on them too!!! I would totally read just an essay of them, explaining why you like this dynamic if you ever wanted to write it

Adding on, I also find that Chanse does the same with Shayne! Both of them watch eachother and seem to REALLY be listening. I think Shayne wants to impress Chanse, not always but often he'll make a joke and look over to Chanse for his reaction.

And I understand what u mean sm! I could deffo feel some nervousness from Shayne, once again I've seen other ppl say it but it is so introvert x extrovert!

and honestly even without shipping, I think their dynamic and friendship is so fun and entertaining! They really are so funny together!

I honestly tried to go back and see what video made me think of shaynse, but I honestly can't remember at all!

Honestly, I think I like this ship just cause its so interesting and like you said, gentle? There's this sort of softness that I always associate with shaynse, and even any angst I imagine to be the same if that makes sense. I've said it before, but they really do give me the vibes of evermore (by Taylor Swift), Cigarettes After Sex, Lana Del Rey and maybe even Mitski. Also just throwing this in but I've noticed he's started to give Shayne the "Angela..." treatment, "Shayne..." and I think that shows a development in at least friendship. Like taking out any romance, I think you really can notice how they've gotten closer in videos and have great chemistry. I've also noticed in videos recently that they mirror each other a lot or even finish each other's sentences to an extent and I think that's rlly sweet! I've mentioned this before but Chanse often twirls his hair whilst he's listening or talking to Shayne, just an observation! I've noticed he does this kinda thing (not saying it's just limited to Shayne) where he responds to Shayne with this far off look in his eyes as he twirls his hair. Honestly that may very well not be a shaynse moment and is probably Chanse just zoning out, and quite frankly he's so real for that I relate to that so hard. And I'm sorry but my shipping self...the way Chanse looks at Shayne makes me insane sometimes!! Even when neither of them are talking!! And then when Shayne is talking, the eye contact from Chanse is so FIERCE. I've said before that the formula is that Chanse gazes at Shayne and Shayne cries at Chanse's jokes...and honestly now both things apply to both of them! Shayne also very much gives the vibe that he's nervous to compliment Chanse to his face but absolutely gushes abt him to other ppl (this thought coming from Shayne bringing up Chanse AS MUCH AS HE CAN).

Sorry, this became sooo unorganised but I kinda just jotted down all my shaynse feelings/ideas! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, I found it so fun to read and so fun to reply!! Don't be afraid to do it again! (And that goes to everybody!)

Shaynse is a niche ship and I get that not everybody is gonna like it, but I do rlly appreciate shaynse nation and smoshblr in general!

Thai QL Favorite Tag Game

Oh this is going to be fun! Thank you sm @rocketturtle4 for the tag. I feel special 😄.

Anygay... I got into BL about a year ago when I stumbled upon a Bad Buddy reaction video. I watched the first 10 minutes and my brain lit up. I remember thinking - ok Orya, this is something else. You NEED to go watch this show. Now! and that's what I did. I binged BBS and rewatched it a few times until I felt I was ready to dive into the world of BL. My only other QL media experiences were western so this felt very different.

I do have to say that in addition to watching the shows - being here, reading, and taking part in the discussions around these shows has helped me process some things that I haven't had the ability to do in my day to day life. So, I have great appreciation for the genre as well as the wonderful humans that are taking part in these discussions.

And with that said - shall we...?

Favorite Thai QL - I have to say that for me it's a tie between I Told Sunset About You and 180 Degrees Longitude. Both these shows have managed to touch on some very specific queer experiences, to say very specific to me. These shows have managed to make me cry about my own experience (as opposed to just feeling for the characters). watching these shows was a therapeutic experience for me, and I will forever be grateful to them for it.

(However, I will NOT forgive the translators of 180DL for translating Mol as mom 98% of the time! So if you're watching the show take into account that almost every time the subs say mom - Pond is actually calling her by her name.)

Favorite Pairing - I think my favorite pair is First and Khaotung. They have great chemistry and it's always fun to watch them together. Even in MLC where they hardly interact, once they are together on screen they are ON. I also like the way they talk about their friendship.

Most Underrated Actor - in the wake of the most excellent La Pluie, I will have to give it to Title and Pee. They are seriously good.

Favorite Character - so many to choose from... Why are you making me choose?!

Well, if I HAVE to choose, I think I'll go with Ayan from The Eclipse. He is a menace, he is damaged, he really loves Akk, he really loves his mother, he has a purpose, he will fight for his beliefs. And I am here for all of it.

Favorite Side Character - I'm going with two characters (please don't make me choose)

Chot from Step by Step - in addition to the fact that I simply love him, I think he provides very important rep and allows a discussion about the complexities of being queer in non-queer spaces.

Ink from BBS - she is very real. She knows what's up and she will call you out on your bs. I also think that her presence in Pat and Pran's life gives them perspective. It's like she's there to bounce ideas and feelings off. Especially Pat who comes to her to check himself and his feelings (if this makes sense...)

Favorite Scene in a QL - again, I had to narrow it down to 3 and I can't choose. So 3 it is!

For the family and agenda - The group dinner at Pat and Pa's room with Ink and Pran. first of all I love that they have each other and can have this family time with people they can truly be themselves with. Then, I think the conversation they have around the table is important and offers a glimpse into P'Aof's BL-to-QL agenda.

For the beauty and feels - this! From Not Me

For the personal queer experience - Step by Step and the Jeng Intervention. Jeng sitting in a room having to listen to people discuss his sexuality like he's not even there, talking over his head, othering him and leaving him no room to offer anything to the discussion other than an apology, when actually, bottom line, they want the gossip. Say what you will about Step by Step, but this scene depicts an experience that I haven't seen addressed in other Thai bls.

Favorite Line in a QL - this is the first thing that came to mind 😄

Most Anticipated QL (& why?) - I'm gonna have to go with almost everyone and say Only Friends. Why? Because first, Jojo. Then, I think that this is going to be something very different to what we usually get to see. The fact that this show is allowed to have all the mess + partner switching + gays that are gay and want to be gay with each other? It's a win in my book!

I don't mind that they will probably get together with their 'official' partner at the end, but just the fact that they are allowed to have a queer past (or present) with other characters, that is present on screen, is very different. We get that a little bit with Allan and Wen in MLC and I'm looking forward to seeing this in Only Friends.

Healthiest Relationship in a QL - PatPran hands down. And I feel more stongly about this after the Our Skyy 2 ep. These two are together by choice and that is what will keep them together. They talk about things, they are aware of their issues, and they are willing to listen and compromise for each other. I loved that the OS2 special helps us see how their 2 years separation (on bbs 12) is not such a big deal for them. They know that they choose to be together and that it's not a temporary thing. Therefore, what are 2 years in the long run...

Most Toxic Relationship in a QL - I'm going with a non-romantic relationship here and I have to give it to Wang/sasiwimol from 180DL.

Guilty Pleasure Series - House of Stars! I LOVE this show. It is insane and unhinged and peak soap opera. The subs are only vaguely related to what the characters are saying. People are jumping in and out of each other's beds. I said it before and I'll say it again - I am here for all 4,971 episodes of multiple generations of this hot mess! 😂

Thoughts on Zombies 2:

I like that overall it kept some things from the first movie- like the animation in the beginning and telling more lore again- with the werewolves like they did with the zombies. Also the minor breaking the fourth wall moments Zed and Addison do.

The football coach running a fro-yo business in his off season. I love that for him.

Zed's impeccable timing (this is sarcastic) of trying to do a prom-posal and ending up making the entire cheer squad bus crash.

Addison telling everyone with her quality leadership skills (again, sarcasm) to remain calm, but then jumps out of the bus herself to go find Zed.

Interesting to see that silver was a weakness to the werewolves in this movie- I always like to see what people's takes on supernatural creature myths are when they do these things.

Bree and Bonzo in a relationship was very cute for me. I knew I was right to stan them in the first movie.

Also Zoey and Wynter's interaction. That was probably one of my favorite parts of the movie.

Zoey: Just wants to make a new friend and finds the weak spot in 2 seconds

If you hadn't already guessed, I added Wynter and Willa to my stan list in this movie. (every time Wynter's necklace would malfunction I was like NOO)

"Oh- I do now" 😂😂😂 I LOVE BREE SM like the first thing she saw was HELP she didn't even check to see the emoji she went straight to MY BESTIE IS IN DANGER mode

The choreography and songs still being pretty decent for me.

One For All having that line "no wristband required" actually being low-key genius bc if you think about it the zombies were able to take off their Z-bands and embraced who they really were.

Me being low-key sad actually for our main zombie himbo Zed in this because he felt like he might lose Addison and all he wanted was to take her to Prawn. Obviously he could have found another way than stealing the necklace from her, but also he was more resistant to the werewolves while Addison being the welcoming accepting character that she was invited them to the cheer squad. At times I think they both had their moments. If it weren't a Disney movie, I think that they could have handled their relationship in other ways that were more in depth, like a good heart to heart, but obviously we get our classic good ending.

Finally, I was wondering who the Great Alpha would be since it wasn't Addison but then it made me smile to myself when I realized they actually didn't need one in the end because they all came together, and I think it would be so awesome to give Willa more spotlight in a prominent role. Because she deserves it. Also because it would have been awkward if someone else took over as the alpha when Willa was already looking jealous/upset whenever Wyatt would say something like Addison's the one!

Edit: I almost forgot this but I was thinking, if Zed and Eliza were able to take off their Z-bands and didn't go after living people as their zombie selves, would the wolves ever be able to take off their necklaces? I had to take a moment when Zed asked if their necklaces kept them from "wolfing out" and Willa was like no, we wouldn't be human either, we'd die- like wait what- also Disney said the word DIE and didn't censor it or try to use a different word? This is very interesting to me. Maybe the werewolves will still have their necklaces though because Willa also said they show their true selves?? Idk. Personal brainrot.

I will be watching the third movie/Zombies 3 and I will share my thoughts on it as well when I finish it.

They're not couple in canon and I doubt they will but idc!Just look at their very first interaction...the atmosphere, the circumstance...doesn't it give off such a romantic vibe?? It's so cute!! And the couple itself is quite fascinating! Soo-Won & Lili are like two opposite poles...Soo-Won having a calm and collected personality while Lili is a bit restive & reckless. Even their preference and taste are so different but they both share a common mentality...to do smth for their ppl, try to do smth to make a difference and that makes this pair pretty interesting & cool! Sure they're not attracted to each other romantically, but they've been so open abt their thoughts, esp for Soo-Won who tends to be quite secretive but we've seen him sharing some of his personal feelings (and dilemmas) openly to her. Lili making fun of his 'love-life', blackmailing him to let her be with him in Ogi's place, Soo-Won supporting & motivating her on her supposed responsibilities and also showing his 'strict mom' mode when she's a bit too much to handle...Man I enjoyed every bit of it!! Yes I love them sm, they fit to each other so well, the best!!

Arima X Kaori

Despite having a tragic ending, what I find fascinating abt this couple is that while Arima was torn apart after his mother's death & was afraid to play piano again (mostly due to his complicated relationship with his mother), Kaori's death wasn't a barrier for him. I mean indeed it was hard for him to accept her departure, but his wonderful memories with her became an inspiration to keep on going toward his dream. (The last part when he thought Kaori's playing violin alongside with him in the competition and eventually realised that she's no more; hence breaking down with tears after finishing the play was so😭)

I've a soft corner for most of the Clamp couples bcz all of them are so wholesome and Yuki-Touya is one of the best! There're so cute together♡ I think I like them a lil bit more than the main couple of the story!

It's fun to watch both of them having a crush on Yukito at the beginning, trying their best to impress him & competing with each other lol. Then Syaoran starting to like Sakura but didn't want to acknowledge it(I absolutely love that stupid version of Syaoran). Then confession...that part was a bit dramatic but cute. For me, they're one of the best shoujo couples!!

Miyu X Kanata

Their story is full of comedies & dramas! On top of that Ru's arrival in their life made it wholesome!! Maybe it's particularly not the romantic aspect but the dramas for which I enjoyed their interactions.

I also like Tohru X Kyo from Fruits Basket, Haruhi X Tamaki from Ouran High School host club, KuroFai from TRC....Ig that's it.

sooo I started watching nfl / college semis in december and I'm actually really enjoying it? who am i? e n way all that nfl obvi got me into the mood to read some good football romance and this one definitely scratched that itch

ngl the beginning had me worried a lil cos their interest was v instant with lil to base on and after their initial disastrous talk they spent a whole month not talking, and not even looking at each other (well more like Anna was <i>trying</i> to not look at him and failing epicly, while Drew was unashamed in his admiring) - but once they got to talking / & fuckin lmao / things really started rolling, I was living for their banter, their chemistry was off the charts and I just loved D&A sm

Drew was so gone for Anna since day 1 and Anna felt the same but tried so hard to resist, she had a bunch of hang ups, but her issues made sense and seeing her stumble but get back up stronger and willing to take a chance and fight for what they had was great to see

there were so many 🥺🥺🥺 moments, when she had a fight with her mom and went to watch his practice after and he consoled her then they went and started throwing the ball around, the you destroyed me, the I saw you the first time we met and haven't seen anyone since / haven't stopped looking at you, WHEN THEY FINALLY KISSED, the this means nothing without you, the scene in the hospital after his accident, the he's my home / when I find it ill never let it go / let's make our home together - just to name a few

as for her besties.. there was a better twin and his name was George, I said what I said. he was a solid bestie, his twin not so much... she had her moments here and there, but mostly she was just wrapped up in her own shitty rs with a lil fucker and she was v much projecting her own shit / issues at Anna and her rs with Drew

can I just say, I loved the trajectory of Gray and Anna's friendship sm? when they realised they were both ride or die for their man Drew, they really came together and I loved them sm

a solid football romance, with great characters and a roller coaster of emotions (and several smutty scenes, but not in a way that hurt he story)

I really liked the side characters too, can't wait to get read about Gray Gray and his bubblegum pink car driving text bff turned love of his life story (especially considering how much of a man hoe / rs phobe he's been in here)

and don't think I forgot about Dex either👀

a great start to the series, here's hoping it continues to slay🤞🏻

PS.: can i just say, I've read and enjoyed football romances before, but now that I've actually watched games, have a greater unserstanding of the sport and a vested interest that I haven't had before.. football romance just hits different now🤌

otoh i was also attracted to her n always thought she was cool, but as we hung more these little feelings have evolved into like aksjsk. idk i guess a deeper admiration of her as a person and presence in my life!!

i am so so comfies w her n goofy n have sm fun i haven't clicked with someone like This since i met my childhood best friend. and now there r romantic thoughts ૮˶• ﻌ •˶ა but i never feel the need or much desire 2 act on them i rly am having a great time as friends and i always have opportunities 2 show all the love i have and be loved as a friend. i am feeling very whole these days and life feels rly good. i had 2 start my friend group frm scratch this year n she's the only one that's truly lasted n stuck.

Polyamorous Relationship with Aether and Ember (GN READER)

~Funnily enough, ghouls and ministry humans often agree that the best pairing you can ever have is an aether ghoul and fire ghoul. Whether this is a professional relationship, friendship, or mate bond. In every advisory group (and band) to an Emeritus there has ALWAYS been a fire ghoul and an aether ghoul.

~This is because while they are the two most powerful elements, they balance and compliment each other very well. Aether nurtures and helps fire stay on task, and fire helps aether be assertive and spontaneous. It's the perfect opposites attract deal. That's why Omega and Alpha worked so well in the band and as the head ghouls of the clergy.

~Everyone could already tell Ember and Aether had good chemistry. For those who knew them, their stage antics were just playful and a bit flirty. Ember picked on the bigger ghoul all the time to get his attention and well... that's just how Ember flirted. How did YOU know? That's how he flirted with you all the time!

~You and Ember had a habit of picking on each other for fun, light heartedly and lovingly of course. You've been friends with the fire ghoul for years, even before he was a band ghoul! You had feelings for him for years, but one day he introduced you to Aether... and you feel for the big lug, too. Aether was very sweet and gentle and cared about everyone. A part of you felt a bit guilty, like liking Aether was you cheating on Ember. Even though you weren't even a couple yet!

~Admitting your feelings for them both had been an accident! One day you were just talking about how common polyamorous groups were in ghoul culture (nobody knew how the topic came up it just did!) compared to humans. You weren't thinking of the implications when you said something along the lines of, "oh! so like if we got together that'd be normal?" There was the instant feeling of regret, but it was the best thing you could have said. Ember immediately jumped up and pointed at you, shouting at Aether. "SEE??? SEE I TOLD YOU THEY LIKED US BOTH!!"

~Your relationship is a fun one! Between you and the two ghouls you are like the perfect medium between them. Ember is the one that likes to have high energy. So it's usually him that does spontaneous fun things or wants to go out and about. Aether is the more home body who likes to plan comfortable dates for the three of you. Either way, you all have a lot of fun!

~It's incredibly funny how differently they publicly show PDA. Ember likes to boast about you two to everyone who will listen. He has no problems with hand holding, cuddling, kissing, and other flirting where everyone can see. And if anyone laughs he's the FIRST one to try and start a fight. Aether doesn't mind PDA either. In fact he loves hand holding and sitting with his partners. But he's a tad more shy with more intimate signs of affection. Aether just prefers them in closed company, so they are more special.

~Aether has always been the partner that is more mature and understanding of emotions. He's easier to talk to about feelings and how to navigate them. Ember often gets frustrated and it's harder for him to come out about how he feels. One of the best and first things you all did when becoming a polycule was sit down and figure out good strategies for communication. You had to, after a huge misunderstanding that bordered onto a fight between you and Ember. since then, you all aren't perfect, but you all work VERY hard to be open and honest. Sometimes you have to work harder because Ember can feel like you and Aether are ganging up on him.

~Ember tends to be needier than Aether, but Aether can often feel neglected as he's the 'strongest' of you three. There is a lot of give and take, but you've all found a system that works for you! the last thing you wanted was for one of you to feel like they were carrying everyone.

~All the cuddles all the time! Both ghouls LOVE to cuddle at night, it makes them feel safe. And because of Ember's natural heat when he feels safe you seldom need a blanket! Most nights you both just flop on Aether as your big over sized pillow.

~It's often funny how Ember can be the passionate romantic one, but Aether can be the typical loving domestic type. You love that you get both with your boys, but you also make sure both are pampered!

Summary: The MMA were back and this time with hosts Kim Kibum and you. They surely did this on purpose because your chemistry with each other was the best. You were best friends for years and could never stop joking. This would surely be a great event, and who would have thought that it would end this way?

Ateez was nominated for ‘best performance’ on MMA that you were hosting together with Kim Kibum from Shinee. You were close to him due to the same agency you were in. Everyone in SM Entertainment was family. It didn’t matter if it were seniors or juniors. Every Idol there had each other backs and spent time when they could.

Of course, you were not close to everyone, but you talked with everyone and laughed with one idol more than with another. For you that idol was Kibum. This was why you were excited about the MMA hosting it together with your best friend, what else could be better than that?

Well, maybe meeting your celebrity crush, but it was quite hard to do so. He was from a completely different agency. The chances you met under normal circumstances were small. And unless the band wins their category, you once again wouldn’t see him.

Kibum and you were getting ready. Your make-up artist just applied the last touches as you stood up and Kibum came in and stopped in his tracks. “Wow, you will outshine me there.” Kibum smiled and kissed your cheek and looked at you again.

You chuckled. “I could not possibly outshine you, but let’s believe that for a moment, so my ego can be pushed.” you joked.

Kibum snorted and hold out his arm. “Ready to host the best MMA the world has seen?”

“With you? Always!” you took his arm and walked out to the stage with him.

As you walked up the stage, keeping your distance from each other as SM always taught you. You bowed at a perfect 90 degrees and smiled towards the audience and cameras. “Welcome to MMA 2021, I am (Y/F/N), the actress that I am sure everyone heard of after I broke Cha Eunwoo’s heart. In a movie, but the media went crazy.” you smiled at Astro who cheered.

“And I am Kim Kibum, also known as Key. And I don’t have a great intro like this.” Kibum joked, making the audience laugh.

“You see, MMA was looking for the funniest members in SM and decided to go with us,” you said. “No offence Jeno, I know you are also funny.” you winked at Jeno who laughed.

“Maybe next year Jeno can come up here after his sunbaenim’s worked hard.” Kibum smiled.

Jeno made a thumbs up, signalising he liked that idea.

“We are a bit excited and nervous,” you admitted. “But how about starting with the first category?” you looked at the audience who cheered loudly. “That was a clear yes.” you smiled and took out the cards. “The first category is ‘best rookie group’ and the nominees are -“You stopped turning to the big screen behind you who showed the nominees: Omega X, Just B, DKB and E’Last.

You turned back to the audience. “Amazing bands we have here. I am sure the decision wasn’t easy for the fans.” you smiled.

“Oh, I am sure! But the votes have been made, and I announce the first winner of this lovely evening. The winner of the best rookie group is.” Kibum opened the envelope and smiled when he read it. “Omega X.”

You both started to clap and handed the award over to them and made space for them to hold their speech.

You bowed at them after they left the stage.

“Such a heartfelt history the guys have. Debuting in other bands first and receiving this second chance, and thankfully being successful.” Kibum explained.

“Congratulations on that. And to the other rookies, next time you can win, don’t ever give up.” you smiled.

“We will announce another category before we have our first artist to perform their new song. Who that will be, I keep to myself.” Kibum chuckled as the audience sighed loudly.

“You destroyed a few friendships now.” you joked.

Kibum laughed. “I am sorry. I will make it good again with the category ‘best dance performance’” he started.

“Let’s see our nominees for this category.” you turned towards the screen and showed dance performances from The Boyz, Ateez, Seventeen and Stray Kids. You turned back to the audience. “Thankfully, I don’t have to make that decision,” you admitted, making everyone laugh.

“You admire all of them, right?” Kibum asked.

“Yes, Seventeen was the band who made me start dancing. I used to dance to their choreographies in my small bedroom, hitting my bones multiple times.” you laughed, and so did the audience. “All the other bands also have great impacts, not only for me but for many other people out there,” you added. “I seriously wish I could give you all this award.” you smiled.

“Much appreciated!!” you heard a voice from the audience.

“Thank you, Hoshi.” you laughed as he looked perplexed. “I know your voices.” you saw the members laugh. But you also saw Ateez laugh especially Seonghwa, your celebrity crush. And it wasn’t left unnoticed by your co-host Kibum.

“So, the winner of this category is.” Kibum started and opened the envelope once again. “Ateez. Congratulations!” Kibum applauded and took a step aside. You knew very well that he did this on purpose.

Seonghwa walked up to you took the award from your hands and bowed, smiling at you. You smiled back and took a step towards Kibum, glaring at him only he could see, making him try to hold back laughter.

After Ateez gave his speech, you stepped back to the microphone starting because Kibum still hadn’t calmed down with holding back his laughter.

Ateez couldn’t believe they won. They were nominated with such amazing groups, especially their sunbaenims Seventeen who have been working hard since 2015. And yet here they were winning against them.

When they sat back down Hongjoong turned to Seonghwa leaning in and whispering, “Your love for her is written all over your face.” he leaned back and met Seonghwa’s eyes who turned to his friend.

“I can’t help it. She is just so down to earth, and her jokes are great.” Seonghwa admitted, and Hongjoong could swear Seonghwa’s ears changed the colour for a moment.

“Maybe after the show, finally ask her out? You have admired her for months, not only her acting but the person she was.” Hongjoong suggested. “How about getting to know her, the real her, the one behind the camera.”

Seonghwa looked at you on stage and then back to his friend. “What if she says no?”

“Then you can write a song about the breakup,” Hongjoong said.

“Hyung!” Yeosang whined. “You should have told him, she won’t.”

Seonghwa laughed. “It’s Hongjoong we talk about.” he turned back to Yeosang winking.

Yeosang smirked. “Hyung! You learn well from us.”

“Too well.” Hongjoong jokingly rolled his eyes.

Yunho chuckled. “Jokes aside, we all know that you want to do it. Worst case we will catch you and be there for you. But she wouldn’t say no.”

“How can you be so sure?” Seonghwa asked.

“Because you are Park Seonghwa, good looking and you have such amazing husband traits. She would be stupid to let you go.” Yunho smiled sincerely.

“All right, at the after-party, I will ask her out.” Seonghwa took a deep breath and turned back to you on stage.

At the after-party, you were standing with Kibum laughing about his jokes that got worse with more time that passed. Yet, you laughed about them, because the worse they got, the funnier it seemed to be.

Before you could also say a joke, Hongjoong from Ateez arrived and bowed to you too. “Hello, I am sorry. But may I have some advice from Kibum, sir?”

You looked between the two men. “Go ahead, then I can get a break from his awful jokes.” you laughed as you earned a glare from Kibum.

Hongjoong tried to hold back his laughter. “Don’t laugh rookie.” Kibum chuckled.

“Technically, they are no rookies,” you added, while they walked away.

“Compared to me, they are.”

“True, against a grandpa they can’t win this.” you laughed as Kibum hit you with something.

As Hongjoong and Kibum were out of eyesight, Seonghwa approached you. You were surprised about that a bit. Not that you weren’t expecting him here at the after-party, he was invited so surely, he would be here, but you were surprised about him approaching you from all the people.

“Hi.” Seonghwa smiled.

“Hi, congratulations again on the award.”

“Thank you.” he smiled shyly. “I have no idea how to start this conversation,” he admitted.

You smiled. “No worries. I appreciate you trying to talk to me.” you smiled.

“Well, you say that now. You don’t know my intentions.” Seonghwa paused. “That sounded very bad.” he laughed, and you joined him.

“Well, kind of. But I know how you meant that.” you couldn’t stop grinning and studying the man in front of you. His black hair was styled back. A black suit that made him look very elegant.

“To make it less creepy.” Seonghwa smiled. “I just wanted to ask you if you want to get a coffee one day with me.” he looked at you.

“Like a date?” you asked back, surprised.

“Like a date, yes. I always admired you, not only for your work or dance but also for how you were in front of the camera. You seem so down to earth.” Seonghwa started. “And I’d like to get to know the person behind the camera as well.”

“Well, under one condition.” you smiled, making Seonghwa intrigued.

“Which is?” Seonghwa smiled.

“When we go there, we will introduce each other again, as if we don’t know who we are,” you suggested.

“Deal. Can you give me your phone number so we can find a day?” he held his phone towards you.

You took his phone and entered your phone number and gave it back.

“Thank you, I won’t make you wait for too long, I promise.” he smiled and looked to the side seeing Hongjoong and Kibum come back.

You looked at Hongjoong, narrowing your eyes. “He didn’t ask for advice, did he Kibum?”

“No, he was talking nonsense, I have no idea what he said, I am getting too old.”

“You are old,” you added.

Kibum looked up shocked. “This generation.” he shook his head, grinning and walking away with a glass in hand.

“Sorry, otherwise he wouldn’t have asked with Kibum nearby.” Hongjoong bowed again, but this time as an apology.

“No worries, like I said. I had a break from his awful jokes.” you made Seonghwa and Hongjoong laugh.

“We go back to our guys, have a nice evening.” Hongjoong smiled and walked away.

“I message you later.” Seonghwa smiled and followed Hongjoong.

Now you could look forward to something, all day long.
