Queer Prompt of the day:
“Hey, listen-I already know and I’m totally cool with it-”
“Wait, you know??”
“X, it’s really obvious.”
“What?! So everyone knows I’m gay?!”
“...YOU’RE GAY? I thought you were a werewolf!”
“YOU KNOW I’M A WEREWOLF?!”

I'm asking you because I've seen people ask you similar questions before. Why are kobolds, as a fantasy creature, so nebulous?
Generally when people say orc, goblin, elf, dwarf, werewolf, vampire etc. a person can have a pretty solid idea of what traits that animal will have. I guess because they're usually copying that species from the same similar source works?
What happened to kobolds? I used to know them as a kind of german folklore creature, but then also as a short lizard person, and most recently there's been Dungeon Meshi, which gives the name kobold to anthropomorphic dogs.
Well, the trick is that none of these terms have a standard definition. In folklore, the words "elf", "dwarf", "gnome", "troll", "goblin", "pixie", etc. are used more or less interchangeably – all of these words might refer to the exact same folkloric critter, and conversely, the same word might be used to refer to several completely different folkloric critters, even within the same body of regional folklore, to say nothing of how their usage varies across different regions and over time.
Literally the only reason any of these terms have "standard" definitions in modern popular culture is because one specific piece of media got mega-popular and everybody copied it. For example, Tolkien is responsible not only for the popular media stereotypes of elves and dwarves: he's responsible for popularising the idea that "elf" and "dwarf" are separate kinds of creatures to begin with. Similarly, while Bram Stoker's Dracula isn't solely responsible for cementing the idea of what a vampire is in popular culture, it did standardise what vampire magic can do, and it helped cement the idea that a "vampire" and a "werewolf" are different beasties, which hasn't always been the case.
So the short answer is that there's just never been a mega-popular work about "kobolds" to provide a standard template for the type. Most modern depictions in Anglophone popular culture ultimately point back to the interpretation set forth by Dungeons & Dragons, but D&D itself has gone back and forth on the whether they're tiny dog-people or tiny lizard-people, with the tiny dog-person version being the earlier of the two, so even folks who are directly cribbing from D&D will vary on this point depending on which particular edition they're name-checking.

I love the entire concept of Cookie... the look, the fashion, the gender... Would you mind telling us a little more about him? I'm also intrigued about why she's named Cooking with Gorgeous!
HI i would LOVE to talk about george thank you so much. also this makes me realize i've never actually sat down and just made a post unabashedly infodumping at length abt an oc before and it seems silly that i haven't. i ask only for all dear readers to please temper their expectations for this post with the knowledge that i just smoked half a joint before sitting down to answer it. a small one. but still. anyway
FIRST OF ALL FOR THE UNACQUAINTED THIS IS COOKING WITH GORGEOUS, aka cookie or george for short. he uses he/him and she/her pronouns interchangeably!
Tumblr media
hi sorry that's not cookie that's a horse in a bridal veil that i. found in my stuff while trying to scroll and find my cookie art. i just got distracted and had to show you. okay no for real here's cookie
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he's the character i'm playing in a playtest campaign of the absolutely mesmerizing sapphicworld, an in-development ttrpg!!! and if i'm going to be talking about cookie i feel like i HAVE to say i think a huge amount of her charm and dazzle and charisma comes directly from the charm and dazzle and charisma of the setting i created her for. i know i am laying it on really thick right now but that is on purpose. i want, desperately and unashamedly, for this game to get really popular bc 1. it's genuinely that good. and it's not even DONE yet and 2. i want everyone to get into it so that everyone will make sapphicworld characters and then i'll get to see everyone's sapphicworld characters.
EDIT i'm scrolling back up here and adding a readmore bc this is already getting so long lol. you asked for "a little more" and apparently i have graciously decided this means "literally every fact about cookie that exists in my brain"
SO a lot of the info/tidbits i haven't shared about cookie are i guess gameplay-specific stuff... his title (which is like a class/playbook) is "The Noble Sweetheart," though in sapphicworld "nobility" no longer has anything to do with wealth or class, and is instead entirely about amassing a court purely via devotion/popularity; her subculture (which is like, Who You Hang Out With; drifters, goths, poets, debauchers, cowpokes, etc) is Babe; and her kind (which is like ancestries but in sapphicworld is really just like, a physical form, which u can change more or less at will) is Lunarthrope, which is basically a werewolf!! or more broadly a furry, since u always look like whatever were-animal you are 24/7. just MORE at night, tho i suppose i don't represent that aspect much in my cookie art... ANYWAY i am restraining myself from just sitting here and like. transcribing her entire character sheet. but basically what all this means is that cookie's role in the world (at least at the beginning of the campaign) is "Professionally — no, VOCATIONALLY Hot Person who everyone loves so so so so so so much." cookie really enjoys this role.
he's named cooking with gorgeous because he's an avid cook, and he wants to share that with you, and he's gorgeous!! though honestly the cooking hasn't ended up as important to his character as it was when i first came up with him, lol — but my initial concept was kind of like, what's the equivalent of a bouncy normie recipe blogger/lifestyle influencer but in the context of the lush horny trans deathless psychedelic universe of sapphicworld. and it's cooking with gorgeous, a doggirl dyke with big blue boobs (six of them!!) who is so devastatingly cute and darling that a bunch of people just kind of pledge their fealty to him for no real reason other than he feeds them. and is cute
also her name is def influenced by the fantastic names of many canon sapphicworld npcs! like, quick example list of some npc names off the top of my head: the booty commie, death cybernetic, princess eureka!, the culinary goof (whom cookie dislikes. btw.), pizza friday (whom cookie loves!!!)
cookie is very very determined, and she's ALMOST always very confident. even when she isn't feeling confident, she's still very good at forcing herself to keep putting one foot in front of the other — maybe just while screaming or crying or uncontrollably barking or at least very ardently complaining. he has a tendency to be spoiled and, like, tactless-via-obliviousness, so sometimes he can be grating to interact with, and he has a petty/vindictive streak; but in general he's an AGGRESSIVELY kind person and usually aims all his shrill, cheerful stubbornness directly toward the goal of refusing to accept anything but the best for everyone.
at the beginning of our campaign cookie has JUST received a brand new castle!!!! (chateau gorgeous.) which he doesn't actually "own" bc, remember, no wealth or class in sapphicworld, but he's the ENTHUSIASTIC new caretaker and is chomping at the bit to renovate it so ppl can live there and he can throw a bunch of magnificent parties and basically continue living exactly as he has been, But Even More Fabulous. obviously this is exactly when the main plot threat of the campaign shows up and spoils everything and compels cookie to go on his First Ever Adventure!!!!!! she HAS to save the world otherwise NOBODY will be able to go to the first big party at chateau gorgeous :((((
at this point to prevent myself from just like, giving you guys a play by play of the entire campaign so far i am going to just start listing every cookie fact i can think of as bullet points
🎀 he owns a magical sword in the shape of a giant microplane. it's called The Microplane. he pronounces this "mee-crow-plah-nay"
🎀 george desperately wants to resurrect The Dog-Lich, an entity that once ruled over all beasts from its palace on the moon but was murdered and torn to pieces in a cosmic war far in the past. her attitude towards this desire is 50% devoted lunar cultist, 50% parasocially obsessive twitter stan
🎀 this isn't really a cookie fact but going back to how his title is The Noble Sweetheart — just for a glimpse at party composition, his fellow party members' titles are The Intimate Scholar, The Tentacle Advocate, and The Tw*nk Controversial (the * is the canon spelling).
Tumblr media
^ aforementioned tw*nk. its name is Mwah ("pronounced like the kiss you blow at someone you just fucked over"). mwah is played by @/squiddelyfather on twitter!
🎀 mwah and cookie used to be very, very tight, BEFORE mwah became the tw*nk controversial. now that it's so.... you know.... controversial, well. they're still very close, but it has gotten a little stilted and weird (and watching them slowly un-weird it together as the campaign goes on has been one of my fav roleplay experiences ever honestly)
🎀 cookie's other adventuremates, skarligge and delaryn, are both very indulgent towards him. delaryn acts the most grumpy/dismissive about it but is honestly sometimes the worst about spoiling cookie out of anyone in the party (skarligge's player is twt@/clown_dream and delaryn's is twt@/glaiveguisarme and hey while im at it our fantastic gm is the sapphicworld dev, twt@/ddemoneclipse. hi guys i hope u don't mind me chattering abt ur ocs here lol it's just hard to talk abt the best of cookie w/o bringing up everyone else's characters and roleplay also!!!)
🎀 cookie is very VERY sensitive and will burst into tears at the drop of a hat. the precursor to this is her eyes getting So So So Big And Wet And Round. one of my favorite bits to menace the other party members with is when something is not going cookie's way i will lean into my mic and say "cookie's eyes are getting so so so big. they're getting so big and wet and round and shiny. they're so so round and fucking big her eyes are like big wet black glass marbles" and this is like kryptonite to them. this is like getting hit with deadly radiation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🎀 oh speaking of fashion!!!! one of cookie's perks from being a Babe is that she can always change her look whenever she wants. she will ALWAYS have whatever outfit she needs and can quickchange instantly. wait this reminds me i have a bunch of seasonal holiday outfits sketched out and i don't think i've ever posted them here but it'll only let me put one more image in this post. well here have this one
Tumblr media
🎀 okay well suddenly i have forgotten all other george facts so that's all for now!!! from now on i will try to just dump oc facts like this more often tho this is really fun. ty for getting me going lol!!!

A videogame I would fucking adore.
Set in a modern-day wizarding world, but it's super dark and gory. Pretty much GTA but with wizard shit, gang shit and EXTREME violence. The Den is the safehouse where you do business and stuff, and you can play as both Marvolo and Rowan interchangeably.
Marvolo uses magic and dark violent spells to kill, Rowan doesn't use magic, but you can shift in and out of his werewolf form.
And the idea is basically becoming the ultimate leading gang by recruiting other dark wizard's and witches and whatnot, and destroying other rival gangs completely
I would play that shit over and over again. 🤣

Speaking of breakdown hours, I am forever indebted to Robbie for bringing a loup garou into the Supernatural lore. Settle in for my very annoying screeching about this.
Supernatural used a monster called a rugaru, which always seemed to be a bafflingly misspelled version of rougarou. However, the lore was painfully far from the actual mythology. It has always bugged me because this is a story I grew up on. Sitting by the campfire being told to be good or the rougarou might get ya.
Loup garou is the French version of werewolf. It was passed down by the Acadians who settled in Louisiana after Le Grand Derangement, the forcible relocation of French settlers from Canada.
As with much of Cajun French and culture, the myth took on unique traits as it developed here. One was the transition from the formal French word loup garou to the Cajun word rougarou. Many people use the word interchangeably today, but I would argue rougarou is more common here because it is rooted in this place.
The rougarou is said to be a man with a wolf or dog head (rather than a true wolf transition). There are a few different myths. In some, the rougarou is a scary story for children. Be good or the rougarou will get ya! In others, the rougarou either goes after those who break lent or is a curse on those who do so.
There is also a delightful part if the legend that you can defeat a rougarou by putting 13 objects down. It will try to count them and when it can't, it will turn away.
I have always thought there was a rich opportunity to use the aspects of guilt or religious trauma in Supernatural for this particular beast and I have been sad that the myth was essentially turned into a genetic cannibal beast curse entirely unrelated with the underlying lore.
Having a traditional werewolf-like loup garou feels like a gift to me personally. I hope this doesn't awaken any fics in me. 😆

Monster AU - Colloquialisms [P1 A]
[P1 side note A: why can't I just call a vampire a vampire]
Why not just call a vampire a vampire?
I mean, you can, but that can contribute to a prevalent (if seemingly innocuous) issue that puts you, dear (or not dear) reader, at risk - the unfortunate consequences of generalisation, miscategorisation, and the ever-prominent implications of... colloquialisms.
Now, I already touched upon this in the main post and pretty much explained why it matters, but I want to go a little more in-depth as to how there are potential downsides to the lack of taxonomical classification.
A colloquialism is, as defined by Oxford Languages, "a word or phrase that is not formal or literary, typically one used in ordinary or familiar conversation." In other words, a word is a colloquialism when it is an informal variation of a word that would be used in more formal contexts.
For example, the way that humans refer to all creatures in the genus Vulpes as 'foxes', which are a separate genus from dogs, but the term 'canine' is used for both the subfamily Caninae and as a word simply referring to dogs - which can lead to the confusion that dogs and foxes are, loosely, 'the same thing'.
There's also, similarly, the way humans call Ailurus fulgens 'red panda' and Ailuropoda melanoleuca the 'giant panda' although the two are not evolutionarily close as the giant panda is considered a bear and the red panda is not a bear. Referring to both the giant and red panda as 'panda' is likely to confuse people into thinking that they're both panda bears (as the bear is a bit more familiar on a broader scale) when they're not.
There are issues here that mirror the problems that only using colloquialisms brings (which is why I'm adamant about at least trying to classify and distinguish as pretty much the only cryptotaxonomist I happen to be aware of).
What I'm saying is that when colloquialisms are used to generalise (and then, conversely, generalised terms are applied and associated with one individual of the category), important nuance can be lost. This is especially true and important to acknowledge when it comes to dealing with cryptians (monster is a colloquialism, too, and a pretty derogatory one at that merely because of how it’s negatively used, but it’s the most common way to refer to them), especially because it then concerns a category of powerful creatures not comprehensively understood (as cryptoscience is considered pseudoscience).
If you don't quite understand, allow me to illustrate with an example:
"Vampire" is a colloquialism for a group encompassing sanguisuges, a plethora of distinctly different blood-drinking creatures.
Pop culture has done a real bang-up job of conjuring up an image of what a “vampire” is to people, particularly in the West. Pop culture would have you believe that a cryptian with fangs that drinks blood is a vampire, weak to garlic, sunlight, and crosses.
Now go ahead and try that with Risotto Nero, an Italian, and see how well that works out for you. (Hint: IT WILL NOT WORK OUT WELL!!! (I'D ADVISE USING A COMPASS!! OR BETTER YET MAYBE JUST DONT GET IN A FIGHT WITH THE MAN!! NOT GETTING IN FIGHTS WITH ASSASSINS IS ALSO AN OPTION!!!!!!) Do NOT rely on pop culture to elucidate to you the weaknesses of a species!!!! EVER!!!!)
Vampires are called different things in different places because, by and large, there are so many different kinds of vampires and the different names generally refer to different kinds. They have different abilities, different weaknesses, different existences.
Pop cultural depictions will probably have you colloquialising lycanthropes as 'werewolves', thus making the assumption that all lycanthropes come out in the full moon and revert in the morning, and that the big wolf werewolves are just the same as the humanoid ones. THEY'RE NOT. FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK NOT ALL LYCANTHROPES ARE WEREWOLVES! I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! "WEREWOLF" AND "LYCAN" ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE! They're so fucking different!!!!
It is SO important to make the distinction so that YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DEALING WITH! THAT'S why you don't just call a sanguisuge a vampire!
Just to elaborate on one example of many; because of the generalisation issue, while there are werewolves (and lycans!) who ONLY change by the full moon and revert by daybreak, people (believers, usually ones who are not monster-friendly) apply this logic to all lycanthropes and go out on nights that aren't the full moon like 'i'm not gonna run into a werewolf it's not the full moon' WRONG, SUCKER!!! Some werewolves turn EVERY NIGHT! And a lot of lycans DON'T HAVE EXCLUSIVELY MOON-BASED TRANSFORMATION!!! The Full Moon is just the only night that ALL ZOOANTHROPES, including both lycans and werewolves, WILL ALWAYS TRANSFORM! And it's ALSO when they're more active and aggressive which is why the public perception assumes werewolves turn on the full moon and always become aggressive in lycanthropic form! Because the Full Moon is when most lycanthrope attacks HAPPEN! Because it's the only GUARANTEED SHIFT TRIGGER! AND THE MOST LIKELY CONDITIONS TO INDUCE LUNACY! (more on lunacy and moonsickness later when I divert from the taxonomy and document other stuff too.)
(And please don't EVER think that wolfsbane will keep you safe from lycanthropes!!!! Wolfsbane is fucking poisonous, btw, and you can absorb it through the skin and fucking die, so I would recommend just staying away from it! IT DOESN'T EVEN REPEL LYCANTHROPES. IT'S MORE LIKELY TO SEND THEM INTO A FRENZY. It is SO fucking dangerous!!!!)

What bonus power could mantis and bee get if they was part of the Wu Xing? And what could be goat, rooster, dog and horse if they are in bagua?
For Bee, I'd probably give Beenevolence, a mass restoration power. Honestly, that sort of power is something I feel should be the one repeated amongst Miraculous, but for how I set things up, it can be achieved through Pollination as it's commanding magical bees. You're just going to be a little overrun with plants.
Mantis would've had... Ancient History, allowing you to look upon the timeline, seeing all of what is past.
For Goat... Full Color. I have it as the Miraculous of Animation, so this power can bring motion to the motionless, animate statues, toys, the dead, ect..
Rooster, Inside Story, allowing you to travel inside a piece of writing like they're little pocket dimensions. Whole new definition of getting immersed in a book.
Dog... I actually don't know. The expanded Fetch covers so much with Dog in terms of symbolism and myth, I never really thought about what else could go with it. Um... I guess if we want to play off Wolf and have Dog be one of those Miraculous that could be interchangeable, could could do something that turns you into a werewolf, or maybe having someone being haunted/hounded? Idk.
Horse, if Rabbit didn't get the super speed, that could've gone to Horse as Horsepower. I guess... Haywire. Be a bold of electricity, manipulate electricity, travel through it, possibly into computers, the internet, games, ect.. But this was something a lightning Living Legend Dragon could do, so, that's why Horse's poll was skipped over.

Slender Man (a small debunking and hypothetical)
I am in several supernatural and folklore groups on Facebook and recently one of them had a thread about Slender Man full of misinformation.
In June 2009 Slender Man made his first appearance in memes and creepy-pastas. Eric Knudsen AKA Victor Surge is credited with creating the fictional character. The character was a tall, bone-white figure in a dapper suit. There were various forms of lore invented for the character. But the most annoying thing about this new character was the retroactive attempt to make him "folklore." For some 4chan members it was a game to convince people that Slender Man had always existed in lore and to get "Legitimate" cryptid sites to post about him as if he was potentially real. Lots of people fell for the 4chan related efforts to pretend that Slender Man always existed in folklore. One "origin" was "Der Gross Mann." ignoring that this is very bad German, this was an attempt to tie Slender Man to old European Giant folklore and many people (mostly Americans with limited knowledge of actual folklore) fell for it. I had thought this misinformation died down in the last fifteen or so years but this new Facebook thread I read had a lot of comments of "But he is folklore." and "My grandfather used to tell me stories about Slender Man." No. Honey. No, he didn't. And "But Slender Man dates back centuries!" and "But he is an actual cryptid. People have seen him!" There are many folkloric and even pop culture characters that helped inspire Slender Man. This includes The Boogey Man and even Jack Skellington from Nightmare before Christmas. Yes, the character created by twenty-something Tim Burton while working for Disney. To me Jack Skellington is an obvious inspiration. You have the bald, bone-white, extremely thin and tall, character, who apparently feeds on fear and can induce it easily.
Tumblr media
The only way Slender Man can be real is if you believe in the phenomena called the Tulpa effect. What is the Tulpa effect? Loosely based on the Tulpa concept from Buddhism, it is when a collective belief in something is so strong that the thing becomes real through belief alone. This concept has existed in parapsychology for a long time and has often gone unnamed. My first exposure to this concept came from an episode of The Real Ghostbusters animated where where the collective belief in Sherlock and Watson was so strong that it allowed them to manifest as ghost-like entities. In Neil Gaiman's The Sandman several entities of The Dreaming are the manifestation of the collective ideas of well-known characters of story. The condition of being a werewolf (a lycanthrope) and the condition of believing one is a werewolf (Lycanthropy) are interchangable because the belief can be so strong as to have physical manifestation such as increased strength and even hair growth. Pseudocyesis or Phantom pregnancy can also have physical manifestations because of the belief that the pregnancy is real is so strong. It is believed that the Tulpa effect can (through a collective belief) manifest an entity of fiction into retroactively becoming real in the present and past. And this happens simply because the belief is strong enough to conjure the being into existence in the present as well as the past. Well, once you realize Slender Man is at least partly probably inspired by Jack Skellington from Nightmare before Christmas, if the Tulpa Effect is real, let's hope you enjoy accidentally invoking a fear-preying anthropomorphic personification of Halloween who happens to sing like Danny Elfman. Also if the Tulpa effect is real, we probably created Count Dracula by now so you may want to stock up on garlic about now. You have fun with that.

bloodwritten silver fic - Chapter 1 Meta
--------
Other meta posts for this AU
Mid-fic meta (posted after chapter 5's release)
Fic end meta
--------
General thoughts and early fic notes
I’ve really liked the concept for this fic from the start. It’s one of the earliest AUs I came up with and actually started as two different fic ideas; one which was just about why Fade loves her shorty so much, and another one about a werewolf AU. It also originally started as a much closer AU to canon; as in the same storyline and world as the canon Protocol, but with Fade being a werewolf. In this version of the story, Neon heard a ruckus in Fade’s room and discovered her transformed into her wolf form, having lost control due to sleep deprivation. I eventually found that changing the world to something a bit more fitting to the theme to alter it to an almost Soulsborne or RE8 kind of fantasy world made it MUCH stronger. It’s kind of mid-modern; modern enough for people to have guns, but kind of medieval in tone and general… practices regarding monsters.
-
This fic centres around Fadeshock, but a large part of the plot will also revolve around Reyge. I won’t go into detail on this, you’ll see soon enough!
-
To clarify the difference between monsters and Radiants - Radiants are humans or humanoids with magical abilities, and monsters are inhuman creatures. Werewolves fall into an uncomfortable halfway point, and so most call them both interchangeably. Reyna heads a monster hunter guild which Neon works for, and Neon wasn’t comfortable killing Fade as she sees werewolves as more human than beast. It’s the difference between killing a wolf and a person who can turn into a wolf. She has no trouble killing a dragon which has begun to raid villages and hunt people, or a basilisk which is killing livestock, but she won’t kill a werewolf who’s only apparent crime was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. She also knows, though, that Reyna is a lot stricter on this topic than she is, and so she lied to cover her ass. She is also aware that the lines can blur and quickly become dangerous for her, even though she’s a Radiant herself, so she keeps herself hidden. It’s steady, stable work which she’s good at and pays well, but it is also dangerous and she’s very aware of that.
-
Silver perpetually injures monsters in this fic. If a monster is shot with a silver bullet the wound won’t clot and they’ll bleed out without treatment. The trap around Fade’s arm was silver and so it’s perpetually eating into her, especially since it was barbed and some of the barbs couldn’t be removed while Neon was cutting her loose. Silver is aggravating for monsters to touch, too - it burns them. This will be an important note later in this fic.
-
There is a reason Sage uses her code name while Neon, Fade, and Reyna all don’t! You’ll see why later on.
--------
Playlist
Again I’ll just share the song titles which are on my playlist, since I don’t know how to share a playlist while making the creator anonymous for my own privacy.
Devil’s Backbone - The Civil Wars (this is the primary theme song and I thought about making the title a lyric from it, but I wanted to stick to an original one for this fic, with this one taking one of the chapter titles instead)
Drops in the Lake - Lord Huron (another primary theme of this fic which took the final chapter’s title)
Just a Man - Jorge Rivera-Herrans, EPIC Ensemble
Karanlığın - VALORANT, Helin, ARB4
GET MINE - Holy Wars
Exhumed - Zola Jesus
Misery - Lucille Croft, BRVMES, TINYKVT
Carrion Flowers - Chelsea Wolfe
Electric Gold - Marion Aunor, Moophs
Wolf Like Me ft. Shovels & Rope - Lera Lynn, Shovels & Rope
Blood On My Name - The Brothers Bright
Cupid - Twin Ver. - FIFTY FIFTY
Stolas Sings - Caleb Hyles
VISIONS - VALORANT, eaJ, Safari Riot
Gravedigger - MXMS
Homeostasis - Nostalghia
You Can’t Judge a Book by the Cover - Ruby Ibarra
INFERNO - Sub Urban, Bella Poarch
REBEL TIME - MOONGA K., Sampa the Great
Boyfriend - Dove Cameron
Many of these were taken from the characters’ official playlists, curated by Riot themselves. I felt they were fitting for this AU especially; particularly Fade’s, as Neon is less… angsty in general. Some happier songs are on here too, though, as even though this fic has a darker tone, it’s still got some rom-com elements in there.

3, 10, 22 for jakesyb and sybeli? (or dealer's choice!)
f;laskdfjads someday i'll get around to making banners now that i have two syb x canon character ships that make me want to eat drywall, anyway eeeeeeeeeee thank you liz~
JAKESYB
3. Do they wear the other's clothes? (sweatshirt, bandana, necklace, etc.)
syb is a nasty dirty jacket/sweater thief and she looooooovees wearing her partner's clothes. i like to think that jacob has an army crewneck sweater that's fleece-lined and super soft that she absolutely loves (sorry not-sorry jacob. it's her sweater now), and her favorite set of "lingerie" is just a pair of panties and jacob's field jacket.
and asfl;akjsfdasdf syb's a little too uh...narrow for jacob to wear most of her clothing. altho i did just have the thought of the two of them owning the exact same iron maiden shirt (but in different sizes) that occasionally get mixed up in the wash so sometimes jacob is pulling on syb's unisex medium (which is comfortably baggy on her) and it's like he's wearing a tightly fitting crop top. meanwhile syb is using jacob's xl version of it as a sleep shirt
10. Describe their first date.
asdf;lkjasdf tbh in most universes jakesyb don't really date in the traditional sense. i joke that their first date (ie, an event that they mutually agree upon a time and place to meet) is a fistfight. they do have a snowed-in vacation at one point tho where they get pretty domestic so i guess that's kind of like a date....or at least as close as they get to one.
but in the no-cult "jakesyb country song romance au" they do actually have a proper first date. they're both at a church held party/celebration at joseph's church (augustine is a parishioner and dragged syb with him), and after both of them being super bored by how sterile the whole thing is, they decide to take off in jacob's truck, buy some beer, and they drive off into the mountains and just sit and stargaze. (they also fuck in the truck's bed, but most of the night is spent just chatting and pointing out things in the night sky
22. What reminds each of their partner?
ooooooh hmm....
wolves, obnoxious cherry red firearms, only you, the particular brand of Stupid that you get with guys who project alpha-male energy. but also late night chats over irish coffee (minus the sugar. it's just whiskey and black coffee) and cigarettes. the thrill of the hunt (as both the hunter and hunted). and the pleasurable ache of something pressing against a bruise are all things that remind syb of jacob
and rabbits/hares, bomber jackets that reek of stale cigarettes, late night war room talks, the thrill of the hunt (mostly as hunter but also sometimes as prey), absent minded humming (usually of old french songs), delicious warm and home cooked meals that aren't just baked chicken, rice and vegetables, the pleasant feeling of being challenged both physically and mentally are all things that remind jacob of syb
SYBELI
3. Do they wear the other's clothes? (sweatshirt, bandana, necklace, etc.)
same as above, syb steals eli's jacket constantly, but to be fair, eli steals her bomber jacket right back. there will be days where they're walking around the wolf's den wearing each other's clothes and no one really bats an eye. I also think when it comes to T-shirts and some tanks, they can wear each other's shirts fairly interchangeably. syb likes baggier fits and i imagine eli more on the leaner muscle (but still very strong) end of the spectrum. unisex mediums and larges get passed around constantly.
10. Describe their first date.
ooooooh ok so in katc they're very much stuck in the "under literally any other circumstances we could have been such a good couple" zone, so here are the two answers i have for an alternate timeline and the werewolf au:
au syb went into the whitetails looking for augustine first instead of going into the valley: i think there's a lot of purely one on one time between them that happens quite often (usually in the form of war table strategy meetings or "can't sleep, guess i'll keep watch on the security cams" kinds of hanging out together), but none of those moments really register to them as dates. that's just the "friends" bit in their "friends to lovers" arc. what they consider their first date is when they were out together on a scouting mission. they narrowly escape an ambush and crash at a safe house for the rest of the night because they're both injured. but they also have their first kiss while patching each other up. they pass out on the couch together immediately afterwards.
in the werewolf au syb and eli's first date is straight up a bbq challenge. like...unofficially an actual competition but waaaaaay more people showed up to the joke flyer wheaty put up at the spread eagle so they accidentally ended up grillmastering a proper event (sponsored by the spread eagle). eli won but syb put up a damn good fight. she had the superior grilled chicken/shrimp/fish, and eli had the better red meats/wild game. they were both lowkey worried their competitiveness was a turn off for the other, but actually it suuuuuuper wasn't :)
22. What reminds each of their partner?
short answers because i'm still kinda developing their relationship BUT:
bow hunting, woodland camo and whitetail deer. really good wild game recipes, long hikes and camping trips (and scouting missions) all remind syb of eli
and sweet tea on a hot day and cold beer on a hot evening. the smell (and taste) of stale cigarettes. the burn of bourbon as it goes down all remind eli of syb

Introduction Post
So, I figured I probably should write this
SO! I'm a neurodivergent dragon (/lh /nsrs) that has a whole mess of conditions (described at the end of the post) and has a passion for reading, writing, fanfiction, languages, conlanging, animals, random factoids I'll never have an occasion to use, and mythical creatures! (Hence the "neurodivergent dragon.")
I don't like to give out my ""real"" name (by that i mean birth name) over the internet, but you can call me Skye because I like her (Agents of SHIELD tv show).
I made a tumblr account on accident, tbh. (I think i was trying to bypass a paywall??) But it works because I've been curious about joining for a while now.
Feel free to send me random factoids (especially about language or animals!) and anything conlang-related!
If you have any mythical creatures you want to share (either from pre-existing mythology or ones you just made up), I'll gladly welcome that, too!
The userboxes below are credited to @critter-stuff(link), @inclusysboxes(link), and @plural-this-user-is(link). (Sorry about the ping! If you want me to remove it, let me know!)
Our system-specific (and rather inactive) blog is @werewolf-pack-system(link)
We also started an emoji blog (mainly for aac purposes): @wolf-pack-emojis(link)
(Also, I'm not a minor, but please treat me as one in the manner of if you wouldn't send it to a minor, don't send it to me. I'm very sensitive and have some religious beliefs that make it awkward for me to see NSFW or related material.)

(information/discussion of neurodivergencies under the cut)
(Warning! CW self-harm and suicide; eating disorder mention; brief, vague mentions of unreality; potentially other triggering material)
-----------
Sensory processing disorder
Diagnosed when i was about to enter 4th grade.
Lots of negative auditory triggers, with crowds beings sensory misery
LOVE SPINNING LOVE SWINGING [PT: love spinning love swinging //end PT]
Rain. Just... rain. Rain on my face, my arms, just rain all the time.
If i touch a Bad Texture(tm), i must immediately rub the after-touch feeling off my hand
I like going without socks, but only on carpet. If i walk on hard surfaces, then i start feeling grit under my feet and that's just not cool.
Pain and temperature sensitive
I have many stims, mostly proprioceptive (such as rocking [my fave!]), but also have a few visual and tactile stims as well. Fewer auditory stims, but i do use music to help me calm down after i get stressed
Anxiety
Was self-diagnosed for many years; got my official diagnosis a few years ago
Mix of social anxiety and GAD
Makes it hard for me to talk/initiate in conversations
Doesn't help i'm introverted
Depression
Comorbid with the anxiety
Was a bit of a surprise honestly (though i am a bit suicidal and have self-harmed)
Not really a whole lot to go here as i'm still working to understand my depression
PTSD
Diagnosed along with the anxiety
I don't personally see it, but i also kinda do
Diagnosed due to an incident that happened in 5th grade
(Public school is terrible, btw)
Also not a whole lot to go here as i don't really understand my PTSD either
Avoidant Personality Disorder
Also dxed with the anxiety
Don't know much about it, but having it has made me curious about personality disorders in general, so i hope to learn more in the future!
Synesthesia
I'm sure you've noticed the way each disorder has been colored. That's because I'm synesthesia color matching! (Word-color approximations)
I also have pain-color (mostly red; when it's magenta or pink, it's bad; i've only had white once and i hope to never have it again)
(Later edit: I'm now experiencing pain in my jaw that is orange. It's more mild than red, but also sorta worse somehow 'cause it lingers? That's not really the right word, but it's the closest I can come to)
Emotion-color
Ticker-tape (though this has sorta faded)
Chromesthesia/sound-color -- only certain sounds, though, primarily music. Each song has it's own "color" and i tend to align my music preferences along that (for example, i pefer "dark" songs [those that have a black background color] over "bright" songs [those that tend to have a white or similarly-bright colored background])
Associator. Sometimes wish i was a projector
Fascinated by all things synesthesia
Plurality
Syscovery occured in June 2023
We have non-disordered mixed traumagenic and endogenic origins (we don't like to use traumaendo for ourselves)
There are a little over 35 of us that we're aware of, but I (Skye) am the primary one to use this site :) (The others may make their own accounts if they're interested)
Schizotypal Personality Disorder
Confident enough now to officially say I'm self-diagnosing this one
I started thinking it was a possibility when I realized that I tend to have various paranoid ideations and delusions ((tw) such as thinking that the dogs barking as I'm walking home from the park are telling Them where i am [no clue who "Them" would be]), superstitious-like beliefs, and a distinct repulsion of anything social (separate from anxiety or AvPD; just a "i don't feel like dealing with people" kinda weariness)
Schizoid Personality Disorder
Confident enough to now name this one, too.
The things which make me question it include a strong need for isolation to regain energy, periods of finding everything boring and uninteresting, general vague distrust of others, and just a very intense repulsion of human interaction.
---
Eating Disorder?
I've been dealing with something that (from what i've been able to find) looks a lot like ARFID, but I don't really know if i have it
I consider it more "ARFID questioning" i guess
One of the more concerning aspects of this is that I've started to become physically nauseous by the smell of food, even stuff I like. I eat much less than I should and have in the past, and if I try to eat more, I feel sick. I've tried talking to my mom about it, but she just tells me I need to eat at more regular times and all (lately, I've been skipping breakfast and waiting until ~2 in the afternoon to eat because it feels like if I get food any sooner, I'll be sick)
Advice on dealing with disordered eating would be very welcomed

New series???
Hi all,
I am so stuck in a rut right now. I can't write anything and when I try I get so frustrated. It's a huge bummer and a huge stress.
So I'm going to be taking a break until mid July, hopefully getting my writing groove back (Yoongi fic will still be posted as that is a completed fic)
To focus myself, I decided to put out two polls on what you guys want from me. Maybe seeing the votes will kick my ass into gear
So a new series I have planned (and have started writing some of the fics) is a fairytale/myth retelling series. The series is multi fandom (ATEEZ and BTS so far).
I made title collages for each story so I'm gonna post them below and then have a poll for you guys to choose which fic you'd want first
Thanks so much for your help and understanding
Retellings
Yoongi
Tumblr media
Retelling of Hades and Persephone
God of Underworld Yoongi x Spring Goddess Named Reader
Set in Ancient times
Hongjoong
Tumblr media
Retelling of Mermaid stories (Mermaid lure sailors with voice)
Pirate Captain Hongjoong x Mermaid Named Reader
Set in 1800s
Note- I am using Mermaids not sirens in this story. I know that people use sirens and mermaids interchangeably but I don't. I studied Greek classics in college and for me Sirens are the half bird, half women who sing to lure sailors to their deaths so they can eat them. Mermaids are known for their voices too so that's what I'm using in my fic
Seonghwa
Tumblr media
Retelling of Little Red Riding Hood
Werewolf Seonghwa x Human Named Reader
Set in middle ages
Yeosang
Tumblr media
Retelling of Blue Beard
Bluebeard Yeosang x Named Reader
Set in 1700s
Wooyoung
Tumblr media
Retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice
Idol Wooyoung x Vampire Slayer Named Reader
Set in present day
Jungkook
Tumblr media
Retelling of Rumpletilskin
Rumpletilskin- ish Jungkook x Peasant Named Reader
Set in middle ages (1400s)
Jimin
Tumblr media
Retelling of The Little Mermaid....sort of
Idol Jimin x Mermaid Named Reader
Set in present day
✨Also if you have any retellings you'd like as a fic let me know in the comments! I'm always open to more ideas 💕

[meta] What are your muses closest relationships, good and bad. And how do they define who your muse was, is, and will become?
Oh wow. What an incredible and loaded question. I’m going to answer this with an obnoxiously long break down because I don’t know when to shut up.
I’m going to start with characters still in the RP but may break out to talk a bit about some of the older relationships. Also putting under a read under because I saw Bex do it for Cass and that’s a smart idea.
TW: Mentions of emotional abuse and physical abuse, parents death mention
Ari - This was an obvious addition. He’s one of Rio’s earliest friends in town and definitely one of the people he’s felt closest to. As a ranger, befriending a werewolf is one of my first priorities for Rio as a character to show just how against his upbringing he was - and I couldn’t have asked for a better writing partner than Han <3. Ari and Rio have always cared so deeply about each other even during the periods that they were “fighting” or not talking and in a world where Rio has always considered love to be conditional it was so surprising for him to find out that Ari could be mad at him for lying but still care deeply for him at the same time. There is very little that he wouldn’t do for her at this point.
Kaden - Honestly, I think the way their relationship progressed surprised me just as much as it surprised Rio. I wrote Rio with the intention of him hating hunters of all kinds - disagreeing with just about every aspect of their “duty”. This has more to do with his own childhood than the actual hunter code but he has deemed the two interchangeable. But Kaden was one of those special cases (shout out to Adam, a friend of Rio’s that he definitely had a crush on and also Nic who was a hunter that stepped into a sort of fatherly role for Rio.). Rio wanted to hate Kaden so badly- but the more he got to know him the more he realized that he actually cared about the guy. I think Kaden more than anybody helped sort of start to separate his own experience with what hunters do and helped show him that maybe sometimes the hunters were doing the right thing. It definitely helps that Liz writes Kaden so phenomenally that even at Kaden’s worst you can always connect and feel for him because regardless he’s trying to do what he thinks is right.
Milo - A very important friendship to Rio that got cut too short too soon when I had to leave the group last year. They became fast friends who accepted all parts of each other - even the ugly parts that they didn’t necessarily like to share. Milo was the sort of friend that Rio felt completely comfortable with, which isn’t an easy relationship to accomplish with someone as anxious/timid/self-critical as Rio is. Jessie was such a pleasure to write with and a big reason why Rio and Milo clicked so quickly.
As for some previous characters that shaped Rio a lot:
Athena - Couldn’t not talk about his twin sister. When I first wrote Rio’s bio Athena was a one dimensional copy of her parents who would not have hesitated to kill her brother if her parents told him to. My IRL (but not actually) twin Emily offered to take her as an NPC and fleshed her out to be so incredible and the two really shaped each other. Rio spent most of his life hating Athena, but throughout it all it was obvious they cared for each other. I think they both drove each other to be better people - whether it was intentional or not.
Winston was a must add as Rio’s first romantic partner. Rio has a lot of intense intimacy issues - because of his upbringing and also because he is always trying to hide his scars. Winston (and their roommate Ricky) were the first people in town that Rio was ever comfortable enough to show those scars to and that says a lot. Winston was everything that Rio thought he would never be able to get because of his upbringing. They were patient, gentle and showed Rio unconditional love. Even now, long after their break up I think Rio still strives to be as good and kind as Winston was.
Blanche - His OG best friend - originally bonded by their dislike for his sister. I’m pretty sure this was his first friend he ever actually made in White Crest and was the kind of friend that would dye their hair multiple colors with you and break into your parents house with you (and steal their frying pan) and definitely put their life on the line for you (all three of these things did happen multiple times). At risk of repeating myself because really there was a whole crew that helped do this - but Blanche contributed in cracking that seemingly unbreakable shell that helped Rio become who he is and begin to break free from his parents' grasp.
Basically what it boils down to is that I’ve had some incredible writing partners that have helped me bring out plots/traits in Rio and I hope that I’ve been able to help do the same!
There are a lot of characters that have been important to Rio but this is already long as hell so thank you to everyone for writing with me <3

Obligatory Pinned Info Post
Time to subject myself to the mortifying ordeal of being known. Hi. I'm Krakoa, or Gray, or (probably) Timothy. What's the "probably" for? System babey! This blog was created by me, Timothy Lawrence of the Library of Krakoa System. Another system member who is using this blog quite a bit is Rahne Sinclair. This blog has no topic only vibes. Despite the URL and theming, this is not a fandom blog.
Some info for everyone:
"I/We" will probably be used interchangeably quite a bit.
If you involve me in discourse of any kind I will bite you.
We post a lot. Like a lot a lot. Like “has hit post limit before” a lot. You have been warned.
I likely will not ever post a "system list" or whatever. Those who wish to be known of online will make their presence known.
Our system identifies as nonhuman. Individual identities differ but we collectively identify as werewolf and mutant. Don’t like it? Argue with the wall (the block button).
I (Timothy) am fictosexual/romantic. This means that I am (primarily) attracted to fictional characters. I consider myself to be in romantic relationships with many of my sourcemates.
Mutuals can ask for posts to be tagged for the purposes of filtering.
Tag list: #krakoa is for all qutants (queue tag), #timothy gushes (timothy’s ficto/self-shipping posts), #rahne gushes (rahne’s ficto/self-shipping posts), #krakoan wereposting (werewolf posting), #krakoan wednesdayposting (posting about Wednesday tv show), #krakoan tmg posting (posting about the band The Mountain Goats), #detective bb(girl) (posting about the Knives Out movies), #krakoan borderlandsposting (posting about the Borderlands games), #krakoan original (our original posts), #rahne Sinclair autobiography (real) (updates about rahne’s now finished and posted autobiography), #krakoan basedballposting (posts about baseball)
A link to the special days of the week we celebrate on this blog.

I think I remembered the term Lycaon from the James / Varinia Malfoy story. Maybe it was a placeholder term for pureblood werewolves? Also, sorry for another question, but is there anyway for a turned werewolf to learn how to shift, such as blood-adoption or something similar?
His grandfather captured and bonded with a Selkie. He has second cousins living in France that are Dark Veela. He has a first cousin who bonded with a Lycaon, and even has a pet werewolf of his own. But no Potter, ever, has stolen away a Syren.
You were right! Wow, Google Docs failed me. I searched "Lycaon" and it offered nothing.
I'm now going to say that Pureblood Werewolf/Lycaon can be used interchangeably as the species's name. 😂
I don't mind questions. I answer them as I have time. 💛
Nope! "Turned" are cursed, essentially. They can only shift during the full moon.

Werewolves and an interesting thought that came into my head
You know I always have to begin by saying that these are just thoughts- they're not thoughts aimed to hurt anyone! I'm not here to dismantle anyone's beliefs, I'm just here to spew out my little inner ramblings.
So, werewolves... ah yes, those guys.
While I'm scribbling away on my google doc about my grand plans for this stupid story I'm working on, a thought comes into my head: "why are male werewolves so predominant in mythology?"
So, I do a bit of digging...
You see, the word 'werewolf', as we probably all know, comes from Old English, but what I think is sometimes ignored is the fact that 'were' stems from 'wir' which means 'man'. As modern English speakers, we're used to 'man' and 'human' being used interchangeably, removed from gender, but 'wir' doesn't mean 'man' like that. It means 'male human'. 'Werewolf' is technically 'male-human-wolf'. **
Werewolves are male in nature, and this is rare. It's rare because when monsters are gendered, they're typically female. Think gorgons, sirens, harpies, succubi, banshees, slit-mouthed women, manananggal and so on. Yes, there are of course male monsters, but what's special about female monsters is that their femininity is particularly tied to their monstrosity- especially when we're looking at the backdrop of European lore which the werewolf makes its home in (think witches and their relationship with femininity and womanhood). Werewolves are unique in that their masculinity can be tied to their monstrosity.
What can you do with this information? Well, a lot. I think what's interesting is that werewolves, particularly in western Europe, were feared, hated and looked upon with the same amount of scorn one would look upon with a witch. Heck! There were even trials held for werewolves during the famous witch-hunts! That's interesting because a werewolf is still tragic, much unlike the witch, who was seen as getting what she deserved. And yet, the werewolf was still hated.
There's a struggle there. Mythology is really not known for its consistency and no better example of that is the treatment of the werewolf. Looking through the lens of a patriarchal storyteller, the werewolf is something which is feared and sympathised with. Because you can't deny its savage nature but you want to. You want to forget the violence, the anger, the hatred this beast is capable of, because it frightens you. Because you too can be that beast. You can "give in".
Werewolves have always had a relationship with masculinty. The constant discussion of violence and manhood can be linked to this monster. And, personally, I think there's a lot of room here for creative potential. We've seen how the werewolf can be used to illustrate body horror and its relationship with female adolescence (a.k.a Ginger Snaps, an amazing film) but I really don't see much about werewolves and what they can be done with men, and men's own relationships with themselves, be it their current or adolescent manhoods. There's been a lot of male werewolf protagonists but the werewolf has been used in other ways symbolically, but not as a symbol of something within the realms of masculinity. I think the subject should be approached tentatively and with care, as with most subjects regarding gender, but yeah, I really want to see this aspect of lycanthropy explored.
There's room for real horror here, real tragedy and also discomfort. Maybe werewolves are that repressed, unanimous truth we've been refusing acknowledge out of fear (I'm looking at you, Lord of the Flies) or maybe werewolves are a cry for help?
Anyways, that's all for today, folks!
** By this logic, female werewolves technically should be called 'wifwolves', stemming from the Old English word 'wif' which, you guessed it, means 'woman' and is also where we get the word 'woman' from, along with 'wife' and 'midwifery' :).
P.S. No idea why, but this thought like resurrected itself from the back of my mind whilst I'm watching that "Xolo Marideuña trying snacks" video by the channel that does Hot Ones. Absolutely irrelevant but a fun fact nonetheless.
