shrek is genuinely such a good movie

#just??? the animation??? the character designs??? the writing???#and GOD the way they use fairytale characters and twist them around in an APPROPRIATELY gritty way!#i mean dreamworks has ALWAYS done it well but i especially loved it with goldie#id totally rewatch it again but i think i may wait for the dvd lol#the site i used kept stopping and id have to refresh then find where i left off#but it was worth it in the end#my only critique would have to be how kitty's wish/story didnt really do much? i think her conclusion#and her version of the map says A LOT about her but it shouldve been a little more vocalized i think#she was still written fantastically tho#and the ending? god i would mind another shrek movie to see the old gang back together#especially in this new animation and art style i think theyd do a fantastic job maintaining shrek'#ogre behavior that was meant for that gritty realistic style with this more poppy smooth style#anyway i loved this move#talkies

I’m so motivated to write the rest of my season one stories now OMG
I only have two left, and I’m pretty far into one of them already. the finale story will take longer to write, but I have the majority of that one already planned out, so it’s just a matter of writing it down. I could feasibly get everything done before season two starts, which is what I wanted

Idiots in Love - Han Jisung
Han Jisung X FemReader
summary: the title says it all.
No warning? Not proof read.
"You're so cute."
"huh?"
"I said you look like a fruit."
"What in the world Han Jisung." yn laughed slapping his arms as she sat beside him on the sofa.
Saturdays were meant for the boys. That's what Han firmly believes in. But when his crush/ girl best friend/ situation ship calls him on the phone for 'emergency' purposes (which somehow involves watching a movie) the boys are no longer the priority.
"You still haven't told me why you called."
"You're trying to change the topic-"
"I'll leave your ass alone if you try to bully me."
yn couldn't help but grin snuggling closer to him, hands wrapped around his biceps and head on his shoulder. "I just wanted to see your stupid face."
"Excuse me- Stupid? I'm gorgeous." Han scoffed pretending to push her off. "Changbin was right bros before hoes. I Shouldn't have come to your aid."
"You know I know that you love hanging out with me." Yn said picking up the tv remote. "You love hanging out with me. And so do i. So here Rewatching Shrek for the- I don't even know how many times."
Han didn't argue as he stared at her. Yn had been one of his oldest friends. They met back in middle school and stuck together since. They've watched each other grow through their lowest and highest points.
And after everything, Han couldn't deny that he wanted them to be more than just friends. Friends don't hold each other most nights while sleeping. Friends don't look at each other the way he looked at yn.
But the problem was. He couldn't confess. He tried so many times over the years to subtly let yn know. But she never took the hint. It was like she wanted him to spell it out for her.
"You're thinking." Yn interrupted his train of thoughts.
"I am."
"It's kinda unusual since Chan does most of the thinking for us all."
Han said nothing continuing to stare at her. His lips curved up at the corner slightly. "I know." He said.
yn paused the movie turning back to him "Seriously Sungie, are you okay?" She asked. "You look lost."
Jisung sighed shaking his head turning around. This was another one of those moments when he wanted to confess. He was here at yn's house. She was in his arms. If he got rejected, then this would be over. He would lose yn. That was the only thing that stopped him from ever saying anything.
His feelings were not worth it. It was not worth it. He'd rather never confess than lose yn.
His bandmates seem to disagree. Specially Hyunjin. "Dude. I'm telling you. I get the vibe that yn likes you too. Go for it."
But Hyunjin was a hopeless romantic. And listening to his advice would be a bad decision for him.
"Jisung." Yn called out again.
"Nothing... I'm just tired from practice."
"You looked fine 20 min-"
"yn. Really it's nothing."
"It's not nothing if its bothering you."
"last night I was bothered thinking about the gold fish I lost when I was five. How will you say that it's not nothing?."
yn knew Han like that back of her hand. He always had a tough time vocalising his feelings. He always considered his thoughts as pointless. "You can tell me later. It's okay." She put her head back on his shoulder.
"I can't."
"Why?" She asked looking up at her. "Does it involve me somehow?"
Han nodded, kissing the top of her head. "It involves me? Wait... Are you actually sad cause I called you today..." Yn pulled back. "I know you were hanging out with the boys but I was just-"
"And they say I'm the overthinker." Han laughed. "I don't hate you yn. It's nothing... I just came up with some lyrics."
"Stop lying."
"What makes you think so?"
"You get crazy when you come up with a song. You're scrambling around for a piece of paper and pen. You have a look in your face." Yn said with a small shrug and Jisung couldn't help but smile.
"Do I?" He asked with a small laugh. He never expected her to notice so many details. "Are you like obsessed with me or something?" He joked pulling her towards him.
"You're making it weird Han."
"How am I making it weird?" He laughed. "I always hug my friends and kiss my homies goodnight."
"I hate you." Yn laughed along. "But in all seriousness. Are you okay?"
"I... Maybe. There's just a lot of things on my mind." Han said with a small shrug. "I don't know..."
"You're confused?"
"Kinda like that. I don't know how to deal with something. Like there's something I want to do. But I'm sacred."
"Being scared is for the losers." Yn laughed. I'm not the best person for advice but. If you want to do something. You should go ahead and do it. You'll have my support no matter what."
"What if it's something very stupid?"
"You're always doing something stu- I'M KIDDING!" She exclaimed when he tried to tickle her.
"And what if I say I like you?"
"I like you too what's the big deal?"
"No. What if I like like you?" He asked again this time turning around to face her fully.
"Hannie-"
"I like you yn. A lot. It's so hard for me to pretend I don't."
"Then... I'd say I like you too."
"I'm not joking yn."
"Han Jisung." Yn smiled. "I like you... Since we were in highschool when you took me to prom. You were always special to me... I just never thought you'd.... You'd like me back..." He voice got quite at the end.
"What- YN! I literally always call you cute. I always spend time with you- Everyone in our friend group knew that I liked you!"
"BUT YOU SAID I LOOK LIKE A SQUID AND YOU'D RATHER DATE SQUIDWARD!"
"YFN THAT WAS A JOKE!"
"HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW?!"
Han couldn't help but smile. "We're idiots." He laughed shaking his head. "Do you wanna be my idiot though?"
Yn grinned before pretending to think.
"Ynnie."
"Yes. I'd like that."
"Damn it was that easy? I now have a girlfriend?"
"You're such a loser. But my loser."

Actually Shrek forever after is on par with Shrek 2 and Puss In Boots the last wish as the best film in the Shrek franchise and one of the best DreamWorks films period.
I will say that it is the least funniest Shrek movie. Not because of the fact that jokes don't land just that it has so few jokes throughout, the jokes they do tell do in fact land. Shrek the third, on the other hand tries to be funny but none of the jokes really land, the story sucks and it dosent do Shrek's charecter arc justice. Shrek the third is easily the weakest Shrek movie and whenever I rewatch the films I skip Shrek the third to Shrek forever after.
And I feel the reason why people dislike Shrek forever after is because people view the Shrek series as straight up comedies that are meant to take the piss out of Disney. Instead of movies that take typical Disney/fairytale tropes and makes something new with them. The Shrek series has always had a hefty focus on drama and with Shrek's charecter arc, with him feeling as though he does not deserve love or happiness bc he is an ogre. The Shrek series has always been an animated fantasy/drama like Kung Fu Panda and How to train your Dragon, as opposed to a straight up comedy like Madagascar.
Alot of people claim that Shrek forever after became the very thing it was making fun of, an animated serious fantasy drama but Shrek was always that, just that it subverted average fairytale and animated tropes of the time. It came out after the 90s, the era of the Disney renaissance. Where every animated movie needed to have the same exact tropes and Shrek subverted every single one of those to make a new golden standard for animated films.
Shrek forever after still subverts typical fairytale tropes, it continues Shrek's charecter arc with him finally realizing that yes he does deserve happiness no matter what. Also the animation still looks stunning and I love how Fiona gets to be a badass. Shrek forever after isn't a funny movie, but that's not what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to cap off Shrek's story in a satisfying way.

Ranking all DnP videos 2024
Hello everyone here to hear me yap! Below I am including all of the videos dnp have released in 2024, rated from my favorite to least favorite. PLEASE NOTE that I actually do love all of them! And this is just a silly thing! But feel free to discuss or send me asks with your opinions :)
I'll start from the bottom up.
10. i have a spicy confession...
This one was lots of fun (wtf is wrong with yall with these confessions) but I'm not gonna lie Phil felt incredibly off in it and like... really performative? Like idk something didn't feel right to me and although he said some really sweet things it felt... off somehow. Not sure how to describe it. Funny though lol
9. HONEYMOON IN JAPAN!
I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW
It was a good video!! I just feel like it didn't have a lot of *those moments* that these other videos had idk. Like yes it was very sweet and a milestone for the sims universe but it kind of felt like that was it for me. The symbolism was inSANE but just strictly talking about the video itself yk. New pics released were nice though
8. Poppy Playtime Chapter 3
This one was a lot but it was SO nice to have such a long video- two hours long who??? That's tbh the reason this one goes above the honeymoon video- the length. The reason I put it lower is that although I am NOT complaining about the length, both of them were SUPER focused a lot of the time and not really talking much haha
7. Viewers Pick My Birthday Presents 2024
The only reason this one isn't higher is because all the ones above this I consider part of their *magnum opus* era. I loved the mini golden pig, the omatone, the shirt, and the Shrek smut. Always fun to see him surprised with cursed stuff loll
6. THE PUBLIC WOOHOO INCIDENT
Pretty self explanatory I think. Dan SCREAMING as Dab and Evan got it on made me actually piss myself. I can still hear it echoing in my head.
5. Phil's Birthday Livestream
Another case of "the only reason this isn't higher is because the ones above it are SO good." I loved the livestream, and was able to attend live for about the first hour. Such chaos. Such good. Amazing.
4. Dan and Phil Get Married, Have Kids, and Retire
Saw the notif while I was getting out of school and I literally snorted out loud, very embarrassing. They're just taking the piss at this point and I'm loving it. Phil's teasing him towards the end with "oh, I think I'll start another photo album!" GOLDEN. "Henry gives me that good dick." "Me and Susan have been rawdogging it." Amazing. Incredible.
3. Phil Pushes Dan's Button for 18 Minutes
A comfort video for REAL. When this came out I was SHOCKED that they had two BANGERS one right after another, but boy was I in for a surprise.
The slime? The slime on Dan's head while he's talking? Phil placing it on his forehead while he stares off into space? Hell yeah I want more of that slime I could look at it all day.
2. Who is the Real Daniel Howell?
Yall. We were fed GOOD today. Dan singing 'my lumps' absolutely DEADPAN while Phil looks at him in Awe? I WANT PHIL'S SWEATER IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME WHERE IT'S FROM I WILL BE GRATEFUL.
So? many shoulder touches? idk what that's about but i aint complaining ig
editing tips! *stuff* coming out your nose! etc!
This one had such a particular vibe to it- I think partially because it wasn't edited by the editor they've been using! To be clear - the editor has been doing a great job and I applaud them :) but sometimes it feels a bit over-edited, if you know what I mean? (For example the count-downs on the sims video going down the mountain felt a bit much) But having a video that was edited by Dan or Phil kinda hits different idk
WDAPTEO2024
I cannot, CANNOT say enough good things about this video. I cannot. I cannot. It holds my whole heart and soul and I have only rewatched it twice because I am trying to preserve the magic but GODDAMNIT I love their shenanigans. What a series.
I was very worried when they came out with this video STRAIGHT into 2024 because I was like, "WOW. that was amazing but idk how they're going to follow this up? will everything feel like a disappointment now that this masterpiece has come out?" (not that dnp uploading could ever be a disappointment, but I digress) BUT I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. Still though, wdapteo is 10/10 my fave so far.
I hope you enjoyed my yapping! I know many of you don't agree and that's okay lol, feel free to share your opinions if you so please ! And also with the ones that were lower ranked, the reasons I listed for the being lower ranked was NOT me complaining. Each video is different and awesome in their own right, this is just a ranking of how much I personally enjoyed each one!

DreamWorks4Me
If you've seen the news, DreamWorks as a studio is going through a huge change. They're going to start outsourcing every movie from now on and laying off almost 50% of their staff.
This makes me really sad for them and their legacy, so I wanted to share with you my fondest memories of their movies. Feel free to do the same!:
I didn't have a The Road to el Dorado copy while growing up. My best friend and neighbor had one and we would have an afternoon snack in her home, watch The Road... and then play. This was one of the two movies we rewatched the most.
I've always loved Chicken Run. I had this huge poster of it, but threw it away when I had a nightmare where the chickens started jumping from it. I still think it's Aardman's best movie and the one with the best soundtrack (which was also my introduction to both Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell!).
I sort of remember how Shrek knocked it out the park. There was a before and an after in animated movies.
While a lot of people say it's a bad movie, I kinda like Sinbad. The adventure, the character design, the places and Eris, of course.
I like Puss since his first appearance in Shrek 2.
I really like Over the Hedge. The music is great and the concept interesting. I remember reading the actual comic strips in the Sunday newspaper and I still have some of them.
While Shrek the Third is not that good, I really liked Artie for some reason. That's why one of the characters from my book Gotxinka is called Artii!
I wasn't much interested in Kung Fu Panda at the beginning, but it grew on me. One afternoon, the second and third movies were on TV, so I watched the first one and then put the other two on TV, binge watching the three!
How to train your dragon was the movie that helped me out of my depression and got me into cosplaying, drawing fancomics and writing fanfiction. And also got me into watching almost everything in English.
I love Megamind and will be forever mad I couldn't watch in on cinemas.
I know people don't like it much, but I find the Puss in Boots movie enjoyable.
I really liked Rise of the Guardians and it's a pity they didn't make more stuff with those characters. I almost cosplayed Toothiana, but did a casual version of her instead.
I couldn't watch The Croods in cinemas either, but I watched it in English a while after and fell in love with it! It's so creative and the relationship of Guy and Eep is so sweet.
I did my hair like Astrid to watch HTTYD2. That version of her outfit is my favorite cosplay of her.
And, of course, Riders of Berk were the first series I watched in full English. I didn't have Netflix when Race to the Edge aired, so I would get up early to watch someone streaming it and I had a blast. I didn't know if I should watch Trollhunters, but I saw a video with Kelsey Grammer and I'm so glad I gave it a try! The show helped me in one of my lowest moments (like HTTYD had done years before).

Musing about Dreamworks
I have recently rewatched a lot of old Dreamworks stuff and I realized something: The way a lot of Dreamworks stuff breaks with the hero'e's journey is actually a really good thing.
If you watch Dreamworks movies and compare it with Disney or even Pixar, there is the quite obvious difference that for the most part Dreamworks heroes and heroines are underdogs, while Disney heroes most of the times are not. It is also the reason I think that a lot of queer folks found themselves in a lot of the Dreamworks stuff early on. I for sure can say I did. It is super easy to read a queer subtext into quite a few Dreamworks movies.
Compared to Disney there is also the fact that Dreamworks seemingly never felt the need to use their protagonist's marginalizations, when there, as a way to advertise. It was simply something that was there...
But there is this other big thing.
Disney movies for the most part very clearly follow the Hero's Journey, but in a way that they are so very married to the Status Quo. You know, often in the Hero's the Hero returns home - which Disney usually takes as "the hero returns to the Status Quo". The hero changes, but the world around them doesn't. Because Disney usually says: "The world as it is, is alright."
I could probably go into the depth of the MCU here, but to stay with animation, let's talk about Disney's one real underdog story: Aladdin. The central conflict arises in the first place because Aladdin is of a much lower status and hence cannot court Jasmin. This is basically what leads to the inciting incident and everything. So, the solution in the end is? Well, Aladdin gets a free pass. But in general there is nothing much changed about the class structure of the world.
Meanwhile almost all Dreamworks movies involve the world around the heroes changing. In Shrek the world has to learn to accept ogers. In Kung Fu Panda more than anything it is Shifu who needs to learn the lesson. In Megamind the way that the populus of Metro City treated Megamind was the issue. And most notably probably How to Train Your Dragon, where the vikings needed to learn to work with the dragons.
One can almost make the argument that Dreamworks movies in general reject the status quo. In fact, heroes that want to re-establish the status quo will need to learn that it actually was not a good thing. Be it the animals in Madagascar returning to the zoo and finding it was not at all what they remembered, or be it Puss in The Last Wish learning that his status quo (him having the many lives) was not good for him.
I can very much say that starting in my teens, when I became more interested in animation, I always liked Dreamworks Animation better than the other animation studios in the west. And yes, I quite early learned about the queer readings of Shrek for example. And I was able to well realize that Dreamworks was better in a lot of their messages than Disney was (and clearer).
But I actually never pinned down, why Dreamworks felt so much more progressive until I started to think about this recently. That Dreamworks actually allows for the world around the heroes to change and in some cases address systematic oppression.
And don't get me wrong. Like from a production side and behind the scenes, there is still a lot wrong with Dreamworks as well. They absolutely tried their best together with Disney to keep down the pay for animators and stuff. There was definitely also some cases of discrimination and bad conduct. But just from the side of what the movies themselves say? Yeah, no, I see myself a lot more in the Dreamworks stuff than anything Disney ever made.

IN LIEU OF THE STRIKES
(which i am technically participating in but also i hadn’t had a writing job in like eighteen months before this and i was planning on breaking for the entirety of my degree anyways)
currently neither unions are calling for a boycott but if this goes on long enough, production will start grinding to a halt. personally, i am hoping this lasts long enough to get the tech crews, directors, and animators/cg artists/effects people also striking, because i am really hoping that that will get more of these fields unionised too and really scare the bosses into doing what we want. this industry makes hundreds of billions of dollars a year and those profits go directly into the pockets of shareholders that don’t fucking deserve them.
the point being: now if ever is the time to start catching up on the old shit. by which i mean anything you missed when it came out.
so my contribution here is sharing my current watchlists and also giving some recommendations for my favourite films and tv shows.

as for my own recs:
in terms of horror, i will always rec everything jordan peele. he is one of my favourite filmmakers of this century and he has yet to miss. although personally i would advise grabbing some friends and keeping the lights on for us. another favourite of mine is the original scream. i’m not so big on the sequels personally, but i’d advise giving them ago because many people love the entire franchise and i have heard excellent things about the one with jenna ortega. thoroughbreds is technically a thriller but my god was it one of the most underrated and gripping films i’ve seen in years. 5/5 stars. check it out.
in terms of comedy, i will never not recommend pride (2014) it is a heartwarming film about solidarity between different marginalised communities, based on a real organisation of queer people that raised money for the striking miners in the uk in 1984. it was also my gay awakening in more ways than one and despite the somewhat bittersweet ending gave me a lot of hope for my future. i also highly recommend my cousin vinny which not only has marisa tomei giving the greatest comedic performance i’ve ever seen (which she deserved best actress for, by the way, she carried that fucking film) but also amazingly accurate legal dialogue. another favourite of mine is the spy who dumped me which has me actual pissing myself every time i watch it. also, the first kingsman film is a masterclass in successful parody and cinematic proof that the only good parodies are made by the lovers of a genre, not the haters.
in terms of documentary, now is a great time to revisit david attenborough’s work (we stan that man on this blog i won’t hear a word against him) and be reminded of what exactly it is that our conservationists are trying to save. particularly a life on this planet is a fascinating documentary about his own journey and beautifully scored. the elephant whisperers won best short doc at the oscars this year for a reason. although i have my issues with my octopus teacher’s philosophy in certain places, it is still one of the most incredible documentaries i’ve ever seen. lewis capaldi: how i’m feeling now is not what you think but is definitely worth a watch. (also mandatory watching for any american that calls shrek’s accent scottish.) chasing coral on netflix is something i rewatch whenever i need reminding of why i’m doing what i’m doing.
finally in terms of tv, this is my daily reminder to everyone to subscribe to dropout it is well worth the money and for today what i actually want to recommend is total forgiveness which legitimately broke me as a person and is also one of the most candid and grounded depictions of the impact of student debt i have ever seen. i would also, however, like to put some people on some limited series/complete tv shows that absolutely fuck. firstly, maid came into my life at the worst time possible and sent me into multiple meltdowns and panic attacks but remains one of my top tv shows of the year. the last of us is actually worth the hype, as much as it frustrates my science brain. la revolution is the best thing to come out of france since pain aux abricots but also comes with about four hundred content warnings so check yourself before you wreck yourself with that one. alien worlds is not quite what i’d consider a documentary but is one of the most creative things i’ve ever watched and a really accessible show about ecology and exobiology, which i love. russian doll is a show that tore me into pieces and stitched me back together again laughing and crying the whole way. don’t do yourself the disservice of not watching it. the ethos of the good place is too good not to put on here. yes it’s been memed to hell and back but it’s genuinely one of the greatest tv shows of the century so far and found and carried such a fundamentally good message that i rewatch at least once every couple years.

I hate that my verbal stims are from a lot of trending tiktoks and other current trends. Although I do love that my spouse always matches my energy and does verbal stims with me! 🤣
I don't like tiktok at all so my spouse makes sure to show me some every once in a while.
Where do your stims come from? Besides tiktok mine are from childhood shows and movies that I like to rewatch (ESPECIALLY SHREK💚). I also like to repeat cool words I've recently learned kr heard. Otherwise my verbal stims are usually noises. It feels so so wonderful to be able to stim freely around my spouse and in our home. Growing up I was taught to suppress them and told that I was annoying. Unmasking is literally life saving. I have to remember the good aspects of my life living with autism because there is so much struggle. I'm happy to be me, finally 🥹🥰

I want to add onto the heroes v villains thing (the anons) because I was here fairly early on and got to watch it update and fangirl over your writing in real time. As much as I miss the staff and all, it’s been super cool seeing you take characters we love and plopping them down into such well crafted stories that even I (someone who RARELY ever rereads/replays/rewatches things) have come back numerous times to go through everything again.
I was very skeptical when you first said “I’m writing something based on shrek” (paraphrasing but you get it) and I am still reeling at how much I fell in love with it (definitely learned to not judge a concept by its cover :b) I have been consistently blown away by your creativity (whether it’s your own or taking an ask and turning it into yet another really cool, fleshed out idea). You are a very talented writer who obviously puts a lot of work/thought into everything you create.
So uh, psa to people in general: reread what you send to make sure it comes across the way you want! Have a nice day
