honestly the most life changing living advice i have ever gotten from this website is to have a manual toothbrush, an automatic toothbrush, floss, and mouthwash on your bathroom counter and you should try to use at least one at least once a day. i floss more than i brush now

i don’t know which autistic/adhd/any kind of neurodivergent person needs to hear this but: make a “just in case” bag
this is a pic of mine. it contains:
loop earplugs on the zipper
prescription glasses with a clip on sunglasses attachment
my public transport discount card
a pen
a glasses cloth + wet glasses wipes (which can also be used to clean my hands if needed!
wireless earbuds in case my headphones give out
tips for my apple pencil + silicon covers if i need a different texture/the sound is too loud
a sanitary pad (not for me, as i had a hysterectomy, but i like carrying one around for my menstruating friends)
a pouch with hair ties for when my hair bothers me
autism lanyard (not pictured, as i put it in after i took it)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
will i use these every day? not necessarily. but it’s good to have these all in one place in a little pouch so it’s easy to throw into my bag as i use different ones for different occasions. that way i don’t have to think about all these things individually.
it might seem like common sense for some people, but i didn’t think of this until recently. so i wanted to share this in case it could be handy for other people. some more ideas for what to put in your bag under the break. you can make this as big or as small as you like so some ideas may seem a bit big
powerbank + cables (preferably a powerbank that has a LOT of charge)
snacks (do keep an eye on the expiration date)
painkillers/emergency meds (same thing about the expiration date)
sewing kit
deodorant/perfume
mini fan
hand warmers
scissors/nail clippers (for when tags/threads/your nails are bothering you)
tweezers
lucky charm (i have my lucky cat keychain. it just calms me to have)
plushie/stress ball/fidget toy
mints/a mini toothbrush and toothpaste
extra pair of underwear (for if you suddenly need to stay somewhere overnight or if an accident happens)
comb
band-aids + disinfectant
hand cream/soothing cream
soap/soap leaves
similarly, some mini shampoo or mini body wash (again for if you suddenly need to stay the night. there’s probably already some wherever you’re staying but again. this is a just in case bag)
q-tips
chapstick
makeup remover wipes
razors
hand sanitizer/general sanitizer
wet wipes/tissues
foldable bag
ruler/tape measure
this is a lot but keep in mind, these are just ideas. you don’t have to use everything, just pick out which things you think would be handy for you and make your bag accordingly. do feel free to add onto the list if you have any other ideas.

my old roommates were actually so hellish tbh i literally told them i suffered from psychotic symptoms because none of my appeals to them asking them nicely and to just ask me and clean up after if they needed to borrow my kitchen equipment or use my toiletries or food because they'd run out and it was too late to go to the store (or ask me to run to the store for them and get it!) worked. and they were like "oh man that sounds really scary :( sorry i had no idea" and then they STILL kept using my kitchen equipment without asking and leaving it dirty in the sink and stealing my food and soap and toothpaste until i was forced to start keeping a journal where i wrote down everything i did and at what time i did it like i was some kind of secret agent spying on my own life to confirm to myself that i wasn't just making shit up in my head and fucking defend myself, because before i started doing that one of them left her antidepressant meds out where MY cat could have gotten them and poisoned himself then blamed ME for it even though i didn't take the same prescription as her and wasn't even on antidepressants at the time, and when i said as much claimed that there was no way to trust i was telling the truth because i was psychotic. and everyone agreed with her because they were all guilty of using my stuff and refused to admit it, and left me to deal with the guilt and fear of being an animal abuser because i was too mentally ill to care for him! absolutely fucking insane. i should have moved out sooner.

Do you think the Yandere obey me cast, specifically Leviathan, would take away your glasses you needed to see with just so you'd rely on him more/not look at anyone else?
At first I was just having a laugh but now I'm wondering how that would go.
This isn't a request I just thought it was funny and wanted to share
HAHAHAHAHA omg this is so funny T T thank you for sending this I'm dying
"This isn't a request I thought it was funny"
Tumblr media
(AMAB!Yandere x GN!reader)(This one is fluffy teehee)
As a little treat to himself, Yandere!Lucifer might do this to tease you a little, and make you beg or ask nicely for them. He'd really like the feeling of you being reliant on him, and he does enjoy a bit of light hearted teasing so it would be a warm fuzzy moment for him. Following that though he would test your eyesight and punish you if you weren't wearing the right prescription.
Yandere!Mammon will steal your glasses and then insist on helping you with everything, even things that aren't related to your sight, such as showering. He'll stand close enough to you that you can count his eyelashes when you are talking and turn your face towards him by the chin when he notices you squinting at things. Sooner or later you will find your glasses in his stuff, and he'll say he doesn't know how they got there.
Yandere!Leviathan would snatch your glasses off of your face in a fit of jealousy and stomp on them, asking furiously why you always want to look at everyone but him. Fine - better if he doesn't leave you the option at all. He'll trap you in another video game with him, where everything is unfamiliar and you can barely make out your surroundings so you have to cling to him to survive. Of course he's going to be very into roleplaying the character, so you'll have to call him whatever he says and convince him with affection to stop being salty enough to help you.
A lover of a good prank, Yandere!Satan would take your glasses while you're sleeping and replace your things with similar looking things or just rig them, then watch you through the many, many cameras he's got all over. It's like one of his cat videos! He put slimy bugs in your house slippers, unscrewed your door from the hinges so when you try to leave your room it falls over onto you, replaced your toothpaste with a tube of frosting, set up your shower to hit you with a mildly corrosive acid that painfully burns your skin. Haha! What good fun! When you finally call out to him and ask him for help he'll return your glasses and help take care of any of the pain he caused you.
Yandere!Asmo seems like one of those people who would take your glasses and put them on and then be like "WOW YOU REALLY CAN'T SEE!" He'll probably wave them above his head and tell you to come and get them from him so that you have to willingly get close to him, at which point he'll probably toss your glasses to the side because his attention is on you instead.
Yandere!Beelzebub definitely sat on your glasses by accident and broke them, and he feels really bad about it, but every time he lets you go outside you try to run away so how is he supposed to get you new ones? :( He'll help you out as much as possible with trying to see things, and you'll have many moments with him where you say "what does that say" "prime tapur special" "no that" "new charred poison belly newt spicy flavor" "no, that!" ".....2 for 1 blood strawberry tart" "never mind...". Eventually if you promise to behave and have earned his trust enough, he'll take you to replace them.
Yandere!Belphegor will take your glasses and leave little clues for you to follow to get to them. Seeing you walk around and around though, at least one of the brothers is going to offer to help you find them, and when Belphegor finds out he's gonna be hella annoyed about it. He'll probably go into your room at night, lock the door, and lie on top of you, refusing to get up. When you finally do manage to escape so you can go to school, he'll knock your glasses off your nightstand so they fall behind your bed, and then tell you to go ask the brother who helped you what happened to them, hmPH!
Thank you homie for sending this goofy ask what a nice change of pace <3

The words wash over Hawk and fills his lungs like putrid water. In a moment everything seems clearer than it has in years, plants greener than ever before and Tim still looks so calm.
His older features seem more relaxed, more grey in his hair than Hawk’s own. It is obvious the disease is aging Tim faster than normal and the army may have made a man out of his Skippy, but the years after Fire Island made him Tim.
It occurs to Hawk then that Tim has been living with this knowledge for some time, was not even going to tell Hawk the truth. This was Tim collected, this was Tim accepting. This was Tim on borrowed time, and Hawk imagines his Skippy holding a live grenade to spare him from any hurt.
“Can I use your bathroom?” Hawk asks in a tight voice after a moment of silence.
Tim says yes, and Hawk is on his way as though running from the truth. Skippy is dying.
The bathroom is a garish yellow and Hawk cannot stand the remnants of this person he does not know; he is used to picking up Tim’s small trinkets and being treated to the origin story with boyish glee. This Tim, however, is unknowable to Hawk. He wonders when Tim started using cinnamon toothpaste over spearmint.
Hawk looks into the mirror and splashes water on his face to bring him back to reality. There is no time to know this Tim, not like he once had. Gone were the days of lounging in bed and trading stories. There was no more time because Skippy was dying.
The world turns and Hawk sits on the toilet.
The last time the world had spun so violently, Hawk had been asked to identify his son’s body at the morgue.
Yes, that’s… Hawk had said before clearing his throat. That’s my son, that’s my boy.
Jackson had been so still and looked freezing and it took everything in Hawk to not climb next to his son and cradle his frigid body. There was in fact nothing left for Hawk to do for Jackson, his duties as his father were absolved. Father of one, officially. Losing his child had damn near killed him.
And Hawk had tried to die, hoping maybe falling into drugs would somehow make him closer to Jackson. This is how he felt when he felt free, Hawk thought as the powder burned his nose; it was the closest they ever got to father-son bonding.
Hawk would have died if it had not been for Tim. No two ways about it.
Now Tim is dying and Hawk cannot return the favor.
He lost one of his boys and another was on the way out next. Jackson and Tim, was there truly no sanctuary for the kind? Were they doomed the minute they opened their hearts to the bitter world?
Hawk cannot imagine losing Skippy, not again, not like this. Soon the world would be without Tim and Hawk could not bear to live through this death again.
Don’t you need me, Skippy? Hawk had asked long ago with cheeks sticky with tears.
I have you, Tim said with all the certainty in the world.
Hawk crumples forward with his face in his hands, tears stubbornly at bay. He never had Tim at all and it was no one’s fault but his own.
He looks up from his hands to the shelf of medication and notices the prescription has a refill available for pick up.
Skippy is dying, Hawk thinks. But he’s not dead yet.

Depression life hack:
Do you have trouble getting out of bed to brush your teeth? Or have trouble brushing your teeth in general? I feel you, brushing your teeth has a lot of steps. What if you could boil it down to one?
Consider: dry brush your teeth. This helps get the big particles out so they don't build up and create plaque and irritate your gums / cause cavities. This is honestly the most important part of dental hygiene, toothpaste be damned.
Take that a step further -or, backwards? Why should you have to go all the way to the bathroom if you're not gonna rinse? Just keep your tooth brush by your bed. Now you don't have to get up, it's right there and you don't have to deal with toothpaste or water on your face. If you can swish with water or something after to make sure all the loose stuff is out, that's good too. (I literally just swallow it)
Upping the game a bit: when brushing with toothpaste just spit it out. Don't bother with rinsing. I have special prescription fluoride toothpaste I'm not supposed to rinse out, and since I removed that step it's been SO much easier to brush my teeth. It takes a little getting used to but you won't notice it after a while. And ofc you can bring that to your bed too. Maybe keep a lil cup or trashcan to spit into.
Other options: alcohol free mouthwash (the fluoride stuff). If brushing is too much work, just swish some mouthwash. But also if brushing is too much work I'd recommend an electric. It's worth it, teeth are much more expensive.
Get a smaller toothbrush. Try a kid's toothbrush, they're smaller and softer bristled so it's easier on your gums and easier to brush your back teeth. This can help with texture issues.
Get some floss picks. If you think you can manage a normal roll, go for it. If not I highly recommend the picks. Takes all the stress and dexterity out of trying to keep the floss tensioned. (I'd suggest picks with a slightly wavy handle, the straight ones are a little harder to maneuver).
Final, easiest option: try to swish some water around after eating anything. It'll help remove loose food and neutralize sugars/acids. My dentist told me to do this (in addition to everything else) so it's a good fall back.
In summary: brushing your teeth is honestly really difficult if you're depressed or chronically ill and or disabled. There's no shame in that. So fuck the rules: brush in bed, rinse in the kitchen, floss at the dinner table.
Hopefully you can try just one of these suggestions to make things easier for you. You don't have to do all of them. In fact, that'd be completely counter to the point.
TL;DR
Dry brush, no water or toothpaste
Dry brush in bed
Don't rinse after using toothpaste, just spit it out
Same thing but in bed (maybe get a cup)
Use alcohol free fluoride mouthwash (or whatever you can get)
Can also be done in bed (again, get a cup)
Get a smaller, softer toothbrush (kids brush)
And/ or an electric toothbrush (try a kid's brush)
Get floss picks (keep by your bed)
If you can't do any of these, just rinse with water after eating.
Remember, anything is better than nothing!
This is all fairly cheap too! Prices under the cut.
You can get 4-6 kids toothbrushes for like, 5$. They come in more colors too so it's more fun :)
You can get kid's (and some adult) electric toothbrushes for 10-20$. Try and make sure you get one that comes with the replacement heads in the package.
Alcohol free fluoride mouthwash is about 8-12$
You can get packs of 75-150 floss picks for like, 5$
I'd recommend sensodyne complete protection as a toothpaste bc it covers all the bases and isn't too harsh. It can be 8-15$ depending on where you go.
You should also try to change your toothbrush every 3-4 months, especially if it's worn down.

This is going to be a weird question but what toothpaste do you use? I have autism, ADHD AND am a type 2 diabetic. My teeth are (quite literally) falling apart and I heard Sensodyne is supposed to be good but I'm not noticing a difference. Plus when it comes out of the corners of my mouth it's making those spots crusty, itchy and just plain irritated. I don't have a lot of money so I can't afford "the good stuff". Can you help?
Sensodyne Pronamel is what I use, specifically! Regular Sensodyne does nothing for me but Pronamel has really helped me when I use it consistently as far as strengthening my teeth goes. I don't have as much hot/cold sensitivity when I use it as well.
Also, if strong/burning stuff irritates you please look into getting an alcohol free mouthwash as well. I personally need to some kind of strengthening mouthwash to keep my teeth in shape.
There's also Prevident 5000 (toothpaste) which I've used on and off but I believe that one might be prescription only. If you're having as bad of a problem as you're describing I would definitely look into asking a dentist for a recommendation to suit your specific needs... that genuinely sounds awful. :(

Since I don't see exhaustive examples of what types of support low support needs might entail, I've put mine below. The vast majority of my struggles are from my autism, but my physical disabilities and ADHD also contribute.
The reason I share this is to help people think more deeply about what "supports" means, and understand the different support levels.
Examples of tasks I need significant help with:
Handling any maintenance or repair tasks. I can and have done things like called a plumber, but I cry afterwards and am shaky and on edge the entire time they are on the phone or in my room/house. I have the capacity to do this a few times a year, spread far apart, which is typically much lower than the number of times I need this done. This includes car maintenance, which my partner helps me with.
Doing my taxes. I literally cry while downloading my W2 for my partner to do our taxes, and have had a panic attack because I needed to find an email receipt for tax purposes.
Paying a bill. Best case scenario it's something I can pay online, but I still cannot do more than one at a time and greatly benefit from emotional and logistical support.
Any other financial stuff: transferring money between accounts, managing investments, etc. I log into my accounts and my partner does things for me. I recently gave them access to most accounts now so they can do this without the first step and this one is scary to me but has been so so beneficial. We've been together about 15 years and they always ask permission and tell me specifics. Be careful who you trust with this if you have any choice.
House cleaning. I can do more than my severely physically disabled mother could when I was growing up, but not much. My partner also struggles here but we help each other.
Making decisions. I can decide what to eat and things related to my special interests (e.g. what book to read) for myself, but I really struggle deciding what color of sheets to get, alternatives to grocery brands when one is out of stock, how to cut my hair, which route to take while driving, which parking space to use, etc. and truly cannot do anything bigger (color to paint the kitchen, replacement water heater brand). I will completely shut down.
Examples of things I can do mostly independently (after having put in lasting supports with help from my partner and/or with significant effort). This is what makes me low support needs rather than medium: I can do these things.
Buy groceries (I order online and pickup curbside)
Make food for myself (I cannot reliably prepare food for anyone else)
Shower (I have a blue tooth speaker that I have a hard time showering without, and am able to shower 1-3 times a week)
Driving (sometimes I cannot drive due to physical issues)
Make and attend doctor's appointments (this one is mostly practice and saving up energy for it. I haven't been able to get support for this)
Take my medications (I have set up various systems that work well for me)
Renewing my prescriptions and picking them up (this is super hard and draining and I wish I had more supports for it, but it's something my partner struggles with too)
Working. I have so many accomodations here it's a separate long post. This includes work-related communication (often quite complex)
Ambulating. Sometimes I cannot walk more than a few steps. This is not from my autism.
Changing clothes. I hate doing this and would do it way less often than is appropriate if I did not have a partner that would be bothered by that
Brush my teeth. Oohhh boy this one took me most of my 33 years to sort out, and needed help from one of my best friends. Children's unsweetened toothpaste and ultra soft brushes are essential.
Flossing my teeth. Specific brand and type of floss, one in every room, and I'm actually good at it then. Really really proud of this one.
Brushing my hair. It's a whole Thing for me and I don't do it as often as I should but I can do it.
Making plans with friends or family. This is really hard and my mother helped me with it until she died and now I have some friends who are able to support me in this and I so appreciate them. My partner handles family plans mostly because most of my family is dead or lives very far away.
Speaking on the phone or in writing outside of work contexts. This is very very hard for me. I can do in person okay.
Socializing. This is very very hard for me but I do like it sometimes and have worked hard my whole life to be good at it. I tend to get along with people in a shallow manner.
Going into a crowded space. I need hearing protection (earplugs or headphones), and cannot do it for long periods. I handle it much better when I have a person with me, but hit my limit quickly.
Things I can do most days with no supports (most bADLs):
Basic in-person verbal communication, including limited quantities of small talk
Small purchases (cup of coffee, new book, etc.)
Toileting and continence
Going to bed and waking up
Remembering to eat and the act of eating
Drinking water
Get some gentle exercise of some sort, even just stretching in bed
Participate in one of my special interests. Any limitations here are usually from my physical disabilities, though I've lost this ability during autistic burnout before.
I am also fortunate to be capable of dealing well with emergencies (car accidents, injuries, de-escalation of a dangerous situation, pet emergencies, flooding), though like most people I break down if there are too many in a row. This isn't on any of the IADL lists I've seen, but I personally think it should be.

i just got a prescription toothpaste and an order from the dentist to use an electric toothbrush because i have ‘bad oral hygiene’ because of adhd. which causes me to forget to brush my teeth twice a day. but the electric toothbrush is sensory HELL. i cannot take it. but i have to suffer through it.
adhd is not fun.

I finished my npl and placement yesterday so here’s free vet advice that everyone asks for
Insure your pets, in dogs and cats it is 100% worth it. And try to get to cover for the highest amount that you can afford. I can go into more detail about pet insurance if you want
Most flea treatment that contains ‘fipronil’ will not work, fleas have become immune to it. Often times only prescription flea medications will work or a seresto collar
If your dog is going in for a planned surgery, bath them the day before, make sure they go to the toilet the morning of and if your feeling like really making your vet nurses happy, cut their beard as short as possible.
Don’t breed your pet if you cannot afford a caesarean, ask for an estimate for one at your local and out of ours vets
If your male cat is constantly trying to pee but can’t, that is an emergency you need to take him to the vet straight away
If your rabbit or guinea pig stops eating or pooping that is an emergency you need to take them to the vet
If you have a deep chested dog and their stomach is swollen, they cannot lie down / rest, they’re salivating a lot and unsuccessfully trying to vomit, this could be an emergency you need to take them to the vet straight away
Euthanasia can be a kindness to some animals, I promis your pet isn’t angry at you for getting them put to sleep, they’re out of pain (mental or physical) now and you did the right thing
If your debating whether or not your pet needs to see a vet, just ring up and ask your vets
Your pet being overweight can be as dangerous for their health as them being underweight, check body condition scores and ask your vet nurse for weight advice if your not sure
H fronted dog harnesses such as Julius k9 harnesses can damage your dogs shoulders, especially if they pull a lot. Y fronted ones are safer.
Don’t get a new pet if you cannot afford routine vet bills, if you don’t have at least £100 you can spare for your pet to see the vet, you cannot afford that pet.
Vaccinate your pets, every year.
Try to have some sort of good dental health routine for your pet, dental sticks now and then don’t work. Enzymic toothpaste, plaque off, aqua dent, hills T/D do work.
Learn what pain looks like in your pet, search Glasgow pain score or ‘species’ grimace scale for more info. Remember, if you would be in pain in your pets condition, they are in pain and need prescribed pain relief.
Don’t give pets human over the counter medication unless you have specific instructions from your vet to do so. So many human medications can be toxic to pets.

okay actually the Tooth Mousse was worth the money holy fucking shit. our teeth aren't sensitive? like I can eat sugar and have it touch our teeth and it doesn't hurt? even with the prescription toothpaste we still had some sensitivity but like I just realised our teeth aren't hurting while we're eating and holy shit this is the first time since I joined the system that I've been able to eat without having to worry about our teeth being painfully sensitive
