got another plot bunny that cant STOP jumping inside my head so hear me out:
its a fem lawlu with them being platonic soulmates/qpr/chaotic siblings and suddenly they were back in the past, 10 yo for luffy and 17 for law which kinda sucks for luffy bcs she hasnt grown yet (and she miss her squishy boobs) and law kinda lord over this fact for years.
law already has polar tang and 3/4 of her crew. she found shanks and the red hair pirates roaming around north blue and decided to fuck it and try to pry luffy (or her caretaker makino) denden mushi number. shanks ofc wary about this young girl w old eyes that wants luffys number (even when she said her full name) but after four days of cold war luffy contact shanks telling him she probably time travel bcs she's so tiny now and has no boobs and the last thing she remembered before coming to the past is fighting against blackbeard and her haki is nearly uncontrollable its so hard to train haki in her tiny body and did shanks know something about time travel?
law kinda look into shanks incredulous eyes and smirk and loudly said,
"mugiwara-ya, stop talking too much."
luffy yelled "TORAO" so loud then laugh and cry nearly hysterical and telling her about "Ace" and "Dadan" and "Foosha" and "no boobs" while the rest of red hair and heart pirates watch the (crazy) girl only hummed and said with zero sympathy,
"this is your fault."
"IT'S NOT!"
law then calmly told luffy her denden number (and ask the bartender, makino, to write it down) and tell her fellow time traveler that law will set sail to east blue immediately to 'reinforce our alliance and to make a vague plans bcs i DONT want to get shot seven times again'.
("That one is definitely not my fault!"
"Debatable.")
shanks watch this interaction with solemn eyes and after exchaning glance w benn decided to follow law and went to dawn island too bcs obv luffy already became a great pirate so the promise is already fulfilled and law, used to deal w crazy impulsive captain, just nodded and the two crew set sail.
in dawn, luffy is trying to convince ace that she indeed time traveled while ace (and makino) warily glance at each other in confusion, want to believe luffy (bcs she's a shitty liar) but also time travel???
then a few weeks later luffy ran down from dadan's place to foosha and saw two distinctive ships sailing towards foosha. she tackled law who already on polar tang's deck and happily wave to the hearts and called them by names. shanks, who spent a LOT of his time getting to know his little sister's ally esp their elusive D captain, watch the two D's interaction with amusement. then the crew walk towards party bar to say hello to makino and see ace.
in the bar tho is when law and luffy reinforce their alliance. it kinda goes like this:
"Monkey D. Luffy."
"Trafalgar D. Water Law!"
"If you want to survive in the New World, there are only two ways to go about it. Either you swear allegiance to one of the Yonkou... or you do battle with them."
luffy laugh at the familiar words. law only smirks in response.
"You don't seem like the kind of girl who would subordinate herself to another pirate."
"Shishishi, that's right! I want to be captain!"
the two crew around them watch with rapt attention, while ace gawked at the two girls.
"Then form an alliance with us! If you and I work together, we may just be able to pull this off... I have a plan to take down one of the Yonkou."
the heart pirates stare at their captain in horror while the red hair pirates didn't know what to think about the conversation. shanks watch the interaction with full attention.
"Make it two Yonkou and a few Warlord and we have a deal!"
the two girls, one being only 10 years old while the other is still a teenager, look at each other with crazy, wild grin full of anticipation of being able to create chaos around the world.
"Deal. But this time I will be the one who kill Kaido."
"No way! I want to fight him again!"
"Don't be selfish, Luffy-ya."
the bicker w each other while ace looks like he nearly got a heart attack. meanwhile shanks laugh and call for a party to celebrate the alliance. luffy then spend the day and night trying to tell stories without too much spoiler for the future, while law trying to plan shits.
when they separate a few weeks later, law told luffy she (and the hearts) are going to dismantle Germa 66 and luffy isnt allowed to join them. the younger girl throw some tantrum ("Not fair, Torao! I want to beat Sanji's shitty family too!" "Then hurry and grow up already, your Haki's control is still shitty." "IT'S NOT!")
luffy let it out that sabo is still alive but has amnesia to ace and he swore to hit his twin hard enough in the head as to returning his memories. meanwhile shanks decided to get to know law more and bothered the girl a lot, while law thinking between hit that man in the face or hit on him and see whether the red hair man freaked out or not (he kinda did).
for the next four years, law kinda drift around north and east blue, wreaking havoc around the marine base and dismantled a lot of underground organization. the hearts then enter the grand line around the time ace set sail from dawn island (luffy called him to complain about "how can torao sail to grand line first I WANT TOO" "you're still a shrimp. three more years." "NO") and wreaking havoc (again) so her bounty reach 300M first. she called luffy to gloat ofc.
law got the yami yami no mi first, but teach still betrayed whitebeard and trying to kill thatch and ace but ace, already being warned by luffy and law, managed to save thatch. but he somehow still got caught by the marine and slated to be executed in marineford again. law told luffy maybe this is a fix point in every timeline.
the straw hat still got separated bcs luffy knew her crew needed the training, but she managed to NOT separate from them and reunited w law in sabaody. they then tried to save ace at impel down first, still didnt get there in time but manage to create chaos and set a few hundred prisoners free, then set sail to marineford to save ace.
law and luffy both fought on the war, manage to save ace but luffy somehow still got hurt bcs of akainu, law manage to save luffys life (ofc), and the two D girls gain the respect from whitebeard and his crew. shanks then join them to let them know that kaido is pissed, and to ask them about their next plan.
luffy wants to train w rayleigh or alone again, law decided to enter new world first and gaining more info, they will reunite in punk hazard in two years to then defeat doflamingo and set sails to wano and defeat kaido.
the only person from wb pirates who didnt gawked in astonishment is whitebeard bcs he only laugh, while marco remarks that the two girls are def Ds.
the rest is kinda history lol.
also they both like to tease each other about their respective type of men.
luffy to law: "still want to bang shanks, torao? he's older enough for you, right? i know u like them mean and old."
law to luffy: "still cant talk in front of your crush, mugiwara-ya? i thought you're the Pirate King, he's only the first mate of whitebeard."
did the two girls manage to get the guy of their dream???? probably.

OOOOOO Bennett trying to confess to Reader but every time, his bad luck ruins it (maybe gets some help from Razor?)
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1,334
@ibby-miyoshi-nerd @monster-scribe-tya
Why why why why why???
Was the question he had to ask himself on repeat. Bennett, the world’s unluckiest boy, was falling. Both literally and romantically. He asked that one word question so many times, at each failed attempt to confess. So he decided to consult one of his best friends. Razor himself.
Bennett wasted no time in venting about his struggles. “Dude it’s so unfair! The universe hates me! I keep trying to confess to y/n but something always goes wrong!” He flopped down, but slipped even further than planned, only further proving his point when his head hit a rock.
“Confess? Confess what? Have you done wrongs by y/n?” His head was tilted in confusion, he didn’t think it was in Bennett’s character to do anything to harm another. Maybe it was accidental though…maybe something had happened to his friend. “Is y/n okay?”
Bennett sighed, and looked over to Razor. “They’re…they’re perfect.” He clutched his hands over his chest with a big smile on his face. Though he realized how odd this might sound to Razor. “I…like y/n. Like a lot.” He opened one eye to see if Razor was comprehending. He wasn’t.
“As in…I want to hold their hand. Take them wherever in Teyvat they want to go. Be…by their side.” He sighed again, and used his hands to mess up his own hair in frustration. “Why are feelings so difficult?”
“So you wish to be their mate.” Razor looked as if he figured out a difficult puzzle, but opposingly, Bennett looked so red he might combust at any moment.
He scrambled up, and waved his hands in front of him. “N-no! Don’t say that! It just…sounds weird.” He set his arms down, and a cloud of rain began to fall. Typical. “I want to be…their boyfriend. Or maybe even just go on a date to see if they like me back!”
Razor then came up with a plan. Not that Bennett could tell. “I come back. You stay. Must…talk to wolves. For advice.” It was far from subtle, but Bennett didn’t know that. He was so lost in his feelings that he rolled over onto his side and just laid in the mud. He would get sick like that…but chances are he’d get sick even on a beautiful sunny day.
Razor ran from his den to Mondstat, which admittedly wasn’t that far. He did notice that the sun shined only a few paces towards the city. Weird. It was raining so much at his den. He made a mental note to silently blame Bennett and his bad mood.
Razor sniffed the air, and found you at the cat's tail. He despised the place, but went in anyways. He located you quickly, and grabbed your arm. “Friend. Come. Bennett sad.” He didn’t waste any time, and began dragging you to his den.
“Bennett’s sad?” Was all you needed to hear. You cared for him…he was a silly boy. He always made you laugh. It was rare for him to be sad. But how come Razor traveled all this way just to tell you this?
He let go of your arm when he knew you were following, and he nodded. “Yes. Sad. You stay back…” He whispered once you were approaching the big swarm of rain, probably indicating Bennett was there. “Just sit. Listen.”
He ushered you behind one of the trees, and while confused…you obeyed. You had no idea what Razor was trying to prove, but you trusted him. He knew Bennett well, if silently listening to their conversation could help him somehow, then you’d do it. In a heartbeat.
Razor approached Bennett, laying on the ground in the mud. He knelt down and poked him, confirming he was alive. “Friend. Up. You get sick.” He nudged him once more, and he stirred.
“Leave me in the mud.” It was almost funny, but you knew in his tone and body language that something was wrong. You wanted to run out from behind the tree to comfort him, but you had to see this out before jumping in. Who knows…maybe he didn’t want you to help him.
“Why sad?” Razor asked, and glanced over at you as he helped Bennett stand, Razor facing you and Bennett’s back to you.
Bennett groaned loudly, and fell limp in Razor’s arms. “You know why! I just wanna be with them…” He eventually stood fully, and looked up at the sky, towards the rain clouds that were only growing darker.
Who was ‘them’? Did he…have a crush? The way he said it made it sound romantic. How could you try and pursue him when he had someone else on his mind? It made you want to run away from here.
“I tried asking them out by standing on a chair to make myself look bigger and stronger, but I fell flat on my face!” Wait a second…that sounded familiar. “Then when we were watching the thunderstorm I turned to kiss them and I got struck by lightning!” This didn’t just sound familiar…it was familiar. These are scenarios that happened between the two of you.
“Then I tried to skip the theatrics and take them to Liyue but I got lost and couldn’t find them!” Now you’re certain. The person he liked…was you. These were supposed to be…confessions?
You hid behind the tree so Razor couldn’t see your beet red face, and covered your hand with your mouth. He liked you! He really liked you! After all this time of thinking he was oblivious to the concept of romantic love, it turned out he was trying to be with you the whole time.
“Y/n. Show.” Razor spoke, and Bennett looked confused when you circled the tree to face him. His face went pale first, and then pink…then a deep shade of red. He had been caught.
“W-w-w-w-wait! This isn’t how you were supposed to find out!” He ran up to you, looking frazzled, and spoke quickly, “How did you know where I was? Were you li-”
“Bennett.” You spoke, trying to interrupt his rant. It didn’t work.
“-stening the whole time? Oh gods what did I even say? Was it embarass-”
“Bennet.”
“-ing? What have I done! I probably just ruined our friendship, I’m so-”
“BENNETT!” If speaking in a normal tone wouldn’t work, you’d have to talk over him. Which is exactly what you did, and even chuckled a bit when he went silent mid-sentence.
“I like you too.” It was simple, but effective. All three parties went silent. Wait three…? Where did Razor go? He must have left to give the two of you space…
“Y-You do?” He whimpered, almost as if he was scared this was a prank of some kind. He looked away from you, but then still found himself too embarrassed. He covered his face with both hands.
If he wasn’t going to be confident in this, you would have to be. Although the redness of your face, and uncertainty in your eyes told a different story.
You took both of his hands, and carefully removed them from his face. When he looked straight at you, he closed his eyes tightly. He was…so scared of rejection. This poor boy…who you were falling for didn’t think he deserved your love. You would have to prove him wrong.
“Really. I mean it.” And you leaned forward, kissing the bridge of his nose, of which the bandaid had fallen off long ago.
He was the first to notice that the rain had stopped. And a small beam of light came through, hitting the trees above your heads. For the first time in a while…things were looking up. He was filled with hope.
Hope that you meant it. Hope that you won't leave him. Hope…that he could continue to fall in love with you. He was glad that he had you, and you mirrored that feeling.
“To the ‘bright’ future ahead of us.” He said, looking up at the beautiful sky.

Halloween Book Club (Halloween Exchange '23)
Tumblr media
Law frowned an eyebrow twitching as he stared as his usual book club members dressed up in costumes, in celebration for Halloween. He wasn’t one that hated celebrating Halloween, in fact it was one of the few holidays he enjoyed. But he only enjoyed the horror part of Halloween. The bloody costumes, the horror movies, the haunted house. He loved anything scary which is why he never interacted in the cutesy side of Halloween.
“Why aren’t you dressed?” Chopper huffed a bit annoyed with Law arriving late and without a costume. He had texted everyone to arrive in costume earlier this week. He had a whole plan of arriving at Luffy’s party dressed as Beauty and the Beast characters. It seemed like everyone had followed the theme but Law and Benn, the newest member in their book club.
Benn chuckled a bit, he was the newest member of the book club. He half-assed his costume wearing a yellow shirt and pants with the word ‘mustard’ on it. He played with the toothpick between his lips. He got the message about costumes, but the theme wouldn’t fit with the costume he had already preplanned with a friend.
Hongo couldn’t chuckle a bit too when Law glared at Benn, before raising an eyebrow confused at his costume choice. “You aren’t very good at following directions,” he joked with the young boy before him, “But you couldn’t work with the government for long did you,”
He loved teasing the young mafia leader he was so sensitive to some light teasing. Law’s eyes traveled to Hongo and raised an eyebrow at the older doctor dressed like Cogsworth putting more effort into the costume than what was expected of him. “Young Chopper had a theme and you failed him,” he teased Law seeing the boy’s eyebrow twitch in annoyance.
“I didn’t feel like dressing up,” he growled. He got the text but figured everyone felt like it would be too much work and Robin would have helped him change his mind. He glared at the dark-haired woman who smiled gently at him the book they had been reading open in her hand. She was dressed like the ever-beautiful ‘Bella’. She was the perfect Bella for Chopper, who was her Beast her Prince Charming.
“I thought we were here to discuss the book,” he had no intention of heading to the Straw hats party. Strawhat-Ya would harass him and bother him. It would be a cute type of Halloween party with cute costumes, silly scares, and cheap decorations. All the things he didn’t care about. He wanted to head home after all this and cruel up with a crew and watch a good slasher.
“You don’t want to go to the party?” the reindeer asked glancing at Law. He gave Law the puppy eyes his large round eyes being so difficult to say no to. He had to say no. He had plans.
“No,” he growled a little rougher than he meant to be. He was trying not to focus on how cute Chopper looked.
He took his seat next to Robin, and opened the book notes were scribbled all over the book. Everything thought he had in this book. He had such enjoyment in this book, it was a refreshing book to read other than his medical science book. But being a nerd, he found himself questioning a lot of the fantasy elements of the book. He ignored how Robin’s large yellow dress spilled to his side of the table he just wanted to discuss the book?
How did this world function? How large was the world and what was the gravitational pull if the world had two moons? What sort of magic did they have when it came to healing? What about diseases? If Robert (The Main Character in this story adventure) fell from the highest cliff, was magic the reason he didn’t have many wounds? What method did they use to see if he had internal bleeding?
“I wouldn’t ask him Chopper,” Marco said he had been sitting quietly next to Law his book open scribbled with notes. But more of questioning the character’s motivation. And how to improve the world economy along with where he felt it could improve. Of course, there are questions about medicine and disease. Being a doctor, he and Law had similar thoughts. He was dressed as Lumiere, with flames running constantly on top of his head thanks to his Devil Fruit Power.
Law frowned hoping the asshole wouldn’t burn the library down, but knowing he was too careful with it to even be a possibility.
“Law doesn’t know how to have fun,” Hongo said teasing Law.
Chopper tilted his head as he walked to his seat next to Robin, the long tailcoat from his coat collecting dust from the table. Robin helped the little reindeer to his seat, a stack of books on his chair so he was sitting at eye level with the rest of the group. His book was just doodled on with a few questions he wanted answered but relating to the story.
“I have my own type of fun, going to a large party run by the Straw Hat isn’t fun,” he didn’t want to imagine the trouble Luffy would get him into. It was bad enough Luffy dragged him to what he calls the ‘doughnut’ incident the less said about that the better. Again, he felt like curling up with his own crew and watching horror movies.
“But we would love for you to join,” Chopper said. “Luffy wouldn’t bother you…much,” he mumbled the last part. He knew Luffy, his captain, would attach himself to Law and not leave him alone for the rest of the night.
Robin couldn’t help but chuckle at the comment Chopper was scratching his head confused. She glanced at red cheeks of Law and smiled, she couldn’t confirm anything, but it could be a small crush. But she was just basing everything on a small hunch. But she wanted to see how everything played out before she could help lead the two in the right direction.
“I think Law should just join us for a small bit,” she said hating to see the small reindeer upset. She had found the idea charming and cute and might have been the mastermind behind the group costume idea by placing little hints and clues around Chopper's room and work area. In truth, she loved the Bella dress, and seeing Chopper play as her Prince Charming was a plus. She laughed a bit, “We can make a deal,”
Law sat quietly book open arms crossed over his chest and grumbling but he raised an eyebrow at the suggestion. He wasn’t against deals and the sooner they worked this deal out the sooner he could head back home.
“Sit with us for half an hour, and you can choose the next book we read,” she said. There had been a book on his radar for a while, it was too gruesome of a book to even consider reading for book club. But it is nice shutting one’s brain every once in a while and enjoying a good slasher book.
“Fine,” Law grumbled. He was too tired to argue anymore, the group had focused too much on his dislike of parties he would rather go for a bit and end leave just as quickly. And seeing as they weren’t arguing about him wearing a costume as well there was no further reason.
They spent the rest of the afternoon talking about the book. Benn finds the character charming but questions why he took life too seriously when it came to the battles. He also found himself questioning the romantic relationship between the Male Lead and his best friend despite the story having no romantic relationship.
Marco on the other hand was more curious if the hero’s adventure would help change the world. How his battles affected the social and economic structure. While he was also healing from his past pains he wanted to see where the story ended and was one that also had to see where the trilogy of books would lead too.
Everyone had their own opinion talking, and every once in a while the group of friends would stop talking to satisfy a group of friends who wanted to take a photo with the group enjoying how spot on, they were with their theme. Law sitting in the background grumbling. He didn’t say much throughout the afternoon. He was still pouting that he had to go to the party.
“Are you ready to go?” Chopper asked Law as they were packing up. He knew if he didn’t his eyes on Law during this time, he would find a way to sneak away. Law’s eyes narrowed before giving a sigh in defeat. He couldn’t win tonight, “Yeah,” he said.
Shanks was waiting for Benn at the entrance of the library dressed up almost the same but instead of yellow he wore red matching his red hair and the word Ketchup written on his chest. “You know Luffy is waiting for you?” he told Law giving a gentle wink. He walked away with his friend.
Law stood at the door, his cheeks red he wanted to say something to the Red-Haired mafia leader but knew better. He glanced away ignoring how his heart rate increased at the damn Straw Hat waiting for him. Robin stood behind Law she noticed the small twitch in the tattooed man's hand. Or how his ears were turning red.  She might help the two anyway, she chuckled.

Throne Chapter 17
Throne [Archive of Our Own, FanFiction.Net]
Characters:  Original Female Character, Red Haired Shanks, Benn Beckman, Lucky Roo, Yasopp,
***
“I can be very disarming.”
“Looks like you’ve been disarmed,” I jabbed, not looking up at him.
Benn let out a loud laugh at that.
Shanks grinned. “You wound me.”
“Clearly, I’m not the only one.”
Hello people. So if you don’t know, what’s going on here then the simple version is that this a Shanks x OC fic.
If you follow me, and the One Piece stuff I write, then you’ve probably heard me talk about this fic. Hey look it’s finally here.
***
Chapter 17
"It's totally cheating!" Shanks said, looking at me like he couldn't believe the words coming out of my mouth.
 "It's only cheating if I use it during competition," I argued before taking a bite out of my BLT. "I used it after. Plus, no one ever specified that there was a no devil fruit rule."
 We were back at the diner, eating lunch because two days of breakfast in a row was an unachievable feat for Shanks by his own admission.
 "No devil fruit goes without saying.”
 I rolled my eye, as he continued.
 “It influences your state of mind. You make different decisions. You entered a drinking competition knowing there would be no downside."
 "But my devil fruit has a downside.”
 The night before, I had successfully drunk most of Shanks’s crew under the table, including both Luck and Yasopp. And I had done so 100% on my merit, despite current protests.
 I was the last one standing… at an angle, but still standing. Luck was slumped on the table, and Yasopp had fallen back on the floor. Most of the officers had chosen not to participate but instead to let me obliterate the rest of the crew, so the competition wasn't the stiffest, but I still won.
 The controversy arose afterward. I had gone outside, Shanks coming with ‘cause he most certainly thought I was going to puke or pass out in the bushes, probably both. Instead, I parked my ass down on the step, transformed into full Balor, and let the demon burn the alcohol out of my system. I was sober within fifteen minutes.
 He nodded slowly, bringing his fork to his mouth and taking a bite. After taking a second to pretend to mull it over, he said, "Eliza, my dear, you know that I know that there's no way you're buying your own bullshit right now."
 I let out an ugly snort, bursting into laughter. "I'll have it better rehearsed before I see the others. And since when are pirates so hung up on rules?"
 "They’re going to want a rematch."
 "You know who to put your money on."
 Shanks grinned, a devilish glint in his eyes. "What if I want to compete next time?"
 "Then I forfeit," I shrugged. "I've dodged death several times, and I'll be damned if the thing that actually kills me is a drinking contest."
 At my words, I noticed that Shanks’s expression briefly fell.
 I sighed, setting my sandwich down and gesturing for Shanks to get on with it.
 "What?" he asked, playing dumb.
 "I know you're not stupid."
 "I don't think your favorite shares that sentiment."
 "Trust me, it would be easier if you were dumb as you look."
 "You like the way I look," he argued.
 I looked at him expectantly.
 "Can I ask you something that you probably don’t want to answer?”
 My lips twitched as I thought back to Shanks sitting at my tiny kitchen table as I asked him that exact same thing. "You mean aside from that?"
 "Aside from that," he said, smiling warmly. His expression became more neutral. It was a controlled expression. Clearly, not trying to make light of whatever he was planning on asking but making a point not to be so overly concerned as to set me off in any way. "Tel shot you in the face, didn't he?"
 I leaned back against the back of the booth.
 "Can you believe he still almost missed? So nervous. With a debilitated target at point-blank range and almost misses. Fuck, all that, and I didn't even die."
 "Almost?"
 "Almost," I confirmed, reaching into my pocket to pull out my safety case.
 I pulled the lower lid of my right eye with my index finger, allowing my glass eye to slide out just enough for me to grab it and pull it the rest of the way. I quickly placed it in its case and shoved it in my pocket.
 "So much for 'right between the eyes, huh?'" I asked.
 "He got the 'right' part down," Shanks said.
 I snorted out a laugh, feeling myself relax again. I picked up a fry and popped it into my mouth.
 “I don’t remember the initial pain,” I said. “My guess is the shock kept me from feeling much of anything. The adrenaline was enough for me to transform and get the hell out of there.”
 It got blurry from that point. "I remember collapsing in the back of the tavern, where Rayne called Gene, who came over and did first aid. Shit. Getting shot was the easy part. Two old bats fighting over whether to yank your eye out. That was fucking brutal. Fortunately, I passed out. Then I woke up in a fucking cave missing my eye."
 "And Tel?"
 If any of my brothers had seen me, it would've been game over for the entire island, save for Rayne and Gene. And admittedly, there were a few days when I first woke back up where I was hurting and feeling sorry for myself in the goddamn dark that I just sat there and thought, 'Good.' If my brothers came through and wrecked everyone's shit, I wasn't going to do a damn thing to stop them.
 I would manage wherever they shipped me off to next. I wasn’t going to be happy about it, but I could adjust.
 But then I started to get restless and agitated.
 Tel and the others tore through the tavern, the store, and both Rayne and Gene’s homes, trying to find me, trying to find my body. They even tried to find Rayne’s hideout, only to be disappointed when she took them to a decoy filled with fancy bottles of cheap booze.
 I had put my actual life on the line to keep everyone safe, and those fuckers, Tel, had the audacity to shoot me while I was down. And they were going to win. They were going to hell, but I would be shipped off at the end of the day, which is what they wanted from the beginning. A new start on another island, making myself smaller for everyone else's comfort.
 After their days of searching, they finally gave up. They never believed her or Gene, but they couldn’t find me, and after a few days, I think they realized that I would probably be healed up to fight back if they did find me. So, they stopped their searches and reported to the rest of the village that I was no more.
 A week later, under the cover of night, I slipped back to the tavern into my trashed apartment.
 As I sorted through all my shit, I grabbed Shank's journal leafing through it. The worn pages comforted me as I flipped through his scribbled trials and shenanigans.
 Standing amid all my things strewn about, I made up my mind. I still had a few weeks before one of my idiot brothers arrived.
 Rayne figured out immediately what I was thinking. I thought she might try to talk me out of it, but instead, she called Gene over, and together, they started my numerous planning sessions, which were more like cram school: geography, weather, navigation, and sailing.
 In the back of my mind, hidden behind the tidal waves of information being dumped on me, another plot was steadily coming together.
 I put it into effect in the last two weeks leading up to my departure. It was hard trying to instill what decades of paranoia felt like within two weeks, but I made do.
 I started small with the feeling of being watched, lurking around corners and windows like a fucking idiot.
 Then I got bolder. Things would end up lost, only to reappear right where he left them when he asked someone else about them. Items he was sure were in his house ended up at his office. Things that had been thrown out were back where they started over and over and over again.
 I watched delightfully as the paranoia took root in Tel. He knew something was up. And I was sure he thought it was me. But he didn’t have proof. He didn’t have proof it wasn’t either. Everyone knew he had shot me. They also knew I had run off, but where and how I ended up remained unknown.
 But they had chosen to believe that I was dead or at least that I had been run off. I had heard from Rayne how they had celebrated in the middle of town. She had closed the tavern out of protest and scolded them for their callousness, reminding them that their celebration came as she and Gene were in mourning.
 I applauded her performance.
 The others, either genuinely delusional or, more likely, unwilling to face the reality that I was alive and that I was out there, brushed Tel off, telling him that it was just that ‘protector instinct’ that had him on the edge.
 By the end of the second week, he was constantly looking over his shoulder, so it didn’t take much to get him out of the house. With a few broken branches and the brushing of leaves, he was on the chase, following me deeper into the jungle, beyond the village's limits, far from his cronies, far from anyone who could hear him.
 And it was only after I went silent, as I hid from my perch in the trees and Tel was surrounded by nothing but silence, that he realized what he'd done, where he was, that he was completely and totally alone for the first time in years.
 I waited it out, letting him survey his surroundings and settle his nerves as the more he looked, the more he realized nothing was amiss.
 I'm sure he went through all of the usual thoughts. ‘There's nothing there. I can't believe I did that. I must be going insane.’ Just as I saw him shake his head and turn to return the way he came, I dropped, finally revealing myself.
 At the time, I hadn't planned to hurt him, at least not seriously. Maybe I'd finally give him that kick in the ass that he deserved. I just wanted to give him a glimpse of the hell that he had put me through.
 But then he looked right at me, both eyes narrowing in on the patch that had on to protect my still healing eye socket, and he still managed to muster up the arrogance to put his nose up at me and gloat about shooting me.
 I had protected his village. I had protected his business. I had protected his home. I had protected his neighbors. I had protected him. I protected his wife. I had protected his children.
 And he, who only had the balls to attack me after I had already gotten my ass kicked by pirates who would’ve overrun the village, had the nerve to call my survival a fluke and promise to finish me off.
 That pushed me over the edge. "When Shanks was here, he told you that the only reason he left you alive was because you were more a nuisance to me dead than alive. But I don't think that's true anymore."
 I didn’t actually kill him. I almost did. I thought about it.
 I beat him within an inch of his life. And there was nothing that he could do about it. If I had time and didn’t know that Gene and Rayne were waiting to see me off, I would’ve kept at it for hours.
 Instead, after he was far too brutalized to fight back, I grabbed him by his broken and bloody jaw to force him to look at me, hand slowly rising up his face, thumb brushing over his cheek underneath his right eye socket.
 “Something to remember me by,” I had said, letting out a wave of conqueror’s haki.
 The night I left, as I sailed away from Aurora after having left Tel’s battered body in the middle of town, I thought about the look on his face before I plunged my thumb into his eye socket. There was the same raw fear in his eyes that had been there when Shanks had overwhelmed and overpowered him with haki alone.
 Shanks leaned back on his side of the booth. The movement pulled me out of my own memories. He looked content, with a proud smile on his face. “Good.”
 I shook my head. Only Shanks would beam with pride after hearing that I nearly killed a man and did fully rip his eye out with my bare hands. “You’re unhinged.”
 “I’m endeared.”
 I briefly thought of the night the Red-Haired crew left as I rowed Shanks back to the ship. “You shouldn’t be.”
 “I shouldn’t be,” he agreed, quoting me back at myself.
 “But I’m happy that you are.”
 Shanks’s grin got wider, and I couldn’t help but mirror it.
 “We’re both fucking unhinged.”

Gold Event: Shanks
Shanks x (fem) reader
Warnings: Shanks touching your fluffy tail, gambling, 18+, Pet play, dirty talk, breeding kink
One lucky bunny.
The golden casino on Gran Tesuro’s ship was full with people, ranging from civilians to Marines and even pirates.
Even though the casino was brimming with people a sexy waitress was still having trouble making tips, something she desperately needed as she had debt that needed to paid to the man who ran the Gran Tesuro. As of right now she only half of what was required and not a lot of time, two weeks to be exact.
“There you are! I found you.”
Looking to her right she saw a rather tall man approach her with a charming smile on his face with his red hair that (Name) would never forget. Feeling her pulse race she wanted to fix her bunny ears that were on top of her head too look sexier for the tall and handsome pirate, Nearly dropping the drinks that she was holding on a round tray from seeing the handsome pirate again from yesterday.
“Hey, Shanks. Do you need a drink?”
“I could always use a drink. Say, why don’t you join me and my friends for a bit.”
Shanks simply took the whole tray away from (Name) surprising her at first but she had to decline as she was still on the job and time was precious at the moment. Yet Shanks insisted while promising to give her a really good tip if she came along and this is what caught (Name)’s interest, and in little to no time she was accompanying Shanks nearly all over the casino.
From games to simply eating the two had a fun time in each other’s company so much so that (Name) forgot she was at work and all the worries about her debt. Especially after meeting Shanks crew which all took a fancy to her seeing as she was so sexy in her sexy bunny costume that the casino made all the waitresses wear, the crew called her their lucky bunny since they had been winning all day.
Shanks especially.
Before Shanks would place a bet he would gently rub either (Name)’s bunny ears or her fluffy tail, the first few times Shanks rubbed her fluffy tail it caught her off guard but she didn’t complain. Especially when Shanks called her “My lucky bunny.” And for the rest of the night she believed the man. So much so she had to confess to him her secret.
“You owe how much?!”
“I owe..well..I owe 100 million berries.. but I only have ..well I don’t have much.”
The two were sitting in a lounge area on a comfortable red sofa with gold trimmings, Shanks chuckled a bit and tickled (Name) underneath her chin flustering her a bit.
“You owe quite a bit of money. But I can help since you’re my lucky bunny.”
“You’re going to pay off my debt-Hey! Where are you going?”
“To have a talk with Tesoro, what do you think?”
(Name) could feel her jaw go slack as she caught up with Shanks to reconsider his straight forward plan but Shanks denied her every time saying “What’s the harm in talking.” And then proceeded to give her his most charming smile. In truth it worked because before (Name) knew it Shanks had left her at the casino with his crew.
A few hours had went by as the casino had just closed as (Name) was talking outside with a familiar pirate crew until their captain finally returned. Benn was actually the first to speak.
“What did he say boss?”
“Aw, can you believe it? Man said 100 million berries or no deal. Lame, I offered to give him alcohol and he refused. Oh well, I’ll try again tomorrow.”
“And what if he turns you down tomorrow too?”
“Hopefully he doesn’t. I’ll try to make a more appeasing offer tomorrow.”
Shanks’s crew had an idea where this was going and simply nodded their heads and headed back to their hotel, followed by Shanks and (Name). Two days went by and it ended the same way. On the third day of trying Shanks was getting irritated by it all.
It wasn’t until later that night as (Name) was serving people that a familiar person came in with his usual charming smile that made (Name)’s pulse race, one would think she would be used to it.
“Hey! You ready to go?”
“Go? Go where?”
“Out to sea of course. Tesuro decided to let you go.”
Once those words left Shanks lips (Name) was overwhelmed with joy not wasting time to hug Shanks tightly with her arms around his neck and one not to waste an opportunity Shanks wrapped his arm around (Name)’s waist and carried her out the casino, ignoring her bosses yells.
“I can’t believe it.”
(Name) had her hands over her mouth with a surprised look on her face as she was now on the Red Force with a pirate that was partying after just coming back from a party in the casino. While saying farewell to the golden ship as a drink was placed in her hand by the red haired pirate. Shanks wanted to drink with his sexy bunny but instead was bombarded with questions on how he managed to set her free. In response, Shanks only chuckled in response as wrapped his arm around (Name)’s shoulders.
“Don’t worry, we just had a talk. That’s all. Now can we talk, preferably in my cabin.”
While Shanks’s crew were partying and having a good time their captain was having talk with (Name) in his cabin.
In truth, it was Shanks who was doing the talking while (Name) too busy whimpering and moaning on his thick cock in a reverse cow girl position while Shanks thrusted his hips upwards as his cock was deep inside (Name)’s wet cunt while massaging her breast, each time he would thrust his hips his cock that was deep inside his sexy bunny would hit her g-spot making her orgasm draw near. Listening to her shamelessly moan on his cock while he enjoyed how amazing she felt almost made the red hair pirate give up his little secret on how he paid off her debt.
Almost.
“You want to be mine? I can treat you better you know.”
Whispering in (Name)’s ear a smirk came to him as he then stopped tending to (Name)’s breast and proceeded to grab her chin making her lean back into Shanks more which in turn made his cock slide deeper inside her and being a tease that he was Shanks stopped moving completely. A taunting smirk now came to his lips when he heard her plea for more, shamelessly pleading for more.
“I need a answer. Do you want to be mine or not?”
“Of course-I want to be yours! I’ll be yours-whatever you want me to be.”
Shanks moaned a bit as his grip on her chin tightened and his cock twitched a few times in excitement. Shanks could feel her grind on him wanting that release more than anything but being a tease he refused even when she was pleading with all she had, only to be met with a chuckle.
“Will you be my sweet bunny? Let me take care of you?”
“Yes-yes, use me. I’ll be your little cum bunny.”
All restraint left Shanks right then and there as he mercilessly fucked (Name) in his cabin, not caring if his crew members heard. As a matter of fact Shanks wanted them to hear so everyone knew who (Name) was with now. Ever since the day the two met he wanted nothing more than to be as deep inside her and to fuck her like he was now.
“Then I’ll pump you full of my cum and you can have my children while you’re at it.”
Soon enough Shanks had (Name) on the bed on her knees with her hands behind her back as Shanks grabbed both her arms and kept his animalistic pace up, his dirty talk filled the cabin followed by (Name)’s whimpers as the only the she cared about was being Shanks cum bunny.
“Tell your master how much you like it-how bad you want me to cum inside you.”
“I love it-I love it-fuck-cum inside me-please-“
(Name)’s words were broken up by her whimpers as Shanks kept relentlessly fucking her wet and needy cunt, which only fueled Shanks desire to cum inside her more. In truth, it was something Shanks wouldn’t consider but seeing her at the casino wearing her sexy bunny costume he just had to have her and as the days went by his thoughts became more lewd. A little scream left (Name)’s throat as she felt Shanks’s grip on her arms tighten more, it wasn’t on purpose as Shanks was also nearing his end. Yet he didn’t forget to apologize, a quick “sorry” was all he could muster before both reached their orgasm.
Gaining a euphoric high of sorts as Shanks tilted his head back while giving a sigh of relief and kept to his word as his cock twitched excitedly filling (Name)’s cunt to the brim as her whole body did a shiver as she moaned again when Shanks did a few more thrusts before sliding out his cock and patting (Name)’s head as she was catching her breath.
“You did well my lucky bunny.”
“Thank you sir.”
While catching her breath and enjoying the after math of one of the orgasm she received she heard Shanks say “I know you guys heard. You guys better not pick on her in the morning.” Shanks knew his crew was listening behind the door the whole time but he didn’t care all he wanted to do was give his lucky bunny a bath, have a drink and go to sleep.
Then start things back up in the morning.

I almost forgot about that fanfic appreciation week, but I wanted to at least do something for it! So here's a rec list for some of my favorite fics in the one piece fandom!
This list is not at all exhaustive btw (there's still loads of other fics in the fandom that I love), so please don't feel bad if you weren't included! Also if anyone wants more recommendations from me, you can check out my bookmarks on my ao3!
Who Knows (what could happen) by Chromi
Rating: T

Summary: For as long as he could remember, he had wanted to set out to sea as an adventurer. His father, unfortunately, dictated that he was to follow the family tradition and become a doctor instead.
Following a lifetime of hurt and sorrow at the hands of his family, he eventually breaks free and takes to the sea alone - determined to keep it that way. Fate has other ideas in store for him; fate crosses his path with Portgas D. Ace's, a brand new pirate.
And what does he hate more than pirates?
Nothing.
Or: from Sixis to the Moby Dick - the lives of the Spade pirates.
First Time by Chromi
Rating: E
Pairing: Masked Deuce/Portgas D. Ace
Summary: "Because it is Ace, and it will only ever be Ace, that he wants to see like this, and he wants to be responsible for unravelling him down to his core and loving him to his very center."

@chromiwrites
Seabound by AnkhPosts
Rating: T
Pairing: Masked Deuce/Portgas D. Ace
Summary: Ace is a selkie, making one of his periodic stops on land to catch a breather and get some ridiculously tasty human food, maybe see some sights if there are any. His pelt is safely hidden, he'll stay a day or two at most and be on his way.
Deuce is a mer, alone on the sea and traveling as he pleases for the first time in his life, and while he might not be terribly interested in actually interacting with humans it's hard not to see them as fascinating.
Ace meets Deuce. Deuce meets Ace. Neither knows the other isn't human.
@ankhposts
Death is only the beginning by Chizyk
Rating: T
Pairing: Marco the Phoenix/Portgas D. Ace

I'm Still Here (part of a series) by theprodigypenguin
Rating: M
Pairing: Masked Deuce/Portgas D. Ace (also Izou/Sabo later in the series)
Summary: "When I do die, don't bother burying me in that empty grave. Put my body in a boat and set me out to sea. Let me sleep eternal on the ocean that my father loved so much; because before everything else in this world, I am a child of the sea, and when I die, I want to return to it. Put me in a boat and set it aflame so I can go down in the same fire I lived."
Forget-Me-Not Fall by theprodigypenguin
Rating: M
Pairing: Izou/Sabo
Summary: “Most of the nobles I’ve met tonight look meticulously put together. They look like they were built to portray a certain image paralleled a hundred times over. People who were copied and pasted. Flawless clothes, flawless faces, flawless makeup, flawless hair.”
“Not me though,” Sabo stated, and Izou hummed.
“It’s comforting.”
“Huh?”
Izou met Sabo’s eye. “Everyone else in this place hides their worst attributes with a mask they modified to fit their faces. They don’t seem to comprehend that those perfect masks only make their worst characteristics more pronounced and defined.” His expression was terribly gentle as his eyes wandered across Sabo’s face. “It’s comforting to be approached by someone not trying to be something else.”
Sabo tilted his head. “How do you know I’m not manipulating you like some common Goa aristocrat?”
Izou smiled. “There are a few reasons.”

Hey, everyone.
So recently I've (predictably) very not well. Actually, whenever I don't post for long periods, just assume my body is trying to kill me. But I've gotten messages from three people asking if I. Okay, which is super sweet. I am actually trying to work on the next All Hearts, a really long ZoLaw post and two request fics, but mixing chronic kidney pain and capitalist society's mandate to work 40+ hours is not recommended.
But to prove I'm okay and still me, here is some Shanks antics with him being a total slut while Mihawk and Beckman just roll their eyes and go along with it. [Shout out to @jhaernyl who not only listens to me ramble about this stuff, but actively encourages it]. I also have many thoughts on the latest episodes and so many screenshots it's embarrassing. Hopefully, when I'm in less pain, I'll get around to actually posting those. Otherwise I just look like an insane person who literally takes by the second frame shots every time Zoro is on screen.
.... What is that? I look like that anyway? Fair.
Shanks Is A Bad Influence
It feels like Buggy and Shanks split up after Roger's death (the crew was told to, and they are the only ones who went to his execution) and I find it impossible to think Shanks didn't immediately set out and find a crew; like, pirating is the only thing this kid knows in life. This means two things:
He set out from East Blue. Also, he seemed at ease and familiar with the East so it's possible he spent like a year there getting everything together. Maybe he even played around in the other blues for a while before heading back to the Grand Line. I say this because his crew is from all over so either he found and recruited them in the Grand Line or visited various blues. Either way, I'm gonna say it took him about two years before getting a 'proper' start. In that case, he would have started out properly at the age of 17 and we know One Piece likes it's parallels.
That still puts Shanks at 17 to Benn Beckmen's 28. How the fuck did Shanks manage that? I'd call it grave robbing, but let's face it, the little tyke probably got up to some actual robbing of graves as well.
My point being everytime Shanks teases Mihawk about keeping this 19 year old kid on his personal island, mostly shirtless, Benn Beckmen just lifts an eyebrow.
Excuse me, captain, who had prefected the 'opps still don't have my sea legs' trip-and-fall into their first mates lap by the age of 17?
Shanks: Beckmen, you caught me! *Shamelessly nuzzles up* Thank goodness! I could be a devil's fruit user after all and - Ahh!
Benn: *Drops Shanks straight over the side of the ship into the water*
Shanks: *Sputtering* What what that!?
Benn: Checking to see if you had eaten a devil's fruit on us, Capatin.
Benn: You didn't.
Smart ass. But he can't resist Shanks forever. Shanks will wear him down eventually.
Next time Mihawk tracks him down for another match - because you know he gets bored way quicker than he'll ever admit and Shanks is at least amusing a challenge - Shanks makes a big deal out of how Mihawk follows him around, "accidentally" revealing they slept together, sighing about how it's so hard to resist him.
Benn Beckmen is just leaning against the side of the ship, sipping his booze.
Shanks: -and I can't stay for hours like last time!!
Mihawk: Are you quite done?
Shanks: *whispering* Does Benn look jealous?
Mihawk: He looks bored. Much like I am. Is this some strange attempt to get out of my challenge, Akagami?
Shanks: What? No, come on I told you I was game. But, hey, could you do me a favor? Maybe like try and kiss me or something? Like take a swing like your going to hit me but then stop shot and grab me by the waist instead.
Mihawk: .... Trickery is beneath you. Besides, you're absolute rubbish at it.
Shanks: Oh, come on, I would totally help you get laid if you asked!
Mihawk: .... *Sigh* I want a proper match afterwards.
Mihawk: *In a forced, monotone voice* After this I will take you to my lair and have my way with you, Akagami.
Mihawk: ... My lair? Really?
Shanks: *Holding up cue card with quickly scribbled line* What? That is how you talk.
Mihawk: I can't believe I wasted precious hours of light tracking you to this atrociously rural port.
Shanks: See? Now, read the next one.
Benn: Captain? If this is going to take all night, I am going to go join the rest of the men in the tavern.
Shanks: Huh? Wait! Benn! What if Miha really stabs me this time!?
Benn: *Salutes Shanks with his bottle* Sounds like that is his plan captain. Have a good 'challenge'.
Shanks: What? No... *Reaching out hand, like he might die if Benn leaves, looking completely devastated* Not even a little jealous...
Mihawk: You couldn't have thought that pantomime would actually work.
Shanks: Benny, don't leave me.... *Turns to Mihawk, immediately brightening* Oh, well, there's always tomorrow. Hey, Miha, guess whose free all night and horny as a pirate in the calm belt?
Mihawk: .... *Sigh* Very well.
Mihawk might as well get something for the trip he made. Although, he's reconsidering if the sex was actually worth the trouble after he ends up listening to Shanks worry half the night that Benn is shacking up with someone else (after a couple hours of rough and raw fucking, admittedly).
Is it the hat? He likes his captain's hat. Miha, you think his captain's hat is sexy, don't you?
Mihawk: It's utterly ridiculous.
Shanks: ....
Shanks: ....
Shanks: *Smile* Ahh, Miha, I knew you liked the hat!
Shanks: What do you old Northerns find sexy?
Mihawk: I am only four years older than you.
Mihawk: And silence.
Trying to convince Mihawk to go spy on Beckman for him. Shanks doesn't actually care if he does sleep with someone else, it's more that Beckman didn't immediately turn angry and jealous like Buggy would have that has him paranoid.
Mihawk is going to fuck this annoying red head again just to shut him up.
Mihawk: Maybe he doesn't like red haired boys who don't know when to be quiet?
The next morning Shanks is pacing among his poor crew that's gotten stuck listening to Shanks obsess about Beckman again. IS IT REALLY THE HAIR!?
It's not even a matter of Shanks's age (or obvious immaturity). I mean, Beckman got on board and stayed, didn't he? Beckman just enjoys watching Shanks try so hard to get his attention. Like Benn's attention isn't constantly on Shanks. He had to when his captain is always one step away from disaster.
He only left him with Mihawk because it was clear Dracule is not a real danger to Beckman's captain.
Except maybe insulting him to death. But Beckman is pretty sure Shanks can handle it. He's met Buggy. He's suspects Shanks LIKES it if anything.
It gets to the point where when they dock somewhere and see Mihawk waiting, or come back to the ship and spot his familiar silhouette, most of the crew goes off somewhere for another drink (sometimes the newer kids will stay to watch such an awesome fight, everyone else is like... Look, you'll have plenty of opportunities later. This is not a one off.)
Benn just takes a look around, nods to Mihawk (a silent signal for, "he's all yours, do with him as you please, if anything happens to him I will track you down and make sure your last few hours on this blue world are as painful as humanly possible") and heads off.
Oh, it's just the Hawk boy.
That's fine then.
Benn use to be a sailor on a trade ship between the North, East, West and Grand Line. He's seen it all.
They called him The Gun Slinger BEFORE he joined Shanks's crew and became a pirate.
So this young, broke ass kid from the streets of some near artic northern island trying to pass himself off as a Lower North rich type has a thing for his captain? Not really enough to keep Beckman up at night, no matter how good at swords he's supposed to be
Besides, he's pretty sure for the kid to keep tracking down Shanks, he must be bored out of his skull. He's not going to do anything to endanger their captain.
Not if Shanks is the only thing he can find to keep him entertained.
One day, Mihawk is going to be waiting on the dock when a bunch of Red Haired pirates are stumbling home, laughing and chattering amongst themselves (Shanks's crew always seems to be in a good mood). One of them will catch sight if Mihawk and walk by with a smile, patting him on the shoulder.
The captain's occupied. Seems likely he'll be 'occupied' for a good while, too.
Mihawk won't smile, but he will think "So you finally warmed him up to you, Akagami?" and snort lightly.
Poor Benn, though. Mihawk could never imagine being with someone so much younger than him. Shanks is only four years his junior and already it strains Mihawk to put up with his occasional moments of "youthful whimsy" (aka being an annoying, immature child)
"A young, cocky pirate with strangely colored bright hair"
Mihawk just putting that on his Not To Do List.
That lasted until Roronoa.
(Mihawk just looking at Zoro knowing this is bad news.)
Mihawk: *Takes list from Benn*
*Cross out, scribbles*
*Hands back to Benn*
Do Not Do:
- A young, cocky pirate with strangely colored bright hair a silly hat, who is overly dramatic and in any way, shape or form related to Gol D Rogers.
Ace: Hey what's up?
Mihawk: *Takes list from Benn*
Go ahead, Benn, laugh it up. Mihawk is aware he has a type. Young, pretty, and utterly insane.
After that night where Shanks was otherwise 'occupied', it's over six months before Mihawk sees his friend his rival again. He is, as expected, far too smug and proud looking.
Shanks: Oh, Miha, so sorry you came all this way, I'm-
Benn: Well, I'm off, captain.
Shanks: What!? But we, you, I... Benn, hessoeexyarentyouworriedforyourcaptain?
Benn: *patting Mihawk on the shoulder* Have fun with him. Don't forget to return him by noon tomorrow, we have a schedule. Oh, but if you can babysit him for at least four hours? That would be great.
Shanks: BABYSIT!?
Mihawk: I suppose I can be troubled to do so.
Shanks: TROUBLED!?
Benn: Thanks, Hawkeyes. I owe you.
Shanks: *Fake tears clinging to his lashes* You two are so mean!
No, don't feel bad for him. Shanks is just trying to guilt the two of them into bed at the same time, and they both know it.
Thanks no thanks, they're not into that. But Shanks can be pretty cute when he's trying so hard (Benn) and at least he's not as boring as everything else in this world (Mihawk) so they allow him to keep up the act
Shanks: *looking at Zoro's wanted poster over Mihawk's shoulder* But I feel like you'd gladly go to bed with him and his captain if he asked. That doesn't seem fair to me. You'd never go that far with me and Benn.
Mihawk: *Eyes Benn*
Mihawk: *DEAD. ONLY.*
Mihawk: I have my reasons.
They can and do agree on plenty of things, including reciprocally not being that attracted to each other.
Shanks: Sounds fake to me
Shanks: But guys!
Shanks: This isn't about you
He's gonna need you guys to drop the egos and focus on what HE wants. I.E., being in the middle of two sexy Northern men.
Honestly, so mean to poor Shanks!

Shanks x fem!reader
inspired by this 💘
Tumblr media
“_____ you don’t want to do this-”
“you shut the fuck up, don’t make me use this! now... I’m going to walk past you and leave through that door, you’re going to stay where you are- Benn I see you don’t move!”
your eyes flicked between red head and his best friend, your arm retracted ready to throw your plush weapon at them if either made the wrong move. you slowly stepped towards the door past Shanks who’s eyes followed your every move like a cat waiting to pounce on a mouse.
Benn took a step forward and your head snapped towards him giving the man a warning glare- you would attack if that’s what it came to. you reached the doorway and called out.
“Lucky! Yasopp! get your weapons!”
a voice yelled back through the ship.
“ready _____!”
you took once last glance at Benn and Shanks making sure neither was getting ready to run after when you were out the door. you quickly turned on your heel and dashed through the doorway and down the hall towards Lucky who waited at the entrance to the stairs leading onto the deck.
you neared the stairs but all of a sudden you heard a series of footsteps behind you and Lucky screamed for you to dodge- but it was too late. a weight fell on top of you and face planted into the floor with the first mate on top of you.
“Lucky run! save yourself!”
“I can’t leave you _____!”
“you heard the woman, Lucky! leave unless you want to meet the same end!”
Roux clenched his jaw and his grip on his pillow tightened, though you couldn’t see his eyes you figured they were probably analyzing his enemies’ positions and how he could get you out. coming to a conclusion he faked a throw at Shanks so that Benn would sit up to block or catch the pillow, as soon as the first mate was partially up, Lucky lunged forward grabbing your outstretched arm and yanking you out from under the man.
“damn it!”
Shanks shouted as he barreled down the rest of the hallway to stairs only to be cut off by Benn when he stumbled after Lucky actually threw his pillow at him. you followed Lucky out onto the deck which was fortunately empty because the rest of the crew had retreated to their rooms.
you reached the top deck and ran to stand beside Lucky who was positioned at the very end. Shanks sprinted up the stairs grinning maliciously like he had finally cornered his pray- only to stop cold in his tracks as he came face-to-face with the real predator.
“I wouldn’t move if I were you, Boss.”
Shanks narrowed his eyes as his previous victory faded from his expression and he glared at his sniper, who had quite the good aim at pillows. but this wasn’t a pillow, and this wasn’t a pillow fight- this was a war.
Yasopp stood between Shanks and you and Lucky, his gun drawn and aimed at his captain.
“I don’t want to do this Boss but you know I will.”
the sniper smirked and gestured with his gun for Shanks to walk over to the side. the red head looked at you and Lucky, then at Yasopp and his gun, then began towards the side. about three steps in he was interrupted.
“not so fast Yasopp.”
Benn appeared up the stairs with his own gun aimed expertly at his crewmate. who’s smile fell while Shanks’ reappeared- how the tables have turned. Benn grabbed Shanks’ arm and pulled him back to retreat to a safer distance, not that any of this battle was over.
--------
Benn and Shanks stood at one end of the ship while Yasopp and Lucky Roux were positioned at other, each man had drawn his gun. you were supposed to be up there too, with Lucky and Yasopp, and the captain and first mate thought you were- they thought you were crouched down behind big pile of barrels, simply because Lucky and Yasopp would look there or speak in the direction as if talking to you while you hid. they were completely oblivious to the fact that you were sneaking through the hall towards the stairs leading up to to the deck where the two foes were located, your gun in hand. your plan was working perfectly.
you stealthily made your way up the stairs and onto the deck behind Beckman and Shanks. you grinned mischievously and nodded at Lucky and Yasopp who were trying to contain their own smiles as you raised your gun.
“freeze.”
both men visibly tensed.
“put the guns down or so help me I will shoot.”
Benn and Shanks slowly leaned over and placed their guns on the floor, though their hands never left the weapons.
“you think this is a game Shanks?! leave the guns! tell your first mate to stand the fuck down!”
the two left their guns and put their hands up while they turned to face you. Lucky and Yasopp soon joined you wearing victorious smiles.
“you bitch.”
Shanks glared at you which only made your teammates laugh.
“you’ve been beat, Boss. accept your defeat.”
“never.”
Shanks’ stubborn attitude always infuriated you during your fights, but. it also made the victories so much sweeter.
“Yasopp.”
“yeah?” “ready the plank.”
the sniper pulled out the long slab of wood and placed it dangling over the side of the ship. Shanks and Benn were led over at gun point, little did you know, they had no intention of jumping. Yasopp and Lucky were standing a little ways behind you, so when Benn and Shanks turned so suddenly the two lunged towards only you.
“it’s a trap!”
you stumbled back and was pushed into Yasopp by Lucky- who ran straight towards the two other men and stopped them in their tracks.
“Lucky!”
you and Yasopp shouted in unison as Lucky’s feet left the ship and he fell to the water below taking Beckman and Shanks down with him. you sat frozen in Yasopp’s arms momentarily before uttering out:
“he saved us.”
to which Yasopp added.
“he sacrificed himself for us.”
the two of you stood up and you wiped a fake tear from your eye as you walked to the railing of the huge ship. you and Yasopp each held your hand to your forehead and proudly saluted for fallen teammate.
“oi _____! can we come up now?!”
you peered over the edge with Yasopp and amusedly rested your chin in your hand, a smug smiled plastered across both your faces as you watched Benn, Lucky, and Shanks bob in the water below.

Shanks x OC SFW Prompt: Marriage proposal [GOOD ENDING] Word Count: 747
Tumblr media
Shanks didn’t usually plan things, he was lucky enough that life just sort of worked for the most part, he just wanted to put as much thought into this as possible. The room that had been used for storage had been cleaned out, everything moved to one of the others. He’d enlisted Benn and Yasopp to help, explaining what he needed doing.
“You really needed us to help you move some old barrels and put some table clothes over them?” Benn asked, a thin brow raised as Shanks pouted at him.
“I only have one arm..”
“Captain, all due respect, bullshit” Yasopp laughed as flapped one of the old table clothes and draped it over another barrel, rolling his eyes.
“You can do more damage with one arm then most people can with their entire being” The blond added as Shanks tried to look offended by the comment, secretly enjoying the impromptu complement.
“Yes, but, that’s not a tablecloth, have you seen how the last person left them?” Shanks grinned and ducked when Benn threw one of the still balled up ones at his captain.
Hours of banter later, crates were arranged to sit on also, string lights were hung up around the room, along the beams in the celling, paper flowers and fake vines draped through the lights. It looked nice, really nice, the fake greenery, the warm white lights on the natural wood. It was something he knew his girlfriend would love.
“This actually looks half decent captain” Yasopp pat Shanks on the back.
“Yeah?” He looked around; each table had one of the many empty wine bottles perched on the centre with a long white candle perched in it. He might as well make something nice out of his habit.
-
Everything had been set up, it looked beautiful, everything he knew she would like. Food was brought in, also set up on a large table, Shanks stood and admired all the work he and the crew had done. He just needed to get his guest of honour, of course he found her reading a book curled up on his captain’s chair.
“Hey petal” Shanks called from the door, she didn’t look up, too engrossed with the adventures in the pages of the book, he tapped on the door again seeing her blink her eyes, being pulled from the world on paper to the real world.
“Hey”
“Come get some food with me” Shanks smiled brightly, offering his arm to her as she set the book down, brushing down her skirt, walking towards him she gladly took it.
“This isn’t the way to the dining room” She mumbled looking down the darkened hall.
“I set something up!” Shanks grinned which caused Pebbsie to give him a wary look, last time he’d planned something it had gone horridly wrong.
Walking into the room she was greeted with the entire crew, all cheering and clapping, yelling surprise, and raising beer mugs to her. She blushed and stared at Shanks, a knowing smile on his face as he walked forward and grabbed a glass of wine for her.
“Happy birthday petal” He kissed her cheek, laughing at how red she’d gotten.
The night was wonderful, surrounded by her crew, her found family, the people who cared about her the most, the man of her dreams. Good food, great company, and so-so wine. She could not have asked for a better birthday.
That was until Shanks pulled her onto the dance floor, one of the crew playing violin in the corner, he twirled her gently, her skirt whirled in the air as he did so. She laughed as he bowed, taking her hand, kissing it. But he then got down on one knee.
She was about to make a joke he was getting old, dropping her hand gently he dug into his pants pocket, pulling out a small silver ring, it had a green gem in the centre, what looked like engraved flowers decorated the band.
“Will you marry me?” Shanks asked, hope in his voice.
“Are… are you proposing to me on my birthday?” She said with a blink, an amused smile as she tried not to tear up at the gesture.
“I’m not good at remembering things.. so I thought.. two events in one date, right?” Shanks chuckled, is sounded nervous.
“Oh, you silly wonderful man, yes!” She sank to the floor, wrapping her arms around his neck and just sobbed happily as the crew cheered.

🎫 Movie Date + 🤣 Comedic with Shanks - Scenario
WARNINGS: None G/N Reader
"Come on, come on! These are the best seats in the place." Shanks muttered in excitement, gesturing you to follow after him in the darkened space.
Many of the seats in the rows were already filled, as thanks to Shanks' insistence on getting drinks, popcorn, and snacks to see them through the show, you'd had to wait in the long concessions line. Previews were already playing up on the giant screen.
You follow along, rolling your eyes when he glances back to make sure you're still there. The smile he flashes you is cheeky, perfectly capturing the man-child you know him to be. He practically collapses into his chair, patting the one beside him to indicate where he wanted you to sit.
"See? What'd I tell ya. You can see the whole screen from here."
"You can see the whole screen from any seat in the theater." You point out to him, and he just gives his typical chuckle in reply.
The movie previews continue to play, but most don't look particularly interesting. Besides, the man you currently accompanied held most of your attention. Him asking you out like this had been a total surprise. A pleasant one, for certain, but not something you'd anticipated.
The whole crew knew of your interest in the captain, and you thought the man who would always have you heart did as well. Surely word got around to his ears on the ship's rumor mill? His subordinates weren't exactly tight lipped...but Shanks hadn't given you any indication that he knew. So you assumed he simply chose not to bring it up in case you would be embarrassed about it. Not that you would be.
So him asking you out was a good confirmation of his feelings to you. Felt pretty good, to be honest.
You're impressed he manages to go a full two minutes without saying anything at all, the both of you eating handfuls of popcorn and sipping eagerly at the drinks you set in the cup holders.
"Thanks for coming out to see this with me, Y/N." He flashed you another grin. "Benn and Yasopp didn't want to come, and I didn't want to go by myself. It's supposed to be pretty good! No amount of convincing changed their mind though. Oh well, their loss."
Your good mood cracked for just a moment. You pause, blinking, then turn a suspicious glare at him.
"Shanks...are you saying the whole reason you asked me out was because all of your first choices said no?"
Shanks' eyes widened and his smile drooped, and you knew in that moment he was frantically trying to come up with some way to cover up the misspoken words. Typical Redhair. "I, uh, didn't say that..."
"Yes, you did! That's exactly what you said."
The lights hanging around the theater darkened, as the show was about to begin. He held up his hands defensively, one still grasping his bucket of popcorn. "Listen, Y/N, the show's gonna start soon-"
"So is this a date, or just two friends hanging out? Because when you asked me, you said it was a date! But if you were planning on bringing Benn and Yasopp, then what really is it?"
"It is a date!"
"Shhhh!!" Several people nearby chastised them, but you ignored them in favor of grilling the carefree captain. Your expectations had been so high, you weren't stopping until you got a straight answer.
"Then why didn't you just ask me in the first place?"
"Because I didn't think you'd say yes!"
"But I did say yes, didn't I?"
"I thought telling you no one else wanted to go with me was the only reason you agreed."
You sent him an incredulous shake of your head. "Oh my god, are you blind? I've been interested in you for months! I would have said yes in a heart beat!"
"You have?" The genuine surprise in his face was honestly hysterical. It should have made you laugh, but the entire situation put together, coupled with the train-wreck start to this whole date, just kind of canceled out the amusement.
"Shhhh!!" Another harsh demand from those surrounding.
"Yes! Did you really not know?"
"No! You never said anything."
"Hey, can you two take your little confession somewhere else? We're trying to watch the movie!" Someone in the row directly in front of you spit angrily, turning in his seat to glare at you.
"Why didn't you say anything if you felt that way?"
"Because I thought you already knew! The whole crew already does, and they can't keep a secret to save their lives!"
His expression turned exasperated. "Everyone knew but me?"
The man in the row ahead of you groaned. "Oh for fuck's sake...I'm calling security."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With a rough shove, you and Shanks were sent out the back door of the theater, the security guard sending you off with a nasty glare. Offering no more than an irritated 'hmph,' he slammed the door shut, leaving you and your oblivious Captain still clutching your popcorn buckets and drinks.
By now it was dark, and the main street had quieted down quite a bit since the two of you entered the building before.
"Well...so much for the movie." Shanks stated with a sigh, but his lips were curled up in amusement all the same. His disappointment wasn't enough to offset how funny all this really was, apparently.
"Sorry. I guess I sort of ruined that for you. Maybe you can see it in a different theater tomorrow?"
"It doesn't matter. I've heard mixed reviews on it anyway." He replied with a wink, tossing his popcorn into the dumpster next to you and reaching out his hand. "Besides, I'd say knowing how you feel about me is worth getting thrown out of a movie theater for."
You try hiding your smile, but it was definitely a losing battle. Still, you do throw your popcorn into the trash alongside his and place your hand into his.
Shanks' grin widens and he pulls you closer, stealing himself a kiss from your lips. Quick enough to catch you off guard. In an instant, it's over, and he's already leading you towards the direction of the ship.
The quickly spreading blush on your cheeks is hard to miss. "What, are you expecting me to swoon?"
"Looks like you already are."
"Ha. You wish, loverboy."
You found my breaking point / Congratulations
Sometimes you’re perpetually sad about a character and want to drag other people down with you, so here, have a tragic Ironwood playlist.
It’s a much condensed and properly ordered version of the 60+ track one I’ve pretty much had on loop for over a year, and it roughly follows his emotional arc through Vol7. He starts out a hero, determined to carry on the fight without Oz, but the weight of leadership and having to be a politician when he’s much more a soldier grinds him down and pushes him further into loneliness and despair. Then Atlas is attacked, he finds out his allies have been lying to him and Ozpin never had a plan to beat Salem in the first place, and his anger, resentment and fear get the better of him and he starts making choices he never would have made before.
I could writes essays on this man and the tragedy of his fall and how he only broke like he did because so many factors, including nothing less than The Entire Narrative, conspired against him, somebody stop me
Tracks:
Hero - Jeff Williams, Caleb Hyles // The Pretender - Foo Fighters // Soldier - Fleurie // Human (Acoustic) - Rag’n’Bone Man // Weight of Living, Pt II - Bastille // Silhouette - Owl City // Icarus - Emma Blackery // Devastation and Reform - Relient K // Numb - Linkin Park // Eyes on The King - Benn // I Gave You All - Mumford & Sons // Heel Turn 2 - The Mountain Goats //  Control - Halsey // Monarch - Rise Against // Save Me - Skillet // Promises I Can’t Keep - Mike Shinoda
[Spotify link]
(Commentary on song choices under the ‘keep reading’ because I’m incapable of keeping all of these thoughts to myself)
Hero - Obvious choice, but listen, it’s a Perfect character song and I love it dearly. Also, it very neatly sets up the person he was trying and thought himself to be, as well as the fact that he’s already deeply damaged and defines his self worth in relation to what he can do for others with no thought to his own life and safety.
The Pretender - James has such strong opinions on Ozpin’s choice to keep Salem’s existence a secret, and clearly hates keeping anyone in the dark about it. He’s also determined that he’ll be the one who finally manages to take Salem down, even though generations before him have failed.
Soldier - So much of James’s identity is tied up in being a soldier and he solves problems like a soldier and that’s always been one of the things that kept him in conflict with Ozpin. Also, consider this one foreshadowing of how making compromises in pursuit of his ideals is going to be what eventually breaks him.
Human - James never admits to it and that’s one of his biggest problems, but he’s clearly struggling being only one man under the weight of so many expectations, as well as so much blame and scorn from allies and the public alike when his methods don’t actually work.
Weight of Living, Pt II - Gotta have a song in there about the weight of living, he’s thematically Atlas after all. Also, I’ve always interpreted him as being something of a generational foil to Ruby, someone who started out with her idealism and had it slowly crushed out of him. “Do you like the person you’ve become...?”
Silhouette - Someone give this poor lonely depressed bastard a hug, he so desperately needs one.
Icarus - James’s very public position and total inability to manage his public image causes him so many of his problems. In a lot of ways, he’s his own worst enemy and biggest stumbling block on that front.
Devastation and Reform - He never gets a true win. Every time it seems like he might, something else always goes wrong or something is lost along the way. And every time it happens and he gets back up to try again, he’s lost more of himself, sometimes very literally.
Numb - When things keep going wrong he starts to shut down, to shut people out, and his complicated feelings towards Ozpin are a big part of that. He’s desperate for Oz’s approval, but also resents him and is equally desperate not to make his same mistakes. It stops him from connecting with Oscar (and also Ruby, tarred by the same brush for keeping Oz’s secrets), something that might have saved him if he’d let it.
Eyes on The King - James’s allies turn on him, he starts thinking of himself as the only one capable of doing what it takes for Atlas to survive, and he’s still reeling from the fact that it seems like none of the people he chose to trust with all of his secrets and information trusted him with theirs in turn.
I Gave You All - Very much an anger-at-Ozpin song, all of his pent up rage at the constant disapproval and the lies and the realisation that the man who always criticised his methods had no real plan of his own, and even considered the battle unwinnable. It doesn’t excuse what he did, but is it any wonder he got so angry at Oz-via-Oscar in the Vault?
Heel Turn 2 - “You found my breaking point / Congratulations.” He finally loses it, makes the decision to shoot an ally, and resolves to do whatever it takes for Atlas to survive even if he ends up hated for it. I could quote so much of this song, and the only bit that doesn’t quite fit is “I don’t want to die in here”. He clearly couldn’t care less about his own life, so for that read ‘Atlas isn’t going to die today’.
Control - He has a dark side, and now he’s chosen to let it out. He doesn’t care if he has to scare people into cooperating, they Will do what he says.
Monarch - This one is James doubling down on his new course of action, on being the person he feels he has to become and trying to convince himself that he’s acting out of a determination not to repeat Oz’s mistakes rather than acting out of fear.
Save Me - James could have been saved from himself, but the tragedy is that there was no one left who could have pulled him out of his own darkness. He alienated his allies, refused to listen to people he considered to be nothing more than naïve children, and made enemies of the only two people he might have listened to as peers - Qrow and Oz/Oscar. And the idiocy of the Atlas military system meant that there was absolutely no one else who could have, or even would have, tried to drag him back from his drastic course of action.
Promises I Can’t Keep - Think of all the promises James made in his character song, the commitments to protection and strength, and join me in being extremely sad about the fact that somewhere deep down he must have known just how much he was letting people down.
nine ladies dancing -> nine hockeys dancing | j. benn
Tumblr media
a/n: i know christmas was two days ago, but 2020 isn’t real so here’s day 9. rest of the series linked here.
word count: 2,799
warnings: single!dad jamie, a very absent mother figure, some cute dancing.
“You want what?”
Jamie sighed, covering his skate blades before dropping them into their designated spot in his stall, all part of his routine that was so practiced and rehearsed he didn’t have to think about anything before he did it. He thrived in the routine of it all, as much routine as he could get at the rink because when he got home, all semblance of a routine went out the window for the dark-haired little girl in pigtails on the background of his phone, sitting in his lap. She was five now, joyful and gap-toothed and as perfect as she’d been to him the day he knew that he was going to be her dad. She was his pride and joy, the only thing that when the sun set everyday, no matter where he was, mattered. It was him and her and he’d do anything to keep her smiling, including ask his teammates to sacrifice a little of their time and a lot of their pride for her.
“Lottie’s nervous about her recital for dance,” Jamie repeated himself slowly and steadily. “She’s scared she’s going to mess it up if she doesn’t practice in front of people who aren’t just her dad as she says, so I was hoping some of you might be willing to drop by the house later to give her an audience? I know it’s a lot to ask for this time of year.”
Some of the younger guys bristled a little at the idea of giving up a prized free Friday night in Dallas without a team commitment the following day to watch Charlotte Benn dance as well as a five-year-old could perform The Nutcracker. Other teammates smiled with experienced and well-knowing understanding, having similar experiences in their own past, and standing up in front of the team to ask for something for their families. Jamie hated asking, but he asked more than anyone else. He hated asking now, especially this close to Christmas where people wanted to be with their families most of all, even though Jamie Benn hated Christmas these days.
“What time do you want me?” left Tyler’s mouth so much more easily than the call for help had left Jamie’s moments before. “Who else is coming?”
Jamie’s calls for help were always answered in this room, a gift he never expected to receive but now couldn’t imagine his life without the people in this room. Especially as hands went up, along with a disjointed but beautiful chorus of, “I’m in,” and, “Me too,” fell from his teammates mouths, Jamie couldn’t stop the grateful smile from forming on his face. The support fell over Jamie’s shoulders in a way that reminded him of the way his mom would pull his heavy, puffy winter coat over his shoulders before sending him outside back home in Victoria ages ago, back when he thought his life was going to be simpler than it was, back when he thought he would follow the traditional order. Grow up, get a good job, find a wife, get married, have a few kids, and live happily ever after in a blissful, peaceful, uncomplicated, adult world. To be fair, Jamie had done most of that, but after Charlotte was born, she left them both, wiping her hands of him and her daughter without a thought of how cruel it really was to leave your child who hadn’t even seen a full year of life the day before her first Christmas.
Jamie hated her for a lot of things now. One of the many things was that she made him hate Christmas and hating Christmas just wasn’t ever in Jamie Benn’s plans. But he had to pretend he didn’t hate Christmas, or her for that matter, because Charlotte deserved to get to be happy and unburdened by her father’s hatred or her mother’s lack of desire to be her mother. So, Jamie Benn loved Christmas, as long as you didn’t look too deep into his eyes where the pain rested as he lied about how excited he was for it.
Still, Jamie painted that smile on his face when he answered the door covered in the most basic Christmas wreath Jamie could get away with to see more of his teammates than he imagined standing behind it. Tyler led the group, big smile and a flower for Charlotte in hand, an attempt to maintain his title as her favorite uncle. Dicky and Guri seemed to have been pulled into this by Tyler, but were happy to have come along probably under the promise that Jamie might just join her for a terrible dance or two, terrible because of Jamie not Charlotte. The girl dad crew, as the shirts one of them had gotten them for the start of the season said, Comeau, Dowling, and Klinger, were all right behind them, and Bishop tagged along as well. The only true surprise was Rads, who despite being a dad himself, only had boys and wasn’t exactly a ballet sort of honorary uncle, but Tyler Seguin could make people do a lot of things for his very deserving niece and he’d put his mind to giving her the biggest audience possible.
The smile relating to Christmas itself might have been fake, but the gratitude Jamie felt to his teammates for stepping up on short notice brought a real one to his face in place of the fake one. His smile carried over as Tyler made a beeline for Charlotte who was standing in the living room, with all the furniture pushed to the walls, in her tutu and a gapped-tooth grin on her face. Tyler scooped her up easily, setting her on his hip and offering her the flower in one smooth motion.
“For me?” Charlotte asked him, her little hands already reaching for it.
“Of course it’s for you, Miss Charlotte,” Tyler smiled back at her as he placed it gently into her waiting hands. “There are no other pretty ballerinas around who deserve flowers.”
“You’d make a pretty ballerina, Uncle Tyler,” Charlotte told him with her eyes trained on her flower.
Jamie funneled past them and into the kitchen to grab a vase for it, the one Charlotte had decorated with her handprints in preschool. Jamie kept everything, every ornament, every macaroni art, every card, every little thing Charlotte made. He had bins of stuff by now, but he was more than content to buy more bins and fill his basement with everything she made. He rotated what was on the fridge weekly. This week, his fridge doors were full of various glittery Christmas artwork from school. Glitter rained on the floor every time he opened it. Jamie didn’t mind in the slightest.
Charlotte was charming his teammates with her dimpled smile when Jamie came back into the living room, vase with water in hand. He knelt down next to her and offered her the vase to slide her flower into. Taking it from her would lead to tears, but letting her put it in the vase she made herself eliminated that possibility. Jamie sat the flower in its vase next to the speakers and pulled up the soundtrack for her recital on his phone.
“Okay, you ready, Lottie?”
Jamie’s question caused his teammates to settle themselves around the room. Tyler took the floor in front of Bish and patted the ground next to him for Jamie. He started the music, then made his way to his spot, slumping down onto the floor while Charlotte fussed with her dance costume and shuffled her feet on the floor. Jamie could hear her counting softly under her breath and see her foot loosely tapping to the beat. Jamie didn’t know a thing about dance, but he had seen Charlotte practicing enough to know she’d missed when she was supposed to come in and was just staring at her shoes instead.
“You okay, honey?” Jamie asked her softly.
“I’m nervous, Daddy,” she mumbled in reply, fingers fussing with her tutu. “I don’t want to dance alone.”
Before Jamie could even begin to stand, Tyler was up on his feet and reaching for Charlotte’s small hands. She sheepishly held onto a few of his fingers.
“Would it help if Uncle Tyler danced with you?” he asked her softly, head ducked down to be level with her. “That way, you won’t be doing it alone.”
“But you don’t know the moves,” Charlotte mumbled, eyes trained on the grain of the hardwood as Tyler swung their conjoined hands back and forth to try and cheer her up.
Tyler laughed as he spoke, “Uncle Tyler can manage just fine, with a little help from some friends?”
Jason Dickinson was up on his feet without another word, with Guri hot on his heels and Klinger right behind him. Bishop might have been flexible, but dancing wasn’t exactly his forte. He still rose to his feet to join everyone else who was gathering around Charlotte. Tyler reached out and grabbed Rads’ forearm, seeing as he hadn’t moved yet, and yanked him into the crowd.
“Daddy!” Charlotte called out from his spot among his teammates, hidden from view. “Come dance too!”
Jamie really, really wasn’t a dancer. Jamie wasn’t a lot of things. He wasn’t the most bold sort of guy, preferring to stay inside of his comfort zone most of the time. He was a good captain, but not by being outspoken. He led quietly by example. Jamie wasn’t the guy who ever thought he’d be a single dad. Hell, sometimes Jamie thought he was the guy who was going to be relegated to the fun uncle role for his entire life before Charlotte was born. Jamie wasn’t the guy who ever thought he’d need other people like he needed people now, like he needed his friends to make his daughter feel comfortable enough to practice for her dance recital, a sentence Jamie never thought would be among his list of concerns in life, because he always thought his ex-wife would be there to help and could handle this sort of thing he was particularly bad at.
Most of all, Jamie never thought he’d hate Christmas, but he truly couldn’t wait for December 26th to come and for that godforsaken tree tucked in the corner that reminded him of everything he wasn’t, everything that he’d failed at, to go back into its box, for his daughter to be doing normal ballet recitals instead of ones of the Christmas variety, for everything to stop reminding him of the holiday he used to love. Still, Jamie rose to his feet from the floor and restarted the music, ready to sway as poorly to it as he did, because Charlotte had asked him to, like doing it didn’t make his chest ache and his head spin as he remembered that life he was supposed to have but never would.
Tyler was the best worst dancer of the bunch, attempting to spin when Charlotte did, arms over his head doing his best impression of a five-year-old doing her best impression of a real ballerina. Jamie just swayed a little to the music, feet shuffling side to side. Rads was trying his hardest to be The Grinch, but it was increasingly hard to do with their teammates making fools of themselves for the sake of Charlotte Benn, Guri finding himself in the air courtesy of Jason and being spun like a top. John was swaying with admiration on his face, seeing this as his future with his own little girl. Charlotte’s giggle was drowning out a lot of the music. Rads ended up slow dancing with Tyler after a fight about which of them was actually right to lead. The fight lasted all of four second before Radulov took charge and started leading Tyler around the living room. Comeau and Dowling were swaying together, giving Jamie supportive looks because they understood what seeing her laughter meant to him on a level others didn’t.
The only thing that dulled the ache in his chest was Charlotte’s laughter. She loved Christmas still, something Jamie would never try to take from her. He didn’t want to pass any of his resentment and anger down to her like a tradition that should’ve died years ago. It would die with him. Jamie was determined to make it so.
His teammates doing their best attempts at ballet meant for five-year-olds to The Nutcracker soundtrack with the fire crackling in the background was a pretty good way to make sure all Charlotte remembered from his Christmas was love and joy. Jamie scooped her up as the song ended, causing a fit of giggles to pour from her mouth.
“You did so good, peanut!” Jamie tickled her a little as he spoke, heightening her giggles. “So good, right guys?”
The chorus of approvals and cheers from his teammates made Charlotte's smile wide impossibly more.
“I think I’m going to do so good tomorrow at the re-re-recital,” Charlotte stuttered a bit as she spoke. The word recital was a difficult one for her. “Uncle Tyler should join. He’s a good dancer.”
“Not as good at you, Miss Charlotte,” he assured her, ruffling her hair a little and making her giggle again in Jamie’s arms.
Charlotte carried the smile she grew that evening with her all the way through to her recital the next day. Jamie dropped her off early, as he always did, and took his seat in the audience among the other eagerly waiting parents. He managed to find a prized seat at the end of the aisle, where Charlotte might actually have a chance at spotting him from the stage.
“Is the seat next to you taken?”
Jamie lifted his eyes from his phone to see you standing there, coffee in hand despite it being seven at night two days before Christmas. You were beautiful and Jamie wondered who you were here with. He wasn’t able to make most dance practices or parent events, so he didn’t have a good idea of who you might be even though it made him feel like a worse dad for not knowing.
“Your Charlotte’s dad, right?” you asked him after clearing your throat.
“Uh, yeah,” Jamie mumbled as he scrambled to his feet to let you get by and take the seat next to him. He dropped back into his seat when you did. “How’d you guess?”
“Well, she looks just like you,” you told him. “But also, figured you had to be the hot single dad everyone talks about in the moms’ group chat.”
Jamie threw his head back and laughed, “The moms’ group chat talks about how I’m hot?”
“Shhhh,” you shushed him softly. “Don’t rat me out as the source of that information though. You’ll get me kicked out of the chat and that chat is the only source of entertainment I have in my life that doesn’t involve a five-year-old.”
Jamie nodded and put a hand over his heart, “Your secret is safe with me. Promise.”
“Better be, or I’ll have to kill you,” you joked, drawing another laugh that caused him to tip his head back and shift his hand over his stomach as he laughed with his whole body.
As he came down from his laughter, the lights began to dim around you to signal the start of the show. You watched as various moms slipped into the aisle, phones outstretched, to record the show. You shook your head softly. The studio always recorded the show and sent it to all the parents after, and you were partial to watching her dance with your own eyes rather than through your screen.
“Gonna get out there?” Jamie whispered to you.
“Their teacher will send out the recording,” you shrugged. “I’d rather watch it.”
“Finally,” Jamie sighed, voice heavy with relief, “someone else gets me.”
“Maybe we should sit together at more of these,” you suggested to him as the lights went dark. “Single parents who don’t believe in watching the recital through their phones.”
Normally, especially now when trees stood in people’s living rooms and wreaths hung on front doors, the acknowledgement Jamie was in this alone with Charlotte, that she left them both, made him feel alone. When the words left your mouth, Jamie felt a sense of closeness, of kinship, of mutual understanding that he hadn’t felt in a long time. It was natural, the way you two talked between dance numbers, about Charlotte, about your daughter, about hockey, about your work, about your lives. Jamie left that recital with your phone number burning a hole in his pocket and Charlotte’s hand in his, feeling like, for the first time in a long time that Christmas might still have some magic left in it after all.
“We've been here before, you and me together. And we will again. Somewhere somehow we'll meet again.” - Leohearts on Tumblr
End of 2013
Y/n forgot about the time on July 22 at 5:33 pm. That was when her whole life fell apart and her world turned upside down. That was the moment he broke up with her and left her alone, confused and broken. It seemed so easy for him to walk away and forget about their love, but for Y/n it was a heartbreak she’s never experienced before. She was hurting, but everyone around her kept moving forward, life went on and on and Y/n stayed stuck in place. Summer ended as quickly as it came, the leaves turned brown and fell from the trees in the blink of an eye, Halloween passed and Thanksgiving was near but she didn’t acknowledge it and refused to make plans and she decided to stay home alone and cry. She didn’t want anyone to see her because the breakup seemed to take away all of her confidence and she feared everyone would look at her and think “what a fool, she thought she was going to get a fairytale ending with her hockey player prince”. As if the breakup put her in a bad light, as if it meant she wasn’t worthy of the love and the good company of her friends. The only reason she got out of bed every morning was her job that she didn’t enjoy anymore and for every minute she spent there she prayed for the end so she could go home and curl up in bed. No one saw her smile, no one heard her laugh, she stopped joining her colleagues for lunch and she avoided every conversation. She spent most days in her bed, crying and screaming whenever she needed to, and kept replaying every moment before the breakup to find the one where she went wrong. Maybe one day she’d find the mistake and it’d give her a fair chance of avoiding it the next time she’s in a relationship. Because what if it truly was all her fault? What if she ruined it? On the other days, she wrote letters, sometimes to Jamie, sometimes to herself just to get her thoughts out of her mind, and sometimes she stared at the blank paper and didn’t write a single word. All letters ended up in fire the moment she finished writing them.
Y/n used to believe she wasn’t the type of person who lets a heartbreak ruin her life but the end of her and Jamie’s love story had a bigger impact on her than she expected. She kept repeating to herself it was just a breakup, just a guy, just a temporary feeling but nothing could ease her pain. The pain was so overwhelming she was sure it would last for evermore.
The situation significantly changed in December. With all the Christmas decorations, songs, and movies that followed her everywhere, it was hard not to feel the joy. Suddenly she started craving the company of others and started hanging out with all her friends whenever there was a chance, sometimes she walked around the city on her own, she shopped for gifts and before she realized it, she was being her old self again; happy and cheerful. Her attitude towards the breakup changed as well although it highly depended on her mood each day. When Y/n felt good and confident, she wondered what she was even fighting for. For a relationship that ended weeks before he said it out loud? For a man who got so disgustingly comfortable in their relationship and took her for granted? On days like this, she refused to blame herself. On the days when she wasn’t in a good mood, she still cried a little and some doubts returned. But no matter what day she was having she knew now she was going to get through it.
Jamie on the other hand was doing better than ever before. He felt free to do whatever he wanted, he could go out and party all night every night, he had a different girl in his bed every time he went out, there was no one holding him back. In September he was named the sixth captain of the Dallas Stars, the new season started, and he felt like he owned the world. He had everything he ever wanted. But most of his old friends could hardly recognize him. He was the opposite of who he used to be. Cocky and foolish. Jamie naturally refused it and insisted on his truth: he was still the same person. Everyone could see how lost he was without Y/n, they saw it long before Jamie did. Jamie believed he was happy, however the breaking point came in December, just around Christmas. All his teammates were getting ready to spend the holidays with their wives and kids, girlfriends, and families, they all had someone to go to, someone who would greet them at home. But Jamie returned to an empty apartment every night and he started missing Y/n singing in the shower, her silly dance moves while she prepared the food, or her sleeping peacefully while he was about to leave for the morning skate. He missed her face and her voice and her support and love. Everything that he took for granted. He got overly comfortable and believed she would stay by his side no matter what.
And so, while Y/n started to feel better, Jamie started to feel the consequences of their breakup and the pain of all the things he lost.
Presence
Another horrible date, another idiot her friends set her up with. Another wasted day and time and a wasted outfit on someone who didn’t deserve it, not even a tiny bit. Y/n felt comfortable with being single, but her friends believed it was time for her to start seeing someone again. Since her brokeup with Jamie, she only had one longer relationship that lasted for almost three years. But that was three years ago and since then she only went on dates, but she was never satisfied with anyone. And unlike her friends, she already gave up on the hope of ever finding her soulmate.
On her way home, Y/n decided to take the longer route home to properly clear her mind and get some fresh air she so desperately needed. It was late spring, and the weather was nicely warm, the trees were green, and flowers bloomed around the sidewalk. Her mood was significantly decreased by that idiot her friends believed he could be the one, but she still couldn’t resist to smile as she looked around herself. New life always began with spring for her. And as she looked around, she noticed a familiar figure standing just across the street. A tall, muscular figure, dark hair, and tattoos covering his arms, the way he posed as he stood still. Y/n froze in place when she realized it was truly him, her heart started beating faster and she debated with herself whether she should quickly leave or continue walking and go to him to say hi. She then smiled even brightly and with confidence went to him. After all, there was no grudge against him anymore, no anger or pain, no need to cause a scene. She was at peace and she was now able to look back to 7 years ago and feel joy from all the memories she had of him and them together.
Jamie as if he knew felt a familiar presence behind him and slowly turned around. He didn’t expect to see anyone, and he believed it was just a random feeling but there she was. She was more beautiful than he remembered, her hair was longer, her face more mature now but the smile and bright eyes didn’t change at all. Panic took over Jamie when he realized she was heading his way and he wanted to run away. He wasn’t quite ready to face her because even after 7 years he couldn’t believe he made the mistake of letting her go. He knew now she was the love of his life and foolishly he let her go and he couldn’t believe his stupidity and naivety he was better off alone. What was going to happen now? Was he going to meet her on a beautiful spring day with the birds singing, trees blooming and the sunshine warming up his skin and learn some awful truth? What if she was on her way to pick up her children from kindergarten or school? What if he was about to learn she’s happily married and has everything she ever wanted? Of course, he would be happy for her but the selfish side of him couldn’t accept she would have that with someone else and that he was going to spend the rest of his life searching for her in some other girl and then die unhappy and alone.
“Hey there stranger,” her sweet voice brought him back to reality from his thoughts and sent shivers down his spine. It was like seeing a ghost.
“Y/n!” He breathed out and without thinking, he took a step closer to her, wrapped his hands around her, and gently picked her up. Y/n closed her eyes and let herself get lost in the moment and enjoyed his touch, his strong hands around her body, his beard slightly scratching her soft skin, his cologne, and the nostalgia. Jamie did the same, his heart was beating fast and he knew he would have trouble with letting her go once again. “How are you?” He asked as he put her back on her feet, unwillingly and full of fear he would never get to do this again.
“I’m good,” she said confidently. “Really good. I was just on a date.” She laughed.
“A date huh?” He said raising his eyebrow hoping she would give him more details.
“Yeah,” she nodded. Y/n knew she should’ve told him it was a bad date and that the guy was an idiot but Jamie was the last person she wanted to talk to about it and after all, he didn’t need to know anything about her personal life anyway. “But let’s not talk about that. How are you, Jamie? I’m so happy to see you!”
“I’m good too! Things are great with hockey and everything, you know? Couldn’t ask for more I guess.”
The two fell into a silence that was far from comfortable. They randomly and shyly looked at each other from time to time desperately trying to figure out what to say next. After so many years, after all the pain and moving on what could two people possibly talk about? They were done with the small talk and although neither one of them wanted to part ways just yet, they had no idea what to talk about. Y/n deep down knew meeting him would cause some damage, it would bring back some bad memories and possibly even pain and it would certainly leave her wondering what could’ve been if he didn’t end their relationships. Jamie wanted to grab her hand and never let go because he knew now without a single doubt that it was the biggest mistake of his life to let her go and even after seven years he didn’t fully move on.
“I should probably head home,” Y/n whispered unsurely.
“No! Don’t go, not yet,” Jamie said quickly. “We haven’t seen each other for so long we can catch up a little, grab a coffee or something and talk.”
“Jamie,” she said, rubbing the back of her head as always when she found herself in an uncomfortable situation. “I’m not sure it’s a good idea. Look, after the breakup I was not doing good and it took me so long to get over you. And just seeing you here in front of me is hard because it’s making me realize that it never faded, you know? Something’s still there, some feeling, and I can’t risk getting my heart broken again.” It took all her strength to say it out loud but she had it rehearsed in her mind for such a long time. After the breakup, Y/n often imagined running into him on the street and this was the speech she prepared and memorized.
Jamie knew this was coming, he deserved it. He deserved to know how much he hurt her and how much he screwed up. He had no illusions about himself anymore, for a few years now, he admitted to himself he was arrogant to everyone around him. But what for? It was probably too late. A girl like her, so kind and beautiful, funny and supportive couldn’t be alone.
“I know.” He nodded and looked away. He couldn’t bear looking at her, but he wasn’t gonna give up just yet. “Y/n, I know I made a terrible mistake and I’ve been regretting it for so long and if I had the chance, I would take it back. I was stupid, selfish and I took you for granted. I know it! But I also know that if you gave me a chance, I would be better this time.” This was the first time Jamie shamelessly and bravely admitted his feelings. He was never good with words, expressing his emotions, and avoided it as much as he could but 7 years was a long time to think and to change himself for the woman he loved. In the end, this was probably his only chance.
“I can’t Jamie, I’m sorry, I can’t do this again,” tears appeared in her eyes as she said the last word but she still found some courage to fight it back and smiled at Jamie before she walked away praying he won’t go after her. And he didn’t.
A couple of days later
A few days later Y/n found herself confused about her feelings for Jamie and she couldn’t stop thinking about him. He still had her wrapped around his finger. All these years of moving on and believing she was over him were destroyed. She thought deeply and constantly, wrote dozens of reasons why it’s not a good idea and why she could give him another chance, she cried, tried to forget, talk about it with her friends. But nothing worked. The memory of him kept coming back to her even in her dreams and ever since she ran into him she had a few dreams about the meeting, about their life together, and even a dream of their breakup. She was screwed once again.
“So, what you’re gonna do about it?” Y/n’s friend finally asked after the curiosity took over her. “I mean you’re thinking about him, right?”
“Of course, I am thinking about him! How could I not? It’s been 7 years and I was over him, over us and then I meet him for a few minutes, and he messes me up like this? What am I supposed to do now?” Y/n yelled out. Deep down she already knew what to do but didn’t want to admit it to anyone. Not even herself.
“Whatever you decide to do, I know it’ll be the right thing,” the friend smiled at her warmly.
That night Y/n couldn’t sleep. She kept tossing and turning in her bed, she tried to read a book, watch a movie, listen to a podcast but nothing could put her to sleep. The decision she made deep down haunted her because she knew if it was a bad one it would end in a total disaster and she wasn’t sure if she would survive it the second time around. And so, the next day she decided to go see Jamie in person and clean up the air.
Y/n arrived to the American Airlines Center early in the morning hoping she would find Jamie there. When they were dating, he liked to go there before anyone else arrived to have time for himself and Y/n hoped this habit didn’t change and she would find him on the ice.
“I hoped I’d find you here,” she said with relief when she spotted Jamie on the ice all by himself. “Some habits just don’t change huh?”
“Y/n!” Jamie said with surprised face. He was lost in his thoughts and didn’t notice her standing just a few feet away from him. It brought back so many memories of her coming with him to early morning skates, to his games, or when they sneaked in at night and skated until the late hours of the night. It reminded him of her smile and excitement, he heard her laugh and saw the sparkles in her eyes. “What you’re doing here?”
“I’ve been thinking about what you said the last time we saw each other,” Y/n admitted. “And I came to the conclusion that I might survive giving you or perhaps giving us a second chance.” She smiled at Jamie and then quickly stopped as she realized he could’ve changed his mind and not want her back anymore. “If you still want that.”
Jamie’s face lit up immediately after she finished talking. He hoped and prayed for a second chance and he knew that if he was gonna get it he would make sure to treat Y/n right and appreciate her as he should’ve. He then quickly skated to Y/n and stood in front of her with hope and happiness visible on his face. “I promise I won’t make any stupid mistakes this time.”
“You will make stupid mistakes,” Y/n giggled. “Just don’t ever let me go again.”
“I won’t, I promise you that.”
“Then it’s for evermore,” Y/n whispered and kissed Jamie. And it was right. It felt right. They belonged together.
Cutting Edge Master List
Tumblr media
Returning to Denver after Christmas, you spent most of your time at the rink after practice working on polishing your own skating again. You had been informed that all skating coaches would be performing at the upcoming NHL All-Stars weekend, and every figure skater had been sent music to choreograph a routine to. Luckily for you, choreography was one of your strong points. You had always loved putting your own routines together, and this was no exception. You had been sent the song CHAMPION by Bishop Briggs and though you loved the song, you knew your routine had to be flawless to skate to it. You were the reigning Olympic champion after all. Nate would stay most of the time with you, trying his best to be helpful and give you his opinion when you asked for it. He admittedly did not know much about figure skating though and usually just told you everything looked great, even when you knew it probably wasn’t. You appreciated his support though none the less.
Two weeks before the All-Star break was set, you found yourself traveling to Dallas as the boys had a game against the Stars. Along with the Stars came the one figure skater you could live without ever dealing with again, Ashley Wagner. Beside Nate, no one knew the animosity that was between the two of you, and you were hoping to keep it that way. You didn’t need to worry the team with a petty feud between two rival figure skaters.
You were staring out the window of the plane when you felt someone sit down next to you. Turning, you saw Nate settling into the seat as he gave you a questioning look. “You okay?” he asked. He knew you weren’t looking forward seeing Ashley, and was not sure what this new environment would bring out. You smiled and nodded, opening your book again to distract you.
Nate was worried about you. He had been watching you stress yourself out over putting together a perfect routine for the All-Stars, not to mention helping Jeremy put his together over multiple facetimes. Apparently, you were the one to come to with routine questions. He thought it was amazing, how you could take a song and within two days have a mostly completed routine laid out, he would never be that creative. But between coaching, working on your skating, and running to dress fittings at a shop you found in Denver, he had never seen you look so worn out. Nate was worried that if Ashley pushed a button correctly, you would snap. Your smile may be able to fool everyone else, but Nate had been paying attention over the two months you had been together and was starting to be able to read you like a book. Though it was comforting to you that he knew how you were feeling without even saying it; it also put you on edge. You were used to concealing your feelings behind a smile, and with Nate you couldn’t anymore.
The team landed in Dallas the evening before their game, and you enjoyed dinner with them before heading to your hotel room. You were just crawling into bed with the cooking channel on when there was a knock at your door. Opening it, Nate stepped in quickly and shut the door behind him. “What are you doing here?” you asked. When you traveled, the two of you didn’t spend time in each other’s rooms unless someone else was around to prevent any suspicion.
“No one saw me, we’re fine,” he said, placing a soft kiss on you lips. He grabbed your hand and pulled you over to the bed, getting in on his side as you did the same. “I won’t stay long,” he said gently as you rested your head on his chest. His arm that was around you started drawing absent minded figures on your waist underneath your shirt, as his other hand held yours. “I’ll leave early before anyone should be up,” he said into your hair as you both drifted off.
Around 5am, you heard Nate’s alarm go off and felt him get out of bed. He chuckled as you mumbled incoherently and deftly reached for him. “Go back to sleep,” he whispered, placing a kiss on your forehead. You sleepily watched him walk to the door and peak his head out, giggling at his large figure trying to be sneaky as he made his way out.
           This was not happening. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Who does interviews before anything happens! You absentmindedly grabbed the figure skate charm on your necklace and bit your lip. You had just been told that you would be doing a pre-game interview. That wasn’t what was bothering you though. What was bothering you was that you would be doing the interview with Ashley. You knew someone had happened across your not so friendly history and planned this because you have never done an interview with any of the other skating coaches.
           You were ushered to the area and sat down in front of a microphone when you were announced. Ashley walked in after, smiling brightly at you. You returned it, quickly snapping into performance mode. At first the questions were fine; how did you like being with your team, how were things going, did you miss skating yourself. Then the question came of how do you think your team will do in the game tonight. Ashley, being asked first, put on a brilliant smile that made you want to role your eyes. God she was so fake. “I think we’ll do great! I know how Y/N skates and I have prepared them for it. The Stars are a great team so we shouldn’t have a problem.” You kept your smile light, trying your best not to roll your eyes at her. The same question was then directed to you.
           “I believe that the team is prepared. Similar to what Ashley said, I know how she skates and it should be a good game,” you answered. You heard Ashley snicker quietly and you had to bite your tongue. This was not the time or place to lose your temper on her. After a few more questions, you were asked to take a picture together. You had been fiddling with your necklace and didn’t pay any attention to it until you realized Ashley was looking at it.
           “That’s new. Why is there a 29 on it?” she asked. You froze, but quickly recovered and turned the charm back around.
           “It’s the maker of the charm,” you tried to shrug off. As you walked out of the room of the interview, Ashley followed.
           “I’ve never heard of them. Where can I order one?” she pestered.
           “It’s this little boutique in Denver. They don’t have a website,” you said off the top of your head.
           “Well that’s too bad. Maybe you can take me to this 29 store the next time we’re in Denver?”
           “Of course.” You both faked a smile at each other as you got to the hallway leading to the locker rooms. Unfortunately for you, Nate had stepped outside to see where you were. The team had seen the interview and you were taking a little long to get back. He volunteered to make sure you weren’t lost. Ashley didn’t miss him.
           “What a coincidence, 29 looks like he’s looking for you,” she smirked, leaving for the Stars locker room. You walked over to Nate and started to push him back into the locker room. To say he was slightly confused was an understatement.
           It was late in the third period, the score tied 1-1. The game had been highly physical, and you couldn’t help but be on edge. You were standing on the bench when the final buzzard went off, and the game was pushed into overtime. The game became even more physical if that was even possible, and you jumped as Perry checked Cale into the boards in front of you. A time out was called by the Stars, and you glanced briefly over to their bench. As you did, you saw Ashley say something to Jamie Benn, and he smirked looking your way. You saw him then eye Nate, and you had a bad feeling about it. Watching as Benn skated over to Nate, you could tell he was saying something. Nate tried his best to ignore the left winger, and you wish you could hear what was being said. The puck dropped, and as quickly as it hit the ice, gloves were also falling. You watched as Nate and Benn went at it, wanting to hide behind your hands but also not being able to look away. Without notice, you grabbed onto Tyson’s arm as he was the player you were standing behind. The bench was yelling, the crowd was cheering, and you didn’t know what to do. Watching hockey fights on tv or from the stands was one thing; but watching from the bench as the player you were dating was duking it out with another had you frozen in place.
           To your relief, you saw Benn hit the ice with Nate on top and the refs scrambled to separate them. What you weren’t prepared for though was seeing Nate with a cut at his eyebrow, blood gushing from it. You unintentionally squeezed Tyson’s arm, and he turned back to you. “He’s fine Y/N,” he spoke lightly, patting your hand with his glove. Looking at him, you nodded and tried to compose yourself. Your first instinct was to run to Nate and see if he was alright, but you knew you couldn’t do that. All you could do was watch as he was escorted off the ice, his penalty longer than the amount of time left in the game. Benn had a bloody nose, and what looked like a busted lip, but that didn’t stop him from smirking over at you. You watched as Ashley tried to hide a laugh, and you were thankful that the game was about to resume or else you may have yelled something you shouldn’t. Unfortunately, a man down with Nate off the ice, the Stars scored first, effectively winning the game.
           You were waiting outside the medical room wanting to see Nate as the Avs started to spill out of the locker room and head for the bus. You were in your own head, blaming yourself for the loss when you heard someone walk up to you. Looking up, you saw Tyson with a concerned look on his face. “You know he’s fine right? They probably just have to stitch up his eyebrow if anything,” he said, trying to judge your reaction.
           “I feel like it’s my fault,” you whispered, tears starting to blur your vison.
           “What do you mean? None of this is your fault Coach,” Tyson responded, confused as to why you were blaming yourself.
           “I think he got in the fight because of me; because stupid Ashley can’t keep her mouth shut. And then we lost because we were a man down and it’s all my fault,” you swiped at a pesky tear that had fallen. Tyson wasn’t sure what to do, not entirely understanding why you were taking the loss so personally. They had lost a few times before and he didn’t think you had been this effected by it.
           “You’re losing me. Why would Nate’s fight be your fault?” As Tyson finished his question, you grabbed the charm on your necklace and flipped it over to show him. You saw the moment his confusion turned into realization at what the ‘29’ was referring to. “Wait you and Mac?” he whispered, eyes wide and smile threatening to show. You nodded. “I knew it! Since when?”
           “Since the home opener. But we’re keeping it quiet so you need to calm down right now!”
           “Does anyone else know?” he asked, trying and failing to compose his face.
           “Only Gabe and Andre on the team. Mel knows, and my best friend Jeremy knows, plus our parents but that’s it.” You said, then remembered why you were having this conversation to begin with. “But now I think Ashley knows, at least she guessed when she saw my necklace which is why this is all my fault. I shouldn’t have been playing with it which drew her attention to it and it landed on the wrong side.” You wiped angrily at another tear that fell, annoyed. You had always been a crier when you were mad though; it was how you dealt best with the emotion. Tyson went to comfort you as the door behind him opened. You looked around him and saw Nate, with the outlines of an apparent black eye and medical tape over fresh stitches over his right eye on his eyebrow ridge. You rushed around Tyson and wrapped your arms around Nate’s sternum, hugging him not caring that he hadn’t showered yet. He held you with one arm, his stuff in the other as he looked at Tyson who was smiling like an idiot.
           “See you two lovebirds on the bus,” the younger man saluted and walked off. Nate stared after him confused for a second, but then seeing no one was around he bent down and planted a kiss on top of your head. You separated from him, looking up into his blue eyes.
           “I’m so sorry if this is because of me,” you whispered, not bothering to stop another tear that had fallen.
           “It’s fine baby. Does Josty know about us?” Nate asked, wiping a tear with the pad of his thumb. It was a risk, being this close in public. But he hadn’t seen you cry before, and he wanted to be near you after what Benn had said on the ice. You nodded and grabbed his hand, noticing he had also split one of his knuckles.
           “I was freaking out because Ashley saw the 29 on my necklace and I think she figured it out and said something to Benn. I feel like it’s my fault we lost and I ended up telling Tyson.” You were looking down at your hands, then looked back up to him, your heart clenching at how concerned he looked when it should have been the other way around. “Why did you get in the fight?” you asked softly.
           “It doesn’t matter. It’s not your fault though. We’re a team Y/N, all of us. I screwed up and let what Benn said get to me. If it is anyone’s fault we lost, it’s mine,” Nate shook his head as you opened your mouth to protest. He really did not want to tell you what Benn had said as it had all been in regards to you. He had been vulgar, and Nate snapped. Giving your hand a slight squeeze, he continued. “I’m going to go change. Why don’t you get to the bus and I’ll see you in a bit okay?” You nodded, and Nate watched as you walked away. Though he was upset with himself for getting in a fight and subsequently losing the game, he would do it again for you in a heartbeat. And as you walked away from him toward the bus, he realized for the first time that he would do anything for you, and you were taking his heart with you piece by piece.
           An hour later found you sitting against your headboard, giggling at Andre’s reaction to the Hallmark movie you had playing. He had complained about it at first, but your room your rules. He had surprisingly gotten into the plot, and was yelling at the man who mistakenly thought the main character was with someone else when he wanted to confess his feelings for her. After Chip Gate (what you loving dubbed Tyson and Cale’s chip debate after the first game), your room had become the place the team drifted to. Whether it was to conceal junk food that they shouldn’t be eating, an ear to listen to girl problems, or a comforting environment in terms of a loss on the road, you became the team’s go to person. Not to mention you had motherly tendencies and didn’t mind being there and fussing over everyone. It made you feel even more accepted as part of the team. This is why at the moment Andre was sitting on the floor leaning against the bed, Tyson had taken his usual spot laying across the foot of the bed, and Cale was sitting in the desk chair.
           Before you could tell Andre to be quiet so you could hear what was being said, there was a knock at your door. Tyson got up and answered, Nate walking into the room behind him. His eye was swollen and bruising, but he seemed more relaxed as he walked over to the side of the bed and sat next to you. He put his arm around you, pulling you into his side and placing a kiss on your head. “Did I miss something?” you heard Cale speak up and you looked at Nate with wide eyes and a slight giggle.
           “Dammit,” Nate mumbled. He forgot Cale didn’t know. This was the first time he thought he could be open with you, forgetting the young defenseman was still in the dark about your relationship.
           “Coach and Nate are dating. Now shut up so we can see the guy stop being an idiot.” Tyson responded. “Also Coach, I hate you for making me so interested in this movie,” he complained over his shoulder.
           “You know you love it,” you teased, snuggling into Nate’s side. Cale kept going between staring at you and Nate, then the tv, unsure of when this happened and how others knew. Luckily for him, the movie ended 20 minutes later and he started asking questions. You told him how you got together and asked him not say anything because you were keeping it quiet.
           “Of course, but why do they know?” he asked.
           “I was on the phone with Burky and Y/N sneezed in the background, and Josty just found out today because…why again?” Nate asked you.
           “I was freaking out about you getting into a fight,” you answered.
           “Does anyone else on the team know?” Cale questioned.
           “Gabe, but that’s it. So you are now sworn to secrecy,” you said looking over at him. Cale nodded, and then turned back to the tv. After another hour the three of them left for their own rooms, leaving you and Nate alone. You turned the tv off and turned off all the lights beside one on the bedside table. Nate took his shirt off and climbed under the covers with you, the both of you on your sides facing each other. You ran your fingers gently over his swollen eye. “Do you want me to get you some ice for this, or anything?” you asked. Nate shook his head.
           “No, I just want to lay here with you,” Nate grabbed your hand in his and kissed your knuckles.
           “I’m sorry,” you whispered, still feeling guilty over his fight, the team’s loss. Nate placed his arm over your waist and pulled you closer to him.
           “You have nothing to be sorry for. You were right, Ashley probably did figure it out. But I would fight anyone for you,” Nate said honestly, moving strands of hair out of your face.
           “What did he say?” you asked. Nate shook his head again.
           “He was being inappropriate to you. That’s why I took care of it,” he stated, and you didn’t ask any further questions. Nate was glad because he did not want to repeat the vulgar things Benn had said to him. He wishes he would have hit him a few more times just thinking about it. Nate was brought out of his thought by a soft giggle.
           “You defended my honor?” you teased him. Nate chuckled and rolled his eyes at you. “My hero,” you whispered, pressing your lips to his. Nate returned your kiss, maneuvering himself so your back was flat on the bed with him hovering over you. The kiss became heated as Nate slipped one of his hands under your shirt.
           “Any day,” he whispered before kissing your neck. After what became a heated make out session, you were laying with your back pressed into Nate’s chest, holding his hand that was slipped under your head as his other rested on your stomach, holding you close to him. And though you never wanted to be someone’s damsel in distress, with how protected you felt in Nate’s arms, he could defend you anytime.
Throwing on some shorts and a t-shirt, you headed down to the kitchen to whip up a quick protein shake before Tyler got there for your morning workout. With the season just around the corner, you’d pushed training into high gear, Tyler coming to your place every morning before you’d head off and workout with your trainer. In just a few short weeks training camp would be in full swing and you wanted to be in your best shape to make a run for the cup. But the Stanley Cup wasn’t on your mind as you turned the blender on, the grinding sound echoing through the empty house. Empty was the keyword there. You were tired of being alone, tired of going out to the clubs, ending the night with some mindless hookup. Maybe it was the fact that Jordie had finally popped the question to his long-time girlfriend Jess and the two seemed blissfully happy, that was making you want to settle down, or maybe it was seeing your sister with her little girl and longing for a family of your own. Whatever it was, you wished that you could just meet the perfect woman and fall madly in love.
 The problem was you were too picky. They were either too tall or too blonde or maybe it was not blonde enough, then there were the ones that didn’t talk or were too chatty. You seemed to find something wrong with each and every woman you dated. Hell, your longest relationship only lasted six months and you’d only kept her around that long for appearance sake. You wanted a meaningful relationship with the girl of your dreams. It didn’t seem like much to ask for.
 “Hey, I see you're getting new neighbors.” Tyler’s voice brought you out of your musings and you glanced at him as he walked into your kitchen. “Well not neighbors exactly, since it’s like two houses up, but the woman who’s moving in is hot as hell.”
 “Do you mean in Doc Lundin’s place?” Dr. Lundin had been the team doctor for the Stars for the last several years and had finally decided to retire. You’d heard his practice had been looking at a young and upcoming doctor to take his place but didn’t know that they’d hired anyone.
 “Yep,” Tyler finally answered. “Must be the new doctor’s hot wife. It’s a shame she’s married because, DAMN!” He gave a low whistle of approval. “I’m telling you, I’d be all over that.”
 “Don’t you have a girlfriend?”
 “We’re in an open relationship.” All you could do was roll your eyes, for all Tyler’s relationships were open, at least on his end. “But hey, if you wanted a crack at her, I’d give you first dibs, since it’s been a while.”
 “Gee thanks,” your sarcasm was not lost on your best friend.
 “I’m just saying it’s been a bit since you’ve gone out with anyone.” This you already knew and were just contemplating moments ago. “Maybe we should go for a run while she’s still out directing the movers.”
 “Why don’t we leave the new doc’s wife in peace at least for a day or so.”
 “You’re no fun.” Tyler downed half your drink but luckily, you’d made enough for another glass, before you headed out to your pool house that had now been turned into a gym. The two of you spent the morning and afternoon training before Tyler headed back to his house.
 It was just after dinner when you decided to go for a run, now that the sun was setting and the Dallas heat wouldn’t make your shoes melt to the pavement. You thought you’d head up to see Jordie and Jess, who only lived about six blocks away. It would be a short little run, but still, a way to get some exercise in. As you stepped out of your house, it was still a bit steamy, so you tossed your shirt off, and flipped your cap backward before heading up the street. The moving truck seemed to be gone, so you guess whoever it was that captured Tyler’s attention was busy inside unpacking. You were so absorbed in checking out the house you didn’t realize that someone was coming around the corner at you until your bodies collided. Your hands immediately went to her hips to steady her. “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t watching…” you started to say while she was apologizing to you at the same time. It wasn’t until you looked at her face that recognition hit, then all words died on the tip of your tongue. “(Y/N), is that you?” She didn’t need to answer for you to know that it was her. This was your (Y/N), the first girl you ever kissed, the first girl you ever slept with, and the only girl you ever loved. Though you’d ruined all that. Standing there, you took in all of her features and you were reminded of how much you’d loved her back then. How much that first and only time with her had meant to you.
 You’d been so nervous driving all the way to Vancouver with (Y/N), but she was more nervous. So, you took her hand and held it the whole way, occasionally dropping kisses here and there. The foot that wasn’t driving, bounced uncontrollably up and down with anticipation of the night to come. You were pretty sure you were wearing a hole in the flooring of the car. It had to be the longest car ride you’d ever had. “Did you maybe want to get something to eat before we head to the house?” You asked (Y/N) hoping to break some of the silence that was filled only by the stereo in the car.
 “Yeah, we could do that.” She glanced over at you and gave you a weak smile.
 “(Y/N), we don’t have to do anything if you don’t want to.” You totally meant the words you’d just spoken, for you in no way wanted her to feel pressured about having sex with you. This should be something you both wanted.
 “No, I want to. Don’t you?” Her voice picked up a little bit, the sound more reassuring than the smile she gave only moments ago.
 “I want to, too.” God, you sounded like an idiot. “I went to the pharmacy and got protection, so you don’t have to worry.”
 “Oh, you didn’t have to.” This time it was your turn to look over at her, trying to see if you misunderstood her statement before scanning the road again. “I’m on the pill, have been for a while.” She said by way of explanation. “My mom thought it would be best, once she found out I was actually dating someone, but we can use the condoms too if you want.”
 “I mean…uh…” were you really having a conversation about birth control methods? You supposed it was the adult thing to do. “If you think we should, we can.”
 (Y/N) turned in the seat to fully look at you then. “Ok, so this will probably sound stupid.” Your head bobbed back and forth between the road and the girl you were in love with.
 “(Y/N), nothing you say is stupid. You’re the smartest person I know.”
 She leaned over and kissed your cheek. “Thanks,” she took a deep breath. “Anyhow, I kind of don’t want to use a condom if we don’t have to, at least this time.” You weren’t quite following her thinking so you remained silent for her to explain. “Like, it’s both our first times, so there’s not a chance of us getting a sexually transmitted disease or anything. We just really have to worry about getting pregnant. Which since I’m on the pill, and before you say anything, I take it the same time every day, so no worries there. I think we’re safe on that account.” You nodded your agreement, for it was just like (Y/N) to be so precise about something. “But the real reason I don’t want you to use it is…” she hesitated, almost as if she was embarrassed to tell you why. She certainly had to know that there was nothing to be ashamed of, especially with what the two of you were about to do.
 “Just tell me (Y/N). I promise I won’t laugh or make fun of you or anything.” You squeezed her hand giving her a little added courage.
 “I just want to feel you.” Her face started to turn a combination of pink and red, which looked totally adorable on her. “You know nothing in between us. I just really want to know what it feels like.” Fuck, you wanted that too.
 “Yeah, that does sound nice.” You tried to downplay it though inside you were a jumble of nerves now, and thinking about what it would feel like to be inside her only made those magnify. What if you spent the moment your cock dipped inside her pussy? What if she didn’t cum? There were so many thoughts whirling around in your head, that you were ready to explode, and in more ways than one.
 “So, then you agree? No condom.” (Y/N) asked you, drawing you back to the present.
 “Yeah, no condom.” The car grew silent again and you could feel your hand sweating as it held (Y/N)’s. There was only about another half-hour left in the drive. “So, where were you thinking to get something to eat.” You changed the subject hoping to take both of your minds off what would happen later. You stopped off at a little burger joint that (Y/N)’s family always went to when they were in town. You couldn’t stop grinning at each other all through the meal. It was really quite ridiculous.
 Afterward, you headed over to the house. You carried both your bags in. “Umm…where should I put these?”
 “Oh, I don’t really have a bedroom here. I just sleep in one of the guest rooms, so we can just use one of them. They’re upstairs.” You followed her up the stairs, as she led the way to the bedroom. Inside was a massive four-poster king-size bed that had curtains draping down from it. Both of you just sort of stared at it for a full minute, letting the weight of what was about to happen sink in. “You can just put our stuff over there.” She pointed to the window that had two chairs sitting by it.
 It was late in the afternoon and you weren’t really sure if you should wait until dark to do this or start now. Everything felt too planned out, except for the exact timing. “Did you want to…” you trailed off, unable to put your thoughts into words.
 “Oh…umm…yeah,” (Y/N) answered and you took a step closer to her. Your hands went to her waist, as you pulled her closer to you, before dipping your head down to kiss her lips. It was awkward, just like it had been the first time you kissed, but then your tongue slipped inside her mouth and you felt her melt into you. She pulled back though suddenly. “Oh, I almost forgot.” She stepped over to her bag, rifling around inside. “I brought these.” She pulled out a couple of glass candles. “I thought…well I don’t know what I thought, but you know, they always have them lit in the movies.”
 You smiled over at her, taking a couple of them and setting them on the nightstand and dresser. “Do you have something to light them with?”
 “Oh, one sec.” She took off downstairs and you could hear her rummaging around the empty house. You gazed at the bed. Should you turn the covers down? Maybe take some of the pillows off? You were contemplating what to do when (Y/N) came back in. “I found a couple more, and this.” She held out a pack of matches and you took them, lighting the candles that she’d placed throughout the room. She pulled the blinds down on the windows and it cast the room in a romantic glow, which reminded you of the item you brought to add to the romance.
 You pulled your mp3 player out of your bag and found the love song list you’d created for tonight and turned it on. You prayed that (Y/N) wouldn’t think that it was cheesy. When you finally turned around, she had the most adorable smile on her face. As you took the couple steps to close the distance between the two of you, she took a step back, and suddenly all those nerves from the car ride were back. “There’s just one more thing.” This time she grabbed her bag and headed into the bathroom.
 While she was in there, you shucked off your shoes, then decided to get rid of your socks as well, since it would just be awkward to have them on. Grabbing the small bottle of Listerine, you had packed, you swished it around in your mouth then looked around for someplace to spit it out. There wasn’t any, so you just swallowed the small amount, coughing as you did. Lastly, you threw off the sweatshirt you had on. The fewer clothes you had to take off the better was your thought. You were tugging down the plain black t-shirt you had on, when (Y/N) stepped back into the bedroom, clad in a short silk robe. Your mouth went dry. Thoughts of what was underneath or what wasn’t filled your brain, both the one in your head and down below. Fuck, you needed to think of something else or this was going to end before it even started. You tamped down the lust that was threatening to boil over and walked towards (Y/N). “You look,” you shook your head trying to come up with the right word but there was only one. “Beautiful.”
 “Thanks,” she mumbled back as a blush stained her cheeks. “I’m nervous.”
 “Me too,” you admitted and you wiped your palms off before reaching for her. They slid around her waist then up her back as you looked her in the eyes. “Are you sure?”
 “Yeah,” she breathed out knowing that you were asking if she still wanted to have sex. You kissed her then like you had so many times in the past. Her arms slid up around your neck and you deepened the kiss. When you heard her moan, you let your hands roam to the belt of her robe, which came easily undone. Your hands roamed up her sides where you felt her lace bra. You were dying to know what she looked like in it. All the times that you and (Y/N) had done anything sexual together, she’d never been completely naked nor had you. It was always something hurried in the back of your car or on the couch when no one was home. Now though, you could drink your fill of her as you were alone with nothing and no one to interrupt you.
 Gently, you pulled back from the kiss so you could gaze at her. Her body was covered in white lace, and you wondered if she had done it on purpose; sort of a nod to giving her virginity away to you. Unconsciously, you licked your lips as you took in the swell of her breasts and the curve of her hips. She was sheer perfection. “Damn,” you hissed out. “How did I get so lucky?” She giggled at your comment then let the robe slide off her shoulders; the view now even better than a second ago and you were finding it hard to breathe.
 You felt yourself get hard just standing there staring at her. “Jame,” she said breaking you out of the spell.
 “Yeah…uh…sorry.” You blinked hard, then took her hand and led her over to the bed, where you kissed her again. Slowly, you leaned her back onto the mattress, as your body hovered over hers. This part was nothing new, you’d made out with (Y/N) hundreds of times. It was what came next you were unsure of. Her hands slid under your shirt, and she bunched it up so that you could climb out of it. It fell to the ground somewhere in the bedroom. She then reached for the button on your jeans, but you knew if she took them off now, you’d be done. So, you rolled her to her side and followed her, unclasping her bra the minute her back was free. Your legs tangled with hers and you felt her hips gently rock into your thigh. She wanted this just as much as you did but you needed to make it good.
 Last night, you’d pulled Jordie aside and told him of your plans, purely so you could ask his advice. He’d chirped you, of course, for not having done the deed with (Y/N) sooner. But when you threatened to just leave, he stopped. He gave you a ton of information, go down on her first to help her relax, make sure she was wet before you even tried to stick your dick in her, go slow because it will probably hurt her, and the last bit was, make sure you didn’t bust your load too soon. The last part was the one you were truly worried about.
 (Y/N)’s bra now forgotten, you focused your attention there as you twisted both of your bodies so that she was now lying flat on her back. Kissing your way down her neck, you first took one nipple and then the other into your mouth. She moaned and it went straight to your groin. Thank god you still had your jeans on or you’d had spent right then and there. There were times you’d spend a good hour, just toying with breast but tonight was not going to be one of them. Working your way down her stomach, you kissed her right above where her panties were. The cute little white lace panties barely covered her pussy, and your mouth salivated just thinking about tasting her. You hooked your fingers around the elastic at the side, then started to shimmy them over her hips. (Y/N) rose up to help you rid herself of the flimsy garment.
 Setting back on your heels, you drank in the sight of her bare body. You’d never seen her totally naked before, so you took a moment to just drink in the sight of her. One leg slightly bent, her arms off to the sides, but fidgeting as you gazed at her. “Jamie?” Her voice wobbled slightly and you could tell you were making her somewhat nervous, yet you couldn’t take your eyes off her.
 “Sorry,” you said a blush coming to your cheeks. “You’re just…perfect.” She smiled, then sat up, grabbing the back of your neck and pulling you in for a kiss that had you wanting more. “Lie back,” you told her after kissing her breathless. She did and you took your hands and glided them from her ankles to her inner thighs; spreading her legs wide, so you could settle in between what you knew was your own little piece of heaven on earth. You grinned up at her before laying your tongue flat against her sweet little pussy, then licking between her folds. Her hips bucked forward even at the first contact. Your smile growing wider knowing that you were turning her on. You couldn’t help looking up at her as you flicked your tongue back and forth over her clit. Her hands fisted into the sheets and she moaned out something that you couldn’t quite hear.
 Spreading her pussy lips with your fingers, you dipped your tongue inside her. “Jamie,” she cried out, and then you felt her hands threading through your hair urging you to continue. She tasted so sweet as you licked up and down her slit then flicked her clit. When she was wet and wanting more, you slid a finger inside her, mimicking what you wanted to do with your cock. Just the thought of being able to slide it into her warm and wet pussy had your cock hardening to granite. Fuck, you needed to get her off, so that you could feel her wrap around your dick before you lost your load. You made that come-hither motion, finding that spongy little spot up inside her. “Oh God,” she moaned out and you felt her legs start to tremble, as your hands kept them from clamping down on your head. Your tongue worked tirelessly on her little nub, alternating between flicking and sucking on it, as you fingered her. “I’m gonna…cum.” (Y/N) barely got the last word out and you felt her pussy spasm around your finger while her whole body bucked upwards. You felt a rush of wetness hit your lips and as much as you wanted to lick up every bit of her essence; you didn’t.
 She slowly came back to reality with you, as you moved back up the length of her body until your lips were locked with hers. This time when her hands went to your waist you didn’t stop her as she undid first the button then the zipper. (Y/N) tried to help you shimmy out of your jeans but it was no use, so you rolled off her and wiggled out of them yourself. Her giggle went straight to your groin. “We have time, Jame.” You knew she was right but this was a moment you’d been waiting for, for a while now. You tossed the jeans and then your boxer briefs to the floor, before rolling on your side to face (Y/N).
 “I know…it’s just…” you couldn’t quite put it into words, but she nodded her understanding, bringing her hand to your cheek and slowly kissing you. Your hand roamed up her bare back, pressing her close against your skin. She felt so soft and supple in your hands, and you rolled her onto her back, your body looming over hers as your lips and tongues molded together. She moaned into your mouth, and you broke the kiss looking down at her. There was a questioning look in her eyes at your actions. “Are you sure you want to do this? You can tell me no right now and we’ll stop.” It would kill you, but all (Y/N) had to do was say the word.
 “I want this Jamie. I want you.” She cupped your face and brought it down to mere inches above hers. “I love you.”
 Your lips spread into the widest smile that ever graced your face and it had nothing to do with her saying yes to sex. “I love you too, (Y/N),” you told her and although they were only five words, they were the truest thing you’d ever spoken in your life. This wasn’t some fleeting crush that a sixteen-year-old boy had on a girl. This was true love in every sense of the word. You’d known your feelings for her the first time you’d met, now they were just intensified and what would happen next would bind you two together.
 Her legs fell open, letting you work your way between them. Taking your cock in your hand, you slid it in between her damp pussy lips. She gasped, breaking the kiss and allowing you to stare into her eyes. “Let me know if I’m hurting you,” you hissed out as you nudged forward just an inch. Her walls surrounded your cock and it felt like heaven. Jordie was right, you just wanted to push all the way into her and shoot your load, but you couldn’t or wouldn’t do that to (Y/N). This had to be good for her too. She bit her lip, which made you wonder if she was in pain or if it felt as wonderful for her as it did for you. Another inch forward and you felt a barrier in your way. You knew enough about the female anatomy to know what it was and that going forward would change everything, not only for (Y/N) but you too. You leaned down and gave her another kiss, hoping to ease some of the tension that you could feel coursing through her body. When you felt her relax a bit into the kiss, you pressed all the way forward burying yourself deep inside her. (Y/N) froze and you pulled your head back to look at her, as all the blood in your body went directly to your penis. It took every ounce of your being, not to move. Sweat beading across your forehead as you asked, “Are you ok?” You couldn’t tell if she was breathing or not. She had to be, right?
 Finally, she inhaled deeply and it was as if you were taking a breath with her as the two of you were finally joined as one. “I think so…I...just need a second.” God, you weren’t sure you could last that long. Her breathing started to even out, as yours became irregular trying to keep your body in check. “I think…” she wiggled and you hissed in a breath. “Yeah…I’m ok…maybe if you…” she didn’t finish what she was saying as your hips moved of their own accord, just a thrust in and out.
 “Fuck.” You were cursing more at yourself for moving than anything else, but damn if she didn’t feel good.
 “It’s ok,” (Y/N) moaned out, her arms reaching around to your back urging you on. “Keep doing that.” Those words were like music to your ears and you found yourself surging forward back into the warm cavernous heat of her pussy, then pulling back out.
 “God you feel so…” Good, just didn’t seem like the right word, but at the same time, your brain wasn’t exactly looking for another one. Your cock started to twitch, your balls getting that familiar tightening. You couldn’t cum, not yet, you’d only been inside her for a few minutes. You wanted this to last longer; wanted her to cum too, but there was no more fighting it. “I think I’m…”
 “Yes, Jame, cum inside me.” That’s all it took and you thrust one last time before shooting your load in her as she reached up and kissed your neck. Stars clouded your vision, as your climax hit you. A strangled groan leaving your lips. You’d never came that hard in your life, as you collapsed on top of her.
 It took a second for you to basically regain consciousness. “Shit, I’m sorry. I’m probably crushing you.”
 (Y/N) laughed. “Actually, I kind of like it.” Your laughter joined hers until you started to wonder if it was appropriate for sex. You could feel your cock softening inside her, so slid it out of her as you rolled to your side. She whimpered slightly.
 “Fuck, baby, did I hurt you?”
 “No, I mean…it was a little uncomfortable at first but…then it felt so good.” She was on her side now gazing at you.
 You brushed a stray lock of hair off her face. “Sorry, I couldn’t last longer, so you could…well you know.” It still felt awkward talking about getting off, even after what the two of you had just done.
 “Don’t be. It felt good, Jame…really good….and maybe,” she ducked her head down into your chest, suddenly shy and mumbled something incoherent.
 “Babe,” you said, lifting her chin with your thumb and index finger. “I can’t hear what you said.”
 There was the cutest blush on her cheeks. “I just thought…maybe we could do it again. Like later tonight and well maybe tomorrow before we leave.” You couldn’t believe what you were hearing, her words were like a dream come true. Damn right, you wanted to do it again; as many times as she’d let you.
 “Yeah, baby. I definitely want that.” Your lips connected with her, and after what the two of you had just shared, (Y/N) not only stole your heart, but your soul. That night you made love to her again, only then you made sure she came with you, just like you did in the morning before you left. Those twenty-four hours would forever be embedded in your brain and your heart, and as you dropped her off at her friend's house, so she could maintain her cover you knew that you would love only (Y/N) for the rest of your life.
 Now, here she was fourteen long years later back in your arms. You shook yourself making sure that you weren’t dreaming. She still looked the same, only better; all hips and curves and things that made men lay awake dreaming about at night. As you took in her features, it struck you then. All those other women the ones you’d found something wrong with all the time; didn’t have anything wrong at all. It was just, they weren’t (Y/N). They were only filling a void from the time that you’d ruined everything until now. She was the woman that everyone else had to measure up to, only now she was someone else’s. Fuck, the thought made your head spin. Had it truly taken fourteen years to get her back only to lose her?
 “Hello, Jamie,” she finally spoke and her voice washed over you taking you back to that day and the way she’d called out your name when you were inside her. Your cock hardened instantaneously. She was pressed close to your body and you wondered if she could feel it.
 “It’s so good to see you.” They were the first words out of your mouth that made sense but they were also the most truthful. It was just too bad that the look on her face didn’t reflect the same. “Sorry, I’m just in shock seeing you is all.”
 “No, I get it.” She replied. “Do you live around here?”
 “Uh…Yeah, I’m the white house right there.”
 “Oh,” she seemed to be taken back by this knowledge, which was probably understandable. Especially given the fact that her husband was going to be your new team doctor. Nothing like having your ex be your new neighbor.
 “What about you? What are you doing in Dallas?” Though you knew the answer, you needed to hear the words come out of her mouth as confirmation, for until you did; you held out that small hope that there was a chance to make things right again.
 “Um…well.” It was then that she stepped out of your embrace. You hadn’t realized how naturally she fit back in your hands and that of their own accord they didn’t seem to want to let go. “I just moved here.”
 “Kind of got that with the moving truck and all,” you replied, your hand going to the back of your neck at your awkward comment, though she did smile at your words.
 “Yeah, I suppose that did give it away.” She shifted her weight from one foot to another. It was a nervous habit of hers that you remember from back in the day.
 “It was hard to miss, but I knew the old owner quite well since he was our team doctor. In fact, I heard our new doc was moving in. I guess I’ll be seeing you and your husband around more.” There you’d finally said it. It was like ripping a bandaid off. Sure, it hurt and all but once it was off the sting started to fade, only this time it didn’t, as a look of confusion crossed her face.
 “Husband?”
 “Oh sorry, my bad. I just assumed you were married. Fiancé then?” Either way, it was going to be awkward as hell seeing her at games and functions, let alone out in their yard. Maybe you’d need to look for a different place. Tyler had just moved recently, you’d have to get the name of his realtor.
 A look crossed her face, and you remembered seeing it once before. It was when you’d tried to talk to her after the whole gossip fiasco. She was angry and you had no clue what you said to make her that way, but this was not how you wanted the conversation to go. “I’m not married or engaged, for that matter.” So it must be a boyfriend then, though that didn’t explain her displeasure with you at the moment.
 “Geez, (Y/N), I’m really sorry. I just assumed that for you to move all the way here you’d be engaged or married to the guy.”
 “There is no guy Jamie. I’m the new doctor.” A look of shock crossed over your face. Why hadn’t anyone told you she’d gone to study medicine? The obvious answer being you tended not to ask about her when you were back home, only because it hurt too much to think about her being with someone else. Though she wasn’t with someone else, it was just her, and she was now your team doctor, who you’d see almost every day. “I can’t believe that you’d think the only reason I’d move her was for a guy. Incredible! You haven’t changed one bit have you?”
 “It wasn’t…I didn’t…” She started walking away, just like before when you’d tried to explain what had actually happened. “I just assumed…”
 “Yeah, Jame, you just assumed! That what, I couldn’t be smart enough to earn the MD after my name, or that I’m still only good enough for a quick roll in the hay.” You went to answer but she held up her hand and took a deep breath. “Save it, Jamie. I’m a professional and that’s what I’ll be when I see you at the arena or out, but other than that…we have nothing to say.” With that, she left you standing there speechless as she jogged back up her driveway and into the house. And here you thought you had a second chance, that things weren’t totally ruined between you two. Maybe they weren’t. If anything, her position on the team, meant that you’d be seeing a lot of each other, something you were definitely ok with. You might have messed up all those years ago, and somewhat today, but now you had a chance to turn everything around. Maybe things weren’t quite ruined….yet.
