May 7, 2021: TRON (1982)
Starting to leave lo-fi sci-fi with this one.
Tumblr media
Can I just say, I am VERY excited for this one. Mostly because it’s hard to get more ‘80s than this movie, specifically in terms of computers. I’ll explain. Y’know Jurassic Park? Yeah, the same movie I’ve brought up far, FAR too many times this month. Is...is that my favorite sci-fi movie? Shit, it might be? I’ve read the books, I’ve seen the movie COUNTLESS times...I’m pretty sure it is! Huh. Go figure. Anyway, where was I?
Tumblr media
Oh, right! Remember the most irritating character in the movie? This is, in my opinion, older sister Lex Murphy. In the book, for the record, she’s a VERY different character. She’s the youngest sibling amongst the two, and she’s a sports nerd who hates dinosaurs. And she’s also the most annoying character in the book, so at least they kept that consistent. However, you may be saying to yourself: “Jesus, this dude really loves Jurassic Park. Even in the intro for Tron, he’s talking about it. Why the hell does he keep bringing it up?”
Well, allow me to explain. When I was 9 years old, I was super into two things: dinosaurs and reading. You may think that I wasn’t very popular in school as a result. And the truth won’t surprise you. Anyway, on January 3rd, 2001, it was a cold morning in the supermarket when
Tumblr media
...OK, lemme get to the point. IT’S A UNIX SYSTEM!
See, this moment when Lex hacks into the computer to reactivate the locks (a task given to Tim in the book, but whatever) does two things. One, it makes Lex relevant in a film and story where she’s almost entirely unneeded. And two, it established something in the minds of movie-watchers everywhere: a completely misguided idea of what computer programming is.
And this is just one of MANY examples of Hollywood weirdly representing computers to the public. This was kind of a trend throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, as computers were beginning to become available to the public. Examples are:
Tumblr media
WarGames (1983), dir. John Badham
Tumblr media
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), dir. James Cameron
Tumblr media
Revenge of the Nerds (1984), dir. Jeff Kanew
Tumblr media
Weird Science (1985), dir, John Hughes
Tumblr media
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), dir. Russo Bros
That last one isn’t a great example, and it’s not even within the right time period. I just love Arnim Zola, and he NEEDS TO RETURN to the MCU. Goddamn it, I want this guy back, complete with his full robot body! COME ON FIEGE, LOOK AT THIS GUY! That last one may or may not be my fanart for the character with my own design NEVERTHEGODDAMNLESS!
Tumblr media
Look, all you gotta do is connect the various machinations of Arnim Zola to the foundations of AIM, which is easy given their link in the comics. Zola and his fellow Paperclip scientists helped fund Aldrich Killian’s AIM, and the project to give Zola his sick-ass robot body eventually wound up being a part of the project that would create the hovering robotic chair used by this guy.
Tumblr media
THIS IS ALL I’VE EVER WANTED PLEASE
...Ahem.
Anyway, the weird-ass ways that Hollywood’s represented computers, hacking, and all other associated things can be traced back to 1982, when the first film to use mostly computer generated imagery for its setting was created. This was, of course, Disney’s TRON. And while I haven’t seen it before...I’ve see its sequel in theaters?
Tumblr media
On a related note, Tron Legacy might be a mediocre film with a mediocre soundtrack, but GODDAMN DO IT LOVE THE FUCKING VISUALS. It’s genuinely my favorite aesthetic. That whole “outlined in light” thing? Goooooooh, BABY, how I love it.
Tumblr media
Style over substance, but OH THE FUCKING STYLE
Anyway, despite that, I’m looking forward to seeing where the whole thing came from. I dig that style, too. Is there a name for those aesthetics? Let me know, so I can devote my life to it forever. Anyway, shall we get started?
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Recap
Tumblr media
So, we start this movie off with a BANG, jumping into an arcade where two kids are playing none other than Lightcycle, and jumping into said Lightcycles to meet one of the drivers, Sark (David Warner). A sadistic program, he takes great pleasure in executing programs in Lightcycle races.
One of these programs, in fact, is being brought into imprisonment now, to be set against Sark in a race. The program, Crom (Peter Jurasik), speaks with fellow prisoner Ram (Dan Shor), where we get some idea of the lore of this place. Many programs believe in “the Users”, god-like figures who they believe created them and tell them what to do. However, the mysterious Master Control Program is rounding up the programs that believe in Users, taking over their functions or executing them. Diggin’ the lore so far.
Tumblr media
In the real world, we meet Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), a computer programmer commanding his own program, Clu (also Bridges), and...look, I’m not sure what they’re doing, but OHHH. IT’S A UNIX SYSTEM, BABY. The beautiful bullshit that this movie uses to denote computer activity and programming, it’s...MMMMMMMMMCHEF’SKISS, it’s so FUCKING GOOD!
Anyway, Clu’s apparently being sent to find some information, but he’s caught by Master Control. Jeff Bridges shows off some pretty over-the-top acting, but it’s charming as hell. Clu’s interrogated by Master Control Program (also Warner), and killed, or “derezzed”. This frustrates Flynn, but why?
Tumblr media
Well, we get a clue from MCPs concentration with Ed Dillinger (David Warner), who arrives at his office in the COOLEST FUCKING HELICOPTER I HAVE EVER SEEN. I will never make enough money to have this helicopter, but maybe one day I can do it to a car, holy shit. Anyway, Dillinger lands and enters the ENCOM building, where he speaks with his computer table, which contains MCP.
Is this a thing with computer programmers? Do they, like, physically talk to their programs, and the programs talk back? Is this a thing that happens? Are the conversations interesting? Are IT people literally computer-whisperers? I gotta talk to my friends in computer sciences and IT about this.
Tumblr media
Apparently, Flynn’s been snooping around their servers for a specific file, and they’re trying to stop him from getting that file. Meanwhile, in an office in the building, a man named Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) is blocked out of the system in an attempt to flush out Flynn’s location. Bradley’s summoned to the office for what seems like a routine interview, but is actually more of an investigation. Doesn’t go anywhere.
On a side note, by the way, it would appear that MCP is somewhat in control of Dillinger. Although, how and why is unknown. In any case, he’s attempting to amass power. Additionally, the fact that he’s directly speaking to one of the Users is...interesting. And on a second side note, Bradley is preparing something, a security program called “Tron”. That might come up later.
Tumblr media
MEANWHILE, elsewhere in the building, a group of scientists are conducting an experiment to digitize solid matter and transport it into computers. It succeeds with an orange, much to their delight and celebration. One of these scientists is Lora Baines (Cindy Morgan), Flynn’s ex-girlfriend and Alan’s current girlfriend. They go to the arcade to reconvene with Flynn, much to Alan’s irritation.
Flynn not only owns the place, he’s also a game whiz, brilliant computer programmer, and recently fired ex-employee of ENCOM. He’s also been sneaking into the ENCOM system, and he details exactly why he’s moving against them. While working for ENCOM, he had started writing programs for some very complex video games, which could’ve have made him quite a bit of money. But Dillinger stole his files, and uses it to climb up the ranks to Senior Executive of ENCOM, while Flynn lounges in relative poverty. He’s planning on getting into the system to get evidence of Dillinger’s wrongdoing.
Tumblr media
The trio plots to take down Dillinger and get the evidence together, breaking into ENCOM that night. Meanwhile, Dillinger’s meeting with Walter Gibbs (Barnard Hughes), a co-founder of the company, and one of the other scientists who made the digitizing machine. Dillinger says YOUR TIME IS OVER OLD MAN, and brushes off his concerns about he’s handing the company.
He’s not the only one with issues, as MCP decides to take over FOR Dillinger. Apparently, Dillinger’s talents are stealing data and creating Cybernet/HAL 9000. Good job, buddy. But that may end, when Alan goes to finish and install his program, Tron, which will hopefully take MCP down. Meanwhile, Lora and Flynn go to the basement with the digitizing machine. At the computer terminal, MCP decides to stop Flynn by...well, you know where this is headed.
Tumblr media
Yup! Flynn’s brought into the computer by Lora’s machine, and is digitized and put into the game grid. And since we’ll be spending a lot of time there, I think I need to acknowledge something: I really love how this movie looks. The CGI is rudimentary, but it’s used surprisingly well. Consider that this is also made in an era where this is the kind of imagery that computers could literally generate at the time, and you’ve got a pretty great movie in-context.
Tumblr media
Flynn, now in those spiffy program duds, is sent by the MCP to compete in the Game Grid, under Sark’s supervision and tutelage. He’s thrown into the brig with the other imprisoned programs, where he learns more about this world. Once brought into the throes of the Game Grid, he’s told that those who believe in the Users are to be trained poorly, ensuring their inevitable death. Meanwhile, those who renounce their belief will be spared. And of all the programs who still believe in the Users, there is none quite as powerful...as Tron (Bruce Boxleitner again).
Tumblr media
We see Tron’s badass skills in Ultimate Frisbee. And OK, it’s not Ultimate Frisbee, but you throw discs that contain all of your essence and all of the things you’ve learned in your time there. You basically pour your entire essence and being into the disc as you throw it. So, really, it is Ultimate Frisbee, according to that one dude who’s REALLY into Ultimate Frisbee.
Flynn is commanded to play one of these games, and he winds fairly easily. However, when he defeats his opponent, he’s almost about to die. However, Flynn refuses to finish him off, leading Sark to do so instead. And Sark is tempted to kill Flynn as well, but he holds off at the last moment.
Tumblr media
Flynn finally gets to meet Tron, where he feigns being a program that knows of his User, Alan. Of course, Tron looks exactly like Alan, which is why Flynn blurts out his name. But as they’re discussing this, Flynn, Tron, and fellow prisoner Ram are sent to compete in the Lightcycles. And, yes, I’m now looking for a game like this on my phone, because GODDAMN to I love Lightcycles. Can’t WAIT for the Disney World ride, oh my GOOOOD.
Tumblr media
So, our guys get in the Lightcycles, and they outmaneuver Sark’s guys. They’re actually able to escape the arena and the Game Grid, making it outside the citadel. They encounter a, uh, bitstream, and soak up some energy before moving on. On the way, though, they’re nearly killed by Sark’s guys in tanks, and Tron is separated from Flynn an the unconscious Ram.
Flynn and Ram finds a place to rest and hide, and Flynn discovers that, as a User, he actually has the ability to somewhat manipulate the reality within the computer, and he makes a version of MCPs ships, the Recognizers, which resemble the villains in Flynn’s game that Dillinger stole. Now realizing that Flynn is a user, Ram asks him to help Tron, before dying and disappearing into pure code. Whoof.
Tumblr media
Tron, meanwhile, ends up finding an input/output program named Yori (Cindy Morgan), who helps him in his escape. She takes him through the city, where we see some interesting designs for control programs, almost like a Hunger Games Panem sort of deal.
Flynn has trouble driving his ship, as he meets a “bit”, a small bit of data that only answers in yes or no. He, too, ends up in the city, and you start to notice that this film has a really heavy influence in our cyberpunk concepts and fashions today. Honestly, I really dig this whole thing. Kevin uses his programming powers to disguise himself as one of Sark’s guards, while Yori and Tron find their way through the main citadel of the guards.
Tumblr media
They make their way through to the access tower, where they ask the program Dumont (Barnard Hughes again) to let them access the interface that will allow them to speak with the Users, specifically Alan. Reluctantly, Dumont agrees to let Tron through, where he goes to the access port. Which, for the record, looks awesome. He goes to speak with Alan, and he does that one pose. Y’know, the famous Tron pose that’s on the poster?
Tumblr media
Yeah, that’s the good stuff. Anyway, he gets information written onto his disc that’ll allow him to kill MCP. Neat. And unfortunately, that’s exactly when Sark and his guys show up, taking Dumont away as Tron and Yori escape. Yori gets them onto a Solar Sailer, a device that will transport them to the central computer. Tron fends off some of Sark’s guys with video game noise kicks, and the Solar Sailer arrives to take them away.
Sark chases after them, but the pair manage to outrun his very cool-looking ship. MCP threatens to destroy Sark for his failure, but he promises that he’ll be able to get them. On the ship, Tron looks down at the side to see Flynn hanging on. Turns out that he was one of the guards that attacked the two. Tron pulls him up onto the ship, and Flynn reveals that he is, in fact, a user. He also reveals that Users aren’t exactly the gods that programs believe them to be.
Anyway, how’s Dumont doing?
Tumblr media
Ah.
Well, the Recognizers find Tron, Yori, and Flynn, and chase after them on the light beam the Solar Sailer is on. However, with his User powers, Flynn manages to get the Sailer onto a different beam, while pulses on the original beam destroy the Recognizers.
Doesn’t end up mattering much, though, as Sark finally catches up and intercepts the group. The Solar Sailer is destroyed, and Yori and Flynn are thrown in the brig with Dumont, who’s still alive! Can’t say quite as much for Tron, apparently. But, again, I can only assume that Ton is still alive. We’ll see, though. Sark denies Flynn’s identity as a User for some reason (I mean, MCP told you who he was, but OK), and he sentences them all to death. Outside the ship, of course, is Tron, who’s hiding and waiting for the right time to strike. And that is when we finally see him.
Tumblr media
Glorious. Absolutely goddamn glorious. MCP is taking the remaining programs that believe in Users, Dumont included, and incorporating them into his mass. Meanwhile, Sark has found Tron, and the two are fighting with a classic game of Ultimate Frisbee. Tron nearly defeats Sark entirely, but MCP revives him, and gives him the power to take out Tron. He grows gigantic, and it looks genuinely really convincing.
Flynn prepares to take out MCP once and for all, and kisses Yori just beforehand, which is weird as shit. He jumps into the program, and controls it just long enough for Tron to throw his disc at it and land the finishing blow. And with that, MCP is ended, and the threat of take over is gone! The I/O towers light up, and the Video Warriors have won! Don’t ask me what that means, I study birds.
Tumblr media
And with ALL OF THAT DONE, Flynn gets the proof he needs from a print-out that, to be honest, I feel like he could’ve just typed up himself. It doesn’t look like that much. But, still, MCP is gone, Dillinger’s screwed, and Flynn now gets a cool-looking helicopter of his own, as the new CEO of ENCOM. And from there, he will become a deadbeat dad that abandons his kid to live in computers forever. Or something like that, it’s been a while since I’ve seen Tron Legacy.
Tumblr media
And that’s Tron, a goofy movie of its time, but one that’s a lot of fun all the same. And with some effects that, to be honest...I actually really liked! But more on that...IN THE REVIEW! See you there!

Heyya Zee! <3 Here for the top 5 post... Let me see....
Top 5 of your fav movies? (:
OMG! Hi @kin-rokku ❤️❤️ How have you been? Hope you're well!!
Ooh that is a tough one. My favourite movies change every day I think 😂 so to make things a little easier, I'll give you my top favourite movies from the MCU and Marvel-affiliated movies if that's okay haha.
1) Venom - I know, I know. Bet you didn't think this was first, huh? But it really is. I'm not joking, this is my comfort movie. My friend and I have watched it together at least 3 times and separately a least four times. I just never get bored of watching Tom Hardy bicker with himself for 2 solid hours. So needless to say, I'm psyched for the sequel.
2) Deadpool - duh. This was my favourite until Venom. It's just *chef's kiss* everything I ever dreamed for my favourite Canadian child. Ryan Reynolds is absolute dream casting and every meta joke and reference is just hilarious and perfect. I really liked the supporting characters too, particularly Blind Al and liked Vanessa's portrayal too. The story is just a solid origin while being wildly fun.
3) Captain America: The Winter Soldier - this is still my favourite MCU film, I think. It's like a spy thriller that masquerades as a superhero movie. I LOVE SAM WILSON!! Also, Sam, Steve and Nat as a trio are iconic. I ALSO LOVE BUCKY!! I like the expansion of Bucky and Steve's dynamic but now in the modern world and how it sets things up for their future paths. It's solid storytelling.
4) Ant Man - I just had a blast with Ant Man, tbh. Scott is so funny as a character, Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are amazing and oh my god Luis just cracks me up every single time. Such a fun film.
5) Iron Man - I think for purely nostalgic reasons, Iron Man takes this spot. It's the one that started the universe, the one that sucked me into the franchise and RDJ really is phenomenal in the role. I also love Pepper and Happy and the villain is predictable but solid.
Honourable mentions: 1) Guardians of the Galaxy - I adored this when it first came out. Love a found family trope and the soundtrack is still one of my favourites ever. 2) Spider-Man: Homecoming - Spider-Man has always been and will always be probably my favourite superhero (excluding Deadpool lol). And Tom Holland does a wonderful job. I loved Keaton as the villain and omg Marisa Tomei 😍 I like Peter's dynamic with Tony too and how it sets up future films and MJ and Ned are chaotic and I love them.
Thanks again for asking, this was so fun ❤️❤️

For the ask thing :3:
Top 5 animals? Top 5 fav/comfort movies? Top 5 fav cartoons/shows?
I’m honestly glad to know theres other people including you who actually like Pakku and his character :3 Yes he was a completely asshole at the start but he did change, it’s just that it was so subtle that not everyone saw it
Also random song associations with characters:
Fighter by Jack Stauber reminds me very well of Piandao, Pakku, and Jeong Jeong as their younger selves during the war.
Why do I associate Grace by Lewis Capaldi with Bumi? (the music video tho would give more context to why it might make sense)
Oh Klahoma by Jack Stauber reminds me of Piandao and his overall anxieties for his partners.
Consider some of these songs as sorta song recs? Idk but still :3
1. Giraffes!! the reason why their tongues look like That is cause of extra melanin and to prevent sunburn!!
2. Seals!! there are 33 different kinds of pinnipeds and there over 50 extinct pinnipeds
3. Dogs!! they can only see in shades of blue and yellow, so bright red roses look yellowish brown and lively green grass look dehydrated and dead
4. Crows!! a group of them are called a murder
5. Cows!! they’re actually colorblind, they can’t see red specifically, so male cows, bulls aren’t getting mad at the color, they’re getting angry at the movement
1. The Losers movie from 2010, it’s a action mystery movie about Clay and his team that are a part of an elite US Special Forces Unit and are approached by a mysterious woman to exact revenge on their handler, Max, who betrayed them and just,,,the characters, CHRIS EVANS, jake jensen and all of his kinda weird glory, THE ELEVATOR SCENE, also cougar!!
2. Captain America and The Winter Soldier movie, it’s a action movie, which makes me realize that a lot of my faves are prolly gonna be action something, but anyways, it’s about Steve Rogers, who now lives in the nation's capital as he tries to adjust to modern times. An attack on a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague throws Rogers into a web of intrigue that places the whole world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Natasha Romanov, and a new ally, Sam Wilson, Steve struggles to expose an ever-widening conspiracy, but he and his team soon come up against an unexpected enemy. oh my god,,,just,,,the fight scenes, the running scene at the beginning of the movie, steve meeting sam that way, just everything!! this was also my introduction to marvel so in my mind no other marvel movie can live up to this (other than spiderman away from home)
3. Spiderman Far from Home, again, it’s a action movie, i’m not gonna explain this cause the post is getting long, but!! mj and peter!! just,,,all of their scenes!! also jake gyllenhaal!! the fight scenes!! the soundtrack!! everything about it is amazing!!
4. Thunderforce, again, i’m not gonna explain, it’s an action adventure and comedy movie (ofc it is look at the other 3 🙄 /s), the relationship between lydia and emily!! the relationship between lydia and emily’s daughter!! the humor!! the fight scenes!! the soundtrack!!,,,,just everything about is good despite the bad ratings
that’s more like a top 4 than a top 5 but that’s like,,,,all the movies i genuinely like and will rewatch if given the chance and for that where’s a honorable mention: Hamilton (the movie version on disney+ that came out i think nearly a year ago), the soundtrack is amazing, the characters are better, got some funny moments and is mostly historically accurate, like yeah angelica did forget her name cause at the time of her meeting alex ham, she was married to a man named john church (or something church idk) so her last name was church but she introduced herself to alexander as angelica schuyler, not angelica church, so in satisfied she was telling the truth about forgetting her own name, but in the same song she said that her father had no sons even though the real angelica had 3 brothers.
1. Avatar the last Airbender, ofc or else i would have a blog (mostly) centered around it and it’s sequel /s but fr though?? it’s such a good show!! zuko’s redemption arc, iroh’s redemption arc (even though his more subtle than zuko’s) , aang!! love him and his character so much, especially when he gets to be a sassy little shit, sokka and his shit humor and brains, katara, toph, hakoda and HIS shit humor, the fight scene with hakoda (he fights kinda like a waterbender, using his opponent’s momentum against them), bato and his lovely, lovely voice, piandao, aang going ‘how about he get on YOUR back and you can fly us to the south pole’ or something like that to sokka after he complained about appa not flying higher, the boiling rock episodes, hakoda apparently being a good dad but a shitty prison riot starter (love that for him), just!! atla is such a good ass show, im not changing my mind. also!! i like the way they introduced ozai, not showing his face but still presenting him as not only a shit dad, but a shit person as well, like up until book three, we only saw him like, the neck down and in like, a flashback or two (i don’t really remember how many flashbacks ozai was in actually cause it’s nearly been a full year since i last watched it) and that’s it, so it made seeing his face for the first time all the more better cause you was already like ‘what the hell does this shitbag look like’ and then you see him and now ur like ‘oh!! THATS what he looks like!!’
2. The Legend of Korra, again, ofc or else i wouldn’t have a blog (mostly) centered around it and it’s prequel, just,,,,korra’s arc from being hot headed to calm is fantastic but also sad considering the way she went from that to this, korra’s book 1 character!! for whatever reason i really like b1 korra, just,,her design, her hair style (even though she had it for nearly the entire series) just!!! book 1 korra <3, also the entirety of book 1!! just amon posing as a anti bender nonbender despite being a waterbender himself, the scene where tenzin and his kids nearly lost their bending, which would’ve meant that, if tenzin did lose his bending but his kids didn’t, that would’ve meant the strongest airbender would’ve been his 11 year old daughter, the gruesome way to end the season finale episode by doing a murder suicide which was dark as fuck for what?? a kids show??, also the villains in this show!! their good as hell!! the backstory of the red lotus and how and why they were created?? amon and his anti bending?? kuvira and her plan to basically rule the earth kingdom (idk i haven’t finished book 4), unalaq and his spiritual stuff and wanting to become a dark avatar and fusing with vaatu?? also!! the other disturbing scene of korra basically getting tortured near the end of book 3, i mean?? it deadass left her hella traumatized and unable to walk, again hella dark for a fucking kids show
3. The Walking Dead, even though i haven’t finished it or watched in like, 4-5 months, i just,,,the way the presented negan!! practically foreshadowing him the entirety of season 6!! him appearing at the very end of the season 6 finale and pretty much having an entire episode dedicated to him in the very beginning of season 7 (which is why some fans argue he was introduced in s7 not s6 cause of the fact that he didn’t show up until the very end of the s6 finale but had an entire episode with him in it in s7, while others say vice versa cause the very the first time we see him was in s6 not s7), the fact that the walking dead logo was getting progressively more and more decayed as the series go on?? the fact that the WALKERS (the zombies) are getting more and more decayed as the series go on?? dale’s death scene?? shane’s death scene?? negan’s relationship with rick’s daughter?? the fact that this show also has what?? 11, 12 seasons?? which reminds me that i’m still on season 9 of twd
4. Sabrina the Teenage Witch, just,,,salem and his sarcasm?? sabrina’s aunts?? sabrina herself?? just!! everyone is just so fucking funny in this show it’s unreal, specially salem!! a lot of my favorite scenes have salem in them, the ‘are you on a women’s chat room again?’ (or something like that) and salem saying ‘i like the attention’ in response, that one harvey and salem scene that i don’t know how to describe without turning this into a giant paragraph like the ones before this one
5. blue’s clues, it was my favorite childhood show and i love the reboot of it so much!! especially p for pride moment in that song i don’t remember the name of, blue themself!! steve leaving which was sad but getting an equally amazing host in the process?? amazing!! the scene where salt and pepper introduced their baby, paprika?? just,,,it’s such good show and i loved it when i was younger and i still love it now!!

Movie Meme
I was tagged by @missbeckywrites! Thanks for thinking of me; I know I have others that I’ve neglected which are languishing in my drafts. Somewhere...
Favorite movie: I don’t think I have a favorite movie, per se... Just ones I enjoy watching over... WALL-E, Rise of the Guardians, Lord of the Rings... All feel-good movies I enjoy.
Movie that makes you remember your childhood: Disney movies. Doesn’t matter which, but they have to be the classic renaissance ones. Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Snow White (this isn’t renaissance but shush), the Black Cauldron... I watched Ferngully: The Last Rainforest in the last two years and that was a nostalgia trip.
Favorite Tom Hanks movie: ...The only thing coming to mind is Castaway and I know that’s not my favorite movie.
Movie that makes you cry: It’s so hard to make me cry when I watch movies. But Avengers: Endgame did it for me when I left and was processing what had happened to Tony.
Favorite 80s movie: ...none?
Favorite comedy: I don’t really tend to watch comedies... But! I enjoy movies with Jackie Chan in them, and those tend to run along the line for comedy.
Favorite sports movie: Gods, sport movies... Mighty Ducks???
Favorite courtroom movie: ??
Favorite war movie: Hm...
Favorite animated movie: Oh goodness, animated movie... There are a lot I enjoy greatly... But I do really enjoy WALL-E and Rise of the Guardians.
Favorite horror movie: No.
Favorite gangster movie: Um...don’t watch these either.
Most overrated movie: missbecky listed Thor: Ragnarok, and I have to agree with her. I had the same issue with emotional moments being cheapened by jokes. Characterization was totally off. Was it a fun movie? Sure; I found it funny. Did I think it good? Not necessarily. Works for standalone if you don’t watch anything else, but as a long-time Marvel fan? Did not like.
Movie with the best soundtrack: I’m awful with soundtracks. But I do love the Lord of the Rings. Also Harry Potter for Hedwig’s theme. And Tangled!
Movie you can watch over and over: WALL-E. Lord of the Rings for sure.
Most embarrassing movie you love: I don’t. If a movie is super embarrassing, I can’t watch it.

Do you enjoy politics? It’s really hard to talk about politics in the U.S., as I’m sure most of you know, because regardless of what “side” you pick (which is ridiculous, political parties should NOT exist), the other side will attack you and call you names (though I do see the right being far more aggressive with name-calling). Personally, I consider myself somewhere in the middle. I actually had a long-winded paragraph going into more detail but I cut it out for the sake of my own sanity and I don’t need people hopping into my ask box to attack me for my opinions. So, in short, no, I do not enjoy politics.
Classical or romantic? Not sure? Little bit of both I guess
Do you have a type? Not really, I’m kinda all over the place. Like the last guy I pursued was a redhead with blue eyes, the guy before that was dark haired with dark eyes, and the guy I want to get to know now has darkish hair and light eyes. I prefer guys that are taller than me (which is surpisingly hard to find where I live, and I’m only 5′7″ so you’d think I’d find more with the average American man being 5′9″ but oh well). This guy I like now is taller than me though. I do find myself attracted to athletes, though, and intelligent guys who find it cool that I like to write and want to be an author. Though, if someone came through that was like Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth I’d literally melt into a puddle.
What are your aspirations? I want to be a published author. Not even necessarily be an author with multiple bestselling novels, but a published author is my ultimate goal in life. I’d also love to be a travel writer and a full-time blogger.
What is your philosophy of life? I think that if everyone just stayed out of everyone’s business, everyone would be a lot happier. Even if I don’t agree with a way someone choose to live their life or a choice they make, it’s really not my place to judge them or try to take away their rights to make that choice or live that way. It’s no one’s place because guess what, we’re all humans, and you’re not telling someone that they’re less of a human than you are because they don’t live the same lifestyle as you. It’s pretty simple, actually. I also think people should just in general be more understanding and kind to one another, and upfront to each other about how they feel.
Feel free to not do this! I’m going to tag @hiphopguerrilla, @inkdropsonroses, @asexualravenclaw1, @thethew, @thefifthsunqueen, @cohldhands, @human-nonsense, @thewingwriter, @aschenink, @ava-burton-writing, @perringwrites, @queenmoonsworld, @aro-ace-from-outer-space22, @pheita, @princess-my-oath, @tamaravonb, @underneaththemoonanthestarz, @siriusly-procrastinating, @katywritesbooks, @greenhousewriting

MCU Movies Ranked
So like... I saw @anniemar‘s Marvel movie rankings and I really wanted to do one too.  I probably won’t finish this tonight because I have THOUGHTS and narrowing them down and nailing them down is going to be work.  BUT, I figured I’d give this a shot.  I’m going to start from the bottom and work my way down.  I’m basing this off the liklihood of me rewatching again soon or ever.
Edit: I didn’t finish it last night, I had more thoughts than I thought.  :P
19. Iron Man 3 - I didn’t dislike this movie?  It was a little all over the place, but I adore the Pepper Potts character development and Rhodey is always a pleasure.  It just wasn’t my favorite and you can probably consider this one and the next two to be tied for last, I just picked this one at random to stick here at the very bottom.
18.  The Incredible Hulk - I would have liked this more if it weren’t for Ed Norton.  I love Betty Ross and wish she was in more films.  But Ed freakin’ Norton man.  Sorry.  Not a fan of his casting.  I’m so glad Mark Ruffalo was recast in this role.  SO GLAD OMG.
17.  Thor the Dark World - While this does have my main girl Darcy L AND Loki AND Thor, it’s not my favorite. Malekith just wasn’t scary or believable as a villain... there were some humorous parts, but not enough to make me actually sit through the entire movie again when I can just go watch the best parts on youtube.
16.  Avengers: Age of Ultron - While my fave was introduced in this film, he was also killed in this film so meh.  Plus the whole too-long-Brucetasha debacle (I don’t hate the ship, but I deplore the way it’s depicted in the film, it could be SO MUCH BETTER and mehhhhhhhhhhh). I wish James Spader had been utilized more. It was just... meh.  And my fave got killed.  So nah.  Not a favorite, and I probably won’t rewatch it unless I’m just watching through the entire MCU for some reason.
15.  Captain America: Civil War - This whole movie just... ugh.  Besides having one of my favorite villains of all time, and introducing one of my favorite characters (T’challa) ...I just... mehhhhhhh
14.  Iron Man - Again, nothing really wrong with this, but I probably wouldn’t watch it again unless I was doing a watch through of all the MCU movies.
13.  Doctor Strange - I didn’t not like this movie.  In fact, I thought it was kind of well done.  But at the same time, there are things about it (casting things, etc) that have me placing it lower than I otherwise would.  I would watch it again, though.  It also holds the honor of being the only MCU film I didn’t see in the theater.
12.  Iron Man 2 - Okay, this is where I start getting into my multiple rewatches and some of my favorite films in the franchise.  (In fact, my top 6 could be interchangable, I love them so much) I love this movie so much.  I feel like it was where they really started putting together the team, so to speak.  We get our first glimpse of the Black Widow, and she is spectacular.  Just everything about this movie is good and awesomesauce.
11.  Captain America: The First Avenger - I love, love, love everything about this movie.  Peggy Carter? Yes please.  Steve Rogers being a little shit and getting into fights and using a trash can lid as a shield?  Yes please.  Bucky Barnes being a total science dork and wearing THE HELL out of that uniform?  Yes please.  *grabby hands*  Multiple rewatches and I will watch it A LOT MORE.
10. Thor - I have to stick this in here because a TON of my faves were introduced.  I love Darcy (Obvi).  I love Loki.  I love Thor.  Lady Sif.  Just YAS to all of it.  <3  I have watched this multiple times, and I will watch it many more times. It’s not the best Thor film by far, but it deserves a higher spot.  <3
9.  Spiderman: Homecoming:  Okay, so mark this down as a WHOA.  Because listen to me.  I despise Spiderman.  I have NEVER liked him. Never ever ever.  I tried multiple times to like that little shit and I was never able to.  But hubby convinced me to go with him to see this bc he loves that little idiot so much.  So I did.  And I had SUCH A GOOD TIME YOU GUYS.  This movie was surprisingly good.  I love Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.  And for that reason, it gets a high spot.  For making me like a character I didn’t WANT TO LIKE.
8.  Avengers: Infinity War:  Let me be clear.  This movie ruined me. I am devastated, heartbroken... but I also cannot stop thinking about it.  I can’t stop thinking about little bits and pieces of this film.  It is staying with me in a way that a movie hasn’t done since I first watched Titanic when I was 12 years old.  And listen.  Say what you will about Titanic, but it was a good movie.  It was well made, well-acted.  It was a good movie.  The same could be said of Infinity War.
7.  Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2:  I didn’t like this one as much as the first one.  There were some poop jokes and dick jokes that I felt were unnecessary, considering that the first one did fine without them.  But the soundtrack was great. The villain, also great.  The cast, amazing.  Definitely a rewatchable film.
(Okay, after this, I’m just listing the movies, because I love ALL of these movies equally and I couldn’t pick a favorite if I tried)
6.  Ant-Man - BREAK OUT OMG.  I watched this on a whim because we had tickets to Jurassic World and had two hours to kill, so we went and watched Ant-Man too.  I absolutely loved it.  Loved all the characters, loved the narrative, loved absolutely everything about this movie.  And I had NO OPINIONS of Ant Man before I watched this movie, you guys.  I went from having NO OPINIONS to having FEELINGS and omg.
5.  Guardians of the Galaxy - ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERY MINUTE.  Perfect writing, perfect cast, perfect soundtrack, perfect, perfect, perfect.
4.  Captain America: The Winter Soldier - First Marvel movie I saw on the day it premiered.  This film is amazing.  Just awesome from start to finish.  Say what you will about the Russos, but they KNOW how to make a film flow.  They did it with every single one they’ve directed, and it all started with TWS.  Amazing, and just... gahhhhhh omg.
3.  The Avengers - Nothing will ever compare to the feeling I got when I saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assembled for the first time.  I still tear up everytime I watch it, okay?
Tumblr media
2.  Black Panther:  OH MY GOD.  I AM STILL NOT OVER THIS MOVIE YOU GUYS.  PERFECT.  Just.  This movie is everything, you guys.  Talk about tears.  Talk about grinning like a fool the whole time I watched.  It was AMAZING.  I don’t have to tell anyone that this movie is amazing, but omg, it’s amazing and gahhhhhhhhhhh.  PERFECTION.  I saw this twice in the theater and I can’t wait for the DVD to be released so I can watch it more at home!
Tumblr media
1.  Thor: Ragnarok: I have watched this movie every day since I bought the DVD.  I watch the commentary with Taika Waititi.  I watch the deleted scenes.  I watch this movie every day and I am not ashamed of how I spend my time.  I love Thor.  I love him.  This Thor is a good Thor, okay?  Bruce Banner.  *bursts into flames*.  FUCKING VALKYRIE???? OMG????  LOKI MY BABE.  FUCKING JEFF GOLDBLUM?  Can Taika make every movie from now on?  Not just Marvel, but EVERY FUCKING MOVIE. He has RUINED me for all other filmmakers.  Like, I love this movie so much, I am not even bothered by the haters.  Hate all you want, this movie is amazing.  Revamped an entire superhero.  Made the actor feel rejuvinated enough to talk about making a fourth Thor film. Made me LOVE THIS particular part of the franchise SO FREAKING MUCH OMG.
Tumblr media
Anywho, y’all should totes do your own and tag me so I can see themmmmmmm.  <3 <3 <3  This was fun and cathartic.

Marvel Post Master List
Apparently I’m doing Marvel crack posts now?  It’s tradition to make a list of them.  That’s the only consistent thing about this blog.
(Links under the cut because it’s easier to keep updated if people reblog)
*PLEASE READ THE GENERAL DISCLAIMERS*
i won’t tell you how to live your life
but it’s probably a good idea to read the general disclaimers
let’s be honest with ourselves

Have you seen all 5 million of the MCU movies?
Please note that I have not seen Captain America: Winter Soldier, Dr. Strange or Deadpool 2.  That will change when they become available and I have time to myself to watch them without my four year old asking what’s going on every other second.  I learned this the hard way when we watched Ragnarok and the first Guardians.

I don’t know anything about movies so do it. :-D answer as many as you can from 1-60
Oh my gooooodddddd. Soph this will be my death. Okay, okay, I got this.
1. A movie you’ve seen most times in the cinema.
I’ve never seen a movie more than once in theater, but I kind of wish that I would’ve gone to see Gifted more than once bc crying in the theater is an e x p e r i e n c e.
2. Your most rewatched movie.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
3. A movie you quote on a daily basis.
I just quoted Mean Girls earlier today.
4. Favorite movie soundtrack.
The Greatest Showman.
5. Top 5 films of your favorite actor and actress.
I’ll choose Sebastian Stan for this (even tho Richard Armitage is my favorite):
-the Bronze
-I, Tonya
-the Martian
-the Captain America trilogy
-Gone
Meg Ryan:
-Fan Girl
-Anastasia
-Sleepless in Seattle
-You’ve Got Mail
-City of Angels
6. Top 5 performances of your favorite actor and actress.
Seb’s are the same except replace Gone with Political Animals, his performance as TJ is iconic and I’m so sad they ended that show. Meg’s are the same too.
7. A movie storyline you wished you had actually lived.
I’ve always dreamt of being apart of the Fast & Furious movies soooo
8. A movie that reminds you of your mom.
Any of the Star Wars.
9. A movie thar reminds you of your dad.
Grease.
10. Favorite movies from your childhood.
My parents didn’t care what I really watched as a kid so a lot of my favorites consist of actual kids movies and horror movies. Disney movies like Robin Hood (I loved both Disney’s version and Prince of Thieves), Mulan, Cinderella, Aladdin, Lion King 2. And then other movies like Underworld, Van Helsing, Halloween, and Resident Evil. I had a strange obsession with the third Resident Evil.
11. Favorite quote(s).
I can’t remember the exact line, but “that kid from Brooklyn who didn’t know how to walk away from a fight, I’m following him,” which Bucky says to Steve in the first Cap film. And obv any Mean Girls quote.
12. Top 5 female performances.
-Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter-Emilia Clarke in Me Before You-Helen Mirren in Winchester-Michelle Pfeiffer in Grease 2-Michelle Pfeiffer in Stardust
13. Top 5 male performances.
-Martin Freeman as Everett Ross-Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange-Sebastian Stan in the Bronze-Leonardo DiCaprio in the Departed-Jack Nicholson in the Departed
14. Favorite year for movies.
I don’t think I have a specific year? Although 2018 has been a fantastic year for movies so far. I do have a preference for movies from 90s and early 2000s.
18. An underrated actor.
A year ago I would’ve said Sebastian Stan, but he’s recently been doing a lot of big things and has like four movies he’s doing that he plays a main character in. Now I’ll shoot for Blair Redford.
19. An underrated actress.
Emilia Clarke. People need to appreciate her more.
20. An underrated director.
Taika Waititi.
21. An overrated actor.
I’ve never cared for George Clooney tbh.
22. An overrated actress.
I love her, but Scarlett Johansson.
23. An overrated director.
Woody Allen. Not even sorry.
24. A film you wish you had seen on the big screen.
Every MCU movie besides Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther. I watched Black Panther with my sister and saw Guardians at a drive-in. I had to wait to see all the others :(
25. A movie you’ve seen that you think no one else here will have heard of?
Like Sunday, Like Rain. Please watch it. It’s absolutely amazing.
26. Favorite movie characters.
Oh my gosh. Okay. Doctor Strange. Bucky Barnes. Thorin Oakenshield. Lance Tucker. Everett Ross. Jason Bourne. Owen and Deckard Shaw. There’s more, but that’s who I can think of rn.
27. A film that was better than the book.
I personally prefer the Hobbit movies over the book, but the book is great too.
28. Best Remake.
The Goodbye Girl!
29. Your first favorite actor.
I wanna say it’s Josh Hartnett? Maybe Paul Rudd?? I loved the Halloween movies as a kid and Josh was in H2O while Paul was in the Curse of Michael Myers and I loved them both. As a kid I didn’t really care much about the actors, but I’ve realized a lot of people I liked in movies as a kid are now some of my favorites.
30. Your first favorite actress.
Like I said, loved the Halloween movies. Jamie Lee Curtis. Also Milla Jovavich.
31. Favorite animated film.
I will always, with my entire heart, love Lion King 2. I still have the VHS tape.
32. Your most anticipated films.
Ocean’s 8. Robin Hood. Solo. Ant-Man and the Wasp. Incredibles 2. I wasn’t that into Venom, but after seeing the trailer, I’m pumped.
33. Last movie that disappointed you.
The Apparition was made a while back, but i didn’t watch it til recent and I really didn’t like it whatsoever.
34. Last movie that surpassed your expectations.
Like the Apparition, Dance of the Dead was made a while ago, but I watched it about two months back and oh. My. God. It was glorious. Watch it. It’ll be worth it.
37. Share an unpopular film opinion you have.
I love romance and I don’t mind seeing it in movies that don’t necessarily need it. I mean, of course I draw the line somewhere, but for example, Kili and Tauriel’s romance in the films? I know it wasn’t in the book, and a lot of people didn’t like it, but I loved it.
38. Favorite Oscar win/speech.
This is a tie between two speeches that happened right after one another at the 2017 Oscars. Gael García Bernal’s speech before presenting an award, and the Zootopia directors’ speech when they came up to accept that award. It’s truly a wonderful thing and I remember watching it and being so grateful for people like them.
39. Biggest Oscar snub(s).
Literally. Every. Time. Leonardo. DiCaprio. Lost.
40. Who do you think is overdue for another Oscar nomination/win?
Tom Hanks.
41. How many movies have you seen (rough estimation)?
Close to 1,000, I’d think.
42. A movie that made you go ‘wtf was that’.
The Apparition and The Shape of Water. At least The Shape of Water was actually good 👀👀
43. A film that scarred you.
Oh my god, I don’t know the name, but it was something that was on tv at like 2 am when I slept in the living room one time as a kid and it terrified me. It was something about werewolves and made me question my love of werewolves for days.
44. Most movies watched in a single day.
I once watched 7 of the Fast & Furious movies in one day.
45. A film that always makes you cry.
Gifted. I cried three times when I saw it in theaters and I cry every time I rewatch it.
46. A film that always makes you laugh.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
47. Movies that you think everyone should watch (not necessarily your favorites).
The Jason Bourne series. 10 Things I Hate About You. Blended. Back to School.
48. A movie that took you a couple viewings to appreciate.
Princess & the Frog. Now it’s one of my favorite Disney movies.
49. A book that you want to see adapted to the big screen.
Either I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson or Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco.
50. A book you really, really, really don’t want to see made into a film.
I love the third Percy Jackson book so so much, and I’d kill to see that scene where they’re all on Apollo’s sun chariot on the big screen, but if it turned out like the other two Percy Jackson movies I don’t think I’d ever forgive myself.
54. Favorite coming-of-age film.
Like Sunday, Like Rain.
55. Favorite superhero film.
The first Captain America just bc it’s nostalgic for both me and those characters, and Doctor Strange. I love the Winter Soldier too so I might as well include it.
57. Movies you know you should watch, but can’t bring yourself to do it?
Thor: Ragnarok. That’s the only one I’m absolutely sure that I need to watch.
58. Favorite genres.
I’m a big rom-com and action geek tbh.
59. Least favorite genres.
Not a huge fan of paranormal type horrors, but once in a while I’ll find one I like (like Winchester).
60. Biggest movie pet peeve.
I’m not too picky, I guess? I just don’t like when they don’t give enough details so the story doesn’t make sense or they mess up and the facts don’t match up.
Yep. It’s official. Sophia, I’m dead.

My Ranking of all the MCU films so far
Hey guys! So now that I have finally caught up and watched every single film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (to date) I will now rank them from worst to best!
Just an FYI: Some of you will probably not agree with some of my choices, and that is perfectly fine. This is just my personal opinion.
Here we go!
#19: The Incredible Hulk (2008)
The Hulk has always been one of my favourite superheroes, and as far as I am concerned this movie completely ruined him. The CGI looked like a video game, the narrative was terrible. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. Just not a good movie at all in my opinion.
#18: Iron Man 2 (2010)
I actually saw this one in the theater, and I kinda wish I hadn’t. However, unlike the previous entry I wouldn’t say it’s a completely awful film. There are a couple decent/funny moments. But for the most part, it’s not great and I don’t think I’d watch it again.
#17: Thor: The Dark World (2013)
I seriously cannot believe I wasted my money TWICE to see this in the theater. I was pretty disappointed by this movie. The villain had no clear motivation. The romance was so awkward and the majority of the humor just didn’t work. The only redeeming qualities are the performances of Hemsworth and Hiddleston.
 #16: Iron Man 3 (2013)
Now, I don’t think this movie is actually that bad, but it’s just not quite as good as some of the other high caliber MCU films. I liked that they addressed Tony’s mental health issues and the film has a pretty good ending. This movie won’t exactly waste your time, but there are other films more worthy of it.
#15: Thor (2011)
While not NEARLY as bad as its sequel, the first Thor film is a bit cheesy, clunky and predictable. That being said, it’s a visually impressive movie with some pretty fun and hilarious moments. At this point I feel kind of neutral about it. It ain’t no Ragnarok but it’s not as terrible as the second installment.
#14: Iron Man (2008)
For the very first film in the MCU line-up, this one is pretty good. Right away we know exactly what kind of person Tony Stark is, and the first half of the movie is surprisingly suspenseful and emotionally charged. It has a few humorous and bad-ass sequences. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really stand up in comparison to some of the later MCU films. That being said, it’s still a pretty good time.
#13: Ant-Man (2015)
Now the only reason I put this above Iron Man is because of how much it exceeded my expectations. I really didn’t think it was going to be that good, but it was. Not a perfect film by any means, but I was surprised at how entertaining and funny it was. I suppose my only complaint would be that unless you are really into Ant-Man as a character, it’s not that memorable of a film.
#12: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Don’t get me wrong, I did think this film was very enjoyable for the most part, I just don’t think it was as good as the first one. I think what I liked most was the development of the relationship between Gamora and Nebula. I did think most of the humor was good, but there was so much of it that it ended up feeling more like a comedy rather than a super-hero flick.
#11: Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
There is no denying that Chris Evans was cast perfectly as Captain America/Steve Rogers. He is someone you can really root for, which is what makes this movie so successful. However, the film is very cheesy at parts, and some sequences are slowly paced, but overall it’s a very entertaining movie and a great introduction to one of the MCU’s most important characters.
#10: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Personally, I do think this one is better than the sequel. All of the characters are introduced perfectly, and their interactions are written in such a clever way. I also think this movie has the better soundtrack when compared the sequel, and the humor is not as overblown. I guess my only complaint would be that it kind of feels like the film makers were trying to copy the Avengers with the whole “team doesn’t get along at first but then they do” scenario. It definitely works, but it’s not the most original idea. Overall, very well done.
#9: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Although the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films (excluding the 3rd one) will always be close to my heart, I have to admit that this movie was really good. I really enjoy Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker. He has an innocence about him that makes him so likeable, and you really want him to succeed. I also thought the humor in this movie was perfect, and Michael Keaton was not just another boring Marvel villain. Overall, I would definitely see it again.
#8: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
To be honest, I don’t think this movie is QUITE as good as the Tumblr community thinks it is. However, it is pretty darn good. Some of the action and fight choreography is absolutely stunning. I love how it feels like a spy/espionage film while also displaying themes that the MCU is known for. I love the developing relationship between Steve and Natasha, and how this film exposes their true colours. Really well done.
#7: Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Again, I don’t think this movie is as incredible as the Tumblr fans say it is, but overall I did enjoy it quite a bit. A lot of the issues I had with the previous Thor films are not in this one.The Director must have realized that the previous Thor films just weren’t working, and decided to give this one a fun, energetic spin that I think was the perfect choice. Of course, I have to talk about my favourite actress, Cate Blanchett, who KILLS IT in this role (no pun intended). With a brilliant aesthetic and motivation that makes sense, she might just be my favourite MCU villain yet. In my opinion, this is the best Thor film so far.
#6: Black Panther (2018)
Alright, now we’re getting to the really good stuff! This movie took the world by storm, and it’s not hard to understand why. With a cast full of talented and diverse actors, Black Panther is unlike any Marvel movie we’ve ever seen before. I can’t tell you how unbelievably refreshing it is to see a film that is not 90% white people, it’s the other way around! Although the story is a tad predictable if you’ve seen The Lion King, the action is superb, the visuals are beautiful, and the script is very well written. Wakanda forever!
#5: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Without getting too much into spoiler territory, I will say that this film is probably the most ambitious cross-over I have ever seen in all of cinema. The crazy part is that the directors actually managed to tell a clear and concise story despite the fact that they were dealing with something like 30 characters in one film. Emotional, suspenseful, thought-provoking and hilarious, this one hits all the marks that it should in the most surprising ways.
Still not sure what to think about that ending though....
#4: The Avengers (2012)
I don’t know about anyone else, but when I first saw this movie it totally blew my mind! It truly is an epic movie with some of the best writing I’ve ever heard/seen. While I feel that fans obsessed over Loki a little too much, he is a fun villain with a pretty clear motivation. This movie also introduces Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner who I think is by far the best actor to portray the character. I feel like this is the movie that started the trend of MCU films that were actually really good. It’s a really entertaining ride from beginning to end.
#3: The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
I know exactly what some of you are thinking: “Oh my god she thinks Age of Ultron is better than the first one are you freaking kidding me”. Yes, you are correct. I do think that Age of Ultron is better than the first Avengers, and I seem to be very very alone in that opinion for some reason. Basically I think that this film has everything that made the first Avengers film good with a couple things that make it even better:
1) The character interactions are more complex and interesting
2) The stakes are a lot higher and the heroes suffer more
In a nutshell, that is why I think it’s better than the first one. To be perfectly honest I’m not really sure why Tumblr hates this movie so much. I get that nobody really likes the Bruce/Natasha pairing but is that really a valid reason to hate the entire movie? I guess I’ll never know.
#2: Doctor Strange (2016)
Unless you’ve been counting, I doubt you saw this one coming up so high on my list. It wasn’t until I started thinking about my ranking that I thought: “Wow, I LOVE Doctor Strange!” Not only is Benedict Cumberbatch an incredibly talented actor, I always liked this film because it was a marvel film that didn’t feel like a stereotypical “marvel” film (if that makes sense). Aside from having a visual style I don’t think I’ve ever seen before, I think my favourite part about this movie is the progressive character arc that Stephen Strange goes through. By the end of the film he’s not a completely different person, but his priorities have shifted and he wants to help make the world a safer place. Also I can’t talk about this movie without mentioning the SOUNDTRACK, oh my goodness the soundtrack. Here’s the link, listen and be amazed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jc0KNrpFka8
#1: Captain America: Civil War (2016)
It took me a little while to figure it out, but I definitely feel that this movie is my favourite in the MCU so far. Sort of a scaled-down version of Infinity War, this movie has a lot of characters, but the story is balanced so well that you barely notice. The comedy is really good, and is countered with scenes of irreversible emotion. Everything ties together so wonderfully, and despite the long run time, the movie is extremely well paced. Although it has one of the more darker endings in a marvel movie, it still manages to end on fairly positive note, which I love. I don’t know what else I can say to praise this movie, so I’ll end it right there.
Wow, that took a while! There you have it folks, my personal ranking of all 19 MCU films so far. If you took the time to read all of this, thank you so much for doing so. Hope you guys enjoyed it!

It’s Friday, which means episode 2 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. And yes, I am going blind react/ word vomit my reaction below the break again so consider this your SPOILER WARNING.
Are Sam and Bucky gonna finally meet up? Is someone gonna punch fake Captain America in his face? Is the government gonna get called out for stealing the shield from the museum and giving it to another white dude after Steve Rogers clearly gave it to Sam Wilson? I’ma say no, cuz Marvel sucks at addressing society issues in their media. Which is weird because if you listen to some of those 90′s disney song lyrics you’re like damn disney kinda hit the nail on the head but maybe thats because Alan Menken was in charge of like every soundtrack.
I digress! Onward to the episode!
Sometime later.....
Overall review. YAY BANTER. Also I really like seeing more of the day to day vibes of the world. Feels a little bit lived in maybe a little grime-y. Like a warn in pair of jeans that could use a wash. Kinda getting sanitized The Boys vibes a little but it is Disney. This world feels way more disillusioned that anything I’ve really seen from the Avengers world yet. Which makes sense given who Bucky is and the aftermath of ‘The Blip’ (stupid name, I like The Snap better). I also like that therapy plays a role. I don’t know if its portrayed well, but at least it gets people talking about feelings. Men talking about feelings. Let’s normalize that shit please and thank you.
Tumblr media
WHHHAATTT is this 90′s ‘Previously on’ recap!? Holy shit, your first episode was all set up. nothing really happened Disney, I don’t need a recap. shit.
Is it me or is this sound horrible and muted?
OOOOO, slowly descending zipper....my first thought is Bucky Barnes + the sexy but knowing disney its probs like a bag or something
flight suit? who is this guy and why is he fondling lockers? OH its Faker McFakerson. Fuck this guy dude. ARE YOU SERIOUS? He has a black supporting best friend? Could this scream rip off any more? UGH
“You can’t just punch your way out of problems” LOL Steve Rogers got in FIGHTS IN BACK ALLYWAYS. Like punching your way out of problems is a corner stone of Captain American. He’s mister “I can do this all day”.
Hey it was a bag. Nailed it. Also thats a stupid ugly suit, so there Fake Captain America.
Wait so he just signed a toy. Is he signing Captain America? or like his name? why would anyone want this weird dude’s name and what if the signatures don’t match Steve’s handwriting, doesn’t that devalue the signature? Oh he took the mask off, that like, answers all my questions.
NOOOOOOO BUCKY you look devastated dearheart. Get this man a couch and a hug.
also that apartment is hella empty
OOO confrontation. ouch.
lol, in 1937 when it first came out. Bucky pulling out the hipster creds. Bucky looks so tired and annoyed.
That line has annoyed me SO MUCH since the trailers. I have a bunch of people who call me a nickname because we’re CLOSE. They’ve earned that nickname. Its a sign of intimacy for me, and I’d feel violated af if someone I was only kinda friends with just assumed they could call me my nickname.
Bucky doesn’t need a parachute?! DUDE he just pulled Steve! You can’t just rip the arm of a jacket with a human hand, thats not how that works.
Yikes, ouch. how is he relatively okay? like a serum only does so much.
man has been a p.o.w for 70 years and has a metric fuck ton of trauma, maybe don’t mess with him sam.
YAASSSSS, buddy cop vibessssss.
THE FUCK WAS THAT RUNNING?!?!?! Could steve do that? did he get a booster shot in wakanda or something? wat. even.
how did the truck in back not notice?
WHAT THE FUCK DOES EVERYONE GET SERUM NOW? WHAT.
yay fake captain america showed up -_-
his friend has a matching uniform? what is this x-men?
aww Bucky shield interaction! so nonchalant too!
How did you think this would go John? cuz I mean, look at who you’re talking too. read the room...well road.
LOL the staring! I feel like thats gonna be like a 3rd character.
Uhhhh something is wrong here. Well shit thats not good.
Bucky is angry and yet so done with everyone. It also looks like he’s wearing his dog tags?
Who...? HOW DOES NO ONE RECOGNIZE BUCKY.
So wrap a history already fraught with medical experimentation with super soldier experimentation and add some racism. Oh boy.
Well Bucky got arrested. Because of therapy. Wow.
LOL. Litteral LOL. Look I don’t know if she’s a good therapist but this scene is FUNNY. GOD, I love this buddy cop banter.
Bucky, baby, muffin, darlin’. Steve wasn’t wrong about you. *where the fuck are the tissues*
How the fuck do they know they’ve been found? what tech are they using that the governments don’t have?
ZEMO! DANIEL BRÜHL!

Kong: Skull Island
Alright. If you know me, you probably know that while I enjoy a good action + comedy film, I’m not the biggest fan of monsters and horror films. Thankfully Kong: Skull Island only fits one of those two tropes. Last night (February 22) I watched this movie for the second time, multiple months after the first time I viewed it. Right away, I loved the cast, the soundtrack, the filming itself, and other techniques used in the film. On a star based rating, I’ll have to give this movie about a 4.6 overall rating. This is based on multiple different star rated categories, such as the script, the acting, the casting, the soundtrack, originality, CGI, etc. Now is when the spoilers will begin, you have been warned!
First up we’ll start with the best of the film, what I liked, or even loved, about a Kong film. Firstly, the soundtrack was done by Henry Jackman, a name I hadn’t recognized until recently. Upon searching for the name of the score composer, I realized why I had enjoyed the soundtrack so much. Henry Jackman is well known for his work on films such as 2017′s Jumanji remake, the Kingsman Duology, The 5th Wave (a guilty pleasure of mine that I’ll have to do an in depth review of later on in the year). Perhaps his most well known film scores (at least by me) are Captain America: Winter Soldier, and X-Men: First Class. He has a well rounded resume when it comes to film, so it’s no shock that director Jordan Vogt-Roberts decided to go with Jackman. When it comes to giving the soundtrack a star rating, I very early on wrote a 4.5 stars in my review notes, and watched that rating go up to a full 5 stars by the end of the film.
Next up, dialogue/scripting. I love pointing out corny or cheesy lines in films but I didn’t catch any in this viewing, nor did I expect to. What I did catch, were some appropriately timed jokes from the films arsenal of characters, helping to gently break up the tension and disturbing nature of what the characters are going through. I noted some specific example of lines that either got an out loud laugh from me or a different reaction. To start us off is a line from James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) when we first meet him. It’s specifically when he begins to list off all of the things that could possibly go wrong in order to perhaps barter for a higher pay on  the trip. My reaction was to laugh and say “well aren’t you an optimist?” I think part of my reaction was more of an uncomfortable laugh because I could see myself reacting in a similar fashion due to me apparently being a hypocrite because I’m far from an optimist myself. I really liked the bit where the Colonel (Samuel L. Jackson) brought up icarus, but told the story a little different, making the story out to not be a cautionary tale about ego, but about not having enough control, as the helicopters are starting to crash land onto the island.
I really loved Mason Weaver’s (Brie Larson) one liner shot at Conrad, saying “all that money they paid you, I hope you’re worth it.” While not seemingly meant as a nor taken as a joke, I liked how we then seemed to focus more on Conrad, seeing all the pressure placed on him and how he deals with it, possibly feeding into his character. When Houston Brooks (Corey Hawkins) is talking to San (Jing Tian) about the hollow earth theory, I thought this was so naturally and effortlessly brought up, just an everyday conversation between two scientists, as everyone is simply trying to survive the island. Another simple one liner that really caught my attention, and for a reason I cannot explain, was Conrad saying to Weaver “the most dangerous places are the most beautiful.” I gave this category a 5 star as well.
The casting! Oh my god! It was so incredibly diverse! Quite possibly the most diverse movie I’ve seen in a long time, outside of films trying to make a statement about race as its leading plot. With Samuel L. Jackson taking the lead of the traumatized and anxious Colonel and Corey Hawkins taking up the role of the dorky geologist. alongside Jing Tian also playing a scientist character, just as a few examples! Definitely a full five stars in this department.
Now for the not so good stuff. POINTLESS SACRIFICES. What was the point of Cole (Shea Whigham) sacrificing himself?! His explosives didn’t go off until he collided into the mountain, only killing himself, and hardly giving any time to the rest of the group. It felt very pointless and almost irritating. I also wish that this film had been brave enough to go all the way to rated r instead of the save PG-13 zone, just to see what else they might have done with the film. Who knows, maybe we’ll get a director’s unrated and uncut edition, but I’m not going to hold my breath for that one.
Overall, I generally enjoyed this movie, and it’s definitely worth rewatching just for fun, especially for my love of a solid chunk of this cast.

21 Questions Tag
I was tagged by @lady-redshield-writes (thanks so much!)
No pressure to do it, but tagging: @amvi1323, @lemonadeandlanguages, @nekojitachan, @breannascribbles, @raven-reyes-reads, @flo-lore-writes, @longsightmyth, @wizardheart83, @stephaniewrites, @storysparksblog
1. Short stories, novels, or poems?
I read and write a mix of both, though I’m usually better at finishing short stories and poems tbh. I like all of them; each of them have a unique way of telling something to a reader.
2. What genre do you prefer reading?
Fantasy mostly, with some science fiction and historical fiction, followed by smaller amounts of dystopia, horror, comedy, and contemporary reads. Oh and I spend about half my time also reading nonfiction about various things. I don’t really mind if the genre fiction also has romance, as long as it’s well-written.
3. What genre do you prefer writing?
Fantasy and science fiction with humor/satire/subversive stuff woven in. Also I don’t shy away from creepy stuff.
More answers behind the cut:
4. Are you a planner or a write-as-I-go kind of person?
I tend to first start writing when I get inspiration, then once I run out of steam, I go back and make a brief outline/notes doc of what I want to say in the fic and how I think it will happen when I write it. Also I make some brief notes about character backgrounds, how they look, what drives them, their major flaws etc. And then I get back into writing/revising the story again! Repeat as needed.
5. What music do you listen to while writing?
Oh, I have so many playlists. I even have some for the specific stories I’m writing! I listen to instrumental music, soundtracks, my favorite bands, etc. When I need to focus and knock something out, I put on the music that doesn’t have ads that will interrupt me (aka I don’t listen to Spotify then since those advertisements are The Worst). My favorite playlist for this is linked to my Amazon account so unfortunately I can’t share it (unless I convert it into a Spotify), but it’s called “Motivational” and does exactly what it says on the tin.
6. Fave books/movies?
Hoo boy. Settle in, y’all.
Books: the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, the Redwall series by Brian Jacques (like this series was literally my childhood), Graceling Realm trilogy by Kristin Cashore, His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, Tamora Pierce’s Tortall and Emelan books, Lord of the Rings, The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede, The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn, More Than Enough by Elizabeth Wambheim, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, American Gods by Neil Gaiman, All For the Game by Nora Sakavic, Harry Potter, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee, The Elements of Eloquence by Mark Forsyth, Wonderbook by Jeff VanderMeer, The Flavor Bible by Andrew Dornenburg and Karen A. Page
Movies: How to Train Your Dragon, Rogue One, Pride and Prejudice, Finding Nemo, Treasure Planet, The Prince of Egypt, Lilo and Stitch, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, The Big Short, Take the Lead, Drumline, Lord of the Rings (but not The Hobbit), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python’s Life of Brian, the first Avengers movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, Love Simon, Bridesmaids, Love Actually, American Beauty
7. Any current WIPs?
Yup, and I still haven’t made pages for them yet! (Maybe after finals are over in two months... *sigh*)
The first one is nicknamed “Autumn” because after 5+ years, I still don’t have a good name for it yet. Actually I haven’t really figured out the best names for anything because the conlang is incredibly unfinished. Heh. It’s a romantic comedy/fantasy.
Featuring:
Tija: a stressed out and anxious academic who’s the daughter of some high-ranking people in her nation’s government which makes her important by proxy; can’t get enough of tea. Isha: Tija’s highly curious nephew who gets placed under her care for his apprenticeship and often gets into trouble due to being too inquisitive. Tel: a placid and thoughtful person who is also a professional dancer from an island nation who is leaving along with their cousin Arona before the borders close again and ends up running into Tija & co. Arona: easily frustrated and moody and misses her friends and being able to use her home country’s sign language wherever she goes but at the same time loves to try new things and also has a form of illusion magic.
The other one is a medical drama fantasy, again without a name, and features:
Suvi: big medical nerd, loves books and learning, also really loves her friends, but terrified of messing up and harming a patient Hana: Suvi’s best friend, talks too much and loves long conversations, has a hard time concentrating but means well and always wants to help. Kaisa: their mentor/teacher, a notorious hard-ass because she wants her students to learn things properly, and yeah that’s about it because I need to develop her further
8. If someone were to make a cartoon out of you, what would your standard outfit be?
Dark skinny jeans or boot-cut jeans, a soft t-shirt underneath my pale green hoodie, black Vans, messy curls, glasses
9. Create a character description for yourself.
An anxious, smol brunette who runs on coffee, tea, and nerves and has a bad habit of talking and walking fast and can’t sit in chairs properly. Lives in her comfy hoodies almost permanently and is too lazy to put on makeup most days “a la fuck it who cares” kinda mentality. Except when she goes all out to dress up and I mean all out. Most likely to be found in front of her laptop, on her phone, bustling around in the kitchen, or rushing to get somewhere at breakneck speed.
10. Do you like incorporating people you actually know into your writing?
I might put in certain traits into my characters every now and again, but not usually, no. And generally not intentionally, either. I just notice the resemblance after the fact.
11. Are you kill-happy with characters?
Considering the sorts of stories I write, not exactly. Most of them don’t exactly give me any reason to kill off characters because they’re dramatic, but not that sort of dramatic. Hmm, though Suvi and Hana’s story does feature a deadly disease that does kill a lot of people before their medical team swoops in to start tackling it.
12. Dream job?
Editing other people’s novels and writing my own on the side. Even when it was just the early days of my time on the internet, I really liked reading other people’s stories, learning from them, leaving comments, and also critique whenever they asked for it from me. I get really happy when I see people make progress in their writing.
13. Coffee or tea while writing?
Both. Both is good. Coffee with milk or tea with milk is good. So is a really nice herbal tea, like roobios.
14. Slow or fast writer?
Fast spurts with really long intervals of not writing in between. Some weeks it’s 0, some weeks it’s 1000s of words, idk. I can force myself to do an almost daily writing habit, which makes me have some consistency, but I tend to lose the habit really fast, especially during the semester.
15. Where/who/what do you find inspiration from?
Artwork, images that spring into my head, random bits of dialogue, music (especially for the Autumn fic!), other forms of media, dancing (for Tel in particular), comedians, other writers who inspire me to keep writing
16. If you were put into a fantasy world, what would you be?
Probably a merchant girl who is devoted to her work but also secretly does something creative on the side and helps out the badass heroes when they stop in my city for a bit.
17. Fave book cliche? Least fave book cliche?
Favorite cliche (or at least, one of my favorites): That moment when a character realizes that they’re in love/falling in love with another character and internally slaps their forehead as if to say “I can’t believe I didn’t realize it before!”
Least favorite cliche: When a female character is reduced to being characterized by whomever she’s dating. Ugh.
18. Fave places to write?
When I have the sudden urge to write something down, anywhere that I have access to my phone or laptop or a notepad and pen (but I’ll even settle for a Post-It in a pinch)
19. Fave scenes to write?
The little moments that reveal something about a character that readers probably didn’t know before. Something that plays with their expectations or makes them wonder what else they don’t know about the character.
20. Most productive time of day for writing?
Whenever I get off my lazy butt and start writing. Generally this is in the afternoon or evening since it takes a while for my brain to wake up in the mornings, especially for creative work.
21. Reason for writing:
There are stories and characters I want to read about, but since no one else has written them into existence, I guess I gotta do it. Plus, my characters can be very, very noisy in my head sometimes while they’re bugging me to write about them and feeding my imagination bits of their dialogue and images and dramatic scenes. They want to exist somewhere outside of my head, and so I let my writing help them do that.

I have a sUPER important question for you! What are ur top 10 favest superhero movies at this moment in ur life?
ARGH ALWAYS ASKING THE TOUGH QUESTIONS LMAO
assume this means live action & marvel/dc (omitting #1 superhero film sky high) so in no particular order, top 10 that i love, sometimes nonsensically:
superman (1978): i mean. it’s just SO good. i. love. clark. kent.
superman ii (1980): LOIS AND CLARK POSING AS A MARRIED COUPLE!!!!! that already should make it #1 on everyone’s list, frankly
x-men: days of future past: aka waterworks the film?? SO MUCH EMOTIONAL CAPITAL CASHED IN, and time travel too? I LOVE TIME TRAVEL STORYLINES. BESTILL MY BEATING HEART.
the dark knight: the bruce is so subpar and also too much manpain, but everything else is just too well done and it’s always a great rewatch. the nolan soundtracks are so bomb. LEDGER JOKER. HARVEY. HARVEY!!!!!!!!
x-men 2: it’s so fkin good, oh my god. somehow putting logan, bobby, rogue, and pyro together worked so well. perfect use of a perfect mystique, alan cummings nightcrawler, & lady deathstrike!!! it’s such a good movie
amazing spider-man 1 & 2: lumped together as one because i still need to give them a rewatch and definitively decide. but they need to be on here because andrew garfield is still, live action wise, the best spidey, best peter, most true to form. he is still the BEST don’t @ me
captain america: the winter soldier: more emotional capital cashed in! tbh, it’s crazy overhyped on this site, definitely not as intellectual as people make it out to be LMAO, but it has a ton of heart and lots of sad binky bons, so i do still love it
batman returns: PFEIFFER CATWOMAN AAAAAAA. FAAAAAVE. such good batcat and also christopher walken and burton’s weirdo aesthetic.
batman v superman: i mean... who is surprised by this. no one. affleck bruce and eisenberg lex are imo the best takes on those two characters put to film w/ pretty much no competition. too many heavy handed jesus metaphors and too much mercy graves dying but it is what it is and i still love it lmao
man of steel: i love clark kent so jot that down
honorable mentions: logan, iron man 1, GOTG 2, raimi’s spider-man 2
