the 地方(region) in the jp name of inkadia (ハイカラ地方) makes me think it's part of a larger country... but that begs the question of what that country could be and if it's in the same country or a different country from the splatlands. definitely not dead set on this tho lol we know basically nothing about splatoon world politics

okay extra details here

these are not my FULL ENTIRE HEADCANONS i just wanted to list down all their character flaws for fun and because i was bored. there are some good things about them as well im just not writing them down.

all of them were just raised to be like that they are not evil in the core of their minds or anything

ive got a whole backstory for these guys

to me, calf1sh is like a toxic yuri thing where callie is like oh i can fix you, you poor poor soul you never deserved this i’m gonna be the one to make you feel better and then dedf1sh is like i literally got myself stuck being dead what makes you think i want to get out of this situation

pearlina is fine. this is just the flaws. normally theyre talking and marina says sorry suddenly and pearl is like oh you don’t have to say sorry for everything. marinas learning okay

craig/captain cuttlefish will still squidnap random kids off the street to work for him and not pay them. this is just a thing he does. octavio is like no, please stop it thats wrong

deep cut is like team rocket. they just be like that and theyre friends with benefits. i also may or may not have been angry on why shiver kept getting hated on while literally all the characters had their flaws

erm so yeah

will add more. also they ARE very wholesome. once again these are just their flaws compiled together so they could be not perfect for a bit

An actual question which is pretty popular in the Splatoon fandom, how do you think lings wash themselves? Keep themselves clean. Canonically it is stated that water affects them.

Well I actually think I got a pretty good idea of this one !

I've made a little illustrated guide which pretty much summarizes it all, but here is my thought process beneath it anyways. (Long post buckle up)

So, while it's true that in my mind their ink is already taking care of most of their dirt, one can only swim into their own body fluids before it starts to reek. Especially while being a(n ink)fish. Besides, enemy ink inevitably creates irritations if not properly cleaned off at least once or twice a day. (Off The Hook advises to clean your tentacles thoroughly after a match canonically.)

Now about the water issue, the main thing to keep in mind is that it's mentioned it dissolves Inkfish, sure, but only if they are submerged in it (because ink is less dense that water). So I think that they can take water drops, although it's also mentioned (in a game dev interview) that their skin actually breaks really easily.

But they CAN clean themselves nevertheless ; they just have to follow a few rules.

Absolutely NO BATHS.

Showers only, but put on the lightest drop setting, to the point the water feels more like drizzle (the type of rain they endure the best), just enough to get them moist and allow them to get themselves clean.

(There are specially designed shower heads on the marketplace for that, although it's the norm to have a shower with multiple options. It's recommended to always test the shower when looking for a new place, and use a portable spawner for the first times to be extra secure. Also, check your water pressure before going for a shower.)

Be gentle with your skin and tentacles while cleaning. Use foamy soaps, preferably, and soft sponges. If you're too rough, you might break the skin.

Only run the water to get yourself moisturized, then to wash the soaps. Not any more than needed.

At any time, if it starts to sting, or you feel weak, cut the water and take a break. Listen to your body.

If you don't have the time to take a shower, if you're not feeling like it or simply don't have a shower, there are always specialized body wipes available anywhere in stores. Fitting different kinds of skins & tentacles, with various perfumes, they are ideal to be used between Turf Wars or for a quick groom on the go. You can even clean yourself integraly this way if you wish, but please if you must do that in public, do so in Swim Form. Be decent.

(However, keep in mind the body wipes may be somewhat cheap and required to be at least recyclable, and also a huge market/job source, they still represent a budget, and important waste. Avoid resorting to these only. Water is in most places paid for by the community.)

In any way, do not neglect your hygiene. Else you may develop irritations, itching, dry & crusty tentacles (especially in choppy tentacuts), infections if nontreated injuries, and of course bad odor, which gets pretty bad as you count as a fish. All of these can get you mocked of and ostracized, as Freshness comes from having your turf and yourself figured out and taken well care of (we like to show that off), and unlike you may think- YOUR PEERS NOTICE.

And, of course, always brush your beak and scrub your tongue at least twice a day. Bad hygiene within the beak is the least tolerable, squiddos <3

And so yeah, those are their golden rules when it comes to hygiene. As you can see, I might have gotten a little overboard with it, but I wanted to make it feel like a legit cleaning guide, as I suspect that's something that is taught thoroughly to young Inkfish.

They have various illustrated child books/notices about cleaning safety, and probably have at least one mandatory class about that when they're in elementary school or younger. Being fresh 'n shiny is pretty important, and they are taught to take care of their turf/living space and of themselves, because they need that so they can then properly show off. So they are taught how to do it properly and safely early on, and they're not kidding about that.

I mean in a social system where the store managers can straight up refuse to serve you if you're deemed not fresh enough, you've got to be a little serious when it comes to your personal figure.

Agent 3/Captain 3 Mental State

Do y'all ever just think about how Agent 3 might actually have a different kind of problem mentally- like, I see a lot of people always talking about the brainwashing and the fighting Octavio and the Octarians as their "flaw/trauma to over come" and dont get me wrong I love these flaws in their character! But I've just been thinking-

What about a hero complex? I mean, it might be typical, but Agent 3 has been working for the New Squidbeak Splatoon ever since they where about 14, they've been put in death situations over and over again- so what if they tie in their worth to their abilities? To what they can bring to the table-

Yet every couple of years, a new agent, a new person who did what they did all those years ago, but...better at times, Agent 4 (that one oc) saved the great zap fish, beat Octavio, and they did it while fighting Callie, and now Captain 3 has been- basically replaced by Neo 3, who fought Octavio, and a bear in literally space! Captain 3s achievements slowly pale more in comparison, and Agent 8 went through everything they went through in heels

The rest of the squidbeak splatoon is similar, Callie and Marie are literally idols and the original agents of the New Squid beak splatoon, Marina is just Marina, smart with technology and good at musician and paved the way for octolings to enter inkling society, Pearl is practically a princess with the voice of a torpedo, deep cut isn't technically part of the squid beak splatoon, but they are also idols-

All to say...Captain 3 might feel the need to prove themselves, they did take up the spot of their beloved Gramps, and even if he is a bit of a nut job, he was a literal War Hero and legend, Captain 3 is in the shadow of so many great people- insecurity complex might be their new dearest friend!

Anyways, this was just a bit of a character study using nothing but my tired imagination- give me your thoughts and feed back please and thank yous!

Agents agents agents + a couple of ocs! I remembered that my cephalopods come in many patterns so I decided to explore that!

Notes abt patterns below-

Cap3: has many scars, most have healed. Though some of the sanitation effects remain around their wrists and hands, as well as their tentacles... their left eye is almost blind.

Agent4: Naturally glittery skin and tentacles, kind of accents the metallic patterns acquired from getting partially washed out by Order. Those arent metal fingers, those are patterns!

Additional design note -- she used to be way more sparkly, but the loss of her faith in herself made her colors fade. Easier for Order to wash her out then, no?

Neo3: fucking beaste. Kept trying to eat falling into the fuzzy ooze during her mission and now has a part of it in her dna. Sometimes gets more mammalian features (fur, hair, claws...on one occasion she sprouted a tail!)

Agent8: Same as the first design I made, now with added jelleton inspired patterns due to Side Order! Maybe bc she destroyed a bunch of em wkdndk

The rings have been with her awhile, she had decided to show em off once she got out of the Deep Sea Metro.

Agent5: Patterns reflect his time in the labyrinth -- rain, the sea, the rings reminiscent of the foam kicked up by changing tides.

Agent6: ...this is just Mags! His hair shimmers like crow feathers dipped in gold. His ink is actually yellow, but he really doesnt like his hair being that shade -- so he changes it manually to reflect his preferences. His magic circles are the one set of tattoos he allows to show through in this inkling disguise.

His stripe pattern is referencing his patterns in his original form! He looks like hes always wreathed in golden flame.

(His size meanwhile befits his fighting style -- dual wielding splatana stampers)

The last two are Croissant and Melon, the first owned by @pastille-pain!

Melon: her ink is naturally pale. The powdery patterns are reminiscent of snowfall and moonlight simply bc I like that aijdje. Theyre pearlescent/opalescent, shimmering as she moves. When she gets emotional, she starts to glow with colored spots!

Okay so, I definitely feel like Eight is the type of girlfriend to sing you the "bingo bingo baby, I love you. ain't that crazy? i want you, i want you, over again :)" part of the song over and over

I feel like in general, she sings to you a lot, usually in the comfort of your shared apartment

Will grab your hands and dance with you back and forth with a big smile on her face

She always knows when to dance with you, too, like

She can pick up on when you're having a bad day and she knows how to approach the situation perfectly

It's probably from her time being an agent, analyzing situations and body language, but she's also just an intuitive person :3

Will force you to get outside and go on walks with her, will point out the funny shapes in the clouds with you and will even buy you ice cream or boba!

Just wants to be with you :') she loves you so much

When it comes to cuddling, this girl is a monster

She will open her arms for you to crawl into, and when she's done wrapping her arms around you??

Absolutely loves kissing you and looking into your eyes

She will cat stare you from across the room, and her pupils literally dilate when looking at you

She really is the "bingo, bingo, baby" audio because she basically is a cat

When you're working on something, say on the couch, she'll just plant her head in your lap and stretch out unbothered with a yawn

"Uh... Eight?" "Hm?" She yawned, closing her eyes happily as she pushed the laptop out of your grasp

"I was working on-" "No.-" She cut off, looking up at you with a pout

"Come on and cuddle." She whined, demanding attention as she snuggled her head into your lap

Eight. LOVES. Cuddling.

I don't need to say it again

This girl will lay her head on you always

On the train, on the couch, out in public

In the mornings when she's really sleepy, she'll even cuddle you from behind and rest her head on your back

In bed, it's heaven

She gets close, right up against you, but sometimes she wants her space

She usually will always have a body part touching you though, cause she just likes to be close to you

She's a little bub

Having dates with Eight is so fun because god forbid it's like turf, say, she gets ultra protective of you whilst also being your biggest fan

Like, during matches, she'll hype you up even if you're on the opposing team and will splat her own teammates (or try to) if they're coming at you

You were getting slammered by a Splatana user, they just wouldn't leave you alone!

Suddenly, from across the map, you hear a loud charge ring out!

Shit! This time she was actually going to splat you!

But the body next to you fell to the ground, and the little spirit floated up with a whine.

You looked back at Eight, who now stood there from behind the bridge hiding spot

She waved to you with a closed mouth smile, her E-Litre perched on the cement top

You had to stop swooning over how cute she looked because you almost got splatted yourself-

Eight could be so clueless sometimes tho, it was hilarious

A turf player was explaining turf to you like you were stupid, and you were clearly uninterested

Looking to Eight, you gave her a look, hoping she'd catch on, but instead, she just smiled at you confused-

Oh, Eight... what are we gonna do with you

After that conversation the best thing she said was, "He smelled like Crusty Sean's van... embarrassing."

Eight's facial expressions are everything omg-

When she dislikes something, she makes it known

But the cutest of them all was when she once saw you <3

The two of you had been apart for a long time due to her work during SO, and she had texted you that she would be coming home soon

You decided to meet her at the entrance to the train station, and you noticed her walking around nonchalantly taking in a new part of the city

Suddenly, she caught a look of you, and she did a double take

Her previously grim expression was now full of joy as she saw you and all of your greatness

See? Y'all, when I'm telling you she loves you... she loves you

She instantly rushed over and hugged you, kissing your cheek a ton as she greeted you

"I missed you so much!" Her voice rang out, happiness in every word

Her accent makes everything cuter omg

When she pronounces certain words, she says them uniquely and it's so cute

You tease her about it sometimes and she doesn't even pay any mind to it, just repeats the word with cute confusion

"And so I was telling him to give me the Octo Snypear (Sniper)." "Heh... Snypear."

"Snypear."

"..." "..."

"Anyways-"

You're not judging her for her accent, you just find it cute that she pronounces certain words a certain way

Surprise, surprise, Eight gets needy

Aside from her wanting to cuddle, there are some days that she comes up to you and just needs a hug

Sometimes her mind gets too foggy and the memories get to be too much, and she just needs you to be there for her

She walked over to you, your smile fading upon seeing her own frown

"Baby, what's wrong?" She didn't say anything, just hugged you and whined softly

Poor baby just needed some comfort and your touch

It's often all she needs

She'll take naps cuddled up on your shoulder, her head resting there as she hugs your torso

Surprisingly, she's not too big on lip kisses, but she does love a good makeout sesh here and there

For the most part, she'll kiss any other part of your body like your hands, your cheeks

But each kiss is fast and repetitive

She just loves you so much, and she shows you

Through her care for you, her kisses, her little favors for you

Need something?

Before you could think of it, she's on it

The best thing about Eight, was that one night, after a bad breakdown for you

You went to take a shower, and when you came out, the towels laid out for you were warm, fresh out the dryer...

This girl took the time to do that for you... she really loves you

AGENTS KPOP GIRL GROUP AU!

hi tumblr you’re my favorite so you get the thought process behind these

Captain 3

obviously 3 HAD to be the leader and founder. also since shes the oldest LOL for the rap battle bit alone i made her the main rapper. grungy tone cold flow scalding lyrics and hype as hell.. i don’t listen to kpop much but i guess like rap monster from bts? also dj sango just had to make her the main mixer. she’s over the shoulder of any producer with a death glare and she likes to freestyle dj and look for inspiring samples in her free time.

Agent 4

since the face of the group is basically the PR member getting invited out to places, agent 4’s always stepping up and representing the group with quick wit and loads of charisma. i wanted to make her the main dancer originally but i had to save something for neo LOL so i think main still works! doing most of the dancing at the front and hyping up neo

Agent 8

ok so i never got this far in my draft but i took inspo from marina being the vocalist of oth. agent 8 canonically likes poetry and whatnot so i feel like she’d do some singing to herself. she fits the flowey shape language of a singer i could stick her in a dress and drop her off at a jazz gig. Her importance across all the stories makes it make sense that she’d be lead vocal which is Important i think. also she just looks ethereal she deserves visual most visuals in kpop girl groups that i really like have her long hair and catlike features

Neo Agent 3

I just think the youngest getting center so they’re always visible is Nice. out of all of the agents only second to 4 i feel like neo gets out the most and would be a cypher cat (a breakdancer who does a lot of dancing in the midde of the circle/cypher). idk i just think itd be nice

Frye is not a Vampire Squid.

It's one thing to headcanon something, but it's another to pass it around a fact, which is why i have to say: Frye is not canonically a vampire squid. This idea originated from a popular twitter thread made at the time of Splatoon 3's direct, and the evidence it's based on is...weak. And yet I still see this info passed around... Yeah I think Frye is just supposed to be a regular Inkling.

the splatoon team has shown us that inklings, like humans, can have a lot of diversity. while our player character models are limited, in-universe its a different story. these are all considered regular inklings. look at the varied eye masks, faces,...they can even have blue skin! So i think that frye is just the splatoon team showing us how more diverse inklings can be.

I made a google drive folder of Inkling hairstyles with a lot of concept art, you can see many diverse examples. To address the other specific points of evidence used:

Long fangs: All Inklings have sharp "teeth"/ beaks. Inkling beak shapes can vary. the last one appears to have a snaggletooth.

Long ears: Ear shapes can vary as well. compare ears of the squid sisters with the player character. Pearl has short ears. hell even the player inkling ears between s2 and s3 are different.

purple fingertips: prior to S3, fingertip coloration was something only seen on octolings, not on inklings. with how her and Shiver can freely change finger tip colors according to their ink, it seems like just a thing inklings and octolings can Do and we just haven't seen much of until now, like how we didn't see much varied hairstyles until s2. Perhaps with how integrated octarian culture is in the splatlands, inklings have caught onto this style as well? Her earrings, the sharp pointy bits in her design: Yes this was used as evidence for the vampire squid thing. That's all eel motifs.

Now the biggest reason she cannot be a vampire squid... vampire squids are NOT squids! They're more closely related to octopuses, but really, they're their own thing (also they're called 'bat octopuses' in japanese... the language the splatoon developers speak. nothing to do with vampires or squids)

With how splatoon's designs have been so far, other species of cephalopods are not guaranteed to look like inklings, especially if not closely related to ink-producing squids and octopuses (and vampire squids are not) Here we have a dumbo octopus (not octoling). also nautiluses. In the case of a species that would be more closely related to the playable species, what seems to be an octoling based on a blue ringed octopus.

Going off this, if the splatoon team were to make a vampire squid character, it most likely wouldn't be a subtle 'inkling/octoling but 2 inches to the left,' For such a unique species, I think they would be pretty explicit about it in the design itself. And considering that they are deepsea creatures that do not produce normal ink, a vampire squid in splatoon might look pretty odd! In conclusion...please stop claiming frye is "supposed to be" or "canonically" a vampire squid, it's a flimsy headcanon based on superficial traits at best and there is zero evidence that was the developer's intent.

(And while I'm here, Pearl is not confirmed a pygmy squid, marie is not confirmed to be a firefly squid, marina is not a webfoot octopus etc. That's fanon based on their japanese names, not canon. As far as we know, the player inklings and inkling idols are all just one species of inkling. inklings and octolings seem to take inspiration from multiple species, but it's not confirmed if they are those species.)
