Thinking of Agent 4 and how she lost faith in herself.
more deets under the cut!
I saw a comment somewhere that this bitch is very diligent in college so what if after Octo Valley she went back to her normal life. And as such became just another face in the crowd
I feel like as the workload got heavier and heavier, that confidence started to wane. Damn was she brilliant at first but now shes flailing
She takes a break, and decides to come visit base. See some old friends.
Theyve already moved on. Apparently not needed anymore, turns out.
The spankin new Agent 3 is leagues more capable of things than she is. This goblin fought a giant bear??? In space??? Beat the octo king like its nothing?? (She likely didnt have the context of Octavio not having Zapfish power.)
"Huh? Agent 4? Whos that? The one thats supposed to be a big-shot?"
She had the potential to be great, but she wasnt up to par with expectations. Thats all she was. *Potential.* Cant match up to any of the greats -- she isnt even gonna try to compare herself to the legendary Captain, or the scrappy Eight.
Damn. The least remarkable of the platoon. No wonder everyone left her behind.
Tldr.....uh..... 4 decided to pursue a degree and in the process drifted away from the platoon. After struggling in college she decides to go back to them for a bit
Shes already carrying that disappointment for herself from her academic struggles, seeing these new agents (+ promoted Cap3) made that impostor syndrome worse, I think
She *was* great, but I suppose she herself forgot. And with how easy she won the fight everyone thought that maybe that mission wasnt so hard after all.
As the years went by, everyone including herself thought that that mission was just a cakewalk.
Its like.... this activity was indeed hard but it looked so easy when they did it. And then everyone expects them to keep growing. Young genius becoming an einstein
at least, Marina saw that shes worth having around as security in Memverse...even if Pearl doesnt think that shes good enough. (Shes judging her from the way she presented herself. With such low confidence, how can you be good at anything???)
And what if the reason she was so easily dragged under enough for both a palette to be made from her soul, AND create Intensifying Harmony, is bc she agreed with Order on certain aspects
"I will make you perfect. Just like before. And you will stay perfect forever."
"Go on, then. Please. Save me."

Welcome to JTV Pokecenter! Please ensure your pokemon are in a carrier, on a leash, or in their pokeballs at all times. Thank you!
Your friendly neighbourhood veterinary clinic is probably the closest thing in real life to a pokemon center, eh? So here are some pics of a few of my patients re-imagined as pokemon. I’ve been meaning to do a mashup like this for a while, but now seems a particularly relevant time.
(And if you ever visit our little clinic with your real life critters, I’ll check out your pokemon as well for free! ;) )

I think the Hunger Games series sits in a similar literary position to The Lord of the Rings, as a piece of literature (by a Catholic author) that sparked a whole new subgenre and then gets blamed for flaws that exist in the copycat books and aren’t actually part of the original.
Like, despite what parodies might say, Katniss is nowhere near the stereotypical “unqualified teenager chosen to lead a rebellion for no good reason”.  The entire point is that she’s not leading the rebellion. She’s a traumatized teenager who has emotional reactions to the horrors in her society, and is constantly being reined in by more experienced adults who have to tell her, “No, this is not how you fight the government, you are going to get people killed.” She’s not the upstart teenager showing the brainless adults what to do–she’s a teenager being manipulated by smarter and more experienced adults. She has no power in the rebellion except as a useful piece of propaganda, and the entire trilogy is her straining against that role. It’s much more realistic and far more nuanced than anyone who dismisses it as “stereotypical YA dystopian” gives it credit for.
And the misconceptions don’t end there. The Hunger Games has no “stereotypical YA love triangle”–yes, there are two potential love interests, but the romance is so not the point. There’s a war going on! Katniss has more important things to worry about than boys! The romance was never about her choosing between two hot boys–it’s about choosing between two diametrically opposed worldviews. Will she choose anger and war, or compassion and peace? Of course a trilogy filled with the horrors of war ends with her marriage to the peace-loving Peeta. Unlike some of the YA dystopian copycats, the romance here is part of the message, not just something to pacify readers who expect “hot love triangles” in their YA.
The worldbuilding in the Hunger Games trilogy is simplistic and not realistic, but unlike some of her imitators, Collins does this because she has something to say, not because she’s cobbling together a grim and gritty dystopia that’s “similar to the Hunger Games”. The worldbuilding has an allegorical function, kept simple so we can see beyond it to what Collins is really saying–and it’s nothing so comforting as “we need to fight the evil people who are ruining society”. The Capitol’s not just the powerful, greedy bad guys–the Capitol is us, First World America, living in luxury while we ignore the problems of the rest of the world, and thinking of other nations largely in terms of what resources we can get from them. This simplistic world is a sparsely set stage that lets us explore the larger themes about exploitation and war and the horrors people will commit for the sake of their bread and circuses, meant to make us think deeper about what separates a hero from a villain.
There’s a reason these books became a literary phenomenon. There’s a reason that dozens upon dozens of authors attempted to imitate them. But these imitators can’t capture that same genius, largely because they’re trying to imitate the trappings of another book, and failing to capture the larger and more meaningful message underneath. Make a copy of a copy of a copy, and you’ll wind up with something far removed from the original masterpiece. But we shouldn’t make the mistake of blaming those flaws on the original work.

Agents agents agents + a couple of ocs! I remembered that my cephalopods come in many patterns so I decided to explore that!
Notes abt patterns below-
Cap3: has many scars, most have healed. Though some of the sanitation effects remain around their wrists and hands, as well as their tentacles... their left eye is almost blind.
Agent4: Naturally glittery skin and tentacles, kind of accents the metallic patterns acquired from getting partially washed out by Order. Those arent metal fingers, those are patterns!
Additional design note -- she used to be way more sparkly, but the loss of her faith in herself made her colors fade. Easier for Order to wash her out then, no?
Neo3: fucking beaste. Kept trying to eat falling into the fuzzy ooze during her mission and now has a part of it in her dna. Sometimes gets more mammalian features (fur, hair, claws...on one occasion she sprouted a tail!)
Agent8: Same as the first design I made, now with added jelleton inspired patterns due to Side Order! Maybe bc she destroyed a bunch of em wkdndk
The rings have been with her awhile, she had decided to show em off once she got out of the Deep Sea Metro.
Agent5: Patterns reflect his time in the labyrinth -- rain, the sea, the rings reminiscent of the foam kicked up by changing tides.
Agent6: ...this is just Mags! His hair shimmers like crow feathers dipped in gold. His ink is actually yellow, but he really doesnt like his hair being that shade -- so he changes it manually to reflect his preferences. His magic circles are the one set of tattoos he allows to show through in this inkling disguise.
His stripe pattern is referencing his patterns in his original form! He looks like hes always wreathed in golden flame.
(His size meanwhile befits his fighting style -- dual wielding splatana stampers)
The last two are Croissant and Melon, the first owned by @pastille-pain!
Melon: her ink is naturally pale. The powdery patterns are reminiscent of snowfall and moonlight simply bc I like that aijdje. Theyre pearlescent/opalescent, shimmering as she moves. When she gets emotional, she starts to glow with colored spots!

I do want to say re:food appropriation, for Palestinians it is a very very very sensitive issue. I don't know a single Palestinian who doesn't react vehemently to calling food "Israeli." One, because you have to recognize that this is within a larger pattern of completely erasing Palestinian identity, and two, because food is an essential core part of culture, where historical, familial instruction should be acknowledged.
I find it incredibly.... insulting to say "well food can be exchanged between cultures and people, so what's the big idea?" and neglect the fact that even within the Levant, there is a diverse array of cooking styles. To call certain dishes "Israeli" especially within the context of how the state of Israel was established, plays into the erasure of Palestinians.
It's often necessary to attribute the food we eat to specific cultures. For example, I, a Palestinian, would never claim ownership over Macarona Bil-Bashamil, or Yalenji, because they're "Arab." That's just not how food culture works. Different cultures, different climates, different environments all contribute to the food we eat and the clothes we wear. Food in itself is political because of how heavily it is tied to a location in which things are grown and raised.
Food is what builds community. Women, young and old, pass this knowledge throughout generations. And ESPECIALLY between peasant families that grow and raise the very flora and fauna we rely on in our dishes. This is a professional sort of knowledge that we celebrate and consider incredibly important. To strip our very food of our identity is not only insulting, but negates the centuries worth of food culture we've established in favor of homogenization. So yes, it IS possible to appropriate food, especially when you do not acknowledge the centuries worth of knowledge shared.

absolutely love it and find it mesmerizing when the line between art and real life is so blurry. like when you look at a photograph and you’re like!!!! there’s no way this isn’t a painting it looks too beautiful to be true!! or the opposite when you’re looking at a painting and your brain goes ! ! ! Because it looks SO real. too real. and i just think. not only do we kind of live inside one huge beautiful painting but we also sort of create our own world through art. it’s so wonderful i have tears in my eyes
