One detail I've noticed is that Wukong's outfit is different before and after Tripitaka places the circlet on him (and Wukong was notably unwilling to be chained):

Which is distinctly different than every other iteration of this scene we've been shown:

Other retellings of this moment have Wukong kneeling in servitude...when the reality is he was kneeling after being subdued—continuing lmk's tradition of biased/false narratives (like what was done with the multiple explanations of the samadhi fire). I think it's interesting to see the ways in which Wukong's past was made easier to swallow as time went on (or if you were Azure and didn't want to believe that Wukong had been changed by his journey lol)

im cheating a bit cause i fully plan to write this as a prompt fill (someone sent me the prompt 'waking up with amnesia') BUT anyway

au where the separatists/sith kidnap anakin during the clone wars and they remove all of his memories to make him easier to brainwash

and he Falls very easily with no ties to the Light side (obi-wan, padme, ahsoka, his mother)

but the jedi steal him back after a few months of darth vader exacting devastation on the battlefield. jedi healers do know how to access the shut-out memories and bring anakin skywalker back -- but it has to be a slow process or else his mind may crumble under the force of those memories returning

so obi-wan has to watch as his padawan is returned to him piece by piece....it's devastating when anakin remembers him as master before he remembers him as jedi master.

it's even more devastating when obi-wan, in a moment of weakness unbefitting a jedi master war general, begs vokara che to be allowed to look through some of anakin's memories--carefully stored (yes, yeah whatever a la inside out, fine) and awaiting immersion in anakin's consciousness--and discovers that some of the atrocities they know vader committed happened before he fell. when he was still anakin. when he was still obi-wan's padawan.

and worse.

how do you look at someone who half-believes you to be a slave master, all the while being the sole person who knows: the strength of your bond to each other. the blood on their hands.

the deep and dark and all-abiding love they have been harboring for you that they never wanted you to know about.

Conniving, quiet yanderes are a rare breed. This is a gentle story about a pair of liars. Both of them are shy and bad at expressing themselves. After a terrible accident both of them take drastic measures. Our heroine wants to run away, but her fiance foils her plan at every turn.

Viola is a beautiful, rich and sweet girl with one problem. Her fiance. He is cold, quiet, and busy. He is also too popular. She wants a man who will be affectionate with her.

She thinks being with him will ruin her life. She cannot handle all of the envy, or the responsibilities that come with being a Duchess.

Philip is the ideal husband on the outside, but Viole experiences alot of bullying. She doesn't go to balls anymore, because every other lady is that envious.

She wants a social life. She's not very competitive either.

Philip just isn't a good fit for her.

After an accident she decides to play dumb. Philip needs a bride that can do Duchess work. If she pretends to forget everything he learned surely he will annul their engagement.

Right?????

She pretends to be flirty and desperate to stay by his side...to disgust him. Philip is altogether mean to his female fans. Which is another reason why Viola is wary of him.

Philip is distressed when he realizes his fiance is basically dead. Viola tricked the doctor. Everybody thinks she will never remember the past.

Philip drops a bomb. He claims she has always been madly in love with him, and he says she can continue to act the same way.

This is a total lie, and it's really messed up for him to take advantage of a woman with no memories.

He goes hard. He literally says he wants her to be clingy and possessive. He wants her to rely on him. He wants her to scorn other men....he thinks she doesn't need friends too. She just needs to be his bride.

Red. Flag.

He also says he would die for her, and he cannot wait to have an affectionate marriage with her. Philip was always too nervous to act on his true feelings. Thanks to the fake amnesia he can have the fantasy life he has always wanted with his first love.

Viole said she hated him when they were children, and he still didn't break the engagement. She was always unhappy trapped under the Duchess title.

Now she doesn't remember that, and he wants a sweet liar life with her.

The problem is Viola is playing dumb, so Philips overflowing affection is a little scary.

this is really not in the spirit of that second inverse trope, but for mb this was the only thing i could think of, and it was very funny.

"Gurathin," said Gurathin. "SecUnit, you know it's me."

"I don't think I know that," it said, pleasantly, in an okay but not excellent imitation of its creepy canned dialogue options. "Please present some identification, and we'll see."

Gurathin didn't bother sending his data over the feed again. Murderbot walked away, but left a drone eyeballing him. He resisted the urge to flip the drone off. "Come on," he told it, knowing SecUnit was paying attention. "Let me in."

He watched the SecUnit bend forward slightly to show two of Mensah's kids that it was paying attention to whatever they were saying, and then bend over further to help the toddler up onto a chair. It was just fucking with him now. On the other hand, if the prickly bastard started letting children hug it just to piss off Gurathin, who was the real loser?

It finished spoiling the children and moved over to smoothly de-escalate a brewing disagreement over the punch bowl. Gurathin tried to catch Pin-Lee's eye; she did not cooperate. Gurathin tried to walk through the open door; the hovering security drone took a potshot at him.

SecUnit got roped into conversation with Bharadwaj and her media colleagues. It said something that made everyone laugh. It wasn't scowling. It was faking looking people in the face pretty well; that was just creepy.

It went on like that; Gurathin had never seen it go this long interacting without pissing someone off. Presumably it was venting all of that impulse on him. Ratthi introduced it to his favorite cousin; zi was visibly charmed.

Gurathin goaded the drone into firing two more warning shots before the SecUnit circulated back over to him.

"SecUnit. Come on. You have known me for actual years. I helped you rob a place once."

"I don't recall."

"We met on that planetary survey mission, don't tell me you don't remember that one, it's the reason you're even here." That came out maybe a little harsh, but everyone was letting the SecUnit abuse the power of being entrusted with party security to bully him, he was allowed to be annoyed.

"Oh, were you there? That data must have been lost in a corrupted filetree," it said, with incredibly cutting blandness.

Gurathin groaned. "Okay! Okay. I'm sorry."

It technically counted as a reward when SecUnit stopped giving him the customer service face and switched to the hairy eyeball, which just showed how stupid this whole situation was. It was clearly not satisfied with just that.

"I'm sorry for using your personal name without permission. I wasn't trying to weaponize it or anything, it just slipped out, but I know that's not an excuse and it was a really inappropriate disrespect for your boundaries."

SecUnit kept looking at him. Gurathin knew two other SecUnits now, neither of whom was as supremely weird as this one; that was why he'd started mentally tagging it with its personal name, just to keep things tidy. Of course, if anyone else had done that and made the resulting mistake, SecUnit probably wouldn't have been half so mad.

Gurathin sagged.

"I'm sorry for going through your personal files and using your name against you back during the survey," he mumbled, wishing he kept drones around to control with his brain so he could watch SecUnit's extremely expressive face without having to look at it. "That was really shitty. Rim paranoia isn't a good enough excuse for refusing to see you as anything but a tool of the Company. Okay?"

SecUnit was looking as pained as though Gurathin had stripped naked in its presence. "Yes, fine, you can come to the party just stop having feelings," it said, in its normal voice.

"Great!" said Gurathin. "The spinach puffs had better not be all gone."

"I don't pay any attention to the things humans consume," it said, moving out of his way and taking its drone with it.

"I know," Gurathin acknowledged, rolling his eyes and trooping after it. Ratthi waved enthusiastically at him and Pin-Lee raised her cup in a welcoming toast. Apparently SecUnit's relenting returned him to the ranks of people who existed again. "Believe me, I remember this about you."

I read it in a day and I loved it do you have more recommendations ?

Here's some Amnesia Superbat:

running backwards (the only way forward) by soetry (8k) Bruce gets hit in battle, forgets everything about being Batman, and adopts the entire personality and characteristics of his idiotic playboy persona. To get his memories back, someone has to get rather intimate with him. And really, Clark is the only one for the task.

I Would I Might Forget That I Am I by susiecarter (24k) Clark Kent woke up, ate breakfast, went to work—the same way he did every day. Ordinary. Except for the part where Superman hadn't been seen in at least a week and nobody knew why, Lois was acting kind of weird, and Bruce Wayne was insisting that Clark was the only reporter he'd allow to run a feature on the crashed alien ship in the park, since Wayne Enterprises had been granted control of the site. And the way Clark felt every time Wayne looked at him a little too long definitely wasn't helping. But it was fine. Clark was normal, there was nothing wrong with him, and everything was fine.

A Week Of Rain by Mithen (18k) Clark Kent seeks out Bruce Wayne when he is resurrected, but he has no memory of his time as Superman and no powers. Bruce has to deal with an unexpected visitor to his lake house--and his own grief, guilt, and attraction.

And then I thought I'd throw in some Fake Dating fics too because they fit in with the vibe. I'll probably also make an extended list of these later.

A Common Misconception by rotasha (91k) When Bruce Wayne comes out, he accidentally becomes the poster child of bisexuality and realizes his lifestyle of sleeping around needs to come to an end. Clark, being the supportive friend that he is, volunteers to pretend to date him for a year. You know the rest.

over this threshold by orphean (59k) Bruce asks Clark to marry him for tax reasons. Clark, against his better judgment, agrees.

Inevitably, the scene that she’d been dreading to see begins to construct itself around her. Low-hanging clouds whose sunset-pink undersides seem almost close enough to touch. Cool evening wind in her hair. The gentle rocking of an airship deck beneath her feet.

“I’ve still got that crystal.”

Leaning on the forward rail, she turns her head to the source of the voice beside her, and Imogen is momentarily startled to see herself. Even more disorienting is the fondness with which she looks upon her own face, as though each freckle and dimple and the little gap between her teeth is inexpressibly precious to her, and the spirit behind it, fierce and lovely and bright as a lightning strike, even more so. The face of someone she loves so much she almost wishes she didn’t, because the inevitable pain of losing her will be so much worse for it.

. . .

The scene goes out of focus for a moment, muffled and blurred as though she’s looking at it from underwater. When she returns she is holding out her hand to Imogen, who is regarding her with some reluctance.

“Don’t do anything with it Laudna,” she warns, tipping out the shard of purple crystal into her palm, and the distrust in her eyes stings a bit. Can’t she see how carefully she’s holding it? She knows how much comfort the odd little bauble brings to Imogen, even if she’s wary of it herself.

“I would never do anything without your permission first,” she promises, bringing the shard close to her face to examine. It’s strangely warm, as though Imogen had been carrying it in her hand.

. . .

“— take care of this.”

Her senses flicker again, as though she’s wavered in and out of consciousness for a moment. No. No no no. This isn’t what she meant to do at all.

I love Diao and the fact that he's being straightforward with how he views everything finally. Now if only he'd managed that before this all went down... maybe something could have changed first. But, I mean, Yi is definitely not any better.

Says the dude with amnesia who thinks Diao is seven years old. Though I suppose the idea that Yi has not matured or changed since that point in time might be accurate.

That face. How long has it been since Yi said he loved him? How long has it been since Diao believed he meant it? And how can it feel to realize someone might have only ever loved you because their father told them to, a duty and an instruction?

I bet he did.

This was an uneeded lie, my dude. But I also understand it because it's not exactly a lie. It's only kind of a lie, I suppose, depending on your point of view.

And then the whole conversation about Yi regretting if he ever disappointed him or let him down and the way Diao was just barely holding himself together because he was finally leaving this relationship, finally finding his own peace, and now he's back and he really, truly, can't go anywhere.

To face the idea of being forgotten by the person you love even after they've betrayed you but while you still love them and were hoping to find a way back to the love they had.

(On top of this he's finding out about his own childhood at the same time and learning facts about both of that he never knew.)
