YALL. HAVE AN EMBROIDERY/KNITTING/CRAFTING PARTY. It was an amazing time and almost no one knew each other at the start except me bc I pulled everyone together, but it went from 'haha awkward small talk' to this wonderful meditative vibing situation with people chatting and sharing skills and making things. Hours passed and I didn't even realize, and I'm someone who is usually ALWAYS checking in with myself social and physical spoonwise. You could talk or just tune in and out of various conversations and just. Parallel play for adults??? And I came out of it with a new skill and a foundation of practical know-how?? And a thing that I made?
Do yourself a favor and have a crafting party.

Trying to start a giant-ass meta on why I ship Mycroft/Albert and what there is to see of it and right off the bat I'm like...I want people to look at every single panel of their interactions.
No, it's not Sherliam levels. And BIG OLD DISCLAIMER: very little of what I'm going to present here is like "We were clearly intended to read it this way." I'll always argue that Sherliam is meant to be romantic: it hits so many well-established notes and tropes it's almost impossible to think otherwise. MycAl is a bit different. I do think it's definitely like...we're welcome and even invited to see it. But a LOT of my shipping it comes from the way I personally read and interpret things. So this is about explaining what I'm seeing that makes me ship it, rather than trying to be like "This is canon and you should agree with me." Anyway, for reference, I'll be using the official translation as far as it goes and then swapping to teawaffles' wonderful translation for the rest!
So...like right off the bat throughout the entirety of their Chapter 4 interactions their body language and expressions and ways of talking are so flirty? (Also, I still find it funny that in the manga Mycroft is introduced before Sherlock and thus Mycal is introduced before Sherliam. Older bros first lol.)
Maybe it's just that 2 decades on the internet have skewed me towards reading suggestiveness into everything, but the way Mycroft addresses Albert feels so flirtatious even if he's literally just being normal. "And what would an Indian Army official such as yourself want from an intelligence official such as myself this late in the evening?" Like...am I crazy? Does that not kinda sound like a porn intro? 😂 (This could also be Sherliam Side-effects. The way they call each other Professor and Detective in That One Scene is like...almost undeniably foreplay. Now every time anyone calls each other by title/profession/rank is this series I assume they're hitting on each other.)
But also Albert is just so...handsy throughout that scene. He's touching Mycroft's knickknacks, and just sort of limp-wristing all over the place. And I mean, I think that's just one of Albert's public-facing personas (customer service peeps, you know what's up) but it definitely lends itself to the existence of Vibes.
Anyway, there's this parallel of "You have my attention. What do you want?" that I think is kinda neat. (But look how comparatively sad Mycroft looks in the second version!!!)
Chapter 4:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapter 23:
Tumblr media
Btw, in Scandal in the British Empire...why does Mycroft introduce himself to the Queen? Never mind, not why we're here. Again, my weird innuendo sensors perk up in Chapter 17 at "I did not drag you out of bed this early for nothing." Maybe it's because my perception of Victorian niceties, whether it's factual or not, is that there was this sense of avoiding talk of physical realities. We don't speak of pregnancy, we speak of "her condition" and "confinement." We don't "go to bed," we "retire." And so on. So conversely, it feels almost suggestive to even acknowledge that someone was in bed. In whatever state of undress the might imply. *Kellen Goff Sasaki voice:* OOOH how sCanDaLOus. (Mind you I DON'T believe there is anything of authorial intent in this, again, just trying to explain the factors that make me read things a certain way.)
The little mind games: Albert immediately recognizing that he's being tested, and Mycroft well aware that something is off, that he and Albert are using each other to their own ends. All juicy ship ingredients.
Then there's this...I can't articulate why it's important. But it is. Something about mouths and thoughts. If I wasn't terribly lazy, I'd go digging for examples in various manga series and I have a pretty firm suspicion that I could prove that, often, Mouth-Focus Thinking Panel + Name = Ship.
Tumblr media
Jumping forward to the start of The Riot in New Scotland Yard (Chapter 29), Mycroft's demeanour has really changed. During the meeting at the British Museum he's radiating "I'm not angry I'm just disappointed" energy. He's tense, he's not sure if the Moriartys are enemies and when he understands their plan he seems understandably sad about it even as he accepts it. But now, he's radiating an almost Sherlock-like excitement. He's just gotten to see a miniature version of The Plan in action during the Jack the Ripper case, and it worked. He says he's just visiting Albert as an acquaintance (read: friend in Mycroftian), and that's what it feels like. They're chummy. It's cute. Also Albert teasing Mycroft over his squabbles with Sherlock when he leaves? When did Albert find out about that, hmm? (I mean, could be spying of course. But I like to think it just suggests they've talked more than we've seen.)
Annnnnd....cutting this part off here because I'm bored of it for now and it's long. I'll do the rest when the mood strikes. 😂

I think the reason I'm not vibing with a lot of speculative Good Omens meta now is that I'm focused on what I think the scenes actually mean, what actually is and will be, rather than what could be.
Crowley's memories, for example. I fully agree that other things COULD explain his seeming memory gaps, and there's a lot of ways you could interpret them. But I'm focused on what the scenes are intended to convey, what the probable thought was behind them, and therefore, work out whether it's likely to come up later in the story. In this case, I'm at least 80% sure we're meant to pick up on those moments as significant. It's not that there aren't alternative explanations, or that some of them aren't completely logical. I'm not speculating within the story, I'm picking up on story cues from outside of it.
And that goes for most of my speculations, to be honest. I think we probably won't see the same human characters again, because that would fit the pattern of the series so far - human players are introduced for each chapter of the story. And it feels like Nina and Maggie have concluded their arc, and don't need any more celestial intervention (if they really needed any in the first place). It seems unlikely, too, that Crowley will hang around his and Aziraphale's space when he's not in it. He's already living in his car, so it's easy for the plot to move him wherever he needs to be. That seems deliberate to me. Like, if I was about to move the story to another location - say, America - this is the way I'd set it up.
I also think that's why the unreliable narrator / 'we're not seeing what actually happened' theories especially annoy me. Partly because they feel like coping and I think some people are setting themselves up for disappointment. Partly because when it's an unreliable narrator, it's always Aziraphale, and that carries an assumption that this is just Aziraphale's story. Which it is not. But the biggest thing is how unrealistic that idea is. We are two-thirds of the way through the story. There are six more episodes in which to tell the rest. Spending a good chunk of that going over S2 again and showing us 'what really happened!' would be a massive waste of time. I don't see why there would be a secret narrative, because there's literally no time for one. Everything we see onscreen has to count. If you want to make serious predictions, not just headcanons, then you have to take things like that into account.

Talk to me about s2 supremacy. Spare no details.
thank you for asking and allowing me to gush 💕
maybe most importantly: it still has that early seasons 2000s vibe with flip phones and tape decks and newspaper articles and wide angle shots and americana and grainy film and desaturated colors and grittiness and loose layered working class clothing and shitty motels and grungy bars and this rough edge to everything
another main point is that it finds the perfect balance between monster of the week episodes and a season-encompassing story/myth arc by generally combining the two when necessary, unlike some of the later seasons
an overarching theme is the morality of hunting and whether or not truly every “monster” is really evil or deserves to die: “what if we killed things that didn't deserve killing?” (bloodlust, the usual suspects, croatoan, hunted, born under a bad sign, roadkill, heart) which plays into my next point
the pacing of the season works really well to set up everything about the season finale: sam's storyline with simon said, croatoan, hunted, born under a bad sign; and dean selling his soul, first through john’s deal with azazel, then with children shouldn't play with dead things (“what's dead should stay dead” / “when someone's gone they should stay gone. you don't mess with that kind of stuff”) and crossroad blues (“i think you did it for yourself. so you wouldn’t have to live without her”) and somewhat in croatoan where he's ready to die with sam
literally every single episode is a certified banger in my opinion. i can only think of 2 episodes that didn’t hit the mark too well for me personally but every other one i could rewatch endlessly, and those two still objectively have merit within the framework of the show/season
i won’t talk about each and every ep, but specifically the entirety of playthings, one of the most, if not THE quintessential, gothic episodes of the show. immaculate vibes.
the usual suspects, which shows how well sam and dean work together without even being in the same room and just how generally Weird they can be to outsiders, as well as continuing the theme of “demons i get / people are crazy” which was first set up in s1
as well as the entirety of what is and what should never be. no further explanation necessary i think.
also sam and dean look really nice
cinematography is on. point. the entire time. these shots alone from 2.09 and 2.04. museum worthy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sam and dean’s relationship is just. sublime. “we were just starting to be brothers again” (2.01) – “he's the only one who gets to call me [sammy]” (2.03) – “you make a move on him, you'll be dead before you hit the ground” (2.09) – “if i ever turn into something that i'm not you have to kill me” (2.11) – “i can't, i'd rather die” (2.14) – “i thought it was supposed to, to be this perfect fantasy” / “it wasn't” / “we never went hunting and you and me just never, uh... you know” (2.20) – “i had to look out for you. that's my job” / “and what do you think my job is?” (2.22)
without taking the focus off the brothers as its core or feeling suffocating, s2 introduces more recurring supporting characters (bobby... kind of, as a rollover from the s1 finale; jo, ellen, ash, gabriel, victor henriksen, gordon walker) and expands on the monster lore, lending some depth to the spn universe before it begins to really ramp up with heaven and hell etc. from s3 onwards
the music was so good, too, although that’s true for other seasons as well. from ‘bad moon rising’ playing on the radio after the car crash in 2.01 and ending with ‘don’t look back’ in 2.22 and everything inbetween; dean singing along to ‘can’t fight this feeling’ in 2.05, ‘hellhound on my trail’ in 2.08, ‘renegade’ in 2.12, ‘back on the road again’ in 2.14, ‘house of the rising sun’ in 2.16, ‘silent lucidity’ in 2.17, ‘rooster’ in 2.19, ‘americana’ playing during sam’s death etc.
they just... did not hold back in all hell breaks loose part 1. earth shattering.
Tumblr media
season 2 is funny (hollywood babylon, “maybe the spirits are trying to shut down the movie cause they think it sucks”) and heartbreaking (all hell breaks loose) and silly (tall tales) and deep (what is and what should never be) and philosophical (houses of the holy) and tragic (heart) and creepy (croatoan and pretty much all the rest) and intelligent (the usual suspects) and beautiful to me 💛

You knew you were in trouble when his eyes met yours across the room. Trying not to pay him too much attention, putting your anxieties aside, you put all your focus on the people around you. Join in on the conversation. Pretend as if you belong.
But no matter how well you merged in with the crowd, he could tell. After all, it was his album release party you were crashing.
To your surprise, he didn’t call for security. Instead, he walked over to you, drink in hand. Leaning against the bar, he asked away from everyone else: ‘Now, how did you get in here, sweetheart?’
‘Sorry?’ you gave a shot at playing dumb, but it didn’t fool him.
‘How did you get in?’ He asked a bit louder, not sternly or with anger, just to get his voice above the music. He was amused. ‘Bribed the guards, did we?’
‘I have my ways.’ Was all you said, looking up at him from above your crystal glass. At this point, you knew you were safe. He wasn’t going to do anything.
‘What’s your name?’ he asked, so you told him. Then he tried to introduce himself: ‘I’m Eddie.’
‘I know,’ you stated it. Of course, you knew him. Not even because you were a huge fan of his music. But everyone knew the lead singer of Corroded Coffin… whether they wanted to or not.
You took another sip of your drink. Neat whisky. Eddie watched the liquid drain out of the glass, expecting you to flinch from the burn of it, yet being heavily disappointed. ‘Don’t worry,’ you assured him, ‘I can handle a bit of fun.’ And you certainly held up to that promise.
Eddie barely left your side that night. To this day, he jokes about how it was for the sake of safety that he was just keeping an eye on you. “Damage control” or “making sure you didn’t steal anything”.
Yes, years went by, and somehow your lives merged. Some would call it friendship. Any time you had the chance to see each other, which was a rare occurrence considering Eddie's busy rockstar lifestyle (that you constantly teased him about, naturally), you were at each other’s side. Most often, that meant that you would meet him at the studio when the band was recording. It was one of those days, but slightly different.
You had never seen the guys be this distraught. The worst possible thing had happened— writer’s block.
The instruments were left astray as all four band members were losing hope of their new record. Eddie still had his guitar on his lap but had stopped torturing himself by playing one failed riff after another.
When they were in their “thinking zone”, you always made sure not to interrupt, not wanting to accidentally stop the creative juices from flowing, but seeing them torture themselves like this… you couldn’t do it. So, you got up and announced it was time for a break.
‘We don’t need a break, we need ideas,’ Eddie groaned, spinning around in his chair, head hung back so he could stare up at the ceiling.
‘Who knows, maybe some tacos will be the muse you have been looking for, now c’mon,’ you pulled his arm as hard as you could, but in the end, it was his own free will to get up that got Eddie moving. You dragged him to the kitchen, where the rest of the band had already assembled. ‘The tacos might have been a bad idea,’ you said once you realised there really was not enough food in the house to cook. ‘But– oh fuck,’ you opened a cupboard just to be greeted with an avalanche of pots. Before the stainless steel hit you in the face, Gareth caught the biggest pot just in time, stopping everything else from falling– minus one lid that made an incredible ruckus, possibly heard through the entire neighbourhood.
‘Is it just me or did that sound kind of good,’ Gareth hit the lid again, looking up at the rest of the band.
‘Did you take something? How many times did I tell you guys, don’t fucking trip before–’
‘No I’m not high, asshole,’ Gareth called Eddie out. ‘Just– wait.’ He searched around frantically through the other drawers before finding a large wooden spoon and banging it across the pan that almost knocked one of your teeth out a minute before. ‘Imagine this as, like, a backing track.’ It was a hollow metal sound. Not very melodic, but loud. Gareth kept on slamming the spoon on the pot like a maniac as the rest of the band looked at him as you watched them from the side. Seeing them at work was always fascinating, but this… well, this was one for the history books, especially when Gareth grabbed another pan and started to figure out how to use the different utensils to make different sounds.
‘Fuck, man.’ Eddie sighed, his hand rubbing out the stress from his face, ‘i hate how good that sounds.’ Oh yeah, he was getting ideas. Or perhaps not, because the next thing you know, the lead of the band leaves the kitchen. There is an awkward pause where none of you know what to do until Eddie comes back, guitar on his shoulder.
‘Do that shit again,’ he tells Gareth.
‘Please, no need for such formalities.’ Gareth rolls his eyes but resumes his little kitchen orchestra. Eddie listens intently before strumming his first chord; slowly, he builds on it.
And not just a melody. He’s humming. Words started to appear from the soft humming, and before you knew it, he sang a whole verse– more or less. It was still very much a work in progress, so most of the lyrics were half-mumbled as he still was figuring out the perfect phrasing.
‘Where did that come from?’ you asked, stunned at how easily the words came to him. The writer’s block from before seemed to have disappeared entirely.
‘Just something I kept on the back log.’ He said, not fazed much. ‘Work in progress.’
‘I like it,’ you said. Not that it mattered much. You were merely an invited spectator in these sessions, but surely some praise could always be somewhat appreciated from time to time. Eddie seemed to think so, at least, as he smiled sheepishly, glancing down at his guitar. He never needed to look at the strings as he played anymore, and yet now he couldn’t look away from the instrument.
‘Does this mean that we have to write all our songs in the kitchen from now on?’ Jeff quipped.
‘Oh, god no, it smells here of old take-out.’ Eddie commented. ‘Just grab what you need, and we can finish this up… if you guys are into it.’ There were no objections to the plan, so you quickly helped Gareth bring all the pots and pans into the living room, where they had all their writing stuff set up.
The next few hours were spent figuring out how to incorporate everything they wanted into something coherent, but unfortunately, nothing seemed to work anymore. Maybe the kitchen was the best place to work, after all?
‘This isn’t working,’ Eddie was about to pull his hair out. ‘We can’t do it all at the same time.’ but at the same time, to remove any of the elements they had come up with would completely change the song, which they were not prepared to do. One thing you learned about the band: they were some of the most talented and most stubborn mutherfuckers in the industry. Once they had their mind set on something, there was no going back. So the damn pans would stay, and they would sound amazing. No matter the cost.
There was a long silence, the longest that had occurred since the morning, as everyone in the room tried to think of some solution. It felt silly, but even you tried to think of something, just wanting to help out.
Eddie called out your name almost as if he could read your mind. ‘Come here, sweetheart.’ You got up from your chair, awaiting further instructions, but those were directed at Gareth. ‘Show her how to hit the beat.’
‘What?’ you asked, confused. Last time you checked, you had no musical bone in your body, and you were just here for moral support and to make sure the guys didn’t kill each other or themselves out of frustration (let’s be honest, mostly Eddie. He could be quite a lot to handle sometimes).
‘We need more hands on deck if we want to make this work now.’
And that’s how you played a very simple beat on the drums for the band. It was enough for now, as they got through the rest of the writing. It was pretty fun, but you did still manage to mess up a few times. No one gave you a hard time for it. All they focused on was the stuff you did manage to do. It was Eddie’s turn to praise you at one moment when you got through the entire song without any mistakes.
Taking a small break, he came up to you as the rest of the band had gone off to do their things for a moment.
‘Thanks for helping us out.’
‘Pretty sure I’m doing more damage than good,’ you laughed. ‘Wouldn’t it be better for me to hit the pans?’
‘It’s Gareth’s vision, so unless you’re prepared to get into all that…’ he smiled, ‘but you’re doing great.’
‘True, just don’t get angry if I keep messing up.’
‘I would never.’ Eddie fake pouted, ‘not at my good girl.’ the words branded you from the inside, sparking up something that froze you for a moment. When you looked back up at him, Eddie had a wide smirk on his lips. Jeff had just walked back into the room carrying a beer, so Eddie leaned in closer to you to keep your conversation private. ‘Besides, seeing you hit it like that, it’s kind of hot.’
‘Shut up,’ you dug your elbow into his ribs playfully.
‘That won’t be possible, I’m afraid.’ Eddie said, and he was right, since you still had a few hours of work ahead of you before the band called it a night. The house they were using to write at was rented, with enough rooms for all the band members to have their own, so once sleep called, they all disappeared behind their doors, leaving you and Eddie alone.
‘Next time, I promise we’ll go somewhere. Just us.’ He huffed out, and sunk back into the couch.
‘Oh, I had fun.’  You smiled, sitting down next to him.
‘And I’m glad, but I would much rather spend my time with you and actually being with you.’
‘Next time then,’ you agreed to his earlier promise. ‘But I’m happy to see you guys managed to get out of that writer’s block.’
‘Yeah, it was… something. I’m still not sure about it all. What do you think?’ Eddie lazily pulled you into his lap, placing his chin on your shoulder.
‘It’s great. Well, the pots and pans strategy is for sure…  interesting but I think you guys have something amazing brewing here. I just…’ you bit the inside of your cheek.
‘What?’ He sounded so tired. The long day was finally draining him out.
‘I just… can’t help but think some of it sounds a bit familiar.’ You quickly clarified: ‘some of the lyrics, especially the one about sneaking into parties, the drinking, the…. Other stuff.’
‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ The little kiss he left on your arm sent a shock through your body.
‘No, of course not. Maybe it’s just deja vu or something.’
‘Must be.’
‘Mhm,’ you agreed, and yet couldn’t help but giggle at the idea of Eddie having a song in his back pocket about the day you met.

i haven't seen seasons 1 through 3 since 2019 (but i am slowly making my way back through it) so forgive me for any inaccuracies, but purely from memory this is how im ranking steve from each season
character in general
Season Two Steve, because he's still got that jock-ish bitchy energy but it's also where we really start to see his softer side and also i think the first time you genuinely feel for him (his problem with billy, his implied problem with school, the bullshit scene), it's also the birth of babysitter steve!! and the second but much more thorough time we're shown that he's fully willing to put his life on the line to protect people he doesn't even know that well. He's a competent and strategic character who definitely has the vibe of Just Trying To Get Through The Year.
Scoops Steve, for similar reasons as the above but we also get to see the goofier prettyboy side of him and we're better introduced to Steve's observational skills and how the fact that he's not "smart" like the others is actually one of his advantages. Because while robin and dustin were focused on translating russian, steve couldn't stop noticing how familiar the background music was. this is also the season where Steve is starting to be written as a ditzier character, but i'm choosing to chalk that up to the fact that he's more laidback and less worried about his public appearance now that he works at an icecream parlor and wears a sailor uniform. (This is also the most bisexual version of steve, followed by s4)
King Steve, who i personally think was quite shallow (like from a writing perspective) but that is almost definitely because he wasn't originally supposed to survive the first season so he's forgiven for that. Still, we are shown someone who is cutting and self-confident, and then later shown that he is someone who is quick to realise when he's genuinely fucked up and just as quick to apologise. It's also when we're introduced to the idea that he will consciously put himself in danger to protect others. (@peter-pantomime made a really great video about one of Steve's tells on tiktok and i haven't been able to get it out of my head ever since)
Season 4 Steve, because they pretty much erased any and all of the competency previously shown in his character. I think this season did the most disservice to him, seeming to only write him off as genuine idiot who gets treated like shit by all of his friends and is only useful as a babysitter for teenagers who don't want to be babysat. It erased any progress he'd made in regards to his relationship with Nancy Wheeler, i think the only thing that kept him feeling like Steve was Joe Keery's acting and how well he knows the character. I think a lot of what was wrong with Steve's character this season could've been a really great way to introduce the amount of head trauma he's received through the other seasons but considering it wasn't so much as hinted at in canon it just seems like they circled back around to making Steve Harrington's character as shallow as it was in season 1. whether or not that's because they're setting him up to die in season 5, i think it was unfair.
character design
Scoops Steve, in his little sailor outfit with the floofy hair and the lipgloss?? iconic (bonus: the dark blue jeans with the red and blue vest when he applies at family video)
Season Two Steve, with the tight blue jeans and the sunglasses and the swoopy hair and the nail bat, also iconic (bonus: his gym uniform AND the maroon sweater when he drops dustin off at the dance)
Season 4 Steve bc he spent a majority of his screen time shirtless and only wearing a battle vest, and then later the coolest fucking jacket i've ever seen (wait shout out to that blue and white polo shirt that showed off his arms, thank you for your service; and his cute little yellow sweater)
King Steve, while i do love the preppy look and how much it made him look like a puppy at times, what the actual fuck was going on with his hair?? i would have liked to see more of the floppy haired steve we saw when he was helping Nancy study ):

AO3 Writer 20 Questions
Saw @thatonebirdwrites answer these questions focused on AO3 writers and thought it'd be fun to answer them too!
1) How do you keep getting ideas for your ship/fandom?
Day dreaming, music, and other media (books, movies, TV series).
2) Which authors inspire you in your fandom, and why are they so freakishly good?
This is the main question I wanted to answer because I wanted to just praise people and share their works!
A_M_Nicholson since I really adore their AUs and amazing vibes you get from their settings. The characters are always so interesting and they're able to maintain the characters' personalities and traits even though they are in an AU.
RaeDMagdon since her stories introduced me to omegaverse. She also cranks out solid works consistently and it's extremely impressive and admirable.
Xaibaugrove's writing makes you feel things through her words. Each chapter, paragraph, and even sentence is so well thought out and her story telling is to die for. Plus the depth and details she goes into for the surroundings is beautiful and immersive.
Tabsbee writes for Genshin Impact and I adore her style of writing and the modern AU settings she uses. Everything she posts is a banger. Plus they feed my need for more JeanLisa stories!
AnotherShotofBourbon was one of the first fic writers I ever read in the korrasami fandom. They started a series of soulmate AUs and I adore them so much! Their new works are also just as exciting!
Velvet95 has super unique and fun AUs. They're working on their sequel to a galactic sci-fi story that they had created a while ago and just as the first part, it's super enjoyable and creative!
AsamiOnTop has a behemoth of a fic (I think almost 300k words) and it's such a fun read. I loved seeing her growth from chapter 1 to the ending and it's always so admirable seeing people wrap up long fics like hers!
kittymannequin is another OG korrasami writer that inspired me to write fics myself. Whether her stories are for TLOK or Arcane or another fandom, it's always a delight to read.
tumblr blogs: @raedmagdon @xaibaugrove @tabsbee @abronzeagegod @kittymannequin @asamiontop
3) Aside from the characters of your main ship, who are the characters you love to write?
There's a handful but here are the ones that come to mind; Vi & Caitlyn from Arcane, Jean & Lisa & Beidou & Clorinde from Genshin Impact.
4) Are there pairings or tropes you know for sure you'd never write about? Which ones?
I lean away from tropes that delve into Family dynamics. Mainly pregnancy since I actually don't like babies...
5) What is your writing process and why is it cursed?
Get an idea
Jot down a rough plan
Start writing and stray instantly from the plan
Get a new plot bunny and fight with myself whether to continue what I've written or scrap it for a new shiny story
Obviously the 4th step is where things become truly cursed.
6) What is your favorite part of your writing process?
Since I write so many AUs, the world building aspects are my favorite.
7) What’s the weirdest thing you’ve had to research for a fic?
I've had to research a lot of things... but the weirdest usually revolve around bodily injuries or time period research to keep things as accurate as possible when needed. If you need to know how to prepare opium like they did in the 1800s... I got you.
8) Is there a particular writing rule you struggle with (grammar, spelling, tense, reality in general)?
Grammar 100%. But I also think breaking grammar rules are okay for vibes, bruh.
9) What was your hardest scene to write so far and why?
It's one I'm currently working on and have been for years. It's the next chapter of Start Again and I'm struggling to progress the story in a way that I like. I've written and scrapped it so many times that I've lost count at this point.
10) Have your characters ever done something you didn’t expect, changing your plot completely?
All the time...
11) If you could converse with any of the characters, who would it be and why?
It'd have to be Korra. She's got such a special spot in my heart that I don't think I could choose anyone else.
12) What are some of the tropes or themes that you find yourself returning to in your writing?
College AUs just keep coming back even when I think I've had enough of them.
13) What's your most important resource as a writer?
Other books. I don't have a book in particular, but just reading other books and fics is helpful. I've also joined a local writer's guild that has been helpful too!
14) Can you share some of your strategies for editing and revising your work?
I read/mumble my stories aloud to myself to see if things come out clunky. I also have a wonderful partner that betas the majority of my stories and I couldn't be more grateful for her.
15) Which is worse: making the summary, picking the tags, or the anxiety when you post your fic?
SUMMARY. God damn, I will spend more time on a fucking summary than the story. I will also be lazy at times and just copy and paste an excerpt if I'm at a real loss.
16) How do you define success for your fanfic - hits? Kudos? Comments? Bookmarks? Or just if you like it?
A huge factor for me is if I personally like it, BUT hits/kudos/comments are always appreciated. The goal is to share my stories with people and for them to enjoy their time reading, so it's always nice to receive all of those. I don't gauge much off of bookmarks since I often write explicit fics, which tend to be privately bookmarked or not bookmarked at all.
17) Do you have a playlist for your favorite character/ship?
I make playlists for stories/chapters. I don't do them individually for characters. I wouldn't be surprised if I have 50 or so playlists for my writing though.
18) If fan art was going to be made from your work, which fic would you pick and which fan artist would you like to create it?
When it comes to the story, I'd want the artist to do art for one that resonates with them. One that somehow inspires them. And oh man, when it comes to specific artists, I'm not sure since there are so many amazing ones. I've recently been inspired by @seijousai and am writing a story inspired by their Clorivia art. @ppyuuingles art is super wholesome and adorable. I love their JeanLisa stuff. I also have always adored @persnickety-doodles style of drawing when it comes to Korrasami. In the past I had the pleasure to collaborate with @unii-outlawed and later commissioned her. If you don't know her, then definitely check out her stunning artwork! Other amazing artists that deserve a follow are @ttanaart, @kf1n3, and @mimiendos (follow their twitter).
19) How many WIPs do you currently have?
Erm... posted on AO3 there's 20 unfinished stories BUT I also have over 100 completed ones. As for the WIPs that are written and not posted... that's also probably in the 20s. It goes back to all of the plot bunnies that I get and the battles I lose which results in partially written stories.
20) What's your advice to new fanfic writers?
Write what you want. Even if you feel that it may be niche there'll definitely be people out there that will read and enjoy it!

I read all your rant about Finral and Finesse and everything, and even though I completely understand your points... I have to admit, I never felt that Vanessa and Finral were teased as a ship, but as best friends. I understand why people felt otherwise, but it wasn't my case (even today, I only feel the friendship chemistry, but I DO support those who ship them). Isn't it weird that we felt something else entirely for the bond between Vanessa and Finral?
On the other hand I was immediately totally on board for Finral and Finesse. Don't ask me why, I just find it so cute from the start. But I do agree, that it might should have been introduced a bit better and certainly sooner, maybe.
Sorry if I bother you with that. It just made me think, how different we felt about this topic, but how I can still totally understand your point and Acacias. And I totally support that. Ship Finral and Vanessa all you want, consider Finral and Finesse as friends all you want, be happy about it! I fear it's just not my cup of tea in a romantic way, but that is just my opinion. But as best friends, as Brotp, I'm all on board for it.
(Sorry that I submit, but the ask didn't let me write all of this^^')
———-
Hiya @just-a-little-fan-1793 (I wasn’t sure if the submitted post would tag you or not 😅)! I wonder why the ask box wouldn’t let you type this all out, that’s really odd 🤔, maybe Tumblr is glitching again.
No worries, not everyone views things the same way, if we did, it’d be pretty boring wouldn’t it 😆? At least that’s what my other mutuals and I say when we talk about disagreeing or we have different opinions on things! Like for example; there’s a certain Kdrama that I’ve watched and loved where a lot of people felt the FL and the ML had a bunch of chemistry and wanted the characters to get together, but I on the other hand felt that the ML and the Second FL had a lot more chemistry together (even after I rewatched it I still felt the same) and that the FL and ML were just…friends? Aquantinces? Understanding of each other? I don’t know the right word rn, but apparently the writer felt the same way because in season 2 they heavily implied the Second FL had feelings for the ML 😆!
So it really is fun where people can watch the same show and get totally different vibes from characters, ships, etc! Whether it’s kdrama’s or anime! And I think that’s something I love about fandom, you and someone else could have watched the same scene but got two completely different things from it, which makes it fun and interesting I think!
Anyway back on the topic at hand; I don’t mind Finral x Finesse 🥰, I’ll admit they’re not really one of the ships I think about a lot, but I think they can be very cute together! They really should have introduced Finesse better then they did 😔, or even hinted at her existing like my mutual @loosesodamarble said (Langris could have easily mentioned her when he saw Finral in Kiten, like Erika said, but they didn’t 😭!)
You aren’t bothering me with this! I actually enjoy talking about ships and how peoples ships are different then mine (if that makes sense, I have a killer headache so I’m not sure if I’m making much sense 😆!). I think it’s fun how differently we see the topic, and I 100% support you in shipping Finral x Finesse 🥰! If (or when tbh) they become canon in Black Clover I’ll fully support them and love them as well even though I ship Finral x Vanessa. And I support you in only seeing them as a BROTP, they certainly are best friends at the end of the day, which makes me love those two no matter what 💕!
Thanks for sending this in, I don’t know why tumblr glitched and wouldn’t let you send it in as an ask 😔. But I still enjoyed hearing your thoughts and opinion, even though they’re different from mine 🥰! I want this blog to be a safe place for everyone to voice theirt houghts and opinions whether we agree or not 😁. So thank you for sending this in 💕!

Shiver x Frye but it's when Shiver first met Frye and Big Man, and it's just them being amazed and looking at Frye as if she was the one who made all this surface stuff.
Just general puppy crush and then later on it became a pining crush.
Im so sorry it took forever to get to this ask </3 i hope this is okay since i made you wait so long
The first time Shiver sees Frye its when they transfer to a mainstream school in the splatlands and they're getting used to all the people and their classes, but Frye and Big Man happen to be in a few classes with them
Frye comes up to Shiver and introduces herself and is like "you're the new kid right? You can hang with me if you want, I'm pretty chill if that's your vibe"
Shiver just stares at her- totally caught off guard by this gorgeous inkling coming up to them and wanting to be friends. they're entranced by the bright yellow ink color of Frye's tentacles and her downturned lashes, her pointed ears and gradient fingertips.
They stand there for a moment, blinking, before they answer "yes. yeah, I would like that."
Frye introduces Shiver to Big Man and he's friendly as always, "Nice to meet ya, it's always nice to have another cool person around!"
But Shiver is so focused on Frye all the time, they're happy to be friends with Big Man of course and they become close as they attend school together but Shiver is straight up in love with Frye. They're convinced that she's some kind of goddess in disguise or an angel sent to watch over them because of how beautiful she is, she's so lovely its hard to believe she's a real person.
Usually they're always quick with comebacks and jokes in a conversation, but when Frye is talking to them they short circuit- always stuttering or stumbling over their words and trying to recover fast enough that it doesn't make them look like an idiot.
Frye could ask them to do literally anything and they would say yes before they even knew what they were agreeing to.
"Hey Shiv, I have this math test on friday so I was thinking maybe you could-" and Shiver already interrupts, "Yes I can. When will we be meeting up?"
If they're in the same class with each other they work on all of their assignments together, always pairing up for group projects and such.
When they start getting into music with each other they're always finding a way to do it together, whether that means Shiver is singing and Frye is dancing, or they sing a duet, or one of them provides the harmony for the other while singing solo, and then this leads to them including big man for his musical talents as well.
To most people it would seem like Frye and Shiver are just very close friends but deep down they both were hoping for their friendship to be something more
I love a good mutual pining scenario and these two cephalings are hopelessly in love with each other and neither of them know it

hey! this is chance & here’s this week’s prompt. what websites or resources do you use while you write or develop a character/story? what do you think of them and would you recommend them?
hi chance!! tysm for the ask, this is such a kind and fun thing for you to be doing 💕
i have a LOT of resources to talk about with regard to this prompt. i'm actually planning in-depth posts for almost all of these, but for now i'll list out the things i absolutely cannot live without when developing a story.
websites
Random Generators. i have literally been to hundreds of random generator sites over the years, and they have become an absolutely invaluable resource for generating ideas, whether it's for a character name or a complete adventure. one of my all-time favorites, Chaotic Shiny, introduced me to the concept of NaNoWriMo and thus the writing community at large! i'd also recommend Seventh Sanctum and, as i'm sure everyone's already familiar, FantasyNameGenerators.com. each website is completely independent, some are still being updated to this day, and they each have a different Vibe to them so all three can be used depending on what kind of ideas you want to spark at the moment. HIGHLY recommend this unrestrained summer fun.
Springhole.net. this is kind of an expansion on the above, because there are some fantastic random generators on this site, but there's so much more here, too. in-depth advice for character development, worldbuilding, writing in general...it's great. and criminally underrated!
Susan Dennard's newsletter. Susan Dennard is the author of the Witchland series, among other things, and she's been keeping a long-running advice newsletter for writers for a LONG time. she's traditionally published and often has some great insight into the publishing world as well as just generally really good tips for writers of any stage. i'm not personally a fan of her books, but i am a fan of her advice. <3
YouTube. ok. hear me out. this could be for a few different things. i find it kind of fun to see how other writers tackle the writing process, so i'll watch writing vlogs every now and then--Kate Cavanaugh Writes is by far THEE best channel out there for this. her videos are excellently edited, her joy of writing is contagious, and she does a lot of fun and inspiring writing challenges! i often get bored watching people just stare at a camera and talk for 30 minutes straight, but her videos are Absolutely not like that so they're really easy to watch.
but even if you're not into vlogs, did you know that there's a whole subset of (mostly Japanese) YouTubers who make royalty free music and just like...post it? and it's GOOD? like genuinely?? go check out PeriTune right now and thank me later. i'm one of those writers that NEEDS music to write and develop characters so PeriTune (and the others that will eventually get recommended to you the more you watch their videos GHNGDFHG) makes the perfect background music for scenes, locations, characters, etc. and did i mention it's insanely good for being 100% free?
this isn't a resource for development, per se, but i can't recommend 4thewords enough. it's an online word processor that turns writing into an RPG: battle monsters by writing words during a certain time limit, and then complete quests with the loot you earn from your battles! there's a free 30 day trial for new users, and if you're participating in NaNoWriMo, the devs usually put coupons for free writing time during those months, so if you're not constantly in need of drafting several words at once, you really don't have to spend a cent. though 4thewords IS independently owned and developed by a wonderful team of writers who are very inclusive, so i do recommend supporting them if you can. :-) one month starts at $4, and if you use my referral code IRZVE23798 you and i both get free "crystals" that count toward subscription time <3
books/publications
there are two writing craft books i need EVERYONE to read, regardless of medium. Damn Fine Story by Chuck Wendig, and 27 Essential Principles of Story by Daniel Joshua Rubin. this is not the writing advice you've heard before. this is not elitist, prescribed advice. these are two books that will change the way you THINK about story, no matter how experienced you are. i am ALWAYS consulting these books. they live on my desk permanently.
Writer's Digest. i will admit to being subscribed to this magazine (and Poets & Writers), and for good reason! each bi-monthly issue is full of insider information about the publishing industry, creative writing prompts, and great food for thought about the craft. even if you can't/don't want to subscribe to the magazine, their website is full of great articles to get the inspiration flowing.
Publishers Weekly. i just check their website out periodically, to get a pulse on what's getting published these days, and by whom. if you want to be traditionally published, it's ALWAYS a good idea to understand the trends of the industry; plus, reading reviews on PW is a great way to find books to read that you might not have found otherwise.
and finally, of course, if you want to write, you have to read. like. i cannot stress this enough. find books that speak to you. reading others' work is essential to finding out what kind of techniques, tropes, characterizations, etc you LIKE as well as DON'T like. some people don't like reading in their genre for fear of accidentally plagiarizing, but i'm in the camp that NEEDS to read in my genre to get the right words into my brain so i can spit them all back later. no matter how or why you read, though, you gotta do it. even if it's just one novel that you read over and over again to keep getting inspired. GO TO YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY. thank you.

Alright, I've been looking at all the queer crap, so Imma rant about that today. (I also accidentally reblogged a Nimona post on here instead trashlikesmedia so oops, but you can see where I started.)
Labels suck but I need them so there. I consider myself asexual, I came to this conclusion last summer. I've never been in a relationship, never really had any crushes. I always joked about how I had a crush on this guy in like 3rd grade and he liked my best friend (who I didn't actually like but that's a different story), and I've never loved since, but like it's true. I haven't. I always had this idea that I just hadn't met someone worth crushing on. I would ask people how they got into relationships and they'd always be like "just be yourself, one day the right guy will come along and it'll all work out" which was not helpful at all. My younger sibling is queer and they kind of introduced me to a lot of different identities and ideas, and it just kind of grew from there. It all started with me acknowledging the fact that I didn't want to sleep with women, and I felt the same way about women as I do about men, so I'm bi? pan? ace? It took a while to get comfortable with it, but now I'm here confidently ace.
Then the romantic side of things got tough. I've been on exactly one date (it was terrible, I did not like the guy and he did not put in a lot of effort and it was so uncomfortable), and I've only ever really had one crush on a guy and it was such a weird experience, that I couldn't figure out what was going on. (that was actually last summer and part of me realizing I was ace was being excited to hang out and talk with him but physically recoiling when I even thought about kissing him), so romance was not my thing. I do identify as aromantic, because it's the label that most closely matches my feelings and experiences, but I still feel like it's not right. I don't know if it's because I genuinely am alloromantic, or because I so desperately crave romance.
The big deal of it all is that I grew up in a not great family environment. My parents hate each other, especially my mom to my dad. They have been outwardly antagonistic towards each other for as long as I can remember. (I think the only reason they haven't gotten divorced is because it would be too expensive and my mom doesn't want to lose my dad's paycheck.) That contrasted really sharply with all the romance I would read about and see in movies and stuff. I'm a big reader and I have always loved romance. So I grew up with this reality of a terrible relationship and a fantasy of a perfect romance. I constantly worried that I would either settle for a terrible relationship because I thought that was realistic or end up alone because nothing matched my standards. Now, I don't know if my aromantic feelings are just because I'm scared of relationships and all of that nonsense or if I'm just genuinely not attracted to people. It keeps me up at night. At the end of the day, I just vibe and hope that everything works out.
In regards to gender, boy howdy do I have feelings. Cause like, gender isn't real, it's a social and cultural concept that people cling to because they like order. This is not invalidating trans people, gender and body dysmorphia is a very real thing and associating your identity, experiences, and sense of self with a gender and/or sex is normal, whether it aligns with your gender assigned at birth or not. My sentiment is more about the way society views gender as 1) a binary that aligns perfectly with sex and 2) an inflexible and constant pillar of identity that comes before any other identifiers. This is where I got beef. At the end of the day, your personal experience of gender is just that, personal. It's a part of who you are, but it's also influenced heavily by the way society views gender and gender norms, that's inevitable. My personal feelings are just complicated. I identify as a woman and use she/her pronouns because it's easy, not because I feel particularly aligned with the female gender. I'm not uncomfortable being perceived as a woman, but I also just don't care. Gender just isn't something that I consider important to my identity. I am me, I love these things, I do these things, these are my opinions. Y'know? (It probably doesn't help that my sense of self is also just wack, but whatever.) Something that I am uncomfortable with is being viewed as a woman before being viewed as a person. I have always called myself an actor, not an actress. Cause what's an actor? Someone who acts. What's an actress? A woman who acts. Why should part of my identifier clarify that I am a woman? That just doesn't make any sense to me. This view is rooted in my feminist ideals as well, as I've always been an advocate of getting rid of gendered job titles, seeing as the masculine form is almost always the default. However, I can't help but correlate the feelings. I just want to be a person, not a woman. Most of my hesitation in reaching out to and looking into the genderqueer community is just imposter syndrome probably. I don't care about being a woman, I don't feel gender dysphoria, people on the street probably aren't going to hate crime me for not aligning myself with a binary gender, so why should I try to claim any of this. Maybe it's just me making up excuses and pretending to be queer so I can feel cool or special. Maybe all the queerphobes are right and I am pretending to aroace and nonbinary so I can fit in with all the cool kids without actually having to date a woman and transition. I know that's a messed up view. Everyone's experience with gender and sexuality is extremely unique and no one will fit into a single box. I'm allowed to have these feelings without hating myself. It's just hard and scary. But c'est la vie.
On a lighter note, I love the asexual pride flag, it's so pretty, and I love the aromantic pride flag, it is also very pretty. But the aroace flag isn't that great. The colors just don't itch my brain the way the asexual and aromantic flags do individually y'know?
Long post, but I got's lots of feelings. I'm sure I'll make a bunch of posts about queerness, it do be a thing, but this was a good way to get my base feelings just out there.

cause I think the thing is. like. I try REALLY REALLY hard to give people the benefit of the doubt when I get Bad Vibes, and I particularly do when they're saying my partners bc like. obviously there's a) some need to keep things smooth and not fuck up my partner's other relationships and b) it's hard to vibe out where the closeness to the situation introduces unconscious bias.
h o w e v e r
and this is in and of itself a pretty biased view but
I would say that I have yet to have a situation where in retrospect I've been too harsh in my opinions on a partner's relationship, and I've had several experiences now where I have been un-harsh to the degree of really letting their partners treat not just then but also me real fucking shitty like.
I don't think I'm a particularly jealous person (for a current example I straight up love Kofi's boyfriend he's SO FUN AND NICE AND GOOD FOR THEM. in this house we stan). and I have really liked the majority of people who've dated people I've been dating tbh. I also think I'm pretty good at telling the difference between 'I like this person but I don't think their relationship looks great' and 'I don't like this person'.
but I get So Anxious about, even in my own head, being honest about the bad vibes I get about a relationship my partner is having. it's one of the trickiest things about poly, I think, and it's something I've dealt with probably 4 or 5 times now?
cause, at least in my model of polyamory, a relationship that your partner is having with someone else is theirs, not yours. Like a relationship your sibling or parent or best friend is in - you're potentially very close to it and have ringside seats, but you're not a participant and ultimately you don't get to make decisions about what it looks like.
But like those other types of second-hand relationships, you aren't uninvolved or unaffected by bad ones. Both because you have to watch someone you care about go through it, and because as someone very close to them you end up picking up a lot of flak. When someone you love (whether it's friends, family or romantic partners) is in a relationship that's toxic, abusive, or going through a lot of stress, that has a lot of knock-on effects on you - they're stressed, they need support, they may have less energy or time, they're likely to be more reactive to stuff that triggers bad vibes in their relationship, they may need a listening ear or someone to reassure them they're not being unreasonable (or tell them if they are), they need a safe place to go when stuff blows up, all that stuff.
and that's a difficult balance whatever their relationship is to you. We've all had that thing with a friend or family member where you're threading that needle of like "ok I need to reinforce that they don't deserve to be treated like shit but also I need to be civil with their partner and not make things worse and also there's angles on this I'm not seeing, and do I tell them what I think about their partner or will they turn round down the line and be like WHY SHOULD I LISTEN TO YOU ABOUT THEM WHEN YOU'VE ALWAYS HATED THEM." that kind of stuff.
but I do think there's a specific complexity to that in a poly context. because unlike with a friend or sibling or parent or child, in a poly relationship, you and your partner's other partner are kind of in the same space. You might not be in direct competition but you're approaching each other as equals and what you have to say about someone's relationship hits different because of that.
like for me it's often cut both ways too. it drives me nuts if a partner goes to their partner for advice on how to handle our relationship. similarly I really don't want to be implying that my way of being in a relationship with someone is the Right Way and their other partner is just Less Good At Dating Them, because obviously that's not the case, we have different relationships. and I don't feel that way about friends or family. and it's not really jealousy, I don't think, it's just there's a type of closeness bred of similarity that creates a possibility of competition (not necessarily fighting over someone, but competing to be the Best At Dating Them).
in my case I think I often overcorrect for that. hence letting a lot of stuff slide in how my partners' partners behave around me that I absolutely would not let pass if they were my friends' partners. but whether you overcorrect or undercorrect I think it's really hard to navigate tbh.

Meet the cast
Fun fact: the entire cast of Bad Heroes is some flavor of LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, or both. Our table has major found family vibes because that's what we are to each other, and our mission is to tell kind, inclusive stories — the type we would have loved to see and hear growing up. 🌈
Introducing our main cast and characters:
GM | Drea Silvertooth (they/them)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Drea is the GM of Bad Heroes. They are a writer, podcaster and voice actor who loves hopeful, enchanting, and sometimes terrifying stories. They aspire to tell trauma-aware, LGBTQ+ inclusive stories that weave diversity seamlessly into fantasy worlds. When not spinning a yarn, they can be found fostering kittens and raising their rescue dog, who looks suspiciously like a hellhound.
Gydeon Greyfrost | Kazz Baloo (she/her)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gydeon is an aristocratic elf from a wealthy bloodline of draconic sorcerors. Her home city, Silverscale, is located high among the snow and ice of the Xutlong Peaks and is a shadow of its former glory. Her driving force is to pursue knowledge of all kinds, and she doesn’t give a damn about interpersonal relationships.
Gydeon is played by Kazz, who enjoys swing dancing, outdoor adventures and baking. Her goals include learning how to play the banjo, traveling to eat things, and saving up enough to buy a Mean Bean trailer.
Tonreir Ceni | Koulnis (he/him)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tonreir is an aloof half-elf druid. His intentions often shrouded, he works on bettering the land and ensuring its survival. He maintains a rather stoic presence, which has been molded over the years by callusing experiences. His owl companion Rul’Thuin is always nearby, whether others are aware of it or not.
Tonreir is played by Koulnis, who is a traveling man, real-life Viking and mild musician. He enjoys experiencing other cultures, seeing new corners of the globe, doing (legal) Viking things and sleeping!
Ira Clawstrike | Rev Winter (he/they)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ira is a wandering catfolk bard who plays the hang drum, and sometimes hits people with it. His idealism and tendency to rush headlong into situations often gets him into trouble. He's motivated by love, and is on a musical quest to find recognition, gold and maybe a soulmate or two along the way.
Ira is played by Rev, whose curiosity about people's stories and desire to help others has led to a career within the criminal legal system. In his free time, Rev loves to play with sports balls, run and walk on trails, and eat all the new tasty treats — not unlike a labrador. You can often find them cuddled up with multiple cats on a couch or playing various games with friends.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rihva is a kayal — a descendant of humans trapped in the Shadow Plane — with an obscure past. Her solution to any problem is to bluff her way out, and if all else fails, to stab it and vanish. An opportunist and schemer who acts before she thinks, she’s on the run from some sort of debt.
Rihva is played by me, Lian (the person writing this post)! I also substituted in to play Wingthe for several episodes after the departure of our former castmate Jake. I'm an editor by day and the show's co-producer by night, and my current hobbies/special interests include sound design, music mixing, and learning how to draw.

Ah, medieval Europe (or at least what looked like it). A great place to be walking around totally lost in 21st-century garb with a really obvious Mage Vibe™ about you. No, really! It's not like you'll get stared at weirdly or anything! Well...
"You know, I really think we shouldn't have walked into this city without casting some sort of illusion on ourselves," Fanny says, gazing uneasily around her at all the strange looks the party was getting.
"I should have thought of that myself, honestly," Franzi replies, in her workout outfit that was clearly showing her well-toned arms and midriff. "I have the distinct feeling that it's not entirely appropriate here to be out in the world showing more than your ankles. Or to be a woman wearing pants."
"You tell me. I fucking hate being stared at," Minona mutters. "I can feel the white people judgment pouring off these fuckers. Like they just know that their counterparts in our world flip their shit at seeing a Black person in a hoodie…"
"For once I'm glad not to be in my kitsune form," Wolfie muses.
"It's not as though any of us could have guessed we'd end up in a place like this," Felix muses. "Or predicted in advance what kind of clothing we'd have to wear."
"Well, I know one person who could have predicted it," Fanny grumbles. "Wilhelm von Blumenthal! You do seiðr, don't you? Can't you predict the future with that? Couldn't you have given us a heads up about--"
She pauses, not hearing a response.
"Hey--where is that little brat anyway?"
----------
The little brat seemed to have other plans. Grinning broadly, he'd slowed so that the group could travel a short distance ahead of him, then ducked into an adjoining road and weaved his way through the little town until he could reach the central square. He didn't care for the townspeoples' suspicious looks, or their superstitious whispers. He wanted to know one thing and one thing alone: Whether the whole "music from the future could kill a medieval peasant" meme was true.
He got up on the central platform from which the town crier presumably announced his messages, and, pressing a finger to his throat in a bit of projection magic to boost his voice even further, called out, "Hear ye! Hear ye!"
The townspeople milling about whipped around, startled. That certainly wasn't their town crier's voice. Before them appeared a man (or was he a boy?) that looked no older than twenty--perhaps younger, even, judging by his short height and that impossibly fresh-looking face. And what on earth was he dressed as? What material were those blue pants of his made of, and why did the kneecaps look frayed? The shape of the letters on his short-sleeved shirt were familiar, but none were literate enough (or well-versed in foreign languages enough) to understand that it read, "WODAN WAS A FEMBOY." They did, however, note that it featured an old bearded guy in makeup and a dress. And immediately, every single one of their hackles went up.
"Citizens of this quaint little town," Wilhelm says, willing his voice to speak in Allspeak that would allow them to understand what he wished to communicate. "As humble as you are, you no doubt have been exposed to the beauty that music can offer you. Where I come from, I have heard the splendid tunes of traditional bards of my day, such as 'Gangsta's Paradise' and 'Pumped Up Kicks.'" He's referring to bardcore, of course. "But today, I will introduce you to a new kind of music. A transcendent experience unlike any you have ever heard before. One that will lift each and every one of you from your well-despised serfdom, and in exultation make you kings and queens. Listen well, for if you do not take the lessons of this new form of song to heart, you may never hear it again. Now is the time! Hear the music of the future! Hear the music of the REVOLUTION!"
A baton materialized in his hand. And as it did, the sound of Ride of the Valkyries poured forth into the air.
----------
"Hello! Bonjour!" Franzi calls to a shopkeeper along the path, waving with a cheery smile. Maybe if they were simply pleasant to these people, they'd excuse their strange appearances. "You wouldn't happen to know where to find--"
But the shopkeeper merely glared at her and turned away, pretending to busy herself with reorganizing her stock.
"You try, Fanny," Franzi sighs. "At least you've got a dress that covers your ankles--"
But it's not long before a sudden burst of music floods the town--Ride of the Valkyries, pouring out from its center. With such dramatically stirring opening notes, no one could miss it--least of all the rest of the Classica family. Fanny jumps as soon as she hears the noise--for that is what Wilhelm's music is to her, noise--and balls a fist.
"Oh, there he is, that insufferable--" Fanny doesn't even finish her insult before tearing off in the direction of the sound.
"What the fuck does he think he's doing?" Johannes cries as he hurries after her. "Do the words 'keep a low profile' not mean anything to him?"
"I probably shouldn't refer to my own grandson as an attention whore," Minona says, "and yet--"
"We can complain about it later," Franzi says, hurrying ahead of Fanny. "We have to grab him and get out of here. Now!"
----------
Wilhelm grins as he let the music flow through the open space, letting the magic overwhelm the senses of all those in front of him. Gone are the town's buildings around him, swept away by a grand illusion of a towering Norse hall soaring through the clouds, guarded by illusory Valkyries that took the form of his most beloved opera singers. A young dark-skinned woman with long hair soars forward, raising her spear to deliver the opening bars of the song;
"Hojotoho! Hojotoho! Heiaha! Heiaha!"
The voice bursts out in what could either be seen as an angelic resonance piercing the heavens or an all-out assault on the eardrums. The peasantry of this small medieval-looking town seems to have taken it as the latter. The townspeople scream at the intensity of the music-magic being hurled at them, hands planted on their ears as the force makes them collapse on the ground. That's to say nothing of the unfamiliarity of it all. What are these instruments, so ferocious and harsh? There is singing, but why is it like that? The sound of the strings arcs and swoops through the air like a lance intent on piercing them, while the brass pummels them without mercy. Some have literally fainted at the shock of the sight and sound; some manage to stand up, and hurry off to God knows where. Franzi sees them leave out of the corner of her eye; it can't be anything good.
"Wilhelm! What do you think you're doing? Get down from there!" Franzi calls, barely audible above the sound.
"Why?" he yells back. "I'm just seeing whether that meme about modern things killing medieval peasants is actually true. And I think it's working!"
"Fucking hell, Wilhelm!" his brother Johannes cries out. "We were literally just asking for directions!"
"We need to go now, before we get into any trouble," Franzi says, ascending the platform and grabbing Wil by the wrist.
"But the fun was just beginning…" Wilhelm pouts.
Well, the fun would come to an end just as soon as it began. Below, a large crowd had gathered, torches and pitchforks in hand, one person even with a long rope fit for tying someone to a stake.
"We were literally just asking for directions," Johannes repeats, as Franzi slings Wil over her shoulder and the group hurries off.
----------
"Put me down! Holy shit! Mom! Put me the fuck down!"
But it's no use simply to scream about it, or to beat her back with his tiny fists. The entire group has roped him up with their magic as Franzi hauls him out of the city, sparkling lines like music staves wrapping around him to bind him to her back. Each one of them alone, he can comfortably take, but when they all worked together, it's a different story…
"We can't stay here anymore. Good job," Fanny grumbles. "Now we're going to have to find another town, and God knows where that would be--"
"Of course we can stay here! There's nothing these simple townsfolk can do against the might of all our magic combined. And what makes you think we can't survive on our own until we get back home, anyhow--"
"It's not about magic, Wil! Not everything is about strength of magic! How would you like to be in a space where you can only force everybody to tolerate you?" Fanny cries. "Well, I mean, you probably already know what that's like, because that's basically the state of your fandom…"
"HEY!" Wil shouts.
"You know, I thought it was funny," Wolfie says cheerfully. "I wonder how they would have responded to my Cupcakke remixes--"
"Don't enable him!" Fanny thwacks Wolfie on the shoulder with the back of her hand.
"Hey, guys," Felix pipes up, "there's a--"
"Come on, loosen up," Wil says, grinning. "Of course it was funny! These people have never heard anything more than some bards tinkling away on a mandolin. Didn't you see? Ride of the Valkyries was literally blowing them away!"
"Well, the fact remains, you basically ruined our reputation in this town before we even had a chance to ask anyone for help," Fanny says.
"Guys, there's a--" Felix tries to interject again, but again his friends keep fighting.
"Yeah, and?" Wil challenges. "It's not like these people have Internet or anything. We can just find another town!"
"Word still gets around!" Fanny says. "It might be slower than in the modern day, but you know people still talk. How many times was your soulbound life caught causing trouble because people kept catching up to you?"
"That was the 19th century! This is a bumfuck century! Big difference!"
"Guys," Felix says, finally being heard, "there is a lady with blue hair following us."
"Huh?" Fanny turns around.
The whole group does, in fact. And there, in the trees, is a lovely young woman with strikingly fluffy blue hair and strangely pointed ears, staring at the party like they'd just come from another universe (which, of course, they did). They knew at once what she was, like what many of the townsfolk suspected: nonhuman. Perhaps that might make her a better ally here than most.
"Hello," Fanny says, stepping through the group to see her better. "What's your name?"

Transformers Earthspark Review: Ep 2 (Part 2) - 10
I'm going start off by saying not a bad run. I got a little disappointed how Elita kind of was shrugged off after her debut to make random appearances more so than actually being among the team like promised but it's not bad. For a children's show, spectacular! For a fan show, it's got its funny moments like Optimus and Megatron texting in a group chat. That's hilarious.
My favorite thing about the series so far is Arcee being a chaotic element and Soundwave and his Minicons being the dream team. Frenzy's change of gender was kind of unexpected but whatever, it works. We can roll with that no problem. Wheeljack has grandpa vibes too.
(And to answer one post I had whether or not I would ship Megatron and Arcee in this, now that I know what we're dealing with...I say it's possible though it would be more in reverse than normally how the ship would work which I'm not going to complain about one bit.)
I noticed some things that become the harsh reality of the show are very stressed but abandoned quickly by each episode's end to make the series seem happy-ever-after ala MLP style. It's a bit annoying how they flip-flop through it too. A few things that stood out are that Bumblebee doesn't seem to want to be with the Terrans (humans he has no problem with) but he is forced to seem happy with his students when I can tell he doesn't like them. Animating a smile on his face doesn't give me the impression he actually appears happy from his posture, animators. Megatron pointing out Optimus' hypocrisy imprisoning Decepticons and then suddenly apologizing for it which he shouldn't have because he was right and none of the issues with said hypocrisy actually get fixed aside from releasing a few Minicons they just captured. Congrats, you did nothing to help the problem; you're stuck at point one again. They basically made Megatron get over it in one episode which makes no sense.
Another thing is Thrash who has the personality of a Decepticon yet no one really questions it. They assume he just doesn't like rules because he says so like RID15 Sideswipe, but his mannerisms tell me if he was created before or during the war, he would have been a Decepticon and he would have killed people. His personality is so egotistical but its hidden behind, of course, a childish demeanor because you can't have the main characters openly showing what can be perceived as a dark intent. Twitch is no innocent here either.
Skywarp though still is not my favorite because although I don't have a problem with her gender change, I always loved the bash brothers mentality between them, Starscream, and Thundercracker. It's sad that they have separated the trio the past few decades which I always though they missed out expanding on in the cartoons. It was another complaint I had against Cyberverse introducing the character but then not doing anything with her with her two peers.
Now, what I kind of like now is the Terrans (not counting the newer three)...but not as you think. As mentioned above, I find the hidden quirks of Twitch and Thrash's personalities, which make them seem a bit more dangerous than they are supposed to, to be actually cool. A shame they have to play the good guys because they would make better Decepticons. And the whole water thing, boy, that is a terrible weakness that they just go rampant without water before dying/going into stasis lock. Now, it could be actually a good thing because, for those of you who don't know, Quintus is the mastermind behind the Quintesson race who took over Aquatron and/or other water-carrying planets. He learned his lesson by making those of his design easier to defeat in case...anyone decides to turn bad again. That's smart.
Dr. Mandroid is basically Silas, just a different motive up until now, and now he's more or less a carbon copy. It's like they combined Silas with the making of the Quintessons but gave up halfway what they wanted to achieve and it's not even close to mid-season. I don't get it. If you're going to half-ass a serious villain, get rid of him before the end of the season or something.
I'm not going to say anything about the rest of the humans. We're pretty decent in that regard.
All in all, while I do like (and other people, of course, pinpoint this as well) the changes to Megatron and Optimus' interactions with each other and among the humans which leads to many funny moments, this series has some problems in pacing. Not going to sugar coat that. Too many conflictions on what they started off doing and what they were trying to achieve plot-wise. I praised the plot once before but now I'm not so certain. The little moments between all that, especially with Megatron and Optimus, make the show but everything else isn't really working well.
Then again, kids show so can't expect myself to like every Transformers cartoon ever made. But maybe it's the time. I ended up liking a lot more of RID15 after rewatching it a year after it ended. Maybe just watching this as a new series isn't sitting right. I don't know.
